Queer Is Not A Queer
I was walking to my house from the bus stop one day with my neighbor, Michael, and I was
joking about how I have a girl crush on Selena Gomez. I asked Michael, Hey, what male celebrity
do you have a man crush on? He responded ferociously with, None. I m not a freaking queer. This
is the exact type of mindset that transforms innocent words into ones dripping with negativity and
spite. Language is one of the most powerful tools a person could have, and the way they utilize it
reveals their character. As time progresses, words and their meanings can change. For my great
aunt s generation, the word queer just simply meant weird or strange. However, as gayactivism has
become much more prominent in society, the word queer is now mainly used to describe someone
s sexual orientation. Queer is not a derogatory term unless used as such, and it is instead a term of
equality and acceptance that should reverberate positive feelings. Sadly, this is not the only way
people translate it, instead morphing it into a shameful word and a cutting insult.
Until recently, queer had been primarily used to describe something odd. There was nothing
derogatory about the word, it was just a normal, everyday adjective. Queer originally originated in
Germany in the sixteenth century, meaning perverse. From there its use broadened to the term, not
straight. This did not mean sexual identity necessarily, but it did mean out of character or not totally
normal. Since then it evolved

Dostoevsky as Performer Essay
Dostoevsky as Performer
Storytelling and reading aloud played a valuable part in young Fyodor s life, influencing his own
later successful writing endeavors as well as his performance of literature. His nanny and wet
nurse introduced the Dostoevsky children to folklore and lives of the saints through the stories
they told. Nanny Alyona Frolovna told the children stories of ancient Russia, of Saint Sergey of
Moscow subduing a bear by the power of his holiness, of heroes and legends and folk tales,
Christianity and Russian myth intertwined ; the stories were so vivid and frightening that the
children had trouble sleeping (Gunn 10). During the winter their former wet nurses would make a
ceremonial visit to the Dostoevsky family, staying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Gothic novels of Ann Radcliffe were favorites of the Dostoevskys. Frank contends that
Dostoevsky, influenced by Radcliffe, would later incorporate Gothic techniques of plot, character,
and atmosphere and carry them to a peak of perfection that has never been surpassed (1976, 55).
Among the literature read and discussed by the Dostoevsky fireside were the Bible, writings of
Nikolai Karamzin, including History of the Russian State, Letters of a Russian Traveller, and Poor
Liza; the poets Vasily Zhukovsky, Mikhail Y. Lermontov, Gavriil R. Derzhavin, and, of course,
Alexander Pushkin; and the novelist Sir Walter Scott. Frank believes that the readings in the family
circle were designed to stimulate and benefit the children and to turn them into Godfearing and
loyal citizens of the Tsar (1976, 5960). Geir Kjetsaa reports that the Dostoevsky parents were fine
readers and the two oldest boys [Mikhail and Fyodor] did not lag far behind them and is convinced
that for Fyodor these reading sessions served as a literary foundation for his entire life (10).
The influence of Fyodor s mother, his first teacher, was no doubt strong as she conveyed her love
of poetry and novels as well as music. Fyodor began to read for himself at the age of four from an
antique volume containing a hundred and four Bible tales and conceived a passion for the book of

Persuasive Essay On Tree Stump
Are you a new homeowner trying to improve the looks of your yard by removing trees? If you ve
recently had one cut down in your yard, were you left with a stump that s getting in the way of
your landscaping plans? Although you may be tempted to pull the stump on your own, tree
stump removal is not usually a good do it yourself project for new homeowners. Here are some
reasons why you should hire a professional company to take care of the procedure for you: Time:
Digging a stump up and pulling it out of the ground can take a long time, even if the stump doesn
t appear to be large at ground level.. Even a relatively small tree trunk could be hiding a massive
root system. Many people may assume that tree stump removal will only take a couple hours, only
to find out that the root system is much larger and more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Safety: Getting a stump out of the ground can be extremely dangerous for an inexperienced
person. For example, even if you re experienced with towing vehicles with your truck, you may
run into difficulties iff you attach a chain to the stump and try to yank it out. The chain may
snap suddenly, causing the vehicle you re using to lurch forward abruptly. Hiring a tree stump
removal company will allow you to stop worrying about causing injuries or damages. They are
familiar with the proper safety equipment and also know how to remove the tree stump without
danger to people or property. Money: Tree stump removal can be costly, if you do it yourself. If
you don t have the necessary equipment, you may have to rent a chainsaw, purchase a heavy saw
or obtain equipment that you don t already own. Additionally, your inexperience could result in
damage to your vehicle or property. On the other hand, if you hire a professional company, you will
know beforehand exactly what

Aluminum Trailer Research Paper
Aluminum Trailers Are A Great Option For Your Needs
Before you purchase a trailer, it is imperative to choose what material you d like the trailer to be
made of. Two regular alternatives are steel trailers or aluminum trailers. On the off chance that you
like the thought of a lightweight, appealing, and rust free trailer, then aluminum trailers are the best
approach!
Truly, there are sufficiently pleasant trailers made with either material. A few individuals pick steel
since they are less costly. Then again, a lower sticker price does not mean you will be taking full
advantage of your cash. Never settle for a steel trailer just as a result of a lower sticker price.
Steel trailers are generally a less expensive choice, yet they are positively worse. Numerous

The Role Of Self Assembly And The Construction Of A...
A nanoparticle is the most basic component in the construction of a nanostructure. In general, the
size of a nanoparticle spans the range between 1 and 100 nm. The properties of many conventional
materials change when formed from nanoparticles. This is typically because nanoparticles have a
greater surface area per weight than larger particles which causes them to be more reactive than
other molecules. Self assembly refers to the process by which nanoparticles or other distinct
components spontaneously organize due to direct specific interactions and/or indirectly, through
their environment. Self assembly is typically linked with thermodynamic equilibrium, the
organization of the structures characterized the minimum of the system s free energy. An important
aspect of self assembly is that the building blocks organize into macroscopic structures. This can
happen through direct interactions (Interparticle forces) or through indirect interactions like using a
template or external field as a guide. The grouping of matter in nanomaterials can be broken down
into two techniques. Top down miniaturization techniques or bottom up methods which are
typically based on self assembly or directed assembly. The most widely used materials in bottom
up assembly are colloidmicro and nanoparticles. A lot of time and effort has recently been spent on
the fabrication of functional materials from organized particles. These advanced assemblies can
find applications in areas such as photonics,

1990 s Fashion Trends
Fashion Frenzy
Every generation laughs at the old fashions such as how big the hairstyles were for women, or the
platform shoes, bell bottom pants, and even the grunge look. But some trends are coming back
because everything comes back into style eventually. Many fashion trends from the 1990 s have
made a comeback today or have simply never left.
Back in 1990 s there was a huge demand for the neon colors. By 1992 animal prints started to
become very popular, including giraffe and tiger prints. Then in 1993 came a return of the bell
bottom pants and platform shoes. 1994 was all about the grunge look for both men and women.
Finally in 1997 baseball caps were being worn by everyone, even the children. In the 1990 s the
neon colors came out of nowhere. This fashion trend shocked everyone. People were wearing
bright colors like electric blue, orange, pink and many more(1990 s in fashion). Even the ... Show

The preppy look for men would consist of pants or shorts in various pastels or plaids combined
with a button down dress shirt or polo shirt and boat shoes. The polo shirts had to have their
collars starched up, not folded. Women also wore polo shirts with the collar up as well paired
with jeans or brightly colored pants and high heels Sometimes a sweater would be tied over their
shoulders as well (1990 s in fashion).
This was something both men and women did. Again, there people today who still like this look
and dress in this manner. In the early 90 s makeup for women usually contained dark red lipstick as
a staple. Even blue frosted eye shadow was a hit. By 1997, blue eye shadow was still in, but shiny
lip glosses replaced the red lipstick (1990 s in fashion). There are some older women that still wear

Analytical analysis and comparism of an everyday text with...
Choose one every day and one literary text. Using at least two analytical techniques from E301,
analyze and compare your two texts in terms of their creativity and literariness, drawing on material
from both parts of the module.
In this paper I will analyze and compare a literary text and an everyday text, in terms of their
creativity and literariness. I chose Philip Larkin s (1964) poem, Self s the man (see Appendix, Text
1), as the literary text for analysis because it is not only smooth and pleasing to the eye and mind
that it seems effortless to read and contain within one s self but also because it arouses so many
emotions which makes it ideal for analysis. In Self s the man Larkin (1964), is being cynical
towards relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my analysis, I will first apply Jakobson s (1960) methodology, stylistics approach and Carter s
(1997) criteria of literariness to the two texts and then contrast them with illustrations in terms of
interpretative schemata. My intention in doing so is to highlight some of the strengths and
weaknesses of these approaches and also modes in which they interact to better comprehend the
nature of creativity and literariness.
On the graphological level, in Text 1, the noticeable attributes are the traditional lineation, stanza
divisions of poetry, and the presence of standard punctuation. The poem has 8 stanzas in all and
each stanza consists of 4 lines. This creates a set rhythmic pattern, particularly in conjunction with
the rhyme scheme. Text 2, on the other hand, on a graphic level, uses full capitalization in order to
emphasize every letter in the ad and make it look trim and tidy. The headline uses larger, capital
and bold letters to draw readers attention and make them curious about what the advertisement
mainly has to say, leading them to continue on reading unconsciously by arousing their curiosity
and desire to know more about the product and subsequently persuading them to buy it. Moreover,
Text 2, illustrates graphological deviation, by using solid background colors, and a brilliant
diamond ring to focus all the reader s attention to.
On the phonic level, Text 1 has little

