Twin Studies In Behavior Genetics
Twin Studies Twin studies are part of the methods used in behavior genetics, which includes all
data that are genetically informative siblings, adoptees, pedigree data etc. Monozygotic (identical)
have all of the same genes and dizygotic (fraternal) have 50% of the same genes. Twin studies are
very unique.
One set of twins sisters are being raised 275 miles apart by a kind of accidental science experiment.
Two sets of couples traveled together to Chenzhou, a city in China s Hunan Province. When they
saw the babies they were adopting, the couples had their first twin moment. When the kids come
off the elevator the couples said that they were shocked that the fact that they were getting twins

The infants were six months old at them time and the couples wondered if they were sisters.
They asked the people at the orphanage to see if they were and they said they were not even
related even though they were listed as having the same birthday. The couples feared that if they
did not continue with them adoption that the girls would get separated far away from each
other. So the couples took the girls back to Canada with them. They wanted to do what was the
best for the babies, even if it they had to raise the twins apart from each other. The family s now
are trying to get together as much as possible, so that their kids can bond with each other. One of
the twins after she got a little older said I don t hate it. I don t love it. Both of the girls took their

Analyzing Women in Abusive Relationships
One can be harmed socially from an abusive relationship. With women, abuse in a prior
relationship can lead to difficulty committing to someone in a new relationship. Abuse can also
develop trust issues. This not only negatively affects relationships in regards to dating people,
but friendships and relationships with family members, and other people. Thankfully there are
many resources for males and females to use if they ve been abused in a relationship. However,
if one has developed trust issues, it may also be difficult for them to open up not only to people
who they ve had prior relationships with of different types, but also new people. Sending
someone for counseling that was in an abusive relationship can only help if the person who was
abused is willing to open up to the counselor. A person who was abused may not be willing to
speak about how they were abused because they are embarrassed or scared. Many other factors can
lead to one not wanting to open up. One can be impacted physically from an emotional relationship
in many negative ways. Bruises, cuts, and broken bones are all common from physical abuse. Males
and females who were abused sexually may experience pain during sexual intercourse in the area
of their genitals. Some people who are abused use things such as alcohol, drugs, or tobacco to help
them cope. All of these choices can negatively impact one s physical state. Medical conditions such
as heart disease can be brought on from physical abuse in the

Hurricanes form only in warm ocean waters near the equator. Cumulonimbus clouds are present,
the warm air over the ocean rises and high and low air pressure pushes new warm air. Then air
rises and begin to swirl. Storms north of the equator tend to spin counterclockwise while storms
south spin clockwise. When the storm keeps rotating quickly an eye forms, and when the winds
reach 39 mph it is officially a called a tropical storm. And when the storm reaches 74 mph then it is
safe to call it a tropical cyclone or hurricane. (How do hurricanes form, 2016)
In order for a hurricane to occur the atmosphere must meet certain conditions. The ocean water has
to be warm about 80 degrees Fahrenheit, because

Native Americans and Peyote Use Essay
For better or worse, many societies of the modern world tolerate certain methods of self
intoxication. Despite the possibility of negative consequences, all the cultures of the world the
consumption of substances like alcohol and tobacco are sanctioned under particular circumstances.
All societies face the reality that significant proportions of mankind seek to the same time expressly
criminalizing others. This irony is made more bizarre by the evidence that a myriad of rich cultural
timelines can supply to demonstrate that there is reasonable historical precedence in existence to
show the use of alternative forms of drugs being cultivated and utilized.(McKenna) The concept of

By contrast, if the same group had discovered and ingested some hallucinogenic mushrooms,
they would be compelled to confront and would surely have discussed and attempted to
understand the nature of their otherworldly mushroom induced encounters. Assuming that their
neurochemistry was not so different from ours today, those occurrences would have been well
beyond the bounds of their everyday experiences and vocabulary. They could easily have
concluded that these plants were the residences of divinities or other spiritual forces. (Nichols)

White Tail Deer Research Paper
Habitat
The White tail deer can often be found all over southern Canada and most parts of the United
States. Their range extends throughout Central America to Bolivia. This sophisticated animal s
habitat range is usually less than a square mile. Some of the White tail deer s habitats include
grasslands, prairies and plains, mountains, and forests. These deer prefer a more sheltered habitat;
they often reside in forests, including hardwoods, coniferous, and tropical forests. However they
may reside in forests such as tropical forests for a more sheltered habitat. The White tale deer can
adapt to their many habitats and they have incredibly strong muscles in their leg that allow them
to run up to speeds such as 30 miles per hour! This is quite an advantage when it comes to running
from predators. The White tail deer has quite simple needs for a healthy life. Shelter from harmful
weather or predators, food and water, and the space to find food and water, and to attract a mate.
White Tailed Deer Fun facts!

They do this to adapt to the colour of the current season they are in. This can benefit in many
ways such as camouflage or hide from predators. The White tails deer is an important part of the
environment as it is a good food source for bobcats, panthers, and coyotes. Another extremely
important role in the environment they play is eating invasive plant species since they are
herbivores. If the White tail deer was to be taken out of the ecosystem, a lot of these plants would

Summary Of The Poem Happy By Forde
Forde s central claim was that no matter the age group or what type of music you liked, this
song was sure to have you up dancing to the beat. Forde also makes the claim that no matter how
repetitive this song is, people are still going to get up and dance or sing along to it every time it
comes on. The passage states that Happy has gone a bit further and has pan generational appeal.
(224) Forde also claims that because Happy has pulled off some of the impossible things. But

Free Throw Shooting
Smart 2 Introduction: Free throw shooting is an art and skill which can affect the outcome of the
game. The true definition is a stand still uncontested shot that is placed fifteen feet or four and
fifty seven hundredths meters from the basketball hoop (Lowry,5/13/07). In a coach s mind free
throws should be automatic, a player should rarely miss a free throw. But as the game keeps
evolving, the fundamental of the free throw is being lost. There are plenty of things that go into
the shot, first the routine, then the balance, after that you look at the rim or sight your goal, and
finally you shoot (Timms, 10/6/08). If you are missing mechanics or balance it will throw off your
shot, even changing your routine can drop your free... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A routine consists of dribbles, spins, and breaths, whatever someone s routine is it will only be
effective if they repeat it (Lowry,5/13/07). If you change your routine a couple times in one
season it can throw off your rhythm and drop your shot percentage. Rhythm follows routine
because with the routine comes rhythm. When the shooter repeats their routine for a long period
of time the natural rhythm flows into the shot and helps the percentage (McCormick, 2/10/10).
Of all these three things, none of them are the most important, one must repeat all of them to be
considered a good free throw shooter. Focusing during a free throw is one of the most key things
you can do. With the game on the line the shooter cannot be thinking about the pressure they must
think about the shot and that s it. When the crowd is yelling wildly the shooter must clear their
mind and do what feels natural (Timms, 10/6/08). A free throw is shot from the same spot with
no defensive pressure being the reason it is called a FREE throw (McCormick, 2/10/10). When a
free throw is missed it is the mechanics, rhythm, or focus that went wrong. Coaches believe that free
throws are inexcusable, even though there are plenty of things that could go wrong that is why a
true shooter repeats his routine and shot form every

