Distortion in Brave New World Essay
Distortion in Brave New World
Distortion is an image of a thought or idea that appears to have a single affect on a society, but in
actuality provides one that is totally different. Often times in order for readers to understand the
realism of today s society and the point that the author tries to make in presenting its flaws, the
writer must distort reality. In doing this he urges the reader to engage in a deep thought processthat
forces them to realize the reality of a situation, rather than perceiving it to be good or evil based
on the dilutions of individuals. In his novel Brave New World, Aldous Huxley uses tomorrow s
dystopia and distorts it by creating a utopian visage. By distorting religion and science, Huxley

The Charing Cross Tower, which is now the Charing T Tower, symbolizes the religious iconsthat
the society has (61); the T itself is a distorted cross, and thus further shows that though the society
thinks it can live without religion, it can not. Though the society has no God, the year of the Ford
s first model T and the birth of Christ both act as the opening date of ... [a] new era (52). In their
society, not only is the T a powerful symbol, such as a cross is in today s, but the influence of it
also. Religion helps individuals believe that life is or will be better, and soma, which is
considered the advantages of Christianity is euphoric, narcotic, [and] pleasantly hallucinant
allowing the individual to feel that life is better than it actually is (53 54). In addition to
distorting religious symbols, the author also does the same for religious leaders. Though the
utopia believes that it can live without a religious leader, they follow their leader Mustapha Mond
as if he were the Pope. With distortion, Huxley allows the reader to visualize the religious society
that the brave new world has created, and the religious society that they try to avoid.
Not only is religion distorted, but science as well. The utopia utilizes science in such a way that it
believes it can free and liberate their thought and souls, when in actuality

The Importance Of Female Characters In Disney Films
Children s animation has always been a specific genre that attracts a lot of attention due to the
affect its characters can have on young kids. Arguably the most popular children s animated films
franchise is the Disney Princess line, where about twelve female characters from these Disney
films serve as the main protagonist throughout their respective movies. Young girls around the
world obsess over the Disney Princesses as they remain highly popular due to frequent films and
merchandising. The Princesses who star in these films are seen as role models to these young
women, especially in American culture as they typically have redeemable qualities and make the
best out of troublesome situations. Although Disney films are especially popular in the United
States as well as worldwide, they are not as well favored in Japan. Japanese animated children s
films are beloved in their home country, specifically ones that feature a strong, pre teen female
protagonist. The Studio Ghiblifilm studio has many female roles in their animated films, and
audiences view these characters as more age appropriate to their target audience: female children
and pre teen girls. American audiences that are exposed to these Japanese films seem to agree that
the female characters are more realistic, more personable, and have better views and goals than
those of the Disney Princess franchise. Two films both released in 1989, Disney s The Little
Mermaidand Studio Ghibli s Kiki s Delivery Service both

Looking After Skellig Characters
David Almond has included many recurring themes throughout the book Skellig. In the novel,
there is a strong, obvious friendship between Michael, Mina and Skellig. There is a lot of
change that the characters must deal with and their friends and family are there to help support
them. The theme death reoccurs throughout the novel which gives the book a deeper meaning.
There is a strong and obvious friendship between Michael, Mina and Skellig. On page 38, Mina
took Michael to a place no one knows about. This showed that Mina trusted Michael to keep her
secret. Michael did the same for her. On page 76, Michael showed Mina the extraordinary being
in his garage. The two characters developed a strong friendship early in the book and continued
to develop it when they looked after Skellig. In return for Michael looking after Skellig, on page
150, Michaels mum describes the man coming into the hospital ward, before the baby went into
surgery, and danced with her to give her some strength. Throughout the book, these 3 characters

In the medieval times the Hindus evolved into having philosophers, plays and music with their
religion. A man named Chaitanya came into power and claimed to have a god reincarnated inside
of him. In the
19th century, movements to reconcile traditional Hinduism with the social reforms and political
ideas of the day took place. Many people where sent out to Europe and Asia preaching and
spreading the religion. Throughout all these periods of time, the religion mutated and changed to fit
with the times and as it did it just kept gathering more and more followers.
Hinduism Today Today there are numerous self proclaimed teachers who have migrated to Europe
and the United States, where they have inspired large followings. In India Hinduism thrives despite
all the reforms and shortcuts made in the practicing due to the gradual modernization and

Caste System The ideal way of life is referred to as the duties of one s class and station . In the
phrase the word class is changed to CASTE. The ancient texts tell of four great classes, or castes:
the Brahmins, or priests; the
Ksatriyas, or warriors and rulers; the Vaisayas, or merchants and farmers; and the Sudras, or
peasants and laborers. A fifth class, Panchamas, or untouchables, are people whose jobs make them
touch unclean or unholy objects.

Television During The Vietnam War
In recent history, humans are able to access new resources that people didn t have in the past such
as the television, national archives and the internet. The television was introduced to Australia on
the 16th September 1956 (first broadcast Good evening, and welcome to television. ). Televisions
provide us with a visual account of events rather than primarily text. The Vietnam war was the first
major conflict to be broadcasted on television. Images of casualties and deaths were shown on the
televisions for people to see and historians believe that this has changed people s view on the
Vietnam war ( often known as The living room war or Television war )
The National Archives is also a resource that people can access especially historians to gather
primary resources and revisit past issues. At the end of every year the National Archive releases

