Free Will vs. Fate in The Winter s Tale Essay
The Winter s Tale
The Winter s Tale is one of jealousy, betrayal and redemption. While this story involves many
characters and opens questions of the flaws in human nature and the power of forgiveness, there are
two main characters of particular anomaly. The actions of Leontes and Perditain this play are
unique unto themselves. As King, Leontes every decision weighs heavily upon the court and his
country. As we have seen in several other plays by Shakespeare, when the King is in distress,
Nature herself is disrupted. The cosmic connection between Leontes and Nature allows for the
supernatural forces that are seen late in the play. He has the opportunity to use these forces to
accomplish great things. Instead he chooses to let ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hunter considers Leontes actions to be the worst we have seen. He asserts the idea:
Leontes is his own calumniator, and the most completely unexcused of all Shakespeare s
humanum genus figures. Bertram has the complaisance of Parolles...and even Angelo and Antonio
can be seen as tempted, the one by the beauty of Isabella, the other by the prospect of power. No
one encourages or tempts Leontes, or lies to him. His sin is all his own work. (190)
Leontes is clearly a creature of free will. His sins are grievous and yet he is redeemed in the end.
Leontes has a free nature, thus enabling him to make both good and bad decisions. Since most of
his decisions are bad, his free nature allows him to eventually see his errors, express sorrow and
repent. . Hunter considers Leontes faults:
With hatred in control of his mind, Leontes attempts to destroy the innocent to kill his best friend,
his wife, and his own newborn child ...for this intended murder is `what Shakespeare makes the
symbol of complete wickedness: to command to murder a child. In The Winter s Tale, infanticide
takes on an added horror from the fact that the child is Leontes own. (192)
The Winter s Tale hinges on the Order of Nature, thus calling into question the roles of free will
and fate in human existence. Our two champions of these ideas are Leontes and Perdita. Leontes,
for example, uses his powers, as king to exert his will

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein-The Women Of Cyberpunk
The Women of Cyberpunk
Women have always been on the fringes of the science fiction writing community. Not only have
there been few female writers, but few female characters of substance have explored the universe,
battled aliens, or discovered new technologies. Even in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein (1818),
considered by some to be the first science fiction novel, Elizabeth, who is the major female
character, does little more than decorate Victor s arm, snag his heart, and eventually contribute to
his self destruction. Women were virtually non existent in the Golden Age SF (1938 1949)
writings; except perhaps as trophies to be rescued, or smoldering, sexual beings that really didn t
contribute to the overall plot other than as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Target specs on a combat that isn t in the book
Waste my time and you won t profile at all, said Molly, leaning across his scarred plastic desk to
prod him with her forefinger.
So maybe you want to buy your microwaves somewhere else? He was a tough kid, behind his Mao
job. A Nighttowner by birth, probably.
Her hand blurred down the front of his jacket, completely severing the lapel without rumpling the
fabric.
So we got a deal or what?
Deal, he said, staring at his ruined lapel with what he must have hoped was only polite interest.
Deal. (Gibson, 38)
In the above passage, it is evident that Molly, however, would not have the ability to truly break
away from the female SF character stereotype without her body s enhancements. She is the more
physically powerful because of them. Technically, she could be considered a cyborg in feminist and
technological theorist Donna Haraway s view because of these enhancements:
Chiba. Yeah. See, Molly s been to Chiba, too. And she showed me her hands, fingers slightly
spread. Her fingers were slender, tapered, very white against the polished burgundy nails. Ten
blades snicked straight out from their recesses beneath her nails, each one a narrow, double edged
scalpel in pale blue steel. (Gibson 37)

Klemens Von Metternich
KLEMENS VON METTERNICH Statesman; born at Coblenz, 15 May, 1773; died at Vienna,
11 June, 1859; son of Count Georg, Austrian envoy of the Court of Vienna at Coblenz, and Maria
Beatrix, nГ©e Countess von Kageneck. He studied philosophy at the University of Strasburg,
and law and diplomacy at Mainz. A journey to England completed his education. Metternich
began his public career in 1801 as Austrian ambassador to the Court of Dresden. Though he had
for several years prepared himself for a diplomatic career, he was especially fortunate in being
immediately appointed to so prominent a position. Only two years later he was made ambassador
to Berlin. The emperor considered it very important to have a minister at Berlin who could gain the

Napoleon let his hat, which he was holding under his arm, drop to the floor. Metternich did not
stoop to pick it up. The emperor also tried persuasion. Your sovereigns , he said, who were born
to their thrones cannot comprehend the feelings that move me. To them it is nothing to return to
their capitals defeated. But I am a soldier. I need honour and glory. I cannot reappear among my
people devoid of prestige. I must remain great, admired, covered with glory. For that reason, he
said, he could not accept the proposed conditions of peace. Metternich replied, But when will this
condition of things cease, in which defeat and victory are alike reasons for continuing these
dismal wars? If victorious, you insist upon the fruits of your victory; if defeated, you are
determined to rise again. Napoleon made various offers for Austria s neutrality, but Metternich
declined all bargaining, and Napoleon s oft repeated threat, We shall meet in Vienna , was his
farewell to Metternich. Metternich gave the signal for war, and Schwarzenberg led the decisive
battle of Leipzig. The Emperor Francis raised his beloved Count Metternich to the rank of Austrian

Social Media s Impact On Society
In today s society not all people welcome social media into their lives and thus restrict their
access and or involvement when it comes to the abundances of social media outlets. However,
social media has indeed taken the lives of our children, adolescents, and families by the collar.
Social media plays a pivotal part affecting everyday life as we know it today. Despite these claims,
the advancements in technology have evolved, thus creating a society that thrives on the
dependency of social media outlets. This addiction is the craving of being instantly connected to
everything and everyone. Being connected and having instant access to this so called Information
Highway, surely allows for convenience and simplicity, but this also... Show more content on

Over the past years, social media truly has become something much more than just the typical
esoteric jumble of technologies, but instead has driven contemporary culture offering sites and
services to accommodate everyone and everything your heart desires. With advancements in
technology becoming the forefront of our information and communication ecosystem. These social
networking platforms are literally taking over the business arena becoming the driving force in
determining whether a business is staying relevant, not to mention taking advantage of emerging
opportunities. As of today there have been a surge of social media outlets which have made their
way into mainstream society. Today, many of these platforms are commonly known as Facebook,
Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, LinkedIn, LinkedIn Pulse, Google+, Xing, Renren,
Disqus, Tumblr, Twoo, MyMFB, YouTube and Vine. When browsing these particular sites people
become connected to a much larger community with a press of a button. These online or virtual
communities occasionally trump the populations of countries. However, such ease with these
casual connections in a very fast paced technological world also has many downsides. Social media
has made it much more complicated for people to distinguish between meaningful and productive
relationships in which we foster and cherish for the long haul versus the numerous casual
relationships formed through social media.