IU Scholarship Essay
Although a seemingly odd combination, I am double majoring in Chemistry and French at IUPUI.
This is a complimentary pair for me in terms of my future endeavors, however. I aspire to attend
medical school, ultimately to become a pediatric endocrinologist at Riley Hospital for Children.
While some choose medicinefor the paycheck, prestige, or to simply carry on the family business,
I wish to become a doctor for an entirely different reason. When I was eight years old, I was
diagnosed with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), a genetic disorder that affects the body s
general health, growth, and development. Devoting my career to becoming a pediatric
endocrinologist is a welcomed opportunity for me to serve as a source of care and comfort for
my patients and their families, as I was once in their shoes. My current plan of study at IUPUI is
an excellent plan of preparation for this lofty endeavor. While majoring in Chemistry will provide
the hard, scientific background required for medicine, majoring in French is the catalyst in giving
me the edge to becoming a caring, compassionate future physician. I shadowed Dr. Scott Renshaw
at IU Family Medicine last semester. I saw firsthand that the realm of medicine has turned its
attention from scientific knowledge to patient care. The successful practice of medicine... Show

Conformity In The Chocolate War
The protagonist of any text is the central most character, and is the character through which we
understand and interpret the plot. In many ways the plot, or theme of these two books is
interlaced, all formed around a series of questions posed by students in The Wave how could a
small minority of people (Nazi s) rule the majority (the German public)? The Chocolate War
merely substitutes Nazi s for The Vigils, and the German public for the boys at a Catholic School.
The Wave is the early phase to conformity and societal obedience, whereas in The Chocolate War,
the cycle of fear, pressure and obedience is thoroughly entrenched within the system at all levels.
Jerry Renault, from The Chocolate War, and The Wave s Laurie Saunders, are the central characters
of both texts, which explore themes of identity, violence and conformity. Both characters develop
immensely over the course of both novels and change from bland characters, to relatable figures....

Jerry s character develops through the process of refusing to involve himself within the school
chocolate sale. My name is Jerry Renault and I m not going to sell the chocolates His refusal is an
act of defiance against Brother Leon, Assistant Headmaster/Homeroom Teacher and malicious
leader of the school. Jerry s rebellion stems from an assignment given by The Vigils, the school
gang. After ten days, Jerry was then instructed to accept the chocolates, however, refusal continued
and surely after, he was punished. You ve disobeyed The Vigils. That calls for punishment , which
presents the influence of psychological and physical violence, intimidation and harassment that is

Heirloom Swot Analysis Essay
An Analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats in Opening an Heirloom Seed
Supply Online Americans are showing a greater interest in living healthier lifestyles; eating
cleaner has become a growing part of our culture. As this culture grows, so too does the need for
businesses that supply ingredients to support the trend (Essen Englander, 2013). In recent studies,
it has been found that genetically modified foods are not as preferred as the more natural versions
from before mankind endeavored to make structural changes to raw products (Bawa Anilakumar,
2012). One of the most difficult aspects of changing one s lifestyle to eliminate GMOs is finding
said foods in a natural state. This speaks to a need for supplying... Show more content on

Threats:
Chain Retail (Whole Foods)
Competition Potential

Economy Fluctuations
After evaluating this analysis, it will be easier to determine if the negative aspects of starting such a
venture significantly outweigh any positives. Possibly the easiest of the four quadrants of the
SWOT Analysis to determine are the strengths.
Strengths
The strengths of running an heirloom seed business from home: easy inventory storage; no
employee issues or costs; no need to wear a uniform or leave the house; and no true schedule.
Unlike many businesses that sell physical products, whether it s internet sales or in store, seeds take
up very little space. One could easily sell many varieties with nothing more than a garage to store
the inventory! A preferred method would be to have a separate room, climate controlled, with
shelves to hold bins of inventory. Unlike selling t shirts or gadgets, seeds could have months of
inventory on hand in one converted guest bedroom. Operating in this fashion would negate the
need to hire employees.
Having a traditional business in a store often requires hiring people to assist in the running of it.
With no employees, there is no need for a human relations department, overtime pay, extra
insurance costs, or salaries. Based on statistics from the Bureau of Labor published in September
of 2017, one part time service employee averages a cost per hour of

medical errors. I believe this important factor on staffing issue may be related to the nursing

Analysis Of The New York Times By David Brooks Essay
Argumentative Essay on Supporting Our Students
In an article by The New York Times, by David Brooks, called, Support Our students. Brooks
explains that instead of free college, maybe they should help college students with everyday needs.
He said that college is already free for the working class and underpaid. (Brooks) He doesn t
believe that making community college free will help anymore with the debt, then it did before. In
sum, I will discuss the argument that David Brooks portrays and explain why I agree with it. I
will talk about three main points from Brooks article and discuss what it s like in other countries
that do have free college.
In David Brooks article, he mentions that students actually have free college at their disposal. By
using pell grants and scholarships, he believes that we re set. I don t disagree. In my experience,
my scholarship and my pell grant both pay for my school. However, I must have one scholarship
to receive the other and as a student that comes from a poor household, my pell grant covers all
of my college expenses aside from my books. He said it s more beneficial if instead of making
college free, that they should help the students. (Brooks) Such as living expenses, book fees, and
transportation.(Brooks) He mentions how most students have jobs, full or part time. (Brooks) I
am lucky enough to have a free living space on food, but I have a part time job and most of my
money goes towards saving up for my next semester s textbooks

Site Analysis
Significance
High performance, sustainable/green buildings have become a trend and are gradually entering the
mainstream as an important market sector in the United States and globally. Construction of a
sustainable building typically begins with the selection of a suitable site. A building s location and
orientation on a site impact not only a wide range of environmental factors but also security and
accessibility factors. The Site Assessment pilot credit for site sustainability measure promotes
understanding of the character of the site and the physical, biological, and cultural links between
the site and the surrounding landscape. Performing an inventory of the site maximizes the

These maps are available through US Geological Survey, but in case of a precise assessment, a
licensed surveyor in accordance with specifications tailored to the construction could be required.
The topography influences aspects of the site, such as the microclimate, distribution of plant and
animal species, water movement, and storm water management practices. The goal of this section
of the LEED rating system is to promote options for minimizing disturbance and skillfully
incorporating the existing topography into the design.
2. Hydrology LEED rates this point based on flood hazard areas, delineated wetlands, lakes,
streams, shorelines, rainwater collection and reuse opportunities, and TR 55 initial water storage
capacity of the site. Change of land use may sometimes result in a negative impact on water quality.
Contamination may occur from any of the construction side effects, such erosion and
sedimentation, chemicals, or microorganisms. Any site disturbing activities can increase the risks
of flooding, erosion, and other ecological impacts to properties. Hence all such components and
risks are considered under the hydrology part of the site assessment report.
3. Climate LEED evaluates climate under site assessment report on credentials such as solar
exposure, heat island effect potential, seasonal sun angles, prevailing winds, monthly precipitation,
and temperature ranges.

