Industrial Handbooks From The Nineteenth Century Essay
While exploring works clarified nineteenth century creating, I found a few researchers who flowed
books about the organization of nineteenth century growing, especially plant diaries, step by step
papers, flyers, and freebies. These creators often set the developing staying in contact with they
were considering into a recorded relationship by reviewing the fundamental occasions in
development of the year in which the composed work was scattered (see Demaree, for case).
Regardless, while these producers talk about diaries, consistently papers, freebees, and gifts, I
couldn t discover much exchange about another fundamental wellspring of creating learning:
creating handbooks. My objective in this paper is to bring this source into the plant creating
exchange by accomplice three agrarian handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth
century developing history. To satisfy this objective, I have sorted out my paper into four standard
regions, two of which have sub ranges. In the focal reach, I give a record of three fundamental
occasions in nineteenth century agrarian history: masses and creative changes, the scrambling of
astute new information, and creating s impact on get ready. In the second domain, I take a gander
at three nineteenth century creating handbooks concerning the crucial occasions depicted in the
central zone. I end my paper with a third parcel that offers research addresses that could be replied

Gender and Sexuality Stereotypes
Within Cosmopolitan Magazine Advertisements
Rebecca Mastine
Understanding Popular Culture
Tim MacNeil
December 15, 2010
Magazines have implicitly and explicitly been influencing humans for decades. They are
continually more involved in the media, however the market is highly competitive. It is extremely
important for magazines to maintain the readers interest and loyalty therefore they must excel in its
appearance and content. Helen Brown created the Cosmopolitan magazine in 1965. It holds a spot
as one of the most successful women s magazines of all time, and proceeds to be the number one
selling monthly magazine. (Ouellette, 360, 2005). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
279). Hasinoff reveals the sociobiological discourses in Cosmopolitan stress the work, planning and
consumer goods it takes to perform femininity by presenting these laborious techniques as strictly
adhering to a biological pre determined set of natural and ultimately unchangeable rules of gender
(Hasinoff, 280, 2009). Additionally, its sociobiological discourses insist on a self help rhetoric that
encourages women to solve their own problems but at the same time stresses the fact that
Cosmopolitan can tell them how (Hasinoff, 280, 2009).
Few researchers have explored sexuality in advertising across multiple countries or the factors that
may contribute to its content. Michelle Nelson and Hye Jin Paek examine the degrees of sexuality
in advertising within Cosmopolitan across seven countries (Brazil, China, France, India, South
Korea, Thailand and the U.S). Nelson and Paek s study discloses, even within a transnational
Western magazine, degrees of sexuality differ (2005, p. 371). More specifically their research
showed that cultural values and political/economic systems are related to degrees of sexuality
presented in advertisement and the presence of Western (nondomestic) models, sexual freedom
values, and a less authoritarian political culture

Genetic Testing Is Ethical Essay
One of the questions that has recently plagued me has been that of which is about the genetic
structuring of our offspring. I ask myself, will we able to choose the physical features our child?
If so, do we as a society think this will be an ethical practice? Perhaps, scientifically, this might be
entirely possible, but law will most likely restrict it. An article written by Frederic Golden helped
me draw some understanding on this hot topic.
Golden commences his article with a brief story of a mother and father who have been through
prenatal testing. They tested for Down syndrome and an inheritable neuromuscular disease. While it
was a straightforward procedure that was deemed valid by their doctor, Blue Cross (their insurance

submit to some prenatal screening. Usually this involves a blood sample of the mother s blood in
order to determine whether she is likely to have a child with spina bifida, neural tube defects, or
Down syndrome (Golden). United States genetic centers now offer DNA tests for over 30 or 40 of
the more commonly inherited disorders. Those including cystic fibrosis, susceptibility to breast
cancer, X syndrome, Huntington s disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and many other various
disorders (Golden). Also, with recent developments, couples are able to have a pre implantation
genetic diagnosis (PGD). This procedure allows the testing of genetic disorders before
germination. It consists of petri dish testing of sperm and egg cells donated by the soon to be
parents. This procedure prevents the idea of abortion, for if genetic problems occur, you are not
destroying a fetus, but simple flushing away embryo cells. Another article that I have recently
acquired has more to do with the ethical standpoint of genetic tailoring, than the scientific. In recent
years, a rather large sum of attention has been placed on whether or not the possibility of genetic
testing will harm our communities (Gooding).
The teaching of Bioethics often relies on difficult cases. Indeed sometimes the ethical dilemma is
developed by altering the details of the case that is otherwise intuitively straightforward,

What Is The Reflection Of The Private Life Of Henry Viii
The goal of The Private Life of Henry VIII was to show King Henry s life behind closed doors.
As king, Henry needed to put on a very masculine, tough, and stern image to protect his people,
but behind the scenes, he was a hopeless romantic searching for someone to rule with. He hides
his soft side from everyone in the kingdom, which the movie accurately shows. At first, the
movie portrays Henry in a negative light. He seems very evil: killing one wife and immediately
marrying the next. He is short with his courts people and comes off profoundly uncultured. At his
meals, he devours his food and throws the bones on the floor. He is constantly needing to be
cleaned up after and watched. Even though he shows this ignorant side to everyone else, he
secretly cares about his image and how he acts. He goes to get his beard trimmed and comes down
his hair before he talks to a woman he is interested in. When he talks to Catherine Howard, his fifth
wife, he knocks on the door before coming in. He talks sweetly to her and isn t short with her.
Although he portrayed this tough guy with the kingdom, he was a teddy bear at heart hoping for
love and affection. Henry didn t always want an everlasting love. Jane Seymours (his third wife),
life was hardly even shown. The movie showed when the maids were preparing the bed for their
wedding night and not much else. Henry had an appetite for sex and didn t really care about the
woman herself. He even makes a comment saying, If you

Life Is A Journey Essay
Somebody has rightly said Life is a journey and i completely agree with that person. In fact i
believe, life is merely not a single journey, it is indeed a combination of various small journeys
that teaches one or the other thing to a person and leave and ever lasting impact on his or her life.
Today in this article, i am going to talk about one such journey of mine, which was for few hours
but have left an everlasting impact on my mind forever. Delhi metroservices one of the best and the

buddhist temple reflection paper 2 1
My first experience in a Buddhist temple was quite different than anything I have experienced
religion wise. I visited the Quan Am Monastery (Vietnamese American Buddhist) at 3500 South
Goodlet. I got to experience first hand how meditation in a Buddhist temple actually works. I
was very intrigued to find out how someone outside of the Christian faith, worshipped. As one
might expect, the atmosphere was very tranquil. My group members and I called ahead a few
days earlier and a man answered the phone and it was very hard to understand what he saying but
I know I heard him say come on Friday so that s what we did. When we arrived we stepped
outside the vehicle we took a look around and there were two buildings outside. One that had...

