Inclusion In Special Education
Students across America with special needs have been integrated into classrooms with populations of
general education students. This integration of students with special needs and students in general
education is called inclusion. Inclusion is no longer an option for schools to choose or not choose.
Federal law now requires the inclusion of all students with special needs if that placement is the least
restrictive environment.
Public Law 94 142, which states that education will be provided to all handicapped children, was
enacted to prevent discrimination that was considered wide spread (Elliott et McKenney, 1998). An
amendment to this act in 1990, titled Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), stated that
the education of that person would include all academic areas, as well as the vocational and technical
areas of education (Cronis Ellis, 2000). Many high school instructors believe that the process of
including students with special needs into general education classes demonstrates reverse
discrimination for general education students. Some feel that there is a failure to meet the needs of
either regular or special education students (Winzer, 1998, p. 2). Because inclusion causes a change in
how educators teach and students learn, it becomes important to analyze the effects of inclusion on the
general education students to best serve both populations.
Teachers struggle with the concept of inclusion for a variety of reasons. Some feel that the students

Research Paper On Cancer Constellation
I am choosing the Cancer constellation. I have chosen this so I can better understand the origins of my
zodiac sign as, while not involved in astronomy, it gives a sort of connection between the two and the
constellation one is to be a part of. Cancer, otherwise known as the crab, is the faintest of the thirteen
Zodiac constellations. It is best found in the Northern Hemisphere in late winter or early spring. It has
what is called a Beehive star cluster, also known as M44.It is in an area of 506 square degrees and
contains five main stars, seventy six flamsteed stars, and ten stars with planets. In ancient Greek
stories, Hera was out to kill Heracles. Because he was so strong, she was unable to kill him so she

The Nazi Party and The Holocaust Essay
The Holocaust was a terrible time. This terrible time was all a plan, led by Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler
was sent to prison for treason. Even after he got out, he worked with the government of Germany. He
even rose to be the Dictator of Germany, with the luck of the last leader s passing. He blamed others
for his struggle. He passed laws, to make it legal to descriminate and to single out groups of people,
races, and religions.
During the Holocaust, terrible and devistating things happened. Jews, and other races, religions, and
eve people were singled out and killed. A E s History of the Holocoust would call it a mass murder.
Hitler and his men killed millions of people. They killed them in many desturbing ways. Camps were
even set up. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Innocent people s rights and state of being were taken away by these terrible men. Knowing about
their struggle and the racism, shows us that racism is an extreme problem, and is something bad to get
into.
What Hitler showed numerous amounts of time is a good lesson for everybody. This lesson, is more
directed towards the governments. Hitler showed major abuse of power. He started off as making
descrimination legal, and then moved on to killing people. He not only did this as a plan, but he did
this rather quickly.
The Holocaust was of course, a very depressing time for many people in the world. Nobody ever
wishes to see anything like it again. That is why we study it, we study to remember. We want to
remember all of the bad things. Remembering the bad things, is not to bring hurt, but to bring back our
courage to fight. It is also to help us recognize how the nation felt and responded to the chaos.
Looking back at that time period, and the events that consisted with in it, we must never let it happen
again. Learning, is also helping prevent another Holocaust. The nation may be better prepared now,
but we don t want to have to use our preparation against something as bad as it was.
We, the world did not, and will not leave anyone responsible for the war crimes to not be punished.
They were responsible for the death and for the heartache of half the world. We also learn about the
Holocaust to learn how we get justice.

Shogunate Period Essay
The following essay will highlight the reasons that contributed to the success of the Japanese
Shogunate period, as well as factors that influenced in a negative way the Japanese history as a whole.
I will look at factors that made the social classes run as smoothly as they did. The reasons and benefits
of very few wars throughout the period and the effects on the education that people received. I will
also look at the negatives of the Shogunate period, yet depending on how you look at things, this essay
could mean a completely different thing to you and to others.

Even though the emperor was on top of the pyramid, the shogun held all of the real political and social
power, which will be discussed next. Underneath the emperor was the Shogun, they were many
shoguns throughout the Shogunate period. The shogun was the most important figure in Japanese
society due to his many responsibilities, he held the most political power, and he ran the military and
was a lawmaker. Below the Shogun was the daimyo. The daimyo were wealthy landowners, served
the shogun and were in charge of the samurai. Under the daimyo were the samurai. The samurai were

earned land and social status. Samurai practiced the moral code of Bushido it was the way of life for

Business, Industrialization And Monopolies During The...
Rapid growth of business, industrialization, and monopolies, contributed to the Industrial Revolution
in the United States during the Progressive Era. Following a policy of laissez faire failed to control big
businesses. Although some critics may believe that the government negatively impacted businesses
during the Industrial Revolution, the regulations put onto businesses positively contributed to
economic growth and protected the American citizens from the big businesses. Prior to the industrial
revolution in America, businesses were small, family owned, and generally did not cause many
problems. At the time, the largest enterprises only employed around 50 people ( Corporations ). With
only small businesses up to the 1870 s, the government was able to follow laissez faire policies.
However, the Industrial Revolution grew in Europe and quickly made its way to America. Businesses
rapidly began to grow and monopolies formed. The need for railroads and transportation supported the
growth of industries ( Corporations ). The railroads made it easy to transport manufactured goods
across the nation ( Industrial ). Robber barons, John Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and J.P. Morgan,
took advantage of the need for new industries and quickly began to ruin the country; their monopolies
controlled everything. The formation of monopolies and trusts eliminated competition and drove
prices of basic items up (Benson). Consumers began to have only one expensive option for the

Jack London Figurative Language
The first few chapters of White Fang were very detailed because Jack London used great figurative
language and had good choice of words to describe he s setting. The book states Dark spruce forest
frowned on either side the frozen waterway. The trees had been stripped by a recent wind of their
white covering of frost, and they seemed to lean toward each other, black and ominous, in the fading
light (London 1) which is a great example of Jack London being really detailed. Also these first few
chapters had a lot of figurative language and metaphors. Having figurative language and metaphors in
a story are really important because it can keep the reader interested in the book and you can keep the
reader thinking. An example of figurative language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, The land itself was a desolation, lifeless, without movement, so lone and cold that the
spirit of it was not even that of sadness (London 1). This quote is an example of how he is very
detailed and how he describes what kind of setting his characters are in because he describes how
desolate and quiet the forest is; which also gives us an idea and a feel for how the setting is in the
book. Being detailed about the setting helps the reader because the reader would know where the
characters are at and the time the story takes place in; also being detailed in the setting is important
because if the reader doesn t know what a forest is it kind of gives them a feel of what a forest is like.
The book also states, The unrest of the dogs had been increasing, and they stampeded, in a surge of
sudden fear, to the near side of the fire, cringing and crawling about the legs of the men. In the
scramble one of the dogs had yelped with pain and fright as the smell of its singed coat possessed the
air (London 7). This quote is another example of why being really detailed is important because it
adds more intensity to action scenes so it gets the reader at the edge of their sits. It s important to have
the reader at the edge of their sits so the author can keep the reader interested into the book and keep
their minds thinking of what might happen next. These are some reasons why Jack London is very
detailed in these first few

