Language Is A Method Of Human Communication
Language is a method of human communication, one of the most important things all humans have in
common. In Dillon s Grammar Repair textbook, she mentions that language is power and those who
can exercise its power possess a greater share of life s privileges across the board (1). Language
greatly defines the person and how they are deceived by others. In the essays Mother Tongue, The
Meanings of a Word, and But What Do You Mean? language is depicted as a controller of our lives in
the workplace and our community. The individual s communication methods dominated their
impressions on society. In Tan s essay, Mother Tongue, she explains her use of mother tongue, not
only as the language her mother speaks but the language she grew up with and still uses even with her
husband. Amy writes how her mother s limited English has not only limited her mother but the way
the world sees and judges her. In her essay she states that she has described her mother s language as
broken or fractured English (Tan 264). Labeling one s English as broken can often label the speaker as
incoherent and uneducated. Just like Tan s mother, many who speak an imperfect language are often
overlooked and ignored in our society. Language, although its purpose is to unite us, can very much as
well as be used to alienate an individual. It is key to establish and define our identity and our place in
the world but if we are constantly excluding people with limited English skills than we are

Cinema In Cinema
In modern world, the media is consumed by every individual person. This age is the called as the
digital age. There have been many transitions in the media consumption process. The history of media
is a vast subject to study on. As the technology is developed the media takes a new turn and twist in it
s consumption. There are televisions, radio, cinema, theater, social media channels like YouTube,
Instagram etc. that are the media channels to keep the audience engaged. However, new technology
based media platforms are dwelled on the base of old technologies that were the mainstream media in
older times. The audience that consumes the media plays a vital role in influencing the media. Among
all these media platforms, talking about the Cinema, there has been a huge change in the audiences
consuming this medium of entertainment. I am notably interested in the ways that however individuals
developed bound ritual uses of cinema. My intention is to research practices, bound habits and
behaviors of cinema going audience.
The cinema in 20th century has been producing as well as disseminating mass popular culture. The
cinema in 20th century is usually overlooked in number of other ways. The cinema has played a very
important role in mediatisation of the society. Looking back at the time when the first cinema was
released, there were many people who viewed it in mass. The use of a film projector and a camera
resulted in a cinema. It was the very first electronic medium

Determinism And Free Will In Harry Potter And The Prisoner...
The controversy of whether the doctrine of determinism or free will guides us throughout our life is
constantly debated. Is there a superior being that determines everything that occurs, or are humans free
to do whatever they choose? In stories, the collaboration of fate and free will propels the actions of
characters throughout the plot. In J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, there is a
certain fate ordained, but there is free will that brings the characters to their fates. On the contrary, the
chorus of Euripides Medea states the gods find a way, against all expectation, to do what they
want...And that is exactly how this case turned out (Euripides 1467 1469), suggesting that whatever
Medea does is constrained the the fate determined by the gods. That she enacts the judgement of the
gods is what she considers the bindings of fate, but under the lens of Harry Potter, Rowling would
treat this as free will that endows fate.
The notion that there is a superior force that decides fate is present in the novel and the play, although
the extent of this power contrasts. Dumbledore acts as a semi god figure in Harry Potter, determining
the fates of Buckbeak and Sirius Black by pushing Hermione and Harry to use the Time Turner. Had
he not opened up this possibility to them, the salvation of the doomed characters would not have been
possible. As the events unfold with the time travel, Buckbeak s liberation from execution leads
Dumbledore to remark How

Osmolar Contrast Media
In order to boost image resolution and enhance pathology perception, imaging proficiency customarily
enrol contrast media. Usually contrast agents recently in use contain iodine, and are further specified
as high osmolar contrast media (HOCM), low osmolar contrast media (LOCM), and isotonic contrast
media (IOCM), cling to their osmolality relative to plasma. LOCM or IOCM commonly used in
majority study. All HOCM agents are ionic, with an osmolality predominantly five to eight times that
of plasma. The glomerulus with no tubular reabsorption or excretion instantly sieve the injected
contrast media. For patient with normal renal consequence, contrast material within the plasma has a

Are Children Inherently Fascist Essay
Are Kids Inherently Fascist?
In the article Why kids love fascist cartoons like Paw Patrol and Thomas author Elissa Strauss argues
that children are inherently drawn to television shows that portray underlying fascist themes that
ultimately uphold a mostly white, patriarchal dominant system. Strauss uses two television shows in
particular to argue her case, Paw Patrol and Thomas the Tank Engine where the former follows search
and rescue dogs who go out on missions to protect their community while the latter is a television
series following anthropomorphised locomotives who go on adventures. Overall, Elissa Strauss article
Why kids love fascist cartoons like Paw Patrol and Thomas starts out with a thought provoking
argument using mostly ethos and pathos, while including some logos, about why parents should be
worried their kids are being exposed to fascist themes, but her argument dwindles after she relies
heavily on anecdotal evidence, with little of her own commentary, about the effect these television
shows have on society and their systemic institutions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Strauss, parents look for a world in which identities are both mutable and equal, and
imagination and empathy reign supreme, while children are drawn to worlds in which identities are
fixed, order trumps imagination and transgressions are met with routine punishment. Here we can see
Strauss using pathos to evoke a battle between good and evil, using positive, idealist descriptions to
describe the wants of the parents in comparison to the cold, mechanical descriptions to describe the
wants of the children. This is the point in the article where Strauss introduces her two targets, one
which can easily be identified as cold and mechanical, while the other takes some deep

Tyranny Pros And Cons
Tyranny is the cruel manner in which one person rises above and takes over all control, whether it be
of a nation, a country, or just a small group of people. Without the constitution, tyrants would be rising
all over, fighting to take control. Tyranny was first recorded in Athens Greece, in the 6th century B.C.
when Peisistratus arose and tried to take control. After several failed attempts, he finally took control
in 546 B.C. He ruled until his death in 527 B.C. The constitution does not want acts of tyranny to be
repeated, so they try to guard against it. The constitution prevents tyranny through federalism,
separation of powers, checks and balances, and small states vs large states. Federalism is the act of
splitting the power between the states and the federal government. This ... Show more content on

This divides power among state governments and federal governments which can be subdivided
among distinct and separate departments. When the U.S. only consisted of 13 states, they did not get
along very well. States varied in things such as history, geography, population, economy, and politics
and rarely ever agreed on even the simplest of matters. Each and every state wanted to take control
and be able to make treaties, receive ambassadors, coin money, and regulate commerce, but
unfortunately were not able to. Due to a weak central government, congress was able to negotiate
peace and declare war but was not able to raise taxes to afford these things. Congress knew they
needed to make a change so they agreed to the Articles of Confederation. This gave each state one
vote in congress and changes to the articles needed majority consent. After the American
Revolutionary War ended in 1783, the same issues began to arise yet again and the country was on the
verge of falling apart. The states could not agree on how to pay Revolutionary War soldiers, and many
veterans returned home to farms saddled with debt and

