Weinstein Feminist Theory
Men are considered to be the dominant gender in basically every industry. This heavily applies to the
Hollywood film industry, where most films are directed, produced and/or written by men. With this, it
s no doubt that these men have a sense of power over everything, since they are in charge.
Unfortunately, some men take this power a little too far. Over the years, various male celebrities have
been accused of sexual abuse and harassment towards their female co stars, assistants etc. The most
recent example of this is the various allegations against one of the biggest film producer in
Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein. Since the allegations have come out, a bunch of female celebrities
have lent their support towards the victims of Weinstein and some even shared their own experiences
with the disgraced producer. However, not many male celebrities have come out to condemn
Weinstein s actions. In fact, The Guardian, a British news agency released an article stating that they
asked over 20 male celebrities who worked closely with the producer, and none of them returned their
calls at the time (Wong and Levin,2017). To explain the event and why Weinstein and these male
celebrities acted the way they did in this situation, I decided to use the classical theory Conflict Theory
and the contemporary theory Feminist Theory. After looking at both theories, I have decided that
Conflict Theory is the best way to explain this situation due to the power status Weinstein and the men

Women s Role In African American History
Primary claim: African American has been an active agent in early American history since the first
African slave arrived in America in 1619, Africans has left many carbon footprints in America s
history to remember their suffering, their spirit in fighting, their culture; the Africans were major
players in all aspect of social system and economically.
Cultural Context: African American may have been force to servitude until their last breath but they
did not any shape forgotten their roots and identity for they continued their language, their religious
belief in secret. African American women contributed into the fight for the abolition and women s
suffrage movement, the organizer was former slave and an evangelical named Sojourner Truth.

Types of Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is among the most common procedures performed in older people and is one of the
oldest procedures known. It is done due to the lens becoming cloudy and leads to the vision being
affected. This happens when proteins in the lens clump together causing the cloudy area to become
larger, affecting vision more over time. The most common cause is age related, but it could also be
due to other reasons such as traumatic, diabetic, radiation, secondary and congenital.
The first type of cataract treatment done was known as couching. This technique could only be
performed on lenses that were completely opaque, rigid and heavy to the point where the zonules were
fragile. The eye would then be struck with a blunt object with enough force to cause the zonules to
break causing the lens to dislocate and lie in the vitreous cavity, restoring limited, completely
unfocussed vision. Centuries later, this technique was modified where a sharp instrument was inserted
into the eye to break the zonules.
In 1748, the first surgical cataract removal occurred in Paris. Topical anesthetic was instilled and an
incision was made that went halfway around the cornea and the entire opaque lens was removed. It
was important that the lens was ripened meaning completely hardened so that the lens would not break
into pieces when being removed. Thus this surgery was restricted to only the most advanced cataracts.
Fine sutures weren t available at that time so patients were immobilized with

Flaubert s Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
I am still attempting to completely grasp Flaubert s reasoning for making Emma Bovary so unrelatable
and unlikeable. With the unfortunate last portion of her life it might have been reasonable to guess it
would be enjoyable for the reader to observe such a horrendous demsie for the unlikable protagonist.
However I doubt this because she leaves behind Charles. He is a character the reader feels, at the very
least, sympathy for and at the very most can relate to from their own relationships. Because Emma
leaves him behind observing her demise is bittersweet for the reader as they can imagine Charles s
sadness. Watching such a terrible person get her just deserts also brings with it the sad experience for
the reader of seeing how terribly Emma s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Someone who had such a terrible childhood and a difficult existence was sure to have an interesting
outlook on life, and therefore an interesting literary perspective. To be brutally honest I feel like Cat
On a Hot Tin Roof has gotten off to a slow start, however it is a classic and I have high hopes for the
rest of the story. I feel as if the setup of the family gathering is not terribly interesting, right now, but
may make for interesting revelations and conflict in the future. The death of Skipper has not really
drawn me in, since I know very little about this character and his largest impact seems to be on Brick,
a character I do not care for. He sort of just mopes around, understandable after the loss of a friend,
but this does not seem to be new behavior. His actions also make him unlikable in contrast to Maggie,
who very clearly is the one putting effort into the relationship. One insight I gained from our class
discussion was that Brick may have been gay and in a relationship with Skipper. This would make
Brick s actions more understandable and ,in my eyes, would make him less of an unlikable mope and
more of a tortured soul. I think the nature of their friendship/relationship will come into the spotlight
later in the play as I was interested just hearing of the potential theory and it could serve to clear a lot

The Principles Of Goal Setting
1 How are the principles of goal setting applied in this case?
The goals setting on the Health Information Services (HIS), are reflected in all the departments at the

The absence of the familial figure pushes the young female heroine foreword in order to learn about
herself, but what other worlds have to offer. The Gothic and 21st century heroine are both placed in a
position in which their own socio political views are stopping their development into becoming a
heroine, and a young woman. The parents create a faulty knowledge of the world around them. Their
perspectives being passed onto these heroines create great consequences for them when it comes to
scenarios later on in their story. Both Gothic and Young Adult heroines experience their lives being
impacted by the socio political aspects that protect them from the outside worlds. The Gothic heroine
is presented with lessons that impact the way society perceives the young heroine, as powerless entity.
The young adult heroine is also placed in this position, in which she must come to terms of who she is,

Superdry Group Report
Superdry Group Report
Superdry is a clothing company inspired by a trip to Tokyo in 2003. They aim to create clothing that
incorporates 3 cultures: Japanese, American and British. They manage to do so by merging together
British tailoring with Americana design, with subtle hints of Japanese characters. As a result, Superdry
is a unique clothing brand with an exceptional amount of detail, leading to it being a very popular
brand for those 16 35. Another aspect that has made the brand so popular is the fact that many
celebrities have been pictured wearing the brand. The most famous of these is probably David
Beckham who was snapped wearing their Brad leather jacket, which then went on to sell 77,000 in
just 2 years. This report aims to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason could be that Superdry is a very distinctive brand, with its bright colours,
contemporary design and Japanese characters in all of their clothing. Due to the economic downturn
many mid range high street stores are closing down or suffering from a lack of sales, but not Superdry.
They are one of very few stores that are actually doing well through this period. Due to Superdrys
success and distinctive look, other companies have openly looked to copy them. Some comical
examples of these are Superfry and Silverdry. As a result, Superdry spends ÂŁ1million a year
preventing people from copying their clothing. In 2009, the Times ran a story about Superdry
employing two bodyguards to prevent unaccredited buyers from entering and taking pictures at a
German trade fair. Primark started selling an almost identical jacket to that of the one David Beckham
was snapped in. Superdry seeked for compensation, and Primark were ordered to stop producing the
jacket and give up any remaining stock. Dids McDonald, CEO of ACID (Anti Counterfeiting In

at home but for the children of age 5 8 parents interaction would be needed. While further looking
how this could be brought in to a promises the idea came to mind. Rather than having the tool in
making mask or globe on line children could be doing it at the museum. There are no complicated
tools or objects involved in the process and children would not be proud in taking an item home and
sharing with their friends or siblings. This would as well show to parents that the museum is not just
about looking at the material collected. Children at the age of 5 8 are particular excited in showing
their achievements. The National Maritime Museum holds pirate day every Wednesday and Friday
and there are six sessions between both days. This shows that there is an interest for schools to
organise trips and bring children were they can become pirates for the day. Young boys and girls are
very interested in pirates. As their imagination is full of excitement it can be further broadened by

