A Rhetorical Analysis Of Pope Urban II
Pope Urban II delivers a touching an inspiring speech that is meant to highlight the importance of
trusting in God in one attempt to overcome their challenges. The pope delivers the message at a
time when there is turmoil and the country had been subjected to chaos to misunderstanding by the
kings and rulers at the time. In his speech the religious leader employs a prayer in their attempt to
convince their followers to embark of the dangerous journey and rescue what belongs to them based
on the motivation of bible scriptures.
One motivation that the pope uses in luring Christians into the idea of fighting in the holy land is
based in the fact that God has given them power unlike other nations to defeat their enemies (Jan).
In his speech, Urban II also mentions their uniqueness in the ability to possess courage, and
humility means that their God favors them and they do not need to worry as they plan to tackle and
overcome the enemy in war. In the motivational speech, the pope further reminds the city members
that they need to be aware that God is with them and they should not worry in the battle (Jan). ...

Urban II states that it is written in the holy books that if they forsake their earthly materials and
relatives for the name of their God, they will be blessed abundantly. He asserts that Christians
need to learn to forego all belongings including those that they treasure dearly in their loves
especially when he refers to leaving family members for the glory of God s name. In concluding
his remarks, the Pope states that the word of God not only needs Christies to forego their
belongings but they also have to realize that their bodies are worthless too and they should murder
and devour each other for the name of God

Norman, Oklahoma
In the 1870 s, the Unassigned Lands in the part of the Oklahoma Territory that would become
Norman, Oklahoma was a sight to behold. Just north of the North Canadian River, which is the
main tributary of the Canadian River, which in turn is the largest tributary of the Arkansas
River, Abner Ernest Norman led his federal surveying crew to what would develop into the town
bearing his namesake. Norman, a 23 year old surveyor from Kentucky, was hired to oversee part
of this project. Norman s work crew set up camp near what is today the corner of Classen and
Lindsey streets; it was there that the men, perhaps jokingly, carved a sign on an elm tree that read
Norman s Camp, in honor of their young boss. (Mills) In 1866, the United States signed... Show

Whether it is through the contributions made to the economy through the training and
advancement of technology at the University of Oklahoma, or through Norman s consistent
acceptance and pursuance of new business throughout its 189 square miles, the city is consistent
in its pursuit of both growth and excellence. Norman hosts large festivals throughout the year,
including the Norman Music Festival, the Medieval Fair, Jazz in June, and 89er s Day Festival.
These festivals all bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars to the city of Norman and its
businesses, plus they help to increase the popularity of tourism in not only Norman, but also across
Oklahoma. Norman is an amazing town. The people are some of the most friendly as anywhere
that can be found in the state of Oklahoma. The consistent pursuit of excellence in business and in
education stand as an example to the rest of the state. Also, Norman is home to the University of
Oklahoma, the school that is tied for third most college football national championships in all of the
United States. As they say in Norman, BOOMER

The Use of Birds in Chronical of a Death Foretold by...
In the novel, Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, birds are used as motifs
intentionally in the imagery of scenes to convey sentiments, ideas and messages to the reader. Some
of the roles taken by the symbolism of birds include indicating signs of the future and afterlife,
supporting character portrayal and development throughout the text. The symbolism of birds is
discussed in the essay because the recurring images of birds have a pertinent significance to the
novella.
In literature, birds are commonly viewed as signs of freedom while in flight, yet while they are
entrapped in cages, they symbolize the struggle for freedom. Gabriel Garcia s usage of birds has
both common and uncommon roles in the novel. The birds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Santiago seemed happy with his father until the latter died suddenly, three years before,
(Marquez 7). In this sense, the dream about floating through a grove of timber trees where a
gentle drizzle was falling, [...] but [...] he awoke [...] spattered with bird shit, (Marquez 3) ties
into Santiago s life. The birds hold significance in this passage in the metaphor comparing bird
shit to life ruining events. The reader learns more about Santiago when the narrator reveals that
Nasar gained the good arts of valor and prudence (7) from his father and is a merry, peaceful, and
openhearted (8) individual. Furthermore, Santiago is an aggressive wealthy individual that is
compared to a sparrow hawk [...] just like his father, nipping the bud of any wayward virgin who
began showing up in those woods, (90). In the text, falcons are associated with entertainment and
displaying one s status of wealth, and the opening quote by Gil Vicente, the pursuit of love is like
falconry (1) compares the persistent nature of pursuing love to the recreational activity of hunting
with falcons.
Subsequently, the reader becomes aware of Santiago s innocence and naivety. Nahir Miguel
reveals to the narrator that Santiago looked like a little wet bird, (114). Because Marquez
specifically chose a bird as the animal for this image, the birds must hold a certain importance to the

Descriptive Of The Starry Night
The Starry Night is one of the most famous paintings in the history of western culture. It was
painted by Vincent Van Gogh in 1889 and is recognized as his finest work. This artwork is oil on
canvas and is currently in the Museum of Modern Art, New York. An interesting fact about the
artwork is that it is painted from Van Gogh s memory, unlike his other works which are painted
outdoor. This painting is the view from the east facing window of his asylum room at Saint Reme
de Provence. The view includes the starry sky, cypress tree, village, and hills. This morning I saw
the countryside from my window a long time before sunrise, with nothing but the morning star,
which looked very big. wrote Van Gogh.
The first thing I notice in The Starry Night is the sky in the background because it stands out the
most. There are many shining stars, the big bright crescent moon and wind swirls painted
throughout the blue sky using contrasting colours like orange, yellow and white. Through the
swirling wind, thick curve lines are flowing across the sky to form this spiral like formation.
Eleven yellow stars which look like huge fireballs lighten the whole art piece by contrasting
with the cool blue, dark night sky that contains a variety of shades of blue and grey. There is
also the crescent moon at the top right hand corner that is bigger and emits an even brighter light
compared to the rest of the stars. Next, I notice the giant cypress tree on the left side because of
how its proportion is a lot bigger than everything else in the rest of the painting. It blocks out part
of the sky and the village located at the bottom. The village houses are tiny and painted in the
shade. It is compact and is close to the hills and its surrounding objects which makes the houses
blend in and become unnoticeable.
Many elements and principles are portrayed in this art piece. To begin with, the first thing I see
and grabs my attention is the swirling wind. Rhythm and Movement can be seen and it creates a
flow to the rest of the painting in which leads your eyes to follow along the path of the swirl and
brings you to the next subject. It allowed me to view the art piece up to down and left to right, as I
started from the swirl to the stars

Plato And The Crito
1. The Crito draws a fine line between preserving one s integrity and maintaining one s image.
According to Plato, an Ancient Greek philosopher, The other considerations which you mention of
money and loss of character and the duty of educating one s children are, I fear, only the doctrines
of the multitude, who, if they could, would restore people to life as readily as they put them to
death and with as little reason (67). One of Platos main assertions is that emotions and priorities
are bound to fluctuate over time, therefore an emotional decision is not necessarily always the
correct decision. Logic based decisions are able to preserve one s morals and integrity, regardless
of what public opinion is; public opinion can fluctuate but

Hope In The Metamorphosis
In Franz Kafka s novella The Metamorphosis , Gregor Samsa is a travelling salesman who has
been turned into a monstrous vermin overnight. The story follows the events that happen after this
transformation, such as how the different family members treat Gregor. At the end of the book
Gregor dies, and the novella concludes with the family future plans after Gregor s death. After
reading the novella, I think that looking at the ending of of the novella, the readers are definitely
left with a sense of hope because the future prospects of the family are very promising, and the
family also has a clear future for their daughter. To begin, when the family discusses about their
future, it can be seen that there is hope for a chance in receiving stable... Show more content on

