Caesar Augustus
History is made up of individuals who were just living the life they wanted to live. Their actions ended
up making an impact on our world as we know it. At the time they probably had no clue that the
actions they put forth in their time would eventually lead up to the world we know today. Their life
events may not have been grand, but they were enough to make an impact. Caesar Augustus is one
example of a person in history who led a successful life.
Born Gaius Octavius on September 23, 63 B.C., in Velletri, Italy. Augustus was a sickly child with few
connections. Although, one connection he did have was being the great nephew of Julius Caesar.
Augustus was known by three different names throughout his life. From birth to 44 B.C. he was
known as Octavius, in 44 B.C. he was adopted and changed his name to Octavian and in 26 B.C. he
was named Augustus by the Roman Senate. His father worked as a senator and governor of the Roman
Republic, and passed away when Augustus was four years old; Caesar s niece Atai was his mother. In
his younger years, his grandmother Julia Ceasaris helped raise him; she was the sister of Julius Caesar.
Augustus took on the Roman sign of manhood of wearing the toga at age 16, and began taking on
responsibilities through his family connections. At the time Rome was dangerous and engulfed in a
civil war, one faction of the war was led by

Northern Mockingbird Characteristics
President Thomas Jefferson had a pet mockingbird named Dick ( Northern Facts ). The Northern
Mockingbird has many distinctive characteristics. These characteristics include how the mockingbird
prefers specific habitats, how their feeding habits is unusual, and how the nesting habits are unique.
The mockingbird is very well known for its songs and imitation of other sounds. Mockingbirds are
very territorial and defensive; mockingbirds are known to attack to protect their young and nesting
sites.
The Northern Mockingbird has many distinctive characteristics; such as they prefer specific habitats,
their unusual eating habits, and their nesting habits.
Mockingbirds prefer a specific habitat that includes hedges, suburban gardens, and orchard margins
with an abundance of available fruit. It is especially important that there are hedgerows of multi flora
roses ( Birds of Minnesota and Wisconsin ). When the mockingbird goes walking they prefer areas
with large open ground with shrub like vegetation such as parks and cultivated land ( All About Birds
).
The feeding habits of mockingbirds are unusual for a bird. The mockingbird changes what it eats with
the seasons, in the summer they prefer insects such as beetles, moths, earthworms, butterflies, bees,
ants, grasshoppers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mockingbird s song is a medley of mimicked phrases, with the phrases repeated 3 times or more;
calls include a harsh chair and chewk (Janssen, Tessen, Kennedy 260). Mockingbirds can imitate
vocalizations of different birds, musical instruments, and barking dogs. They replicate sounds so
accurately that even computerized auditory analysis is unable to figure out the differences differences
between the original source and the mockingbird s imitation (Janssen, Tessen, Kennedy 260). The
easiest way to first identify a mockingbird is by listening for its song, which mimics numerous
different birds at once ( All About

Race And Manifest Destiny Analysis
Reginald Horsman argues in Race and Manifest Destiny: The Origins of American Racial Anglo
Saxonism that the idea of racial inferiority gained it s full connotation during the beginning of the 18th
century to the mid 19th century. I was then used as a justification for Indigenous genocide, the theft of
Mexican land, and slavery. I personally liked how he was able to draw from the origins of this
ideology in which he talked about how Anglo Saxonism wasn t always racially motivated. According
to Horsman, Anglo Saxonism had to do with mainly English heritage and was implemented within
politics and history. Eventually however it became a racially motivated ideology that through the rise
of what he calls scientific racialism which was heavily

The Inconvenience Of Reading In Charles Foster Kane s...
The Inconvenience of Reading
Young children are egocentric, unable to understand the world around them from a perspective other
than their own. Yet due to neural plasticity, they rapidly develop agglutinative schemas, categories of
knowledge that shape how they understand and respond to the world. As time passes, their horizons
expand and solidify. Now adults, they read the world as we all do: through contextual mediums and
filters. While the relationship between the reader and the world is multiplex, reading is an essential
means by which one constructs and derives meaning.
Since we read the world through mediums, mass media is one of the most potent institutions. It
cultivates societal and cultural norms, serving as an educator and entertainer. The media builds
narratives, framing real life events to fulfill their agendas. In Citizen Kane, publishing tycoon Charles
Foster Kane capitalizes on the power of modern mass media. He uses the New York Inquirer to lead
his yellow journalism crusade. The sensationalist narratives he directs lead the newspaper s readers to
view Cuban independence via a war with Spain as a necessity.
Kane is not alone. A number of governments frame the news to control how their citizens read the
world. Propaganda films and firewalls alike allow the state to manufacture its own narrative in the
context of global affairs. In democratic nations alike, yellow journalism tactics have mutated to adapt
to today s media channels, social media and traditional

Essay On The Role Of Women In Heart Of Darkness
In the Heart of Darkness you see a lot about Africa in the 1900s through an imperialistic view
considering that s where Conrad is from. There are also a lot of behind the scenes importance nobody
really picks up on. Women in the Heart of Darkness played more of a role in the book than people
think, and it also portrays the effects on Africa and all of Europe, slowly. In the 1900s, women in
advanced areas of the worlds have always been fighting for equal rights. When you take a look at that
history, women are either protagonists or in most cases they are just being submissive to their husband
or whomever it may be. Heart of Darkness mainly focuses on Men because back then despite Queen
Victoria being the most powerful at the time, so you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have the foresight and can see into every man s fate, so they are pretty much a big deal if you believe
in that sort of stuff. Maybe this also doesn t catch your eye whiles you read, Marlow may have had a
mentally lasting impact from it based from his initial reaction. Another woman you most definitely
could not ignore was Kurtz s African Mistress. She caught the eye of Marlow based off of the vivid
description given. He mentions that She walked with measured steps, draped in striped and fringed
clothes, treading the earth proudly, carrying her head high, her hair was in the shape of a helmet, she
had brass leggings to the knee, brass wire gauntlets, etc, etc, you get the point. This woman isn t just
Kurtz s mistress, she carries the personification of Africa herself, dark and mysterious and from
Marlow s description of her being gorgeous, embodying all the beauty, mystery and danger within
Africa. She also carries some power with her or influence over the natives around the station, and
Kurtz himself. This was probably one of the only women who showed clear influence whiles the other
women mentioned in this article were more background like the 1900s from a man s perspective

