The Legacy Of Vincent Van Gogh
A man who suffered his entire life with mental illness and a lack of love and support, Vincent van
Gogh had no easy life. Yet, his works of art not only paint the walls of museums across the world, but
also continue to influence the lives and visions of artists 126 years after his untimely death. Vincent
van Gogh died poor while never selling more than one painting. He died while never reaching his goal
of an artistic community in Arles. Nevertheless, the legacy he leaves behind as one of the greatest
artists in human history is nothing shy of Leonard da Vinci or Michelangelo. However, would it be
appropriate to say Vincent van Gogh had a good life? This question sums up to whether the greatness
of his work and the legacy he left after death overshadow the sufferings he endured while living.
A man who spent 27 years in prison for anti government activity and only at 76 years old was his
vision realized, Nelson Mandela had no easy life. Yet, Mandela s anti apartheid movement in South
Africa not only brought equality and peace to his people, but also made him a Noble Peace laureate
and the first democratically elected President of South Africa. Throughout the world, many people see
him as a hero and an icon, there are also those who take inspiration from his life and aspire to be like
him. In comparison to van Gogh, Mandela appears to have lived a better life reaching his success
while living and leaving an equally great, if not much more impactful, legacy after his death.

Literature Review On Employee Attrition
2. Literature Review 2.1 Attrition meaning Employee attrition is a situation faced by an organization
or employer when the employees leave the organization. People tend to switch the jobs to other
organization where they are satisfied with the job or greater facility in the office. Generally employee
attrition will be very high when there is a pressing need of employees in a particular industry due to
mass retirements or expansion of organization. There will be high attrition rate when there are more
employment opportunities in the market. At one point of time software industry has faced high
attrition rate by employers due to large openings globally in the software industry due to the demand
for software products by all industries. Now a days employee attrition is one of the major issues faced

Zebrafish Are Small Aquatic Organisms Which Are Common
Zebrafish are small aquatic organisms which are common model organisms for genetic and embryonic
studies. Studies have shown that exposing zebrafish to ethanol can result in morphological
deformities. It is hypothesized that exposing zebrafish embryos to EtOH will result in more improper
development as well as a higher amount of mortality compared to zebrafish not treated with EtOH.
Additionally, fish exposed at alcohol at 1 hour old will be more deformed than fish exposed to alcohol
at 24 hours old and fish treated with 1% ethanol will be less deformed than fish treated with 2%
ethanol. In order to study the effects of ethanol, zebrafish embryos which were 72 hours old were
studied using a compound microscope. There was one control ... Show more content on

There are both genetic and environmental factors which contribute to FAS. Effects of FAS vary based
on the time of exposure to and the concentration of ethanol (Carvan, 2004).
Studies have shown that exposing zebrafish embryos to ethanol causes deformities to the embryo s
skull and other parts of its central nervous system, learning and memory problems, and cell death.
Other effects caused by alcohol include the failure of facial organs to develop and malformation of the
body trunk (Carvan, 2004).
The purpose of the experiment was to investigate if exposing zebrafish embryos to ethanol had
negative consequences on the organism s development. In addition to exploring where or not the
treatment had any effects, it was hypothesized that the intensity of any deformities will be higher if the
embryo is exposed to ethanol earlier post fertilization and at a higher concentration.
Methods and Materials
Zebrafish embryos were studied during two separate weeks. They were bred in house and maintained
on a 14:10 hour light/dark schedule in water temperature lower than 28.5 °C. The breeding tank was a
five gallon aquarium. Fertilized eggs were initially placed into Petri dishes and then moved to 500 mL
plastic rearing containers. Ethanol solutions were made from a stock solution of 95% ethyl alcohol
diluted with distilled water. These solutions were added

Cave Allegory
Biographical information: Plato was one of the earliest ancient Greek philosophers who lived from
427 to 347 B.C. He was a student of Socrates, who was also a prominent Greek philosopher at that
time. Socrates had a massive influence on Plato, who called him the most upright man of that day
(The Seventh Letter). Plato adopted his philosophy and dedicated his studies to formation of a noble
character. Born in Athens to a family of aristocrats, Plato attained an exceptional education, most
likely taught by notable educators such as Pythagoras and Parmenides. With the help of these scholars,
Plato began the basis on which he developed a foundation for the study of epistemology and
metaphysics, which connects to his famous cave allegory. Between ... Show more content on

In the cave allegory, a man is bound in a cave, which represents misunderstanding, and facing a wall
his entire life with a fire burning behind him. From this fire, he sees shadows and hears people passing
by, so he believes people are two dimensional beings, this is known as perception. This shows that
knowledge gained through the senses is based on opinion. Only the enlightened ones will break free
from the restraints and turn around to see what the shadows really are. These people are called
philosopher kings. Based on this allegory, these men are not evil, but rather ignorant. They may not
perceive racism as immoral based on several factors such as how and where they were raised and their
experiences, but through philosophical reasoning it can be determined that what they were doing is
wrong. Plato believed in civil disobedience, which is disobeying the law on moral grounds. Carl Lee
Hailey took the law into his own hands because he knew of a previous case similar to his where justice
was not served. Plato would see this as moral because the outcome would not have been just. In
addition, the men in the KKK would use religion as an excuse to carry out unjust

Ontario Student Assistance Program Essay
Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) OSAP, a program designed to benefit Ontario residents
in need; they can apply to receive a Canada Ontario integrated student loan through the Ontario
Student Assistance Program or OSAP. The program was started back in the 1990 s, by the Ontario
government to enable those with lower incomes to receive loans, grants and scholarships which allows
them to have the ability to pay for their post secondary education.
To completely understand the relationship between OSAP and Social Welfare, we must first examine
what social welfare system is. A social welfare system is a program designed to provide assistance to
the needy individuals and families. There are numerous types and amounts of welfare that are
accessible to these individuals and families that vary depending on what country, state or region you
reside in. How do the two topics, OSAP and Social welfare relate? Social welfare is a program that
provides assistance to the needy; OSAP is that program to which assistance is provided. The
difference between the two is that money that comes from OSAP can only be used post secondary
school requirements like tuition fees, books and transportation allowance, social welfare covers other
living essentials like food and a place to live.
The targeted users for this program would be those entering into their post secondary education. The
Ontario Student Assistance Program is open to all Ontario residents; the program was designed and

The Film Angela s Ashes
Angela s Ashes
The lead actor s life in the film Angela s Ashes can be explored through western and cultural theories
of human development.
Although the story is titled Angela s Ashes for me the focal character was Frankie (Francis) McCourt.
His complex and tumultuous life drove the story from beginning to end and although his mother
Angela was very important she was part and parcel of the bigger picture that was Frankie McCourt s
life story (Parker, 1999). For me the story resonates the resilience of young people and their ability
and inability to work their way through life. The amount of sadness, instability and constant
impoverishment would have broken most, but Frankie in his role as eldest brother and son always
seemed to find a way to cope and move forward.
Both Cultural and Western theorists would have had a field day with the reality of Frankie s life, but in
looking at the ideas of two specific theorists to endeavour to make sense of his journey I chose
cultural theorist Mason Durie and western theorist Albert Bandura.
Mason Durie s Te Whare Tapa Wha model looks at the individual as a whole piece that needs four
parts to function; taha wairua (spiritual), taha hinegaro (mental), taha tinana (physical), taha whanau
(family) (Durie, 1998). If one part is having difficulty, one or all of the other three parts will take the
strain in some way in order for the individual to function as normal as possible. In the story Frankie s
life was a melee of all four

Being A Physical Therapist Essay
When I was 12 years old, I broke my elbow while snowboarding. After surgery the doctor said that I
didn t need physical therapy, and that I could rehabilitate myself. In the 8th grade I searched the
internet about how to rehabilitate my elbow, and returned it back to full health. And I found that just a
simple curl with a light weight and doing circles with a light weight are the most effective way to
rehabilitate an elbow. A physical therapist (PT) is defined by The American Physical Therapy
Association (APTA) as the treatment of injury or deformity by physical methods such as massage,
heat treatment, and exercise rather than by drugs. Being a physical therapist is what I want for my

types of physical therapy specialties but some of the more common are in outpatient, pediatric,

principles however, utilize very different techniques. All of them have the same overall goal, but they
differ by the age of their patients and they way they go about treating their patients. An outpatient
physical therapist handles patients with somebody that has an injured shoulder or elbow or somebody
with a long term disability. A pediatric physical therapist works with children with injuries or who
were born with disabilities, for example if a child has a brain injury they would go see the pediatric
physical therapist. A patient for an outpatient neuro physical therapist would be somebody that
recently suffered from a stroke, brain injury, or spinal cord injury. A patient for an inpatient physical
therapist would be somebody that just had surgery that was strong enough to leave the hospital but not
quite strong enough for everyday life. A sports medicine physical therapist is somebody who works