The Alchemist And Gifted Hands Essay

The quote Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and
suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved. In my opinion this
quote is true because you do need experience to do or know something. Although reading can give
you a lot of knowledge it s not enough for you in the real world. To become a doctor you actually need
experience but knowledge is just as important. I believe that this quote can be applied to Gifted

consumerism has negative connotations, is the lifeblood of our economy, and is engaged in by all

First I will provide a theoretical and historical background on the topic of consumption, then I will
discuss the following categories: symbolic indulgence, symbolic deprivation, and finally, the
convergence of classes. 1. Research and Discussion The five scholarly books examined are as follows:
In Longing and Belonging, Allison Pugh discusses the role of parenting and the effects of
consumerism and consumption on children. Foodies, by Baumann and Johnston, discusses how foodie
culture falls under the umbrella of both democracy and distinction. Consumerism, Romance and the
Wedding Experience by Sharon Boden develops the argument that the changes to the Marriage Act in
1994 shifted the perception of a wedding to a consumer based experience. In Orderly Fashion, Patrik
Aspers discusses the social order in the fashion industry. In Sharon Zukin s Point of Purchase, she
examines consumerism through the twentieth century, which brings the arguments of the above
mentioned authors into synthesis. 2. Background History Inequality between classes is historically
rooted in sociological behavior. Baumann and Johnston describe how amongst foodies, it was only an
elite minority who took up the gourmet scene in North America prior to 1960 (5). Consumption is, as
it always has been, a socially embedded and embodied phenomenon (Boden, 8). Consumerism and

Mandatory Auditor Of The New Rule
Introduction
In 2014, the EU issued the requirement of mandatory auditor rotation in order to figure out the auditor
independence issues, however the Competition Commission delayed the introduction of the new rule
as it has a conflict with EU regulations. In fact, since the early 1970s, whether introduction of
mandatory auditor rotation has sparked much debate. The favourer often used to vindicate mandatory
auditor rotation rule is to enhance auditor independence, have a fresh view at the financial statement,
boost the public s perception of auditors independence and promote greater competition among audit
firms. The supporter of the rule has argued that each would result in an improvement in audit quality.
On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In next section, I will critically discuss the supporter and objectors of views. In conclusion, I will
weigh both side opinion and give the clear view for introduction of mandatory auditor rotation.
Enhancing Auditor s Independence and Objectives Reducing the Earning Management
Convincing arguments can be made that the introduction of mandatory auditor rotation enhance
auditor independence that really improves the audit quality. In fact, audit firms are economically
bonded to its clients as there is a financial rewards associated with keeping a long term relationship
with an audit client. In order to maintain the longer period of audit firms tenure, auditors might be
enticed to overlook the issue of financial reporting such as earning management. Moreover, this
financial rewards also lead to auditors who lose objectivity in periodic audit engagements. Therefore,
auditor rotation may hold auditor back long term relationships with audit clients from
developing(Porter et al.,2014). It may lower the earning management and managing to earnings targets
owing to auditor rotation rules reducing the threats to auditor independence. This point can be
illustrated by a study which shows evidence of less earning management and less managing to
earnings targets from Italy, South Korea, and Brazil compared to the sample before introduction of
mandatory auditor rotation(Harris and Whisenant, 2012). Plenty of

Roy Rogers Restaurants
What should Frank Martinez do about the salad bar issue?
Objectives
1. To introduce the Inputs ~ Process ~ Outputs model
2. To illustrate the tension between standardisation and innovation
Case Synopsis
Roy Rogers Restaurants is a fast food franchise business owned by Marriott Corporation. Roy Rogers
is pursuing a strategy of aggressive growth through the licensing of independent franchisees (ie.,
independent owners) to operate its restaurant outlets. The case describes the nature of the franchise
industry and provides statistics on the major franchise organisations.
The decision in the case focuses on a request by a large and powerful franchisee to eliminate the salad
bar in a downtown Roy Rogers location. This decision seems ... Show more content on

Although there is some monitoring of outputs through financial statements, the primary focus is on the
standardisation of inputs and processes.
Inputs: Roy Rogers controls carefully who can become a franchisee, and the case provides details of
the financial and managerial qualifications that are necessary to be accepted as a franchisee. Roy
Rogers also controls tightly the design and construction criteria for new restaurants.
Process: All processes are controlled very tightly through the franchise agreement. Key processes
relate to menu, cooking procedures, training, uniforms, signage, etc. The franchise agreement provides
information relating to the extent to which Roy Rogers exercises control over key inputs and
processes.
The benefits of standardisation, as well as the risks should be understood. A top down standardisation
of concept precludes the bottom up learning that is necessary to adapt to dynamic markets. Moreover,
it is the franchisees who are close to customers, markets, and employees who have the most intimate
information about changes in demographics, markets, and customer tastes that are most likely to affect
the future direction of the business. Yet, these people are precluded from innovating or customizing
the concept to experiment or take account of local and/or changing market conditions.

5.1 Basic Energy Saving Tips LOWER THE SET POINT ON YOUR THERMOSTAT IN WINTER
Reducing your set point by 1˚ for an entire winter can yield a 3% savings in energy used to heat your
home. If you keep your thermostat at 68˚, try to turn it down to 67˚ for a week and see if that s okay. If
so, try 66˚ and keep going down until you get to a point where you are no longer comfortable. Then go
back up 1˚ and hold it there.
USE WINDOW TREATMENTS TO CONTROL SOLAR HEAT GAINS IN SUMMER WINTER

OPERATING FANS
The best thing to remember with fans is that they cool people, they do not cool rooms. The air
movement that fans create pulls heat and moisture off of us and gives us a cooling sensation. They do
not decrease room temperatures.
So please be sure to leave fans off when not in the room. In most cases, it is also not recommended to
leave the fan running on your furnace or air conditioner.
LOWER THE SET POINT ON YOUR WATER HEATER
If you never run out of hot water, you can probably turn the set point of your water heater down. The
turn dials are typically located under the top and bottom faceplates. Use a screwdriver to remove the
faceplate and turn it down 5 10˚. We do not recommend setting your temperature below 120˚F due to
bacterial growth. Also, have the scale removed from your water heater every couple of years.
2.2 Water Efficiency Tips Water use is becoming an increasingly important issue. Energy is used to
extract the water from the ground, treat it, pump it to your home, and heat it in your hot water tank.
Energy is also consumed to pump, treat and discharge the water once it leaves your home. The
efficient use of water in your home reduces the power consumed by our community. From significant
appliances to little things like showerheads, there

