Can presidential systems work effectively in deeply divided societies? [Make reference to at least
two cases of your choosing.]
Thesis Statement
Presidentialism is a system of government in which the president is elected both chief executives
and as head of government (Ogelsby SuГЎrez, 1968) and is the main system of democratic
government apart from parliamentary systems. Presidential systems tend to centralise priorities of
the government to stabilise society. Normally, they are classed into separate regions of power;
where the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government are dependent on one
another and cannot work effectively in deeply divided societies. This argument is ruled by the
fact that they are 1) divisive, causing isolation between ethnoreligious groups. Elites are
prioritised over minority working class groups and 2) inherently majoritarian, as only a single
position is given causing proportionality to become impossible. In places such as Latin America
and Northern Ireland, we see the ways in which these theories have proven ineffectiveness.
However, presidential systems aim to separate powers in order to protect citizens rights and deter
abuse of power for good governance overall. Through this presidential systems, however, have
quick decisiveness in resolving societal issues. Without effective separation; executive, legislative
and judicial powers,

Critical Analysis Of Hester Prynne
In the critical essay On The Scarlet Letter by D.H. Lawrence, Lawrence criticizes the portrayal of
Hester Prynne in the novel, The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Lawrence displays his
views of the novel by using juvenalian satire to express his thoughts in a humorous, insightful way.
He narrows down on his scrutiny of the novel s main character, Hester Prynne. In his analysis, he
focuses on Hester Prynne s devilish acts in seducing Dimmesdale which is a hidden sin. D.H.
Lawrence effectively utilizes a mocking tone, a staccato like syntax, and a biblical allusion.
Lawrence uses a mocking tone to convey his thoughts about how Hester Prynne is the devil.
One example of how Lawrence demonstrates a mocking tone is when he states, Oh, Hester, you
are a demon. A man must be pure, just that you can seduce him to a fall (Lawrence 1). Lawrence
criticizes Hester by saying that she has the capability to destroy someone who is perfectly pure.
Even the best person in the world would instantly fail just because of Hester according to
Lawrence. He also states that The greatest triumph a woman can have, especially an American
woman. Is the triumph of seducing a man: especially is he is pure. (Lawrence 1). Lawrence
especially berates Hester for committing adultery, as he believes that adultery is one of the
biggest sins that one can commit. His mocking tone in this remark, conveys how he thinks that
Hester is the worst character in the novel due to all of her actions. Lawrence s mocking tone
shows how he thinks that Hawthorne accepts adultery too easily. In order to express Lawrence s
dismay for Hester Prynne, he uses a staccato like syntax. He uses short sentences to express the
importance of what he is saying. For example, he states Flop. , Flop goes spiritual love. in two
different lines (Lawrence 1). By stating these quotes, it also represents how Hester would never
find true love because of how much of an awful person she is He states his thoughts in two short
sentences to express his ideas quickly and effectively. This is because he thinks Hawthorne is too
accepting about the idea and act of adultery. His use of these short phrases allows Lawrence to
express his thought efficiently and effectively.

Cyber Predators And Its Effects On Children
Introduction: The cyber crime I have chosen is cyber predators. Cyber predators are individuals
who commit sexual abuse that begins or takes place on the Internet. Although the Internet did not
create child predators, it has significantly increased the opportunities predators have to meet
victims while minimizing detection. They can communicate with children anonymously through
instant messaging, social networking sites, chat rooms, message boards, and even cell phones.
Online predators do not fit any one mold or stereotype; seemingly upstanding citizens have been
caught enticing children for sexual acts. Contrary to popular belief, most online predators are
not pedophiles. Pedophiles target pre pubescent children, while online predators typically target
adolescents who engage in risky online behavior. (Wolak J, Finkelhor D, Mitchell K, Ybarra M.
2008). Describe the type of cybercrime you selected. Predators take advantage of children s
natural vulnerabilities, such as their desire to appear adult or their need for attention. Grooming is
the process through which predators play on these vulnerabilities by offering children gifts and
attention. It does not happen overnight. Grooming can be a long process that a patient, tenacious
predator has planned and perfected to gain a child s trust. This grooming may lead to the child s
willingness to meet the person with whom he or she is chatting. Offenders will often entice a child
into a face to face meeting by

Food And Food Waste
Food waste has become of great concern throughout recent years. It is estimated that 50 percent of
all globally produced food is wasted. (Barthel, Macnaughton, Parfitt, 2010). Contrary to this, there
are 42.2 million people who live in food insecure homes in America alone (USDA, 2015). How do
people go hungry when there is so much foodthat is just being wasted? To know this, it is important
to first understand why food is being wasted.
The idea to consume beyond normal levels of need comes from various environmental factors,
some of which trick people psychologically. For example, larger plates, portion sizes, and
unportioned servings have lead people to consume more than what is ideal (Ledikwe, Ello Martin,
Rolls, 2005). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This lead the rats that had consumed junk food to become addicted to it in the same way as a
drug addiction would occur (Avena, Radal, Hoebel, 2007). From this study, one can conclude that
those who consume junk food often are more likely to become addicted to it and overeat, creating
over consumption of nutrient poor foods in lower income persons. Location is another factor that
plays into this. Those that live further from grocery stores with fresh produce are more likely to
shop at convenience stores that contain more processed food and less fruits and vegetables
(Inagami, Cohen, Finch, Asch, 2006). This also plays into the overconsumption of processed foods
among low income individuals, confining many in more impoverished areas to less than adequate
stores with limited options.
Society can t accuse consumers of 100 percent of the overconsumption problem, certain institutions
can also be condemned for their unethical behaviors. For centuries, companies have become
extremely efficient in attracting customers to their product or service. Marketing is often identified
as a major promoter to the declination of our environment in regards to overconsumption. In a
recent focus group, people were asked why they consume more than they need. An overwhelming
response pinned the blame on marketing and it was clear that the focus members were very critical
of marketers (Heath and Chatzidakis, 2011). Every which way one turns, they will see

Was Roosevelt A Pragmatist
To understand whether FDR was to a greater extent an Isolationist in the 1930s, one must
consider of his foreign policy in the 1930s and figure out which of his foreign policy was made in
a perspective of an pragmatist, isolationist or gradualist. Finally, one must consider which of the
three different views or perspective was to a greater extent, great extent or somewhat extent
suitable to FDR with regards to his foreign policy.
Roosevelt was predominantly a Pragmatist with regards to his decision made throughout his
foreign policy in 1930s. Despite Roosevelt understand that US involvement in war is crucial, and
had won some support for his views in the quarantine speech; Roosevelt did not offered no real