Grete was always regarded as too young and immature to be of help before Gregor s
transformation, probably because Gregor had been the main supporter of the family. Due to
Gregor s metamorphosis, however, Grete was given responsibility of things that the rest of the
family didn t want to do, such as giving Gregor food, and also had to work at a job in order to
further support the family. Therefore, after Gregor s death, the parents finally realise the maturity
and responsibility that Grete possesses, and thinks about how their daughter was blossoming into
a well built and beautiful young lady... they agreed that it would soon be time to find a good man
for her (page 44). With a fresh new start and a daughter who has lots of potential, it is not unclear
that the parents are gaining confidence in their new post Gregor s death life. Being recognised by
her parents, Grete has also found confidence and as the book has, was the first to get up and stretch
out her young body when leaving the tram they were on. With all these positive changes being
noticed, I think it is beyond argument that there is hope that is lingering around, not only in the
novella, but also around the

Hewlett Packard just like Kerzner Office Equipment faced a severe financial crisis resulting massive
job cuts. The job cuts had a tremendous impact on employee morale where Hewlett Packard
established better communication with employees by adopting MBWA method. But Amber Briggs,
the human resource specialist did not establish a face to face interaction. Amber Briggs should have
gone to meet the assigned employees to build a network and cooperation with them. Thus, Amber
Briggs could have gained more support in the first meeting. Like Southwest Airlines, Kerzner s new
CEO Justin Tubbs wanted to build better relationship with employees. Unlike Kerzner, Southwest
even during tough external market maintained high integrity and cooperation with employees.
Amber Brigs like Southwest should adopt personal related currencies that can help others feel a

Effects And Effects Of Acid Rain And Its Effects
Acid Rain: its Effect
Acid rain refers to precipitation that is more acidic (having lower pH levels) than average. In more
detail, acid rain is a type of precipitation that has mixtures of wet and dry materials coming from the
atmosphere, which includes more nitric and sulfuric acids (Conserve Energy Future: AcidRain).
Acid rain can also be written as Acid Deposition because the acid rain could come down as other
precipitation, for instance, snow. This became a worldwide problem due to the effects it can have
on land, aquatic ecosystems, buildings, vegetation and more. The acidity of the acid rain will
distort the pH levels and break down elements to harm whatever this type of precipitation touches.
First things first, what is a pH level? The pH level is short for potential hydrogen, and the level
is used to find the acidity of an aqueous solution. The scale goes from zero to fourteen, and seven
being the most neutral level in the scale. Do not think that the drop from seven to six could be
overlooked at. The higher the level (over level 7), it contains more oxygen, and more alkaline it is.
Lower the level (below level 7), it becomes more acidic and contains less oxygen. Do not think
that dropping one level in the pH scale won t make a big difference, ...the pH scale is a
logarithmic measure. This means that every pH change of one is a tenfold change in acid content.
( The Environment: Acid Rain ). Rain, for instance, should be around 5.3 to 6.0 pH level of acidity,

Australi The Biggest Country
Australia is the sixth largest country, and the largest island continent in the world, and full of an
abundance of natural resources. Geographically Australia is about the same size as the lower 48
United States, however the population is less than the size of Los Angeles at 23.6 million. The
majority of the population is therefore grouped into the capital cities Sydney in New South Wales,
Melbourne in Victoria, Adelaide in South Australia, Brisbane in Queensland, Darwin in Northern
Territory, and Perth in Western Australia, Canberra in Australian Capital Territory
. While Australia
may be small in population, they also have a level of consumerism that equals the US, UK and
other first world countries. The amount of natural resources in Australia is astounding and with the
population grouped around the country its works to allow the country to utilize them as much as
possible. For Australia being such a large country with many natural resources, the use of their
mining industry has helped improve the economy and helped develop a stronger country.
Over the past years, Australia has gone through many changes associated with their economy. In
1996, Australia was in a period of recession, but began to have economic growth in the years of
1997 through to the early 2000s. This growth was due to the weakening of the Australia dollar
causing an increase in market shares for Australia exports. With the help of the decrease in prices
of exports for foreign buyers, in return

The Coolest Guy On The Golf Course
How to be The Coolest Guy on The Golf Course Golf is not only a skill desired by some, but also a
lifestyle acquired by others. Golf is the motion of swinging a club back and forth, and hitting a
ball, with the goal of making it in a small cup several hundred yards away. Yes that is golf, but it is
so much more. Golfis a lifestyle, that most men over the age of 60 live, and keeps them away
from their wife for the most part of the day. However, other than hiding from wives, golf is a
skill most people should learn, as business transactions and weekends with the boss often occur
on a golf course. Therefore, it is important to not only know how to play golf, but it is also a
necessity to learn the lifestyle of country clubs in order to be the coolest guy on the golf course.

Genocide In South Africa
While the ecumenical church was focused on preventing a post World War apocalypse, they were
neglecting a cultural genocide in South Africa. From 1948 through 1994, a legal division of white
and blacks took place. Apartheid, literally meaning a state of being apart , was racial segregation
instituted by the National Party that kept a minority white population in power over the
predominant black indigenous population.
This all originated during the Transatlantic Slave Trade during the seventeenth and eighteenth
centuries. The West Indies Company, a subsidiary of the Netherlands (the Dutch Reformed Church

apartheid state. The Kairos Document, a critique of state theology, pronounced in 1985 that the day

Loyalty In Antigone By Sophocles
In Antigone, Sophocles introduces the struggle between loyalty to civil law versus familial loyalty
and divine law, which is a central conflict in the play. Antigone has a firm belief in upholding
family values and honoring the gods and deceased by burying her brother. In contrast, Creon wants
to do what is best for the city which is, in his opinion, forbidding the burial of Polynices. Both
Antigoneand Creonbelieve that their point of view is more important, and neither is willing to
change perspective, causing the chain of destructive events in the plot. Loyalty causes the deadly
dispute between Antigone and Creon because of their conflicting perspectives about precedence.
Antigone has the strong belief that loyalty to the dead and to the gods has precedence over all
other opinions, specifically those of Creon. Antigone does not at all care that the one with all
governing power has the most disagreement with her decision to remain devoted to her family
below. Since I must please those below a longer time than the people here, for I shall lie there
forever (Sophocles16). She knows and understands that time in the mortal world has a limit,
however time in the underworld is eternal. Pleasing Creon and his belief to only stay true to civil
laws are of no concern to Antigone, for all she wants is to please her family below and the gods
above. An example of this is the burial of Polynices, because while it is right in Antigone s eyes,
Creon believes it is foolish and a sin

Influence of the Roman Theater on Cicero’s Oration Pro...
Influence of the Roman Theater on Cicero s Oration Pro Caelia By
Cicero s oration in defense of M. Caelius Rufus shows many substantive and stylistic borrowings
from the Roman Theater, particularly the comedies of the 2nd century b.c.e. This would scarcely
seem remarkable to Cicero, to employ such devices is only to make use of the tools of his trade,
as a practical and practicing rhetorician. In this case using the theater as a framing device to guide
his audience s response.
So too would the judgments and emotions existing in the cultural reservoir of Greco Roman, or
Attic Latin stage have met his division of purpose as he considered the permanent written speech,
he would set down in the wake of the trial, however it was decided. ... Show more content on

Cicero, by example of his own life takes a broad inclusive approach to Oratory. In a earlier
statement we encounter words which probably reflect his own view closely: But the fact of the
matter is that oratory is a much more considerable activity and depends on a far wider range of
different arts and branches of study, than people imagine (Cicero, Orator I 4,16).Particularly
Cicero seems interested in holding on to the orator s special sphere the third branch of Philosophy
life and behavior of human beings which is to say, human nature (Cicero, Orator I 15, 69).
We hear of the orator s special strength to rouse men s hearts to anger, hatred, and indignation
(Cicero, Orator I 12,53), a not dissimilar goal to that of the dramatist. We find that a speaker s job
is to ensure that the feelings of his audience are affected just the way he wants them to be (19,
87). His Five Tasks of the orator (and to keep within the dignity of the theme) (Cicero, Orator I
38, 142 44) given in a following paragraph, are suitable instructions for any playwright or actor.

the benefits to be gained from the less serious art on regulation of expression, voice and movement
of body. Cicero has his character Antonius make an observation that the chief distinction between
an actor speaking and an orator is that the actor has more leeway. He is excused if he has

