John Gould Analysis
the discoveries in physics of Sir Isaac Newton finally laid to rest the idea that the Earth might be the
center of the universe; the (study of living things/qualities of living things) of Charles Darwin made it
hard to believe that human beings were different in kind from the rest of the animal kingdom; and,
later, the mental explanations of Sigmund Freud left it impossible to hope even that human beings
were owners of a basically clear and sensible mind. Organizing scientific history in terms of this
(development or increase over time/series of events or things) of thought has its attractions, Gould
argues, but it misses an extremely important discovery and an extremely important science, the
science being (the study of rocks), and the discovery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(related to Charles Darwin s ideas of evolution) (change for the better, over time), for example, rests
on the idea (you think is true) that the chance processes of natural selection must have very long
periods of time in which to develop and to allow (related to studying numbers) advantages to change
the shapes of species. Yet not long before Darwin s lifetime and a little bit during it it was the majority
opinion even among learned men that the Earth was something like six millennia old, a period of very
much the same length as known human history. In contrast, modern science classes are given some
image or other of human history that pushes it away to the last second of the twenty four hour day
which represents the age of the Earth, or that says, even more (in a way that ignores other people s
feelings), that if the age of the Earth were to be measured as a traditional English yard, the distance
from nose to outstretched fingertip, then one stroke of a nail file on the middle fingertip would erase
the whole time in history of people/(the kindness of

1 Peter Analysis
F. Lecture 19 1 Peter
Word Count: 565
1. Summarize the typical evangelical reconstruction of the circumstances behind the writing of 1
Peter.
The letter attributes the writing to Peter. Similarities in style with Acts and the Gospels seem to
confirm the attribution along with a lack of objections from the early church about authorship. Peter
probably used Silas as an amanuensis, accounting for the Greek style of the letter. The next verse
claims that the letter was written from Babylon , likely a code name used for Rome. This coincides
with tradition and with Paul s correspondence since, according to 2 Tim. 4:11, Mark went to Rome in
the mid 60 s. Thus, Peter is writing from Rome at the beginning of the Neronic persecution before his
martyrdom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is apocalyptic literature and what distinct rules of interpretation apply to it?
The genre of apocalyptic literature is varied but was well known in the first century and can also be
seen in other Christian and Jewish sources such as Daniel, Ezekiel, Zechariah, Jesus Olivet Discourse,
and portions of 1 and 2 Thessalonians. This type of writing makes extensive use of symbolism,
grotesque and outlandish imagery, and numbers infused with cryptic/symbolic meaning. It was often
written in times of crisis, and can depict past, present, and future events intertwined or leading to
moments of Godly intervention and triumph over evil forces.
Apocalyptic literature ought to be studied and analyzed in light of first century history. The most
important hermeneutical principle we can follow is, to make sense out of the text as a 1st century
Christian in Asia minor would have understood it, and not as a modern 21st century Christians
infusing meaning anachronistically into the text as it is often done. A literal interpretation is almost
always the wrong approach to interpret such

Classic Colonialism In Africa
1.) Classic colonialism in Africa developed a rule of the economic agenda to its citizens livelihoods
and health. Colonialism provided a small amount of modern health care, and many of the policies of
classic colonialism worsened the state of public health. As a result, this destabilized the average
African household, and gave an easy rise to larger cities, causing a new level of racism in Africa. After
World War two, Africans would turn to Islam or Christianity; and many (especially those who
participated in WW2) demanded independence. There were several forces that rose to the importance
of the independence movement. For example, the teachings from Western Muslim or Christian schools
led to an exposure of the political ideology that emphasized natural rights influenced the African elite
to push the need for independence. Another example includes the African National Congress, which
while not terribly effective, defended the interests of Africans. 2.) At the turn of the century, many of
Indians accepted their life under British rule. However, the racism and discrimination lead by the
Europeans inspired Hindus to create a political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Five Principles Of Retail
Building relationships with customers is basics step of success. Businesses spend millions trying to
attract new customers or win back lapsed ones and yet often neglect to develop their existing customer
relationships.
Successfully managing your customer relationships involves finding out about their purchasing habits,
their opinions and their preferences. Record their data and create profiles of individual customers.
Armed with this valuable information, marketing will become more effective and sales will increase.
Ask customers for information and feedback to create a complete picture. Customers sometimes need
to be asked more than once, so use multiple stages or complementary media. Dealing with complaints
properly can also teach a lot about the weaknesses in retail business. A retailer may also need to
rethink his operations to improve customer service and marketing. It s all about enhancing the
customer experience.
Five Principles of Retail
1. The customer is the most important person in a retailer s business: The customer holds the key to
every successful retail operation. Make your retail business more customer focused, and realize the
potential to make retail business a success. The main retail principle to master is the customer; the
customer should be the centre of retail business and everything retailer do, must revolve ... Show more