The Not Neutral Net Neutrality
The Not So Neutral Net Neutrality

Abstract
Net Neutrality stands to define the future of internet. I will discuss the pros and cons, the different
perspectives on the subject, the effects on providers (such as Netflix) and consumers, and some of
the future implications of this contentious issue. Net Neutrality is one of the defining struggles of
what role technology and information will play in our future. What regulations should there be on
internet freedom, censorship and the free market? There are many rivaling interests between various
companies, consumers and the government. The military s reliance upon internet resources means
we will have to adapt to this emergent problem as it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There has been a recent push by several ISPs to give them the freedom to choose how and what
data is allowed to flow through their networks. There are several arguments for and against this line
of thinking. Should the internet remain the way it has been, or does it need to change?
Pros for Change
There are many reasons the ISPs and others have given that argue for a need to change. The
internet has certainly changed over the years, it would make some sense that things will have to
evolve and change with it.
There are some internet services that consume disproportionate amounts of bandwidth. The
obvious example is Netflix. During peak hours of internet usage, Netflix stands head and
shoulders above other applications. In 2013 CNET reported that Netflix was 31% of the total
downstream traffic. This means that Netflix alone accounts for almost a third of all internet traffic
during peak times. The strain upon ISPs to provide the necessary infrastructure to support the high
bandwidth of video and audio streaming is a big argument for a change to Net Neutrality. This
change has already been observed, as ISPs have effectively charged Netflix a premium in order to
allow Netflix to reach its customers without crippling throttling. The below is from Sandvine, who
is a Canadian ISP. They tracked the bandwidth usages during peak hours and came up with these
startling findings.
Another big consumer of internet bandwidth is YouTube.

The Causes for the Rebellion of 1837-1838 Essay
The Causes for the Rebellion of 1837 1838
The rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada were in the interests of self government but were
doomed to failure from their beginning. Each of these two colonies encountered a great deal of
problems right from the institution of the Constitution Act of 1791 and the problems continually
got worse until the only choice to some seem to be rebellion. There were several problems that lead
to the rebellions of 1837 38. In Lower Canada there was the agricultural crisis that caused a large
number of starvations, to the French and English political and social problems within the colony.
There were several different reasons that caused the rebellion in Upper Canada but these caused

The next major issue was that of immigration which brought tens of millions of people from
Europe. These people would be heading to the United States, Upper Canada or Lower Canada.
When these immigrants came they would land in Quebec and with them they would bring disease
that killed a large amount of French Canadians. This aggravated the French people because they
saw this as a plot of the English to get rid of the French Canadians . Adding to these problems was
the establishment of the British America Land Company. This new land company was given over
500 acres of Lower Canada s prime land. The company would not allow French people to buy this
land; only the English and Americans could purchase the land. The French people found it
increasingly difficult to get land and the government wasn t doing anything about this. All of these
problems lead to the assembly issuing the ninety two resolutions that had two main points that were
responsible government and control of money. The ruling English class didn t want the French
people to gain this power because they wanted to French to remain oppressed and out of the upper
class The Chateau Clique in Lower Canada wanted to prevent the French from winning complete
control over the government and English speaking people would be under the control of the French.
The response to the ninety two resolutions was the issuing of the ten resolutions from Britain that
stated that there would be no

The gains and losses of Gallipoli
Assess the gains and losses of Gallipoli
Gallipoli gave Australia its identity as nation and built what our nation is today. Gallipoli was
one major fundamental factor in our culture. When you look back into the history of Australia at
war you ll hear Anzacs and diggers a lot. These names all came from one war and in fact one
battle. Anzac stands for the Australian New Zealand army corps. The term diggers comes from
soldiers continually digging trenches, holes and bunkers to sleep in and take cover during an
artillery duel. The term has remained with us for over 90 years. Our soldiers are still living in holes.

There were eight Victoria crosses handed out to Australian soldiers during the Gallipoli campaign.
One of the most famous VC award winners was Lance Corporal Albert Jacka. On the 19 May, the
Turkish launched an a attack to push the Australians into the sea. They seized ten metres of
trench at a place called Courtney s Post, but Australians at either end stopped them from
continuing to advance. At the northern end Jacka, with several of his mates, tried to get rid the
Turkish at the post, but were beaten back. It was then decided that while a feint attack was made
from the one end, Jacka would attack from behind. Jacka s mates waited long enough for Jacka
to circle in behind and then threw two bombs and gave covering fire. Jacka leapt over the
parapet, shot five Turkish soldiers with his rifle, bayonetted two others and forced the rest to
flee the captured trench. Members of Jacka s battalion, 14th Battalion, believed he should of

Organization Decision Making Process
An organization continually makes decisions at all levels. Until the past decade, most organizations
and their managers and employees operated in an information and knowledge fog, making decisions
based on best guesses about the past and present, and making expensive errors in the process. Many
have failed throughout the course trying to improve the decision making process, there are many
ways that contribute to the failure. Organizations can easily miss the market, by not having the
right intelligence, analysis, not acting on agreements, having inadequate capitalization or simply
because the competitors are doing better job. Another crucial failure during the process is poor
execution, when there is ineffective leadership, inefficient operations, and excessive costs. Not
following the right strategies is another contributor of failure, not having the right products and
services, ineffective marketing, utilizing outdated technologies and not adjusting to the frequent
changes on the market in today s competitive world. Nevertheless, several steps can guide us to
making the right decision. The first is to declare a decision, recognize that an organization ought to
make a decision, second is to decide what to make with that decision and finally execute the
decision to create results and changes in the outcome of those decisions. There are four stages in
the decision making, intelligence, design, choice and implementation. All of these steps consist of

who was destined to become King. The Once and Future King by T.H. White is certainly the most

Merlin quickly corrects the boy by telling him his notion quot;would be extremely presumptuous
quot;, and he quot;would be conquered for it quot; (38). Merlyn wants the young boy to
understand that might is not the answer to the problems in the world. He hopes that when the
young boy becomes King he will be capable of correcting such faults with the world. This is in
contrast to Wart s encounter with the King of the Moat while on an adventure lesson devised by
Merlin. The King declares that there is only power ;, and power of the body decides everything
in the end, and only might is right ; (48). For a young boy, the lessons in life are difficult to
understand without experience. Wart s experience will soon come, for the section ends when he
pulls the sword from the stone and becomes King. Merlyn is the first to address him as King,
leaving behind the boy once known as Wart.
The next section entitled The Queen of Air and Darkness tells of Arthur s war to defend his title
and secure his throne. His fight to claim his rights leads Arthur to a battle within himself. At one
point Arthur declares to his subjects Why can t you harness might so that it works for right ; (254).
He believes that in his pursuit to conquer his foes, he could use might to turn the bad things into
something good. Merlyn is aware of his naivete but knows that time will bring knowledge or failure.

How Do Weapons Affect The World
There are various harmful and helpful discoveries all over the world. Though a number of these
were created to hurt instead of help, many people look to the invention before looking to the
mind of a human. For instance, drugs are used to cure people, while others treat them as an
addiction. Similarly, weapons are used either to kill or protect. Good people choose good, while
evil people make poor choices. Inventions overall improve our world; however, some people handle
them as a detriment.
The most frequently used, harmful, and dangerous weapon across the world is the Automatic
Rifle, which was created in 1887 by General Manuel Mondragon. These powerful weapons were
previously used in the military after generals discovered the horrific demolition it could cause.
Tracing all the way back to its descendants, the AK 47, the M16A1, and the M 14, these rifles are
self loading and capable of delivering fully automatic, deadly weapon fire. Consequently, this

The Influence Of Beauty During The Heian Era
This period of Japanese history is notable by its visual impact. During the Heien era women had
the most influence upon the social aesthetics of society at the time. They dictated what was
beautiful in all things, including poetry, wardrobe, the arrangement of their homes and gardens.
Such a profound influence has continued to be important within Japan today, as many of the
Heian precepts of beauty are still considered the height of society today. Beauty, in all things, was
considered of utmost importance: in language, the written word, the spoken word, the costume,
gardens, and in the very essence of the culture. Mono no aware, a term coined in the 19th century
by Motoori Norinaga in regards to the Heian concept of beauty, best describes the Heian thoughts
of beauty. Beauty is precious, because it is brief (Hooker, 1999). The term aware during the Heian
era represented sensitivity to things ranging from beauty to sadness, life, love or death. In the
letters, diaries, literature and poetry, the fashion stands out and is the most obvious and most
scrutinized aspect of Heian beauty personified. While the men, too, had splendid robes to wear,
their color options and individuality was constrained by the sumptuary laws and their rank (Bryant,
2004). However, the women wore juni hitoe (called karaginu mo, with formal court layers, which
allowed a huge canvas upon which to express their individuality and fashion sense. Moreover, for

a more believable idea than women standing as one. The blame for that would be attributable to
society and its sexist views. Males have taken over as the main root for society which has led to
women being degraded more often than not. Society enjoys putting women down for incidents that
they praise men for. In fact, society has taught women to verbally attack other women in matters
that others consider potentially wrong. However, that is not the basis of sisterhood. Sisterhood
exists based on women lifting other women up and essentially being there for one another instead
of oppressing them. Women should not feel beaten down by other women considering they are all
one in the same. The poem GoblinMarket by Christina Rossettiand the film Steel Magnolias
directed by Herbert Ross shows true sisterhood in which women come together and perform
everything they can to assist other struggling women even when the people of society, including
other females, are trying to sever their bonds. In the poem Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti,
there is a definite prominence of women striving to overcome society s norms. Laura and Lizzie,
the two main characters, get ambushed by a group of goblins. These goblins represent society and
how it will try to bring a womandown for any cause. The

