Self Esteem And Eating Disorders
Throughout history, women have transformed their appearances to match the current beauty ideal.
Today, the idea of being a size zero has transformed itself from a trend into being an obsession. The
fascination to be thin and perfect has invaded the minds of women and girls all over the world, it feels
as if the pressure to have the perfect body everywhere. The ideals of beauty have been constantly
focussed on women s bodies. It s gone from the boyish figure during the roaring twenties to an
hourglass figure that swept the 1930s and 1950s. Every year beauty standards change and continue to
impact women s lives.
Many sources talked about self esteem and eating disorders relating to the pressure for the perfect
body throughout young girls and women. Other sources focused on the misleading influence of media
on women and girls. In one article, Body Image Dissatisfaction: Gender Differences in Eating
Attitudes, Self Esteem, and Reasons for Exercise (Furnham, Badmin, Sneade), it talked about women
and how they are more likely to judge themselves about their weight or size than men would. It also
talked about the different struggles that men and women go through with their bodies. The article,
Perfect Body Image , talked about what people are seeing in the news as being perfect. It also brings
up the dangers of people thinking and being pressured into these standards. Dangers such as Anorexia,
Bulimia, and other eating disorders, are becoming more and more common in society

Essay on Comparison of the Power of One Movie and Book
Differences and Similarities in a Tale of Courage
For many years Hollywood has been making blockbuster movies based on bestselling novels, but
often these movies differ greatly from the novel . The movie The Power of One based on a book of the
same name follows this trend. The Power of One tells the story of Peekay, a boy living in South Africa
who dreams of becoming the welterweight champion of the world, and who tries to correct the
injustice that goes on around him. Although the movie does keep the main themes of the novel like
racism and how one person can change the world. The film adds new plot twists and characters that
make the story more exciting, but also changes important characters and storylines from the ... Show

Peekays mom is another character that appeared in both the novel and film, but not in the same
context. In both versions Peekays mother suffers a Nervous breakdown, causing Peekay to be sent in
boarding school. In the movie she dies after Peekay is sent to boarding school from an unknown
cause. While in the book she recovers from her mental breakdown and becomes a Born again
Christian. By eliminating the mother, the movie does not show the complicated relationship Peekay
had with his mother in the book.
An obvious difference between a novel and its movie is the way characters are portrayed. In the movie
of The Power of One, the protagonist is portrayed very similar to the novel. In both the novel and film
Peekay is portrayed as a courageous hero who faces adversity, and who tries to change the world
around him. One thing the movie does not truly show like the book did, is Peekay s desire to become
the welterweight champion of the world. If I had to choose between becoming the welterweight
champion of the world and taking a law degree at oxford, the boxing would win [Courtenay 463].In
the movie Peekays boxing takes a back seat to his desire to help the black people of South Africa .
While in the book, Peekay s dream of becoming the welterweight champion of the world is the main
focus in the protagonists mind. Morrie is another character that is portrayed differently from the book.
In the movie Morrie role is not as prominent

The Importance Of Faulkner s Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance...
What defines a writer and their ability to deliver a message? Is it their level of eloquence? Or is it the
topic that they decided to dedicate their time to writing about? To simply answer, yes and yes. Being a
writer does require all of the above, but it necessitates something more. It requires the passion and
ardor that one has to bring into their writing. In a time of fear and anguish, most might lose that
passion that sparked in them, leaving behind a passionless and hopeless shell. In his Nobel Peace Prize
acceptance speech at the Nobel Banquet, these were the issues William Faulkner had to address.
Using his platform for something greater, Faulkner delivered his speech, not only to accept his award
but to advise the future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the future generations of writers that Faulkner was speaking to, they would fulfill his wishes. Over
50 years later, University of Chicago economist, Steven D. Levitt, and New York Times journalist,
Stephen J. Dubner, combined their knowledge and skills and created the book, Freakonomics. The
book follows an economist, Levitt, as he explores the hidden side of everything and explains it all in a
different, unconventional perspective. It takes on the topic of morality and economics as he, along
with Dubner, ask and answer many questions such as, which is more dangerous, a gun or a swimming
pool? What do schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common? Or why do drug dealers still live
with their moms? As the reader can see, these questions aren t the usual conventional ones. It takes on
an unprecedented view as Levitt and Dubner research and give a whole new perspective on how the
world works.
As they answer these unconventional questions, it show the consideration, thoughtfulness, and
research that Levitt and Dubner went through in order to give the proper answer. Yet not only do they
give the answers but they give a thorough explanation as they navigate the readers through their entire
thinking process, showing the passion and deliberation that they put into making this book. Consider
the question that Levitt and Dubner asked in chapter five, which is more dangerous, a gun or a
swimming pool? Most

Crisis Counselor Skills
Skills, Knowledge, and Training Required for Crisis Counselors
When counselors choose to be on a disaster response team they need to be aware of the skills and
knowledge that is required for the job. The first thing that counselors need to be aware of is the
burnout rate of being a disaster counselor. According to Sommer (2008), there is four components that
a clinician needs to be an effective disaster counselor. First the clinician needs to have a vast
knowledge and training in trauma based counseling, pay attention to all aspects of treatment the
conscious and the unconscious, have a reciprocated reverence for the interpersonal climate. Lastly,
possess the knowledge of the educational components dealing with secondhand trauma. The same ...

