How Prawer-Jhabvala Highlights the Culture Clash Between...
How Prawer Jhabvala Highlights the Culture Clash Between India and England in the Young Couple
Prawer Jhabvala highlights the culture clash in several ways. Firstly, by using themes. Secondly,
through the uses of images and languages. Finally, through the uses of characterisation of Naraian,
Cathy and Naraian s parent.
Firstly, Prawer Jhabvala uses the main theme, clash of culture to show the culture clash between
England and India. The first culture clash was shown on the reaction Naraian s friend to Cathy.
Naraian s friends were polite to her, but the trouble was they were too polite, in a very formal and
courtly way , and with such undue respect . The respect is unearned and should not own ... Show

Naraian s family does everything for Cathy. His family gets involved very much between the couple.
Secondly, Prawer Jhabvala also highlights the culture clash through using images and languages.
One of the images I found is that the reasons why Cathy doesn t work. She has experiences on
receptionist to a Harley Streetspecialist, a sales assistant in an airlines office and a waitress in a
coffee bar. However, she knew it was impossible to get a job like that in India. Because of her, or
rather the family s, background and social standing. The sort of jobs this background and social
standing permitted her she was not qualified to do. Therefore, the main way of getting a job in
India is nepotism. On the other hands, in England, individuals find works independently of
family. And other images I found is that the attitude of family to Cathy s shopping trip. The
mother said to Cathy, One word, and I shall come myself with the car and take you . Our girls don t
go into these bazaars alone. It is not proper for us. Overly caring and involvement in the lives of the
couple. It is not socially acceptable especially for a white woman to go to bazaars

The Biological Impact Of Grief And The Personality
Introduction Loss of a significant other, especially a spouse, is considered one of life s most
stressful events. While it may be difficult, bereavement is an event that all people experience at
some point in their lives. The time frame in which the loss occurs and how the individual reacts
to it has been the subject of many research studies. Researchers have investigated if people grieve
differently because of biological reasons or do their personality traits dictate how the loss is
mourned. I will explore the biological impact of griefand the personality aspects in grieving. Grief
is the act following the loss of a loved one. While grief and bereavement are normal occurrences,
the grief process is a social construct of how someone should behave. The acceptable ways that
people grieve change because of this construct. For a time it was not acceptable to grieve; today,
however, it is seen as a necessary way to move on from death (Scheid, 2011).The grief process
has been described as a multistage event, with each stage lasting for a suggested amount of time to
be considered normal and reach resolution. The beginning stage of grief is the immediate shock,
disbelief, and denial lasting from hours to weeks (Wambach, 1985). The middle stage is the acute
mourning phase that can include somatic and emotional turmoil. This stage includes
acknowledging the event and processing it on various levels, both mentally and physically. The
final stage is a period of

The Characterities Of Diksha Chamling Rai
Diksha Chamling Rai was born in 1995 in the Kathmandu Nepal. Being physically disable is
something nobody wants, as explained by Diksha. She does not like the way she is. Because,
whenever she saw other people walking normal and talking clearly, she thought that other people
were perfect. She always felt bad when she saw herself in the mirror as she find other people
were perfect because they have normal thing comparing to her. I believe we must be satisfied
with what we have in order to be happy because some people might be crying somewhere in the
corner thinking they are imperfect. For example in this world there are many people who cannot
walk, cannot talk, can not hear what other people are saying to them, can not see other or world
because their physical disability. So, We need to be happy with what we have because at least we
have everything comparing to other who have physical disability. Diksha is a teenager girls who
has a physical disability. She is from Kathmandu Nepal and now currently living in Chicago. She
came to the United States in 2010. Her talent She has a dream of becoming accountant. But, Due
to the stereotypes thinking of our society, diksha has face many difficulties because of her
physical disability to achieve her dream. For example, Diksha is really hard working student. But
then also everyone is against her and against her education. It is hard for everyone to overcome a

In A Glaringly White Room, I Sat With My Colleagues For
In a glaringly white room, I sat with my colleagues for three weeks. In this room with little
dГ©cor, we sat with our weary but bright eyes as we discussed, argued, and made claims about
ourselves and the way we viewed the world. I insisted, pompously, on views that I claimed were
the truth; which I now I have changed. Towards the end of the three weeks, I came to the
realization that I was standing on a foundation made of water. Fortunately, I came to this
realization before I drowned. In week two, we talked about our ethics. Our ethics create our
visions, our paths, and our inertia. Our ethics also plays a heavy part into how outsiders will view
us (UN Ethics Office, 2012). Since DPMI, I have reviewed and reflected on my personal code...

I hope that my personally vision empowers me to be better, because we cannot empower others.
Hopefully, it will create a ripple effect and others will lean in (Cropper, Berg, Culligan, Radstone,
2010). The Greek poet, Euripides, once said, Whoso neglects learning in his youth, loses the
past and is dead for the future. To understand how I should proceed with my desired vision for
the future, I have to reflect on my previous failures and successes (CARE). I have been traveling
alone since DPMI. Which is something I have not been able to do that much in my 25 years.
Being able to travel alone and talking to new people from around the world, has allowed to me
observe and reflect on the path I have taken. I travelled up and down California and flew to New
Zealand. In New Zealand I worked at an all vegan animal sanctuary in the bush north of
Auckland. While I did take a year off to do AmeriCorps after receiving my BA in anthropology, this
was the first time I have ever taken a real break from paid work and school. And with this came a
lot of clarity. Maybe it is society or how I was raised, but I am quite envious of successful
women. Successful women inspire me and make me push myself. However, envy is a double
edge sword; it makes you push yourself till mental exhaustion or makes you feel like the world is
against you. I want women to succeed; rising tide lifts all boats. When I arrived at