Short Story About The Haunted House
In the year of 1989, there was a street named Elm, in the state of Wyoming. Few chose to live on that
street, and they all knew about the haunted house, up on the hill, on the west side of town, coming off
of Elm. Once, I spent the week with some friends and, Halloween came upon us, while I stayed with
them. I was telling my first grade brother and his friends stories to scare them out of their wits.
Besides, no one wants little kids tagging along with you to go trick or treating, when you could go
with your friends to Haunted Houses, and not ones set up by the town hall. We were just about to pass
the house, not thinking anything of it, when we heard a moan coming from Old Man Reaper s house.
Their eyes grew wide with fear. Mr. G. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

one of my brother s friends shouted. Let s finish eating, I said. Darn! all the boys said in unison. We
all immediately started laughing. We sat around and finished off all of the pizza. We all went back into
the living room, except me. I hung around to make sure my brother had his costume on right and it
looked scary enough. He looked amazingly creepy. I ran to my little brother and jumped onto the
couch beside him. So we all rummaged about in our bags for our flashlights, and when we turned
them on, there was a black cat staring straight at us, with red, glowing eyes. The boys all gasped. We
jumped but didn t make any noise for fear of someone hearing us. We started to go up the stairs but
decided to make sure we all stayed together in case of an emergency. We started to tiptoe through the
house and look into all of the rooms. Suddenly, a door opened behind us, and a tall, toothpick looking
man came out and had a round white face, two dots for a nose, and a thin smile, like the one you
would see on the face of a murderer behind his next victim, waiting to strike.

Tenancy by the Entirety Illinois Memo
WHAT IS THE LAW OF TENANCY BY THE ENTIRETY?
ANSWER: An estate held in tenancy by the entirety is limited to homestead property held by a
husband and wife during coverture.
The Illinois statute authorizing transfer of property into tenancy by the entirety states as follows:
Whenever a devise, conveyance, assignment, or other transfer of property, including a beneficial
interest in a land trust, maintained or intended for maintenance as a homestead by both husband and
wife together during coverture shall be made and the instrument of devise, conveyance, assignment, or

2003), the Appellate Court held that evidence supported a finding that a husband s sole intent in
transferring residence into tenancy by the entirety was to avoid paying debts existing at time of
transfer. In LaSalle Bank, the appellate court affirmed a judgment against the husband in September 3,
1999. Id. at 281. The husband transferred the property from him and his wife in joint tenancy to a
tenancy by the entirety on September 20, 1999. Id.
The Appellate Court reasoned that the Trial Court s finding that the husband transferred the property
to tenancy by the entirety solely to avoid a judgment creditor was not against the manifest weight of
the evidence because 1) the husband owned less than $4,000 of assets at the time he transferred the
property into tenancy by the entirety,
2) the husband didn t make the transfer around 1998 when he was advised to do so by a family
attorney in order to protect the estate and make the transfer easier upon his death, since his assets were
tied up in the business,
3) the husband did not own the residence individually or as a tenant in common with his wife, in
which case there may have been a legitimate reason to transfer the property to tenancy by the entirety
other than to avoid a judgment debt.
3) the husband made the transfer to tenancy by the entirety at a time when to not make such a transfer
would have rendered him insolvent, and
4) the transfer was made within days after the Appellate

Themes In The Sapphires
The Sapphires directed by Wayne Blair represents the theme of war throughout the film with the use
of cinematic techniques and setting. The Sapphires follows four aboriginal girls; Julie, Cynthia, Gail
and Kay on their adventure to Vietnam in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam
War. The film follows the four girls on their journey around Vietnam performing for American troops
while fulfilling their dreams of becoming a famous singing group. Throughout the film, Blair explores
the theme of war through a variety of scenes and techniques. War ruins the lives of many people and
this is demonstrated through the film with the use of cinematic techniques, setting and with the
support of other themes. By exploring the theme of war, Blair is able to help the audience make
connections to the film through the events and setting the character s experience. Wayne Blair depicts
the theme of war with the scene of the girls arriving in Vietnam and travelling to their camp. Through
the use of setting, the devastation of war is displayed with the change of scenery as they travel further
within the country. When the girls and Dave are first travelling through, the setting is bright and
cheerful; they are happy and excited which is shown through a medium long shot of the characters and
their transport. As they travel further into the country, the scenery changes as it becomes gloomy and
is destroyed. Through the tracking medium long shot, the scenery is displayed while

It begins with euphoria. The smokers stress relief and light head, the stimulant user who gets the rush
from their drug, heart pounding feeling like they can do anything. With each use the user is chasing
that first feeling of euphoria building a tolerance, meaning that when the substance of choice is used it
takes a little more and a little more to reach the desired feeling. With almost every substance no high
or euphoria is ever as intense as the first one. Drug Addicts who keep using call it chasing the Dragon
looking for that same feeling as the first high. As tolerance builds withdrawal symptoms begin to
appear withdrawals vary with different types of substances. An alcoholic tends to get the shakes in

body becomes used to these things being taken in, and adapts to it. When these substances are not
used, the body reacts negatively. Withdrawal symptoms can be deadly especially in alcoholics. A
person suffering from substance use disorder and experiencing withdrawal will do things out of
character sometimes lashing out becoming violent, stealing or lying to use again. Once a person
effected by this disorder for whatever reason decides they have had enough they can begin to recover.
Recovery is when the individual uses one of many methods to become abstinent from one or more
substances. Some will switch from one substance to another thinking it will be different more than
not, becoming dependent again. With recovery comes the risk of relapse. A relapse is extremely
common throughout history in those that have decided to recover for whatever reason the person
decides to use again and repeat the cycle, or stops themselves before things get out of hand. (Stages of

Voice Recorder, By Charlie Victor
Charlie Victor Romeo, cockpit voice recorder, is a modern theatrical documentary derived entirely
from the Black Box transcripts of six notable concrete airline emergencies. In this engaging and
intensifying documentary, Charlie Victor Romeo positions the audience into perspective of being
inside a tension filled cockpits of authentic flights in distress, which proposes an intriguing
representation of the sensibility in a mid life crisis and a person s life at jeopardy. The six transcript
samples of previous voice recordings came from various air flights and incidents such as flights
American 1572, American Eagle 4184, Aeroperu 603, USAF Yukla 27, Japan Air 123, and United
232. The film primarily portrays a significant purpose of entertainment and political motives, but also
highlights the issue with aviation safety and the usage of air tragedies to depict it along with the
considerate lack of communication and organization established. Thus, to establish an epidemic,
catastrophic disasters must occur to generate great awareness for the issue, so for a similar disaster to
not transpire again. The play opens with a flight attendant demonstrating the airplane precautions,
safety procedures and reminding passengers to fasten their seat belts and to turn off all cellular
devices. Before each new airline scene played, the film displays the name of the flight, location of
trying to land, and number of passengers and crew members that were on the flight. To present danger

Shingles is a painful disease that is caused by the same virus that causes the chicken pox. The shingles
virus affects about 1 million people per year in the United States alone. Shingles, also known as
herpes zoster, occurs in people who have already had chickenpox when they were younger. Shingles
causes a painful skin rash that usually appears in a band, strip or a small area on one side of the face or
body. Most individuals who develop shingles are older than 50 years or have other medical problems
like cancer because procedures like chemotherapy weaken your immune system. People who are