Pimps tend to choose their targets wisely by taking advantage of their social and economical
disadvantages. According to the article Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls, typically, the countries
from which many of the victims originate have unstable political climates and are economically
disadvantaged (Deshpande and Nour). Victims are taken away from their families and loved ones,
isolated in a foreign country, and unable to speak the language they need in order to ask for help.
Traffickers are highly skilled profiteers who use a variety of tactics to trap their victims. They give
their girls false promises such as education opportunities, job opportunities, and false marriages in
order to obtain American citizenship. They also use a tactic known as debt bondage where they expect
their victims to provide personal or sexual services to pay a portion of their debt (Deshpande and

Labeling Youths...and The Consequences Thereof
A child s self esteem often times comes from their status in a group of their peers, their family, school
life and in society. With that in mind, society still decides to label youths as deviants, delinquents and
status offenders ultimately changing their own views on their self image. This affects the way youths
think about themselves and how they will play a role in society. It also affects the way society will
later treat them and whether or not they become an outsider. Labeling youths is an unnecessary evil
that often times changes children into criminals. To understand labeling we must first look at its
definition. Labeling Theory is a theoretical approach to deviant behavior, basically stating that

If the judge concludes that the juvenile committed the offense, the judge does not find the juvenile
guilty but delinquent . (Fagin 241) The judge also has the ability of sentencing the delinquent to
community service, a juvenile detention center or another fit form of punishment. Authorities and
teachers then treat delinquent children differently and several studies suggested that under certain
circumstances, official punishment appears to increase the likelihood of subsequent deviance as
suggested by labeling theory. (Bartollas 130)
Labeling is not just found in society and the justice system or at home. It usually begins at school
where a child s achievements, behavior and temperament are placed on a scale to determine normalcy.
Should a child be difficult to manage, a slow learner or aggressive they may be diagnosed with ADD,
ADHD or placed in Special Needs/Education classes. This separates them from their friends and other
children inadvertently labeling them as different. The treatment of these children is different than
those in regular classes and programs. Sometimes children may not be able to perform satisfactorily in
school which leads them to become disruptive, decide to drop out or are suspended all of which
further reinforces involvement in deviant behavior. (Bartollas 207) Without a proper education
children grow and fend for themselves. They are left with minimum wage jobs or

Redefining Societal Norms In Alison Bechdel s Fun Home
Sexuality and Redefining Societal Norms Fun Home by Alison Bechdel is a tragicomic that portrays
characters with differing styles of dealing with their own sexuality. Everything about the novel, from
the manner in which it is told, to the character development of Alison and her father Bruce, is a unique
way of discovering one s self and the effect the outside world has on this discovery. Both Alison and
her father struggle with coming into their own identities. A further complication to their own self
discoveries are the time period in American society that they live in. Homosexuality was a taboo and
not currently shared by people in these circles. There is also the two different methods of discovering
one s sexuality. A father who does everything in his power to appear perfect to the public eye. He
hides his inner self to the world because it does not fit in with societal norms. The reader is also
presented with a daughter who rejects every normal feminine stereotype that is pushed on her by her

Febrile Epilepsy Research Paper
Each year, one in one hundred people in the United State develop epilepsy, but there is a less common
type of epilepsy. It s called febrile infection related epileptic syndrome, more commonly known as
FIRES. I happen to know one of the few people who have this type of epilepsy. Her name is Kailee,
and she goes to my brother s school. She was even in some of his classes. This type of epilepsy occurs
in school aged children between the ages of six and seventeen ( What is FIRES? ). It starts with a mild
febrile illness that lasts anywhere from four days to two weeks. Febrile illness is when someone has a
fever but they aren t sick with anything else ( Febrile Illness ). When Kaylee was at this point, her
mom thought she had the flu. This is very common, as the flu presents itself as a fever in many
children. Then, the child starts to have seizures. The seizures occur very quickly, and the child needs
to be hospitalized immediately at this point. Seizures the children experience are non focal, meaning
they have no consistent starting point or ending point in the brain ( What is FIRES ). The disease is
slightly more prevalent in boys than girls, but there is no known reason as ... Show more content on

Due to its low prevalence, they aren t able to study enough patients to get any solid results. However,
there are some ideas as to what causes the seizures. First of all, it could be genetic. The problem with
this theory is that no gene has been found that could link to FIRES. Some scientists think the disease
is a result of an autoimmune response, while others think the seizures are caused by a malfunction in
the metabolic process of some cells. Both of these theories have little evidence to support them.
FIRES could be a result of the febrile illness that comes before the seizures. The idea is that the
increased heat in the body results in the mutation of a pathogen. The new pathogen might attack the
brain and cause the seizures (Van

Oldcastle Precast of Avon, Conn. prefabricated a precast concrete pool and weir fish ladder, designed
for a tributary to Hubbard Brook, Middletown, as part of the Connecticut Department of
Transportation s State Route 410 (Aircraft Road) culvert rehabilitation project.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation included a concrete pool and weir fish ladder to the
culvert rehabilitation project under State Route 410 after learning about the benefits of a fish ladder, at
this site, by the CT DEEP Inland Fisheries Division and the Fishery department. The new fish ladder
is providing fish passage through the slip line repaired culvert. Slip lining entails installation of a

The Connecticut DEEP and the Fishery department found multiple benefits to adding a fish