the length (the number of products in the product line), breadth (the number of product lines that a

relationship between products in their final destination) of product lines. Product mix is sometimes

The Epic Epics Of Antiquity
From the Homeric epics of antiquity to Shakespeare s plays in the seventeenth century stories have
long been used as a way to express commentary on and examine societal issues. Today s social
commentary becomes even more dynamic as we now also use visual mediums such as television and
movies as ways to convey these stories and they often work in conjunction with literature via
adaptations. Perhaps the greatest illustration of this cross market, storytelling are comic book
adaptations as seen with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which spans across not only movies, but has
expanded to also include multiple television shows. Last April, Marvel s years of story building that
spread over multiple movies came to a head with the blockbuster ... Show more content on

The narrative device of Project Insight correlates with fears over domestic spying and in film this is
taken to the next level as it s revealed to be part of a larger plot of the movie s villain Alexander Pierce
to kill thousands. The idea of control over the national security apparatus is weaved throughout the
movie and is one of the central themes throughout Captain America: The Winter Soldier , and I agree
with the belief that the narrative neglects the pertinent question of whether or not we should even have
and use these technologies to begin with (Rosenberg). Another point from the article that really digs in
at some of the failings of Captain America: The Winter Soldier relates back to the concept of trust in
the main characters. We are supposed to be fine with Fury s choice to shoot Pierce because we trust
him. And when Steve, Romanoff, and Fury send the Project Insight helicarriers into deadly crashes,
we are not supposed to be bothered by the massive, indiscriminate loss of life they just caused both
because they are our heroes, and because the movie tells us that everyone on board is a bad guy.

United for One
In the book, Outcasts United, by St. John, my favorite chapter is actually the first one. Chapter one is
all about Luma, the soccer coach of the refugees. The reason chapter one is my favorite is because she
reminds me a lot of myself. Luma wants to part from her parents and stay in the United States of
America. Her choice came with the consequences of her parents and sister not communicating with
her again if she chooses to stay in the US. Her grandma would still communicate about the family
until she passes away in a later chapter. Another example of why this is my favorite is because I can
relate to tons of it. My dad no longer talks to me due to me moving out at too young of an age. I
moved to the city to be closer to work and school but in his eyes I was sinning. This is also why I
think I relate most to Luma. There are other reasons why I think that I relate to Luma. Throughout the
whole book, Luma never wants to give up. For example in chapter nine, Get Lost , when Luma knows
she has to find a new field for her fugees to play on. According to St John, on page 93, the YMCA
calls and lets Luma know they found a field for her. She never gave up on her high hopes. Luma
always wanted the best for her players. I am just like Luma, as I never give up on things. My number
one struggle I never give up on is my exercise. Luma has a great strength in her hopes. She honestly
doesn t care about anyone s negative opinions. It is crazy how much I think I relate to Luma. Just

People with dementia gradually lose their previous skills, as well as other executive mental

their daily living activities like dementia does. Dementia is therefore quite separate from the

Vygotsky And Vygotsky s Theory Of Cognitive Development...