Antegren: A Beacon of Hope
As Jim Mullen, CEO of Biogen Idec, drove into work on February 19, 2004, he considered both the
tremendous hope and stiff challenge generated by the company the previous day. The company had
announced its intention to submit an application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
seeking approval for Antegren, a drug that Biogen Idec was developing in partnership with Elan to
treat multiple sclerosis (MS).
While the patient community and investors greeted the news with excitement, Mullen knew that to
fulfill the promise of Antegren, he would need to make a number of crucial decisions and the
company would need to bring the drug to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process could take months and typically required extensive lead time to schedule meetings
and review data with insurers data that had to be convincing. Early FDA approval would mean
short circuiting that whole methodical process, and it was unclear if this could be finalized before
the drug was approved.
Although all the signals from the FDA were positive, there was also the risk that the FDA, which
itself had been going through a period of upheaval, would not approve Antegren. If this happened,
the reputation risk to Antegren could be irreversible, even if it was approved at a later date after
further trials.
Mullen knew his responsibility was nothing short of transforming the promise of Antegren into
reality. He had to determine how to get the drug made and accessible to patients, and he had to
lead the company to execute in record time on those plans. Mullen knew Biogen Idec could fulfill
the high hopes of patients and investors, and now his task was to lead the company to do so.

Divine Providence Research Paper
Divine providence is the act whereby God manifests a particular set of conditions in order to
bring about some outcome in which He is aware of beforehand based on the current cooperation
and relations of the lives He is impacting. In doing so, His purpose is revealed which He has
previously deliberated on to bring creation into accordance with His divine will. To more fully
consider this point, the interwoven Hebrew terminology in this doctrine, using mainly the
Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament as a guide, will be described in greater detail.
In Hebrew, kwl is a literal term for a container and deals with holding something, typically a type

The verb bachar involves a conscientious selection based upon the required need of some plan.
It implies a separation in that individuals of a group are different than other groups as God
delineates the qualifications for this based on His prior, deeply considered thoughts related to His
plans for mankind. In the history of mankind, chapter seven of the Book of Deuteronomy
describes this carefully selected group as being smaller than all other people of the world in terms
of size. This emphasizes the thorough deliberation by God. As such, this outwardly shows what
occurs when choosing to be in relationship with Him. Namely, that those selected enter into a type

A Brief Note On Surface Water And Water Pollution
Surface water (rivers, streams, and lakes) are the main sources of domestic, industrial and irrigation
water uses in many areas in the world, and play a very important role in hydrologic and
biogeochemical cycles. As important as these surface waters are, only a minimum number are
maintained and can be found in their natural condition due to intensive human activities such as
urbanization and surface water pollution, making it a great environmental concern worldwide
(Zhao et al., 2011). Every time it rains, rivers and streams and are subject to non point source

By characterizing the spatial and temporal variation in the water quality of rivers and streams,
results from water quality analysis can provide an improved understanding of the environmental
conditions and m help policy makers establish priorities for sustainable water management (Cooper

illustrate the changing influence of various human activities in different sub basins and as one
proceeds from headwaters to downstream. Reports on stormwater quality management program
have shown that Greensboro currently faces water pollution problems in its main rivers and lakes
(Greensboro Water Resources Dept., Report, 2013). Water quality at most of the regularly

The Human Walking Gait Cycle
Exoskeletons and orthoses are defined as mechanical devices worn by an operator and fitted closely
to the body to work in concert with the operator s movements. The term exoskeleton is used to
describe a device that augments the wearers performance, while the term orthosis is used to
describe a device used to assist a person with limb pathology. Lower extremity exoskeletons seek to
circumvent the limitations of autonomous legged robots by adding a human operator to the
system. The system is designed in parallel with human limbs to augment human strength and
endurance during locomotion. The basic system design consists of two powered anthropomorphic
legs, a power unit, associated actuators, sensors, and a control unit.
When designing exoskeletons it is necessary to understand the biomechanics of human walking.
The human walking gait cycle is represented on a scale of 0% to 100% and includes several
notable phases shown in Figure 1. The structure of a human leg contains total of 7 Degrees of
Freedom (DOF) with three rotational DOFs located at the hip, one at the knee and three at the
ankle. Degrees of Freedom are directional factors that affect the range of independent motion in a
system. Biomechanical measures of level ground walking at the hip, knee, and ankle are shown in
Figure 2. The power requirement curves display the general power fluctuation for the hip as
positive or near zero, the knee as negative, and the ankle is as equally balanced. This outcome

How Does Eliza Haywood Use Disguise In Fantomina
Disguises In the 18th and 19th Century men and women wanted to search for their ideal partner
based on their desires while maintaining societal expectations placed on them. If a man or a
woman did not have certain traits they were considered unsuitable for marriage. In Eliza Haywood
s novel, Fantomina, and Oscar Wilde s play, The Importance of Being Earnest, the impact of these
unrealistic expectations are examined. In Fantomina the protagonist s character uses a variety of
disguises and power to maintain a sexual relationship with her lover. In the importance of Being

The Pros And Cons Of Capital Punishment
The death penalty is put into place when a person of some sort commits murder or rape or
something to an extreme extent, is lethally injected and put to death because of the crime.
To put it in perspective think about it this way, you re a thirty four year old with a spouse, and
three young children, a man the age of sixty seven brutally murders your spouse, would you want
that man to spend the rest of his life with a roof over his head and three square meals a day, or
would you prefer he be lethally injected and slowly and put to sleep? Although there are many
reasons to stick with a life sentence for criminals, there are even more reasons to implement capital
punishment, or the death penalty.
The history of the death penalty, or capital punishment dates all the way back to colonial times,
when the Europeans came to the new world. One of the first executions on record was Captain
George Kendall in 1612. Kendall was executed for being a spy for Spain.
In the mid to late 1800 s criminal began to receive a reformation sentence, which would be a
twenty five Years to life sentence. A reformation sentence is exactly as it sounds, it gave prisoners a
second chance. The reformation sentence failed because prisoners learned that they could just
commit a crime and get out on good behavior and continue the cycle. Master Sergeant Maurice L.
Schick was convicted in 1958 for the murder of a eight year old girl on a military camp in Japan.
Schick was sentenced to death, six years later

can help us to understand Christian views on these treatments. I will try to get two different views
on these treatments.

These are some issues that Christians may be concerned about:
i) Using Donors adultery?
Some Christians think that using a donor sperm or a donor egg is a violation of the marriage bond
and there it is adultery.
ii) Parent s who are they? Should children know? Confusion for child? Some Christian views on
this (like the Roman Catholic) are that they believe that children have the right to know who their
parents are and this is prevented in AID and surrogacy.
iii) When does life begin? Is an embryo a life? What to do with extra embryos etc? The Roman
Catholics believe that IVF involves fertilizing several eggs some of which are thrown away or
used for experimentation which is the same as abortion. Other Christian Churches allow IVF
because the discarded embryos are not fetuses and their destruction can be justified by the doctrine
of double effect. (The intention is to produce children for childless couples, not to kill embryos.)
iv) Surrogacy? The Roman Catholics believe that surrogacy is not allowed, because it involves
male masturbation and this has always been regarded by the Catholic Church as a grave moral sin.

Australia s Black-White History
The Grey Area of Australia s Black and White History
Australian schools are quick to suggest that our country s origins lie in European invasion. Students
are assigned to explore literature including The Rabbits and, away from our education, exposed to
productions including Rabbit Proof Fence , cementing the ideology that White culture is superior to
that of the Indigenous. Investigating perspective is crucial in determining the reality of any
historical event, particularly events where the subject can be emotionally charged. However, the
accuracy of any investigation is forfeited when only a singular interpretation is explored, as such is
the case in the Australian Curriculum. Many historians, when reviewing Australia s controversial...