Paul Dunbar Sympathy Essay
Paul Dunbar, an African American poet who was famous during the Harlem Renaissance, wrote a
poem titled, Sympathy in 1899. The poem expressed his relations to a caged bird and how he
understands how the caged bird feels. Dunbar s use of imagery and repetition helps to clearly depict
the struggle to obtain freedom and the feeling of imprisonment. Dunbar s usage of imagery is greatly
expressed throughout the poem, with the uses of your senses. When the river flows like a stream of
glass; When the first bird sings and the first bud opes... , Dunbar uses the senses of sight and hearing
to help the reader picture the scenery to better understand that the bird is trapped in a cage witnessing
the beautiful outside of flowers blossoming and can t be a part of it. In addition, Dunbar later
elaborates the birds struggle to be on the inside of the cage by stating I know why the caged bird beats
his wing Till its blood is red on the cruel bars And a pain still throbs in the old, old scars and they

society at some point in his life. However, he may even understand the hope the bird feels in regards
to overcoming the struggle. At the end of the poem, Dunbar concludes with, When his wing is bruised

Wilbur, discovered a way to fly, making the world a little bigger. With the invention of the first flying
machine and their investigation into aeronautics, the Wright Brothers, paved the way for the future of
flight. During their investigation the Wright Brothers faced many problems, but they plowed through

Their father was afraid of losing them both in a plane crash and made them promise that they would
never fly together. However, on May251910, the brothers flew a 6 minute flight together. Orville
piloted this momentous flight. After they landed, Orville took his 82 year old father on his first and
last flight. While Orville gained elevation, Milton cried out, After their successful flight, the Wright
brothers approached the governments of England, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States War
Department. After a few private sales, the War Department commissioned a plane in 1907. With this
purchase, the Brothers opened up a school to teach pilots about the airplane. The first of these schools
was established in Montgomery, Alabama on March151910. After receiving the schooling, these pilots
were then able to instruct future pilots. In 1909, the French government also bought a plane with the
condition that could have one that could carry a passenger. The brothers quickly went to work and
added an additional seat and increased the power of the motor. Aviation was beginning to take flight!
Flight has expanded the world s horizon. Through flight we can now travel in a matter of minutes
what used to take days. We are able to reach destinations which were once unreachable. During the

Descriptive Essay About Angelo
You were fantastic, cries Patsy as I approach the table. At some point after my performance, Angelo
had granted her freedom. She opens her arms, inviting me into her embrace which I accept. Thank
you. Do you want to sit? Actually, can we dance? she asks, raising an eyebrow. Sure. I allow her to
lead us a little way from the table. Though I m sure if I was to glance towards our table, I would see
both Angelo and John. Nevertheless, I refuse to allow my gaze to wander, despite their protest. Are
you having fun? I ask her. Her eyes flutter closed as she squeals, This is the best night of my life. I m
glad you are, though I couldn t say John would agree. What s wrong with him, tonight? She rolls her
eyes. He s got his panties in a twist over Angelo and you. I scoff. I thought so. I can understand a little
of where he s coming from. He likes you a lot, and so does Angelo it seems. Well, I can t say the
feelings mutual between me and John. Especially when he s acting like this. As for Angelo, he s dating
someone. Really? Who? My mouth opens, yet I promptly close it again. Before I disclose any
information to others, I d like to hear it from Alice first. I suppose it doesn t matter, she says. As for
John, I keep telling him he s acting stupid. But don t allow this night to cloud your judgement over

Reality of Sleep Paralysis Essay
The concept of sleep paralysis is not necessarily a concept, it is a reality. I have had this occur to me
numerous times for the better part of the past twenty years. What makes this a concept is why and how
it occurs. I do not believe it is not spoken of enough, and I sincerely believe that more people would
be interested in knowing what exactly this condition is.
The conditon known as sleep paralysis is defined as the momentary inability to move one s limbs,
trunk and head despite being fully conscious. This can happen while falling asleep (hypogogic sleep)
or when waking up (hypnopompic sleep). In my case, hypnopompic sleep is when I suufer this
condition. Hypnopompic sleep is when a person becomes aware before REM has finished, ... Show

I did in fact fall back to sleep, and I didn t mention it to anyone, because for all I knew, no one else
had ever felt this.
While researching the topic of sleep paralysis I learned that it is not a new kind of disorder, brought on
by cell phones, smog, or global warming it has been around for centuries. Sleep paralysis was once
attributed to evil presences, and it was even referred to as old hag in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet.
I learned that, in most cases, it is simply a sign that a person s body is not moving smoothly through
sleep (http://www.webmd.com/sleep disorders/sleep paralysis). Most cases refers to hypnogogic sleep,
whereas it happens to me when I am coming out of REM sleep.
There is not at this moment a known cure for sleep paralysis, yet there are symptoms that are
attributed to causing it. I found in Scientific American that factors include: going to sleep while lying
on the back, and also when feeling stressed or experiencing a disruption in normal sleep patterns (jet
la attributed g, caffeine, alcohol). I found on Stanford University s website that good sleep hygiene
may prevent sleep paralysis. These preventive measures include: getting enough sleep, reduction of
stress, exercise regularly (but not too close to bedtime), and also keep a regular sleep schedule

nerve wracking action most of a book. Despite the fast paced nature of the book, one can also see the
development of characters throughout not only the trilogy, but this book alone. Yet one reading must
also enjoy a fantasy world with a completely different culture and society base than that of our own.
One can easily find themselves lost in the world that James Barclay has beautifully constructed. For
those who have a hard time getting into any given book if it starts out slowly, not to worry,
Shadowheart is faced paced from the get go. Despite having a few defined protagonists, the antagonist
is sometimes hard to find. This can mostly be attributed to having multiple story lines within any
given chapter telling you about what is going on with every side of the war. This structure gives the
book a unique reading style that is enjoyable and adds an extra element to the experience of reading. I

Politics As A Method Of Resolving Conflict Essay
It is important to consider that politics is a contested concept with numerous differing views and
perspectives presented to us. These different perspectives can offer similar perspectives on the concept
of politics and what it means; whilst other times the views are strongly contrasting creating debate on
the subject. The main examples of the differing views of politics are as follows: Politics as the art of
government; which is the more traditional view of politics. Politics as public affairs; a view which
focuses on public institutions rather than civil society. Politics as compromise and consensus; a view
which sees politics as a method of resolving conflict. The final view of politics is the view that politics
is power; this more cynical view of politics focuses more on the idea of power within the state. This
essay will serve to set out these definitions; compare and contrast them with one another to hopefully
ascertain a detailed idea of the concept of politics.
To begin we should examine what is commonly seen as the traditional view of politics: politics as the
art of government. This point of view suggests that the study of politics is solely the study of
government, the administrative arm of the state, more specifically the legislature and executive
branches with a lesser focus on the judiciary wing. Government can be seen in the following way: ...
institutions responsible for making collective decisions for society. More narrowly, government refers

