Gender Roles In Murasaki Shikibu Genji
In Murasaki Shikibu Nikki, the author says: To be pleasant, gently, calm and self possessed: this
is the basis of good taste and charm in a woman (Shirane, 450). Women were supposed to act a
certain way, and this diary specifies the boundaries clearly. Most of this is because she herself
was the object of criticism from those around her, despite the popularity of her tales. Another tip
from her is No matter how amorous or passionate you may be, as long as you are straightforward
and refrain from causing others embarrassment, no one will mind (450). If you do not follow
society s guidelines, you will be judged in every movement you make, and people will find fault
with whatever [you] say or do; whether it be how [you] enter a room, how [you] sit down, how
[you] stand up or how [you] take [your] leave (451). She goes on about how she is regarded by
others because of how much she knows, and the rumors that spread about her. People generally
think she is worth making fun of and talking about because she knows Chinese and because she
referenced the Chronicles of Japan, a classic text about Japan, in The Tale of Genji(451).
The Changelings is an interesting monogatari from this time period. The story revolves around two
characters who fall into gender roles different from their sex. Sadaijin s son acted more like a girl.
He became surprisingly shy...painted, played with dolls, and was absorbed with such games as
matching seashells (Willig, 14). His daughter began to act

Assessing the Perceived Image of Citizens about Romanian...
In a society which has become increasingly more complex, the role of Police forces tends to be
versatile. Accordingly, lately, researchers gave a special attention to subjects regarding Police, and
implicitly to the public image of the institution.
Generally, the police image is conceptualized based on three main categories: overall image,
outcomes and process (Mastrofski, 1998). The overall image of police reflects perceptions, feelings
and evaluations about the police in general. As Gallagher, Maguire, Mastrofski, Reisig (2001)
stated, this area includes various general descriptions and analysis of the confidence and trust in the
police (e.g., Hough, Jackson Bradford, 2013; Stanko, Jackson, Bradford Kohl, 2012), satisfaction

The original form proposed by Osgood et. al (1957) was structured on three dimensions: Evaluation,
Potency and Activity, and has been confirmed by previous pan cultural studies (e.g. Heise, 1970;
Osgood, May Miron, 1975, etc.). Evaluation relates to goodness or badness, morality, utility, etc.,
Potency to magnitude, social power, strength, expansiveness, etc., whereas Activity relates to speed,
animation, spontaneity, etc. (Heise, 2010).
Although it was frequently used to measure attitudes (Osgood et al., 1957) or the meaning of
concepts (Doyle Bottomley, 2010; Mindak, 1961), SDS has proven useful in many areas, including
in the assessment of organizational image (de ex. Bonner George, 1988; Van Heerden Puth, 1995),
corporate image, advertising image, brand or service image, also (Smith Albaum, 2005).
In order to measure the meaning of the concept, the semantic differentiator usually uses a five or
seven point scale, based on a list of bipolar paired terms, with opposite meaning. According to their
disposition, attitude or image of the assessed construct, respondents select a point on the interval
for each contrasting pair. Each interval is expressed by quantifiers with certain magnitudes, with a
neutral point as central quantifier (Lopes, Nogueira Martins, Andrade Barros, 2011).

Health Insurance Law Essay
Massachusetts Health Insurance Law Around the month of June the year 2006, a survey that was
carried out revealed that there were close to 375,000 residents of Massachusetts who were
uninsured which sum to about 6% of the total population of the state (Raymond, 2007). Health care
is one of the key needs that any person is required to have. Since it comes at a cost, health insurance
is always a platform to ease the hustle here and there. The health insurance law, chapter 58, was
enacted with the main aim of reducing the percentage of the residents living without health
insurance in Massachusetts (Polestar Communications Strategic Analysis, Associated Industries of
Massachusetts Foundation, 2006). The law was introduced to make sure that both... Show more

This move that was taken by the Massachusetts state has lots of advantages as far as the healthy
well being of the residents is taken into considerations. Some of the top advantages include:
1.Improved Health care
A state that comes up with legislations that are to ensure that all its residents have access to
health care insurance is a state that has health as pillar at its heart. The approach is one of the
effective ones in ensuring that all the residents have access to proper and affordable healthcare
services. When the health care is made accessible to everyone, the entire state of healthcare will
be greatly improved. Having improved healthcare is always a priority and a desire to very many
not only states but even countries across the globe.
2.Control Over Health Services
The state through its laws that were implement safeguards the residents from exploitation by
people who have the aim of making more money from the gap that did exist. The law stipulates the
premium rates through a board which is renewed on an annual basis. This also helps in bringing
order in all matters to do with health care insurance.

Disagreeing With Online Dating
What is one commonality that we can get people to agree with worldwide? This is the fact that
the idea and practice of dating is very difficult. Finding that special someone to share a life with is
something that many people dread because we are never more vulnerable then when we are trying
to date. Traditionally we would have to go through many rigorous and almost ritualistic steps when
trying to find a mate. We would have to put on our best outfit, go somewhere public, and interact
with strangers to try and impress them enough that they do not want to walk away within the first
thirty seconds of meeting you. Within todays society however the ideas of datinghave changed.
Because we have become so reliant on technology to do many of our activities we have also
adapted our methods for dating. We can now search for the perfect partner on the internet. Dating

relieves some of the pressure and time constraints that face to face dating can not. We are also
able to open up our dating pool as online dating provides the potential for interactions across the
globe where traditional dating is restrictive and based on the people who are within our

Burundian Genocide
Burundi s Pre Independence History
The Burundian genocide began in 1962, shortly after Burundi became an independent country. The
CIA factbook begins with Burundi s first democratically elected president in 1993 (CIA). However,
this ignores much of the territory s long, fraught history; it is, in effect, erasure. Without fully
understanding Burundi s past, it is impossible to properly contextualize its present situation. The
modern understanding of Burundi, beginning with it s colonial founding, holds that the country has
a bloody history. Yet, oral histories indicate that Burundi s ethnic groups, the Twa; Hutu
; and Tutsi,
lived together in relative peace before the country s colonization (Krueger Krueger, 2007). In the
late 1800s, the independent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Micombero, who then became Ntare V s prime minister, staged a coup just months later, sending
Ntare V into exile and abolishing the monarchy. This began the period of the creeping genocide, as
Robert Krueger, the U.S. ambassador to Burundi 1994 1996, termed it. He explains, every Hutu
[leader] elected to Parliament...without an opportunity for defense or trial...[was] murdered ... all in
a single night (Krueger Krueger 2). This began a nationwide effort to eliminate Hutus from all
leadership positions including priests, governors, and teachers. It also specifically targeted Hutu
college students. When Belgium withdrew from Burundi they left no education system; it is
estimated that literacy was less than 10 percent and that Burundi had no more than ten university
graduates (Krueger Krueger 26). Thus, the Hutu s ability to draw attention to the attacks were

The Red Pony Analysis
Jody s life changed from a boring farm to a life changing adventure with animals that ended up
coming very close to his heart. The Red Pony, written by John steinbeck is about a young boy
named Jody Tiflin who adventures through is life. Jody is grateful to have a pony that becomes
very important to him in the novel. However he begins to lose that pony, and go through some
tough situations. The main character Jody changes and grows from childhood to adolescence, by
being responsible for the pony, going through the death with Gabilan, and also trying to believe in
Billy through Nellie s birth. Jody becomes smarter and stronger through the novel as well.
To begin with, Jody grows and changes into adolescence by learning responsibility with the horse. It
takes a lot of work that he didn t know how to handle with the pony. An example from the book
that shows how he has lots to do now, and lots of work with the horse is, Jody carried and
brushed until a pile of dead hair lay in the stall...Each time he finished he thought it might have
been done better. (Steinbeck 13) He is now understanding the work that has to be done with the
new horse. He is also learning that he has something else to look forward to, which does prove he
is changing and growing into a new type of lifestyle. Another example from the text is showing
when the pony was left in the rain because he thought it wouldn t rain,it said, From the top of the
ridge he could see Gabilan standing in the coral miserably

