C Gattii Research Paper
There is a risk of C. gattii in tropical areas and the Pacific Northwest. There are many factors that
contribute to this risk. How it is transmitted, environmental causes, locations of infection, and
prevention. It is important to understand the risk before traveling so you don t become infected. To
learn more about this risk we will look at areas in which the fungi exists, who s susceptible, and how
to keep from getting sick. Cryptococcus gattii is a fungus that lives in the soil associated with certain
trees and causes the infection C. gattii Cryptococcus s. In mild climates, the fungus survives in soil
and grows in tree bark. Douglas firs carry the fungus. The fungus occurs in the top 15cm of the soil,
on trees, wood chips, mulch, and other natural reservoirs. Fungus spores are aerosolized through soil
disturbance. (https://www.emlab.com/s/sampling/env report 03 2012.html) The microscopic fungus C.
gattii can infect people after breathing it in from the environment. Cryptococcus s affects the lungs or
the central nervous system; mainly the brain and spinal cord. When the brain is infected they call it
cryptococcal meningitis. Both humans and animals can become infected after inhaling airborne, dried

How Did The Aztecs Impact Mesoamerican Civilization
Another system the Aztecs created were dike, which was a technique to separate the salt water from
Lake Texcoco from mixing with the fresh water. The dike also served as another purpose; it created a
barrier around Tenochtitlan (Outer walls in figure 2) to keep intruders out and also had gates that
could be open to help even the water levels out after flooding. Another hydraulic engineering
accomplishment was the canals that were created while forming Tenochtitlan (figure 2). These canals
were used to get in and out of the city. The Aztecs created causeways that allowed them to get in and
out of the city to retrieve food and allowed merchants to enter the city. These techniques that the
Aztecs used in order to manipulate the water, overcome frequent flooding that can cause disasters, and
build their empire is a testament to their intelligence. This was not the only area of intelligence that the
Aztecs had achieved; they were avid astrologers and believed in this subject religiously. Astrology?:
Like the Aztecs predecessors, the practice of astrology was significantly important in their civilization.
There were four calendars that impacted Mesoamerican society: the solar calendar, sacred round,
calendar round, and the long count calendar, these four calendars contributed to the way the society
operated based on science and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Inclination of Today’s Youths Towards Self-Harm
Many teenagers are suffering a hidden pain in the privacy of their homes. They secretly cut, burn,
scratch, pull hair, and bruise their bodies. The psychosis is termed non suicidal self injury
(NSSI).Teenagers are feeling pressures from typical insecurities of low self esteem, body image,
fashion trends, bullying, pressures from friends, and family issues. As a result, teens are turning to the
internet for strategies of how to deal with the pressures of life, making this topic more of a public
enigma, than a private suffering issue. NSSI is a growing phenomenon and parents and psychologists
should advocate safe internet sites, and force social media outlets to provide links for teens to access
healthier ways to manage their emotions.
NSSI behavior is on the rise and is more prevalent among our youth today; due to images, other teens
upload on the internet. Today many teens are accessing self harm images and content on the World
Wide Web, through YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. The images are of the cuts and burns that
others have inflicted on themselves, while others are of diagrams depicting where to cut, that parents
and teachers will not notice. Some teens will use self injury to try to relieve their feelings of anxiety
and pressures they are feeling in their lives. According to Caitlin Dewey, in an article from The
Washington Post, an issue with internet sites is that they promote the activity as normal and healthy,
therefore encouraging teens to continue injuring

The Red Queen s character is seen as an antagonist, the opposing force to Alice s adventures. Upon
their first encounter in this story the queen explains the rules of her kingdom as like the rules of a
game of chess, as a story and game of advancement and promotion. Alice is like a pawn piece and can
move up the board in such a way that she too can become the queen, like as in chess the queen can
move effortlessly in whatever manner she likes. The queen perturbs Alice into an endless run with
Alice having no real direction of where she is heading and meeting other strange characters along the
way which develops her idea of the impossible being possible. Elizabeth Pearce, a curator and writer
for MONA states; the Red Queen exhibition asks us to consider whether doing something without a
seeming purpose is the product of us, or whether it actually contributes to changing us. (The Red
Queen arrives at MONA 2013) This exhibition, takes us into the realms of the science behind the
theme. The evolutionary concept that in the earlier 20thcentury scientist s believed there was an end
point, a goal to the evolutionary process. A parallel story of Alice put forth this idea when the Red
Queen tells Alice: Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. (

Lithium Research Paper
Lithium is the third element on the periodic table and is known as the lightest metal, and is half as
dense as water. It is a part of the Alkali metals, meaning it is in the first group on the periodic table.
Lithium is normally not found in nature, due to the fact that it has a very unstable nucleus. The name
Lithium is derived from the Greek word lithos, which means stone . This name was likely given to
Lithium due to the fact that it was discovered in the mineral petalite (LiAl(Si2O5)2) by Johann August
Arfvedson in 1817. It was later isolated through the form of electrolysis of lithium oxide by William
Thomas Brande. Lithium is made of two stable isotopes, with Lithium 6 containing 3 neutrons and
accounting 7.59% of the natural abundance of lithium, and Lithium 7 containing 4 neutrons and
accounting for 92.41% of lithium s natural abundance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One typically thinks of batteries when they think of lithium, as they are heavily involved in the
process of making rechargeable, storage, and dry batteries. Lithium alloys can also be formed when
combined with elements such as copper, aluminium, cadmium, and manganese in order to help create
light parts for aircraft. It is also added to glass in order to make it lighter and stronger as well. Lithium
is also used in the treatment of bipolar disorder, and because of this, has become the inspiration for
two songs, both named Lithium, by the bands Nirvana and Evanescence. When mixed with hydroxide,
Lithium hydroxide is used to absorb the carbon dioxide found in space vehicles. Because it produces a

The United States Senate voted eighty two to six to go to war against Germany. World War I started in
1914. President Woodrow Wilson was a fan of French and English history, but he still signed a pledge,
that stated America s neutrality. American corporations were already selling military weapons to both
sides of the war. Sadly, President Wilson did not take action against this. At this point in time, America
and Great Britain were the best of trading partners. Germany was not happy with his arrangement.
Germany quickly surrounded Great Britain. Germany sunk and shot down many of America s ships.

