Analysis Of Sex Pistols Anarchism, Freedom, And Power
During the 1970s, anarchy engulfed the minds of British youth because they felt that authority was
denying their freedom with excessive rules and regulations. William O. Reichert the author of
Anarchism, Freedom, and Power argues Anarchist insists that the idea of human liberty, while it
cannot be made an absolute, must be maintained as the highest of all human values. Freedom, that
is to say is the essential characteristic of a fully developed humanity...Nevertheless it must not be
lost sight of as the guiding star of all social science, for to be human is to be free. This quote
illustrates that experiencing life in total freedom is the philosophy that grounded anarchismand
influenced the outbreak of the punk subculture. However, during... Show more content on

Despite the basic choices in design, the magazines effectively were able to communicate the
message of anarchy to British youth. However, a year later, in 1977, punk bands started to
incorporate more successful design elements. For example, [fanzines] compiled photographs of
desolate and graffitied London landscapes that reflected punk s dystopian vision of No Future
...the graphic design of punk zines soon advanced to incorporate collage, montage, illustration
and a wider colour palette that contrasted with the simply typed or handwritten black and white
aesthetic of most earlier examples. This stark change in the punk aesthetic is seen London s
Outrage, no. 2, 1977, title page and p. 3 (See image 3) . On the right side of the magazine
spread, there is a black and white photo of an apartment building, a young teenager, and the
typeset headline that says London s Outrage. The typography of this layout is quite notable and
exudes chaos. For example, the L and the O are cut off by the edge of the paper. Additionally,
the word London is set on a diagonal path which is crooked that leads the viewers eye to a
building. The word Outrage is kinked too, but not nearly as pronounced as London. On the left
side of the magazine spread, there is a photo of a landscape that looks trashed and desolate.
However, on the bottom, hand written letters say Ay

Abnormal Psychology And Oppression
Looking at the course title, Abnormal Psychology, I expected to learn about mental illnesses,
including the dynamics of schizophrenia and the perpetual spiral of depression. On the first day
of class, I realized that what would be discussed would be completely different from what I had
expected. Instead of what I had previously thought about individuals being abnormal, I had to shift
my way of thinking to question whether it was the people who were abnormal, or whether the
society itself was the problem. Through insightful readings, discussions, and lectures I have
developed my own opinions on the impact of oppression; how to think about mental disorders; and
the system of the DSM, psychiatry, and insurance systems. There is no real way... Show more

Culture is defined as the parts of individual identity one participates in by choice or force in the
society in which they live. Religion, wealth, and health are all cultures in the American society.
Oppression comes in forms such as racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, heterosexism,
ableism, ageism, religious prosecution, and so on. Marilyn Frye (2000) explains in her essay
Oppression, that the root of the word oppression is the element press, presses are used to mold
or flatten things to reduce them by squeezing them, something pressed is caught between forces
and barriers which are so related to each other that they restrain, restrict, or prevent the thing s
mobility. (Frye, 2000, 11) Oppression immobilizes, it stems from the misunderstanding of
people of different cultures who see others as deviant from the norm in their culture or the
overall norm in society. For example, Joreen (1968) writes in the Bitch Manifesto that the most
prominent characteristic of all Bitches is that they rudely violate conceptions of proper sex role
behavior, the violation is different for each Bitch, but they all violate them (Joreen, 1968, 1).
People then generally feel uncomfortable around Bitches, considering them aberrations, which
leads the culture to create a dumping ground for all who they deplore as bitchy and call them
frustrated women. The same oppression that is subjected to bitches for deviating from the norm
is placed on all deviant groups within society, especially those who are stigmatized with the label
of having a mental health illness. And each mental health illness has its own form of oppression,
its own tag of stigma based on how severe (aka deviant) from the norm society and different
cultures consider it. For example, feeling godly is considered by the culture of religion to be
relatively normal or honorable, whereas by the rest of society

Utopia And Leviathan
Thomas More sUtopia and Thomas Hobbes Leviathan each offer alternatives to the worlds in
which they lived.. More s society, viewed through the character Hythloday, is seemingly based
on man s nature in society being generally good, and the faults of man emanate from how society
itself is set up. Hobbes takes the opposite view of human nature, where man s will to survive
makes him unable to act out of goodness and it is man who is responsible for society s ills.
Both Leviathan and Utopia contain faults in logic that work to undermine the very possibility for
these new social structures. In the following I will show how each of their views for a new society
give insight into what their beliefs of human nature are, while showing some ... Show more content

Close inspection of these rules give insight into how More may have really viewed human nature.
In the following excerpts we find evidence that More may have found man untrustworthy and in
need of social control, or at the very least spiritual control.
The vast majority of Utopians В¦ believe in a single power, unknown, eternal, infinite,
inexplicable, far beyond the grasp of the human mind, and diffused throughout the universe, not
physically but in influence. Him they call father, and to him alone they attribute the origin,
increase, progress, change, and end of all visible things; they do not offer divine honors to any
other. В¦ (Utopus) left the whole matter (choosing a religion) open, allowing each person to
choose what he would believe. The only exception was a positive and strict law against anyone
who would sink so far below the dignity of human nature as to think that the soul perishes with
the body, or that the universe is ruled by blind chance, not divine providence. В¦ Therefore a man
who holds such views is offered no honors, entrusted with no offices, and given no public
responsibility, he is universally regarded as a low and sordid fellow пїЅ (pp.516 518 This excerpt
shows the ambivalence that More has about human nature. He sees man as essentially good but
whenever an individual has ideas of their own they are regarded as inferior. This creates another

Of The Cold War Changed By Gorbachev And The End Of The...
This essay will prove how the end of the cold war was caused by Gorbachev and his policies to a
large extent. The end of the Cold war was also due to President Reagan and the collapse of The
Soviet Union to a smaller extent. Gorbachevs policies were Glasnost and perestroika. Perestroika
translates to restructuring and this was the restructuring of the economy from the state, and the
social and political restructuring. Glasnost translates to openness and this was the freedom of the
press. Glasnost and Perestroika were ultimately the cause of the fall of Gorbachev. President
Reagan was Anti Soviet and called communists Good Marxist Leninists. The end of the cold war

Reagan called the soviet union the focus of evil in the modern world and called Soviet leaders
good Marxist Leninists (source G). There was the creation of the Reagan Doctrine and this
doctrine was military and goods that would be sent to movements that were trying to overthrow
Soviet rule. Reagan also introduced the Strategic defense initiative (SDI) and this was a research
program to deploy missiles to destroy nuclear weapons. Both of the Reagan Doctrine and the
Strategic Defense Initiative was created because of Reagan being anti soviet. Ilya Zaslavsky
believed that it was Reagan who created perestroika and glasnost, not Gorbachev. (source o)
Some historians believe that the end of the Cold War was due to the communication and talks
between Gorbachev and Reagan. (source E) In Geneva 1985 Reagan threatened Gorbachev to
reduce or continue the arms race. Gorbachev agreed on the condition that the United States would
agree to not deploy their Nuclear weapons. The two leaders came to an agreement in 1987 when
both signed the Intermediate range nuclear forces treaty (INF). This led to a partnership between

Benefits of Using Cloud Computing in E-Learning
BENEFITS OF USING CLOUD COMPUTING IN E LEARNING
One of the most interesting applications of cloud computing is educational cloud. The educational
cloud computing can focus the power of thousands of computers on one problem, allowing
researchers search and find models and make discoveries faster than ever. The universities can also
open their technology infrastructures to private, public sectors for research advancements. The
efficiencies of cloud computing can help universities keep pace with ever growing resource
requirements and energy costs. Students expect their personal mobile devices to connect to campus
services for education. Faculty members are asking for efficient access and flexibility when
integrating technology into their classes. Researchers want instant access to high performance
computing services, without them responsibility of managing a large server and storage farm. The
role of cloud computing at university education should not be underestimated as it can provide
important gains in offering direct access to a wide range of different academic resources, research
applications and educational tools. Usually, E learning systems are developed as distributed
applications, but not limited to. The architecture of an e learning system, developed as a distributed
application, includes a client application, an application server and a database server, beside the
hardware to support it (client computer, communication infrastructure and servers).