Counselors are very important during this time to help counsel the loved ones of the person that lost
their life in the disaster. Bender (2002) suggest that this leaves the family not able to have a traditional
funeral, especially if the body cannot be found.
When dealing with grief clinicians need to actively listen to their clients, provide empathy and
openness, and make sure the client is in a situation that is nonjudgemental. Clinicians needs to be
trained in these techniques when dealing with disasters that involve death. Clinicians also need to
reassure clients that it is okay to vent the uncomfortable feelings the person maybe feeling.
Another approach that clinicians needs to be trained in is utilizing the community and training them to
help foster comfort to people that are suffering from the disaster. According to Henley, Marshall,
Vetter, (2011) the people in the community (such as teachers, law enforcement etc,) can help people
with problem solving skills and coping skills if the correct training from a mental health professional.
The same authors suggest that clinicians need to utilize the proper assessment and screening tools that

Gender Deviance In Aristophanes, Catullus, And Euripides
How Aristophanes, Catullus, and Euripides Viewed Male Gender Deviance and Their Parallels in
Modern Society
One modern issue related to gender and sexuality that has roots in ancient cultures is the transgression
of gender boundaries, specifically by male individuals. The idea of gender transgression by males is
broad; it can include failing to perform one or more aspects of masculinity or, as is more common in
modern settings, failing to identify oneself with masculinity at all, even identifying as a woman or
some other gender identity. Gender deviance was taboo in ancient Greece and Rome, with certain
actions, e.g., consenting to being penetrated, resulting in the loss of the man s citizenship and exile
from the community. Not surprisingly, this phenomenon continues to be met with strong negative
reactions by many individuals in modern society, including sardonic comments, the ... Show more

Interestingly, modern society is in many ways reflected through the writings of the Greeks and
Romans. Studying how the writings of Aristophanes, Catullus, and Euripides approach and describe
male gender deviance yields knowledge about Greek and Roman attitudes toward gender and the ways
in which these attitudes have shaped how modern Western society views male gender deviance.
Aristophanes, the most reactionary of the three ancient authors, critiques, in various ways, men who
transgress gender boundaries, ultimately advocating for strict gender boundaries and masculinity as a
way to defend against effeminacy and other forms of moral decay in Frogs. Catullus describes
masculinity and gender deviance in a way that directly challenges gender norms, but also defends
many harmful aspects of masculinity. Lastly, Euripides explores the performance of masculinity, the
insecurities associated with those actions, and the effect of

Environmentally Sustainable City Of South Australia
Environmentally sustainable city has been Adelaide City Council s priority vision and by 2012, carbon
emissions have reduced by 60%.1 A city that continues to adapt to climate change, utilizes water and
energy efficiently, maintains the natural resources wisely and reduces waste is quite a great challenge
for local council.2 However, effective strategies do help in achieving their vision. In August 2004,
Adelaide City Council and the State Government of South Australia launched a single stage national
housing competition called The Adelaide Affordable Eco Housing Competition. The winning scheme
of this competition is designed by Troppo Architects, providing 26 apartments and a cafe as shown in
Fig. 1. This eco housing is now located on the south east corner of Whitmore Square which is just few
steps away from bus stops, eateries and markets while the free public bus service is provided within
the city.3 No doubt that the normal dwelling would integrate the basic principles of adapting human
wellbeing and aesthetic pleasure into the design but what makes ecology themed housings deserve to
be focused on are their abilities to adapt the climate while benefiting the environment with the eco
features. With the aim of reducing carbon emission in the city, the feature of installing energy efficient
facilities in the dwellings is a must for Eco housing.4 Photovoltaic panels, part of solar power system

Media Bias Analysis
Introduction: During this week I investigated many different news sources and different tactics they
use. My research has shown the incredibly strong bias that the media has. To get a full grasp of the
biases I had to use source diversity. My sources ranged from social media, to television, to web based
articles. Through my research, I discovered the effective and prevalent uses of loaded language, social
media, sensationalism, bias in quotes, and the role of gatekeepers in media. Example 1: Fox News had
a segment on President Donald Trump s milestones in office. Fox News is known for having a
Republican bias, and its bias was very prevalent in the use of loaded language. The Angle had an
infographic saying that Trump accomplished a soaring economy and deported violent criminal aliens .

Impact Of The Chinese Exclusion Act On Chinese Immigrants...
Impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act on Chinese immigrants and immigration policy
The Chinese Exclusion Act was established in 1882, in which the first time United States prevent a
group of immigrants with nationality (Lee 4), marked United States from welcoming nation to an
enclosed and discriminative nation, has monumental impact on each Chinese immigrants and culture
of the entire American Chinese community (6). The poor conditions and lack of opportunities in the
19th century China and the Chinese s hope of accumulating wealth to support their families in China
fostered the huge influx of Chinese immigrants to United States. The discovery of gold in California
also fuelled many Chinese s dream of fast wealth (112). Due to the need for mass labour stemming
from industrialization and high productivity of Chinese labours, employers would enthusiastically hire
Chinese labour, which in turn sparked the increasing competition with the local workers and a
growing anti Chinese sentiment (114).
It is crucial to recognize the huge toll the Chinese Exclusion Act took on Chinese immigrants and
Chinese Americans, and the negative influence of racialization it had on immigration policy of other
countries. In this paper, I will discuss the consequences of the Chinese Exclusion Act on Chinese
culture and society in the United States, regarding to the isolation of Chinese society in U.S., paper

Manning, a Benton Harbor, Michigan native and assigned to the Joint Task Force s 525th Military

knew he [sergeant major of the Army] was coming to the island pretty soon.
He did not think much about what he had said until Sgt. 1st Class Kale Webster, a platoon sergeant for
the 525th MP Bn., asked him a similar question while talking about his promotion, said Manning.
Manning said, I was talking to my platoon sergeant [Webster] and told him that the sergeant major of

