SOCIO ECONOMIC AND DEMOGRAPHIC FEATURES OF KIDNAPPING IN NIGERIA: AN
ANALYTICAL STUDY
Abstract
This study analyzed and reviewed the Nigerian print media coverage of kidnapping cases between
2005 and 2011. The focus of the study was to determine socio economic and demographic features
of kidnapping in Nigeria. Content analysis was adopted for the study as well as use of frequency
tables for analysis of data. Anomie theory of crime based on Robert K. Merton s analysis of
Durkheim s theory provided our theoretical frame work in this analysis. The study argued that a
plethora of factors have been implicated as the causes of kidnapping in Nigeria. This paper
recommends that some drastic measures be taken to nip in the bud the menace of ... Show more

Kidnapping has of recent assumed alarming dimension in the states in Niger Delta region opening
up opportunities and avenues for dangerous socio political degeneration. This has implication on
the social, economic and political development for not only the Niger Delta region in particular but
also for the Nigerian state in general.
The degree of deprivation suffered by the Niger Delta people and the complexities that characterize
their problems made them adopt the various strategies at different times.
By 1990s resistance groups began to emerge. They had a broad ethnic base an epitomized by the
Movement for the survival of the Ogoni people ( MOSOP) and the Movement for the survival of
Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND). They organized rallies, civil disobedience,
boycott of state programmes, violent protests, vandalisation of oil pipelines and wells, hostage
takings and sabotages. These groups later discovered kidnapping as one of the strategies in
agitating for their rights.
OBJECTIVES
The central objective of this study is to analyze socio economic and demographic features of
kidnapping in Nigeria. Specifically, the study seeks to:
1.Examine the categories of people that carry out kidnapping.
2.Categorize the kind of the people being kidnapped.
3.Analyze the bases for causes of kidnapping in Nigeria.
4.Determine the trend of kidnapping within Nigeria.

Speech About Beauty Pageants
Hey Jeni, you don t stand a chance in this Selection. I heard Anndrea joined and she has been
competing in beauty pageants since she was five years old. As I sat down in my usual spot, Leo
mentioned for me to come over and sit next to him and his group of friends. I ve heard some
rumors going on that you are submitting an application for the Selection. You better think again.
You re never gonna make it. Look at all these girls sitting around us right now; all the popular girls,
they wantit just as bad as you. Let this be a warning to you, if you don t get into the Selection and
have to come back to school, you will become a nobody, a ghost, someone no one will know. Just

into a sudden burst of laughter.
Hey Stargirl, Leo s right, you don t stand a chance compared to me. Prince Maxon would hate
your ugly jeans right now and your disgusting shirt, Anndrea s booming voice was even heard
with all the chaotic laughter. I could win, I could show the whole entire school who I am, Susan
Caraway, no need for Stargirl. I ll show that Anndrea who she s really dealing with. Get up and
get dressed. We have a big day coming up. We need to go to the town square to submit your

Persuasive Essay About Ufos
The ongoing wonder on whether or not extraterrestrial life exists is not going to go away after this
news. UFO researchers unveiled yet another NASA image of the sun that they claim is a
spacecraft. However, NASA, who usually never comments on this kind if stuff, talked a little bit
about the supposedly new discovery.
YET ANOTHER SUPPOSED UFO SPOTTED
NASA has the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory satellite that is constantly monitoring the sun.
This satellite is orbiting the sun 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with absolutely no interruptions.
The researchers showed the newest image that the satellite took, and there certainly looked like
there was something around it. However, considering how hot the sun is, that seems very unlikely.
However, that is not stopping the researchers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one story there was a reported UFO that was the size of the moon. As a matter of fact, there was
two such instances that were reported. Another researcher claimed that they saw around one
thousand rockets near the sun. This is an ongoing claim that will seemingly never stop.
WHAT NASA IS SAYING ABOUT THIS
NASA usually does not like talking about UFO sightings, but they did talk a little about this latest
claim. However, NASA is not quite sold on the fact that these are indeed UFO sightings. The
members of NASA state that images like this are most likely hot spots. Hot spots make it look like
something is there, but in actuality it is just emanating extreme brightness. NASA also stated how
in the past they have been accused of covering up UFO sightings, and that people won t accept their
explanations.
WILL NASA LOOK INTO THIS MORE?
The more times that this comes up, the more interested NASA is going to become. It seems fairly
clear that NASA does not believe these are alien spacecrafts. However, eventually they might have
to take a further look just to make sure they are

If you look on the cover of Abbey Road you can see Paul is the only one out of step and barefoot, to
drawing slightly more attention to Paul. Foreign religions are often buried barefoot. The Beatles,
shown walking in a specific order; John dressed in white, as a religious person would be. Ringo
dressed as an undertaker. Paul, shabby suited and barefoot, resembles a corpse; and finally
George, in old jeans, is a gravedigger. The cover of Abbey Road is a funeral procession. Paul
also seems to be holding a cigarette the nail to the coffin in his right hand, and any Beatle fan
knows Paul is left handed. These all are all subtle hints as to whom we are seeing on the cover
perhaps is not Paul McCartney but in fact a replacement who filled his spot.
The album, Let It Be , the twelfth and final album from the Beatles includes three songs which are
consecutive. The Beatles suggest several things from the titles. Golden slumbers, a long sleep or
death; Carry That Weight, a corpse filled coffin; and The End, ...no explanation needed,

The Importance of Memory in Margaret Atwood s Handmaid s...
For this essay I aim to show the importance of memory and of remembering the past in The
Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid s Tale is a speculative fiction first
published in 1985 but set in the early 2000s. The novel was in response to changes in US politics
with the emergence of Christian fundamentalism, the New Right. Atwood believed that society
was going wrong and wrote this savage satire, similar to Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal ,
depicting a dystopia which she uses as a mirror to hold up to society. I will be focusing on the
main character and narrator, Offred, a handmaid who mingles memories of her life before the
revolution with her rebellious activities under the new regime (book group corner), as she... Show

She forgets where she is and remembers her past life as a waitress. The line between fantasizing
about the past and the harsh reality of her new life breaks down. She smiles blankly at the other
Handmaids and asks them how they are doing. She had a lapse similar to this at the Red Centre
where Handmaids were taught how to act in this new regime. Janine s mental state was frail to
begin with and her automatic reaction to scenes of brutality or stress set off her memories of her
previous life. Janine s breakdown shows how memories affect us. Janine cannot handle the
deprivation she is now faced with compared to the freedoms of her past.
There is a strong link between memories and hope. Raffaela Baccolini discusses this link in her
article The Persistence of Hope in Dystopian Science Fiction. She says that Utopia is maintained in
dystopia, traditionally a bleak, depressing genre with no space for hope in the story, only outside
the story. Offred does not have much, if anything, to stimulate herself with mentally. She is in a
bare room with shatterproof glass that has been made safe to prevent her from committing suicide.
Her only escape is her mind which harbours her memories. She has no hope in her story, which is
her life, but she does have hope