Roosevelt s Good neighbor policy was a non intervention policy that aims to promote good
relationship with Latin America and solidify Latin American support through avoiding Military
intervention of US to Latin America, but instead using a much more peaceful tone. This is
important as it clearly shows that Roosevelt was not a staunch isolationist as the reason he want
to maintain a good relationship with Latin is due to fear towards the conflict in Europe, so from
this it could be seen that Roosevelt is actually preparing for intervention to war and is seeking for
ways to gain more support and Latin American is one of it. In addition in August 1935, Roosevelt
had also signed the Neutrality Act; a law that was designed to keep the United States out of a
possible European war by banning shipment of war materiel to belligerents at the discretion of
the President. This is important as despite aware of the rise of totalitarism, Roosevelt didn t
challenger over the congress over on the neutrality act and was willing to follow his good
neighbor policy for the purpose of avoiding USA entanglements in the 1930s as Americans had
been frightened by the tragic of war as memories of the First world War were still

Random Errors
Before conducting the experiment, one of the group members attempted to calculate the theoretical
values for the optimum angle at the different launch heights. These calculations were then
discovered to be incorrect after conducting the experiment. This resulted in the incorrect sample
range of the launch angles, creating data that that only showcased a small part of an overall trend.
This resulted in accurate data and the quadratic equations expressing the data, thus misrepresenting
the trends.
Experimental Errors:

Light gate placement
A light gate was placed in front of the barrel of the projectile launcher at a distance of about 5cm.
This resulted in the recorded flight time being less than the true flight time value. The distance the
light gate was placed in front of the barrel of the launcher was kept constant for all repetitions and
samples. This would have resulted in inaccurate data. This systematic error could be reduced with
closer placement of the light gate to the opening of the barrel, allowing the instrument to record
more accurate results.
2.Errors in vertical displacement
Since the projectile launcher was raised above a table top, school trays were used to raise the
landing area and fulfil the requirements of uni level projectile motion. The height of the launcher
was measured using a plastic ruler and then school trays were stacked on top of each other to try
and make it uni level. There may have been small differences in the height of the launch site and
landing site, thus not resulting in true uni level projection. To reduce the effect of this error in the
future, a block metal should be made to exactly the correct height of the launcher, ensuing that true
uni level projection is

Louisiana Coastal Land Essay
The loss of Louisiana coastal land is one of the most, major factors in our environment today.
Louisiana has already lost 1,880 square miles of land in the past eight decades. This problem is
effecting the state funding to help solve the problem before the state lose more coastal land. In
order to stop this situation, the state needs to have a stronger structural protection for the coastline
(Wilson, 2013). Louisiana s wetlands today represent about 40 percent of the wetlands of the
continental United States. (Wilson, 2013) The threat of more land and communities being lost is a
much greater concern now, as scientist and coastal specialists predict that Louisiana can lose an
additional 1,750 square miles of land in the next... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The natural processes of coastal land formation are based on the sedimentary load delivered by the
Mississippi River. Natural disturbances that contribute to coastal land loss are form hurricanes
eroding marshes and putting excessive saltwater into the system. Another disturbance is from
humans, which has a massive impact on the balance of wetland growth and decline. (Wilson,
2013). Over half of the wetlands have been lost since the colonization of America. The main forms
of human disturbance are the river control structures such as dams and levees, the dredging of
canals, and draining and filling. (Davis Wheeler,

Civil War Dbq Essay
When the Civil War erupted at the attack on Fort Sumter in 1861, fighting was mainly driven by
political tensions, all of which ultimately spawned from the question of slavery. During the
Antebellum Period, the United States experienced a gradually intensifying sectional conflict that
threatened the unity of the nation. Compromises between the North and South had become futile.
Contrary to popular belief, the goals of Lincoln and the North did not involve the emancipation of
slaves and restoration of equality and the opportunity of prosperity for all Americans. Most
Northerners fought to preserve the newly split Union, while Southerners fought to protect what
they believed to be inalienable states rights. Ultimately, precarious African American... Show more

Though this statement only freed slaves in regions still participating in rebellion, it demonstrated
a shift in purpose and gave the North moral justification to fight in the war. By thrusting
themselves into the war effort, African Americans changed a war based on political
disagreements and state power into a war to terminate and forever prohibit slavery. (Doc. D) This
document may be considered bias, especially by Confederate sympathizers, because it was written
by members of the Republican Party platform most of which heavily advocated emancipation.
Lincoln, who initially remained neutral on the topic of slavery, became inspired by the
willingness with which African Americans stake their lives for us, they must be prompted by the
strongest motive even the promise of freedom. And the promise being made, must be kept. (Doc.
C) Therefore, the willing participation of blacks in the Civil War with the hopes of achieving
freedom caused an entirely new goal of the war to form in the

The Historical Visit of President Nixon to China Essay
As I understand the historical connection between China and United States, they were and in some
sense still are both rivals, which began with Mao Zedong driving American supported Chang out
of China soon after the unconditional surrender of the defeat of aggressive Imperial Japan in 1945.
Mao took over China and forced Chang to beat a hasty retreat to Taiwan Island. Then in l950, the
world witnessed the fierce armed confrontation between Mao led China versus the United Nations
forces with the full backing of United Statesduring the three year Korean War which eventually
became a stalemate to this day. Then there was another world shattering war between U.S. and

The Diary Of Anne Rodway And The Speckled Band
Detective fiction is filled a wide array of characters and plotlines that can be analyzed for cultural
significance and meaning within the literature. I chose to analyze The Diary of Anne Rodway and
The Speckled Band because they were two very different styled stories in their narration, character
development, and plot deliveries. Although they were had various dissimilar aspects, both
portrayed women in a light that put them in an inferior position to men. I wanted to know why
classical detective stories endorse the vision of women being more emotional and having far less
intelligence than men in their abilities to solve a mysterious crime. I became interested in this topic
once we started reading the different texts in class and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kayman describes the literature of female detectives in regards to their relationships, falling in
love, and their ability to gain the trust of others rather than solving crimes through knowledge.
This is evident as he says, Rather than the intellectual, it is, then, the actress whose presence one
most feels in stories of lady detectives during the period: the figure who, with her capacity for
disguise, pretense and deceit, embodies both the cultural stereotype of the promiscuous,
mendacious, and hysterical woman (Kayman 52). While women are viewed with the finesse and
the discrete ability to gain the confidence of others, Kayman never mentioned the success of
women detectives nor their capabilities to solve crimes like the male detectives. He talked far
more in depth on Sherlock Holmes and his unquestioned intellect showing the distinct
discrepancy between the two gender portrayals. Kaymen uses Holmes as an example when he
says, the ideal detective required not only the power of observation and that of deduction but also
knowledge , and the pieces of obscure information with which he is constantly surprising us are
often as decisive as any supposedly deductive rigour (50). The discrepancy seen between the two
genders in Kayman s short story was a very influential aspect of my thinking on this matter because
he shows that the women of this literary genre were not seen in the same respect as

Sexual Identity And Gender Expression
To conceptualise sexual identity and gender expression, Judith Butler (1990) proposes a
poststructuralist perspective; that gendered behaviour (masculinity and femininity) is learned, a
performative act, and that gender is constructed through a heterosexual matrix . She describes this as
[A] hegemonic/epistemic model of gender intelligibility that assumes that for bodies to cohere and
make sense there must be a stable sex expressed through a stable gender (masculine expresses
discursive male, feminine expresses female) that is oppositionally and hierarchically defined
through the compulsory practice of heterosexuality (Butler, 1990; 151).
She proposes that one is born a particular sex, which in turn dictates one s gender, which in turn ...