Perceiving the Indigenous as an inferior and inevitably a dying race, the Australian government at
the turn of the century initiated legislation, such as in the 1909 Protection Act. And Assimilation
Policy, in the name of protection to gain control of the Indigenous populations (Nma.gov.au, n.d.).
The widespread forceful removal of many Indigenous children from their homes resulted in many
children living in constant fear of removal, whilst others were sheltered in missions. As was the
circumstance for a New South Wales women removed to Cootamundra Girls Home in the 1940 s:
They [workers at the girl s home] were cruel to us... I ve done things in that home that I don t think

The American Family Should Be Like The Cosby Show, A...
There are several shows that portray both social and political messages. While answering this
question, I can t help but focus on shows that have exhibited what the American family should be
like. The Cosby Show, a social message, is an American sitcom the show focuses on the
Huxtable s, an upper middle class African American family living in Brooklyn, NY. I think the
show set the standards for how African American families should live, although many of us don
t live that way. 4. Kendrick Lamar is a hip hop recording artist, and for the African American
community he has been a huge social movement. I realized this during a pop culture class I took
this semester. His new album, To Pimp A Butterfly specifically, shows his dedication to trying to
bring positivity to his listeners. He recognizes that hip hop has some responsibility for the
systematic problems that the black community has faced. And according to, Music.Mic, Hip hop
could have played a huge role in the death of Michael Brown, with a New York Times obituary
implying that Brown s hip hop aspirations somehow factored into Brown s death. 5. In simple
terms, a public relations nightmare is when someone s ( a company as a whole or an individual s)
reputation is damaged which in essence is a nightmare and there s the responsibility of restoring the
image to the public, which typically consists of supporters and investors of the company and/or
individual. An example would be the Volkswagen case. Volkswagen

Big Fish Movie Eval Essay
Big Fish
So this is a tall tale?
Well, it s not a short one...
Stories are our essence of life. They grow and change with us. They allow us to reconstruct the
past, and put our slant on things. They don t have make sense, and they don t all have to be fact.
That s what kind of story this is. Big Fish, directed by Tim Burton, is a heartwarming, comedic film,
with many twists and turns. It explores the world of an eccentric father, while telling his life story.
And so, our story begins.
It is Edward s myths, of course, that really reveal the man he is. Tim Burton mixes tender heartfelt
drama with zany, outrageous scenes, skipping from past to present, while keeping the tension alive.

This is the film s (fish) hook, and once it sinks itself in, it carries you on a journey that is
unexpected, enchanting, outrageous, and genuinely moving.
Edward s encounter with a witch (early in the film) plants a question in the audience s mind that
we know must be answered by film s end. When this is finally resolved (along with a number of
other things), the result is remarkable. I have rarely seen a collection of images that have stirred my
emotions so much.
In the end of the film, Will ends up taking on Edwards abilities by telling his father one of his
own stories on his deathbed. So the film came full circle and Will realized the importance of story
telling to his father, and to himself.
I did have a few problems with this film. The first would be the overly exaggerated southern
accent it tends to take away from a few of the scenes because you re more focused on how they
talk rather than what they re saying. Also I can see how very few can relate on a personal level to
this story. But either way this film breathes new life into story telling and gives it a new spin.
This is one of the most pleasant surprises to come out of the body of 2003 films. I never expected
this movie to reach me so deeply, but it has, and I imagine that many who treasure the magic of
storytelling will feel the same way. In less capable hands, Big Fish could be seen as a liar s a life. In
trying to reshape the world around his fantasy,

The Patient Will See You Now
HMO Book Report Poster: The Patient Will See You Now
Summary:
The book, The Patient Will See You Now, by Eric Topol, withholds an extreme amount of
educational value and discusses how the vast world of medicine can combine with the ever
expanding world of technology to make things such as medical information, diagnoses, treatments,
and even prescriptions at our fingertips. This book takes the point of view from Dr. Eric Topol, a
cardiologist who is trying to better the world of medicine while increasing the convenience of it at
the same time. The goal that Dr. Topol is trying to establish is that in this day and age, there is
absolutely no need for one to have to wait so long to see a doctor. In fact, why should the general
population have to wait what feels like hours in a waiting room, or even days for an appointment
to be made when everything can be presented right in front of us? Medicine is advancing at such
a fast rate that now scientists and doctors can find cures to diseases in a matter of months, or
sometimes even days after they are discovered. Since we have such high advances in the fields of
science and medicine, people all over the world (more than just doctors and nurses) should have
access to know what these diseases do and how to cure them the second that they are discovered.
This concept seems something that would be nearly impossible to achieve, but thanks to
breakthroughs in new technology and silicon, this dream can surely turn into a reality.

Home Ownership Is The American Dream !
Introduction
Home ownership is the American dream! It is one of the most costly purchases an individual or
family can make in their lifetime. Some people save until they have cash to purchase however,
many people borrow money from a bank or lending institution; when a person borrows money to
purchase a home the loan is called a mortgage. The lender is called the mortgagee and the borrower
is called the mortgagor; banks have several different types of mortgages: fixed rate mortgage,
adjustable rate mortgage, investment mortgage and much more. Borrowers have to undergo the
lender underwriting process to show financial capability of repaying the mortgage (Makarov
Plantin, 2013). In this article I will use a fictitious person named Julianna, she is in the process of
buying her first home at age 30; I will be her lender and will use mathematical procedures to find
out what is her down payment, principle, installment payment, points (closing cost), mortgage
maturity value and total interest paid.
Background
Julianna s real estate agent found her a home costing $600,000 in Queens, New York; she liked
the property and signed a contract to purchase and deposited $5,000. She is now left with a
balance due of $600,000 subtract $5,000 equal $595,000. She ordered an appraisal and it stated
that the market value of the property was $550,000. The appraiser found 3 properties almost
identical in the area that was recently sold; the 1rst was sold for $500,000, 2nd $550,000 and the

Hiring A Human Resource Department For A School District
The Objective of this document is to outline a hiring procedures manual that a Human Resource
Department for a school district might use to hiring an employee. Hiring is arguably the most
important function of the HR Department and a set of procedures should be in place to make the
steps move in an efficient manner. The HR Department wears many hats and is most cases
responsible for many areas: budget controlling, conflict resolution, training, employee satisfaction,
cost saving measures, strategic planning, and of course the big one...the hiring of the right
individuals. The hiring process needs to be an organized and well thought out set of procedures
from identifying who will be needed to the hiring and training of that individual. There are many
steps, some of which have legal ramifications, so the procedures need to be followed and reviewed
to ensure that the procedures are not only capturing the best candidates but the procedures comply
with all of the laws. A high level view of the HR Department s job includes: identifying the open
position, develop (or already have a developed job description) that includes the duties of that
position, collecting applications, screening applications, interviewing applicants, making the
decisions on who will get an offer, that actual hiring of that individual, and the training process. This
process is outlined in the attached HR procedures document. This document will outline seven areas:

The Problem Of Drug Use And Trafficking
Lil Draggin
(An essay on the problem of drug use and trafficking and the multiple possibilities of solving this
issue)
It has come to my attention that a certain issue needs to be addressed and if this issue continues to
grow then this town could see some serious changes and people could find themselves in serious
dilemmas. The issue I am addressing is drug use and trafficking that has been known of for many
years. Due to the fact that the least bit of attention has been brought upon drug trafficking it has
begun to grow and create a larger issue than some can even begin to imagine. Illicit drug trade
according to the world UN Drug Report is one of the largest global businesses, at some $322
billion (Shah,2008). Now in a sense it might be a risky business to get into, but that is fast cash
and might I say a good amount as well. Now this isn t the only issue I will bring up when you
notice that the attention is not given to this issue drugs can be in high demand and because no
one has done much to barricade these drugs it is extremely easy to obtain these drugs. My
solution for this problem comes in three s as a nation we should not make any drug legal, create
effective crime policies, and reducing demand. The first way we will decrease the drug trade is by
not making any drug legal to any civilian of this country. Drug legalization increasingly merits
serious consideration as both an analytical model and a policy option for addressing the drug
problem.

Is Man Inherently Evil
The Evil Within In Thomas Hobbes book Leviathan he writes that man is selfish, poor, and
brutish. He believes that man is inherently evil and their selfishness leads to war and negative

commit atrocities. One reason it is evident that man is inherently evil is because people spread
hatred. Social media is used today on a day to day basis, it is such a huge platform for
communication and entertainment. What it s supposed to be used for though, may not be how
people are using it. People take advantage of the fact that you can be anonymous on social media

shooting was the biggest Massacre in United States history. This shows how evil man can be
because they commit mass murders without a specific reason or outcome simply because man
feels hate. If man was born good, then why would they commit mass murders? It clearly shows
man is evil because man killed innocent people and a good person would never take someone s

Aboriginal Rights in Canada
There has been a great deal of contention over Aboriginal Rights in Canada. Much of this conflict
can be said to stem from the differences in both the philosophy and cultural systems of Aboriginal
and non aboriginal people, with much of it originating from the time of the original European
settlement of Canada(UBC Law, 2009). The focus of this conflict has been primarily on the rights
to land, sea and resources, as well as how the law is to apply to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada
(UBC Law, 2009).
Contention on law began early into the colonization period. Originally the Royal Proclamation of
1763, set by the British Crown, was in place to protect the land rights of Canadian Aboriginals
(UBC Law, 2009). The Royal Proclamation recognized Aboriginal title, and sought to establish
relations with the Aboriginals (UBC Law, 2009). Ultimately, the proclamation meant that there was
Crown recognition of land ownership, and that Aboriginal authority would continue under North
Americas new British reign (UBC Law, 2009). In order to protect these land rights, a provision
was made. The provision states that only the British Crown had the ability to acquire land in
Canada from the Aboriginal community, and could only do so by treaty (UBC Law, 2009). Thus,
the original Royal Proclamation of 1763 served to protect Aboriginal land rights under the British
Sovereignty.
However, despite British attempts to cement Aboriginal rights, the colonial governments did not
necessarily cooperate. In