Essay on The Corruption of the American Dream in The Great...
On April 10, 1925 F. Scott Fitzgerald published The Great Gatsby, a novel that would later
become one of the best known pieces of classic literature in history. However, at the time of its
publication, Gatsby was fairly unpopular ad the reviews were never consistent. As shocking as it
may seem, I believe it is because Fitzgerald s intelligence and creativity levels were way ahead of
his time, which is evident when one pays close attention to the themes of the novel. Forgiveness,
love, and memory of the past are just a few themes you will come across in this story. Aside from
these, there is one other theme that is much more dominant and could possibly have been the cause
of The Great Gatsbys slight lack of initial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you were, or are, one of those who feel this way you believe that if one does not own the fanciest
clothes, the fastest cars, or the most extravagant house then they simply are not living the American
dream. This materialistic aspect completely disregards happiness, family, and moral values. It is
also the aspect that Fitzgerald seems to focus on the most with The Great Gatsby. In the novel, the
main character, Jay Gatsby is most definitely living the American dream in the sense of
materialism. He was never seen wearing less than the best of suits, and even seeing his shirts
drove his love interest, Daisy to tears. They re such beautiful shirts...I ve never seen such
beautiful shirts (Fitzgerald, p. 98). His mansion was described as looking like the World s fair
when he was throwing one of his thrilling parties. Although the only information Fitzgerald gives
us about Gatsby s car is that it was a Rolls Royce (pg. 35), that is enough to tell us he was not
lacking in the fastest cars area. As for the fundamentally based ideas of the American dream, Jay
Gatsby has only a few of them covered. He is certainly wealthy and prosperous. And if the fact
that he can host a party, have the entire town attend, and repeat every weekend without ever
showing his face does not scream high social status , I don t know what does! The part of this
fundamental aspect that Mr. Gatsby is lacking is a family and happiness.

The Importance Of Learning Experience
The nursing profession encourages lifelong update learning (NMC, 2010), and student nurses, as
adult learners and aspiring professionals, need to start developing themselves within the culture of
lifelong learning in the workplace and take responsibility for their learning (Hinchliff, 2004). This is
possible with effective communication in sharing appropriate experience, skills, and knowledge to
facilitate best practice and enhance learningopportunities (NMC, 2008).
The purpose of this essay is to analyse a specific episode of learning event that I have been
involved in practice setting which my mentor was the teacher. I will explore teaching style and
learning theories related to this experience. In addition, an action plan will be formulated and
presented in appendices to explore on how the learning event will impact on the registrant and
highlight key development areas to overcome. The learning experience that I will be looking at in
this essay is the safe administration of intramuscular depot injections taught by my mentor. Nursing
and Midwifery council (2009) considered administering intramuscular injection as an essential
component of nursing training for pre registration student nurses. Therefore, confidently learning
how to administer this form of injection is important for promoting safety and the quality of care
delivered to the public (NMC,2015). It is the role of the mentor to facilitate student learning in
achieving this essential skill required for registration (Ness et al, 2010).
Learning is defined by Howard (2009) as any event that brings about a relatively permanent change
in behaviour, resulting from either experience or practice. Knowles (2005, 2011) also sees learning
as a structured, premeditated means of trying ideas which are relevant to problems or challenges.
It is important that teacher established student preferred learning style prior to teaching event in
order to promote effective learning (Pritchad, 2013). West et al (2007) state that learning style
preferences influence how a learner understands and interprets teaching experience. Mentor need to
know that students have diverse types of learning styles as not all students learn in the same way,
therefore, understanding

Childhood Emotional Abuse Essay
Although all therapists are aware of the childhood emotional abuse issue, it is possible that only
few therapists understand the scope of the issue. Emotional maltreatment is harder to detect than
other forms of abuse because it is more subtle. When Child Protective Services (CPS) conduct
family assessments, it is the hardest form of abuse to prove because parents are very open about
the topic and emotional abuse does not leave any physical evidence behind. However, it certainly
influences a child s self esteem, promotes the feeling of guilt, insecurity, and creates the inability to
form stable relationships during adulthood. Although some behavioral disorders are related to
emotional abuse, it is not possible to predict it correctly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, all forms of child abuse carry emotional consequences because the child s psychological
and emotional development inevitably suffers from all forms of abuse. An intervention model that
would focus on emotional abuse could also focus on preventing other forms of abuse because
violent behavior towards children often comes from the same underlying causes, and most risk
factors for child maltreatment are associated with caregiver, family, and environmental factors
(McDonald, 2007). With this in mind, a possible solution would have to include early detection, but
the intervention would most likely focus on factors that cause all types of child abuse. Despite the
widespread occurrences of all forms of abuse, emotional neglect or maltreatment are practically
impossible to detect while they occur and impair the child s normal development and social
integration. Emotional abuse includes includes verbal, mental, and psychological maltreatment of
children, and it is frequently overlooked by the community and mental health professionals who do
not define emotional abuse as a suitable factor for diagnostic purposes (as cited in Schneider,
Baumrind, Kimerling, 2007). In reality, emotional abuse is frequently used in many families, it
occurs in several worldwide cultures, and it carries significant consequences that should not be
overlooked. Emotional abuse

Employment Discrimination Against Individuals Based On...
Introduction This new generation brings new challenges that in the past were taboo. In the sixties
and seventies, a hippie was widely accepted, but now being transgender is not favorable. The hiring
process has many different attributes that employers have to deal with. Some aspects include
physical appearance, lifestyle, and language. For several decades, the law has forbidden
discriminationagainst individuals based on age, race, national origin, or sex, and these factors
should not be in job specifications or recruitment advertisements (Shaw, 2014, 284). Employment
discrimination against physical appearance, lifestyle, and language is not only wrong but also
unethical.
I.Physical Appearance Psychologists have long known that people form impressions of others
purely based on their appearance (Duarte, Siegel, Young, 2012, p.2455). Today s society puts
great importance on people s physical appearance (Yang, Stoeber, 2012, p.69). Not everyone can
be have a size 2 Victoria Secret model body or look like Duane Johnson (The Rock). Veterans
have a harder time getting jobs now because of their physical characteristics after the Iraqi war.
Perfect looks are highly valued because they symbolize success, happiness, and being loved and
admired by others; consequently, many people strive to look perfect, and many others are
concerned about their physical appearance worrying that they may not look perfect (Yang, Stoeber,
2012, p.69). The Civil Rights