Reality, from the realist perspective, is seen to have a stratification of existence, which Bhaskar
(date) outlines as the empirical , the actual and the real . The empirical is the experienced, a sub
set of the actual; the things and events in their concrete historicity, and these are both a sub set of
the real; the structures, the internal relations of the actual parts. Socially, realists distinguish the
empirical reality of social life from the real objects whose causal powers effect social change
through actual mechanisms. This ontological depth has bearing when exploring the sex gender
relationship, where there are real anatomical sex differences, and empirically real gender
differences. Rather than deterministic , sex categories are causal to result in a particular gender.
One born to a particular anatomical sex tends to be a particular gender; the outcome is probable.
That is because of the actual mechanisms, the cultural, religious, historical truths, that create a
tendency between the real and the empirical . This is what Butler somewhat fails to portray: the
influences of race, class, and time.
Heteronormativity is the term coined to define the systemic and pervasive belief, structurally,
socially and somewhat unconsciously, that heterosexuality is the normal and inevitable sexuality, it
makes sense . It is grounded in determinism; that one s anatomical sex must compliment their
partner s opposite

Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Waste
The purpose of a nuclear power plant is to produce electricity for supporting increases in
consumption. Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) defines nuclear energy as the energy
released by a nuclear reaction, especially by fission or fusion. In general terms, nuclear energy
uses fuel made from mined and processed uranium to make steam and generate electricity (ENEC
2011). Nuclear powerplant currently producing electricity in the U.S include the Pressurized Water
Reactor and the Boiling Water Reactor. To illustrate the importance of nuclear energy to the United
States, 20% of our nation s electricity production comes from the 104 commercially operating
reactors (Funk and Socacool 2012). However, security issues surrounding nuclear power lead to the
U.S nuclear regulatory agencies imposing strict regulations on the production of nuclear energy.
As a result, development and construction time of a nuclear power plant is a complex process.
Before an applicant can start building a nuclear power plant, it must receive approval from the U.S
Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Previous regulations required that a nuclear power plant was
licensed under a two step licensing process (NRC 2004). This former process required both a
construction permit and an operating license (NRC 2004). In 1989, the NRC established an
alternative licensing process which formed a joint license between the construction permit and an
operating license (NRC 2004). Following approval from the U.S NRC

High School Law
How would teenagers react to a law that states that one must receive a high school diploma in

this law for the same reasons. In this essay, I will dive into the effects of this law, including the
hidden obscurities that would have those effects tied to them. One effect would be the availability
for teenagers to work. Firstly, if teens cannot work, then they might not be able to support their
families. Families that exist on welfare need as much money as they can acquire, and a child not

Firstly, the entire reason many teens receive driver s licenses is for the reason that they can be
free. Taking the freedom from a teen is identical to imprisoning them. The statement is true since
neither situation allows them to leave at their own whim. Secondly, teens obtain driver s licenses
for the reason that one might desire to clear their head, or remove themselves from an abusive
family. Being able to escape is needed in one s life, lest they wish to be trapped in their own
regrets and shame. Escaping an abusive family is an absolute must, for the simple reason that is
isn t ethical to force them to stay. Finally, teens enjoy hanging out with friends. It s a natural part
of society to aspire to be with other people than their family from time to time. Parties remain an
example of a piece of society that would be demolished if driver s licenses were retrieved from
teenagers until the completion of high school. This, along with the other two factors, stands the key
reasons teens should retain their licenses once they obtain it at age

Early Rome Research Paper
From the beginning of time until this very moment many new people groups have joined to form
new civilizations. This all then led to new ideas which they formed new concepts of how to do
things such as farming, living, government, etc. Throughout this paper, I will be talking a little bit
about the early Roman way of living, government, and their armies ways and changes, then at the
end about the scutum which is the roman shield.
Rome is located in Italy, that is shaped like a boot. It is located in the middle of the Mediterranean
world. Rome is also just located west of the Apennine Mountains, which runs 746 miles across
the peninsula of Italy. The Mountains of Italy are the southwest continuation of the Apennine
Mountains. Another reference to location is Sicily which is nearly connected to the tip of Italy.
In early Rome, they began to live right by the Mediterranean Sea, due to the convenient location
they had many advantages some such as being able to fish for their days of work and for food.
Their land was also more suitable for farming due to the fact they were near an obvious
abundance of water. Then perhaps one of the biggest advantages of this is that they were able to
trade efficiently since they could use the Mediterranean Sea as a trade route. After they expanded

Creative Class Initiatives
Economic development for small cities can be a problem compared with big cities. The
metropolitan areas are more likely to attract and retain the manufacturing and technology
companies. However, development agencies are looking for different policies incentives to make
the small cities more competitive with larger cities. The idea of investing in cultural development is
a viable option to improve the economic developmentof communities spread in rural areas. The
culture agencies intend a planning effort to hold a series of events to stimulate the public to

The creative class initiatives are the key force for the economic growth in the post industrial phase
when service sectors outweigh the manufacturing sector. Consistent with the creative class,
promoting art and culture based on the art tour is a suitable idea to help the southwest Iowa
communities to grow. In addition, it also promotes the region encouraging people to visit and
moved to the following cities. According to Zachary Mannheimer, the director of the Des Moines
Social Club, if the city wants to stimulate the economic growth, it should invest in the arts rather
than get started in the jobs, this investment will make small communities achieve optimum results
quickly. Furthermore, the agencies use events as a tool of the attraction of people and companies
showing that the region is a viable place to live. The trend observed is that events make an
interconnection of the individuals with the community and it is a very good idea to connect
communities through art. Therefore, three recommendation are the key to the success of the cities
in the southwest of Iowa. First, it is mandatory to stimulate partnership between communities
among arts groups, communities, and organization. Consequently, the events can turn into a
potential tool to offer a cultural education for the community and create a program of school based
art education for the residents. Second, the civic engagement of the community is an important
strategy to achieve the results. When the community works together, it makes the difference for
the future, based on the developing knowledge, skills, and values to promote the quality of life.
Finally, developing and build an environment audience is a key to reach and involve more citizens
based on the cultural development. The fact of involving more people in the plan it is a way to