The Dead By Rupert Brooke
Rupert Brooke was the author of a set of five war poems titled The Dead. Brooke reflects his
idealistic views on death during war in those poems. Since Brooke never experienced what war
was actually like, the death described is glorified and the poems become elegy s. His fourth sonnet,
The Dead (VI), is a sonnetconsisting of an octet and sestet. Unlike a typical sonnet, Brooke does
not use a problem and solution structure in his poem. Instead, Brooke describes the lives of the
pure hearts in the war in the octet and describes their death in the sestet. A volta is seen at the end
of the octet as the poem is translated into the sestet. The rhymescheme of the poem begins with that

Their death was not in vain and they died with honor. The octet and sestet used in Brooke s
poems do not withhold the typical characteristics of a sonnet, Traditionally, one main thought or
problem is set out in the octave and brought to a resolution in the sestet (Eberhart). This is
because the poem serves a different purpose. Rather than providing a solution to a problem, the
speaker provides a view into the lives of the soldiers and how they had joy and proceeds to the
sestet to provide an image of the soldier dying in unbroken glory . The sonnet is structured this
way because it aids the reader in understanding that the death of the soldiers is glorious. Between
the Octet and the sestet, there is a volta or shift. The volta aids the poem to transition from the
description of the lives of the soldiers to the image of the glorious death of the soldiers. In doing
so, the diction of nature changes from the octet and sestet. The poem transitions seasons from
spring to winter. The volta lies on the last line of the octet, All this is ended. (l. 8). Previously,
the speaker in the octet described the lives of soldiers and stated that they were filled with
different emotions. In the last line of the octet, the speaker simply ended the description. The volta
leads the reader to an abrupt shift from the life of the soldiers before war to their idealistic death in
the sestet. In the octet, the diction used to describe the lives of the soldiers consists of

celebrated because Christopher Columbusis not worthy of being commemorated.
Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa,Italy in 1451. He had three brothers and one sister
along with a dad named Dominico and mom named Susanna. He left his father s wool weaving
business to join the Genoese Fleet to sail the Mediterranean Sea. During one of adventures his ship
crashed in Portugal but decided to stay there with his little brother and then began working with a
mapmaker. In the 15th century Portugal desperately needed to find a faster route to Asia so they
can have better trading. Columbus then decided he should be the one to find that new route, but
with all the rumors on which direction is fastest he thought he found Asia but it was actually
America.
In August of 1942 Columbus and his men sailed the ships of The Nina, The Pinta, and The Santa
Maria. The first of four trips traveled from Spain all across the Atlantic Ocean. On October 12th he
spotted and landed an island in the name of San Salvador but the natives called

Football Informative Essay
Injury plague in the NFL catalyst for greater innovation
The game of football is still in its infancy. The invention of the forward pass and its official
adoption in 1906 is proof positive that fundamentally the game has room to advance. By all
accounts, the forward pass was the invention that saved the game of football after a great rugby
player from Yale in the 1880s, Walter Camp, pioneered rules changes that slowly transformed rugby
into the new game of American Football. Birth of Pro Football
Player safety has been the catalyst for football evolution. A fact currently supported by the NFL s

@nflcommish gets booed often but, in my opinion, he was right to legislate the violent hits out of
the NFL.
The wave of change has now begun and history seems to be repeating itself. Former NFL players
settled a 1 billion dollar lawsuit that accused the NFL of hiding the risks of repeated concussions
in order to return players to the field. The deal avoids the need for a trial and means the NFL
might never have to disclose what it knew, and when.
Safety innovation remarkable influence on the NFL s killer past
The precedent for this next wave of innovation was set by events that triggered the forward pass

offenses, protests came from men in high places...even President Theodore

Lagos And Nigeri Nigeria
Lagos, Nigeria
Africa s most populated nation has more than 150 million people and within this nation resides
Lagos with a population of more than 20 million people. Lagos, Nigeria is the capital, nation s
biggest urban agglomeration, and is the third largest, most populated city in the world. Since early
times, Lagos has grown through rural urban migration. Lagos started off as a small farming and
fishing settlement on an island close to the coast. In 1472 the Portuguese arrived on the land and
gave it its name as well as its known role in the slave trade in the 17th century. Then in 1861 the
British took over Lagos and claimed it as their own. In 1914 after the Protectorate of Nigeria was

Due to the fast pace of urbanization and population growth in urban centers, the pace and growth
rate have outstripped the carrying capacity and resources being used to maintain public health
standards, environmental conditions, sanitation, and sustainable economic growth. (Adedeji, 2005)
Urbanization is a growing global issue and its impact is inevitable in Nigeria. Due to the many
challenges posed by the diverse problems associated with urbanization, the need for sustainable
development in Nigeria is immediately required especially from the government and developers
who are responsible for urban growth. The right policies and incentives need to be put in place if
we are to have any hope in preserving the existing cities and surrounding environments of these
flourishing urban centers not only for the well being of inhabitants, both physically and
economically, but also for the future survival of Lagos. Urbanization is defined as the ability of
urban areas and their immediate regions to be able to function at levels currently obtained and to
maintain the quality of life residents have without reducing options available to them in the current
or future generations. Urbanization is a process of human agglomeration in multi functional
settlement of relatively substantial size. (Mabogunje, 1985) This process is the key initiator for the
transformation of cities, towns, and metropolitan areas

Should Avalon Join The European Union
According to neoliberal institutionalists, Avalon should join the European Union because overall,
they will benefit. Reciprocity will help maintain peace within the European Union since states that
are working together are more likely to cooperate because interdependence. Also, being in the
European Union will give Avalon the chance to expand their economy beyond what it is now, by
opening up trade and industrial opportunities, while using the same type of currency, the euro. They
will also have more security because they will be a part of a group of countries with common
interests and this will lower the amount of conflict between the nations because and collective
security. When considering joining the European Union, countries think about how they will
benefit and one way they can benefit, is through the economy. First of all, there is a common
currency, the euro. This makes moving from country to country easier, as well as giving nations in
the European Union a feeling of unity. Europeans can move freely within Europe and do not have
to worry about exchanging currency. Having the euro is also beneficial because it eliminates trade
barriers, by having the same currency, it will be easier to trade. There will be no need for
conversions when trading throughout the European Union. Also, the free tradearea is beneficial...

Compare And Contrast John Brown And Timothy Mcveigh
Timothy McVeigh committed the most deadly act of domestic terrorism in United States history.
His actions resulted in both outrage and fascination, and lead to significant inquiry into why he did
what he did. Many at the time, already scared by the rising trends of Jihadist terrorism felt that
McVeigh s actions were in large part something new, something atypical to the American
experience. However, such was not the case. Terrorismhas been prevalent throughout American
history and tied to various trends and movements, including abolitionism. Ultimately John Brown
and Timothy McVeighhave striking similarities, such as the presence of their action outside of the
more established and organized groups of their respective movements and the media... Show more

Although he did not get to see it in his lifetime, John Brown s polarizing effect on the North and
South helped encourage the outbreak of the Civil War, which would determine once and for all
the fate of slavery. This, however, is not the case when it comes to McVeigh. When the Oklahoma
City bombing is discussed, ideas regarding McVeigh s views were much more likely to be pushed
to the side. Some of this could potentially be a result of attempts of people who could be potentially
associated with McVeigh and his ideals (whether they be right wingers, verterans, etc.) to distance
themselves from the event. This is perhaps best shown through examples of veterans insisting upon
the wretchedness of McVeigh s actions. Such a distancing attempt, however, was also visible during
John Brown s time. As mentioned in Thoreau s piece, many contemporary abolitionists attempted to
distance themselves and their abolition movement from John Brown. Thus, the distance must result
from a different cause. This cause is most likely the media. Although both John Brown and
Timothy McVeigh had their actions highly publicized, only John Brown s was done so in the
context of the largest movement on people s minds at the time: abolitionism. Although right wing
terror certainly was a fear for a short few, it was not what Americans were