12 Signs Of The Zodiac In Western Astrology
There are a total of twelve signs of the zodiac in western astrology; Aries, Taurus, Gemini,
Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. People believe
that different signs of the zodiac present different characteristics of those people who were born
in those months. It is said that Leos for example are strong willed yet vain and are represented by
the lion; Cancers are said to be kind and gentle yet subjective, represented by the crab. The
connections to the Zodiac, in the novelGrendel, can be subjective however are very important to the
understanding of the story. The final six chapters of Grendel are represented by the signs of the

Downloading Music with and without Permission
In this era, millions of people either download or stream music. Music apps focus on providing
the public with free music to listen or download; YouTube provides the public to watch music

There are literally billions of songs available to download, which are easy to get. All the public
has to do is install a file the allows you to share programs. Anyone who has a phone or a
computer can download music for free by using the internet. Whatever goes on the internet stays in
cyberspace forever. Lots of people download music using some type of program or app. If you don
t, then you might know someone who does. It is that common. According the U.S copyrightoffice, is
that if you download copyrighted material without permission, you are breaking the law.
Copyright law protects the value of creative work. When you make unauthorized copies of
someone s creative work, you are taking something of value from the owner without his or her
permission. ( RIAA) Technology has made it possible and easier to download music for free,
but it is legal to do so. When downloading music from sites it is okay to do so, if the site has the
official permission of the owners to copyright their music; whether if the sites charges. For
example the app Pandora is legal. Pandora is a radio app that streams music. While the user is
listening to Pandora, they are offered the ability to buy songs or albums. There

Personal Resilience Essay
Whether minor or extreme, everyone faces hardships. However, the individual has the ability to
decide how he or she will be impacted. People can allow their difficulties to prevail, or people can
make it an opportunity to better themselves. Throughout my life, I have truly realized my
resilience in the face of adversity and used this recognition to accelerate my leadership roles, both
of which bring me to be interested in health disparities and the Wayne Med Direct Program.
As a person who has gone through so many trials, I know what it is like to be confronted with
the crossroad of self destruction and resilience. When I was twelve years old, my grandpa was
diagnosed with his first of four cancers. It was heartbreaking to see someone so dear to me suffer,
but I had to learn to transform the situation into a positive experience despite the sorrowful
circumstances. As a young girl, I was useless in the fight against cancer while having an
overwhelming desire to help. This encouraged my interest in healthcare because doctors are
qualified to give aid to people who need it. Furthermore, seeing the needs of a cancer patient caused

Charles Babbage s Analytical Engine
In 1842, Ada Lovelace learned that Charles Baggage had given a series of lectures on his
Analytical Engine. Luigi Federico Menabrea had written up the lectures in the French work, Sketch
of Charles Babbage s Analytical Engine. Though Babbage would never build the Analytical Engine,
its concept was groundbreaking for the time. It was essentially the first idea for a programmable
computer. Ada was so fascinated with the topic that she decided to translate the work into
English. Babbage was impressed with her work and asked her why she had not herself written
an original paper on a subject which she is so intimately acquainted (du Preez 108). At the time,
women rarely were able to publish original work. They were usually forced to do as Ada did,
merely translate the work of men. Ada successfully managed to circumvent this obstacle by
adding a series of notes to Babbage s original text. Her notes ended up being three times as long as
the original, and even corrected many of the mistakes that Babbage had made. He noted that in
doing so Ada was able to enter fully into almost all the very difficult and abstract questions
connected with the subject (du Preez 108). These notes laid out the concept of computer
programming and the required elements for a computer language. Unfortunately, Ada was still
required to use a pseudonym, her initials A.A.L, in order to get the notes published in journals.

Monohybrid and Dihybrid Inheritance

Gregor Johann Mendel Moravian scientist who become known as the founder of the modern
science of genetics. He conducted pea plant experiments between 1856 and 1863 through which he
established many of the rules of heredity, now referred to as the laws of Mendelian inheritance.
Mendel s Law of Inheritance:
This law involves inheritance of biological features. In 1915 Mendel s theories were integrated with
the Boveri Sutton chromosome theory of inheritance by Thomas Hunt Morgan and they became the
core of classical genetics. Then in 1930 Ronald Fisher combined them with the theory of natural
selection in his book The Genetical Theory of Natural Selection, this put evolution onto ... Show

Law of Independent Assortment
The Law of Independent Assortment states that alleles for separate traits are passed from parents to
offspring independently from each other. Proof of this principle was achieved through dihybrid and
monohybrid cross experiments. Independent assortment occurs in eukaryotic organisms during
meiotic metaphase I, and produces a gamete with a mixture of the organism s chromosomes. The
physical basis of the independent assortment of chromosomes is the random orientation of each
bivalent chromosome along the metaphase plate with respect to the other bivalent chromosomes.
Along with crossing over, independent assortment increases genetic diversity by producing many
genetic combinations.
Law of Dominance
Mendel s Law of Dominance states that recessive alleles will always be masked by dominant
alleles. This means a cross between a homozygous dominant and a homozygous recessive will
always express the dominant phenotype whilst still having a heterozygous genotype. Proof of this
principle was achieved using a mono hybrid cross experiment: In a cross between two organisms
of contrasting traits the trait that is expressed is called dominant and the trait that is suppressed is
called recessive.
Dominance and Co dominance
Dominance and co dominance was discovered by Gregor Mendel when he found that if two
parents with different variations of a similar trait were cross bred, the offspring would only display

Descriptive Essay On The Creperie
A chalkboard caught my eye as a I strolled down the streets of Old Town Flagstaff. Scribbled in
an array of colors was a quote by Nelson Mandela No one is born hating another person because
of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they
can learn to hate, then they can be taught to love. For love comes more naturally to the human
heart than its opposite . It was sat in front of a little alcove of an eatery called The Creperie.
Seeing the establishment transported me back to the summer of my freshman year when I went to
Paris with my family and enjoyed artisan crepes in a little cafe near the Seine river. My stomach
immediately began to grumble just thinking about those crepes, and I decided then that I would try
out The Creperie. However, the service, food, and ambiance would need to be superb in order to
match the level of the authentic French cuisinethat I ve enjoyed. When I walked through the door,
moreso opening in the brick wall, of The Creperie, I was greeted with a warm smile by a middle
aged Hispanic woman. She asked me about my day, my studies at college, and how I enjoyed
living in Flagstaff. Though this may come across to most as normal niceties, she seemed to be
genuinely interested in what I had to say. Not being familiar with the menu items, I asked her
which dessert crepe she preferred. This was met with her giving me different options for different

Collectivism In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Ayn Rand uses the theme of collectivism and why it is evil throughout Anthem. Collectivism
refers to the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. The main
character in her novel is Equality 7 2521, and she talks about how he despises the society s way
of collectivism. I will be talking about the ways in which Ayn Randuses Equality 7 2521 to show
why collectivism is an evil thing, and what he tries to do when he wants to change the rule of
his society. The collectivist society in which Equality 7 2521 lives within is similar to the Nazi
and Communists states of the twentieth century. The leaders of this society do not permit
individual thinking, but to be like a fragment in a group whose purpose is to serve its needs.
Equality 7 2521 states, We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the great WE,

Comparing Alienation In The Scarlet Letter And Easy A
In both the fiction romance novel, The Scarlet Letter, composed by American novelist, Nathaniel
Hawthorne and the romantic movie comedy Easy A, administered by American film director, Will
Gluck, the topic of alienation can be detected throughout the plot in order to show how the main
female characters in each work, have experienced the state of being isolated from a group or
community. Both creators and organizers of each piece of work, establish an ambivalent tone
towards the main female character. One of the most prominent topics found throughout both Easy A
and The Scarlet Letter, is that of alienation. In The Scarlet Letter, before the plot of the noveleven

fact that she wandered into sin, she is singled out for criticism by those and women of the

How might the business you have chosen improve the way that it motivates its staff?

This will cause staff to start their work early as they are then already at work. A consequence of this
is increasing their employee s attendance and punctuality therefore productivity increases.
Another advantage of offering free food to Jaguar Land Rover staff is that they are encouraged to
do overtime. This is because their dinner would already be paid for. This can cause employees to
do extra work and increase sales. Resulting in the business to gain more profit.
However, offering employees free food can be a weakness in some aspects. For example, jaguar can
lose money by offering their employees free food. This is because jaguar land rover in castle
Bromwich has over 2500 employees which would then result it being very expensive for them all
to take advantage of this motivational method. Moreover causing Jaguar Land Rover to lose profit
and therefore won t be able to afford the equipment to not only make cars but specialised ones.
Another disadvantage of offering free food to Jaguar Land Rover staff is that the company may be
open to health risks. This is because the chemicals and fumes, machinery and being round dust
could create health hazards within the food content being served. The consequences of this are,
more employees will take time off work to recover and reduce the amount of cars produced.
I conducted some primary research and asked 5 members of staff what new methods of motivation
they would like to see jaguar adapt to

Entrapment In Rebecca
Du Maurier s Rebecca can be seen to be as a Modern Classic Gothic Text in many ways. Gothic
texts often focus on the supernatural, picturesque secluded setting and a hint of violence or
masochism. Rebecca shows these elements, from the lonely mansion of Manderley, to the
flashbacks of the unnamed narrator s life; but mostly the entire story is underscored by the ghost of
Rebecca and her haunting presence in the narrator s life. This is what makes the text truly Gothic.
Gothic fiction often presents the readers with a secluded setting and a feeling of entrapment and
imprisonment. This is completely true of the secluded setting of Manderley and the shy unnamed
narrator of Rebecca. In one section of the book, she says were two high iron gates...the gates had ...

