Ethnography Research Papers
Our Ethnography Research is how student s religious views affect their political views from a
standpoint of three different religions. Since we live in a college town, we decided the
appropriate demographic should be a college student between the age of 18 and 21. I got to
interview a close friend of mine, Danny. Danny is a sophomore at Oregon State University and he
describes himself as a Seventh Day Adventist, which is a smaller branch of Christianity and as a
Democrat. I got to ask him many questions that one would not usually get asked, which made the
interview fairly difficult, but I got to meet an entirely new friend.
The first question is, What do you feel shapes your view on pro choice / pro life? His response was
pro life because of his religion. Danny believes that he is pro life because his parents raised him to
accept every blessing as a gift from God. Along with that he reckons that a parent that aborts their
child should receive a considerable punishment. If the parents do not want to keep the child they
should give it up for adoption instead of aborting a gift from God. As a Christian ... Show more

His parents are against gun control because they believe that guns are good for protection, which
he completely disagrees with. He thinks that guns dangerous and they should be harder to obtain.
He believes that the government should make it harder for people to purchase weapons. He used
the recent shootings as an example of what happens when we do not have strong gun control. With
stronger gun control, we can prevent future shootings. I disagree with Danny and agree with his
parents, the second amendment says that people have the right to keep and bear arms. I know that
they are dangerous, but possessing one does not always that you have a bad intention of using

Effects Of Advertising On Obesity
Introduction In this paper analysis it is my intent to address the topic of television advertisement s
effects on the obesity of children. Does advertising to children raise their obesity rate? Or is there
no correlation at all? This is an important topic that should be addressed because children are
susceptible to many influences (the younger the children the more susceptible they are), one of the
biggest influences being mass media. Or more specifically, advertising. If television advertising
does have an effect on children obesity, the health of society s children is at risk.
As stated in an article written by the American Psychological Association (APA), The Impact of
Food Advertising On Childhood Obesity , half of the advertisements exposed to children are
food orientated. And, the majority of those food ads are advertising unhealthy products, Food
ads on television make up 50 percent of all the ad time on children s shows. These ads are almost
completely dominated by unhealthy food products (34 percent for candy and snacks, 28 percent
for cereal, 10 percent for fast food, 4 percent for dairy products, 1 percent for fruit juices, and 0
percent for fruits or vegetables). Children are rarely exposed to public service announcements or
advertising for healthier foods, (APA). By conducting studies on children roughly under the age of
16 and analyzing their television watch time and weight (or more specifically their BMI scores), a
possible causal relationship could be

Staphylococcus aureus Essay example
Staphylococcus aureus
Life History and Characteristics: Staphylococcus aureus is a gram positive bacterium that is
usually found in the nasal passages and on the skin of 15 to 40% of healthy humans, but can also
survive in a wide variety of locations in the body. This bacterium is spread from person to person
or to fomite by direct contact. Colonies of S. aureus appear in pairs, chains, or clusters. S. aureus is
not an organism that is contained to one region of the world and is a universal health concern,
specifically in the food handling industries.
Diseases: The most common health concern associated with S. aureus is food poisoning caused by
the release of enterotoxins, even in small doses, into food. Release of less than 1 ... Show more

The release of two exotoxins from certain strains of S. aureus can lead to Staphylococcal scaled skin
syndrome (SSSS), which is characterized by blistering skin. Invasion into the body can lead to
more serious health problems including pneumonia (a frequent complication of influenza), mastitis,
phlebitis (inflammation of the veins), meningitis, and urinary tract infections. If the bacterium is
allowed to colonize even deeper tissues more serious conditions such as osteomyelitis and
endocarditis may result. The most serious consequences of these deeper tissue infections occur
when the bacterium invades the bloodstream leading to septic shock and possibly death.
Virulence Factors: The most important virulence factor of S. aureus is the specific surface proteins
that allow the organism to attach to host proteins. The surface proteins of this bacterium allow it to
attach to host proteins such as laminin and fibronectin, which form the extracellular matrix of
epithelial and endothelial cells. S. aureus also produces a number of membrane damaging toxins
that allow the organism to further invade and harm the host, of which the alpha toxin is the most
well studied and is the protein responsible for septic shock. The alpha toxin is a protein that binds
to a specific receptor in platelets and monocytes in humans, forming pores that eventually destroy
the cell.
A second toxin that is significant in human infection is the gamma toxin (also called leukotoxin)
which

The Summer Break Of 2013
During the summer break of 2013 I was an eager soon to be a sophomore. Even with summer
break, I faced a stressful combination of summer school, Crew soccer club practice, and homework.
To cope with them, I unknowingly turned to unhealthy eating and sleep deprivation.
As you can imagine my summer did not go the way I expected it to. I finished summer school in
the middle of July when I woke up with a sudden, harsh, and excruciating pain in my lower
abdomen. I couldn t bare to even get up from bed. I thought maybe I needed to go to the
bathroom, which didn t solve the problem. I was sweating continuously. All I could do was cry in
the fetal position. It felt as if a professional boxer was jabbing my lower abdomen from left to right.

I was scared for my life that this might be the end.
That following night I went into the operating room. After the surgery, I had to stay in the hospital
for 4 days. It was the worst experience I ever had. I had no appetite, all I had was water. Even
though my appendix was removed, I still felt the pain in my lower abdomen. I had to walk
around the hospital floor in order to relieve some air from my stomach. It was very quiet and
dark since barely any sunlight came through the windows. The cold air made me feel sick to my
stomach. It was depressing to see young children on ventilating machines or babies placed in clear
boxes because of their conditions. Each time I walked in the hallways passing each room, I was
crying. Being stuck in this environment made me want to leave immediately. There was no happy
place for me.
I was able to get a lot of support from the nurses and doctor who always checked up on me. My
uncle, who is a doctor of Chiropractic visited me daily to make adjustments on my spine. As each
day passed, the pain was slowly fading away. Although I had help, I on my own, had to continue
to walk until I finally felt better. Fortunately, after 3 days, I was able to walk around freely, gained
my appetite back and was finally discharged from the hospital.
Back at home, I had to stay inside the house and not do any physical activity which was difficult
to cope with because I felt useless. My incisions were still healing at the time so I

Arthritis Pain
How to cope with Arthritis Pain
Arthritis is one of the leading causes of pain in the world. According to statistics, the disease
sends over 20 million people to the doctor s office each year. In order for you to know how to
cope with arthritis pain, you must first get a proper diagnosis to establish the type of arthritis you
may be suffering from. Early diagnosis and treatments provide a better chance for preventing
disability and joint damage.
Arthritis pain is caused by inflammation, damage to joint tissues, muscle strains and fatigue.
Here are some ways you can cope with arthritis pain.
Research more on your condition
Finding out the cause of your pain will help you learn how to control it. The internet has numerous
resources and books which provide valuable information about the various types of arthritis. Having

Additionally, exercise helps to ease symptoms of chronic pain that may be brought about by
osteoarthritis. Occupational and physical therapists are some specialists who may recommend the
right exercise program depending on your needs.
Adopt proper eating habits
A well balanced diet plays a huge role in easing arthritic pain. Vitamins and calcium are known to
promote healthy bones. Omega 3 fatty acids reduce inflammation and keep the joints healthy.
Arthritis patients should also need to be careful about their weight. This is because the extra
pounds overload the joints and this increases the risk of cartilage breakdown. Taking the pressure
off the knees will help you manage the pain more effectively.
Avoid stress
Avoiding stress is one of the ways to keep the pain at bay. Studies suggests patients who engage in
their favourite hobbies and keep a sense of humor are able to cope with their pain compared to their
counterparts who are stuck at home doing nothing. You can also use calming statements and
distractions to drive away any negative