My Career As A Purpose Of A Zoologist
The career I am pursing is Zoology, which requires a degree in Biology. I chose this career due to
my passionate interest in wildlife and my personal character. I have not chosen what career branch
I would like to partake in because of the numerous options. But that requires additional research
that will be sought out during the upcoming years of college. A Zoologist is a person who studies
wildlife, the habitat of wildlife and how animals adapt to it. In addition, they also study the
behavior of animals, animal characteristics, and how they react to human activity. The purpose of a
Zoologist is to experiment, researchand study animals. This could mean in the wild itself or in a
controlled area. Overall, Zoologist overlook the large picture of animal communities and how
specieswork in life. The skills you need to become a well practiced zoologist are traits I have
found in myself. Of course, the interest of researching animas is the most important. But you
also need communication skills, a strong logical problem solving approach, keen observation
skills, and can independently or as a team. Majority of those skills I possess but could continue
to improve on. The profession appeals to me because of my love for animals mostly. I have been
interested in animals as a young child and I actually prefer animals over people. I m caring
enough to dedicate my time when I m older to wildlife and wildlife projects. What else interests me
about animals is how they

Chronicle Of A Death Foretold By Garcia Marquez
Magical Realism through Setting in GarcГa MГЎrquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold
Question: How far does setting serve to reinforce or emphasize meanings or themes within
Chronicle of a Death Foretold?
Work Used: Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez
In Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez, the setting plays a potent role in
showing a certain theme. Especially what happens in a certain setting plays a dominant part in
developing a theme. MГЎrquez is best known for his use of magical realism in his novels. He
repeatedly uses strange, surreal details to highlight otherwise ordinary events. Magical realism is an
important theme grown with the setting of the novel. Magical realism is the fantastic or imaginary
and often unsettling images or events that are depicted in a sharply detailed and realistic manner.
In other words, it is the use of unusual or impossible characteristics in a real life setting. Magical
realism allows magical elements to be inserted into a text to make it more interesting and appealing
to the reader. MГЎrquez uses setting to portray those magical elements like foreshadowing, abuse
of power, and the concept of mutual respect through magical realism.
The first example of magical realism is when Santiago foreshadows his death through a dream. At
the beginning of the novel, it says on Pages 3 and 4 that He d dreamed he was going through a
grove of timber trees...and for an instant he was happy in his dream... He was

Characteristics Of The Frontal Lobe
The frontal lobe is directly at the front part of the brain and this particular lobe controls the thinking
process, language, planning, making decisions, and also controls your behavior as well as your
emotions. There are three main sections of the frontal lobe which is the prefrontal cortex, the
premotor area, and the motor area. The most important function of the frontal lobeis that it contains
the motor cortex. The motor cortex has cells that control the movements of our body s voluntary
muscles and sends commands to the PNS (Peripheral Nervous System). The prefrontal cortex job
is for high cognitive thinking and also plays a factor when it comes to your personality. The
premotor area is known for helping the body move by integrating sensory information and
controlling the muscles that are closest to the body s main axis. The left frontal lobe side of the brain
develops the process of speech and language known as the Broca s area. In the event that damage
takes place to the Broca s Area, it will cause a person to have speech difficulties and their brain
will be able to process the information yet the patient will still have difficulties when it comes to
speech. In the event that the front part is damaged it can cause so many complications and issues.
Difficulty retaining information, apathy, delayed response to questions, scatterbrained, and
inappropriate social behavior. If the back part of the frontal lobe is damaged it can cause extreme

Youth Works Response to Alcohol Consumption among Young...
Current responses
For the purposes of this research chapter I shall be exploring youth works response to the issue of
alcohol consumption among young people today. According to the Youth Work Act 2001;
Youth work means a planned programme of education designed for the purpose of aiding and
enhancing the personal and social development of young persons through their voluntary
participation, and which is
(a) Complementary to their formal, academic or vocational education and training; and
(b) Provided primarily by voluntary youth work organisations.
Youth workers achieve this by creating circumstances which enable young people to feel
comfortable with themselves, make and sustain personal relationships, reach their potential and
find their place in society. Due to the nature of their work, youth workers form close relationships
with the young people they engage with. These relationships are central to the youth work process.
It is essentially a partnership, which allows the young people space to express themselves and
provides an opportunity for learning which they may otherwise ignore. By utilising this relationship
youth workers can offer essential support to the young people during the crucial stages of their
development by befriending them, listening to them and advocating on their behalf. The
importance of this relationship does not change when working with young people around issues
such as alcohol. In fact, in many ways it actually benefits the facilitation of the

China on Diplomatic Protection Essay examples
China on Diplomatic Protection The topic of diplomatic protection historically is the link of
nationality, which provides the basis of a right of protection by the state, although in some cases,
by means of an international agreement a nation may have the right to represent another nation and
act for the benefit of its citizens. Essentially states make claims against other bodies for
compensation and remedy in the event that they have suffered by injury of denial or justice in the
other body on the basis of the nationality of a person. The process of protection begins with the
individual filing a grievance with their state of nationality. Then the state reviews the grievance and
reaches a verdict on the gravity of the issue.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Peoples Republic of China Has established strict guidelines on the topic of Diplomatic
Protection. The first guideline is that all citizens of any state are included under the definition of
a diplomat. They are considered this because all guests in the nation of China are expected to
represent their country to their fullest capacity. The second guideline stated by our policy clearly
states that if any property belonging to the government of another nation is in our country
(including the airspace above our country and the waters belonging to our country) it will to be
considered under the fore mentioned rules of diplomatic protection. In the case of an
international instance between a member of a foreign state and the government of China there
are also several laws established to prevent conflicts. If the member of the foreign state is an
official diplomat of a foreign body we will recognize this diplomats immunity and this diplomat
will be ejected form our country to their home country accompanied by an envoy of Chinese
officials for the purpose of conflict resolution. If the member of the foreign state is just a guest in
our country they will be detained in China until their home nation sends and envoy for the