Curse of Dimensionality Makes CBIR System is Necessary...
This is known as Curse of Dimensionality , which states that the number of examples necessary to
reliable generalization grows exponentially with the number of dimensions. Learn ability
necessitates dimensionality reduction, which is the process of reducing the number of random
features under consideration during image retrieval(Roweis and Saul, 2000).
In large multimedia databases, high dimensional representation is computationally intensive and
most users are unwilling to wait for results for a long time. Thus, for storage and retrieval efficiency
concerns, dimensionality reduction in CBIR systems is necessary. Example of these techniques
includes Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and Linear

1.3.4.Indexing
When manipulating massive image databases, a good indexing is necessary. Processing every
single item in a database, when performing queries, is extremely inefficient and slow. When
working with images, the feature vectors are used as the basis of the index. Popular multi
dimensional indexing methods include the R tree and the R* tree algorithms (Long et al., 2003).
The Self Organizing Map (SOM) is also one of the indexing structures (Laaksonen et al., 2000).
Usage of indexing techniques during searching reduces processing time and thus retrieves images
quickly.
1.4.PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF CBIR
Research and development issues in CBIR cover a range of topics which shares with mainstream
image processing and information retrieval. Some of the most important are:
to understand image users needs and information seeking behaviour
to identify suitable ways of describing image content
to extract features from raw images
to provide compact storage for large image databases
to match query and stored images in a way that reflects human similarity decisions
to efficiently access stored images by content
to provide usable human interfaces to CBIR systems
A wide range of possible applications for CBIR technology has been identified (Gudivada and
Raghavan, 1995). This section presents

Georgia Vacation Essay Geography
Georgia Destination Essay Georgia contains some of the world s famous attractions. Many
people from all over the world come to see them. Some famous attractions located in Georgia are
the Amicalola Falls State Park, Six Flags over Georgia, Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain, and
the World of Coca Cola. Three of my favorite places in Georgia that I have been to are Stone
Mountain, Amicalola falls, and Six Flags over Georgia. Stone Mountain is home to the world s

very long and it was also very hot. We also went to Hurricane Harbor. It is located inside of Six

The waterslides are called Bonzai Pipelines. It also has something that is called the Tsunami

water blasters, climbing nets, and waterslides. If you are in the mood to get drenched, you can

Essay on Steroids in Baseball
Steroids in Baseball
Today in the United States, millions and millions of kids, teens, and adults watch and play in
the sport of baseball. It is probably the number one sport looked upon and what is happening to it
is a bit discouraging. Players have started cheating by using steroids to help them play stronger
and better. They are in league where you have to be the best at what you do to play, and if your
using drugs to cheat your way in, then it ruins the ethics of the game of baseball.
Baseball first started in the mid 1800 s as game for people to play and have fun in. From then until
a few years ago it has continued that way until drugs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The MLB is just a giant business. How can you see it otherwise? Steroids in baseball have
changed dramatically over the past ten years and a major factor impacting the changes may be
players use of performance enhancing drugs. Do these players not realize that they are cheating?
They are putting a drug into their bodies to make them better then everyone else. In less than
four years Babe Ruth s single season record of 60 home runs has been broken by Sammy Sosa,
Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds. These were three of the players who were faced with a charge of
using steroids and notice how they are three of the top hitters. McGwire just retired too, I think
steroid use, and people finding out had a smidge to do with it. All these players aren t losers, they
are all stars and looked upon from all over and know are being accused of cheating. (Kingsbury)
Today s players are bigger and stronger than the baseball heroes of yesterday and many sports
writers and baseball analysts suspect the reason involves the use of anabolic androgenic steroids.
U.S. lawmakers are considering a national anti steroid policy to discourage players from using
illegal performance enhancing drugs. (Miga) Anabolic androgenic steroids are man made
substances related to male sex hormones. These steroids are used by athletes to artificially raise
testosterone levels in the body. Raising testosterone levels allows the user to train longer and
harder, increase

Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber s songs. I don t know why they get so much hate, but putting

the discoveries in physics of Sir Isaac Newton finally laid to rest the idea that the Earth might be
the center of the universe; the (study of living things/qualities of living things) of Charles Darwin
made it hard to believe that human beings were different in kind from the rest of the animal
kingdom; and, later, the mental explanations of Sigmund Freud left it impossible to hope even that
human beings were owners of a basically clear and sensible mind. Organizing scientific history in

The Evolution Of Young Earth Creationism
Young earth creationism is what most people mean when referring to creationism. This is primarily
due to the fact that the creationists most visible in the public eye during the creation evolution
debate were most likely to hold young earth creationist views. Additionally, the terms recent earth or
recent creation have been used to refer to this same position. These terms clearly define their
position as one in which the creation of the world occurred somewhat recently, that is, the world is
young. However, it obviously doesn t provide us with much information beyond that. To begin with,
how young is the world? In order to help answer this and other questions concerning young earth
creationism, biologist and philosopher of science... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next point Nelson and Reynolds make is one of disagreement between young earth and
progressive creationists. Concerning the impact of the curse in Genesis 3, young earth creationists
typically view this point to be the entrance of all death and suffering to the world. Progressive
creationists, however, consider there to be a long period of time between the creation of the world
and the introduction of sin into the world. Because of this length of time, progressive creationists
consider animal death and suffering to have occurred long before the first humans sinned. The
question of animal death and suffering prior to the fall of mankind is one that will be discussed in
further detail when looking at the old earth positions
According to Nelson and Reynolds, the strongest point of contention between young earth and
progressive creationists is that of the flood. Young earth creationists generally view the account of
the flood as actually having occurred. Other positions, however, progressive included, consider it a
metaphor, or myth which has theological implications, but does not describe any actual historical
events.

The African American Labor Market
from leasing out laborers to desperate white southerners who needed to upkeep their crops and coal
mines.
Although some economic historians (DeCanio, Higgs; 1975, 1977) have concluded that laws
aimed at repressing blacks were largely ineffective because of economic competition amongst
blacks, Jennifer Roback of the University of Chicago Law Review asserts that the convict lease
system served as a exploitive byproduct of white southerners desire to proclaim economic
dominance over the African Americanlabor market. The motives of lessees were not solely
economically driven they were racially discriminatory practices with the intent of keeping African
Americans as subservient citizens. Along the way, white southerners realized that they could use
large groups of criminalized African Americans to build infrastructure, such as railroads, to mine
coal and iron, make turpentine, clear land, and of course, grow cotton. Similarly, state governments
realized that they could economically profit while socially benefiting from having African
Americans off the streets and back on plantations. Since nearly all convicts were black, few whites
cared about what happened to them. And if the supply of convicts fell below the demand,
legislators and sheriffs stood ready to increase the supply.
In a sense, pig laws, vagrancy laws, and convict leasing served as negative incentives to freed
persons who were hesitant to enter into labor contracts that offered low pay, long hours, and poor

