Similarities Between Salem Witch Trials And Mccarthyism
McCarthyism and the Salem Witch Trials
McCarthyism and the Salem Witch Trials are notorious events in American History. Although they
weren t contemporary, it is undeniable that they are related. McCarthyism was from about 1950 to
1954, or when World War 2 had finished and the Cold War was heating up. There was anxiety in
countries all over the world and people were beginning to panic. First term senator from Wisconsin,
Joseph McCarthy, did nothing to comfort the nation. In February of 1950, Joseph McCarthy
presented a speech that claimed he had a list of 205 communists in the State Department
(History.com). Joseph McCarthy s egotistical action resulted in people losing trust in America s
government. President Dwight Eisenhower and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of McCarthy s second term as senator, he was put in charge of the Committee on
Government Operations, which permitted him to expand his investigation. Despite the absence of
proof of subversion, more than 2,000 government employees were jobless due to McCarthy s
conjecture (History.com). Not only did McCarthy s erratic actions cause complications in the
government, it ruined relations within the citizens. Trust was nonexistent and everything was
second guessed. Stress was more of a problem than before and the outcome was people were
hopeless. McCarthyism was one of the most muddled movements in American history, but it was
not the only movement that divided us from one another. The Salem Witch Trials were another
one of America s plights that triggered a parting in society. McCarthyism and the Salem Witch
Trials are undoubtedly alike in a couple ways. During both of these events, select actions were
intolerable. In the McCarthyism era, people were accused of subversion, or communist actions.
Being accused of subversion was looked at not much differently than being a terrorist. You were
put on trial which had the potential to land you in prison. In 1692, the time of the Salem Witch
Trials, people were accused

Panthera Leo Research Paper
Taxonomy
Introduction
The animal kingdom consists of about 800,000 known species (to include those that have been
proven to exist). All animals have multiple cells and therefore rely on the cells of other living or
dead organisms for their sustenance (growth and development). Animals develop from small groups
of unspecialized cells and the animals with simple cells grow their missing body parts through
regeneration. There are 36 phyla in the kingdom Animalia, for instance, Porifera, Annelida,
Mollusca, Arthropoda, Echinodermata and Chordata among others (Dudley, 2002). Pantheraleo
The African lion (Panthera leo), is a bold and admired species of the animal kingdom which
commands a lot of respect and fear in equal measure from human beings and wild animals alike. It
belongs to the phylum Chordata, class Mammalia, order Carnivora and family Felidae. African lions

Dimorphic males have dark manes that distinguish them easily from the females. Adult males
weigh up to 200kg while an average females weighs 120kg. The Panthera leo are polygamous and
they breed once every year. Statistics show that male lions are conspicuously large and they use
this advantage to dominate the pride of lions, which they have control over. Pride males form
coalitions in order to increase their chances of deposing an alpha male in another territory.
Succession battles are violent and bloody and may lead to serious injuries or death to the losers.
These hostile takeovers are precipitated by the need to pass individual genes to the next generation
of lions through the siring of cubs. As a result, the incumbent lion often takes unorthodox
precautions of eliminating the genes of the defeated lion through the killing of the suckling cubs of
their predecessors (Grinnel,

Politics And Politics In Aristophanes In The Frogs
Aristophanes in The Frogs satirizes politics and political leaders of Athens. During fifth century
there was direct democracy in Athens. The democratic government of Athens rested on three main
institutions, and a few others of lesser importance. The three pillars of democracy were: the
Assembly of the Demos, the Council of 500, and the People s Court. On the other hand, this is a
democracywithout equality. The Assembly is basically gathering of Athenian male citizens to vote
for law. At Athens politics was a kind of communication between the classes; for this reason the
primary political skill was rhetoric. Politics was carried on by constantreference from the few to the
many. The model Athenian political situation is a rhetorical contest... Show more content on

It explains why so many plays turn, like the Frogs, on a formal debate. The situation of the play
affects its internal constitution. As drama is analogous to politics, so the dramatic action is
assimilated to political action. For the Athenian audience, the fully expressive mode is competitive
debate.
The Frogs contains the largest number of references to the poet s function as an adviser. The world
of Aristophanes comedies is mainly one of fantasy, where free men carry private peaces in
wineskins or fly to Zeus on a dungbeetle, women take control of the state, and a slave rides down
to Hades on a donkey(18). But Aristophanes focus in The Frogs is on contemporary politics of
real world. The purpose of The Frogs is to bring reform in Athenian society by satirizing
contemporary politics and political leaders.
Aristophanes gave an advice in the parbasis of The Frogs. This teaching comes most frequently in
the parabasis, where the chorus sometimes speaks in the voice of the poet producer.
It is right and just for our sacred chorus to advise and teach what s good for the

The Music Of Stravinsky s First Ballet
The music of Stravinsky has always been ahead of time in the way of using new and different
ways of presenting music. His early ballets such as Firebird, Petrushka, and The Rite of Spring
being a great example of his modernism and will to compose music which is both innovative and
shocking. For this essay I have chosen to write about The Firebird(1910) and The Rite of Spring
(1913). Firebird was Stravinsky s first Ballet and his first composition that reached many people
because of its modernism and exoticism. The Rite of Spring is still renowned for its portrayal of
primitivism, a concept that was accentuated by the riot that happened at its premiere.
The reason why I have chosen to write about The Firebird is because it was Stravinsky s first ballet
and a milestone in modernist culture. Because of its modernist attributes, The Firebird became very
famous within ballet circles.
The reason why I have chosen to write about The Rite of Spring is because of the controversy that
surrounded it after its premiere. The ballet was so shocking to many of the audience members
because some of the concepts explored in it were so different and new to them.
The Firebird is based on the Russian legend of the firebird and is said to be a beautiful large red,
orange and yellow bird. In the ballet, it is played by a ballet dancer whose costume is that of a
half bird and half man. In the 1900s, ballet costumes tended o be very elegant, and often in pale
colours. However, when Alekandr

The Industrial Revolution Of The Iron Mill By Rebecca...
The industrial revolution was a time of invention, progress and opportunity. However, there was
also a darker side to it all. Rebecca Harding Davis, author of Life in the Iron Mills, tells the story
of ironworker Hugh Wolfe from a first person narrator s point of view. This unnamed narrator of
an unspecified gender is part of the more privileged class of society. This person resides in the
house that the two protagonists of the story, Hugh and Debora Wolfe, used to live in. The higher
ups of this time had one mindset: there were two worlds society consisted of. Those that had
money and were considered civilized , and the rest of the population, working tirelessly, hardly
considered humans. These upper class characters proposed this idea with a rational, persuasive
manner. Davis purpose was to show the reader how wrong this view was and expose the evils
within the industrial society while also promising a better future. I agree with her purpose, as today
s society sees the industrial revolutionas a very important piece to today s modern world. This is
true, and the industrial revolution had a huge impact on how our world operates and functions
today, but the darker side of this time period, working conditions, and morality are generally never
discussed. The story starts off with the narrator observing the people below from a window,
bustling around a middle class mill town. The narrator describes the poor quality of the town,
smoke from the factories filling the sky and