Development of Marketing Strategy
Development of Marketing Strategy
Market: A market is any one of a variety of different systems, institutions, procedures, social
relations and infrastructures whereby businesses sell their goods, services and labor to people in
exchange for money. Goods and services are sold using a legal tender such as fiat money. This
activity forms part of the economy. It is an arrangement that allows buyers and sellers to exchange
items. Competition is essential in markets, and separates market from trade. Two persons may
trade, but it takes at least three persons to have a market, so that there is competition on at least
one of its two sides. Markets vary in size, range, geographic scale, location, types and variety of
human communities, as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They match the distribution to the customers and include places such as Curry s, PC World, Wal
Mart, Target, and many others. Physical distribution firms are places such as warehouses that store
and transport the company s product from its origin to its destination. Marketing services agencies
are companies that offer services such as conducting marketing research, advertising, and
consulting. Financial intermediaries are institutions such as banks, credit companies and insurance
companies.
Another aspect of microenvironment is the customers. There are different types of customer
markets including consumer markets, business markets, government markets, international
markets, and reseller markets. The consumer market is made up of individuals who buy goods and
services for their own personal use or use in their household. Business markets include those that
buy goods and services for use in producing their own products to sell. This is different from the
reseller market which includes businesses that purchase goods to resell as is for a profit. These are
the same companies mentioned as market intermediaries. The government market consists of
government agencies that buy goods to produce public services or transfer goods to others who
need them. International markets include buyers in other countries and includes customers from
the previous categories.
Competitors are also a factor in the microenvironment and include companies

Emerson And Individuality
How does Emerson define individuality in paragraph one of Self Reliance? In the first paragraph
of Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he defines his individuality by interpreting the true
meaning of emotions and perspectives of other writers and the importance of being authentic.
Emerson also discourages following behind other writers in their perspectives and encourages
people to develop their own opinions. Throughout the first paragraph, Emerson speaks of the
sentiment of feelings and the impact it as on its readers and the importance of speaking your own
thoughts and words. Emerson tells us that we are to speak our latest conviction, and then we will
be socially understood and respected. In the writings, Emerson also encourages people to pay more
attention to their self, and one s own thoughts as they come to mindbecause as we dismiss them they
always return as with an isolated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet he dismisses without notice his thought, because it is his. In every work of genius we
recognize our own rejected thoughts and: they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty .
In the previously quoted text, Emerson starts out by specifically identifying man as the subject and
gives the reader a sense of imagery describing the brief moment when a thought comes to mind and
he tells the reader to focus more on themselves rather than the thoughts and feelings of other poets
and wise men. Emerson begins to downplay the character [man] by saying he dismisses everything
that comes to mind, treating himself as unworthy, and disregarding all emotions and thoughts of
himself as if they are not valued. At the end, Emerson talks about the time when we find ourselves
relating to great works of previous thoughts of one s own self and we pity ourselves when they

COMPARATIVE EVALUATION BETWEEN MATHEMATICAL MODELS FOR DRUG
RELEASE OF CURCUMIN LOADED MULTIFUNCTIONAL ALBUMIN NANOPARTICLES
Abstract:
Curcumin loaded albumin nanoparticles were employed for intra tumoral chemotherapy for
treatment of solid tumors1. Drug release study for Curcumin was monitored in vitro using
dialysis1. The drug release data was fitted into 5 mathematical models such as zero order, first
order, Hixen Crowell, Higuchi release and Korsmeyes Peppas release kinetics model. R2
coefficient was compared and was concluded that Higuchi release kinetics model is best suited for
the drug release kinetics for Curcumin.

Analysis:
Drug release data for curcumin was fitted into 5 mathematical models and studied to determine the
best mathematical model. The model chosen were:
i.Zero Order Kinetics
The zero order kinetics depends upon the initial concentration of the drug loaded on the
nanoparticles and refers to constant release of drug5,6. Zero order kinetics is represented as:
Qt=Qo+k*t
Qt = amount of drug dissolved in time t, Qo=initial amount of drug, k=zero order kinetics constant
ii.First Order Kinetics
The release of the drug which followed first order kinetics can be expressed by the equation7: log C
= log C0 Kt / 2.303
Co is the initial concentration of drug, k is the first order rate constant, and t is the time
iii.Hixon Crowell Release Kinetics
Hixson and Crowell derived the equation: Q01/3 Qt1/3 = Оє*t where Q0 is the initial amount of
drug, Qt is the remaining amount of drug at time t and Оє (kappa) constant incorporates surface
volume relation. The equation describes the release from systems where there is a change in
surface area and diameter of particles or tablets9.
iv.Higuchi Release Kinetics
Higuchi drug release kinetics model was proposed Higuchi in 1961 based on a matrix system8. The
matrix model is based on initial drug concentration in the, instantaneous drug

Characteristics Of African American Culture
In this essay, I will use RESOURCES provided to me to form and informed opinion on how to
explain how African American culture took parts from both African and European culture to form
its modern association. While African American culture grabs influences from African and
European culture, the foundation as well as a significant portion of practices and behaviors can be
found in African culture. Many slaves help on tightly to their African heritage, while a slave culture
sought invisibility through assimilating into American culture. These major influences helped
shape modern African American culture.
Over the course of 200 plus years, African and European influences mixed, intermingled and
created a hybrid we know as African American culture. The culture we recognize today takes
influences from original African culture, and European culture that was seen during the early
construction of American society. One trait we can see that has made its way into modern
culture is the concept of the cool pose ; in which African American men portray themselves as
closed off and more less free of emotion. As we can see through AUTHOR S research, this is a
trait originated from Nigerian emperors for whom coolness was a determination and symbol of
status. The cool attitude presented confidence and a level headed mind to their people under them.
To build upon this initial concept, black masking and black acting were both practices of hiding
one s stereotypical ethnic identity behavioral patterns; the thought was that by behaving a certain
way would give African Americans a sense of shelter. Other examples we can see, or rather hear,
more plainly, for example may be found in music. African Americanculture is tied closely to the
jazz genre, known for high action movement and rhythm, and the blues genre which is associated
with an emphasis on feeling and emotion, both of which are strong feature of African culture.
From the time the first boat carrying African slaves arrived in North America, there was an already
established one hundred year long history of using black people as slaves, because of this it was not
a far leap for the white settlers of the Virginia colony to prefer black slaves over the white
indentured

Analysis Of The Book The Of The Woods Essay
The following cool spring night, Arthur roamed the woods on foot. He d planned to take his
horse so he could cover more ground, but decided against that, as going to the stables and saddling
up would draw more attention. It was easier for him to slip out of the castle under the cover of
darkness.
He had to find Guinevere. But how?
In his chainmail, Arthur jogged through the woods, taking in the surroundings, which was difficult,
considering the only light shone down from a half moon covered with haze. Still, Arthur knew
these woods well and navigated the paths with relative ease.
However, finding a new trace of Guinevere was another matter. Sir Perceval was an excellent
tracker. If Arthur could enlist the knight s help, he might find clues about Guinevere s location. But
revealing his task to anyone was out of the question. That would involve confessing he was torn up
over the fact he d banished Guinevere, and his heart bled with misery over missing her. Arthur had
experienced battle many times and faced terrifying foes. But the soul shredding pain of losing
Guinevere hurt the most. Though Arthur trusted Percival more than most of his knights, the king
would not divulge his innermost feelings to the man. Arthur would find Guinevere without help.
Now rushing through the brush at a jog, Arthur searched for any detail that might help footprints,
snapped branches, a shred of cloth, the scent of recently burned wood anything that might alert him