Increase In Minimum Wage
The minimum wage is a metric which dictates the minimum cost that low wage labor has on a firm
(Lopresti and Mumford 2016). Wages are a cost, but may conversely be understood as an incentive
for employees. The minimum wage determines the quality of work which is supplied to employers.
An increase in the minimum wageimproves wagegrowth for workers, increases the supply of
workers, and creates a competitive environment which allocates jobs to the most qualified
workers, thereby increasing efficiency and quality in the market. First, the minimum wage sets a
common standard for how employers determine pay for low wage workers. Lopresti and
Mumford (2016) state that an increase in the minimum wage less than 5% has a negative impact
on wages for low income workers; a minimum wage increase greater than 20% showed significant
improvement in the wage growth of the same group. Setting a low wage growth standard is
harmful to the worker. However, a significant increase in the minimum wage would set a high wage
growth standard. A high wage growth, for the employed worker, increases their income and
financial stability.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The minimum wage, by the nature of its pay, attracts workers with minimal experience and
training. The cost of increasing the minimum wage may not appear beneficial. Ippolito (2003)
argues that an increase in the minimum wage widens the pool of workers who apply for jobs.
The larger supply includes higher skilled workers who are willing to work hard to retain or obtain
a job. Kaufman (2010) states that an increase in the supply of workers brings the labor market to a
competitive equilibrium and incentivizes firms to retain or hire employees who provide high
quality work since the marginal cost to pay inefficient employees has

Special Effects Makeup Artists
Many of the aspiring special effects make up artists begin their careers by seeking low paying
jobs as an intern or assistant to train with a more experienced artist. Whether they pursue
training they must still have a keen eye when it comes to the usage of colors. The most
important tool for a special effects make up artist to have is their personality. This is of up most
importance due to the ability to network and maintain positive work relations with other
professionals in this field and it is the difference between success and failure. Special effects
makeup artist help to create a seamless connection between the live actors/actresses and the
fantasy around them. Their job is to not only make an actor/actress look more beautiful, but in
most cases it is used to make them appear scary and beat up looking or even inhuman. Artists in
this position must answer to both the costume designer and special effects department. The main
difference between a makeup artist and a special effects makeup artist is that special effects are
used to bring to life the three dimensional vision of the director and production team. Methods such
as sculpting, painting, and drawing are used to help communicate ideas. Prospective employers
look for skill, detail oriented, realistic, and of the highest quality. The field allows you to be creative,

the effect of theatric appearances. Creativity is key to creating versatile appearances to give the

Vladimir Lenin As A Hero
Heroes come in many shapes and sizes, throughout time many of them have risen and fallen. A
hero is characterized as someone that is a leader to his people, they reflect societal views, and yet
they have a major flaw that often causes their downfall. During the 20th century a revolutionary
man rose from his years of exile to lead the Bolshevik party into power, his name, Vladimir Lenin.
Lenin stands as a prime example of a leader that reflects Russias social values, and as a flaw for his
outspoken nature suffers from a near death assassination. Vladimir Lenin, like Achilles, looked for
ways that benefited him in order to gain power, he was an aggressive man that had a certain set of
beliefs that led to become a Marxist. Lenin enrolled in the Kazan University, only to be expelled
within his first term for participating in a student demonstration. During his time from his studies,
Lenin immersed himself in revolutionary politics, taking a large interest in Karl Marxs writings, this
later played a large influence during his time of power. Lenin in many cases is similar to
Achilles, a fictional warrior from the Iliad. In book 22, Priam compares Achilles to Orion s dog,
to Greeks this is a bad omen. Priam then turns to his son, who stands outside the gates of Troy,
and tells him this, He is more powerful by far than you, and pitiless (143, bk 22, lines 47 48).

The Importance Of Child Care In America
According to the NACCRRA 2014 Child Care in State of Missouri report, thirty eight (38)
percent of all requests for child care to the child care resource and referral programs were for
both infant toddler care and preschool alike. Eighty four (84) percent, up by 11% since 2010, of
families are looking for full time child care with 21% needing before and after care. An incongruity
between supply and demand continues to exit. As families continue to transition from public
assistance to work, school, and job training, the largest obstacle they face is affordable, accessible

story changes hands and is told from multiple peoples point of view as the book continues. The
main people who narrate the story are Gogol, Mrs. Ganguli, Mr. Ganguli, and Moushumi. The
book which covers a significant time gap or about thirty years starts off with Mrs. Ganguli
pregnant with Gogol. Gogol was names so after the Russian author Nikolai Gogol. He is named so
because his father Ashoke had been reading a book written by Gogol years prior while on a train

Performance Enhancing Drugs Among Athletes Essay
Since the dawn of the twenty first century, performance enhancing drugs have become a religious
practice in the lives of some sport figures. The use of these supplements have given the user an
edge, an edge to perform at maximum capability. Most major athletes all agree on the fact that the
competitive determination to win is intense. Despite all, most athletes have high hopes of either
winning a medal, a full ride college scholarship or the once in a lifetime opportunity to play for a
professional team. In such nature, the use of performance enhancing drugshas become increasingly
recurrent (Athletes Drug Use). Accomplishing such goals includes taking performance enhancing
drugs. As society evolves and progresses, one has to realize... Show more content on

The more oxygen flowing through blood and muscle, the better the athlete performs. Any athlete
who uses a performance enhancing drug to deliver more oxygen to their muscles will perform for
longer periods of time throughout the physical activity. Another likely reason an athlete would use
performance enhancing drugs is simply to stimulate the body (Athletes Drug Use). Athletes
constantly need to keep their body stimulated to simply reduce fatigue, gain assertion, and
maintain aggression (Athletes Drug Use). Which is really not much different from a person
drinking coffee in the morning to perk up. Importantly, athletes would use performance enhancing
drugs to mask injuries (Athletes Drug Use). For example, if a wide receiver breaks his finger or
sprains his knee during a game, there are two options: one, the wide receiver can be taken out of
the game or two, the athletic trainer can give the wide receiver an injection to take the pain away,
allowing him to return to the remainder of the game. With the reasons for taking performance
enhancing drugs in mind, this essay should mention the many categories of performance enhancing
drugs available on the market today, including, growth hormones (HGH), pain killers, supplements,
and steroids. In all aspects of sports, athletes all have one common goal, success. Athletes often rely
on the use of these substances in hopes of gaining college scholarships, and playing for a
professional team. Although

Social Attitudes In The Great Gatsby
I felt a haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in others young clerks in the dusk, wasting
the most poignant moments of night and life (Fitzgerald, p.xx). This is the feeling one might
feel in their lives no matter how much money they have. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote The Great
Gatsby to portray the different social attitudes within the upper class. F. Scott Fitzgerald was
born Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald on September 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was 29
years old when The Great Gatsby was published on April 10, 1925. In The Great Gatsby,
Fitzgerald sheds light on the different personalities between the aged rich families and the
modern rich families. An example of the sophistication of Gatsby are the elaborate parties he
throws for the people he invites, while on the other hand, Tom and Daisy have a simple dinner
with only a few people over. The emptiness one might feel at any time in their life cannot be
fulfilled with money but only with other friends surrounding one. Gatsby is characterized as a
very elaborate man sophisticated in his ways. He is always seen throwing extravagant parties
with only the best of the best belongings in his home. One week ends his Rolls Royce became an
omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past
midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains. (
Melville, p.39). Nick explains the bizarre lifestyle that Gatsby had with all his parties. Although,
throughout Gatsby s life, the reader is able to see the emptiness he feels without Daisy. I,m just
going to wait here and see if he tries to bother her about that unpleasantness this afternoon. She s
locked herself into her room, and if he tries any brutality she s going to turn the light out and on
again. (Melville, p.144). Here, the reader recognizes the love Gatsby has for daisy. He is willing
to wait all night in order to be sure of her protection. Gatsby has called off all of his parties and
fired all of his servants just to spend time with daisy. In doing this, Gatsby shows great qualities that
one should look for in another person: love, loyalty, trust, and a kind heart. Unfortunately, these
attributes led to Gatsby s death,