Reproductive Rights And Human Rights
Reproductive Rights Are Human Rights In 1973, the US Supreme Court declared abortion a
nationwide fundamental right through a trial called Roe vs. Wade and protected this right underneath
the Fourteenth Amendment, more specifically, the right to privacy. A basic human right, especially one
outlined by the Supreme Court, must never run at risk or threat chiefly because not everyone agrees
with it. Under no circumstances should a pregnancy ever adjudge mandatory. Abortion is a
Constitutional right and as a nation we must fight to give the right and freedom of safe abortions to
women all around the nation, make birth control and sex education accessible to women, and raise
awareness about the topic itself. (LawCornell)
In the United States, per year, twenty million unsafe abortions and sixty eight thousand deaths from
them occur, (Odyssey) while the average death risk for a safe abortion is less than .01 percent. An
illegal and unsafe abortion should never result as the last resort, but it tends to because of a lack of
access to safe ones. Morals, usually drawn from religious beliefs, tend to play a part in one s opinion
towards abortion. More than three fourths of Americans consider themselves as Christians. This means
that more than three fourths of Americans believe that it is morally wrong to undergo an abortion and
a person should not hold the right to take someone else s life away. While a moral belief, based on
religion, is something all people are free to have,

My Papas Waltz By Theodore Roethke
My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke (380), was a great poem. When I first read the poem, I pictured
it as a young boy describing his father s abusive and drunken ways. And the hardship the young boy
dealt with living in his home. Despite the fact, what the young boy was dealing with, he still seemed
to adore his father. The mother seemed to be upset with the father as he was drunk dancing with their
child. However, I read it a few times more and I seemed to understand it in a different point of view. I
understood it as, the bond that a child and father had. All though many readers do interpret words in
different ways, because of the use of connotation and tone of the poem, but the tone of the story is a

pans the mother just cleaned. Then the mother seemed to be upset as they knocked them down. In the
third stanza (380) it says, the hand that held my wrist/ every step you missed my right ear scraped a
buckle this can be interpreted as the father was abusive, because he was holding the young boy by his
wrist instead of his hands. It seemed that the father was trying to hit him with a belt and missed and
instead it his ear. On the other hand, I seen it as the child was being held with love and because of the
dance and the different heights of the father and son he had to hold him by the wrist, the young boy
height would lead to the reason why his ear will scrap on the father s belt when he missed a

Adler How To Mark A Book
To be an active reader is to be able to express yourself in the book one reads. Mortimer J. Adler argues
in his article, How to Mark a Book , that to be an active reader, the reader needs to actually write in
their book; but also to fully claim ownership of their book. According to Adler, there are plenty of
ways one can mark in a book; underlining, vertical lines at the margin, asterisk, numbers in the
margin, circling or highlighting, writing in the margin at the bottom or top, etc. One does not initially
understand what they are reading, until they feel like they are having a conversation with the author.
Adler emphasizes marking in a book keeps the reader mentally awake, helps their thoughts become
more alive, and also remember later what

Desmond Tutu Statement On Oppression
Humanity has always oppressed and discriminated against one another since the beginning of time.
Never at a point in history has everyone been completely equal in their civil rights and treatment.
Whether the discrimination stems from the color of one s skin to their religious beliefs to anything that
separates them from the larger population, a target has been placed upon them for others to attack. In
this paper I will investigate how Desmond Tutu s statement on oppression relates to primary texts that
I viewed during the course of this semester.
As Desmond Tutu stated, If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the
oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse
will not appreciate your neutrality. (1984) This example has been illustrated in human treatment of one
another since the start of recorded history. Those who are viewed as different were persecuted in a
variety of ways such as Perpetua being imprisoned and sentenced to death for her religious beliefs to
that of Martin Luther King Jr. who was murdered due to his advocating of equal rights for all.
Neutrality in situations of injustice helps nobody but the oppressor

Summary Critique About Article the Science of Desire Essays
Summary
The article The Science of Desire presents ethnography and its proponents play an important role in
modern business world. Author Ante began with an example, the satellite radio war, to show how
ethnography worked in business.
In satellite radio war, Sirius Satellite Ratio made a team of social scientists, designers, and
ethnographers. Through studying customers habit of listening to music, watching TV and reading
magazines, the team concluded several facts that can defeat competitors. Then, depending on the
research, Sirius launched its new product, the Sirius S50. Later, as the company s wish, the S50
became one of the hottest sellers in that season. How does ethnography work in business? Many

Therefore, GE shares prototypes with customers. Furthermore, instead of currying favor with
executives, it works closely with engineers to solve technical problems.
Third, ethnography transforms a culture. From 1990s, Intel, a big corporation that does not market
directly to consumers, brought in ethnographers at the highest levels of management in order to focus
on consumer products more. In past years, Intel developed its wireless Centrino mobile technology by
studying Alaska s fishers; Intel began to develop medical technology for the wave of retiring boomers
by studying the elderly; Intel developed $500 Community India PC by studying rural Indian condition.
In order to do better in ethnography research, Intel created a network of platform definition centers in
Bangalore, Cairo, SĂŁo Paulo, and Shanghai. Although some ones in the company still does not believe
ethnography, with anthropologists help, indeed engineers and other had better get used to it. Critique

The Role Of Women And Their Effect On The War
Nevertheless, another important element in The Iliad is the role of women and their effect on the war
and their relationship with other characters. Scholar Mary R. Lefkowitz, argues that women had some
independence and were under the supervisions of man. The scholar writes:
In the Homeric epics women seem to have little independence; they were always under the
guardianship of a man, whether a husband, father, or even a son. Wives must live in their husband s
cities; women like Chryseis or Briseis, who have been captured in raids, become slaves and are
completely subject to their masters. (Lefkowitz 503).
I concur with the writer that women do not have any force and are compelled of by man. As the author
noted about Chryseis been captured and becoming into a slave. This is exhibited in The Iliad when
Chrysesis father comes to King Agamemnon to recover his little girl back in the wake of being given
as a war prize to King Agamemnon. In the wake of bribing the Achenes to give back his girl, King
Agamemnon reacts by saying he will not give back his little girl. This is established in Book One as

Statement Of Internal Medicine
William Arthur Ward, author of Fountains of Faith, once wrote: Curiosity is the wick in the candle of
learning. I was always a curious child. Whenever I saw a sick person, I wondered what happens inside
the human body that causes illness, and my natural inquisitiveness only increased as I got older. By
the time I joined medical school, it was very clear to me that in this field I would be dealing with the
most precious thing in the world: human life. I truly believe that medicine is a service to humanity
because of the big difference a physician can make in a patient s life.
During medical school, I enjoyed the opportunity to rotate through the various wards of the hospital,
where I encountered scores of different types of patients with ... Show more content on