Marketing Strategy Of Domino s Pizza
Domino s Pizza: A strategy to enter the Czech food service market
Introduction
Domino s Pizza is among America s favourite pizza chains and, although it ranked below well known
chains such as Papa John s and Pizza Ranch, the company still managed to have a slightly higher
loyalty score than its closest competitor Pizza Hut. Founded in 1960 by Tom Monaghan and his
brother James in the city of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Domino s experience a rapid growth and open its first
international restaurant in the early eighties and reached the number of more than 1000 stores
worldwide at the end of Nineties; the aim of the company, indeed, is the constant growth, as it is
declared in the mission statement: we want to be the number one . Almost half of Domino s Pizza
stores are located in the United States where consumers spend around $25 billion each year on pizza
delivery and take away (monthly visitors to the chain have been increasing for at least five years,
reaching 21 million in the spring of 2016) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company continued to invest in technology that enhances the convenience in ordering,
preparation, and delivery, all aspects of the modern foodservice experience that consumers in all world
markets increasingly prefer; their vision, in fact, is to be the best pizza delivery in the world . Pizza
sales in 2014 2015 were buoyed by strong growth in Italy, India, Argentina, Brazil, the UK and the
US. Domino s Pizza has unlocked this potential in India, a key growth market and Domino s largest
international market to date, but has struggled to find similar success in China and Brazil, where it
trails chief competitor Pizza Hut. Domino s specifically leads the world in HDTA (Home Delivery and
Takeaway) with 9.4% of the global market in 2015 and 20.9% of chained operators. This can be
attributed to the company s domestic performance in the US, where it reaps huge profits from

Movie Review
Secretariat
The movie Secretariat was released in 2010 and is based on a unbelievable true story. Penny Chenery
inherits the horses from the family farm in Virginia when her mother and father pass away. As the
farm struggles financially, Penny raises the colt that she won in the coin toss with Ogden Phipps, one
of the richest men in America. In all her efforts to save the farm, her colt Secretariat, won the Triple
Crown (Wallace, R). The unforgettable last scene of the most important one in the film. The focus is
on the final race of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes. If the horse were to lose this race, Penny
would lose the family farm. The camera focuses mainly on the horses in this scene. Its starts focused
on the riders in the starting gate. The hush falls over the crown, therefore emphasizing the dramatic
effect. The camera then moves to the track as the horses come out of the starting gate. A following
shot is used as the horses make their way around the track. Every now and again the camera focuses
on the actors in the grandstands to show their nervousness during the event. Multiple times a hand
held shot was used on both the horse and the rider. The film makers strapped a camera to the under
side of the horse as well as the rider s chest. These shots are nothing less than unique but since the
movement of the horse is so dramatic, it is difficult for the camera to get a good and clear shot.

The Magna Carte, The Declaration Of Independence, And But...
Throughout out the history of the world many documents have had profound influences upon
humanity. The Magna Carte, The Declaration of Independence, and even the Communist Manifesto by
Karl Marx are examples of some of the documents that have helped to shape humanity. The Bible has
had perhaps more impact on humanity than any other Document ever written. Many people read the
Bible, but know little of the history of the Bible itself. The history of the Bible is a fascinating story of
the creation of the Bible versions seen today. Many people are familiar with at least some of the
contents of the Bible, but the average person knows little of the people, processes, and events involved
in its creation and translations.
The Bible is a collection of texts sacred to Jews and Christians. Judaism and Christianity may both use
the word Bible, however the texts included in their respective collections differ. The Bible canons of
other religions may contain other books. These books may sometimes have different divisions or
combinations. Other religious groups may include additional materials in their respective Bible canon.
The Bible is not a singluar work. In fact, many Bibles exist each with differing contents.
The history of the Bible begins with the Ten Commandments given to Moses. Some Years later God
gave Moses the written and oral Torah.
The Torah consists of the Pentateuch and the other twenty books of the Tanakh. The Tanakh contains

List s Infant Industry Argument Analysis
List was very much influenced by his visit to America. In America, he observed and analyzed the US s
development. He was greatly influenced by Henry Clancy, Hamilton and John Quicny (Selwyn,2014).
It was actually written that Hamilton s (1791) Report of the secretary of the Treasury on the Subject of
Manufactures was the very first attempt to formulate the infant industry argument (Selwyn, p.g
31,2014). List was the first person to combat the issues of industrialisation for the late developers of
his time US and Germany. List put together the infant industry argument (shafeaeddin,2005). This
argument was put in place as a procedure that would lead and guide less developed countries that were
attempting to catch up with the countries that were already developed. (Selwyn,2014). List s infant
industry argument has been built on 5 principles. He believes that countries go through basic 5 stages

trying to focus on nationalism does not exclude that fact that they are class differences within

though the German Bourgeois s are more than ready to exploit and oppress the proletariats in their
country for profit and wealth. Marx basically puts it in the terms of, German want the British not

Funerals In Waiting For White Horses
Grant s white horses finally arrive for him and he becomes more aware and gathers insight about how
to learn and cope with tragedies in his life. Waiting for white horses is the theme of how people will
become able to receive intuition about the journey of their life. There is an idea expressed towards the
end of the book that describes Grant s dad s funeral. It is the idea of a funeral being sad that I refute
with. I disagree with the book s thoughts and believe that funerals should not be mournful, but in fact
they should celebrate and reflect someone s life and also celebrate the beginning of one.

makes it seem that funerals are sad and they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book bothers me by the way it describes the funeral by how they reflected on his life, but they
didn t celebrate his life and they weren t able to handle him going away to look at the good aspects of
his life. We should celebrate the deceased time on earth, but we should also look back on his or her
life: Should we celebrate a life at the time of death? Absolutely. But a Christian funeral also should
retell the Gospel story, should affirm that we died with Christ in our baptism and will be raised with
Christ (Funerals). There can be crying and sorrow at a funeral, but it should be for the right purpose.
People should be crying because of the great memories they have made with you and not just that the
person is gone. Instead of contemplating about how you will live without that person you should be
seeing it as an opportunity for that person. You should learn from your loved one s death and grow not
crumple up into a ball and cry. Recollect on the individual s past and learn from the advice you may
just now notice is helpful. Instead of becoming gloomy with you thoughts embrace the fact that they
are gone and know that they will always be by your side and you may not know it at the particular
moment. You should be there to celebrate the death of the one you love instead of creating a burden

ENGLISH 121 ESSAY 3

Thesis and Support: On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner
Lars Eighners essay On Dumpster Diving describes the lifestyle of living out of a dumpster. Lars
demonstrates that anyone can achieve a fulfilling life without the constraints of society and material
wealth. He finds nearly everything he needs and sometimes more just from the refuse of others.
Firstly, what is dumpster diving? Dumpster diving is the practice of sifting through commercial or
residential waste in order to obtain items one might find useful that have been discarded by their
owners. Dumpster diving is largely associated with the homeless or people with little or no source of

He also goes on in paragraph 39 to talk about drugs and medicine and how he often has to hoard the
essential ones. He mentions however that drugs should not be taken lightly without some grounding in
pharmacology, this further proved that he has been well educated in the past. In Paragraph 53, he
talked on how he often finds books, diaries and papers discarded by college students. He remarks that
he is horrified to discover the kinds of papers that merit and A, which means he must have had
experience with the grading system. However he adds that he is grateful for the number of good books
and magazines they toss out, this shows his appreciation for good literature and speaks to his educated
background.
Eighner showed his intelligence throughout the essay, from the words he used, to his in depth
knowledge on various foods and how to know if they are safe to eat or not. Eighner talked about how
he frequented neighborhoods associated with the wealthy (Paragraph 21) because the rich are more
wasteful and tend to throw out items with no real issues. His decision to scavenge in the more
prosperous neighborhoods struck me as one of an intelligent individual.
Discipline is another characteristic of Eighner that I would not have assumed any dumpster diver
would have. Paragraph 37 he talked about how he feels people who live off dumpsters should be
controlled. Since everything you