The Color White Analysis
The color white has many meanings ranging from innocence to light. For weddings, a white
dress means purity while a white piece of paper means a clean slate. All of the meanings seems
far fetch to the people who consider themselves indecent even if they want to change. In this play
Willie fits into this group of people. The blank paper appears several times in the dialogue which
shows that it has some significance to Willie. She evens compares the sky to to colorof a clean piece

but there is a hidden meaning behind the her doll. Williams describes Willie as childlike and
laughing randomly while resembling a doll with her makeup (1083). Willie tells Tom that she is
worried about washing the dolls hair because of the doll s compound fracture (1088). She says, I
think that most of her brains spilled out. She s been acting silly ever since. Saying an doing the
most outrageous things (1088). The doll s compound fracture and brains spilling out represents
Willie after losing her parents and sister while now being homeless. Spilling brains can make a
person go crazy and so can losing all of their family members like Willie. She evens refers herself
as being peculiar to Tom in the beginning of their conversation (1082). Since her parents are
gone, Willie looks up to Alva instead. She learns to sleep with men from her sister which is an

Suspense In Stephen King
Most readers identify Stephen King s works as horror, however he sees them as suspense novels
(citation needed). Stephen King is often associated with the horror genre because of his
excessive use of gore in his novels. However, gore is merely a side agenda that helps King shape
his ideas. Instead, King s main goal is to create suspense. By creating a vivid image of the impact
of a murder, rape, or other catastrophe he is able to foster his goal by unnerving his reader and
creating a conflict. Stephen Kings extensive and creative use of detail and literary elements in his
novels assists the motive for the conflict between good and evil, constructs a complete depiction of
the supernatural and reality, and builds an ongoing sense of tension.... Show more content on

blood was pouring onto the carpet, and still the son of a buck [Coggins, priest] wouldn t go

this example shows the great detail he goes into when describing a murder. Second, this quote
shows how he used the detail to magnify the evil in Big Jim. Most importantly, it sets up the
story for Big Jim to frame Barbie, the good guy, for the murder of Coggins and three others.
Lucky for Jim, people trust him because he has been in Chester s Mill longer than Barbie. Sadly,
this means Barbie s friends have to come together to destroy the corruption set up by Big Jim. Thus,
this detail sets up the battle between good and evil. Consistently, King uses this method to shape the

The Problem Of Gender Inequality
Gender inequality is a serious problem in our community. Since childhood I saw my mom work
long hours in order to bring food to our table. Unfortunately for me, I never got to see my dad
since he left my mom before I was born. I grew up in Monticello, New York, a place known for
its poverty and violence. Monticello featured woman working in grocery stores and men seen
selling and abusing drugs on the streets. Whenever an expensive car would drive by, men would
stare and express verbal signs of hatred towards the owner. Since this was the lifestyle I grew up
around, I had to make a choice whether to stay here, sell drugs or go to college and pursue a
healthier life. An important factor that contributed to my decision, was a recent encounter I had
with genderexpectations. I understood why our perception, state of mind, was a key factor that
determined gender inequality, how it determined who gets hired, who contributes most to his or her
work and why this was such a problem.
At age 15, I decided to apply for a job in my local Mc Donald s. I had waited almost a month for
this job and although no past experience was required, I still had a great deal of fast food
understanding on my resume. After my interview was over, I was confident that I would be hired,
even the manager assured me since I was the most intelligent applicant out of all applicants, I
would be given more priority. To my surprise another person had applied for the same position, was

The 1997 Asian financial crisis reinforced Australias growing economic interdependence within
Asia, evident through the assistance given to Indonesia, Thailand, and South Korea to help re
establish their economies. Regional dynamics largely shifted as a result, contributing to the demise
of the Indonesia Suharto administration, and its subsequent transition to democracy. As Indonesia
develops itself as a democratic country, there have been more opportunities for the traditionally
different nations of Indonesia and Australia to intertwine, seeing an increase in regional policy and
greater collaboration on issues of mutual importance.
As Indonesian society continues to transform, so has the national interest in global politics. This
has seen an increase in regional and global affairs, triggering a growth in environmental activism,
and a greater awareness for implementation of crime prevention and migration strategies. Indonesia
has strongly supported the inclusion of Australia in the East Asia Summit (EAS), a conference

Conversely, Indonesian society has benefitted from its increasing ties with Australia, allowing it to

These questions can really trigger the thinking of some people out there that had been eating but are
not aware if what they are eating is actually healthy and smart enough to meet their daily needs.
Healthy eating is never really about any strict and word for word nutritional theories and
philosophies. It is not also having an unrealistic slim body, nor depriving and not allowing yourself
to take the food that you love. Healthy eating is actually feeling great about it, using the right
amount of energy, and making and seeing yourself healthy in all possible means. In addition, all of

Opting for fresh fruits and vegetables can be one of the key points that are lacking and not
included in the diet of most people. This is primarily because of the price. However, an option
that we can take here is to try to find some local shops that sell out cheap but quality produce.
Farmers market is also another option that can give you low prices as compared with the
supermarkets and groceries. Making this big leap is not only a major benefit to your health but also
it can extend the shelf life of the products; this will in turn lower down the potential of wasting.
There are still other ways that you can do in order to eat healthy and smart. A lot of online
suggestions are also given. And take note that trying to make a healthy diet that you want to
achieve overnight is impossible. When you try to change everything that you were used to, and
doing it all at once is like cheating on yourself, too. Gradually but surely is more likely.
Remember that healthy or smart eating do not have to be totally expensive and luxurious. All you