Scapegoats In Breaker Morant
Breaker Morant is a true story in the 1900s about the British and the Australian Armies joined to
fight the Boer War. The overall impression from the film was how unjustly some men are
persecuted in order for others to save face and honor. The politics in the movie seem like the
same politics we have today. These three Australian soldiers followed the orders of their
superiors as any soldier should and then were tried in court as criminals for the ordered killings
they performed. Like many soldiers, they were honorable men just trying to do their job and
return home safely to their loved ones but, as said in the movie, the empire needed scapegoats.
They were the scapegoats. This was unsettling because of how true this attitude still holds true
today. There have been many scapegoats in today s Iraq and Afghanistan wars that the media has
completely blown out of proportion. The biggest example that comes to mind are the soldiers in
Abu Ghraib. Even though it s been over 110 years since these events it seems that governments are
still making the same mistakes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

incriminate the same soldier for carrying out that same mission. The appearance of due process to
kill these soldiers is a fictitious sham in order to murder them to make them scapegoats. It is

The Technology of Cash Flows Essay
In today s economy, cash is often considered to be king. This rings true for consumers and
companies alike. The flows of a company s cash are summarized on a company s statement of
cash flows (Gibson, 2011). The cash flow statement provides information regarding the
effectiveness of company management in operating the business, how the company s money is
derived, and the way funds are being spent (Megan, Hategan, Caciuc, Cotlet, 2009). A company s
management uses the statement of cash flows to assist with budgeting as it can predict cash flows
in the future (Megan et al., 2009). Additionally, investors use it to assess the financial health of a
company (Gibson, 2011; Megan et al., 2009). Technology companies have experienced... Show

The significant competition requires continued efforts in innovation and investments in new
technologies, products and services (Google, 2014). To keep up with the rapid growth, it maintains
a large staff of more than 47,000 (as of the end of 2013) with 39% of its employees in research and
development and 32.1% in sales and marketing (Google, 2014).
Ultimately, companies are in the business to make money. To do this, they trade goods or
services for cash, credit, or other goods and/or services of comparable value (bartering).
Although some businesses rely more heavily on cash transactions, businesses would be unable to
remain a going concern without long run cash inflows exceeding outflows (Megan et al., 2009).
Essentially, the statement of cash flows bridges the gap between accruals and cash flows and
allows for the quality of earnings to be evaluated (Ohlson Aier, 2009). It accomplishes this task by
making adjustments to the net income figure from the income statement to add back non cash
related transactions (Gibson, 2011; Megan et al., 2009). As noted by Ohlson and Aier (2009),
cash in a literal sense must have been exchanged for it to have an effect on the statement of cash
flows (p. 1093). Therefore, expenses such as depreciation and amortization that do not involve the
use of cash are added

Example Of Nonverbal Communication
COM1211N1 NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION ASSIGNMENT
Analysis of Nonverbal Communication Nonverbal communication can range from gestures, facial
expressions, and other behaviors that are attempting to send a message to another person without
using words to communicate. With several forms of nonverbal communication, there is an attached
message with the behaviors, though they can have different meanings to different people. The
message being sent along with the nonverbal behaviors can also be directly noticed and understood
by the other person in the conversation, or can be completely misunderstood or unnoticed. While
examining the characteristics and behaviors of nonverbal gestures, we can unravel the message
being relayed within communication. I had identified two couples each on a date at Panino s
restaurant, finding individual characteristics of nonverbal communication, as one couple had been in
a disagreement and one couple had a more romantic evening together. Though during the
observation of each interaction, I had noticed contradistinction between the way the two couples
communicated using non verbally, movement and gesture, and facial display messages.
Signs of Nonverbal Communication: Expressing Emotions The couple who had been in a
disagreement at the restaurant had many interactions of verbal and nonverbal conversations. The
verbal messages being sent from the lady to the gentlemen were that he had sent another lady

Benefits Of Mobile Edge Computing In Mobile Edge Computing
Introduction:
This report will talk about Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) within the Radio Access Network
(RAN). Although not a new concept, this report will explore why MEC is relevant for network
applications and how it can be used to cope with the increasing demand of computing power from
the cloud. It will also explore the potential application scenarios and the benefits it can bring in our
everyday life.
Mobile Edge Computing Background Information:
The number of smart devices connected to the internet is expected to increase significantly over the
next decade. Thus, data generated by these smart devices sent to the remote cloud will also increase
significantly. The European Commission predicts that there will be 50 to 100 billion smart... Show

MEC is also relevant in the implementation of 5G networks. The benefits that MEC will bring into
the evolution of 5G networks are listed below:
Compute intensive applications executed at the network edge will help optimize mobile
resources [3]
Large data can be processed at the edge before being sent to the clouds [3]
Context aware services, such as real time traffic updates, become available with the help of
RAN information [3]
Networks operators are motivated to maintain quality of experience and generate revenue and
therefore need to efficiently cope with the increasing mobile traffic. As mobile applications and
content migrate to the cloud, the latency of the network to access the cloud becomes a major
concern. For application and content providers to deliver more efficient, secure and low latency
connections, deployment of such applications or content at the edge of the network becomes
essential [4]. According to the European Standards Institute, the market drivers of MEC are:
Business transformation: Technology improvements and new revenue generating applications
help innovate new business strategies
Industry collaboration: Collaboration between network operators and application and content
providers is essential for optimal access

The Safety Standards Of Mercury
Mercury is extremely dangerous to humans due to its extreme conditions not suitable to human life.
Missions to Mercury must be conducted with infallible safety standards to prevent incidents such as
what has happened in the past. These safety standards must consider all possible circumstances in
which measures must be taken. When doing missions on Mercury safety should be the number one
priority. Before creating safety standards, it is important to first acknowledge issues and situations
that has arisen in the past. Awhile back, a team of scientist were sent to complete a mission on
Mercury. Accompanied with them was a robotthat went by the name of Speedy. Speedy was a
multifunctional robot built to assist the scientist with whatever they needed. Speedy was especially
useful against Mercuries harsh conditions. He was able to maneuver the surface where humans
could not. Before arriving on Mercury, the team knew they would needselenium in order to repair
their photo cell banks. These banks are important in keeping the base on Mercury from burning
up. Speedy was capable of retrieving this selenium, but was the only one capable of doing so. This
is because he was the only robot sent with the team. The safety flaw in only having one robot to
complete a life or death task is enormous. Standards at the time did not take into account flaws in
technology. On the day of the mission, Speedy was sent out to retrieve the selenium. The scientist
found it rather strange that he had not

religion that has seen rapid change since its conception and continues to see change even today.
This paper will explain how gender is understood in the Rastafarian tradition both at its inception
and today. Despite the fact that Rastafarian ideology states that respect of all people is necessary
in the ethic code, women are often left out of the traditions and practices. As said by Tracey
Nicholson of women in Rasta culture, If serious business is at hand, it is likely that women will
not be . It is hard to believe that the religion could lean one way or another based on gender
because it started as a conscious social movement that dealt solely with the horrors of the
oppression and exploitation of an entire race. Women, during the inception of the religion, were
seen as inferior, they were kept in a place of subordination and a realm of domestication for a
long time. Despite this fact, the role of women in the tradition is a bit indecisive in and of itself.
Chevannes, in his book Rastafari: Roots and Ideology, states, On the one hand, women are
respected, perhaps even feared, for their powers of fertility and command greater allegiance and
love from males and females alike than do their male counterparts. This idea that women are
somehow higher beings because of their child bearing abilities is prevalent throughout Rastafarian
ideology. They are bestowed with titles

in West Africa. Historically, the griot s job was solely to assist the king in his daily activities and
as well to use their art and music to tell the story about their history. They were feared and envied
because they had an impact on the individuals they praised or critiqued. They were an

The Argument from Religious Experience
The argument for God, based on personal Religious experiences, is an argument that cannot be
refuted by others. While others may not have the ability to prove the existence of God, through
another s experiences, they also cannot disprove this existence. A person s personal experiences are
something that no other person can determine, nor argue. My experiences are my interpretations for
the occurrences within my life, therefore, another person cannot determine what my true
experiences are, or how they make me feel or believe. Kreeft points out that there really is no need

These experiences cannot be argued by anyone, since the person in which it occurred, is the only
one with the ability to provide the reality to others.
While a person may not have the ability to argue the experiences of another person, one can
certainly argue the differences in these reported experiences. Accounts from different people,
who cite various experiences, creates an argument against the existence of God, based on
religious experiences. Utilizing these inconsistencies, people attempt to refute the existence of
God by outlining these inconsistencies with various reports of the people claiming to have
received these experiences (Holt, 2008). Persons who are skeptical of the religious experiences
to support God will look to find inconsistencies within the stories of those reporting these
experiences. However, to the believer, variances are a way of action for God. None of the

The Federal Reserve System is often referred to as the Fed. It serves as the nation s central bank
and arguably plays the most crucial role in the U.S. economy. It is the most important regulatory
agency in the U.S. monetary system and is usually considered the monetary authority. The Fed has

EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type
1 Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering
condition that forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the
pancreas production of insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was
already produced, but as the insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive
and use the glucose. The sugar remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects
of hyperglycemia become more damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by
the antibodies.
Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the
following three factors.
Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the
glucose into the tissues and cells.
Incorrect glucose production in the liver.
The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors.