The Literary Modernism Time Period
The literary modernism time period was a movement in literature that started in the early 1890s
and was very eventful. During this era there were many considerable events taking place such as

years and finally ended in 1918, but its effects lasted much longer. The financial instability of

them. It made people think of not only the society as a whole, but themselves as individuals (

When Laura becomes aware of this news, she immediately suggests calling off the party. Mrs.
Sheridan, Laura s mother, is repugnant against the idea of canceling the party. Jose also
displeased with Laura s suggestion and says, If you re going to stop a band playing every time

Laura s exhortative remarks for them to cancel the party, the previous planes still uphold.
Towards the end of the party, Laura and her father converse about the deceased gentleman while
eating some sandwiches. Laura decides to bring the leftovers to the widow of the recently
departed man in a basket, and when she arrives she is invited in to the house. She does not want
to go in but the widow insists and Laura is given no choice. When she goes in, she is brought to
the body of the deceased and sees how carefree his face is. She contemplates the importance of
everything that she once thought had importance and realizes that no one material thing truly
mattered to him at this point. She begins to cry and runs out of the house, only after managing to
utter, Forgive my hat, (Short Stories). She then runs into Laurie who is outside, sent by their
mother. He notices that she is crying, and she says, Isn t life... isn t life (Short Stories). She did not

1985 Dbq
DBQ 1985The colonists were living in a brand new country that had no track record. Considering
that the articles of confederation had no precedent to follow, and no other government to imitate;
the articles were fairly good. However, the Articles of Confederation could have been more
effective than they were. Effective does not necessarily mean that the government was strong. It
does mean that the government was able to provide the people with the kind of government they
wanted and needed. Also, ineffective does not necessarily mean weak. The Articles were
deliberately written for a weak central government, the colonists set it up they way they wanted to.

They were not immediately ratified because there were land disputes and there had to be a
unanimous decision. Everybody hat wanted and claimed more land than they had. New Jersey,
Maryland and Delaware all had no claims. These states were the ones who initially refused to ratify
the Articles; they were not prepared to ratify a constitution which gave them no say in any matters.
The larger states on the other hand felt that they were underrepresented. They were hoping for more
equality in size (document E). Eventually, Maryland changed their minds about ratifying the
constitution because they ceded the land. Since the government could not tax, they were in major
financial trouble. They began to print continentals which were not backed by any commodities so
they were worthless. The rest of the world meanwhile was waiting to see how Britain would react;
so they were afraid to get too friendly with the colonists. The colonists though, knew that it was
time to build up trade and trust with other countries. Eventually, their financial plans fell through,
so France and the Netherlands made loans and were able to help keep the United States afloat. The
Articles of Confederation confirmed the weak decentralized system which was already in operation.
The Articles did not make it clear that the Congress was to be a real government. It was therefore,
an uncertain central government. Many people felt that the colonists should just try to set up a new
confederation

Definitions Of Cultural Beliefs
Cultural expressions are a way that a person can identify who they are. It is a way for other
people to get to know that individual personally. I begin with talking about three cultural
expressions that identify who I am. I will talk about each expression individually and explain the
importance meaning they each have in my life. I will talk about how each expression defines
me and my beliefs. I will conclude with what people might think or assume that my cultural
expressions say about me. I begin with my first cultural expression. When I was growing up and
I would go visit at my dad s house my Aunt Lupe would always have a candle burning on the
stove. It is one of those candles that you can buy at the grocery or dollar store. The candle has
Jesus or the Virgin Mary also known as (La Virgin De Guadalupe) on them usually or some
religious figure and they also have prayer on them. Some come in English and some in Spanish.
I would always wonder way my Aunt always had a candle burning all day long. I knew she was
very religious and catholic but I never understood the candle. One day I decided to ask my Aunt
what the candle burning meant. My Aunt told me that it keeps us safe and cleanses the house of
any evil. From that day on I always believed that my Aunt premonitions were true and that if I
keep a candle burning I would always be safe in my home. My Aunt always made me feel safe
and brought me a sense of peace. I always have a candle burning in my home and now that my Aunt

Verizon Competitive Analysis
Describe your company s position and ability to compete on analytics.
Verizon, the company that I work for, is most known for its position within the Telecommunications
industry. Within that industry, Verizon definitely has the ability to compete on analytics. As the
leader within the telecommunications industry, we are always looking for better ways to serve our
customers and improve ourselves and using analytical technologies help us keep ahead of our
competitors. Recently, with the acquisitions of AOL and Yahoo, Verizon has looked to branch out
into the Content and Media industry. This even furthers Verizon s ability to compete on analytics

company formally became Verizon Communicationsafter its purchase of GTE and after the
establishment of Verizon Wireless through a joint venture with Vodafone, the company started to
transition into stage 3. Verizon s senior managementwere focused on increasing their network of
coverage, which was their distinctive capability, so they could have an advantage over their
competitors. Now, Verizon needed to find ways to improve their network and with all of the
data that was provided to them from their customers they were able to use analytics to further
improve themselves and stay competitive. I believe Verizon s current status is in stage 4. Senior
executives are committed to using analytics to better utilize the network and better serve our
customers. We are in the process of trying to use analytics to differentiate ourselves from our
competitors and streamline those analytic processes across the company so that everyone is on
the same page and we are efficient. Verizon already uses a good amount of analytical techniques
that have helped the company get to the position that it currently is in today. We are looking to the

A Brief Look at Anna Freud
Anna Freud once said, Creative minds have always been known to survive any kind of bad
training. This quote makes absolute sense. If something is bad creative minds come up with
ideas to make it fun or interesting instead of boring and ordinary. This is also proven by the fact
that several people are raised in negative situations and yet still lead successful lives. This can
also be said about non creative minds. If a person gets everything given to them such as a rich
person, they don t have to work towards a goal and do not have to come up with any new ways to
do anything. Anna Freudaccomplished a lot through her life time from her childhood until her
death and even after. Anna Freud was the daughter of Sigmund and Martha Freud of Vienna.
She was the youngest of six children. She was born December 3, 1895. She went to school at the
private school, Cottage Lucreum. She lived a very unhappy childhood and grew up very distant
from her siblings. Her main sibling rival was her sister older sister, Sophie. When Sophie got
married it made Anna very happy to see her go. Sophie was said to be very beautiful. After Sophie
left and got married, Anna wrote a letter to her father in which she said that she was happy to see
Sophie go not just for her getting married but because now the constant competition that they had
between each other was now over and she had all of her father s attention focused on her.
When she was in her teen years her father would start analyzing her.

The Burlington Exhibitions
Even two decades later and during another exhibition, this time in London and at the royal academy
of Burlington, when for the first time the concept of Iranian nationality was inserted to the
exhibition theme, nothing emancipatory happened to the art of the Muslims. Moreover this time
the exhibition had a greater aesthetic cause and Islamic art had been considered as a subdivision of
the art of the Persian nation. Burlington exhibition like its other European and American
counterparts was not simply an introductory show for the curious eyes of the European who were
either looking for different exotic artifacts to invent a new trend or making accurate estimations for
their antique collection. Along with other exhibitions it contributed to the formation of a discipline;
however before the authentic academic purposes, it was in the service of constructing a strong
national identity for Iranians who were trying to gain recognition with the help of cultural capitals.