Study on Administration Errors for Woodcock-Johnson III...
This study examined administration and scoring errors made by graduate students when
administering the Woodcock Johnson III Tests of Cognitive Abilities (WJ III COG). In the past
studies have been conducted on graduate student errors made on other assessment of cognitive
abilities, such as the Wechsler Scales. This study s findings were similar to previous studies. The
study participants consisted of 36 graduate students who attended a schoolpsychology program at a
metropolitan university. There were 31 females and 5 males, of which there were 30 Caucasian, 4
Latino, 1 Asian and 1 African American. All of the students were first year students, enrolled in
cognitive assessment courses taught by the same professor (Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). All students
were required to administer the WJ III COG 4 times, first to a classmate, and then 3 more times to
volunteers. The first administration for each student was not considered for the study, which
produced 108 testing administrations. These administrations and scoreswere then examined by
advanced level graduate students taught by the same professor. The instrument used for scoring
the administrations was a checklist first created by Schermerhorn and Alfonso, and was designed
to record the frequency and types of errors made during the administration and scoring of the test
(Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). After each of the 108 tests were scored using the checklist, it was found
that there were 500 errors made. While the mean

Lazzaro Four Fun Keys Essay
Lazzaro s Four Fun Keys
Lazzaro s work on emotions and feelings in games identified four different aspects of fun in games
that were labeled the Four Fun Keys.
Hard fun is induced by achievement and attainment of goals in games. Lazzaro associated Hard Fun
with fiero (triumph over adversity).
Lazzaro s Easy Fun is based on the role of intrigue and curiosity in the enjoyment of games. Easy
fun is crucial to maintaining the player s attention and increasing the player s engagement.
Serious fun is based on the generation of a feeling of excitement in the game. Lazzaro also identifies
serious fun as form of escapism that some players seek when playing video games.

purchase intention (H6). While subjective norm also affects purchase intentions directly (H5).

Telluric Screw Research Paper
In the 18th, century many elements were starting to be discovered so scientists faced the problem
of trying to arrange them. At this time the actual masses of the elements could not be measured so
instead they compared them with the mass of hydrogen, or the relative atomic mass. Firstly in 1862
Alexandre Beguyer de Chancoutois arranged the elements into a three dimensional form of
classification called the telluric screw. The telluric screw plotted the elements on the outside of a
cylinder where one complete turn corresponded to an atomic weight increase of 16. This resulted in
curtain elements appearing on the same vertical line as other element after one full turn of the
cylinder. These elements were elements that had similar properties to other elements. This was very
helpful in the development of the periodic table because it was the first known time that the

The periodic table is important for scientists today because it is an easy way to order elements
based on trends and because of this we can quickly identify the trends and properties of an
element just by looking at its position on the table. The table is useful for students and scientists
because it helps predict the types of chemical reactions that are likely for an element. Rather than
memorise facts and figures for each element, a quick glance at the table reveals a lot about the
reactivity of an element, whether it is likely to conduct electricity, whether it is hard or soft, and
many other characteristics. Not only does the table enable us to find out properties of known
elements, but it can predict the properties of elements not yet discovered. Mendeleev was the first
person to leave gaps in the periodic table for elements not yet discovered, so we can predict in
much detail the properties of the element that would fit in the gaps that have been left

immemorial. The present study was carried out to evaluate the antimicrobial and antioxidant
activities of leaves from Elephantopus scaber by using different solvents (ethyl alcohol, acetone and
aqueous). The ethyl alcohol, acetone and aqueous extracts of leaves were subjected to
phytochemical analyses, which revealed the presence of alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, saponins,
steroids, tannins, coumarins, quinones and glycosides in most of the selected of leaves useing
different solvents. Ethyl alcohol ,acetone and aqueous extracts of leaves were investigated for in

This system solved many drawbacks have emerged during the extensive use of Cre recombinase in

They depended on the linker used by Jullien et al (19). We depended on the designing criteria of the
linker for efficiently separating domains in bifunctional proteins (40). They reported to use
rapamycin dependent dimerization or Й‘ helix interactions for enhancing posttranslational
association between the two fragments. Some trials used artificially designed antiparallel Leucine
Zipper to assist protein fragment reconstitution (41). In our study, we used yeast GCN4 coil/coil
Leucine Zipper domain which previously used by some split Cre systems (19). This Leucine Zipper
does not interfere with normal cellular physiology (30). Each protein fragment behaves as an
independent protein. It has different kinetics than the other protein fragment. We tested the
recombinase activity on synthetic construct and on mammalian genome. We have optimized the
system to choose the best spatial and temporal control of the Cre recombinase. Meanwhile, the
reconstituted CRE recombination was not present in all cells. We had to sort cells expressed both
nCre and cCre fragments. There are two possibilities for this finding. First, the reconstituted CRE is
too low to induce complementation. Second, there is difference in the expression pattern between
the two promoters in each cell due to epigenetic factors.

examples of these cultural differences can be given in describing some clients that I worked with.
The first individual with the most differences was an 60 year old African American, male lawyer
who had previous criminal convictions and was highly addicted to multiple substances. In this
example, this individual was different from me in every category except our religious
backgrounds. He grew up in poverty in a city setting and was able to claw his way out of that
situation and was able to help others who had a similar criminal history in his career as a judge.
However, as his relationships with his ex wife appeared his addiction came back. I enjoyed

a woman I worked with on multiple occasions that had experienced multiple levels of abuse.

Kim Jong il Kim Jong il was the supreme leader of North Korea from July of 1994 until his
untimely death on December 17th, 2011. His reign as dictator is defined by most as successful
but he will go down as one of the most dangerous dictators the world has ever seen. The people of
North Korea looked up to Kim Jong il as a god like figure. No one really knows the exact year that
Kim Jong il was born. He was born in either 1941 or 1942 in Vyatskoye, Soviet Union. His birth
name is actually not Kim Jong il it is Yuri Irsenovich Kim. His father, Kim Il sungwas a commander
of the Soviet 88th brigade. Kim Jong il did not move to Pyongyang, North Korea until 1945 after
World War II has ended. Kim Jong il s rise to power began in July of 1961 when he joined the
Workers Party, which is the official ruling party of North Korea (Biography). The beliefs of the
Workers Party were based off of Stalinst Russia before Kim Jong il and Kim Il sung expanded
on those beliefs. Kim Jong il eventually was elected as head of the Workers Party Central

McCarthy utilizes food as a sign of hope. Throughout the novel the father and son are constantly
fighting the struggle of running low on food. When they find the bunker of food the text is full
of short sentences Canned hams. , Corned beef which emphasizes the father s joy and almost
disbelief of how hopeful the future will be with the abundance of good. The way the father also
repeatedly says oh my god, when throughout the book he maintains a fairly non religious view,
shows how it finding this food gives the father hope. Other than the boy the father has hope in
very few things. But one thing which is shown throughout The Road is the father s sense of
morals. The father always reassures the boy and himself that they are the good guys which gives
them the hope to keep persevere because they are, to the father, keeping goodness in the world
alive, carrying the flame. Cormac McCarthy presents the cannibals as a lost hope in The Road.
They are almost only referred to as the bad guys and are described as if they are animals with no

Research Paper On How To Reduce Bounce Rate
Simple Tweaks to reduce bounce rate by 50%
A website s rank is dependent on many factors. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is done in
regular basis to maintain the ranking. There are two types of SEO and those are On page and Off
page SEO. Bounce rate comes under Off page SEO and it is better to have less bounce rate. The
amount of time user spends on your website is taken into consideration by Google search engine
and it decides whether to use that page for showing in the next searches. It is pretty important that
the content is unique and design of website is user friendly. Let s discuss some tweaks to reduce
the bounce rate.