Ancient Greek Influence On Ancient Rome
There are many Greek myths that were altered or redirected to serve the state of Rome. For instance,
Roman culture borrowed elements of government, religion, and lifestyle. Etruscans were also an
important conduit of Greek influence on Early Rome. In addition, Roman myth is heavily patriarchal,
befitting a society where the male head of the household had the power of life and death over
everyone. The Romans also, culturally inferior to the Greeks adopted Greek literature and mythology
by just changing names and adapting the concepts to fit their ideas and values. In addition, many gods
are believed to have taken part in the founding of Rome. All of the gods were consulted and honored
to make sure that the actions of the state met with divine

Live Free Or Die By Saul Bellow
Live Free or Die. These words spoken by General John Stark in 1809 echoed across our country
during the time of America s early existence and still resonate with our citizens today in the early
twenty first century. Freedom is a right on which our country was founded and that many Americans
have fought to protect and preserve over the past two centuries. As such, to speak illy of freedom
would be blasphemous; however, that is exactly what Saul Bellow does throughout his literature. Saul
Bellow was a decorated American Canadian writer who published numerous books throughout the

Throughout all three of his novels, Bellow fostered a close relationship between his main character
and one of their family members through the implementation of various types of literary devices in
Dangling Man, he does so with Joseph s wife. This bond between both characters was demonstrated
when Joseph purposely with held information from his spouse Iva to spare her rather than [sparing
himself] (Dangling Man, 199). Bellow implemented this action to symbolize their relationship and the
love he felt towards her. In this scene, Joseph showed that he cared enough about his wife to try and
protect her from the truth and would sacrifice his own peace of mind rather than her s. As such,
Bellow forced the reader to recognize the that a Joseph and Iva had a very close relationship through
marriage. In the forefront of Seize the Day, Tommy is addressing his relationship with his father when
he was younger and stated that [he] could turn to him in a time of crisis or need (Seize the Day, 15).
Bellow placed this specific line in the beginning of the novel to symbolize the trust that Tommy and
his father once shared and to verify existence of their relationship. Bellow further bolsters the
existence of their relationship later in the novel when Tommy shares with the reader the fact that they
have the same name. This is a special bond held between a son and a father that is passed down from

Captain Toad Essay
The bite sized Captain Toad stages in Super Mario 3D World were a wonderful side dish, offering a
very different type of challenge from the rest of the game. Little did we know at the time that the
compact, puzzle like levels would eventually find new life in a full fledged game, Captain Toad:
Treasure Tracker. Now, Captain Toad and Toadette, his partner in plunder, have hit the road on a quest

The Epidemic Of The Plague
During the time of 1346 through 1353 a mysterious illness had swept through Asia and Europe. This
illness killed about 25 million people over the 13 years it was prominent. This deadly illness was then
identified as the plague. A pandemic that swept through Europe but originated in China. It was a
rodent disease where an infected flea, with the bacteria Yersinia Pestis, would bite the rodent making it

The last form of plague was the pneumonic plague which infected lungs and cause pneumonia. This
was the most deadly form of the plague and would kill the human in one to three days. All three forms
of the plague originated from fleas but the severity of the plague varied.
People were dying for the plague in such short times the families of the deceased did not know what to
do with the large quantities of bodies. They started digging mass graves. Unfortunately back when the
plague was happening, documentation of the mass grave sites was not on the top of the people s
priority list. Now we are looking at the mass graves and trying to analyze what went on during that
time of distress. Now archaeologists are looking at the DNA of skeletons in the mass graves. They are
testing protein strands from the skeletons to see if there is a positive match if the plague bacteria,
Yersinia Pestis.
The mass graves that archeologists are looking at are located in northern Europe, central Europe and
southern Europe. Archeologists analyzed the DNA of skeletons from the mass grave sites to skeletons
of the same place but a different time period. The findings revealed that the plague may have entered
in two waves. Dwight and Wood (2008) compared and skeletons from a Danish town and compared
the skeletons to ones that were buried in mass graves in England. The two analyzed

Incredible British and French Revolution
Introduction The middle of the sixteenth century through the eighteenth century was the beginning of
Europe s two incredible revolutions which are the British and French Revolutions. The British
Revolution is very different from the French Revolution. Many different events and issues led up to
the British and French Revolutions that make them different from one another. For example the
primary factor that led to the British Revolution was the power of religion. While, the French
Revolution was based upon feudalism as well as the inequality of the third estate. There are many
different aspects of the British and French Revolutions that make one stand out from the other and
together they are both marked as important events that occurred in European history. Background of
the British Revolution In order to depict the differences between the British Revolution and French
Revolution it is important to understand the background information and why the British Revolution
occurred. The British Revolution occurred in England from 1640 to1660. Author Michael Richard s
explains the origins of the British Revolution by showing that The policies followed by Charles I and
his advisors in the 1620 s particularly in the arena of foreign affairs produced some tension and
opposition. In other words, the people in England were unhappy with King Charles I and the policies
he was enforcing. Another circumstance that occurred in the British Revolution was the consent of

A Research Plan On Mass Transit And Efforts
This strategic plan is centered on mass transit and efforts to reduce emissions in order to then reduce
asthma across the population. The outline for the paper will be in the form of the eight steps from Our
Iceberg is Melting for the purpose of identifying and planning a successful execution of steps needed
to take for a positive outcome.
Set the Stage
Step 1: Create a Sense of Urgency According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
transportation related pollutants are one of the largest contributors to unhealthy air quality, (CDC, n.d.)
which can lead to the worsening of asthma symptoms, among other negative health impacts. In the
United States, emissions from cars and other motor vehicles account for more than 50 percent of air
pollution in urban areas and the design of communities and transportation systems impact how often
automobiles are used, how many automobile trips are taken, and how long those trips are (CDC, n.d.).
In order to reduce these emissions, it is critical to consider increasing the usage of mass transit as well
as other transportation alternatives and create a healthier atmosphere for everyone. In addition to the
positive health impacts, reducing transportation caused pollutants would improve air quality that
would have other positive environmental consequences. However, immediate action by the public,
transportation experts and policy advisers, health professionals and other key actors is necessary
immediately.
Step 2: Pull

Philips Versus Matsushita s Strategic Capability
Philips versus Matsushita
Thomas Edison State College
Abstract
Carefully read Case 4 1, Philips versus Matsushita, on pp. 331 347 of the Transnational Management
textbook. Consider the organizational development of each firm and its implications on that company
s strategic capability.
What do you think of the change each company has made to date the objectives, the competencies,
and incompetencies? What strategic impediments and disabilities did each bring to the organizational
dynamics? What recommendations would you make to each organizational leader?
Philips versus Matsushita Philips and Matsushita have over one century long history. Philips is based
in the Netherlands and Matsushita based in Japan. Both based in fairly small countries and it was not
long before they went global. Both of them can say that they had the ups and downs. They went
through World War II and survived it. During their century in business survived the economic down
turns. In general, Philips built its tenured success on a portfolio of responsive national organizations.
On the other hand, Matsushita based its global strategy on a centralized and efficient operation
through Japan. As they developed and reorganized their international strategies, each company was
forced to undertake its strategic posture and restructuring as its competition position fell. In the past
few decades technology changed rapidly and at the same time strategies for both companies at the
same time. To