Herpes zoster goes back a long time but scientists were unable to tell the difference between the
blistering caused by small pox, and shingles until now. Where shingles started was first talked about in
1831, when Richard Bright, a scientist, believed the dorsal root ganglion, or the spinal ganglion was
what carried the disease. In the late 18th century William Heberden found a way to differentiate
between shingles and small pox, and then in the late 19th century shingles was differentiated from
another disease called erysipelas. In the beginning of the 20th century it was the first time scientists
realized that the same virus was causing chickenpox and shingles. Shingles was thought to be not
dangerous in the 1940s and harmful side effects were thought to be scarce. When 1942 hit scientists
started to recognize that when adults got shingles it was more dangerous than when a child had it, and
the harmful effects of shingles increased as you got older. More studies in the 1950s on people with
the shingles virus showed that scientists were wrong about the virus being harmless, and so they
started looking for ways to prevent the virus. In 1965 Dr. Hope Simpson was first to suggest that
contact with children who had chicken pox would boost the cells immunity to help postpone or
suppress shingles. An experimental drug called Zostavax was created to fight against shingles in 2005.
The drug was later FDA approved in 2006, it is too early to tell if the drug works,

story of Bartholomew the Apostle. However, the magician Mandrake takes his name from a

but the most prominent are Nathaniel the magician, Kitty Jones the commoner, and the djinn
Bartimaeus. Bartimaeus is one of the most important characters in the series, and is a five millennia

powers, he has a hilarious, wry, and cheeky side that brings out the nature of spirits in his world. Kitty

people opposed to Britain being ruled by the magical cabal. Similar to many in the resistance, she can

In the subject of field for art history Robert pointed out the art is found in all categories except for the

America. He also calls forth the Art Criticism and Theory which is to be the only category to be
critical and theoretical. Criticism in art is what demonstrates the discipline in art history for rejection
or approval of the work. According to Robert s argument he also claims that the library system is for

The order of a single book is a function of its written discourse, but the order of a group of books is
greater than the sum of their texts. (The Map of Art History, 30). By his statement he meant that books
are disciplinary and hold so much order and control over society because of the knowledge it provides

This whole wind up is an inelastic process where kinetic energy is lost in the form of the ball leaving
the hand. So we have this transfer of energy from the body to the ball. The ball leaves the hand on a 90
mph fastball at 97 mph. There is definitely a transfer of energy as the ball is in motion.
Newton s third law states; for every action on an object there will always be an equal and opposite
force exerted by that object. This beckons the question of what forces act against a ball? There are 3
forces acting upon a ball once it is released; velocity, drag, and gravity all act upon the ball. Here s
how, velocity is the force pushing it forward it is generated by the person throwing the ball, drag is the
air resistance which pushes back against the velocity, and gravity which is constant and pushes the ball
down against the upward velocity. Those forces for sure are slowing the pitch, yet it is not an equal
force of the energy but into a pitch. When a bat connects with a ball there is a collision and a transfer
of energy. When the ball makes it to the catcher then there is another collision and energy is
conserved. In a nutshell here is the transfer of energy, a pitcher puts a force on a baseball, the baseball
travels through the air with air resistance, gravity, and velocity acting upon the ball, when the ball
travels 60 it will transfer its energy completely by either being hit or being caught by the

Bookkeeping and Record Keeping Basics
Bookkeeping and Record Keeping Basics
Adapted from content excerpted from the American Express® OPEN Small Business Network
Proper bookkeeping is important to sustaining and expanding a business. Without it, you run the risk
of hitting cash flow crunches, wasting money, and missing out on opportunities to expand. When you
are devising or revising your bookkeeping routine, remember that the purpose of bookkeeping is to
help you manage your business and to enable tax agencies to evaluate your business activity. As long
as your bookkeeping achieves both of these objectives, it can and should be as simple as possible.
The general guidelines here outline what you must take care of and provide ideas for how to keep your

Keep a log of each category of expense, for tax purposes and write yourself a check for the total. Write
cash reimbursable in your check register to differentiate this from taxable income. Alternatively, you
can keep a petty cash record by writing a check to petty cash and keeping a log of each expense paid
out of petty cash.
Inventory Records
Keeping on top of your inventory records will enable you to prevent pilferage, keep inventory
holdings to a minimum, and track buying trends, among other things.
If you sell a large number of small ticket items for example, as in a stationary store you might want to
use a computer system to track inventory or tie your computer system into your sales by having a POS
(point of sale) inventory system. If you sell larger ticket items you may be able to do it yourself on
paper.
The crucial inventory information you need to capture is: date purchased, stock number of item
purchased, purchase price, date sold, and sale price.
Accounts Receivable
If your products or services are paid for at time of delivery, you will not need an accounts receivable
tracking system. However, if you provide services or products for which people pay you at a later
date, your accounts receivable records keep track of what is owed to you. You can monitor accounts
receivable by holding on to a copy of all invoices sent out or by keeping an accounts receivable
record. Either way, the information you need to capture includes: invoice date,

Marvel Hero
The past decade has brought blockbuster movies and crazy stories from the giant franchise that is
Marvel. Most people around the world have heard of the company, but where did their company
originate, and who is responsible for their massive success? Marvel Comics, more commonly known
to the public as Marvel, originates in New York City, New York. Here, great stories, ideologies, and
characters are born. Characters that may seem impossible to relate become easily identifiable to
readers new and old since 1944. New York, located in the northeastern part of the United States and

Lee was in the lowest point of his comic book career and was about to change careers. He decided to
give it one last go by writing two different superhero stories: The Fantastic Four and The Amazing
Spider Man. These two stories defied the superhero graphic at the time with the Fantastic Four being a
family turned superhero team and Spider Man being the first teen superhero that was not a sidekick.
Spider Man put a grand effect on people as it put a realistic high school student struggling with the
loss of his parental figure. The origin of Spider Man is shown in Amazing Fantasy #15. Peter Parker
was a hard working honor student constantly rejected being seen as a nerd. One day, however, Peter is
bitten by a radioactive spider that somehow grants Peter the proportionate speed, strength and agility
of a spider (Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider Man). After finding these powers, Peter later
exploits them for himself as a wrestler winning money nightly. One night, a thief is running from a
cop with Peter in front of him. Instead of stopping the thief, Peter arrogantly lets the thief go and tells
the cop, Sorry, pal! That s your job!... From now on I just look out for number one that means me!
(Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider Man). Peter would later find out that the same thief he had
let escape would kill his Uncle Ben. After he hands the thief to the police as Spider Man, he tells
himself, If only I had stopped when I could have! But I didn t and now Uncle Ben is dead (Marvel
Masterworks: The Amazing Spider Man). In the story, Parker is an intelligent, socially awkward, and
often bullied young teenager who has parental figures in his life. This allowed him to be more
relatable and more interesting to readers who were accustomed with characters like Superman who is
an alien on Earth, Wonder Woman who is a goddess, and Batman who is a

Essay On Ethnicity And Multiculturalism
The meaning of music and its value has evolved over the years of its birth. In the present world, music
is now interpreted and taken as one can imagine it. The idea and worth of music to an individual or
group can mean anything to them. There is no consistent meaning of music because anyone can create
their own meaning rather than following another s. Ethnicity on the other hand has a solid definition.
From the Oxford Concise Dictionary of Sociology, Ethnicity defines individuals who consider

I felt like there was no diversity when it came to the repertoire that the ensembles performed. I bring
this up because I grew up in an environment that is filled to the brim with different cultures and
backgrounds, but the music that the children learn only represents one group. I feel like the town s
music program could have been so much more but it fell stuck to traditions. By doing this, children
immediately become uninterested in music and dislike taking music classes and only a handful of
children stay within the program. Their only reason to take the class is to fill the requirement then
afterwards never take a music class again. In the end, the students have more trouble finding their own
identity, ethnically and musically. They had to explore the music for themselves and find what they
like.
I believe it is important to showcase all of the distinct genres and styles of music in a music classroom
because they are all important to whoever is listening and it helps show the students that they should
be proud of what they identify themselves as. It is disappointing to see such a great and well funded
music program such as South Brunswick Township to fall under traditions and norms, and not further
explore other music that can help students find themselves. It is vital to show children different