While we were meditating he told us to count every breath that we make and if we start to think
of anything start back over at 1. So we closed our eyes and began to meditate. While we were
meditating things kept irritating my face, for example a string of hair, but the thing is before we
started meditating wasn t anything bothering me. Isn t that ironic? After a while it went away when
I stop thinking about it; I truly think it was a figment of my imagination. We meditated for at least
30 to 45 minutes. He hit the dung 3 times to let us know the meditation was ending. When I opened
my eyes I felt so calm and relaxed as if I had no worries in the world. It was so peaceful. The guy
who led meditation opened up the floor for questions, but I really didn t have any questions to
ask because I was so calm and I had already asked all the questions that I needed to know when
were outside. So we ended the question part and he let us take pictures. We went outside and put
our shoes back on and walked around to the back so he could explain the statues to us. He
allowed us to go inside the Vietnamese temple and take a look around and it was the biggest
temple I have ever seen. He told us about what goes inside there. The Buddhist people that speak
English go inside the temple that looks like a house and the ones that don t goes inside the big
one. We took pictures of the building looked around. They welcomed us to come back if we
wanted but I really had enjoyed myself.

America at D-Day Essay
AMERICA AT D DAY: A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE
I am very interested in World War II. So I choose a book that was written about the Normandy
Invasion. More commonly know as D Day or
Deliverance day. The title of the book is America at D Day. It was written by Richard Goldstein.
The book has 287 pages and also has 90 different pictures from the invasion of Normandy. The
reason the author wrote this book was to show exactly what happened at D Day.
The author starts off by describing the preparation for D Day in great detail. The code name given
to the Normandy Invasion was Operation
Overlord. It was planned mainly by General Dwight David Eisenhower.

The Americans were also going to drop their paratroopers behind the
German front lines on the Cherbourg Peninsula.
The American paratroopers were from the 82nd Airborne Division and from the 101st Airborne
Division. The paratroopers were to cut off any supply line to the front lines and prevent any
reinforcements from reaching the beaches of Normandy. The order was given on the night of June
5, 1944 to launch the paratroopers. The paratroopers were sent in first so that they could drop
under the cover of the night. The paratroopers were plagued with cloudy skies and some anti
aircraft fire. Some of the paratroopers were shot down while they dropped from the skies. Most of
the paratroopers that did survive the jump missed their intended drop zones. During the first hours
of the assault their was confusion among the soldiers, but then the troops started to form up into
small bands together and started to complete their missions.
The paratroopers mission was for the most part a success. They gained considerable ground and
destroyed vital supply lines for the Germans.
However, the assault on the beaches were plagued by a lot more problems. The major problem
was the choppy seas and the strong current. It made many of the allied forces land off of target.
Even though they landed off course they were still able come together. The Germans also put many
obstacles in the way of the landing crafts.

Comparing and Contrasting Persepolis and Funny Boy Essay...
As a child, we re presented with ample information that is all relatively new to us. The knowledge
acquired in childhood is given to us by our parents and relatives. This allows us to grow, but the
influence of our family is what shapes our culture and beliefs. Although our parents believe this is
the best culture to follow, we often find ourselves questioning it. This creates complexity within the
acceptance of being part of one s culture. Shyam Selvadurai and Marjane Satrapi, use this theme
within their respective novels, Funny Boyand Persepolis to demonstrate the transcendence from
innocence to experience. Both main characters are introduced as children that go through an

( p. 46, Shyam Selvadurai) This quote demonstrates a change in Arjie s perception. Moreover, the
fact that Selvadurai implicates this quote at the beginning of the chapter is symbolic. He does this
to symbolize a change in Arjie through the physical appearance of a supporting character.
Furthermore, Arjie is caught off guard which depicts how fictional his thoughts on reality are.
During the conclusion of the chapter Arjie s perception of love and beauty is revolutionized
through the love life of his Aunt. Arjie goes on to say ...I felt no pleasure, for I knew that,
although everything would happen in the way I had dreamed there would be something missing.
... I thought of the love comics and how fervently believed in them, believed that if two people
loved each other everything was possible. Now, I knew this was not so. (pp.99 100, Shyam
Selvadurai) This clearly indicates a change in perception in the young boys mind and this would
be one of the first steps in the transcendence of Arjie s character. Selvadurai effectively uses Radha
Auntie and many other supporting characters throughout the novel in order to aid the main
character evolve. Similar to Arjie, Marjie from Persepolis depicts evolution through the aid of
supporting characters. In this novel, Satrappi uses many characters to evolve Marjie s
understanding of the world. For example, at the beginning of the novel, Marjie is introduced to her
uncle Anoosh. He is branded as a communist under the Shaw s

The exposure to the radiation released will not only result in heightened risks for cancer in
populations, but may also result in other, non cancer related health problems such as thyroid
diseases, visual impairment, circulatory diseases, hereditary disorders and teratogenic defects
(developmental defects in fetuses). It is important that exposure to radiation be estimated so that
cancer risks can be estimated and appropriate responses and health measures can be implemented
by governments to deal with future development in health problems related to the release of
radiation from Fukushima. In 2013 the World Health Organization released its health risk
assessment for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear disaster concluding that for the general population
the lifetime risk for some cancers may be somewhat elevated above baseline rates for certain age
and sex groups that were in the areas most affected and that disease attributable to the disaster is
likely to remain below detectable levels. In 2012 Ten Hoeve and Jacobson provided the first
estimates of the health impact of the Fukushima nuclear accident, estimating an additional 15 to
1100 (most likely 130) cancer related mortalities for the general population. Both Sophisticated

Talented British helmer and former actress Amma Asante is deeply focused on the racial theme,

Ankle Sprains Research Paper
Ankle Sprains
A sprained ankle, also known as a twisted ankle or rolled ankle, is a common injury where sprain
occur on one or more ligaments of the ankle. Knowing the symptoms that can be experienced with a
sprain is important in determining that the injury is not really a break in the bone.
Symptoms
When a sprain occurs, blood vessels will leak fluid into the tissue that surrounds the joint. White
blood cells responsible for inflammation migrate to the area, and blood flow increases as well.
Along with this inflammation, swelling from the fluid and pain is experienced. The nerves in the
area become more sensitive when the injury is suffered, so pain is felt as throbbing and will worsen
if there is pressure placed on the area. Warmth and

Exchange of Information Between Sumer Egypt and India
Civilizations in the past developed many of their own characteristics and traits. New religions
were brought about, as well as cultural behavior. Inventions were created and practices were
discovered to help in daily life. People also fashioned ways to communicate with each other. As
these societies grew, they exchanged much of this knowledge with later civilizations. The people of
Sumer, Egypt, and India had individual beliefs on culture and religion, technology, and language;
they exchanged this knowledge with each other as their civilizations evolved. In the Land between

The Sumerians feared that humans had little control over daily life which is why they possessed
a strong polytheistic faith. They assumed that there were gods with humanlike emotions for
virtually every occurrence in nature. The sun was a god, as well as the moon and the stars; also,
the crops grew every season because a male god was mating with his goddess wife. The
Sumerian society was divided into four categories based on wealth and power. These were
nobles, free clients of the nobility, commoners, and slaves. Obviously, the nobility controlled the
most land and was the dominating force empowering the other members. The commoners were
free citizens who remained literate and without power, but were independent of the nobles.
Slaves may have been foreigners or prisoners of war who were subject to unfair treatment by
their owners, but were allowed to borrow money and engage in trade. Slaves often bought their
freedom. Since the Sumerians were among the first civilizations to show evidence of writing,
this era became known as the Protoliterate period. Their basic form of writing was referred to as
Cuneiform and consisted of pictograms that were formed by wedges pressed into wet clay. These
pictograms later grew into ideograms that depicted thoughts and ideas. For example, the sign for
star could also be used to indicate heaven, sky, or even