Introduction Of The Book Of Exodus And The Judge s Cycle
Alejandra Morales

Introduction to Jewish Traditions
Dr. Haus
Analytical Essay In religions such as Christianity, Islam and Buddhism, redemption holds various
interpretations. Yet, for the Jews, redemption is mainly about God redeeming them from various exiles
and slavery. Redemption is prevalent throughout Hebrew Traditions and highlights the tensions that
arise between human and divine powers such as in the Book of Exodus and the Judge s Cycle which
demonstrates the eternal aspect of the covenant and renders God as the only determinant of salvation
for humanity. Analyzing the initial concept of redemption in the Book of Exodus and understanding
the cycle in which redemption is attained authenticates God s power as a redeemer and the eternality
of redemption to those who repent and aim to fulfill the covenant. The Book of Exodus exhibits the
essence of obligation and responsibility as the foundation for the perpetual relationship between God
and his people, outlining God as the redeemer and his people as the observers of the covenant. During
the Jewish Exile in Egypt , God establishes himself as the redeemer of the Israelites which validates
his commitment to the covenant and the Jewish people reciprocate by accepting the Torah. You have
seen what I did to the Egyptians, how I bore you on eagles wings and brought you to Me. Now then, if
you will obey Me faithfully and keep My covenant, you shall be My treasured possession among all

The Global Pursuit Of Economic Development Since The End...
In Global Political Economy, Chapter 11 discusses the global pursuit of economic development since
the end of the Second World War (219). In a nutshell, this analysis involves the account and summary
of some of the information that has been previously presented in earlier chapters of this book. Mainly,
the process of industrialization in Great Britain as well as the United States is noted in the introduction
to the chapter.
Afterwards, the authors proceed to define the term development using quotes and statements from a
few other authors. But, the central idea of development, no matter how the definition may be worded,
takes into account the themes of process and condition, or the change of condition. In addition, when
regarding the immediate era after the war, development relied on economic growth of a country
measured by its Gross National Product (GNP) (221). The Gross National Product, according to
Encyclopedia Britannica, is the total market value of the final goods and services produced by a nation
s economy during a specific period of time (usually a year), computed before allowance is made for
the depreciation or consumption of capital used in the process of production (Encyclopedia
Britannica).
The timeline of development for countries worldwide after WWII is then clarified. Many nations were
considered underdeveloped , backward , or most commonly Third World . Eventually, countries in the
southern hemisphere became known as the Global South , identifying

Beasts Of The Southern Wild Analysis
Stories, in general, are immortal. As long as someone keeps telling them. In Beasts of the Southern
Wild, Hushpuppy draws stories on cardboard for people to see. She basically makes hieroglyphics for
future generations to see her stories. Hushpuppy and Wink s love for each is immortal because Wink
never stopped loving Hushpuppy even when he died, and Hushpuppy continues to express her love for
Wink through her stories. Aurochs in the story symbolize immortality because it was shown they have
been trapped in glaciers for millions of years and survived. Hushpuppy wants to be remembered, in a

The faun is a unique character because it somehow reverses its age to appear younger. A minor detail
of the story is the broken watch from vidal s late father. The broken watch indicates time has stop,
which somewhat symbolizes an immortality. The rose story tells the tale of receiving immortality. A
passage from the tale is A long time ago in a grey sad country, there was a magic rose that made
whoever plucked it, immortal. In Life of Pi, Pi encounters many immortal elements. Pi s name itself is
immortal because it also stands for the mathematical constant of Pi; which is never ending or infinite.
He also follows three religions, and religion itself is immortal because of the content of each religion

able to achieve immortality. His tale is another way to have his deceased family live on through
storytelling. Richard Parker s life lives on through Pi because in the original story, it was discovered

Research Methodology And The Execution Of Slr
2. Research Method
This section provides an overview research method i.e. systematic literature review (SLR) used in
thesis research; it describes the research methodology, the design and the execution of SLR.
2.1 Overview of Systematic Literature Review
This section of chapter was to thoroughly define and go through systematic literature review research
method.
2.1.1 Definition
Kitchenham and Charters (2007) proposed that systematic literature review has been a widespread
research methodology since 1990s, but it was initiated by medical research where number of well
documented standards has evidently showed its use. While, since the year 2004, systematic reviews
are also performed by many software engineering researchers and number of important engineering
conferences also seek submissions in this research category. In addition to this many popular journals
and magazines have distinct section for papers, which are also based on this research methodology.
(Kitchenham Charters, 2007)
According to Kitchenham,
A systematic literature review (often referred to as a systematic review) is a means of identifying,
evaluating and interpreting all available research relevant to a particular research question, or topic
area, or phenomenon of interest (p.8).
The fundamental study of the systematic literature review is known as primary studies, and the
systematic literature itself is known as a form of secondary study.

Save Our Whales: End Whale Hunting
April 7, 2011
Save our Whales, End Whale Hunting
Whales, often called the Ocean s gentle giant are one of the biggest species/mammals that spend their
entire life in the ocean. The smallest known whale is the Minke which, by adulthood is only 8.5 feet
long; the largest known whale is the Blue whale , which measures 94.5 feet long. Since the ancient
times, people have written about encounters with this mammal. Ancient Roman and Greek artists
inspired by the dolphin s apparent intelligence and kindness to humans began to adopt dolphin motifs
on vases, coins, mosaics, sculptures, and paintings. Even Arstotle (384 322 bc) spoke about a variety
of different whales and identified them as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This might seem like a large population; compared to prior figures their population did not
significantly increase. What little increase that was found, was/is thought to be due to overlapping , or
rather recounting whales. Researchers believe that many of these whales interact with different
stocks/groups (NAMMCO, 1995). These are not the only whales to pay the price; since the beginning
of commercial whaling over one million sperm whales, two hundred and fifty thousand humpbacks,
and two million other whales have been killed for profit. Are times changing? Records dating back to
the 1931 1932 whale hunting season (ten years before the International Whaling Commission was put
in place to protect and stop whaling), 28,325 blue whales were slaughtered. In 1946, the Whaling
Commission was formed; however, even with protection, thirty years later (1963 1964) over 29,255
sperms kills were hunted for their meat and other products. Today, even with protection, it is estimated
that only 5 10% of the original whale population remains (Carwardine, Hoyt, Fordyce, Gill, 1998).
Explosive Harpoons The use of harpoons to kill whales is not new; however, in 1986 Japan started
using explosive harpoons, or as the Japan refer to it harpoon grenades (Leake Ryall, 2006). This
harpoon is designed to go through the skin of whale and explode into pieces. The theory behind this
harpoon is that it will hit vital organs,

The Hughes Aircraft Case
Introduction
Repeatedly in the history of engineering have engineers been faced with the dilemma of deciding
whether they should take action to correct wrongdoing by a party directly involved in their work [].
The dilemma boils down to an ethical or moral debate. The engineers must choose between their
allegiance to their employers and clients, or to the public they serve with their work. In many
jurisdictions the option for engineers to take action, or blow the whistle, in these situations has
become a required action, bound by the code of ethics many engineers are bound to uphold.
However, even with legislation making the practice mandatory, many engineers practice in fear of
having to blow the whistle []. Many engineers consider the act ... Show more content on

Following the criminal case there was typically a civil suit following, where the engineers were often
remunerated for the damages they incurred in the process of blowing the whistle on their employers [].
In the Hughes Aircraft case, the engineers were paid $891 000 for damages plus reimbursed for the
nearly half million dollars in legal fees incurred in the civil suit [].
What stands out in the Hughes case is that many of the illegal actions were either performed or
ordered by a specific executive within the company. The actions of this executive, and those under
him cost the company nearly $10 million in fines and remuneration [].
However, if there had been an effective means for the engineers to blow the whistle effectively, it is
possible that the company could have dealt with the matter internally at a much earlier stage. Dealing
with a potential safety concern with a project at the time of complaint could have far less negative
impact on a company than facing the aftermath of a disaster. This argument could certainly be shown
in the landmark engineering whistle blowing cases: the BART Train Control incident in 1972 and the
Space Shuttle Challenger disaster of 1986 [,].