Decision Making Step
Decision Making Steps There are six steps typically associated with effective decision processes.
These six steps in the Managerial Decision Making Process are recognition of Decision
Requirement, Diagnosis and Analysis of Causes, Development of Alternatives, Selection of Desired
Alternative, Implementation of Chosen Alternative and Evaluation and Feedback.(Daft 1995) First
steps in the decision making steps are recognition of decision requirement. The ability to recognize
what is known is usually very important in the decision making steps. Therefore, during making
decision managers need to recognition problems and opportunity. This is because decision making

(5) redesign the work area to make it more pleasant, and (6) dismiss or retrain those supervisors
who are disliked by employees. Therefore, decision alternatives can be thought of as the tools for
reducing the difference between the organization s current and desired performance. In the steps 4
, once the alternative have beeen developed, one must be selected. This might seem to be an
obvious step after all, this is because managers have already determined what their best alternative
is. However, this best alternative will be based on the amount of information available to the
managers and by their imperfect judgement. In addition, the manager s goal is to make the choice
with the least amount of risk and uncertainty. Because some risk is inherent for most non
programmed decisions, managers try to gauge prospects for success. Under conditions of
uncertainly, they may have to relt on their intution and experience to estimate whether a given
course of action is likely to succeed. (Daft 1995) For example, let us assume our problem is the
low performance of sales department. We might believe that performance of sales would be most
conveniently increased if we dismissed the department supervisor. But our investigation discovers
that the supervisors is extremely important for

The Legacy Of The Abraham Lincoln
Republican Abraham Lincoln was elected president in November 1860, and would be
inaugurated on March 4, 1861. Tensions had been growing between southern slave states and
northern free states. Lincoln hailed from the Northern free state of Illinois, and made his anti
slavery views as he campaigned. Lincoln did not receive any votes from the southern states; his
name was not even on their ballots. All of the slave states were outraged when Lincoln was
elected, and feared he would abolish slavery. As a result, South Carolina seceded from the union
on December 20, 1860. This led many other southern states to consider seceding. 100 Mississippi
delegates gathered in Jackson, Mississippi for a convention to discuss secession. An ordinance
for secession was read aloud at the convention on January 9, 1861. Most of the delegates were in
favor of secession; however, there were a small group of men who did not want Mississippi to
secede. Three of these men each proposed one *amendment* to the ordinance in order to delay or
halt the secession of Mississippi from the union.
In the first proposal, proposed by Jacob Yerger, all the slave states would gather at a convention to
determine what amendments of the Constitution of the United States are necessary and proper to
secure the rights of the slaveholding States in the Union, and to finally settle and adjust all
questions relating to the subject of slavery in such manner as will relieve the South from the further
agitation of

Arts Is An Institution Of Higher Education
Wesleyan is an institution of higher education, and I would place education at the center of all fine
arts programming.
Many of us are aware of the transformative power of Arts performances and exhibits. I ll call this
arts enrichment. The Arts reach deeply into our unconscious minds and make an imprint beyond
where the written or spoken word can go. The Arts open minds to pluralistic thinking and banish
barriers between various groups within the human race without in your face politics or flag waving
sentimentality. With subtlety of expression, the Arts elevate us to our best selves, and our society
to both its cultural differences and oneness. But many of us know this.
Arts Education (capital E) is a noble pursuit to which I devote much of my life and career. Every
student needs the vocabulary, skills and perceptions gained by studying Art, Culture and the
Humanities. Too many people say, I took piano for a few years, but I quit, or I saw the movie, why
go out on a rainy night to see the play, unaware that music belongs to us all, art belongs to us all,
and a cathartic experience in a darkened theater makes us think, feel and become more human. Art
is as much a way for us to understand ourselves as knowing our history or understanding the laws
of physics. Art is not for artists and talented people, art is for us all, but some students may not see
the relevance of attending an art opening when final exams are looming.
Beyond arts enrichment and Arts Education, is the

Social Stratification According to Marx and Weber
Social stratification is the hierarchical arrangement of individuals into divisions of power and
wealth within a society. Social stratification relates to the socio economic concept of class,
consisting of the upper class, middle class, and lower class. Each class may be further subdivided
into smaller classes through the main indicator is occupation. This is the most practical and most
effective means of encompassing the wide variety of economic and social elements that go to make
up a person s class through their education, status, income and power. Evidence shows that wealth
is distributed unequally and that incomes vary from small to huge. The old idea of Britain s class
structure was comprised as a triangular shape; with increasing... Show more content on

However, this suggests that Britain s class structure is becoming fragmented.
On the other hand, Weberians suggests that the middle classis fragmented into competing status
groups for example, professionals and managers. Zweig (1961) argued that a section of the
working class has adopted the economic and cultural lifestyle of the middle class, the
embourgeoisement thesis. Since the 1960s, skilled manual workers have seen an improvement in
wages and better living standards, often exceeding those of some of the middle class. However,
despite big improvements in living standards and lifestyles, there are still differences that separate
affluent manual workers from the middle class which suggests that embourgeoisement has not
occurred. For example, their high wages were only obtained through overtime and shift working.
Also, lack fringe benefits and have limited promotion opportunities. This was shown in
Goldthorpe and Lockwood s famous study of a car factory in Luton (1969). However, they argue
that there was signs of convergence between working class and middle class lifestyles, but
concluded that, rather than an increase in the middle class, what had emerged was a new working
class. Therefore, shows that the working class have fragmented into at least two different ways,
firstly the traditional working class, in decline and typically situated in the North of England.
Secondly, a new working class found in the newer

The Bay Area Technology Boom Continues
Define the Problem
As the bay area technology boom continues, so has one of residents basic needs: the cost of
housing. According to U.S. Census data five of the top seven fastest growing counties in
California are in the bay area, with the fastest growing county being Alameda (2010). Since the
2010 census, it was estimated Alameda would add a little over 100,000 residents by August of
2014. With the increased population the cost of living has also increased, especially housing costs.
From January 2014 to January 2015, the average rent in Oakland increased by approximately 20
percent in a city struggling to deal with housing demands (Zillow, 2015).
The core cause of this problem stems from the issues of gentrification. The merriam webster
dictionary defines gentrification as the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the
influx of middle class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer
residents (2015). San Francisco has also seen increasing rents prices as median rent in the city
increased approximately 16 percent last year (Zillow, 2015). As rent prices also soar to record
highs in San Francisco residents have flocked to the east bay to try and find cheaper rents. Along
with the influx of new affluent residents come shops, stores and restaurants. A recent article in the
San Francisco Chronicle s food blog Inside Scoop named four new restaurants opening in Oakland

The Book Thhief By Sylvia Plath
Death is inevitable. Sylvia Plath, author of 1962 confessional poem, Lady Lazarus and Markus
Zusak author of 2005 historical fiction novel, The Book Thief explore the idea that a range
influences ultimately determine a person s final destiny. Zusak and Plath discuss this common idea
by utilising various literary techniques complementing the conventions of their respective text
types. Both authors highlight a range of key ideas such as, the idea that patriarchal standards within
society impact the protagonist s fate, the social influence relationships have on individuals and the
effect this has on their fate and the inevitable role death plays and the controlling influence death
has on life within their respective pieces.
Sylvia Plath and Markus Zusak both challenge the idea that patriarchal standards within society
influence the protagonist s fate in their texts. Sylvia Plath s Lady Lazarus is a reaction to the
oppressive nature of the patriarchy surrounding Plath during the early sixties. Lady Lazarus
reveals Plath s feelings of resentment in this semi autobiographical poem that grew from her
feeling trapped in a cyclical and oppressive environment. Plath employs allusion to the biblical tale
of Lazarus where she describes a, grave cave where she felt, at home. This captures Plath s
resentment towards the patriarchy as she feels that if she does not succumb to her desire to commit
suicide and thus control her fate, she will have to conform to the patriarchal