Amy Tan Fish Cheeks Essay
Fish Cheeks
The essay Fish Cheeks by Amy Tan takes place in her teenage years and it s about something that
happened at that time. On the day of Christmas Eve, Amy s mother invites the minister and his
family over, who are Americans, so that both families can celebrate together. For dinner that
Christmas, Amy s mom had prepared all of her favorite foods (like fish cheeks). However, even
though her favorite foods were served, she constantly felt mortified through out the night. From the
love of her life, also known as the minister s son, Robert, who was at the dinner table, all the way
to the cultural differences in manners caused Tan to depreciate her familytraditions on that
Christmas dinner because she was unaware of what the American family was thinking of her
Chinese traditional dinner. However as we age and become older we also gain a lot of wisdom and
understanding of the reality we live in through hard times and challenging situations, which we
witness happening with Tan in her essay.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the essay, I noticed that Tan reveals some of her insecurities by exposing
thought shots. She would constantly feel embarrassed from the moment the American family
arrives all through the very end of Christmas Eve dinner. Considering the smelly and gross
looking Chinese traditional dishes also the loud and weird acting relatives, I witnessed a good
imagery from the way Amy describes them. The main concerns to Tan are how and what the
American family thinks of them. In my life I also struggled with internally wanting approval from
the others however I got over it by realizing that the external reality cannot control how I feel. Later
on in the story her mother gets to explain how to deal with her emotions and shows her compassion
with understanding of the horrible things she felt that dinner

Comparing System One And System Two
According to Daniel Kahneman, a legatee of a Nobel Prize in Economic Science, two systems
drive the way we think. Kahneman represents the two systems as System 1 and System 2. System
One operates quickly and automatically, usually without providing any thoughts. On the other hand,
System 2 requires more thinking and concentration. Most of the thinking that goes through System
2 originates in System One, but System 2 takes over when it requires effort. For example, when
given a simple mathematical equation such as what is two plus two? the majority of people can
answer this by using only System 1 because it does not require a lot of effort. As the equation
becomes more complicated, such as multiplication or division of three digits, the brain requires
more effort and must go through System 2. Why are these called System 1 and System 2 instead of
automatic system and effortful system ? Kahneman answers, The reason is simple: Automatic
system takes longer to say than System 1 and therefore takes more space in your working memory.
This is important because anything that goes through your working memory reduces your ability to

Kahneman s theory of two systems develops the understanding of how the human brain
functions in our daily lives. Priming exposure to a stimulus influences your responses to a later
stimulus is a major factor in how the way people think differs. Events that have occurred in the
past can change the way people perceive a word or a situation given. A Very familiar example of
priming, and is also mentioned in this book is the fill in the blank experiment. The scientist
provides the word, S _ _ P to the subjects. If the subject is naturally or influenced to image a
restaurant, they would say, Soup. However, if the subject is thinking of cleaning or bath, then they

Modernist Movement in Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s...
Ford Madox Ford and Virginia Woolf were major contributors to the modernist movement. They,
as well as others (such as James Joyce), were trying something new, by breaking down the
boundaries of traditional writing. Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway are two
particular examples of the genre. These novels were not well received in their own time. As time
went on, however, the attitudes of the literary world changed and were able to finally see these
works for what they really are exemplary pieces of fiction, certainly worth merit.
The Good Soldier was first published in 1915. Rebecca West penned a promising review for the
year, ending with Indeed, this is a much, much better book than any of us deserve (40). ... Show

He questions Dowell s mental balance because he degrades Florence, his wife, for her
indiscretions. Edward Ashburnham is guilty of the very same things, yet he is still regarded as
good people. He also wonders at the meaning of the narrator s nearly phobic concern with
Catholicism, or of the way in which his slurs at Leonora are justified by her attachment to that
persuasion (46).
If the implication is that John Dowell is crazy, Schorer is failing to see other psychological
reasons why a man such as Dowell would think this way. It is evident that our narrator has not
fully processed all of the events before he begins to tell of them. In addition, Dowell obviously
wants to continue thinking highly of Ashburnham the good soldier, and this completes John s
psychological quandary. At the very least, Schorer recognizes the merit of The Good Soldier, and
his essay appears to understand the deliberate complexities of the novel.
Charles Hoffman likens The Good Soldier to an allegory, the breakup of civilization itself,
heading toward disaster (53). Even while the quartet is falling apart, however, they still put on the
proverbial brave face and, to all outward appearances, are just fine. This can be applied to the
world at large. Ford also exposes the evil kernel within the hearts of mankind. To others, these are
good people, but they hold

Arden Of Faversham Critical Analysis
The play Arden of Faversham follows the Renaissance genre of tragedy, yet it focuses on the
domestic sphere in the unconventional setting of Arden and Alice s home, rather than the courtly
setting of most tragedies written in the Elizabethan period, in the realm of nobility. While most
tragedies following this genre concern themselves with the authority of those in the noble court,
Arden of Favershams primary concern is with the authority within their own home.
As theatre began shifting away from the political sphere in the Elizabethan period and focused
more on comedic and tragic genres, playwrights were able to feature more intimate and domestic
issues in their spectacles, but still regarded courtly settings as the appropriate setting ... Show more

This is demonstrated after Gaveston reads the letter brought to him from the king, as he states,
What greater blisse can hap to Gaveston,/ Then live and be the favorit of a king? (Edward I.I 4
5). This letter is calling Gaveston back to Edward s court, Gaveston s exile and return is a
reoccurring theme throughout the play. Marlowe constructs this play through the characterization
of his characters, as the king searches for his identity in his relationship with Gaveston. The play
itself opens with a soliloquy by Gaveston, My father is deceast ; come, Gaveston,/ And share the
kingdom with thy deerest friend (Edward I.I. 1 2), yet these first two lines are actually the words
of the king, interplaying the relationship with the king, and the role of the courtly world. However,
while Arden and its characters stray from the courtly world created in Edward II and The Spanish
Tragedy, the author of Arden does not keep this consistent throughout. For example, although Arden
is unconventionally not of noble birth, he does marry Alice who was descended of a noble house
(Arden I.202). Although the play is not directly representing a concern with state issues and
territories,
The playwright of Arden uses irony, as seen in the passage, My saving husband hoards up bags of
gold/ To make our children rich (Arden I. 220 1). The irony represented in this statement is
magnified as it was Alice who claims that her husband saving money for their next generation, yet

Physical Effects Of Child Abuse
In 2011, the Children s Bureau in Maryland reports that there are 676, 569 children were victims
of child abuse or neglect in that year. Although physical abuse is very apparent and extremely
visible, physical abuse can fade away but child neglect can have consequences on children that can
last a lifetime. It might take families and friends a while to take notice to a child that is sufferingof

The effects of child abuse affect each child differently. While the effects of abuse can be severe

