Development Of Identity And Journey
Identity Many people believe that a journey leads to a development of identity, of who we are as a
person. Along the same lines, our values and characteristics evolve over time, as we make changes
throughout our lives. Therefore, the liaison that identity and journey, share is a journey of obstacles
and internal and external trials. Thus, helping us grow by maturing and helps develop valuable life
skills as a result, learning new experiences. This journey will help us see what makes us different from
one another and whom we want to identify. Throughout this journey, we will develop qualities and go
through failure. The failures will help us not to give up, but keep going, and that is going to be a key
point on shaping our identity. For example, this will help us identify if we are a strong or weak
minded. This odyssey may aid you by appreciating life and finding peace in the things that made you
miserable. Furthermore, journey and identity connect because we have to go through an internal,
external, and transformative journey to shape our identity to self define, who and what we are. In other
words, how this journey sets us apart from other people. First, to identify who we are as a person we
must go through an internal journey on why it shapes our identity to self define who we are. For
example, an internal journey will give us a sense of unique individuality. Thus, how we evolve during
this journey, like how we change on the inside. For instance, our emotional path will

Essay on The Three Branches of Government
The United States government braces its power among three powerful branches, legislative, executive
and judicial. These branches interact with one another to establish authority that is strong, yet equal to
have power over the country. Each branch pursues certain responsibilities and duties to operate in an
efficient and effective manner in which society upholds. The executive, legislative and judicial
branches all interact amid each other to validate accuracy of the nation s most powerful law of the
land, the Constitution. It is important to know how these branches interact with each other to learn
how a bill becomes a law. Reflecting on how the three branches promote a balance of power that is
constructive to include the agendas and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, with all of the duties the legislative branch renders it has to be checked by the executive and
judicial branches before imperative decisions are completed. The interaction that the legislative branch
has with the judicial branch is to interpret acts of Congress that are disputed in legal cases to also
declare laws of Congress void if they are not in accordance with the Constitution (Patterson, 2011, p.
42). The interaction the legislative branch has with the executive branch is when the creation of new
laws or the changes of existing laws are made the executive branch is to issue regulation executing the
full force of law. This gives the legislative branch power and authority within its own branch, to also
subsist checked by the other two branches.
The power of the executive branch is vested by the President of the United States. This branch is the
largest branch that operates with assistance from the Vice President, agencies and members to
successfully lead the government. The executive branch mainly operates based on the responsibilities
and duties of the President implementing and forcing laws written by Congress (Whitehouse.gov).
However, the interactions that the executive branch has with the other branches productively endorse
power. The interactions that the executive branch has with the legislative branch are carrying out and
enforce the laws that

Cultural Issues Created by the Prohibition Era.
While the prohibition movement of the early twentieth century was brought on with a wholesome and
moral mindset, the economic, political, and cultural factors relating to its origins and enactment
untimely doomed it for failure. Such groups as the Women s Christian Temperance Union and the
progressive party argued that drinking was the cause of political corruption, crime, bad labor
conditions, and a declining sense of family values. These groups protests and rallies gained enormous
support quickly for a constitution amendment as early as 1913 with the Jubilee Convention. Before the
Eighteenth Amendment officially declared the U.S as a dry country, prohibition was already in effect
in a majority of states and counties. By the time the amendment took effect in January of 1920, three
of every four Americans lived in a dry county; and due to the enactment of the Webb Kenyon Act of
1913 outlawing the shipment of alcohol into dry states, the amendment caused little change in the
lives of many Americans. Many hoped that prohibition would be the moral reform that would
regenerate society; however, it resulted in more corruption and organized crime. Unperceived
economic factors relating to bootlegging, taxes, and police enforcement heavily contributed to the
demise of the prohibition era. As soon as the eighteenth amendment took effect a ring of bootlegging
and organized gangs emerged. In addition to many of these bootleggers brewing their own moonshine
to sell, several

Summary Of 357 Magnum Handgun
On December 24th, 2007 Joseph McEnroe and Michele Kristen, both 29, murdered six people with a
.357 caliber magnum handgun. They shot and killed her parents, brother and his wife and their two
children. The motive is believed to be money, her parents had requested they start paying rent on the
trailer home they were living in (Green, 2014). When Joseph pulled the trigger of the .357 caliber
magnum handgun he had set off a chain reaction. When he pulled the trigger it caused the firing pin to
strike the primer cap that is on the base of the cartridge. The compound in the primer cap reacted and
it ignited the gunpowder that was contained in the body of the cartridge. When the gunpowder ignited
a high pressure reaction occurred, this propelled

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Negotiation
Negotiation could be seen in any aspects, any activities of our real life. Negotiations happen when
there is a wide gap between two or more parties interests and targets. Hence, the goal of negotiation is
simply to close that gap by finding out a middle group for both parties. In order to do that, it is
required to develop a great deal of tactics to correctly evaluate ourselves and our counterparty, then
come up with a suitable negotiation strategy. Amongst these requirements, self assessment is the first
and the most important step to take. Hence, in this entry, my objective is exploring my past
experiences in negotiation and see what are my strengths and weakness in doing so. As mentioned
earlier, we negotiate quite often, much more often than we may think. We can negotiate at home, in
our office, with our friends, families, colleagues or business partners. The participants, the interests,
the motivations of each party vary from case to case. Sometimes we have time to prepare for the
negotiation, sometimes we are just pushed to do it. Sometimes you are totally aware that ... Show

fully understand our company s salary review policy (actually, the top executives tried to complicate
the salary policy and was not transparent about it). Besides, I did not carefully consider the timing of
the negotiation, or to which level of salary increase could my boss make decisions and to which level
he had to get his superiors approvals. Consequently, I did not know what and how to talk with my boss
about this topic in an effective manner. I just let my boss to decide my salary increase on his own and

Marriott Group Pricing Optimizer Essay
Marriot Group Pricing Optimizer
Revenue management has been a system long used by the airline industry to optimize revenue on
airline routes. Marriott implemented their own revenue management One Yield system twenty years
ago to optimize individual guest room rates and allocation. One Yield is used in 97 percent of Marriott
s 3,300 hotels in 70 different countries to handle over 75 million individual guest room transactions
per year. Recently, Marriott decided to move from One Yield to Total Yield so its revenue
management system would include all revenue generation instead of just individual guest rooms. To
develop this system, Marriott created a proprietary Group Pricing Optimizer (GPO) to help hotel
managers decide on what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The constraints would be the bookings, inventory, inventory rates and the already allocated rooms.
Since One Yield works in a real time setting these constraints would change day to day to maximize
profit. More complicated scenarios when groups and catering events are incorporated in the formula
would require large complicated decision trees or programs such as QM for Windows.
Deciding whether to use a room for an individual or as part of a group could be a large decision tree,
but the probabilities of renting out the room would need to be decided. Deciding on the probabilities
of renting a room to an individual guest that gets the best return is a complicated procedure, which is
why a computer program would be best utilized. This step is the most complicated one. Marriot had to
decide what ultimate factors should be used to price a room. This info was not revealed in the case
because it is proprietary and has increased profit for Marriott by $120 million since its inception.
Total Yield does an excellent job analyzing pricing for current hotels and is able incorporate a lot of
different customer types. Marriott has been using for One Yield for twenty years and Total Yield was
just rolled out a couple years ago so the amount of individual data vs. group data is staggering. As
Marriott moves forward and tweaks any problems that Total Yield has, the amount of group data is