Surrounded By Happiness Rhetorical Analysis
Surrounded By Happiness My exhibit is called Surrounded by Happiness, to show how happiness can
depend on our surroundings. Although happiness can come from a color, location, and doing the
things we love; the one thing that makes happiness almost universal is being surrounded by people
and things who can help bring out the happiness within us. When we are accompanied by someone
who is cheerful and has positive energy, it rubs off and in turn, makes the people surrounding them
happy too. It is simple to find happiness and sometimes the littlest things can bring happiness to us
and often times it is taken for granted in our daily lives. The theme of this exhibit is to show how
people can contribute to daily happiness even when it s just from their attitude, energy, and presence.
Also, to show how it is important to know who and what we surround ourselves with and how they
can affect us. When we are surrounded by people that are positive, cheerful, and fun; it affects
everyone around us. In The Cordoba Fair, there are two women performing an act that is cheerful, full
of energy, and are having fun doing what they love. This makes the audience filled with joy and
everyone is seen with a smile on their face. The shades of blue and red on their clothing add to the
cheerful mood of the painting. This illustrates the theme of happiness by showing how being

The Equal Protection Clause Of The Fourteenth Amendment
The equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution was at first created to
protect against racial discrimination, but the Supreme Court later expanded the clause to also
providing equal treatment amongst different races. The clause says, No state shall...deny to any person
within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws (U.S. Constitution. Art./Amend. XIV, Sec. 1.) A
person could not be discriminated upon solely because of his or her race and if the law treated a group
of people differently, then a valid reason for the discrepancy of different treatment must exist. Racial
minorities, but mainly women, have historically been subjected and made vulnerable to harsh
restrictions on activities such as voting, attending college, and working as lawyers. These restrictions,
based on stereotypes overlooked the actual capability and potential of each individual woman. For
many cases dealing with discrimination of women, the Court looked to another important element of
equal protection, which stated that unfair treatment couldn t be based on immutable distinctions, such
as race and gender, because those fixed distinctions are uncontrollable and unrelated to ability. In the
case of Frontiero v. Richardson, 411 U.S. 677 (1973), the Supreme Court was just one vote short of
adopting gender as a suspect classification. In United States v. Virginia, 518 U.S. 515 (1996), women

Antigone And The Adjustment Bureau Summary
Faith Morrow

Pre AP;5th hour
20 December, 2017
Compare and Contrast Essay Both Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau have similarities and
differences, when analyzing one government and democracy about the both of them! There are many
ways to compare and contrast these two pieces! Although Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau are
completely different, there are many similarities that you can draw from the both of them. Not only
can you relate both of theses pieces together using one motif, you can also relate the same motif to the
real world and to the choices that you make! In Antigone, government and democracy played a huge
role throughout the story! Creon is one that really relates to this motif! In the city of Thebes, the
government was a form of democratic democracy. At the time, Creon was king! Throughout the story,
Creon ruled as a dictator! His everyday choices depended on his governmentative standing! He used
his power over the people in the city when making choices that he thought would be beneficial. He
only listened to himself and he believed that every choice he made was right! Many different
characters in the story tried to offer advice to Creon, when they realized that he was making irrational
decisions, but he chose to ignore them and he continued along his own path. For example,
Tiresias(who is a seer, and knows what s going to happen in the future) tried to warn Creon about
what would happen at the rate Creon was going at! Tiresias tried to offer Creon advice and he told
Creon that he really should take his advice, but Creon took this as an insult. Whenever someone told
Creon what to do, he took it as an insult and he wouldn t listen to anyone, but himself. In the
Adjustment Bureau, government and democracy arises right when the movie begins and is continued
throughout the film. At the beginning of the movie, David was running for Congress! Due to this, he
had to change his lifestyles and he had to be more cautious about the choices that he made. For
example, at the beginning of the movie David s support system was weakened, because he got into a
bar fight that went viral! Due to the fact that he worked for the government, he had very little privacy,
which caused this

Three Day Relationship Between Romeo And Juliet
Love Story or Barely Legal Three Day Relationship? The defintion of love is to need or require;

Juliet, by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet loved one another so much, they literally died for
that love. However, they were not the only ones to blame for this unfortunate event. Benvolio, Lady
Capulet, and the Capulet and Montague families were also to blame. Benvolio brought Romeo to the
party where he met Juliet, Lady Capulet kept pressuring Juliet to marry Paris, and the Capulet and
Montague families kept tearing Romeo and Juliet apart. Benvolio played a very big role in the death
of them both because he is responsible for the two of them meeting. In the play, Benvolio tells Romeo

Later on, however, Lady Capulet says that Juliet is marrying Paris on a Thursday morning. LADY

Effects Of Overpopulation
With the fast paced and growing world that we live in today, we are overpopulating, over consuming
and a significant amount of our resources are being used up. Malthusian focuses on bringing
importance to the issue of overpopulation and how it strains many aspects of our lives such as the
environment, and economy. Therefore, Thomas Robert Malthus theory of overpopulation is a prime
example of the dangers overpopulation can have on our planet if there are no measures taken to ensure
that there will be a sustainable future. For instance, we are going through a crisis in many parts of the
world where overpopulation is an issue and is resulting in poverty. Additionally, many countries are
suffering economically due to the very limited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also present in Kenya since AIDS and HIV are a critical issue in the country and it doesn t help
when families are having a lot of children that they cannot provide for. Northern India is an example
needs help controlling their population since the negative aspects are going to continue to increase
overtime if it continues to grow at the current rates. China and the one child policy is an example of
how population control helped keep the country more sustainable. It s crucial to keep in mind that the
more people that there are, the more resources are needed and is very difficult to create a sustainable
society when the members are having many children that they cannot provide for.
Furthermore, there are inconsistent population to food growth in many countries and this can be very
damaging to the economy. For instance, there has been a rapid growing population in India but
agricultural production has slowed down. Which means that there is a scramble for increasingly scarce
resources. This does not only affect the economy exports but it also negatively impacts the citizen of
the country since it can get more expensive for large families to provide food for their children. This is
very similar to Thomas Robert Malthus theory of overpopulation since he stated that there would be a
gap between population and food sources since population would significantly outweigh food sources.
In addition to that, many developing

Controversy Of Shakespeare
DeVere or Shakespeare?
Abstract: The debate over the legitimacy of the authorship of Shakespearean works has been disputed
for centuries. While many scholars have held beliefs that Shakespeare s works have been written by
figures such as Christopher Marlowe, Francis Bacon, William Stanley, and others, the most heated
debate today is between William Shakespeare and Edward DeVere, the Earl of Oxford. Each side of
this debate has many followers, the Stratfordians, or those who claim Shakespeare to be the true
author, and the Oxfordians who believe that true credit should go to DeVere. My paper, far from being
a complete analysis of the possibilities of Shakespearean authorship, attempts to summarize and
rationalize the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the ideas of the true identity of Shakespeare have differed over the years in an almost trend like
fashion, a very popular idea has surfaced over the last century. The most prolific debate today is
between the Stratfordians, or those who claim Shakespeare to be the true author, and the Oxfordians,
those who claim Edward DeVere, Earl of Oxford, to be the true author.
The first question to ask in such a circumstance is why doubt exists. For instance, no scholars question
the works of writers and philosophers such as Montisqueu, Hobbes, or Locke. Why then, is there any
question as to who wrote Shakespeare? It would seem to most people that the name on the plays
should logically be the name of the author. Stratfordians claim exactly this fact as one of their
strongest arguments. The only problem with this seemingly simplistic argument lies in the spelling
differences between the man named Will Shakespere and the name written on the plays, William
Shakespeare (Whalen 8). In fact, the records of (Shakespere s) lifetime almost always spelled his
name Shakespere while the names on the plays were always spelled Shakespeare, about half the time
with a hyphen which generally denoted a made up name or pseudonym (Whalen 8). Such a slight
difference may seem insignificant, but for those who doubt authorship, this is a way of questioning the
very basis of Stratfordian claims that authorship is inarguable, and introducing the possibility of

A Relationship Between Project Team Integration And The...
Sustainable construction When it comes to building assessment methods, this theme led to many and
different forms of studies on the relationship between the project team integration and the sustainable
construction. Comparing dominant construction strategies with sustainable construction, Lutzkendorf
Lorenz (2011) argue that, on one hand, sustainable construction requires greater disciplinary
specialization and greater functional dependence between components. On the other hand, traditional
construction, which in turn depends on greater integration between project team members (Robichaud
Anantatmula, 2011; Rohracher, 2001). There are also research based on empirically point of view, a
number of scholars have tried to test such claims by developing quantitative indices for different
dimensions of project team integration and sustainable construction and by examining the statistical
relation between them. For example, Mollaoglu Korkmaz, Swarup, James Whitcomb Riley (2013)
examined the relation between project delivery methods, project team integration and LEED building
scores in 12 case studies in the United States. They operationalized integration by the early
collaboration of the project s participants, the chemistry among participants and the timing and
method of communication (Mollaoglu Korkmaz, Swarup, Riley, 2013). The research found the
expected relation between project team integration and procurement method (with American