INFORMATION SYSTEMS MAY 2012 ABSTRACT Kenya Airways was at a crossroads in
2006. A hunger for new markets prompted air carriers from the Middle East and Asia to expand
aggressively into Africa. So Kenya Airways executives responded putting in place an expansion
plan of their own, designed to make the company the leader in intra Africa air traffic by 2009. But

Virgin Atlantic cited that its decision to stop flying the route was due to a difficult operating
environment as a result of increasing costs and a weakening European economy. The airline will
stop flying the route in September, five years after it made its maiden flight. This decision alone
saw the Kenya Airways share value rise from KES 14.70 to 16.35 on the day of the
announcement indicating increased investor confidence. 2.0 Information Technology effectively
employed at Kenya airways In September 2007, Kenya Airways implemented the first phase of
the Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning solution. Prior to this the company was using separate
systems for its different divisions, such as finance, HR and payroll, supply chain and others. The
business was willing to surrender existing business processes in lieu of packaged processes from a
competent Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution that would offer something better. The
business environment had become very competitive and in order to maintain its position as a
market leader, operations needed to be much more efficient, reduce costs, and liberate internal
resources to achieve higher levels of business activity. In brief the Oracle modules that were
candidates for implementation included: a) Core Financials b) Treasury, c) i Expenses amp;

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Traffic Control
DENSITY BASED TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM A new density based traffic control system is
described here, which is capable of detecting, counting, and controlling vehicles, thereby reducing
the traffic congestion. Before explaining about the proposed system, some of the existing traffic
control methods and their disadvantages are described below.
4.1 EXISTING TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS
In real world there are many traffic controlling schemes established already. These schemes are
described below.
4.1.1Manual Controlling
This is the simplest form of traffic control. As the name indicates it require man power to control
the traffic. Depending on the countries and states the traffic polices are allotted for a required area
or city to control the traffic by analyzing the traffic conditions. A traffic police stands in the middle
of road and monitors flow of traffic. The traffic polices will have things like sign board, sign light
and whistle to control the traffic. In time of congestion he gives signals to the vehicle driver
whether to drive or stop. He is also able to recognize emergency case, so he can choose which lane
needs more priority than other.
4.1.2Automatic Timer Control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This system includes simple three color traffic signal. A fixed time is allotted for each lane. The
lights are automatically getting ON and OFF depending on the timer value changes. While using
electrical sensors it will capture the availability of the vehicle and signals on each phase,
depending on the signal the lights automatically switch ON and OFF. Before green light, yellow
light flashes for few second, signifying to start your vehicle and be ready to go. For all the time
red light is on, ordering each vehicle to stop. This method is efficient than manual controlling

Media Report on the Analysis of Five Different Media Sources: The 2015 Nepal Earthquake from
April 2015 to May 2015
Introduction
Since the drastic 1934 Nepal Bihar earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0, Nepal continued to
experience numerous series of earthquakes throughout the years that were of less magnitude and
low causalities. However, on 25 April 2015, Nepal once again encountered one of the most severe
earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 followed by several aftershocks which resulted in more than
8,000 people being killed, injuring over 21,000 people and destroying more than 500,000 buildings
(UNOCHA, 2015). Nonetheless, there were different international media coverages and responses
to this issue of Nepal earthquake. Firs, this report will contain the overview of international
responses interpreted by five different media sources such as CNN, The Kathmandu Post, Reuters,
Zee News India and Hindustan Times. In addition, the sources will then be examined in detail
focusing on the efforts of disaster relief assistance provided by the Nepali government and several
other agencies. Subsequently, this media report will be concluded by generally analysing the role
of media in framing the global events.

Texas v. Johnson Essay
Texas v. Johnson (No. 88 155). Argued: March 21, 1989. Decided: June 21, 1989 In 1984 the
Republican National Convention was held in Dallas, Texas. While there, a group of protesters,
opposed to President Reagan s reelection, burned an American flag. Specifically, Greg Johnson
was seen dousing the flag with kerosene and lighting it on fire. Johnson was arrested under a
Texas flag desecration law. He was convicted and sentenced to one year in jail and fined $2000.
The State Court of Appeals affirmed but the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reversed the decision.

The act for which appellant was convicted was clearly speech contemplated by the First
Amendment. The court also stated that, Recognizing that the right to differ is the centerpiece of
our First Amendment freedoms, the court explained, a government cannot mandate by fiat a
feeling of unity in its citizens. Therefore, that very same government cannot carve out a symbol
of unity and prescribe a set of approved messages to be associated with that symbol when it
cannot mandate the status or feeling the symbol purports to represent. The Supreme Court found
that the state s first interest of preserving the flag as a symbol of national unity was not made.
The state had not shown that the flag was in danger of being stripped of its symbolic value, the
Texas court also decided that flag s special status was not endangered by Johnson s actions. The
court also concluded that that the flag desecration statute was not drawn narrowly enough to
encompass only those flag burnings that were likely to result in a serious disturbance of the peace.
The flag burning in this particular case did not threaten such a reaction. There were only a few
witnesses to the act that stated that they were upset with the action but were not harmed in any
way. There was no breach of peace nor does the record reflect that the situation was potentially
explosive. Just because someone was

Scotch-Irish Research Paper
The purpose of my paper is to show how the Scotch Irish culture came to be in the United States.
There were several things that led the Scotch Irish to make the perilous journey across the Atlantic