We can obtain realistic views of a scene by creating perspective projections of objects and by using
natural lighting effects to the visible areas. An illumination model which is also called a lighting
model or shading model is used to measure the intensity of light on the surface of an object. There

A very rough surface produces primarily diffuse reflections, so that the surface looks equally
dazzling from all viewing directions. Figure 11.4. depicts diffuse light scattering from a surface.
The color of an object is the color of the diffuse reflection of the light incident on it. A red object
illuminated by a light source, for example, reflects the red component of the white light and
completely absorbs all the other components of light. If the red object is viewed under a blue light,
it looks black because the entire incident light is absorbed. Along with diffuse reflection, light
sources can also create highlights, or bright spots, called specular reflection. The highlighting effect
is more pronounced on shiny surfaces than on dull surfaces. Specular reflection is shown in figure

Importance Of Domestic Commitment

Title
Sometimes, war is inevitable, and nations are forced to fight due to various reasons. This requires
countries to have a strong military which can withstand the forces of other nations. This is
measured mostly in times whereby a nation needs to defend itself from external attacks. Military
personnel and equipment play a significant role in measuring the strength of a nation. Also, another
important parameter is the economy of a country which determines the ability of the government to
channel more funds or resources to the military. These funds are used to pay wages of the armed
forces and purchase sophisticated weapons among others. However, domestic commitment is very
crucial during the times of war. This refers to the general willingness of state s elite population to
settle the costs of war (Lecture Note 5). If the citizens of a country are behind their military and
are ready to finance its operations during the times of war, then the military feel motivated to
defend their country. Also, it ensures that there are enough resources to be used in war. The costs
of war include direct costs, damages, duration, and the necessity of preparation for war. Direct costs
consist of conscription, debt, and taxation. This means that there is a relationship between domestic
commitment and conscription. Therefore, this paper will seek to discuss the significance of
domestic commitment in explaining the

Ride-Sharing Controversy
In recent months, there has been controversy surrounding the fairly new and popular concept of
ride sharing companies . Primarily, ride sharing companies are online based networks that
connect passengers with drivers that use their personal vehicles through a mobile platform. Some
of the most popular ride sharing companies include the well known Uber, Lyft, and Wingz s. The
packleader of them all, Uber, has recently been challenged by the government, taxi companies,
and their own drivers over legal matters. They have been accused of bending around labor laws
and disregarding regulations around transportation for hire industry in many of the large US cities
where they are present. In mid 2015, Uber has been involved in at least 173 different... Show more

Ridesharing companies claims that with their programs such as Uberpool and Lyft Line, it can
actually be beneficial for the environment. As the name implies, Uberpool is a carpooling method
based on splitting fares with people going to the same place as you. It s environmentally efficient
by having less cars on the road because it reduces single rider fares, resulting in less harmfull
emissions (Uber). According to Amanda Eaken, a director of transportation and climate at the
National Resource Defense Council, 40 percent of emissions in California is from transportation.
Additionally, along with the main ideas from A Struggle to Govern the Commons, more emissions
raise the atmospheric concentrations of CO2, a known greenhouse gas that contributes to climate
change. So with this, UberPool and Lyft Line may actually make an effect on helping the
environment. However there are limitations to this, it is not currently based by any research, just a
theoretical hypothesis. Fortunately, some scientific research is on the way. Eaken, along with
Professor Susan Shaheen from UC Berkeley s Transportation Sustainability Research Center, is
creating a scientific study on the true environmental effects of ridesharing companies. They will

No Exit Existentialism
The drama, No Exit by Jean Paul Sartre, is about three characters, who made ruthless decisions
during their time on earth and are now left in hell to torture one another. The anecdote s setting
takes place in hell, where the three characters reveal their horrendous crimes which led to their
eternal suffering at the hands of one another. The drama portrays existentialism, which is the idea
that the existence of an individual as being free and responsible in determining their own choices
whose consequences they must face.
A particular scene from the drama, which defines existentialism effectively is, when Estelle was
seeking a mirror. Upon not finding one, Inez volunteered to be her personal mirror. Repeatedly,
Inez kept on flirting with Estelle, who in return wanted Garcin s affection. Meanwhile, Estelle
explained that she had six mirrors in her bedroom that she constantly needed to look at to remind
herself of her existence. Finally, Estelle allowed Inez to be her mirror. Inez teased Estelle, who

Geography Of China Essay
Geographical Location: China has great physical diversity. The east and south of the country
consists of fertile lowlands and foothills, and is the location of most of China s agricultural output
and human population. The west and north of the country is dominated by sunken basins (such as
the Gobi and the Taklamakan), rolling plateaus, and towering massifs. It contains part of the highest
tableland on earth, the Tibetan Plateau, and has much lower agricultural potential and population.
Traditionally, the Chinese population centered on the Chinese central plain and oriented itself
toward its own enormous inland market, developing as an imperial power whose center lay in the
middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River on the northern plains. More recently, the 18,000 km
(11,000 mi) coastline has been used extensively for export oriented trade, causing the coastal
provinces to become the leading economic center.
Climate: China Owing to tremendous differences in latitude, longitude, and altitude, the climate of
China is extremely diverse, ranging from tropical in the far south to subarctic in the far north and
alpine in the higher elevations of the Tibetan Plateau. Monsoon winds, caused by differences in the
heat absorbing capacity of the continent and the ocean, dominate the climate. During the summer,
the East Asian Monsoon carries warm and moist air from the south and delivers the vast majority of
the annual precipitation in much of the country. Conversely, the Siberian

Comparison Of The Ebola Virus
Essay 1;2014 Comparison of the Ebola outbreak and the CDC study module for Gastroenteritis at a
University in Texas
1) Ebola Virus Belongs to the family Filoviridae. It has a single stranded sRNA genome, so it
uses a RNA polymerase to create the +sRNA template, which acts as mRNA inside the host cell.
The envelope is made up of peptidoglycan; the structure is made up of 7 structural proteins and 1
non structural protein. This means it is an enveloped and susceptible to the outside environment.
The Ebola virus replicates in Monocytes, Macrophages and Dendritic Cells. When the Ebola
virus is ready to leave the host cell it buds out and takes part of the cell membrane with it. Ebola
has an incubation period of 8 10 days. (CDC) Norovirus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These symptoms are also similar to the symptoms caused by the common cold or the flu. Most
people are not going to be running to the emergency room if they have a slight fever, headache,
or nausea. This can make it difficult to contain these viruses once an initial infection happens in
the host. An infected person may travel to another area unaware that they are carrying one of
these diseases. Both of these viruses do not have a vaccine or real treatment. The best ways to
treat these are to let them pass and allow the immune system to fight the virus off. Norovirus is
not as serious as the Ebola and most of the persons infected can fight it off in a few days. Getting
rest and keeping the body healthy. The Ebola is more serious, the fatality rate according to
WHO is 50%. The best way to handle this is to isolate the person and give them IVs and hope
their immune system is strong enough to fight off the virus. If they can fight off the virus they
will recover, but if not then the virus kills the host. Since Ebola has no cure this plays to the
advantage of controlling the virus. When someone has contracted the virus action is taken very
quickly to isolate and quarantine. The source of the virus is put as top priority to stop the spread.
Because it is so serious controlling it when it arises is the number one objective. The Norovirus is
foodborne virus. So tracking the source and removing it in