Understanding And Treatment Of Psychological Disorders
The definition, understanding and treatment of psychological disorders have changed over time. In the
dark ages or mid evil times, people who behaved abnormally were quickly labelled as being mad or
being possessed by spirits. The individuals were often held in isolation with their treatments being
very cruel and harsh. In the eighteenth century, a French physician named Philippe Pinel challenged
the cruel treatment methods and promoted a gentler and more humane approach. According to the
American Psychiatric Association, a psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically
significant disturbance in an individual s cognition, emotion regulation or behavior. (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). Some people use the term psychological disorder in the same context
as a mental illness or disorder. It is a behavior that leads to distress in an individual and prevents him
or her from living a normal life to the point that they cannot perform daily chores. Certain behaviors
have normal acceptable characteristics and if the behavior falls outside of this acceptable range, it can
be considered a disorder. The behavior can be painful as well as harmful to the individual. One thing
to note is that the behavior should not be something that is caused by a sudden stressful experience
such as grief due to the death of a loved one. (Myers, 506) A psychologist can use The Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) to help determine the criteria for

Cost Allocation Method
Cost allocation is a method to determine the cost of services provided to users of that service. It does
not determine the price of the service, but rather determines what the service costs to provide. It is
important to determine the cost allocation of the services, in order to determine a justifiable
fee/charge/tax for those services.
Included in cost allocation are direct, indirect, and incremental costs. Direct costs, or separable costs,
are costs that are related to a single type of service and are related to one type of output or user such
as, a sector to sector hand off. Indirect costs, or common costs, are related to more than one type of
service, such as, the physical en route facility. Incremental costs change with the level of ... Show

Cost allocating is used in sectors, private and governments, clearly in two different ways. In fact most
of the Universities divide both in two different classes. Government accounting and Manufacturing
Accounting. In the Manufacturing sector, cost allocation accounting can be used in different manners;
Companies allocate costs so that all elements that are part of that cost share the incurred costs. It is
like spreading the costs amongst those that use it. Companies allocate costs merely to assign
responsibility of those costs to either several departments within that company or to just one
department.
3)Why does the US Department of Human Services have a special division just for Cost Allocation?
What are some of the ways in which they administer cost allocation for hospitals, colleges, and non
profit organizations?A)The Division of Cost Allocation (DCA) provides negotiation services for
indirect cost rate proposals and cost allocation plans. For more than 50 years, DCA has reviewed cost
allocation methods and practices of entities that receive Federal funds, helping to ensure that indirect

This book is about short stories that take place in future. All of the short stories are based on different
themes. For example in the short story, The Veldt theme is technology is controlling our lives. In the
story the Veldt the house is fully programmed and high tech. The house takes over everything inside
the house, even the roles of mothers and fathers. The three stories I am talking about today is the
Marionettes, Inc, The City and Zero Hour. Marionettes, Inc opens up when two men are walking
slowly down the street. Then it tells us their age, boy men where thirty five years old. Their names
were Smith and Braling. Then Smith asked Braling Your first time out in years and you go home at ten

Wireless Communication And Control System
WIRELESS COMMUNICATION WITH BCI
Abstract
A Brain Computer Interface is a communication and control system in which human mind can be
translated to the external world without the help of the normal output pathways of muscles and nerves.
Each time we do something or think about doing something, our brain generates distinct signals.
These signals corresponding to an activity, has a pattern. Finding this pattern is a challenging job and
is the main task of any Brain Computer Interface. A BCI acquires these signals from the brain of a
user in the form of Electroencephalography (EEG). Then after pre processing, feature extraction and
classification, it translates these signals into meaningful commands or instructions to drive a device or
application. Electroencephalography is used to record electrical fields that represent the brain signals
and are generated due to the local brain function.
Most of the applications today are only used in computers and just focus on the realization of direction
strategies. To meet the potential increasing user s needs and explore interacting processes with people
s mental states, we design an application that maps signals from the human brain and performs
operations like calling, messaging, gaming and photography. The brain signals are mapped and stored
to create different commands using a series of refined signal processing procedures. These commands
are declared and defined to perform the above mentioned operations like calling, messaging,

Liberalism and Realism Essay
Realism and Liberalism are two extremely prominent theories of international relations. These
doctrines exhibit sagacious perceptions about war, foreign affairs and domestic relations. The
fundamental principles of protocol in which we rely upon aren t always apprehensive (Karle, Warren,
2003). By interpreting the data one could fathom these ideas. The assessment of these faculties wield
noteworthy dominance about the concepts of international affairs. In analyzing this data, you will

Realism has been very effective in helping scholars understand the international system through the
concepts of altruism, survival, and self help. Realists believed that there are no codes of conduct in
which all states may guide their own actions. They believed that a state must be cognizant of the
events of the states evolved and that one must use a pragmatic approach to solve imminent issues.
They desired states to have supreme power over themselves in order to actively engage in the use and
expansion of military preeminence. George Evans and Jeffrey Newnham (Graham Evans and
Newnham, 1998) composed in their dictionary, that his fundamental outlying attainment of authority
is appropriate, lucid, and is a highly anticipated ambition of foreign policy. Realism is branded a
pessimistic view in that they argue that states will amass alliances to guarantee equal power giving no
state dictatorship (Rosenberg, Justin, 1990). The moral outlook of Realists was established by parodies
subsequently identifying their morality as a denunciation of polite mannerisms in fictional stories; for
example, Harper Lee s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird . The highlights of the trial of this book in the
scene when Robinson was on trial for false accusations of raping Mayella displayed elements of
realism due to racism and the time period (Nelle Harper Lee, 1960). Realist, dislike the liberals

Life, a series of transformations. Each small shift building off of one another, perpetually propelling
the cyclical existence that is nature. Some manifest as small changes, summer to fall, ice to water;
others a grand metamorphosis. Humans the center of this cycle, find themselves changing every day,
biologically, developmentally, ideologically, etcetera. Gabriel Garcia Marquez s The Handsomest
Drowned Man In The World, and Carson McCuller s Sucker are both excellent examples of short
stories that, despite having undeniably different plots, feature the overarching theme of
transformation: the propellant through life. Transitions come in many forms, physical evolutions being

It is seen in Marquez s literately work when the preparations are made for the Drowned mans funeral.
Villagers care for this drowned man like no other, orchestrating a grandiose funeral bringing people
from neighboring villages, and decorating him with charms and tailored clothing. They select people
to act as his family in the funeral and then they release the Drowned man back into the water, without
an anchor so that he could come back if he wished and whenever he wished (Marquez). This all
ostensibly unusual for a funeral in this area, especially for the funeral of a drowned stranger. Villagers

actions is also evident in McCuller s text when discussing the changes seen in sucker after Pete yells
at him. Sucker begins spending time with friends, inviting people over to the house, taking up more of
the bed, acting tough, and avoiding conversation with Pete who says I don t even want to call him
sucker anymore (McCuller). Sucker s actions have become apparently contradictory to the past, to the
point where Pete doesn t even find it appropriate to use his previous name. Then similar to Garcia s
story, the change in practice is emblematic of other change found around the story, specifically more
rooted mental change. Transformation of the psyche, whether entirely or compartmentally, would

By acknowledging each individual s status as a child of God, the damning effects of fear, deception,

relationships rests in the ability to love one s enemies. Although this specific teaching is not new or
unique, its application to Christian relationships (especially between the disinherited and the
privileged ) is extremely pertinent. Enmity between two individuals or two groups of individuals
causes a physical and spiritual disunion that obstructs the individual s ability to experience the power
of Christ. Therefore, I must resolve to always demonstrate an attitude of love toward my enemies in
order to preserve the unity that is so vital to genuine spiritual experience. Ultimately, I found Howard
Thurman s theory on the disinherited to be both logically valid and extremely thought provoking. In

the millions of extra Americans flying their services. What did this require the airlines to do? Yes add
more jobs ( A History of US Airline Deregulation ). Think of all the people that were able to get a job,
either as people who worked at the airport, taxi drivers, airplane workers, security people, and so on.
Another benefit would be that safety/security increased both on airplanes and at the airport. As the
author states, Deregulation has encouraged the airlines to become more safety conscious rather than
less. ( A History of US Airline Deregulation ). One of the airlines main priorities would of course have
to be safety, if deregulation caused for less carriers, less routes, more fees, you can expect for more