We live in a realm of social standards. For instance, men and women are expected to be attracted to
the opposite sex. If an individual deviates from this social norm, he or she is considered to be odd
by numerous communities. Through socialization, we are taught that being heterosexual is normal.
Although being homosexual in today s society is simpler than it would be 100 years ago, it remains
a monumental challenge.
Music, movies, television shows, all educates us that an intimate relationship is assumed to be

empires at that time. The allies composed of the British and the French empires joined forces
with mighty Russia against the Central powers composed of Germany, Austria Hungary and the
Ottoman Empire. In 1917, three years after the war broke out, the Allies were joined by the
United States which forced a quick defeat of the Central Powers. The introduction of new weapon
technology and trench warfare caused an unimaginable amounts of destruction and deaths all over
the content of Europe where most of the fighting took place. By the time the Great War had ended
in 1918, more than 9 million soldiers had been killed and 21 million more injured. Many historians
of the 20th Century blame the generals of the Great War for the massive death toll, they lacked the
ability to adapt to the new warfare tactics and the horrifying modern weaponry. The Germans and
their allies began fighting in World War Ion two fronts, invading Belgium in the west in order to
attack France and defending all of the Russian attacks on

The Pros And Cons Of Anderson Water System
As we dive into the last weeks of summer, you may have heard about the water issues that have been
plaguing the Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. As Anderson Water Systems, a Rochester, NY
based water purification and filtration company, summarizes it, the waterways of the city have been
used as dumping grounds for garbage, sewage, and toxic chemicals for years, leaving the water
polluted and contaminated. Despite the assurances of the International Olympic Committee and the
recent opening of a new sewage treatment plant, various sailing teams are continuing to err on the
side of extreme caution, making sure to close their mouths so that water won t spray up into them
and washing their clothes with special antibacterial cleansers and detergents.... Show more content

Many American homes could benefit from water purification and filtration systems. Anderson
Water Systems explains that although municipal water systems have come a long way in terms of
water purification, there are still other possible sources that can cause unclean waters. Having been
in business for more than 60 years, they want you to be aware that old pipes can carry traces of
lead and that natural deposits and groundwater can contain various chemicals like arsenic, iron.
To combat these issues, Anderson Water Systems has crafted filtration systems that will purify the
water before you come in contact with it. By utilizing reverse osmosis, these systems can filter out
any contaminants and impurities. Whether we re drinking it from a tall glass or soaking in it in
the tub, water is such an integral aspect of our daily lives. Thanks to Anderson Water Systems, not
only will the water be cleaner and healthier, it will also taste much better.

Arguments Against Plea Bargain
Plea bargains have been a fundamental part of the United States justice system since the late 1800 s
history.com. From the time the plea bargain was implemented, its constitutionality has been
questioned. Although the arguments against plea bargains are justified, plea bargains are the best
option for the time being. Removing plea bargains would resolve various issues in the United State
s modern justice system, but the complications resulting from such a change would be simply
overwhelming. Throughout the years, the plea bargain has been repeatedly criticized. Not only has
the plea bargain been criticized, but some criticisms go to the extent of deeming it unconstitutional.
The plea bargain is sometimes regarded as unconstitutional for supposedly forcing accused citizens
to admit guilt. This statement is without question not true. The citizen is allowed to deny the plea
bargain unconditionally. This means every citizen of the United States is allowed a trial as it is
written in the constitution and is never forced to admit guilt. Although residents of the United
States are never forced to admit guilt, they can often be pressured into making that decision. There
are many reasons why this situation can occur, but it usually... Show more content on

Citizens can always be bailed out of jail during the process, but if they cannot afford the bail, this
is a major problem. The reasons plea bargains are not accountable for this problem is because
this situation would still occur without plea bargains. Along with the last issue, plea bargains
actually help this dilemma. This is again because plea bargains reduce the number of court cases.
Without plea bargains, the number of people waiting in jail for a trial would increase drastically.
On top of this, plea bargains provide an alternative option if the person in question does not want to
wait for their trial for extended periods of

Rhetorical Analysis Of Bassackwards
Rhetorical Analysis of Bassackwards Bassackwards by Jay Nordlinger, published by National
Review Digital on January 29, 2007, is a short article arguing why immigrants should learn to speak
English instead of supervisors learning the broken version of their language. Although Nordlinger
wants immigrants from all around the world to learn English, he mainly focuses his writing on
immigrants of Latin descent who speak Spanish. He talks about all the variations of Spanish that
are taught to supervisors and business owners to help them communicate with their workers. There
are classes such as Restaurant Spanish, Fireman Spanish, and Health Care Spanish. He then gives
us an example of Construction Spanish which is the most popular, by... Show more content on

This is done throughout the text because Nordlinger wants to make some kind of change in
society through the use of critical humor. The name of the article Bassackwards is a perfect
example of this scenario. The first thing someone sees when reading a book or article is the title.
Nordlinger capitalizes on this by using word play to give off the intended effect of amusement.
Bassackwards the title of Nordlinger s article is the backward version of ass backwards which
means backwards or in a contrary way. The title is very appropriate for the article because the
whole article is about how we mishandle the Spanish immigrant situation in America, and force
our supervisors and business owners to learn Spanish, instead of it being the other way around.
Therefore by naming this article Bassackwards not only does he uses satire but also gives the
reader an insight of what it will be about. Another great use of satire by Nordlinger is when he
talks about a situation that occurred at the time he was working at a firm in Washington, D.C.
He was told that, when he wanted boxes thrown away, he had to mark them BASURA.
Nordlinger rebelled at writing BASURA, thinking it s a gross act of separatism, and probably an
insult to the workers. He later on justifies his actions by saying In Guatemala, we would write
BASURA. But here we write TRASH. This is very effective because it makes the reader realize
how ridiculous it is to write BASURA for American workers. Even though they come from different
countries and speak different language they must learn English ...to join the American

Theological Controversy Of Nestorius
The early fifth century saw the rise of a new theological controversy, spearheaded by Nestorius,
Archbishop of Constantinople. Nestorius took issue with the designation of Mary as God
bearer, Theotokos, and instead claimed she should be Christ bearer, Christotokos. Cyril of
Alexandria, Patriarch of Alexandria, came out strongly against Nestorius and wrote On the
Unity of Christ to uphold Mary as Theotokos. For Cyril, the theology of Mary as God bearer is
essential and necessary to understanding how the incarnation works. This Mariology is seen not
only in On the Unity of Christ, but also in a prayer he composed as well. In these two writings of
differing scope and purpose, Cyril argues that denying Mary as God bearer also denies the
incarnation, and therefore the economy of salvation. Cyril argues three key points that must be true
in order for the incarnation to effectively save humanity: Jesusmust be a fully divine and equal
member of the Trinity; Jesus must be fully man and assume all of human flesh; and Christ had to be
born into the world through Immaculate Conception. These are... Show more content on

Cyril argues for Christ s divinity throughout On the Unity of Christ, such as when he
characterizes Christ as being ineffably begotten by nature from the Father and coeternal with
him as explained in John 1:14 (Cyril 53). Cyril then goes on to describe Christ as God in an
appearance like ours, and the Lord in the form of a slave. This is what we mean when we say
that he became flesh, and for the same reason we affirm that the holy virgin is the Mother of God
(Cyril 55). Although God took on flesh, no part of God s divinity was lost; rather, God s divinity
became coexistent in Christ s human

Black Bears Research Paper
Black bears are the smallest North American bears however; they are the largest land mammal in
New Jersey. Black bears evolved in thick forest and live in mixed hardwood forests, dense swamps
and forested wetlands. They naturally like to eat fresh leaves, berries, fruits, nuts, roots, insects,
bird eggs and small mammals. Black bearsare generally solitary animals, with the exception of a
sow and her cubs. They tend to be crepuscular, meaning they are most active shortly before
sunrise and again after sunset. Black bears are typically not aggressive and tend to be wary of
humans. However, since the early 2000s black bearand human interactions have become more
frequent. New Jersey has excellent bear habitat is found primarily within Sussex, Passaic, Warren

The New Jersey Fish and Game Council have come up with a management strategy to handle the
bear problem but the most effective way those far appears to be hunting the bears. In the early
2000s bear hunting was illegal and many people were against legalizing it again. In order to
compromise a bear hunting season was passed which was started in the beginning of December
and held concurrently with the state s six day firearm deer hunting season. Bear hunting zones
include large sections of Morris, Sussex, Warren, and northern Passaic counties, plus smaller areas
of Hunterdon, Somerset and Bergen counties. There is a limit of one bear per licensed and
registered hunter. This method of black bear population management was and is still successful. In
2003 and 2005 the success was based on 1) the target harvests were obtained; 2) the seasons were
conducted safely with no hunter accidents and without incident of trespassing or other complaints;
and 3) biological data on bears, hunter success and hunter participation was