Internal medicine involves determining the crucial items from a huge pool of physical signs and lab
data, decisions on how to treat a difficult case, and estimating the risks and benefits of treatment for a
particular case. Of course, internal medicine is not only about diagnosing and managing a particular
case, but also about understanding every patient and being attuned to their changing needs, concerns,
and mental state. This is one of the only fields where providing healthcare and health education go
hand in hand. I personally enjoy managing the minute details of a case, helping patients understand
their conditions, and developing a comprehensive plan of care for them. The great versatility of this
field, the interplay between the different body systems involved, and the necessity of managing the
well being of the patient in entirety are all aspects of internal medicine that mesmerize

The Pros and Cons of Ethanol as a Renewable Source of Energy
I. Introduction
One of the most hotly contested debates in today s realm of environmental concern is how to secure
energy for the maintenance and improvement of quality of life in the future. To date, humanity has
been blessed with plentiful reserves of cheap crude oil, which can be refined into a multitude of items
that make the lives of many so convenient gasoline, heating oil, natural gas, plastics, and fertilizers. In
some parts of the world, these technologies merely facilitate survival. But concern over what happens
when these supplies dwindle is universal. Science has revealed that oil will not last forever at the rate
it is being consumed. Therefore, alternatives must be developed that can provide sustainable ... Show

Fossil fuel consumption in the United States is colossal. In Colorado, the average household uses 70
million Btu of energy from natural gas and 150 million Btu from gasoline in 2000. (Energy
Information Administration) That s around 1,320 gallons of gas per household, per year. (US EPA) In
that same year, multiply that by Colorado s 1,658,238 households (US Census Bureau) and find that
the state s residential sector consumed around 2,188,874,160 gallons of gas at the turn of the century.
Per capita, Colorado ranks just 36th amongst the states in energy consumption. (Energy Information
Administration)
This does not begin to tell the whole story. On the whole, keeping with Colorado as an example, we in
this state used 1.35 quadrillion Btu of energy in 2003, about 1.4% of the U.S. 98.6 quadrillion Btu,
with just over 2% coming from renewable sources. Also in 2003, the world was calculated as using
about 421 quadrillion Btu of energy (around 6% coming from renewables). (EIA Energy Outlook) The
U.S. produces less than a fifth of this. (USGS) Ever hear someone throw out that statistic that
America, with just under 5% of the world s population, uses around one fourth of the world s energy?
It s true. Translation: the U.S. is horrifyingly vulnerable to a shut off of foreign oil supplies.
As petroleum supplies inevitably dwindle, renewable energy sources like wind, solar, hydrothermal,
and biofuel

The objective is to determine the most cost effective method to decrease the project s deadline. The
project plan discussed below has been generated through the use of a projectplanning scheduling
technique, Critical Path Methodology, to secure the scientific approach. The program schedule
provides a quantitative basis to make managerial decisions to shorten the implementation time of the
overall project.
2. Assumptions and Approximations
The mathematical model created to schedule all the projects is based upon a number of simplifying
assumptions and approximations. These need to be taken into account in order to make an independent
judgment about the model s usefulness.
The assumptions and approximations of this model are:

The product introduction program has been broken down into three groups of activities: Research
Development, Marketing Advertising, and Promotion;

The description of each activity and the indicated time required for its completion in weeks was taken
at face value from the case;

The tasks to be performed by each department and the estimated durations and deadlines were also
considered as given;

The preceding activities for each activity are considered as such;

The tasks that could potentially be crashed by increasing resources were decisions based on the
information available in the case.

Maintaining Agricultural Farmlands for the World s Growing...
As the world population continues to rise, there are growing concerns for maintaining agricultural
farmlands, especially in developing countries with drought and famine. This has also led to many
shortages of food, due to high demand because of the increasing population. Demographists worry
that if this growing issue continues to hurt food consumption of povertized countries, than there will
be more deaths because the population is increasing, but the food levels are staying the same, or even
decreasing. Some of these demographists believe that this is occurring, because the developed
countries are intaking too much food. Others believe that this is because of the overpopulated
countries, and the fact that they are in higher need for food because of their population. Another
problem that arises within this is deforestation. Deforestation is a part of this growing problem
because when massive woodlands are cut down, the lands become dry and bodies of water in or
around the land dry up, making crops unsuitable for crop growth and crop rotation, leading to the
lands to turn into non arable lands. This is also known as desertification. This correlates with
population growth because if lands become non arable, then crops won t grow there, leading to
starvation in developing countries with higher population needs and demands. Although some people
are taking action for the problems that this issue has given us, we re still nowhere near solving the
problem. This issue is very

Presentation of In Flanders Fields script
Our presentation is on In Flanders Fields by Lieutenant Colonel John
McCrae.
There is an irregular rhyme scheme = aabba

aabbac
Almost all lines are 8 syllables long
The rhythm sounds like that of a nursery rhyme there is an iambic pentameter with a very regular line
length and rhyme scheme. This is in great contrast to the actual words all about death and war.
* Line 1 In Flanders Fields the poppies blow presents a nice natural image of poppies swaying in the
breeze.
* Line 2 Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place... row on row signifies the enormous number of graves, as it is not a definite, but
an infinite number of crosses.

This is surprising because the
1st stanza was all imagery and symbolism and this is very different.
The statement is short, and abrupt, which makes it sound bitter.
· It is quite a shock because not many poems are written from this point of view and a lot of people
don t like to think about it at all.
· This abruptness perhaps symbolises the fact that nothing can be done to change this fact, as it is just
that: a fact.
· Dead is capitalised, as though the poet is referring to all those who died as one collective person.
People not in the war would probably refer to them like this, anonymously.
* Line 1 Short days ago this brings home the suddenness of death in war.
* Line 2 We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow... this helps the reader to identify with the dead. It
contrasts with the previous capitalisation of Dead because it is reminds the reader of how these
soldiers were all real people, who had feelings and watched sunsets.
· Sunsets are beautiful things very unlike the war. They appear to be an eternal cycle, which is very
different to these peoples lives, and reminds us of our mortality.
* Line 3 Loved and were loved, and now we lie... loved and were loved shows that the dead soldiers
cared about people who cared about them, but it is in the past tense. This makes it sound as if now
they are dead no one cares about them. They are forgotten, which makes the next line

Summary Of In The Time Of The Butterflies By Julia Alvarez
Alvarez published her award winning novel In the Time of the Butterflies in 1994. The novel delves
into the story of the Mirabel sisters. Patria, Maria Teresa, Dede, and Minerva narrate the story of their
lives from young teenagers in 1938, until their last breath in 1960. The only sister to survive was
Dede. Alvarez in the Dominican Republic interviewed Dede. Dede gives her in depth knowledge of
her sisters lives and background. Alvarez vocalizes, They became real to me because she was real
(Heredia page 4). Alvarez expresses, Their voices became real to me in an intuitive way (4). She
wanted the novel to emulate the Mirabel s sisters lives, not just their death. Graciously, she provides
realism and historical facts to a novel. She