The Mental Health System Is The Best Interest Of The...
Our society is full of people with controversial perspectives on countless aspects of life. The mental
health system has become a subject that has questioned whether our society has the best interest of the
mentally ill in mind. It is because of issues like the laid back approach to prescribing treatment to
patients and the lack of coverage for mental health expenses that led to the corrupting of the system.
Patients would undoubtedly benefit from a more structured process with prices that took a families
financial situation into account. The mental health system in its current state and the rights that
patients with a mental illness possess would both benefit from rapid rebuilding. People diagnosed with
a mental illness are being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By law, patients should be familiar with these concepts before experiencing any assistance with their
mental illness. Even though treatment is readily available, the 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and
Health claims that 60% of mentally ill adults went untreated. (Szabo 1) If legally treatment was
voluntary during 2012 then why did over half of those that needed treatment not receive it? A majority
of the mentally ill went without care because although treatment is there, it is not educated as an
obligation towards being cured. Laws in regards to the mentally ill are allowing them to try to live a
life equal to someone without a mental illness. While this is ideal, this attempt leads to patients
ignoring the need for treatment, a process that if followed through will limit their restrictions, and
exposing them to situations that will exacerbate the condition. In society, today, the mentally ill are
stereotyped as a group of people who are incapable of performing actions in the same way that
someone without a mental illness can. This leads to barriers for the mentally ill such as limited access
to a proper education and not being able to apply for certain jobs. There is not a single solution that
can completely eradicate stereotypes towards the mentally ill; however, the sooner the system is
restructured to a point that treatment is seen as the real cure, the quicker society s perspective of the

Juvenile Criminals
I believe juveniles with a major criminal background, such as murder should be sued as adults and
faced life in prison if it s necessary. Being a minor should not be an excuse to pay for the felonies
someone commits. Although many opponents think that a minor shouldn t be charged as an adult,
arguing that juveniles don t know what they doing when they are doing something illegal because a
brain of a teen is not fully develop until they are 18 years old. But is it true? Who proved that? A
criminal not only affects his victim, but also third persons for example the victim s family and
sometimes even the criminal s family. Back in 2001 a young man was murdered by another teen. They
were good friends and neighbors. When the 17 ½ year old found ... Show more content on

They are less mature, more vulnerable, cannot escape from dangerous environments, and their
characters are still in formation. However, brain imaging studies reveal that the regions of the
adolescent brain responsible for controlling thoughts, actions, and emotions are not fully developed.
Young people...cannot be held to the same standards when they commit terrible wrongs (Garinger) in
the other hand Jennifer Jenkins argues that the development of the brain of a teen has nothing to do
with what they do because even though their brain might still in the process of developing a juvenile
still understands what s right and what s wrong. Advocates often repeat, but truly misunderstand brain
research on this issue. The actual science does not, according to experts such as Professor Stephen
Morse, and others, in any way negate criminal culpability. Also, she stays that many young offenders
are criminals in the making and that they don t necessarily are special cases for example teens with
traumatic childhood. Jenkins says that the majority of young offenders is spoiled, privilege teens that
whenever they face problems their parents would fix it. In fact, that is why they became public
enemies because they are hiding behind their

The Membrane And Its Effects On Human Development
It is generally accepted that resting CaMKIIβ bundles and stabilizes actin cytoskeleton. Transient
activation of CaMKIIβ relaxes cytoskeleton, promotes actin polymerization and CaMKIIβ
recruitment, and favors cytoskeleton growth. This model has been shown in both synaptogenesis
(Okamoto et al., 2007) and OL maturation (Waggener et al., 2013). Based on this theory, we proposed
that prolonged CaMKIIβ activation by NMDA R mediated Ca2+ influx leads to destabilization of
actin cytoskeleton and membrane disintegration in mature OLs. Although our experiments
unambiguously showed that NMDA R activation results in CaMKIIβ activation, direct proof that links
CaMKIIβ activation and membrane reduction are lacking. All the existing CaMKIIβ inhibitors ...

As mentioned in chapter 5, a repeated measure experiment using OLs from CaMKIIβA303R mice will
be the best way to investigate this question. The CaMKIIβA303R mutant retains its ability to bundle F
actin, but loses its Ca2+/CaM binding capacity. Based on our proposed model, Tat induced [Ca2+]i
increase should have no effect on OL membrane area since Ca2+/CaM can not bind and activate
CaMKIIβA303R, and promotes its release from actin cytoskeleton.
Most of our experiments are done in mice cells. Since HIV is a human disease, we used an hBrnAgg
model to try to verify our finding in human cells. We thought that the hBrnAgg model serves our
experiments best because 1) it mimics the in vivo environment with the presence of all major CNS cell
types, 2) myelination has been observed in the model by other investigators, thus fulfill the needs of
studying effect of HIV/Tat on both OLs and myelin, and 3) the hBrnAgg model can be maintained for
a long period of time (up to 60 days), made it a good model to study long term effect of HIV/Tat.
Our immunostaining experiments suggested that there are far less OLs in the aggregates than we
expected. Under EM, plenty of synaptic structures, both symmetric and asymmetric, were observed in
the hBrnAgg. However, cells with typical mature OL characteristics, including dark cytoplasm and
nucleus, elongated, thin strands of endoplasmic reticulum; numerous mitochondria, and stacks of
Golgi apparatus, were rarely

call the conceptual needs. I mean that the conceptualization should not be founded on a theory of the

know the historical conditions which motivate our conceptualization. We need a historical awareness
of our present circumstance. The second thing to check is the type of reality with which we are
dealing. A writer in a well known French newspaper once expressed his surprise: Why is the notion of

During this experiment the His tagged protein RNase H was purified using affinity chromatography.
The source of over expressed His tagged RNase H used was 5.0 mL of E. coli lysate. The experiment
was performed in partners using different materials in order to prepare the needed three buffers to an
approximate pH value of 7.9. Once the three buffers were ready a minicolumn was packed with 0.5
mL of Ni NTA agarose and then different solutions were used to wash the column, starting with DI
water, followed by the loading buffer, then the E.coli lysate, the washing buffer, and finally the eluting

They are key constituents of all biological systems, and perform a great variety of functional and
structural roles. Proteins play a crucial role in almost all biological processes, like signal transmission,
catalysis, and structural support. This important range of functions comes from the existence of
thousands of proteins, which are each folded into a characteristics three dimensional structure, the
same structure that allows it to interact with one or perhaps more molecules. A lot of the functional
and structural studies of proteins are conducted with purified preparations of proteins. In general the
purification methods of proteins aim to exploit the differences in their different properties such as,
solubility, size, charge, and resin binding specificity, all with the purpose to enrich the solution for the

The Causes And Consequences Of The Great Famine
Food is the most colorful part of the day. With its gastronomic range, the possibilities are endless.
Everyone in the world depends on food, whether to experience that burst of flavor in the mouth or to
survive. But when there is a shortage of food, what is to blame? The people who eat and cultivate it?
Or factors outside their control? The Great Famine is an example of this question.
The Great Famine was caused by blight that accidently came from America and affected the potatoes
growing in Ireland and in turn, affected the Irish. This was especially hard on the Irish because in
1845, the potato was their main source of food. They had an average of 14 spuds a day so they relied
heavily on them. Potatoes only lasted two to three months so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The farmers were the first to emigrate via steam boats to England and Scotland. They were the
wealthier people but as time passed, the people emigrating became poorer. 75% were laborers and
servants. These kinds of people found it hard to pay for the ride over to America. But it didn t matter.
1 ½ million left Ireland in 1847 1851 for NY. Economic expansion in the US with industrial
depression in Ireland increased migration. The fees to cross the Atlantic Ocean were high and the
Parliament regulated it. Adult was single soul and children under 12 were half soul. It was hard to tell
who was what age because of lack of passports. At first when they left, they were jubilant. But there
were too many on the ships and it was like hell on sea. The voyage took about six weeks or three
months. There were too few doctors for medical inspection so many that were on the ships were sick.
The sick were sent to St. John as a dumping ground yet they all couldn t be regulated and a plethora
died on the ships. Many were so used to death and inhumane conditions at sea that they didn t care if
they were sleeping next to a corpse. They were without fear or emotion (BBC, 1995). When people
left, it was a chain migration (Mulrooney, pg. 21). They emigrated in continuous succession groups of
two or more and usually had a job or relative waiting. The movement depended on the placement of

