A university is an institution of higher education and research that provides both undergraduate and graduate programs. The word "university" comes from the Latin term "universitas" meaning community of teachers and scholars. Over time, the concept of higher education developed in Europe beginning in the 6th century, leading to the establishment of universities to fulfill practical and non-vocational learning needs. Kathmandu University, established in 1991, is ranked the top university in Nepal. It aims to provide quality education through various faculties and departments. Far-Western University was established by the Nepalese Parliament in 2010 with a mission to provide holistic development of students through knowledge, research, and global opportunities.