Tristan, Islare And The Romance Of Tristan And Isolde
Tristan and Isolde Love so alike, that none do slacken, none can die (The Good Morrow) the basis of
Tristan and Isolde is known to be a romantic tragedy but as the quote states their love continues on

in love, a love that consumes them so much they disregard every consequence that can come from
there so called love. Tristan and Isolde has become an epic and famous love story told in many
versions the origins of this story dates back many years ago but the film discussed was filmed in two

many differences within the film and the story, that can be due to moderation, the audience they are
appealing to, and or just changes needed to corporate to fit the film. Due to the origins of this story
dating ages back there is no doubt that the film would differ from the story. A major difference
between the print version of the story and the film is that Tristan and Isolde fall in love through a
potion in the print version. In the film Tristan is seen to be rescued by Isolde and kept as her secret

Differences Between Low Birth Weight And Preterm Birth
2.) How is low birth weight defined? Gestational age? Identify five risk factors associated with LBW
and preterm birth.
Low birth weight is defined as an infant that is less than five pounds eight ounces which is considered
normal birth weight (Kotch, 2013). Gestational age is a category of birth wieght also called
prematurity. Premature can a baby that is born either too soon or a baby that is to small. Gestational
age measures the age of a woman s pregnancy or how far along she is. Babies that have a low birth
rate can have various health conditions. Diabetes, Heart disease, high blood pressure, Metabolic
Syndrome, and obesity are risk associated with babies born with a low birth weight (Kotch, 2013).

Employment Trends Are Not Always A Bad Thing
Employment Trends
Trends are not always a bad thing, contrary to popular beliefs. It s actually something that can inspire
change growth as I ve seen with my experiences. Sometimes bias prejudice may produce certain
disadvantages for targeted groups, employment trends may be a benefit. Through my experiences in
activities that I ve engaged with, problems I ve encountered, the professional growth gained is one in
which I would like to share to others for the sole benefit of becoming a bridge builder for them. In this
essay I will reflect on this experiences and their relationship with current employment trends.
As a student athlete at the University of Illinois, I ve noticed a certain skew in the ethnicity of staff
hired at the University in comparison with the populations that they serve. The ration between staff to
student or even coach to student shares more familiarity with those of a Caucasian back ground. Of
the 19 Varsity sports available within the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics,
only two of them have head coaches that are of African American decent. This number is an increase 0
prior to June 2015 with the hiring of Head Women s Softball Coach, Tyra Perry, the recent hiring of
Head Football Coach, Lovie Smith earlier this year. This trend follows a much important trend that
carries through many institutions of higher education in reference to their administration. These
administrators, as shown in the issues surfacing with

Groundbreaking Piece in the New York Magazine of 1915...
In February 1915, the New York magazine, The Smart Set: A Magazine of Cleverness, featured a piece
called, The Flapper. This was the first time a magazine had ever shown the rebellious young girl who
wore short dresses and skirts in the 1920 s. The magazine described the flapper as A charming
creature! (The Smart Set : A Magazine of Cleverness) and continued to boast the reputation of the
flapper by portraying her as educated and mysterious. The magazine Vanity Fair soon followed in
September of 1921, but this magazine demolished the reputation of the flapper girl. Why aren t they at
home? (Panzini The Flapper a New Type: September 1921) the magazine and the majority of people
asked. The article then described how the image of the flapper girl is distinguishing a mother from her
daughter by the way they acted and dressed.
The image of a flapper girl was not just in the United States, for Germany and France had the flapper
girl as an icon. The term for flapper girl in Germany is, der Backfish, and in French it is l Ingénue.
(The Smart Set : A Magazine of Cleverness) Before the flapper girl, there was the era of Victorian
fashion, the role of women before World War One, and the role of women during World War One. Post
World War One, the focus on the image of women in society skyrocketed through every day flapper
girls and through publicized flapper girls such as famous actresses Clara Bow and Louise Brooks. In
the 1920 s, opportunities expanded dramatically for women,

A Mechanized War Poem
This poem is my favorite of the three poems we have studied because of the beautiful language and
poetic techniques it employs, and because of how realistically it portrays war. The poem captures the
horror of troops caught in the middle of a brutal and merciless war, and their desperation. In a
mechanized war, attacks take place with frightening speed and intensity, where there is no place to run
or hide, and any response is not made out of logic but of pure fear. This hasty and irrational way of
thinking fueled only by terror typically only ended in death for both the attacker and the defender, and
severe trauma for any survivors. Using a series of present continuous verbs, the poet depicts fast
evolving action. He portrays the realness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

thousands of articles, television commercials, and websites about police brutality, race problems, and
rarely seeing anything good about police officers. Lately it seems as though society is more concerned
about police brutality than actual positive affects police officers have on society. With all of the things
you hear on social media, and fake Facebook articles there are many different things that need to be
taken into consideration. What are the positive affects police officers have on the world and in your ...

Reflection About Divorce
Divorce is difficult on the children involved. When my parents finalized their divorce, it was decided
that for the majority of the summer we would stay with our mother. The divorce occurred when my
brothers and I were very young. My mother lived in a small, unremarkable town named Evart that is
north of Lansing. Our grandmother lived in the outskirts of nearby Reed City. We spent most of our
time during the summer at her cramped little trailer. The trailer she lived in was on a decently sized
plot of land. Her home was situated on a hill that leveled out quickly as the path led to the road. The
yard was expansive with hard brown grass covering a small portion with dirt covering the rest. On one
side of the trailer was a large red barn with chipped paint. On the other side was an old brown camper
that held two beds and an old television with an antenna resting on the top. There was no backyard as
the trailer was a few feet from a wooden fence that had barbed wire across the top to stop the neighbor
s horses from entering the property. The camper is where my brother and I slept while with my
grandmother. The property where my brother Sabastian and I stayed at shaped some of the ways my
personality developed. When our mother left us at my grandmother s she would take my oldest brother
Andrew with her, leaving my older brother Sabastian and I with our grandma. We were mostly
independent; we were not allowed in the house so we roamed the property playing with the dogs

Hatred In Romeo And Juliet
Could hatred between two families affect how much two people love each other? In the play Romeo
and Juliet written by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet s love for each other was very strong.
Their relationship could have turned out different if the relationship between the Capulets and the
Montagues wasn t just hatred for each other. My supporting Ideas are, the Montagues and Capulets
hate each other and Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet. And that had a big influence on their
relationship and Friar laurence and the Nurse was helping Romeo and Juliet and Friar Laurence was a
Montague and the Nurse was a Capulet. My first point is Juliet tries to warn Romeo about if their
families find out they could get into a lot of trouble. When Romeo and Juliet are talking in act two