The Theme Of Forbidden Love In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet Movie Review One of the most known theme in Romeo and Juliet is forbidden love.
The theme of forbidden love could be considered as the reason why the story of Romeo and Juliet is
so well known. Forbidden love is the trunk of the tree and other forms connected to it are the
branches. Unrequited love, puppy love, and skinny love are different types of forbidden love. Romeo
and Juliet s forbidden love was because of the feud between their families. Throughout the movie,
Director Buz Luhrmann, portrayed the hatred towards both families very well by incorporating
common movie symbols into certain scenes. Water, which often symbolizes freedom, was almost
always a part of the every scene in the movie. Also, with the added sound effects from bird chirping to
thunderstorms, the audience is drawn and captivated into intense or heartwarming scenes. An obvious
lesson in the story of Romeo and Juliet was to consider the desire of others. That means that you
shouldn t ignore their cries but rather put their hopes and desires before yours and trust that their
happiness is yours too if you really love them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though it was scripted, something about seeing a person s face light up the way Leo DiCaprio s
did when he saw Claire Danes really captured my attention. At that moment, a smile came upon my
face and I really found it interesting how well their acting was. In my opinion, some people overdue
their acting when it comes to being in love. In addition to overacting being in love, Romeo s lines are
always so gushy about his love for Juliet. So, as for Leo DiCaprio s portray of Romeo, I thought it was
really well done because it felt like it was balanced through his words and expressions as the lines
were said. The way the camera caught a few glimpse of the scene from a birds eye view, looking down
at the party, was very

Government spending on NASA
Around the nineteen fifties to nineteen the world experienced a drastic change in innovations and
technological development; however, the rate of change has had an iota to no change since then. One
of the most recognizable changes is the computer, computers were developed to process calculations
faster and more accurately to give a country an edge in the space race. Another recognizable change is
the Global Positioning System, GPS, which is used worldwide today. Of course, there has been
countless innovations since then, not to mention discoveries that affect how we view the world. The
government should increase its funding to NASA, to help in the discovery of things that can change
the world forever.

In NASA and the Federal Government Waste Taxpayer Money, Douglas Cobb, a writer for Guardian

underutilized facilities. (Cobb). In other words NASA is using taxpayer money to maintain launch
pads that have not been used since the shuttle program. While this fact is true, there is; however,
several valid reasons for this lapse of use. Even though there are several facilities that have most likely
gone unused since the Apollo program, we have to recall that the federal government tells NASA what
their current mission is, which dictates what facilities are used. An example of this is the rocket test
stand that would have been used for the Constellation program, this program was canceled by Obama
when it was near its completion (Cobb). As such, we can concur that while certain facilities are not
used presently, that they may be used in the future, and thus are not a waste of taxpayer

SAT2 Task 1
My Leadership Style Analysis
A1. Leadership Style Evaluation
There are many different leadership styles. After reading the assigned chapters for this task. I was able
to identify my own leadership style as a result. In order to know my leadership style, I took a series of
assessments in order to determine my personal leadership style.
Assessments I took that helped me to determine my personal leadership style are: the Emotional

your propensity of taking Risk, How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Entrepreneurial leadership style tends to have higher achievement and is where the Participative
leadership style tends to strive for consensus.
The Entrepreneurial leadership style tends to be more creative and enthusiastic than the Participative
leadership style. The Participative leadership style tends to negotiate demands of employees, and the
Entrepreneurial leadership style responds immediately if a crisis presents.
A3. Leadership Style Discussions Understanding different Leadership Styles can help me to become
an effective leader by helping me to identify deficient areas in my personal leadership style. Being
able to identify personal leadership deficiency will give me the opportunity of being aware. Being
aware of deficiency in my leadership style will help me to gain new skills that will help me to improve
and perfect deficient areas in my leadership style. This newfound awareness will allow me the
opportunity to obtain knowledge, skills and abilities needed in order for me to become an effective
leader.
Another reason understanding different leadership styles can help me to become an effective leader is
that it will give me the opportunity to think outside the box. This skill will help me to be more creative
in my leadership style, and as a result, I will gain and implement new leadership skills to my personal
leadership style. This new skill

For three hours and a half in a courtroom at Boise, Ohio,...
For three hours and a half in a courtroom at Boise, Ohio, Harry Orchard assembled in the witness
chair at the Haywood trial and recounted a record of offenses, slaughter, and murder... the like of
which no individual in the overcrowded courtroom had ever thought of. Not in the entire scope of
Bloody Gulch literature will there be exposed anything that approaches an equivalent to the atrocious
narrative so motionlessly, coolly, and composedly voiced by this audacious, disimpassioned man
slaughterer. For on his very first day of the trial, Orchard narrated the specifics of his wrongdoings
without hesitation. Just last year, 1906, he with another fellow had implanted an explosive in the

Only once or twice was there a dramatic touch. It was a repulsive, sickening, nauseating story, but he
conveyed it as meekly as the simplest chronicle of the utmost common episode of the most ordinary
reality. He was neither an egotist nor an adulator. He neither bragged of his horrendous offenses nor
sobbed in fake regret and shame. It was just a simple narration of individual practice, and as it went
on, hour after hour, with voluminous detail, specific and intense here, half disremembered and
ambiguous there. Slowly it conveyed to the spectators the belief that it all happened it was the truth.
Falsehoods are not prepared as convoluted and intricate as that tale. Fiction so full of incident, so
mixed of purpose and cross purpose, so permeated with the play of human passion, does not spring
offhand from the most marvelous fertile invention. Touching continually points on which there can be
controversy, Orchard described undertakings whose purpose until to day had been unknown, whose
motive had lingered as clandestine. And as he continued to recount his story, the half stifled gathering
in the populated courtroom was so silent that his soft speech infiltrated to the farthermost area. As I

Stratification In The 1920 s
In the 1920 s the United States government implemented a new and radical legislation referred to as
prohibition that changed the lives of american adults. This new bill consisted of outlawing intoxicating
beverages throughout the United States and having them regulated by the Federal Government. In
every community the response to this new bill varied. For instance, in 1920 I believe the individuals
who resided in my hometown Yardley, Pennsylvania would have been able to obtain alcohol illegally
through operations known as saloons. Similar to society today, stratification , is extremely important
social factor and truly affects the amount of law one may receive (Black, 11) .

Relationships Are An Important Part Of Human Existence
Relationships are an important part of human existence. To survive, we must build these connections.
They consume every facet of our lives. We encounter many different relationships in our lifetime. We
are a sibling, friend, parent, child, co worker, spouse, lover and many more. It is a part of who we are
and how we relate to the world around us. It is how we develop and nurture these relationships that
make the difference in our lives. Relationships are complicated, but can be rewarding when all parties
are seeking the same goal. We learn to balance our interactions and seek to find a way of fitting them
into our everyday lives. The best relationships are ones that are built on mutual trust, understanding,
and respect for each other. When they don t work out, we may feel a sense of failure or sadness. They
are often hard to let go of, even if they are dysfunctional and unhealthy for us and the people we are
surrounded by. In Learning to Fall , there are multiple relationships being described. Ruth is a single
mother who is doing her best to raise her young son Andrew and keep a positive outlook on life. The
relationship she has with her son is nurturing and loving. Andrew is striving to become independent
and resents his mother being too mushy, especially in front of other people. What makes this a bit
more complicated and special, is the fact that Andrew was born with disabilities. Ruth also has a