The Awakening Analysis
Sacrifices can define one s character; the definition can either be the highest dignity or the lowest
degradation of the value of one s life. In The Awakening, Kate Chopin implicitly conveys the
sacrifice Edna Pontellier makes in the life which provides insight of her character and attributions
to her awakening. She sacrificed her past of a lively and youthful life and compressed it to a
domestic and reserved lifestyle of housewife picturesque. However, she meets multiple
acquaintances who help her express her dreams and true identity. Mrs. Pontellier s sacrifice
established her awakening to be defiant and drift away from the societal role of an obedient

For example, Robert Lebrun, who gives her all the affection and attention she wants, makes her
feel and act like how she was before she was married. As a result, she starts to disregard her
husband and his commands. Such as in the event, when Mr. Pontellier commanded her to come
inside the house after a long night. However, Mrs. Pontellier disobeyed him and stayed outside.
She would, through habit, have yielded to his desire; not with any sense of submission or
obedience to his compelling wishes, but unthinkingly, as we walk, move, sit, stand, go through the
daily treadmill of the life which has been portioned out to us (Chopin 40). At this stage of Mrs.
Pontellier greatly values the kind of freedom she had before marriage. Her newly oppression
towards her husband exhibits the defiance of women towards men. Chopin meant to show Mrs.
Pontellier as an outsider of society, in order to spread the image of women, who can make their
own decisions. After returning from vacation, Edna is a changed woman. When her husband and
children are gone, she moves out of the house and purses her own ambitions. She starts painting
and feeling happier. There were days when she was very happy without knowing why. She was
happy to be alive and breathing when her whole being seemed to be one with the sunlight, the color,
the odors, the luxuriant warmth of some perfect Southern day (Chopin 69). Her sacrifice greatly
contributed to her disobedient actions.

The Importance Of Commercial Buildings In The Ottoman Empire
Secondly, commercial buildings were so popular in Cairo because it was already a major trading
point for the Ottoman Empire. The different type of commercial buildings were wikalas, khans,
qaisariyas, suqs, and funduqs. Ismail explains that these type of buildings existed since the
Mameluke Empire period, but they were kept being built during the Ottoman Empire, with some
minor changes.
The wikalas were buildings located within the city walls and had a design that had shops on the
ground floor that faced onto courtyards and a rab system (living quarters) on the upper floors.
Some of the shops from the ground level had special designs in their facades that allowed the
merchants to display the imported goods that they had for sale. The building had only one
entrance per each facade, and each of them led to the open central courtyard that aside from
shops, had storerooms for the merchant s goods. To get access to the upper floors, people had to
use staircases that were usually placed in a corner of the facades (Ismail 2005).
The khans and funduqs were buildings that had combined functions of hostel and trading centre
and were used mostly by traveling merchants and visitors to the city. These buildings were built
mostly near the trading routes outside the city, and they required towers for extra protection,
however, some of them were located inside the city and did not required to be fortified because of
it. A major difference is that these buildings did not had shops in

means possible death. To some it s Dracula, sacrifice, devil, and fire. Everyone has a right to
believe how they want. In The Skeleton Key we see throughout the movie the color red; how
red lines of red brick dust are placed in various locations. Caroline uses the brick dust to try to
keep Violet, evil out. Surprisingly, flabbergasted by the results, Caroline realizes the truth about
Violet when she will not enter the room. Although Hoodoo is a religion, it s not real unless you
believe it s real; like witchcraft and voodoo. When Caroline goes in the secret room of the attic,
she discovers hair, blood, bones and hoodoo ritual paraphernalia. Caroline approaches Violet and
tells her what she found and told her she needs to know what happened to Ben when he was in the

Are People Truly Good At Heart
Are people truly good at heart or are people just born horrible. Anne Frank thought that people were
and I agree with her one hundred percent. You can t just judge people by what they portray since
the Germans were forcing people into their army, therefore the soldiers might have not wanted to
harm the Jews. After reading Anne Franks diary, watching the movie, reading the play, and
researching the Holocaust I agree with Anne Frank s statement. The reasons that I agree are that the
Holocaust won t last forever, the soldier showed kindness to Otto Frankwhen they were packing up
their belongings, and lastly that the world is experiencing a phase. In conclusion, people really are
good at heart. The first reason that people are truly good... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is shown in the movie where the soldier stops the other soldiers from ruining the annex after
he finds out that Otto was in the army. It is also shown in the play where it says, They are
waiting for us now. They ve allowed us five minutes to get our things. We can each take a bag
and whatever it will hold of clothing. These quotes are significant in many ways. The first way
is where the soldier wouldn t let the others destroy the secret annex. This shows how people are
good at heart by showing how the soldier gave even a little kindness when he had the chance. He
didn t have to stop the other soldiers from destroying the house since the people weren t going to
be living there anymore. The second reason is where it said that they had five minutes to get their
things together. The soldiers didn t have to allow them any time to pack up, but they did anyway.
Anne s family could have had to go to the camp without anything, but the soldiers showed some
kindness. The last reason is that the soldiers were waiting on the people in the annex. They could
have drug everyone out of the annex and put them into a truck, but they didn t they waited while
they packed their things. If they hadn t the people in the annex would have probably died sooner.
This is true because the people in the annex where aloud

The New Deal s Lasting Effect on Society I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the
American people, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt said after winning his party s nomination
in 1932 ( A New Deal for Americans ). The 1930s was a time of great economic depression; in
response the New Deal was FDR s plan for America s recovery. By 1933, when FDR took office,
one in four Americans was unemployed. Furthermore, there was widespread hunger, malnutrition,
overcrowding, and poor health. The New Deal was made to combat these tragic conditions and it
did so through the means of welfare and government intervention. Indeed, the New Deal was a
radical change to the way America had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This progressive act officially set up a national minimum wage, set up a forty hour work week,
guaranteed time and a half for overtime, and prohibited oppressive child labor (Friedrich). These
acts dramatically improved labor conditions. A clear improvement in labor could be seen from
before to after the New Deal labor reform. Americans, during the 1930s, clearly needed help. Too
many were unemployed, struggling, starving, and/or homeless. One of the biggest legacies of
the New Deal is that it combated unemployment with jobs in infrastructure. Many agencies and
programs were set up to help increase America s infrastructure and provide many needy people
with jobs. One of those organizations was the Works Progress Administration. Incredibly, the
WPA employed an average of 2.1 million people annually for a total of almost 8 million people.
It had become largest New Deal program and required almost 11 billion dollars to fund it
(Friedrich). The WPA was made with one goal in mind: to get people back to work so they can
get money in their pockets to survive. The WPA built highways, airfields, public buildings, and
did rural rehabilitation such as planting trees. In total, it had built around 110,000 public
buildings, 600 airports, 500,000 miles of roads, and 100,000 bridges ( New Deal ). Like the
WPA, the Civilian Conservation Corps, had been created to provide jobs, but it was mainly for
younger Americans. This program had employed and put 3