Declaration Of The Rights Of Man Essay
Many revolutionaries and peasants insist on revoking Article 17 of the Declaration of the Rights of
Man, which declares that property is a sacred and inviolable right. The National Assembly has already
seized and sold much of the land of the Catholic Church, and even peasants have taken thousands of
manor houses. The most extreme and wild radicals seek to eliminate all rights to property. If these
radicals and revolutionaries succeed in eliminating a right to property and in confiscating all of the
wealth in France, they will eventually cripple France s intellectual creativity. Furthermore, France will
resemble the horrific and savage state which Rousseau cherishes because famine, disease, and
stagnation will ensue. Revolutionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Burke notes that Title 1 of the pending constitution guarantees the inviolability of property or a just

How can the inviolability of property possibly be reconciled with the National Assembly grabbing the
lands of the nobility and the Catholic Church? Burke also goes on to wonder what will happen next if
the state begins to take away one institution or person s property. In his writing, Burke states It is not
the confiscation of our church property from this example in France that I dread, though I think this
would be no trifling evil. The great source of my solicitude is, lest it should ever be considered in
England as the policy of a state, to seek a resource in confiscations of any kind; or that any one
description of citizens should be brought to regard any of the others as their proper prey. Revolutions
and their radicals are favourable to confiscation, while government is needed to subdue men s

The Graduate Movie Essay
In the film The Graduate (Mike Nichols, 1967), the focus of movie is centered on main character
Benjamin Braddock s life after college, as he aimlessly finds himself being exploited, mis directed,
seduced (figuratively and literally) and betrayed by the antagonist, Mrs. Robinson who coincidently
helps him transition from boyhood into adulthood. The central theme of innocence and confusion are
also at the forefront of the film s thematic message, where Ben is often seen lost in his own world. The
scene initially opens with a fade in shot effect from black to blue into a close up, disembodied image
of Benjamin Braddock s face that serves to highlight the moral dilemma of film during Benjamin s
drifting phase in the opening seconds of the shot. The purpose of Nichols s use of non diegetic sounds,

However, it is most prominently shown through the director s use of the leitmotif, sounds of silence a
non diegetic sound that plays continuously from shots 1 10 that underscore Ben s unstable mental state
during the first ten initial shots. Furthermore, shots 7 and 8 are just two of four select shots that feature
examples of discontinuity editing, that both reveal and highlight this idea of confusion, as they attempt
to seamlessly connect two shots under the use of a match on action effect. In addition, it also does this
by not including any sort of diegetic sounds in order keep the audience from noticing any significant
changes or breaks in the scene as it might ruin the illusion of Ben s drifting state of mind. However, it
can also be said that Nichols relies on these instances of discontinuity in order demonstrate his own
attempt to snap Ben out of his daze, and give him a sense of direction to follow. That said, there are

Reynold s Genocide In Tasmania
In chapter five of Genocide in Tasmania , historian Henry Reynolds briefly outlines how Tasmania,
formerly Van Diemen s land, is recognised for its isolation, scenery and inhabitants. Drawing largely
upon the main complications occurring later within the years of British colonisation. Reynold records
the moderate change of the British settlement being assigned and acknowledged as a prison society for
convicts. He believes that it was through the actions of Governor George Arthur, that the colony
received its evil status. The number of native people decreased from thousands to hundreds. Reynold

His book The Fatal Shore illustrates how the native people were devalued, degraded and ultimately
murdered. It states that they were shot like kangaroos and poisoned like dogs (p.127). This suggests
that the British used many strategies in order to destroy the population and the colonial government
itself was not even willing to pay respect to the Tasmanians. The native population was small,
estimated between five thousand people, so contact became unavoidable. Reynold reveals that the
escalation of the war was promoted by a strategy used by Arthur as he introduced a document called
the proclamation. The proclamation intended to remind the native people that the British law was
equal. Unfortunately this increased the number of brutal realities in the bush. Reynold points out that
Arthur had no choice but to oppose force by force (p.135) and declare war. The military undertook an
operation known as the Black Line , driving the native people into the two peninsulas in the far
southeast. Arthur emphasised that the Black Line would support the native people and his objective
was not to kill them. Reynold notes that there was no easy answer, and the black line failed to capture
the native people apart from an old man and boy

The Effects Of Stress On Our Mental And Physical Health
As we learned in class, stress is any force that changes the body s natural state, known as homeostasis.
Stress does not always have to be viewed as a bad thing. For example, stress can motivate someone to
study for an exam or plan ahead in his or her agenda to stay organized. Its only when stress manifest
out of control and is not addressed properly that it can have very negative effects on both our mental
and physical health. Reflecting on the document we watched in class, Stress: Portrait of a Killer, I was
surprised to learn more about baboons correlating to human beings stress management and how you
position as individual in the hierarchy of life has in effect on the levels of stress you may endure. In
the documentary I learned a lot about how dominant male baboons has lower stress levels which in
turn, made these baboon relativity healthier compared to their other members of their group. The
baboons who had higher stress levels also has high blood pressure, not as good immune system, and a
poor reproductive system. This just goes to show the position the baboons held in their hierarchy
related to their health and ultimately, their life span. This idea that stress is related to poor health and
life expectancy is not only true for baboons, but for human beings as well. I know from prior
experiences when i get stress I tend to get really sick. When the end of the semester comes around, I

Boxing In Ancient Greece
My version
Boxing is a game with a long convention, with roots backtracking a great many years to the Olympics
of the old Greeks
Boxing is a sport with conventional rules, with longstanding history going back a huge number of
years to the era of the ancient Greeks olympics.1 Boxing can be classed as a direct interactive sport. In
both beginner and expert forms, the boxers wear cushioned gloves, striking and guarding with your
fists clenched. Every session by and large goes on for 3 minutes and the victor is the person who
handles the most punches or thumps out his adversary. Boxing is likewise called pugilism and
prizefighting. 12 There is a typical conviction that left given individuals are less skilful. In any case,
the accomplishment of the soccer players skilfully utilizing their left feet, and the accomplishments of

Agatha Christie Enduring Appeal
Specific principles determine whether or not an essay is effective, those being the organization,
development and the focus. In my opinion, the Enduring Appeal of Agatha Christie was an effective
essay because it followed the rules of the three basic principles. Firstly, essays are organized by the
introduction, body and conclusion. During this essay, it follows this organization and also uses the
triangle concept. The triangle concept is when the key ideas are expressed from general to most
specific. The introduction started with a successful hook to grab readers attention, who does not enjoy
a good mystery . It proceeded to use the triangle concept by starting out with the more general
concept, which explains how mystery novels are widely enjoyed by people. The ... Show more content

reader s comfort. The enduring appeal of Christie Agatha essay has a strong development; the order of
the arguments in each paragraph of the body follows the order in the thesis. In addition, each argument

American bilateral aid, in the form of outright grants or low interest loans, often comes highly
qualified and redirects wealth back to the United States by design. The United States no longer keeps
track of the level of tied aid, citing statistical difficulties, but USAID reports in 1996 estimated that
71.6% of bilateral aid commitments were tied to the purchase of US goods and services (ActionAid
1). In 1993, USAID generated seven billion dollars in revenue from purchase of American goods and
services and claimed it has created thousands of jobs...here at home (Hancock 156). Clearly, the
United States reaps a handsome reward from its foreign aid policy. Is this what we want from a
supposed exporter of development expertise and the richest country in the world?
The two most insidious manifestations of tied aid involve distortions of international markets
distortions which bring direct benefit to the United States. Tied aid often requires purchase of
American goods and services with markups above international prices. Conversely, tied aid can also
involve the sale of goods and services below international prices. Subsidized agricultural exports
belong to this category of foreign aid and were the subject of great debate and fury at this year s trade
talks in Cancun, Mexico.