Ideology Of American Identity
The meaning of what it means to be an American has been fundamentally consistent over the course
of our history. America is a collection of individual states and individual people united under the
great idea of liberty. The forefathers of this country first defined these ideas of American identity in
the Constitution in 1787. Since then, the scope of American identity has expanded from white men
to men of all color, and later women. If the American War for Independence was the event that
defined American identity, the American Civil War
was the first instance in which this identity was
challenged, and ultimately redefined. The newborn United Statesof America was in a state of
disarray following the American War for Independence. The people had just fought a war against
tyranny and corruption, which naturally raised concern over the government s role in the
sovereignty of independent states. This fear of corrupt government led to the failure of the Articles
of Confederation. Soon after the war ended, American politics revolved around two important
ideologies. Republicanism and Federalism. Although the Federalists as a political entity met their
demise at the end of John Adams presidency, their ideology influenced American politics well into
the Jacksonian Era. Republican ideals, such as actual representation and state sovereignty were
prevalent along with Federalist ideas such as general welfare and common defense. The American
tradition of political compromise was also

Wells purposely uses a first person frame narration to leave a more profound impression upon the
reader. The embedded narrator serves to connect with the readers in a way that the Time Traveller

Analysis Of The Other Wes Moore
Effort and Success s obvious correlation. Free will and determinism are like a game of cards. The
hand that is dealt you is determinism. The way you play your hand is free will. Norman
Cousins. This quote was the basic underlying moral of the book The Other Wes Moore and the
short story The Third and Final Continent. The poem if acts as a guideline for a person s
willpower. The poem If shows the reader the steps to follow to come out of a situation of doubt
with sheer will power. The Other Wes Moore conveys this same theme when the main character
breaks out of poverty in a first desperate, but then determined childhood. The Third and Final
Continent follows the story of a talented young student and the hardships faced in his unfamiliar
new life in The United States of America. These texts, If, The Other Wes Moore, and The Third
and Final Continent represent how effort becomes the driving force of success even in
improbable circumstances through use of setting, characterization, and conflict. Setting can
affect a characters outcome drastically which directly affects the theme. The Other Wes Moore
utilizes the environment to show the dis advantages that Wes faced in order to get out of the
poverty ridden area he was in. Cherry Hill wasn t built as a sustainable community for its
families... over half of the eight thousand residents lived below the poverty line (Moore, p.29).
This quote shows how the author intended for the reader to use this setting later in the book to
compare Wes s life to what it was back then. In the poem if, the author presented the problem of
how doubt holds you back. If you can trust yourself when all omen doubt you, (Kipling). This
shows how the author brings the reader s attention to this problem, therefore, making them
ponder over it. This provides awareness to the problem and shows the reader how breaking out
of this mindset could be beneficial to your success. Both of these texts display a use of setting to
cause the reader to, in if s case, consider the problem, thus making it more aware, and The Other
Wes Moore uses it to piece together certain parts of Wes s Life. Characterization is a key
component of building a theme in a story. In The Other Wes Moore, Wes s life

Driving School
What I Learned at Driving School Driving school was quite the experience for me. To say the
least, it was extremely interesting. I learned so much from this course, which I did not even
know I could learn so much about driving in four hours! Throughout my paper, I will talk about
the main topics that I learned and what I expect to make me a better driver. The Alabama
Graduated Drivers License Law was one of the main things I learned during this course. This
law is very important today and became affected on October 1, 2002. A Fifteen year old with a
valid learner s license are to be accomplished by a parent or legal guardian of the age of twenty one
with a valid divers license. This law states that six teen year olds must not operate... Show more

If you are speeding in a construction zone, your fine will be doubled! If it says construction
workers present and you do not see them, it is NOT okay to speed. The workers are probably
there, but not in sight. You will still get a ticket if speeding in this zone!! While operating a
vehicle, you are to have several required documents at a traffic stop. When stopped for a traffic
violation, you are to always have the following items: driver license, proof of insurance, and
vehicle registration. As of May 8, 2009, all motor vehicles operated on Alabama highways must
have liability insurance. If you do not have insurance and involved in an accident, you will have
to pay. Minimum coverage for a single injured individual is $25,000 and $50,000 for two or more
injuries. A first conviction for not having mandatory liability insurance holds a fine up to $500 plus
court cost. Drinking and driving is a wide spread practice. Drinking while driving is a main factor
in traffic crashes. There are several things we should know about alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant,
not a stimulant. It interferes with all judgment, lowers alertness, and slows the normal reflexes.
Some people think they feel stimulated after the consumption of alcohol. They feel this way
because their inhibitions are lowered, causing loss of caution and self control. It simply doesn t
matter if you are drinking wine, whiskey, or beer it s the amount of alcohol you let enter your body.

Kodak And Its First Snapshot Camera
In 1880, George Eastman founded the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York. By
1888, the company developed its first snapshot camera and became an American household name.
Over time, Kodak believed that most of their money came from film, which caused the company to
lose focus on their equipment. However, by the 1960s, Kodak started to introduce new products
that focused on medical imaging and graphic arts. One of the key players in the industry is
Polaroid. In 1969, Polaroid s patents on instant photography expired, giving Kodak a huge
opportunity. Eventually Kodak came up with its first instant cameraand sold about 16.5 million of
them. However, a patent infringement suit by Polaroid forced Kodak to abandon their instant camera

In 1998, Kodak lost market share when Fuji cut their prices. As a result of this price war, by the
end of 1999 the company has to cut $1.2 billion in costs and 19,900 jobs, or about one fifth of its
payroll, the most severe cutback ever at Kodak (Gavetti, Henderson and Giorgi 10). By 2001,
Kodak was losing $60 on every digital camera it sold (Gavetti, Henderson and Giorgi 10). During
its time, Kodak has faced multiple legal issues. One issue they faced was an antitrust suit with
independent service organizations. Kodak controls most of the service market and the market for its
replacement parts. The independent service organizations argued that Kodak was trying to force
them out of business by restricting their access to replacement parts and by trying to insure that
customers for its business machines either service the machines themselves or buy service directly
from Kodak (Greenhouse). Kodak was being accused of violating the Sherman Antitrust Act. The
service companies believed that Kodak was unlawfully tying the sale of service for Kodak
machines to the sale of parts, and unlawfully trying to monopolize the market for service
(Greenhouse). According to the textbook, Section 1 of the Sherman Act states that it is illegal to
restraint trade in contract, trust or conspiracy and Section 2 condemns any person who
monopolizes or attempts to monopolize. (Clarkson, Miller and Cross 914). One way Section 1 can
be violated is by

Hello, I m Brian McGinty trainer/owner of PowerPlus. I want to inform you of our new and
innovative training system. Our system is catered around biomechanics. In the last three years,
we ve had staggering results in our sports training. Within a couple of months, we dropped 100