Summary Of The Political Allegory In Macbeth
William Shakespeare s Macbeth is widely thought to be written in 1606. Three years after the
ascension of James VI of Scotland to the English Throne as James I and some months after the
discovery of the Gunpowder Plot, although the exact date remains impossible to establish. The
turmoil of the era can be attributed to the civil unrest. The narrative acts almost as a instrument to
subjugate an unruly citizenship by purging negative emotions such as anger, fear or anxiety. The
Jacobean era was defined by its conflict not only between two warring ideologies but by opposing
political stances. Unionist and nationalist stood against each other in opposition to the change of
power dynamics, religious upheaval caused Englandto be further divided. Shakespeare s use of
catharsis acts as a balm providing the proper purgation of negative emotion and therefore supressing
real rebellion in James rule.
Lauded as the most instructive tragedy in the world Macbeth follows the typical five act structure
of the era, exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and dГ©nouement. The familiarity of
this structure would have clearly reinforced for a contemporary audience that Macbeth would
face his inevitable downfall in the final fifth act. His fall from the seat of power echoes the
traditional belief in the great chain of being and the divine right of kings. As a political allegory,
Macbeth in part serves as a warning to potential despots. As critic Stephen Greenblatt has
observed, There is always someone who escapes the murderer s net, someone who poses a threat
seeks to redress an injury or simply remembers what it felt like to be free and unafraid. Macbeth is
more interested in power than in loyalty. In each subsequent act, we find that Lord Acton s
observation: Absolute power corrupts absolutely is true. Macbeth eventually will stop at nothing
not even his own beheading, to hold on to power:
I will not yield
To kiss the ground before young Malcolm s feet,
And to be baited with the rabble s curse...
I will try the last.
The Scottish play is without doubt an allegorical tool, but it can be viewed from many differing
perspectives for example while the narrative can be viewed as a political statement it could

Critical Analysis Of Allen Ginsberg s Howl
The Beat Generation is a literary movement during the 1950s that consisted of male authors
including the widely known Allen Ginsberg, who explored American culture in their poems. The
Beat Generation could be described as misogynistic and patriarchal due to their exclusion of women
and concerns confined to only male outcasts. In Allen Ginsbergs 1956 Howl, he brings his audience
s attention to male outcasts in society. In her 2015 Howl , a critical response to Ginsberg s Howl ,
Amy Newman explores the oppression outcasted women endure in a male dominated culture
through the allusions of an admired female poet, Ginsberg s original stanza form, and utilizing
diction to convey a woman s perspective antithetically to Allen Ginsberg s original.
In Amy Newman s Howl , she alludes to Sylvia Plath, an American female poet, who is
acknowledged for her hardships as a outcasted female in the poetry world due to her oppressive
marriage. Newman illustrates Plath as, [a] star spangled lost in her housebound Eden curse with
orchards and a million gossipy daffodils, writing and nursing and not on the lists... (Newman). In
Allen Ginsberg s original Howl he adverts to male poets he admires of his time, opposingly
Newman emulates Ginsberg s technique and alludes to a feminist iconic poet Sylvia Plath.
Newman implements a biblical allusion referencing The Garden of Eden to depict Plath as a

Bend It Like Beckham Movie Analysis
Bend it like Beckham is a movie that came out in the United States on August 1st, 2003. This
movie expresses the concept of marrying traditions to the world we leave in. Dreams are the
colors on your palette that helps you paint on life s canvas. They create goals to be reach, while
giving hope for better days. Religion is what keeps people grounded and secure. It can also unite
groups of people with the same ideology. Bend It Like Beckham demonstrates the differences
between western and eastern cultural behavior. We often forget that traditions are sedentary; they
create a struggle when trying to integrate ourselves into a community that is not your own. Can our
dream triumph, when we have religion as an adversary? Jessminder Jess ... Show more content on

To the Snake by Denise Leverto
In the poem #8220;To the Snake #8221; the author Denise Levertov use several writing techniques
to portray money and gambling. She uses syntax, sound imagery, color imagery, figurative
language, and symbolism to represent money and gambling. Symbolism is used cleverly throughout
the poem to depict a number of things that would take numerous readings to see. Throughout the
poem the sentences are structured so that every other sentence is indented, with exception to the
first two and the last four. In those sentences not indented the author chose to make every other
sentence shorter so that the ends were uneven. This syntax structure gives the reader the feeling of
something hard to catch or control. The author did this because money,... Show more content on

The last bit of symbolism comes in the last part of the poem where it says, #8220; #8230;as the
leaves moved and you faded into the pattern of grass and shadows, and I returned smiling and
haunted, to a dark morning. #8221; The leaves moving are symbolic of time passing. As the
seasons change the leaves always go through some kind of change which is why the leader is led
to believe that the leaves represent some portion of time, which could be great or small. The word
fading says to the reader that the money the speaker has gained in gambling is now all gone. The
idea that it faded into the pattern of grass and shadows makes the reader think that the speaker is
going to gamble again and start the cycle over. First lets look at the grass. Grass when cut grows
back every time, under normal conditions. This applied to the gambler means that each time the
money gets short the speaker is going to gamble again to get more money or make their cash
supply grow just like grass. The same principle applies with shadows. The sun comes up and the
shadows began to form. As the sun goes down the shadows leave. This constant growing and
decreasing cycle can once again be applied to the speaker either losing or all their money and then
regaining it by gambling. The part, which discusses how the speaker returns smiling and haunted,
refers to the speaker facing his/her friends. The speaker

The Causes Of Cognitive Dissonance In The Television...
Cognitive Dissonance Theory
How do you make it go away? You don t like the way you are feeling, something in your gut is
nagging at you with an overwhelming cloud of uneasiness. Suddenly, it dawns on you that this
uncomfortable sensation is the direct result of a decision you ve recently made. Unaligned with
your beliefs and morals, that decision has left you internally conflicted. Your mindraces for avenues
to ease your suffering. What will you do next? This is the same scenario that Margaret Langston is
battling in season two from the television series Resurrection. As a well respected woman in the
community, Margaret has agreed to assist the neighborhood mob in the prevention of a child being
born in their town. As events unfold and the plot thickens Margaret attempts various methods to
evade the distress of cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance refers to a situation involving
conflicting attitudes, beliefs, or behaviors. This produces a feeling of discomfort leading to an
alteration in one of the attitudes, beliefs or behaviors to reduce the discomfort and restore balance
(McLeod, 2014, Introduction). As a reaction to emotional discomfort, our human nature seeks to
restore equilibrium producing a consonant relationship that dissolves the negative emotional state
of cognitive dissonance.