Since librarians choose what books make it onto the shelves, they have a small influence on

The Age of Enlightenment in Society
Necessity is the mother of invention. Long ago after a treacherous, extensive war, when a king
ruled over many lands he took away the rights of his people. This caused many philosophers,
politicians, artist, writers and any other man who started to question all that each believed in and
wanted rights, decided to finally say what they really thought of their king and how he was wrong
with what he was doing (SparkNotes). As humans, everyone was born with natural rights that are
incredibly important to have control over (John Locke). When they were stripped of their
privileges it caused many to think of new ideas, or in other words, new inventions. Between the
1600 s and 1790 s enlightenment thinkers changed society with the new concept of putting
power in the peoples hands. The king took away any self dignity he could from any individual
he may to gain more power for himself. With all of this capability and no one to stop him, he
made destructive decisions. Everyone in the land was imposed with taxes, without any voice given
from any personage. Men with lowest income received the highest taxes, and men with highest
income received lowest taxes (Declaration). The so called mighty rule was destroying families,
killing mothers, fathers, and even children. He made sure that living was the most laborious and
strenuous thing the lower class peasants ever did. He pushed and pushed his followers, the further
he pushed the more wroth they began to be. The king refused to give

Compare And Contrast Shin And Evans
In all my years of reading comics, few storylines have managed to moved me to tears.
With the help of Stephen Shin and Daniel Evans, Aquaman attempts to uncover the truth behind the
disappearance of his mother, Queen Atlanna. The use of Shin and Evans to solve at Atlantean
problem to an extent showcased the unity of land and sea that the series has constantly thrived to
achieve. Even though he is merely a supporting character in the arc, the death of Daniel Evans was
one of the unexpected highlights thinking about it still makes me tear up a little. Aquaman s trust in
Evans coupled with his guilt over the events of Burden of Curiosity greatly magnified his transition
from a naГЇve archeologist to an unlikely hero.
Another feature of Maelstrom was the subplot involving Gorilla City. Not only was this

The Main Difficulties With Multi Agency Partnerships

Safeguarding children can best be described as an action taken to promote the welfare of children

preventing harm to children s health or development. (NSPCC, 2016).
Multi agency partnerships in safeguarding children look to identify the goals, circumstances and
needs of children, agencies must agree with both the contribution each agency will have Ensuring it
meets the every child matters guidelines, the main aims are to improve the sharing of information
between the agencies and Oversee arrangements for agencies to work collaboratively in the
commissioning, delivery and integration of services. (Cheminais R, 2009:2).
There are many benefits to working within a multi agency partnership, it not only allows for
professional views from different professionals from a variety of different professions but it also
allows for an individual to receive specifically tailored help top overcome their own situations in
regards to health and welfare, However despite the benefits to multi agency partnerships in
safeguarding children there are many difficulties that need to be acknowledged.

Response to Intervention in the Class Room Essay
Response to Intervention Response to Intervention (RtI) is a framework based off the problem
solving method that integrates assessment, and targeted instruction, within a multi tiered
intervention system. Implementation of RtI in schools is crucial to identify which students need
additional intervention that will help increase their literacy skills, and prevent them from falling
behind. RtI is based off multi leveled tiers that are each categorized by the intensity of the
intervention that is being used. The RtI framework is also used as a valued tool in monitoring and

If the appropriate progress is not made by a student in Tier III in a timely matter, the next step
would be to test the student for any learning disabilities that are hindering their literacy skills.
RtI works at its best when personal from across the school, including administrators, general
education teachers, special education teachers, supplemental specialists, music and gym
teachers, and counselors all collaborate to support the framework, because each staff member
shares equal responsibility for the success and failure of all students (Shapiro 2011). RtI needs
the full support of all staff members, because it does not show immediate results and could take
between 3 5 years to see its positive impact. RtI gives schools the chance to correct literacy issues,
and fix the problem early, before students progress forward where they pay for it long into their
future. RtI also helps implement behavioral interventions in the classroom through a similar
process called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is based on a problem
solving model and aims to prevent inappropriate behavior through teaching and reinforcing
appropriate behaviors (Sandomierski, Kincaid Algozzine, 2007). Both RtI and PBIS are grounded
in differentiated instruction; a type of instruction that is beneficial to all types of students with

The segmentation scheme in Intel 80386 microprocessor is more advanced than that in Intel 8086
microprocessor. The 8086 segments start at a fixed location and are always 64K in size, but with
80386, the starting location and the segment size can separately be specified by the user.
The segments may overlap, it allows two segments to share address space. To send the necessary
information, segment tables with segment selector as index are used. At any time, only two
segment tables can be active. They are Global Descriptor Table (GDT) and a Local Descriptor
Table (LDT). This two segment table only can be executed by the operating system.
Segment table is an array of segment descriptors which specify the starting address and the size
of the segment. Each segment descriptor has 2 bits specifying its privilege level, called as the

(RPL) and Current Privilege Level (CPL) before processor grants the access to a segment. If the
DPL of the segment is less than or equals to the RPL as well as the CPL, then the processor will
grant access to a particular segment. This serves as protection mechanism for operating system.

Bad Habits Developed Over Time
A habit, by definition, is an act which is repeated by a person without the individual being aware
that they are continuously displaying or committing that certain behavior. There are many bad
habits a person can develop over time. Some of these could include having a drug habit, an
eating disorder, or many other undesirable behaviors. These negative habits can all be broken and
could lead to positive outcomes if they were to be broken successfully. Many of the habits
considered to be bad require a personto make specific changes in their life in order to conquer said
habit. There are a plethora of different steps and/or tasks that can be used to assist a person with the
daunting task of breaking an unwanted habit.
One of the first steps that must be completed by a person wanting to end a habit they believe to be
detrimental is to acknowledge the action and to be aware of their situation. In some instances, this
requires the person in question to admit that they exhibit problematic behavior because of the habit
they have. The act of admitting that their actions lead them to repeat negative acts or thoughts
because of their habit is essential to eliminating it. With this in mind, an individual must be aware
of an issue before it can be resolved. Knowing the habit is present and affecting your life in a
negative fashion is a very important step within this process.