Ethiopia Research Paper
Many spots on the globe lay claim to being the origin of human civilization, my paper will argue the
Ethiopia deserves such a title. Although I am Ethiopian decent, I will support the claim through
historic evidence and many written studies proves that Ethiopia is the origin of humankind and
civilization. Ethiopia is a country in northeastern Africa. It is the only African country to successfully
resist European colonization, and was one of the first in the world to adopt Christianity as the religion
of the state. Ethiopia is the one landlocked country in the world with the most inhabitants, and is also
the home of archeological sites. The name Ethiopia has its own special verbiage and vocabulary.
Ethiopia1 was also once historically known as Abyssinia, and it comes from an Arabic word meaning
mixed a reference to the country s many ethnic groups diversified tribe. Another name for Abyssinia is
Habesh, an early Arabic form of Ethiosemitic name Habasat. Habesha is another term Ethiopians use
to refer to themselves. Habesha is a term of pride and used to eliminate the distinction between
different tribes and celebrate unity as people of the same country. Habesha means diverse . It comes

Meaning the Medium Is the Message
What is the Meaning of The Medium is the Message? by Mark Federman Former Chief Strategist
McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology a culture like ours, long accustomed to splitting and
dividing all things as a means of control, it is sometimes a bit of a shock to be reminded that, in
operational and practical fact, the medium is the message. This is merely to say that the personal and
social consequences of any medium that is, of any extension of ourselves result from the new scale
that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by any new technology.
(McLuhan, 1964, p. 7) Thus begins the classic work of Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media, in
which he introduced the world to his enigmatic paradox, The ... Show more content on

In the case of a specific theatrical production, its message may be a change in attitude or action on the
part of the audience that results from the medium of the play itself, which is quite distinct from the
medium of theatrical production in general. Similarly, the message of a newscast are not the news
stories themselves, but a change in the public attitude towards crime, or the creation of a climate of
fear. A McLuhan message always tells us to look beyond the obvious and seek the nonobvious
changes or effects that are enabled, enhanced, accelerated or extended by the new thing. McLuhan
defines medium for us as well. Right at the beginning of Understanding Media, he tells us that a
medium is any extension of ourselves. Classically, he suggests that a hammer extends our arm and that
the wheel extends our legs and feet. Each enables us to do more than our bodies could do on their
own. Similarly, the medium of language extends our thoughts from within our mind out to others.
Indeed, since our thoughts are the result of our individual sensory experience, speech is an outering of
our senses we could consider it as a form of reversing senses whereas usually our senses bring the
world into our minds, speech takes our sensorially shaped minds out to the world. But McLuhan
always thought of a medium in the sense of a growing medium,

The Tower Of Babel To Jacob And Esau Reconciled
Brief Paper
Senior Seminar in Interdisciplinary Studies
Dr. Packer
Eric G. Shuping
March 31, 2015
Brief Paper From The Tower of Babel to Jacob and Esau Reconciled, we learn about honor, betrayal,
and forgiveness from the book of Genesis. From these themes we learn what applies to our everyday
life and how we are able to survive. At the start of Genesis twelve, God honors a promise that he made
to Abraham that he will behold and protect as long as he lived. Go forth from your land and your
birthplace and your father s house to the land I will show you. And I will make you a great nation and
I will bless you and make your name great, and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless those who
bless you, and those who damn you I will curse, and all the clans of the earth through you shall be
blessed. (Genesis 12: pg. 126). God s determination to honor Abraham was to bring his family and
wife back to the birthplace of his father s, where Abraham s name will be blessed and in greatness to
people who come and honor him. God placed Abraham to be a father of all nations to kings that will
come honor Abraham for his wisdom that he bestows upon them, and to give his seed the land of
Canaan and resurrected an altar before him. God states to Abraham, As for you, you shall keep My
commandment, you and your seed after you through their generations. (Genesis 17: ... Show more

The Fault In Our Stars Theme Essay
Having a family to rely on and be supported by is said to be the most important thing to have in life.
No matter where you go, you should have loving family members who will support and help you
without question, if they are ever needed to. In the novel, The Fault in our Stars, the theme of having
loved ones and being close to family members is heavily leaned on through the actions of illnesses and
loss. The novel shows the theme through the actions of Hazel, Augustus, and their parents. As
expected, each character has their own style of expressing their emotions, feelings, and thoughts in
their dark times.
Firstly, within the novel, it is clear that Hazel is a caring person and is fully aware of what her body s
condition does to her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hazel is demonstrating that she really wants her mom to have fun during their trip instead of wasting
this opportunity because of her. Her mom, however, appears to be secretly worried. Her parents should
be, but simply saying what Hazel would want to hear to have her ease on her plans. It is clear by now
that Hazel feels some kind of guilt for something she cannot control, her body, and would do or say
anything to make her parents lives easier.
Secondly, through the perspective of another character, Augustus has his own way of taking care of his
family and loved ones in his amount of depleting time. Like Hazel, Augustus feels the need to make
the important people in his life better when times are gloomy. Quote, I m hopeful I ll get to attend as a
ghost, but just to make sure, I thought I d well, not to put you on the spot, but I just this afternoon
though I could arrange a prefuneral, and I figured since I m in reasonably good spirits, there s no time
like the present. (257). Spoken by Augustus to Hazel, this request by Augustus can be broken down to
him simply understanding and accepting he does not have much time left. He wants to let everyone he
cares about to know what he has left to say and for everyone to say their last words to him, saying
their goodbyes, and ensuring them that he does hear what they all have left to say. He also keeps his
happy mood because he knows if he can remain positive, it would

Analysis Of Songs Of Rebellion
Matthew Caruso Beverly Mitchell Arts Culture II April 6, 2017 Songs of Rebellion Smashing
anything from pumpkins to instruments, Rock Roll is a form of art with flare. Generations of people
from the 50 s to modern day have enjoyed a little bit of rebellion in their life. But while the rebels
continue to rage against the machine of society, that society is constantly changing. Different issues
become highlighted and more relevant as others fall to the wayside, but Rock music does not stand by
jovially. With constant adapting and innovating, Rock Roll always finds something to scream about.