Everything Bad Is Good For You By Steven Johnson
In Everything Bad Is Good For You, Steven Johnson discusses why and how he believes today s
popular culture is actually making us smarter, rather than dumbing us down. Johnson has his book
split into two different parts, focusing mainly on the first part of his book, he talks about the ways
people consume media and how it has become more complex and challenging over the years. The title
headings for each sub chapters are Video Games, Television, Internet, and Movies. Within each
subchapter he uses a vast number of examples from each section to support his argument. The biggest
part the first chapter is dedicated to video games. Johnston suggests that when video games were first
released that people thought they made us dumber and wasted our mind s skills. He uses the example
about how if video games had arrived before books, we would be more hesitant towards books. We
would be looking at the negative aspects of book reading and how they are isolating, under stimulating
and do not engage enough. Stating that we use books to test cognitive benefits attention, memory,
focus and following threads, Johnston goes into a detail about how video games uses all these skills
and more. He uses examples from Tetris, Pac Man, SimCity200 and even The Legend of Zelda.
Continuing his argument that video games engage us more that any other media our there at the
moment, he acknowledges how to reward system and the desire to explore in video games keep us
engaged. No other form of

  • 2. The Legacy Of Vincent Van Gogh A man who suffered his entire life with mental illness and a lack of love and support, Vincent van Gogh had no easy life. Yet, his works of art not only paint the walls of museums across the world, but also continue to influence the lives and visions of artists 126 years after his untimely death. Vincent van Gogh died poor while never selling more than one painting. He died while never reaching his goal of an artistic community in Arles. Nevertheless, the legacy he leaves behind as one of the greatest artists in human history is nothing shy of Leonard da Vinci or Michelangelo. However, would it be appropriate to say Vincent van Gogh had a good life? This question sums up to whether the greatness of his work and the legacy he left after death overshadow the sufferings he endured while living. A man who spent 27 years in prison for anti government activity and only at 76 years old was his vision realized, Nelson Mandela had no easy life. Yet, Mandela s anti apartheid movement in South Africa not only brought equality and peace to his people, but also made him a Noble Peace laureate and the first democratically elected President of South Africa. Throughout the world, many people see him as a hero and an icon, there are also those who take inspiration from his life and aspire to be like him. In comparison to van Gogh, Mandela appears to have lived a better life reaching his success while living and leaving an equally great, if not much more impactful, legacy after his death. ... • 4. Zebrafish Are Small Aquatic Organisms Which Are Common Zebrafish are small aquatic organisms which are common model organisms for genetic and embryonic studies. Studies have shown that exposing zebrafish to ethanol can result in morphological deformities. It is hypothesized that exposing zebrafish embryos to EtOH will result in more improper development as well as a higher amount of mortality compared to zebrafish not treated with EtOH. Additionally, fish exposed at alcohol at 1 hour old will be more deformed than fish exposed to alcohol at 24 hours old and fish treated with 1% ethanol will be less deformed than fish treated with 2% ethanol. In order to study the effects of ethanol, zebrafish embryos which were 72 hours old were studied using a compound microscope. There was one control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are both genetic and environmental factors which contribute to FAS. Effects of FAS vary based on the time of exposure to and the concentration of ethanol (Carvan, 2004). Studies have shown that exposing zebrafish embryos to ethanol causes deformities to the embryo s skull and other parts of its central nervous system, learning and memory problems, and cell death. Other effects caused by alcohol include the failure of facial organs to develop and malformation of the body trunk (Carvan, 2004). The purpose of the experiment was to investigate if exposing zebrafish embryos to ethanol had negative consequences on the organism s development. In addition to exploring where or not the treatment had any effects, it was hypothesized that the intensity of any deformities will be higher if the embryo is exposed to ethanol earlier post fertilization and at a higher concentration. Methods and Materials Zebrafish embryos were studied during two separate weeks. They were bred in house and maintained on a 14:10 hour light/dark schedule in water temperature lower than 28.5 °C. The breeding tank was a five gallon aquarium. Fertilized eggs were initially placed into Petri dishes and then moved to 500 mL plastic rearing containers. Ethanol solutions were made from a stock solution of 95% ethyl alcohol diluted with distilled water. These solutions were added ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cave Allegory Biographical information: Plato was one of the earliest ancient Greek philosophers who lived from 427 to 347 B.C. He was a student of Socrates, who was also a prominent Greek philosopher at that time. Socrates had a massive influence on Plato, who called him the most upright man of that day (The Seventh Letter). Plato adopted his philosophy and dedicated his studies to formation of a noble character. Born in Athens to a family of aristocrats, Plato attained an exceptional education, most likely taught by notable educators such as Pythagoras and Parmenides. With the help of these scholars, Plato began the basis on which he developed a foundation for the study of epistemology and metaphysics, which connects to his famous cave allegory. Between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the cave allegory, a man is bound in a cave, which represents misunderstanding, and facing a wall his entire life with a fire burning behind him. From this fire, he sees shadows and hears people passing by, so he believes people are two dimensional beings, this is known as perception. This shows that knowledge gained through the senses is based on opinion. Only the enlightened ones will break free from the restraints and turn around to see what the shadows really are. These people are called philosopher kings. Based on this allegory, these men are not evil, but rather ignorant. They may not perceive racism as immoral based on several factors such as how and where they were raised and their experiences, but through philosophical reasoning it can be determined that what they were doing is wrong. Plato believed in civil disobedience, which is disobeying the law on moral grounds. Carl Lee Hailey took the law into his own hands because he knew of a previous case similar to his where justice was not served. Plato would see this as moral because the outcome would not have been just. In addition, the men in the KKK would use religion as an excuse to carry out unjust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ontario Student Assistance Program Essay Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) OSAP, a program designed to benefit Ontario residents in need; they can apply to receive a Canada Ontario integrated student loan through the Ontario Student Assistance Program or OSAP. The program was started back in the 1990 s, by the Ontario government to enable those with lower incomes to receive loans, grants and scholarships which allows them to have the ability to pay for their post secondary education. To completely understand the relationship between OSAP and Social Welfare, we must first examine what social welfare system is. A social welfare system is a program designed to provide assistance to the needy individuals and families. There are numerous types and amounts of welfare that are accessible to these individuals and families that vary depending on what country, state or region you reside in. How do the two topics, OSAP and Social welfare relate? Social welfare is a program that provides assistance to the needy; OSAP is that program to which assistance is provided. The difference between the two is that money that comes from OSAP can only be used post secondary school requirements like tuition fees, books and transportation allowance, social welfare covers other living essentials like food and a place to live. The targeted users for this program would be those entering into their post secondary education. • 7. The Film Angela s Ashes Angela s Ashes The lead actor s life in the film Angela s Ashes can be explored through western and cultural theories of human development. Although the story is titled Angela s Ashes for me the focal character was Frankie (Francis) McCourt. His complex and tumultuous life drove the story from beginning to end and although his mother Angela was very important she was part and parcel of the bigger picture that was Frankie McCourt s life story (Parker, 1999). For me the story resonates the resilience of young people and their ability and inability to work their way through life. The amount of sadness, instability and constant impoverishment would have broken most, but Frankie in his role as eldest brother and son always seemed to find a way to cope and move forward. Both Cultural and Western theorists would have had a field day with the reality of Frankie s life, but in looking at the ideas of two specific theorists to endeavour to make sense of his journey I chose cultural theorist Mason Durie and western theorist Albert Bandura. Mason Durie s Te Whare Tapa Wha model looks at the individual as a whole piece that needs four parts to function; taha wairua (spiritual), taha hinegaro (mental), taha tinana (physical), taha whanau (family) (Durie, 1998). If one part is having difficulty, one or all of the other three parts will take the strain in some way in order for the individual to function as normal as possible. In the story Frankie s life was a melee of all four ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After surgery the doctor said that I didn t need physical therapy, and that I could rehabilitate myself. In the 8th grade I searched the internet about how to rehabilitate my elbow, and returned it back to full health. And I found that just a simple curl with a light weight and doing circles with a light weight are the most effective way to rehabilitate an elbow. A physical therapist (PT) is