Effects Of You Drill, You Spill
You Drill, You Spill
If you ve ever enjoyed a long walk on the beach, or a steaming plate of crab legs, then you have
the Gulf of Mexico to thank for that. So much of our economy and ecosystem here in Florida, is
reliant on the gulf. However, for being such an important part of our lives we haven t been
treating it very nicely as of late. We have built ugly oil rigs smack in the middle of it, drilled
deep holes right through its core, and worst of all spilled gallons of oil into its pristine waters.
Oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico has caused lifelong damage to our environment, and has had a
drastic impact on our economy. If we don t put an end to this, things will only continue to get
worse. While we all enjoy the reaping the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It harmed the development of larger fish such as mahi mahi and reduced the number of juvenile
Bluefin tuna by 20 percent. (Amadeo 1) With fish populations so far down, local fisherman were
bringing in less and less fish to sell, causing less money to be circulated into the economy. Not to
mention the impacts this had on Florida s tourism. Many people and small businesses reply on
the thousands of people that flock to our beaches each year. With most of our beaches covered in
oil residue, many beaches were closed to the public for health reasons. With Florida s main tourist
attraction closed for business, the number of tourists visiting dropped drastically. In 2016 BP paid
$917 million in claims to businesses along the gulf coast. (Amadeo 1) In 2010 the percentage
reductions in hotel occupancy rates between Pensacola and Panama City was 30% (Dorgan 1).
Some may argue that drilling for oil in the gulf has more pros than it does cons. Producing oil
domestically would mean relying less on importing oil, boosting locally and federal economies.
This would also mean a large increase in job opportunities. By halting the production of oil in the
gulf an estimates 23,000 jobs were lost in 2010 alone (George 1). By increasing the amount of oil
rigs in the gulf the number of jobs gained could be double this. However, in the event of another

Improvalizing The Song Anything Goes By Ella Fitzgerald
Anything Goes Topic 2
In the song Anything Goes performed by vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, the band plays without vocals
around one minute and fifty four seconds. The band is improvising because it is a new melody
playing over the original chord progression. The aspects of the music that helped me determine
this was because when it switched to the band solo, I could hear the original tune of the song and
could sing along as if the vocalist was still singing, even though there was a new melody.
Improvising in jazz has a slightly different meaning than how most people use it today. Before
taking this course, I would ve thought that improvising was to perform something spontaneously.
Whereas in jazz, although it still is somewhat spontaneous,

local residents, business interests, and members of the Planning Commission and Town Council to
guide a new vision for the long term growth and development of the community. This effort was in
response to pending growth pressures, for which the community was not fully prepared. After some
months and considerable community input, the Planning Commission recommended and the Town
Council adopted the Town of New Castle Comprehensive Plan on May 27, 2009.
Prior to the adoption of the Plan, the National and local economies were strong. As a result, New
Castle had begun to experience significant change. The intent of the Plan was to establish a path for
community growth that, while accommodating new housing, businesses, services, jobs, parks/open
spaces, non motorized access systems, transportation, environmental protection and community
infrastructure, would ensure that growth and change would not adversely the small town character
and community values that residents wanted to preserve.
As the community planning process neared its conclusion, the National economy began to
experience a slow down, which in time became significant. Growth and development in the Roaring

Material And The Design Of Football Helmets Essay
Material Use in the Design of Football Helmets: Importance of helmets in concussion Prevention
By: Luc E. Desroches 5/7/15 Introduction American football has been around for over one
hundred years, and along with the sport has been the need to provide proper safety for the players.
An assortment of padding has been instituted in the game that protects against most blunt trauma
including blows to the shoulders, mid section, and legs. In an attempt to prevent fracture of the
skull, helmets were designed. However, studies have shown that helmets do little to nothing to
prevent concussive damage to the brain. A polycarbonate shell is used as the outer housing for
regulation football helmets, but along with this material, the materials used on the inside of the
helmet are just as, if not more, important. The purpose of this report is to analyze the materials
used in current football helmet design and the improvements being made in the field of materials
science in order to combat the severe number of concussions suffered by NFL players.
Concussions There is a large amount of ambiguity when diagnosing concussions. Since there is no
definitive test that can be run on the brain while a person is alive to determine if they have
suffered a concussion, recording an accurate number of concussions is difficult in the NFL or any
sport for that matter. A concussion, in the simplest terms, is a jarring of the brain that is caused by
a blow to the head or body. Traditional thinking led

Pyramus Thisbe vs. Romeo Juliet
Tragic love stories have always been appealing to the literary world. This would be seen in Ovid
s Pyramus and Thisbe and William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet . Ovid, one of Rome s
greatest poets, was famous for The Metamorphoses. His love stories were deeply emotional, yet
very tragic. The story of Pyramus and Thisbe is the most emotional story in The Metamorphoses
and the most referenced in love tragedy. William Shakespeares best plays were his tragedies,
starting with Hamlet all the way through to Macbeth. No one knows exactly which source
Shakespeare directly drew from to create the well known tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet , but
it s pretty clear that somewhere along the way there was some major influence from Pyramus and
Thisbe. Both stories, although written in different era share one key theme: love and tragedy. We
fall in love and when once we do something rare and beautiful is created. Unfortunately not all
love stories have happy endings. The lesson learned in both Pyramus and Thisbe and Romeo and
Juliet stories will be the focus of this essay.
Pyramus and Thisbe were lovers whose houses side by side to each other. They were considered
so beautiful that If you searched all the East, you d find no girl with greater charm than Thisbe;
and no boy in Babylon was handsomer than Pyramus (Ovid 111). Overtime from living

Victoria Aveyard s Red Queen
In the book, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, Mare s world is run by people of silver blood with
the people of red blood bowing down to their every word. Mare is forced into royalty and must act

build character and helps the readers understand the story. Two details that help readers understand
the story are similes and the point of view.
The first technique in Red Queen was similes. Victoria Aveyard writes The laugh escapes me like

to picture the book as a movie in their head. Victoria Aveyard did this because she wanted to help

Aveyard purposely chose the story to be in the first person point of view to allow the readers to
recognize the strong emotions the main character, Mare, has felt during the novel. Victoria
Aveyard writes, I want them to be found. I want them in front of me with a blade at their backs,
and I want them to sing like the cowardly birds they are. (Aveyard 245) Since Red Queen is in
first person point of view, anyone who was to read or hear this sentence would be scared,
especially since it was directed at the narrator. When a book is in first person point of view, the
reader feels like they are inside the book, like they are living and traveling in a different
dimension with people they know better than their own family. The author also writes, The worst
has happened already. We have lost. (Aveyard 329) The author wrote this because she wanted the
readers to understand how Mare is feeling since everyone knows what it s like to fail something.