Two Variable Inequalities Kristine Heckman MAT 222 Intermediate Algebra Instructor Leah
Murray November 4, 2013 TWO VARIABLE INEQUALITIES For this assignment, I am going
to work with two variable inequalities and demonstrate the practical application of these
inequalities. I am going to use a graph that shows the number of TV s on the left side and the
number of refrigerators on the bottom. Of course this would mean that my x axis is the bottom,
and my y axis on the left. The line shows the combination of TV s and refrigerators that the truck
can hold. The problem I am going to work on is #68 on page 539 . The 18 wheeler truck can hold

331 ≤ 330Although it is very close, this combination of TV s and refrigerators will not fit in
the truck. Therefore, the statement is false. My second question asks if the truck will hold 51
refrigerators and 176 TV s. Will the coordinates (51,176) fall into the shaded region of our
graph? I will work this test point just as the last. 329 ≤ 330This will be a tight fit, but all of
the cargo will be able to make it onto the truck. Now I have to figure out a minimum or
maximum allowance of cargo to be found. The Burbank Buy More is going to make an order
which will include, at most, 60 refrigerators. What is the maximum number of TV s that could
also be delivered on the same truck? To find the answer, I will plug 60 into the x place of my
inequality and solve for y. Is my inequality replace x with 60 multiply, then subtract 180 from
both sides This is the maximum amount of TV s that can be shipped with the refrigerators. For
the second scenario, the Burbank Buy More decides to have a television sale so they change
their order to include at least 200 TV s. I need to figure out the maximum number of refrigerators
that can be shipped in the same truck. I start with the same inequality. Replace y with 200 and
solve for x Subtract 200 from each side Now I divide both sides by 3 This means that no more than

The Pros And Cons Of FOREX Trading
New in the FOREX trade? Do not worry, it s easy to start Forex trading and you always try your

The Moral Dilemma Of Using The Ring Of Gyge
If I had the ring of Gyges, I would be able to pay off all my family, friends and myself debts from

That to say, I settled everyone s and my own debt without facing a moral dilemma in ourselves.
However, I have committed an unjust act in stealing the money from an unknown source.
Obviously, there are two different views on my action of using the ring of Gyges. The reason I

The Golden Gate Bridge
Humans place a price tag on everything. The one thing, however, American society claims not to
assign a price to is that of a human life. Yet, when it comes down to it, we do price lives without
realizing it. By examining many of the arguments for and against the building of the safety barrier
on the Golden Gate Bridge, we have contemplated the idea of human life being worth a certain
amount of money or aesthetic. From the cost of the barrier to how media impacts our opinions on
the suicideand the prevention of suicide we have reached a unanimous decision. Through these
arguments, undeniable evidence clearly shows how the lives saved in the building of a suicide

As the price, and the time it has taken to even begin this project, gradually rises, the want for this
barrier seems to decrease rapidly, and people are beginning to think maybe this barrier isn t
worth it at all. This project s cost keeps rising, and could escalate to as much as $198 million, but
is this price too much (Source C)? What is stopping us from paying this much money to save
human lives? One concern is if the price of the barrier is more than that of the human lives lost
on this bridge, but when an estimated 1,600 [recovered] deaths have occurred on this bridge,
plus more unrecovered, how can we say that this price is not worth it (Source D). We, as an
American society, believe that it is wrong to assign a price value to a human life, yet when we
are discussing the saving of these lives, $198 million tops is too much. This not only goes
against our general morals, but it just seems wrong. If one person was to total all of the costs
they have spent to keep living their normal lifestyle their whole life, and then we multiplied that
price by the 1,600 people lost, would we still say that $198 million is too much? The majority of

Before 1448, European had to use the Silk Road to trade with Asia. In 1453, Muslim took over

European nations, like what they did to America, their goals and the way they achieved their
initiatives in Asiaare different from one another. Portuguese was the first group that explored the

Understanding the Patient Intake Process The intake process of patients is different from practice
to practice, but the main purpose of the process is retrieve new and established patients information
during check in at a providers office, a hospital, or clinic. By having an efficient intake process a
efficient patient flow can be maintained. Healthcare just like any other type of service industry is
reliant on possessing satisfied clientele. Scheduling practices help to manage the patient flow by
establishing certain guidelines regarding how late a patient can arrive, and still be seen without
disrupting the patient flow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a patient has a co pay is the co pay required at the time of service or can they be billed for it at a
later date. For patients without medical insurance making them aware of their financial obligations
helps to reduce the time that is spent explaining the financial aspects. Let the patient know that the
provider is willing to make payment arrangements, or that they offer a discount for payment in
full at the time of service, or maybe there is a sliding fee scale that is offered based on the patients
income. Offering financial assistance is just not helpful to those without insurance, but also to
those that do have insurance. Patients can sometimes have high out of pocket expenses and
deductibles that they are required to pay for certain services. Financial counseling informs the
patient of their financial responsibility and how the practice is willing to help so that they can
receive the care that they need. Having a good patient flow is key to establishing a respected
practice with patients who are happy, and healthy. Patient flow not only effects the amount of time
a patient waits to see a doctor, but also effects the time and care that a doctor has to spend with
their patients. There are a variety of techniques that a practices, clinics, and hospitals can implement
to ensure a that the intake process is effective and maintains a good patient flow.

First, I will be talking about the Akkadians. For 1,200 years, Sumer was a land of independent city

mesopotamia under rule of the first leader sargon. Sargon was both a strong king and skilled

Next he had to teach them to fight in tight formations. This formation was called the turtle. There

Cod The Fish That Changed The World Chapter Summary
COD
Before reading the book Cod, the fish that changed the world , one might think by just looking at
the tittle, how could it be possible for a single fish to have actually affected everything that has
happened in our world? . However, it actually happened and we, as humans, have to recognize the
importance of this particular type of fish, as the one who let us survive throughout our most difficult
times on Earth. This fish didn t just affect us culturally, but also economically. Codhad an important
role in the economy, fishermen used it as a form of commercialization given the fact that most
people actually enjoyed making dishes with this fish, not only because of their exquisite flavor, but
also due to its many nutrients. Mark Kolinsky explained this fact in detail when he mentioned Cod

slaves for cod. This is why having control of this fish was very important for the nations; It
basically showed who was in charge and demonstrated power as well. Although many people
would argue, Cods were also important when it came to helping people survive during difficult

supposed to enhance the relationships between different cultures, making the whole world one

I will analyze Iranian society, with reference to postcolonial theories employing different
approaches. First, I will explain the general idea behind postcolonial theory, specifically orientalism
, as it is one major approach in postcolonial studies. Then I will look at some historical aspects of
Iranian identity development, discussing various events that have affected the psyche of Iranians
as a community. I will focus on Tehran s metropolitan area as it is the major city in Iran. As an
outsider to Iranian culture inside Iran I am aware that my approach will contain inherent bias,
however, trying to limit this will be my goal throughout the essay. Also, limited space may not

The main interest in postcolonial theory is what happens to people during and after colonialism.
Splitting in straight lines self from other by purifying the self, is one discussion in postcolonial