Contamination of Drinking-Water by Arsenic in Bangladesh
Introduction: There are metal substances which have mixed up with the river water of Bangladesh.
The substance is known as Arsenic in Bangladesh. It was first found in the West Bengal ten years ago
(1995 96). Arsenic is both toxic and carcinogenic. It is in inorganic forms, dissolved in drinking water
which is the most significant forms of natural exposure. Organic forms of arsenic that may be present
in food are much less toxic to humans. Clinical manifestations of arsenic poisoning begin with various
forms of skin diseases, which lead to damage of internal organs, ultimately to cancer and death. Cause

Systems using LS may require secondary treatment to meet that goal. Activated Alumina (AA) is
effective in treating water with high total dissolved solids (TDS). However, selenium, fluoride,
chloride, and sulfate, if present at high levels, may compete for adsorption sites. AA is highly selective
towards As(V); and this strong attraction results in regeneration problems, possibly resulting in 5 to 10
percent loss of adsorptive capacity for each run. Application of point of use treatment devices would
need to consider regeneration and replacement. Ion Exchange (IE) can effectively remove arsenic.
However, sulfate, TDS, selenium, fluoride, and nitrate compete with arsenic and can affect run length.
Passage through a series of columns could improve removal and decrease regeneration frequency.
Suspended solids and precipitated iron can cause clogging of the IE bed. Systems containing high
levels of these constituents may require pretreatment. Reverse Osmosis (RO) provided removal
efficiencies of greater than 95 percent when operating pressure is at ideal psi. If RO is used by small
systems in the western U. S. , 60% water recovery will lead to an increased need for raw water. The
water recovery is the volume of water produced by the process divided by the influent stream (product
water/influent stream). Discharge of reject water or brine may also be a concern. If RO is used by

Evaluating Pricing And Ensure Adherence Of A Company
As defined by Investopedia, LLC (2016) an initial public offering is the first sale of stock of a
company to the public. When a company makes the decision to move forward with an initial public
offering there are many roles that are involved and rules and regulations that must be reviewed to
ensure risks are evaluated and limited. A decision to go public can have immense benefits in raising
cash and providing liquidity. Having the proper roles evaluate pricing and ensure adherence to rules
and regulations can make an initial public offering a positive step for companies.

The Investment Banker is a critical role in the Initial Public Offering as they manage the process
therefore choosing the Investment Banker can be the determination of performance levels.
The Role of an Originating House and a Syndicate An initial public offering of stock is an expensive
and complicated procedure. Firms considering this option turn to syndicates of investment bankers to
handle the initial sale of the firm s stock. In the case of a large initial public offering, an originating
investment house may decide to form a syndicate of investors to lessen the financial risk to
themselves. This syndicate, or group, of investors will share the reward and risks of the sale of stock
from the issuing firm. The originating house selects other investing banks or individual investors to
make up the syndicate. This syndicate will underwrite the sale of the stocks, guaranteeing the issuing
firm the sale of a mutually agreed upon number of stocks at an agreed upon price per share. The
syndicate now assumes the financial risk of selling the stocks to the public. The issuing firm has a
guarantee of raising the funds they need. The syndicate also assumes the responsibility for completing
and filing all necessary documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as providing
any information required by an individual state or international governmental agency.

The Influence Of Magic Johnson In Basketball

their life after. For many, parents or celebrities are this individual. Some children even choose athletes
such as NBA players. One of the most influential people in the basketball world during the time was
Magic Johnson. Earvin Magic Johnson was a 6 9 point guard in the National Basketball Association.
With his height and exceptional ball handling skills for his size, he took the NBA by storm by posting
unbelievable statistics and winning multiple championships with the Los Angeles Lakers. His
championships came by his will to never give up. Magic s attitude and desire to win played a role to

which is mostly for smaller players. Magic also worked hard and stayed determined whether it was at
basketball or school. Magic defied all expectations after being drafted as a first round pick and after
his announcement about HIV, he has been a positive public figure for them for years. However, his
affairs with other men during his basketball career, which was his presumed cause of HIV, put many
question marks on his overall character. Magic Johnson sets an example for people and children today.
Despite all of his hardships in life, he did not give up. Given how easy losing hope is, Magic s
character has stayed with him. Even after getting the announcement that his career is over, he still
powers though all the negatives in life and even came back to the NBA for a period. Magic Johnson

Religious Beliefs in Aeschylus Oresteia, Homer s Iliad, and Sophocles Electra
The final and definitive defeat of the Persian army at the battle of Plataea represented the end of an
age long threat to Athens. But the victory was also a miracle, as all the odds were against the
Athenians at the onset of the war. While Pericles took charge of Athens after the war and started the
advance of democracy, religion also thrived. The rebuilding of the Acropolis and the construction of
the Parthenon and its great statue of Athene under Pericles rule signified the height of religious belief
among Athenians. However, the shift in power from the aristocrats to the common men in the new

Something close to a Homeric view can be drawn from this, with the difference being that Gods and
Goddesses always take the form of a mortal when interacting with other mortals in Homer s epic
poems, but the form that they appeared in was not addressed in The Eumenides.
In the very same scene, after Orestes, Hermes, and Apollo have exited, the ghost of Clytaemestra is
seen trying to awaken the sleeping Furies so they can continue their pursuit of Orestes. The
appearance of ghosts is nothing new, as it has been done before in Homer s poems. What this shows,
however, is that Aeschylus, likely a representative of Athenians during his time, had the same view
that Homer did. In their eyes, not only do Gods and Goddesses walk among men, but even ghosts,
something that should be considered on the opposite side of the spectrum, also appear in our world, as
real as any men can be.
The second scene of The Eumenides begins with Orestes arrival at the Acropolis, as he takes a
suppliant posture at the feet of the statue of Athene (Aeschylus, 143). Athene is said to have entered in
full armor (Aeschylus, 148), answering Orestes call for justice, just as the Furies have caught up with
him. What follows is a full blown trial similar to those of the present days. At one point, Athene re
enters [the scene], guiding twelve citizens chosen as jurors and attended by a herald (Aeschylus, 154).