High School And Social Hierarchy
In high school, social hierarchy is typically determined by perceived popularity. Adolescents
experience many emotional, biological and cognitive changes during this time. Teenagers
struggle with their identity as social acceptance becomes an increasingly important factor in
their lives. Cliques are formed in high school as a representation of a small group of people with
common interests. Cliques are joined mostly by girls because it gives them a sense of security
and confidence they may otherwise lack, but boys are known to join cliques as well. Cliques
provide adolescents with a strong sense of self worth and can in fact help one grow as an
individual, sharing common interests and values. Adolescents who appear with high social power
tend to have similar qualities and group together. Those who are less popular tend to isolate
themselves more while befriending others with a similarly low social status. Often times, those
who are socially dominant are generally more influential, daring, physically attractive and socially
appropriate. (Closson 3) Cliques can foster community in a group of close knit individuals.
Different types of cliques provide adolescents with an opportunity to group together with those with
similar interests. They allow teenagers to satisfy their psychological needs such as gaining a sense
of belongingness and security. Although there are positive aspects of cliques, there is a correlation
between cliques and social pressure. Some cliquemembers deal

It is half as stiff as most steels though is half as dense making it 20% lighter than steel. For stiff
titanium frames it is required to have a larger diameter, than comparable steels, though not as
large as aluminum. The frame is also very corrosive resistant. With the addition of silicon the
alloy can obtain significant grain refinement and it can be said that titanium alloys have a perfect
balance of properties for frame building. Welding must be done carefully to avoid contamination
and machining must be done precisely. Titanium is very reactive to atmospheric gases and can
result in degradation in the material. Titanium is weldable in annealing conditions but provide
limited weld ductility and heat affected zone ductility. It can also be significantly strengthened by
cold working. Due to titanium being rather expensive it is rarely used for cycles. It is expensive
not only because of the material costs, but also because of the care and time that must be put into
the welding process. 7005 Aluminum Like the Reynolds X100, 7005 Aluminum is an aluminum

most likely to overtake steel as most popular material used for frame design. It is 12% stiffer and

Abigail Adams Thesis Statement
Abigail Adams played a very prestigious role in the history of the United States of America, as
she was the wife of John Adams, the 6th president of the United States. She also played an
important role in the society of women and their rights as residents of our country. But let s go
back to the beginning of her story the very beginning. It all began when Abigail was born on
November 11th, 1744, as the daughter of a minister. This was before she had the last name of
Adams; her maiden name was Abigail Smith. She grew up with her mother and father, Elizabeth
Smith and William QuincySmith, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. As a child, she was very sickly, so
her parents did not put her through formal schooling. Instead, they homeschooled her where they
taught her how to read and write. She grew to be a very open minded and well read young lady
who had a deep passion for books. When she turned 15, she met an older man by the name of John
Adams, who was 27. They were actually 3rd cousins, but they fell into a love so deep that they
decided to marry. They married on October 25th, 1764, when she was 19 and he was 30. This
brought the two into adulthood, into a life that required a lot more work and included several
bumps in throughout journey. By this time, they lived together, still in Massachusetts, but John s

Why Students Should Required Military Service
Students participating in the required military service will find a consecrated strong work ethic and
will fashion a new set of skills that will be required to be industrious in life. The prime focus of
remedial training is to produce quality students that will be ready for college. To be ready for the
future, all remedial training students will learn basic computer coding skills. Financial classes will
be taken by the students, and will cover topics such as credit scores, credit cards, student loans,
mortgages, investments and retirement. According to the Wall Street Journal, The rate of
household borrowing through car loans, student loans, credit cards, and other types of installment
debt other than mortgages increased in the U.S. in late 2011, which could indicate that consumers
are more willing to borrow or that households have financial stress (Mitchell). Learning how to
manage debit, while saving for retirement is a dexterity that needs to be taught to young adults.
Society will embrace financial training once installment and revolving debt rates start to decrease
while retirement accounts experience intensification in ending balances. Other important classes
that will be required, will include home economics, auto, wood and metal shop. Students will also
learn plumbing, masonry and electrical skills. Teaching students about solar power, while finding
alternative energy sources will restore the United States manufacturing by significantly lowering

An Outsider In Shakespeare s Othello
In Shakespeare s Othello, Othello s character is very out of place in Venice, however Othello is
able to overcome his differences with his talent as a leader and speaker. Many of the other
characters are racist towards Othello because he is an outsider. Othello s character overcomes the
prejudice of Venetian society because he possesses the qualities of a quintessential speaker and
leader. From the beginning of the play, it is clear that Othellois faced with challenge of proving
himself to his racist counterparts. It is clear that Othello is an outsider when the characters talk
down to him without even saying his name. He is referred to as the Moor (I.i.57), thick lips
(I.i.66), and Barbary horse (I.i.113). The racial names that are used show his character is an

Mistakes In Medical Field Essay
Jerald A. Eckman Making mistakes is what it means to be human. It is the way in which we
deal with this adversity that determines whether we will regress or prosper. I think of the
mistakes I have made in my life as opportunities to grow as a man and a young physician an
individual with the ability and desire to help others in need, especially during times in their life
when they may feel as though many of their decisions have been mistakes. When my medical
education began, I immediately knew this was a passion unlike any other I had ever had.
Unfortunately, my exuberance for becoming a physician was not initially met with academic

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP):
Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol are two distinct computer network protocols.
A protocol is an agreed upon set of procedures and rules. When two computers follow the same
protocols the same set of rules they can understand each other and exchange data. Transmission
Control Protocol and Internet Protocol are so commonly used together, however, that Transmission
Control Protocol and Internet Protocol has become standard terminology for referring to this suite
of protocols.
Transmission Control Protocol divides a message or file into packets that are transmitted through
the internet and then re assembled when they reach their destination. Internet Protocol is
responsible for the address of each packet so it is sent into the correct destination.
Advantages of (TCP) :
A network is just a bunch of computers with wires running between them. Properly implemented, a
network is a system that provides its clients with unique capabilities, above and beyond what the
individual machines and their software applications can provide.
Most of the benefits of networking can be divided into two generic categories connectivity and
sharing, and Hardware sharing, Internet Access, Internet Access Sharing, Data Security and

Remember the eccentrics of the earliest Panic! At The Disco videos? The steam punk infused

Hallelujah is Panic! At The Disco s only single to date that can t credit drummer Spencer Smith,

As a strategy to build an efficient team it is important to have a good leader and for each individual
team member to know what task he or she will take on. This is why communication is so important.
The team needs to be able to communicate with one another. To communicate issues, ideas,
thoughts and all other information that needs to be shared.
Challenges or Barriers
Some challenges or barriers that may happen with building teams are miscommunication,
jealously, members may feel as if another member is not completing his or her share of work,
and some members may not be used to working with a team. Miscommunication can lead to
many issues. If everyone in the team is not on the same page it will be hard for the team to meet
their goals and complete task. Jealously can also occur and cause a team member to not try as
hard to complete his or her share of work. If this happens the entire team will suffer. One of the
most common conflicts have been faced in working in teams is the fact that some team members
may not contribute as much as others. This can causes hurtles and may even cause groups to form
within the team causing separation. Another barrier that can arise is the fact that some team
members may not be used to working with others and may not be able to trust that his or her team
will complete their share of the task.