purchased with tied aid tend to be priced well above their actual market value, with

network will be more flexible and cheaper than an old fashioned wired local area network (LAN).
That is beside the fact that wireless networks are easy to install, expand, and have the additional
advantage of presenting a portable wireless link to the bed and breakfast residents.
This internet networking project will be made up of two distinctive phases. In Phase I, a small scale
network will be developed. The lessons learnt in Phase I will appraise the plan for Phase II, in which
the network will be expanded to include the whole area that the lighthouse lays claim to. The final

What is environmental ethics? Ethics is a branch of philosophy that involves the study of good and
bad, of right and wrong. It includes theories such as relativism and universalism. Virtue, Categorical
Imperative, and the principle of utility are three ethical standards. Environmental ethics is the
application of ethical standards to relationships between humans and nonhuman entities.
Compare and contrast anthropocentrism, biocentrism, and ecocentrism. Anthropocentrism describes a
human centered view of our relationship with the environment. An anthropocentric denies or ignores
the notion that nonhuman entities can have rights. In contrast biocentrism ascribes value to certain

Intellectual Humility And The Education World
Intellectual Humility in the Education World Every teacher has their own bias. The people who write
state standards and state tests also have biases. Students are biased on what they think they need to pay
attention to in class. Teachers, state governments and students each believe that they know what is
most important in their separate fields. None of these groups like to be told that they are teaching,
writing, or learning wrong. However, it is still necessary for people to remain open to criticism
because criticism may lead to an improvement down the road. But each group needs another group to
be able to call them out on these issues. This is called staying humble. Intellectual humility is
admitting to not knowing everything in a field of interest but still being willing to accept criticism in
order to further knowledge of a subject and become more capable of doing a job better than before.
Intellectual humility is combination of two things: common sense and critical thinking. Common
sense is a characteristic that people sneer at. Speaking from experience, humans are prone to not
listening to advice and doing what they think it is the best option. When peers and teachers start listing
off x, y, and z reasons for why what they are doing is a bad idea, people without common sense will
refuse to listen. Common sense requires us to look at the big picture and think carefully through all the
possible options and go with the option that is most reasonable. This

needs of its products consumers. Specifically, Nestlé is incorporating health and wellness into the
creation of its products as society has started becoming more health conscious.
Threat of Substitute Products
Due to the nature of the industry, Nestlé is afflicted with the threat of substitute goods. Ranging from
ice cream, frozen foods and confectionaries to pet food, there are arrays of similar products that
compete directly with Nestlé. It is vital for Nestlé to continuously find new ways to improve its
products and generate new sources of growth for the company s future expansion because competition
is so violent. In recent years, Nestlé has focused on the health and wellness aspects of its products to
maintain its edge in the market.

Essay On Sharpen My Instruments
On Thursday, September 28th my morning and afternoon patients cancelled the night before. After
making a few phone calls I was able to schedule my patient NN for the afternoon. It worked well
because her next appointment was scheduled for November 10th since that was my next Thursday
appointment on my schedule. During the morning since I did not have a patient, I decided to sharpen
my instruments because my afternoon patient had a lot of supra and subgingival calculus and I wanted
to be ready to effectively remove them all. I washed a video to refresh the basic concepts on sharping
and I was able to do a sharpen competency. Dental hygienists depend on a very sensitive tactile touch
while working subgingivally, for this reason the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I thought that showing her some intraoral photos of her supragingival calculus will help them to be
more diligent in putting in practice my recommendations on brushing and flossing. I tried to have
everything organized and ready for my afternoon patient because my plan was to SRP the UR and LR
quadrants. First, I updated her medical and dental history, and took her vitals. My patient NN is 58
years old with an excellent health. Her blood pressure was 99/65, pulse: 65, and respiration: 20. After
explaining the procedure to my patient, I asked for her consent to administer anesthesia and she
agreed. For the UR and LR quadrants I used 20% benzocaine as my topic anesthesia and 2% lidocaine
(1:100,000) to infiltrate the PSA, MSA, and ASA; Dr Landry did the IA and the Long. In all of the
sites we got negative aspiration, no complications and anesthesia was achieved. I started with the
cavitron and then followed with my hand instruments; my patient had some 7 mm pockets and for
those I used the after 5 instruments. My patient was comfortable during the whole procedure, and
while we were waiting for the lower teeth to get anesthetized, I went over the flossing and the
brushing techniques. I recommended the used of interdental brushes because she has recessions and
will help her clean better the interproximal spaces. Also, I advised her to use warm water and salt
twice a day. The patient wanted to know if we

Jesse Owens Biography
At the 1939 Big Ten Championships, the Buckeye Bullet, as he was called , overcame a sever tailbone
injury and tied a world record in the 100 yard dash and set a long jump record of 26 8 ¼ that would
stand for 25 years. Owens also set new world marks in the 220 yard dash and in the 220 yard low
hurdles. American track and field athlete Jesse Owens won 4 gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympic
Games. The dormitory used by Jesse during the Olympics has been fully restored into a living
museum, with pictures of his accomplishments at the games , and a letter, intercepted by the Nazi
Gestapo, from a fan urging Jesse not to shake hands with Hitler. Jesse Owens, the buckeye bullet,

He also challenged and defeated racehorses a speed at up to 30 m.p.h. plus; as he revealed later, the
trick was to race a high strung thoroughbred that would be frightened by the starter s shotgun and give
him a bad jump. Owen said, People say that it was degrading for an Olympic champion to run against
a horse, but what was I to do? I had 4 gold medals , but you can t eat 4 gold medals. Jesse ran a dry
cleaning business and worked as a gas station attendant to earn a living ; he eventually filed for
bankruptcy. In 1966, he was successfully prosecuted for tax evasion. At rock bottom, he was aided in
beginning rehabilitation. The government appointed him as a US goodwill ambassador. Jesse Owens
traveled the world and spoke to companies such as the Ford Motor Company and stockholders such as
the United States Olympic Committee. After he retired , he owned racehorses. Jesse Owens was a
pack a day cigarette smoker for 35 years, had been hospitalized with an extremely aggressive and drug
resistant type of lung cancer on and off beginning in December 1997. He passed away from the
disease at age 66 in Tucson, Arizona, on March 31, 1980, with his wife and other family members at