During its years of operations, Bernard Madoff Investment Securities LLC (BMIS) was regarded
as a credible firm that provided it s investors with consistent returns. Investors were satisfied with
the results of BMIS, as the firm continued to do well even during downturns in the economy. This
all changed in December of 2008, when the investors of BMIS came to realize their returns were
nothing more than falsified words on paper.
BMIS was running a Ponzi scheme, in which investors were not paid real returns, but instead with
money provided by new investors. Normally, a Ponzi scheme cannot continue in the long run, as
money from new investors dries up and the firm is unable to pay promised returns. However, the
BMIS Ponzi scheme deliberately targeted wealthy investors and organizations, who were likely to
invest large sums of capital and unlikely to cash in their investments, especially if the firm was
making consistent returns.
Two organizations, that were independent of the company, were supposed to provide the checks
and balances that would not allow a scheme like this to continue. First was the Securities Exchange
Commission (SEC), whose role was to confirm that the trade transactions that BMIS was

The Last Duel by Eric Jager Essay
Story of the duel to end all duels
In the story The Last Duel by Eric Jager, fourteenth century in medieval France, a knight by the
name of Jean de Carrouges challenges a squire, Jacques Le Gris, to a duel. The reason for this
trial by combat, a court ordered duel intended by fate of God to determine the truth, was to seek
vengeance for the sake of his own honor. The wife of Jean Carrouges was the young, beautiful,
good, sensible, and modest Marguerite. She was expected to maintain a ladylike mannerism and
remain loyal to her husband. When the couple traveled to Capomensil to visit Carrouges mother in
law Marguerite stayed under her watch while Carrouges set out on a journey in desperate need of
cash. While away on his journey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It wasn t possible for him to succeed in this crime alone, so he had to of had help from someone.
His companion in this attack was a squire by the name of Adam Louvel, who Jacques secretly
summoned after he learned of Carrouges plan to visit Paris. Louvel served under Carrouges in
the Cotentin campaign and actually knew him well. Ironically Louvel had a house in
Capomesnil, where Marguerite was staying with her mother in law. It is very possible that
since Le Gris knew Carrouges was leaving on a journey he could have traveled to Capomesnil
and stayed with Louvel until his opportunity arose when Nicole de Carrouges left the house for a
short amount of time to handle business in Saint Pierre. This is where my suspicions of Le Gris
having everything planned grew because he must have known Nicole was called away to a town
six miles away, and accordingly planned and timed when he would enter the home, how long it
would take to complete the brutal attack, and enough time to leave and form an alibi.
Jacques Le Gris was established as a man who was known for seducing women. It was rumored
his approach to Marguerite was an offer of money for sex, but she did not care for his money and
wouldn t submit herself to his will . This is when the encounter became physical because Le Gris
was going to get what he wanted wether she liked it or not. For a woman, Marguerite fought long
and strong, but with the muscle between a man

Argumentative Essay About Kobe Bryant
As it stands today, Kobe Bryant is the best basketball player to have ever played the game. Some
argue that Michael Jordan was better, but he was not. Some argue that Lebron James is better,
but he is not. To compare him to the men who played the center position is a waste of time.
Obviously Shaquille O Neal, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kareem Abdul Jabbar were more dominant.
They were freaks of nature. What Kobe had that set him apart from everyone else was a skill set
and mentality that is unmatched. Kobe is the best player first and foremost because he was a
Los Angeles Laker for twenty years. Some may say that my bias towards Kobe as a Laker fan
discredits my argument, but it does not. First, a list of his accomplishments. Kobe was drafted
out of highschool at the age of seventeen, broke into the league by winning the Slam Dunk
contest in his rookie season, and by age of twenty five he was a three time world champion. He
was the youngest person to be named a NBA All Star at the age of nineteen. The combination of
his talents with the talents of Shaquille O Neal was the greatest one two punch of all time. That
is an objective fact. Shaq himself has even admitted that had the duo stayed together after the
2004 season, they most certainly would have gone on to win additional world championships, but
Kobe didn t need Shaq. When it was all said and done, Kobe ended up with five rings to his name
to O Neals four all five with the Lakers I might add. I won t lie, Kobe s days in