The Importance Of Dance
I have always loved to dance. When I was in my younger years I used to frequent dances. I was
even involved in my high school s show choir and my high school s musical every year. So, it s a
no brainer that I include dance as part of my exercise when I m fulfilling my twice a week, 30
minutes of activity. Walking your dog or sprinting around your house can get boring so I use
dancing as a way to shake it up and have fun with my exercise. Because I love to danceso much, I
wanted to dive deeper into how beneficial it really is for my body and possibly my mind.
By the time I m done with 30 minutes of dancing I can tell that I ve done some sort of workout; I
m sweating, my heart rate is up, and my energy level is up. It turns out I m not just thinking I m
getting a decent workout, I am actually getting a decent workout. According to John Porcari,

good moderate to vigorous intensity workout, (Abbate). It s good to note though, you should be
including things like lunges and core exercises to get the most out a dance session workout.
Also, you must make sure you are moving at a fast enough pace to get your heart beat up. You
aren t going to get much out of it if you are moving side to side very slowly. Using dance as an
exercise is good for your heart, it makes you stronger, and it can help with balance and
coordination. Participating in a supervised 30 minute dance class can actually

Left Hand Of Darkness By Ursula Le Guin
Before women like Bruce Jenner and Laverne Cox found the mainstream spotlight, gender and
sexuality were both, and still are, very concrete ideas and those who didn t conform to these ideas
were considered taboo and more often than not shamed into hiding their sexuality and whom they
were in order to fit in with the rest of the world. It was only recently that sexuality and gender
identification became a more mainstream topic in the pop culture world. Before Bruce and
Laverne there was Ursula Le Guin s novel, Left Hand of Darkness, in which she subliminally
addresses themes of gender and sexuality in a way that contradicted the mainstream s
unchangeable ideas towards gender and sexuality. She used her book to defy the gender, sexual
and sociopolitical binary in a time that was far less welcoming towards people who didn t fit
within the closet of normality. Even though her book is a science fiction novel about and alien
planet and was first published in 1969 many ideas she touches on are completely relevant and
relate back to our Earth society. There are quite a few lessons our Earth society could pick up and
learn from Le Guin s book.
Le Guin s novel is about a male human, Genly Ai, who is sent to an alien planet, Geth, with the
mission to convince the planet to join the growing intergalactic organization, like the usual sci fi
novel it is filled with adventure, danger. What is so unique to her novel is the society Le Guin

Background And Credentials Of My Great Leaders
Now comes the best part of the paper where I have the esteem opportunity to give the background
and credentials of my great leaders. They each are three excellent coaches of dominate teams in
the sports industry. My leaders are: Phil Jackson (Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and New
York Knicks), Bill Belichick(New England Patriots), and Nick Saban (Alabama Crimson Tide).
Phil Jackson was born Philip Douglas Jackson on September 17, 1945, in Deer Lodge, Montana
to two Assemblies of God ministers. Jackson and his siblings were raised in a household where
they were not allowed to watch movies or television, and couldn t even dance for enjoyment.
During his high school career, he played basketball, football and baseball but only had the desire
to play basketball after graduation and received a scholarship from North Dakota to play there.
Although his college career was short, he helped his team win third and fourth place finishes in
the NCAA Division II championships. In the 1967 NBA Draft, he was selected by the New York
Knicks in the second round. Even though he wasn t an elite superstar, the Knicks were able to win
two NBA Championships in 1970 and 1973 against the Los Angeles Lakerswhile Jackson was a
member of the team. After retiring from the NBA as a player in 1980, he decided to pursue the
opportunity to be a coach. He received his first coaching assignment with the New Jersey Nets as

Us Soldiers And Nazi Concentration Camps
US Soldiers Reaction to Nazi Concentration Camps
When we walked through those gates...1 saw in front of me the walking dead. There they stood.
They were skin and bone. They had skeletal faces with deep set eyes. Their heads had been clean
shaved. They were holding each other for stability. I couldn t understand this. I just couldn t. So
I walked around the camp; I wanted to...understand more. I went to a building where they stored
body parts from medical experiments in jars of formaldehyde. I saw fingers and eyes and the
hearts and genitals. I saw mounds of little children s clothing. Little children who didn t survive.
I saw...all of those things that belong to little children. But I never saw a child....If this could
happen here, it could happen anywhere. It could happen to me. .one often wonder what I would
have done if, in 1939, my family and I had been caught up in this and for all those years nobody,
not nobody, would help us. I would have been a bitter man... This statement was spoken by Leon
Ball, a liberator of Buchenwald, the first concentration camp to be discovered by the American
forces ( Oh, No, It Can t Be ). When the United States army discovered the concentration camps, it
refuted their previous thoughts that everything heard was exaggerated; these exaggerations were
now seen as understatements. Though the troops who had seen the horrific images of the camps
and survivors had much sympathy for the survivors, it was lacking that sympathy once the United

Examples Of Social Classes In The Hound Of The Baskervilles

There is a huge difference between poor people and rich people but in this novel apart from their
differences there are some similarities between rich and poor people. Their fear against the curse

Durkheim s Theories Of A Capitalist Society
Many sociological theorists who were relevant over a century ago are also still applicable to
today s society. Whilst parts of the theory and the context of the theories may have quite dated,
some parts do still reign true. Some theories however, like Marx s ideas of a capitalist society,
have become more influential in today s economic climate. Perspectives like Durkheim s theories
of suicide, Marx s theories on Capitalismand changes to economic status, Weber s input on
Capitalism and his influential work on Religion. The ideas this essay will be focusing upon are the
iconic theories, that the previously mentioned sociologists are known for and showing how these
theories have progressed through the time. Emile Durkheim is a prominent figure in Sociology, and
is often referred to as one of the founding fathers of the subject, alongside Marx and Weber. This
is due to his work on studying Suicide in his book Suicide: A Study in Sociology , this work was
monumental in the field of Sociology as Durkheim was the first sociologist to suggest that society
can affect what is probably the most private action a person can perform; ending their life.
In his study he found that certain social groups where more likely to commit suicide than others;
for example, Protestants were more likely to commit suicide than Catholics; as the Catholic
Religion integrated its members more strongly into a religious community (Haralambos and
Horlborn, 2000: 975). Durkheim based this upon the

Advantages Of Dispensationalism
1.Dispensationalism A Legitimate Theological System
Dispensationalism is a word that most theologians would sneer at because it is seen as a
perversion of the Scriptures. These theologians would not recognize the history of
dispensationalism purely because it would be seen as a relatively new system of interpreting
Scripture. Dispensational theology receives a lot of criticism because it is not properly understood.
Dispensationalism is mainly conservative in biblical interpretation and while there seems to be a
negative connotation to the word Evangelical ; those who subscribe to a dispensational view point
are evangelical Christians in a sense.