Drug Abuse In Sports Research Paper
Drug Abuse in Professional Sports Drug abuse, and its consequences, is a problem in all sports,
even among sports most decorated athletes. For instance, Alex Rodriguez was a professional
baseball player who played with the New York Yankees. He was a three time all star with 696
homeruns under his belt. Towards the end of his career, MLB authorities found that he had been

Frank Zappas s Testimony On Labeling Music
Frank Zappas s testimony on labeling music (specifically rock) that is explicit to listeners was
definitely unforgettable. His argument was vague and unrelated to the issue of labeling explicit
music. His testimony was off topic at times, and only helped ruin his argument along with his
constant attacks against the PMRC. It s actually hard to pinpoint what Mr. Zappa did well because
for every positive argument, he made a negative attack that lessened his credibility.Repeatedly,
Frank Zappadestroys his argument over and over until the very end of his testimony. Mr. Zappa
seemed to have no filter on his words and spoke on everything he thought was wrong with the

Zappa said, ladies, please be advised the $8.98 purchase price does not entitle you to a kiss on
the foot from the composer or performer in exchange for a spin on the family Victrola. Taken as

kind of toilet training program to house break all composers and performers because of the
lyrics of a few. Ladies, how dare you? (Zappa, 1985, 4:59). This is an example of a generality
and an appeal to fear. The generality is when he says the PMRC with its rules is trying to house
break all performers and composers(all is an overly vague term) and the appeal to fear is when he
tries to scare artists into seeing how horrible the PMRC is with its sinister rules. However, this
statement and others in his testimony only made the senate see Frank Zappa as nothing more than
irrelevant with his disrespectful language. Throughout his entire testimony, Frank Zappa
constantly went off topic along with verbally attacking and being disrespectful towards the

Great Depression During The Depression
Great Depression DBQ The Great Depression, however inevitable, took people by surprise when
the stock market crashed in 1929. At first people did not fully understand the state of the
economy, they could not wrap their heads around the transition from popping champagne bottles
to eating bread crumbs for dinner. People were expecting a quick fix to the problem, assuming
their lives to go back to normal after a few months, ultimately underestimating the situation
America was in. As a result, no one was prepared to properly combat the extreme shortage of
food, jobs, and money in the years to come. One of the first resources to go during the depression
was food, partially due to the lack of money to afford it and the almost impossible production of it
due to the Dust Bowl. During the early stages of the depression people were still holding out for a
miracle to revive their economy because of this many individuals tried to live as they did before
instead of trying to conserve food for later, ultimately exhausting their pantry. A photograph taken
by H.W. Felchner in 1932 depicts a long line of people wrapping around a corner waiting for a
meal at a restaurant. The picture also accurately illustrates the desperation of the people in like
waiting for anything to eat, as they ate all their food at home. Because many of the American

Marie Brosie Tepe Essay
Of all people, Marie Brose Tepe deserves the Eagle Award because of her bravery and patriotism.
Marie was a vivandiere, joined the 27th and the 114th Pennsylvania infantry , and fought in The
Battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg, for the Union troops, during the Civil
War. When fighting on the battlefield against the Confederacy, she healed many wounded soldiers
which were nearly within range of enemy fire. Nothing would stop her from helping others, not
even a bullet stuck in her ankle. Tepe was committed to being a vivandiere at only 27, following
her husband in the 27th Pennsylvania. She initially sold goods, such as contraband whiskey, to the
soldiers. She then left the regiment and joined the 114th Pennsylvania Infantry. Her monthly pay

to establish a field hospital. Sadly, while helping those in need, she caught a bullet in her left ankle.

others, but later on, to her dismay, she was forced to receive treatment for her wound. After a short
hospitalization, she then rejoined the regiment, feeling the need to fight for her nation. Marie and
her regiment furthermore joined the fight at Gettysburg. When the battle was over, she volunteered
her services as a nurse to help the wounded. After a few weeks of tending to the injured, she

The Effects Of Fishing On The Big Trophy Winners
When I come it fishing, let s just say I am hooked like a large mouth bass is hooked to my line.
Ever since I was a boy and my dad took me and my brother fishing, I could never get enough of it.
Every time I would come home from school, I would ask my dad when are we going fishing and
he would always say boy there more than just fishing but being a young boy fishing was the only
thingI would wantto do. The older I got, the worse I got about fishing, I would always want the
new rod or gear that just came. I have been to fishing shows and watch fishing on the TV and I
always wanted to be just like the man I show be able to catch the big trophy winners.
Every time I walk into Walmart, it didn t matter what I was there in the first place that I would
have to go is the fishing area. I would walk out with what I really was there for than some new
gear that I need to fix my old gear or to replace and to double up on. The most that I am at my
worse is when I walk into a Bass Pro Shop, due to the fact I don t have any of the stories near me,
I would go crazy. I would look like a chicken that just got his head cut off running around see
everything that I can. It was like I died and went to heaven, the last time that I got a new hat and
some bait. I would spend hours just looking and wondering how good this will work for me may
it be a new rod, reel, hooks, bait, or even line. It doesn t matter if I have something similar to what
I was looking at but for me, I always thought

The Protest Song By Charles Albert Tindley
The protest song selected for this report was We Shall Overcome (Various Artists, 1945) written
by various artists, with lyrics originating from an older activist s hymn. This report will cover the
history, purpose, lasting effects, and the value of We Shall Overcome and its predecessor I ll
Overcome Someday . We Shall Overcomethe protest song has found itself tied to multiple social
movements, however, its origin has its roots planted in the civil rights movement. After
researching about this song I came across the fact that the lyrics and the style of the song
originated from I ll Overcome Some Day , a hymn created by Charles Albert Tindley, An East
Coast Methodist Minister, in 1901. Charles Tindley was the son of an African Americanslave father
and free mother. It wasn t until the mid 1940s (ten years after Charles had passed on, leaving
behind a lifetime of community work and activism) that we see the first rendition of the modern
We Shall Overcome as a protest song by a tobacco and food union group. A few short years later in
1947 this song s title was recognized as We Shall Overcome in an edition of people s songs bulletin
, a publication directed by Pete Seeger, who is very well known for his rendition of this song and
many others. This song is an anthem, a chant if you will. Its purpose is not to drag attention to a

In the very last paragraph of An Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Hume states, When we
run over libraries, persuaded of these principles, what havoc must we make? If we take in our
hand any volume; of divinity or school metaphysics, for instance; let us ask, Does it contain any
abstract reasoning concerning quantity or number? No. Does it contain any experimental reasoning
concerning matter of fact and existence? No. Commit it then to the flames: for it can contain
nothing but sophistry and illusion. (1) In other words, what Hume is expressing to us is that unless
we can provide empirical evidence to validate our arguments, we are not actually making a
statement of substance, and thus should disregard that idea. It is a waste of time to explore outside
the limits of reason relations of ideas and matters of fact, because those questions... Show more

Media, Violence, And Violence Essay
Violent crime statistics is continually increasing overtime, and there are a wide variety of factors
that contribute to this. One influencing factor would be the media. Media and violence are both
very wide and broad concepts that have massive impacts in our society, and it is important to
distinguish their relationship with each other. The types of media are things such as violent video
games, films, newspapers, magazines and television. One particular type of media that is often very
problematized is violent video games. Different studies have shown convincing and unconvincing
correlational in regards to the media and violence, but to whom do we believe?
The media, especially in today s modern society surrounds us all the time. It affects our daily lives
and has become part of our everyday routines, which is why it has such a huge impact on us, and
violent media is everywhere. It is known that by the time we get to our eighteenth birthday, we will
have seen and witnessed about 200,000 violent acts and about 16,000 murders (Media Education
Foundation, 2005). There have been ongoing controversial debates as to whether violent media
exposure contributes to violent and aggressive behaviours and whether one is caused by the other.
Violence includes, but is not limited to things such as murder, assault, homicide, shootings,
property offence, rape and assault. The mainstream and popular notion has been that violent video

Statement: Even after the Cherokee people were seen as not a threat, adapted to the way of the
settlers and became civilized, Andrew Jackson and his crew still thought it was mandatory to

arriving to America, Europeans treated Indians like savages. When Europeans discovered
America they had a drive to conquer land including the land the Natives lived on.(Layton 28)
Coming from a more advanced civilization in the Europeans eyes they thought they were better
than the Natives and therefore wanted to change the Natives way and wanting them to conform
to their society. (Mooney 37) The Trail of Tears was a journey of 900 miles that had took nine
months to complete. After being taken out of villages and homes, the Cherokee were put in
camps, where they had to wait for weeks before heading out in groups of 1,000, following
different paths than others depending on the time of year and season. They would travel to a land
unknown to them and have to survive off the land. B. In light of the discussion above the , even

Howl By Ginsberg Analysis
Have you ever read a poem or book and did not like it or could not understand it? I have, and the
poem is called Howl by Allen Ginsberg. Part one of Howl takes the reader on a rant filled
journey through Ginsberg s and his friends, The Beat generation, life experiences. Part two he
talks of everything he hates and uses the term Moloch to describe it. Part three he talks to Carl
Solomon, a friend of his. His angry tone and over the top use of imagery for government, drugs,
and sexuality leaves the readers wondering what the heck is going on and what is he really trying
to say? The reader has to break down each line to decipher what is really going on and through all
that time an effort; the value of the message is lost. Allen Ginsbergwas born on June 3, 1926, in

where you imitate the shade of my mother. (Howl, line 96). This line is understandable and shows
the audience the connection he feels with him. Ginsberg also brings the reader in on a little