Reflection On Taboos
For this sequence, our focus was on taboos. This comes out a little in Taylors New Persona and was
my main focus in Inked . I think by including these pieces of work it helps talk about the taboos in
society and it helps shed some light on the untold truths. The second assignment was my story told
through different lenses; this helped me try and expand on my writing style and adapt to writing in a
college setting. For my Taylor Swift assignment, I took very detailed notes on the music video to try
and help me get a good idea of exactly what was going on. I then decided to have my main focus on
the dark spots on Taylor Swifts career. I decided to focus on these because most of the music video
focused in on her past and how it has changed her to be a new person. In the video, there was also
reference to taboos which I explained in my writing. I was very confident on this paper and decided
not to revise for that reason.
In my second assignment, I wanted to try out as many different writing styles as I could. My goal for
my first story, My Voice , reflected my true writing style. I wanted to make it somewhat humorous and
I feel like I achieved this. Compared to this, it was different when writing the School of Horror story. I
had to get into a different mindset when writing it and I feel like I accomplished it very well. The story
about my grandparents I used more simplistic language and I accomplished this by using words like I
fell or I was nervous . The

High Fructose Corn Syrup and Obesity in America When I was growing up my mother would always
steer me clear of sugary, unhealthy snacks. So much so that when I finally was able to get a taste of
them, I didn t want to stop. After tasting this new sensation my body craved more. The cereals she
bought paled in comparison to the bright, colorful flavors of the likes of Fruity Pebbles and Trix. She
always bought organic foods and healthy snacks that never tasted quite as good as the sugar blasted

food was the way I lived until I got my first job. With my own money I was now able to buy food ...

The panel stated that since the ratio of fructose to glucose had not changed substantially in the United
States since the 1960s when HFCS was introduced, the changes in obesity rates were probably not due
to HFCS specifically, but rather a greater consumption of calories overall. In 2009 the American
Medical Association published a review article on HFCS and concluded it was unlikely that HFCS
contributed more to obesity or other health conditions than sucrose, and there was insufficient
evidence to suggest warning about or restricting use of HFCS or other fructose containing sweeteners
in foods. The review did report that while some studies found direct associations between high intakes
of fructose and other sugars and adverse health outcomes, including obesity and the metabolic

Tsar Bomba Research Paper
Tsar bomba, a.k.a. Hydrogen bomb, is the most powerful nuclear weapon ever to be created. The
leading scientists for the soviets Andrei Sakharov, Yakov Borisovich Zel dovich, Yulii Borisovich
Khariton, and Yuri Trutnev are the physicists most credited for its creation. The Tsar Bomba was first
tested in 1961 above Mityushikha Bay; all 50 megatons and 60,000 pounds of it was dropped 13,000
feet in the air and the power from the tsar bomb was 10 times stronger than all the explosives used in

considered America s bravest time and not in a good way, to launch a weapon with such power has to

MANIC DEPRESSION
Estimates say that about 2 and a half million Americans suffer from manic depressive illness. Also
called bipolar disorder, this mental illness involves episodes in which a persons mood alternates
between extreme mania and depression. A person may experience pressure and racing thoughts and
speech, and often uncontrolled reckless behavior. Two thirds of those who suffer from bipolar illness
have numerous episodes of recurrences of alternating phases. Most people suffering from manic
depressive illness experience extreme cases of up and Dow emotion. Studies say manic depression is

Certain things may happen thats out of their normal character like taking plane trips all over the
country or making large investments. Excessive gambling , buying very expensive items, abusing
alcohol or drugs, and making unwanted sexual advances.
Causes of manic depression seem to be rooted in the genes. Studies used on identical twin show that if
one twin has bipolar disorder its a 70% chance the other will have it too.
With fraternal twins its only a 15% chance that the other will have bipolar disorder.
Bipolar disorder seems to run in families. Personal or work related stress can trigger a manic episode.
Other factors such as prenatal development, childhood experiences, and social conditions can play a
huge role.
Some people enjoy the sensations and energies that accompany manic episodes. It is proven that very
mild cases of manic depression can actually attribute to success in business and arts. A person may
experience episodes of over confidence which may result in unfortunate consequences because of a
bad business venture. The milder, chronic form of bipolar illness is called cyclothymic disorder. This
form alternates between mild depression and mild mania. When someone is in the in the stage of a
euphoric episode, their behavior may seem a bit odd, or in some cases completely bizarre. They may
become involved in such goal oriented activities such as sex, work, school, or social

Part A: Summary
Text:
The War of the Worlds (1898), a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, is the first person narrative of an
unnamed protagonist s (and his brother s) adventures in Surrey and London as Earth is invaded by
aliens. Written in 1895, it is one of the earliest stories that details a conflict between mankind and an
extraterrestrial race. Despite its age, this book is still a widely enjoyed classic, and has inspired nearly
50 movies, 6 Broadway productions, and 2 musicals (one of which I personally own) in its time! The

The narrator escapes detection by hiding in the coal cellar.
The Martians eventually depart, and the narrator is able to head toward Central London. He once
again encounters the artilleryman, who briefly persuades him to cooperate in a grandiose plan to
rebuild civilization underground. But after a few hours the narrator perceives the lunacy of this plan
and the overall laziness of his companion and abandons the artilleryman to his delusions. Heading into
a deserted London, he is at the point of despair and offers his life to the aliens when he discovers that
the invaders have died from microbial infections to which they had no immunity, since there are no
bacteria in Mars. The narrator realises with joy that the threat has been vanquished. The narrator
suffers a brief breakdown of which he remembers nothing, he is nursed back to health by a kind
family, and returns home to find his wife, whom he had given up for dead. The last chapter, entitled
Epilogue, reflects on the significance of the invasion and the abiding sense of doubt and insecurity that
it has left in the narrator s mind.