The First Three Phases Of The War, The Bohemian Phase (...
The thirty years war was an important conflict in the Holy Roman Empire that started in 1618 and
ended in 1648. It was fought between the German states and the Emperor; it was fought between
Catholics and Protestants, and it was also fought between outside nations against each other. The thirty
years war started with religious rivalries between Catholics and Protestants with some political
ambitions, but eventually developed mainly into a war of dynastic ambitions with many groups
attempting to gain political power over their opponents. The first three phases of the war, the
Bohemian phase (1618 1625), the Danish phase (1625 1629), and the Swedish Phase (1630 1635)
were mainly fought over religious reasons with Catholics on one side and Protestants on the other.
Lutheranism was accepted in the Holy Roman Empire since the Peace of Augsburg in 1555, but
Calvinism wasn t. However, many states still turned Calvinist, including the Palatinate whose ruler
was one of the seven people that elected the Holy Roman Emperor. In 1608, led by the Palatinate, the
protestant groups formed a protestant union. The Protestant states wanted to gain more rights and
weaken the empire by remaining independent. In response, some Catholic states formed the Catholic
union in 1609 led by Bavaria. The Austrian Habsburgs wanted to completely eradicate Protestantism
that was threatening the stability of their Empire. The tension between these two sides was what
caused war to break out when the

Influence Of Accordin Management At The Lincoln Electric...
The Lincoln Electric Company Organizational Culture
The continued influence of founder James Lincoln s values and belief system is visible throughout
every aspect of the organizational culture at the Lincoln Electric Company. Although James Lincoln
believed that businesses should follow Christian morality, he did not impose religion on any of the
employees. Instead, his beliefs are reflected in the company s policy of always placing the customer
first, and its view that this practice is not only morally correct, but also beneficial to the company s
economic success which has been proven true. James Lincoln also introduced the use of an Advisory
Board, consisting of employees elected by peers, which meets with the CEO twice a month to discuss
company operations and provide input on ways to make the company more successful, often by
focusing on improving employee experiences. Through suggestions to management, this Advisory
Board has been responsible for helping to implement the many policies and programs that have lead to
the Lincoln Electric Company s remarkable and steady success since 1935. One of the many strikingly
successful aspects of the culture in this company is the extremely low turnover rate, and the promise
of job stability for employees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Employees are encouraged to share ideas and feedback with the Advisory Board, but this input is
simply used to craft recommendations for the head management. In the end, management has total
control over decisions and any course of action. As a result of the strong focus on personal
responsibility for professional success, employees require much less supervision from managers than
in comparable companies. This allows management to focus on the less tangible aspects of running a
business, such as financing for company expenditures (which is done almost exclusively through use
of internal revenue), sales, and concerns of

How Did Life Change For The Upper Class After French...
How did life change for the upper class after the French Revolution? Life changed extremely for the
upper class. Before the French Revolution, the upper class owned lots of land, didn t have to pay taxes
and was very wealthy. Which meant they could buy expensive food and clothing. They lived off the
sweat of peasants. They were seen as greedy who contributed nothing. The upper class only made up
2% of society. The upper class was very cohere to all their privileges. But this all changed during the
Revolution, the upper class began fearing to lose their privileges and they soon tried to escape. Later
on, they were imposed to come back, being humiliated by the order of a lower class. Consequently,
after the Revolution, they had to face a great

The Discovergence Project
Even at its best, the convergence project didn t account for all of the subtleties that would bring its
demise. According to an article by Ken Tysiac of the Journal of Accountancy, the project formally
ended in January 2013 when a joint meeting between FASB and the IASB resulted in an
announcement to continue increasing global comparability in different ways. Now, FASB continues to
strive for increased comparability among foreign standards to U.S. GAAP. The FASB s strategy for
doing so involves three methods. Firstly, FASB aims to develop high quality standards for others to
follow. In doing so, FASB intends to serve as a reference point and benchmark for others... [and] lead

businesses remains bleak. Unfortunately, a single set of standards is desired by many groups across the
globe, and it could be the best way to compare GAAPs across the globe. In an April 2015 study
published by Tel Aviv University, researchers compared underpricing of IPO firms in countries that
use IFRS to IPO firms that used domestic GAAP. This study found that IFRS adoption can generate a
positive externality by enhancing comparability, but only when coupled with high quality enforcement
or strong firm level reporting incentives. This indicates that while some countries would not
experience improved comparability from IFRS adoption as a result of systemic corruption, the United
States still has potential to reap the benefits from adoption, in spite of concerns from private

Possible Counter Argument Analysis
This essay looks to discuss a possible counter argument to Graham s claim that those who suffer from
mental disorders are worse off. The counter argument holds that some sufferers of mental disorder are
actually better off due to their disorder. The essay begins by explain why Graham believes mental
disorders make us worse off. After this the essay presents the possible counter argument, that mental
disorders make us better off. The essay then finds that Graham partially agrees with the counter
argument, as mental disorders benefit us in certain situations, but that still make us worse off in the
long run. However, this does to defeat the counter argument, as the counter argument seems to only
concern itself with in the short term situations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He holds that it is better to have a well ordered mind than one that is not . This is because having a
mental disorder gum up our minds leads to undesirable consequences. It is these consequences that
make the sufferer worse off. Graham offers us three consequences. First, mental disorders entail harm
for the sufferer. This means that the sufferer may have emotional pains due to the disorder, and
furthermore, that the disorder may lead the sufferer to behave in a way that is detrimental themselves.
The consequence makes us worse off then, since it makes us suffer from harm that we would not have
to suffer from if we had a well ordered mind. The second consequence of mental disorders is that they
occur involuntarily. This means that the occurrence of mental disorder is not something that the
sufferer has control over, and furthermore, not something that they desired to happen. It makes them
worse off, as it undermines the sufferer s autonomy and right to choose. The final consequence
involves treatment of a mental disorder. It follows from the last two consequences that one who
suffers from a mental disorder would want to be treated since mental disorders make us worse off. Yet
treating a mental disorder is not like treating somatic disease. A somatic disease can be overcome by
giving the sufferer the proper medication. But, mental disorders are not so simple, as our minds are so
complex, that even with treatment we may not get better. So, they are worse off then, as it is hard to
alleviate these unwanted disorders. Thus, Graham holds that mental disorders make us worse