Some believe that about 30,000 to 60,000 years ago, music was first discovered. The love of a
song back then could only be heard live or if you learned to play it yourself. Since then, there
have been many inventions for you to listen to your favorite genres, songs, and artists anytime

Edison invented a device for recording sounds and then playing it back called the Gramophone.
It was patented on February 19, 1878. The Gramophone looked like a cylinder that was smaller
at one end and bigger at the other. Even today, at the annual Grammy Awards the awards that are
given out are miniature versions of Edison s invention. Despite the Phonograph and the
Gramophone s success, the invention of the radio in 1906 was a threat to the recording industry.
The major record companies had a hard time keeping their own sales up due to the radio, but the
later invention of the LPs and 45 rpm records made the sales rocket. By the 60s and 70s, the

Office Space Facts
1. Gather the Facts The premise of the movie Office Space is about a group of workers, Peter,
Michael, Samir, Tom, and Milton, work at Initech who are fed up with their jobs. The movie
starts with Peter, the protagonist, going through his typical day of work at Initech. Various
annoyances have been accumulating and Peter views his days at work as a waste of time and has
no motivation to do anything productive. In addition to these brewing issues, Peter s boss, Bill
Lumbergh, is known for being a stickler to rules, however trivial they may be. For example, when
Peter forgets to include the cover sheet to a TPS report, not only does Lumbergh personally talk to

Black Athletes In The Civil Rights Movement
Throughout the course of the civil rights movement, African Americans were making strides to
reach their goal of equality. As most movements go, there were a lot different factors that went into
this movement. Different people voicing their opinions as to what they thought equality was. Many
African Americans had something to say, but had no way of of voicing their stance. Many broke
out in protest and violence in an attempt to get their views across, but there were others that had
their own unique way of getting their point across. This paper will focus on black athletes and their
fight against discrimination, their fight for equality, how they were able to stay sane through it all,
and the reaction they gained throughout their attempt to fully integrate and to be socially accepted
in sports.

Examples Of Fatal Flaws In The Once And Future King
The Fatal Flaws of Characters in the Arthurian Legend
Many characters in stories have one fatal flaw that can eventually lead to his or her downfall. In
The Once and Future King by T.H. White and The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, the
love triangle between King Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot is revealed. Guinevere is married to
Arthur, but she has feelings for Lancelot who is Arthurs most trusted knight. Each of these three
characters have characteristics that could be their fatal flaw. The fatal flaws of King Arthur,
Guinevere, and Lancelot all contribute in one way or another, to Arthur s downfall.
Arthur s fatal flaw is outlined in his early years of growing up, in Book One of The Once and
Future King. His parents leave him so he is adopted by Sir Ector who also happens ... Show more

The BBC Sherlock is a great example of the concept of tie in media, a product which is based on
the other media property such as a film, a game or a book. Tie in products and cross promotion is
used nowadays to keep the audiences` interest and attachmment to the particular product (Eastman

The Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, And Frog
Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, and Frog
All organisms have different digestive systems, respiratory systems, and circulatory systems. They
all need to digest their food, breathe, and circulate their blood, but how do they do it? You will
learn how the Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, and Frog do those things, and what the
similarities and differences are. First of all, the human body, crayfish, earthworm, and frog all have
many similarities and differenced about how their digestive system works. They all eat their food
through their mouths and the food then travels into the esophagus. The esophagus prepares the
food for further digestion. The food in the esophagus then travels in the frog, crayfish, and human
body s stomach. The earthworm doesn t have a stomach, but it has a crop that serves as a storage
stomach. Once the food is in the stomach, something different happens for each organism. The
food in the crayfish travels to the digestive gland which produces digestive substances and from
which the absorption of nutrients occurs. The same thing occurs in a frog and the human body,
but instead of a digestive gland it is moved into a small intestine. In the earthworm, the food goes
from the stomach to the gizzard, which uses stones that the earthworm eats to grind the food
completely. After it is moved into the digestive gland, small intestine, or gizzard, the food is
mostly digested. The earthworm and human body s food is now moved into the larger intestine,
where it absorbs water and any remaining nutrients. The frogs food is stored in something like a
large intestine, but it is called the gallbladder. The crayfish only has on intestine. After going
through all this, the undigested material leaves through the anus, or for a frog, it is called the
cloaca. Secondly, the human body, crayfish, earthworm, and frog also have many similarities and
differenced of how their respiratory system works. The crayfish respiratory system is the least
complex. Crayfish have gills, which are used to release carbon dioxide and to pick up oxygen, by
having a constant flow of blood. Frogs consist of nostrils and larynx, which opens up two lungs.
The walls of the lungs are filled with capillaries. Capillaries are

Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs, which provide billions annually to hundreds of
small health companies conducting research into new technologies. These programs provides
funding in three phases: proof of concept, research and development, and commercialization. In
the first phase, up to $150,000 in funding is provided to establish initial project feasibility and
create a proof of concept model. This funding provides for 60% of the initial cost required to
develop a proof of concept model for ClotX. To supplement this cost, we will also need to... Show

Our first target market will be commercialization in the military market, where we will seek
contracts with DARPA and the DoD to produce and supply ClotX for battlefield use. In the past,
the Army has paid tens of millions in contracts for a hemostasis product, most notably $29 million
for HemCon, a bandage application that turned out to be ineffective. The Navy has similarly paid
millions in contracts for a competing product, QuikClot. However, QuikClot has also produced to
have adverse health effects and faced difficulties in development and use in the field. Given the
failure of these products, the market space for a hemostatic product is unfilled and the Department
of Defense currently maintains tens of millions of dollars in open bid contracts for the production
and supply of a hemostatic product. One of these awards to procure ClotX for the military would
provide sufficient funding to create a production platform and pay for operational costs for
production. Based on ClotX s performance in military application, this will enable us to attract
more contracts from other military branches, including the Air Force and the Marines, which have
all previously sought similar hemostatic products in the past. Funding from these government
contracts combined with continued private investor funding will

Enzymes
Enzymes in detergent
1) What enzymes are used to make this product?
There are essentially six main enzymes involved in detergent, specifically amylases, proteases,
lipases, pectinases, cellulases, and mannanases. Each of these enzymes are responsible for targeting
stains containing specific macromolecules like carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids.
2) What type of reactions do the enzymes catalyze, and why is this of value?
Amylases are typically responsible for catalysing the breakdown of starches which can be of value
in removing the stains of foods such as cereals, pastas, and gravies. The enzyme hydrolyses the
bonds within the starch molecule which decomposes it into dextrins and other oligosaccharides,
which are soluble and can easily be removed in the wash. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, the source of two types of proteases are Bacillus alcalophilus and Bacillus lentus. The
most common sources of amylases are the bacteria Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens,
and Bacillus licheniformis. On the other hand, lipases are currently being sourced from yeast,
bacteria, fungus, and from mammals. Biotex is the main source of cellulases, and have been in use
since 1987.
4) Have the enzymes been modified for the process?
One example of enzyme modification for its use in detergents are cellulases. This enzyme which
is used to maintain the quality and brightness of clothing can be chemically modified to have a
greater stability when used in an alkaline medium. This is done by exposing the cellulases to
certain reagents like malcic anhydride. Another example of a modified enzyme would be the
alkaline protease, which replaced the endogenous protease. This enzyme was derived from an
alkalophilic strain of bacteria called Bacillus cereus, and is currently being used due to its stability
at higher water temperatures.