Determining the Underlying Causes of Asthma Essay
Asthma is the most common worldwide chronic condition that affects both young and old. It is a
condition in which the air way passages are narrowed leading to symptoms of wheezing, shortness of
breath, chest tightness, and cough (Bijanzadeh, Mahesh, Nallur 1). Asthma is caused by increased
infiltration of inflammatory cells into the airway, constriction, airway smooth muscle hypertrophy, and
mucous hypersecretion in the bronchiolar walls of the lung (Bijanzadeh, Mahesh, Nallur 1). Most
asthma attacks are short, a few minutes to a few hours, and the person recovers completely this is
called episodic asthma disease. However, those who have acute severe asthma is much more serious

As the people involved in this study observed the degree of expression of asthma within genetically
similar populations they discovered that asthma between children of similar genetic ancestry that live
in different environments have significant differences in prevalence rates (Subbarao, Mandhane, and
Sears 182). The results included Chinese children who lived in China had a lower prevalence rate,
Chinese who were born in China but migrated to Canada had an intermediate rate, and Chinese
students who were born and lived in Canada had the greatest prevalence rate (Subbarao, Mandhane,
and Sears 182). In addition, the non Chinese children living in Canada still had a greater prevalence
rate compared to the Chinese children living there (Subbarao, Mandhane, and Sears 182). This result
from this study strongly supports their hypothesis of gene by environment interactions in which
people with similar genetic makeup inherit sensitivity to the effects of various environmental risk
factors.
However on the other hand whether genetics plays an important role in the development of asthma has
been strongly accepted as numerous family and twin studies have been made. Genome wide linkage
studies and case control studies have identified 18 genomic regions and more than 100 genes
associated with allergy and asthma in 11 different populations (Subbarao, Mandhane, and Sears

The Effects Of Manic Depression On My Undergraduate Majors...
Mom is in the hospital again, my father said to me over the phone one evening this past April. Having
spent the majority of that day at work counseling and planning for a client with suicidal ideation, my
father s phone call instantly put me on alert. Unfortunately, this was not the first time I received this
call regarding my mother. Manic depression has been a lifelong battle and this was her third suicide
attempt. However this time was different; this time, I knew how to react and how to help her.
My undergraduate majors at Syracuse University were psychology and forensic science. As part of the
curriculum, I took a variety of classes such as abnormal psychology and forensic mental health, all of
which taught me a great deal about mental illness. Book knowledge in hand, I then applied myself to
hands on training through multiple internships during college and a full time job as a psychiatric
counselor after graduating in 2014.
In 2011 and 2013, I had two summer internships with Cornerstone Montgomery: the first working in
the Life Skills Program, and the second working in their 24 hour crisis residential facility. While
working in the Life Skills Program, I fostered my interest in working with those who suffer from
severe and persistent mental illness. I taught my clients skills needed for rehabilitation including
eating healthy on a budget, basic computer skills, and medication management. When I returned to

The Process of Decision Making Essay
Organizational behavior helps managers to improve the organization in a good way. Decision making
process is the one of the behavior in human organizational behavior. According to McShane and Von

As stated by Prasad (2008), the managers should identify the different choices available in order to get

Successful Sports Organizations
Nowadays, it is really important for sports organizations to set themselves apart from other
organizations in the industry. That essentially determines if an organization is more successful than
others or not. Trying to capture the audience and build up a fan base is not always the easiest part to
do within the sports industry especially in today s world where every organization competes against
each other to sell more tickets and make more revenue. However, the main question is how can sports
organizations separate themselves from each other, create a fan base that is very supportive and stay
competitive within the industry?
That question can be answered with one simple word: storytelling. People have always like stories
especially when they feel like they are emotionally engaged in the story. And that is where a sports
organization needs to start. To be able to set themselves apart they need to be able to tell a story that
the customer believes and trusts in a story that is not only given by the sports organization but
something creative and well thought through so that the fan feels involved and part of the team. And
the better a sports organization can tell their story the easier it will be to sell tickets to their customers.

I think that the IGRA has its positives and negatives. Casinos prey on addicts and alcohol/drug abuse,
but they also bring in billions of dollars that flourishes economic development. The act is appropriate
for its historical context because gaming brings pride to the reservation, such as Native languages,
culture and Indian dance. The thing about Native Americans, is that they are not materialistic people.