  • 2. C Gattii Research Paper There is a risk of C. gattii in tropical areas and the Pacific Northwest. There are many factors that contribute to this risk. How it is transmitted, environmental causes, locations of infection, and prevention. It is important to understand the risk before traveling so you don t become infected. To learn more about this risk we will look at areas in which the fungi exists, who s susceptible, and how to keep from getting sick. Cryptococcus gattii is a fungus that lives in the soil associated with certain trees and causes the infection C. gattii Cryptococcus s. In mild climates, the fungus survives in soil and grows in tree bark. Douglas firs carry the fungus. The fungus occurs in the top 15cm of the soil, on trees, wood chips, mulch, and other natural reservoirs. Fungus spores are aerosolized through soil disturbance. (https://www.emlab.com/s/sampling/env report 03 2012.html) The microscopic fungus C. gattii can infect people after breathing it in from the environment. • 3. How Did The Aztecs Impact Mesoamerican Civilization Another system the Aztecs created were dike, which was a technique to separate the salt water from Lake Texcoco from mixing with the fresh water. The dike also served as another purpose; it created a barrier around Tenochtitlan (Outer walls in figure 2) to keep intruders out and also had gates that could be open to help even the water levels out after flooding. Another hydraulic engineering accomplishment was the canals that were created while forming Tenochtitlan (figure 2). These canals were used to get in and out of the city. The Aztecs created causeways that allowed them to get in and out of the city to retrieve food and allowed merchants to enter the city. These techniques that the Aztecs used in order to manipulate the water, overcome frequent flooding that can cause disasters, and build their empire is a testament to their intelligence. This was not the only area of intelligence that the Aztecs had achieved; they were avid astrologers and believed in this subject religiously. Astrology?: Like the Aztecs predecessors, the practice of astrology was significantly important in their civilization. There were four calendars that impacted Mesoamerican society: the solar calendar, sacred round, calendar round, and the long count calendar, these four calendars contributed to the way the society operated based on science and ... • 4. The Inclination of Today’s Youths Towards Self-Harm Many teenagers are suffering a hidden pain in the privacy of their homes. They secretly cut, burn, scratch, pull hair, and bruise their bodies. The psychosis is termed non suicidal self injury (NSSI).Teenagers are feeling pressures from typical insecurities of low self esteem, body image, fashion trends, bullying, pressures from friends, and family issues. As a result, teens are turning to the internet for strategies of how to deal with the pressures of life, making this topic more of a public enigma, than a private suffering issue. NSSI is a growing phenomenon and parents and psychologists should advocate safe internet sites, and force social media outlets to provide links for teens to access healthier ways to manage their emotions. NSSI behavior is on the rise and is more prevalent among our youth today; due to images, other teens upload on the internet. Today many teens are accessing self harm images and content on the World Wide Web, through YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. The images are of the cuts and burns that others have inflicted on themselves, while others are of diagrams depicting where to cut, that parents and teachers will not notice. Some teens will use self injury to try to relieve their feelings of anxiety and pressures they are feeling in their lives. According to Caitlin Dewey, in an article from The Washington Post, an issue with internet sites is that they promote the activity as normal and healthy, therefore encouraging teens to continue injuring ... The Red Queen s character is seen as an antagonist, the opposing force to Alice s adventures. Upon their first encounter in this story the queen explains the rules of her kingdom as like the rules of a game of chess, as a story and game of advancement and promotion. Alice is like a pawn piece and can move up the board in such a way that she too can become the queen, like as in chess the queen can move effortlessly in whatever manner she likes. The queen perturbs Alice into an endless run with Alice having no real direction of where she is heading and meeting other strange characters along the way which develops her idea of the impossible being possible. Elizabeth Pearce, a curator and writer for MONA states; the Red Queen exhibition asks us to consider whether doing something without a seeming purpose is the product of us, or whether it actually contributes to changing us. (The Red Queen arrives at MONA 2013) This exhibition, takes us into the realms of the science behind the theme. The evolutionary concept that in the earlier 20thcentury scientist s believed there was an end point, a goal to the evolutionary process. • 6. Lithium Research Paper Lithium is the third element on the periodic table and is known as the lightest metal, and is half as dense as water. It is a part of the Alkali metals, meaning it is in the first group on the periodic table. Lithium is normally not found in nature, due to the fact that it has a very unstable nucleus. The name Lithium is derived from the Greek word lithos, which means stone . This name was likely given to Lithium due to the fact that it was discovered in the mineral petalite (LiAl(Si2O5)2) by Johann August Arfvedson in 1817. It was later isolated through the form of electrolysis of lithium oxide by William Thomas Brande. Lithium is made of two stable isotopes, with Lithium 6 containing 3 neutrons and accounting 7.59% of the natural abundance of lithium, and Lithium 7 containing 4 neutrons and accounting for 92.41% of lithium s natural abundance. ... American corporations were already selling military weapons to both sides of the war. Sadly, President Wilson did not take action against this. • 8. Introduction Of The Book Of Exodus And The Judge s Cycle Alejandra Morales 10/7/2016 Introduction to Jewish Traditions Dr. Haus Analytical Essay In religions such as Christianity, Islam and Buddhism, redemption holds various interpretations. Yet, for the Jews, redemption is mainly about God redeeming them from various exiles and slavery. Redemption is prevalent throughout Hebrew Traditions and highlights the tensions that arise between human and divine powers such as in the Book of Exodus and the Judge s Cycle which demonstrates the eternal aspect of the covenant and renders God as the only determinant of salvation for humanity. Analyzing the initial concept of redemption in the Book of Exodus and understanding the cycle in which redemption is attained authenticates God s power as a redeemer and the eternality of redemption to those who repent and aim to fulfill the covenant. The Book of Exodus exhibits the essence of obligation and responsibility as the foundation for the perpetual relationship between God and his people, outlining God as the redeemer and his people as the observers of the covenant. During the Jewish Exile in Egypt , God establishes himself as the redeemer of the Israelites which validates his commitment to the covenant and the Jewish people reciprocate by accepting the Torah. Now then, if you will obey Me faithfully and keep My covenant, you shall be My treasured possession among all the peoples. . . All the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Global Pursuit Of Economic Development Since The End... In Global Political Economy, Chapter 11 discusses the global pursuit of economic development since the end of the Second World War (219). In a nutshell, this analysis involves the account and summary of some of the information that has been previously presented in earlier chapters of this book. Mainly, the process of industrialization in Great Britain as well as the United States is noted in the introduction to the chapter. Afterwards, the authors proceed to define the term development using quotes and statements from a few other authors. But, the central idea of development, no matter how the definition may be worded, takes into account the themes of process and condition, or the change of condition. In addition, when regarding the immediate era after the war, development relied on economic growth of a country measured by its Gross National Product (GNP) (221). The Gross National Product, according to Encyclopedia Britannica, is the total market value of the final goods and services produced by a nation s economy during a specific period of time (usually a year), computed before allowance is made for the depreciation or consumption of capital used in the process of production (Encyclopedia Britannica). The timeline of development for countries worldwide after WWII is then clarified. Many nations were considered underdeveloped , backward , or most commonly Third World . While, since the year 2004, systematic reviews are also performed by many software engineering researchers and number of important engineering conferences also seek submissions in this research category. In addition to this many popular journals and magazines have distinct section for papers, which are also based on this research methodology. (Kitchenham Charters, 2007) According to Kitchenham, A systematic literature review (often referred to as a systematic review) is a means of identifying, evaluating and interpreting all available research relevant to a particular research question, or topic area, or phenomenon of interest (p.8). The fundamental study of the systematic literature review is known as primary studies, and the systematic literature itself is known as a form of secondary study. 