Training software will need to be purchased to account for the training exercises and these will total
an estimated 400 dollars.
Actual training will take place over two days so that we can house a large number of employees
while working very quickly at training them efficiently. Duration estimated were decided by
looking at average training times used by similar businesses and the type of training we are
trying to achieve. The overall project budget will be split into 4 quarters to highlight the expenses
needed at each time frame. This will help to breakdown the overall budget into smaller more
manageable expenses to get more detail into what is being spent and what it is being spent on.
These quarterly expenditures will do a lot to keep costs as efficient as possible and provide a closer
look at how these resources are being divided. There will be a total of 15 managers participating
in this training exercise and each one will have things such as hardware resources, food, flight
expenditures as well as trainers and consultants to help them along the way. This will leave
nothing left to chance and provide all available resources to complete the training in a fast and
efficient way. While many of these figures are close estimates there will be unused expenses
toward the end to allow for fourth quarter expenses to be provided for if need be. The three month

The Effects Of Norm Violation On The Perception Of Power
Investigation of the Effects of Norm Violation
On the Perception of Power Power governs our society. A powerful person is one that has
authority over others. This sense of authority relieves them of the restrictions a person of lesser
power might face, allowing them to make and break rules. The four studies conducted in Breaking
the Rules to Rise to Power: How Norm Violators Gain Power in the Eyes of Others by Gerben A.
Van Kleef, Astrid C. Homan, Catrin Finkenauer, Seval Gu М€ndemir and Eftychia Stamkou,

The study examined the response of 25 females and 15 men with a mean age of 19.53 on two
scales. The first scale was a 25 question questionnaire consisting of adjectives that described
social impressions of power and norm violation, which was then rated on a scale from 1 to 7
with 1 being definitely not and 7 being definitely. The second scale asked participants to indicate
the extent to which the power statements This person is influential ; . . . has a leadership position
; . . . is in charge of subordinates ; . . . enjoys considerable authority (Van Kleef et al., 2011),
applied to the person depicted in the scenario.
Results and Discussions Participants rated the actor that took the cup of coffee from the personnel
with a higher norm violation score than the actor that went to the bathroom. This indicated that they
recognized that the behavior of the actor that took the coffee cup was wrong. Despite that, the
participants rated that actor to be more powerful than the actor that went to the bathroom on both
scales. This gives the first evidence that violating the norm influences the perception of power (Van
Kleef et al., 2011).

Compare Beowulf And The Faerie Queene
After reading the assigned stories I have chosen to write about the Faerie Queene and Beowulf.
Both Redcrosse and Beowulf show the perfect hero in two periods, Both Beowulf and Redcrosse
Knight exemplify the perfect hero in two separate periods, The Early Modern Period and The
Middle Age. Beowulf shows the effect of the spread of Christianity, values heroic deeds and
bravery above all else. Beowulf s heroism is explored in three separate conflicts, those with
Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the sea monster. Redcrosse Knight, The Faerie Queen, show
Holiness, though he is the individual Christian fighting against evil.
The Faerie Queene, was written during the early modern period, shows a massive change in
Christian religious practices. Redcrosse offers his services to Gloriana, Queen of Fairyland Una
reveals that the dragon of hell has captured her parents and that she needs assistance in getting them
free. Redcrosse takes on the challenge of getting her parents released (Canto 1). This demonstrate a
hero, he will go through great trials and fight fierce monsters and this in itself is the character of a
heroic knight. Not only does his armor protect his body and those with him, but also being a
Christian he has the protection of Christ. For the Christian to be holy, he must have faith.
Much of Beowulf is showing heroism , this shows the values of strength, courage, and loyalty,
hospitality, generosity,. Redcrosse, must defeat villains who impersonate the falsehood of the

The Impact Of The Industrial Revolution On Imperialism
As Europeans colonized much of the world, their empires became more and more fueled by the
Industrial Revolution. The developments of the Industrial Revolution that most impacted
Imperialism were the Maxim Gun, Modern Manufacturing, and Child Labour. The industrial

manufacturing process dramatically. Instead of items being produced by hand, the owners of the

The Intruder AnalysisEssay
In Andre Dubus s short story The Intruder , Dubus tells a story of a young boy losing his
innocence to protect his sister s, while struggling to find his place between boyhood and manhood.
The young boy, who is named Kenneth, can be associated with many biblical allusions concerning
the scenarios he is put in. In The Intruder , Kenneth s relationship with Connie is being intruded on
and he must protect it with his gun, the only symbol of manliness and power he has. In some
ways, Kenneth can be portrayed as a Christ figure because of his sacrificefor his sister like Jesus did

Douglas does not find Kenneth threatening in any way even when Kenneth shows him his gun:
Whatcha got there? . Twenty two. Let s see. Better dry it. He briskly wiped it with a dry cloth
and handed it to Douglas. Quickly Douglas worked the bolt, aimed at the ceiling, and pulled the
trigger. Nice trigger, he said. He held in front of his waist and looked at it then gave it to Kenneth.
(Dubus 223 224)
Douglas is accepted by the family and Kenneth is the only one left between Douglas and Connie,
like David was the only one brave enough to fight Goliath. Kenneth can also be portrayed as
Moses leading people to safety because he does with Connie when he kills the intruder. Kenneth s
experience can also be compared to the story of Adam and Eve. Another way of saying loss of
innocence, of couse is the Fall. Adam and Eve, the garden, the serpent, the forbidden fruit. Every
story about the loss of innocence is really about someone s private reenactment of the fall from
grace . (Foster 49) Kenneth and Connie both loss some form of innocence in this story and their
introduction to real death and violence is the forbidden fruit Kenneth loses the most innocence
because he commits a sin of murder. While defending against the intruder, Kenneth acts on what he

Intellectual Property on the Internet Essay
Intellectual Property on the Internet
On one of my first web sites I had an original graphic design, done by one of my friends. The
design was interesting and eye catching, two necessary elements for my site. I kept the design on
the site for over six months, before taking it down and rebuilding. Almost a year after the graphic
went up on my site, the person who designed it saw it on another site. After he showed me, he
expressed his disappointment. He had put his time and hard work into this and someone else had
just copied the image off my site and used it for themselves. The design was my friend s work and
his intellectual property.