Pharmacist Accomplishments
Last week, I had the privilege of listening to Dr. Phil Schneider, the director of pharmacy at the Olathe
Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. Dr. Schneider s lecture reemphasized the need for students to
consider residency programs after graduating from the Doctor of Pharmacy program (PharmD). As a
third year pharmacy student, I have heard so much about how residency could make me an
outstanding pharmacist, but never took it seriously. However, hearing it directly from a director of
pharmacy that residency will get me the job, promotion and networking opportunities after graduation
has rekindled my interest in doing residency. Since the inception of my pharmacy program, I have
never given doing a residency program the consideration I have given ... Show more content on

Dr. Schneider spoke about how he succeeded his boss after she left for another job offer because his
employers considered him better trained and equipped for the job as a result of doing a residency. For
a pharmacist who just started working without any prior residency training, the confidence to serve at
a higher level would have been missing. It is certain that residency will give me the experience to be
well rounded in my profession and also confer the confidence I need to take on more challenging roles
in life. Another way residency can help me as a pharmacist is in the aspect of building a strong
networking team. As a resident, I will have the opportunity to work with numerous people from
different backgrounds where knowledge transfer can take place. This will help me learn new skills,
new ideas, and also gain meaningful experience from other senior colleagues. There would be times I
need advice in making a therapeutic decision and knowing someone to call could make a huge
difference.
In conclusion, doing a residency program after graduation is such a great way to be an outstanding and
successful pharmacist in life. Residency will not only get me a dream job, but it can also help me gain
accelerated promotion in my work place and build a strong networking foundation as a

Alicia Panganiban Essay
I would like to express a hearty recommendation for Alicia Panganiban for the American Association
of University of Women (AAUW) International Fellowships for her Master of Theology program at
Princeton. Since my father, Cullen I K Story taught at Princeton for ca. 25 years, I know the area and
the school very well. I also had the privilege of teaching with him in the summer language program
many years ago. Her training at Princeton will greatly benefit Alicia as well as her career goal of
ministering to girls and women, especially in her culture where women play subordinate roles to men.
In my estimation Alicia will well represent the commitment and thrust of PTS as well as the mission
of AAUW. I have known Alicia for about six years, both as a student and a teaching assistant. I also
consider her as a personal friend. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She has always been kind, encouraging, positive of and supportive, both of me as her professor and
the students she helped over the years in which she served as a Teaching Assistant. During her prior
ministry, she discovered her passion for teaching, which was then stirred as she studied as a student,
and then as she helped mentor students in our Masters programs. During her program at Regent, she
has been an exceptional Teaching Assistant for New Testament courses, Unity of the Bible, and
several Greek and hermeneutics courses. I have been impressed by the vitality and vibrancy of her
Christian faith; she consistently prays with and for students and seeks to find opportunities to assist
students in their various life challenges. Her background in the Philippines makes her especially alert

Pros And Cons Of Cyrus
In the mid first millennium BCE, numerous groups arose, each with a different set of perspectives,
worldviews, and attitudes: the Israelites, the Phoenicians, Neo Assyrians, Persians and Greeks, and so
on. For the Jews, they were held captive in Babylon, later returned to Jerusalem by Cyrus, the King of
the Persians. Therefore, according to the first article, Cyrus was welcome within their society. These
people were extremely religious, especially in regards to Marduk, and they all felt the need to help
build their temple in Jerusalem. Everyone wanted to help for their beliefs and God, and gave gifts,
money, and resources. Even the Greeks, who later defeated the Persians, saw Cyrus as a model ruler
(textbook 132). Even more so, according to the Persian Customs article, most of the clans were made
by Cyrus, and the rest, nomad tribes, heavily depended on Cyrus tribes. The Greeks, meanwhile, had
their own opinions on the Persians, seen through Herodotus words. He states that the Persians do not
see the Gods, as they have no temples, and instead offer sacrifices; almost as if they enjoy the killings.
During this, the Persian sacrificer does not pray to himself, but to all of the Persians, which illustrates
how these people truly cared about their empire, and had great respect for the King, also sacrificing to
the sun, moon, earth, wind instead of seeing the God itself (Persian Customs). The Greeks did not
agree with the Persians, and around this time had many conflicts.

Biography Of Elvis Presley
About 70 years ago, Elvis Presley roamed the world. At age 13, his hair was dark brown like some
people s eyes, and his eyes were green like fresh grass being watered. He was regular height, 5 1 with
no tattoos, but is planning on getting them all over his arms. His favorite outfit was black pants with a
black or green t shirt or once in a while, a fancy long sleeve shirt. One really good thing about him is
that he sang really well. He worked at a little food truck that when you come up to it, it smells like
melted cheese and toasted bread. He also took singing lessons with his dad. He was always conceited
and would think he s the best, but he was very caring. Him and his dad had a quote they used to tell

The Social Construction Of Heterosexuality
How you feel isn t what you are
Bethany E. Drake
Composition 1010
Shannon Ward
17 October 2017
How you feel isn t what you are This is a argumentative essay against the notions of gender roles
portrayed by masculine and feminine traits, from section four of Composing Gender How Do We
Define Sexuality ? The idea that one individual can feel masculine or feel feminine does not make
them a male or female. Throughout Composing Gender, many readings refer to sexuality as an
inevitable part of gender construction, several authors use the terms heteronormative and compulsory
heterosexuality to describe a social structure in which the expression of sexuality is seen as normal
only. (Groner, 2014, par.3 p. 184) Your gender is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
209) The use of the word faggot is the worst epithet anyone could call you as a male or female. This is
the assumption that you are not meeting the un stated facts of masculinity, causing you to seem
weaker, revealing more feminine traits. Bringing on the assumption that you are in fact gay or lesbian
or even bi. It is also said within this passage that most boys call others faggots as a joke but won t call
anyone a fag if there is a homosexual around (Pascoe, 2011, p. 212 213). Though overall no one is
claimed a faggot at all, the only thing that these children used to determine who was or wasn t a fag
was their clothes how they took care of themselves and other things. Pascoe seems that the term
faggot is more of a way for kids to put up a wall against homophobia, and create some type of borders
against male sexuality. Going back to my thesis, these adolescent boys already know the difference
between a gay and straight boy. They can tell when one is being very prominent about his sexuality as
stated above, so they won t call them a fag. These boys are natural, and practice heteronormativity to
prove they are not unnatural or heterosexual. In order to fit in with the rest of their school and to
prevent being called a faggot. In Sandra Bem s essay On Judith Butler she analyzes Judith Butler s