Laboratory Analysis And Results Are Vital Part Of...
Undoubtedly, laboratory analysis and results are vital part of diagnosis of many disorders and diseases
these days. According to Peter et al. (2010), an estimated 60% to 80% of patient management
decisions are based on laboratory data. Therefore, accreditation of processes and competence of
pathology laboratories is very significant particularly for benefit of patients. The UK was, along with
Holland, the first European country to introduce a laboratory accreditation scheme for pathology
(Barnes, 2014). Organisations, such as the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), the Health and

Expectationships And Personal Relationships
People are relational and communicative human beings who, often, fail at being relational and
communicative with other human beings, such as their life partners. Humans enter relationships for
multitudes of reasons, but most are searching for someone to love and build a life with. However,
people have different concepts of what a life together constitutes. When people begin to build a
relationship with a partner they bring a variety of expectations into the partnership. These expectations
may apply to one, the other, or both members of the relationship and they may, or may not, be in
accordance to the expectations that the other person has brought into the relationship. Expectations
can complicate or simplify relationships; similarly, expectations can make or break relationships. My
husband and I have been together for over seven years, but married a little over one year. My husband
and I s changing relational dynamic has been evaluated through both of us taking the Household
Survey. The discussion that followed showed that we disagree about the division of household chores
and aspects of our future family, but we have similar perspectives about our finances. As shown in the
survey, Cade and I disagree about the division of various household chores, such as dishes, grocery
shopping, laundry, and cleaning the house. Before we got married both Cade and I knew that we were
not the most organized or chore focused people. When we are together we would rather enjoy the

In General, The Word Miseducation Means To Educate...
In general, the word miseducation means to educate improperly. There are likely several ways I have
been miseducated, some of which I may not even be aware of yet. I have long understood that
education can happen outside a classroom. In fact many valuable life lessons were learned just going
about day to day activities. Some of the best learnings have come from raising a child, experiencing
and enduring tragedy and of course family has provided positive and negative lessons. When I think
about miseducation I instantly go to my experiences within the education system. It is ironic to think
that the education system may have educated me improperly. I have two university experiences, one
past and one present, that provide clarification.

to take brain breaks and we have been taught that the brain is incapable of learning when it is in a

Unnatural Motifs In Macbeth
Shakespeare uses unnatural motifs to show how Macbeth and everyone around him cannot escape
their ultimate destinies.
At the beginning of the play, Macbeth meets the Weird Sisters and starts his chain of unnatural
circumstances and his great destiny. As Macbeth and Banquo are walking back from battle, they meet
the weird sisters who confusingly hail him as Thane of Glamis (1.3.51), Thane of Cawdor (1.3.52),
and as the king hereafter (1.3.53). These confusing actions disturb Macbeth because he sees it as three
weird women hailing him as king hereafter after waiting for him outside of a military battle. After
many festivities and the title of Thane of Cawdor being entrusted to Macbeth, Banquo wakes up at
night and tells Macbeth that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Banquo is killed, Macbeth goes to the weird sisters to learn more about his destiny, to which he
is responded to by an apparition who says that Macbeth must Beware Macduff! Beware the Thane of
Fife! (4.1.81 82) and another apparition who says for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth.
(4.1.91 92). This is highly unnatural because the witches have summoned apparitions to tell Macbeth
his destiny, and that is very unnerving knowing that these apparitions know these things, as well as the
witches knowing how to summon apparitions. Through this, a dark mood is created as to what thing
not born of woman would kill Macbeth and lead him to his ultimate fate. Later on as Macbeth
prepares for Macduff s siege on his castle, a messenger comes and says that as he did stand his watch
upon the hill (5.5.37), that The Wood began to move. (5.5.39). The fact that the woods began to move
is very unnatural and creates a dark mood for the scene because this unnatural circumstance is
foreboding of Macbeth s great destiny coming after him faster than he expected it

A Critical Pathway Development For Ventilator Dependent...
Communication is a tool that nurse leaders should master in order to send information, perception and
understanding to achieve work activities and goals. Effective communication involves frequent, clear,
and direct messaging of thoughts and ideas. The three elements leaders should include in creating and
enhancing effective communication are trust, respect, and empathy. For this paper I will discuss some
of the issues found in chapter seven s critical thinking exercise. Nurse Olivia Whitt, who is in charge
of an interdisciplinary team, faces several issues regarding communicating with the organization s
physicians about a critical pathway development for ventilator dependent patients, the dietician who
wants to integrate dietary protocols for the pathway and a home health care representative who at the
moment is too involved with accreditation issues.
As the leader, it is Olivia s responsibility to manage this interdisciplinary team as they work to
develop a critical pathway for these patients who have multiple complex needs. The main problem in
this exercise is for Olivia to find a way to effectively communicate to all members of this team in an
effort to provide these patients with the best possible care. Because this issue effects the care
coordination of these debilitated patients, this problem belongs to everyone involved in the decision
making group as well as the organization itself. However, since Olivia manages the team, it s her duty

Marriage Is A Necessity Of Life
At one point or another we will all experience the euphoric highs and devastating lows of love. For
most of us, the spell of love will culminate into marriage. It only seems natural since it has been a
cultural norm for hundreds of years. There is even a scientific consensus that we are biologically
compelled to find another mate. However inherent love is to us, marriage is an abstract notion
conceptualized by human philosophy. It is humanity s effort to manifest the unification of two people
and to be recognized by society. Unfortunately, it seems that we have to rethink the validity of
marriage in the 21st century. Divorce plagues society today with the probability averaging out to fifty
percent in the United States. The consequences of divorce generally devastate whole families,
destroying financial life long accomplishments, and even spur us in deep states of depression
sometimes leading to suicide. However conflicting marriage is with modernity, to older generations
the institution of marriage is a necessity of life, but is not fair to men, and is often a disservice to our
youths. As humans we seek the happiness through companionship. For prior generations, one way this
was fulfilled was through marriage. It was a way of life in which an individual would share a
household with their spouse and often times with their offspring. These institutions would be
interdependent on one another for financial stability and emotional support. However, not every