Dispensationalism depends primarily on Rightly dividing the Word as found in 2 Timothy 2:15.
Other distinctions could be the difference between the nation of Israel and the Body of Christ. This
means assessing the Scriptures just like any other piece of literature and to place the text within
their primary meaning and context. Too often with many theologians, verses are quoted out of

Furthermore, due to yearly sporting events such as UEFA Champions league, Super Bowl and
the enormous interest in sport generally, the demand for sport products are high. The sports
apparel industry is perceived to be a difficult industry to enter. The high degree of competiveness
and the need of innovating thinking are undeniable. In addition, several incumbents have
reached large scale production and as a result it will be expensive for new entrants to fight for
market share. Many of the producers use famous athletes to front their products. The market
powers of such athletes are priceless and help boost their sales. With regard to the financial
crisis, looking at profitability ratios and sales, it is visible that the industry and the companies

The Walt Disney Effect
Thousands of books, documentaries, and television series about Disneyland have flooded the
market since its opening and have provided evidence that would suggest the Disney Company to
have created not only the first, but the most successful theme park in history. Walt Disney created a
niche in what was a dying industry leading to Disneyland s success that is still observed today as
the most popular and most recognizable park in the park entertainment industry. Although
Disneyland was not the first amusement park, Walt Disneydid perfect the idea of an amusement
park and give birth to the first ever theme park which blossomed into the theme park industry. The
influence Disneyland commands as the first theme park has impacted American pop culture,
society, economics, marketing, entertainment and tourism by creating what has been called the
Disney effect . This Disney effect has been argued between historians, economist, and psychologists
since Disneyland s opening in 1955.
How could one park cause such a drastic effect across a significant number of subjects? What
made it different from other amusement parks to provide such success that was never before
seen? By exploring and analyzing work from Disney historians like Michael Barrier, Steven Watts,

A New Job At The Bay Harbor Yacht Club
This past summer, I landed a new job at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. There are three restaurants
that were incorporated in the Yacht club; The Lange Center, Quarter Deck, and the Beach House.
The Beach House was where I worked at with two others. Together, we accomplished many things
for ourselves and the restaurant itself. In order to do that, we had certain unsaid rules that all three
of us abided by. At which I will bring up later on. Eventually, we became what you call an activity
system. If you do not know what an activity system is; it is groups of people doing work together,
who have common motives and processes to achieve those motives. That activity system turned us
into a well put together team just through the three months of summer. We had Karl, who was the
boss/manager of the kitchen and Josh who was the other personwho ran the kitchen with me. Josh
and I were not the ones in charge but Karl always made sure that we had say in everything that
happened because ultimately, for three people to run a kitchen, you need to all agree on something.
Between the three of us, we made that place make the most members happy, and the most money
throughout the summer for the Yacht club. Not only because of how hard we worked to make sure
people were satisfied but because of how well we communicated with each other. Communication is
key in every group to succeed in their motives, especially for this activity system.

Uses Of Dogs During The 20th Century
Uses for Dogs Both Today and Previously: Looking back a few hundred years, it is quite clear
how drastically our use for dogs has changed. During the previous centuries, a dog was typically
used in a working role to help where needed on farms and around the house. Mouse problems and
use as a guard were common tasks for many breeds. While many dogs were still owned for their
companionship, there was more of an emphasis on the dogbeing used for a specific purpose.
Another interesting change to examine is the rights dogs had compared to present day. During
the 20th Century and before, most dogs slept outside underneath the porch or in doghouses.
Owners would never think to let them inside to sleep, let alone on their bed. If I were to ask my
grandparents if they let their dogs inside at night to sleep with them I would get an immediate
No. This doesn t mean that my grandparents hated dogs, they merely served a different purpose
than many do today. In contrast to the use of dogs in working roles, many dogs in the United
States today are used purely for companionship. As technology and scientific research have
advanced, we ve discovered the benefits a dog can have on a person s state of mind. The American
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists numerous health benefits to owning a pet.
Owning a companion animal has the potential to decrease your blood pressure, triglyceride, and
cholesterol levels. Dogs also require varying amounts of exercise depending on

Why People Should Go To College
One of the first colleges ever created was established in 1636 by the vote of the great and general
court of Massachusetts Bay Colony, and was called Harvard (Harvard University). Many teenagers
believe that college can be very difficult so they forget about the benefits that a person receives after
attending. Not only teenagers believe this but also many adults that did not have the opportunity to

what they say about college is that it is difficult, boring and tiring of the work. People should go to
college for greater success because it gives a better chance of landing a job, increases a person s

How Literacy Affected My Life
How has literacy impacted my life? From learning to read sight words and write sentences to
progressing all the way to thick chapter books and lengthy essays, literacy has been a long and
incredibly significant journey in my life. Literacy has been a fantastic and influential adventure
because of exciting personal experiences that first took root at age two, the inspiration of an
elementary school teacher, Mrs. Peake, and memorable events including the Accelerated Reader
program and discovering my favorite childhood book series. My literacy narrative first unfolded
in the playroom of my childhood home when I was an inquisitive two year old. My parents would

to mention, students that had high amounts of points were eligible to earn prizes, which of
course caught my attention. This program gave me a greater appreciation for literacy, motivated
me to read constantly, and quite frankly, brought out my competitive side. In the same way,
another event that molded my literacy experience, was when the Junie B. Jones book series was
placed into my hands because it quickly became my favorite childhood series. As I read the
series, I constantly found myself spontaneously laughing out loud as I read because of the
hilarity of the carefree character, Junie B. Jones. This series marked an enormous milestone in
my literacy adventure because it was not only my favorite childhood series, but it was actually the
first series I ever read and led to me discovering numerous other series that I still revel in today.
Overall, these events have been key to forming the entirety of my literacy

My Reflective Essay Writing
Before this semester, my essay writing would have been considered rather poor. This was because I
did not understand the various components of a properly written and accompany them to
effectively communicate my ideas. I lacked the most in keeping the audience involved hence,
catching and maintaining their attention, to my writingfrom the introduction to the conclusion. To
me, writing was more complicated than a speech since a speech involved direct audience who
the speaker can gauge their feelings. I took writing as a difficult task since it involved indirect
audience and ensuring that I meet the demands of such indirect audience, brought more
confusion. Though the case, this past semester s class has really improved my skills in writing. I
have learned to to make an effective written piece. Through the various learning experiences such
as individual readings, professional feedback and many others, I have been able to interact with
diverse knowledge sources which have made me much better by removing the confusion and
negative picture I had with regard to writing. The first area of my improvement is on the
organization skills which I have gained, enabling me to develop an excellent structure for my
essays. In my first essays, I was struggling to build an introduction that would not only be clear to
the readers but also cultivate their interest to read the rest of the article. My introduction thus
appeared ambiguous and was very general as from the feedback I would regularly obtain from my
Instructor. Through engaging in regular essaywriting, this has really changed. This is evident in

how they treat water contamination which was the subject of my writing. In this easy I was able to
introduce the readers to the controversy that had me to write the paper i.e. both leaving the water