Patriarchy Of Ancient Indian Women
In Ancient India, much like many other ancient civilizations, women were dominated by men. In these
patriarchal societies, women served only to please and obey her husband. Men were viewed as heros,
with intelligence and strength, while their wives value was simply due to their beauty. The Ramayana,
which was written in this patriarchal era, exemplifies these beliefs. It achieves this by blaming females
for the unfortunate events that take place throughout the story. This Hindu story was written around
500 BC by one of the first well known poets, Valmiki. This epic poem is written in the ancient
language of Sanskrit and explores human values. Because of its lasting impact, it provides an example
in the duties of relationships, and how Hindu s must be the most ideal father, brother, king, and wife.
The Ramayana helped further cement the patriarchal society of Ancient India by reinforcing the belief
of weak women by blaming them for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ultimately invites him into her house. Because of this she can do nothing to prevent her kidnapping. It
is Sita s individual decision to allow Ravana into the home that causes her capture. She was not even
able to protect herself from harm. Here, Valmiki, is blaming a woman for the troubles that ensue
throughout. He implies that if not for her lack of intelligence, Rama would have never had to go and

History Is The Most Important Subject Of Education Essay
I believe history is the most important subject of education. It s very interesting how it s found in all
other subjects from arts, to sciences, to religion. Consider history s life in economics. Housing has its
story with its suppliers, sellers, buyers and owners. Let s briefly look at the recent history of this
temperamental market in the United States. If we aren t making progress in this market, how may we
begin to do so? The housing crisis in 2007 08 was characterized by the low classes being unable to
pay for their mortgages. The housing bubble, reaching its greatest size in 2006, prepared this particular
crisis. Decisions made by financial institutions combined with consumers decisions about borrowing
played major roles in the inflation and burst of the bubble. Many decisions were made because of
political influence. Yet, it is as Thomas Sowell stated in his book The Housing Boom and Bust that,
There was no single dramatic event that set this off... A whole series of very questionable decisions
made by many people, in many places, over a period of years, built up the pressures that led to the
sudden collapse of the housing market and of financial institutions that began to fall like dominoes as
a result of investing in securities based on housing prices. Sowell continues, The causes of the housing
boom and bust have been as general as the flaws and shortcomings of human beings and as specific as
the effects of Federal Reserve System policy on interest

Irony In Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron
Kurt Vonnegut crafts the dystopian message of equality within Harrison Bergeron through the use of
ironic and absurd language. Beginning in the first lines of the story, it jumps right in with, The year
was 2081, and everybody was finally equal, (Vonnegut,34). He seems to emphasize on the irony of
equality by drawing attention to the word finally . It s quite peculiar or absurd how things would be if
everyone was equal and that s what Vonnegut proves in multiple points in the story such as, Every
twenty seconds or so, the transmitter would send out some sharp noise to keep people like George
from taking unfair advantages of their brains, (34). This man named George is very intelligent but in

The irony behind it is that if everyone is the same in intelligence and capabilities who can enforce the

wants to overthrow the government. Later on in the passage Hazel states, I don t care if you re not
equal to me for awhile, (36). This is quite absurd and in ways this thought of equality has been
embedded into their brains as if more of a law and customs than wants. This also reflects the irony
which later on in the story their son, Harrison escapes prison and breaks all his handicaps. The
ballerina describes Harrison in a very absurd and ironic way, she states, ... He is a genius and an
athlete, is under handicapped, and should be regarded as extremely dangerous, (37). Mind you
Harrison is only 14, he is in fact almost a prodigy and his intelligence is a threat to the government but

Claiming Victory of the Cold War Essay
Claiming Victory of the Cold War
What has been termed as the long peace by some has proven to be the most intense time period in
world history. A historical rarity, two superpowers fought rigorously across the globe for support, each
carving out their own sphere of influence. The bi polar of international affairs resulted in an arms
buildup between the United States and the Soviet Union; including weapons that exceeded the atomic
bomb, then the most effective and destructive weapon in price and devastation. Yet, to everyone s
surprise, the Cold War abruptly ended in 1990 with the collapse of the Soviet Union under its own
economic weakness, its political conflict, and military farce. A decade later, we ask: Who can claim ...

In order to give such a question its proper justice, we must first explore the world near the end and
directly following the second world war, the landscape, which in fact, birthed the Cold War. The
second World War against Nazi aggression was fought by the Allies on two fronts; The British and
Americans pushing from the West, the Soviets, alone, fighting German troops on the East. By 1945,
without aid from the US or the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union began to gradually push the Nazi
forces back West, as he other Allies pushed from the beaches of Normandy. Soviet troops would
eventually occupy much of Eastern Europe, to the dismay of Roosevelt and Churchill. At Yalta, Stalin
assured free elections in the region following the unconditional surrender of Germany. At Yalta, also,
is where the Soviets, along with the English pledged support towards the United States in the Pacific
Ocean. It was at this point in the war that the United States and the Soviet Union began competition,
and possibly even earlier since the implementation of Lend Lease. Firstly, the United States, without
informing Joseph Stalin, sent two atomic bombs on Japan, one on Hiroshima and the other on
Nagasaki. Stalin s ignorance, perhaps, was a ploy of the United States government, which feared the
presence of Soviet troops in the region, believing that the Soviet Union would want territorial
concessions in Asia as they did in Europe. The Soviets responded at war s end when, while he rest