Women, Ageism, and Poverty in Canada

Women, Ageism and Poverty in Canada
Women have benefitted greatly from the efforts of Feminism. The three waves of feminism have
given women the vote, control over their bodies, freedom of choice, the right to pursue higher
education, empowerment, the ability to identify areas of inequality, the right to attain male
dominated jobs and the right to expect equal pay for work of equal value. Women have fought
hard to obtain the tools to rise above the glass ceiling. For all that feminism has accomplished,
there are still areas that need more consideration. Until recently, feminism had concentrated on
females who were in the reproductive stage of their lives. The aging female was hardly considered.

The failure of second wave feminists to address ageism earlier in the women s rights movement has
resulted in a remaining gender based gap facing the older woman.
Women are burdened with many obstacles to achieve equality in the work place. In the corporate

professional spheres, there are barriers to promotion, validation and acceptance. One of these
obstacles is ageism,
and the perceptions that older women work less effectively than young women and men. The
CEDAW (Convention

of many forms of
discrimination (Begum, n.d. p. 1). For older women the stereotyped image is frail, doddering,

Difference Between The Oud And The Oud

countries.
Classified as string instruments both the guitar and the oud have a few similarities. To be held and

and the use of strings to produce their acoustic sound. The wooden neck on both guitars allows one

Lamech, the sixth grandson of Adam, invented the Oud. Legend has it that, overcome by grief at
the death of his son, Lamech hung his body from a tree. The first ever Oud was thus inspired by

The Happiest Refugee Quotes
In Anh Do s heartwarming and inspiring memoir The Happiest Refugee, the author elicits the
prosperous adventure of a migrant family that come across various personal and memorable
experiences. The central theme of a migrant family is established through their successful journey
to Australia. Anh Do portrays this theme through the life lessons he learns from his parents,
furthermore he is given a variety of opportunities where he could earn money and contribute to the
family s income. His academic endeavors at school is depicted through his lucrative career as a
comedian and an university student.
Anh Do perpetuates that he and his family had a prosperous future in their journey to Australia,
between the life lessons Anh learns. During his childhood and early years as a student Anh learns
valuable lessons from his family although his dad is away for most of his childhood years. As
shown through family relationships Anh has a sense of stand up for all his family s positive values
that he eventually assimilates from when he migrates to Australia. When Anh and his family could
not afford the farm for their breeding ducks, Anh s father was not the one who they could stop. His
famous Vietnamese line, There s only two times in life, there now and there too late, symbolises
that Anh s father has a very built of nature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Anh and other finalists were part of a comedy competition, in which the winner was Anh he
describes the enthusiasm as, I d won five thousand big one and Tram got her teeth fixed. This

his successful journey is thoroughly emphasised in the ways he assists his

The New York Yankees, It Can Destroy Your Future
The past should be left in the past, otherwise it can destroy your future. These are wonderful
words which we should all strive to live by. But letting go of a regrettable past is difficult for
even the strongest among us. For members of the 1960 New York Yankees, the World Series of
that year is still the most disappointing memory any of them can recall. And while vivid mental
pictures of a bad hop grounder hitting shortstop Tony Kubek in the throat, the Clemente chop,
which landed between two undecided fielders and the unforgettable sight of Yogi, his back to the
camera, watching helplessly as Bill Mazeroski s homerun sails over the left field wall, are all
etched in the mind of everyone who witnessed these mind boggling... Show more content on

Many choices that were made have never been justified, leading to questions that have never
been answered. Nevertheless, much of what went wrong in that seven game series for the New
Yorkers can be chalked up to chance. However, in retrospect, it is quite evident that with sound
decision making and fundamental baseball strategy, many of the unfortunate things that took
place could have been avoided. The Yankees should have never been put in a such a position,
their backs to the wall in a seventh game. The team was far too talented for that to have
happened. And it is with the same staunch belief that I place much of the blame at the feet of
manager Casey Stengel, not in a way to attack his character, but to question his astuteness as a
team leader at that point in his career. Of all of the questionable choices he made in the 1960
Fall Classic, it was the use of his pitching staff for which Stengel is still most heavily criticized.
His most questionable moves relate to the pitchers he selected as well as the timing and sequence
in which he used them, the most glaring being his choice of starting pitcher for game one.
Picking the game one starter is one of the most crucial decisions a World Series manager will
make. The first game pitcher will not only set the tone for the remainder of the series, but should
the series reach a seventh game, the number one starter in the rotation will be available to work
games four and seven as well. And while Art Ditmar

Abortion Controversy Essays
The Abortion Issue
Introduction
Abortion has been a very controversial subject over these past few decades. Every time you pick
up a paper or magazine it seems there is always some protest regarding abortion, whether it be for
fetal rights or women s rights. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica the definition of abortion
is the expulsion of a fetus from the uterus before it has reached the stage of viability (in human
beings, usually about the 20th week of gestation). An abortion may occur spontaneously, in which
case it is also called a miscarriage, or it may be brought on purposefully, in which case it is often
called an induced abortion. This paper will focus only on those abortions which are considered to
be induced and will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their possibility for a promising future would not be lost due to the fact that they were missing a
hand. Abortion, like ordinary killing, could be justified only by the most compelling reasons
(Marquis, p. 400). The biggest problem with this issue is where to draw the line between severe
and bearable pain and disability. What one person might consider not worth living with may be
very different from another person s definition. What ends up happening is the development of a
slippery slope between permissible and not permissible abortions based on disabilities. There will
always be disagreements on which disabilities could be considered to have an impact on a person
having a good future.
Many people opposed to abortion rely on the fact that the fetus is a human being from the
moment that they are conceived. At that moment a unique DNA is created and they argue that
God places a human soul in that just fertilized Ovum (Robinson, p.1). This has seemed to be a
continuing debate between both sides. Pro life activists disagree with the argument that a fetal
life becomes a person only when electrical activity begins in the cerebral cortex. They argue that
at the time of conception all major decisions as to what that fetus will become have been
determined. For example, whether it will be male of female, what height it will be, what build it
will be, and what colour it s

Marriage Should Not Be A Sacred Thing
Marriage used to be a sacred thing; once you married someone you spend the rest of your life
with them. Even some places such as the Philippines and The Vatican City make divorce illegal.
Here in America divorces are happening every single day. This social phenomenon is considered
problematic. Almost 50% of all marriages end in divorce. When most people think of a divorce,
they think of it ending in bad terms due to infidelity; but this is not always the case. It s important
to understand what a divorce is, how it works, who it affects, the consequences, and the solution.
Divorce has become way to common; we need to reestablish the sacredness of marriageand the
importance of family.
There are two types of divorces, a no fault and an at fault. No fault divorces mean that the person
filing does not have to prove fault on their spouse. States still require a reason for divorces so the
most common reasons are there are too many differences and the marriage is not repairable. An at
fault divorce is most common and this is when a spouse is filing for divorce because of infidelity,
abuse, prison confinement, and may more reasons where the other spouse is at fault and
deteriorating the marriage. There are 5 different defenses against an at fault divorce; connivance,
condonation, recrimination, provocation, and collusion. Connivance is defense to adultery, it
suggests that the partner agreed to and/or participated in the infidelity. Condonation declares that
the other spouse knew