How Did Radical Reconstruction Affect South African Americans
Radical Reconstruction was a unique period in America which enabled previously unseen social and
political changes for the South. However, the impact of these changes was quite limited in their
influence. Radical Reconstruction was the progressive period after Presidential Reconstruction that
spanned from the passing of the Reconstruction Acts in 1867 until The Compromise of 1877. During
this period African Americans briefly felt the political and social effects of government action, namely
a political voice, the suppression of racial terrorist groups and increased civil rights. This essay argues
that whilst these were real positive social and political impacts for Southern African Americans, their
effects were not radical. The most notable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During Radical Reconstruction the government tried to distance African Americans from slavery by
providing new social opportunities. These included the Southern states ratification of the 14th
Amendment, increased education, and stabilising family units . In 1865 to 1866, before Radical
Reconstruction, former slaves were often subject to Black Codes which, based on slave codes,
established black subordination to whites . Hence, their removal and the further attempts to provide
opportunities for freedmen was essential in creating life outside of slavery. Education was one such
success, providing African Americans with opportunities to learn skills outside of labour. One
prominent example of the government s investment into education was South Carolina, which under
the work of Cardozo and Smalls, made education mandatory within their state and helped create over
3000 schools . The effect was clear, black literacy rates doubled during the decade of Radical
Reconstruction and freedmen began expanding their skillset beyond physical labour . Whilst the social
milestones of education and other civil opportunities in the South were a crucial step, ultimately, their
progress was limited by the refusal of the government to provide an economic basis for African
Americans to live. Most Republican politicians after the 14th and 15th Amendments were uninterested
in providing freedmen with the facilities to be equal. This is seen in the quick rejection of Thaddeus
Stevens Land Redistribution proposal to give 40 acres of land to all males . Whilst education did
provide opportunity, a refusal to provide land reinforced a dichotomy between former master and
former slave . Hence, even though Radical Reconstruction did improve the social standing for African
Americans, overall the government s failure to

MAPK And The Regulation Of The Isolation Of Eukaryotic Cells
Introduction Isolation of DNA along with transcriptional material in the nucleus, by the nuclear
envelope, from the cytoplasm and the translational material held there gives the opportunity for exact
regulation (Lange et al, 2006). The nuclear envelope provides the ability for regulation of gene
expression and signal transduction. With this regulation cells can, if exposed to an extracellular signal,
perceive and create an intracellular response to withstand or react to such a signal, for example, by
signalling cascades with the use of mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) (Brown and Sacks,
2009). A protein kinase can phosphorylate a protein at serine, threonine or tyrosine residues which can
affect its position within the cell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The many isoforms of JNK could have varying catalytic activity on their substrates such as the means
to phosphorylate a transcription factor (c Jun) in JNK1 and JNK2 (Liu et al, 2004). JNK
phosphorylate either serine or threonine residues when there is a proline after it (Hibi et al, 1993).
JNK can also be phosphorylated by autophosphorylation most notable in the JNK2 isoforms where it
still allows initiation of substrates with the strongest occurrence in JNK22 (Tsuiki et al, 2003). There
are three kinases involved in the MAPK phosphorelay system which act in series: MAPK kinase
kinase (MKKK), MAP kinase (MKK) and MAPK (JNK), which respond to external stimuli, shown in
Figure 1 (Johnson et al, 2005). There are a wide range of stimuli that can activate regulation of JNK
including ultraviolet irradiation, growth factors (tumour necrosis factor ), cytokines and even protein
synthesis inhibitors (anisomycin) activates MKKK and using phosphorylation to activate the next
kinase in the process, MKK, which in turn phosphorylates MAPK (DĂ©rijard et al, 1994; Kallunki et al,
1994; Lange Carter et al, 1993). There are 13 different MKKK including MEKK1 4, MLK2/3 and
DLK that can act in the JNK pathway which provides the ability to responds these different external
signals (Brown and Sacks, 2009; DĂ©rijard et al, 1994; Johnson and Lapadat, 2002; Kallunki et al,
1994). In the sequence of MEKK there are specific motifs

Polycephalum Essay
Physarum Polycephalum is a slime mold that has a yellow coloring to it and it resides in areas of
shade, cool temperatures and moisture. Not only does this slime mold have the name Physarum
Polycephalum, but it is also referred to as Polycephalum as suggested by (Jabr, 2012). P.
Polycephalum is a multicellular microbe that feeds fungal spores and other microbes because the
organisms are heterotrophic (Sauer, 1986). P. Polycephalum is very interesting because it has traits of
both fungi and animals, which I find very interesting. It has this ability to move around where it is
located to find food by engulfing and surrounding it, and it does this by going through enzyme
secretion. Although we know a lot about this organism, for many years it was mistaken as fungi due to
the fact that it was thought to be heterotrophic but through further analysis it was removed from that
category because they realized that fungi is not as mobile as this organism. P. Polycephalum doesn t
have a cell wall but fungi have cell walls made of chitin, which lead to the line being drawn between
these two organisms (Ashworth and Dee, 1975).
The most ideal habitat for P. Polycephalum is a moist and shady region but not only is it suitable for P.
Polycephalum but its also suitable for bacteria, archea and protists that it feeds on (Jabr, 2012). When
it engulfs its food, it grows with the help of Phagocytosis and then it becomes a mass of multinucleate
protoplasm, which then has a bright yellow color,

The key ideas of my appropriation for Macbeth would include power and ambition. This would

tragedy and frequent death as the cost for something positive that would happen in this case it would
be that Macbeth sought out careless power without looking onto the consequences that would ensue
the near future being blinded by his own ambition and lust for power. These key ideas are relayed in

Influenza Viruses Are Responsible For An Average Of The...
Abstract
Influenza virus infection remains one of the largest disease burdens on humankind. Influenza
associated bacterial co infections contribute to severe disease and mortality, during pandemic and
seasonal influenza episodes. The mechanisms of severe morbidity following influenza bacterial co
infections mainly include failure of an antibacterial immune response and synergy of the pathogens.
Moreover, the failure to resume function and tolerance is one of the main reasons for excessive
mortality. In this review, some new advances of the mechanisms of severe disease associated with
bacterial co infections following influenza virus infection are discussedreviewed. Analysis of these
mechanisms should help to develop novel approaches for the prevention and treatment of severe
influenza virus co infections.
Keywords: co infection; influenza; bacteria; resume function; tolerance; mortality. Background
Despite modern medical and public health standards, influenza remains one of the main principal
lethal infectious diseases worldwide [1]. Influenza viruses are responsible for an average of 400,000
deaths per year globally [2, 3]. During previous influenza pandemics (H1N1, 1918; H2N2, 1957;
H3N2, 1968; and H1N1, 2009) and seasonal epidemics, many cases of influenza virus related deaths
actually occurred due to bacterial co infections [4 11]. Since the 1950s, researchers have increasingly
focused on concomitant infections with influenza viruses and a range of bacterial agents.

Discipline As A Teacher
Children must be taught and guided in the right direction. Whenever discipline is implemented, the
child is learning the proper behavior and is acquiring new knowledge. With the teacher s clear
explanation which will give the child understanding, the child should gain wisdom. Wisdom comes
through experience. Wisdom has been defined as having the knowledge of what is proper and
appropriate and having the ability to apply that knowledge with just judgment ccording to knowledge,
experience, and understanding (Merriam Webster s online dictionary, n.d). In order for our children to
grow in knowledge and understanding, they must learn and show discipline.
As teachers, we are challenged to guide our students in a way that encourages independence. This
means that what we are teaching them, they will learn to do for themselves. Discipline helps to instill
the proper behavior. Practicing the proper behavior produces routine. Routine then in turn displays
discipline. Discipline is taught. Where there is discipline, there comes knowledge and wisdom, which
exemplifies the purpose of teaching and learning.
When it comes to raising a child, which we as teachers also take on, we may all have different
methods, but each method should evolve from the guide that was given in the Good Book, The Holy
Bible. Ephesians 6:4 states, Fathers do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them.
Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. We must