Stages Of Attachment Of The Infant s Attachment
Stages of attachment. Another of Bowlby s contributions is his proposal that the infant s attachment to
caregiver develops in stages attuned to the infant s cognitive and emotional development. As described
by Broderick Blewitt (2015), a bond emerges from the affect between mother and child in the first two
months as the infant signals their needs by clinging, smiling, and crying. During this stage infants are
not yet attached to anyone and do not discriminate between caregivers. Between their second and
eighth month, infants become increasingly preferential of one caregiver, most often the mother. The
primary indicator of the emerging attachment is whether or not the 7 8 month old infant protests when
separated from their caregiver, and whether they greet the caregivers return with happiness. Soon
thereafter, the infant should begin to develop additional attachments with their fathers, grandparents,
babysitters etc. By 18 months most infants are attached to multiple caregivers (Broderick Blewitt,
2015, p. 135).
Attachment is a system. As mentioned previously, Bowlby also argued that attachment is a system.
Expanding on this, Bowlby proposed that the system serves three purposes; 1) It maintains proximity
between infant and caregiver, nurturing the emotional bond In attachment theory this is known as
proximity maintenance, 2) It provides the potential for on going protection known as a secure base, 3)
It creates a haven for the infant when distressed

teaches us not only lessons that lead us to social/academic achievement, but a lesson about morality,
self respect, and integrity. It s importance are the key components that inspire us to strive and want to

problems that torment our mind are the reasons we learn the morality of self respect. It s not about

Right-To-Bear Arms
Right to Bear Arms
In 2013 states with gun restrictions had more shootings than states without any laws. The right for
U.S. citizens to bear arms is completely beneficial, and without their legality it would cause more
problems than it would solve. Owning a gun gives the owner a feeling of protection, and if your
attacker thinks you may be concealing a weapon they would definitely be less likely to rob you or do
anything in attempt to harm you. Banning guns entirely would have huge implications, which would
not be good for anyone. Without guns our safety would be at risk, and without that feeling of
protection it will be a weight that you constantly carry and will withhold your from true identity and