By the end of the decade, however Rock was taken over by big business, and what used to be a
provocative sound turned into songs about teen appropriate issues such as school, parents, young love,

many thought it was dead until the mid 60 s. Rock Roll had a resurgence, known as The British
Invasion . While things had settled down in the US, England had been inspired. Groups from Britain
like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles brought a fresh style, infusing British Rhythm and Blues and
Jazz into what they played. This revival propelled the genre down two different paths. Many groups
came onto the scene and continued to make more of the same teen appropriate pop style music. others
pushed boundaries in an industry heavily influenced by drugs, spawning the phrase, Sex, Drugs, and
Rock Roll . The Beatles were at the center of it all, experimenting with different sounds and
instruments. Their experimentations became part of a larger movement, known as psychedelic rock,
which included the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd was one of the first bands to use

creating what many call Acid Rock. Additionally, the Beatles were not just trendsetters with their

Tweetsie Case Study
On the rainy Wednesday I learned that when there is bad weather the park has three options for
running operations. Option #1 is that Tweetsie is run as normal and the show goes on as usual. Option
#2 is running at half capacity, which means that only Main Street and the train will operate. All of the
rides stop running and none of the shows take place during operating hours. Finally, Tweetsie has the
option of just running train rides and closing all other aspects of the park. If this happens we let people
in for free because all they would be able to do is ride the train. In the recent history of Tweetsie they

The Blood Sucking Behavior Of Hirudo
The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Miguel Soto Professor Folkerts Pepperdine University 23
April 2014 Abstract Hirudo are well known for their blood sucking, fluid feeding behavior. The
purpose of this experiment was to get a better understanding of Hirudo s blood feeding behavior; more
specifically, the study was designed to answer the question: how do different volumes of blood affect
Hirudo s thirst? By soaking a sponge with different volumes of cow blood and measuring the time it
took for the Hirudo to attach to the blood soaked sponge, the experiment yielded results that help
explain whether or not there was a connection between the amount of blood available to Hirudo for
feeding and the time it takes Hirudo to attach to the blood source. The experiment was conducted
using six Hirudo, with a total of ten different volumes of blood per sponge (ranging from 1mL to
10mL) and two trials done for each volume of blood. Data collected from the experiment was
analyzed with the SPSS program and found that differences in attachment time for the various levels
of blood in the sponge were significant at the .05 level. These results explain that Hirudo do in fact
take significantly less time to attach to a blood source containing a higher volume of blood. This
information can be helpful for medical practitioners who use Hirudo as an alternative form of
medicine. In nature, these results can also help explain Hirudo s feeding behavior and how Hirudo

Olaudah Equiano And Thomas Jefferson
Plenty of early American authors used religious content or ideas for political purposes. These authors
wanted to change the political world around them through publishing works with religious content.
Two of these writers were Olaudah Equiano and Thomas Jefferson. Equiano and Jefferson crafted
letters and stories that shaped then political climate during early American times that eventually
helped to build a great nation. In the biography of Thomas Jefferson it states that he wished to be
remembered for only three things; drafting the Declaration of Independence, writing and supporting
the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom (1786), and founding the University of Virginia. Fortunate
for him that is what he remembered for to this day. As for Olaudah Equiano, he has caused a great deal
of debate as to where he grew up. There has been evidence to support him growing up in the Carolinas
and there has also been evidence to support him coming from Africa. One thing is certain that he has
produced high quality written material that is read to this day. Thomas Jefferson, born 1743 in
Virginia, was a self made man. He had many activities, such as law, and politics in addition to running
a 5,000 acre plantation that he inherited from his father. Jefferson graduated from William and Mary
College, and was a talented lawyer. Jefferson was an awful public speaker, but he was a great

The Importance Of Air Traffic Control In Aviation
Technology and computers are all positive innovations but to operate those machines and equipment
humans are needed. Human factor is the most important factor in an Aviation field. On one single
airport thousands of employee work and humans on ground operates all the equipments.
To identify a useful set of Air Traffic Control complexity factors a research has been conducted and it
s on ground services that are important for the air traffic effectiveness. This topic fits in my field of
study as I worked in Aviation field and currently pursuing a master s in MBAAviation degree. On the
one hand It is necessary to determine, how a different factor on ground related to controller workload
and ATC complexity interacts on the other hand with, air traffic effectiveness. This research should
lead to conclusion of guidelines to improve ATC sector and traffic flow as well as to produce a better
and safe transportation.
Aviation itself is a vast world and is growing day by day with the increasing number of airlines,
airports, aircrafts and the population around the world. There are numbers of passengers who travel
for their own purpose and these passengers demand a safe and on time journey. This safe and on time
journey can only be accomplished with air traffic effectiveness and by ensuring all the services
provided to make this effectiveness stable and better day by day.