Thought and Language: independent processes.
With the passing of time, the development of thought and language has been the object of study for
psychologists such as Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky. The former drastically influenced the study of
thought and speech with his theory of cognitive development and his clinical method. The latter also
made his contribution with his sociocultural theory. Although language and thought may be analysed
as associate one to the other, both of them may be considered as independent and dynamic processes
which belong to different roots. Considering the book Thought and Language by Lev Vygotsky, it
might be possible to debunk the fundamental concepts of Piaget and Vygotsky s theories and to
expand on their main differences.
As regards language, Piaget and Vygotsky coincided on the inkling that the development of language
is an intricate interaction between a child and the environment. Both psychologists opined that when a
child accomplishes the development of language, a system of symbols is created in order to help them
comprehend the world. Nevertheless, they did not agree on how language and thought may interact in
the development of a child. According to Jean Piaget, the cognitive development of a child activates
the growth of language. Basically, that means that thought is going to appear before language.
Besides, it might be claimed that cognitive development

In 1908, a statue known as the Venus of Willendorf was found in a cave near what is now Vienna,

In 371 the Roman Empire adopted Christianity as its religion, this meant that they killed the priests of
the local religion; this included the Druids.
Between 540 through 604, Pope Gregory I had churches built on the sites of pagan temples. He
instructed his bishops to smash any idols and to sprinkle the temples with holy water and rededicate
them. After Gregory s death, they employed inquisitors, men whose job it was to go out and look for
non Christians whose beliefs or practices varied from what the church prescribed. They were branded
heretics, imprisoned, and eventually put to death. The document De ecclesiasticis disciplinis ascribed
to Regino of PrĂŒm describes popular notions of witchcraft in 906. It states that it is the duty of priests
to, instruct the people that these things are absolutely untrue and that such imaginings are planted in
the minds of misbelieving folk, not by a Divine spirit, but by the spirit of evil. In 1275, the first witch

I Will Revisit Russon s Definition Of Memory, And Three...
In this paper I will revisit Russon s definition of memory, and three of the aspects that he presents as
important in the memory process. I will also argue that our body play an important role for our
remembering, as does the objects we interact with. As well as present my position on Russon
description of memory demonstrating that Russon s description is indeed relatable to the actual human
experience. Russon s definition of memory is not subjected to one main idea, but rather an
intertwining of related ideas pertaining to experience. He views memory as, What we experience as
the determinateness of objects that communicates to us what we can and cannot do, (Russon 41). To
emphasize, we experience our world through interactions with the world s objects. The contact made
with these objects provides an identity for them that later communicates to us about ourselves. Russon
present this idea of memory based on two types of memory, implicit and explicit. Implicit memory are
memories that we remember in part, while explicit memory are those that we remember completely.
An example that Russon gives in another instance that connects to this is the idea of him terminating
his lease and having a few weeks remaining is inscribed in everything within his apartment. Each
object represents the identity of the future commitment of moving whether pervasively or
occasionally. However Russon thinks that for us to remember there are certain aspects that needs to be
involve. First is

Striving to Reach Your Goal in Doris Lessing’s Through the...
Through the tunnel is a story about a young boy, Jerry who visits the beach with his mother and soon
he is determined to pass through an underwater tunnel and prove himself capable of performing the
task. Despite the fact that the other people around him speak a foreign language, Jerry does not want
to lose his pride.
As described, the story takes place on what is considered to be a safe beach (182) and at the floor of
the beach is a wild bay, (182) high up among red brown rocks (182). The beach adds a warm feeling to
the story but the bay complements a darker mood and atmosphere, making the location dangerous.
The current time period seems to be more modern and portrays how people can easily travel from one
place to another without agonizing about other customs and languages, as Jerry is in a foreign country.
The story embarks as Jerry and his mother visit the beach, but Jerry s mother feels that he his grown
up enough to handle himself. She asks him, Would you like to go somewhere else? (182). After
hesitation Jerry replies, I d like to have a look at those rocks down there (182). This shows that Jerry is
growing older and wants to be like the older boys, who await him down at the bay. As the boys
welcome Jerry to the beach, even though they can t communicate; Jerry his happy to be with them and
learns about the tunnel and how they were going through it. As the story advances Jerry becomes less