Church s Opposition To Capital Punishment In The Roman...
Capital punishment: the legally authorized killing of someone as punishment for crime. In the
United States, there is a distinct line between matters of Church and State; capital punishment falls
under the territory of the State. But, in 1974, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the
USCCB, made the decision to publically announce the Roman Catholic Churchs opposition to
capital punishment after a former president of the USCCB called the issue of capital punishment
not only a profound legal and political question but also an important moral and religious issue. But,
even this sagacious group of Church officials had a difficult time pin pointing the Church s exact
reasoning for their defensive against capital punishment. Throughout the article, the bishops try to
make sense of many twisting questions, including: in the eyes of the Church, what circumstances, if
any, make capital punishment acceptable? Although the 1980 article was released by the USCCB
in attempts to help the people of the Church understand this contradictory issue, it fell short due to
the fact that even the accredited statements run in circles.
According to Part I, Purposes of Punishment , the Catholic Church is not and will never be
completely sure if the state has the right to end the life of a person guilty for a heinous crime. While
ending the villain s life protects the citizens from danger, it violates the Roman Catholic Church s
belief that all life has value. Bishops urged

Janet Waking
The reality of death John Crowe Ransom (Tennessee native born 1888 and died 1974), devoted
much of his life to exploring his poetic ability and philosophical tendencies. In one of his more
popular pieces, Janet Waking (published 1927), Ransom utilizes just seven short stanzas to
successfully transport readers into the middle of a complex and intricate conversation about life,
deathand the fragile line that separates the two. Ransom s theme is that the waking that he makes
reference to in the title is symbolic of a child s transcendence of innocence and naivety into the
reality of death. It is important to understand that the speaker in Janet Waking is not Janet or an
unknown third party as is the case in many works of poetry. Instead, the narrator is Janet s own
father. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When she initially wakes up from her sleep, she is still naГЇve in her young age, and has not yet
had to face the reality of death. However, in a short moment s time she is forced to confront
death, face to face, and that innocence and nativity vanishes forever. This is the first time that
Janet s father cannot make things better for her. Chucky had been translated far beyond the
tangible world, and no one could possibly bring her back. The waking is symbolic of her exiting
the period of time that all young children experience where they are completely carefree and are
not privy to the tragedies of the adult world. Death is a very adult concept, and so this
introduction is a very important moment in her life. Janet Waking is not simply a poem about a
girl losing a pet that she loved. It is a symbolic narrative, ridden with metaphors, symbolism and
various other literary devices that is truly and genuinely about how one slips out of the bliss of
nativity and into a cold, and harsh reality. A harsh reality that we all must one day face: the
inescapable kingdom of

Clams Are Great Pollution Detectors By Susan Linville
In the past, clams have been used to locate sources of pollution in bodies of water. They get their
food, as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This
entails taking water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and
exchange gas (Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and
have the potential to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This
also allows for the clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams
bring in these substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out
which substances they brought in. This ability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Air stripping removes contaminants by pumping contaminated water and evaporating the bad
chemicals. However, it can take up to a year to have any effect on cleaning the water (Safewater).
Activated carbon filtration bring pollutants through its system and collects them, but it needs to be
changed frequently, have the possibility of taking a long time to work, and are very expensive
(Safewater). Bioremediation is using microorganism to digest contaminants, but again has the
possibility of taking a long time, yet is very inexpensive (Safewater). Phytoremediation involves
using plants and trees to remove contaminants with their roots and is all natural, but it takes a very
long time and the various plants or trees that are introduced can have negative effects on the
ecosystems (Safewater). Wetlands and algae is similar to phytoremediation and is already used in
wetland habitats for the same purpose of pollution removal. Lastly, chemical oxidation uses
oxidants to change harmful chemicals into less harmful chemicals in a semi timely manner, but it
is expensive. Comparatively, Asiatic clams are easy to collect due to their prominence in many
bodies of water from past human transport and easy to

The Rabbit Proof Fence, Remembering Babylon, And Puddn
Follow the Rabbit Proof Fence, Remembering Babylon, and Puddn head Wilson all contain
numerous references to borders of various kinds, both literal and figurative. Focusing on two of the
above texts, answer the following question: what do these borders represent?
The ideas of borders, boundaries and border crossings are increasingly employed in a
metaphorical sense that does not always refer to the physical border. These borders are
progressively used to represent social and cultural boundaries. A cultural border indicates that a
more powerful side constructs it s own cultural knowledge and has added political power and
privileges. When understanding the concept of borders, it is important to understand that borders
are being referred to in a literal sense and in a figurative sense. The term literal can be referred to
as taking words in their most basic sense without adding exaggeration or metaphorical meaning.
The term figurative can be described to as departing from the literal use of words and adding
metaphorical meaning. Figurative notions of borders within race have been a primary concern for
the novels Follow the Rabbit Proof Fence by Doris Pilkington and Remembering Babylon by David
Malouf. This essay will discuss and analyze the concept of figurative borders and what these
borders represent. Lastly, this essay will explore in detail the concept of figurative borders within
the two novels. Follow the Rabbit Proof Fence and Remembering Babylon have numerous