Anne Moody Coming Of Age Essay
In the Jim Crow South, Anne Moody lived her life trying to overcome the challenges of living in a
racist society. In her autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, she details her intimate
experiences as a young African American woman facing the challenges of growing up in the Jim
Crow South during the mid twentieth century. This autobiography is divided into four,
chronological sections: childhood, high school, college, and the Movement. In the first section of
the book, Moody recollects her life living in extreme poverty and battling racial distinctions at a
young age. Throughout her struggle to find a balance between school and work, Moody begins to
take note of the racial inequalities in her society. The black and white dichotomy was not the only
form of racial distinction she internalized. The poor treatment of high yellows ... Show more content

Because racial etiquette played a huge role in the dynamic of systematic oppression, this death
was not just any other death. This tragic event marked a turning point in Moody s life. She
finally came to a realization that the treatment of blacks in this country was unjust and cruel.
While growing into a beautiful woman, she also learns of the NAACP and their efforts to
overthrow racial inequality. She then transferred to Tougaloo College for her final two years of
college where she began taking part in the Movement. Here, Moody joined the NAACP. From the
sit in at Woolworth s in Jackson to numerous protests within the area, she allowed the struggle of
her people to pave the way to her membership in CORE. Shortly after, Moody became a CORE
activist in Madison County where she became very active in the Freedom Vote. Because of her avid
participation in this sector of the movement, her criticism of the movement in general offers a

Essay On The Equal Rights Amendment
Alice Paul and Crystal Eastman wrote the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA is an amendment to
the United States Constitution created to guarantee equal rights amongst all citizens disregarding
the sex. It specifically states Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the
United States or by any state on account of sex . The ERAs purpose was to end the legal
distinctions between men and women in terms of divorce, property, employment, and other matters.
In 1923, the amendment was introduced for the first time in Congress by the National Women s
Party and since then has brought up many conversations about men and women s equality.
During the process of trying to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment there were certain people who
were huge supporters of the amendment and others who were eager to prevent it from happening.
During the 1970 s and 1980 s, there were many different feminist groups in New Orleans, such as
the National Organization for Womenor NOW, the Independent Women s Organization or IWO,
and the Women s Liberation Coalition or WLC. NOW and IWO were categorized to be more of
the liberal groups, whereas the WLC was the more radical collective group. In 1966, feminist
Betty Friedan co founded NOW. This organization was an aspire for women, to bring them into the
mainstream of American society now [in] fully equal partnership with men. Friedan was also
homophobic. She referred to lesbians as the lavender menace , and warned NOW chapters not

Essay on Ernest Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls
In Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls, the recurring images of the horse and the airplane
illustrate one of the major themes of the novel. The novel s predominant theme is the disintegration
of the chivalric order of the Old Spanish World, as it is being replaced by the newer technology
and ideology of the modern world. As a consummate artist, Hemingway, in a manner illustrating the
gothic quality of his work, allows the bigger themes of For Whom the Bell Tolls to be echoed in
the smaller units. He employs the tropes of the horse and the airplaneto convey these larger themes,
while at the same time using them to comment upon the complex relationshipthat exists between
the Spaniards Fascists and Communists, alike and religion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They have abandoned religion, as they have become disillusioned by it, and, therefore, have no
mechanism for atonement. Stemming from their close attachment to the chivalric ideal of equality
in battles, the Spanish have absolutely no conception of modern warfare, until the planes begin
invading their land. They view war as a match of equals, wherein a lone soldier can look his
enemy in the eye as they battle, but, instead, they are forced to come to grips with the horrors of
modern warfare.
The planes are representative of the modern mechanical accomplishments that have emerged,
which can replace the chivalric, soldier of the Old World. With the emergence of such
technologies, and the influx of new ideologies, not only has the religion, once integral to
chivalry, become obsolete, but the people, too, have become dispensable. Gone forever is the
almost sacred element of one on one battles; the planes have eradicated these chivalric ideals, by
replacing them with a brand of never before seen mass destruction. In effect, the new ideologies
have become the new religion; they have replaced the Church, just as the new mechanisms, such as
planes, and mass warfare have replaced the chivalric ideals of the medieval world.
The meaning of the horse and airplane images can be illuminated through an exploration of Chapter
27, which conveys, without a doubt, their significance. One of the very first

The Main Reasons For Government And Privatize Their Airports
Week 1: Identify and discuss the main reasons for a government to privatize their airports.
In basic terms Privatisation is essentially the shift of assets from the public or government owned
sector to the private sector, an important point to note is that privatisation doesn t always refer to
ownership, but can also refer only to the management of an organisation.
The advantages of privatisation include greater efficiency and fewer limitations involved in
government spending allowances. Up until the 1990 s privatisation of airports was mainly within
the general aviation, municipal type airfields. Airports were gradually considered as commercial
enterprises , and as such commercialisation began to take place.
Supporters of privatisation argue that it will reduce the need for public investment and give
greater access to commercial markets. By doing this they are limiting government control, which
may be a benefit in itself as there will be more space for diversification. With a wide share of
ownership there can be far greater input from a range of sources. In a sense the government will
still benefit from privatisation, as even though they may have less control overall, they will still
benefit from the global market and from government associated taxes and levies not just on the
airports movements but also taxing of the airport company itself. Conversely on the side of doubt,
there is concern that privatisation may create a monopoly that could potentially be over

Overworked Americans In America
Overworked Americans What is your response when someone asks you for your opinion about
overworked Americans? Schabner states Americans work more than anyone in the industrialized
world. In other words, Schabner is saying that compared to other countries America is so high up
in the working world that a majority of our people are workaholics (Schabner Americans). Even
though some argue Americans are lazy and depend on the government, Americans are overworked
because overworking causes physical and mental damage, and the more hours a person works the

New mothers, depending on their work history and hours worked, can get from fifteen to fifty
two weeks off. Journalist Covert states that in America, They re guaranteed twelve weeks of
unpaid time off. What Covert really means is that if a mother is gone for twelve weeks, they do
not get paid the time they take off but still have their job (Bryce Workaholism). What also came
across while researching was how four to six percent of workers are overworked because their
bosses make them even if they do not want to. Carmichael notes what one employee told her
during an interview, We work long hours because our bosses tell us to. In other words,
Carmichael along with everyone who read her article noticed that even if some people did not
want to work more hours they would kind of have to in order to keep their jobs (Sarah Long).
Maybe if the workers got paid more then would not mind