2.1.2 Adopting the Systematic Literature Review There ... What little increase that was found, was/is thought to be due to overlapping , or rather recounting whales. Researchers believe that many of these whales interact with different stocks/groups (NAMMCO, 1995). These are not the only whales to pay the price; since the beginning of commercial whaling over one million sperm whales, two hundred and fifty thousand humpbacks, and two million other whales have been killed for profit. Are times changing? Records dating back to the 1931 1932 whale hunting season (ten years before the International Whaling Commission was put in place to protect and stop whaling), 28,325 blue whales were slaughtered. In 1946, the Whaling Commission was formed; however, even with protection, thirty years later (1963 1964) over 29,255 sperms kills were hunted for their meat and other products. Today, even with protection, it is estimated that only 5 10% of the original whale population remains (Carwardine, Hoyt, Fordyce, Gill, 1998). The dilemma boils down to an ethical or moral debate. The engineers must choose between their allegiance to their employers and clients, or to the public they serve with their work. In many jurisdictions the option for engineers to take action, or blow the whistle, in these situations has become a required action, bound by the code of ethics many engineers are bound to uphold. However, even with legislation making the practice mandatory, many engineers practice in fear of having to blow the whistle []. Many engineers consider the act ... What stands out in the Hughes case is that many of the illegal actions were either performed or ordered by a specific executive within the company. The actions of this executive, and those under him cost the company nearly $10 million in fines and remuneration []. However, if there had been an effective means for the engineers to blow the whistle effectively, it is possible that the company could have dealt with the matter internally at a much earlier stage. Dealing with a potential safety concern with a project at the time of complaint could have far less negative impact on a company than facing the aftermath of a disaster. This argument could certainly be shown in the landmark engineering whistle blowing cases: the BART Train Control incident in 1972 and the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster of 1986 [,]. Tristan and Isolde has become an epic and famous love story told in many versions the origins of this story dates back many years ago but the film discussed was filmed in two thousand and six in which we will compare it to the text of The Romance of Tristan and Iseult. There many differences within the film and the story, that can be due to moderation, the audience they are appealing to, and or just changes needed to corporate to fit the film. Due to the origins of this story dating ages back there is no doubt that the film would differ from the story. A major difference between the print version of the story and the film is that Tristan and Isolde fall in love through a potion in the print version. In the film Tristan is seen to be rescued by Isolde and kept as her secret from her father in which Tristan and Isolde spend time together and that is how their relationship begins which is also the basis of the film about their love. As a student athlete at the University of Illinois, I ve noticed a certain skew in the ethnicity of staff hired at the University in comparison with the populations that they serve. The ration between staff to student or even coach to student shares more familiarity with those of a Caucasian back ground. Of the 19 Varsity sports available within the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, only two of them have head coaches that are of African American decent. This number is an increase 0 prior to June 2015 with the hiring of Head Women s Softball Coach, Tyra Perry, the recent hiring of Head Football Coach, Lovie Smith earlier this year. • 20. Groundbreaking Piece in the New York Magazine of 1915... In February 1915, the New York magazine, The Smart Set: A Magazine of Cleverness, featured a piece called, The Flapper. This was the first time a magazine had ever shown the rebellious young girl who wore short dresses and skirts in the 1920 s. The magazine described the flapper as A charming creature! (The Smart Set : A Magazine of Cleverness) and continued to boast the reputation of the flapper by portraying her as educated and mysterious. The magazine Vanity Fair soon followed in September of 1921, but this magazine demolished the reputation of the flapper girl. Why aren t they at home? (Panzini The Flapper a New Type: September 1921) the magazine and the majority of people asked. The article then described how the image of the flapper girl is distinguishing a mother from her daughter by the way they acted and dressed. The image of a flapper girl was not just in the United States, for Germany and France had the flapper girl as an icon. The term for flapper girl in Germany is, der Backfish, and in French it is l Ingénue. (The Smart Set : A Magazine of Cleverness) Before the flapper girl, there was the era of Victorian fashion, the role of women before World War One, and the role of women during World War One. Post World War One, the focus on the image of women in society skyrocketed through every day flapper girls and through publicized flapper girls such as famous actresses Clara Bow and Louise Brooks. • 21. A Mechanized War Poem This poem is my favorite of the three poems we have studied because of the beautiful language and poetic techniques it employs, and because of how realistically it portrays war. The poem captures the horror of troops caught in the middle of a brutal and merciless war, and their desperation. In a mechanized war, attacks take place with frightening speed and intensity, where there is no place to run or hide, and any response is not made out of logic but of pure fear. This hasty and irrational way of thinking fueled only by terror typically only ended in death for both the attacker and the defender, and severe trauma for any survivors. When my parents finalized their divorce, it was decided that for the majority of the summer we would stay with our mother. The divorce occurred when my brothers and I were very young. My mother lived in a small, unremarkable town named Evart that is north of Lansing. Our grandmother lived in the outskirts of nearby Reed City. We spent most of our time during the summer at her cramped little trailer. The trailer she lived in was on a decently sized plot of land. Her home was situated on a hill that leveled out quickly as the path led to the road. The yard was expansive with hard brown grass covering a small portion with dirt covering the rest. On one side of the trailer was a large red barn with chipped paint. On the other side was an old brown camper that held two beds and an old television with an antenna resting on the top. There was no backyard as the trailer was a few feet from a wooden fence that had barbed wire across the top to stop the neighbor s horses from entering the property. The camper is where my brother and I slept while with my grandmother. The property where my brother Sabastian and I stayed at shaped some of the ways my personality developed. The central theme of innocence and confusion are also at the forefront of the film s thematic message, where Ben is often seen lost in his own world. The people who write state standards and state tests also have biases. Students are biased on what they think they need to pay attention to in class. Teachers, state governments and students each believe that they know what is most important in their separate fields. None of these groups like to be told that they are teaching, writing, or learning wrong. Intellectual humility is combination of two things: common sense and critical thinking. Common sense is a characteristic that people sneer at. The Lincoln Electric Company Organizational Culture The continued influence of founder James Lincoln s values and belief system is visible throughout every aspect of the organizational culture at the Lincoln Electric Company. Although James Lincoln believed that businesses should follow Christian morality, he did not impose religion on any of the employees. Instead, his beliefs are reflected in the company s policy of always placing the customer first, and its view that this practice is not only morally correct, but also beneficial to the company s economic success which has been proven true. James Lincoln also introduced the use of an Advisory Board, consisting of employees elected by peers, which meets with the CEO twice a month to discuss company operations and provide input on ways to make the company more successful, often by focusing on improving employee experiences. Through suggestions to management, this Advisory Board has been responsible for helping to implement the many policies and programs that have lead to the Lincoln Electric Company s remarkable and steady success since 1935. After this the essay presents the possible counter argument, that mental disorders make us better off. He holds that it is better to have a well ordered mind than one that is not . This is because having a mental disorder gum up our minds leads to undesirable consequences. It is these consequences that make the sufferer worse off. Graham offers us three consequences. First, mental disorders entail harm for the sufferer. This means that the sufferer may have emotional pains due to the disorder, and furthermore, that the disorder may lead the sufferer to behave in a way that is detrimental themselves. The consequence makes us worse off then, since it makes us suffer from harm that we would not have to suffer from if we had a well ordered mind. The second consequence of mental disorders is that they occur involuntarily. This means that the occurrence of mental disorder is not something that the sufferer has control over, and furthermore, not something that they desired to happen. It makes them worse off, as it undermines the sufferer s autonomy and right to choose. The final consequence involves treatment of a mental disorder. It follows from the last two consequences that one who suffers from a mental disorder would want to be treated since mental disorders make us worse off. Yet treating a mental disorder is not like treating somatic disease. A somatic disease can be overcome by giving the sufferer the proper medication. But, mental disorders are not so simple, as our minds are so complex, that even with treatment we may not get better. So, they are worse off then, as it is hard to alleviate these unwanted disorders.