As I got on the plane I was not able to handle all of my excitement. I would be having a new
adventure in Italy. It would take about 12 hours to arrive. During that time I would be sleeping,
looking for fun tourist attractions, and sleeping some more. The plane finally landed just a few
minutes ago on Central Italyand now I await my taxi. Once the taxi arrived and took me to my
hotel I decided to go sightseeing. As I was driving to the Orvieto Cathedral I got lost. Without
reception for my phone I decided to ask a woman near by. As I approached her she looked very well
built and strong. As I neared her I noticed that she was also holding a child. I then asked, Excuse

impossible, you conquered Rome thousands of years ago, I remarked. Mala then look at me as

that we have lances, axes, swords, and daggers in bronze, Well, my people have many great
discoveries and accomplishments too. I then proceeded to tell her of basic things like electricity,
cement, and flowing tap water. I feared that if I told her anything more about things such as planes

things would ever exist now, but only in the future. That s when she made the connection that I was

Analysis Of Orange Is The New Black
Orange is the New Black by Jenji Kohan has been streaming on Netflix since July 2013 by the
production company Lionsgate Television. The television show is about the main character Piper
Chapman who just got in jail. She is serving time at Litchfield Penitentiary, a federal prison for
women in upstate New York, for drug smuggling with her ex girlfriend (Alex) a couple of years
ago. When Chapman goes to prisonshe is reunited with Alex, even though their relationship goes
through ups and downs as the time goes by. The main focus of the television show is to present a
public discourse about the criminal justicesystem, particularly incarceration in the United States.
Through the social cognitive theory and the agenda setting theory one is able to see how Orange is
the New Blackdraws attention to different issues within our incarceration system, specially
imprisonment of women. From the social cognitive theory aspect, the filmmaker has communicated
an acceptance towards distinctive identities by having a variety of characters in the show. Apart
from this, agenda setting theory comes into play when particular issues within imprisonment are
presented, like solitary confinement was throughout many episodes. These can be further examined
and analyzed looking at all the elements Jenji Kohan implements in her scripts to open up a public

people learn by observing behavioral

A Reflection On Spirituality Assessment Essay
Introduction Spirituality is a very sensitive topic in any area of the world and when discussing it
with a patient is such a vulnerable situation, it becomes even more delicate. It is a topic which can
affect the outlook of the patient and how they will get through their condition. A spirituality
assessment is important because spirituality is such a powerful thing which can help a person turn
a terrible situation into something more bearable. It is vital for nurses to use this tool to help them
because it goes beyond medications and intubation trays, it focuses on them as a person. A
spirituality assessment is a tool which will help patients on critical care units get through there
vulnerable moment in life.
Implementation Plan
When trying to implement my spirituality assessment in critical care, I would use Rogers change
theory which has five different steps; awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and adoption (Mitchell,
2013). Each of these steps are very important to the success of the spirituality assessment. During
the awareness step it is important to identify the importance of the spirituality assessment on the
critical care unit. I would explain how spirituality plays an important part in caring for a patient
because of the impact it has on the decision they will make (Savel Munro, 2014). I would try to
make the stakeholders aware of the influence spirituality will have on the patients on critical care
units. I would open their eyes to see the toll those

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Tunneling Method
It is a type of underwater tunnel. It consists of segments which are constructed somewhere else and
are then floated at the tunnel site to be linked together. These tunnels are normally used together
with other tunnel construction methods like bored tunnel, etc. This method is commonly used for
road and rail crossings of river, sea channels/ harbors, etc. Refer Exhibit 7 for how it works
This method has many advantages:
1.Cost effective
2.Speedy construction
3.Resistant to earthquakes
4.Safety during construction
Some of the disadvantages are:
1.It would have direct contact with water hence it is important to have a careful waterproofing
design.
2.Since the tunnel is constructed in segments, utmost care needs to be taken during the design of ...

Limits the disturbance to the surrounding wall leading to production of smooth tunnel wall making
then suitable for use in highly urban areas.
2.Cost of lining the tunnel is reduced.
Its disadvantages are:
1.Construction of TBMs is really expensive.
2.It is difficult to transport TBMs
New Austrian Tunneling Method
New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) or also called Sequential Excavation Method (SEM) has
revolutionized the tunneling industry. It is the most popular method of tunnel design and
construction. This method draws its advantage from the capability of using the geological strength
of the surrounding rock mass in stabilizing the tunnel. Refer Exhibit 9 for elements of NATM
The main principle of NATM is to monitor the performance of underground construction during
construction. It is also called as design as you go and design as you monitor approach since on the
basis of observed ground conditions, the desired action can be taken.
There are seven elements in NATM:
1.Exploitation of strength of native rock mass
2.Shotcrete protection
3.Measurement and monitoring
4.Flexible support
5.Closing of the invert
6.Contractual arrangements
7.Rock mass classification.

Homeland Security Department and the Importance of...
Homeland security is a state agency that is entrusted with ensuring that the local population within
the USA borders is all safe at all times and this includes adequate preparation for any emergency,
safety of each member of the community during and after an emergency. The jurisdiction of the
Homeland securityis quite wide, ranging from border security, aviation safety, emergency response,
cyber security as well as chemical facility safety among many others. There are a wide range of
duties within this department. But the goal is one, that of keeping America safe (U.S Department
of Homeland Security, 2011). This has been and will continue to be one of the core concerns of
America in the next five or so years. Without the safety of the American population during disasters,
then the homeland security shall have failed in executing their duties.
To advance the aspect of homeland security, the department has and will continue to implement