Initially, I was kidding, I wasn t serious.
Webster told Manning that we can make it happen if that is what he wanted, said Manning
Manning made an inquiry to me about his promotion because he knew that the sergeant major of the

Concentration Camps At Auschwitz Essay
Did you know that over one million people died at Auschwitz? Auschwitz was the largest
concentration camp of all the concentration camps. It was also the most horrifying. concentration
camps were camps where people were detained without trial. They were kept in extremely harsh
conditions and without any rights. Concentration camps were an atrocious aspect of World War II
because of what happened to the people that lived there and simply because of the reason they were
there. Concentration camps were camps where people were detained without trial and were tortured by
the Nazis. Between 1933 and 1945, Nazi Germany established about 20,000 camps to imprison its

At Auschwitz, the largest of all concentration camps to have existed, children were often killed upon
arrival. Children born in the camps were generally killed on the spot (auschwitz.dk). As to say that
innocent children were brutally murdered for not being able to do tasks meant for men. Prisoners were
fed a small cup of watery soup, a piece of bread, and imitation coffee and sometimes not at all
(www.theholocaustexplained.org). Prisoners were starved and even to death for being unliked. Nazi
Germany exploited the labor of the occupied peoples from the onset of the occupation. More that
fourteen million people and 2.5 million prisoners of war were transported to Germany for labor
(yadvashem.org). Nazis took many occupied people and prisoners to yield other camps with prisoners
to do their dirty work, simply because of the hatred for people different from themselves.
Concentration camps established a foundation for Hitler s hatred. These camps may have not been a
direct cause for World War II, but they did set a sturdy base for theNazi s to take control and they will

Essay on Sexual Harassment
In today s society we constantly hear or read about individuals that claim they were a victim of sexual
pressure. These instances can take place at work, school, the military and even at church. But exactly
what is sexual exploitation or unwanted sexual behavior? After looking at several definitions for
sexual abuse I came across the following definition that I feel will help all of us to better understand
what inappropriate sexual behavior is. Sexual harassment was defined by The Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission (EEOC) as unwelcome advances and requests for sexual behavior or
conditional requests such as a person s employment will continue if they perform these acts. (Gale
Group, 2003). This definition left me thinking and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Please also keep in mind that a harasser can be male or female and can be of the same sex as the
victim. The harasser may not always know that they are being offensive but if the other person is
uncomfortable and has stated this to them then he or she should stop before legal action is brought
forth.
Some women may even prefer not to report any allegations of being pressured sexually for fear of
what might happen to them if they do. Although it is not lawful to retaliate against an individual for
exposing employment practices that discriminate many people would seek retaliatory efforts.
Therefore there are many women who feel it may be better for them to suffer in silence than to deal
with revengeful or vindictive tactics such as being denied promotions or being scorned by other
women who may think that the victim is pressing charges for attention. Because of the nature of such
unprofessional behavior the victim may find him or herself very alone and no one wants to go through
that especially after suffering through the harassment itself.
Being sexually abused can have similar effects like rape in which the victim falls prey to depression,
shame and guilt. Being depressed can lead to anxiety problems, an increase or decrease in weight as
well as a lack of self confidence and self respect. They may experience the loss of trust in familiar
people and places. The victim can become withdrawn and if they are married the

Changes in Japans and South Africa s Criminal Justice System
A Nations history has a strong influence on the way they decide upon new ideas and laws. Some
countries undergo drastic measures in order to change their injustice ways. Japan and South Africa
both endured historical events that shaped the way their criminal justice is now.
Japan underwent a historical event that eliminated their old constitution and originated a new one.
During the Mejia restoration Japanese feudalism was overthrown, and Japan was introduced to
Western political principles (Terrill, 2016). The Mejia restoration led to a transformation of an

Furthermore, with the reconstruction of the constitution it established a cabinet form of government
with a prime minister and it created a new judicial system (Terrill, 2016). Additionally, South Africa
also experienced previous movements that have changed their criminal justice system for the better.
South Africa during 1948 1994 underwent a long period of racial discrimination from the apartheid.
During the ruling of the apartheid the blacks were segregated from the whites. The apartheid created
policies in order to protect the white society from being overpowered by the number of colored people
in the country (Kopp, 2017). They wanted a clear separation of blacks and whites. The apartheid
becomes the top leaders of South Africa after the British declared victory of the South African war
(Lovell, 2017). They created laws in attempts to segregate the blacks from the whites, for example, the
apartheid constructed the native land act, which prohibited any interaction between the two races (
Lovell, 2017). The apartheid also implemented rules prohibiting black youth from having the same
education as the whites and also forcing blacks to carry around passes while they were out in the
streets. As a result, to this injustice implementation Nelson Mendela, Walter Sisulu, and Oliver Tambo
formed an organization, known as the youth league (Lovell, 2017). The youth league would

Studying The Chemistry And The Types Of Macro Invertebrates
In previous studies, studying the chemistry and the types of macro invertebrates that live in a pond or

We took physical Measurements like the width, depth, description of substrate and the site. This was

measuring pH, temperature, phosphate, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, dissolved O2, and dissolved solids.
We also counted the macro invertebrates we found and then we Identified the ones we found. With the
data that we collected, we hope to find out how does the water affect the types of macro invertebrates
found in the stream which brings up my hypothesis which is The more dissolved O2 found in the
water, we will find bioindicators that indicate clean water. I predict if there is high amounts of O2

water quality as our independent and our dependent is the macro invertebrates.