We are against this concept. Science has proven that when you bulk a muscle, it loses it s elastic
qualities. As a result, the center of the muscle is shortened, balled up, and pulled away from
connective tissue which connects/holds muscles to the joints. This is called muscle hypertrophy.
Science has shown that it can have an adverse effect on athletic movement. This puts more stress
on the ligaments and tendons and causes muscular imbalances. Compare the way a human body is
made to a trampoline. A trampoline has a webbing or net in the middle which we jump on. All of
the focus and attention is usually on the net, similar to how most of the attention is usually put on
the size of the athlete s muscles. But what is actually firing or creating most of the power? Is it the
webbing or the springs? Think about it, the springs that are connected to the skeleton of the
trampoline are actually absorbing most of the shock applied to the trampoline. The springs reverse
that energy and catapults a person high into the air. So we have a net, that is connected to a spring,
that is connected to the skeleton of the trampoline. The human body is made the same way. We have
muscles that are attached to ligaments and tendons that are connected to skeletal bone. Our
philosophy of power is this: plyometrics has proven to be the best way to improve muscle elasticity
and connective tissue strength. There is also a timing that comes along with plyometric

Dantes Inferno
Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli demonstrated that the different critical exegetical positions, regarding
the Divine Comedy (whose intent appears on one side as a disciplinary and moral renewal of the
Church, and on the other side as a hidden, heretical reversion) were not free from contemporary
pressures. In fact, their own theories are able to offer a valid evidence of the nineteenth century s
political and religious debates, and for this reason, I am going to analyse the interpretation of
Dante s work by Ugo Foscolo, through both, the Discorso sul testo della Divina Commedia , and
two articles that Foscolo published in the Edinburgh Review in 1818; in addition, I am going to
analyse the interpretation by Rossetti through his work titled... Show more content on

Obviously, being impossible to summarize the vast, esoteric, exegesis of Dante proposed by
them, I am feeling obliged to try to highlight some common key of readings as, for example: 1)
the relation between the symbol of the Cross (representing the Roman Church) and the Eagle
(representing the Empire), whose doctrines are linked to mankind s need for salvation. These
two institutions (Church and Empire), according Dante s thought, had to be both settled at the
centre of Rome, as at the time of the Holy Roman Empire. In addition, according to Foscolo,
Rossetti and Valli, Dante attacked the Church exclusively because he wanted the renewal of the
spiritual dimension, where the Church had to abandon its material interests, leaving exclusively
to the Empire the task to unify Peoples under a unique government. In this way, both Church and
Empire would have been able to help humankind for their spiritual and material ends. 2) Another
common key of reading, for Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, is linked with the symbol of Beatrice,
which is seen by the three interpreters, not as a real woman, but as a symbol of the wisdom,
present in many ancient traditions. 3) I will try to highlight the fact that the esoteric reading of
Dante, is considered by both, Foscolo and Rossetti in key heterodox, neo Pythagorean and
Ghibelline, while it is considered by Valli in super catholic key. In brief, in my thesis, I will try to
find all common passages of Dante s oeuvre, used by Foscolo,Rossetti and Valli, analysing and

Policy Of Appeasement
There were many causes that led to the outbreak of the war. Many blame the Treaty of Versailles,
others the League of Nations, and others blame the Policy of Appeasement. The Treaty of
Versailles put restrictions on Germany, blamed the cause of WW1 on it, and also made Germany
pay for war reparations. The League of Nationswas made to keep world peace by preventing wars
and such by solving any disputes in a peaceful manner. The Policy of Appeasement was a policy
between Hitler and Chamberlain which gave a piece of Czechoslovakia to Germanyin order to keep
Hitler from starting a war with them and to keep peace. Although all of these reasons play a
major role in the cause of World War 2 I believe the main cause was the League of Nations.

character Maya Angelou, informs her reader of her family status.
2.The author informs us that she is currently living with her Father s mother due to the separation
of their parents.
3.Maya Angelou includes this passage to show that there is no perfect marriage and provide
knowledge as to how hard it was live back then. This passage is significant because it shows the
audience that due to impact of slavery, many families were faced with numerous problems.
4.This passage somewhat resembles what I have gone through in my life. My parents also put an

War movies have always been an American classic. With cinematography, actors, and exposure a
film can either be a hit, or fall short. The film American Sniper, is based off of the novel by the
same name, reflecting the life of Navy Seal Chris Kyle. Following the release of the novel, Clint
Eastwood took the director s chair and adapted the novel, to the big screen. Although American
Sniper became a worldwide hit, another movie, The Hurt Locker, came years before it. Directed by
award winning Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker is based on fictionalized characters reflecting
the experiences of an Explosive Ordinance Disposal team. While both films are remarkable in

Medical Records and Privacy of the Famous

Privacy seems to be something that many people desire, but is becoming less and less available.
With all the new technology, it is easier than ever to invade someone s privacy. With cameras
everywhere, from ATM s to people s cell phones, it is difficult for anyone to do anything that can
be kept to one s self. While privacy is a right that the average person doesn t normally struggle
with, it is a problem that celebrities encounter everyday. Paparazzi are constantly following these
famous people around as they do their everyday things like shopping, playing with their children,
partying, or simply hanging in their homes. It is basically the price to pay to be famous. While these

It is obvious that celebrity news is an outlet that sells, as seen by the numerous tabloids and
entertainment shows. The public has an interest in what is going on in the lives of these rich and
glamorous people. This brings on a form of mediated voyeurism, which can be defined as, the
consumption of revealing images and information about others real and unguarded lives, not always
for the purpose of entertainment but frequently at the expense of privacy and discourse, through the
means of the mass media (Calvert, 2000). Basically saying that the public has a need to see these
famous people and learn about their lives, even at the risk of invading their privacy. The tabloids
simply exploit the public s desire to learn these things, regardless of the ethical issues of invading a
human being s privacy. They know people will buy it and that they will make money.
I think that to be an ethical journalist it is important to empathize with the person whose life is
about to be splashed on the papers. Of course there is the matter of getting the story and pleasing
the readers and the editor, but it should take into account the public s real right to know. A story
about the health of someone like the President of the United States might be something worth
printing, because knowing how he is medically is of public interest because this is a man that is
running the country.

Bottle Sliping Persuasive Essay
Do you feel let down when you fail a bottle flip multiple times in a row? Do you seem to
unintentionally shift your focus when someone is bottle flipping around you? These issues are
common to the average teenager and can cause some problems to those attempting the bottle
flipping challenge and those around them. Overall, bottle flipping is a negative aspect that causes
frustration, depression, and a shift in focus.
Though most teenagers get excited when they hear the thud of a water bottle land, for adults, the
constant noise can add to their already inexplicably enormous stress. Picture this, if you constantly

hours on bottle flipping, it is of no use because that was many hours of wasted, precious time that
you could have devoted to doing something productive for yourself and others. The most bottle flips

Limited Liability Companies
After reading the case of Alex, Bill, Carl, and Devon s business, me being their accountant, a
type of business I would suggest them will be a Liability Limited corporation. Based on their
needs LLC would be a perfect form of business for them. As their company was sole proprietorship
ran by their dad, LLC offers some advantages of a corporation, as well as some advantages of a sole
proprietorship. A limited liability company, commonly called an LLC, is a business structure that
combines the pass through taxation of a partnership or sole proprietorship with the limited
liability of a corporation. (Nolo, 2014, n.a.) The characteristics of LLCs and a partnership
company are somewhat similar as they both provide flexibility to the management and also the
benefit of pass through taxation. The Owners of an LLC are called members. As most states do
not have any limit on ownership, members can be individuals, companies, other LLCs and foreign
individuals. There is no limit on the number of members in LLC. Some LLC also have only one
owner, which is called a single member, and it is allowed in most of the states. Most states do not
restrict ownership, and so members may include individuals, corporations, other LLCs and foreign
entities (irs.gov, 2014)
There are some important factors that Alex, Bill, Carl, Devon and Xavier should know before they
move forward to convert their business into Limited Liability Company.