Deterring Juvenile Criminal Activity Essay
Deterring Juvenile Criminal Activity
Arresting juvenile shoplifters can help deter future criminal activity.
Despite millions of dollars spent by retailers each year on surveillance and enforcement devices to
deter theft, shoplifting continues to be a major crime problem.
Store security personnel detect as many as two million shoplifting cases per year, but many are not
reported to the police. And of the almost 400,000 shoplifters detained and turned over to the police
annually, the vast majority are not arrested partly because shoplifters often are not tried and sentenced.
A store s shoplifting policy is influenced largely by the cost of following an arrest through
prosecution. Many stores are wary about the civil liability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
FINDINGS
Shoplifting was not confined to specific gender, race, age, or social class. The typical shoplifter was,
however, disproportionately young and female. Because they were young, they tended to be
unmarried, unemployed, and less educated. As a group, they did not have extensive criminal records.
Researchers found that the shoplifters who were arrested were neither more nor less likely as a group
to commit future shoplifting offenses than were those who had been detained by store security
personnel and released. The arrest rate for both groups over the six month period was about 10
percent.
But arrest did have a significant deterrent effect on one important group juveniles. Of the 253
juveniles apprehended and turned over to the police for arrest, only four percent were rearrested for
crimes other than shoplifting during the following six months. Of the 315 not turned over to the
police, 10 percent were rearrested for crimes other than shoplifting.
These findings challenge traditional assumptions that young people are more likely to repeat their
criminal behavior than older people. In fact, the findings suggest that shoplifters under the age of 17
who are arrested are less than half as likely to repeat their behavior as those over age 17.
IMPLICATIONS
The findings illustrate only what worked for stores in a certain jurisdiction. Adult shoplifters arrested
by the police in this particular jurisdiction were not likely to be prosecuted, convicted,

A Brief Note On Risk Identification And Assessment
12.0 Risk Identification Assessment Risk is an on going responsibility for all team members to
identify. As the plan unfolds, situations may occur that spark other risks to be identified. Anticipated
risks are identified below and will be documented for consideration by other team members and
leadership, as they arise. The risks are considered to be minor and not a significant impact to the
project. Other aspects of a risk will be recorded in a mitigation plan if assigned. The following
potential risks are identified to ensure that management is aware of the top risks for the project and the
nature of the risks before it starts. The following issues are thinks to be aware of: 1. List templates
cannot be created and moved over from 2010 to 2013 due to versioning issues. However, they can be
moved over using the Export to Excel method as long as there are no attachments. 2. Blogs and
Discussion Boards cannot be moved over due to versioning issues. 3. In a few instances of migrating
documents over from 2010 to 2013, the option to update the keywords field is unavailable. The
approach we have taken to manage risks for this project included a methodical process by which the
project team identified, scored, and ranked the various risks. The most likely and highest impact risks
were added to the project schedule to ensure that the assigned risk managers take the necessary steps
to implement the mitigation response at the appropriate time during the schedule. Risk managers

The Court and Sir Thomas Wyatt
The Court and Sir Thomas Wyatt
During the 16th Century, English poetry was dominated and institutionalised by the Court. Because it
excited an intensity that indicates a rare concentration of power and cultural dominance, the Court was
primarily responsible for the popularity of the poets who emerged from it. Sir Thomas Wyatt, one of a
multitude of the so called Court poets of this time period, not only changed the way his society saw
poetry through his adaptations of the Petrarchan Sonnet, but also obscurely attempted to recreate the
culture norm through his influence. Though much of his poems are merely translations of Petrarch s,
these, in addition to his other poetry, are satirical by at least a cultural approach. ... Show more content

Complaint poems were often aimed in the sixteenth century at correcting the problem of which the
poem s speaker complains; in some of these poems the complaint merges with satire to urge correction
of man s foolish and vicious behaviour. Wyatt s complaint poems show an attempt to change the laws
of Courtly love and to employ the Renaissance philosophy of old freedoms regained, thereby
classifying them as satirical. In addition to criticising Courtly love, Wyatt mocks the relationship of
Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn in his sonnet Whoso Lists to hunt. In the poem, Wyatt compares the
fantasy of courtly love with hunters chasing after a hind. The hunters symbolise the courtiers while
Anne Boleyn is the hunted hind. The poem contains the bloody imagery that can be associated with a
hunt; the speaker does not Draw from the deer his wearied mind. This imagery accompanied with the
inscription on the collar around the deer s neck, for Caesar s I am, shows the disintegration of the
institution of the Court. Henry VIII, who was well known for his

The Power of Carver s Little Things Essay
The Power of Carver s Little Things
To a reader unfamiliar with his work, Raymond Carver s short story, Little Things may seem devoid of
all literary devices owning to good writing. Fortunately, these people are mistaken. With his
minimalistic style, it is what Carver doesn t write that makes his work so effective. Most of Carver s
short stories describe situations that many people could find themselves in and that is why his work is
so appealing to readers. They are not restricted to harsh explicative details or over dramatized
language, but are allowed to create their own rationale for the actions of the characters and the
consequent results.

Carver describes this scene with an emotional detachment, concentrating more on what is happening,
rather than why. In her essay about understanding Carver s revisions, Hashimoto says that
minimalistic writing describes the events as they transpire, allowing the reader to draw his own
conclusions. It is most likely that this is Carver s goal.
On account of Carver s use of the outsider s perspective, the reader is not prepared for the climactic
ending: She would have it, this baby. She grabbed for the baby s other arm. She caught the baby
around the wrist and leaned back. But he would not let go. He felt the baby slipping out of his hands
and he pulled back very hard. In this manner, the issue was decided. Here, the reader comes to the
point of the story, that two people s own selfishness blinds them to the suffering they cause another.
Carver says of this approach. Almost all the characters is my stories come to the point where they
realize that compromise, giving in, plays a major role in their lives. Then one single moment of
revelation disrupts the pattern of their daily lives. It s a fleeting moment during which they realize that
they don t want to compromise anymore. And afterwards they realize that nothing ever really changes
(Carson). The story ends with the reader guessing at the emotional depth of the characters and why
they would stop at nothing to get what they wanted. As the man