How does this definition tie the people in this array to courage? What do they all have in common?
Each of these figures was a strong, successful leader. It is not a coincidence that this definition of
courage coincides with great leadership. There are many other examples and definitions of courage,
such as the other definition offered by Oxford: strength in the face of pain or grief (Oxford). Here, we
have a broader definition of courage that is less inclusive to negative examples. Yet, this definition
also embodies great leadership. Any leader of a minority group that has overcome obstacles to achieve
their goals fits into this definition, such as the previously mentioned Nelson Mandela. Mandela
protested against racism in the South African government and helped to destroy South Africa s
apartheid system ( Nelson Mandela ). Mandela contributed to the good life, embodied by life, liberty
and the pursuit of happiness by offering victims of discrimination opportunities to seek greater liberty
and happiness. All inspiring, influential leaders have contributed to the good life for people facing
injustice. Not all leaders, however, have made the good life their goal. Leaders like Hitler and Bin

will be diluted from 20vol to [X]vol by using 20/[X] the volume of 20vol H2O2 in distilled water.
Methods: Potassium iodide solution: 1. Using the equations; amount = mass/Mr and concentration =

Mexican Food Experiment
1.) Choose a food related topic that you want to test and write a purpose statement.
Ever since I can remember being able to tell my parents what I wanted for dinner it would always be
some type of mexican food. So when choosing my topic for my experiment it was a effortless
decision. My food related topic deals with Burritos. The purpose of this experiment is to find a way to
make a fried burrito with it falling apart.
2.) Write a justification for the testing you wish to do. Explain briefly why someone should be willing
to pay for your study.
I ve seen and tasted a lot of different kinds of fried desserts and other cooked good such as green
beans, spinach balls, and claims. There s a lot more chain mexican restaurants then there were when I
was growing up meaning that the consumers in america enjoy eating different culture foods. I believe
that somemone would be willing to pay for my study because of the fact that it s something new and
different in the since that I would be changing a common food recipe into a luxury meal due to the
ingredients inside of the burrito and on the outside after it is fried to perfection, which is a golden
brown color. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identify your controls, variables, desired sample size, etc.
The parameters of my study would be based around the type of tortilla I would use. The controls in
my experiment would have to be the cooking ingredients because they are not the independent
variables. Those would be the ingredients I would put on the top of the fried burrito. Such as sour
cream, lettus, tomatoes, salsa, and guacamole. The desired sample size I need to establish a sence of
legitmacy would be 20 subjects. This sample size would have to have at less 10 people who don t
favor eating mexican food and 10 of those who

The Cycle Of The Hydrologic Cycle
The hydrologic cycle, also known as the water cycle, is a continuous rotation of water changing states
through the Earth, ocean and atmosphere in a circulating system (Watts Forbes, 2011; US Department
of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013). The water cycle alters throughout different
locations due to weather patterns and climate around the world (Watts Forbes, 2011). The major
processes that make up the hydrologic cycle are evaporation, transpiration, condensation,
precipitation, and runoff, with many further processes as seen in Appendix 1.1 and simplified in
Appendix 1.2.
Evaporation
Evaporation, in general, involves a substance changing its physical state from a liquid to a gas (US
Department of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013; Northwest River Forecast Centre
[NRFC], n.d). An example of this is when the body heats up during exercise or due to temperature,
and releases sweat to try and cool down and producing water onto the skin (US Department of
Commerce, n.d). Energy is required for evaporation to occur, and this energy source can come from
the atmosphere, entities such humans, or in the case of the water cycle, the sun is the source of energy
(US Department of Commerce, n.d). During the hydrologic cycle, evaporation occurs when the sun
interacts with liquid water such has lakes and rivers, the ocean and soil, to cause water particles to
become water vapour by heating the water (National Geographic Society, n.d; Miller Spoolman,

Marking Vs Urinating Research
The answer to that question is Yes! It is easy to mistake peeing outside the box with territorial
marking. But they have quite different meanings to your cat. Until you know the difference and can
determine whether your cat is urinating or marking, it will be all but impossible to get to the root of
the problem.
As you know, before any of us can solve a problem, we need to know what is causing the situation. A
key factor that many cat owners over look is that there s a difference between your cat urinating or
marking.
Both urinating and marking can create a suffocating ammonia smell inside your home. However, they
are quite different activities rooted in distinct motivations. Until you understand what your cat is
trying to say to you, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the thousands of years cats lived outside and on their own, they survived by marking their
territories by spraying a pungent mixture of urine and chemicals from their anal glands. To the
discerning nose, the aroma of regular urine is distinct from marking spray. Granted, both are equally
unappealing when in the confines of your home, but I, for one, can tell the difference by smell alone.
A second way to tell whether our cats are urinating or spraying is to watch them in the act. Cats pee on
horizontal surfaces with their tails held parallel to the ground. Cats mark from a standing position, tail
held high and target vertical surfaces, like your kitchen cabinets or the back of your sofa. Wayward
urinaters may be saying, I m sick or I m upset. Marking cats have one message: This is mine! They
feel like their territory is threatened and are making a clear, albeit aromatic, statement.
Once you ve determined if your kitty is sick, upset or possessive, you can better formulate an effective
strategy to help your cat meet its needs so that you can, once again, live in an ammonia free breathing
zone. Check out some of my other articles to help you come up with the best strategy for your

The Moon Compare To The Moons Of Other Planets
Project 1: How Does the Moon Compare to the Moons of Other Planets
Earth s moon did not always exist. According to a theory known as the Big Whack, a roving planetoid,
Theia, and the ancient Earth were on the same plane in the solar system. Theia, which is believed to
have been at least the size of Mars, collided with the ancient Earth approximately 4.5 billion years
ago. The resulting debris, material from the ancient Earth s mantle, is what is said to have formed our
current day moon. All of the debris broke off of the ancient Earth and proceeded to fill the air. All of
this debris then eventually congealed and formed a solid moon.
When making a comparison between our moon and those of other planets it is interesting to view the
number of moons each planet has, their size, and their proportion of mass as compared to the planet.
Within the terrestrial planets, Mercury and Venus do not have moons, Earth has one moon, and Mars
has two. Earth has only one moon and this moon is only 1.2% of the mass of Earth. Mars has two
moons and they are 0.00002% of the mass of the planet. The Jovian planets have a much larger
number of moons. Jupiter has sixty seven, Saturn has fifty three, Uranus has twenty seven, and
Neptune has thirteen. Jupiter s many moons are 0.013% of the mass of the planet as a whole. Saturn s
moon are 0.04% of the planet s mass. Uranus moons comprise 0.01% of the mass of the planet.
Finally, Neptune s moons make up 0.02% of the planet s

Sexually Transmitted Diseases In The United States
Syphilis, AIDS, herpes, these are something no one wants, unfortunately, thousands live day to day in
hiding with these diseases. The number of reported sexually transmitted disease, also known as
venereal disease, have greatly increased since the mid 1900s. There are roughly twenty five different
types of sexually transmitted diseases in the United States that we encounter, such as HIV, AIDS,
genital warts, chlamydia, herpes, gonorrhea, hepatitis, syphilis, vaginitis and trichomonas s. In most
states today, medically, accurate sex education is required to be taught in public schools to the youth
community at some point to educate about the uncaring world of sexual diseases. However, the
processes to educate our youth are simply outdated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many sites that parents need to talk to their children about and regulate such as facebook,
snap chat, Instagram, Hot or Not, You tube, skype and twitter are just a few. This has become more of
a challenge for parents to protect their children. The youth today do not realize the dangers that they
may encounter on a daily basis. In the United States all states allow minors to consent to their own
health services for sexually transmitted diseases. Today children are developing at a much faster rate
and having sex at an earlier age unlike previous generations. Some of the action items that we can do
to help reduce the occurrences in our youth is to have them tested yearly and educate our youth on the
causes and prevention methods. There are injections that help prevent some of the STD s such as the
HPV vaccination. Scientist are still doing research on more vaccines that may later on be able to help
reduce these diseases. But until then we need to make sure that our children are equipped with the
knowledge about these diseases. Most of the youth do not realize that by using barriers such as
condoms, birth control, or topical