  • 2. Can Presidential Systems Work Effectively Within Deeply... Name: Amanda Raizis ID: 300306546 Tutor: Tim Webster Tutorial Time: Thursday 11.00 11.50pm Can presidential systems work effectively in deeply divided societies? [Make reference to at least two cases of your choosing.] Thesis Statement Presidentialism is a system of government in which the president is elected both chief executives and as head of government (Ogelsby SuГЎrez, 1968) and is the main system of democratic government apart from parliamentary systems. Presidential systems tend to centralise priorities of the government to stabilise society. Normally, they are classed into separate regions of power; where the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government are dependent on one another and cannot work effectively in deeply divided societies. This argument is ruled by the fact that they are 1) divisive, causing isolation between ethnoreligious groups. Elites are prioritised over minority working class groups and 2) inherently majoritarian, as only a single position is given causing proportionality to become impossible. In places such as Latin America and Northern Ireland, we see the ways in which these theories have proven ineffectiveness. However, presidential systems aim to separate powers in order to protect citizens rights and deter abuse of power for good governance overall. Through this presidential systems, however, have quick decisiveness in resolving societal issues. Without effective separation; executive, legislative and judicial powers, ... • 3. Critical Analysis Of Hester Prynne In the critical essay On The Scarlet Letter by D.H. Lawrence, Lawrence criticizes the portrayal of Hester Prynne in the novel, The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Lawrence displays his views of the novel by using juvenalian satire to express his thoughts in a humorous, insightful way. He narrows down on his scrutiny of the novel s main character, Hester Prynne. In his analysis, he focuses on Hester Prynne s devilish acts in seducing Dimmesdale which is a hidden sin. D.H. Lawrence effectively utilizes a mocking tone, a staccato like syntax, and a biblical allusion. Lawrence uses a mocking tone to convey his thoughts about how Hester Prynne is the devil. One example of how Lawrence demonstrates a mocking tone is when he states, Oh, Hester, you are a demon. A man must be pure, just that you can seduce him to a fall (Lawrence 1). Lawrence criticizes Hester by saying that she has the capability to destroy someone who is perfectly pure. Even the best person in the world would instantly fail just because of Hester according to Lawrence. He also states that The greatest triumph a woman can have, especially an American woman. Is the triumph of seducing a man: especially is he is pure. (Lawrence 1). Lawrence especially berates Hester for committing adultery, as he believes that adultery is one of the biggest sins that one can commit. His mocking tone in this remark, conveys how he thinks that Hester is the worst character in the novel due to all of her actions. Lawrence s mocking tone shows how he thinks that Hawthorne accepts adultery too easily. In order to express Lawrence s dismay for Hester Prynne, he uses a staccato like syntax. He uses short sentences to express the importance of what he is saying. For example, he states Flop. , Flop goes spiritual love. in two different lines (Lawrence 1). By stating these quotes, it also represents how Hester would never find true love because of how much of an awful person she is He states his thoughts in two short sentences to express his ideas quickly and effectively. This is because he thinks Hawthorne is too accepting about the idea and act of adultery. His use of these short phrases allows Lawrence to express his thought efficiently and effectively. ... • 4. Cyber Predators And Its Effects On Children Introduction: The cyber crime I have chosen is cyber predators. Cyber predators are individuals who commit sexual abuse that begins or takes place on the Internet. Although the Internet did not create child predators, it has significantly increased the opportunities predators have to meet victims while minimizing detection. They can communicate with children anonymously through instant messaging, social networking sites, chat rooms, message boards, and even cell phones. Online predators do not fit any one mold or stereotype; seemingly upstanding citizens have been caught enticing children for sexual acts. Contrary to popular belief, most online predators are not pedophiles. Pedophiles target pre pubescent children, while online predators typically target adolescents who engage in risky online behavior. (Wolak J, Finkelhor D, Mitchell K, Ybarra M. 2008). Describe the type of cybercrime you selected. Predators take advantage of children s natural vulnerabilities, such as their desire to appear adult or their need for attention. Grooming is the process through which predators play on these vulnerabilities by offering children gifts and attention. It does not happen overnight. Grooming can be a long process that a patient, tenacious predator has planned and perfected to gain a child s trust. This grooming may lead to the child s willingness to meet the person with whom he or she is chatting. Offenders will often entice a child into a face to face meeting by ... • 5. Food And Food Waste Food waste has become of great concern throughout recent years. It is estimated that 50 percent of all globally produced food is wasted. (Barthel, Macnaughton, Parfitt, 2010). Contrary to this, there are 42.2 million people who live in food insecure homes in America alone (USDA, 2015). How do people go hungry when there is so much foodthat is just being wasted? To know this, it is important to first understand why food is being wasted. The idea to consume beyond normal levels of need comes from various environmental factors, some of which trick people psychologically. For example, larger plates, portion sizes, and unportioned servings have lead people to consume more than what is ideal (Ledikwe, Ello Martin, Rolls, 2005). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This lead the rats that had consumed junk food to become addicted to it in the same way as a drug addiction would occur (Avena, Radal, Hoebel, 2007). From this study, one can conclude that those who consume junk food often are more likely to become addicted to it and overeat, creating over consumption of nutrient poor foods in lower income persons. Location is another factor that plays into this. Those that live further from grocery stores with fresh produce are more likely to shop at convenience stores that contain more processed food and less fruits and vegetables (Inagami, Cohen, Finch, Asch, 2006). This also plays into the overconsumption of processed foods among low income individuals, confining many in more impoverished areas to less than adequate stores with limited options. Society can t accuse consumers of 100 percent of the overconsumption problem, certain institutions can also be condemned for their unethical behaviors. For centuries, companies have become extremely efficient in attracting customers to their product or service. Marketing is often identified as a major promoter to the declination of our environment in regards to overconsumption. In a recent focus group, people were asked why they consume more than they need. An overwhelming response pinned the blame on marketing and it was clear that the focus members were very critical of marketers (Heath and Chatzidakis, 2011). Was Roosevelt A Pragmatist To understand whether FDR was to a greater extent an Isolationist in the 1930s, one must consider of his foreign policy in the 1930s and figure out which of his foreign policy was made in a perspective of an pragmatist, isolationist or gradualist. Roosevelt s Good neighbor policy was a non intervention policy that aims to promote good relationship with Latin America and solidify Latin American support through avoiding Military intervention of US to Latin America, but instead using a much more peaceful tone. This is important as it clearly shows that Roosevelt was not a staunch isolationist as the reason he want to maintain a good relationship with Latin is due to fear towards the conflict in Europe, so from this it could be seen that Roosevelt is actually preparing for intervention to war and is seeking for ways to gain more support and Latin American is one of it. In addition in August 1935, Roosevelt had also signed the Neutrality Act; a law that was designed to keep the United States out of a possible European war by banning shipment of war materiel to belligerents at the discretion of the President. This is important as despite aware of the rise of totalitarism, Roosevelt didn t challenger over the congress over on the neutrality act and was willing to follow his good neighbor policy for the purpose of avoiding USA entanglements in the 1930s as Americans had been frightened by the tragic of war as memories of the First world War were still ... This resulted in accurate data and the quadratic equations expressing the data, thus misrepresenting the trends. This systematic error could be reduced with closer placement of the light gate to the opening of the barrel, allowing the instrument to record more accurate results. 