Blatt And Scott Editorial Analysis
It is essential for child of any age to get a form of education. Private or public, school is a
necessity for children to expand their knowledge and learn from their mistakes. But, how will a vast
eighty seven percent of the US s children learn if there is not money to invest in their public
schools? Mothers Jessica Blatt and Lizzie Scott in their editorial argue that Public schools are not
receiving the affection they need. First, Blatt and Scott incorporate emotional diction into their
editorial to appeal to the audience s empathetic emotions. Second, Blatt and Scott integrate specific
details into their editorial to emphasize the change that needs to happen in the public schooling
system. Third, Blatt and Scott manipulate the syntax of their editorial to mirror the how the Public
SchoolWatchdogs need supporters now. These establish a passionate devoted tone. Blatt s and Scott

Throughout their editorial, Blatt and Scott utilize short simple sentences. Those sentences imitate
the urgency of gaining supporters. Within the US, public schools lack funding and teachers which
causes only the students to suffer. This need to change and it is time for more parents to stand with

Natural Selection
Part B.
Over the millions of years organisms have been present on earth, there has been many forms of
evidence to suggest animals are evolving through natural selection. However, the question still
remains as to whether homo sapiens are still evolving through natural selection. Through the nature
of science being subject to change and many new discoveries being made each day, it is difficult to
make clear confined theories and conclusions, which will not be impacted on in the future.
Slide 14:
From Lamarck and Darwin s first key discovery into the theory of evolution and natural selection,
the statement of evolution by natural selection is no longer applicable to homo sapiens in Australia
would be incorrect as in the analysis of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slide 22:
The main idea which discredits and contradicts evolution involves the idea that evolution proceeds
by random chance. However in Australia and among homo sapiens the only evidence to support the
idea that evolution is occurring are as a result of an organism evolving in order to adapt to the
changing environmental conditions of Australia.
Slide 23:
In conclusion, there are many different forms of evidence to support the idea of evolution by
natural selection among homo sapiens in Australia. With reference to the scientific theories and
information present today, it becomes obvious that homo sapiens in Australia are still evolving and
will continue to over time in order to cope with and adapt to environmental changes.
In the words of Sir Charles Darwin, It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most
intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.

Administrators should remove default passwords and disable unnecessary default accounts and non
essential functionality before the devices are installed on the network. An inventory of system
components that are a part of the cycle for PCI DSS must be maintained.
Requirement number three is to protect stored cardholder data using encryption, truncation,
masking and hashing as part of the cardholder data protection. If a hacker manages to bypass the
security protection and get access to the encrypted data, the information is unreadable and useless
without the correct cryptographic key. Only the minimal amount of cardholder data should be
stored whenever possible. There should also be policies for data retention and disposal
procedures of cardholder data storage. Only store the minimal data needed, do not store the entire
track of contents of magnetic strips, card verification code, or PIN number. PAN numbers must be
rendered unreadable anywhere they are stored. Cryptographic keys should be stored in as few
locations as possible and under secure encrypted devices.
The fourth requirement states that the entities must encrypt transmission of cardholder data when
done across open or public networks. It is required that entities use strong cryptography and security
protocols to maintain security of cardholder data during transmission. You should never send PAN
information by email, instant messaging, chat, or other messaging technology.

International Adoption Crisis Should Not Be A Viable Adoption
International Adoption Crisis
The image of an American family has changed dramatically over the last fifty years. American
families are no longer modeled after the Cleavers. International adoption has contributed to this
changing family view, bringing in children who are not biologically related to their parents and
often of a different race. This new American image has helped eliminate race related issues. So,
what is the controversy with international adoption? Children are the future of a country; children
are human resources. If a country is losing their children to international adoption; the county is
losing the gifts and talents that are irreplaceable in those children. Intercountry adoption should not
be a viable adoption source because this process does not adequately benefit those involved,
international adoption exploits poor children and hurts their countries of origin. International
adoption takes children out of their countries, and this can lead to the risk of alienating children.
Parents that adopt foreign children may be ill equipped or uneducated in their adopted child s
culture and this can steer the loss of the child s cultural identity. Culturally, we pass on our values
and beliefs through our family structure; our heritage is part of our identity. People who are raised
in another country could miss out on learning about their ethnic heritage. Medical writer Meg
Brannagan claims internationally adopted children question where their place is in a

Long Term Effects of Childhood Separation Anxiety
Long Term Effects of Childhood Separation Anxiety
Abstract
This report delves into the connection between childhood separation anxiety disorder and the long
term implications that it may have. To understand the connections I preformed secondary research
through Academic Search Complete . I found that childhood separation anxiety disorder is
connected with serious mental disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia, social phobias, depression, and
behavior disorders. Many studies have shown that childhood separation anxiety disorder is linked
to eating disorders and depression. Research shows that cortisol, the hormone our body releases to
deal with stress, can negatively affect our overall health. Childhood separation anxiety disorder can

The study stated that there was a stronger correlation between childhood separation anxiety disorder
and anorexia than there was between childhood separation anxiety disorder and bulimia.
Cortisol has been shown to have the greatest effect on the health of a person. Cortisol is a
hormone released in stressful situations. Cortisol levels in young children have been shown to
increase when the child is left in the care of someone they are unfamiliar with and when they
attempt to interact or play with large groups of other children. (Turvett 2008) Lack of control in a
situation is associated with a lack of recovery of cortisol, which can lead to a range of negative
health effects. (Ursin 2004)
Discussion
The main purpose of my research was to find the association between childhood separation
anxiety disorder and mental disorders in adolescents and adults. Based on the results, high stress
levels and childhood separation anxiety disorder can be used to predict mental and psychiatric
disorders later in a child s life. When a child experiences the symptoms of separation anxiety
disorder their body releases hormones and if these hormones are heightened or too frequent the
child has a higher risk of eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and behavior disorders throughout
the adolescence and adulthood stages of their life.

White And Brown Dwarfs Essay
Astronomy Project
Questioning: What is a neutron star and how have scientists been able to research them?
What are the differences between white and brown dwarfs and why do we study them?
Are there multiple ways for a star to form or is there only one?
When the core of a massive star experiences a huge gravitational collapse, the end of its life only
starts another s. During this process, protons and electrons are packed together so tightly, that they
leave behind a neutron star. These stars and many others form in a variety of ways. In order for
the neutron star to form, neutron degeneracy must halt the collapse. Although this is true for
many stellar masses, those less than about 1.44 solar masses form white dwarfs when the
collapse is ceased by electron degeneracy. Despite the name, brown dwarfs are not very similar to
white dwarfs. Each form very differently, for a brown dwarf is considered a failed star to many
scientists. Brown dwarfs are both smaller than stars and larger than planets as large as those like
Jupiter. Therefore, the insufficient mass in the star is not able to ... Show more content on

Their name was chosen simply because, at the time, astronomers did not know what color these
objects would have. Although they are this large and have an even larger mass, their size is not
considered vast enough to become a star. Because of their insufficient mass, brown dwarfs have
an inability to produce the temperatures necessary to trigger the thermonuclear reactions that
power other stars. The first brown dwarf was not discovered until 1995, and are, according to
astronomy professor Ian S. McLean, formed along with stars by the contraction of gases and dust
in the interstellar medium. Two types of brown dwarfs would include the classifications of T
Dwarfs and Y Dwarfs. Scientists are not sure what color Y Dwarfs are, but know that T Dwarfs
would appear reddish or magenta to the human

The Story Of Pontius Pilate By Paul Maier
There are two sides to every story, and sometimes we forget to look at the other side. Before I
picked up Pontius Pilate by Paul L. Maier, I can honestly say I didn t care so much for Pilate. All
I remember based on what I was taught was that Pilate didn t want Christ s blood on his hands,
so he took the easy way out. As sad as it was, that was my only extensive knowledge about who
Pilot was, and how he untimely got to that decision to wash his hands clean of the situation. Paul
Maier did a fantastic job with helping me understand what living life back in the New Testament
would look like. Though the thought of marrying a 15 year old daughter to a 30 year old man in
today s society seems crazy, Procula was actually considered to be almost... Show more content on