Classical Utilitarianism In The Meatpacking Factory
Question #2: The Meatpacking Factory
According to classical utilitarianism, we must allocate the total amount of happiness among as
many people as possible (Pojman, 218). When analyzing whether to allow the Islamic employees
the right to pray on break, utilitarians may argue that allowing Islamic employees, who only make
up 20% of the factory population, the right to pray is a decision that focuses on the minority as
opposed to what is best for the majority. Furthermore, there is evidence that allowing Islamic
employees to take flexible breaks hinders the factory s productivity, which damages profits, and in
turn, hurts not only the factory employees but also the shareholders in the company. Additionally,
the issue is also forming tensions between the Islamic and non Islamic employees. For all these
reasons, utilitarians could argue that it is better for the majority if Windham did not allow the
Islamic workers to pray during work. However, this is an incomplete argument because it fails to
account for the potential consequences. Should Windham choose to violate the agreement he has
established with the Islamic workers, he runs the risk of being sued for violating his agreement with
the Islamic employees. Furthermore, Windham risks external organizations becoming involved
because he is violating the workers rights to practice their faith. Both of these ramifications would
not only hurt his company because of negative publicity but would also hurt key stakeholders
because

How Did Gilgamesh Become A Hero
Since long ago, people carried an image of what it means to be a hero. It is evident in some great
books one might even say. As in The Epic of Gilgamesh, Antigone, and The Iliad, heroism is
displayed and exalted, but what does being a hero mean? Overarchingly, in regards to these works,
the heroes earn their titles as heroes by notably doing what is right when the time is right, with
humane purpose, and an everlasting message. However, Gilgamesh, Antigone, and Akhilleus, being
different in their purposes, everlasting messages, type of heroism as whole, can not compare in
regards to heroic status.

Gilgamesh displays this growth at the end of the Epic as he admires his city, Survey its

tyrant, was what his message was. What truly made Gilgamesh a hero was his transformation from
being a tyrant to a good king. Gilgamesh lived on through the foundations of his Kingdom, in a
way, making him mortal. As people continue to study the epic, one might even suggest Gilgamesh
obtained immortality as being remembered a hero.
Antigone too was a hero, however, in a different way. While displayed a message, she did good,
and had purpose, it was all slightly different than Gilgamesh. Antigone stood against the King,
Creon, her uncle, who ruled tyrannically. With this, her message shared some parallel to
Gilgamesh, suggesting that if a Tyrant is in power, change is needed. She criticized her uncle
for not being a king of the people, as he made it illegal to bury one of her brothers. Despite Creon
being king, she expressed, But he s no right to keep me from what s mine (Antigone line 60).

Rhetorical Analysis Of Holes Then Watching The Film ...
Holes Persuasive Essay
After reading Louis Sachar s novel Holes then watching the film adaptation by Andrew Davis, I can
without a doubt say that I enjoyed watching the movie more than reading the novel. I found the
novel to be detailed, however, boring and unenjoyable due to its slow pace and confusing structure.
When I watched the movie, I really liked the emotion and passion, the simplicity and clear structure
and the entertaining and amusing action and comedy aspects. These are the factors that contribute
to why I believe that the film Holes is more enjoyable than the novel Holes .
Whilst reading the novel, I never experienced any passion or emotion. I felt that the novel was
descriptive but just not captivating to audiences. When reading Holes I definitely found myself
losing focus and interest. This may be due to the slow pace and difficulty to picture each scene
realistically. Time after time, I found myself unengaged and unwilling to continue the novel due to
its lack of emotional description. However, in the movie, actually watching the scenes be bought to
life engaged audiences and, during major scenes in the plot, enhanced the audiences experience
using drama, realism and passion.
The first example of a scene that is represented better in the film than compared to the novel, is
when Hector Zeroni runs away from the camp. In the novel, while the boys are digging holes,
Hector is involved in a fight with ZigZag after ZigZag threatens Stanley. During the

Syllable Division
A BRIEF STUDY ON SYLLABLE DIVISION: HELPING EFL LEARNERS
Abstract: This article will present some considerations on syllable division in order to help EFL
learners. Some theories will be presented so that it is possible to check the various studies on such
important topic. A scheme about separating the syllables will be shown and a topic on

Key Words: SyllableDivision. Theories. Syllable Structure Introduction
The syllable is a basic unit of speech studied on both the phonetic and phonological levels of
analysis. For learners of English as a foreign language it is such a hard task to define and identify
what a syllable is, even because there are no universally agreed upon phonetic definitions of what it
is. So ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

comes to delimiting separate syllables.
Syllable structure
Hierarchical Structure of the Syllable
Most of modern phonological theories agree that the syllable has constituent or hierarchical rather
than linear structure. The syllable (conventionally marked as small Greek sigma: #963;) has two
immediate constituents (it branches into two elements, to put it in another way) В– the Onset (O),
which includes any consonants that precede the nuclear element (the vowel), and the Rhyme (R),

Crime Scene Searches
The Legal Challenges to Crime Scene Searches The examination of the crime scene is the most
vital phase conducted at the scene of a crime. Investigation of crime scene is more than just
showing up, taking a few photos, and calling it a day; there is more to it that. There are some legal
challenges to crimescene investigation that unfortunately as vital as this portion is can get screwed
up sometimes, sometimes even intentionally. Throughout an investigation mistakes, ethics, and
biases play a vital role. When mistakes or bad ethnical decisions occur and individuals either gets
off on a technicality or possibly are falsely accused through bad evidence; these types of blunders
expose why it is critical that a crime scene is processed properly.

European Citizenship
1.Summary
There have been a lot of contributions by scholars to the widely discussed topic of European
citizenship. In his article Espen D.H. Olsen argues in contrast to many others, that the Maastricht
Treaty was not year zero in the EU citizenship discourse (Olsen 2008, p. 40). His study deals with
the time before the general discussion over the European citizenship started in the 1970s (cf. ibid, p.
41ff.) The article s main finding states that European citizenship has been in existence from the
European integration s starting point, the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). Olsen
defines his concept of citizenship as a status of individuals in relation to a political unit (ibid, p. 41)
which he divides in the four dimensions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
53). That is clearly contradicting to his own finding before and generally seems to be too big of a
stretching of his concept. He merely speculates about the status of membership in that case. It can
also be argued that the coal and steel workers were of course included in the wording of the
contract, because it was their industries that were being integrated. But an equivalence of the coal
and steel workers to European Citizens on such thin arguments is rather far fetched.
Secondly, during applying the membership dimension on the Rome Treaties, Olsen again confuses
workers and producers as members or citizens, although he himself, as before, states that the
prevailing image is one of a focus on individuals as workers and producers (ibid, p. 47). So by
wrongly applying the membership dimension, Olsen again disproves his own argument.
Thirdly, Olsen analyses preambles of the aforementioned treaties and documents on several
occasions. Unfortunately he only derives speculations and conjectures out them. E.g. the preamble
of the free movement Regulation 1612/68 states that the freedom of movement constitutes a
fundamental right of workers and their families as well as it gives a guarantee for the possibility of
improving [the worker s] living and working conditions and promoting his social advancement
(ibid, p. 50). The author immediately jumps to the conclusion that this is somehow a kind of
membership that even relates