The Environmental Hazards Of The United States
A common sight to a visitor on a beach in the U.S. is garbage that has been pitched by another
person or washed up on the beach, after it has been carelessly thrown away. All the carelessly
disposed of trash eventually accumulates, rather it be in one place, such as a landfill, or in many
places just dispersed and spread out, like litter. In 1997, Captain Charles Moore came across a
large trash deposit, while sailing in his boat, Alguita, in the pacific. What he encountered that
day could only be described as a floating continent of trash, which today has names such as trash
vortex , plastic soup , and Eastern Garbage Patch (Friedman 7 10). The mass of trash is still
present today and is calculated to be twice the size of the U.S., weighing in at around 100
million tons of trash (Friedman 7). This garbage patch is one of the leading growing
environmental hazards of the world today. The trash has been linked to cancer, caused by the
toxins released in the water from the plastics, the killing of seabirds, and the killing of more than a
100,000 marine mammals each year (Friedman 9). This is one of the negative effects human trash
is having on the planet and how people are now turning to recyclingto help resolve problems
similar to this. Today people in the U.S. alone produce 245 million tons of trash a year, which
helps contribute to problems like the trash vortex (Lazarus 13). Recycling would help cut this trash
flow significantly, while having other positive effects, if

Omagh Bombing Research Paper
These attacks destabilized The Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Great Britain as a whole.
While the motivation behind these attacks was ultimately intended to lead to the unification of
Ireland, the reality was the erosion of local and international sympathy and support for the IRA. The
Omagh bombing resulted in the condemnation from both the international community and Sinn
Fein and eventually led to peace talks between England the IRA. Throughout the history of the IRA,
and their subsequent groups, leaders have renounced violence only to have members splinter off
and form another terrorist organization to further their campaigns through violence. However, the
Omagh bombing significantly decreased the support and sympathy many Irish

Essay about Critical Response to the Turn of the Screw
Henry James novella the Turn of the Screw is a highly ambiguous piece of fiction. Set in
Edwardian England, a very naГЇve woman is left in charge of two young children. The beautiful
Bly however appears to be hiding a few dark secrets. The appearance of two ghosts plays on the
governess mind, she comes to the conclusion the children are in danger and being possessed by
these two horrors. Throughout the novella James successfully creates a mystical atmosphere, his
ambiguous style forces us to think twice about what is written and decide for ourselves whether or
not this is purely a ghoststory or something far more sinister. However after several reads and a
close look behind the words, it becomes clear that the ghosts that haunt the... Show more content on

A woman as fanciful and dreamy as this in such a position is not going to survive.
As we continue to read this novella we must notice the governess wild and unnecessary use of
elaborate adjectives to describe the simplest of things. Her style of writing in itself is quite
romantic and poetic, full of metaphors and oxymorons. However sometimes her choice of
words is so prompting we must take a closer look into perhaps a double or triple meaning. When
she first sights the ghost of Peter Quint on top of the house she is able to describe his position
with amazing precision in note of the fact she was some distance from him and her sighting was
quite brief. She comments he stood at an angle, tall and erect... he fixed me with a hard gaze and
when yet again she confides in Mrs Grouse she gives a very elaborate description commenting on
his tight red curls, pale face, long in shape, small tiny whickers, darker arched eyebrows and the
fact that he had no hat . The governess even uses phrases such as the intercourse of our
conversation added to the intensity of our meeting in description of everyday things such as normal
conversation. The governess certainly has deeper meaning behind most of her words.
The last and most important point in regards to the governess repressed sexual desires is her highly
inappropriate and unprofessional behaviour with both her pupils, in particular Miles. There is a
constant underlying power struggle between the two. The

The Role Of Sexist Stereotypes In Children
As you grow, you learn to differentiate and understand things of the world. Males are always
taught to be overly confident, charming, strong, and opinionated. While females are taught to
agree, care, build friendships, and support each other. There are those that believe this is just the
way each gender was designed. Whereas there are many that would agree the great mass of sexist
stereotypes and genderprofiling occurring within televised programs suited for children
contributes to how each gender behaves. Authors of Sesame Street: Brought to You by the Letters
M A L E , Diane Helman and Phyllis Bookspan discuss how one of the most favorited children s
show is sexist. I would advocate with the authors that there are programs intended for

Romanticism In The Gothic Novel
The Gothic Novel is a product of the inordinate imaginative capability that was present in the
slater part of the eighteenth century. It is known that the gothic novel s prototype was Horace
Walpole s The Castle of Otranto (1764). It foreshadows the modern novels that evoke horror and
terror in the minds of people who read them. It subtly suggests the psychological motivations of the
characters and the deep abysses of the human mind. The gothic is usually associated by people
with a prevailing sense of terrible. There are some stock and inherent properties that are common to
all gothic literature. The gothic novels make wholesome use of darkness, mystery and obscurity.
There is a note of moral didacticism in these novels. Consequently, they portray their characters as
binaries of virtue and vice. This polarization and an excessive use of sentimentalism sometimes...

But one must understand that an appropriate setting should accompany the plot. The gothic novel
cannot be merely dismissed as a precursor to the trend of horror fiction. It would not be ludicrous
to think of a spectre haunting a modern house, approaching its victim in the modern cinematic
version. The film makers would provide blood curdling visual effects and spine chilling sensation
to the audience. The gothic novels are more than that. They should not be termed as shoddy
literature. They sustain a person s tension and heighten his sense of anticipation. There is always a
prevailing aura of gloom and impending confrontation with the nemesis. While most modern horror
fiction and films would make use of a miasma of blood (blood ridden hair, tongue, eyes), hollow
cavities, entrails, distorted faces and so on, the gothic novels strikingly make themselves

Background or Introduction
Catheter associated urinary tract infections are the most common infections that occur in the
healthcare inpatient setting. Knowledge is sparse with CAUTI prevention in the emergency
department. Existing studies have shown the decreased use of catheters in the ED, however a
majority of them placed still do not qualify the medical need for such an intervention. This authors
goal is to understand CAUTI prevention better and to determine the most prevalent programs or
strategies for prevention that could decrease infections rates. This article written by these authors
had an exceptional abstract and the article was well written and thorough. This study was easy to

concerning CAUTIs. The author studied how urinary catheter placement was one of the biggest
reasons of hospital acquired infections today. The authors also studied current percentages of
catheters placed where no need of one is indicated. They also studies education regarding
compliance, appropriate uses, nurse derived initiatives and overall prevention of infections. The
citing of references were properly placed and had a sufficient reference page. Majority of the
articles were up to date. Fifteen of the twenty articles were written since 2010 and nine in the past

What About Bob
What About Bob is a movie about a man who has many psychological problems. He is not the
only one with problems though. The movie What About Bob? shows many psychological
disorders in a comedic light. From Agoraphobia, or the fear of open spaces, to Paranoid
Personality Disorder. This causes people to suffer paranoia or have a relentless mistrust and
suspicion of anybody other than themselves, normally when there is no reason to fear or be
suspicious of anyone at all. Most of the characters in the movie express at least one major
psychological disorder, and some even express two or more.
Though the movie centers around Bob Wiley, each and every one of the characters disorders are
shown. Bob s major disorder is his dependent personality disorder. The disorder is a long term
condition in which people depend too much on others to meet their emotional and physical
needs. Bob has always been dependent on his therapists. This is shown when he previous
therapist refers him to Dr. Marvin. Bob s attachment to his therapist is very stressful for the
therapist. This is scene throughout the film while Dr. Marvin nears breaking down. It is also
evident when Bob s old therapist is leaving his practice. It is obvious that Bob was the cause of
that. Bob is dependent on Dr. Marvin. This is seen as he tries to desperately call him after only
about a day after Dr. Marvin goes on vacation, and then even fakes his own suicide to find out
where the doctor was.
Dr. Marvin s disorder in the movie

Evolution Of Presidential Elections
The U.S. constitution assigned the task of handling elections to the states with the result being
fifty diverse election systems. At the legislative level, elections for the U.S. House of
Representatives are held every two years and the Senate elections are conducted every six years.
Typically, the president s party will lose seats in most elections; however, incumbents have a strong
propensity for winning reelection. The average campaign cost for a House of Representatives seat
is over $1.7 million and the average cost for a Senate race is $10.5 million. Thus, candidates spend
numerous hours raising money over the phone, through the mail, and at fundraising events. The
money raised pays for everything from television ads to campaign paraphernalia.... Show more

The first phase is the nominating process. The states work with the national parties to firm up their
specific primary election date. More Americans show up to vote in the general election than in the
primaries. A winning nominee must pick up a defined number of convention delegates that are
divvied out based on state population. Traditionally, a winner take all system where a candidate
had to win all of the delegates in order win the state has been used by the Republican Party.
Recently, the Republican Party has moved to the same system as the Democrats. The Democratic
Party selects their candidate through a proportional representation system whereby the delegates
are assigned based on the proportion of the vote the candidate wins. The second presidential
election phase consists of the two major party conventions and takes place in the summer before
the election. Conventions can give the party s nominee a lift in the polls, or an electoral boost,
lasting days into weeks. The third phase of the presidential election is the general election, which
begins after the conventions and ends on Election Day. During general election phase, two or three
debates are held between the