defined by The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as the treatment of injury or deformity by physical methods such as massage, heat treatment, and exercise rather than by drugs. An outpatient physical therapist handles patients with somebody that has an injured shoulder or elbow or somebody with a long term disability. A pediatric physical therapist works with children with injuries or who were born with disabilities, for example if a child has a brain injury they would go see the pediatric physical therapist. • 9. Short Story About The Haunted House In the year of 1989, there was a street named Elm, in the state of Wyoming. Few chose to live on that street, and they all knew about the haunted house, up on the hill, on the west side of town, coming off of Elm. Once, I spent the week with some friends and, Halloween came upon us, while I stayed with them. I was telling my first grade brother and his friends stories to scare them out of their wits. Besides, no one wants little kids tagging along with you to go trick or treating, when you could go with your friends to Haunted Houses, and not ones set up by the town hall. We were just about to pass the house, not thinking anything of it, when we heard a moan coming from Old Man Reaper s house. Their eyes grew wide with fear. Mr. G. ... Let s finish eating, I said. Darn! all the boys said in unison. We all immediately started laughing. We sat around and finished off all of the pizza. We all went back into the living room, except me. I hung around to make sure my brother had his costume on right and it looked scary enough. He looked amazingly creepy. I ran to my little brother and jumped onto the couch beside him. So we all rummaged about in our bags for our flashlights, and when we turned them on, there was a black cat staring straight at us, with red, glowing eyes. The boys all gasped. We jumped but didn t make any noise for fear of someone hearing us. We started to go up the stairs but decided to make sure we all stayed together in case of an emergency. We started to tiptoe through the house and look into all of the rooms. Suddenly, a door opened behind us, and a tall, toothpick looking man came out and had a round white face, two dots for a nose, and a thin smile, like the one you would see on the face of a murderer behind his next victim, waiting to strike. ... ANSWER: An estate held in tenancy by the entirety is limited to homestead property held by a husband and wife during coverture. In LaSalle Bank, the appellate court affirmed a judgment against the husband in September 3, 1999. Id. at 281. The husband transferred the property from him and his wife in joint tenancy to a tenancy by the entirety on September 20, 1999. Id. The Appellate Court reasoned that the Trial Court s finding that the husband transferred the property to tenancy by the entirety solely to avoid a judgment creditor was not against the manifest weight of the evidence because 1) the husband owned less than $4,000 of assets at the time he transferred the property into tenancy by the entirety, 2) the husband didn t make the transfer around 1998 when he was advised to do so by a family attorney in order to protect the estate and make the transfer easier upon his death, since his assets were tied up in the business, 3) the husband did not own the residence individually or as a tenant in common with his wife, in which case there may have been a legitimate reason to transfer the property to tenancy by the entirety other than to avoid a judgment debt. 3) the husband made the transfer to tenancy by the entirety at a time when to not make such a transfer would have rendered him insolvent, and 4) the transfer was made within days after the Appellate ... • 11. Themes In The Sapphires The Sapphires directed by Wayne Blair represents the theme of war throughout the film with the use of cinematic techniques and setting. The Sapphires follows four aboriginal girls; Julie, Cynthia, Gail and Kay on their adventure to Vietnam in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. The film follows the four girls on their journey around Vietnam performing for American troops while fulfilling their dreams of becoming a famous singing group. Throughout the film, Blair explores the theme of war through a variety of scenes and techniques. War ruins the lives of many people and this is demonstrated through the film with the use of cinematic techniques, setting and with the support of other themes. By exploring the theme of war, Blair is able to help the audience make connections to the film through the events and setting the character s experience. Wayne Blair depicts the theme of war with the scene of the girls arriving in Vietnam and travelling to their camp. Through the use of setting, the devastation of war is displayed with the change of scenery as they travel further within the country. When the girls and Dave are first travelling through, the setting is bright and cheerful; they are happy and excited which is shown through a medium long shot of the characters and their transport. As they travel further into the country, the scenery changes as it becomes gloomy and is destroyed. Through the tracking medium long shot, the scenery is displayed while ... The ball leaves the hand on a 90 mph fastball at 97 mph. There is definitely a transfer of energy as the ball is in motion. Newton s third law states; for every action on an object there will always be an equal and opposite force exerted by that object. This beckons the question of what forces act against a ball? There are 3 forces acting upon a ball once it is released; velocity, drag, and gravity all act upon the ball. Here s how, velocity is the force pushing it forward it is generated by the person throwing the ball, drag is the air resistance which pushes back against the velocity, and gravity which is constant and pushes the ball down against the upward velocity. Those forces for sure are slowing the pitch, yet it is not an equal force of the energy but into a pitch. When a bat connects with a ball there is a collision and a transfer of energy. When the ball makes it to the catcher then there is another collision and energy is conserved. • 32. The Effects Of Cancer Paved The Road For My Life Research Experience I was forced to leave my childhood an a early age. My mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer when I was eight years old. This moment I became the parent to my mother to nurse my mother back to health following her surgery and radiation treatments. My mother s life was spared thanks to advancing medical treatments. Intimately witnessing the impact of cancer paved the road for my passion in biomedical research. Ten years later, I began my journey at Mills College, where I obtained a B.A in Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology. While at Mills College, I was confronted with another reality when I learned my father was diagnosed with testicular cancer. After immediate surgery and chemotherapy, his cancer was eliminated. Taking part in connecting science with medicine for medical advancements aimed to benefit human health became my focus and obtaining experience in the biomedical research became imperative. Metabolic Integration in Salmonella enterica: My first research experience began with a summer internship at the Bacteriology department in the University of Wisconsin, Madison investigating the compensatory mechanisms involved in metabolic integration. Specifically, the overarching goal was to identify the changes and alternative pathways required to sustain life of Salmonella enterica strain containing a thiamine, B1, biosynthetic gene replacement, thiH, with Bacillus substilis equivalent non homologous enzyme gene, thiO, which is most prevalent ... • 33. Essay On Ethnicity And Multiculturalism The meaning of music and its value has evolved over the years of its birth. In the present world, music is now interpreted and taken as one can imagine it. The idea and worth of music to an individual or group can mean anything to them. There is no consistent meaning of music because anyone can create their own meaning rather than following another s. Ethnicity on the other hand has a solid definition. From the Oxford Concise Dictionary of Sociology, Ethnicity defines individuals who consider themselves, or are considered by others, to share common characteristics which differentiate them from the other collectives in a society within which they develop distinct cultural behavior. I bring this up because I grew up in an environment that is filled to the brim with different cultures and backgrounds, but the music that the children learn only represents one group. I feel like the town s music program could have been so much more but it fell stuck to traditions. By doing this, children immediately become uninterested in music and dislike taking music classes and only a handful of children stay within the program. Their only reason to take the class is to fill the requirement then afterwards never take a music class again. In the end, the students have more trouble finding their own identity, ethnically and musically. They had to explore the music for themselves and find what they like. I believe it is important to showcase all of the distinct genres and styles of music in a music classroom because they are all important to whoever is listening and it helps show the students that they should be proud of what they identify themselves as. It is disappointing to see such a great and well funded music program such as South Brunswick Township to fall under traditions and norms, and not further explore other music that can help students find themselves. • 34. Surrounded By Happiness Rhetorical Analysis Surrounded By Happiness My exhibit is called Surrounded by Happiness, to show how happiness can depend on our surroundings. Although happiness can come from a color, location, and doing the things we love; the one thing that makes happiness almost universal is being surrounded by people and things who can help bring out the happiness within us. When we are accompanied by someone who is cheerful and has positive energy, it rubs off and in turn, makes the people surrounding them happy too. It is simple to find happiness and sometimes the littlest things can bring happiness to us and often times it is taken for granted in our daily lives. The theme of this exhibit is to show how people can contribute to daily happiness even when it s just from their attitude, energy, and presence. Also, to show how it is important to know who and what we surround ourselves with and how they can affect us. When we are surrounded by people that are positive, cheerful, and fun; it affects everyone around us. In The