The Depletion Of The Bee Population
While often only appreciated for their honey, honeybees are responsible for pollinating about one
third of the food that the human population consumes. Bees provide us with fruits, berries, nuts,
vegetables, coffee, and so much more. This is why the depletion of the bee population beginning
in 2006 was, and as it continues, so concerning. The term Colony Collapse Disorder refers to a
phenomenon in which worker bees vanish from the hive, leaving the queen and larvae unattended,
and thus the bee colony ceases to function and collapses. This is happening throughout the United
States at an alarming rate, and while one distinct cause for CCD has yet to be found, scientists
have narrowed it down to a few possible reasons.
Honeybees are social insects that live in eusocial communities in which the bees partake in
complex activities and live in well organized groups. There are three types of bees that exist within
the hive: the queen, the drone, and the worker. Each colony has one queen bee, whose primary
function is reproduction. She also produces pheremones which represses the ovarian development
in the worker bees which unifies the colony and maintains her position as queen, until a new one
takes over. Drones are the male bees of the colony, and their sole purpose within the hive is for
reproduction. Worker bees perform all of the duties to maintain the hive, including building cells,
care for and feed the young, care for the queen, handle nectar to produce honey, and guard the

Critical Review: I Am Sam The movie, I am Sam, is the portrayal of a mentally retarded single
parent struggling to maintain custody of his normal intelligence daughter. Within his circle of
acquaintances are four special needs adults who are his close friends and two normal intelligence
adults who exhibit disordered behavior. The writers, Kristin Johnson and Jessie Nelson, spent
months researching and observing developmentally disabled adults in order to provide an accurate

Two of the normal intelligence people in the film appeared more disabled than the above
mentioned five characters. Sam s neighbor, Annie, suffered from agoraphobia and was unable to

daughter, was a compulsive stress eater, had anger explosions, was unable to focus, lacked
parenting skills, and exhibited relationship issues not only within her marriage but with her
staff. The normal people painted a portrait of being more handicapped than the disabled. The
plight of Sam to maintain his parental rights is one that is faced by the disabled community not
only in the USA but abroad. They lack the support services needed to help them thrive and raise
their children. According to O Keeffe and O Hara little is known about the mental health needs
of parents with intellectual disabilities. (O Keeffe, 2008) Sam exhibited the natural distress any
parent would feel having their child forceable removed from their care. He fought the best battle
he could against a well meaning social worker, prosecutor, and foster parent. His friends came to

Dr. Cleamon Moorer Guides Me Through An Intimate Journey
Failure is perhaps one of the most influential things in people s lives because it can alter the course
of our actions, by teaching us persistence or leading us the opposite way. Through his book, Dr.
Cleamon Moorer guides me through an intimate journey about his progression from failure to
promise. Cleamon is from a small town of Detroit with parents, who love him and enforce
discipline, but most importantly, they nurture his faith in Jesus Christ. He excels in academics
during both elementary and middle school; however, his mischievousness throughout those years
earns him many disciplinary sessions. In high school, misbehavior becomes history, yet, his GPA
suffers in the low C s. But with his father s tough discipline and his own effort and faith in God, he
later receives nomination for the National Honor s Society. As his college experience begins,
Cleamon Moorer attends GMI with enthusiasm and works along many of his classmates at GM,
but when the courses become more difficult after each semester, his grades fall below the required
minimum; hence, he becomes a flunk out . Yet, he does not abandon his education; he does not
surrender to the failure; in fact, he learns from it. Then, with years of tenacity, patience, and faith,
he ultimately becomes a professorat the same university at which he had failed.

Euthanasia And The Closely Related Procedure
Euthanasia and the closely related procedure, assisted suicide, are some of the most highly debated
topics in ethics. Although the procedures are different in name, their definitions are quite similar.
Euthanasia can be defined in two ways: passive or active. Passive euthanasia is defined as allowing
the patient s illness to kill them; refusing medical treatment. Active euthanasia, however, is defined
as killing through lethal injection, which also happens to be known as assisted suicide. From the
perspective of the deeply religious to those who just value the life of both themselves and others,
euthanasia and assisted suicide are fancy terms for murder. From my perspective, euthanasia and
assisted suicide are procedures that should only be allowed for those who are suffering from
incurable and physically painful illnesses that incapacitate them to the point where they cannot
properly function in society. What constitutes proper function in society will be discussed later
on, but it plays a pivotal role in the decision that one makes to die or not. Now some may
disagree and say that no matter the circumstance, one does not have the right to end their own life;
this too will be discussed in further detail. This essay will focus on the aspects mentioned above
and will provide the necessary answer to this debate between life and death.

Lack Of Alcohol Consumption On Campus
Universities and colleges in the United States are split up into different categories. Private,
public, four years, and two years are just some of the different types of colleges in the United
States. To be even more specific all colleges are broken down into two major categories: dry and
wet campuses. Dry campus are basically universities that do not allow alcohol consumption on
campus even if you are at the drinking age. Wet campuses are the exact opposite. Most wet
campuses are huge schools where they can not control the alcohol consumption, such as the
University of Connecticut, Penn State, etc. Dry campuses on the other hand are mostly smaller
schools where alcohol consumption can be monitored. Examples of this are ECSU, and all the
other Connecticut state schools. The reasons for these differences are because the universities are
trying to decrease the amount of drinking on campus, but does this actually work? is the
percentage of alcohol consumption lower on dry campuses than wet campuses? After researching
these topics and experiencing this first hand it is clear that the percentage of alcohol consumption
on dry campuses is not low enough compared to the percentage in wet campus, to be considered a
good way of solving the problem of binge drinking in universities. Dry campus restrictions don t
work because they don t impede students from buying alcohol, they don t impede them from
drinking off campus, and they fail to prevent alcohol related incidents. Alcohol