Pharynx Research Paper
We do not consciously think about how all the sounds we render when we speak are the result of
our muscles contracting. The muscles in the chest for breathing and the muscles in the larynx
produce several different modifications in the flow of air from the chest to the mouth. Afterwards,
passing through the larynx the air goes through the vocal tract which ends at the mouth and
nostrils. The air from the lungs escapes into the atmosphere making sounds. Hence, when we
transform the shape of the vocal tract we can alter the sound. The pharynx is a tube which begins
just above the larynx and it is nearly 7 cm long in women and around 8 cm in men, and at the top
end it is divided into two, one part being the back of the mouth and the other being the beginning
of the way through the nasal cavity (Culbertson Tanner, 2011). The pharynx is the focal point for
articulation as it is a resonating cavity. Furthermore, there are numerous fixed articulators such as
the incisors, alveolar ridge, and the hard palate. The incisors are four teeth known as the incisors
they emanated from the premaxilla bone process. The upper incisors are the furthermost anterior.
Likewise, the alveolar ridge is located... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

from the oropharynx and nasopharynx making the air create a resonating sound from the nasal
cavity (Culbertson Tanner, 2011). Subsequently, during speech, it raises so that air cannot escape
through the nose and instead resonates in the nasal cavity. The main function of the velum is to
create nasal phonemes. It cannot be touched by the tongue to oblige sounds for instance k and g we

can be said for certain about the Bermuda Triangle. There were many lives lost within the

The treatment philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is that of a 12 step program,
additionally, the group caters to individuals who are recovering, or trying to recover from
alcoholism. This group only focuses on alcohol abuse/misuse and not any other types of addiction.
The 12 step program used by AA uses a person s spirituality to focus their attention on their
higher power and how they might draw strength from it. In the meeting that I attended, the
participants concentrated on the first two steps of the 12 step program. The first step, admitting
that the person is/was powerless over alcohol, opened my eyes due to the fact that I always had
thought that the first step was admitting you have a problem. Although, they come to the same
conclusion, the word powerless struck a chord because being powerless can leave you feeling
worthless and weak. The second step, believing that a power greater than yourself will restore
you to sanity, I feel was the absolute focus of this meeting. The participants read prayers and
meditation passages before the meeting really got underway. I looked around at the faces in the
room and I saw peace and acceptance on most faces when they were praying to their God to give
them strength to abstain from alcohol for the day.

ground to get rid of impurities. After this it is pumped into storage tanks and carried around the

Inside that dome is a screen that projects into the user s eyes, creating a world in which they can

many. Because this device so new, it has yet to catch on with the general masses, leading many to
think that this will not be the next big thing. Many believe the tech to be just another fad that will

The team just wanted to bounce a few ideas off of them, but Ben thought it was a formal meeting
that he had to be present and a part of. The team was angry because Ben was so aggressive. They
just needed to be reminded that IFG had certain protocols they needed to follow. Josh s team
also struggled with coming up with the costs and benefits of their proposed work for Sheema
(McKeen et al., 2012). They wouldn t be aware of the fiscal cost until they knew exactly what
they were capable of. It would be difficult for his team to outline their budget, but they could come
up with an approximate estimate of their costs and benefits for Sheema. They could sit down with
her and explain the possible worth of their proposed ideas, so she would not be bothering them
during their process.
How can Josh win support for his team s three point plan to use technology to help IFG reach its
customers? When Josh and his team was finally ready for his presentation, it was picked apart by
the IT office. They exploited every hole in his three point plan. Sheema was concerned about the
business values of the initiatives. Ben needed a clear commitment on the benefits. John was
worried about bad reviews by customers. Rick had a security concern about the cloud. In order to
win their support for his team s three point plan, Josh needs to slow roll his

Essay On Gun Control Should Be Allowed In Public Places
Research Paper
Should firearms be allowed in public places? This is an issue that has become more and more
relevant as days pass. I m a believer of gun control, but gun control doesn t mean no guns. Any
person that has a gun in their household, for whatever reason it may be including protecting your
family, hunting, or your hobby is gun collection, there must be rules and guidelines to follow, so
there will be no accidents.
As much as I am a firm believer in gun control, I am just as much a firm believer as the right to
bear arms, which is the second amendment. Not all violent crimes are caused by a gun. You hear
of many violent crimes when the victim is hurt or even killed by different ways including the
estranged person s own hands. Like anything else, a gun can always get into the wrong hands.
Therefore, I believe that background checks and a waiting period are necessary before
purchasing a gun. This alone cannot keep guns out of the hands of the wrong person, but it will
eliminate many violent crimes which may have occurred. Some people disapprove of these laws,
but I believe they are a good start from keeping guns out of the hands of ... Show more content on

There have been many school tragedies in the past couple of years in which a gun was involved.
It seems that in every incident, the person had real problems and was most likely never taught
the right and wrongs of a gun. So therefore, I believe in the society we live in today, we should
have some kind of protection in our schools. Metal detectors, locker checks, or any other rules
should be in every school and public places where felt necessary. It s just like a roadblock, if you
don t have anything to hide, you shouldn t mind if they stop you. They may just protect us from the
next bad person who may have nothing but killing on their

Understanding Schizophrenia and Psychosis
Schizophrenia and Psychotherapy Schizophrenia is a psychiatric disorder differentiated by
degeneration of thought processes and of emotional reaction. It is characterized by auditory
hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized speech and thought process along with considerable
social or occupational dysfunction. Onset of symptoms is usually during early adulthood.
Diagnosis is based on DSM IV criteria for diagnosis of Schizophrenia (PubMed, 2010). It mainly
affects the cognition but behavior and emotion can also be involved. Schizophrenics can have
certain coexisting conditions such as major depression and anxiety disorders. These cognitive,
emotional and behavioral problems can lead to secondary problems like unemployment, academic
difficulties and social issues. Schizophrenics have higher tendency to suicide than general
population which makes their life expectancy 15 years less than the general population. The
average life expectancy of people with the disorder is 12 to 15 years less than those without, the
result of increased physical health problems and a higher suicide rate (about 5%). Following are the
classification of Schizophrenia according to DSM IV Manual Paranoid type: delusions,
hallucinations without affecting the thought behavior, and cognition. (DSM code 295.3/ICD code
F20.0) Disorganized type: Though disorder and flat affect (DSM code 295.1/ICD code F20.1)
Catatonic type: Agitated, purposeless movements, occasional immobility, catatonic stupor

William Chaucer s The Friar s Tale
Society has always judged a person on his level of morality. This level of judgment has been
evident since the immoral acts of Adam and Eve were committed. Some of these acts are
dishonesty, adultery, and ignorance. The Friar s Tale makes these moral issues clear through
various characters. The summoner and the Devilboth show dishonesty, abuse of power, and
mercilessness. In this short story, Chaucer illustrates the theme of immorality and how it affects the
character of all the persons in the tale.
.Characters display dishonesty in The Friar s Tale . The summoner steals the money that he collects
from peasants. Chaucer illustrates this act of immorality when he says,
Now truly...so do I. I never spare to take a thing, knows God, unless it be too heavy or too hot.
What I get for myself, and privately, no kind of conscience for such things have I .
(170 174).
The summoner is being dishonest to the people that he collects from by not telling him that he
keeps the money. The summoner admits to the Devil that he steals. The summoner also says that he
has no conscience. Therefore he can not be kept from evil.
(Gray 115)
Bowden addresses the summoner s immorality when he states,
Fact and fiction both condemn him as especially licentious and dishonest. He also mentions how
Gower writes of him as pretending to be poor but, in actuality, as being as rich as a king
(Bowden 55).
Stealing is immoral, and Bowden reinforces that the summoner is immoral and steals beyond need.