Child Hunger As A Rhetoric Of Advocacy For Young Children
Advocacy
There are many different topics of advocacy one could focus on. While researching different
topics, I looked into activities and other information regarding advocacy ideas. I felt most
compelled reading about child hunger and poverty statistics. This information was almost
overwhelming and I felt as if I needed to know more in order to advocate for those who need it or
for those who do not know about this topic. With this, I was hoping inform others of the topic such
as parents and family members. I was also looking to help the young children in my room learn
about this topic, appropriately.
Being an advocate, I was looking to spread the word on child hunger and feed the fight against
child hunger. I wanted to explain the facts, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Cyan s Sunridge Chestnut
Blaze Cyan is a detailed printmaker who works in etching. His artwork beautifully discovers the
intricate beauty of the tree. Starting out by sketching with technical pens and watercolors, Cyan
reworks his pieces until he is able to make them unique. He uses old photographs to create the
artwork, to inspire his imagination and to create new possibilities. Using the structure, shape, and
texture of trees, he creates an image with unity and diversity. Beginning with the sugar lift and
aquatint method, Cyan creates a backdrop that varies in value in the tree. After etching the first
time, hard opaque ground covers the plate, which allows Cyan to create numerous linework. Cyan
uses black and white in his pieces to emphasize the complex design and add a impressive quality
to his work. Sunridge Chesnut created in 2011, is one of Cyan s... Show more content on

His desire is for the viewer to appreciate not only the tree form itself, but also it s character.
Inspiration for creating his pieces come from Victorian illustrators and oriental prints. By
looking at these resources, Cyan came to the realization that no two will ever be alike. Each
piece has unique diversity that sets the individual artwork apart. Sunridge Chestnut illustrates
this idea beautifully as lines are used in different directions and the tree takes on almost a new
shape of its own. One can look at this piece for hours on end, without truly discovering the full
artwork in its totality. Cyan really desires the audience to almost be lost within the picture,
continuing to look for new additions. In Hallowed Etching, Cyan uses multiple shapes and
values to support this idea. One reason why Cyan picked trees as subject matter was because its
growth is gradual over time. Even at the end of human life, a tree will (most likely) still be in
place, calmly growing. The character of every tree evolves into something stronger, deeper, and
represents a ideal that is globally

ways to kill people that weren t considered a superior race . The Jews at Bergen Belsen had heard
of the gas chambers and how they looked like normal showers so they began to get scared. They
were told to take a shower once a month and thinking about the chambers can make them
anxious. All they were told was that they were to get undressed and to take a shower but they
didn t know what was going to come out of the shower head. It was either water like they were
being told, or it could ve been Zyklon B, the poisonous gas used to kill hundreds of Jews. This is
important to know because many mass amounts of people were killed by the place they were
told to take a shower in. Having this happen at other concentration camps scares Marion and her
family because they don t truly know if Bergen Belsen is one of the very few places that doesn t

The Movie The Box
The Game
The box itself paints itself as the front of a horror book from the 80s or 90s, with a low angle
shot of an old house that is backlit by creepy green fog, and a full moon peers through the clouds.
This game is meant to be horror, and the players are supposed to know exactly that going in.
Like a group of dumb kids who go into the abandoned house on their street, when setting up, each
player finds themselves playing the role of one of 12 different people standing inside of the
foyer a decrepit old mansion (presumably on a hill). The players then have the task of exploring
said creepy mansion, uncovering tiles and finding items or events that happen in each of the
rooms. The characters gain and lose some of their stats based on these events and items, allowing
them to either become more powerful than they were initially upon entering the house, or it may
end up killing their character if any of the stats reach zero. The other possible things a player might
find when looking around the house are omens. These are like events, but the player has make a
haunt roll that gets harder for each omen that gets uncovered. If the player fails the haunt roll, the
second phase of the game begins.
The second phase incorporates the betrayal part of the name. The rules of the game select one of
the players to be the traitor, based on what omen was drawn, and where. The player that was
selected by the game goes off and reads their own version the the rules, while the rest

Reno V. ACLU Essay
In March of 1996, there was a federal court case of Reno v. ACLU, in which the American Library
Association had expert witnesses testifying on their behalf against the Communications Decency
Act in favor of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) among other organizations. This is
considered the first Supreme Court ruling on the guidelines for materials circulating via the
Internet. One of those expert witnesses was Robert Croneberger, who demonstrated to the three

Outsourcing Is Becoming A Norm
Introduction airline outsourcing
Outsourcing is defined as the decision to buy goods and services from external sources rather than
producing them in house when internal provision is not justified in light of existing or anticipated
business condition (Leenders Nollett, 1984). It is a common solution to outsource non strategic
business functions in order to diminish distraction and focuses managerial attention on operations
within the scope of a company s core competencies. This practice is widely adopted by today s
enterprises around the world, including airlines, to control costs, improve efficiencies and increase
profitability (Feldman, 1992). However, although airlines are outsourcing their operations in order
to remain competitive in increasingly challenging business environments, such practice may not
always be successful and its theoretical justification may not have been fully explored (Rieple
Helm, 2008). This paper studies the potential boundaries to what airlines can or cannot outsource in
their operations, and whether financial considerations are paramount in such decisions.
The benefits of airline outsourcing
Outsourcing is becoming a norm and the next critical business process many enterprises are
addressing (Lindegaard, 2004). Today s competitive commercial environment has forced airlines to
explore methods to improve efficiency, and one of the common solutions is to outsource non
strategic business functions. Reservation and ticketing, customer service

How Does Marjane Satrapi Use Feminism In Persepolis
Persepolis
In this essay, I will be writing about the concept toward feminism that is indicated in the book
Persepolis. The book is written by Marjane Satrapi who sees herself as a humanist not as a feminist,
but there is a lot of strong support from her towards women in general which is expressed in
Persepolis which is also a very personal book of hers that shows how her life was from a very
young age till a certain age. To define a little bit of Feminism or someone who is a feminist, is the
belief that women in general are equal and deserve to be equal in everyday s society just like men.
And it s a belief that Marjane Satrapi appears to support and argue about in her graphic novel in
many ways. For instance, Marji as how she is called in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Free Vegas Escorts
There are a few types of women who work as escorts in Las Vegas: girls working with an agency,
independents and freelancers. Freelance escorts in Vegas are found in area bars and casino

advantage of unsuspecting men who have not thought about the possible consequences of
working with someone who trolls public places seeking men in search of a private strip show.
We always urge gentlemen to exercise caution when aligning with **independent Vegas