The Impact Of Movie Piracy In The Film Industry
Most people, no matter what social class theyÂŽre in, have watched a pirated movie. By definition,
movie piracy is the illegal duplicating of movies for sale or any personal use. Or in other words, if you
want to watch a movie, you have to pay for it. No matter, if you pay for a movie ticket, a D.V.D. or
pay to stream it online, that payment goes to many different levels of people who help make the
movie. The latest movement to attack the American society is movie pirating. In any city, it is easy to
find individuals selling pirated copies of movies illegally. A great number of the worldÂŽs black market
business is represented by pirated movies. The use and invention of the internet allowed for creation
and expansion of downloading, sharing files and editing files. Pirates around the world used this
innovation in technology to their advantage. Movie piracy has become a plague to the worldÂŽs
economy because of the theft of over millions from the film industry.
What an average person probably would not understand is that watching an illegal movie is not just
some simple thing. The film industry, or the movie making business, supports well over 2.5 million of
the worldÂŽs jobs. Which goes to say, the film industry holds a huge part of the nationÂŽs economy. The
sale of movies and their proceeds leads to taxable revenue, taxable revenue that goes towards new
roads, wages, development of advanced neighborhoods, schools, and bridges. The supporting action of
those not creating the illegal films, are also affecting the economy. Basically, stealing from the
filmmakers by purchasing illegal copies of their movies. Instead of paying the filmmaker for their
movie, so they can then pay their studio and they can in return pay their actors, producers, crew, crew
help, and more. The production of illegal copies of movies are one thing. The support of these
productions is an entirely different action, but yields a similar result. A knock in the worlds money
flow system, pay the creator, so the creator can pay the staff and the people watching can continue to
pay to watch. When that system is affected, those getting paid to continue the production of these
films, might not be able to be paid the same, or some of them might not

Fictional Literature is based on the author s imagination and perspective rather than reality. Short
stories, novels, novellas and folk tales are kinds of fiction. A short story is a short fictional prose
structure narrative constructed on a plot that includes the basic elements such as situation, rising
action, climax and resolution. In contrast to it, a Novel is a long fictional story that uses all the
elements comprising storytelling, plot, character, setting, theme and point of view.
A Novella is one of the types of fictional literature whose length can be measured as longer than a
short story and shorter than a novel.
Non fictional Literature is factual work of writing which deals only with facts, real people, events or

2013; Pg. 32). Having visible lesions on the skin can lead to self confidence problems and self image
destruction. These visible patches can sometimes result in unwelcomed reactions of others (Lahousen

the belief that every Frenchman had the fighting spirit instilled in them that could turn back any
enemy. Joffre also had the French forces split up into five armies, allowing only one army to guard the
border between Belgium and France. The rest of the armies would be sent to attack Germany s eastern
frontier. When hostilities arose, the French put their plan into effect, moving most of their forces to the

Characteristics Of Airasia Competitive Strategy
Competitive Strategy
Based on Porter 5 Forces(1980) diagram to build four prominent business strategy, cost leadership,

Figure 1
Cost leadership is one of the most common business strategies which refer to the organization s ability
to produce a product or service at a cost below competitors can achieve between AirAsia and other
airlines. However, the implementation of cost leadership strategies requires a consistent focus on
driving costs to generate profit margin. Instead of the offering lower cost price, customer also
considering the differentiation offered by AirAsia which they are willing to pay at any prices.
Choosing the differentiation and characteristics of the products and service recommended or method
in which it is delivered and developing organizational capabilities required to achieve the fundamental
difference is a big challenge for companies (Mohammad Sunman Sarker. 2013).

Description Of Sickle Cell Anemia
Sickle cell anemia is a genetic disorder. The way it affects the human is that it causes red blood cells
to become rigid and sticky. Red blood cells are normally round and easily move through blood
vessels. However when a person has sickle cell anemia some of his or her red blood cells are sickle
shaped, thus the name sickle cell anemia. Along with the sickle shape the red blood cells are rough
and jagged and can often at times cause blood clots. Another name for this disorder is HBS disease.
The disease happens when the deoxyribonucleic acid (or DNA for short) has a mutation. Now a
mutation can be triggered by a number of things to many chromosomes some kind of antibiotic the
parent took before finding out they were pregnant. There are too

At some point during the life of every person there comes a moment when fear of the unknown takes
over and life starts to look disconcerting and alarming. Even though we do not know how a collection
of atoms miraculously formed from the entropy of the universe to create the first organisms on Earth
just the thought of it is both astounding and befuddling. We as a society may never truly discover the
origins of life or life before the universe but we have the ability as a society to look at the world and
wonder how it all came to be and our purpose in life. This inevitably brings panic from the weak of

what s happening in their lives from the rest of the duration of the play. A sense of confusion and
paranoia starts to envelop Guild as the results of the coin toss point evermore in Ros s favor. Ros
however doesn t see it like this and mentions that he won (Stoppard 2) which implies that the
circumstance which he won are inconsequential and that only the fact that he indeed won are
important. Ros in other words in a way wants Guil to accept the nature of his new surroundings which
of course Guil will not do. Guil realizes that something has changed in the world but of course is
oblivious to such change. Guil is not able to accept his fate at this time which is the main reason for
his and later both of their confusion as they are trying to understand why they were put in the situation
they are currently in in the first place. Soon the coin toss incident starts to take a commanding role in
the play as a frequent showcase of Ros and Guil s ceaseless confusion and lack of understanding.
Also, it comes to show Ro and Guil as losing their grip on reality (Druadt 348). Specifically when the
Player and his entourage show up, the coin and what it represents becomes highlighted. In the first
game of coin toss Ros can easily pick up the coin but even a trivial task such as that becomes nearly

Relationship Between Surface Area and Rate Of Reaction Essay
An Experiment To Investigate The Relationship Between Surface Area and Rate Of Reaction
Introduction
The rate of reaction (reaction velocity) may be defined as the rate of change of concentration of a
stated reactant or product. The rate of a reaction is found by measuring the amount of a reactant used
up per unit of time or the amount of a product produced per unit of time. A reaction can be made to go
faster or slower by changing a number of factors. In order for a reaction to occur certain things are
necessary: particles must collide with each other and the collision must have enough energy for the
reaction to occur. If this happens the original bonds are broken and new bonds are formed so that new
products are formed. Successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also when a collision occurs they have more energy and so are more likely to be successful in
breaking and reforming bonds than when they have less energy and are moving more slowly.
Therefore the rate of the reaction will increase. As a rule of thumb when the temperature increases by
10C, the rate of the reaction roughly doubles.
The concentration of the acid The more concentrated the solution, the more particles of reactant are
present in a given volume and the greater the chance of a collision occurring. In dilute acids, with
fewer particles the chance of collisions occurring is reduced.
Therefore if concentration is increased, the reaction rate also increases. This also applies in reactions
between two gases when increasing the pressure has the same effect as increasing the concentration.
The presence of a catalyst A catalyst increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself being used
up. Catalysts are usually transition metals. In the presence of a catalyst, less energy is needed by a
collision in order to be successful. Therefore there are relatively more successful collisions and so the
reaction rate increases. I have decided to investigate how a change in surface area will affect the rate
of the reaction between calcium carbonate (marble chips) and hydrochloric acid. The word equation
for this reaction is:
Calcium + Hydrochloric Carbon + Water + Calcium
Carbonate Acid Dioxide Chloride
CaCO3(s) + 2HCL(aq) = CO2(G) + H2O(l) +