Rain On The Roof Analysis
12079 The most engaging writers will make themselves known through their texts It is
indisputable that the most engaging writers are those who reflect upon some of their own
deepest feelings throughout their texts and make themselves known to the reader. Janet Frame
interweaves her classic cynical style of writing into her poems Rain on the Roof , The Tree and
The Chrysalids and explores many of the unspoken, hard truths of humanity. Frame
characteristically utilizes language techniques of first person narration, vivid imagery with
references to nature and extended metaphors to express her ideas of conformity, guilt, and
suffering all of which revolve around the enigmatic side to humanity which often goes untold in
literature. Frame ingrains some of her own emotions and experiences into these texts which
enables readers to connect to her writing on a personal level and identify more specifically with
her disposition. I did not know. I would never have believed that every house I stole contained a
jewel. First person narration is an effective technique utilised to make the reader confront the
idea of repentance in the poem The Chrysalids . Here, Frame describes a personal experience
from her childhood which she now looks back on in shame. We observe her honest emotion as
she narrates I feel compassion for the world I robbed . From a more mature perspective, she is
able to see the destruction she innocently caused as a child. First person narration is employed
again in another one of Frame s poems, Rain on the Roof. Once more, this language technique
invites the reader into Frame s world of hardship and affliction and her styleenables readers to feel
her seclusion as if it were their own. In this poem, Frame observes the way in which her nephew
handles his grief by recapturing the sound of rain falling on the roof . Similar to The Chrysalids,
this poem is a retrospective and Frame narrates in a rather blunt and condescending tone. Her
distinctive voice shows through as she comments I do not say to him, The heart has its own
comfort for grief , symbolising the fact that her nephew must find strength from within to cope with

Descriptive Essay About The Lake
For there lay the lake. Not a lake, the lake, the lake that had been featured in every single one of
her father s tales, be they stories of ancestors or stories of his recent days; the lake that had
provided a countless number of shops around the world with authentic Icelandic arctic char, the
lake that had started and upheld and would continue to uphold the Heath family legacy for every
conceivable generation to come. Ice covered every inch of it. If the snow had been masters at
reflecting the glorious rays of sunlight, the ice sheets were gods. Fjola could hardly tell where
the atmosphere stopped and the frozen lake began everything she could see for yards and yards
was mirrored perfectly by the ice. The whites and blues and yellows and faint dotted greens ran
into one another until they were one, one unit, one item, one color; the color of amazement. The
landscape was hard and sharp and crisp beneath a world coated by a facade of softness and
kindness and love. But most of all was its sheer emptiness. Fjola was not about to let such a
magnificent scene escape her grasp. She was up and scrambling out of the car far before her
father had even parked the car, gathering her supplies and flinging herself from its interior out into
the cold, breezy environment that lay in wait for her small presence. By the time her dad had
collected his things and made his way along the lake, she had already dashed out onto the ice.
Caution had been thrown to the wind. She didn t

The Dumb Waiter is written by Harold Pinter in 1957. Absurd is a movement that was centered

The Reduction Of Weight Of Heavy Vehicles
Introduction
The need for reduction in weight of heavy vehicles is increasing day after day. Reduction of weight
results in reduced fuel consumption which results in a decrease in the emission of greenhouse gas.
For reducing the weight, higher strength to weight ratio steels would be required. Not only is a
high strength, but the steel also requires to be adequately formable and greater energy absorption
capacity. Good formability is essential for designing vehicle components with complex shapes.
Dual phase (DP) steels are quite promising material for these purposes. DP steels can already
achieve strength in the range of 500 1200 MPa with a total elongation of 15 25 %. Dual phase
steels contain more than 1% alloying element among which major alloying elements are C, Si, Mn,
and there are some other alloying elements also.
Among different grades of Dual phase steels, the primary concern here is DP600 steels. A general
chemical composition of DP 600 steel is tabulated in Table 1 below.

Nadine Triple Bind
Nadine, on the other hand, illustrates the case of the adolescent who never lives up to the
conflicting demands of the pedestal role. Moreover, as a teenage girl, Nadine is faced with the
same stress that Darian encounters with the additional stress of what Hinshaw terms the Triple
Bind (Hinshaw 6). That is, Nadine, like all other teenage girls, are bound by the (1) the need to
excel at girl stuff, (2) the need to excel at boy stuff, and (3) the need to fit into the narrow beauty
and behavior standards assigned to girls (Hinshaw 7). In the first case, a girl that wants to feel

For Nadine and many others, the consequence is abandonment. Nadine s failure to fit into the
behavior standards set for women result in her inability to form a peer cluster throughout her youth.
Likewise, after failing to sacrifice herself for her friends and family, Nadine s mother, brother, best
friend and love interest have all abandoned her. Furthermore, Nadine s father s death was a kind of
abandonment, and unfortunately, this trauma heightens Nadine s sensitivity to betrayal in her
relationships. Clark explains that the consequences of ripped apart family system remain a constant
source of brokenness throughout one s life (48). Moreover, Nadine, like other adolescents, feels
pressure to meet the unrealistic expectations assigned to her in part because she is immersed in a
larger culture of abandonment in which social institutions and adults abandon their responsibilities
to adolescents, and instead, they assume that adolescents should fulfill roles that serve adult
interests (Clark 27) . Nadine s mother demonstrates this attitude because she believes that her teens
should sit on a pedestal to serve her emotional needs. Unfortunately, for Nadine and many other
teens, a willingness to meet these conflicting expectations will not automatically lead to their
independent flourishing and success; More often than not, it leads to a sacrifice of intrinsic

Essay Prosocial Self-schemas and Behavior
Prosocial Self schemas and Behavior The theoretical question that has been posed in this article
is whether prosocial private self schemas and prosocial private self awareness are predictors of
prosocial behavior. The self schema is believed to play an important role in the regulation of
behavior. It is believed that behavior is influenced by the activation of a schema. This schema is
connected to the perception of self. Little evidence is shown to conclude that self schemas are
independently influencing any type of behavior and it is presumed that both the descriptive
information about the self and the behavioral information are stored independently of each other.