  • 2. Free Will vs. Fate in The Winter s Tale Essay The Winter s Tale The Winter s Tale is one of jealousy, betrayal and redemption. While this story involves many characters and opens questions of the flaws in human nature and the power of forgiveness, there are two main characters of particular anomaly. The actions of Leontes and Perditain this play are unique unto themselves. As King, Leontes every decision weighs heavily upon the court and his country. As we have seen in several other plays by Shakespeare, when the King is in distress, Nature herself is disrupted. The cosmic connection between Leontes and Nature allows for the supernatural forces that are seen late in the play. He has the opportunity to use these forces to accomplish great things. Instead he chooses to let ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hunter considers Leontes actions to be the worst we have seen. He asserts the idea: Leontes is his own calumniator, and the most completely unexcused of all Shakespeare s humanum genus figures. Bertram has the complaisance of Parolles...and even Angelo and Antonio can be seen as tempted, the one by the beauty of Isabella, the other by the prospect of power. No one encourages or tempts Leontes, or lies to him. His sin is all his own work. (190) Leontes is clearly a creature of free will. His sins are grievous and yet he is redeemed in the end. Leontes has a free nature, thus enabling him to make both good and bad decisions. Since most of his decisions are bad, his free nature allows him to eventually see his errors, express sorrow and repent. . Hunter considers Leontes faults: With hatred in control of his mind, Leontes attempts to destroy the innocent to kill his best friend, his wife, and his own newborn child ...for this intended murder is `what Shakespeare makes the symbol of complete wickedness: to command to murder a child. In The Winter s Tale, infanticide takes on an added horror from the fact that the child is Leontes own. (192) The Winter s Tale hinges on the Order of Nature, thus calling into question the roles of free will and fate in human existence. Our two champions of these ideas are Leontes and Perdita. Leontes, for example, uses his powers, as king to exert his will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein-The Women Of Cyberpunk The Women of Cyberpunk Women have always been on the fringes of the science fiction writing community. Not only have there been few female writers, but few female characters of substance have explored the universe, battled aliens, or discovered new technologies. Even in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein (1818), considered by some to be the first science fiction novel, Elizabeth, who is the major female character, does little more than decorate Victor s arm, snag his heart, and eventually contribute to his self destruction. Women were virtually non existent in the Golden Age SF (1938 1949) writings; except perhaps as trophies to be rescued, or smoldering, sexual beings that really didn t contribute to the overall plot other than as the ... She is the more physically powerful because of them. Technically, she could be considered a cyborg in feminist and technological theorist Donna Haraway s view because of these enhancements: Chiba. Yeah. See, Molly s been to Chiba, too. And she showed me her hands, fingers slightly spread. Her fingers were slender, tapered, very white against the polished burgundy nails. Social Media s Impact On Society In today s society not all people welcome social media into their lives and thus restrict their access and or involvement when it comes to the abundances of social media outlets. However, social media has indeed taken the lives of our children, adolescents, and families by the collar. Social media plays a pivotal part affecting everyday life as we know it today. Despite these claims, the advancements in technology have evolved, thus creating a society that thrives on the dependency of social media outlets. • 7. Curse of Dimensionality Makes CBIR System is Necessary... This is known as Curse of Dimensionality , which states that the number of examples necessary to reliable generalization grows exponentially with the number of dimensions. Learn ability necessitates dimensionality reduction, which is the process of reducing the number of random features under consideration during image retrieval(Roweis and Saul, 2000). In large multimedia databases, high dimensional representation is computationally intensive and most users are unwilling to wait for results for a long time. Thus, for storage and retrieval efficiency concerns, dimensionality reduction in CBIR systems is necessary. Example of these techniques includes Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and Linear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1.3.4.Indexing When manipulating massive image databases, a good indexing is necessary. Processing every single item in a database, when performing queries, is extremely inefficient and slow. When working with images, the feature vectors are used as the basis of the index. Popular multi dimensional indexing methods include the R tree and the R* tree algorithms (Long et al., 2003). The Self Organizing Map (SOM) is also one of the indexing structures (Laaksonen et al., 2000). Usage of indexing techniques during searching reduces processing time and thus retrieves images quickly. 1.4.PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF CBIR Research and development issues in CBIR cover a range of topics which shares with mainstream image processing and information retrieval. Some of the most important are: to understand image users needs and information seeking behaviour to identify suitable ways of describing image content to extract features from raw images to provide compact storage for large image databases to match query and stored images in a way that reflects human similarity decisions to efficiently access stored images by content to provide usable human interfaces to CBIR systems A wide range of possible applications for CBIR technology has been identified (Gudivada and Raghavan, 1995). Although some economic historians (DeCanio, Higgs; 1975, 1977) have concluded that laws aimed at repressing blacks were largely ineffective because of economic competition amongst blacks, Jennifer Roback of the University of Chicago Law Review asserts that the convict lease system served as a exploitive byproduct of white southerners desire to proclaim economic dominance over the African Americanlabor market. The motives of lessees were not solely economically driven they were racially discriminatory practices with the intent of keeping African Americans as subservient citizens. Along the way, white southerners realized that they could use large groups of criminalized African Americans to build infrastructure, such as railroads, to mine coal and iron, make turpentine, clear land, and of course, grow cotton. Similarly, state governments realized that they could economically profit while socially benefiting from having African Americans off the streets and back on plantations. Since nearly all convicts were black, few whites cared about what happened to them. And if the supply of convicts fell below the demand, legislators and sheriffs stood ready to increase the supply. Because I love to danceso much, I wanted to dive deeper into how beneficial it really is for my body and possibly my mind. By the time I m done with 30 minutes of dancing I can tell that I ve done some sort of workout; I m sweating, my heart rate is up, and my energy level is up. It turns out I m not just thinking I m getting a decent workout, I am actually getting a decent workout. According to John Porcari, Ph.D., Dance cardio like Zumba and other popular forms we ve studied, it tends to be a pretty good moderate to vigorous intensity workout, (Abbate). It s good to note though, you should be including things like lunges and core exercises to get the most out a dance session workout. Also, you must make sure you are moving at a fast enough pace to get your heart beat up. You aren t going to get much out of it if you are moving side to side very slowly. Using dance as an exercise is good for your heart, it makes you stronger, and it can help with balance and coordination. Participating in a supervised 30 minute dance class can actually ... • 20. Left Hand Of Darkness By Ursula Le Guin Before women like Bruce Jenner and Laverne Cox found the mainstream spotlight, gender and sexuality were both, and still are, very concrete ideas and those who didn t conform to these ideas were considered taboo and more often than not shamed into hiding their sexuality and whom they were in order to fit in with the rest of the world. It was only recently that sexuality and gender identification became a more mainstream topic in the pop culture world. Before Bruce and Laverne there was Ursula Le Guin s novel, Left Hand of Darkness, in which she subliminally addresses themes of gender and sexuality in a way that contradicted the mainstream s unchangeable ideas towards gender and sexuality. She used her book to defy the gender, sexual and sociopolitical binary in a time that was far less welcoming towards people who didn t fit within the closet of normality. Even though her book is a science fiction novel about and alien planet and was first published in 1969 many ideas she touches on are completely relevant and relate back to our Earth society. There are quite a few lessons our Earth society could pick up and learn from Le Guin s book. Le Guin s novel is about a male human, Genly Ai, who is sent to an alien planet, Geth, with the mission