The Letter From Jourdan Anderson
Reading the first letter from Jourdan Anderson, one of the meanings of freedom one can take
away from the tone of Anderson s diction is the freedom to throw shade. Seriously, Anderson is
now a free man and thus free to write smugly to his former master, and eloquently so. His letter
essentially tells the Colonel there is no chance in hell that he and his family will return to live
with the man who previously enslaved them. Anderson also expressed he knew he was already a
free man in response to the Colonel promising his freedom upon his return. Anderson states,
there is nothing to be gained on that score, as I got my free papers in 1864 from the Provost
Marshal General of the Department of Nashville. That line asserts to the Colonel that going
returning to Big Spring would not be advantageous because he can already live freely with his
family. He does not need, nor want to return to the Colonel s home. I think Anderson responds in
this way because he is entertaining the fact that the Colonel had the audacity to ask his former
slave family to return because he couldn t run things without them. Anderson brings up wages,
giving the Colonel a proper dragging when he breaks down the math for the thirty two and
twenty years worth of work for which he and his wife were previously unpaid. He splendidly

Digital Divide And The Digital Gap
As I was researching and looking around for ideas to write this research paper about, one subject
that piqued my interest was the digital divide. I had seen a digital divide in my previous job of
working for the local public library in my hometown. The digital divide is more or less the
difference in the rates that people utilize computers, the internetand other forms of information and
communication technology, otherwise referred to as ICT (Wong, 2009). The digital divide in
essence describes the social inequity in accessing ICT between individuals in society (Ritzhaupt,
2013). Our librarywas pretty much the only public access point in the county where individuals
could come and utilize free computers and internet access. I saw many people who had no other
access to technology come in and use the library for educational purposes, job searches and
applications, and conduct general business. As the teen specialist, I was over the Teen Advisory
Board, and I came to understand the economic circumstances some of the teens who were coming
to the library were dealing with on a daily basis. Often times, without the library, they would have
no means to complete their school work. I know that we had one teen who came in to the use the
computers because his parents had to pawn his computerto pay the rent one month. Where the
trouble comes in though, is that several years ago the library was in danger of closing. Most
people don t realize that while public libraries do

Death Lingers In Her Eyes James Joyce s Eveline establishes a diverse, variety of notions, one of
which persists that music plays a significant role pertaining to Eveline s happiness, he also depicts
her struggle to feel alive inside, and her internal battle between duty and love.
Music has been a singular joy in Eveline s life. When Eveline s dear mother lie on her deathbed
she seemed to only become worse after the organ player had been ordered to go away and given

Every day at home, she had hard work to keep the house together and to see that the two young
children who had been left to her charge went to school regularly and got their meals regularly.
(Joyce) This task of raising the children comes riddled with responsibility and subsists as
something she knows would not be tended to rightly if she were to leave them alone with her
father. Not to mention, her father was becoming old lately. (Joyce) Eveline remains accustomed
to this mediocre life that it suggests she does not desire to leave by virtue of her fear to start
over in Buenos Ayres. As a result, she rationalizes her drunken father s behavior by remembering
past attributes: sometimes he could be very nice. (Joyce) She often reflects on her promise to her
mother, her promise to keep the home together as long as she could. (Joyce) She would feel
guilty to leave and live for herself and select herself for once in her life! Eveline shows no mercy
towards her own person, she could convince herself to stay without any outside input, just by reason
of her self induced obligation to be the glue holding her family together while the pressure tears at
her sanity. She even imagines her mother saying, Derevaun Seraun! Derevaun Seraun! meaning in
Irish Gaelic, at the dissolution of pleasure, there remains pain.

Monty Python And The Holy Grail
The film Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a parody of Arthurian stories. It is a film that is not
very elaborate on special effects, costumes and such as it even includes invisible horses with
coconuts to mimic the sound of the galloping horses. All which indicate the low budget set on the
production of the film. Although, the quality of the film does not suffer with it s low budget since
this adds uniqueness and more comical pieces to the film. The concepts triggered in the film come
from elements of the Arthurian legends. The elements are concepts related to the education, health
of the time, code of chivalry, divine rights, Christianity and social division.
The film opens with a scene where King Arthur is discussing with his guard the use of coconuts
for the sound of the horses. This leads to an argument of how the coconuts arrived to England
since they come from a tropical zone. The guard and King Arthur decide to make up reasons and
come to an elaborate yet very confusing answer that in reality does not clear the dilemma. This
scene can be related to the education of the medieval times, which was very low and explanations
came from sumptuous fabrications. In addition, many of the Arthurian legends have details that are
somewhat unfit or unrealistic and portray that believe of what is not possible. One example of this
is the battle with the Green Knight whom was decapitated and still continued to live. This can also
be connected to the unrealistic scene in the film

Descriptive Power Of Nature
Deep in the mountains in the southwest corner of North Carolina is a river unlike any other.
Halfway through my perilous rafting journey, there was a moment when time stood still. I
witnessed a natural phenomenon which displayed the beauty of nature at its finest. During that
moment, I realized the insignificance of humanity, and why we should respect the overwhelming
power of nature. The Nantahala is a whitewater river nestled in a valley with steep mountains
flanking it on all sides. The forest it was situated in is the only temperate rainforest east of the
Mississippi River. The rafting Industry has adopted this river as its premier destination. I was a
14 year old Boy Scout on a three day camping trip in the Nantahala Gorge. The weather was
cloudy with periodic rain showers throughout the day and night. The temperature was at the mid
80 s but never got above the 90 s. I was in a bright yellow raft shared amongst five of my
companions and a rafting Guide who went by the name Bones. Bones was a Caucasian man
with dreads in his hair, tattoos of paddles shaped as a pirates cross on both of his arms, and was
massively strong. We floated down the river like leaves down a stream; constantly fighting to stay
upright and not be cast overboard by the restless aggression of the rapids. We were part of the way
through a two hour journey down the Nantahala river. It had rained continuously throughout the trip,
which meant we were soaked to the bone and fighting hypothermia.