Pecola s Ugliness In The Bluest Eye
In the Autumn section of The Bluest Eye, the reader constantly sees Pecola Breedlove thinking
with a low sense of self esteem and dignity specifically towards her appearance and the way
others view her. Taking her ugliness, she begins to compare herself to members of the world
around her, in turn beating herself up over it. During the chapter, she approaches Mr. Yacobwski
s candy store and buys three pieces of a candy called Mary Janes. For some background, the
wrapper of the candy has A picture of little Mary Jane, for whom the candy is named. Smiling
white face. Blonde hair in gentle disarray, blue eyes looking at her out of a world of clean
comfort (50). These physical descriptions are exactly how Pecola wants to look which has been

Pecola s peers in school, mainly the girls, would find ways of mocking the boys through her
ugliness by shouting phrases like, Bobby loves Pecola Breedlove! Bobby loves Pecola
Breedlove! (46) an embarrassment for both parties involved. When it comes to the different
bystanders, their reaction is full of laughter with no sense of comfort. Additionally, one would
think that the adults around Pecola would give her some justice but it was the opposite. They
tried never to glance at her, and called on her only when everyone was required to respond (46).
The actions of the teachers further show how Pecola is received in her community since
stereotypically teachers should be the most accepting members, but even they follow suit, avoiding
Pecola and who she is. Altogether, it was not just Pecola planting seeds internally telling herself
how ugly she is but it came from many other people, some of which are respectable figures around

As of now, there is no vaccines or medications to eradicate the zika virus. However, Inovio
Pharmaceuticals are in the progress of working on a vaccine for the zike virus (Fellner, 2016).
There are methods to help decrease an individual of contacting the virus. Since the zika virus can
be spread by sexual contact, men and women should adhere to strict guidelines to prevent
transmission of the virus. The CDC advise men that traveled or resided in an active zika infected
area, the men should avoid having sexual contact with the spouse or use latex condoms during
any sexual contact. Individuals that are exposed to the zika virus should not donate blood. In the
environmental efforts, all efforts to remove mosquitos breeding sites are encouraged. For
example, buckets and pots should be evacuated and washed on a daily basis or covered. Gutters
or recycled tires needed to cleaned or removed, if feasible. Insect repellents that have DEET,

A List Of The Best Shopping Cart Software For E Commerce...
There are various types of e commerce software, hosted, licensed, and Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP). The size of the e commerce business is the best indicator of which ecommerce
software type is the best fit. ERP is intended for large businesses, licensed (hosted by your own
business server) is geared toward medium sized ecommerce shops, and hosted (where the
software is hosted by the developer), is recommended for very small or small businesses. I
turned to Jasmine A. s article A list of the Best Shopping Cart Software for E Commerce
Websites for details on each ecommerce software option. Based on Jasmine s article I learned
immediately that we could eliminate the hosted solution from the mix as Godiva.com is not a
small shop, and hosted solutions do not integrate well with other software. Additionally, the
Godiva site requires customization of the shopping cart s source code, which is not possible with
the hosted option, and lastly, Godiva has more than five product types sold on the site. In
considering the licensed option, although you have control over the software and you are able to
customize to a point, Rachel Andrew of Smashing Magazine.com reminds us that many open
source licensed options force you to use their templates, additionally, they may force you to turn on
JavaScript in order for the shopping cart to function properly. If you are able to update the script,
when the licensed software is upgraded by the system, it may overwrite your changes.

The Importance Of Mental Health Counseling
Mental Health counseling can be described as a therapy for people with emotional problems that
affect their day to day lives. One loses control of their own lives, needs skills, encouragement and
help to change their behaviors, which could be causing them to feel hopeless.
Wellness is helping a client by achieving their highest level of functioning through mind, body, and
spirit. Counselors must help their clients to become well again. By doing this Mental Health
Counselors should examine the client to see where their weaknesses are and their strength are. This
will give the Mental Health counselor a plan to help them reach balance in their life.
Resilience is a way someone deals with their stress and life concerns. In order for one to achieve
wellness, they must have resilience. The Counselor must help clients learn skills needed to deal
with their issues at hand and to be able to overcome or at least be able to handle them, so they can
become mentally well.
Counseling in the nineteenth century began when people started talking about their emotional
problems and was practiced in the form of advice. Earlier they called themselves social advocates,
teachers and helped people in education, legal reforms, and employment guidance. Sigmund Freud
developed the theory of psychoanalysis where it focused on the internal conflicts and brought about
psychotherapy. In the early 1900 s three pioneer s contributed to the advancement of counseling:
Frank Parsons, Jessie B Davis, and Clifford Beers. These important benchmarks helped to spread
its practice. First, in 1913 the national vocational guidance association (NVGA) the forerunner of
today s American Counseling Association. Second, in 1917 the Smith s Huge act provided public
school funding for vocational education. Last, the Army s psychological screening devices were set
for psychological testing.
Addiction Counseling has a history as early as native American advocacy leaders. In the nineteenth
century, temperance missionaries had lay alcohol therapists, and paraprofessional counselors
worked into the twentieth century and contributed to the evolution of modern addiction counseling
as a specialized profession.
Addiction counseling addresses the problems related to

Athletes As Agent Of Change
In the article, The Athlete as Agent of Change, the author states that athletes use the national
anthem to protest by turning their backs on the American flag, so they can influence the people.
People responded negatively when this happened and angrily taunted the athletes who were
involved with the protest. I believe that because our American society has the right to protest and
freedom of speech, athletes can show how they feel and influence the public to see their point of
view, but I do not agree with dishonoring our flag. Thousands of men have fought and will
continue to fight, so that our country can have freedom and safety, so if they dishonor the flag then
they are dishonoring those men who have died for us. I believe that it is disrespectful,

and urban spaces. Great books on architectural history and its dissemination can be found

This is always being posed in the light of the Dark Ages or Middle Ages, of which the name already
suggests the cloud of insignificance it is surrounded by according to many intellectuals. However,
before we can distinguish this superior Renaissance philosophy from earlier philosophy, it needs to
be established that medieval and Renaissance philosophy do relate to each other and are part of a
continuous process of increasing intellectual insights into the world and all its phenomena
(Copenhaver and Schmitt, 1992). Both medieval and Renaissance philosophy looked at heritage
from their ancestors, and it is not true that medieval philosophy completely disregarded the ancients
(Copenhaver and Schmitt, 1992). Rather, they treated the past differently, focusing on ancient
philosophy being a companion to theology and the word of God. There were various important
developments responsible for the different approach Renaissance philosophy took and its spread
throughout Europe, but the most important one can be said to be the introduction of the printing
press by Gutenberg in 1440 (Eisenstein, 1980). This development provided a rapid increase of
availability of texts to intellectuals and (Eisenstein, 1980). This technological development, along
with the rediscovery and recovery of ancient philosophical works in the late Middle Ages were

which would later become the basis of Renaissance philosophy (Stump, 1982; Copenhaver and