What I realized is that Pilot is human, and is lost. Without the Holy Spirit or any belief in God
whatsoever, Pilot is choosing what is right and wrong strictly on the laws that he is given. Before I
thought that Pilot was just a Roman Ruler out to get Jesus scared of his power. Now I understand
that Pilot did what was right for Pilot. Pilot didn t really seem to have a choice but to Crucify
Jesus, even if he didn t want to. Pilot made an agreement that he would release one prisoner
chosen by the people at Passover and the people traded in Jesus for Barabbas. Everything that I
read about Pilot in this book proved him to be a man of his word, and someone who favored the
law and his people there was no way that he could go back on it. Do I think Pilot ever regretted
what he did? Yes. Do I think he would go back and change what he had done? I m not sure. If
Pilot set Jesus free, where would Christianity be today? History it self would have been changed
forever. While it seemed to be a minimal task for Pilot to do to keep his constituents happy, it
actually is one of the biggest decisions a human on earth has ever made. It might sound sacrilegious
to say this, but I m Glad that Pilot sentenced Jesus to die because in that the whole human race

The Commodity Chain Analysis On The Red Gold Spice
This commodity chain analysis focuses on the red gold spice: saffron. The spice is known to be
more expensive than gold, with high values at $2,000 per kilogram (Iran Daily). It high price has
landed saffron in the category of a luxury good . Although saffron is grown in many countries, the
most interesting saffron geographically is Iran. It s widely known that the value and cost of this
particular spice is connected to the strenuous labor of cultivation, but there are more explanatory
variables that contribute to the market price. Popular angles determining cost and value on
commodities, such as a labor and supply demand, are often discussed. This paper, however, will
explore the political angle of price determination. Due to a political agreement between major
countries to place Iran on an economic hold, Iran is forced to pursue alternative means of trade for
many goods; trades of which other saffron producing countries are not subjected to. The large
distinction on how Iran exports its red gold to a foreign consumer base affects the country s
economy and the market price of saffron. Where the cost and value grows during the commodity
chains lifespan will be unraveled through the production, marketing, and consumption. Cultivation
Technology has created many opportunities for agricultural purposes (actually google and copy

The Shinto Religion Essay
ORIGINS The religion we know as Shinto is native to Japan and was first practiced sometime
before the year 500 B.C.E. The name Shinto comes from a Chinese phrase meaning Way of the
Gods . It was first used to describe the native Japanese religion in the 8th Century C.E. It is
currently the official religion of Japan along with Buddhism (Ono 1 3). There is a less common
name for Shintothat comes directly from the Japanese language, which is Kami no michi which
also means Way of the Gods (Renard 18). While Shinto has existed for more than 2500 years,
there is no distinct founder, there is no body of religious law and there is no specific scripture as
there are in other religions (Ono 2). Despite all of these differences,... Show more content on

The most prominent of these was Amaterasu, the sun goddess. Amaterasu is the most important
and most revered Kami in Shinto, we can see an example of this when looking at the current
Japanese flag which shows a red circle representing the rising sun of Japan, also the symbol of
Amaterasu (DesRivieres 100 101). In Shinto there are four Affirmations ; things that are
important in life, things that should be honoured. The first is tradition and family, the second is
nature, the third is physical cleanliness and the last is the Kami. All of these things should be
accorded the highest honour (Robinson). For a religion with such a rich history, Shinto has a
surprisingly underdeveloped theology (Ono 2). There is no specific system of laws or beliefs;
it usually borrows the moral code of Confucianism. One of Shinto s few concrete beliefs is that
while all animals are special, humans in particular are sacred because humanity is the child of
the Kami. One place where Shinto is especially vague is in its depiction of the afterlife. We do
know that there is a land of the dead thanks to the story of Izanami and Izanagi, and we know that
it is unclean , but that is the only description of this land that we have. We don t know if there are
separate places for sinners and the virtuous. We do not know who, if anyone, rules this underworld,
it is meant to be a complete mystery that none

Analysis Of The Movie Pirates Of The Caribbean On...
B MOVIES: FROM RAGS TO RICHES Hollywood today spends more money on movies than
ever before, with an average budget of $140 million per movie. Pirates of the Caribbean: On
Stranger Tides ; the most expensive movie ever made; cost approximately $378.5 million and
that was five years ago. This isn t surprising since history is witness to a rising trend in money
spent on movies, however, even after adjusting for inflation, their impact on the industry isn t as
large as their budgets. Over the years, lower cost productions like B Movies have played a major
role in carrying the industry forward by keeping it stable, moving and profitable in times of
trouble. B Movies came to be the need of the hour after The Great Depression and World War II.
Money was tight everywhere and Hollywood could not continue making extravagant movies
therefore they turned to low budget commercial films. These movies not only have an
economical significance in Hollywood, they have made more than one contribution to the
industry. These low risk movies provided directors, writers and producers with a wide scope for
experimentation and led to the creation of many genres and sub genres. The origins of B Movies
are humble but over the years that they grew in Hollywood, they became more significant and
successful, yet their progress from Rags to Riches remains more a behind the scenes heroic act
than a superhero effort. B Movies originally came into being to serve the purpose of being the

The Power Of Fear In Al Gore s Assault On Reason
In the book, Assault on Reason(excerpt), Al Gore uses different techniques to show one central
theme, which is how fear affects people s ability to reason and this neuroscientific phenomenon is
used by politicians to their own advantages. To Gore, making people aware of what influence fear
can have on reason is an essential step towards pointing out the problems in the political system.
Gore makes the connection between the relationship of fear and reason and the political world by
mentioning the
American Revolution since the beginning of the book: Reason may sometimes dissipate fear, but
fear frequently shuts down reason. As Edmund Burke wrote in
England twenty years before the American Revolution, No passion so effectually robs the mind of
all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear. (Gore 23)
Gore shows the importance of this subject by talking about how leaders attitude towards fear can
affect national success. If the leaders use fear to control citizens, the nation can lose its ability to
make the right decision at important times. Gore directly points out the administration and press
are responsible for using fear to manipulate citizens. He introduces his central theme early in the
book to raise the interest of the readers: Clearly, the current administration has misused fear to
manipulate the political process, and I will return to this issue later in this chapter......A free press
is supposed to function as our democracy s immune system against such gross errors of fact and
understanding......When errors of fact and judgement are no longer caught and neutralized by the
nation s immune system, it is time to examine the problem and to work toward good health in our
political discourse (Gore 26).
After, Gore starts examining the root of the problem by explaining the neuroscience behind the
power of fear. Gore goes into depth about the effect trauma have on people, making the fear
response always feel present. Even telling traumatic stories or watching traumatic events on TV can
trigger the same response. Gore uses
9/11 TV viewers as an example, One analyst of this study said of respondents describing their
reactions to 9/11, Those who watched the most television reported the most stress. People who