Social networking is the process of communicating and sharing information with others within
online services based on cloud computing technologies. Nowadays, there are more than 200 social
networks [8], not including social networks, which created internally by organizations to serve their
employees, students, scientists, or members.
Nowadays, people has the opportunity to communicate and sharing information through various
applications and services: social networking sites(SNS), wikis, blogs and microblogging services,
News boards, rating platforms, newsfeeds, video platforms. These services and platforms go far
beyond the old text based web pages. As it offers a variety of opportunities for people [9].
In addition, participating in these networks requires two steps. The first one is to sign up for your
own account. The second step is to create your profile and fill it with your personal information,
interests, hobbies, work history, and educational background. This will help you find people with
common experiences or histories.
Once you create your profile, you will be ready to meet the world of virtual online communication.

The Dystopian Concept Of Beholder And Watchdog2 By George...
3.Orwell: A society without privacy In order to analyse deeply about the dystopian concept in
Beholder and Watchdog2, here is another example game named Orwell, which basically express
same dystopian thoughts as Watchdogs series. It released on 20th October 2016, which developed

Even if this Orwell system looks so terrible, however the original intention of creating this system
was good. With players exploring of the game and collecting the information that drawn from
textual clues, they will know the truth and history of this surveillance system. The creator of
Orwell set two human elements position to achieve mutual constraint and also aim to restrict
Orwell s power. One element is investigator, which is the role of players, they only can investigate
all the personal information, personal accounts and electronic equipment of target persons, and then
select the suspicious information to submit. Another element is advisor who is a government
insider and cannot get any information of target person. They only know some key information that
submitted by investigator and they will speculate to track down a criminal by analyzing these
information. But actually this mutual constraint cannot get to the expected effect. Because
investigator only can investigate target person who is recognized as potential danger, however it is
hard to define potential . Finally more and more person added to the target list, Orwell become to a
surveillance network which spy on every citizen. Turning now to the question of the connection
between game and dystopian thoughts. Dystopian thoughts are parts of game narrative, according

The Causes And Consequences Of The Crusades
The Crusades were indeed about power and politics, in terms of its motivations and consequences.
Political motivations were significant in shaping the Crusades, as evident from the rivalry for
power between the Christians and the Muslims, as well as internally within the Christian world, and
the launching of the Crusadesby Pope Urban II who harbored political interests in establishing his
authority in the Christian world. However, it is wrong to say that the Crusades had nothing to do
with religion because whilst the political and power motivations to prevent the Muslims from
gaining any more Christian territory, and to fuel European expansionism was present, the key
driving force in most parties was religious feeling. Motivations for the... Show more content on

Most Rewarding Occupation Research Paper
Most Rewarding Occupation Reflection I believe when it comes down to picking out what
occupation is the most rewarding would have to be a police officer. Police officers have to
always be ready for any situation that may arise in their city. Some time they can be thrown in
scary situations like teenager wreck or accidents with small kids. These are the type of times
when a cop has to be mentally able to handle the situation and provide the most help he can. I one
day want to be a state trooper so I know now after this paper that there is a lot to look forward to.

The Cold War ( 1945-1989 )
The Cold War (1945 1989) was essentially a period in which fear ran rampant. Everyone in
America, from the young children to the President, was afraid. People were afraid because they
believed their freedom and security was being threatened by communist spies. They were afraid
that communism would take over the world and wipe out democracy. They were afraid that a
nuclear attack would occur and render them and the American economy helpless. In the midst of all
their fear, President Dwight D. Eisenhowerwas elected and managed to allay their fears by
implementing new policies and expanding FDR s New Deal, which was instrumental in ending the
Great Depression. During the Cold War, people all over the world were in a constant state of fear:
...the world is suffering from a multiplicity of fears. We fear the men in the Kremlin, we fear
what they will do to our friends around them; we are fearing what unwise investigators will do to
us here at home as they try to combat subversion or bribery or deceit within. We fear depression;
we fear the loss of jobs (Document A). In this document, President Eisenhower, while speaking at a
press conference, acknowledges the fears that are affecting the American people and the people
around the world. In doing so, he is showing that he is aware of the situation that the people are
enduring, as well as warning them about the consequences of acting solely out of fear: All of these,

Queen Elizabeth I once said, To be a king and wear a crown is a thing more glorious to them that

Women and the Media
The Perfect Female Body:
Long before beauty pageants, Barbie dolls, and extra ordinarily beautiful girls, came about the
idea of the female body. Whether you are a believer of creationalism, scientology, or
evolutionism, somehow we all came about with the perception of the perfect female. Women
have always been seen, and portrayed as a sex symbol, and usually the disobedient one. Dating
back to B.C and the story of Adam and Eve, Eve was the naked one who bit into the fruit that god
told her was forbidden. Why couldn t it have been Adam that caused such scandal, and was the
cause for destruction, and crime in the world, and not Eve? From the believed beginning of time,

Everyday of their lives, people are bombarded with advertisements pushing to sell them
something, or broadcasting a new and upcoming television program. The average American sees
as many as 300 500 advertisements per day. Some see as many as 1,200 a day. (Jean Kilbourne,
Ed. D.) General media is tied with public relations, and has become a source of entertainment to the
public eye. Women are usually seen as eye candy, to attract the male heterosexual audience. Men
and woman are usually portrayed in different ways, on national television, and Hollywood films.
Men usually play the tough guy, macho man roles, while the women are predominately represented
as white, young, glamorous, heterosexual, and less influential then men. (Campbell and Carilli,
2005) Attractive women are usually displayed in both male and female advertisements, and play a
double role. Women will think that if they purchase this product, they will resemble the model
advertising the product, and the men are tricked to think that if they purchase the product, that they
will attract women like the ones advertising the product. This is the sex sells propaganda tactic.
Models in the advertisements aren t supposed to look like the average, ordinary people. To sell
products, advertisers use computer generation tools, to erase any flaws, to appeal to a consumer.
The goals of print media are usually reached, and out to target the younger audience. According to a

The Constitution is the very first concrete document that lasted in this country. It was made by the
very first citizens and it was made with pride. Before the constitution came to life the United States
was looked upon, by many nations, similarly to a child attempting to grow up too fast. Great
Britain, the country that the constitution freed us from, did not think the United States was going to
make it alone. Great Britain was right. The United States could not make it alone. The United States
needed something to help it along. They needed the constitution. Because of this strong link
between the constitution and the survival of the United States, many patriots, including Shepherd,

attacks on the constitution as personal attacks. In this excerpt from the speech, Shepherd is found