  • 2. Caesar Augustus Personality Sarah James Instructor Geoffrey Hutcheson History of Western Society I November 26, 2017 Caesar Augustus History is made up of individuals who were just living the life they wanted to live. Their actions ended up making an impact on our world as we know it. At the time they probably had no clue that the actions they put forth in their time would eventually lead up to the world we know today. Their life events may not have been grand, but they were enough to make an impact. Caesar Augustus is one example of a person in history who led a successful life. Born Gaius Octavius on September 23, 63 B.C., in Velletri, Italy. Augustus was a sickly child with few connections. Although, one connection he did have was being the great nephew of Julius Caesar. Augustus was known by three different names throughout his life. From birth to 44 B.C. he was known as Octavius, in 44 B.C. he was adopted and changed his name to Octavian and in 26 B.C. he was named Augustus by the Roman Senate. His father worked as a senator and governor of the Roman Republic, and passed away when Augustus was four years old; Caesar s niece Atai was his mother. In his younger years, his grandmother Julia Ceasaris helped raise him; she was the sister of Julius Caesar. Augustus took on the Roman sign of manhood of wearing the toga at age 16, and began taking on responsibilities through his family connections. At the time Rome was dangerous and engulfed in a civil war, one faction of the war was led by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Northern Mockingbird Characteristics President Thomas Jefferson had a pet mockingbird named Dick ( Northern Facts ). The Northern Mockingbird has many distinctive characteristics. These characteristics include how the mockingbird prefers specific habitats, how their feeding habits is unusual, and how the nesting habits are unique. The mockingbird is very well known for its songs and imitation of other sounds. Mockingbirds are very territorial and defensive; mockingbirds are known to attack to protect their young and nesting sites. The Northern Mockingbird has many distinctive characteristics; such as they prefer specific habitats, their unusual eating habits, and their nesting habits. Mockingbirds prefer a specific habitat that includes hedges, suburban gardens, and orchard margins with an abundance of available fruit. It is especially important that there are hedgerows of multi flora roses ( Birds of Minnesota and Wisconsin ). When the mockingbird goes walking they prefer areas with large open ground with shrub like vegetation such as parks and cultivated land ( All About Birds ). The feeding habits of mockingbirds are unusual for a bird. The mockingbird changes what it eats with the seasons, in the summer they prefer insects such as beetles, moths, earthworms, butterflies, bees, ants, grasshoppers, ... The mockingbird s song is a medley of mimicked phrases, with the phrases repeated 3 times or more; calls include a harsh chair and chewk (Janssen, Tessen, Kennedy 260). Mockingbirds can imitate vocalizations of different birds, musical instruments, and barking dogs. They replicate sounds so accurately that even computerized auditory analysis is unable to figure out the differences differences between the original source and the mockingbird s imitation (Janssen, Tessen, Kennedy 260). The easiest way to first identify a mockingbird is by listening for its song, which mimics numerous different birds at once ( All About ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Race And Manifest Destiny Analysis Reginald Horsman argues in Race and Manifest Destiny: The Origins of American Racial Anglo Saxonism that the idea of racial inferiority gained it s full connotation during the beginning of the 18th century to the mid 19th century. I was then used as a justification for Indigenous genocide, the theft of Mexican land, and slavery. I personally liked how he was able to draw from the origins of this ideology in which he talked about how Anglo Saxonism wasn t always racially motivated. According to Horsman, Anglo Saxonism had to do with mainly English heritage and was implemented within politics and history. Eventually however it became a racially motivated ideology that through the rise of what he calls scientific racialism which was heavily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Inconvenience Of Reading In Charles Foster Kane s... The Inconvenience of Reading Young children are egocentric, unable to understand the world around them from a perspective other than their own. Yet due to neural plasticity, they rapidly develop agglutinative schemas, categories of knowledge that shape how they understand and respond to the world. As time passes, their horizons expand and solidify. Now adults, they read the world as we all do: through contextual mediums and filters. While the relationship between the reader and the world is multiplex, reading is an essential means by which one constructs and derives meaning. Since we read the world through mediums, mass media is one of the most potent institutions. It cultivates societal and cultural norms, serving as an educator and entertainer. The media builds narratives, framing real life events to fulfill their agendas. In Citizen Kane, publishing tycoon Charles Foster Kane capitalizes on the power of modern mass media. He uses the New York Inquirer to lead his yellow journalism crusade. The sensationalist narratives he directs lead the newspaper s readers to view Cuban independence via a war with Spain as a necessity. Kane is not alone. A number of governments frame the news to control how their citizens read the world. Propaganda films and firewalls alike allow the state to manufacture its own narrative in the context of global affairs. In democratic nations alike, yellow journalism tactics have mutated to adapt to today s media channels, social media and traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay On The Role Of Women In Heart Of Darkness In the Heart of Darkness you see a lot about Africa in the 1900s through an imperialistic view considering that s where Conrad is from. There are also a lot of behind the scenes importance nobody really picks up on. Women in the Heart of Darkness played more of a role in the book than people think, and it also portrays the effects on Africa and all of Europe, slowly. In the 1900s, women in advanced areas of the worlds have always been fighting for equal rights. When you take a look at that history, women are either protagonists or in most cases they are just being submissive to their husband or whomever it may be. Heart of Darkness mainly focuses on Men because back then despite Queen Victoria being the most powerful at the time, so you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She seemed uncanny and fateful. This represents the Moirae, the personifications of fate. The Fates have the foresight and can see into every man s fate, so they are pretty much a big deal if you believe in that sort of stuff. Maybe this also doesn t catch your eye whiles you read, Marlow may have had a mentally lasting impact from it based from his initial reaction. Another woman you most definitely could not ignore was Kurtz s African Mistress. She caught the eye of Marlow based off of the vivid description given. He mentions that She walked with measured steps, draped in striped and fringed clothes, treading the earth proudly, carrying her head high, her hair was in the shape of a helmet, she had brass leggings to the knee, brass wire gauntlets, etc, etc, you get the point. This woman isn t just Kurtz s mistress, she carries the personification of Africa herself, dark and mysterious and from Marlow s description of her being gorgeous, embodying all the beauty, mystery and danger within Africa. She also carries some power with her or influence over the natives around the station, and Kurtz himself. This was probably one of the only women who showed clear influence whiles the other women mentioned in this article were more background like the 1900s from a man s perspective would want you to see. At the same time it all comes back to women being more important than you would originally think. We focused on Marlow because it shows how important women impacted his ... • 7. Reflection On Taboos For this sequence, our focus was on taboos. This comes out a little in Taylors New Persona and was my main focus in Inked . I think by including these pieces of work it helps talk about the taboos in society and it helps shed some light on the untold truths. The second assignment was my story told through different lenses; this helped me try and expand on my writing style and adapt to writing in a college setting. For my Taylor Swift assignment, I took very detailed notes on the music video to try and help me get a good idea of exactly what was going on. I then decided to have my main focus on the dark spots on Taylor Swifts career. I decided to focus on these because most of the music video focused in on her past and how it has changed her to be a new person. In the video, there was also reference to taboos which I explained in my writing. I was very confident on this paper and decided not to revise for that reason. In my second assignment, I wanted to try out as many different writing styles as I could. My goal for my first story, My Voice , reflected my true writing style. I wanted to make it somewhat humorous and I feel like I achieved this. Compared to this, it was different when writing the School of Horror story. I had to get into a different mindset when writing it and I feel like I accomplished it very well. The story about my grandparents I used more simplistic language and