The Three Goddesses In The Trojan War
The Trojan War was ultimately caused by a petty conflict between three Goddesses Aphrodite,
Pallas Athena, and Hera. While attending a party they discovered a golden apple with the
words for the fairest carved in it. They all believed themselves to be the fairest, so to determine
who would get the apple they needed a judge. Their first choice was Zeus, but he wisely
declined, and instead, pointed them in the direction of Mount. Ida near Troy, where Prince Paris
an excellent judge of beauty was doing shepherd s work. The three went to Paris, but instead of
having him look at them to choose the prettiest, they all offered him a bribe and told him to
choose the Goddess who offered the best thing (248). Hera promised to make him an Emperor of
Europe and Asia. Athena said that he would lead the Trojans to victory against the Greeks.
Aphrodite promised him the love of the fairest mortal on Earth. Although it was not an easy
decision for him, Paris chose love and gave the golden apple to Aphrodite. This decision is what is
said to be the cause of the long and famous Trojan War(249).

The Medici Of Great Modern Art
The Medici could be regarded as the very first inveterate collectors of great modern art, with their
complicated emotions involved, such as their guilt, ambition of authority, and sexual lust. In the
end, the Medici did not only collect paintings and sculptures; they had changed the very nature
of art itself. Art had been transformed from serving Christianity to personal collecting purpose.
Francesco I de Medici s Studiolo could be marked as a sign of art as personal preference rather
than being used on other larger perspectives. Following up his father Cosimo de Medici s artistic
projects, Francesco has led them to an ultimate conclusion and a glorious beginning. According to
the name of Studiolo, we could infer that this is a place for collecting and displaying one s rare,
precious curiosities. The Studiolo was commissioned by Francesco I de Medici, who also known
as the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Being different from his ancestors, Francesco was only interested
in searching bizarre and fascinating art pieces for his own eyes. Francesco was obsessed
amassing exotic objects for his whole life. Thus, he has built himself a private chamber to store his
own collections. The death of the republicanism brought a turning point for the Medici in 1532. In
1564, when Francesco s father, Grand Duke Cosimo, the First handed over control of the
government to him, he became the prince regent. Though Francesco I de Medici has not played a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Autoinjectors
1. Introduction
Mass casualty situations are common with most of the natural disasters like earth quake, tsunami,
flood, avalanche, explosion, accidents, building collapse, military operations and terrorism. Injuries
and wound infections are very common in such disasters that need immediate management;
otherwise it may lead to morbidity and mortality. Medical management is very difficult at that
situation as the access to hospital sector would be either not possible or difficult. Autoinjectors are
very much useful in emergency situations as it can make self administration possible. It can be
used to deliver drug either by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. Autoinjector has got many
advantages. It delivers the drug fast and gives better bioavailability as it deliver the drug with a
spray effect during administration. It is convenient and since the needle is inside the vial itself, the
needle phobia can be avoided.

Slash and Burn
Slash and burn is the cutting down of trees and burning them before new seeds are sown so that
a particular piece of land can be cleared. This is a problem that has gone on since after the stone
age, this process makes the soil less fertile and its hard for more plants to grow and fruits and
vegetables we eat become harder to grow. The affected area will desertificate and nothing can

The Ethics Of Group Counseling
Ethics in Group Counseling According to the American Counseling Association (ACA, 2014)
Code of Ethics, ethical principles are based on a set of values that include autonomy,
nonmaleficence, beneficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity. These ethics apply to all types of
counseling, including both group and individual therapy; however, different aspects of these
ethical guidelines must be considered based on the therapeutic approach. This paper will identify
several of these ethical issues as they relate specifically to group counseling, while also evaluating
how these differences compare to ethical guidelines within an individual approach. Based on this
information, a final analysis will be provided on when therapists should choose group versus
individual for a client.
Identifying Ethical Issues in Group Counseling
According to the American Counseling Association (2014) Code of Ethics, ethical principles are
based on a set of values that include autonomy, nonmaleficence, beneficence, justice, fidelity, and
veracity. As an editor with International Journal of Group Psychotherapy, Virginia Brabender (2006)
further clarifies these principles as they relate to group therapy through focusing on four of these
values: beneficence, nonmaleficence, respect for autonomy, and fidelity.
Beneficence and Nonmaleficence Beneficence is a caregiver s responsibility to promote work that

How Political Parties Harm Democracy
Political parties exist in a democracy as a way for likeminded individuals to be united over a set
of shared beliefs. (Daniel) Political parties allow the members of the party to elect politicians to
government positions in order to advance their beliefs. (Hargrave) The political parties offer their
members strength in numbers, by uniting large numbers of individuals into a collective group;
they can select the best candidates to pursue their interests, as opposed to having thousands of
individuals running for office based on a very narrow spectrum of beliefs. (Daniel) While political
parties help organize the election process and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ways in which people vote have led to a situation where there are two political parties that
dominate the elections. This leads to an inability of the voters to choose the candidates of their
likings.
The existence of political parties has led to a situation in the United States that is inconsistent with
the intentions of a representational style of government that the country was formed on. The
existence of these political parties has taken much of the power and ability to control the
government away from the citizens. (Hargrave) The United States government is set up in a way
that allows the people to elect individuals that they see best fit for serving their needs and desires.
This is evident in the House of Representatives. In the House of Representatives, each
representative is elected by the people of his district. The citizens of each district vote on the
candidate that will best serve their needs once in Washington D.C. (Davidson) Although the
representatives are elected based on their promises to their constituencies, they face a great
challenge once in office, and that is the political party to which they belong. While serving in the
House of Representatives, the individual congressmen that are elected by the citizens of their
districts are expected to comply with the beliefs of the political party that they belong to. By

Human Justice And Its Impact On Society
With the life span of human nature, we as citizens of the global referendum of planet earth exhibit a
factor which promotes the evolution of human kind both physically and mentally. Sentenced by the
mandate of human justice and pure alienable intuition, we as humans of this earth are subjected to
treat one another fairly and equally. Due to the rise in human population, the density of
competition, and factors of genetic variation as well as chance, some individuals become affected
by outside forces and render themselves victims of disability. Some individuals become incapable
of walking, others incapable of writing, and others who sacrifice their lives for the freedom of
human growth, peace, and security for its citizens. With the ever increasing stature of domestic
growth, individuals affected by disabilities were left behind in the sense of not having proper
transportation, alienation when in search of jobs, and were viewed as weak incompetents of human
society. As the increasing struggle of freedom grew, the United Statesof America came to the
realization that individuals with disabilities were citizens with equal rights, and those citizens have
unique strengths that help stimulate innovation as well as work in the economy even though they
are presented with a disadvantage. With the Passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990

Puritan Values In A Break With Charity, By Ann Rinaldi
During today s trials, people are innocent until proven guilty. But long ago, during the Salem Witch
Trials, people were guilty until proven innocent. This was not the best system, and its flaws are
represented in the novel, A Break with Charity. Set in 17th century Massachusetts, A Break with
Charity by Ann Rinaldi depicts a young girl at her worst. Susanna English (the main character) lives
in SalemTown. The strict Puritan values in Salem leads a circle of girls to portray themselves as