to a testing room by one of the two experimenters. The experimenters were both women. The
participant would then be told that they would be participating in a series of different games,
puzzles, and questionnaires. The children were told that for their participation they would receive
fifteen tokens that were worth ten cents each. The tokens could be exchanged for a gift certificate

children that were not in the study but they did not have to if they did not want to.
To manipulate the private self awareness the experimenter used an abbreviated version of the

the stimulant drug amphetamine and the hallucinogen mescaline. Those taking the drug typically
experience feelings of increased energy, euphoria, emotional warmth and empathy. However, there
can also be negative side effects to its use, including confusion, depression, insomnia, and anxiety.
Additionally, heavy users also experience confusion, memory loss, and problems with attention. It

We see evidence from the text when Creon says, alas for me, the guilt for all this is mine it can

supports my claim because Creon obviously sees how that the tragic incident was caused upon
him. However, it won t ever go away. He knows he has to live with it for as long as he s living.
As a final point, Creon is a tragic hero because he witnesses his mistakes he made. He actually

to do what he did. Haemon wanted to be with his wife, the love of his life. Creon didn t want him

Jonas Salk Vaccine
Our world to this day has been impacted so much by many different heros of all different types.
One such hero is Jonas Salk, the creator of the vaccines for polio and influenza. Salk became a
cultivator of modern medicine by creating a vaccine that saved countless lives without the benefit
of modern technology.
Jonas Salk was born in 1914, a time in which childhood disease and illness was great and
commonly led to death. He grew up into a wealthy family and was the first of his siblings to
graduate college. Salk went to college and intended study law but became interested in medical
science. There were no known cures for major illnesses such as influenza and polio. In 1939, Salk
became a scientist physician and a short time later began conducting research on cures for major
illnesses, which later led to a great amount of success.
In 1942, Salk was first called on to begin researching and conducting experiments on an illness
called influenza, also known as the flu. Influenza is a disease that is highly contagious and almost
like a common cold but more severe. It usually affects the respiratory system and left untreated can
lead to death. This disease was very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Salk used a vaccine that was called a non infectious or, a killed virus vaccine. Jonas s method was
called tissue culture. Tissue culture was the process of injecting a child or adult with the virus
and attempting to come up with a way to deactivate the virus, without harming or injuring the
patient in the process. Although technology has taken over, Salk found a way to cure diseases
without using technology. He was able to find a cure in less than 5 years which successfully
worked. Salk tested the cure out on his wife, and their 3 sons. The amount of polio cases
dramatically dropped from 28,985 in 1955 to 5,894 in 1957. He had a huge impact on our worlds
death rates. Soon after his research for Aids, Salk died, but his method of vaccinations

Analysis Of The Boy In The Box
Out of all homicide cases in the US, about one third of them end up unsolved. The unfortunate

any other theories, there s always something that disproves them.

detectives searching over 100 stores nearby but they eventually got nowhere. The next and last
clue about the poor boy s mysterious case was the box he was found in. The box was from a
JCPenny store 15 miles away. The investigators used the serial number on the box in which they
later traced down and found out that it had previously contained a bassinet. 12 boxes of the

Investigators still wanted to continue with the case so they kept the boy in a morgue. Many
people from 10 different stated came to look at the boy to see if he was a missing family member.
Unfortunately, nobody claimed him. Foot prints and fingerprints of the boy were taken and

The Effects of Slavery on African Americans
Slavery, due to its overall violent nature, had lasting effects on African American s. Enslaved
African Americans faced tremendous turmoil internally and within society with all that they had to
deal with. The most apparent and disastrous affects of slavery during the 18th century was the
overall dissolution of society in regards to human rights, families, and the inability for slaves to
voice an opinion of their own. Slaverybrought forth major suffering. African American s who
were enslaved experienced many troubling and painful feelings and emotions. With slavery,
came problems; physical, emotional, and traumatizing experiences. Slavery was corrupt and
dehumanizing. Some of the leading factors that resulted in why slavery was so awful was the
tension and conflict it caused in society, families were split up and sold off separately, and lastly,
it led to extremely inappropriate and wrongful forced sexual relationships between slave masters
and their slaves, specifically young girls and women. Many of the material we covered over the
course of this semester in our class, explained and went into further detail regarding the corruptness
and brutalities that came with slavery. 12 Years A Slave, American Slavery, and Soul By Soul, all

effects it provoked.

Descartes Meditations Of First Philosophy

Philosophy 201
Mr. Jurkiewicz
4 March 2016 Descartes Meditation #2
Rene Descartes was a French philosopher born in 1596. He is considered by many the father of
modern philosophy and continues to have tremendous influence in the philosophical world to this
day. The book, Meditations of First Philosophy, consist of six meditations and describes one
meditation per day for six days. In meditation two, he claims that we have better knowledge of our
own minds than of the physical world. This proclamation has sparked debates between countless
philosophers for centuries.
In meditation two, Descartes wax argument is an observation and an essential part of how he
develops his theory of the mind and body being separate from each other. It begins by Descartes
taking a piece of fresh wax and describing it. He describes the wax through his sensory perception
of it. He describes the faint taste of honey, the smell of flowers, the yellow coloring, the cool to
the touch, and the sound it makes when it is tapped. He takes all of these sensory perceptions
and understands it to be a piece of wax. He then melts the wax. When the wax melted it
eliminated all of the qualities he perceived it to have through his senses. When the wax melted the
taste was gone, the smell and color were gone. It no longer made a sound when touched and it was
now hot instead of cool. The wax was no longer the same. It was now different.
Even though the wax does not look the same as it