Although the concept has been around for a long time, protection of intellectual property has never
been as much of an issue as it is today. Eric Chabrow explains:
That s because pre Internet, intellectual property was fairly easy to protect. Books, illustrations, and
reports could all be held in your hands. Even computer software, though trickier to protect, usually
resides on disks that can be protected. But the Internet makes it a cinch for any PC owner to copy

technology threatens to make copyright and other intellectual property protections obsolete.
(Chabrow, Copyrights: What s Left?)
The copying of text, sound, and graphics has become easy to do, but it is extremely hard to detect.
With the increased use of the Internet and software tools that ease the copying of information, text,

The War Of The Great Depression
The post 1945 period was an interesting time to live in America. It is during this period that the
American dream became a reality for most Americans. Years of intensive wartime sacrifice were
over and gone was the poverty borne out of the Great Depression. The American dream was
being redefined and here stood a chance to own a house in your own land, a car and a dog.
Families that had put on hold getting another child finally put away their worries and the country
experienced a post war baby boom. Despite all the positives, it was also during this period that
racial fears were ripe. This coupled with the desire to vacate the decaying cities is what prompted a
huge number of white Americans to move to the suburbia area.
Within a very short time, suburbs had become very popular and they created an illusion of a
perfect traditional family. They became the latest glamorous countryside and every rich individual
wanted to be part of this perfection. There was however difficulties that was experienced in the
suburbs as a swelling population was experienced. The three novels White house, Revolutionary
road and parts of Mrs. Browns The hours all show the plight of Suburban American both in comic
and tragic lights. In Revolutionary road, there is possibly no other novel that perfectly captures the
uneasiness of the middle class American Suburban Community in the post war period. The book

Dress Code Discrimination
Introduction The way in which females dress has played a large role in the sexualization of girls.
Recently, researchers have observed that the increase in production and marketing of sexy clothing
for females has resulted in the inducement of discrimination and sexualization towards girls
(Harbach, 2016). In the educational setting, these ideas have been laid out in policies such as dress
codes. The main purpose of school dress codes is to reduce disruption by removing the stimulus
that is causing the distraction (Arns, 2017). Moreover, as clothing has induced genderbased
discrimination towards females, their body has become the distraction. However, gender based

In earlier years, those of African American race were the main targets in schools. Gangs were
known to be made up of African American members. This steered schools to make their dress
codes stricter against African Americans in order to prevent and decrease gang violence in
schools (Wilson, 1998). During the 1960 s, immigrants from Mexico rapidly began to migrate to
America. This led to an augmentation in discrimination and exclusion of those of Hispanic race
(Mora, 2008). In recent years, sociologists have suggested that club owners have utilized dress
codes to discriminate against Hispanic and African Americans. The systematic evidence found
that African Americans and Hispanics were denied access to the clubs more often than those of
white race were (Goldsmith, 2017). In recent years, researchers have found that states such as
Oklahoma, Idaho and Florida have increasingly implemented stricter policies restricting natural
Black hairstyles such as dreads and afro puffs (Macon, 2015). On the other hand, in a poll
released last year through NPR by Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health, a majority of whites

from those who stated that their race is discriminated upon, a much smaller percentage says that
they have experienced it. Furthermore, racial discrimination seems to be present in every race,

past NEW YORK ship namesakes and the legacy they established it is important to know the
current ship that carries the namesake.
Present
On September 11th 2001, exactly 90 years after the keel of USS NEW YORK (BB 34) was laid,
2,763 people were killed in the World Trade Centers by terrorist attacks. Shortly after the attacks
a request was made from New York State Governor George E. Pataki to Secretary of the Navy
Gorden England requesting for a surface ship that would be involved in the War on Terrorism be
named NEW YORK even though surface ships were not normally named after states. The request
was approved 28 August 2002 to name the ship not only after the state but also the city. During her
construction seven and a half tons of the world trade center steel was forged to form the ship s bow.
There are two other pieces of World Trade Center steel displayed throughout the ship. She has a
subway stop with tile from the New York Transit Authority, and many other pieces of remembrance
from 9/11. Her heritage runs deep. Not with just remembrance from the attacks of 9/11 but from

Benefits of Weightlifting Essay
Many people look for an activity that will better them in every way possible; weightlifting is the
greatest activity in the world for such goals! Weightlifting yields so many benefits and it can
improve the quality of life for anyone who can do it. Weightlifting is one of the activities that, in
conjunction with other exercise and proper diet, will improve overall health, physical performance,
and mentality. First and foremost, the health benefits that come from weightlifting are numerous
and immense. Weightlifting increases musclestrength and it increases bone density as well. Increase
in bone density is one of the most beneficial side effects yielded by weightlifting (Sidrah). During
weightlifting and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hope lies on the horizon for fat and obese people as well! Contrary to popular belief, Weightlifting
can help people with losing weight and trimming down excess fat tissue. A study conducted by
researchers from the Boston University School of Medicine demonstrated that weightlifting, or any
weight or load bearing exercise, can help increase metabolism and, in turn, reduce body fat
percentage ( Weight Training). The researchers genetically modified the mice to grow their type 2
muscle fibers and bulk them up; with this addition of muscle, the mice showed various signs of
metabolic improvements throughout the body such as fat reduction ( Weight Training ). The
same science can be applied to human beings. Weightlifting works and develops fast twitch (type
2) muscle fibers; a good amount of muscle on the body will help with fat reduction by increasing
the speed of the metabolism. A study conducted by the Journal of Applied Physiology supports
this data as well; after a 16 week strength training, 13 men aged 50 65 years showed increases in
resting metabolic rate, decrease in body fat percentage with no change in weight, and an increase in
strength (Pratley). Since bigger and stronger muscles help burn fat then obviously it can help those
struggling with obesity and all of the