to convince the planet to join the growing intergalactic organization, like the usual sci fi novel it is filled with adventure, danger. What is so unique to her novel is the society Le Guin creates for the alien inhabitants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ideas this essay will be focusing upon are the iconic theories, that the previously mentioned sociologists are known for and showing how these theories have progressed through the time. Emile Durkheim is a prominent figure in Sociology, and is often referred to as one of the founding fathers of the subject, alongside Marx and Weber. This is due to his work on studying Suicide in his book Suicide: A Study in Sociology , this work was monumental in the field of Sociology as Durkheim was the first sociologist to suggest that society can affect what is probably the most private action a person can perform; ending their life. In his study he found that certain social groups where more likely to commit suicide than others; for example, Protestants were more likely to commit suicide than Catholics; as the Catholic Religion integrated its members more strongly into a religious community (Haralambos and Horlborn, 2000: 975). During the previous centuries, a dog was typically used in a working role to help where needed on farms and around the house. Mouse problems and use as a guard were common tasks for many breeds. While many dogs were still owned for their companionship, there was more of an emphasis on the dogbeing used for a specific purpose. Another interesting change to examine is the rights dogs had compared to present day. During the 20th Century and before, most dogs slept outside underneath the porch or in doghouses. Owners would never think to let them inside to sleep, let alone on their bed. If I were to ask my grandparents if they let their dogs inside at night to sleep with them I would get an immediate No. This doesn t mean that my grandparents hated dogs, they merely served a different purpose than many do today. In contrast to the use of dogs in working roles, many dogs in the United States today are used purely for companionship. As technology and scientific research have advanced, we ve discovered the benefits a dog can have on a person s state of mind. The American Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists numerous health benefits to owning a pet. • 38. Classical Utilitarianism In The Meatpacking Factory Question #2: The Meatpacking Factory According to classical utilitarianism, we must allocate the total amount of happiness among as many people as possible (Pojman, 218). When analyzing whether to allow the Islamic employees the right to pray on break, utilitarians may argue that allowing Islamic employees, who only make up 20% of the factory population, the right to pray is a decision that focuses on the minority as opposed to what is best for the majority. Furthermore, there is evidence that allowing Islamic employees to take flexible breaks hinders the factory s productivity, which damages profits, and in turn, hurts not only the factory employees but also the shareholders in the company. Additionally, the issue is also forming tensions between the Islamic and non Islamic employees. For all these reasons, utilitarians could argue that it is better for the majority if Windham did not allow the Islamic workers to pray during work. However, this is an incomplete argument because it fails to account for the potential consequences. Should Windham choose to violate the agreement he has established with the Islamic workers, he runs the risk of being sued for violating his agreement with the Islamic employees. Furthermore, Windham risks external organizations becoming involved because he is violating the workers rights to practice their faith. Holes Persuasive Essay After reading Louis Sachar s novel Holes then watching the film adaptation by Andrew Davis, I can without a doubt say that I enjoyed watching the movie more than reading the novel. I found the novel to be detailed, however, boring and unenjoyable due to its slow pace and confusing structure. When I watched the movie, I really liked the emotion and passion, the simplicity and clear structure and the entertaining and amusing action and comedy aspects. These are the factors that contribute to why I believe that the film Holes is more enjoyable than the novel Holes . Whilst reading the novel, I never experienced any passion or emotion. I felt that the novel was descriptive but just not captivating to audiences. When reading Holes I definitely found myself losing focus and interest. The syllable (conventionally marked as small Greek sigma: #963;) has two immediate constituents (it branches into two elements, to put it in another way) В– the Onset (O), which includes any consonants that precede the nuclear element (the vowel), and the Rhyme (R), which includes the nuclear element (the vowel) as well as any marginal elements (consonants) that might follow it. The Rhyme, in turn, branches into Peak (P), also known as Nucleus (N), and Coda (Co). The Peak (Nucleus), as the designation suggests, represents the nuclear or most sonorous ... • 44. European Citizenship 1.Summary There have been a lot of contributions by scholars to the widely discussed topic of European citizenship. In his article Espen D.H. Olsen argues in contrast to many others, that the Maastricht Treaty was not year zero in the EU citizenship discourse (Olsen 2008, p. 40). His study deals with the time before the general discussion over the European citizenship started in the 1970s (cf. ibid, p. 41ff.) The article s main finding states that European citizenship has been in existence from the European integration s starting point, the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). Olsen defines his concept of citizenship as a status of individuals in relation to a political unit (ibid, p. 41) which he divides in the four dimensions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 53). That is clearly contradicting to his own finding before and generally seems to be too big of a stretching of his concept. He merely speculates about the status of membership in that case. It can also be argued that the coal and steel workers were of course included in the wording of the contract, because it was their industries that were being integrated. But an equivalence of the coal and steel workers to European Citizens on such thin arguments is rather far fetched. Secondly, during applying the membership dimension on the Rome Treaties, Olsen again confuses workers and producers as members or citizens, although he himself, as before, states that the prevailing image is one of a focus on individuals as workers and producers (ibid, p. 47). So by wrongly applying the membership dimension, Olsen again disproves his own argument. Thirdly, Olsen analyses preambles of the aforementioned treaties and documents on several occasions. Unfortunately he only derives speculations and conjectures out them. E.g. the preamble of the free movement Regulation 1612/68 states that the freedom of movement constitutes a fundamental right of workers and their families as well as it gives a guarantee for the possibility of improving [the worker s] living and working conditions and promoting his social advancement (ibid, p. 50). Starting out by sketching with technical pens and watercolors, Cyan reworks his pieces until he is able to make them unique. Sunridge Chestnut illustrates this idea beautifully as lines are used in different directions and the tree takes on almost a new shape of its own. One can look at this piece for hours on end, without truly discovering the full artwork in its totality. Cyan really desires the audience to almost be lost within the picture, continuing to look for new additions. In Hallowed Etching, Cyan uses multiple shapes and values to support this idea. Like a group of dumb kids who go into the abandoned house on their street, when setting up, each player finds themselves playing the role of one of 12 different people standing inside of the foyer a decrepit old mansion (presumably on a hill). The players then have the task of exploring said creepy mansion, uncovering tiles and finding items or events that happen in each of the rooms. The characters gain and lose some of their stats based on these events and items, allowing them to either become more powerful than they were initially upon entering the house, or it may end up killing their character if any of the stats reach zero. The other possible things a player might find when looking around the house are omens. These are like events, but the player has make a haunt roll that gets harder for each omen that gets uncovered. Outsourcing Is Becoming A Norm Introduction airline outsourcing Outsourcing is defined as the decision to buy goods and services from external sources rather than producing them in house when internal provision is not justified in light of existing or anticipated business condition (Leenders Nollett, 1984). It is a common solution to outsource non strategic business functions in order to diminish distraction and focuses managerial attention on operations within the scope of a company s core competencies. This practice is widely adopted by today s enterprises around the world, including airlines, to control costs, improve efficiencies and increase profitability (Feldman, 1992). However, although airlines are outsourcing their operations in order to remain competitive in increasingly challenging business environments, such practice may not always be successful and its theoretical justification may not have been fully explored (Rieple Helm, 2008).