Stress In High School Students
Do you ever get an agonizing feeling when you have multiple assignments and tests to study for?
Do you dwell over this exhausting consciousness? Yes, this is the well known perception of stress
and anxiety. Feeling overpressured in a school setting, at home, and fearing that these students will
not get into or fail out of collegehas consumed teenagers minds.
Many High School Students are affected by different types of stress, many of which are associated
with parents and educators. Students are pressured to do well in school and are bombarded with
innumerable, challenging assignments, homework, and tests. These students fear failure resulting
in moderate to severe stress. Tessy Jose statistically proves this when she conducted a survey for
high school students. 80.2% of students experience moderate level of academic stress and only
6.2% students have severe academic stress (Jose).
Many educators are not fully aware of the stress they set on their students. Educators should be
aware that 10 percent to 15 percent of students experience chronic debilitating stress caused by
school (Amen Reglin). Teachers are not providing the support necessary to get their students
through the tough pressures of high school. They continue to assign homework and give tests that
the students are not ready for

Edvard Munch Scream
For this purpose of this analysis, I chose to do a piece of artwork that I viewed as very different.
The painting is titled Scream. It was created by an artist named Edvard Munch in the year of 1893.
Munch was a Norwegian artist. This painting has a great significance in Munch s life. This painting
was created during the time of Sigmund Freud. I found this very interesting since Munch himself
lived a very tough life himself. Munch began to express his tormented inner world through his
artistic creations, giving birth to an art style that would later be known as Expressionism(Art
Analysis). Expressionism is defined as a form of art in which visual appearances are distorted to
express psychological or emotional states (Getlein, 551). I believe that Scream may have been the
very beginning of this form of art, since Scream evokes such an emotional response from its
viewers.
The most painful event in Edvard Munch s life was the premature death of his mother from
tuberculosis when he was five years old (Art Analysis). Munch new heartache at such a young age.
Munch also had an older sister named Sophie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tempera shares qualities with both watercolor and oil paint (Getlein, 161). Munch probably used
tempera because it could withstand the test of time, maintaining its colors without being darkened
by age. Tempera is defined as a paint in which the vehicle is emulsion, which is a stable mixture
of an aqueous liquid with an oil, fat, wax, or resin (Getlein, 161). The other product Munch used in
this painting is casein paint. Casein paints dry to a matte, brittle film that is insoluble in water and
impervious to most paint strippers (Casein Paint). Munch probably chose to use this medium since
if could encase and attach to the tempera paint, providing a protective covering. The painting was
done on cardboard since the casein paint would have been too brittle for regular

T. S. Eliot is considered to be one of the most prominent poets, critics and playwrights of his time
and his works are said to have promoted to reshape modern literature . He was born in 1888 in St.
Louis Missouri and studied at Harvard and Oxford. It was at Harvard where he met his guide Ezra
Pound, and under the encouragement of Pound, Eliot expands his writing abilities and publish his
first poem: the love song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Eliot became an Englandcitizen in 1925 and

She displayed the meaning of modern to other people, and mocked those old fogies, defenders of
older order now locked away behind the shelves.
Just this short poem caused much discussion, and the people s opinions are definitely opposite.
1. Some think that the poem fully demonstrates the impact of the woman s presence in the modern
society. It shows the confidence of the new profound woman and how the older generation, or her
aunts , reacted to the new movement.
2. Others think that Nancy s liberation and rebellion just a kind of superficial and ironical one.
The poem presents an ironic portrait of a liberated new woman whose modern attitudes are
expressed in trivial actions. And the final line of the poem: the army of unalterable law indicates
nothing will change, the faith, though locked in the shelves, will never be destroyed, or lost. It will
be kept well and come down. That is the strength of tradition.
Both of them sounds reasonable, now I will analyze these two, and give my own explanation to the
poem.
Firstly, I want to share with you something information about the poem, I think it will help us to
understand the poem better.

Mealworm Lab Report
In our fourth and final lab for Biology 100, we are dealing with the beetle larva mealworms. This
worm like animal is, in fact, not a worm; they are larva for the tenebrionid beetle. These larvae
are most commonly used in order to feed household pets. For example: reptiles, fish, and birds.
Tenebrio larvae are also considered pests to the most businesses. This is why they re given a pest s
name mealworm . Mealworms are known for burrowing themselves in grains or flours and
completely infesting businesses inventory. Tenebrio larvae will eat almost anything; they ll
consume rotten wood, grasses, small plants, other insects, and even feces. Since meals worms are

In sum, we had a total of four different variables: pure cornstarch, natural raw wheat germ, extra
virgin olive oil, and peanut oil. Our null hypothesis was that the larvae would have no preference
toward any variable whatsoever. However, our alternate hypothesis was that the mealworms would
prefer the habitat where the wheat and olive oil was present. For experiment 1, where my lab
group and I predicted the mealworms would prefer the natural raw wheat germ rather than the pure
cornstarch. This was determined by the food preferences of the adult version of the larva
(tenebrionid beetle). These beetles love to eat grains and flours, so in turn this led us to our
hypothesis for experiment 1. The mealworms would have a bias towards the wheat grain rather
than the pure cornstarch. For experiment 2, my lab group and I predicted that the mealworms
would prefer the olive oil rather than the peanut oil. This was determined by assumption that the
stronger scent of the olive oil would attract the mealworms towards that specific environment. This
would only be plausible if mealworms used a sense of smell in determining their environmental
preferences. The mealworms would have a bias towards the olive oil rather than the peanut

Jim Crow Laws And Apartheid
As a result of colonialism, the resistance in both the United States and South Africa was rising.
Throughout the history of the African civil rights movement are lessons that taught: Nationalism
has been tested in the people s struggles . . . and found to be the only antidote against foreign rule
and modern imperialism (Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom 2008, 156). By comparing and
contrasting the Jim Crow Laws and apartheid, we are able to shape our understanding of
conflicts, activism, and reform. In both countries, the schism between Africans and their
government worsened. To illustrate: [The Emancipation Proclamation] ended [slavery] . . . , but
blacks . . . had more in common with African American slaves . . . than with the [Caucasian
businessmen] (Bausum 2012, 19). Blinded by racial prejudice, Congress passed Jim Crow Laws
establishing a hierarchy based on the plantation mentality and in 1948, the National Party (the
Nats) made apartheid the official law (Bausum 2012, 14). In fact, both forms of segregation
enforced poverty for coloured people and ensured [that Caucasians had better quality] schools,
hospitals, and other public services (Rose 2011, 12). For example, African American garbage men
s insufficient salary was based on their garbage routes rather than an hourly wage (Bausum 2012,
14). Similarly, black South African workers received inadequate pay and the law outlawed strikes
and the formation of unions. In both cases, full time employees remained