  • 2. Queer Is Not A Queer I was walking to my house from the bus stop one day with my neighbor, Michael, and I was joking about how I have a girl crush on Selena Gomez. I asked Michael, Hey, what male celebrity do you have a man crush on? He responded ferociously with, None. I m not a freaking queer. This is the exact type of mindset that transforms innocent words into ones dripping with negativity and spite. Language is one of the most powerful tools a person could have, and the way they utilize it reveals their character. As time progresses, words and their meanings can change. For my great aunt s generation, the word queer just simply meant weird or strange. However, as gayactivism has become much more prominent in society, the word queer is now mainly used to describe someone s sexual orientation. Queer is not a derogatory term unless used as such, and it is instead a term of equality and acceptance that should reverberate positive feelings. Sadly, this is not the only way people translate it, instead morphing it into a shameful word and a cutting insult. Until recently, queer had been primarily used to describe something odd. There was nothing derogatory about the word, it was just a normal, everyday adjective. Queer originally originated in Germany in the sixteenth century, meaning perverse. From there its use broadened to the term, not straight. This did not mean sexual identity necessarily, but it did mean out of character or not totally normal. Since then it evolved ... Nanny Alyona Frolovna told the children stories of ancient Russia, of Saint Sergey of Moscow subduing a bear by the power of his holiness, of heroes and legends and folk tales, Christianity and Russian myth intertwined ; the stories were so vivid and frightening that the children had trouble sleeping (Gunn 10). The Gothic novels of Ann Radcliffe were favorites of the Dostoevskys. Frank contends that Dostoevsky, influenced by Radcliffe, would later incorporate Gothic techniques of plot, character, and atmosphere and carry them to a peak of perfection that has never been surpassed (1976, 55). Among the literature read and discussed by the Dostoevsky fireside were the Bible, writings of Nikolai Karamzin, including History of the Russian State, Letters of a Russian Traveller, and Poor Liza; the poets Vasily Zhukovsky, Mikhail Y. Lermontov, Gavriil R. Derzhavin, and, of course, Alexander Pushkin; and the novelist Sir Walter Scott. Frank believes that the readings in the family circle were designed to stimulate and benefit the children and to turn them into Godfearing and loyal citizens of the Tsar (1976, 5960). Geir Kjetsaa reports that the Dostoevsky parents were fine readers and the two oldest boys [Mikhail and Fyodor] did not lag far behind them and is convinced that for Fyodor these reading sessions served as a literary foundation for his entire life (10). The influence of Fyodor s mother, his first teacher, was no doubt strong as she conveyed her love of poetry and novels as well as music. • 8. The Role Of Self Assembly And The Construction Of A... A nanoparticle is the most basic component in the construction of a nanostructure. In general, the size of a nanoparticle spans the range between 1 and 100 nm. The properties of many conventional materials change when formed from nanoparticles. This is typically because nanoparticles have a greater surface area per weight than larger particles which causes them to be more reactive than other molecules. Self assembly refers to the process by which nanoparticles or other distinct components spontaneously organize due to direct specific interactions and/or indirectly, through their environment. Self assembly is typically linked with thermodynamic equilibrium, the organization of the structures characterized the minimum of the system s free energy. An important aspect of self assembly is that the building blocks organize into macroscopic structures. This can happen through direct interactions (Interparticle forces) or through indirect interactions like using a template or external field as a guide. The grouping of matter in nanomaterials can be broken down into two techniques. Top down miniaturization techniques or bottom up methods which are typically based on self assembly or directed assembly. The most widely used materials in bottom up assembly are colloidmicro and nanoparticles. A lot of time and effort has recently been spent on the fabrication of functional materials from organized particles. These advanced assemblies can find applications in areas such as photonics, ... My intention in doing so is to highlight some of the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches and also modes in which they interact to better comprehend the nature of creativity and literariness. On the graphological level, in Text 1, the noticeable attributes are the traditional lineation, stanza divisions of poetry, and the presence of standard punctuation. The poem has 8 stanzas in all and each stanza consists of 4 lines. This creates a set rhythmic pattern, particularly in conjunction with the rhyme scheme. Text 2, on the other hand, on a graphic level, uses full capitalization in order to emphasize every letter in the ad and make it look trim and tidy. The headline uses larger, capital and bold letters to draw readers attention and make them curious about what the advertisement mainly has to say, leading them to continue on reading unconsciously by arousing their curiosity and desire to know more about the product and subsequently persuading them to buy it. Pros for Change There are many reasons the ISPs and others have given that argue for a need to change. The internet has certainly changed over the years, it would make some sense that things will have to evolve and change with it. There are some internet services that consume disproportionate amounts of bandwidth. The obvious example is Netflix. During peak hours of internet usage, Netflix stands head and shoulders above other applications. In 2013 CNET reported that Netflix was 31% of the total downstream traffic. This means that Netflix alone accounts for almost a third of all internet traffic during peak times. The strain upon ISPs to provide the necessary infrastructure to support the high bandwidth of video and audio streaming is a big argument for a change to Net Neutrality. This change has already been observed, as ISPs have effectively charged Netflix a premium in order to allow Netflix to reach its customers without crippling throttling. The below is from Sandvine, who is a Canadian ISP. They tracked the bandwidth usages during peak hours and came up with these startling findings. During the Heien era women had the most influence upon the social aesthetics of society at the time. They dictated what was beautiful in all things, including poetry, wardrobe, the arrangement of their homes and gardens. Such a profound influence has continued to be important within Japan today, as many of the Heian precepts of beauty are still considered the height of society today. Beauty, in all things, was considered of utmost importance: in language, the written word, the spoken word, the costume, gardens, and in the very essence of the culture. Mono no aware, a term coined in the 19th century by Motoori Norinaga in regards to the Heian concept of beauty, best describes the Heian thoughts of beauty. Several people do not believe that it is an actual notion due to it rarely being mentioned unlike brotherhood. Men standing as one remains a more believable idea than women standing as one. The blame for that would be attributable to society and its sexist views. Males have taken over as the main root for society which has led to women being degraded more often than not. Society enjoys putting women down for incidents that they praise men for. In fact, society has taught women to verbally attack other women in matters that others consider potentially wrong. However, that is not the basis of sisterhood. Sisterhood exists based on women lifting other women up and essentially being there for one another instead of oppressing them. Women should not feel beaten down by other women considering they are all one in the same. The poem GoblinMarket by Christina Rossettiand the film Steel Magnolias directed by Herbert Ross shows true sisterhood in which women come together and perform everything they can to assist other struggling women even when the people of society, including other females, are trying to sever their bonds. Antegren Case Study 9 408 025 NOVEMBER 14, 2007 JOSHUA MARGOLIS THOMAS DELONG TERRY HEYMANN Antegren: A Beacon of Hope As Jim Mullen, CEO of Biogen Idec, drove into work on February 19, 2004, he considered both the tremendous hope and stiff challenge generated by the company the previous day. The company had announced its intention to submit an application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seeking approval for Antegren, a drug that Biogen Idec was developing in partnership with Elan to treat multiple sclerosis (MS). While the patient community and investors greeted the news with excitement, Mullen knew that to fulfill the promise of Antegren, he would need to make a number of crucial decisions and the company would need to bring the drug to ... Early FDA approval would mean short circuiting that whole methodical process, and it was unclear if this could be finalized before the drug was approved. Although all the signals from the FDA were positive, there was also the risk that the FDA, which itself had been going through a period of upheaval, would not approve Antegren. If this happened, the reputation risk to Antegren could be irreversible, even if it was approved at a later date after further trials. Mullen knew his responsibility was nothing short of transforming the promise of Antegren into reality. He had to determine how to get the drug made and accessible to patients, and he had to lead the company to execute in record time on those plans. Mullen knew Biogen Idec could fulfill the high hopes of patients and investors, and now his task was to lead the company to do so. The term exoskeleton is used to describe a device that augments the wearers performance, while the term orthosis is used to describe a device used to assist a person with limb pathology. Lower extremity exoskeletons seek to circumvent the limitations of autonomous legged robots by adding a human operator to the system. The system is designed in parallel with human limbs to augment human strength and endurance during locomotion. The basic system design consists of two powered anthropomorphic legs, a power unit, associated actuators, sensors, and a control unit. When designing exoskeletons it is necessary to understand the biomechanics of human walking. The human walking gait cycle is represented on a scale of 0% to 100% and includes several notable phases shown in Figure 1. The structure of a human leg contains total of 7 Degrees of Freedom (DOF) with three rotational DOFs located at the hip, one at the knee and three at the ankle. Degrees of Freedom are directional factors that affect the range of independent motion in a system. Biomechanical measures of level ground walking at the hip, knee, and ankle are shown in Figure 2. The Pros And Cons Of Capital Punishment The death penalty is put into place when a person of some sort commits murder or rape or something to an extreme extent, is lethally injected and put to death because of the crime. To put it in perspective think about it this way, you re a thirty four year old with a spouse, and three young children, a man the age of sixty seven brutally murders your spouse, would you want that man to spend the rest of his life with a roof over his head and three square meals a day, or would you prefer he be lethally injected and slowly and put to sleep? Although there are many reasons to stick with a life sentence for criminals, there are even more reasons to implement capital punishment, or the death penalty. The history of the death penalty, or capital punishment dates all the way back to colonial times, when the Europeans came to the new world. One of the first executions on record was Captain George Kendall in 1612. Kendall was executed for being a spy for Spain. In the mid to late 1800 s criminal began to receive a reformation sentence, which would be a twenty five Years to life sentence. They allow us to reconstruct the past, and put our slant on things. They don t have make sense, and they don t all have to be fact. That s what kind of story this is. When this is finally resolved (along with a number of other things), the result is remarkable. I have rarely seen a collection of images that have stirred my emotions so much. In the end of the film, Will ends up taking on Edwards abilities by telling his father one of his own stories on his deathbed. So the film came full circle and Will realized the importance of story telling to his father, and to himself. I did have a few problems with this film. The first would be the overly exaggerated southern accent it tends to take away from a few of the scenes because you re more focused on how they talk rather than what they re saying. The Patient Will See You Now HMO Book Report Poster: The Patient Will See You Now Summary: The book, The Patient Will See You Now, by Eric Topol, withholds an extreme amount of educational value and discusses how the vast world of medicine can combine with the ever expanding world of technology to make things such as medical information, diagnoses, treatments, and even prescriptions at our fingertips. This book takes the point of view from Dr. Eric Topol, a cardiologist who is trying to better the world of medicine while increasing the convenience of it at the same time. The goal that Dr. Topol is trying to establish is that in this day and age, there is absolutely no need for one to have to wait so long to see a doctor. In fact, why should the general population have to wait what feels like hours in a waiting room, or even days for an appointment to be made when everything can be presented right in front of us? Medicine is advancing at such a fast rate that now scientists and doctors can find cures to diseases in a matter of months, or sometimes even days after they are discovered. Since we have such high advances in the fields of science and medicine, people all over the world (more than just doctors and nurses) should have access to know what these diseases do and how to cure them the second that they are discovered. This concept seems something that would be nearly impossible to achieve, but thanks to breakthroughs in new technology and silicon, this dream can surely turn into a reality. ... Some people save until they have cash to purchase however, many people borrow money from a bank or lending institution; when a person borrows money to purchase a home the loan is called a mortgage. The lender is called the mortgagee and the borrower is called the mortgagor; banks have several different types of mortgages: fixed rate mortgage, adjustable rate mortgage, investment mortgage and much more. Borrowers have to undergo the lender underwriting process to show financial capability of repaying the mortgage (Makarov Plantin, 2013). In this article I will use a fictitious person named Julianna, she is in the process of buying her first home at age 30; I will be her lender and will use mathematical procedures to find out what is her down payment, principle, installment payment, points (closing cost), mortgage maturity value and total interest paid. The issue I am addressing is drug use and trafficking that has been known of for many years. Due to the fact that the least bit of attention has been brought upon drug trafficking it has begun to grow and create a larger issue than some can even begin to imagine. Illicit drug trade according to the world UN Drug Report is one of the largest global businesses, at some $322 billion (Shah,2008). Now this isn t the only issue I will bring up when you notice that the attention is not given to this issue drugs can be in high demand and because no one has done much to barricade these drugs it is extremely easy to obtain these drugs. My solution for this problem comes in three s as a nation we should not make any drug legal, create effective crime policies, and reducing demand. The first way we will decrease the drug trade is by not making any drug legal to any civilian of this country. Drug legalization increasingly merits serious consideration as both an analytical model and a policy option for addressing the drug problem. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Aboriginal Rights in Canada There has been a great deal of contention over Aboriginal Rights in Canada. Much of this conflict can be said to stem from the differences in both the philosophy and cultural systems of Aboriginal and non aboriginal people, with much of it originating from the time of the original European settlement of Canada(UBC Law, 2009). The focus of this conflict has been primarily on the rights to land, sea and resources, as well as how the law is to apply to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada (UBC Law, 2009). Contention on law began early into the colonization period. Originally the Royal Proclamation of 1763, set by the British Crown, was in place to protect the land rights of Canadian Aboriginals (UBC Law, 2009). The Royal Proclamation recognized Aboriginal title, and sought to establish relations with the Aboriginals (UBC Law, 2009). Ultimately, the proclamation meant that there was Crown recognition of land ownership, and that Aboriginal authority would continue under North Americas new British reign (UBC Law, 2009). In order to protect these land rights, a provision was made. The provision states that only the British Crown had the ability to acquire land in Canada from the Aboriginal community, and could only do so by treaty (UBC Law, 2009). Thus, the original Royal Proclamation of 1763 served to protect Aboriginal land rights under the British Sovereignty. • 42. Arguments Against Plea Bargain Plea bargains have been a fundamental part of the United States justice system since the late 1800 s history.com. From the time the plea bargain was implemented, its constitutionality has been questioned. Although the arguments against plea bargains are justified, plea bargains are the best option for the time being. Removing plea bargains would resolve various issues in the United State s modern justice system, but the complications resulting from such a change would be simply overwhelming. Throughout the years, the plea bargain has been repeatedly criticized. Not only has the plea bargain been criticized, but some criticisms go to the extent of deeming it unconstitutional. The plea bargain is sometimes regarded as unconstitutional for supposedly forcing accused citizens to admit guilt. This statement is without question not true. The citizen is allowed to deny the plea bargain unconditionally. This means every citizen of the United States is allowed a trial as it is written in the constitution and is never forced to admit guilt. Although residents of the United States are never forced to admit guilt, they can often be pressured into making that decision. There are many reasons why this situation can occur, but it usually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Citizens can always be bailed out of jail during the process, but if they cannot afford the bail, this is a major problem. The reasons plea bargains are not accountable for this problem is because this situation would still occur without plea bargains. Along with the last issue, plea bargains actually help this dilemma. This is again because plea bargains reduce the number of court cases. Without plea bargains, the number of people waiting in jail for a trial would increase drastically. On top of this, plea bargains provide an alternative option if the person in question does not want to wait for their trial for extended periods of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Rhetorical Analysis Of Bassackwards Rhetorical Analysis of Bassackwards Bassackwards by Jay Nordlinger, published by National Review Digital on January 29, 2007, is a short article arguing why immigrants should learn to speak English instead of supervisors learning the broken version of their language. Although Nordlinger wants immigrants from all around the world to learn English, he mainly focuses his writing on immigrants of Latin descent who speak Spanish. He talks about all the variations of Spanish that are taught to supervisors and business owners to help them communicate with their workers. There are classes such as Restaurant Spanish, Fireman Spanish, and Health Care Spanish. He then gives us an example of Construction Spanish which is the most popular, by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is done throughout the text because Nordlinger wants to make some kind of change in society through the use of critical humor. The name of the article Bassackwards is a perfect example of this scenario. The first thing someone sees when reading a book or article is the title. Nordlinger capitalizes on this by using word play to give off the intended effect of amusement. Bassackwards the title of Nordlinger s article is the backward version of ass backwards which means backwards or in a contrary way. The title is very appropriate for the article because the whole article is about how we mishandle the Spanish immigrant situation in America, and force our supervisors and business owners to learn Spanish, instead of it being the other way around. Therefore by naming this article Bassackwards not only does he uses satire but also gives the reader an insight of what it will be about. Another great use of satire by Nordlinger is when he talks about a situation that occurred at the time he was working at a firm in Washington, D.C. He was told that, when he wanted boxes thrown away, he had to mark them BASURA. Nordlinger rebelled at writing BASURA, thinking it s a gross act of separatism, and probably an insult to the workers. He later on justifies his actions by saying In Guatemala, we would write BASURA. But here we write TRASH. This is very effective because it makes the reader realize how ridiculous it is to write BASURA for American workers. Even though they come from different countries and speak different language they must learn English ...to join the American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Theological Controversy Of Nestorius The early fifth century saw the rise of a new theological controversy, spearheaded by Nestorius, Archbishop of Constantinople. Nestorius took issue with the designation of Mary as God bearer, Theotokos, and instead claimed she should be Christ bearer, Christotokos. Cyril of Alexandria, Patriarch of Alexandria, came out strongly against Nestorius and wrote On the Unity of Christ to uphold Mary as Theotokos. For Cyril, the theology of Mary as God bearer is essential and necessary to understanding how the incarnation works. This Mariology is seen not only in On the Unity of Christ, but also in a prayer he composed as well. In these two writings of differing scope and purpose, Cyril argues that denying Mary as God bearer also denies the incarnation, and therefore the economy of salvation. Cyril argues three key points that must be true in order for the incarnation to effectively save humanity: Jesusmust be a fully divine and equal member of the Trinity; Jesus must be fully man and assume all of human flesh; and Christ had to be born into the world through Immaculate Conception. These are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cyril argues for Christ s divinity throughout On the Unity of Christ, such as when he characterizes Christ as being ineffably begotten by nature from the Father and coeternal with him as explained in John 1:14 (Cyril 53). Cyril then goes on to describe Christ as God in an appearance like ours, and the Lord in the form of a slave. This is what we mean when we say that he became flesh, and for the same reason we affirm that the holy virgin is the Mother of God (Cyril 55). Although God took on flesh, no part of God s divinity was lost; rather, God s divinity became coexistent in Christ s human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Black bears evolved in thick forest and live in mixed hardwood forests, dense swamps and forested wetlands. They naturally like to eat fresh leaves, berries, fruits, nuts, roots, insects, bird eggs and small mammals. Black bearsare generally solitary animals, with the exception of a sow and her cubs. They tend to be crepuscular, meaning they are most active shortly before sunrise and again after sunset. Black bears are typically not aggressive and tend to be wary of humans. However, since the early 2000s black bearand human interactions have become more frequent. The New Jersey Fish and Game Council have come up with a management strategy to handle the bear problem but the most effective way those far appears to be hunting the bears. In the early 2000s bear hunting was illegal and many people were against legalizing it again. In order to compromise a bear hunting season was passed which was started in the beginning of December and held concurrently with the state s six day firearm deer hunting season. Bear hunting zones include large sections of Morris, Sussex, Warren, and northern Passaic counties, plus smaller areas of Hunterdon, Somerset and Bergen counties. There is a limit of one bear per licensed and registered hunter. This method of black bear population management was and is still successful. In 2003 and 2005 the success was based on 1) the target harvests were obtained; 2) the seasons were conducted safely with no hunter accidents and without incident of trespassing or other complaints; and 3) biological data on bears, hunter success and hunter participation was ... Kilfoyle 04 76 502 20 Executive Summary During its years of operations, Bernard Madoff Investment Securities LLC (BMIS) was regarded as a credible firm that provided it s investors with consistent returns. Investors were satisfied with the results of BMIS, as the firm continued to do well even during downturns in the economy. This all changed in December of 2008, when the investors of BMIS came to realize their returns were nothing more than falsified words on paper. BMIS was running a Ponzi scheme, in which investors were not paid real returns, but instead with money provided by new investors. Normally, a Ponzi scheme cannot continue in the long run, as money from new investors dries up and the firm is unable to pay promised returns. However, the BMIS Ponzi scheme deliberately targeted wealthy investors and organizations, who were likely to invest large sums of capital and unlikely to cash in their investments, especially if the firm was making consistent returns. Two organizations, that were independent of the company, were supposed to provide the checks and balances that would not allow a scheme like this to continue. First was the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), whose role was to confirm that the trade transactions that BMIS was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Last Duel by Eric Jager Essay Story of the duel to end all duels In the story The Last Duel by Eric Jager, fourteenth century in medieval France, a knight by the name of Jean de Carrouges challenges a squire, Jacques Le Gris, to a duel. The reason for this trial by combat, a court ordered duel intended by fate of God to determine the truth, was to seek vengeance for the sake of his own honor. The wife of Jean Carrouges was the young, beautiful, good, sensible, and modest Marguerite. She was expected to maintain a ladylike mannerism and remain loyal to her husband. When the couple traveled to Capomensil to visit Carrouges mother in law Marguerite stayed under her watch while Carrouges set out on a journey in desperate need of cash. While away on his journey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It wasn t possible for him to succeed in this crime alone, so he had to of had help from someone. His companion in this attack was a squire by the name of Adam Louvel, who Jacques secretly summoned after he learned of Carrouges plan to visit Paris. Louvel served under Carrouges in the Cotentin campaign and actually knew him well. Ironically Louvel had a house in Capomesnil, where Marguerite was staying with her mother in law. It is very possible that since Le Gris knew Carrouges was leaving on a journey he could have traveled to Capomesnil and stayed with Louvel until his opportunity arose when Nicole de Carrouges left the house for a short amount of time to handle business in Saint Pierre. This is where my suspicions of Le Gris having everything planned grew because he must have known Nicole was called away to a town six miles away, and accordingly planned and timed when he would enter the home, how long it would take to complete the brutal attack, and enough time to leave and form an alibi. Jacques Le Gris was established as a man who was known for seducing women. It was rumored his approach to Marguerite was an offer of money for sex, but she did not care for his money and wouldn t submit herself to his will . This is when the encounter became physical because Le Gris was going to get what he wanted wether she liked it or not. For a woman, Marguerite fought long and strong, but with the muscle between a man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Argumentative Essay About Kobe Bryant As it stands today, Kobe Bryant is the best basketball player to have ever played the game. Some argue that Michael Jordan was better, but he was not. Some argue that Lebron James is better, but he is not. To compare him to the men who played the center position is a waste of time. Obviously Shaquille O Neal, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kareem Abdul Jabbar were more dominant. They were freaks of nature. What Kobe had that set him apart from everyone else was a skill set and mentality that is unmatched. Kobe is the best player first and foremost because he was a Los Angeles Laker for twenty years. Some may say that my bias towards Kobe as a Laker fan discredits my argument, but it does not. First, a list of his accomplishments. Kobe was drafted out of highschool at the age of seventeen, broke into the league by winning the Slam Dunk contest in his rookie season, and by age of twenty five he was a three time world champion. He was the youngest person to be named a NBA All Star at the age of nineteen. The combination of his talents with the talents of Shaquille O Neal was the greatest one two punch of all time. That is an objective fact. Shaq himself has even admitted that had the duo stayed together after the 2004 season, they most certainly would have gone on to win additional world championships, but Kobe didn t need Shaq. When it was all said and done, Kobe ended up with five rings to his name to O Neals four all five with the Lakers I might add. I won t lie, Kobe s days in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