I accomplished this by using words like I fell or I was nervous . The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Corn Syrup Research Paper Jash Constable Professor Stuckey Composition II 24 April 2017 High Fructose Corn Syrup and Obesity in America When I was growing up my mother would always steer me clear of sugary, unhealthy snacks. So much so that when I finally was able to get a taste of them, I didn t want to stop. After tasting this new sensation my body craved more. The cereals she bought paled in comparison to the bright, colorful flavors of the likes of Fruity Pebbles and Trix. She always bought organic foods and healthy snacks that never tasted quite as good as the sugar blasted name brand snacks. But my mother was adamant that her way was the best way, and so the organic food was the way I lived until I got my first job. With my own money I was now able to buy food ... The panel stated that since the ratio of fructose to glucose had not changed substantially in the United States since the 1960s when HFCS was introduced, the changes in obesity rates were probably not due to HFCS specifically, but rather a greater consumption of calories overall. In 2009 the American Medical Association published a review article on HFCS and concluded it was unlikely that HFCS contributed more to obesity or other health conditions than sucrose, and there was insufficient evidence to suggest warning about or restricting use of HFCS or other fructose containing sweeteners in foods. The review did report that while some studies found direct associations between high intakes of fructose and other sugars and adverse health outcomes, including obesity and the metabolic syndrome, there was insufficient evidence to ban or restrict use of HFCS in the food supply or to require warning labels on products containing ... The Tsar Bomba was first tested in 1961 above Mityushikha Bay; all 50 megatons and 60,000 pounds of it was dropped 13,000 feet in the air and the power from the tsar bomb was 10 times stronger than all the explosives used in WWⅡ combined. Everyone wanted to help for their beliefs and God, and gave gifts, money, and resources. Even the Greeks, who later defeated the Persians, saw Cyrus as a model ruler (textbook 132). • 29. History Is The Most Important Subject Of Education Essay I believe history is the most important subject of education. It s very interesting how it s found in all other subjects from arts, to sciences, to religion. Consider history s life in economics. Housing has its story with its suppliers, sellers, buyers and owners. Let s briefly look at the recent history of this temperamental market in the United States. If we aren t making progress in this market, how may we begin to do so? The housing crisis in 2007 08 was characterized by the low classes being unable to pay for their mortgages. The housing bubble, reaching its greatest size in 2006, prepared this particular crisis. Decisions made by financial institutions combined with consumers decisions about borrowing played major roles in the inflation and burst of the bubble. Many decisions were made because of political influence. Yet, it is as Thomas Sowell stated in his book The Housing Boom and Bust that, There was no single dramatic event that set this off... Sowell continues, The causes of the housing boom and bust have been as general as the flaws and shortcomings of human beings and as specific as the effects of Federal Reserve System policy on interest ... • 30. Irony In Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron Kurt Vonnegut crafts the dystopian message of equality within Harrison Bergeron through the use of ironic and absurd language. Beginning in the first lines of the story, it jumps right in with, The year was 2081, and everybody was finally equal, (Vonnegut,34). He seems to emphasize on the irony of equality by drawing attention to the word finally . It s quite peculiar or absurd how things would be if everyone was equal and that s what Vonnegut proves in multiple points in the story such as, Every twenty seconds or so, the transmitter would send out some sharp noise to keep people like George from taking unfair advantages of their brains, (34). The irony behind it is that if everyone is the same in intelligence and capabilities who can enforce the laws, one person is in fact higher than everyone else and that is the Handicapper General, Diana Moon Glampers. George and Hazel s son, Harrison, was put in jail by Diana herself for his uniqueness and wants to overthrow the government. Later on in the passage Hazel states, I don t care if you re not equal to me for awhile, (36). This is quite absurd and in ways this thought of equality has been embedded into their brains as if more of a law and customs than wants. This also reflects the irony which later on in the story their son, Harrison escapes prison and breaks all his handicaps. The ballerina describes Harrison in a very absurd and ironic way, she states, ... He is a genius and an athlete, is under handicapped, and should be regarded as extremely dangerous, (37). Mind you Harrison is only 14, he is in fact almost a prodigy and his intelligence is a threat to the government but to enforce equality he is considered a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Claiming Victory of the Cold War Essay Claiming Victory of the Cold War What has been termed as the long peace by some has proven to be the most intense time period in world history. A historical rarity, two superpowers fought rigorously across the globe for support, each carving out their own sphere of influence. The bi polar of international affairs resulted in an arms buildup between the United States and the Soviet Union; including weapons that exceeded the atomic bomb, then the most effective and destructive weapon in price and devastation. Yet, to everyone s surprise, the Cold War abruptly ended in 1990 with the collapse of the Soviet Union under its own economic weakness, its political conflict, and military farce. A decade later, we ask: Who can claim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to give such a question its proper justice, we must first explore the world near the end and directly following the second world war, the landscape, which in fact, birthed the Cold War. The second World War against Nazi aggression was fought by the Allies on two fronts; The British and Americans pushing from the West, the Soviets, alone, fighting German troops on the East. By 1945, without aid from the US or the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union began to gradually push the Nazi forces back West, as he other Allies pushed from the beaches of Normandy. Soviet troops would eventually occupy much of Eastern Europe, to the dismay of Roosevelt and Churchill. At Yalta, Stalin assured free elections in the region following the unconditional surrender of Germany. At Yalta, also, is where the Soviets, along with the English pledged support towards the United States in the Pacific Ocean. It was at this point in the war that the United States and the Soviet Union began competition, and possibly even earlier since the implementation of Lend Lease. Firstly, the United States, without informing Joseph Stalin, sent two atomic bombs on Japan, one on Hiroshima and the other on Nagasaki. Stalin s ignorance, perhaps, was a ploy of the United States government, which feared the presence of Soviet troops in the region, believing that the Soviet Union would want territorial concessions in Asia as they did in Europe. The Soviets responded at war s end when, while he rest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Stages Of Attachment Of The Infant s Attachment Stages of attachment. Another of Bowlby s contributions is his proposal that the infant s attachment to caregiver develops in stages attuned to the infant s cognitive and emotional development. As described by Broderick Blewitt (2015), a bond emerges from the affect between mother and child in the first two months as the infant signals their needs by clinging, smiling, and crying. During this stage infants are not yet attached to anyone and do not discriminate between caregivers. Between their second and eighth month, infants become increasingly preferential of one caregiver, most often the mother. The primary indicator of the emerging attachment is whether or not the 7 8 month old infant protests when separated from their caregiver, and whether they greet the caregivers return with happiness. Soon thereafter, the infant should begin to develop additional attachments with their fathers, grandparents, babysitters etc. By 18 months most infants are attached to multiple caregivers (Broderick Blewitt, 2015, p. 135). Attachment is a system. As mentioned previously, Bowlby also argued that attachment is a system. Expanding on this, Bowlby proposed that the system serves three purposes; 1) It maintains proximity between infant and caregiver, nurturing the emotional bond In attachment theory this is known as proximity maintenance, 2) It provides the potential for on going protection known as a secure base, 3) It creates a haven for the infant when distressed ... • 36. Right-To-Bear Arms Right to Bear Arms In 2013 states with gun restrictions had more shootings than states without any laws. The right for U.S. citizens to bear arms is completely beneficial, and without their legality it would cause more problems than it would solve. Owning a gun gives the owner a feeling of protection, and if your attacker thinks you may be concealing a weapon they would definitely be less likely to rob you or do anything in attempt to harm you. Banning guns entirely would have huge implications, which would not be good for anyone.