The World A More Eco Friendly Environment
The society we live in today, has made efforts to make the world a more eco friendly environment.
For the most part, different industries have made a push to better the ecosystem. The oil industry
developed a clean fuel refinery, a design to eliminate or minimize solid waste. The automotive
industry has promoted cars that are fueled by power instead of gas, to decrease pollution, and the
manufacturing industry has gone green by developing new equipment that uses less energy. It is
almost as if going green has become trendy . Our society made it clear to corporate America that
living in a more environmentally sound world was important to them. In 2014 it was noted that an
estimated 17 to 20% of water contamination came from areas of the fashion industry, and that the
fashion industry, is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world. Who would have thought that the
clothes we wear had such a colossal impact on the environmentthat surrounds us? However, just
like the oil, automotive and manufacturing industry, the apparel industry is continuing to make
progress in creating greener fashion. Social responsibilityis the concept that drives industry s steps
towards a healthier environment. It is the ethical frame work that proposes that an organization
needs to be accountable for any action that affects society at large. It is the responsibility that
individuals have to preserve the balance between an ecosystem and the economy. On the contrary,
the fashion industry has

Alvin s metal easel gives you peace of mind while you re working. It lets you add meticulous
details to your painting. It allows you to work peacefully without unintentional wobble. Have you
ever struggled with a shoddy easel? We have! When it s a little breezy, light winds topple your
paintings. Mid size and large canvases won t stay put, and you re forced to angle them against the
wall. When you re trying to finish your masterpiece, you have to hold the easel with one hand and
paint with the other. These are the burdens a substandard telescoping easel afflicts you with.
Alvin s laboratory tested aluminum easel is different. The finely crafted pivoting feet stabilize this
telescoping easel on uneven ground. Their spring loaded, locking canvas support seals your
artwork in position. Your canvases are safer with their robust rectangular profile frame. They have
not one, but two sets of shelf brackets that fit more canvases and pad sizes. Moreover, their
reinforced 17.5 inch canvas shelf includes a panel groove that grips all types of canvases.

Reflection Paper On Jerseys
I have met many NFL players when I went to summer camp at Mount Vernon Presbyterian
school. I am telling you about when I got a jersey signed by Prince Amukamara. It was a nice
summer day at New Era football camp.Where many players like Thomas, Vic Beasley, Ray Rice,
AJ, and of course Prince train and play with kids.Every morning you would walk down the stairs
and wait on the field until the players were ready.Today they announced that New York Giants
cornerback Prince Amukamara has come with 5 blue and white authentic NFL jerseys that were
signed and ready to give away.I am a Giants fan and I really wanted to meet Prince Amukamara.
Every day you would get different schedules based on your age.I examined the schedule that the
Atlanta Falcons outside linebacker Vic Beasley gave me. I realized that Prince Amukamara was
my last station.I wondered if he would still have any jerseys towards the end of the day. They
told us to stand in lines based on our age.I was excited to go to the first station because it was
running back drills with Ray Rice. Ray plays for the Baltimore Ravens and went to Rutgers
University. When I registered for this camp I got to pick a hat of any NFL team.Of course, I chose
the Giants, but I decided to get it signed by any player, not just Giants players.I allowed Ray sign
my hat and we moved on to the next station. My next station was wide receiver drills with
Demaryius Thomas.Demaryius went to the Georgia Tech Institute of Technology. He plays for the