Wisdom is cement. Wisdom is used to make new pathways but is often referred to as intelligence.
However they are not the same, some who are intelligent cannot receive wisdom because they are
arrogant, but there are few that break this barrier and realize that they actually know nothing because
they are forever learning. Such as Socrates in the dialogue Apology by Plato, Plato analyzes Socrates
journey to disprove his wisdom by questioning the most respected and talented people in Athens.
Through ethos and paradox Plato reveals a respectful tone for his mentor Socrates. Socrates makes
himself more credible when he exposes his ethos to the audience. He states that he has the god of

Identifying The Devils In Rachel Carson s Silent Spring
Arnold Schweitzer once said man can hardly even recognize the devils in his own creation . This is the
point that Rachel Carson argues throughout her book Silent Spring. Carson believes that though the
scientific revolutions that occurred since the turn of the 19th century may seem to be solely beneficial,
they have disastrous repercussions. In particular, Carson claims that man s newly established ability to
have dominion over nature puts the world in a dangerous position. If humans let the power of
controlling nature get to their head and refuse to attempt to understand the possible consequences of
their actions, the Earth is destined to turn into a contaminated wasteland. She argues that if mankind
continues to believe that it is superior to all around it and thereby continues to rapidly and impetuously
alter nature to fit its own desires, then man is using science and technology to catalyze its own doom.
However, Carson does not view ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To her, nature and science are not mutually exclusive and can exist in tandem. In fact, she even says
that where man has been intelligent enough to observe and emulate nature he is capable of creating
progress that is beneficial for both nature and man.In this case, humans are looking to nature for the
solutions. Rather than seeing themselves as above nature and seeking to control it, they are observing
it and its patterns to obtains a solution. Therefore the problem for Carson lies in the human superiority
that has developed alongside the expansion of science. She criticizes the human desire for the control
of nature which she believes is a phrase born of arrogance and instead opt for, as Dr. Briejer says,
humbleness . Carson thinks that in order to truly thrive and proliferate, man should not wage a war
against nature, but instead look to it as an equal and address the intrinsic ties between mankind and

Once upon a time there was a young Vietnamese girl who was beautiful and loved by everyone,

Why Same Sex Couples Should be Allowed to Legally Marry
All men were created equal. It is for this reason that gays have the same rights when it comes to
housing, jobs, protection under the law, and so on, despite their difference in sexual preference. Well
then, if gays have the same rights as heterosexual men and women, why can they not be legally
married in the U.S? That is the question that half our country should be asking themselves, since 50%
of U.S citizens oppose gay marriage. However, extraordinarily, 75% of the people in the U.S are all
for gay rights (Bidstrup). But, when it comes to marriage, for one reason or another, the line is drawn.

As the case with various arguments, there are all whom will take the slippery slope argument approach
in their reasoning for the banning of gay marriage. A slippery slope argument is a point in which one
thing happening will lead to another thing happening, triggering a domino effect of negative
consequences from one single action. In this case, the argument at hand would be that along with the
legalization of gay marriage comes the allowing of bestial marriage, polygamy, and many other
wrongs (Bidstrup). This tactic of scaring people of accepting the beneficial consequences of one
rational decision is absurd. In countries where gay marriage is legal, there has been no talk of any such
changes or disgusting tendencies. In many Scandinavian countries where same sex marriages are
allowed, society has remained sound (Bidstrup). If anything, marriages between criminals and those
who lack morals would lead towards the anarchy that would occur with bestial marriages and
polygamy. Those who have homosexual preferences do not share any of the same moral defects as do
the criminals that can wed freely. Society needs to open their eyes to the normality of homosexuality
and the benefits of gay marriage will be exposed. There are those who believe that gay marriage
defeats the purpose of the bonding between two different gendered people in reproduction. The idea
that gay marriage should be disallowed because two same sex partners can t reproduce is

Eleanor Roosevelt is a Speaker Anna Eleanor Roosevelt once said, Do what you feel in your heart to

Eleanor Roosevelt has impacted the future of the United States of America through her speaking. We

Americanization of the Australian Media Essay
Americanization of the Australian Media
The Australian television and media have become americanised through the influence of American
media and television programs in Australia.
This research will only concentrate on the extent of Americanisation in Australia through the influence
on television and the film industry as the aspect of Americanisation covers a wide range from fashion
to language. To fully understand the topic of the hypothesis, proper exploration of the definitions of
identity and culture are of relevance. Identity and culture play an integral role in what an Australian

It is applied indiscriminately within the Australian media to label array of factors seen as threatening

Television has, without doubt, received more attention from Americanisation critics on media
globalization more than any of the other domains e.g. fashion, language. According to Tony Bennett
(1999, p.207) the early 1960s represented the peak in the Americanisation of popular culture measured

Australian television scheduled is taken up with imports, with US material dominating the commercial

Disadvantages Of Crude Oil
1. Introduction: Crude oil Crude oil is a mixture of molecules bonded together in chains called
hydrocarbons, hydrogen and carbons, and mostly consists of a family of hydrocarbons called alkanes
(CnH2n+2). Figure 1 1 displays a type of hydrocarbon. As a leading product on the global market we
think of crude oil as a valuable substance, but are there more efficient materials, less pollutant
substances and more reliable constituents that can support our future? Crude oil is formed from the
remains of deceased fauna and flora which were compressed under large segments at excessive
pressures and temperatures. Crude oil is known as a non renewable or finite resource and will
eventually deplete making it a limited resource that takes hundreds of years to develop, so finding a
replacement to help transition the reliance on crude oil is crucial. Crude oil is used in a range of
everyday items such as plastics, fuel, heating oil and other important products. If the price of crude oil
rises the prices of fuel, food, clothing, everything rises with it. This could result in a major global

right brained, meaning that one side of their brain is dominant (Pietrangelo, 2017, para. 7). The left
side of the brain is responsible for language, logical thinking, math, science, writing and controls the
right side of the body. While the right side of the brain is responsible for imagination, creativity, art,
visualizing feelings, body awareness and controls the left side of the body. This theory has led many to
believe that your personality, preferences, and learning styles are connected to the idea that you are
left brained or right brained. There are many quick assessments available today to test your brain s
hemispheric preference. The results of my hemispheric preference assessment revealed that I am
dominantly left brained. I scored 24/36 points for the left hemisphere, 9/36 points for the right
hemisphere and only 2/36 points for using both hemispheres together. Based on these results I am a
right handed, logical thinker, that is good in math and science. This is partly true, while I am right
handed and do perform well in science, I struggle with math. I really

Homeless Families Essay
Homeless families compose a fraction of the homeless population as they represent roughly a third of
the homeless population in the United States (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development,
2010), and approximately 1.5 million children 1 in 50 youngsters are homeless each year in the United
States (p. 389). These homeless families often struggle to find permanent residency as a collective
unit. There are several types of housing situations available for homeless families such as temporary
housing, transitional housing settings, and shelters, yet the housing situation for homeless families
often causes stress for families as stability and a secure home is always in question. The lack of stable,
consistent housing is the central, deïŹning characteristic of families experiencing homelessness,
distinguishing them and their experience(s) from those with stable housing who experience other
correlated conditions (e.g., poverty) (Kilmer, Cook, Crusto, Strater, and Haber, 2012, p. 394).
Homeless families often seek different types of housing usually by first reaching out to temporary
shelters in emergency situations like domestic violence that often lead to homelessness, which provide
services for children and families. There are many challenges families encounter in the process of
seeking permanent housing.
These homeless families face many adversities and issues when seeking permanent housing like
possible separation from their family members due to many

Life Of Pi Theme Essay Examples
Theme Essay Life of Pi shows that humans and animals should do anything necessary to survive
whatever challenges they face to live instead of just accepting death. Whatever ways that help one to
survive are necessary, even if they compromise personal values, are vicious, or are wicked. Pi, a
human; a hyena, and a blind man all fight to survive in a variety of ways that are examples of this
thesis. Pi quits his vegetarian diet and also chooses to live on a raft next to a bengal tiger on a lifeboat,
which are both unusual and unconventional choices for him. He satisfies his hunger by quitting being
a vegetarian and eating fish. Pi knows that A lifetime of peaceful vegetarianism [stands] between
[him] and the willful beheading of a fish (Martel 98). In other words, his body needs the fish because
the beheading had to be done (Martel 98) in order to survive. In addition, Pi decides to feed a 450
pound (Martel 61) bengal tiger named Richard Parker for his own self preservation. He acknowledges,
I had to tame him. It was at that moment that I realized this necessity...More likely the worst would
happen: the simple passage of time, in which his animal toughness would easily outlast my human
frailty (Martel 164). This means that Pi fears that the fierce animal strength and power of Richard
Parker would eventually kill and eat him for food. Furthermore, Pi confesses to wanting Richard
Parker to live primarily for Pi s own survival when he states, A part of me did not want