Zeffirelli Versus Luhrmann s Film
Zeffirelli s film depiction of the balcony scene is superior to Luhrmann s film because it is truer
to Shakespeare s play and has a better interpretation of the play to film. The films are similar in
that it s night and Juliet looks out her balcony as Romeo leaves her house. Although the Luhrmann
film depiction during the balcony scene was in a lavish house which would have never been seen
during the time frame of when the play was written. There may have been lavish houses during the
time the play was written, but they don t come close to the setting in the Zeffirelli film. This plays
a key role in the film seeing that the accuracy of the events of the scene help to give the viewers an
enhanced feel to the original atmosphere. Another significant

Immigration Reforms
Finding immigration services in the Dallas area has gotten more and more difficult in recent years
because the immigration process has grown incredibly complicated. In the last few years numerous
new regulations have been put into effect, altering how immigration will go forward. At the same
time, those new regulations have been rendered more problematic by recent court decisions. All of
these changes mean that it is incredibly challenging for an individual to sort through the aspects of
immigrationand find the right way to press forward on their own.
The first step towards making sense of all of these new immigration reforms lies in understanding
whether or not they might apply to you. Again, you need to remember that right now many of the

Executive Director Of The Harvard Business School...
According to Christina L. Darwall, executive director of the Harvard Business School California
Research Center, Built to flip is an essential element of competing in the new economy,
successful businesses are necessarily to be short in time. (Palowski, 2000) In the 21st century,
there is a rising impatience within the economy. Investors are no longer interested in long term
and sustaining companies, but most of the businesses are aiming to do quickly and get acquired
within a short period, which are the Build to flip companies. (Collin, 2000; p. 1) Under the
culture of entitlement, managers now see themselves are entitled to make money, and in a case
that The faster I go, the faster I feel I need to go . (Thrift, 2000; p. 26) As well as the rapid growth
of consumer demand, leads to the massive expansion in customer service entitlements. (2014,
Lecture 4; p. 8) This is an unquestionable sign of a boom in decay. (Thrift, 2000; p. 26) In addition,
impermanence is a feature in different phenomenon, and everything will come to the stage of
deterioration. (Zsolnai, 2014; p. 63) If it was permanent in everything, we do not have to make
choices, judgments, responsibilities and entitlements. (2014, Lecture 9; p. 1) Yet, the successes of
mass production and consumption in the new economy seem cause us entirely forgot to notify
finitude and limits of the whole world. This problem would be a threat in our future and the next
generation.

The Cat At The Wall Character Analysis
The New And Improved Cat
There is the Cat In The Hat, there is Garfield and there is Chester. Now there is a
new cat in town. She is the purrrrr fect cat! No one calls me anything anymore. I died
when I was thirteen and came back as a cat. A stray cat in a strange place, very far from
home. (9 Deborah Ellis). In this novel The Cat At The Wall written by Deborah Ellis
a young eighth grader named Clare has died, and has came back to life. But guess what?
Not as a human...as a CAT! Clare s personality has matured dramatically from being a
rude young girl, to a curious, mature girl by becoming more aware and seeing the world
in a different way from this experience.
At the beginning of this novel, Clare demonstrates a very rude ... Show more content on

I could smell the boy. He was hiding in the middle of the cardboard city. He was
sweaty and scared and hadn t washed in a while (37). In this part Clare demonstrates
curiosity because if it was not for her sniffing she would not have discovered a new main
character in the book. Throughout this adventure Clare is already starting to mature and
she is starting to think and see things in a positive way.
In this book Clare has matured as a girl and technically a cat as well. One day at
her school she is waiting in the teacher s parking lot when she is about to throw a
rock at her teacher s car. Her teacher notices her just in time and tells her to put the rock
down. For the first time Clare does what she is told to do and her teacher told her she
was proud. Strangely enough Clare was proud of herself too! At the very end of the book
Clare regrettes all the bad mistakes she has done and if she could she would have re done
the whole eighth grade again and apologized to her sister Polly and her teacher. This is
what she states I can t do anything with it. I can t repeat the eighth grade and do it the
way I should have done it the first time. I can t go back and tell Polly I m sorry for