Writing Techniques In The Raven By Edgar Allen Poe
Edgar Allen Poe has written many short stories and poems, in which he displays skillful writing
techniques. Something he excels at is the expression of the themes in his works. He has a
unique writing style and often resorts to using symbols to develop deeper meanings. As a result,
Poe best executes the conveyance of his subject matter through the usage of his style of writing
and symbolism. Edgar Allen Poe s eerie writing style is a key factor in the way he conveys his
themes. His writing style is often dark and sorrowful, but can also make readers feel uneasy, which
coincides perfectly with the subject matter of his stories. For example, one of the themes in Poe s
poem The Raven, is individuals oftentimes feel a sense of emptiness... Show more content on

However, readers soon feel pity for the main character, as he shows how desperate he is for the
return of his lost love, Lenore. Is there is there balm in Gilead? tell me tell me, I implore! The
man begs to know if there is any way for Lenore to return to him. However, the raven responds
with nothing but the word Nevermore, leaving the man, and the reader, feeling hopeless and
unsettled. A key factor in the way Poe communicates his themes is through the use of symbolism.
Namely, his story The Masque of the Red Death is a prime example of this. The theme of this short
story is death inescapable, regardless of one s wealth. The story is set in a time where a plague
is striking many people and Prince Prospero, representing riches and prosperity, believes he and
his friends can escape this plague using his money. There are many rooms in this retreat, most
of which are painted a color representative of a positive aspect of life. However, there is one room
in which there flows a ruddier light through the blood colored panes; and the blackness of the
sable drapery appals; ...there comes from the near clock of ebony a muffled peal more solemnly
emphatic than any which reaches their ears who indulge in the more remote gaieties of the other
apartments. (1) In this room, the red window panes allude to blood, the black curtains equate to
death, and the ebony clock is symbolic