  • 2. Analysis Of Sex Pistols Anarchism, Freedom, And Power During the 1970s, anarchy engulfed the minds of British youth because they felt that authority was denying their freedom with excessive rules and regulations. William O. Reichert the author of Anarchism, Freedom, and Power argues Anarchist insists that the idea of human liberty, while it cannot be made an absolute, must be maintained as the highest of all human values. Freedom, that is to say is the essential characteristic of a fully developed humanity...Nevertheless it must not be lost sight of as the guiding star of all social science, for to be human is to be free. This quote illustrates that experiencing life in total freedom is the philosophy that grounded anarchismand influenced the outbreak of the punk subculture. However, during... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the basic choices in design, the magazines effectively were able to communicate the message of anarchy to British youth. However, a year later, in 1977, punk bands started to incorporate more successful design elements. For example, [fanzines] compiled photographs of desolate and graffitied London landscapes that reflected punk s dystopian vision of No Future ...the graphic design of punk zines soon advanced to incorporate collage, montage, illustration and a wider colour palette that contrasted with the simply typed or handwritten black and white aesthetic of most earlier examples. This stark change in the punk aesthetic is seen London s Outrage, no. 2, 1977, title page and p. 3 (See image 3) . On the right side of the magazine spread, there is a black and white photo of an apartment building, a young teenager, and the typeset headline that says London s Outrage. The typography of this layout is quite notable and exudes chaos. For example, the L and the O are cut off by the edge of the paper. Additionally, the word London is set on a diagonal path which is crooked that leads the viewers eye to a building. The word Outrage is kinked too, but not nearly as pronounced as London. On the left side of the magazine spread, there is a photo of a landscape that looks trashed and desolate. However, on the bottom, hand written letters say Ay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Abnormal Psychology And Oppression Looking at the course title, Abnormal Psychology, I expected to learn about mental illnesses, including the dynamics of schizophrenia and the perpetual spiral of depression. On the first day of class, I realized that what would be discussed would be completely different from what I had expected. Instead of what I had previously thought about individuals being abnormal, I had to shift my way of thinking to question whether it was the people who were abnormal, or whether the society itself was the problem. Through insightful readings, discussions, and lectures I have developed my own opinions on the impact of oppression; how to think about mental disorders; and the system of the DSM, psychiatry, and insurance systems. There is no real way... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Culture is defined as the parts of individual identity one participates in by choice or force in the society in which they live. Religion, wealth, and health are all cultures in the American society. Oppression comes in forms such as racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, heterosexism, ableism, ageism, religious prosecution, and so on. Marilyn Frye (2000) explains in her essay Oppression, that the root of the word oppression is the element press, presses are used to mold or flatten things to reduce them by squeezing them, something pressed is caught between forces and barriers which are so related to each other that they restrain, restrict, or prevent the thing s mobility. (Frye, 2000, 11) Oppression immobilizes, it stems from the misunderstanding of people of different cultures who see others as deviant from the norm in their culture or the overall norm in society. For example, Joreen (1968) writes in the Bitch Manifesto that the most prominent characteristic of all Bitches is that they rudely violate conceptions of proper sex role behavior, the violation is different for each Bitch, but they all violate them (Joreen, 1968, 1). People then generally feel uncomfortable around Bitches, considering them aberrations, which leads the culture to create a dumping ground for all who they deplore as bitchy and call them frustrated women. The same oppression that is subjected to bitches for deviating from the norm is placed on all deviant groups within society, especially those who are stigmatized with the label of having a mental health illness. And each mental health illness has its own form of oppression, its own tag of stigma based on how severe (aka deviant) from the norm society and different cultures consider it. For example, feeling godly is considered by the culture of religion to be relatively normal or honorable, whereas by the rest of society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Utopia And Leviathan Thomas More sUtopia and Thomas Hobbes Leviathan each offer alternatives to the worlds in which they lived.. More s society, viewed through the character Hythloday, is seemingly based on man s nature in society being generally good, and the faults of man emanate from how society itself is set up. Hobbes takes the opposite view of human nature, where man s will to survive makes him unable to act out of goodness and it is man who is responsible for society s ills. Both Leviathan and Utopia contain faults in logic that work to undermine the very possibility for these new social structures. In the following I will show how each of their views for a new society give insight into what their beliefs of human nature are, while showing some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Close inspection of these rules give insight into how More may have really viewed human nature. In the following excerpts we find evidence that More may have found man untrustworthy and in need of social control, or at the very least spiritual control. The vast majority of Utopians В¦ believe in a single power, unknown, eternal, infinite, inexplicable, far beyond the grasp of the human mind, and diffused throughout the universe, not physically but in influence. Him they call father, and to him alone they attribute the origin, increase, progress, change, and end of all visible things; they do not offer divine honors to any other. В¦ (Utopus) left the whole matter (choosing a religion) open, allowing each person to choose what he would believe. The only exception was a positive and strict law against anyone who would sink so far below the dignity of human nature as to think that the soul perishes with the body, or that the universe is ruled by blind chance, not divine providence. В¦ Therefore a man who holds such views is offered no honors, entrusted with no offices, and given no public responsibility, he is universally regarded as a low and sordid fellow пїЅ (pp.516 518 This excerpt shows the ambivalence that More has about human nature. He sees man as essentially good but whenever an individual has ideas of their own they are regarded as inferior. This creates another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Benefits of Using Cloud Computing in E-Learning BENEFITS OF USING CLOUD COMPUTING IN E LEARNING One of the most interesting applications of cloud computing is educational cloud. The educational cloud computing can focus the power of thousands of computers on one problem, allowing researchers search and find models and make discoveries faster than ever. The universities can also open their technology infrastructures to private, public sectors for research advancements. The efficiencies of cloud computing can help universities keep pace with ever growing resource requirements and energy costs. Students expect their personal mobile devices to connect to campus services for education. Faculty members are asking for efficient access and flexibility when integrating technology into their classes. Researchers want instant access to high performance computing services, without them responsibility of managing a large server and storage farm. The role of cloud computing at university education should not be underestimated as it can provide important gains in offering direct access to a wide range of different academic resources, research applications and educational tools. Usually, E learning systems are developed as distributed applications, but not limited to. People can allow their difficulties to prevail, or people can make it an opportunity to better themselves. Throughout my life, I have truly realized my resilience in the face of adversity and used this recognition to accelerate my leadership roles, both of which bring me to be interested in health disparities and the Wayne Med Direct Program. As a person who has gone through so many trials, I know what it is like to be confronted with the crossroad of self destruction and resilience. When I was twelve years old, my grandpa was diagnosed with his first of four cancers. It was heartbreaking to see someone so dear to me suffer, but I had to learn to transform the situation into a positive experience despite the sorrowful circumstances. As a young girl, I was useless in the fight against cancer while having an overwhelming desire to help. • 11. Charles Babbage s Analytical Engine In 1842, Ada Lovelace learned that Charles Baggage had given a series of lectures on his Analytical Engine. Luigi Federico Menabrea had written up the lectures in the French work, Sketch of Charles Babbage s Analytical Engine. Though Babbage would never build the Analytical Engine, its concept was groundbreaking for the time. It was essentially the first idea for a programmable computer. Ada was so fascinated with the topic that she decided to translate the work into English. Babbage was impressed with her work and asked her why she had not herself written an original paper on a subject which she is so intimately acquainted (du Preez 108). At the time, women rarely were able to publish original work. They were usually forced to do as Ada did, merely translate the work of men. Ada successfully managed to circumvent this obstacle by adding a series of notes to Babbage s original text. Her notes ended up being three times as long as the original, and even corrected many of the mistakes that Babbage had made. He noted that in doing so Ada was able to enter fully into almost all the very difficult and abstract questions connected with the subject (du Preez 108). These notes laid out the concept of computer programming and the required elements for a computer language. Unfortunately, Ada was still required to use a pseudonym, her initials A.A.L, in order to get the notes published in journals. He conducted pea plant experiments between 1856 and 1863 through which he established many of the rules of heredity, now referred to as the laws of Mendelian inheritance. Mendel s Law of Inheritance: This law involves inheritance of biological features. In 1915 Mendel s theories were integrated with the Boveri Sutton chromosome theory of inheritance by Thomas Hunt Morgan and they became the core of classical genetics. Then in 1930 Ronald Fisher combined them with the theory of natural selection in his book The Genetical Theory of Natural Selection, this put evolution onto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Law of Independent Assortment The Law of Independent Assortment states that alleles for separate traits are passed from parents to offspring independently from each other. Proof of this principle was achieved through dihybrid and monohybrid cross experiments. Independent assortment occurs in eukaryotic organisms during meiotic metaphase I, and produces a gamete with a mixture of the organism s chromosomes. The physical basis of the independent assortment of chromosomes is the random orientation of each bivalent chromosome along the metaphase plate with respect to the other bivalent chromosomes. Along with crossing over, independent assortment increases genetic diversity by producing many genetic combinations. Law of Dominance Mendel s Law of Dominance states that recessive alleles will always be masked by dominant alleles. This means a cross between a homozygous dominant and a homozygous recessive will always express the dominant phenotype whilst still having a heterozygous genotype. Proof of this principle was achieved using a mono hybrid cross experiment: In a cross between two organisms of contrasting traits the trait that is expressed is called dominant and the trait that is suppressed is called recessive. Dominance and Co dominance Dominance and co dominance was discovered by Gregor Mendel when he found that if two parents with different variations of a similar trait were cross bred, the offspring would only display one of these ... • 13. Descriptive Essay On