It Is Impossible To Create A Dystopian Society
According to the Webster Dictionary the definition of utopia is ...a place of ideal perfection especially
in laws, government, and social conditions... (Merriam Webster) . If utopia is really perfection what
happens when there is trouble in a utopia? Does that utopia suddenly become a dystopia because it is
not as perfect as it may seem? Thomas More s Utopia included these characteristics, it also contained
some unfavorable characteristics as well. A few of these dystopian characteristics include slavery, land
conquering, and social isolation when sick (More). Although there are many characteristics of
dystopia are intertwined with the utopian characteristics they are of not what makes a utopia a

characteristics include a peaceful government, access to healthcare as well as ... Show more content on

Every Utopia has certain characteristics that are almost a universal theme, but many of More s
characteristics were new for the age that he was writing in. Many universal themes included the ideas
of having an abundant amount of food, and shelter, and the lack of fear. The residents of More s island
were able to achieve many of these ideas especially having an abundant amount of food. This
abundance of food offers many different advantages to the residents. This food limits the amount of
fighting over land between residences. Without the fear of food need the scramble for land disappears.
Another advantage of More s island is that the residents are eating out of a communal pantry, which
limits the stress of people. By having a communal pantry the residents do not need to constantly worry
about farming, hunting, scavenging because they are all together

Global Effects Of The Cold War
Amanda Fuchs
The Global Effects of the Cold War and Decolonization The Cold War, also known as what could have
been the third world war, conquered the second half of the 20th century. This international crisis,
beginning at the end of World War II, is defined as the period of tension between the United States and
the Soviet Union. There are numerous reasons as to why many believed the Cold War commenced,
one being that the Soviet Union wanted to spread its belief of communism worldwide, which in turn
alarmed the democratic American society. This decades long war had numerous long lasting impacts
on the global world, as did decolonization. Major cold war events included: the build up of huge
armories of atomic weapons and ballistic missiles by the U.S and the Soviet Union, formation of
NATO and the Warsaw Pact, the policy of DĂ©tente, the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall, and the
collapsing of the Soviet Union. The Cold War and decolonization affected the global world by creating
a polarized and combative environment, and dividing the world on the basis of democracy versus
communism. Both the Soviet Union and United States had their own arsenals of weapons during the
Cold War, and this was made evident during the Cuban Missile Crisis, which began on October 14,
1962. Earlier in May of 1962, the United States attempted to overthrow the Cuban government. In
response, the Soviet Union, who controlled Cuba at the time, put missiles in Cuba to prevent further
attacks from the

Orange Play Doch Research Paper
Results The study revealed differences between the effects of Superflab, uncooked rice, green Play
Doh, and orange Play Doh when used as a bolus material. Each bolus type resulted in a different
Dmax when irradiated five separate times with two hundred monitor units (MU) with a field size of
10cm x 10cm (See Table 2). The solid water was the control variable in the experiment and the values
that resulted from irradiation of the solid water compared to each bolus variable resulted in different
values. Table 1 recorded the ratios that resulted from these values. ANOVA calculations from the
values shown in Table 1 resulted in an F value of 762.65. A large difference between the groups
resulted in a large F value. However, there was little difference ... Show more content on

The P value less than 0.01, from the Tukey HSD test, shows that the outcomes are not coincidental but
that there is a numerical or scientific reason for the results of the experiment. The outcomes of the
experiment show that there are significant differences between each bolus type. Exact bolus
placement, calculating constant air pressure and room temperature, rounding errors, and human error
are limitations that could skew the results of this experiment. The results are consistent with prior
studies that indicate there are alternative bolus material options that are more effective than Superflab.
According to the ratios to water in Table 1, investigators conclude that uncooked rice is the best
alternative to Superflab due to the fact that it is more similar and consistent than Superflab to solid
water when providing Dmax. The data infers that although using the alternative variables will suffice
as bolus, the compositions of Superflab, green Play Doh, and orange Play Doh do not provide the
maximum dose build up as well as uncooked rice. In conclusion, this experiment narrows the
informational gap when researching bolus materials and provides an answer to the question of which
bolus will be best to use in radiation

Lion Dancing
Lion Dancing Every time when you see youth swiftly glistening over the rampaging ungodly Earth
accompanied with the blistering heated wonder of the orb like sun, it can take you back to your
exhilarating days with no headaches, worries, or obligations also known as, childhood. Worries,
headaches, obligations, these are enemies within ourselves that we must overcome. These flea like
worries are infesting everyone. We are being overwhelmed by these creatures. The only ways to fight
off such beasts are to find relaxation, comfort, and soothing. These can come in different ways such as
an event, a ritual or even a location that eases your mind in tranquility. I have a special event where I
can be at ease and just enjoy: the lion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I head out towards the lion dance, I go through a maze like structure. On my way towards the
dance, an oppressive smell of gunpowder fills the unruly air. You can hear the deafening explosions
from the fire crackers dominating the skies. This place yet so full of commotion, I can just be at ease. I
can just enjoy what I see, the amazing spectacles that the Lion Dancers perform for me. It eludes me
in a carefree manner much like a mindset of a child. After some odd minutes, the maze is at its end.
Just a few more steps towards the carefree experience I have been striving for. Up the stairs, and
around the corner is the great spectacular I have been in search of, the lion dance. The oriental
designed lions, such use of dazzling colors. A blinding white base, with a bold red trim demonstrates
the wise lion. The single horn at the top is dignifying. Such ferociousness of the imitation of a lion, it
holds my interest on how they made it resemble the current lions so well when they didn t exist in
those parts of Asia. The thundering of the drums which so boldly overcomes the explosions from the
firecrackers initiates the dancing of the lions. The Lions with such pride and honor bow towards one
another in a sign of respect and agreement for the battle. The Buddha in high spirits guides the lions
while they brawl for the red envelope and lettuce. The footwork and