The Social Gospel By John Lewis
The social gospel was the biggest inspiration and influence for Civil Rights leader, John Lewis.
Which is prevalent throughout the first two books, of the March trilogy, written by Andrew Aydin
and John Lewis himself. The Bible made its mark on Lewis when he was young farm boy. Leading
him to the social gospel which started him down the path of nonviolence, and longing not just for
personal reform but for social reform. As the Civil Rights movements became bigger, and as the
philosophy of which John Lewis taught spread, others were inspired by the social gospel. At a
very young age John Lewis love for the gospel was born. At the age of four his uncle gifted him
his first Bible for Christmas. Even though he was too young to read it for himself; the words that
his mother read to him, had a strong impact. He said, I ll never forget my mother reading aloud
to me the first words in that book In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth (Lewis
and Aydin March Book one 26). By age five he could read the Bible himself, and the messages
began to shape, and impact him even more. John Lewis then wanted to be a preacher, so he
began preaching to the chickens on his farm, with soulful messages. Blessed are the meek: for
they shall inherit the earth. [...] Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy (Lewis and
Aydin March Book one 27). Little did he know, that what he preached to the chickens were
molding his future. Those words are what he was going to stand for, his morals. What he was
going to be known for, what will become his determination, and will drive him for years to
come. There was one verse in particular that did stand out to Lewis, John 1:29: Behold the lamb
of God, which taketh away the sin of the world (KJV). In this verse the lamb of God is referring
to Jesus, whom sacrifices himself to take away the sin of every person and save every person.
There is a strong connection between John Lewis and Jesus Christ. Foreshadowing, that John
Lewis believes his purpose is to liberate the lives of African Americans. The idea of the social
gospel was introduced to John Lewis for the first time when he heard Martin Luther King Jr. give a
sermon over the radio. Lewis stated: Dr. King s

Review Of Hairspray By John Waters
From Grease to Rent, musical comedies have been known to enlighten viewers on specific issues
while keeping the context of the musical pleasurable and easy to enjoy. The 2007 musical film
Hairspray is a satire of Baltimore in the early 1960 s while going through the Civil Rights
movement. Through this romantic comedy, the agon of African American civil rights and other
power struggles among race gender, and class are depicted through certain comic techniques to keep
the musical lighthearted but meaningful.
The 2007 play, Hairspray, is based off of a 2002 Broadway musical which was ultimately based off
the 1988 comedy film by John Watersalso named Hairspray. It begins in 1962 just before the Civil
Rights movements took place. A plump teenager named Tracy Turnblad wants to audition for a

Tracy fights to make the show integrated, causing Negro Day on the show to be an everyday

Mandatory Drug Testing for Welfare Recipients
Introduction
Mandatory drug testing for welfare recipients is a controversial issue. Should the government hold
people accepting government entitlement s accountable for illegal drug use or would this type of
action cross the boundary of civil liberties into an invasion of privacy? The government has a
vested interest in getting welfare recipients back into the working population. Holding welfare
recipients accountable for illicit drug use only ensures the government s monetary investment in
human resources is protected. Mandatory drug testing for welfare recipients would be beneficial to
the state despite its initial cost to initiate the program.

In 1999, Michigan instituted mandatory drug test for all welfare regardless of suspicion. But
this kind of testing was struck down in as unconstitutional, discouraging other states (Bowers,

Russia Is Wrought With Inconsistencies And Discord
The history of Russia is wrought with inconsistencies and discord. Flawed with unjust social
constructs and plagued constantly by the dichotomous relationship between authority and the
people, Russia, since it s upbringing, had always been one step behind it s eastern neighbors. And
in this rat race to stand among the Europeans, the identity and essence of Russiawas always in a
state of question. As a result, Russia was constantly struggling to find it s place within a global
narrative. It was Russian philosopher Petr Chaadaev, who in 1829, wrote, We do not belong to any
of the great families of the human race. We are neither of the West nor of the East, and we have the
traditions of neither. It is a wonder that Chaadaev, in the years of such turbulent changes, was able
to identify such metaphysical traits of the nation. But while Chaadaev highlights the indisputable
sui generis nature of Russia in context with the European nations, perhaps it was too presumptuous
to say that this uniqueness resulted in the lack of culture and tradition from both East and West. As
the three momentous periods of Russia, the formation, the imperial, and the formation of the soviet,
may suggest, rather than a nation outside of East or West, Russia is an amalgamation of elements
from both, existing between the dichotomous East and West. Russia before the Russians was a

one point, the pack felt as though they were safe with a new warren in an exposed place, but Fiver
ended up saving them from certain death. Fiver constantly sticks to his instincts and does not
change his mind, due to other people s opinions. He is definitely an important asset for the warren.
Overall, I did not like Watership Down, due to the fact that I constantly feel weighed down reading

Richard Adams Watership Down when inspected under a magnifying glass. From those many

The Role Of Women s Video Games
When discussing the role of women in video games, it is important to establish what an acceptable
female character is. An acceptable female character has her own motivations that are not dependent
on a male character, is not overtly sexualized, and has a multi dimensional personality. A well
written femalecharacter has a storyline that is independent of other malecharacters and does not
serve to further male storylines. The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog, follows Joel as he
leads Ellie, a young girl, across a post apocalyptic world. Ellie, rather than existing as a tool to
further Joel s man pain, acts on her own inhibitions. Ellie also becomes a playable character at
certain points and Alexandra Neonakis, part of the team that created the game, states that these
are some of the most important plot points (JAMSTEW, 2015). The story itself focuses on the
fact that she may contain the cure to the infection that has riddled the United States, turning
people into a zombie like state. While some may see the relationship of Joel and Ellie as merely
Joel using Ellie for his own purposes, it is more of a mutual relationship. With the influence of
Joel and other factors, Ellie goes on a journey from a damsel in distress to a fully capable and
complex character , states Neonakis (JAMSTEW, 2015). The game attempted to showcase a
relationship between man and women where each needed each other for support and to improve
themselves. A women s sexuality can be an integral part

Michiko Takahashie Diary Analysis
Hello diary. My name is Michiko Takahashi and I am fifteen years old. I live on a very small
farm on the outskirts of Vancouver, British Columbia. I went to Prince of Wales secondary
school. I absolutely love photography so there will definitely be photos included in my journal. I
have a little sister named Akiko which means bright child and a little brother named Kazuhiko
which means harmonious prince . We call him Kiki. My older brother s name is Daichi which
means great wisdom . I am writing in this diarybecause I can write whatever I want to, for example,
my thoughts and feelings, and nobody can judge me. I can write my opinions and thoughts here
without my parents judging me. Sometimes our ideas clash, but I love them anyway.... Show more

I really couldn t write yesterday because my annoying, older brother found out about my diary.
He stole it and hid it. I wonder if he read it. I highly doubt it because I have a sturdy lock on it,
and my diary wasn t completely shredded up. It was completely unharmed which I found really
weird. He also denied ever taking it which didn t help things at all for him because I found my
diary sitting on his bed. I wasn t even snooping through his room. I couldn t find my diary and
was panicking, and when I was walking past Daichi s room, I saw it sitting right out in the open on
his bed. Thank goodness it was still shut.