An Analysis Of George Ritzer s Five Components Of...
McDonaldization McDonaldization is a term used by sociologist George Ritzer in his book The
McDonaldization of Society (1993). Ritzer uses McDonaldization to describe a sociological
phenomenon that is happening in our society. He explains that it becomes demonstrated when a
culture adopts the principles of a fast food restaurant. Essentially, the term McDonaldization is the
process of rationalization. When Ritzer titled his book The McDonaldization of Society he is actually
referring to the rationalization of society. Thus, the use of the word McDonaldization simply indicates
that the fast food restaurant is one of many great examples of rationality. Ritzer discusses five
components of McDonaldization: efficiency, predictability, control, ... Show more content on

For example, Safeway supermarket employees use non human technology to scan food in barcodes.
Non human technology does not only controls the workers but customers as well. For instance,
customers face a variety of structural barriers and they follow the norms when they enter a Safeway
supermarket for they have to walk down aisles to obtain their desired goods. All of these are ways to
control customers at the Safeway supermarkets to act in a manner in which the business wants them to
act. The effects of non human technology in supermarkets illustrate how they are controlling
customers wants and needs. The idea of a rationalized system can also become inefficient when there
are too many regulations, which leads to irrationality. Although Safeway supermarkets find it efficient
to stock up on all products, it is not efficient when you have to wade through the mini departments of
the deli, the bakery, the fresh produce section, and aisle after aisle just to find what you are looking

they still eat it, because it is efficient, cheap, and fast. People have taken McDonaldization to the next
level where if they cannot have their dinner made within fifteen minutes they find something else that

Fact Verses Fiction in O Brien s The Things They Carried
The difference between fairy tales and war stories is that fairy tales begin with Once upon a time,
while war stories begin with Shit, I was there! (Lomperis 41). How does one tell a good war story? Is
it important to be accurate to the events that took place? Does the reader need to trust the narrator? In
The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien examines what it takes to tell a good war story. He uses his
own experiences in Vietnam in conjunction with his imagination to weave together a series of short
stories into a novel.
First, the reader must understand just what makes a good war story . The protagonist of the novel, Tim

In the chapter Speaking of Courage Norman Bowker claims that he is responsible for his friend s
death. However, in the chapter In the Field O Brien places the blame on an unnamed young soldier
who started the enemy attack by turning on his flashlight. Which story is true? Does it matter what is
true? According to Jim Neilson, the story of Kiowa s death evokes the notion that for the U.S. Vietnam
was a quagmire; his drowning functions almost emblematically to suggest America s deepening
entanglement in southeast Asia (193). Whatever the meaning behind Kiowa s story, it certainly fits the
requirements for a good war story: there is nothing redeemable in it. Maria Bonn sees the three stories
about Kiowa s death ( Speaking of Courage, Notes, and In the Field ) as exemplifying O Brien s
relentless investigation of how to tell a true war story (paragraph 39). When you look at all three of
these chapters together you can see the progression from what is imagined to what is true or is it the
other way around? With Tim O Brien, it is never clear.
The chapter Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong is another questionable narrative. The reader learns in
the first paragraph that the narrator, Rat Kiley, is not known for his accurate story telling ability. Rat
had a reputation for exaggeration and overstatement, a compulsion to rev up the facts (O Brien 89).

Aryan Culture
Term Paper Aryan and Hindu Culture One of the largest and most popular cultures in India is the
Aryan Culture. The Aryan culture was based on parts of modern day Pakistan and the upper west parts
of India. The Aryans were not originally from India. They were a very war like people and invaded
through the Khyber Pass in the upper west region of India. They invaded between the years of 2000
1000 BCE and invaded in multiple successful waves. The success of the Aryan invasion was mostly
attributed to their use of more advanced technologies. The advanced technologies included horse
drawn chariots that had small and light spiked wheels attached to them as well as superior bronze
weaponry. The people that were settles in the area being invaded had, at most, stonge age type
weaponry, such as spears and possibly bows, and maybe an ox cart for travelling. Through many years
of invasions and many different leaders, they settled throughout the Indus Valley region and later
spread into other parts around the year 1500 BCE, replacing the Dravidian people who currently were
settled in the area. The Aryan culture was made up of mostly semi nomadic people as well as
herdsman who raised chickens and cows and many were farmers who grew crops in the rich soil near
the Indus Valley river. The word Aryan comes from the Sanskrit word ārya, which means Noble One

Vanity In Pride And Prejudice
Solomon was known as the smartest and wisest man in the world. He became a king of Israel, and
decided that he was going to figure out where happiness is found. He thought that money might be
able to make him happy, so he became the richest man in the world, but he was unsuccessful in his
pursuit of happiness. He then tried alcohol and women, but he was still unsuccessful. By the end of his
pursuit, he eventually determined that happiness could not be found in possessions and money, or any
earthly pleasure. For people in modern times, possessions and wealth are often what guide
relationships the modern life in general. People who put value in material wealth will struggle and
struggle all their lives, but will never be able to find true happiness. Literature and entertainment
provides countless examples of the truth of this statement. For much of their lives, Fitzwilliam Darcy
and Charlie Babbitt show only pride and love for their money and possessions, and until they met the
people who eventually be the most important to them, they weren t able to truly experience love and
redemption from their vain lifestyles.
In both Pride and Prejudice and Rain Man, Charlie and Mr. Darcy show traits of excessive pride and
vanity when they find self worth in their money and social status. When Charlie originally decides he
is going to take Raymond back to Los Angeles from Cincinnati, he is trying to use Ray as leverage so
that he can get his share of his recently passed father s

Windows and Apple Mac users found themselves together fighting for innovation and idealism. Many
outsiders were amazed at the speed and extent at which Apple was able to bring even non traditional
users into the Apple community.
Should Apple invest into each customer to increase customer loyalty?
If this means whether Apple should invest at all, then our answer is a clear yes . But it should be clear
from our last answer that brand loyalty is already strong, so we do not believe that Apple needs to
increase spending in this area.. Additionally, Apple has a history of good customer service. In the 2006
Customer Satisfaction Index, Apple placed top in customer satisfaction among PC manufacturers . The
report also stated that Apple s customer service agents at the call centers were key for the high rating.
Such call center agents are often the only face of the company, and contribute significantly to
customer loyalty. This has been a strong factor helping to transform the customer into a brand
champion promoting Apple s cause by word of mouth.