Kant s Views On Freedom Essay
In the following paper, I will outline how my understanding of freedom has changed since reading
Immanuel Kant s An Answer to the Question: What is Enlightenment? Firstly, I will state the
views that I held on freedom before I read the text, framing them within a political context by
labelling myself as a civil libertarian and explaining what that means. Subsequently, I will provide
my interpretation of Kant s views on freedom through the positive and negative senses and how,
for Kant, that there ought to be a distinction between the public and private use of reason, as it
constitutes a necessary limit on freedom in order to foster enlightenment. Then, I will outline how
Kant s views on freedom have changed my understanding of freedom, stating that they have only
strengthened it, though it has taken on a new degree of nuance as I agree that there ought to be
such a distinction between the two uses of reason. I will also disagree with Kant by arguing that
the citizenry must have the right to dissolve an authoritarian government, as it is necessary to
preserve enlightenment. Finally, I will highlight a paradox that presents itself in Kant s writings,
highlighting it through the contemporary example of Edward Snowden s disruptive usage of his
public reason. Prior to reading the text, my views on freedom were framed around my experience
with regards to paying attention to politics. I have always fancied fashioning my own viewpoints
on a slew of topics, and freedom is

Mergers and Acquisition
Do Mergers and Acquisitions always bring desired results? Individual Assignment
[pic] [pic] [pic]
Student Name: Mandeep Kaur (10211855) Module Leader: Simeon Scott Course: MA IBM
Introduction: For my research topic I have chosen this topic to analyse and to investigate about the
mergers and acquisitions of organisations. Do these mergers and acquisitions always bring desired
results or not. Mergers and acquisitions are very common and occur everywhere i.e. in
organizations, administrative units and businesses in all industries and of all sizes specially in
banking sector and in pharmaceutical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example when a manufacture company buy or merge with another component maker company,
called a vertical merge (Stacey, 1970:33).
Literature review: Different tools and techniques in the forms of ratio analysis etc. are used by
scholars to identify the effects of mergers and acquisitions and interestingly different results are
there in the market. Performance can be measured on the basis of long term and short term time
period; long term performance can be checked on the basis of profitability of the firm.
Fundamental analysis of the company with the help of ratio analysis (kumar bansal, 2008)
Motives for mergers and acquisitions: in economic terms a merger or acquisition will only be
worthwhile if combining the two businesses will lead to gains which would not arise if the two
business stayed apart. In financial terms, the present value of bidding business plus, the present
value of target business plus, a gain in terms of increased income or reduced expenses from
combining (Samuels, wilikes and brayshaw, 1996).
Acquisitions as transformation category:
As compared with other types of transformation in a company, the characteristics of an acquisition
is that it can include almost all other transformation categories. The employees in the acquired
organization must go through a number of technical changes: new frame of reference, new
organization, new business model, new rules and processes, different working conditions,
privileges, etc. It

The Presentation Of Conformity And Subversion Of Gothic...
Discuss the presentation of conformity and subversion of gothic archetypes
The gothic genre has been a prominent literary style throughout many eras, a popular example
being The Castle of Otranto . I have studied three texts; Emile Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights
, published in December 1847, The Selected Poems of John Keats , published in 1817 and the
later The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter, published in 1979. They all use gothic elements in
different ways to create a variety of effects and reflect on their own personal views, Carter in
particular as a post modern writer and Keats confusion of sexuality.
The three texts I have studied all conform to the gothic genre in similar ways such as, the use of
setting (use Gothic conventions to develop setting). For example in The Eve of St Agnes the
primary setting is a medieval castle which is portrayed as being sinister and isolated, Keats
describes a lowly arched way , the adjective lowly suggests the insignificance and unimportance of
the castle. The cobwebs could further highlight the fact that the castle is old and has remained
uninhabited for a number of years suggesting an ominous presence. In addition to this, it could also
suggest the prescence of insects and spiders within the castle connoting danger and eeriness
creating a spine chilling atmosphere. Keats further makes use of the gothic setting within Madeline
s bedroom Similarly, Bronte creates a highly gothic setting in Wuthering HeightsLockwood

John Lennon Being A Hero
However, ironically, the celebrity identities that captivate fans are usually a carefully staged
illusion (Nicol, 2006, p. 67). Celebrities may appear magical or superhuman (Rojek, 2001, p. 13),
but that is often because they are cultural fabrications (Rojek, 2001, p. 10). This can be thanks to
the celebritys management and public relations team, but it is chiefly credited to the media, who
can build up a celebrities image or tear it down. Following Lennon s death, the media universally
represented him as almost god like. In both articles from the day the news of Lennon s death broke

somewhat tenuous (McCutcheon, Lange, Houran, 2002, p. 69). The act of stalking revolves
around desires and emotions we all share (Nicol, 2006, p. 13), so by criminalizing stalkers, society
absolves the rest of us from recognizing unreasonable, possessive tendencies with respect to stars in
our own habitual behaviour (Rojek, 2012, p. 50). Even though the MailOnline article had the
advantage of hindsight, it still criticizes Chapman for his inappropriate obsession, meanwhile,