  • 2. Ethnography Research Papers Our Ethnography Research is how student s religious views affect their political views from a standpoint of three different religions. Since we live in a college town, we decided the appropriate demographic should be a college student between the age of 18 and 21. I got to interview a close friend of mine, Danny. Danny is a sophomore at Oregon State University and he describes himself as a Seventh Day Adventist, which is a smaller branch of Christianity and as a Democrat. I got to ask him many questions that one would not usually get asked, which made the interview fairly difficult, but I got to meet an entirely new friend. The first question is, What do you feel shapes your view on pro choice / pro life? His response was pro life because of his religion. Danny believes that he is pro life because his parents raised him to accept every blessing as a gift from God. Along with that he reckons that a parent that aborts their child should receive a considerable punishment. If the parents do not want to keep the child they should give it up for adoption instead of aborting a gift from God. As a Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believes that the government should make it harder for people to purchase weapons. He used the recent shootings as an example of what happens when we do not have strong gun control. With stronger gun control, we can prevent future shootings. I disagree with Danny and agree with his parents, the second amendment says that people have the right to keep and bear arms. • 3. Effects Of Advertising On Obesity Introduction In this paper analysis it is my intent to address the topic of television advertisement s effects on the obesity of children. Does advertising to children raise their obesity rate? Or is there no correlation at all? This is an important topic that should be addressed because children are susceptible to many influences (the younger the children the more susceptible they are), one of the biggest influences being mass media. Or more specifically, advertising. If television advertising does have an effect on children obesity, the health of society s children is at risk. As stated in an article written by the American Psychological Association (APA), The Impact of Food Advertising On Childhood Obesity , half of the advertisements exposed to children are food orientated. And, the majority of those food ads are advertising unhealthy products, Food ads on television make up 50 percent of all the ad time on children s shows. These ads are almost completely dominated by unhealthy food products (34 percent for candy and snacks, 28 percent for cereal, 10 percent for fast food, 4 percent for dairy products, 1 percent for fruit juices, and 0 percent for fruits or vegetables). Children are rarely exposed to public service announcements or advertising for healthier foods, (APA). By conducting studies on children roughly under the age of 16 and analyzing their television watch time and weight (or more specifically their BMI scores), a possible causal relationship could be ... • 4. Staphylococcus aureus Essay example Staphylococcus aureus Life History and Characteristics: Staphylococcus aureus is a gram positive bacterium that is usually found in the nasal passages and on the skin of 15 to 40% of healthy humans, but can also survive in a wide variety of locations in the body. This bacterium is spread from person to person or to fomite by direct contact. Colonies of S. aureus appear in pairs, chains, or clusters. S. aureus is not an organism that is contained to one region of the world and is a universal health concern, specifically in the food handling industries. Diseases: The most common health concern associated with S. aureus is food poisoning caused by the release of enterotoxins, even in small doses, into food. Release of less than 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The release of two exotoxins from certain strains of S. aureus can lead to Staphylococcal scaled skin syndrome (SSSS), which is characterized by blistering skin. Invasion into the body can lead to more serious health problems including pneumonia (a frequent complication of influenza), mastitis, phlebitis (inflammation of the veins), meningitis, and urinary tract infections. If the bacterium is allowed to colonize even deeper tissues more serious conditions such as osteomyelitis and endocarditis may result. The most serious consequences of these deeper tissue infections occur when the bacterium invades the bloodstream leading to septic shock and possibly death. Virulence Factors: The most important virulence factor of S. aureus is the specific surface proteins that allow the organism to attach to host proteins. The surface proteins of this bacterium allow it to attach to host proteins such as laminin and fibronectin, which form the extracellular matrix of epithelial and endothelial cells. S. aureus also produces a number of membrane damaging toxins that allow the organism to further invade and harm the host, of which the alpha toxin is the most well studied and is the protein responsible for septic shock. The alpha toxin is a protein that binds to a specific receptor in platelets and monocytes in humans, forming pores that eventually destroy the cell. A second toxin that is significant in human infection is the gamma toxin (also called leukotoxin) which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Summer Break Of 2013 During the summer break of 2013 I was an eager soon to be a sophomore. Even with summer break, I faced a stressful combination of summer school, Crew soccer club practice, and homework. To cope with them, I unknowingly turned to unhealthy eating and sleep deprivation. As you can imagine my summer did not go the way I expected it to. I finished summer school in the middle of July when I woke up with a sudden, harsh, and excruciating pain in my lower abdomen. I couldn t bare to even get up from bed. I thought maybe I needed to go to the bathroom, which didn t solve the problem. I was sweating continuously. All I could do was cry in the fetal position. That following night I went into the operating room. After the surgery, I had to stay in the hospital for 4 days. It was the worst experience I ever had. I had no appetite, all I had was water. Even though my appendix was removed, I still felt the pain in my lower abdomen. I had to walk around the hospital floor in order to relieve some air from my stomach. It was very quiet and dark since barely any sunlight came through the windows. The cold air made me feel sick to my stomach. It was depressing to see young children on ventilating machines or babies placed in clear boxes because of their conditions. Each time I walked in the hallways passing each room, I was crying. Being stuck in this environment made me want to leave immediately. There was no happy place for me. I was able to get a lot of support from the nurses and doctor who always checked up on me. My uncle, who is a doctor of Chiropractic visited me daily to make adjustments on my spine. As each day passed, the pain was slowly fading away. Although I had help, I on my own, had to continue to walk until I finally felt better. Fortunately, after 3 days, I was able to walk around freely, gained my appetite back and was finally discharged from the hospital. Back at home, I had to stay inside the house and not do any physical activity which was difficult to cope with because I felt useless. My incisions were still healing at the time so I ... • 7. Increase In Minimum Wage The minimum wage is a metric which dictates the minimum cost that low wage labor has on a firm (Lopresti and Mumford 2016). Wages are a cost, but may conversely be understood as an incentive for employees. The minimum wage determines the quality of work which is supplied to employers. An increase in the minimum wageimproves wagegrowth for workers, increases the supply of workers, and creates a competitive environment which allocates jobs to the most qualified workers, thereby increasing efficiency and quality in the market. First, the minimum wage sets a common standard for how employers determine pay for low wage workers. Lopresti and Mumford (2016) state that an increase in the minimum wage less than 5% has a negative impact on wages for low income workers; a minimum wage increase greater than 20% showed significant improvement in the wage growth of the same group. Setting a low wage growth standard is harmful to the worker. However, a significant increase in the minimum wage would set a high wage growth standard. A high wage growth, for the employed worker, increases their income and financial stability.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The minimum wage, by the nature of its pay, attracts workers with minimal experience and training. The cost of increasing the minimum wage may not appear beneficial. Ippolito (2003) argues that an increase in the minimum wage widens the pool of workers who apply for jobs. The larger supply includes higher skilled workers who are willing to work hard to retain or obtain a job. Kaufman (2010) states that an increase in the supply of workers brings the labor market to a competitive equilibrium and incentivizes firms to retain or hire employees who provide high quality work since the marginal cost to pay inefficient employees has ... • 10. Vladimir Lenin As A Hero Heroes come in many shapes and sizes, throughout time many of them have risen and fallen. A hero is characterized as someone that is a leader to his people, they reflect societal views, and yet they have a major flaw that often causes their downfall. During the 20th century a revolutionary man rose from his years of exile to lead the Bolshevik party into power, his name, Vladimir Lenin. Lenin stands as a prime example of a leader that reflects Russias social values, and as a flaw for his outspoken nature suffers from a near death assassination. Vladimir Lenin, like Achilles, looked for ways that benefited him in order to gain power, he was an aggressive man that had a certain set of beliefs that led to become a Marxist. Lenin enrolled in the Kazan University, only to be expelled within his first term for participating in a student demonstration. During his time from his studies, Lenin immersed himself in revolutionary politics, taking a large interest in Karl Marxs writings, this later played a large influence during his time of power. Lenin in many cases is similar to Achilles, a fictional warrior from the Iliad. In book 22, Priam compares Achilles to Orion s dog, to Greeks this is a bad omen. Priam then turns to his son, who stands outside the gates of Troy, and tells him this, He is more powerful