2.Errors in vertical displacement Since the projectile launcher was raised above a table top, school trays were used to raise the landing area and fulfil the requirements of uni level projectile motion. The height of the launcher was measured using a plastic ruler and then school trays were stacked on top of each other to try and make it uni level. There may have been small differences in the height of the launch site and landing site, thus not resulting in true uni level projection. Louisiana has already lost 1,880 square miles of land in the past eight decades. This problem is effecting the state funding to help solve the problem before the state lose more coastal land. In order to stop this situation, the state needs to have a stronger structural protection for the coastline (Wilson, 2013). • 9. Civil War Dbq Essay When the Civil War erupted at the attack on Fort Sumter in 1861, fighting was mainly driven by political tensions, all of which ultimately spawned from the question of slavery. During the Antebellum Period, the United States experienced a gradually intensifying sectional conflict that threatened the unity of the nation. Compromises between the North and South had become futile. Contrary to popular belief, the goals of Lincoln and the North did not involve the emancipation of slaves and restoration of equality and the opportunity of prosperity for all Americans. Most Northerners fought to preserve the newly split Union, while Southerners fought to protect what they believed to be inalienable states rights. Ultimately, precarious African American... Mao took over China and forced Chang to beat a hasty retreat to Taiwan Island. Then in l950, the world witnessed the fierce armed confrontation between Mao led China versus the United Nations forces with the full backing of United Statesduring the three year Korean War which eventually became a stalemate to this day. The Diary Of Anne Rodway And The Speckled Band Detective fiction is filled a wide array of characters and plotlines that can be analyzed for cultural significance and meaning within the literature. I chose to analyze The Diary of Anne Rodway and The Speckled Band because they were two very different styled stories in their narration, character development, and plot deliveries. Although they were had various dissimilar aspects, both portrayed women in a light that put them in an inferior position to men. Kayman describes the literature of female detectives in regards to their relationships, falling in love, and their ability to gain the trust of others rather than solving crimes through knowledge. This is evident as he says, Rather than the intellectual, it is, then, the actress whose presence one most feels in stories of lady detectives during the period: the figure who, with her capacity for disguise, pretense and deceit, embodies both the cultural stereotype of the promiscuous, mendacious, and hysterical woman (Kayman 52). While women are viewed with the finesse and the discrete ability to gain the confidence of others, Kayman never mentioned the success of women detectives nor their capabilities to solve crimes like the male detectives. He talked far more in depth on Sherlock Holmes and his unquestioned intellect showing the distinct discrepancy between the two gender portrayals. Kaymen uses Holmes as an example when he says, the ideal detective required not only the power of observation and that of deduction but also knowledge , and the pieces of obscure information with which he is constantly surprising us are often as decisive as any supposedly deductive rigour (50). The discrepancy seen between the two genders in Kayman s short story was a very influential aspect of my thinking on this matter because he shows that the women of this literary genre were not seen in the same respect as ... Sexual Identity And Gender Expression To conceptualise sexual identity and gender expression, Judith Butler (1990) proposes a poststructuralist perspective; that gendered behaviour (masculinity and femininity) is learned, a performative act, and that gender is constructed through a heterosexual matrix . She describes this as [A] hegemonic/epistemic model of gender intelligibility that assumes that for bodies to cohere and make sense there must be a stable sex expressed through a stable gender (masculine expresses discursive male, feminine expresses female) that is oppositionally and hierarchically defined through the compulsory practice of heterosexuality (Butler, 1990; 151). Reality, from the realist perspective, is seen to have a stratification of existence, which Bhaskar (date) outlines as the empirical , the actual and the real . The empirical is the experienced, a sub set of the actual; the things and events in their concrete historicity, and these are both a sub set of the real; the structures, the internal relations of the actual parts. Socially, realists distinguish the empirical reality of social life from the real objects whose causal powers effect social change through actual mechanisms. This ontological depth has bearing when exploring the sex gender relationship, where there are real anatomical sex differences, and empirically real gender differences. Rather than deterministic , sex categories are causal to result in a particular gender. One born to a particular anatomical sex tends to be a particular gender; the outcome is probable. That is because of the actual mechanisms, the cultural, religious, historical truths, that create a tendency between the real and the empirical . This is what Butler somewhat fails to portray: the influences of race, class, and time. Heteronormativity is the term coined to define the systemic and pervasive belief, structurally, socially and somewhat unconsciously, that heterosexuality is the normal and inevitable sexuality, it makes sense . • 14. Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Waste The purpose of a nuclear power plant is to produce electricity for supporting increases in consumption. Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) defines nuclear energy as the energy released by a nuclear reaction, especially by fission or fusion. In general terms, nuclear energy uses fuel made from mined and processed uranium to make steam and generate electricity (ENEC 2011). Nuclear powerplant currently producing electricity in the U.S include the Pressurized Water Reactor and the Boiling Water Reactor. To illustrate the importance of nuclear energy to the United States, 20% of our nation s electricity production comes from the 104 commercially operating reactors (Funk and Socacool 2012). However, security issues surrounding nuclear power lead to the U.S nuclear regulatory agencies imposing strict regulations on the production of nuclear energy. As a result, development and construction time of a nuclear power plant is a complex process. Before an applicant can start building a nuclear power plant, it must receive approval from the U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Previous regulations required that a nuclear power plant was licensed under a two step licensing process (NRC 2004). This former process required both a construction permit and an operating license (NRC 2004). In 1989, the NRC established an alternative licensing process which formed a joint license between the construction permit and an operating license (NRC 2004). Following approval from the U.S NRC ... In this essay, I will dive into the effects of this law, including the hidden obscurities that would have those effects tied to them. One effect would be the availability for teenagers to work. Being able to escape is needed in one s life, lest they wish to be trapped in their own regrets and shame. Escaping an abusive family is an absolute must, for the simple reason that is isn t ethical to force them to stay. Finally, teens enjoy hanging out with friends. One of these obstacles is ageism, and the perceptions that older women work less effectively than young women and men. The CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women) recognizes that women suffer ageism as one of many forms of discrimination (Begum, n.d. p. 1). For older women the stereotyped image is frail, doddering, wrinkled and slow both physically and mentally. Diversiton states that this is seen in greeting cards with phrases like over the hill and don t be an old fuddy duddy and jokes that are concerned with cognitive decline, death and lack of sexual interest. Emphasizing youthful appearance demeans being older. http://www.diversiton.com/Ageism/AgeDiversity.asp) Older men are seen differently. According to the blog Cougar Women, men have silver hair while women have gray hair and older men are considered distinguished