Summary Of A Book From The Sky By Xu Bing
A book from the Sky (Tianshu) is an installation work by Xu Bing, first exhibited in 1988. It
consists of three hanging scrolls vertically draping across the ceiling, hovering over columns and
rows of books systematically arranged on the floor, surrounded by walls covered with similar
scrolls. The books, which are all equally spilt open and spaced out, mimic a wave like motion,
and the hanging scrolls in the ceiling appear to be delicately falling from the sky. At the front of
the installation, a book with its front page opened signals the name of the artwork, followed by a
couple other closed books, all over a short wooden block like table. Each hanging scrolland book is
filled with several small Chinese characters, a contrasting black ink on white paper, that Xu Bing
carefully printed using traditional Chinese wood blocking technique. To produce the columns of
text, the artist hand carved over a thousand individual character on blocks of wood, then arranged
them in a specific sequence before stamping them ink on paper. Since its first appearance, A book
from the Sky has been displayed in several locations around the world, with slight variation on the
arrangement of the elements (for instance, a forth hanging scroll may substitute the ones on the
wall). It is arguably one of Xu Bing s most significant artworks, and it focuses on visually exploring
the limitations of written language and the transformation of traditional practices to convey
postmodern ideas.

Effect of Stress on Beet Cells
The Effect of Temperature on Beet Cell Membranes Introduction In this lab, we are going to learn
how the stress of temperature affects fresh beets. We have come to learn that cell membranes
organize the chemical activities of cells. All cells are made of plasma membranes, often called
fluid mosaics. It is sometimes described as a mosaic because it is made of protein molecules that
are embedded into phospholipids. Phospholipids are the main structural support of the membrane
and the proteins perform most of the functions of a membrane. Together they form boundaries or
barriers between the cell itself and its surroundings, like the membrane of an egg. Plasma
membranes also control what substances come in and out and also dispose of the... Show more

In tube 3, the water was at 40. This is still warm but not the color was not nearly as intense as the
previous tube. The next tube charted was tube number 4. The beet was subjected to a
temperature of only 22В°c. That temperature I would chart as room temperature . I found that
the least amount of dye was leaked from the beet. For the cold methods I concluded that the
amount of betacyanin that escaped from the cell membrane was intense, like the hot treatment
results. I concluded that it didn t have to be hot temperature stress to release betacyanin. Tube
number 5 was placed into the refrigerator and the level of dye that permeated the water was
charted at a 6. Tube 6 was placed in the freezer and was documented at a level of color intensity
of a ten. Also, when the tube was pulled from the freezer the specimen has noticeably changed. It

I believe the result came out the way they did because of level of stress I put the beet through.
When damage is done to a cell membrane it affects the entire vegetable. When the beet was put in
such hot temperatures the cell membrane started to break down and leak the pigment through the
cell wall, since the cell is semi permeable. Like we spoke

The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century
The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal
welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural
theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should
hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas,
the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address
traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second,
to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28).
The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull
baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin
succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include ... Show more

Confederate Flag s Worth
Confederate Flag s Worth
Flags are familiar symbols and popular with all ages. A flags definition is usually rectangular
piece of fabric of distinctive design that is used as a symbol, as a signaling device, or as a
decoration. (Alle, pg. 127) Most people today consider the Confederate Flag to be racist but
others just see it as a way to say they are proud to be from the South. Have people actually
researched what they are saying or are they throwing out what they have heard others say? What
does the confederate flag really mean and why do people think it has to do with racism? I want to
inform people of the history of the Confederate flag, the real meaning behind it and that it is not
racist. It is a national flag and no matter what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is used in reenactments of the Civil War demonstrations such as the Stones River National
Battlefield.
The Confederate Flag s meaning can be viewed in many different ways, in fact it already is. The
flag has a lot of meaning behind it. Take the design for instance, a lot of the design portrays a lot
of the flags meaning. If you take away all the color of the flag and just look at what is left. There
are 13 stars on the flag; these stars represent the 13 original colonies for when the U.S first
began. Each one of these colonies had its own system of self government, until the start of the
northern aggression. When the northern states began trying to swipe authority over the southern
states which this was the main cause of the Civil War in 1861. The blue side ways X is actually
lying on top of the stars and the stars are shining though it. The blue X is lying on the stars
showing that the southern states no longer want to be a part of the Union. (Coski, page 20) So
basically, the flags message is to cross us out of the Union (us being the South). In my opinion,
the rumors made up about the Confederate Flag were most assuredly made by the Northerners to
get rid of the South s flag. I also feel the Southerners should stand strong in keeping their heritage
and legacy for their children. The Confederate Flag is something to be proud of as a Southern.
Racism is the poor treatment of or violence against people because of their race. (Alle,

The Right to Die Essay
Euthanasia is the act or practice of taking someone s life that has an incurable illness or injury or
assisted suicide. Benefits with assisted suicide are helping the terminally ill person to avoid
excruciating pain, it also help their loved ones who are dependent on to avoid extreme health care
cost, and health care cost can be spend on caring for and research for the future. If there are the
pros for euthanasia, there are also cons against euthanasia. Those who are against euthanasia are
mostly due to their religious beliefs or the fact that doctors will have the advantage to take
someone s life without giving the patient a chance to be cured from their illness. These pros and

The 9 Elements Of The Business Model Canvas
1.1 Business Model Definition Osterwalder (2010) once said that a business model would
explain the roots of how an organization works in order to create, deliver, and preserve its value.
Referred from a definition in dictionaries, the term business model can be under stood as the plan
implemented by a company to generate revenue and make a profit from operations. The model
includes the components and functions of the business, as well as the revenue it generates and the
expenses it incurs. (Investopedia, 2013) or the simplest of definitions All it really meant was how

However, some value propositions might be similar to the existing ones but they are added
some new property and characteristic in to a new product. (Osterwalder, A., Pigneur, Y.,2010)
Therefore, as an entrepreneur, we have to think that what value we can deliver to our target
customers? Which customer s problem that we can solve? What we can serve to fulfill customer
s wants? Which product or service we present to each customer segment? A value proposition
can build a customer value through the combination of many factors in order to serve the
customer s wants. It can be in term of quantity (such as price and speed of service) or quality
(such as design and experience that customer will perceive). Osterwalder (2010) mentioned some
factors of the value propositions such as novelty, efficacy, ability to serve a specific need of
customer, design, brand, accessibility, and ability to finish a job. Novelty Some value propositions
serve the new different needs that customer might not know before because they are not existed

example, cell phone could build a whole new market of wireless telecommunication industry. On the