  • 6. Cultural Issues Created by the Prohibition Era. While the prohibition movement of the early twentieth century was brought on with a wholesome and moral mindset, the economic, political, and cultural factors relating to its origins and enactment untimely doomed it for failure. Such groups as the Women s Christian Temperance Union and the progressive party argued that drinking was the cause of political corruption, crime, bad labor conditions, and a declining sense of family values. These groups protests and rallies gained enormous support quickly for a constitution amendment as early as 1913 with the Jubilee Convention. Before the Eighteenth Amendment officially declared the U.S as a dry country, prohibition was already in effect in a majority of states and counties. By the time the amendment took effect in January of 1920, three of every four Americans lived in a dry county; and due to the enactment of the Webb Kenyon Act of 1913 outlawing the shipment of alcohol into dry states, the amendment caused little change in the lives of many Americans. Many hoped that prohibition would be the moral reform that would regenerate society; however, it resulted in more corruption and organized crime. Unperceived economic factors relating to bootlegging, taxes, and police enforcement heavily contributed to the demise of the prohibition era. As soon as the eighteenth amendment took effect a ring of bootlegging and organized gangs emerged. In addition to many of these bootleggers brewing their own moonshine to sell, several ... • 8. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Negotiation Negotiation could be seen in any aspects, any activities of our real life. Negotiations happen when there is a wide gap between two or more parties interests and targets. Hence, the goal of negotiation is simply to close that gap by finding out a middle group for both parties. In order to do that, it is required to develop a great deal of tactics to correctly evaluate ourselves and our counterparty, then come up with a suitable negotiation strategy. Amongst these requirements, self assessment is the first and the most important step to take. Hence, in this entry, my objective is exploring my past experiences in negotiation and see what are my strengths and weakness in doing so. As mentioned earlier, we negotiate quite often, much more often than we may think. We can negotiate at home, in our office, with our friends, families, colleagues or business partners. The participants, the interests, the motivations of each party vary from case to case. Sometimes we have time to prepare for the negotiation, sometimes we are just pushed to do it. Marriott implemented their own revenue management One Yield system twenty years ago to optimize individual guest room rates and allocation. One Yield is used in 97 percent of Marriott s 3,300 hotels in 70 different countries to handle over 75 million individual guest room transactions per year. Recently, Marriott decided to move from One Yield to Total Yield so its revenue management system would include all revenue generation instead of just individual guest rooms. To develop this system, Marriott created a proprietary Group Pricing Optimizer (GPO) to help hotel managers decide on what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The constraints would be the bookings, inventory, inventory rates and the already allocated rooms. Since One Yield works in a real time setting these constraints would change day to day to maximize profit. More complicated scenarios when groups and catering events are incorporated in the formula would require large complicated decision trees or programs such as QM for Windows. Deciding whether to use a room for an individual or as part of a group could be a large decision tree, but the probabilities of renting out the room would need to be decided. Deciding on the probabilities of renting a room to an individual guest that gets the best return is a complicated procedure, which is why a computer program would be best utilized. This step is the most complicated one. Marriot had to decide what ultimate factors should be used to price a room. This info was not revealed in the case because it is proprietary and has increased profit for Marriott by $120 million since its inception. Total Yield does an excellent job analyzing pricing for current hotels and is able incorporate a lot of different customer types. As Marriott moves forward and tweaks any problems that Total Yield has, the amount of group data is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Understanding And Treatment Of Psychological Disorders The definition, understanding and treatment of psychological disorders have changed over time. In the dark ages or mid evil times, people who behaved abnormally were quickly labelled as being mad or being possessed by spirits. The individuals were often held in isolation with their treatments being very cruel and harsh. In the eighteenth century, a French physician named Philippe Pinel challenged the cruel treatment methods and promoted a gentler and more humane approach. According to the American Psychiatric Association, a psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically significant disturbance in an individual s cognition, emotion regulation or behavior. (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Some people use the term psychological disorder in the same context as a mental illness or disorder. It is a behavior that leads to distress in an individual and prevents him or her from living a normal life to the point that they cannot perform daily chores. Certain behaviors have normal acceptable characteristics and if the behavior falls outside of this acceptable range, it can be considered a disorder. The behavior can be painful as well as harmful to the individual. One thing to note is that the behavior should not be something that is caused by a sudden stressful experience such as grief due to the death of a loved one. • 11. Cost Allocation Method Cost allocation is a method to determine the cost of services provided to users of that service. It does not determine the price of the service, but rather determines what the service costs to provide. It is important to determine the cost allocation of the services, in order to determine a justifiable fee/charge/tax for those services. Included in cost allocation are direct, indirect, and incremental costs. Direct costs, or separable costs, are costs that are related to a single type of service and are related to one type of output or user such as, a sector to sector hand off. It is like spreading the costs amongst those that use it. • 14. The Illustrated Man By Ray Bradbury Robert Suriel Dr. Keane Language Skills 12 19 14 The Illustrated Man In our Language skills class, we are reading Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury. This book is about short stories that take place in future. All of the short stories are based on different themes. For example in the short story, The Veldt theme is technology is controlling our lives. In the story the Veldt the house is fully programmed and high tech. The house takes over everything inside the house, even the roles of mothers and fathers. The three stories I am talking about today is the Marionettes, Inc, The City and Zero Hour. Marionettes, Inc opens up when two men are walking slowly down the street. Then it tells us their age, boy men where thirty five years old. Their names were Smith and Braling. Then Smith asked Braling Your first time out in years and you go home at ten o clock. then a little after Smith said I wonder how do you manage it. I ve been trying to get you out for ten years for a quiet drink. And now, on the one night, you insist on turning in early. • 16. Wireless Communication And Control System WIRELESS COMMUNICATION WITH BCI Abstract A Brain Computer Interface is a communication and control system in which human mind can be translated to the external world without the help of the normal output pathways of muscles and nerves. Each time we do something or think about doing something, our brain generates distinct signals. These signals corresponding to an activity, has a pattern. Finding this pattern is a challenging job and is the main task of any Brain Computer Interface. A BCI acquires these signals from the brain of a user in the form of Electroencephalography (EEG). Then after pre processing, feature extraction and classification, it translates these signals into meaningful commands or instructions to drive a device or application. Electroencephalography is used to record electrical fields that represent the brain signals and are generated due to the local brain function. Most of the applications today are only used in computers and just focus on the realization of direction strategies. To meet the potential increasing user s needs and explore interacting processes with people s mental states, we design an application that maps signals from the human brain and performs operations like calling, messaging, gaming and photography. The brain signals are mapped and stored to create different commands using a series of refined signal processing procedures. These commands are declared and defined to perform the above mentioned operations like calling, messaging, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gabriel Garcia Marquez s The Handsomest Drowned Man In The World, and Carson McCuller s Sucker are both excellent examples of short stories that, despite having undeniably different plots, feature the overarching theme of transformation: the propellant through life. Romeo and Juliet s forbidden love was because of the feud between their families. In 1865 to 1866, before Radical Reconstruction, former slaves were often subject to Black Codes which, based on slave codes, established black subordination to whites . Hence, their removal and the further attempts to provide opportunities for freedmen was essential in creating life outside of slavery. Education was one such success, providing African Americans with opportunities to learn skills outside of labour. One prominent example of the government s investment into education was South Carolina, which under the work of Cardozo and Smalls, made education mandatory within their state and helped create over 3000 schools . The effect was clear, black literacy rates doubled during the decade of Radical Reconstruction and freedmen began expanding their skillset beyond physical labour . Whilst the social milestones of education and other civil opportunities in the South were a crucial step, ultimately, their progress was limited by the refusal of the government to provide an economic basis for African Americans to live. Most Republican politicians after the 14th and 15th Amendments were uninterested in providing freedmen with the facilities to be equal. This is seen in the quick rejection of Thaddeus Stevens Land Redistribution proposal to give 40 acres of land to all males . MAPK And The Regulation Of The Isolation Of Eukaryotic Cells Introduction Isolation of DNA along with transcriptional material in the nucleus, by the nuclear envelope, from the cytoplasm and the translational material held there gives the opportunity for exact regulation (Lange et al, 2006). The nuclear envelope provides the ability for regulation of gene expression and signal transduction. With this regulation cells can, if exposed to an extracellular signal, perceive and create an intracellular response to withstand or react to such a signal, for example, by signalling cascades with the use of mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) (Brown and Sacks, 2009). JNK can also be phosphorylated by autophosphorylation most notable in the JNK2 isoforms where it still allows initiation of substrates with the strongest occurrence in JNK22 (Tsuiki et al, 2003). There are three kinases involved in the MAPK phosphorelay system which act in series: MAPK kinase kinase (MKKK), MAP kinase (MKK) and MAPK (JNK), which respond to external stimuli, shown in Figure 1 (Johnson et al, 2005). During previous influenza pandemics (H1N1, 1918; H2N2, 1957; H3N2, 1968; and H1N1, 2009) and seasonal epidemics, many cases of influenza virus related deaths actually occurred due to bacterial co infections [4 11]. Since the 1950s, researchers have increasingly focused on concomitant infections with influenza viruses and a range of bacterial agents. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. WGU JET Task 2 Essay 1. With the release of the new budget for year 9 from Competition Bikes, there are a couple of areas that are a concern that warrant being addressed. The first being the prediction of amount of bikes to be sold; Competition Bikes is expecting 3,510 units to be sold after a year 8 that sold only 3,400 units which was a 15% drop in sales from the year prior (which sold approximately 4,000 units) with zero drop in price point which may make it harder for customers to justify purchasing a bike in the current economy. Understandably, year 8 was in the middle of a recession and the economy could rebound for a productive year 9. However, with only an extra $984 being spent on advertisement, the expectations could fall short unless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The company had a budget of $5,247,250, with the flexible budget being $5,117,385, however the final numbers were $5,096,847, which gives the company an unfavorable variance of $130,065. Total Variable Cost however was a favorable expense. With a planned budget of $3,967,962 and a flexible budget of $3,869,612 the actual output was $3,805,400 the favorable variance came out to $98,349. Contribution margin was also an unfavorable variance ( $31,716). Advertising Expenses went over cost for an unfavorable variance of $3,754 from a standard budget of $28,412 and a flexible budget of $27,708. The extra money spent towards advertising may have been to help boost extra sales towards the end of the year. Transportation Out also went over its budget for an unfavorable variance by $5,607. However, there is more to the Transportation Out than what the budget says. The price of shipment is supposed to be $30 per unit and with 87 less units sold; there should be an extra $2,610 in the budget. This requires extra investigation. 2A. In terms of corrective action, the best course is to focus on where the points where there were unfavorable variances. A key point to that would be to also create realistic predictions of sales and budget. By predicting a high sales goal (one that exceeds the amount of units sold the year prior), Competition Bikes is potentially setting itself up for another down year. • 36. Discipline As A Teacher Children must be taught and guided in the right direction. Whenever discipline is implemented, the child is learning the proper behavior and is acquiring new knowledge. With the teacher s clear explanation which will give the child understanding, the child should gain wisdom. Wisdom comes through experience. Wisdom has been defined as having the knowledge of what is proper and appropriate and having the ability to apply that knowledge with just judgment ccording to knowledge, experience, and understanding (Merriam Webster s online dictionary, n.d). In order for our children to grow in knowledge and understanding, they must learn and show discipline. As teachers, we are challenged to guide our students in a way that encourages independence. This means that what we are teaching them, they will learn to do for themselves. Discipline helps to instill the proper behavior. Practicing the proper behavior produces routine. Routine then in turn displays discipline. Discipline is taught. Where there is discipline, there comes knowledge and wisdom, which exemplifies the purpose of teaching and learning. When it comes to raising a child, which we as teachers also take on, we may all have different methods, but each method should evolve from the guide that was given in the Good Book, The Holy Bible. Ephesians 6:4 states, Fathers do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. We must ... This film was apart of the Latin American Studies week at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. This film was a documentary about Rafael Alcides, a poet from Cuba. This film was mostly an interview with Alcides, who talked about his life and living through the Cuban Revolution. This in depth interview ranges from the struggle of how Alcides, a once famous person, is now nadie or nobody. Alcides is currently in the process of trying to save his work as most of his writing is written in fading ink. Additionally, his interview discusses at length about how he views the revolution like an old girlfriend . After Fidel Castro died, he and many others realized their lifelong fight was for ... This film was a very abstract form of art that was a little difficult to process. I am still trying to grasp it all, but overall I found that this film accomplished everything that it set out to do. The best part of going to this event was being able to stay for the Q A session following the movie with director Miguel Coyula. I learned a lot more about how Coyula was able to manipulate his shots and animate certain portions of the film. Coyula also explained that this film is heavily censored in Cuba. In fact, he told us that he is banned from showing his film in Cuba. This film was also rejected by the Miami Film Festival because of their being so many Cubans who could see it and by Michael Moore and his Detroit Film Festival because of the negative messages about Cuba this film might send. Of these five traits, a student s possession of courage will take him or her on the greatest path to success. USC relates the trait courageous to itself by proclaiming that students are bold when faced with opportunities to contribute to USC s continuous efforts to build a greater university for generations to come ( Five Traits of a Trojan ). Each of these figures was a strong, successful leader. It is not a coincidence that this definition of courage coincides with great leadership. There are many other examples and definitions of courage, such as the other definition offered by Oxford: strength in the face of pain or grief (Oxford). Here, we have a broader definition of courage that is less inclusive to negative examples. Yet, this definition also embodies great leadership. Any leader of a minority group that has overcome obstacles to achieve their goals fits into this definition, such as the previously mentioned Nelson Mandela. Mandela protested against racism in the South African government and helped to destroy South Africa s apartheid system ( Nelson Mandela ). Mandela contributed to the good life, embodied by life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by offering victims of discrimination opportunities to seek greater liberty and happiness. All inspiring, influential leaders have contributed to the good life for people facing injustice. Not all leaders, however, have made the good life their goal. • 42. The Cycle Of The Hydrologic Cycle The hydrologic cycle, also known as the water cycle, is a continuous rotation of water changing states through the Earth, ocean and atmosphere in a circulating system (Watts Forbes, 2011; US Department of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013). The water cycle alters throughout different locations due to weather patterns and climate around the world (Watts Forbes, 2011). The major processes that make up the hydrologic cycle are evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, and runoff, with many further processes as seen in Appendix 1.1 and simplified in Appendix 1.2. Evaporation Evaporation, in general, involves a substance changing its physical state from a liquid to a gas (US Department of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013; Northwest River Forecast Centre [NRFC], n.d). An example of this is when the body heats up during exercise or due to temperature, and releases sweat to try and cool down and producing water onto the skin (US Department of Commerce, n.d). Energy is required for evaporation to occur, and this energy source can come from the atmosphere, entities such humans, or in the case of the water cycle, the sun is the source of energy (US Department of Commerce, n.d). During the hydrologic cycle, evaporation occurs when the sun interacts with liquid water such has lakes and rivers, the ocean and soil, to cause water particles to become water vapour by heating the water (National Geographic Society, n.d; Miller Spoolman, ... A second way to tell whether our cats are urinating or spraying is to watch them in the act. Cats pee on horizontal surfaces with their tails held parallel to the ground. • 44. The Moon Compare To The Moons Of Other Planets Project 1: How Does the Moon Compare to the Moons of Other Planets Earth s moon did not always exist. According to a theory known as the Big Whack, a roving planetoid, Theia, and the ancient Earth were on the same plane in the solar system. Theia, which is believed to have been at least the size of Mars, collided with the ancient Earth approximately 4.5 billion years ago. The resulting debris, material from the ancient Earth s mantle, is what is said to have formed our current day moon. All of the debris broke off of the ancient Earth and proceeded to fill the air. All of this debris then eventually congealed and formed a solid moon. When making a comparison between our moon and those of other planets it is interesting to view the number of moons each planet has, their size, and their proportion of mass as compared to the planet. Within the terrestrial planets, Mercury and Venus do not have moons, Earth has one moon, and Mars has two. Earth has only one moon and this moon is only 1.2% of the mass of Earth. Mars has two moons and they are 0.00002% of the mass of the planet. The Jovian planets have a much larger number of moons. Jupiter has sixty seven, Saturn has fifty three, Uranus has twenty seven, and Neptune has thirteen. Jupiter s many moons are 0.013% of the mass of the planet as a whole. Global Effects Of The Cold War Amanda Fuchs The Global Effects of the Cold War and Decolonization The Cold War, also known as what could have been the third world war, conquered the second half of the 20th century. This international crisis, beginning at the end of World War II, is defined as the period of tension between the United States and the Soviet Union. There are numerous reasons as to why many believed the Cold War commenced, one being that the Soviet Union wanted to spread its belief of communism worldwide, which in turn alarmed the democratic American society. This decades long war had numerous long lasting impacts on the global world, as did decolonization. Major cold war events included: the build up of huge armories of atomic weapons and ballistic missiles by the U.S and the Soviet Union, formation of NATO and the Warsaw Pact, the policy of DĂ©tente, the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall, and the collapsing of the Soviet Union. The Cold War and decolonization affected the global world by creating a polarized and combative environment, and dividing the world on the basis of democracy versus communism. Both the Soviet Union and United States had their own arsenals of weapons during the Cold War, and this was made evident during the Cuban Missile Crisis, which began on October 14, 1962. Exact bolus placement, calculating constant air pressure and room temperature, rounding errors, and human error are limitations that could skew the results of this experiment. The results are consistent with prior studies that indicate there are alternative bolus material options that are more effective than Superflab. According to the ratios to water in Table 1, investigators conclude that uncooked rice is the best alternative to Superflab due to the fact that it is more similar and consistent than Superflab to solid water when providing Dmax. The data infers that although using the alternative variables will suffice as bolus, the compositions of Superflab, green Play Doh, and orange Play Doh do not provide the maximum dose build up as well as uncooked rice.