  • 2. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Pope Urban II Pope Urban II delivers a touching an inspiring speech that is meant to highlight the importance of trusting in God in one attempt to overcome their challenges. The pope delivers the message at a time when there is turmoil and the country had been subjected to chaos to misunderstanding by the kings and rulers at the time. In his speech the religious leader employs a prayer in their attempt to convince their followers to embark of the dangerous journey and rescue what belongs to them based on the motivation of bible scriptures. One motivation that the pope uses in luring Christians into the idea of fighting in the holy land is based in the fact that God has given them power unlike other nations to defeat their enemies (Jan). In his speech, Urban II also mentions their uniqueness in the ability to possess courage, and humility means that their God favors them and they do not need to worry as they plan to tackle and overcome the enemy in war. In the motivational speech, the pope further reminds the city members that they need to be aware that God is with them and they should not worry in the battle (Jan). ... Urban II states that it is written in the holy books that if they forsake their earthly materials and relatives for the name of their God, they will be blessed abundantly. He asserts that Christians need to learn to forego all belongings including those that they treasure dearly in their loves especially when he refers to leaving family members for the glory of God s name. In concluding his remarks, the Pope states that the word of God not only needs Christies to forego their belongings but they also have to realize that their bodies are worthless too and they should murder and devour each other for the name of God ... • 3. Norman, Oklahoma In the 1870 s, the Unassigned Lands in the part of the Oklahoma Territory that would become Norman, Oklahoma was a sight to behold. Just north of the North Canadian River, which is the main tributary of the Canadian River, which in turn is the largest tributary of the Arkansas River, Abner Ernest Norman led his federal surveying crew to what would develop into the town bearing his namesake. Norman, a 23 year old surveyor from Kentucky, was hired to oversee part of this project. Norman s work crew set up camp near what is today the corner of Classen and Lindsey streets; it was there that the men, perhaps jokingly, carved a sign on an elm tree that read Norman s Camp, in honor of their young boss. These festivals all bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars to the city of Norman and its businesses, plus they help to increase the popularity of tourism in not only Norman, but also across Oklahoma. Norman is an amazing town. The people are some of the most friendly as anywhere that can be found in the state of Oklahoma. The consistent pursuit of excellence in business and in education stand as an example to the rest of the state. • 4. The Use of Birds in Chronical of a Death Foretold by... In the novel, Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, birds are used as motifs intentionally in the imagery of scenes to convey sentiments, ideas and messages to the reader. Some of the roles taken by the symbolism of birds include indicating signs of the future and afterlife, supporting character portrayal and development throughout the text. The symbolism of birds is discussed in the essay because the recurring images of birds have a pertinent significance to the novella. In literature, birds are commonly viewed as signs of freedom while in flight, yet while they are entrapped in cages, they symbolize the struggle for freedom. Gabriel Garcia s usage of birds has both common and uncommon roles in the novel. The birds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Santiago seemed happy with his father until the latter died suddenly, three years before, (Marquez 7). In this sense, the dream about floating through a grove of timber trees where a gentle drizzle was falling, [...] but [...] he awoke [...] spattered with bird shit, (Marquez 3) ties into Santiago s life. The birds hold significance in this passage in the metaphor comparing bird shit to life ruining events. The reader learns more about Santiago when the narrator reveals that Nasar gained the good arts of valor and prudence (7) from his father and is a merry, peaceful, and openhearted (8) individual. Furthermore, Santiago is an aggressive wealthy individual that is compared to a sparrow hawk [...] just like his father, nipping the bud of any wayward virgin who began showing up in those woods, (90). In the text, falcons are associated with entertainment and displaying one s status of wealth, and the opening quote by Gil Vicente, the pursuit of love is like falconry (1) compares the persistent nature of pursuing love to the recreational activity of hunting with falcons. Subsequently, the reader becomes aware of Santiago s innocence and naivety. Nahir Miguel reveals to the narrator that Santiago looked like a little wet bird, (114). Because Marquez specifically chose a bird as the animal for this image, the birds must hold a certain importance to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Descriptive Of The Starry Night The Starry Night is one of the most famous paintings in the history of western culture. It was painted by Vincent Van Gogh in 1889 and is recognized as his finest work. This artwork is oil on canvas and is currently in the Museum of Modern Art, New York. An interesting fact about the artwork is that it is painted from Van Gogh s memory, unlike his other works which are painted outdoor. This painting is the view from the east facing window of his asylum room at Saint Reme de Provence. The view includes the starry sky, cypress tree, village, and hills. This morning I saw the countryside from my window a long time before sunrise, with nothing but the morning star, which looked very big. wrote Van Gogh. The first thing I notice in The Starry Night is the sky in the background because it stands out the most. There are many shining stars, the big bright crescent moon and wind swirls painted throughout the blue sky using contrasting colours like orange, yellow and white. Through the swirling wind, thick curve lines are flowing across the sky to form this spiral like formation. Eleven yellow stars which look like huge fireballs lighten the whole art piece by contrasting with the cool blue, dark night sky that contains a variety of shades of blue and grey. There is also the crescent moon at the top right hand corner that is bigger and emits an even brighter light compared to the rest of the stars. Next, I notice the giant cypress tree on the left side because of how its proportion is a lot bigger than everything else in the rest of the painting. It blocks out part of the sky and the village located at the bottom. The village houses are tiny and painted in the shade. It is compact and is close to the hills and its surrounding objects which makes the houses blend in and become unnoticeable. Many elements and principles are portrayed in this art piece. To begin with, the first thing I see and grabs my attention is the swirling wind. Rhythm and Movement can be seen and it creates a flow to the rest of the painting in which leads your eyes to follow along the path of the swirl and brings you to the next subject. It allowed me to view the art piece up to down and left to right, as I started from the swirl to the stars ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Plato And The Crito 1. The Crito draws a fine line between preserving one s integrity and maintaining one s image. According to Plato, an Ancient Greek philosopher, The other considerations which you mention of money and loss of character and the duty of educating one s children are, I fear, only the doctrines of the multitude, who, if they could, would restore people to life as readily as they put them to death and with as little reason (67). One of Platos main assertions is that emotions and priorities are bound to fluctuate over time, therefore an emotional decision is not necessarily always the correct decision. The story follows the events that happen after this transformation, such as how the different family members treat Gregor. At the end of the book Gregor dies, and the novella concludes with the family future plans after Gregor s death. After reading the novella, I think that looking at the ending of of the novella, the readers are definitely left with a sense of hope because the future prospects of the family are very promising, and the family also has a clear future for their daughter. To begin, when the family discusses about their future, it can be seen that there is hope for a chance in receiving stable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Grete was always regarded as too young and immature to be of help before Gregor s transformation, probably because Gregor had been the main supporter of the family. Due to Gregor s metamorphosis, however, Grete was given responsibility of things that the rest of the family didn t want to do, such as giving Gregor food, and also had to work at a job in order to further support the family. Therefore, after Gregor s death, the parents finally realise the maturity and responsibility that Grete possesses, and thinks about how their daughter was blossoming into a well built and beautiful young lady... they agreed that it would soon be time to find a good man for her (page 44). With a fresh new start and a daughter who has lots of potential, it is not unclear that the parents are gaining confidence in their new post Gregor s death life. Being recognised by her parents, Grete has also found confidence and as the book has, was the first to get up and stretch out her young body when leaving the tram they were on. • 9. Effects And Effects Of Acid Rain And Its Effects Acid Rain: its Effect Acid rain refers to precipitation that is more acidic (having lower pH levels) than average. In more detail, acid rain is a type of precipitation that has mixtures of wet and dry materials coming from the atmosphere, which includes more nitric and sulfuric acids (Conserve Energy Future: AcidRain). Acid rain can also be written as Acid Deposition because the acid rain could come down as other precipitation, for instance, snow. This became a worldwide problem due to the effects it can have on land, aquatic ecosystems, buildings, vegetation and more. The acidity of the acid rain will distort the pH levels and break down elements to harm whatever this type of precipitation touches. First things first, what is a pH level? The pH level is short for potential hydrogen, and the level is used to find the acidity of an aqueous solution. The scale goes from zero to fourteen, and seven being the most neutral level in the scale. Do not think that the drop from seven to six could be overlooked at. The higher the level (over level 7), it contains more oxygen, and more alkaline it is. Lower the level (below level 7), it becomes more acidic and contains less oxygen. Do not think that dropping one level in the pH scale won t make a big difference, ...the pH scale is a logarithmic measure. This means that every pH change of one is a tenfold change in acid content. ( The Environment: Acid Rain ). Rain, for instance, should be around 5.3 to 6.0 pH level of acidity, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The majority of the population is therefore grouped into the capital cities Sydney in New South Wales, Melbourne in Victoria, Adelaide in South Australia, Brisbane in Queensland, Darwin in Northern Territory, and Perth in Western Australia, Canberra in Australian Capital Territory . While Australia may be small in population, they also have a level of consumerism that equals the US, UK and other first world countries. The amount of natural resources in Australia is astounding and with the population grouped around the country its works to allow the country to utilize them as much as possible. For Australia being such a large country with many natural resources, the use of their mining industry has helped improve the economy and helped develop a stronger country. Over the past years, Australia has gone through many changes associated with their economy. In 1996, Australia was in a period of recession, but began to have economic growth in the years of 1997 through to the early 2000s. This growth was due to the weakening of the Australia dollar causing an increase in market shares for Australia exports. Golf is the motion of swinging a club back and forth, and hitting a ball, with the goal of making it in a small cup several hundred yards away. Yes that is golf, but it is so much more. Golfis a lifestyle, that most men over the age of 60 live, and keeps them away from their wife for the most part of the day. However, other than