Objective Meaning
Many people walk around not worry about whether or not life has any objective meaning, at least
most of the time, and when they do think on the topic of the meaning of life, they seem assured
that there is some objective meaning. For many, this objective meaning lies in their religion. The
notion that God creates the meaning in life does make some sense. For if God created humans, it is
reasonable that he created them with intention and purpose. Now this might not be the purpose
people want to have, but it is purpose for them none the less. It is from this God given purpose that
people can derive their meaning. For those without religion, well, there is always subjective

  • 3. The Biological Impact Of Grief And The Personality Introduction Loss of a significant other, especially a spouse, is considered one of life s most stressful events. While it may be difficult, bereavement is an event that all people experience at some point in their lives. The time frame in which the loss occurs and how the individual reacts to it has been the subject of many research studies. Researchers have investigated if people grieve differently because of biological reasons or do their personality traits dictate how the loss is mourned. I will explore the biological impact of griefand the personality aspects in grieving. Grief is the act following the loss of a loved one. While grief and bereavement are normal occurrences, the grief process is a social construct of how someone should behave. The acceptable ways that people grieve change because of this construct. For a time it was not acceptable to grieve; today, however, it is seen as a necessary way to move on from death (Scheid, 2011).The grief process has been described as a multistage event, with each stage lasting for a suggested amount of time to be considered normal and reach resolution. The beginning stage of grief is the immediate shock, disbelief, and denial lasting from hours to weeks (Wambach, 1985). The middle stage is the acute mourning phase that can include somatic and emotional turmoil. This stage includes acknowledging the event and processing it on various levels, both mentally and physically. The final stage is a period of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this room with little dГ©cor, we sat with our weary but bright eyes as we discussed, argued, and made claims about ourselves and the way we viewed the world. • 6. Church s Opposition To Capital Punishment In The Roman... Capital punishment: the legally authorized killing of someone as punishment for crime. In the United States, there is a distinct line between matters of Church and State; capital punishment falls under the territory of the State. But, in 1974, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the USCCB, made the decision to publically announce the Roman Catholic Churchs opposition to capital punishment after a former president of the USCCB called the issue of capital punishment not only a profound legal and political question but also an important moral and religious issue. But, even this sagacious group of Church officials had a difficult time pin pointing the Church s exact reasoning for their defensive against capital punishment. Throughout the article, the bishops try to make sense of many twisting questions, including: in the eyes of the Church, what circumstances, if any, make capital punishment acceptable? Although the 1980 article was released by the USCCB in attempts to help the people of the Church understand this contradictory issue, it fell short due to the fact that even the accredited statements run in circles. According to Part I, Purposes of Punishment , the Catholic Church is not and will never be completely sure if the state has the right to end the life of a person guilty for a heinous crime. While ending the villain s life protects the citizens from danger, it violates the Roman Catholic Church s belief that all life has value. Bishops urged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They get their food, as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This entails taking water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and exchange gas (Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and have the potential to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This also allows for the clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams bring in these substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out which substances they brought in. This ability... A spirituality assessment is important because spirituality is such a powerful thing which can help a person turn a terrible situation into something more bearable. It is vital for nurses to use this tool to help them because it goes beyond medications and intubation trays, it focuses on them as a person. A spirituality assessment is a tool which will help patients on critical care units get through there vulnerable moment in life. Implementation Plan When trying to implement my spirituality assessment in critical care, I would use Rogers change theory which has five different steps; awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and adoption (Mitchell, 2013). Each of these steps are very important to the success of the spirituality assessment. During the awareness step it is important to identify the importance of the spirituality assessment on the critical care unit. I would explain how spirituality plays an important part in caring for a patient because of the impact it has on the decision they will make (Savel Munro, 2014). • 16. The Depletion Of The Bee Population While often only appreciated for their honey, honeybees are responsible for pollinating about one third of the food that the human population consumes. Bees provide us with fruits, berries, nuts, vegetables, coffee, and so much more. This is why the depletion of the bee population beginning in 2006 was, and as it continues, so concerning. The term Colony Collapse Disorder refers to a phenomenon in which worker bees vanish from the hive, leaving the queen and larvae unattended, and thus the bee colony ceases to function and collapses. This is happening throughout the United States at an alarming rate, and while one distinct cause for CCD has yet to be found, scientists have narrowed it down to a few possible reasons. Honeybees are social insects that live in eusocial communities in which the bees partake in complex activities and live in well organized groups. There are three types of bees that exist within the hive: the queen, the drone, and the worker. Each colony has one queen bee, whose primary function is reproduction. She also produces pheremones which represses the ovarian development in the worker bees which unifies the colony and maintains her position as queen, until a new one takes over. Drones are the male bees of the colony, and their sole purpose within the hive is for reproduction. Worker bees perform all of the duties to maintain the hive, including building cells, care for and feed the young, care for the queen, handle nectar to produce honey, and guard the ... Although the procedures are different in name, their definitions are quite similar. Euthanasia can be defined in two ways: passive or active. Passive euthanasia is defined as allowing the patient s illness to kill them; refusing medical treatment. Active euthanasia, however, is defined as killing through lethal injection, which also happens to be known as assisted suicide. From the perspective of the deeply religious to those who just value the life of both themselves and others, euthanasia and assisted suicide are fancy terms for murder. From my perspective, euthanasia and assisted suicide are procedures that should only