Examples Of Policy Change In America
(A) Examples of policy change in America would be the elections. If we elect a new president we
create a sense of policy change due to the new president aspiring to accomplish one thing different on
their agenda, even if the new president remains in the same political party as the previous president.
The campaigning candidates usually listen to their respective public opinion, thus promising certain
things in order to get them elected. If the elected president fulfills the wishes of public opinion, then
we partake in policy change. (B) Women are more likely than men to: Favor an activist role for
government, oppose U.S military intervention, support restrictions on firearms, support affirmative
action, support spending on social programs,

Criminal Justice System And The Law System
INTRODUCTION Developing information suggests that a criminal justice system gains practical
value by generating societal views of fair enforcement and judgement. Particularly, views of practical
fairness resulting in views of the system s legality, may promote systemic compliance with applicable
law, support with legal institutions and actors, and respect to even negative outcomes. A separate
information alludes that a criminal justice system derives realistic value by allocating criminal legal
responsibility and punishment according to principles that trail general instincts of justice.
Distinctively, views of applicable justice resulting in views of the system s ethical credibility would
seem to promote compliance, support, and respect. By contrast, a criminal justice system alleged to be
procedurally unfair or basically unjust may incite resistance and agitation, and may lose its capacity to
control powerful social and normative influence. Trust in the Law by T.R. Tyler and Y. J. Huo pursues
to explain why people eagerly comply with legal authorities. One method by which compliance might
be achieved is through the threat of sanctions that would be associated with noncompliance. This
avoidance approach, the authors indicate, is less optimal than having people consent without
persuasion. Their central notion is that such willingness to comply critically depends upon a strong
sense that legal authorities are legitimate. This sense of legitimacy,

Ketchup Colorblind
In Living Color; Glasses providing color to the colorblind
Can you tell the difference between ketchup and mustard without reading the bottle first? Many can
answer yes to this question but, what about those who would answer no? Color vision deficiency,
otherwise known as CVD or colorblindness, may soon be obsolete. CVD affects approximately 1 in
12 men (8%) and 1 in 200 women in the world. EnChroma, a company that was developed in
Berkeley, California discovered glasses that enable those living with CVD to see color.
Giving the Rainbow to the Colorblind According to Don McPherson, Enchroma s chief scientist, the
glasses have lenses containing a special vertical filter that blocks out certain wavelengths, which helps
the brain make distinctions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
EnChroma glasses cost up to $450 per pair. Despite the fact that the product is expensive, they are
selling fast. We re selling these very quickly, McPherson said. As soon as we order 500 or 1,000 pairs,
they are sold.
Color Efficient???
In order to test the accuracy of the glasses, scientists administered color tests on participants before
and after wearing the glasses. For every participant, the results for both tests were similar. Dr. Mark
Fromer, an attending ophthalmologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, doesn t believe these
glasses can change the color blind eye s ability to see true colors, according to ABC news. McPherson
and his team have been unable to prove that EnChroma glasses cure color blindness however, they
help people perceive colors better, said McPherson.
Aaron Williams Mele was gifted a pair Enchroma Color for the Colorblind glasses for his birthday.
The first time wearing his glasses at a beach in Norfolk, VA, was a tear jerking experience for him.
Immediately after putting them on, Williams Mele s smile melts right off his face. His bewilderment is
incredible to watch. His jaw trembles as he tries to find a way to explain what most people take for

The Benefits of Organic Foods
Benefits of Organic Foods
Introduction:
In spite of the fact that organic foods have been proved to have a better effect on people s health in
comparison to conventional foods served in supermarkets, the fact that people continue to buy their
food without expressing interest in its provenience makes it possible for one to understand that the
masses have failed to comprehend the full complexity of the problem at hand. People need to
understand that the You are what you eat expression applies perfectly in their case and that it is
essential for them to get actively involved in creating lifestyles that reflect positively on their health.
Even with this, I have trouble determining whether or not organic foods are actually very important
when considering nutrition.
Body:
Organic foods from a global perspective dealing with profits and trends
Recent advancements in the medical world have made it possible for the masses to resort to taking
medicine whenever they feel ill. As a consequence, people came to consider that pills are the answer
to unhealthy diets and that they thus no longer require buying organic foods in order to live healthier.
It is thus essential to determine whether it would be more effective for individuals to stick to
traditional foods sold in non specialized shops or if it would be better for them to focus on consuming
organic foods only.
Individuals in the contemporary society follow a trend by expressing interest in buying organic foods