  • 40. Difference Between The Oud And The Oud The ancestor of the guitar, the oud, has not evolved into the guitar but only inspired its creation and together became two popular instruments used in various parts of the world. The guitar is mostly associated with western countries while the oud has been traditionally used in the Spanish and Arab countries. Classified as string instruments both the guitar and the oud have a few similarities. To be held and played in the same way their physical appearance resembles one another in terms of shape, materials and the use of strings to produce their acoustic sound. The wooden neck on both guitars allows one to play by plucking the strings attached and transmitting the energy from the strings vibration into the air producing sound. The ... The Oud is one of the oldest musical instruments known to man. However, the legacy of the Oud, unlike that of many other ancient traditions, continues till today. The earliest proof of the existence of an instrument like the Oud can be found in an excavated cylindrical seal from the Uruk Period in Mesopotamia, which dates back almost 5000 years. Since then, the Oud has been revered as the King of Instruments, telling the stories of its time through its melodious music. Even today, the beautiful sounds of the Oud have the power to transport the listener to another time. History is full of stories about the Oud. According to Abu Nasr Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Al Farabi, the 10th century Islamic scholar and philosopher, Lamech, the sixth grandson of Adam, invented the Oud. Legend has it that, overcome by grief at the death of his son, Lamech hung his body from a tree. The first ever Oud was thus inspired by the shape of the skeleton on the ... • 42. The New York Yankees, It Can Destroy Your Future The past should be left in the past, otherwise it can destroy your future. These are wonderful words which we should all strive to live by. But letting go of a regrettable past is difficult for even the strongest among us. For members of the 1960 New York Yankees, the World Series of that year is still the most disappointing memory any of them can recall. And while vivid mental pictures of a bad hop grounder hitting shortstop Tony Kubek in the throat, the Clemente chop, which landed between two undecided fielders and the unforgettable sight of Yogi, his back to the camera, watching helplessly as Bill Mazeroski s homerun sails over the left field wall, are all etched in the mind of everyone who witnessed these mind boggling... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many choices that were made have never been justified, leading to questions that have never been answered. Nevertheless, much of what went wrong in that seven game series for the New Yorkers can be chalked up to chance. However, in retrospect, it is quite evident that with sound decision making and fundamental baseball strategy, many of the unfortunate things that took place could have been avoided. The Yankees should have never been put in a such a position, their backs to the wall in a seventh game. The team was far too talented for that to have happened. And it is with the same staunch belief that I place much of the blame at the feet of manager Casey Stengel, not in a way to attack his character, but to question his astuteness as a team leader at that point in his career. Of all of the questionable choices he made in the 1960 Fall Classic, it was the use of his pitching staff for which Stengel is still most heavily criticized. His most questionable moves relate to the pitchers he selected as well as the timing and sequence in which he used them, the most glaring being his choice of starting pitcher for game one. Picking the game one starter is one of the most crucial decisions a World Series manager will make. The first game pitcher will not only set the tone for the remainder of the series, but should the series reach a seventh game, the number one starter in the rotation will be available to work games four and seven as well. And while Art Ditmar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Abortion Controversy Essays The Abortion Issue Introduction Abortion has been a very controversial subject over these past few decades. Every time you pick up a paper or magazine it seems there is always some protest regarding abortion, whether it be for fetal rights or women s rights. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica the definition of abortion is the expulsion of a fetus from the uterus before it has reached the stage of viability (in human beings, usually about the 20th week of gestation). An abortion may occur spontaneously, in which case it is also called a miscarriage, or it may be brought on purposefully, in which case it is often called an induced abortion. This paper will focus only on those abortions which are considered to be induced and will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their possibility for a promising future would not be lost due to the fact that they were missing a hand. Abortion, like ordinary killing, could be justified only by the most compelling reasons (Marquis, p. 400). The biggest problem with this issue is where to draw the line between severe and bearable pain and disability. What one person might consider not worth living with may be very different from another person s definition. What ends up happening is the development of a slippery slope between permissible and not permissible abortions based on disabilities. There will always be disagreements on which disabilities could be considered to have an impact on a person having a good future. Many people opposed to abortion rely on the fact that the fetus is a human being from the moment that they are conceived. At that moment a unique DNA is created and they argue that God places a human soul in that just fertilized Ovum (Robinson, p.1). This has seemed to be a continuing debate between both sides. Pro life activists disagree with the argument that a fetal life becomes a person only when electrical activity begins in the cerebral cortex. They argue that at the time of conception all major decisions as to what that fetus will become have been determined. For example, whether it will be male of female, what height it will be, what build it will be, and what colour it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Marriage Should Not Be A Sacred Thing Marriage used to be a sacred thing; once you married someone you spend the rest of your life with them. Even some places such as the Philippines and The Vatican City make divorce illegal. Here in America divorces are happening every single day. This social phenomenon is considered problematic. Almost 50% of all marriages end in divorce. When most people think of a divorce, they think of it ending in bad terms due to infidelity; but this is not always the case. It s important to understand what a divorce is, how it works, who it affects, the consequences, and the solution. Divorce has become way to common; we need to reestablish the sacredness of marriageand the importance of family. There are two types of divorces, a no fault and an at fault. No fault divorces mean that the person filing does not have to prove fault on their spouse. States still require a reason for divorces so the most common reasons are there are too many differences and the marriage is not repairable. An at fault divorce is most common and this is when a spouse is filing for divorce because of infidelity, abuse, prison confinement, and may more reasons where the other spouse is at fault and deteriorating the marriage. There are 5 different defenses against an at fault divorce; connivance, condonation, recrimination, provocation, and collusion. Connivance is defense to adultery, it suggests that the partner agreed to and/or participated in the infidelity. Condonation declares that the other spouse knew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