be allowed for those who are suffering from incurable and physically painful illnesses that incapacitate them to the point where they cannot properly function in society. What constitutes proper function in society will be discussed later on, but it plays a pivotal role in the decision that one makes to die or not. Private, public, four years, and two years are just some of the different types of colleges in the United States. To be even more specific all colleges are broken down into two major categories: dry and wet campuses. Dry campus are basically universities that do not allow alcohol consumption on campus even if you are at the drinking age. Wet campuses are the exact opposite. Most wet campuses are huge schools where they can not control the alcohol consumption, such as the University of Connecticut, Penn State, etc. Dry campuses on the other hand are mostly smaller schools where alcohol consumption can be monitored. Examples of this are ECSU, and all the other Connecticut state schools. The reasons for these differences are because the universities are trying to decrease the amount of drinking on campus, but does this actually work? is the percentage of alcohol consumption lower on dry campuses than wet campuses? After researching these topics and experiencing this first hand it is clear that the percentage of alcohol consumption on dry campuses is not low enough compared to the percentage in wet campus, to be considered a good way of solving the problem of binge drinking in universities. Dry campus restrictions don t work because they don t impede students from buying alcohol, they don t impede them from drinking off campus, and they fail to prevent alcohol related incidents. Rain On The Roof Analysis 12079 The most engaging writers will make themselves known through their texts It is indisputable that the most engaging writers are those who reflect upon some of their own deepest feelings throughout their texts and make themselves known to the reader. Janet Frame interweaves her classic cynical style of writing into her poems Rain on the Roof , The Tree and The Chrysalids and explores many of the unspoken, hard truths of humanity. Frame characteristically utilizes language techniques of first person narration, vivid imagery with references to nature and extended metaphors to express her ideas of conformity, guilt, and suffering all of which revolve around the enigmatic side to humanity which often goes untold in literature. Frame ingrains some of her own emotions and experiences into these texts which enables readers to connect to her writing on a personal level and identify more specifically with her disposition. I did not know. I would never have believed that every house I stole contained a jewel. First person narration is an effective technique utilised to make the reader confront the idea of repentance in the poem The Chrysalids . Here, Frame describes a personal experience from her childhood which she now looks back on in shame. We observe her honest emotion as she narrates I feel compassion for the world I robbed . From a more mature perspective, she is able to see the destruction she innocently caused as a child. First person narration is employed again in another one of Frame s poems, Rain on the Roof. Once more, this language technique invites the reader into Frame s world of hardship and affliction and her styleenables readers to feel her seclusion as if it were their own. In this poem, Frame observes the way in which her nephew handles his grief by recapturing the sound of rain falling on the roof . Similar to The Chrysalids, this poem is a retrospective and Frame narrates in a rather blunt and condescending tone. Her distinctive voice shows through as she comments I do not say to him, The heart has its own comfort for grief , symbolising the fact that her nephew must find strength from within to cope with his pain. • 25. The Reduction Of Weight Of Heavy Vehicles Introduction The need for reduction in weight of heavy vehicles is increasing day after day. Reduction of weight results in reduced fuel consumption which results in a decrease in the emission of greenhouse gas. For reducing the weight, higher strength to weight ratio steels would be required. Not only is a high strength, but the steel also requires to be adequately formable and greater energy absorption capacity. Good formability is essential for designing vehicle components with complex shapes. Dual phase (DP) steels are quite promising material for these purposes. DP steels can already achieve strength in the range of 500 1200 MPa with a total elongation of 15 25 %. Dual phase steels contain more than 1% alloying element among which major alloying elements are C, Si, Mn, and there are some other alloying elements also. That is, Nadine, like all other teenage girls, are bound by the (1) the need to excel at girl stuff, (2) the need to excel at boy stuff, and (3) the need to fit into the narrow beauty and behavior standards assigned to girls (Hinshaw 7). Nadine s failure to fit into the behavior standards set for women result in her inability to form a peer cluster throughout her youth. Likewise, after failing to sacrifice herself for her friends and family, Nadine s mother, brother, best friend and love interest have all abandoned her. Furthermore, Nadine s father s death was a kind of abandonment, and unfortunately, this trauma heightens Nadine s sensitivity to betrayal in her relationships. Clark explains that the consequences of ripped apart family system remain a constant source of brokenness throughout one s life (48). Moreover, Nadine, like other adolescents, feels pressure to meet the unrealistic expectations assigned to her in part because she is immersed in a larger culture of abandonment in which social institutions and adults abandon their responsibilities to adolescents, and instead, they assume that adolescents should fulfill roles that serve adult interests (Clark 27) . Nadine s mother demonstrates this attitude because she believes that her teens should sit on a pedestal to serve her emotional needs. The self schema is believed to play an important role in the regulation of behavior. It is believed that behavior is influenced by the activation of a schema. This schema is connected to the perception of self. Little evidence is shown to conclude that self schemas are independently influencing any type of behavior and it is presumed that both the descriptive information about the self and the behavioral information are stored independently of each other. The book, Meditations of First Philosophy, consist of six meditations and describes one meditation per day for six days. In meditation two, he claims that we have better knowledge of our own minds than of the physical world. This proclamation has sparked debates between countless philosophers for centuries. In meditation two, Descartes wax argument is an observation and an essential part of how he develops his theory of the mind and body being separate from each other. It begins by Descartes taking a piece of fresh wax and describing it. He describes the wax through his sensory perception of it. He describes the faint taste of honey, the smell of flowers, the yellow coloring, the cool to the touch, and the sound it makes when it is tapped. He takes all of these sensory perceptions and understands it to be a piece of wax. He then melts the wax. When the wax melted it eliminated all of the qualities he perceived it to have through his senses. When the wax melted the taste was gone, the smell and color were gone. It no longer made a sound when touched and it was now hot instead of cool. The wax was no longer the same. It was now different. Even though the wax does not look the same as it ...