Gatsby s Intense Journey For Love
Gatsby s Intense Journey For Love
Gatsby exemplifies an individual who can not always get what he or she yearns for. He possesses
more than millions of people have combined, yet is still not satisfied. There is only one thing that
Gatsby is destined to have, and that is Daisy Buchanan s unconditional love. Hence by the name,
she is married to another man: Tom Buchanan. The madness begins before Daisy gets married
when she shares a kiss of a lifetime with James Gatz. Gatsby allows himself to fall in love with
her, and from that moment on, all of his life decisions and daily problems are stimulated by Daisy,
and framed around her life. Some may consider Gatsby to be an extreme stalker or nutcase, but in

this would interest you. It wouldn t take up much of your time and you might pick up a nice bit

make it seem like he is doing Nick a friendly favor, when in fact he knows that Nick is Daisy s
cousin all along. Essentially, he assumes that if he can get closer to Nick, it will bring him even
closer to Daisy. Gatsby s absurd reasoning behind his illegal activity is solely due to his belief
that it is all for Daisy. He truly is not a bad person at heart, nor are his intentions to harm anyone.
He simply wants to be with Daisy and he is willing to do anything to make this dream a reality.
He needs this money so that Daisy can be just as in love with him as he is with her. He thinks
that if he is more wealthy and flamboyant, she will be amazed and come running back to him. He
is clearly determined to change himself, as he goes as far as risking his life, and being put behind
bars in order to reinvent himself. By the time he manages to become extremely wealthy, he returns
back to the real world to find that Daisy has already moved on. He does not accept the fact that
Daisy is no longer interested in him, which further infuriates him. His anger and frustration fuel his
passion to get back with her. Furthermore, Gatsby is so at the mercy of

Mortal Man Defeats the ferocious Minotaur
Theseus saves citizens of Crete from the Minotaur
Rashi Gupta
04.13.1370 B.C.
On Friday the 13th, 1370 B.C., the heroic Theseus went on a quest to find his father, Aegeus. Once
Theseus found his father,he heard about this barbarous beast, the Minotaur, half man, half bull, who
lived in Crete. Theseus bravely entered the Cretan Labyrinth and defeated the great Minotaur by
using only his bare hands.
Theseus is a youthful mortal who wanted only, but to know who his father is, so he inquired his
mother, Aethra. Aethra had responded saying that his father was Aegeus, king of Athens, but the
heart of Aethra truly belonged to the great Poseidon, god of the deep blue sea. Aethra bestowed a
sharp, deadly, cold sword and a pair of sandals upon Theseus and she said, Take them to him, and

The Methyl Red, Microbiology Laboratory Theory And...
The Methyl Red and Voges Proskauer broth is a combination medium that contains peptone,
glucose, and a phosphate buffer that produce proteins, fermentable carbohydrates, and a consistent
pH level (Leboffe, Microbiology Laboratory Theory and Application). The Methyl Red test uses
the Methyl Red and Voges Proskauer broth to determine if an organism produces stable or unstable
acid by performing a mixed acid fermentation of glucose. If an organism produces a stable acid, it
is positive for executing the mixed acid fermentation which then lowers the pH level in the broth to
4.4 and turns it red. Unstable acids convert to neutral products and the broth will stay yellow or
turn orange, both indicate a negative mixed acid fermentation (Leboffe, Microbiology Laboratory
Theory and Application). Two of the four bacteriaused had red broth indicating positive test results
for mixed acid fermentation with glucose, they were Escherichia coliand Proteus vulgaris, my
known bacteria. The other two bacteria, Alcaligenes faecalis and Enterobacter aerogenes, and
unknown bacteria D were negative for mixed acid fermentation. Based on these test results, my

Uk and Us Accounting Standards
In today s unpredictable stock markets, it is extremely important for investors to expand
investments to minimize risk and earn reasonable returns on funds. The diversification does not
have to be restricted to domestic companies because of opportunities available in foreign markets.
On the other hand, securities analysis becomes more complex because of supplementary variables
such as foreign exchange risk, political, economic, cultural diversities, etc. that need to be taken
into deliberation in making investment judgment. A significant variable in the analysis of foreign
securities is various accounting standards. The accounting standard of United States (US) and

In contrast the US structure is a fragment more complex than that of the UK. To understand
accounting standard setting in the US, one must start with the SEC (Securities and Exchange
Commission) which is a regulatory agency established in 1934 by the congress. Previous to this no
national system existed to govern the data flow of communication to investors. SEC has been
given the statutory power to promulgate accounting principles. Even though it consists of its own
policy, it does rely on the private sector in the US to establish financial reporting standards. Its role
of standard setting on financial reporting and accountancy principle guidelines is backed with its
powerful influence. Another standard setting board is the FSAB with its role to expand accounting
standards outside the profession by encouraging. As a result the main source for accounting
standards in the US internally is GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) which is
mounded by authority s pronouncement by the FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board).

The Armenian Genocide was genocide in Armenia that last from April 24, 1915 until 1922. By the
end of the genocide about 1.5 million Armenians were either deported or massacred in the Ottoman
Empire. The methods of execution were varied and they were brutal also. Some of them include
crucifixion, hanging, and marches. These marches would usually consist of those victims being
forced to walk through the desert and they would usually die of starvation and dehydration.
Officials would torment young children and tease them with food by eating it in front of them.

Bravo Media Network Analysis
As a life long member of Jack and Jill of America Inc, I am baffled (deleted words) as to why
anyone, especially NBCUniversal, a well known media company who describes itself as

wonderful organization. Bravo Media Network, is currently in the production phase of a new

American women who call Potomac, Maryland, home. This show was strategically devised to
display an insightful look into our beloved organization. Understanding Bravo Media s reputation
and the category of scandalous media and entertainment they tend to promote, we can conclude
that their intentions for this program will be neither inspiring nor empowering, as they claim. It
is likely that this production will not exemplify a positive outlook and direct representation of the
values of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. According to the NBCUniversal website (in the
Values section), they allege that when filming a television show, they aim to celebrate diverse
cultures and backgrounds by presenting positive role models, telling diverse success stories,