hiding from wives, golf is a skill most people should learn, as business transactions and weekends with the boss often occur on a golf course. Therefore, it is important to not only know how to play golf, but it is also a necessity to learn the lifestyle of country clubs in order to be the coolest guy on the golf course. • 16. Loyalty In Antigone By Sophocles In Antigone, Sophocles introduces the struggle between loyalty to civil law versus familial loyalty and divine law, which is a central conflict in the play. Antigone has a firm belief in upholding family values and honoring the gods and deceased by burying her brother. In contrast, Creon wants to do what is best for the city which is, in his opinion, forbidding the burial of Polynices. Both Antigoneand Creonbelieve that their point of view is more important, and neither is willing to change perspective, causing the chain of destructive events in the plot. Loyalty causes the deadly dispute between Antigone and Creon because of their conflicting perspectives about precedence. Antigone has the strong belief that loyalty to the dead and to the gods has precedence over all other opinions, specifically those of Creon. Antigone does not at all care that the one with all governing power has the most disagreement with her decision to remain devoted to her family below. Since I must please those below a longer time than the people here, for I shall lie there forever (Sophocles16). She knows and understands that time in the mortal world has a limit, however time in the underworld is eternal. Pleasing Creon and his belief to only stay true to civil laws are of no concern to Antigone, for all she wants is to please her family below and the gods above. An example of this is the burial of Polynices, because while it is right in Antigone s eyes, Creon believes it is foolish and a sin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The octet and sestet used in Brooke s poems do not withhold the typical characteristics of a sonnet, Traditionally, one main thought or problem is set out in the octave and brought to a resolution in the sestet (Eberhart). This is because the poem serves a different purpose. Rather than providing a solution to a problem, the speaker provides a view into the lives of the soldiers and how they had joy and proceeds to the sestet to provide an image of the soldier dying in unbroken glory . The sonnet is structured this way because it aids the reader in understanding that the death of the soldiers is glorious. Between the Octet and the sestet, there is a volta or shift. This, however, is not the case when it comes to McVeigh. When the Oklahoma City bombing is discussed, ideas regarding McVeigh s views were much more likely to be pushed to the side. Some of this could potentially be a result of attempts of people who could be potentially associated with McVeigh and his ideals (whether they be right wingers, verterans, etc.) to distance themselves from the event. This is perhaps best shown through examples of veterans insisting upon the wretchedness of McVeigh s actions. Such a distancing attempt, however, was also visible during John Brown s time. As mentioned in Thoreau s piece, many contemporary abolitionists attempted to distance themselves and their abolition movement from John Brown. Thus, the distance must result from a different cause. The cash flow statement provides information regarding the effectiveness of company management in operating the business, how the company s money is derived, and the way funds are being spent (Megan, Hategan, Caciuc, Cotlet, 2009). A company s management uses the statement of cash flows to assist with budgeting as it can predict cash flows in the future (Megan et al., 2009). Ultimately, companies are in the business to make money. To do this, they trade goods or services for cash, credit, or other goods and/or services of comparable value (bartering). Although some businesses rely more heavily on cash transactions, businesses would be unable to remain a going concern without long run cash inflows exceeding outflows (Megan et al., 2009). It accomplishes this task by making adjustments to the net income figure from the income statement to add back non cash related transactions (Gibson, 2011; Megan et al., 2009). Missions to Mercury must be conducted with infallible safety standards to prevent incidents such as what has happened in the past. These safety standards must consider all possible circumstances in which measures must be taken. When doing missions on Mercury safety should be the number one priority. Before creating safety standards, it is important to first acknowledge issues and situations that has arisen in the past. Awhile back, a team of scientist were sent to complete a mission on Mercury. Speedy was especially useful against Mercuries harsh conditions. He was able to maneuver the surface where humans could not. Before arriving on Mercury, the team knew they would needselenium in order to repair their photo cell banks. These banks are important in keeping the base on Mercury from burning up. Speedy was capable of retrieving this selenium, but was the only one capable of doing so. This is because he was the only robot sent with the team. They took a different approach when it came to protesting the government as they used social media, and their music to challenge the current president to evoke change. A coalition was formed by the musicians as they wanted the youth to protest the candidacy of their president. While others may not have the ability to prove the existence of God, through another s experiences, they also cannot disprove this existence. A person s personal experiences are something that no other person can determine, nor argue. My experiences are my interpretations for the occurrences within my life, therefore, another person cannot determine what my true experiences are, or how they make me feel or believe. While a person may not have the ability to argue the experiences of another person, one can certainly argue the differences in these reported experiences. Accounts from different people, who cite various experiences, creates an argument against the existence of God, based on religious experiences. Utilizing these inconsistencies, people attempt to refute the existence of God by outlining these inconsistencies with various reports of the people claiming to have received these experiences (Holt, 2008). Persons who are skeptical of the religious experiences to support God will look to find inconsistencies within the stories of those reporting these experiences. Pathophysiology Of Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus Diabetes Mellitus Nathalie Dao Med 2056 VN FT030 Diabetes Mellitus Research Paper Ms. Annabelle Anglo 3/16/2015 EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type 1 Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering condition that forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the pancreas production of insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was already produced, but as the insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive and use the glucose. The sugar remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects of hyperglycemia become more damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by the antibodies. Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the following three factors. Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the glucose into the tissues and cells. Incorrect glucose production in the liver. The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES MELLITUS, according to the American Diabetes Association (2015) the most basic symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 DM are: The three P s пѓ Polyuria Urinating often and having to urinate frequently at night пѓ Polydipsia Always feeling very ... The love of a song back then could only be heard live or if you learned to play it yourself. Since then, there have been many inventions for you to listen to your favorite genres, songs, and artists anytime you like. The history of music players dates back to November 21, 1877 when Thomas Alva Edison invented a device for recording sounds and then playing it back called the Gramophone. It was patented on February 19, 1878. The Gramophone looked like a cylinder that was smaller at one end and bigger at the other. Even today, at the annual Grammy Awards the awards that are given out are miniature versions of Edison s invention. Despite the Phonograph and the Gramophone s success, the invention of the radio in 1906 was a threat to the recording industry. The major record companies had a hard time keeping their own sales up due to the radio, but the later invention of the LPs and 45 rpm records made the sales rocket. By the 60s and 70s, the records had taken America by storm. There are many types of records with a variety of number of songs. A 10 inch 78 RPM record could play only about 3 minutes of music. • 47. The Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, And Frog Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, and Frog All organisms have different digestive systems, respiratory systems, and circulatory systems. They all need to digest their food, breathe, and circulate their blood, but how do they do it? You will learn how the Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, and Frog do those things, and what the similarities and differences are. First of all, the human body, crayfish, earthworm, and frog all have many similarities and differenced about how their digestive system works. They all eat their food through their mouths and the food then travels into the esophagus. The esophagus prepares the food for further digestion. The food in the esophagus then travels in the frog, crayfish, and human body s stomach. The earthworm doesn t have a stomach, but it has a crop that serves as a storage stomach. Once the food is in the stomach, something different happens for each organism. The food in the crayfish travels to the digestive gland which produces digestive substances and from which the absorption of nutrients occurs. The same thing occurs in a frog and the human body, but instead of a digestive gland it is moved into a small intestine. In the earthworm, the food goes from the stomach to the gizzard, which uses stones that the earthworm eats to grind the food completely. After it is moved into the digestive gland, small intestine, or gizzard, the food is mostly digested. The earthworm and human body s food is now moved into the larger intestine, where it absorbs water and any remaining nutrients. The frogs food is stored in something like a large intestine, but it is called the gallbladder. The crayfish only has on intestine. After going through all this, the undigested material leaves through the anus, or for a frog, it is called the cloaca. Secondly, the human body, crayfish, earthworm, and frog also have many similarities and differenced of how their respiratory system works. The crayfish respiratory system is the least complex. Subsequently, I will provide my interpretation of Kant s views on freedom through the positive and negative senses and how, for Kant, that there ought to be a distinction between the public and private use of reason, as it constitutes a necessary limit on freedom in order to foster enlightenment. I will also disagree with Kant by arguing that the citizenry must have the right to dissolve an authoritarian government, as it is necessary to preserve enlightenment. Discuss the presentation of conformity and subversion of gothic archetypes The gothic genre has been a prominent literary style throughout many eras, a popular example being The Castle of Otranto . I have studied three texts; Emile Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights , published in December 1847, The Selected Poems of John Keats , published in 1817 and the later The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter, published in 1979. They all use gothic elements in different ways to create a variety of effects and reflect on their own personal views, Carter in particular as a post modern writer and Keats confusion of sexuality. The three texts I have studied all conform to the gothic genre in similar ways such as, the use of setting (use Gothic conventions to develop setting). For example in The Eve of St Agnes the primary setting is a medieval castle which is portrayed as being sinister and isolated, Keats describes a lowly arched way , the adjective lowly suggests the insignificance and unimportance of the castle. The cobwebs could further highlight the fact that the castle is old and has remained uninhabited for a number of years suggesting an ominous presence. In addition to this, it could also suggest the prescence of insects and spiders within the castle connoting danger and eeriness creating a spine chilling atmosphere.