  • 2. Language Is A Method Of Human Communication Language is a method of human communication, one of the most important things all humans have in common. In Dillon s Grammar Repair textbook, she mentions that language is power and those who can exercise its power possess a greater share of life s privileges across the board (1). Language greatly defines the person and how they are deceived by others. In the essays Mother Tongue, The Meanings of a Word, and But What Do You Mean? language is depicted as a controller of our lives in the workplace and our community. The individual s communication methods dominated their impressions on society. In Tan s essay, Mother Tongue, she explains her use of mother tongue, not only as the language her mother speaks but the language she grew up with and still uses even with her husband. Amy writes how her mother s limited English has not only limited her mother but the way the world sees and judges her. In her essay she states that she has described her mother s language as broken or fractured English (Tan 264). Labeling one s English as broken can often label the speaker as incoherent and uneducated. Just like Tan s mother, many who speak an imperfect language are often overlooked and ignored in our society. Language, although its purpose is to unite us, can very much as well as be used to alienate an individual. It is key to establish and define our identity and our place in the world but if we are constantly excluding people with limited English skills than we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The audience that consumes the media plays a vital role in influencing the media. Among all these media platforms, talking about the Cinema, there has been a huge change in the audiences consuming this medium of entertainment. I am notably interested in the ways that however individuals developed bound ritual uses of cinema. My intention is to research practices, bound habits and behaviors of cinema going audience. The cinema in 20th century has been producing as well as disseminating mass popular culture. The cinema in 20th century is usually overlooked in number of other ways. • 4. Determinism And Free Will In Harry Potter And The Prisoner... The controversy of whether the doctrine of determinism or free will guides us throughout our life is constantly debated. Is there a superior being that determines everything that occurs, or are humans free to do whatever they choose? In stories, the collaboration of fate and free will propels the actions of characters throughout the plot. In J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, there is a certain fate ordained, but there is free will that brings the characters to their fates. On the contrary, the chorus of Euripides Medea states the gods find a way, against all expectation, to do what they want...And that is exactly how this case turned out (Euripides 1467 1469), suggesting that whatever Medea does is constrained the the fate determined by the gods. That she enacts the judgement of the gods is what she considers the bindings of fate, but under the lens of Harry Potter, Rowling would treat this as free will that endows fate. The notion that there is a superior force that decides fate is present in the novel and the play, although the extent of this power contrasts. Dumbledore acts as a semi god figure in Harry Potter, determining the fates of Buckbeak and Sirius Black by pushing Hermione and Harry to use the Time Turner. Had he not opened up this possibility to them, the salvation of the doomed characters would not have been possible. As the events unfold with the time travel, Buckbeak s liberation from execution leads Dumbledore to remark How ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the article Why kids love fascist cartoons like Paw Patrol and Thomas author Elissa Strauss argues that children are inherently drawn to television shows that portray underlying fascist themes that ultimately uphold a mostly white, patriarchal dominant system. Strauss uses two television shows in particular to argue her case, Paw Patrol and Thomas the Tank Engine where the former follows search and rescue dogs who go out on missions to protect their community while the latter is a television series following anthropomorphised locomotives who go on adventures. Overall, Elissa Strauss article Why kids love fascist cartoons like Paw Patrol and Thomas starts out with a thought provoking argument using mostly ethos and pathos, while including some logos, about why parents should be worried their kids are being exposed to fascist themes, but her argument dwindles after she relies heavily on anecdotal evidence, with little of her own commentary, about the effect these television shows have on society and their systemic institutions. ... According to Strauss, parents look for a world in which identities are both mutable and equal, and imagination and empathy reign supreme, while children are drawn to worlds in which identities are fixed, order trumps imagination and transgressions are met with routine punishment. Here we can see Strauss using pathos to evoke a battle between good and evil, using positive, idealist descriptions to describe the wants of the parents in comparison to the cold, mechanical descriptions to describe the wants of the children. This is the point in the article where Strauss introduces her two targets, one which can easily be identified as cold and mechanical, while the other takes some deep ... Without the constitution, tyrants would be rising all over, fighting to take control. Tyranny was first recorded in Athens Greece, in the 6th century B.C. when Peisistratus arose and tried to take control. After several failed attempts, he finally took control in 546 B.C. He ruled until his death in 527 B.C. The constitution does not want acts of tyranny to be repeated, so they try to guard against it. Foodies, by Baumann and Johnston, discusses how foodie culture falls under the umbrella of both democracy and distinction. Consumerism, Romance and the Wedding Experience by Sharon Boden develops the argument that the changes to the Marriage Act in 1994 shifted the perception of a wedding to a consumer based experience. In Orderly Fashion, Patrik Aspers discusses the social order in the fashion industry. In Sharon Zukin s Point of Purchase, she examines consumerism through the twentieth century, which brings the arguments of the above mentioned authors into synthesis. 2. In fact, since the early 1970s, whether introduction of mandatory auditor rotation has sparked much debate. The favourer often used to vindicate mandatory auditor rotation rule is to enhance auditor independence, have a fresh view at the financial statement, boost the public s perception of auditors independence and promote greater competition among audit firms. Enhancing Auditor s Independence and Objectives Reducing the Earning Management Convincing arguments can be made that the introduction of mandatory auditor rotation enhance auditor independence that really improves the audit quality. In fact, audit firms are economically bonded to its clients as there is a financial rewards associated with keeping a long term relationship with an audit client. In order to maintain the longer period of audit firms tenure, auditors might be enticed to overlook the issue of financial reporting such as earning management. Moreover, this financial rewards also lead to auditors who lose objectivity in periodic audit engagements. Therefore, auditor rotation may hold auditor back long term relationships with audit clients from developing(Porter et al.,2014). It may lower the earning management and managing to earnings targets owing to auditor rotation rules reducing the threats to auditor independence. This point can be illustrated by a study which shows evidence of less earning management and less managing to earnings targets from Italy, South Korea, and Brazil compared to the sample before introduction of mandatory auditor rotation(Harris and Whisenant, 2012). Inputs: Roy Rogers controls carefully who can become a franchisee, and the case provides details of the financial and managerial qualifications that are necessary to be accepted as a franchisee. Roy Rogers also controls tightly the design and construction criteria for new restaurants. Process: All processes are controlled very tightly through the franchise agreement. Key processes relate to menu, cooking procedures, training, uniforms, signage, etc. The franchise agreement provides information relating to the extent to which Roy Rogers exercises control over key inputs and processes. The benefits of standardisation, as well as the risks should be understood. A top down standardisation of concept precludes the bottom up learning that is necessary to adapt to dynamic markets. Moreover, it is the franchisees who are close to customers, markets, and employees who have the most intimate information about changes in demographics, markets, and customer tastes that are most likely to affect the future direction of the business. Reproductive Rights And Human Rights Reproductive Rights Are Human Rights In 1973, the US Supreme Court declared abortion a nationwide fundamental right through a trial called Roe vs. Wade and protected this right underneath the Fourteenth Amendment, more specifically, the right to privacy. A basic human right, especially one outlined by the Supreme Court, must never run at risk or threat chiefly because not everyone agrees with it. Under no circumstances should a pregnancy ever adjudge mandatory. Abortion is a Constitutional right and as a nation we must fight to give the right and freedom of safe abortions to women all around the nation, make birth control and sex education accessible to women, and raise awareness about the topic itself. (LawCornell) In the United States, per year, twenty million unsafe abortions and sixty eight thousand deaths from them occur, (Odyssey) while the average death risk for a safe abortion is less than .01 percent. An illegal and unsafe abortion should never result as the last resort, but it tends to because of a lack of access to safe ones. Morals, usually drawn from religious beliefs, tend to play a part in one s opinion towards abortion. More than three fourths of Americans consider themselves as Christians. Never at a point in history has everyone been completely equal in their civil rights and treatment. Whether the discrimination stems from the color of one s skin to their religious beliefs to anything that separates them from the larger population, a target has been placed upon them for others to attack. In this paper I will investigate how Desmond Tutu s statement on oppression relates to primary texts