Despite the possibility of negative consequences, all the cultures of the world the consumption of substances like alcohol and tobacco are sanctioned under particular circumstances. • 10. Free Throw Shooting Smart 2 Introduction: Free throw shooting is an art and skill which can affect the outcome of the game. The true definition is a stand still uncontested shot that is placed fifteen feet or four and fifty seven hundredths meters from the basketball hoop (Lowry,5/13/07). In a coach s mind free throws should be automatic, a player should rarely miss a free throw. But as the game keeps evolving, the fundamental of the free throw is being lost. There are plenty of things that go into the shot, first the routine, then the balance, after that you look at the rim or sight your goal, and finally you shoot (Timms, 10/6/08). If you are missing mechanics or balance it will throw off your shot, even changing your routine can drop your free... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A routine consists of dribbles, spins, and breaths, whatever someone s routine is it will only be effective if they repeat it (Lowry,5/13/07). If you change your routine a couple times in one season it can throw off your rhythm and drop your shot percentage. Rhythm follows routine because with the routine comes rhythm. When the shooter repeats their routine for a long period of time the natural rhythm flows into the shot and helps the percentage (McCormick, 2/10/10). Of all these three things, none of them are the most important, one must repeat all of them to be considered a good free throw shooter. Focusing during a free throw is one of the most key things you can do. With the game on the line the shooter cannot be thinking about the pressure they must think about the shot and that s it. When the crowd is yelling wildly the shooter must clear their mind and do what feels natural (Timms, 10/6/08). A free throw is shot from the same spot with no defensive pressure being the reason it is called a FREE throw (McCormick, 2/10/10). When a free throw is missed it is the mechanics, rhythm, or focus that went wrong. Coaches believe that free throws are inexcusable, even though there are plenty of things that could go wrong that is why a true shooter repeats his routine and shot form every ... • 11. IU Scholarship Essay Although a seemingly odd combination, I am double majoring in Chemistry and French at IUPUI. This is a complimentary pair for me in terms of my future endeavors, however. I aspire to attend medical school, ultimately to become a pediatric endocrinologist at Riley Hospital for Children. While some choose medicinefor the paycheck, prestige, or to simply carry on the family business, I wish to become a doctor for an entirely different reason. When I was eight years old, I was diagnosed with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), a genetic disorder that affects the body s general health, growth, and development. Devoting my career to becoming a pediatric endocrinologist is a welcomed opportunity for me to serve as a source of care and comfort for my patients and their families, as I was once in their shoes. My current plan of study at IUPUI is an excellent plan of preparation for this lofty endeavor. While majoring in Chemistry will provide the hard, scientific background required for medicine, majoring in French is the catalyst in giving me the edge to becoming a caring, compassionate future physician. • 12. Conformity In The Chocolate War The protagonist of any text is the central most character, and is the character through which we understand and interpret the plot. In many ways the plot, or theme of these two books is interlaced, all formed around a series of questions posed by students in The Wave how could a small minority of people (Nazi s) rule the majority (the German public)? The Chocolate War merely substitutes Nazi s for The Vigils, and the German public for the boys at a Catholic School. The Wave is the early phase to conformity and societal obedience, whereas in The Chocolate War, the cycle of fear, pressure and obedience is thoroughly entrenched within the system at all levels. Heirloom Swot Analysis Essay An Analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats in Opening an Heirloom Seed Supply Online Americans are showing a greater interest in living healthier lifestyles; eating cleaner has become a growing part of our culture. As this culture grows, so too does the need for businesses that supply ingredients to support the trend (Essen Englander, 2013). In recent studies, it has been found that genetically modified foods are not as preferred as the more natural versions from before mankind endeavored to make structural changes to raw products (Bawa Anilakumar, 2012). One of the most difficult aspects of changing one s lifestyle to eliminate GMOs is finding said foods in a natural state. This speaks to a need for supplying... Threats: Chain Retail (Whole Foods) Competition Potential Limited Suppliers Economy Fluctuations After evaluating this analysis, it will be easier to determine if the negative aspects of starting such a venture significantly outweigh any positives. Possibly the easiest of the four quadrants of the SWOT Analysis to determine are the strengths. Strengths The strengths of running an heirloom seed business from home: easy inventory storage; no employee issues or costs; no need to wear a uniform or leave the house; and no true schedule. Unlike many businesses that sell physical products, whether it s internet sales or in store, seeds take up very little space. One could easily sell many varieties with nothing more than a garage to store the inventory! A preferred method would be to have a separate room, climate controlled, with shelves to hold bins of inventory. Unlike selling t shirts or gadgets, seeds could have months of inventory on hand in one converted guest bedroom. Operating in this fashion would negate the need to hire employees. Having a traditional business in a store often requires hiring people to assist in the running of it. With no employees, there is no need for a human relations department, overtime pay, extra insurance costs, or salaries. Although the majority promotes the NPSG, few consistently look after the staffing needs. Nickitas, Middaugh, and Aries (2016) attested to the studies confirming fatigue and long hours of work attribute to inattention that leads to medical errors. • 15. Analysis Of The New York Times By David Brooks Essay Argumentative Essay on Supporting Our Students In an article by The New York Times, by David Brooks, called, Support Our students. Brooks explains that instead of free college, maybe they should help college students with everyday needs. He said that college is already free for the working class and underpaid. (Brooks) He doesn t believe that making community college free will help anymore with the debt, then it did before. In sum, I will discuss the argument that David Brooks portrays and explain why I agree with it. I will talk about three main points from Brooks article and discuss what it s like in other countries that do have free college. In David Brooks article, he mentions that students actually have free college at their disposal. By using pell grants and scholarships, he believes that we re set. I don t disagree. In my experience, my scholarship and my pell grant both pay for my school. However, I must have one scholarship to receive the other and as a student that comes from a poor household, my pell grant covers all of my college expenses aside from my books. He said it s more beneficial if instead of making college free, that they should help the students. (Brooks) Such as living expenses, book fees, and transportation.(Brooks) He mentions how most students have jobs, full or part time. I chose this career due to my passionate interest in wildlife and my personal character. I have not chosen what career branch I would like to partake in because of the numerous options. But that requires additional research that will be sought out during the upcoming years of college. A Zoologist is a person who studies wildlife, the habitat of wildlife and how animals adapt to it. In addition, they also study the behavior of animals, animal characteristics, and how they react to human activity. The purpose of a Zoologist is to experiment, researchand study animals. Majority of those skills I possess but could continue to improve on. The profession appeals to me because of my love for animals mostly. Magical realism allows magical elements to be inserted into a text to make it more interesting and appealing to the reader. MГЎrquez uses setting to portray those magical elements like foreshadowing, abuse of power, and the concept of mutual respect through magical realism. The first example of magical realism is when Santiago foreshadows his death through a dream. Characteristics Of The Frontal Lobe The frontal lobe is directly at the front part of the brain and this particular lobe controls the thinking process, language, planning, making decisions, and also controls your behavior as well as your emotions. There are three main sections of the frontal lobe which is the prefrontal cortex, the premotor area, and the motor area. The most important function of the frontal lobeis that it contains the motor cortex. The motor cortex has cells that control the movements of our body s voluntary muscles and sends commands to the PNS (Peripheral Nervous System). The prefrontal cortex job is for high cognitive thinking and also plays a factor when it comes to your personality. The premotor area is known for helping the body move by integrating sensory information and controlling the muscles that are closest to the body s main axis. The left frontal lobe side of