by far than you, and pitiless (143, bk 22, lines 47 48). The use of these supplements have given the user an edge, an edge to perform at maximum capability. Most major athletes all agree on the fact that the competitive determination to win is intense. Despite all, most athletes have high hopes of either winning a medal, a full ride college scholarship or the once in a lifetime opportunity to play for a professional team. In such nature, the use of performance enhancing drugshas become increasingly recurrent (Athletes Drug Use). Accomplishing such goals includes taking performance enhancing drugs. Any athlete who uses a performance enhancing drug to deliver more oxygen to their muscles will perform for longer periods of time throughout the physical activity. Another likely reason an athlete would use performance enhancing drugs is simply to stimulate the body (Athletes Drug Use). Athletes constantly need to keep their body stimulated to simply reduce fatigue, gain assertion, and maintain aggression (Athletes Drug Use). Which is really not much different from a person drinking coffee in the morning to perk up. Importantly, athletes would use performance enhancing drugs to mask injuries (Athletes Drug Use). For example, if a wide receiver breaks his finger or sprains his knee during a game, there are two options: one, the wide receiver can be taken out of the game or two, the athletic trainer can give the wide receiver an injection to take the pain away, allowing him to return to the remainder of the game. With the reasons for taking performance enhancing drugs in mind, this essay should mention the many categories of performance enhancing drugs available on the market today, including, growth hormones (HGH), pain killers, supplements, and steroids. In all aspects of sports, athletes all have one common goal, success. Athletes often rely on the use of these substances in hopes of gaining college scholarships, and playing for a professional team. • 14. Social Attitudes In The Great Gatsby I felt a haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in others young clerks in the dusk, wasting the most poignant moments of night and life (Fitzgerald, p.xx). This is the feeling one might feel in their lives no matter how much money they have. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby to portray the different social attitudes within the upper class. F. Scott Fitzgerald was born Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald on September 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was 29 years old when The Great Gatsby was published on April 10, 1925. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald sheds light on the different personalities between the aged rich families and the modern rich families. An example of the sophistication of Gatsby are the elaborate parties he throws for the people he invites, while on the other hand, Tom and Daisy have a simple dinner with only a few people over. The emptiness one might feel at any time in their life cannot be fulfilled with money but only with other friends surrounding one. Gatsby is characterized as a very elaborate man sophisticated in his ways. He is always seen throwing extravagant parties with only the best of the best belongings in his home. One week ends his Rolls Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains. ( Melville, p.39). Nick explains the bizarre lifestyle that Gatsby had with all his parties. Although, throughout Gatsby s life, the reader is able to see the emptiness he feels without Daisy. I,m just going to wait here and see if he tries to bother her about that unpleasantness this afternoon. She s locked herself into her room, and if he tries any brutality she s going to turn the light out and on again. (Melville, p.144). Here, the reader recognizes the love Gatsby has for daisy. He is willing to wait all night in order to be sure of her protection. Gatsby has called off all of his parties and fired all of his servants just to spend time with daisy. In doing this, Gatsby shows great qualities that one should look for in another person: love, loyalty, trust, and a kind heart. Unfortunately, these attributes led to Gatsby s death, ... Importance Of Domestic Commitment Seungmin Bang (A98407092) POLI 142 K Professor Magana September 6, 2017 Title Sometimes, war is inevitable, and nations are forced to fight due to various reasons. This requires countries to have a strong military which can withstand the forces of other nations. This is measured mostly in times whereby a nation needs to defend itself from external attacks. Military personnel and equipment play a significant role in measuring the strength of a nation. Also, another important parameter is the economy of a country which determines the ability of the government to channel more funds or resources to the military. These funds are used to pay wages of the armed forces and purchase sophisticated weapons among others. However, domestic commitment is very crucial during the times of war. This refers to the general willingness of state s elite population to settle the costs of war (Lecture Note 5). If the citizens of a country are behind their military and are ready to finance its operations during the times of war, then the military feel motivated to defend their country. Also, it ensures that there are enough resources to be used in war. The costs of war include direct costs, damages, duration, and the necessity of preparation for war. Direct costs consist of conscription, debt, and taxation. This means that there is a relationship between domestic commitment and conscription. Therefore, this paper will seek to discuss the significance of domestic commitment in explaining the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the name implies, Uberpool is a carpooling method based on splitting fares with people going to the same place as you. According to Amanda Eaken, a director of transportation and climate at the National Resource Defense Council, 40 percent of emissions in California is from transportation. The envelope is made up of peptidoglycan; the structure is made up of 7 structural proteins and 1 non structural protein. This means it is an enveloped and susceptible to the outside environment. Both of these viruses do not have a vaccine or real treatment. The best ways to treat these are to let them pass and allow the immune system to fight the virus off. Norovirus is not as serious as the Ebola and most of the persons infected can fight it off in a few days. Getting rest and keeping the body healthy. American families are no longer modeled after the Cleavers. International adoption has contributed to this changing family view, bringing in children who are not biologically related to their parents and often of a different race. This new American image has helped eliminate race related issues. So, what is the controversy with international adoption? Children are the future of a country; children are human resources. If a country is losing their children to international adoption; the county is losing the gifts and talents that are irreplaceable in those children. Intercountry adoption should not be a viable adoption source because this process does not adequately benefit those involved, international adoption exploits poor children and hurts their countries of origin. International adoption takes children out of their countries, and this can lead to the risk of alienating children. Parents that adopt foreign children may be ill equipped or uneducated in their adopted child s culture and this can steer the loss of the child s cultural identity. What are the differences between white and brown dwarfs and why do we study them? Are there multiple ways for a star to form or is there only one? When the core of a massive star experiences a huge gravitational collapse, the end of its life only starts another s. During this process, protons and electrons are packed together so tightly, that they leave behind a neutron star. These stars and many others form in a variety of ways. In order for the neutron star to form, neutron degeneracy must halt the collapse. Although this is true for many stellar masses, those less than about 1.44 solar masses form white dwarfs when the collapse is ceased by electron degeneracy. Despite the name, brown dwarfs are not very similar to white dwarfs. Each form very differently, for a brown dwarf is considered a failed star to many scientists. • 52. The Power Of Fear In Al Gore s Assault On Reason In the book, Assault on Reason(excerpt), Al Gore uses different techniques to show one central theme, which is how fear affects people s ability to reason and this neuroscientific phenomenon is used by politicians to their own advantages. To Gore, making people aware of what influence fear can have on reason is an essential step towards pointing out the problems in the political system. Gore makes the connection between the relationship of fear and reason and the political world by mentioning the American Revolution since the beginning of the book: Reason may sometimes dissipate fear, but fear frequently shuts down reason. As Edmund Burke wrote in England twenty years before the American Revolution, No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear. (Gore 23) Gore shows the importance of this subject by talking about how leaders attitude towards fear can affect national success. If the leaders use fear to control citizens, the nation can lose its ability to make the right decision at important times. Gore directly points out the administration and press are responsible for using fear to manipulate citizens. He introduces his central theme early in the book to raise the interest of the readers: Clearly, the current administration has misused fear to manipulate the political process, and I will return to this issue later in this chapter......A free press is supposed to function as our democracy s immune system against such gross errors of fact and understanding......When errors of fact and judgement are no longer caught and neutralized by the nation s immune system, it is time to examine the problem and to work toward good health in our political discourse (Gore 26). After, Gore starts examining the root of the problem by explaining the neuroscience behind the power of fear. Gore goes into depth about the effect trauma have on people, making the fear response always feel present. Even telling traumatic stories or watching traumatic events on TV can trigger the same response. Gore uses 9/11 TV viewers as an example, One analyst of this study said of respondents describing their reactions to 9/11, Those who watched the most television reported the most stress.