I really hate the way that Japanese people are treated in Vancouver right now.
I saw some signs today and they completely ruined my day. I am honestly so terrified of being
killed, or taken to internment camps. I just want to stay where I am and never go out again. If
anyone of Japanese descent went into any of the restricted areas, they would be put into prison.
Because they are Japanese, the sentence would probably be extremely unfair. Actually since
Mother lost her job a few months ago (only because she is Japanese) she was considering
homeschooling me and my siblings. This would be nice, as we wouldn t have to go out of our
home. With our current financial situation that isn t possible, which is very

The Wine Of Wine And Wine
Picture this: a star filled night after a long day, its time for some relaxation. It is time to go to the
wine shelve, pick a great bottle of wine and then pour a glass. Swirling the glass and an aroma
begins to waft, expelling a polite bouquet of fruit and spice. This starts a chain reaction to the nose
that then sends a sensation to start the mouth salivating. With the first sip, the sensation of the
acidity and body of the winetickles the tongue, the flavors intensify as if each sip is a building
block and layering each flavor atop the next. A pleasant state of relaxation occurs giving the
sense of euphoria. Many people are getting into wine and wine making because the amount of
marketing that is bombarding consumer. Throughout the growing market of the wine industry
more and more people seem to be getting into the wine scene. Wine making has been around for
seven thousand years, not always was it as palatable as what we see modern day wines (Philips,
2000). Throughout the decades wine has been cultivated, pressed or smashed, and siphoned into
what we know as the modern day wine. Wine is being made more accessible to us from a local
and global standpoint allowing consumer to be able to get wines from distances that would have
seemed impossible before. People enjoy wine and the way it looks, the way it smells, and the way
it tastes. The wine industry over the past years have really began to grab hold of that intention and
feed off of it. A few ways that the

Company provides its customers with multichannel access to consumer goods and services, and

Ethical Issues:
While Walgreens is exposed to all the general ethical conundrums of the business world, the highly
regulated Pharmacies and Drug Stores industry does not give much room for them to act unethically.
Recent Events:
Placed within an industry being pressured by reimbursement rates, plagued by market saturation,
and in constant fear of government legislation, Walgreens is trying to pursue new avenues to
promote company growth. In order to promote market share growth in New York, Walgreens
acquired the drugstore chain Duane Reade in 2010 (WAG to Acquire NY Institution Duane Reade,
2010). Walgreens also recently expanded their online presence in May of 2011 with the acquisition
of drugstore.com (Walgreens Co.). While Walgreens also focuses on traditional organic store
growth, these actions exemplify their large focus on promoting company growth through new
avenues.
Along with the positive growth related developments, Walgreens is being faced with large industry
pressures. Walgreens is currently in a public dispute with the PBM company Express Scripts. In a
June 21, 2011 press release, Walgreens stated that contract renewal negotiations with pharmacy
benefit manager Express Scripts, Inc. (NASDAQ:ESRX) have been unsuccessful, and as a result

Rocking Infant Poor And Unlucky Travelers By Jonathon Swift
Writing of devouring infant poor and unlucky travelers, Jonathon Swift satirically writes of the
tyranny of England. The 18th century began with a great struggle between Ireland and England.
The world power of England encroached on the rights of the Irish including monitoring their right to
their own parliament and regulating their trade clearly benefitting the English. Englandhad left
Irelandstarving and impoverished. Jonathon Swift, an author at the time, wrote several essays
intending to spite the English and call the Irish to action to fight this oppression. The Irish did not
respond. Terry Eagleton and Daniel Coleman s theories prove that in his attempt to move Ireland to
action Swift in actuality pacified their need to rebel again the encroaching English. His literature
provided the humanization to prevent violence, the information to prevent further action, and the
vicarious experiences that fulfilled the peasants for retribution. It will be my pleasure to discuss,
as Derrida would argue, that because Swift s essays can be centered on both sparking and abating
an uprising the structure of the essays have been destroyed and therewith their meaning. Eagleton
said, If masses are not thrown a few novels, they may react by throwing up a few barricades.
(Eagleton 45) Eagleton is speaking here about the start of studying English as a subject, but would
not Swift s essays have the same effect? Eagleton states that there is something humanizing and

daughter Rayna Interiano Gomez a second grader at Cora Kelly School. Reyna had spent the
weekend with her father and the mother reported conflicting with the father as to the way he

two photos of a circular purplish bruise just below the left breast area of the child and a second

Mkt1 Week 2 Individual Assignment
Part1/2 Design has factored a great amount in my life. It has told me what to choose and what
not to choose in clothing, grocery, and book stores. Design influences me in these places
because it helps me to be aware of what I m buying and what is physically appealing to me as a
consumer. One time I was at the grocery store with my mother, and I bought 20oz Fuji water
bottles for the both of us. While I was in line, waiting to pay for the water bottles, I started to think
of why the company of Fuji water shaped their bottles rectangular. Was it easier to hold? Was it just
a slimmer and satisfying design? Was it different tasting water? What made me buy this bottle
compared to other water bottles such as Aquamarine or the Great Value brand? These were the
questions that running through my head. All these questions are what company s designers think
of when trying to get consumers to buy their products.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I went to H M once, I felt that the design for the pants and shirts were unappealing to me.
Instead of having a zipper as conventional jeans and pants would have, these had buttons to mend
the pants. As a designer, it would be genius for someone to have buttons more than a zipper. It
gives it old fashion look when it use to be buckle and button era (1600 s). With companies using
different designs, this would cause a certain demographic to attract to this work of