Although they weren t contemporary, it is undeniable that they are related. McCarthyism was from about 1950 to 1954, or when World War 2 had finished and the Cold War was heating up. There was anxiety in countries all over the world and people were beginning to panic. First term senator from Wisconsin, Joseph McCarthy, did nothing to comfort the nation. In February of 1950, Joseph McCarthy presented a speech that claimed he had a list of 205 communists in the State Department (History.com). At the beginning of McCarthy s second term as senator, he was put in charge of the Committee on Government Operations, which permitted him to expand his investigation. Despite the absence of proof of subversion, more than 2,000 government employees were jobless due to McCarthy s conjecture (History.com). Not only did McCarthy s erratic actions cause complications in the government, it ruined relations within the citizens. Trust was nonexistent and everything was second guessed. Stress was more of a problem than before and the outcome was people were hopeless. McCarthyism was one of the most muddled movements in American history, but it was not the only movement that divided us from one another. The Salem Witch Trials were another one of America s plights that triggered a parting in society. McCarthyism and the Salem Witch Trials are undoubtedly alike in a couple ways. During both of these events, select actions were intolerable. In the McCarthyism era, people were accused of subversion, or communist actions. Being accused of subversion was looked at not much differently than being a terrorist. You were put on trial which had the potential to land you in prison. All animals have multiple cells and therefore rely on the cells of other living or dead organisms for their sustenance (growth and development). Animals develop from small groups of unspecialized cells and the animals with simple cells grow their missing body parts through regeneration. There are 36 phyla in the kingdom Animalia, for instance, Porifera, Annelida, Mollusca, Arthropoda, Echinodermata and Chordata among others (Dudley, 2002). Pantheraleo The African lion (Panthera leo), is a bold and admired species of the animal kingdom which commands a lot of respect and fear in equal measure from human beings and wild animals alike. It belongs to the phylum Chordata, class Mammalia, order Carnivora and family Felidae. African lions live in sub Saharan Africa where there are savanna grasslands that play host to a variety of ... Pride males form coalitions in order to increase their chances of deposing an alpha male in another territory. The Assembly is basically gathering of Athenian male citizens to vote for law. At Athens politics was a kind of communication between the classes; for this reason the primary political skill was rhetoric. Politics was carried on by constantreference from the few to the many. The situation of the play affects its internal constitution. As drama is analogous to politics, so the dramatic action is assimilated to political action. For the Athenian audience, the fully expressive mode is competitive debate. The Frogs contains the largest number of references to the poet s function as an adviser. The world of Aristophanes comedies is mainly one of fantasy, where free men carry private peaces in wineskins or fly to Zeus on a dungbeetle, women take control of the state, and a slave rides down to Hades on a donkey(18). But Aristophanes focus in The Frogs is on contemporary politics of real world. The purpose of The Frogs is to bring reform in Athenian society by satirizing contemporary politics and political leaders. Aristophanes gave an advice in the parbasis of The Frogs. • 7. The Music Of Stravinsky s First Ballet The music of Stravinsky has always been ahead of time in the way of using new and different ways of presenting music. His early ballets such as Firebird, Petrushka, and The Rite of Spring being a great example of his modernism and will to compose music which is both innovative and shocking. For this essay I have chosen to write about The Firebird(1910) and The Rite of Spring (1913). Firebird was Stravinsky s first Ballet and his first composition that reached many people because of its modernism and exoticism. The Rite of Spring is still renowned for its portrayal of primitivism, a concept that was accentuated by the riot that happened at its premiere. The reason why I have chosen to write about The Firebird is because it was Stravinsky s first ballet and a milestone in modernist culture. Because of its modernist attributes, The Firebird became very famous within ballet circles. The reason why I have chosen to write about The Rite of Spring is because of the controversy that surrounded it after its premiere. The ballet was so shocking to many of the audience members because some of the concepts explored in it were so different and new to them. The Firebird is based on the Russian legend of the firebird and is said to be a beautiful large red, orange and yellow bird. In the ballet, it is played by a ballet dancer whose costume is that of a half bird and half man. In the 1900s, ballet costumes tended o be very elegant, and often in pale colours. • 8. The Industrial Revolution Of The Iron Mill By Rebecca... The industrial revolution was a time of invention, progress and opportunity. However, there was also a darker side to it all. Rebecca Harding Davis, author of Life in the Iron Mills, tells the story of ironworker Hugh Wolfe from a first person narrator s point of view. This unnamed narrator of an unspecified gender is part of the more privileged class of society. This person resides in the house that the two protagonists of the story, Hugh and Debora Wolfe, used to live in. The higher ups of this time had one mindset: there were two worlds society consisted of. Those that had money and were considered civilized , and the rest of the population, working tirelessly, hardly considered humans. These upper class characters proposed this idea with a rational, persuasive manner. Davis purpose was to show the reader how wrong this view was and expose the evils within the industrial society while also promising a better future. I agree with her purpose, as today s society sees the industrial revolutionas a very important piece to today s modern world. This is true, and the industrial revolution had a huge impact on how our world operates and functions today, but the darker side of this time period, working conditions, and morality are generally never discussed. The story starts off with the narrator observing the people below from a window, bustling around a middle class mill town. • 10. The Legacy Of The Abraham Lincoln Republican Abraham Lincoln was elected president in November 1860, and would be inaugurated on March 4, 1861. Tensions had been growing between southern slave states and northern free states. Lincoln hailed from the Northern free state of Illinois, and made his anti slavery views as he campaigned. Lincoln did not receive any votes from the southern states; his name was not even on their ballots. All of the slave states were outraged when Lincoln was elected, and feared he would abolish slavery. As a result, South Carolina seceded from the union on December 20, 1860. This led many other southern states to consider seceding. 100 Mississippi delegates gathered in Jackson, Mississippi for a convention to discuss secession. An ordinance for secession was read aloud at the convention on January 9, 1861. Most of the delegates were in favor of secession; however, there were a small group of men who did not want Mississippi to secede. Three of these men each proposed one *amendment* to the ordinance in order to delay or halt the secession of Mississippi from the union. In the first proposal, proposed by Jacob Yerger, all the slave states would gather at a convention to determine what amendments of the Constitution of the United States are necessary and proper to secure the rights of the slaveholding States in the Union, and to finally settle and adjust all questions relating to the subject of slavery in such manner as will relieve the South from the further agitation of ... • 11. Arts Is An Institution Of Higher Education Wesleyan is an institution of higher education, and I would place education at the center of all fine arts programming. Many of us are aware of the transformative power of Arts performances and exhibits. I ll call this arts enrichment. The Arts reach deeply into our unconscious minds and make an imprint beyond where the written or spoken word can go. The Arts open minds to pluralistic thinking and banish barriers between various groups within the human race without in your face politics or flag waving sentimentality. With subtlety of expression, the Arts elevate us to our best selves, and our society to both its cultural differences and oneness. But many of us know this. Arts Education (capital E) is a noble pursuit to which I devote much of my life and career. Every student needs the vocabulary, skills and perceptions gained by studying Art, Culture and the Humanities. Too many people say, I took piano for a few years, but I quit, or I saw the movie, why go out on a rainy night to see the play, unaware that music belongs to us all, art belongs to us all, and a cathartic experience in a darkened theater makes us think, feel and become more human. Art is as much a way for us to understand ourselves as knowing our history or understanding the laws of physics. Art is not for artists and talented people, art is for us all, but some students may not see the relevance of attending an art opening when final exams are looming. Social stratification relates to the socio economic concept of class, consisting of the upper class, middle class, and lower class. Each class may be further subdivided into smaller classes through the main indicator is occupation. This is the most practical and most effective means of encompassing the wide variety of economic and social elements that go to make up a person s class through their education, status, income and power. Evidence shows that wealth is distributed unequally and that incomes vary from small to huge. The old idea of Britain s class structure was comprised as a triangular shape; with increasing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this suggests that Britain s class structure is becoming fragmented. On the other hand, Weberians suggests that the middle classis fragmented into competing status groups for example, professionals and managers. Zweig (1961) argued that a section of the working class has adopted the economic and cultural lifestyle of the middle class, the embourgeoisement thesis. Since the 1960s, skilled manual workers have seen an improvement in wages and better living standards, often exceeding those of some of the middle class. However, despite big improvements in living standards and lifestyles, there are still differences that separate affluent manual workers from the middle class which suggests that embourgeoisement has not occurred. For example, their high wages were only obtained through overtime and shift working. Also, lack fringe benefits and have limited promotion opportunities. This was shown in Goldthorpe and Lockwood s famous study of a car factory in Luton (1969). However, they argue that there was signs of convergence between working class and middle class lifestyles, but concluded that, rather than an increase in the middle class, what had emerged was a new working class. Therefore, shows that the working class have fragmented into at least two different ways, firstly the traditional working class, in decline and typically situated in the North of England. According to U.S. Census data five of the top seven fastest growing counties in California are in the bay area, with the fastest growing county being Alameda (2010). Since the 2010 census, it was estimated Alameda would add a little over 100,000 residents by August of 2014. With the increased population the cost of living has also increased, especially housing costs. From January 2014 to January 2015, the average rent in Oakland increased by approximately 20 percent in a city struggling to deal with housing demands (Zillow, 2015). The core cause of