the brain develops the process of speech and language known as the Broca s area. In the event that damage takes place to the Broca s Area, it will cause a person to have speech difficulties and their brain will be able to process the information yet the patient will still have difficulties when it comes to speech. Current responses For the purposes of this research chapter I shall be exploring youth works response to the issue of alcohol consumption among young people today. According to the Youth Work Act 2001; Youth work means a planned programme of education designed for the purpose of aiding and enhancing the personal and social development of young persons through their voluntary participation, and which is (a) Complementary to their formal, academic or vocational education and training; and (b) Provided primarily by voluntary youth work organisations. Youth workers achieve this by creating circumstances which enable young people to feel comfortable with themselves, make and sustain personal relationships, reach their potential and find their place in society. Due to the nature of their work, youth workers form close relationships with the young people they engage with. These relationships are central to the youth work process. It is essentially a partnership, which allows the young people space to express themselves and provides an opportunity for learning which they may otherwise ignore. By utilising this relationship youth workers can offer essential support to the young people during the crucial stages of their development by befriending them, listening to them and advocating on their behalf. The importance of this relationship does not change when working with young people around issues such as alcohol. In fact, in many ways it actually benefits the facilitation of the ... • 26. Characteristics Of African American Culture In this essay, I will use RESOURCES provided to me to form and informed opinion on how to explain how African American culture took parts from both African and European culture to form its modern association. While African American culture grabs influences from African and European culture, the foundation as well as a significant portion of practices and behaviors can be found in African culture. Many slaves help on tightly to their African heritage, while a slave culture sought invisibility through assimilating into American culture. These major influences helped shape modern African American culture. Over the course of 200 plus years, African and European influences mixed, intermingled and created a hybrid we know as African American culture. The culture we recognize today takes influences from original African culture, and European culture that was seen during the early construction of American society. One trait we can see that has made its way into modern culture is the concept of the cool pose ; in which African American men portray themselves as closed off and more less free of emotion. As we can see through AUTHOR S research, this is a trait originated from Nigerian emperors for whom coolness was a determination and symbol of status. The cool attitude presented confidence and a level headed mind to their people under them. To build upon this initial concept, black masking and black acting were both practices of hiding one s stereotypical ethnic identity behavioral patterns; the thought was that by behaving a certain way would give African Americans a sense of shelter. Other examples we can see, or rather hear, more plainly, for example may be found in music. African Americanculture is tied closely to the jazz genre, known for high action movement and rhythm, and the blues genre which is associated with an emphasis on feeling and emotion, both of which are strong feature of African culture. From the time the first boat carrying African slaves arrived in North America, there was an already established one hundred year long history of using black people as slaves, because of this it was not a far leap for the white settlers of the Virginia colony to prefer black slaves over the white indentured ... That would involve confessing he was torn up over the fact he d banished Guinevere, and his heart bled with misery over missing her. Arthur had experienced battle many times and faced terrifying foes. But the soul shredding pain of losing Guinevere hurt the most. Though Arthur trusted Percival more than most of his knights, the king would not divulge his innermost feelings to the man. Arthur would find Guinevere without help. The different type of commercial buildings were wikalas, khans, qaisariyas, suqs, and funduqs. Ismail explains that these type of buildings existed since the Mameluke Empire period, but they were kept being built during the Ottoman Empire, with some minor changes. The wikalas were buildings located within the city walls and had a design that had shops on the ground floor that faced onto courtyards and a rab system (living quarters) on the upper floors. Some of the shops from the ground level had special designs in their facades that allowed the merchants to display the imported goods that they had for sale. The building had only one entrance per each facade, and each of them led to the open central courtyard that aside from shops, had storerooms for the merchant s goods. To get access to the upper floors, people had to use staircases that were usually placed in a corner of the facades (Ismail 2005). The khans and funduqs were buildings that had combined functions of hostel and trading centre and were used mostly by traveling merchants and visitors to the city. You can t just judge people by what they portray since the Germans were forcing people into their army, therefore the soldiers might have not wanted to harm the Jews. After reading Anne Franks diary, watching the movie, reading the play, and researching the Holocaust I agree with Anne Frank s statement. • 49. Essay on Ernest Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls In Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls, the recurring images of the horse and the airplane illustrate one of the major themes of the novel. The novel s predominant theme is the disintegration of the chivalric order of the Old Spanish World, as it is being replaced by the newer technology and ideology of the modern world. As a consummate artist, Hemingway, in a manner illustrating the gothic quality of his work, allows the bigger themes of For Whom the Bell Tolls to be echoed in the smaller units. He employs the tropes of the horse and the airplaneto convey these larger themes, while at the same time using them to comment upon the complex relationshipthat exists between the Spaniards Fascists and Communists, alike and religion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They have abandoned religion, as they have become disillusioned by it, and, therefore, have no mechanism for atonement. Stemming from their close attachment to the chivalric ideal of equality in battles, the Spanish have absolutely no conception of modern warfare, until the planes begin invading their land. They view war as a match of equals, wherein a lone soldier can look his enemy in the eye as they battle, but, instead, they are forced to come to grips with the horrors of modern warfare. The planes are representative of the modern mechanical accomplishments that have emerged, which can replace the chivalric, soldier of the Old World. With the emergence of such technologies, and the influx of new ideologies, not only has the religion, once integral to chivalry, become obsolete, but the people, too, have become dispensable. Gone forever is the almost sacred element of one on one battles; the planes have eradicated these chivalric ideals, by replacing them with a brand of never before seen mass destruction. In effect, the new ideologies have become the new religion; they have replaced the Church, just as the new mechanisms, such as planes, and mass warfare have replaced the chivalric ideals of the medieval world. The meaning of the horse and airplane images can be illuminated through an exploration of Chapter 27, which conveys, without a doubt, their significance. One of the very first ... • 50. The Main Reasons For Government And Privatize Their Airports Week 1: Identify and discuss the main reasons for a government to privatize their airports. In basic terms Privatisation is essentially the shift of assets from the public or government owned sector to the private sector, an important point to note is that privatisation doesn t always refer to ownership, but can also refer only to the management of an organisation. The advantages of privatisation include greater efficiency and fewer limitations involved in government spending allowances. Up until the 1990 s privatisation of airports was mainly within the general aviation, municipal type airfields. Airports were gradually considered as commercial enterprises , and as such commercialisation began to take place. Supporters of privatisation argue that it will reduce the need for public investment and give greater access to commercial markets. By doing this they are limiting government control, which may be a benefit in itself as there will be more space for diversification. With a wide share of ownership there can be far greater input from a range of sources. In a sense the government will still benefit from privatisation, as even though they may have less control overall, they will still benefit from the global market and from government associated taxes and levies not just on the airports movements but also taxing of the airport company itself. Conversely on the side of doubt, there is concern that privatisation may create a monopoly that could potentially be over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