Bullying And Its Effects On Children
2.2 Overview: In the next 7 minutes, a child in the U.S. will be bullied. It may be the son or daughter
of someone you know. Worse, it may be your own. Meanwhile, only four out of 100 adults will step in
to stop it. And only 11 percent of the child s peers might do the same. The rest 85 percent will do
nothing. Every day in America, more than 160,000 children miss school out of fear of being bullied,
according to National Education Association estimates. Bullying takes many forms, ranging from the
seemingly innocuous name calling to the more harmful cyberbullying to severe physical violence. It
happens everywhere, at all times to the most vulnerable of kids, especially those who are obese, gay or
have a disability. And besides the physical, emotional and psychological tolls it imposes on victims,
bullying produces adverse socioeconomic outcomes. The Association for Psychological Science
recently found that those who are bullies, victims or both are more likely to experience poverty,
academic failure and job termination in their adulthood. In addition, they are likelier to commit crime
and abuse drugs and alcohol. For schools, the financial burden caused by bullying is not to be ignored,
either. According to a National Association of Secondary School Principals report, the average public
school can incur more than $2.3 million in lost funding and expenses as a result of suspensions,
expulsions, vandalism, alternative placement and lower attendance. There are different

The Dark Ways And Savage Battle Tactics
Elvellyn
With glowing eyes, mysterious ways and savage battle tactics, Elvellyn are often mistaken for demons
and are widely feared by those who know of them.
Pack Mentality
Elves are commonly seen as a gentle, slow moving and tree hugging race among many humans.
However, this could not be further from the truth. When in their element the Elvellyn are not only
graceful and mysterious but quite brutal and unforgiving. Among their own race many see each other
as family, or pack. But outsiders and offenders are dealt with quickly and savagely. Respect and even
devotion to each other runs in their blood, and it is an almost inescapable instinct to be near and
support other Elvellyn.
It is not uncommon for them to live communally, with groups of young adult friends living together in
one large home with a single kitchen and bath, or large families doing the same. More often than not
the bonds of friendship formed as fledglings will develop into either romances or Bond s, making
them family, so when asked what one s relation is to a close friend it is usually described as bond
brother/sister or heart bond .
Culture
Fairly religious, those who are open about their dislike or disbelief in the gods are usually shunned
and ostracized by the community.
While slow paced and seemingly lazy in their everyday, normal routines, Elvellyn will work diligently
and untiringly when motivated and prefer to move quickly when it is not deemed impolite.
They are very polite and

ever, ever leave again. (Carver 19). This shows that Al wants to be a child and doesn t want the

Deconstructing of Forest and Woodland
Introduction
The definitions for the words forest and woodland are heterogeneous around the world and are
circumscribed to each country´s structural stands in local eco regions.
Countries as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, India, Japan, Mexico or US, with a great
diversity of climates and soil conditions attributable to their large land extensions and altitude
gradients (Borja Jimenez et al. 2013), can be identified as territories with high variety of forests and
woodlands.
The great diversity and diffuse thresholds among ecosystems difficult construction of criteria for their
classification into inventories and application of management and conservation policies.
Box Fujiwara (2013) differentiate forests from woodlands: forest is an ecosystem dominated by tall
trees, in a closed structure (considered closed when tree crowns are touching) and woodland is an
ecosystem dominated by tall or short trees with an open distribution.
The etymology of both words has different meanings according to the language. In Chinese, 森林
(sēnlín), the first character, sēn (also mori in Japanese) means tree , forest , dark , gloomy ; the second
character, lín, means forest , grove , thicket , wood . Differently, 林地 (líndì) means wood (first
character) land (second character). It also means holt that means little forest . The word bosque in
Spanish derives from the German word busch meaning bush , shrub , jungle . Different from English,
in Spanish the terms