  • 2. Distortion in Brave New World Essay Distortion in Brave New World Distortion is an image of a thought or idea that appears to have a single affect on a society, but in actuality provides one that is totally different. Often times in order for readers to understand the realism of today s society and the point that the author tries to make in presenting its flaws, the writer must distort reality. In doing this he urges the reader to engage in a deep thought processthat forces them to realize the reality of a situation, rather than perceiving it to be good or evil based on the dilutions of individuals. In his novel Brave New World, Aldous Huxley uses tomorrow s dystopia and distorts it by creating a utopian visage. By distorting religion and science, Huxley allows ... The Charing Cross Tower, which is now the Charing T Tower, symbolizes the religious iconsthat the society has (61); the T itself is a distorted cross, and thus further shows that though the society thinks it can live without religion, it can not. Though the society has no God, the year of the Ford s first model T and the birth of Christ both act as the opening date of ... [a] new era (52). In their society, not only is the T a powerful symbol, such as a cross is in today s, but the influence of it also. Religion helps individuals believe that life is or will be better, and soma, which is considered the advantages of Christianity is euphoric, narcotic, [and] pleasantly hallucinant allowing the individual to feel that life is better than it actually is (53 54). In addition to distorting religious symbols, the author also does the same for religious leaders. Though the utopia believes that it can live without a religious leader, they follow their leader Mustapha Mond as if he were the Pope. With distortion, Huxley allows the reader to visualize the religious society that the brave new world has created, and the religious society that they try to avoid. Not only is religion distorted, but science as well. The utopia utilizes science in such a way that it believes it can free and liberate their thought and souls, when in actuality ... • 3. The Importance Of Female Characters In Disney Films Children s animation has always been a specific genre that attracts a lot of attention due to the affect its characters can have on young kids. Arguably the most popular children s animated films franchise is the Disney Princess line, where about twelve female characters from these Disney films serve as the main protagonist throughout their respective movies. Young girls around the world obsess over the Disney Princesses as they remain highly popular due to frequent films and merchandising. The Princesses who star in these films are seen as role models to these young women, especially in American culture as they typically have redeemable qualities and make the best out of troublesome situations. Although Disney films are especially popular in the United States as well as worldwide, they are not as well favored in Japan. Japanese animated children s films are beloved in their home country, specifically ones that feature a strong, pre teen female protagonist. The Studio Ghiblifilm studio has many female roles in their animated films, and audiences view these characters as more age appropriate to their target audience: female children and pre teen girls. American audiences that are exposed to these Japanese films seem to agree that the female characters are more realistic, more personable, and have better views and goals than those of the Disney Princess franchise. • 7. Essay on The Corruption of the American Dream in The Great... On April 10, 1925 F. Scott Fitzgerald published The Great Gatsby, a novel that would later become one of the best known pieces of classic literature in history. However, at the time of its publication, Gatsby was fairly unpopular ad the reviews were never consistent. As shocking as it may seem, I believe it is because Fitzgerald s intelligence and creativity levels were way ahead of his time, which is evident when one pays close attention to the themes of the novel. Forgiveness, love, and memory of the past are just a few themes you will come across in this story. Aside from these, there is one other theme that is much more dominant and could possibly have been the cause of The Great Gatsbys slight lack of initial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you were, or are, one of those who feel this way you believe that if one does not own the fanciest clothes, the fastest cars, or the most extravagant house then they simply are not living the American dream. This materialistic aspect completely disregards happiness, family, and moral values. It is also the aspect that Fitzgerald seems to focus on the most with The Great Gatsby. In the novel, the main character, Jay Gatsby is most definitely living the American dream in the sense of materialism. He was never seen wearing less than the best of suits, and even seeing his shirts drove his love interest, Daisy to tears. They re such beautiful shirts...I ve never seen such beautiful shirts (Fitzgerald, p. 98). His mansion was described as looking like the World s fair when he was throwing one of his thrilling parties. Although the only information Fitzgerald gives us about Gatsby s car is that it was a Rolls Royce (pg. 35), that is enough to tell us he was not lacking in the fastest cars area. As for the fundamentally based ideas of the American dream, Jay Gatsby has only a few of them covered. He is certainly wealthy and prosperous. And if the fact that he can host a party, have the entire town attend, and repeat every weekend without ever showing his face does not scream high social status , I don t know what does! The part of this fundamental aspect that Mr. Gatsby is lacking is a family and happiness. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Learning Experience The nursing profession encourages lifelong update learning (NMC, 2010), and student nurses, as adult learners and aspiring professionals, need to start developing themselves within the culture of lifelong learning in the workplace and take responsibility for their learning (Hinchliff, 2004). This is possible with effective communication in sharing appropriate experience, skills, and knowledge to facilitate best practice and enhance learningopportunities (NMC, 2008). The purpose of this essay is to analyse a specific episode of learning event that I have been involved in practice setting which my mentor was the teacher. I will explore teaching style and learning theories related to this experience. In addition, an action plan will be formulated and presented in appendices to explore on how the learning event will impact on the registrant and highlight key development areas to overcome. The learning experience that I will be looking at in this essay is the safe administration of intramuscular depot injections taught by my mentor. Nursing and Midwifery council (2009) considered administering intramuscular injection as an essential component of nursing training for pre registration student nurses. Therefore, confidently learning how to administer this form of injection is important for promoting safety and the quality of care delivered to the public (NMC,2015). It is the role of the mentor to facilitate student learning in achieving this essential skill required for registration (Ness et al, 2010). Learning is defined by Howard (2009) as any event that brings about a relatively permanent change in behaviour, resulting from either experience or practice. Knowles (2005, 2011) also sees learning as a structured, premeditated means of trying ideas which are relevant to problems or challenges. It is important that teacher established student preferred learning style prior to teaching event in order to promote effective learning (Pritchad, 2013). Emotional maltreatment is harder to detect than other forms of abuse because it is more subtle. When Child Protective Services (CPS) conduct family assessments, it is the hardest form of abuse to prove because parents are very open about the topic and emotional abuse does not leave any physical evidence behind. However, all forms of child abuse carry emotional consequences because the child s psychological and emotional development inevitably suffers from all forms of abuse. An intervention model that would focus on emotional abuse could also focus on preventing other forms of abuse because violent behavior towards children often comes from the same underlying causes, and most risk factors for child maltreatment are associated with caregiver, family, and environmental factors (McDonald, 2007). With this in mind, a possible solution would have to include early detection, but the intervention would most likely focus on factors that cause all types of child abuse. Despite the widespread occurrences of all forms of abuse, emotional neglect or maltreatment are practically impossible to detect while they occur and impair the child s normal development and social integration. Emotional abuse includes includes verbal, mental, and psychological maltreatment of children, and it is frequently overlooked by the community and mental health professionals who do not define emotional abuse as a suitable factor for diagnostic purposes (as cited in Schneider, Baumrind, Kimerling, 2007). In the sixties and seventies, a hippie was widely accepted, but now being transgender is not favorable. The hiring process has many different attributes that employers have to deal with. Some aspects include physical appearance, lifestyle, and language. For several decades, the law has forbidden discriminationagainst individuals based on age, race, national origin, or sex, and these factors should not be in job specifications or recruitment advertisements (Shaw, 2014, 284). Employment discrimination against physical appearance, lifestyle, and language is not only wrong but also unethical. I.Physical Appearance Psychologists have long known that people form impressions of others purely based on their appearance (Duarte, Siegel, Young, 2012, p.2455). Today s society puts great importance on people s physical appearance (Yang, Stoeber, 2012, p.69). Not everyone can be have a size 2 Victoria Secret model body or look like Duane Johnson (The Rock). Stephen King is often associated with the horror genre because of his excessive use of gore in his novels. However, gore is merely a side agenda that helps King shape his ideas. Instead, King s main goal is to create suspense. By creating a vivid image of the impact of a murder, rape, or other catastrophe he is able to foster his goal by unnerving his reader and creating a conflict. While there, a group of protesters, opposed to President Reagan s reelection, burned an American flag. Specifically, Greg Johnson was seen dousing the flag with kerosene and lighting it on fire. Johnson was arrested under a Texas flag desecration law. He was convicted and sentenced to one year in jail and fined $2000. The act for which appellant was convicted was clearly speech contemplated by the First Amendment. The court also stated that, Recognizing that the right to differ is the centerpiece of our First Amendment freedoms, the court explained, a government cannot mandate by fiat a feeling of unity in its citizens. Therefore, that very same government cannot carve out a symbol of unity and prescribe a set of approved messages to be associated with that symbol when it cannot mandate the status or feeling the symbol purports to represent. The Supreme Court found that the state s first interest of preserving the flag as a symbol of national unity was not made. The state had not shown that the flag was in danger of being stripped of its symbolic value, the Texas court also decided that flag s special status was not endangered by Johnson s actions. The court also concluded that that the flag desecration statute was not drawn narrowly enough to encompass only those flag burnings that were likely to result in a serious disturbance of the peace. The flag burning in this particular case did not threaten such a reaction. There were only a few witnesses to the act that stated that they were upset with the action but were not harmed in any way.