The Creperie A chalkboard caught my eye as a I strolled down the streets of Old Town Flagstaff. Scribbled in an array of colors was a quote by Nelson Mandela No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, then they can be taught to love. For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite . It was sat in front of a little alcove of an eatery called The Creperie. Seeing the establishment transported me back to the summer of my freshman year when I went to Paris with my family and enjoyed artisan crepes in a little cafe near the Seine river. My stomach immediately began to grumble just thinking about those crepes, and I decided then that I would try out The Creperie. However, the service, food, and ambiance would need to be superb in order to match the level of the authentic French cuisinethat I ve enjoyed. When I walked through the door, moreso opening in the brick wall, of The Creperie, I was greeted with a warm smile by a middle aged Hispanic woman. She asked me about my day, my studies at college, and how I enjoyed living in Flagstaff. Though this may come across to most as normal niceties, she seemed to be genuinely interested in what I had to say. • 15. Collectivism In Ayn Rand s Anthem Ayn Rand uses the theme of collectivism and why it is evil throughout Anthem. Collectivism refers to the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. The main character in her novel is Equality 7 2521, and she talks about how he despises the society s way of collectivism. I will be talking about the ways in which Ayn Randuses Equality 7 2521 to show why collectivism is an evil thing, and what he tries to do when he wants to change the rule of his society. The collectivist society in which Equality 7 2521 lives within is similar to the Nazi and Communists states of the twentieth century. The leaders of this society do not permit individual thinking, but to be like a fragment in a group whose purpose is to serve its needs. Equality 7 2521 states, We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the great WE, One, indivisible and forever. Comparing Alienation In The Scarlet Letter And Easy A In both the fiction romance novel, The Scarlet Letter, composed by American novelist, Nathaniel Hawthorne and the romantic movie comedy Easy A, administered by American film director, Will Gluck, the topic of alienation can be detected throughout the plot in order to show how the main female characters in each work, have experienced the state of being isolated from a group or community. Both creators and organizers of each piece of work, establish an ambivalent tone towards the main female character. To explain the quote, due to the fact that she wandered into sin, she is singled out for criticism by those and women of the Puritan society leaving her to feel alienated from everyone. She says this to Olive after she has heard about the dirty rumors about Olives so called sins, amongst the high school society. Nina references the letter A, to affirm the fact that Olive is no different than Hester Prynne. Olive then fires back, Maybe you should get a wardrobe, you abominable twat. Another advantage of offering free food to Jaguar Land Rover staff is that they are encouraged to do overtime. This is because their dinner would already be paid for. This can cause employees to do extra work and increase sales. Resulting in the business to gain more profit. However, offering employees free food can be a weakness in some aspects. For example, jaguar can lose money by offering their employees free food. This is because jaguar land rover in castle Bromwich has over 2500 employees which would then result it being very expensive for them all to take advantage of this motivational method. Moreover causing Jaguar Land Rover to lose profit and therefore won t be able to afford the equipment to not only make cars but specialised ones. Another disadvantage of offering free food to Jaguar Land Rover staff is that the company may be open to health risks. This is because the chemicals and fumes, machinery and being round dust could create health hazards within the food content being served. • 18. Entrapment In Rebecca Du Maurier s Rebecca can be seen to be as a Modern Classic Gothic Text in many ways. Gothic texts often focus on the supernatural, picturesque secluded setting and a hint of violence or masochism. Rebecca shows these elements, from the lonely mansion of Manderley, to the flashbacks of the unnamed narrator s life; but mostly the entire story is underscored by the ghost of Rebecca and her haunting presence in the narrator s life. This is what makes the text truly Gothic. Gothic fiction often presents the readers with a secluded setting and a feeling of entrapment and imprisonment. At first people did not fully understand the state of the economy, they could not wrap their heads around the transition from popping champagne bottles to eating bread crumbs for dinner. People were expecting a quick fix to the problem, assuming their lives to go back to normal after a few months, ultimately underestimating the situation America was in. As a result, no one was prepared to properly combat the extreme shortage of food, jobs, and money in the years to come. One of the first resources to go during the depression was food, partially due to the lack of money to afford it and the almost impossible production of it due to the Dust Bowl. During the early stages of the depression people were still holding out for a miracle to revive their economy because of this many individuals tried to live as they did before instead of trying to conserve food for later, ultimately exhausting their pantry. Media and violence are both very wide and broad concepts that have massive impacts in our society, and it is important to distinguish their relationship with each other. The types of media are things such as violent video games, films, newspapers, magazines and television. One particular type of media that is often very problematized is violent video games. Different studies have shown convincing and unconvincing correlational in regards to the media and violence, but to whom do we believe? The media, especially in today s modern society surrounds us all the time. It affects our daily lives and has become part of our everyday routines, which is why it has such a huge impact on us, and violent media is everywhere. It is known that by the time we get to our eighteenth birthday, we will have seen and witnessed about 200,000 violent acts and about 16,000 murders (Media Education Foundation, 2005). There have been ongoing controversial debates as to whether violent media exposure contributes to violent and aggressive behaviours and whether one is caused by the other. Violence includes, but is not limited to things such as murder, assault, homicide, shootings, property offence, rape and assault. The mainstream and popular notion has been that violent video games make people more aggressive and desensitized to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction: Upon arriving to America, Europeans treated Indians like savages. When Europeans discovered America they had a drive to conquer land including the land the Natives lived on.(Layton 28) Coming from a more advanced civilization in the Europeans eyes they thought they were better than the Natives and therefore wanted to change the Natives way and wanting them to conform to their society. (Mooney 37) The Trail of Tears was a journey of 900 miles that had took nine months to complete. After being taken out of villages and homes, the Cherokee were put in camps, where they had to wait for weeks before heading out in groups of 1,000, following different paths than others depending on the time of year and season. They would travel to a land unknown to them and have to survive off the land. • 39. Howl By Ginsberg Analysis Have you ever read a poem or book and did not like it or could not understand it? I have, and the poem is called Howl by Allen Ginsberg. Part one of Howl takes the reader on a rant filled journey through Ginsberg s and his friends, The Beat generation, life experiences. Part two he talks of everything he hates and uses the term Moloch to describe it. Part three he talks to Carl Solomon, a friend of his. His angry tone and over the top use of imagery for government, drugs, and sexuality leaves the readers wondering what the heck is going on and what is he really trying to say? The reader has to break down each line to decipher what is really going on and through all that time an effort; the value of the message is lost. They saw themselves in each other almost immediately (Ginsberg, para 24). He uses the word Rockland to describe the mental institution they met in. I m with you in Rockland where you imitate the shade of my mother. (Howl, line 96). This line is understandable and shows the audience the connection he feels with him. Ginsberg also brings the reader in on a little history of Solomon by sharing some of Solomon experiences with the reader, but just like the rest of the poem his choice of words and imagery is unsavory. • 41. The Environmental Hazards Of The United States A common sight to a visitor on a beach in the U.S. is garbage that has been pitched by another person or washed up on the beach, after it has been carelessly thrown away. All the carelessly disposed of trash eventually accumulates, rather it be in one place, such as a landfill, or in many places just dispersed and spread out, like litter. In 1997, Captain Charles Moore came across a large trash deposit, while sailing in his boat, Alguita, in the pacific. What he encountered that day could only be described as a floating continent of trash, which today has names such as trash vortex , plastic soup , and Eastern Garbage Patch (Friedman 7 10). The mass of trash is still present today and is calculated to be twice the size of the U.S., weighing in at around 100 million tons of trash (Friedman 7). This garbage patch is one of the leading growing environmental hazards of the world today. The trash has been linked to cancer, caused by the toxins released in the water from the plastics, the killing of seabirds, and the killing of more than a 100,000 marine mammals each year (Friedman 9). This is one of the negative effects human trash is having on the planet and how people are now turning to recyclingto help resolve problems similar to this. Today people in the U.S. alone produce 245 million tons of trash a year, which helps contribute to problems like the trash vortex (Lazarus 13). The appearance of two ghosts plays on the governess mind, she comes to the conclusion the children are in danger and being possessed by these two horrors. A woman as fanciful and dreamy as this in such a position is not going to survive. As we continue to read this novella we must notice the governess wild and unnecessary use of elaborate adjectives to describe the simplest of things. Her style of writing in itself is quite romantic and poetic, full of metaphors and oxymorons. However sometimes her choice of words is so prompting we must take a closer look into perhaps a double or triple meaning. When she first sights the ghost of Peter Quint on top of the house she is able to describe his position with amazing precision in note of the fact she was some distance from him and her sighting was quite brief. She comments he stood at an angle, tall and erect... he fixed me with a hard gaze and when yet again she confides in Mrs Grouse she gives a very elaborate description commenting on his tight red curls, pale face, long in shape, small tiny whickers, darker arched eyebrows and the fact that he had no hat . The governess even uses phrases such as the intercourse of our conversation added to the intensity of our meeting in description of everyday things such as normal conversation. The governess certainly has deeper meaning behind most of her words. The last and most important point in regards to the governess repressed sexual desires is her highly inappropriate and unprofessional behaviour with both her pupils, in particular Miles. It is known that the gothic novel s prototype was Horace Walpole s The Castle of Otranto (1764). It foreshadows the modern novels that evoke horror and terror in the minds of people who read them. It subtly suggests the psychological motivations of the characters and the deep abysses of the human mind. The gothic is usually associated by people with a prevailing sense of terrible. There are some stock and inherent properties that are common to all gothic literature. The gothic novels make wholesome use of darkness, mystery and obscurity. They sustain a person s tension and heighten his sense of anticipation. There is always a prevailing aura of gloom and impending confrontation with the nemesis. Wellness is helping a client by achieving their highest level of functioning through mind, body, and spirit. Counselors must help their clients to become well again.