this problem stems from the issues of gentrification. The merriam webster dictionary defines gentrification as the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents (2015). San Francisco has also seen increasing rents prices as median rent in the city increased approximately 16 percent last year (Zillow, 2015). Sylvia Plath, author of 1962 confessional poem, Lady Lazarus and Markus Zusak author of 2005 historical fiction novel, The Book Thief explore the idea that a range influences ultimately determine a person s final destiny. Zusak and Plath discuss this common idea by utilising various literary techniques complementing the conventions of their respective text types. Both authors highlight a range of key ideas such as, the idea that patriarchal standards within society impact the protagonist s fate, the social influence relationships have on individuals and the effect this has on their fate and the inevitable role death plays and the controlling influence death has on life within their respective pieces. Sylvia Plath and Markus Zusak both challenge the idea that patriarchal standards within society influence the protagonist s fate in their texts. Sylvia Plath s Lady Lazarus is a reaction to the oppressive nature of the patriarchy surrounding Plath during the early sixties. Lady Lazarus reveals Plath s feelings of resentment in this semi autobiographical poem that grew from her feeling trapped in a cyclical and oppressive environment. Plath employs allusion to the biblical tale of Lazarus where she describes a, grave cave where she felt, at home. This captures Plath s resentment towards the patriarchy as she feels that if she does not succumb to her desire to commit suicide and thus control her fate, she will have to conform to the patriarchal ... • 19. Summary Of The Political Allegory In Macbeth William Shakespeare s Macbeth is widely thought to be written in 1606. Three years after the ascension of James VI of Scotland to the English Throne as James I and some months after the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot, although the exact date remains impossible to establish. The turmoil of the era can be attributed to the civil unrest. The narrative acts almost as a instrument to subjugate an unruly citizenship by purging negative emotions such as anger, fear or anxiety. The Jacobean era was defined by its conflict not only between two warring ideologies but by opposing political stances. Unionist and nationalist stood against each other in opposition to the change of power dynamics, religious upheaval caused Englandto be further divided. Shakespeare s use of catharsis acts as a balm providing the proper purgation of negative emotion and therefore supressing real rebellion in James rule. Lauded as the most instructive tragedy in the world Macbeth follows the typical five act structure of the era, exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and dГ©nouement. The familiarity of this structure would have clearly reinforced for a contemporary audience that Macbeth would face his inevitable downfall in the final fifth act. His fall from the seat of power echoes the traditional belief in the great chain of being and the divine right of kings. As a political allegory, Macbeth in part serves as a warning to potential despots. As critic Stephen Greenblatt has observed, There is always someone who escapes the murderer s net, someone who poses a threat seeks to redress an injury or simply remembers what it felt like to be free and unafraid. Macbeth is more interested in power than in loyalty. In each subsequent act, we find that Lord Acton s observation: Absolute power corrupts absolutely is true. Macbeth eventually will stop at nothing not even his own beheading, to hold on to power: I will not yield To kiss the ground before young Malcolm s feet, And to be baited with the rabble s curse... I will try the last. Critical Analysis Of Allen Ginsberg s Howl The Beat Generation is a literary movement during the 1950s that consisted of male authors including the widely known Allen Ginsberg, who explored American culture in their poems. The Beat Generation could be described as misogynistic and patriarchal due to their exclusion of women and concerns confined to only male outcasts. In Allen Ginsbergs 1956 Howl, he brings his audience s attention to male outcasts in society. In her 2015 Howl , a critical response to Ginsberg s Howl , Amy Newman explores the oppression outcasted women endure in a male dominated culture through the allusions of an admired female poet, Ginsberg s original stanza form, and utilizing diction to convey a woman s perspective antithetically to Allen Ginsberg s original. In Amy Newman s Howl , she alludes to Sylvia Plath, an American female poet, who is acknowledged for her hardships as a outcasted female in the poetry world due to her oppressive marriage. Newman illustrates Plath as, [a] star spangled lost in her housebound Eden curse with orchards and a million gossipy daffodils, writing and nursing and not on the lists... (Newman). As the seasons change the leaves always go through some kind of change which is why the leader is led to believe that the leaves represent some portion of time, which could be great or small. The word fading says to the reader that the money the speaker has gained in gambling is now all gone. The idea that it faded into the pattern of grass and shadows makes the reader think that the speaker is going to gamble again and start the cycle over. First lets look at the grass. Grass when cut grows back every time, under normal conditions. This applied to the gambler means that each time the money gets short the speaker is going to gamble again to get more money or make their cash supply grow just like grass. The same principle applies with shadows. The sun comes up and the shadows began to form. As the sun goes down the shadows leave. Because of Amendments 211, 212, and 213 to the Constitution, every American is fully equal, meaning that no one is stupider, uglier, weaker, or slower than anyone else. The Handicapper General and a team of agents ensure that the laws of equality are enforced. One April, fourteen year old Harrison Bergeron is taken away from his parents, George and Hazel, by the government. George and Hazel aren t fully aware of the tragedy. Hazel s lack of awareness is due to average intelligence. In 2081, those who possess average intelligence are unable to think for extended stretches of time. Hazel says she would hate that. A noise interrupts the conversation, and George can t remember what they were talking about. On TV, an announcer with a speech impediment attempts to read a bulletin. • 28. The New Castle Town Council In 2008 the New Castle Town Council appointed an eleven member Steering Committee made up of local residents, business interests, and members of the Planning Commission and Town Council to guide a new vision for the long term growth and development of the community. This effort was in response to pending growth pressures, for which the community was not fully prepared. After some months and considerable community input, the Planning Commission recommended and the Town Council adopted the Town of New Castle Comprehensive Plan on May 27, 2009. Prior to the adoption of the Plan, the National and local economies were strong. As a result, New Castle had begun to experience significant change. The intent of the Plan was to establish a path for community growth that, while accommodating new housing, businesses, services, jobs, parks/open spaces, non motorized access systems, transportation, environmental protection and community infrastructure, would ensure that growth and change would not adversely the small town character and community values that residents wanted to preserve. As the community planning process neared its conclusion, the National economy began to experience a slow down, which in time became significant. • 29. Material And The Design Of Football Helmets Essay Material Use in the Design of Football Helmets: Importance of helmets in concussion Prevention By: Luc E. Desroches 5/7/15 Introduction American football has been around for over one hundred years, and along with the sport has been the need to provide proper safety for the players. An assortment of padding has been instituted in the game that protects against most blunt trauma including blows to the shoulders, mid section, and legs. In an attempt to prevent fracture of the skull, helmets were designed. However, studies have shown that helmets do little to nothing to prevent concussive damage to the brain. A polycarbonate shell is used as the outer housing for regulation football helmets, but along with this material, the materials used on the inside of the helmet are just as, if not more, important. The purpose of this report is to analyze the materials used in current football helmet design and the improvements being made in the field of materials science in order to combat the severe number of concussions suffered by NFL players. Concussions There is a large amount of ambiguity when diagnosing concussions. Since there is no definitive test that can be run on the brain while a person is alive to determine if they have suffered a concussion, recording an accurate number of concussions is difficult in the NFL or any sport for that matter. A concussion, in the simplest terms, is a jarring of the brain that is caused by a blow to the head or body. Traditional thinking led ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Romeo And Juliet Kevin Lord Josue Prof. Elizabeth Fogle CAMS 045 Final Paper/Final Draft August 15, 2014 Pyramus Thisbe vs. Romeo Juliet Tragic love stories have always been appealing to the literary world. This would be seen in Ovid s Pyramus and Thisbe and William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet . Ovid, one of Rome s greatest poets, was famous for The Metamorphoses. His love stories were deeply emotional, yet very tragic. The story of Pyramus and Thisbe is the most emotional story in The Metamorphoses and the most referenced in love tragedy. William Shakespeares best plays were his tragedies, starting with Hamlet all the way through to Macbeth. No one knows exactly which source Shakespeare directly drew from to create the well known tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet , but it s pretty clear that somewhere along the way there was some major influence from Pyramus and Thisbe. Both stories, although written in different era share one key theme: love and tragedy. We fall in love and when once we do something rare and beautiful is created. Unfortunately not all love stories have happy endings. The lesson learned in both Pyramus and Thisbe and Romeo and Juliet stories will be the focus of this essay. Pyramus and Thisbe were lovers whose houses side by side to each other. They were considered so beautiful that If you searched all the East, you d find no girl with greater charm than Thisbe; and no boy in Babylon was handsomer than Pyramus (Ovid 111). • 32. Pharynx Research Paper We do not consciously think about how all the sounds we render when we speak are the result of our muscles contracting. The muscles in the chest for breathing and the muscles in the larynx produce several different modifications in the flow of air from the chest to the mouth. Afterwards, passing through the larynx the air goes through the vocal tract which ends at the mouth and nostrils. The air from the lungs escapes into the atmosphere making sounds. Hence, when we transform the shape of the vocal tract we can alter the sound. The pharynx is a tube which begins just above the larynx and it is nearly 7 cm long in women and around 8 cm in men, and at the top end it is divided into two, one part being the back of the mouth and the other being the beginning of the way through the nasal cavity (Culbertson Tanner, 2011). The pharynx is the focal point for articulation as it is a resonating cavity. Furthermore, there are numerous fixed articulators such as the incisors, alveolar ridge, and the hard palate. In this short story, Chaucer illustrates the theme of immorality and how it affects the character of all the persons in the tale. .Characters display dishonesty in The Friar s Tale .