  • 2. Gender Roles In Murasaki Shikibu Genji In Murasaki Shikibu Nikki, the author says: To be pleasant, gently, calm and self possessed: this is the basis of good taste and charm in a woman (Shirane, 450). Women were supposed to act a certain way, and this diary specifies the boundaries clearly. Most of this is because she herself was the object of criticism from those around her, despite the popularity of her tales. Another tip from her is No matter how amorous or passionate you may be, as long as you are straightforward and refrain from causing others embarrassment, no one will mind (450). If you do not follow society s guidelines, you will be judged in every movement you make, and people will find fault with whatever [you] say or do; whether it be how [you] enter a room, how [you] sit down, how [you] stand up or how [you] take [your] leave (451). She goes on about how she is regarded by others because of how much she knows, and the rumors that spread about her. People generally think she is worth making fun of and talking about because she knows Chinese and because she referenced the Chronicles of Japan, a classic text about Japan, in The Tale of Genji(451). The Changelings is an interesting monogatari from this time period. The story revolves around two characters who fall into gender roles different from their sex. Sadaijin s son acted more like a girl. He became surprisingly shy...painted, played with dolls, and was absorbed with such games as matching seashells (Willig, 14). His daughter began to act ... • 3. Assessing the Perceived Image of Citizens about Romanian... In a society which has become increasingly more complex, the role of Police forces tends to be versatile. Accordingly, lately, researchers gave a special attention to subjects regarding Police, and implicitly to the public image of the institution. Generally, the police image is conceptualized based on three main categories: overall image, outcomes and process (Mastrofski, 1998). The overall image of police reflects perceptions, feelings and evaluations about the police in general. As Gallagher, Maguire, Mastrofski, Reisig (2001) stated, this area includes various general descriptions and analysis of the confidence and trust in the police (e.g., Hough, Jackson Bradford, 2013; Stanko, Jackson, Bradford Kohl, 2012), satisfaction with ... The original form proposed by Osgood et. al (1957) was structured on three dimensions: Evaluation, Potency and Activity, and has been confirmed by previous pan cultural studies (e.g. Heise, 1970; Osgood, May Miron, 1975, etc.). Evaluation relates to goodness or badness, morality, utility, etc., Potency to magnitude, social power, strength, expansiveness, etc., whereas Activity relates to speed, animation, spontaneity, etc. (Heise, 2010). Although it was frequently used to measure attitudes (Osgood et al., 1957) or the meaning of concepts (Doyle Bottomley, 2010; Mindak, 1961), SDS has proven useful in many areas, including in the assessment of organizational image (de ex. Bonner George, 1988; Van Heerden Puth, 1995), corporate image, advertising image, brand or service image, also (Smith Albaum, 2005). In order to measure the meaning of the concept, the semantic differentiator usually uses a five or seven point scale, based on a list of bipolar paired terms, with opposite meaning. According to their disposition, attitude or image of the assessed construct, respondents select a point on the interval for each contrasting pair. Each interval is expressed by quantifiers with certain magnitudes, with a neutral point as central quantifier (Lopes, Nogueira Martins, Andrade Barros, 2011). As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Health Insurance Law Essay Massachusetts Health Insurance Law Around the month of June the year 2006, a survey that was carried out revealed that there were close to 375,000 residents of Massachusetts who were uninsured which sum to about 6% of the total population of the state (Raymond, 2007). Health care is one of the key needs that any person is required to have. Since it comes at a cost, health insurance is always a platform to ease the hustle here and there. The health insurance law, chapter 58, was enacted with the main aim of reducing the percentage of the residents living without health insurance in Massachusetts (Polestar Communications Strategic Analysis, Associated Industries of Massachusetts Foundation, 2006). The law was introduced to make sure that both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Disagreeing With Online Dating What is one commonality that we can get people to agree with worldwide? This is the fact that the idea and practice of dating is very difficult. Finding that special someone to share a life with is something that many people dread because we are never more vulnerable then when we are trying to date. Traditionally we would have to go through many rigorous and almost ritualistic steps when trying to find a mate. We would have to put on our best outfit, go somewhere public, and interact with strangers to try and impress them enough that they do not want to walk away within the first thirty seconds of meeting you. Within todays society however the ideas of datinghave changed. Because we have become so reliant on technology to do many of our activities we have also adapted our methods for dating. • 6. Burundian Genocide Burundi s Pre Independence History The Burundian genocide began in 1962, shortly after Burundi became an independent country. The CIA factbook begins with Burundi s first democratically elected president in 1993 (CIA). However, this ignores much of the territory s long, fraught history; it is, in effect, erasure. Without fully understanding Burundi s past, it is impossible to properly contextualize its present situation. The modern understanding of Burundi, beginning with it s colonial founding, holds that the country has a bloody history. Yet, oral histories indicate that Burundi s ethnic groups, the Twa; Hutu ; and Tutsi, lived together in relative peace before the country s colonization (Krueger Krueger, 2007). • 8. Study on Administration Errors for Woodcock-Johnson III... This study examined administration and scoring errors made by graduate students when administering the Woodcock Johnson III Tests of Cognitive Abilities (WJ III COG). In the past studies have been conducted on graduate student errors made on other assessment of cognitive abilities, such as the Wechsler Scales. This study s findings were similar to previous studies. The study participants consisted of 36 graduate students who attended a schoolpsychology program at a metropolitan university. There were 31 females and 5 males, of which there were 30 Caucasian, 4 Latino, 1 Asian and 1 African American. All of the students were first year students, enrolled in cognitive assessment courses taught by the same professor (Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). All students were required to administer the WJ III COG 4 times, first to a classmate, and then 3 more times to volunteers. The first administration for each student was not considered for the study, which produced 108 testing administrations. These administrations and scoreswere then examined by advanced level graduate students taught by the same professor. The instrument used for scoring the administrations was a checklist first created by Schermerhorn and Alfonso, and was designed to record the frequency and types of errors made during the administration and scoring of the test (Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). After each of the 108 tests were scored using the checklist, it was found that there were 500 errors made. While the mean ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Telluric Screw Research Paper In the 18th, century many elements were starting to be discovered so scientists faced the problem of trying to arrange them. At this time the actual masses of the elements could not be measured so instead they compared them with the mass of hydrogen, or the relative atomic mass. Firstly in 1862 Alexandre Beguyer de Chancoutois arranged the elements into a three dimensional form of classification called the telluric screw. The telluric screw plotted the elements on the outside of a cylinder where one complete turn corresponded to an atomic weight increase of 16. This resulted in curtain elements appearing on the same vertical line as other element after one full turn of the cylinder. These elements were elements that had similar properties to other elements. This was very helpful in the development of the periodic table because it was the first known time that the elements... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The periodic table is important for scientists today because it is an easy way to order elements based on trends and because of this we can quickly identify the trends and properties of an element just by looking at its position on the table. The table is useful for students and scientists because it helps predict the types of chemical reactions that are likely for an element. Rather than memorise facts and figures for each element, a quick glance at the table reveals a lot about the reactivity of an element, whether it is likely to conduct electricity, whether it is hard or soft, and many other characteristics. Not only does the table enable us to find out properties of known elements, but it can predict the properties of elements not yet discovered. Mendeleev was the first person to leave gaps in the periodic table for elements not yet discovered, so we can predict in much detail the properties of the element that would fit in the gaps that have been left ... We depended on the designing criteria of the linker for efficiently separating domains in bifunctional proteins (40). They reported to use rapamycin dependent dimerization or Й‘ helix interactions for enhancing posttranslational association between the two fragments. Some trials used artificially designed antiparallel Leucine Zipper to assist protein fragment reconstitution (41). In our study, we used yeast GCN4 coil/coil Leucine Zipper domain which previously used by some split Cre systems (19). This Leucine Zipper does not interfere with normal cellular physiology (30). Each protein fragment behaves as an independent protein. It has different kinetics than the other protein fragment. We tested the recombinase activity on synthetic construct and on mammalian genome. We have optimized the system to choose the best spatial and temporal control of the Cre recombinase. Meanwhile, the reconstituted CRE recombination was not present in all cells. We had to sort cells expressed both nCre and cCre fragments. There are two possibilities for this finding. First, the reconstituted CRE is too low to induce complementation. Second, there is difference in the expression pattern between the two promoters in each cell due to epigenetic factors. Hope Essay Choe 1 Grace Choe Mr. Quarrella AP Literature 11 November 2010 Theme of Hope Hope in the face of adversity, hope in spite of the depression and mere survival they must endure, hope in the face of death and fear. One of the major themes that Cormac McCarthy emphasizes in The Road is hope: hope for a better world, hope that there are still good people out there. McCarthy uses the son as a symbol of hope throughout the novel to engage and grasp the attention of his readers. Hope is what progresses the novel, therefore without hope there is nothing. The father always reassures the boy and himself that they are the good guys which gives them the hope to keep persevere because they are, to the father, keeping goodness in the world alive, carrying the flame. Cormac McCarthy presents the cannibals as a lost hope in The Road. They are almost only referred to as the bad guys and are described as if they are animals with no hope other than to survive. In fact, both forms of segregation enforced poverty for coloured people and ensured [that Caucasians had better quality] schools, hospitals, and other public services (Rose 2011, 12). Leading him to the social gospel which started him down the path of nonviolence, and longing not just for personal reform but for social reform. As the Civil Rights movements became bigger, and as the philosophy of which John Lewis taught spread, others were inspired by the social gospel. At a very young age John Lewis love for the gospel was born. At the age of four his uncle gifted him his first Bible for Christmas. Even though he was too young to read it for himself; the words that his mother read to him, had a strong impact. He said, I ll never forget my mother reading aloud to me the first words in that book In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth (Lewis and Aydin March Book one 26). By age five he could read the Bible himself, and the messages began to shape, and impact him even more. John Lewis then wanted to be a preacher, so he began preaching to the chickens on his farm, with soulful messages. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. [...] Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy (Lewis and Aydin March Book one 27). Little did he know, that what he preached to the chickens were molding his future. Those words are what he was going to stand for, his morals. What he was going to be known for, what will become his determination, and will drive him for years to come. There was one verse in particular that did stand out to Lewis, John 1:29: Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world (KJV). In this verse the lamb of God is referring to Jesus, whom sacrifices himself to take away the sin of every person and save every person. There is a strong connection between John Lewis and Jesus Christ. Foreshadowing, that John Lewis believes his purpose is to liberate the lives of African Americans. In 2010, shortly after taking office, Florida s Governor, Rick Scott proposed a bill to mandate blanket drug testing for all state cash assistance programs. In 2011, Florida became the first state to pass and fully implement a bill mandating suspicion less drug screening for all applicants after Michigan s legal loss. Many people feel the remaining employees are being held to a higher standard than those on welfare. The American Civil Liberties Union has declared mandatory drug testing by the federal government on welfare recipients intrudes on the rights of poor citizens. Yet, most working class citizens have to take drug tests in order to maintain employment. Nearly every profession in the private sector requires drug testing. New hires at ... • 38. Conscientious Objectors During WWII In the past conscientious objectors have been imprisoned, executed, and stolen from for what they believe in. During WWII many conscientious objectors were sent to work at mental institutions as doctors, but ended up working as the equivalent to modern day custodians. The mental institutions that were sent to work at were often referred to as hellholes because they were overcrowded, there was a horrible stench, there was no furniture, and it consisted of many concrete rooms with half naked humans slumped up against the walls. An account by Charles Lord, a conscientious objector during WWII, says that you have three men taking care of 350 incontinent patients, with feces and urine all over the floor . • 39. Russia Is Wrought With Inconsistencies And Discord The history of Russia is wrought with inconsistencies and discord. Flawed with unjust social constructs and plagued constantly by the dichotomous relationship between authority and the people, Russia, since it s upbringing, had always been one step behind it s eastern neighbors. And in this rat race to stand among the Europeans, the identity and essence of Russiawas always in a state of question. As a result, Russia was constantly struggling to find it s place within a global narrative. It was Russian philosopher Petr Chaadaev, who in 1829, wrote, We do not belong to any of the great families of the human race. We are neither of the West nor of the East, and we have the traditions of neither. It is a wonder that Chaadaev, in the years of such turbulent changes, was able to identify such metaphysical traits of the nation. But while Chaadaev highlights the indisputable sui generis nature of Russia in context with the European nations, perhaps it was too presumptuous to say that this uniqueness resulted in the lack of culture and tradition from both East and West. As the three momentous periods of Russia, the formation, the imperial, and the formation of the soviet, may suggest, rather than a nation outside of East or West, Russia is an amalgamation of elements from both, existing between the dichotomous East and West. Russia before the Russians was a complex mix of people and culture. To the knowledge of historians, the lands were mostly comprised of disjointed clans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story is about a group of rabbits who run away from their warren, or their pack, after learning that their lives were in danger. After hearing the forewarning of the aforementioned rabbit, Fiver, the group runs away from their warren, with Fiver s brother, Hazel, as their chief on a perilous journey. As they went on this journey a major theme through the book was deception. Due to that, he is frequently in a nervous state, but he still manages to guide the group in the proper direction, regardless of how he is feeling. Fiver also has the ability to sense danger when others can not. At one point, the pack felt as though they were safe with a new warren in an exposed place, but Fiver ended up saving them from certain death. Fiver constantly sticks to his instincts and does not change his mind, due to other people s opinions. He is definitely an important asset for the warren. Overall, I did not like Watership Down, due to the fact that I constantly feel weighed down reading it.There are many intriguing and fascinating lessons and thoughts that can be extracted from Richard Adams Watership Down when inspected under a magnifying glass. From those many issues, the one that is the most influential to ourselves is the issue regarding anti segregation, portrayed ingeniously by Richard Adams through Hazel within many different cases in the novel. Out of those many instances, this essay will discuss two of them, explain how they display the issue of anti segregation, and compare them to a famous historical and political figure. The character in the ... • 41. The Role Of Women s Video Games When discussing the role of women in video games, it is important to establish what an acceptable female character is. An acceptable female character has her own motivations that are not dependent on a male character, is not overtly sexualized, and has a multi dimensional personality. A well written femalecharacter has a storyline that is independent of other malecharacters and does not serve to further male storylines. The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog, follows Joel as he leads Ellie, a young girl, across a post apocalyptic world. Ellie, rather than existing as a tool to further Joel s man pain, acts on her own inhibitions. Ellie also becomes a playable character at certain points and Alexandra Neonakis, part of the team that created the game, states that these are some of the most important plot points (JAMSTEW, 2015). The story itself focuses on the fact that she may contain the cure to the infection that has riddled the United States, turning people into a zombie like state. While some may see the relationship of Joel and Ellie as merely Joel using Ellie for his own purposes, it is more of a mutual relationship. With the influence of Joel and other factors, Ellie goes on a journey from a damsel in distress to a fully capable and complex character , states Neonakis (JAMSTEW, 2015). The game attempted to showcase a relationship between man and women where each needed each other for support and to improve themselves. A women s sexuality can be an integral part ... I really couldn t write yesterday because my annoying, older brother found out about my diary. He stole it and hid it. I wonder if he read it. I highly doubt it because I have a sturdy lock on it, and my diary wasn t completely shredded up. It was completely unharmed which I found really weird. He also denied ever taking it which didn t help things at all for him because I found my diary sitting on his bed. I wasn t even snooping through his room. I couldn t find my diary and was panicking, and when I was walking past Daichi s room, I saw it sitting right out in the open on his bed. Thank goodness it was still shut. March 4 th 1942 I really hate the way that Japanese people are treated in Vancouver right now. I saw some signs today and they completely ruined my day. I am honestly so terrified of being killed, or taken to internment camps. I just want to stay where I am and never go out again. If anyone of Japanese descent went into any of the restricted areas, they would be put into prison. Because they are Japanese, the sentence would probably be extremely unfair. Actually since Mother lost her job a few months ago (only because she is Japanese) she was considering homeschooling me and my siblings. This would be nice, as we wouldn t have to go out of our home. • 46. Rocking Infant Poor And Unlucky Travelers By Jonathon Swift Writing of devouring infant poor and unlucky travelers, Jonathon Swift satirically writes of the tyranny of England. The 18th century began with a great struggle between Ireland and England. The world power of England encroached on the rights of the Irish including monitoring their right to their own parliament and regulating their trade clearly benefitting the English. Englandhad left Irelandstarving and impoverished. Jonathon Swift, an author at the time, wrote several essays intending to spite the English and call the Irish to action to fight this oppression. The Irish did not respond. Terry Eagleton and Daniel Coleman s theories prove that in his attempt to move Ireland to action Swift in actuality pacified their need to rebel again the encroaching English. His literature provided the humanization to prevent violence, the information to prevent further action, and the vicarious experiences that fulfilled the peasants for retribution. It will be my pleasure to discuss, as Derrida would argue, that because Swift s essays can be centered on both sparking and abating an uprising the structure of the essays have been destroyed and therewith their meaning. Eagleton said, If masses are not thrown a few novels, they may react by throwing up a few barricades. (Eagleton 45) Eagleton is speaking here about the start of studying English as a subject, but would not Swift s essays have the same effect? Design influences me in these places because it helps me to be aware of what I m buying and what is physically appealing to me as a consumer. One time I was at the grocery store with my mother, and I bought 20oz Fuji water bottles for the both of us. While I was in line, waiting to pay for the water bottles, I started to think of why the company of Fuji water shaped their bottles rectangular. Was it easier to hold? Was it just a slimmer and satisfying design? Was it different tasting water? What made me buy this bottle compared to other water bottles such as Aquamarine or the Great Value brand? These were the questions that running through my head. All these questions are what company s designers think of when trying to get consumers to buy their products....