  • 6. The Importance of Memory in Margaret Atwood s Handmaid s... For this essay I aim to show the importance of memory and of remembering the past in The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid s Tale is a speculative fiction first published in 1985 but set in the early 2000s. The novel was in response to changes in US politics with the emergence of Christian fundamentalism, the New Right. Atwood believed that society was going wrong and wrote this savage satire, similar to Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal , depicting a dystopia which she uses as a mirror to hold up to society. I will be focusing on the main character and narrator, Offred, a handmaid who mingles memories of her life before the revolution with her rebellious activities under the new regime (book group corner), as she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She forgets where she is and remembers her past life as a waitress. The line between fantasizing about the past and the harsh reality of her new life breaks down. She smiles blankly at the other Handmaids and asks them how they are doing. She had a lapse similar to this at the Red Centre where Handmaids were taught how to act in this new regime. Janine s mental state was frail to begin with and her automatic reaction to scenes of brutality or stress set off her memories of her previous life. Janine s breakdown shows how memories affect us. Janine cannot handle the deprivation she is now faced with compared to the freedoms of her past. There is a strong link between memories and hope. Raffaela Baccolini discusses this link in her article The Persistence of Hope in Dystopian Science Fiction. She says that Utopia is maintained in dystopia, traditionally a bleak, depressing genre with no space for hope in the story, only outside the story. Offred does not have much, if anything, to stimulate herself with mentally. She is in a bare room with shatterproof glass that has been made safe to prevent her from committing suicide. Her only escape is her mind which harbours her memories. She has no hope in her story, which is her life, but she does have hope ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the day of Christmas Eve, Amy s mother invites the minister and his family over, who are Americans, so that both families can celebrate together. For dinner that Christmas, Amy s mom had prepared all of her favorite foods (like fish cheeks). However, even though her favorite foods were served, she constantly felt mortified through out the night. From the love of her life, also known as the minister s son, Robert, who was at the dinner table, all the way to the cultural differences in manners caused Tan to depreciate her familytraditions on that Christmas dinner because she was unaware of what the American family was thinking of her Chinese traditional dinner. • 11. Comparing System One And System Two According to Daniel Kahneman, a legatee of a Nobel Prize in Economic Science, two systems drive the way we think. Kahneman represents the two systems as System 1 and System 2. System One operates quickly and automatically, usually without providing any thoughts. On the other hand, System 2 requires more thinking and concentration. Most of the thinking that goes through System 2 originates in System One, but System 2 takes over when it requires effort. For example, when given a simple mathematical equation such as what is two plus two? the majority of people can answer this by using only System 1 because it does not require a lot of effort. As the equation becomes more complicated, such as multiplication or division of three digits, the brain requires more effort and must go through System 2. Why are these called System 1 and System 2 instead of automatic system and effortful system ? Kahneman answers, The reason is simple: Automatic system takes longer to say than System 1 and therefore takes more space in your working memory. • 12. Modernist Movement in Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s... Ford Madox Ford and Virginia Woolf were major contributors to the modernist movement. They, as well as others (such as James Joyce), were trying something new, by breaking down the boundaries of traditional writing. Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway are two particular examples of the genre. These novels were not well received in their own time. As time went on, however, the attitudes of the literary world changed and were able to finally see these works for what they really are exemplary pieces of fiction, certainly worth merit. The Good Soldier was first published in 1915. Rebecca West penned a promising review for the year, ending with Indeed, this is a much, much better book than any of us deserve (40). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He questions Dowell s mental balance because he degrades Florence, his wife, for her indiscretions. Edward Ashburnham is guilty of the very same things, yet he is still regarded as good people. He also wonders at the meaning of the narrator s nearly phobic concern with Catholicism, or of the way in which his slurs at Leonora are justified by her attachment to that persuasion (46). If the implication is that John Dowell is crazy, Schorer is failing to see other psychological reasons why a man such as Dowell would think this way. It is evident that our narrator has not fully processed all of the events before he begins to tell of them. In addition, Dowell obviously wants to continue thinking highly of Ashburnham the good soldier, and this completes John s psychological quandary. At the very least, Schorer recognizes the merit of The Good Soldier, and his essay appears to understand the deliberate complexities of the novel. Charles Hoffman likens The Good Soldier to an allegory, the breakup of civilization itself, heading toward disaster (53). Even while the quartet is falling apart, however, they still put on the proverbial brave face and, to all outward appearances, are just fine. This can be applied to the world at large. Arden Of Faversham Critical Analysis The play Arden of Faversham follows the Renaissance genre of tragedy, yet it focuses on the domestic sphere in the unconventional setting of Arden and Alice s home, rather than the courtly setting of most tragedies written in the Elizabethan period, in the realm of nobility. While most tragedies following this genre concern themselves with the authority of those in the noble court, Arden of Favershams primary concern is with the authority within their own home. As theatre began shifting away from the political sphere in the Elizabethan period and focused more on comedic and tragic genres, playwrights were able to feature more intimate and domestic issues in their spectacles, but still regarded courtly settings as the appropriate setting ... This is demonstrated after Gaveston reads the letter brought to him from the king, as he states, What greater blisse can hap to Gaveston,/ Then live and be the favorit of a king? (Edward I.I 4 5). This letter is calling Gaveston back to Edward s court, Gaveston s exile and return is a reoccurring theme throughout the play. Marlowe constructs this play through the characterization of his characters, as the king searches for his identity in his relationship with Gaveston. The play itself opens with a soliloquy by Gaveston, My father is deceast ; come, Gaveston,/ And share the kingdom with thy deerest friend (Edward I.I. 1 2), yet these first two lines are actually the words of the king, interplaying the relationship with the king, and the role of the courtly world. However, while Arden and its characters stray from the courtly world created in Edward II and The Spanish Tragedy, the author of Arden does not keep this consistent throughout. For example, although Arden is unconventionally not of noble birth, he does marry Alice who was descended of a noble house (Arden I.202). Although the play is not directly representing a concern with state issues and territories, The playwright of Arden uses irony, as seen in the passage, My saving husband hoards up bags of gold/ To make our children rich (Arden I. 220 1). The irony represented in this statement is magnified as it was Alice who claims that her husband saving money for their next generation, yet she is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Ideology Of American Identity The meaning of what it means to be an American has been fundamentally consistent over the course of our history. America is a collection of individual states and individual people united under the great idea of liberty. The forefathers of this country first defined these ideas of American identity in the Constitution in 1787. Since then, the scope of American identity has expanded from white men to men of all color, and later women. If the American War for Independence was the event that defined American identity, the American Civil War was the first instance in which this identity was challenged, and ultimately redefined. The newborn United Statesof America was in a state of disarray following the American War for Independence. The people had just fought a war against tyranny and corruption, which naturally raised concern over the government s role in the sovereignty of independent states. This fear of corrupt government led to the failure of the Articles of Confederation. Soon after the war ended, American politics revolved around two important ideologies. Republicanism and Federalism. Although the Federalists as a political entity met their demise at the end of John Adams presidency, their ideology influenced American politics well into the Jacksonian Era. The way you play your hand is free will. Norman Cousins. This quote was the basic underlying moral of the book The Other Wes Moore and the short story The Third and Final Continent. The poem if acts as a guideline for a person s willpower. The poem If shows the reader the steps to follow to come out of a situation of doubt with sheer will power. The Other Wes Moore conveys this same theme when the main character breaks out of poverty in a first desperate, but then determined childhood. The Third and Final Continent follows the story of a talented young student and the hardships faced in his unfamiliar new life in The United States of America. These texts, If, The Other Wes Moore, and The Third and Final Continent represent how effort becomes the driving force of success even in improbable circumstances through use of setting, characterization, and conflict. Setting can affect a characters outcome drastically which directly affects the theme. The Other Wes Moore utilizes the environment to show the dis advantages that Wes faced in order to get out of the poverty ridden area he was in. Cherry Hill wasn t built as a sustainable community for its families... over half of the eight thousand residents lived below the poverty line (Moore, p.29). This quote shows how the author intended for the reader to use this setting later in the book to compare Wes s life to what it was back then. In the poem if, the author presented the problem of how doubt holds you back. If you can trust yourself when all omen doubt you, (Kipling). This shows how the author brings the reader s attention to this problem, therefore, making them ponder over it. This provides awareness to the problem and shows