  • 2. Inclusion In Special Education Students across America with special needs have been integrated into classrooms with populations of general education students. This integration of students with special needs and students in general education is called inclusion. Inclusion is no longer an option for schools to choose or not choose. Federal law now requires the inclusion of all students with special needs if that placement is the least restrictive environment. Public Law 94 142, which states that education will be provided to all handicapped children, was enacted to prevent discrimination that was considered wide spread (Elliott et McKenney, 1998). An amendment to this act in 1990, titled Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), stated that the education of that person would include all academic areas, as well as the vocational and technical areas of education (Cronis Ellis, 2000). Many high school instructors believe that the process of including students with special needs into general education classes demonstrates reverse discrimination for general education students. Some feel that there is a failure to meet the needs of either regular or special education students (Winzer, 1998, p. 2). Because inclusion causes a change in how educators teach and students learn, it becomes important to analyze the effects of inclusion on the general education students to best serve both populations. Teachers struggle with the concept of inclusion for a variety of reasons. Some feel that the students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Reality of Sleep Paralysis Essay The concept of sleep paralysis is not necessarily a concept, it is a reality. I have had this occur to me numerous times for the better part of the past twenty years. What makes this a concept is why and how it occurs. I do not believe it is not spoken of enough, and I sincerely believe that more people would be interested in knowing what exactly this condition is. The conditon known as sleep paralysis is defined as the momentary inability to move one s limbs, trunk and head despite being fully conscious. This can happen while falling asleep (hypogogic sleep) or when waking up (hypnopompic sleep). In my case, hypnopompic sleep is when I suufer this condition. Sleep paralysis was once attributed to evil presences, and it was even referred to as old hag in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. I learned that, in most cases, it is simply a sign that a person s body is not moving smoothly through sleep (http://www.webmd.com/sleep disorders/sleep paralysis). Most cases refers to hypnogogic sleep, whereas it happens to me when I am coming out of REM sleep. There is not at this moment a known cure for sleep paralysis, yet there are symptoms that are attributed to causing it. I found in Scientific American that factors include: going to sleep while lying on the back, and also when feeling stressed or experiencing a disruption in normal sleep patterns (jet la attributed g, caffeine, alcohol). I found on Stanford University s website that good sleep hygiene may prevent sleep paralysis. These preventive measures include: getting enough sleep, reduction of stress, exercise regularly (but not too close to bedtime), and also keep a regular sleep schedule ... Yet one reading must also enjoy a fantasy world with a completely different culture and society base than that of our own. One can easily find themselves lost in the world that James Barclay has beautifully constructed. For those who have a hard time getting into any given book if it starts out slowly, not to worry, Shadowheart is faced paced from the get go. Despite having a few defined protagonists, the antagonist is sometimes hard to find. This can mostly be attributed to having multiple story lines within any given chapter telling you about what is going on with every side of the war. • 23. Politics As A Method Of Resolving Conflict Essay It is important to consider that politics is a contested concept with numerous differing views and perspectives presented to us. These different perspectives can offer similar perspectives on the concept of politics and what it means; whilst other times the views are strongly contrasting creating debate on the subject. The main examples of the differing views of politics are as follows: Politics as the art of government; which is the more traditional view of politics. Politics as public affairs; a view which focuses on public institutions rather than civil society. Politics as compromise and consensus; a view which sees politics as a method of resolving conflict. The final view of politics is the view that politics is power; this more cynical view of politics focuses more on the idea of power within the state. This essay will serve to set out these definitions; compare and contrast them with one another to hopefully ascertain a detailed idea of the concept of politics. To begin we should examine what is commonly seen as the traditional view of politics: politics as the art of government. This point of view suggests that the study of politics is solely the study of government, the administrative arm of the state, more specifically the legislature and executive branches with a lesser focus on the judiciary wing. Government can be seen in the following way: ... institutions responsible for making collective decisions for society. More narrowly, government refers to the top ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Expectationships And Personal Relationships People are relational and communicative human beings who, often, fail at being relational and communicative with other human beings, such as their life partners. Humans enter relationships for multitudes of reasons, but most are searching for someone to love and build a life with. However, people have different concepts of what a life together constitutes. When people begin to build a relationship with a partner they bring a variety of expectations into the partnership. These expectations may apply to one, the other, or both members of the relationship and they may, or may not, be in accordance to the expectations that the other person has brought into the relationship. Expectations can complicate or simplify relationships; similarly, expectations can make or break relationships. My husband and I have been together for over seven years, but married a little over one year. My husband and I s changing relational dynamic has been evaluated through both of us taking the Household Survey. The discussion that followed showed that we disagree about the division of household chores and aspects of our future family, but we have similar perspectives about our finances. As shown in the survey, Cade and I disagree about the division of various household chores, such as dishes, grocery shopping, laundry, and cleaning the house. This is highly unnatural because the witches have summoned apparitions to tell Macbeth his destiny, and that is very unnerving knowing that these apparitions know these things, as well as the witches knowing how to summon apparitions. Communication is a tool that nurse leaders should master in order to send information, perception and understanding to achieve work activities and goals. Effective communication involves frequent, clear, and direct messaging of thoughts and ideas. For this paper I will discuss some of the issues found in chapter seven s critical thinking exercise. Nurse Olivia Whitt, who is in charge of an interdisciplinary team, faces several issues regarding communicating with the organization s physicians about a critical pathway development for ventilator dependent patients, the dietician who wants to integrate dietary protocols for the pathway and a home health care representative who at the moment is too involved with accreditation issues. As the leader, it is Olivia s responsibility to manage this interdisciplinary team as they work to develop a critical pathway for these patients who have multiple complex needs. The main problem in this exercise is for Olivia to find a way to effectively communicate to all members of this team in an effort to provide these patients with the best possible care. It only seems natural since it has been a cultural norm for hundreds of years. There is even a scientific consensus that we are biologically compelled to find another mate. However inherent love is to us, marriage is an abstract notion conceptualized by human philosophy. It is humanity s effort to manifest the unification of two people and to be recognized by society. Unfortunately, it seems that we have to rethink