  • 2. Self Esteem And Eating Disorders Throughout history, women have transformed their appearances to match the current beauty ideal. Today, the idea of being a size zero has transformed itself from a trend into being an obsession. The fascination to be thin and perfect has invaded the minds of women and girls all over the world, it feels as if the pressure to have the perfect body everywhere. The ideals of beauty have been constantly focussed on women s bodies. It s gone from the boyish figure during the roaring twenties to an hourglass figure that swept the 1930s and 1950s. Every year beauty standards change and continue to impact women s lives. Many sources talked about self esteem and eating disorders relating to the pressure for the perfect body throughout young girls and women. Other sources focused on the misleading influence of media on women and girls. In one article, Body Image Dissatisfaction: Gender Differences in Eating Attitudes, Self Esteem, and Reasons for Exercise (Furnham, Badmin, Sneade), it talked about women and how they are more likely to judge themselves about their weight or size than men would. It also talked about the different struggles that men and women go through with their bodies. The article, Perfect Body Image , talked about what people are seeing in the news as being perfect. • 3. Essay on Comparison of the Power of One Movie and Book Differences and Similarities in a Tale of Courage For many years Hollywood has been making blockbuster movies based on bestselling novels, but often these movies differ greatly from the novel . The movie The Power of One based on a book of the same name follows this trend. The Power of One tells the story of Peekay, a boy living in South Africa who dreams of becoming the welterweight champion of the world, and who tries to correct the injustice that goes on around him. Although the movie does keep the main themes of the novel like racism and how one person can change the world. The film adds new plot twists and characters that make the story more exciting, but also changes important characters and storylines from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Peekays mom is another character that appeared in both the novel and film, but not in the same context. In both versions Peekays mother suffers a Nervous breakdown, causing Peekay to be sent in boarding school. In the movie she dies after Peekay is sent to boarding school from an unknown cause. While in the book she recovers from her mental breakdown and becomes a Born again Christian. By eliminating the mother, the movie does not show the complicated relationship Peekay had with his mother in the book. An obvious difference between a novel and its movie is the way characters are portrayed. In the movie of The Power of One, the protagonist is portrayed very similar to the novel. In both the novel and film Peekay is portrayed as a courageous hero who faces adversity, and who tries to change the world around him. One thing the movie does not truly show like the book did, is Peekay s desire to become the welterweight champion of the world. If I had to choose between becoming the welterweight champion of the world and taking a law degree at oxford, the boxing would win [Courtenay 463].In the movie Peekays boxing takes a back seat to his desire to help the black people of South Africa . While in the book, Peekay s dream of becoming the welterweight champion of the world is the main focus in the protagonists mind. Morrie is another character that is portrayed differently from the book. In the movie Morrie role is not as prominent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Importance Of Faulkner s Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance... What defines a writer and their ability to deliver a message? Is it their level of eloquence? Or is it the topic that they decided to dedicate their time to writing about? To simply answer, yes and yes. Being a writer does require all of the above, but it necessitates something more. It requires the passion and ardor that one has to bring into their writing. In a time of fear and anguish, most might lose that passion that sparked in them, leaving behind a passionless and hopeless shell. In his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech at the Nobel Banquet, these were the issues William Faulkner had to address. To the future generations of writers that Faulkner was speaking to, they would fulfill his wishes. Over 50 years later, University of Chicago economist, Steven D. Levitt, and New York Times journalist, Stephen J. Dubner, combined their knowledge and skills and created the book, Freakonomics. The book follows an economist, Levitt, as he explores the hidden side of everything and explains it all in a different, unconventional perspective. It takes on the topic of morality and economics as he, along with Dubner, ask and answer many questions such as, which is more dangerous, a gun or a swimming pool? What do schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common? Or why do drug dealers still live with their moms? As the reader can see, these questions aren t the usual conventional ones. It takes on an unprecedented view as Levitt and Dubner research and give a whole new perspective on how the world works. As they answer these unconventional questions, it show the consideration, thoughtfulness, and research that Levitt and Dubner went through in order to give the proper answer. Yet not only do they give the answers but they give a thorough explanation as they navigate the readers through their entire thinking process, showing the passion and deliberation that they put into making this book. Crisis Counselor Skills Skills, Knowledge, and Training Required for Crisis Counselors When counselors choose to be on a disaster response team they need to be aware of the skills and knowledge that is required for the job. The first thing that counselors need to be aware of is the burnout rate of being a disaster counselor. According to Sommer (2008), there is four components that a clinician needs to be an effective disaster counselor. First the clinician needs to have a vast knowledge and training in trauma based counseling, pay attention to all aspects of treatment the conscious and the unconscious, have a reciprocated reverence for the interpersonal climate. Counselors are very important during this time to help counsel the loved ones of the person that lost their life in the disaster. Bender (2002) suggest that this leaves the family not able to have a traditional funeral, especially if the body cannot be found. When dealing with grief clinicians need to actively listen to their clients, provide empathy and openness, and make sure the client is in a situation that is nonjudgemental. Clinicians needs to be trained in these techniques when dealing with disasters that involve death. Clinicians also need to reassure clients that it is okay to vent the uncomfortable feelings the person maybe feeling. Another approach that clinicians needs to be trained in is utilizing the community and training them to help foster comfort to people that are suffering from the disaster. According to Henley, Marshall, Vetter, (2011) the people in the community (such as teachers, law enforcement etc,) can help people with problem solving skills and coping skills if the correct training from a mental health professional. • 9. Gender Deviance In Aristophanes, Catullus, And Euripides How Aristophanes, Catullus, and Euripides Viewed Male Gender Deviance and Their Parallels in Modern Society One modern issue related to gender and sexuality that has roots in ancient cultures is the transgression of gender boundaries, specifically by male individuals. The idea of gender transgression by males is broad; it can include failing to perform one or more aspects of masculinity or, as is more common in modern settings, failing to identify oneself with masculinity at all, even identifying as a woman or some other gender identity. Gender deviance was taboo in ancient Greece and Rome, with certain actions, e.g., consenting to being penetrated, resulting in the loss of the man s citizenship and exile from the community. Not surprisingly, this phenomenon continues to be met with strong negative reactions by many individuals in modern society, including sardonic comments, the ... Studying how the writings of Aristophanes, Catullus, and Euripides approach and describe male gender deviance yields knowledge about Greek and Roman attitudes toward gender and the ways in which these attitudes have shaped how modern Western society views male gender deviance. Aristophanes, the most reactionary of the three ancient authors, critiques, in various ways, men who transgress gender boundaries, ultimately advocating for strict gender boundaries and masculinity as a way to defend against effeminacy and other forms of moral decay in Frogs. Catullus describes masculinity and gender deviance in a way that directly challenges gender norms, but also defends many harmful aspects of masculinity. • 