the reader how breaking out of this mindset could be beneficial to your success. Both of these texts display a use of setting to cause the reader to, in if s case, consider the problem, thus making it more aware, and The Other Wes Moore uses it to piece together certain parts of Wes s Life. Characterization is a key component of building a theme in a story. In The Other Wes Moore, Wes s life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Family Medical Leave Act The Family Medical Leave Act The Family Medical Leave Act was passed in 1993 and updated in 2008 and 2009. The law requires employers with 50 or more employees to allow up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. The provision of the law would allow employees who have worked for one year and have worked at least 1,250 hours to use the unpaid leavefor family or medical reasons (DeCenzo 267). It is important to note that the employee does not have to work for one year of continuous service, any combination of weeks worked that equal to 52 weeks makes and employee eligible for FMLA leave. When stopped for a traffic violation, you are to always have the following items: driver license, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration. As of May 8, 2009, all motor vehicles operated on Alabama highways must have liability insurance. If you do not have insurance and involved in an accident, you will have to pay. Minimum coverage for a single injured individual is $25,000 and $50,000 for two or more injuries. A first conviction for not having mandatory liability insurance holds a fine up to $500 plus court cost. Drinking and driving is a wide spread practice. Drinking while driving is a main factor in traffic crashes. There are several things we should know about alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant, not a stimulant. It interferes with all judgment, lowers alertness, and slows the normal reflexes. Some people think they feel stimulated after the consumption of alcohol. They feel this way because their inhibitions are lowered, causing loss of caution and self control. By 1888, the company developed its first snapshot camera and became an American household name. Over time, Kodak believed that most of their money came from film, which caused the company to lose focus on their equipment. However, by the 1960s, Kodak started to introduce new products that focused on medical imaging and graphic arts. One of the key players in the industry is Polaroid. One issue they faced was an antitrust suit with independent service organizations. Kodak controls most of the service market and the market for its replacement parts. The independent service organizations argued that Kodak was trying to force them out of business by restricting their access to replacement parts and by trying to insure that customers for its business machines either service the machines themselves or buy service directly from Kodak (Greenhouse). Kodak was being accused of violating the Sherman Antitrust Act. The service companies believed that Kodak was unlawfully tying the sale of service for Kodak machines to the sale of parts, and unlawfully trying to monopolize the market for service (Greenhouse). Science has proven that when you bulk a muscle, it loses it s elastic qualities. As a result, the center of the muscle is shortened, balled up, and pulled away from connective tissue which connects/holds muscles to the joints. This is called muscle hypertrophy. Science has shown that it can have an adverse effect on athletic movement. This puts more stress on the ligaments and tendons and causes muscular imbalances. Compare the way a human body is made to a trampoline. A trampoline has a webbing or net in the middle which we jump on. All of the focus and attention is usually on the net, similar to how most of the attention is usually put on the size of the athlete s muscles. But what is actually firing or creating most of the power? Is it the webbing or the springs? Think about it, the springs that are connected to the skeleton of the trampoline are actually absorbing most of the shock applied to the trampoline. The springs reverse that energy and catapults a person high into the air. So we have a net, that is connected to a spring, that is connected to the skeleton of the trampoline. The human body is made the same way. Dantes Inferno Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli demonstrated that the different critical exegetical positions, regarding the Divine Comedy (whose intent appears on one side as a disciplinary and moral renewal of the Church, and on the other side as a hidden, heretical reversion) were not free from contemporary pressures. In fact, their own theories are able to offer a valid evidence of the nineteenth century s political and religious debates, and for this reason, I am going to analyse the interpretation of Dante s work by Ugo Foscolo, through both, the Discorso sul testo della Divina Commedia , and two articles that Foscolo published in the Edinburgh Review in 1818; in addition, I am going to analyse the interpretation by Rossetti through his work titled... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obviously, being impossible to summarize the vast, esoteric, exegesis of Dante proposed by them, I am feeling obliged to try to highlight some common key of readings as, for example: 1) the relation between the symbol of the Cross (representing the Roman Church) and the Eagle (representing the Empire), whose doctrines are linked to mankind s need for salvation. These two institutions (Church and Empire), according Dante s thought, had to be both settled at the centre of Rome, as at the time of the Holy Roman Empire. In addition, according to Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, Dante attacked the Church exclusively because he wanted the renewal of the spiritual dimension, where the Church had to abandon its material interests, leaving exclusively to the Empire the task to unify Peoples under a unique government. In this way, both Church and Empire would have been able to help humankind for their spiritual and material ends. 2) Another common key of reading, for Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, is linked with the symbol of Beatrice, which is seen by the three interpreters, not as a real woman, but as a symbol of the wisdom, present in many ancient traditions. 3) I will try to highlight the fact that the esoteric reading of Dante, is considered by both, Foscolo and Rossetti in key heterodox, neo Pythagorean and Ghibelline, while it is considered by Valli in super catholic key. The Letter From Jourdan Anderson Reading the first letter from Jourdan Anderson, one of the meanings of freedom one can take away from the tone of Anderson s diction is the freedom to throw shade. Seriously, Anderson is now a free man and thus free to write smugly to his former master, and eloquently so. His letter essentially tells the Colonel there is no chance in hell that he and his family will return to live with the man who previously enslaved them. Anderson also expressed he knew he was already a free man in response to the Colonel promising his freedom upon his return. Anderson states, there is nothing to be gained on that score, as I got my free papers in 1864 from the Provost Marshal General of the Department of Nashville. That line asserts to the Colonel that going returning to Big Spring would not be advantageous because he can already live freely with his family. • 35. Monty Python And The Holy Grail The film Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a parody of Arthurian stories. It is a film that is not very elaborate on special effects, costumes and such as it even includes invisible horses with coconuts to mimic the sound of the galloping horses. All which indicate the low budget set on the production of the film. Although, the quality of the film does not suffer with it s low budget since this adds uniqueness and more comical pieces to the film. The concepts triggered in the film come from elements of the Arthurian legends. The elements are concepts related to the education, health of the time, code of chivalry, divine rights, Christianity and social division. The film opens with a scene where King Arthur is discussing with his guard the use of coconuts for the sound of the horses. This leads to an argument of how the coconuts arrived to England since they come from a tropical zone. The guard and King Arthur decide to make up reasons and come to an elaborate yet very confusing answer that in reality does not clear the dilemma. This scene can be related to the education of the medieval times, which was very low and explanations came from sumptuous fabrications. In addition, many of the Arthurian legends have details that are somewhat unfit or unrealistic and portray that believe of what is not possible. One example of this is the battle with the Green Knight whom was decapitated and still continued to live. This can also be connected to the unrealistic scene in the film ... • 40. Descriptive Power Of Nature Deep in the mountains in the southwest corner of North Carolina is a river unlike any other. Halfway through my perilous rafting journey, there was a moment when time stood still. I witnessed a natural phenomenon which displayed the beauty of nature at its finest. During that moment, I realized the insignificance of humanity, and why we should respect the overwhelming power of nature. The Nantahala is a whitewater river nestled in a valley with steep mountains flanking it on all sides. The forest it was situated in is the only temperate rainforest east of the Mississippi River. The rafting Industry has adopted this river as its premier destination. I was a 14 year old Boy Scout on a three day camping trip in the Nantahala Gorge. The weather was cloudy with periodic rain showers throughout the day and night. The temperature was at the mid 80 s but never got above the 90 s. I was in a bright yellow raft shared amongst five of my companions and a rafting Guide who went by the name Bones. Bones was a Caucasian man with dreads in his hair, tattoos of paddles shaped as a pirates cross on both of his arms, and was massively strong. We floated down the river like leaves down a stream; constantly fighting to stay upright and not be cast overboard by the restless aggression of the rapids. We were part of the way through a two hour journey down the Nantahala river. It had rained continuously throughout the trip, which meant we were soaked to the bone and fighting hypothermia. ... Zeffirelli Versus Luhrmann s Film Zeffirelli s film depiction of the balcony scene is superior to Luhrmann s film because it is truer to Shakespeare s play and has a better interpretation of the play to film. The films are similar in that it s night and Juliet looks out her balcony as Romeo leaves her house. Although the Luhrmann film depiction during the balcony scene was in a lavish house which would have never been seen during the time frame of when the play was written. There may have been lavish houses during the time the play was written, but they don t come close to the setting in the Zeffirelli film. This plays a key role in the film seeing that the accuracy of the events of the scene help to give the viewers an enhanced feel to the original atmosphere. Another significant ...