the validity of marriage in the 21st century. Divorce plagues society today with the probability averaging out to fifty percent in the United States. The consequences of divorce generally devastate whole families, destroying financial life long accomplishments, and even spur us in deep states of depression sometimes leading to suicide. However conflicting marriage is with modernity, to older generations the institution of marriage is a necessity of life, but is not fair to men, and is often a disservice to our youths. As humans we seek the happiness through companionship. For prior generations, one way this was fulfilled was through marriage. It was a way of life in which an individual would share a household with their spouse and often times with their offspring. And of the almost 400,000 shoplifters detained and turned over to the police annually, the vast majority are not arrested partly because shoplifters often are not tried and sentenced. FINDINGS Shoplifting was not confined to specific gender, race, age, or social class. The typical shoplifter was, however, disproportionately young and female. Because they were young, they tended to be unmarried, unemployed, and less educated. As a group, they did not have extensive criminal records. Researchers found that the shoplifters who were arrested were neither more nor less likely as a group to commit future shoplifting offenses than were those who had been detained by store security personnel and released. The arrest rate for both groups over the six month period was about 10 percent. But arrest did have a significant deterrent effect on one important group juveniles. Of the 253 juveniles apprehended and turned over to the police for arrest, only four percent were rearrested for crimes other than shoplifting during the following six months. Of the 315 not turned over to the police, 10 percent were rearrested for crimes other than shoplifting. These findings challenge traditional assumptions that young people are more likely to repeat their criminal behavior than older people. In fact, the findings suggest that shoplifters under the age of 17 who are arrested are less than half as likely to repeat their behavior as those over age 17. Because it excited an intensity that indicates a rare concentration of power and cultural dominance, the Court was primarily responsible for the popularity of the poets who emerged from it. Sir Thomas Wyatt, one of a multitude of the so called Court poets of this time period, not only changed the way his society saw poetry through his adaptations of the Petrarchan Sonnet, but also obscurely attempted to recreate the culture norm through his influence. In addition to criticising Courtly love, Wyatt mocks the relationship of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn in his sonnet Whoso Lists to hunt. In the poem, Wyatt compares the fantasy of courtly love with hunters chasing after a hind. The hunters symbolise the courtiers while Anne Boleyn is the hunted hind. She grabbed for the baby s other arm. She caught the baby around the wrist and leaned back. But he would not let go. He felt the baby slipping out of his hands and he pulled back very hard. In this manner, the issue was decided. Here, the reader comes to the point of the story, that two people s own selfishness blinds them to the suffering they cause another. No matter, if you pay for a movie ticket, a D.V.D. or pay to stream it online, that payment goes to many different levels of people who help make the movie. The latest movement to attack the American society is movie pirating. In any city, it is easy to find individuals selling pirated copies of movies illegally. A great number of the worldÂŽs black market business is represented by pirated movies. The use and invention of the internet allowed for creation and expansion of downloading, sharing files and editing files. Pirates around the world used this innovation in technology to their advantage. Movie piracy has become a plague to the worldÂŽs economy because of the theft of over millions from the film industry. What an average person probably would not understand is that watching an illegal movie is not just some simple thing. The film industry, or the movie making business, supports well over 2.5 million of the worldÂŽs jobs. Which goes to say, the film industry holds a huge part of the nationÂŽs economy. The sale of movies and their proceeds leads to taxable revenue, taxable revenue that goes towards new roads, wages, development of advanced neighborhoods, schools, and bridges. Characteristics Of Airasia Competitive Strategy Competitive Strategy Based on Porter 5 Forces(1980) diagram to build four prominent business strategy, cost leadership, differentiation which can be combined to build the competitive strategy. Instead of the offering lower cost price, customer also considering the differentiation offered by AirAsia which they are willing to pay at any prices. Choosing the differentiation and characteristics of the products and service recommended or method in which it is delivered and developing organizational capabilities required to achieve the fundamental difference is a big challenge for companies (Mohammad Sunman Sarker. 2013). Red blood cells are normally round and easily move through blood vessels. However when a person has sickle cell anemia some of his or her red blood cells are sickle shaped, thus the name sickle cell anemia. Along with the sickle shape the red blood cells are rough and jagged and can often at times cause blood clots. Another name for this disorder is HBS disease. The disease happens when the deoxyribonucleic acid (or DNA for short) has a mutation. At some point during the life of every person there comes a moment when fear of the unknown takes over and life starts to look disconcerting and alarming. Even though we do not know how a collection of atoms miraculously formed from the entropy of the universe to create the first organisms on Earth just the thought of it is both astounding and befuddling. We as a society may never truly discover the origins of life or life before the universe but we have the ability as a society to look at the world and wonder how it all came to be and our purpose in life. • 51. Relationship Between Surface Area and Rate Of Reaction Essay An Experiment To Investigate The Relationship Between Surface Area and Rate Of Reaction Introduction The rate of reaction (reaction velocity) may be defined as the rate of change of concentration of a stated reactant or product. The rate of a reaction is found by measuring the amount of a reactant used up per unit of time or the amount of a product produced per unit of time. A reaction can be made to go faster or slower by changing a number of factors. In order for a reaction to occur certain things are necessary: particles must collide with each other and the collision must have enough energy for the reaction to occur. If this happens the original bonds are broken and new bonds are formed so that new products are formed. Successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also when a collision occurs they have more energy and so are more likely to be successful in breaking and reforming bonds than when they have less energy and are moving more slowly. Therefore the rate of the reaction will increase. As a rule of thumb when the temperature increases by 10C, the rate of the reaction roughly doubles. The concentration of the acid The more concentrated the solution, the more particles of reactant are present in a given volume and the greater the chance of a collision occurring. In dilute acids, with fewer particles the chance of collisions occurring is reduced. Therefore if concentration is increased, the reaction rate also increases. This also applies in reactions between two gases when increasing the pressure has the same effect as increasing the concentration. The presence of a catalyst A catalyst increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself being used up. Catalysts are usually transition metals. In the presence of a catalyst, less energy is needed by a collision in order to be successful. Therefore there are relatively more successful collisions and so the reaction rate increases. I have decided to investigate how a change in surface area will affect the rate of the reaction between calcium carbonate (marble chips) and hydrochloric acid. The word equation for this reaction is: Calcium + Hydrochloric Carbon + Water + Calcium Carbonate Acid Dioxide Chloride CaCO3(s) + 2HCL(aq) = CO2(G) + H2O(l) + ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