Indian River Lagoon
Growing up in one of the most biologically diverse estuaries in North America impacted my
perception on nature from my first thought until now as a young adult. If you are from the south most
people get a glimpse of how pretty Florida is but unless you fish, very few people get to check out the
Indian River Lagoon. This massive body of water stretches whopping 156 miles and surprisingly takes
up over 30% of Florida s east coast. Here the Atlantic collides with fresh water and creates an epic
battling ground for fisherman and a lovely home for more than 2000 animal species (SJWM). I
fortunately have had access to this wonderful estuary thanks to my grandparents. They moved into the
developing town of satellite beach early on and bought property ... Show more content on

Not only does the environment get wrecked but this algae has caused human death before (CRISPS).
Off the northern coast of Sabah in East malaysia, 7 people died among 202 affected by Paralytic
shellfish poisoning. This is due to red tide producing a class of neurotoxins called brevetoxins. These
toxins not only get into our food supply but they become aerosolized by the surf and winds. When
breathed in or ingested they are known to cause dizziness, numbness, vomiting, and even partial
paralysis. Since this is still a relatively knew problem in the medical community, long term effects are
still unknown. Among the neurotoxic effects, red tide can bring respiratory problems as I mentioned
earlier. Getting up early to surf before school was a normal thing for me even when red tide was in full
effect. I would come into school with bloodshot watery eyes, my skin and lungs burning only after an
hour in the surf. The effects really sneak up on you if you don t understand it is

Assignment August 12, 2014 The Poisonwood Bible 1. Barbara Kingsolver explores a quest in her

challenges, and reasons for the quest. In this instance the quester is Orlenna Price whom demonstrate
guilt consistently. Orlenna is going there to accompany her husband, who is seeking to convert others.
She feels guilty due to the death of her daughter and now that guilt remains as one of the challenges
she faces. This is mostly transparent when she says How do we aim to live with it? (Kingsolver 9).
Her guilt revolves around the destination to the Congo. Due to the Congo her one of her children
survives. Now she has to deal with that challenge which is her guilt. The elements of a quest are very
embedded in The Poisonwood Bible . 2. A gathering around a meal often represents an act of
communion. People come together to share thought, ideas, and conflicts. In The Poisonwood Bible , a
particular scene occurs when there is a dinner at the church. The feeling around the dinner table was a
sense of belonging and agreement, which matches up well with How to Read Literature Like a
Professor view of a meal. As the meal proceeds, Kingsolver notes He is Congolese all right, But he
has different kind of eyes that slant a little bit like a Siamese (Kingsolver 125). This

Using Radiant And Convection Heat For Comfort Essay
Introduction
The concept of using radiant and convection heat for comfort has been around since early man. People
chose south facing caves because the sun would warm up the rocks during the day and radiate the heat
into the cave at night. The flames from a fire also gave off radiant heat. Technology has developed to
control radiant and convection heat. Radiant heating and cooling (RHC) systems utilize the
surrounding surfaces as heating and/or cooling sources. Generally, RHC systems are systems that
radiant heat transfers cover more than 50% of heat exchange within a specified space. Compared to all
air systems, which depend on convection only, the RHC system provides heating and cooling by the
combination of radiation and convection in a building. There are three types of radiant floor heating
systems. The first type is a radiant air floor, where the air is the heat transferring medium. The second
type is electric radiant floor. The last type is hydronic radiant floor, which uses hot water.
Types of Radiant Floor Heating The type of installation can further subdivide all three types of radiant
floor heating, wet installation and dry installation. Installations where tubing is inserted into a concrete
slab floor are called wet installations. Installations where the radiant floor tubing is between two
layers of plywood or attaches the tubing under the finished or subfloor are called dry installations. Dry
floors have gained more popularity over wet floors because of recent

Analysis Of On The Road By Langston Hughes
Walker insists that there is representation to white people when the narrator of the story On the Road
by Langston Hughes speaks of the church and the snow. Walker does include some nice points, points
that one could easily see. Some of her points and observations though, I feel are a bit of a long shot. I
have the same feelings towards Walker s comparison of On the Road and the story of Samson. Walker
s first theory is that the snow is a symbol of the white oppressive world that is making sergeant so
miserable and that he is trying so hard to ignore. Right off the bat I have to disagree with Walker. I do
not believe that Sergeant is trying to ignore the snow. I think he honestly just doesn t notice it. He
notice s white oppression. He even acknowledges it when he is shot down by Reverend Mr. Dorset
and thinks They drew the color line anyhow, referring to the shelters and again when he says I know it
s a white folks church. The snow is different. He has too much going on to be concerned with the
snow. He is too hungry, sleepy, and cold to even notice the snow. It s like taking a day trip out in the
hot sun. It s easy to feel pain in one s feet and not realize the sun burning his or her skin. It is still
weather affecting someone, but because there are other issues, it goes unnoticed. The snow does play
an important role in the view of the church. The church is pale in the snow. The church is blurry and
distorted white because of the falling snow. This is the