These creators often set the developing staying in contact with they were considering into a recorded relationship by reviewing the fundamental occasions in development of the year in which the composed work was scattered (see Demaree, for case). My objective in this paper is to bring this source into the plant creating exchange by accomplice three agrarian handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century developing history. To satisfy this objective, I have sorted out my paper into four standard regions, two of which have sub ranges. In the focal reach, I give a record of three fundamental occasions in nineteenth century agrarian history: masses and creative changes, the scrambling of astute new information, and creating s impact on get ready. In the second domain, I take a gander at three nineteenth century creating handbooks concerning the crucial occasions depicted in the central zone. The Reinforcement of Hegemonic Ideologies Gender and Sexuality Stereotypes Within Cosmopolitan Magazine Advertisements Rebecca Mastine Understanding Popular Culture Tim MacNeil December 15, 2010 Magazines have implicitly and explicitly been influencing humans for decades. They are continually more involved in the media, however the market is highly competitive. It is extremely important for magazines to maintain the readers interest and loyalty therefore they must excel in its appearance and content. Helen Brown created the Cosmopolitan magazine in 1965. It holds a spot as one of the most successful women s magazines of all time, and proceeds to be the number one selling monthly magazine. (Ouellette, 360, 2005). ... Hasinoff reveals the sociobiological discourses in Cosmopolitan stress the work, planning and consumer goods it takes to perform femininity by presenting these laborious techniques as strictly adhering to a biological pre determined set of natural and ultimately unchangeable rules of gender (Hasinoff, 280, 2009). Additionally, its sociobiological discourses insist on a self help rhetoric that encourages women to solve their own problems but at the same time stresses the fact that Cosmopolitan can tell them how (Hasinoff, 280, 2009). Few researchers have explored sexuality in advertising across multiple countries or the factors that may contribute to its content. Michelle Nelson and Hye Jin Paek examine the degrees of sexuality in advertising within Cosmopolitan across seven countries (Brazil, China, France, India, South Korea, Thailand and the U.S). Nelson and Paek s study discloses, even within a transnational Western magazine, degrees of sexuality differ (2005, p. 371). More specifically their research showed that cultural values and political/economic systems are related to degrees of sexuality presented in advertisement and the presence of Western (nondomestic) models, sexual freedom values, and a less authoritarian political culture ... • 4. Genetic Testing Is Ethical Essay One of the questions that has recently plagued me has been that of which is about the genetic structuring of our offspring. I ask myself, will we able to choose the physical features our child? If so, do we as a society think this will be an ethical practice? Perhaps, scientifically, this might be entirely possible, but law will most likely restrict it. An article written by Frederic Golden helped me draw some understanding on this hot topic. Golden commences his article with a brief story of a mother and father who have been through prenatal testing. They tested for Down syndrome and an inheritable neuromuscular disease. While it was a straightforward procedure that was deemed valid by their doctor, Blue Cross (their insurance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... submit to some prenatal screening. Usually this involves a blood sample of the mother s blood in order to determine whether she is likely to have a child with spina bifida, neural tube defects, or Down syndrome (Golden). United States genetic centers now offer DNA tests for over 30 or 40 of the more commonly inherited disorders. Those including cystic fibrosis, susceptibility to breast cancer, X syndrome, Huntington s disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and many other various disorders (Golden). Also, with recent developments, couples are able to have a pre implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). This procedure allows the testing of genetic disorders before germination. It consists of petri dish testing of sperm and egg cells donated by the soon to be parents. This procedure prevents the idea of abortion, for if genetic problems occur, you are not destroying a fetus, but simple flushing away embryo cells. Another article that I have recently acquired has more to do with the ethical standpoint of genetic tailoring, than the scientific. In recent years, a rather large sum of attention has been placed on whether or not the possibility of genetic testing will harm our communities (Gooding). The teaching of Bioethics often relies on difficult cases. Indeed sometimes the ethical dilemma is developed by altering the details of the case that is otherwise intuitively straightforward, ... • 5. What Is The Reflection Of The Private Life Of Henry Viii The goal of The Private Life of Henry VIII was to show King Henry s life behind closed doors. As king, Henry needed to put on a very masculine, tough, and stern image to protect his people, but behind the scenes, he was a hopeless romantic searching for someone to rule with. He hides his soft side from everyone in the kingdom, which the movie accurately shows. At first, the movie portrays Henry in a negative light. He seems very evil: killing one wife and immediately marrying the next. He is short with his courts people and comes off profoundly uncultured. At his meals, he devours his food and throws the bones on the floor. He is constantly needing to be cleaned up after and watched. Even though he shows this ignorant side to everyone else, he secretly cares about his image and how he acts. He goes to get his beard trimmed and comes down his hair before he talks to a woman he is interested in. When he talks to Catherine Howard, his fifth wife, he knocks on the door before coming in. He talks sweetly to her and isn t short with her. Although he portrayed this tough guy with the kingdom, he was a teddy bear at heart hoping for love and affection. Henry didn t always want an everlasting love. Jane Seymours (his third wife), life was hardly even shown. The movie showed when the maids were preparing the bed for their wedding night and not much else. Henry had an appetite for sex and didn t really care about the woman herself. • 7. buddhist temple reflection paper 2 1 My first experience in a Buddhist temple was quite different than anything I have experienced religion wise. I visited the Quan Am Monastery (Vietnamese American Buddhist) at 3500 South Goodlet. I got to experience first hand how meditation in a Buddhist temple actually works. I was very intrigued to find out how someone outside of the Christian faith, worshipped. As one might expect, the atmosphere was very tranquil. My group members and I called ahead a few days earlier and a man answered the phone and it was very hard to understand what he saying but I know I heard him say come on Friday so that s what we did. After a while it went away when I stop thinking about it; I truly think it was a figment of my imagination. We meditated for at least 30 to 45 minutes. He hit the dung 3 times to let us know the meditation was ending. When I opened my eyes I felt so calm and relaxed as if I had no worries in the world. It was so peaceful. The guy who led meditation opened up the floor for questions, but I really didn t have any questions to ask because I was so calm and I had already asked all the questions that I needed to know when were outside. So we ended the question part and he let us take pictures. We went outside and put our shoes back on and walked around to the back so he could explain the statues to us. He allowed us to go inside the Vietnamese temple and take a look around and it was the biggest temple I have ever seen. He told us about what goes inside there. More commonly know as D Day or Deliverance day. The title of the book is America at D Day. It was written by Richard Goldstein. The book has 287 pages and also has 90 different pictures from the invasion of Normandy. The reason the author wrote this book was to show exactly what happened at D Day. The author starts off by describing the preparation for D Day in great detail. The code name given to the Normandy Invasion was Operation Overlord. The Americans were also going to drop their paratroopers behind the German front lines on the Cherbourg Peninsula. The American paratroopers were from the 82nd Airborne Division and from the 101st Airborne Division. The paratroopers were to cut off any supply line to the front lines and prevent any reinforcements from reaching the beaches of Normandy. The order was given on the night of June 5, 1944 to launch the paratroopers. The paratroopers were sent in first so that they could drop under the cover of the night. The paratroopers were plagued with cloudy skies and some anti aircraft fire. Some of the paratroopers were shot down while they dropped from the skies. Most of the paratroopers that did survive the jump missed their intended drop zones. During the first hours of the assault their was confusion among the soldiers, but then the troops started to form up into small bands together and started to complete their missions. The paratroopers mission was for the most part a success. They gained considerable ground and destroyed vital supply lines for the Germans. However, the assault on the beaches were plagued by a lot more problems. The major problem was the choppy seas and the strong current. It made many of the allied forces land off of target. Even though they landed off course they were still able come together. The Germans also put many obstacles in the way of the landing crafts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The knowledge acquired in childhood is given to us by our parents and relatives. This allows us to grow, but the influence of our family is what shapes our culture and beliefs. Although our parents believe this is the best culture to follow, we often find ourselves questioning it. This creates complexity within the acceptance of being part of one s culture. ( p. 46, Shyam Selvadurai) This quote demonstrates a change in Arjie s perception. Moreover, the fact that Selvadurai implicates this quote at the beginning of the chapter is symbolic. He does this to symbolize a change in Arjie through the physical appearance of a supporting character. Furthermore, Arjie is caught off guard which depicts how fictional his thoughts on reality are. During the conclusion of the chapter Arjie s perception