that I viewed during the course of this semester. As Desmond Tutu stated, If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality. (1984) This example has been illustrated in human treatment of one another since the start of recorded history. The Role Of Women And Their Effect On The War Nevertheless, another important element in The Iliad is the role of women and their effect on the war and their relationship with other characters. Scholar Mary R. Lefkowitz, argues that women had some independence and were under the supervisions of man. The scholar writes: In the Homeric epics women seem to have little independence; they were always under the guardianship of a man, whether a husband, father, or even a son. Wives must live in their husband s cities; women like Chryseis or Briseis, who have been captured in raids, become slaves and are completely subject to their masters. (Lefkowitz 503). I concur with the writer that women do not have any force and are compelled of by man. As the author noted about Chryseis been captured and becoming into a slave. This is exhibited in The Iliad when Chrysesis father comes to King Agamemnon to recover his little girl back in the wake of being given as a war prize to King Agamemnon. In the wake of bribing the Achenes to give back his girl, King Agamemnon reacts by saying he will not give back his little girl. This is established in Book One as Chyrses, Chryseis father drew nearer King Agamemnon, Yes, Chyrses approached the Achaean s fast ships to win his daughter back, bringing a priceless ransom...Just set my daughter free, my dear one... • 29. Maintaining Agricultural Farmlands for the World s Growing... As the world population continues to rise, there are growing concerns for maintaining agricultural farmlands, especially in developing countries with drought and famine. This has also led to many shortages of food, due to high demand because of the increasing population. Demographists worry that if this growing issue continues to hurt food consumption of povertized countries, than there will be more deaths because the population is increasing, but the food levels are staying the same, or even decreasing. Some of these demographists believe that this is occurring, because the developed countries are intaking too much food. Others believe that this is because of the overpopulated countries, and the fact that they are in higher need for food because of their population. Another problem that arises within this is deforestation. Deforestation is a part of this growing problem because when massive woodlands are cut down, the lands become dry and bodies of water in or around the land dry up, making crops unsuitable for crop growth and crop rotation, leading to the lands to turn into non arable lands. This is also known as desertification. This correlates with population growth because if lands become non arable, then crops won t grow there, leading to starvation in developing countries with higher population needs and demands. Although some people are taking action for the problems that this issue has given us, we re still nowhere near solving the problem. This issue is very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The statement is short, and abrupt, which makes it sound bitter. · It is quite a shock because not many poems are written from this point of view and a lot of people don t like to think about it at all. · This abruptness perhaps symbolises the fact that nothing can be done to change this fact, as it is just that: a fact. • 34. Meaning the Medium Is the Message What is the Meaning of The Medium is the Message? by Mark Federman Former Chief Strategist McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology a culture like ours, long accustomed to splitting and dividing all things as a means of control, it is sometimes a bit of a shock to be reminded that, in operational and practical fact, the medium is the message. This is merely to say that the personal and social consequences of any medium that is, of any extension of ourselves result from the new scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by any new technology. (McLuhan, 1964, p. 7) Thus begins the classic work of Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media, in which he introduced the world to his enigmatic paradox, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of a specific theatrical production, its message may be a change in attitude or action on the part of the audience that results from the medium of the play itself, which is quite distinct from the medium of theatrical production in general. Similarly, the message of a newscast are not the news stories themselves, but a change in the public attitude towards crime, or the creation of a climate of fear. A McLuhan message always tells us to look beyond the obvious and seek the nonobvious changes or effects that are enabled, enhanced, accelerated or extended by the new thing. McLuhan defines medium for us as well. Right at the beginning of Understanding Media, he tells us that a medium is any extension of ourselves. Classically, he suggests that a hammer extends our arm and that the wheel extends our legs and feet. Each enables us to do more than our bodies could do on their own. Similarly, the medium of language extends our thoughts from within our mind out to others. Indeed, since our thoughts are the result of our individual sensory experience, speech is an outering of our senses we could consider it as a form of reversing senses whereas usually our senses bring the world into our minds, speech takes our sensorially shaped minds out to the world. But McLuhan always thought of a medium in the sense of a growing medium, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shuping March 31, 2015 Brief Paper From The Tower of Babel to Jacob and Esau Reconciled, we learn about honor, betrayal, and forgiveness from the book of Genesis. From these themes we learn what applies to our everyday life and how we are able to survive. At the start of Genesis twelve, God honors a promise that he made to Abraham that he will behold and protect as long as he lived. Go forth from your land and your birthplace and your father s house to the land I will show you. And I will make you a great nation and I will bless you and make your name great, and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless those who bless you, and those who damn you I will curse, and all the clans of the earth through you shall be blessed. (Genesis 12: pg. 126). Rock Roll had a resurgence, known as The British Invasion . While things had settled down in the US, England had been inspired. Groups from Britain like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles brought a fresh style, infusing British Rhythm and Blues and Jazz into what they played. This revival propelled the genre down two different paths. Many groups came onto the scene and continued to make more of the same teen appropriate pop style music. others pushed boundaries in an industry heavily influenced by drugs, spawning the phrase, Sex, Drugs, and Rock Roll . The Beatles were at the center of it all, experimenting with different sounds and instruments. Their experimentations became part of a larger movement, known as psychedelic rock, which included the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd was one of the first bands to use laser lights in their concerts. What s more psychedelic than that? Hendrix even took it a step further, creating what many call Acid Rock. Option #1 is that Tweetsie is run as normal and the show goes on as usual. Option #2 is running at half capacity, which means that only Main Street and the train will operate. All of the rides stop running and none of the shows take place during operating hours. Finally, Tweetsie has the option of just running train rides and closing all other aspects of the park. If this happens we let people in for free because all they would be able to do is ride the train. • 40. The Blood Sucking Behavior Of Hirudo The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Miguel Soto Professor Folkerts Pepperdine University 23 April 2014 Abstract Hirudo are well known for their blood sucking, fluid feeding behavior. The purpose of this experiment was to get a better understanding of Hirudo s blood feeding behavior; more specifically, the study was designed to answer the question: how do different volumes of blood affect Hirudo s thirst? By soaking a sponge with different volumes of cow blood and measuring the time it took for the Hirudo to attach to the blood soaked sponge, the experiment yielded results that help explain whether or not there was a connection between the amount of blood available to Hirudo for feeding and the time it takes Hirudo to attach to the blood source. The experiment was conducted using six Hirudo, with a total of ten different volumes of blood per sponge (ranging from 1mL to 10mL) and two trials done for each volume of blood. Data collected from the experiment was analyzed with the SPSS program and found that differences in attachment time for the various levels of blood in the sponge were significant at the .05 level. These results explain that Hirudo do in fact take significantly less time to attach to a blood source containing a higher volume of blood. This information can be helpful for medical practitioners who use Hirudo as an alternative form of medicine. • 41. Olaudah Equiano And Thomas Jefferson Plenty of early American authors used religious content or ideas for political purposes. These authors wanted to change the political world around them through publishing works with religious content. Two of these writers were Olaudah Equiano and Thomas Jefferson. Equiano and Jefferson crafted letters and stories that shaped then political climate during early American times that eventually helped to build a great nation. In the biography of Thomas Jefferson it states that he wished to be remembered for only three things; drafting the Declaration of Independence, writing and supporting the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom (1786), and founding the University of Virginia. Fortunate for him that is what he remembered for to this day. As for Olaudah Equiano, he has caused a great deal of debate as to where he grew up. There has been evidence to support him growing up in the Carolinas and there has also been evidence to support him coming from Africa. One thing is certain that he has produced high quality written material that is read to this day. Thomas Jefferson, born 1743 in Virginia, was a self made man. He had many activities, such as law, and politics in addition to running a 5,000 acre plantation that he inherited from his father.