  • 2. Weinstein Feminist Theory Men are considered to be the dominant gender in basically every industry. This heavily applies to the Hollywood film industry, where most films are directed, produced and/or written by men. With this, it s no doubt that these men have a sense of power over everything, since they are in charge. Unfortunately, some men take this power a little too far. Over the years, various male celebrities have been accused of sexual abuse and harassment towards their female co stars, assistants etc. The most recent example of this is the various allegations against one of the biggest film producer in Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein. Since the allegations have come out, a bunch of female celebrities have lent their support towards the victims of Weinstein and some even shared their own experiences with the disgraced producer. However, not many male celebrities have come out to condemn Weinstein s actions. In fact, The Guardian, a British news agency released an article stating that they asked over 20 male celebrities who worked closely with the producer, and none of them returned their calls at the time (Wong and Levin,2017). To explain the event and why Weinstein and these male celebrities acted the way they did in this situation, I decided to use the classical theory Conflict Theory and the contemporary theory Feminist Theory. After looking at both theories, I have decided that Conflict Theory is the best way to explain this situation due to the power status Weinstein and the men have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Types of Cataract Surgery Cataract surgery is among the most common procedures performed in older people and is one of the oldest procedures known. It is done due to the lens becoming cloudy and leads to the vision being affected. This happens when proteins in the lens clump together causing the cloudy area to become larger, affecting vision more over time. The most common cause is age related, but it could also be due to other reasons such as traumatic, diabetic, radiation, secondary and congenital. The first type of cataract treatment done was known as couching. This technique could only be performed on lenses that were completely opaque, rigid and heavy to the point where the zonules were fragile. The eye would then be struck with a blunt object with enough force to cause the zonules to break causing the lens to dislocate and lie in the vitreous cavity, restoring limited, completely unfocussed vision. Centuries later, this technique was modified where a sharp instrument was inserted into the eye to break the zonules. In 1748, the first surgical cataract removal occurred in Paris. Topical anesthetic was instilled and an incision was made that went halfway around the cornea and the entire opaque lens was removed. It was important that the lens was ripened meaning completely hardened so that the lens would not break into pieces when being removed. Thus this surgery was restricted to only the most advanced cataracts. Fine sutures weren t available at that time so patients were immobilized with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Flaubert s Cat On A Hot Tin Roof I am still attempting to completely grasp Flaubert s reasoning for making Emma Bovary so unrelatable and unlikeable. With the unfortunate last portion of her life it might have been reasonable to guess it would be enjoyable for the reader to observe such a horrendous demsie for the unlikable protagonist. However I doubt this because she leaves behind Charles. He is a character the reader feels, at the very least, sympathy for and at the very most can relate to from their own relationships. Because Emma leaves him behind observing her demise is bittersweet for the reader as they can imagine Charles s sadness. Watching such a terrible person get her just deserts also brings with it the sad experience for the reader of seeing how terribly Emma s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Someone who had such a terrible childhood and a difficult existence was sure to have an interesting outlook on life, and therefore an interesting literary perspective. To be brutally honest I feel like Cat On a Hot Tin Roof has gotten off to a slow start, however it is a classic and I have high hopes for the rest of the story. I feel as if the setup of the family gathering is not terribly interesting, right now, but may make for interesting revelations and conflict in the future. The death of Skipper has not really drawn me in, since I know very little about this character and his largest impact seems to be on Brick, a character I do not care for. He sort of just mopes around, understandable after the loss of a friend, but this does not seem to be new behavior. His actions also make him unlikable in contrast to Maggie, who very clearly is the one putting effort into the relationship. One insight I gained from our class discussion was that Brick may have been gay and in a relationship with Skipper. This would make Brick s actions more understandable and ,in my eyes, would make him less of an unlikable mope and more of a tortured soul. I think the nature of their friendship/relationship will come into the spotlight later in the play as I was interested just hearing of the potential theory and it could serve to clear a lot of ... Penny Chenery inherits the horses from the family farm in Virginia when her mother and father pass away. As the farm struggles financially, Penny raises the colt that she won in the coin toss with Ogden Phipps, one of the richest men in America. In all her efforts to save the farm, her colt Secretariat, won the Triple Crown (Wallace, R). The unforgettable last scene of the most important one in the film. The focus is on the final race of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes. If the horse were to lose this race, Penny would lose the family farm. The camera focuses mainly on the horses in this scene. Its starts focused on the riders in the starting gate. The hush falls over the crown, therefore emphasizing the dramatic effect. The camera then moves to the track as the horses come out of the starting gate. A following shot is used as the horses make their way around the track. Every now and again the camera focuses on the actors in the grandstands to show their nervousness during the event. Multiple times a hand held shot was used on both the horse and the rider. The film makers strapped a camera to the under side of the horse as well as the rider s chest. These shots are nothing less than unique but since the movement of the horse is so dramatic, it is difficult for the camera to get a good and clear shot. Several long shots ... People were dying for the plague in such short times the families of the deceased did not know what to do with the large quantities of bodies. They started digging mass graves. Unfortunately back when the plague was happening, documentation of the mass grave sites was not on the top of the people s priority list. Now we are looking at the mass graves and trying to analyze what went on during that time of distress. Now archaeologists are looking at the DNA of skeletons in the mass graves. They are testing protein strands from the skeletons to see if there is a positive match if the plague bacteria, Yersinia Pestis. The mass graves that archeologists are looking at are located in northern Europe, central Europe and southern Europe. Archeologists analyzed the DNA of skeletons from the mass grave sites to skeletons of the same place but a different time period. The findings revealed that the plague may have entered in two waves. Dwight and Wood (2008) compared and skeletons from a Danish town and compared the skeletons to ones that were buried in mass graves in England. The two analyzed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The outline for the paper will be in the form of the eight steps from Our Iceberg is Melting for the purpose of identifying and planning a successful execution of steps needed to take for a positive outcome. Set the Stage Step 1: Create a Sense of Urgency According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, transportation related pollutants are one of the largest contributors to unhealthy air quality, (CDC, n.d.) which can lead to the worsening of asthma symptoms, among other negative health impacts. In the United States, emissions from cars and other motor vehicles account for more than 50 percent of air pollution in urban areas and the design of communities and transportation systems impact how often automobiles are used, how many automobile trips are taken, and how long those trips are (CDC, n.d.). In order to reduce these emissions, it is critical to consider increasing the usage of mass transit as well as other transportation alternatives and create a healthier atmosphere for everyone. In addition to the positive health impacts, reducing transportation caused pollutants would improve air quality that would have other positive environmental consequences. However, immediate action by the public, transportation experts and policy advisers, health professionals and other key actors is necessary immediately. Step 2: Pull ... Consider the organizational development of each firm and its implications on that company s strategic capability. What do you think of the change each company has made to date the objectives, the competencies, and incompetencies? What strategic impediments and disabilities did each bring to the organizational dynamics? What recommendations would you make to each organizational leader? Philips versus Matsushita Philips and Matsushita have over one century long history. Philips is based in the Netherlands and Matsushita based in Japan. Both based in fairly small countries and it was not long before they went global. Both of them can say that they had the ups and downs. They went through World War II and survived it. During their century in business survived the economic down turns. In general, Philips built its tenured success on a portfolio of responsive national organizations. On the other hand, Matsushita based its global strategy on a centralized and efficient operation through Japan. As they developed and reorganized their international strategies, each company was forced to undertake its strategic posture and restructuring as its competition position fell. The substance is known as Arsenic in Bangladesh. It was first found in the West Bengal ten years ago (1995 96). Arsenic is both toxic and carcinogenic. It is in inorganic forms, dissolved in drinking water which is the most significant forms of natural exposure. Organic forms of arsenic that may be present in food are much less toxic to humans. Systems using LS may require secondary treatment to meet that goal. Activated Alumina (AA) is effective in treating water with high total dissolved solids (TDS). However, selenium, fluoride, chloride, and sulfate, if present at high levels, may compete for adsorption sites. AA is highly selective towards As(V); and this strong attraction results in regeneration problems, possibly resulting in 5 to 10 percent loss of adsorptive capacity for each run. Application of point of use treatment devices would need to consider regeneration and replacement. Systems containing high levels of these constituents may require pretreatment. Reverse Osmosis (RO) provided