Cordoba Fair, there are two women performing an act that is cheerful, full of energy, and are having fun doing what they love. This makes the audience filled with joy and everyone is seen with a smile on their face. The shades of blue and red on their clothing add to the cheerful mood of the painting. • 37. The Equal Protection Clause Of The Fourteenth Amendment The equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution was at first created to protect against racial discrimination, but the Supreme Court later expanded the clause to also providing equal treatment amongst different races. The clause says, No state shall...deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws (U.S. Constitution. Art./Amend. XIV, Sec. 1.) A person could not be discriminated upon solely because of his or her race and if the law treated a group of people differently, then a valid reason for the discrepancy of different treatment must exist. Racial minorities, but mainly women, have historically been subjected and made vulnerable to harsh restrictions on activities such as voting, attending college, and working as lawyers. These restrictions, based on stereotypes overlooked the actual capability and potential of each individual woman. For many cases dealing with discrimination of women, the Court looked to another important element of equal protection, which stated that unfair treatment couldn t be based on immutable distinctions, such as race and gender, because those fixed distinctions are uncontrollable and unrelated to ability. In the case of Frontiero v. Richardson, 411 U.S. 677 (1973), the Supreme Court was just one vote short of adopting gender as a suspect classification. In United States v. Antigone And The Adjustment Bureau Summary Faith Morrow Ms. Gottner Pre AP;5th hour 20 December, 2017 Compare and Contrast Essay Both Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau have similarities and differences, when analyzing one government and democracy about the both of them! There are many ways to compare and contrast these two pieces! Although Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau are completely different, there are many similarities that you can draw from the both of them. Not only can you relate both of theses pieces together using one motif, you can also relate the same motif to the real world and to the choices that you make! In Antigone, government and democracy played a huge role throughout the story! Creon is one that really relates to this motif! In the city of Thebes, the government was a form of democratic democracy. At the time, Creon was king! Throughout the story, Creon ruled as a dictator! His everyday choices depended on his governmentative standing! He used his power over the people in the city when making choices that he thought would be beneficial. He only listened to himself and he believed that every choice he made was right! Many different characters in the story tried to offer advice to Creon, when they realized that he was making irrational decisions, but he chose to ignore them and he continued along his own path. For example, Tiresias(who is a seer, and knows what s going to happen in the future) tried to warn Creon about what would happen at the rate Creon was going at! Tiresias tried to offer Creon advice and he told Creon that he really should take his advice, but Creon took this as an insult. Whenever someone told Creon what to do, he took it as an insult and he wouldn t listen to anyone, but himself. In the Adjustment Bureau, government and democracy arises right when the movie begins and is continued throughout the film. At the beginning of the movie, David was running for Congress! Due to this, he had to change his lifestyles and he had to be more cautious about the choices that he made. For example, at the beginning of the movie David s support system was weakened, because he got into a bar fight that went viral! Malthusian focuses on bringing importance to the issue of overpopulation and how it strains many aspects of our lives such as the environment, and economy. Therefore, Thomas Robert Malthus theory of overpopulation is a prime example of the dangers overpopulation can have on our planet if there are no measures taken to ensure that there will be a sustainable future. Furthermore, there are inconsistent population to food growth in many countries and this can be very damaging to the economy. For instance, there has been a rapid growing population in India but agricultural production has slowed down. Which means that there is a scramble for increasingly scarce resources. This does not only affect the economy exports but it also negatively impacts the citizen of the country since it can get more expensive for large families to provide food for their children. While many scholars have held beliefs that Shakespeare s works have been written by figures such as Christopher Marlowe, Francis Bacon, William Stanley, and others, the most heated debate today is between William Shakespeare and Edward DeVere, the Earl of Oxford. Each side of this debate has many followers, the Stratfordians, or those who claim Shakespeare to be the true author, and the Oxfordians who believe that true credit should go to DeVere. While the ideas of the true identity of Shakespeare have differed over the years in an almost trend like fashion, a very popular idea has surfaced over the last century. The most prolific debate today is between the Stratfordians, or those who claim Shakespeare to be the true author, and the Oxfordians, those who claim Edward DeVere, Earl of Oxford, to be the true author. The first question to ask in such a circumstance is why doubt exists. For instance, no scholars question the works of writers and philosophers such as Montisqueu, Hobbes, or Locke. Why then, is there any question as to who wrote Shakespeare? It would seem to most people that the name on the plays should logically be the name of the author. Stratfordians claim exactly this fact as one of their strongest arguments. The only problem with this seemingly simplistic argument lies in the spelling differences between the man named Will Shakespere and the name written on the plays, William Shakespeare (Whalen 8). In fact, the records of (Shakespere s) lifetime almost always spelled his name Shakespere while the names on the plays were always spelled Shakespeare, about half the time with a hyphen which generally denoted a made up name or pseudonym (Whalen 8). Such a slight difference may seem insignificant, but for those who doubt authorship, this is a way of questioning the very basis of Stratfordian claims that authorship is inarguable, and introducing the possibility of ... Sustainable construction When it comes to building assessment methods, this theme led to many and different forms of studies on the relationship between the project team integration and the sustainable construction. Comparing dominant construction strategies with sustainable construction, Lutzkendorf Lorenz (2011) argue that, on one hand, sustainable construction requires greater disciplinary specialization and greater functional dependence between components. On the other hand, traditional construction, which in turn depends on greater integration between project team members (Robichaud Anantatmula, 2011; Rohracher, 2001). There are also research based on empirically point of view, a number of scholars have tried to test such claims by developing quantitative indices for different dimensions of project team integration and sustainable construction and by examining the statistical relation between them. For example, Mollaoglu Korkmaz, Swarup, James Whitcomb Riley (2013) examined the relation between project delivery methods, project team integration and LEED building scores in 12 case studies in the United States. They operationalized integration by the early collaboration of the project s participants, the chemistry among participants and the timing and method of communication (Mollaoglu Korkmaz, Swarup, Riley, 2013). (Szabo 1) If legally treatment was voluntary during 2012 then why did over half of those that needed treatment not receive it? A majority of the mentally ill went without care because although treatment is there, it is not educated as an obligation towards being cured. Laws in regards to the mentally ill are allowing them to try to live a life equal to someone without a mental illness. While this is ideal, this attempt leads to patients ignoring the need for treatment, a process that if followed through will limit their restrictions, and exposing them to situations that will exacerbate the condition. In society, today, the mentally ill are stereotyped as a group of people who are incapable of performing actions in the same way that someone without a mental illness can. This leads to barriers for the mentally ill such as limited access to a proper education and not being able to apply for certain jobs. Transient activation of CaMKIIβ relaxes cytoskeleton, promotes actin polymerization and CaMKIIβ recruitment, and favors cytoskeleton growth. This model has been shown in both synaptogenesis (Okamoto et al., 2007) and OL maturation (Waggener et al., 2013). Based on this theory, we proposed that prolonged CaMKIIβ activation by NMDA R mediated Ca2+ influx leads to destabilization of actin cytoskeleton and membrane disintegration in mature OLs. Although our experiments unambiguously showed that NMDA R activation results in CaMKIIβ activation, direct proof that links CaMKIIβ activation and membrane reduction are lacking. The CaMKIIβA303R mutant retains its ability to bundle F actin, but loses its Ca2+/CaM binding capacity. Based on our proposed model, Tat induced [Ca2+]i increase should have no effect on OL membrane area since Ca2+/CaM can not bind and activate CaMKIIβA303R, and promotes its release from actin cytoskeleton. Most of our experiments are done in mice cells. Since HIV is a human disease, we used an hBrnAgg model to try to verify our finding in human cells. We thought that the hBrnAgg model serves our experiments best because 1) it mimics the in vivo environment with the presence of all major CNS cell types, 2) myelination has been observed in the model by other investigators, thus fulfill the needs of studying effect of HIV/Tat on both OLs and myelin, and 3) the hBrnAgg model can be maintained for a long period of time (up to 60 days), made it a good model to study long term effect of HIV/Tat. Our immunostaining experiments suggested that there are far less OLs in the aggregates than we expected. The title headings for each sub chapters are Video Games, Television, Internet, and Movies. Within each subchapter he uses a vast number of examples from each section to support his argument.