10. Environmentally Sustainable City Of South Australia Environmentally sustainable city has been Adelaide City Council s priority vision and by 2012, carbon emissions have reduced by 60%.1 A city that continues to adapt to climate change, utilizes water and energy efficiently, maintains the natural resources wisely and reduces waste is quite a great challenge for local council.2 However, effective strategies do help in achieving their vision. In August 2004, Adelaide City Council and the State Government of South Australia launched a single stage national housing competition called The Adelaide Affordable Eco Housing Competition. The winning scheme of this competition is designed by Troppo Architects, providing 26 apartments and a cafe as shown in Fig. 1. This eco housing is now located on the south east corner of Whitmore Square which is just few steps away from bus stops, eateries and markets while the free public bus service is provided within the city.3 No doubt that the normal dwelling would integrate the basic principles of adapting human wellbeing and aesthetic pleasure into the design but what makes ecology themed housings deserve to be focused on are their abilities to adapt the climate while benefiting the environment with the eco features. With the aim of reducing carbon emission in the city, the feature of installing energy efficient facilities in the dwellings is a must for Eco housing.4 Photovoltaic panels, part of solar power system are integrated on the roof and eaves to offset common power usage. • 11. Media Bias Analysis Introduction: During this week I investigated many different news sources and different tactics they use. My research has shown the incredibly strong bias that the media has. To get a full grasp of the biases I had to use source diversity. My sources ranged from social media, to television, to web based articles. Through my research, I discovered the effective and prevalent uses of loaded language, social media, sensationalism, bias in quotes, and the role of gatekeepers in media. Example 1: Fox News had a segment on President Donald Trump s milestones in office. Fox News is known for having a Republican bias, and its bias was very prevalent in the use of loaded language. The Angle had an infographic saying that Trump accomplished a soaring economy and deported violent criminal aliens . Fox says soaring which implies that the economy is doing greatly due to Trump, whereas there has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, Trump exposes the strength of the media s gatekeepers and how greatly they can impact which issues are talked about. In the headline for an article Mattingly and Killough wrote Trump tells Dems he s a big loser under GOP tax plan . The poor conditions and lack of opportunities in the 19th century China and the Chinese s hope of accumulating wealth to support their families in China fostered the huge influx of Chinese immigrants to United States. The discovery of gold in California also fuelled many Chinese s dream of fast wealth (112). Due to the need for mass labour stemming from industrialization and high productivity of Chinese labours, employers would enthusiastically hire Chinese labour, which in turn sparked the increasing competition with the local workers and a growing anti Chinese sentiment (114). It is crucial to recognize the huge toll the Chinese Exclusion Act took on Chinese immigrants and Chinese Americans, and the negative influence of racialization it had on immigration policy of other countries. Manning said, I was talking to my platoon sergeant [Webster] and told him that the sergeant major of the Army was coming and I said, I heard the sergeant major of the Army is coming; how about that? These instances can take place at work, school, the military and even at church. But exactly what is sexual exploitation or unwanted sexual behavior? After looking at several definitions for sexual abuse I came across the following definition that I feel will help all of us to better understand what inappropriate sexual behavior is. Some women may even prefer not to report any allegations of being pressured sexually for fear of what might happen to them if they do. Although it is not lawful to retaliate against an individual for exposing employment practices that discriminate many people would seek retaliatory efforts. Therefore there are many women who feel it may be better for them to suffer in silence than to deal with revengeful or vindictive tactics such as being denied promotions or being scorned by other women who may think that the victim is pressing charges for attention. Because of the nature of such unprofessional behavior the victim may find him or herself very alone and no one wants to go through that especially after suffering through the harassment itself. Being sexually abused can have similar effects like rape in which the victim falls prey to depression, shame and guilt. Ritzer uses McDonaldization to describe a sociological phenomenon that is happening in our society. He explains that it becomes demonstrated when a culture adopts the principles of a fast food restaurant. Essentially, the term McDonaldization is the process of rationalization. When Ritzer titled his book The McDonaldization of Society he is actually referring to the rationalization of society. Thus, the use of the word McDonaldization simply indicates that the fast food restaurant is one of many great examples of rationality. For instance, customers face a variety of structural barriers and they follow the norms when they enter a Safeway supermarket for they have to walk down aisles to obtain their desired goods. All of these are ways to control customers at the Safeway supermarkets to act in a manner in which the business wants them to act. The effects of non human technology in supermarkets illustrate how they are controlling customers wants and needs. The idea of a rationalized system can also become inefficient when there are too many regulations, which leads to irrationality. Although Safeway supermarkets find it efficient to stock up on all products, it is not efficient when you have to wade through the mini departments of the deli, the bakery, the fresh produce section, and aisle after aisle just to find what you are looking for. Another example of irrationality is that people know fast food is not good for their health but yet they still eat it, because it is efficient, cheap, and fast. However, in the chapter In the Field O Brien places the blame on an unnamed young soldier who started the enemy attack by turning on his flashlight. Which story is true? Does it matter what is true? According to Jim Neilson, the story of Kiowa s death evokes the notion that for the U.S. Vietnam was a quagmire; his drowning functions almost emblematically to suggest America s deepening entanglement in southeast Asia (193). Whatever the meaning behind Kiowa s story, it certainly fits the requirements for a good war story: there is nothing redeemable in it. Maria Bonn sees the three stories about Kiowa s death ( Speaking of Courage, Notes, and In the Field ) as exemplifying O Brien s relentless investigation of how to tell a true war story (paragraph 39). When you look at all three of these chapters together you can see the progression from what is imagined to what is true or is it the other way around? With Tim O Brien, it is never clear. The chapter Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong is another questionable narrative. Criminal Justice System And The Law System INTRODUCTION Developing information suggests that a criminal justice system gains practical value by generating societal views of fair enforcement and judgement. Particularly, views of practical fairness resulting in views of the system s legality, may promote systemic compliance with applicable law, support with legal institutions and actors, and respect to even negative outcomes. A separate information alludes that a criminal justice system derives realistic value by allocating criminal legal responsibility and punishment according to principles that trail general instincts of justice. Distinctively, views of applicable justice resulting in views of the system s ethical credibility would seem to promote compliance, support, and respect. By contrast, a criminal justice system alleged to be procedurally unfair or basically unjust may incite resistance and agitation, and may lose its capacity to control powerful social and normative influence. Trust in the Law by T.R. Tyler and Y. J. Huo pursues to explain why people eagerly comply with legal authorities. One method by which compliance might be achieved is through the threat of sanctions that would be associated with noncompliance. This avoidance approach, the authors indicate, is less optimal than having people consent without persuasion. Their central notion is that such willingness to comply critically depends upon a strong sense that legal authorities are legitimate. This sense of legitimacy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