removal efficiencies of greater than 95 percent when operating pressure is at ideal psi. If RO is used by small systems in the western U. S. , 60% water recovery will lead to an increased need for raw water. The water recovery is the volume of water produced by the process divided by the influent stream (product water/influent stream). Firms considering this option turn to syndicates of investment bankers to handle the initial sale of the firm s stock. In the case of a large initial public offering, an originating investment house may decide to form a syndicate of investors to lessen the financial risk to themselves. But the victory was also a miracle, as all the odds were against the Athenians at the onset of the war. While Pericles took charge of Athens after the war and started the advance of democracy, religion also thrived. Something close to a Homeric view can be drawn from this, with the difference being that Gods and Goddesses always take the form of a mortal when interacting with other mortals in Homer s epic poems, but the form that they appeared in was not addressed in The Eumenides. In the very same scene, after Orestes, Hermes, and Apollo have exited, the ghost of Clytaemestra is seen trying to awaken the sleeping Furies so they can continue their pursuit of Orestes. The appearance of ghosts is nothing new, as it has been done before in Homer s poems. What this shows, however, is that Aeschylus, likely a representative of Athenians during his time, had the same view that Homer did. In their eyes, not only do Gods and Goddesses walk among men, but even ghosts, something that should be considered on the opposite side of the spectrum, also appear in our world, as real as any men can be. The second scene of The Eumenides begins with Orestes arrival at the Acropolis, as he takes a suppliant posture at the feet of the statue of Athene (Aeschylus, 143). Athene is said to have entered in full armor (Aeschylus, 148), answering Orestes call for justice, just as the Furies have caught up with him. • 32. Identifying The Devils In Rachel Carson s Silent Spring Arnold Schweitzer once said man can hardly even recognize the devils in his own creation . This is the point that Rachel Carson argues throughout her book Silent Spring. Carson believes that though the scientific revolutions that occurred since the turn of the 19th century may seem to be solely beneficial, they have disastrous repercussions. In particular, Carson claims that man s newly established ability to have dominion over nature puts the world in a dangerous position. If humans let the power of controlling nature get to their head and refuse to attempt to understand the possible consequences of their actions, the Earth is destined to turn into a contaminated wasteland. She argues that if mankind continues to believe that it is superior to all around it and thereby continues to rapidly and impetuously alter nature to fit its own desires, then man is using science and technology to catalyze its own doom. Rather than seeing themselves as above nature and seeking to control it, they are observing it and its patterns to obtains a solution. Therefore the problem for Carson lies in the human superiority that has developed alongside the expansion of science. She criticizes the human desire for the control of nature which she believes is a phrase born of arrogance and instead opt for, as Dr. Briejer says, humbleness . In this case, the argument at hand would be that along with the legalization of gay marriage comes the allowing of bestial marriage, polygamy, and many other wrongs (Bidstrup). This tactic of scaring people of accepting the beneficial consequences of one rational decision is absurd. In countries where gay marriage is legal, there has been no talk of any such changes or disgusting tendencies. As a leading product on the global market we think of crude oil as a valuable substance, but are there more efficient materials, less pollutant substances and more reliable constituents that can support our future? The Importance Of The Left Brain And Right Brain Theory n the 1960s while studying patients with brain injuries, Roger Sperry discovered that the brain s right and the left hemispheres performed certain jobs. While each side is connected by the Corpus Callosum which sends messages back and forth, each hemisphere functions differently. The left brain versus right brain theory is based on Sperry s findings. The theory is that people are either left brained or right brained, meaning that one side of their brain is dominant (Pietrangelo, 2017, para. 7). The left side of the brain is responsible for language, logical thinking, math, science, writing and controls the right side of the body. The lack of stable, consistent housing is the central, deïŹning characteristic of families experiencing homelessness, distinguishing them and their experience(s) from those with stable housing who experience other correlated conditions (e.g., poverty) (Kilmer, Cook, Crusto, Strater, and Haber, 2012, p. 394). • 44. Life Of Pi Theme Essay Examples Theme Essay Life of Pi shows that humans and animals should do anything necessary to survive whatever challenges they face to live instead of just accepting death. Whatever ways that help one to survive are necessary, even if they compromise personal values, are vicious, or are wicked. Pi, a human; a hyena, and a blind man all fight to survive in a variety of ways that are examples of this thesis. Pi quits his vegetarian diet and also chooses to live on a raft next to a bengal tiger on a lifeboat, which are both unusual and unconventional choices for him. He satisfies his hunger by quitting being a vegetarian and eating fish. Pi knows that A lifetime of peaceful vegetarianism [stands] between [him] and the willful beheading of a fish (Martel 98). In other words, his body needs the fish because the beheading had to be done (Martel 98) in order to survive. In addition, Pi decides to feed a 450 pound (Martel 61) bengal tiger named Richard Parker for his own self preservation. He acknowledges, I had to tame him. It was at that moment that I realized this necessity...More likely the worst would happen: the simple passage of time, in which his animal toughness would easily outlast my human frailty (Martel 164). This means that Pi fears that the fierce animal strength and power of Richard Parker would eventually kill and eat him for food. Furthermore, Pi confesses to wanting Richard Parker to live primarily for Pi s own survival when he states, A part of me did not want ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Indian River Lagoon Growing up in one of the most biologically diverse estuaries in North America impacted my perception on nature from my first thought until now as a young adult. If you are from the south most people get a glimpse of how pretty Florida is but unless you fish, very few people get to check out the Indian River Lagoon. This massive body of water stretches whopping 156 miles and surprisingly takes up over 30% of Florida s east coast. Here the Atlantic collides with fresh water and creates an epic battling ground for fisherman and a lovely home for more than 2000 animal species (SJWM). I fortunately have had access to this wonderful estuary thanks to my grandparents. They moved into the developing town of satellite beach early on and bought property ... Off the northern coast of Sabah in East malaysia, 7 people died among 202 affected by Paralytic shellfish poisoning. This is due to red tide producing a class of neurotoxins called brevetoxins. These toxins not only get into our food supply but they become aerosolized by the surf and winds. When breathed in or ingested they are known to cause dizziness, numbness, vomiting, and even partial paralysis. Since this is still a relatively knew problem in the medical community, long term effects are still unknown. Among the neurotoxic effects, red tide can bring respiratory problems as I mentioned earlier. Getting up early to surf before school was a normal thing for me even when red tide was in full effect. I would come into school with bloodshot watery eyes, my skin and lungs burning only after an hour in the surf. The effects really sneak up on you if you don t understand it is ... • 47. Using Radiant And Convection Heat For Comfort Essay Introduction The concept of using radiant and convection heat for comfort has been around since early man. People chose south facing caves because the sun would warm up the rocks during the day and radiate the heat into the cave at night. The flames from a fire also gave off radiant heat. Technology has developed to control radiant and convection heat. Radiant heating and cooling (RHC) systems utilize the surrounding surfaces as heating and/or cooling sources. Generally, RHC systems are systems that radiant heat transfers cover more than 50% of heat exchange within a specified space. Compared to all air systems, which depend on convection only, the RHC system provides heating and cooling by the combination of radiation and convection in a building. There are three types of radiant floor heating systems. The first type is a radiant air floor, where the air is the heat transferring medium. The second type is electric radiant floor. The last type is hydronic radiant floor, which uses hot water. Types of Radiant Floor Heating The type of installation can further subdivide all three types of radiant floor heating, wet installation and dry installation. Installations where tubing is inserted into a concrete slab floor are called wet installations. Installations where the radiant floor tubing is between two layers of plywood or attaches the tubing under the finished or subfloor are called dry installations. Dry floors have gained more popularity over wet floors because of recent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Analysis Of On The Road By Langston Hughes Walker insists that there is representation to white people when the narrator of the story On the Road by Langston Hughes speaks of the church and the snow. Walker does include some nice points, points that one could easily see. Some of her points and observations though, I feel are a bit of a long shot. I have the same feelings towards Walker s comparison of On the Road and the story of Samson. Walker s first theory is that the snow is a symbol of the white oppressive world that is making sergeant so miserable and that he is trying so hard to ignore. Right off the bat I have to disagree with Walker. I do not believe that Sergeant is trying to ignore the snow. I think he honestly just doesn t notice it. He notice s white oppression. He even acknowledges it when he is shot down by Reverend Mr. Dorset and thinks They drew the color line anyhow, referring to the shelters and again when he says I know it s a white folks church. The snow is different. He has too much going on to be concerned with the snow. He is too hungry, sleepy, and cold to even notice the snow. It s like taking a day trip out in the hot sun. It s easy to feel pain in one s feet and not realize the sun burning his or her skin. It is still weather affecting someone, but because there are other issues, it goes unnoticed. The snow does play an important role in the view of the church. The church is pale in the snow. The church is blurry and distorted white because of the falling snow. This is the ...