of love and beauty is revolutionized through the love life of his Aunt. Arjie goes on to say ...I felt no pleasure, for I knew that, although everything would happen in the way I had dreamed there would be something missing. ... I thought of the love comics and how fervently believed in them, believed that if two people loved each other everything was possible. Now, I knew this was not so. Similar to Arjie, Marjie from Persepolis depicts evolution through the aid of supporting characters. In this novel, Satrappi uses many characters to evolve Marjie s understanding of the world. The exposure to the radiation released will not only result in heightened risks for cancer in populations, but may also result in other, non cancer related health problems such as thyroid diseases, visual impairment, circulatory diseases, hereditary disorders and teratogenic defects (developmental defects in fetuses). It is important that exposure to radiation be estimated so that cancer risks can be estimated and appropriate responses and health measures can be implemented by governments to deal with future development in health problems related to the release of radiation from Fukushima. In 2013 the World Health Organization released its health risk assessment for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear disaster concluding that for the general population the lifetime risk for some cancers may be somewhat elevated above baseline rates for certain age and sex groups that were in the areas most affected and that disease attributable to the disaster is likely to remain below detectable levels. Knowing the symptoms that can be experienced with a sprain is important in determining that the injury is not really a break in the bone. Symptoms When a sprain occurs, blood vessels will leak fluid into the tissue that surrounds the joint. White blood cells responsible for inflammation migrate to the area, and blood flow increases as well. Along with this inflammation, swelling from the fluid and pain is experienced. The nerves in the area become more sensitive when the injury is suffered, so pain is felt as throbbing and will worsen if there is pressure placed on the area. Warmth and ... As these societies grew, they exchanged much of this knowledge with later civilizations. The Sumerians feared that humans had little control over daily life which is why they possessed a strong polytheistic faith. They assumed that there were gods with humanlike emotions for virtually every occurrence in nature. The sun was a god, as well as the moon and the stars; also, the crops grew every season because a male god was mating with his goddess wife. The Sumerian society was divided into four categories based on wealth and power. These were nobles, free clients of the nobility, commoners, and slaves. Obviously, the nobility controlled the most land and was the dominating force empowering the other members. The commoners were free citizens who remained literate and without power, but were independent of the nobles. Slaves may have been foreigners or prisoners of war who were subject to unfair treatment by their owners, but were allowed to borrow money and engage in trade. Slaves often bought their freedom. Since the Sumerians were among the first civilizations to show evidence of writing, this era became known as the Protoliterate period. Their basic form of writing was referred to as Cuneiform and consisted of pictograms that were formed by wedges pressed into wet clay. • 14. High School And Social Hierarchy In high school, social hierarchy is typically determined by perceived popularity. Adolescents experience many emotional, biological and cognitive changes during this time. Teenagers struggle with their identity as social acceptance becomes an increasingly important factor in their lives. Cliques are formed in high school as a representation of a small group of people with common interests. Cliques are joined mostly by girls because it gives them a sense of security and confidence they may otherwise lack, but boys are known to join cliques as well. Cliques provide adolescents with a strong sense of self worth and can in fact help one grow as an individual, sharing common interests and values. Adolescents who appear with high social power tend to have similar qualities and group together. Those who are less popular tend to isolate themselves more while befriending others with a similarly low social status. Often times, those who are socially dominant are generally more influential, daring, physically attractive and socially appropriate. (Closson 3) Cliques can foster community in a group of close knit individuals. Different types of cliques provide adolescents with an opportunity to group together with those with similar interests. They allow teenagers to satisfy their psychological needs such as gaining a sense of belongingness and security. For stiff titanium frames it is required to have a larger diameter, than comparable steels, though not as large as aluminum. The frame is also very corrosive resistant. With the addition of silicon the alloy can obtain significant grain refinement and it can be said that titanium alloys have a perfect balance of properties for frame building. Welding must be done carefully to avoid contamination and machining must be done precisely. Titanium is very reactive to atmospheric gases and can result in degradation in the material. Titanium is weldable in annealing conditions but provide limited weld ductility and heat affected zone ductility. It can also be significantly strengthened by cold working. Due to titanium being rather expensive it is rarely used for cycles. It is expensive not only because of the material costs, but also because of the care and time that must be put into the welding process. 7005 Aluminum Like the Reynolds X100, 7005 Aluminum is an aluminum alloy but consisting of Zinc and Magnesium. Human Justice And Its Impact On Society With the life span of human nature, we as citizens of the global referendum of planet earth exhibit a factor which promotes the evolution of human kind both physically and mentally. Sentenced by the mandate of human justice and pure alienable intuition, we as humans of this earth are subjected to treat one another fairly and equally. Due to the rise in human population, the density of competition, and factors of genetic variation as well as chance, some individuals become affected by outside forces and render themselves victims of disability. Some individuals become incapable of walking, others incapable of writing, and others who sacrifice their lives for the freedom of human growth, peace, and security for its citizens. With the ever increasing stature of domestic growth, individuals affected by disabilities were left behind in the sense of not having proper transportation, alienation when in search of jobs, and were viewed as weak incompetents of human society. As the increasing struggle of freedom grew, the United Statesof America came to the realization that individuals with disabilities were citizens with equal rights, and those citizens have unique strengths that help stimulate innovation as well as work in the economy even though they are presented with a disadvantage. With the Passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 , individuals affected with a disability were given civil rights protections to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, ... But long ago, during the Salem Witch Trials, people were guilty until proven innocent. This was not the best system, and its flaws are represented in the novel, A Break with Charity. Set in 17th century Massachusetts, A Break with Charity by Ann Rinaldi depicts a young girl at her worst. Susanna English (the main character) lives in SalemTown. The strict Puritan values in Salem leads a circle of girls to portray themselves as haunted by witches, causing chaos for themselves, Susanna, and Tituba. • 38. Summary Of A Book From The Sky By Xu Bing A book from the Sky (Tianshu) is an installation work by Xu Bing, first exhibited in 1988. It consists of three hanging scrolls vertically draping across the ceiling, hovering over columns and rows of books systematically arranged on the floor, surrounded by walls covered with similar scrolls. The books, which are all equally spilt open and spaced out, mimic a wave like motion, and the hanging scrolls in the ceiling appear to be delicately falling from the sky. At the front of the installation, a book with its front page opened signals the name of the artwork, followed by a couple other closed books, all over a short wooden block like table. Each hanging scrolland book is filled with several small Chinese characters, a contrasting black ink on white paper, that Xu Bing carefully printed using traditional Chinese wood blocking technique. To produce the columns of text, the artist hand carved over a thousand individual character on blocks of wood, then arranged them in a specific sequence before stamping them ink on paper. Since its first appearance, A book from the Sky has been displayed in several locations around the world, with slight variation on the arrangement of the elements (for instance, a forth hanging scroll may substitute the ones on the wall). It is arguably one of Xu Bing s most significant artworks, and it focuses on visually exploring the limitations of written language and the transformation of traditional practices to convey postmodern ideas. We have come to learn that cell membranes organize the chemical activities of cells. All cells are made of plasma membranes, often called fluid mosaics. It is sometimes described as a mosaic because it is made of protein molecules that are embedded into phospholipids. Phospholipids are the main structural support of the membrane and the proteins perform most of the functions of a membrane. Together they form boundaries or barriers between the cell itself and its surroundings, like the membrane of an egg. That temperature I would chart as room temperature . I found that the least amount of dye was leaked from the beet. For the cold methods I concluded that the amount of betacyanin that escaped from the cell membrane was intense, like the hot treatment results. I concluded that it didn t have to be hot temperature stress to release betacyanin. Tube number 5 was placed into the refrigerator and the level of dye that permeated the water was charted at a 6. Tube 6 was placed in the freezer and was documented at a level of color intensity of a ten. Also, when the tube was pulled from the freezer the specimen has noticeably changed. It has a slight white, almost white frost or texture to it. Please see attachment and table below. • 40. The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas, the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28). The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort.