Perfume
Perfume Commentary Throughout the story Perfume by Patrick Suskind, Grenouille is presented as an
outsider who is a product of both social and moral decay shown through his birth, description of the
setting and description of Grenouille s characteristics. Grenouille was born in the malodorous fish
market of Paris in the 18th century , where the 18th century was a period of tragedy and chaos where
foul smells were everywhere. Moreover, Grenouille being born in a fish market indicates the evil and
unnatural nature of Grenouille as he is born in the worst smelling, filthiest and unnatural place in
Paris. Even more, being born in a fish market in a pile of fish guts shows Grenouille as a victim of
social decay where society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grenouille is further conveyed as a victim of social decay when upper class supposedly high ranked
and highly respected people are portrayed as fools and almost idiots. Through Comic Irony Father
Terrier is seen as an uneducated fool and childish when using the phrase poohpeedooh . The repetition
of this phrase further illustrates the foolish nature of a highly respected person showing social decay.
Moreover, presenting the upper class in France as silly and foolish shows the decay of society and
how even foolish people such as Father Terrier are respected and looked up to making Grenouille a
victim to this social decay as well as an outsider as he does not respect these foolish upper class
people and does not follow the demands of society. Similarly, Grenouille is again seen as an outsider
when society refuses to accept him. His mother leaves him to die in a pile of fish guts and many others
refuse to take him in, leaving him as an unwanted outsider. Again this foreshadows his future actions
of violence and murder when society rejects him and many people act on their basic instincts and
leave him to die suggesting a sense of evil in him. Grenouille is further shown as an outsider when he
is described to have a lack of scent . This lack of scent clearly shows he

Symbols And Symbols In Ancient India
SYMBOLISM OF TREE, LOTUS, SERPENT WATER BODIES IN EARLY INDIAN
ARCHITECTURE Symbolism is the use of symbols or signs to represent symbolic meanings, ideas or
qualities. It s done by investing signs symbols and their possible meanings. In short, symbolism is the
system of symbols and representation. In early Indian architecture, symbols were widely used to
invoke different meanings. Symbols had mythical as well as philosophical meanings bestowed upon
them. So these symbols embody more a religious purpose than an artistic aesthetic purpose. Decoding
the different meanings of a single symbol itself is problematic. A single symbol itself carries a variety

The Bhopal Disaster
It has been widely understood that UCC and the Indian government utilized one major type of
management style that may have contributed to this disaster and is regarded as Top Down
management. This style is still in use today by many corporations, however it is recognized as only
being effective in certain situations (Fortun Embrary , 2001). For example, many corporations utilize
top down when a change needs to be implemented. Executives are able to directly lay out their
expectations and what is expected. More specifically, everyone knows the rules and regulations
developed by upper management, and follows them. However, regarding the Bhopal disaster, this
management style is ineffective because middle management has no power to ... Show more content

II. Since the Bhopal disaster we have gained invaluable insight on top down management strategies
and how they can still effective today versus in 1984. Top down strategies have been productively
used here in the United States, even before the Bhopal disaster, and are still utilized today. It is
because of disasters like Bhopal that we have been able to reanalyze and improve upon age old
strategies and make them more productive. Today, top down management is primarily used during
major change in a corporation s mission, or structure (Hicks, 2013). Researchers of the Bhopal
disaster have voiced their theories on this matter, and have said that middle management was partly
responsible because of their inability, or laziness to enforce regulatory safety and maintenance
protocols established by the Indian government, and UCC (Mac Sheoin Pearce, 2015). Since top down
management hinders the ability of the bottom level to effectively communicate with the upper level,
many aspects of the work required weren t necessarily ignored, they just weren t communicated

probably performed inadequately (Pearson Mitroff, 1993). Today, managers ensure they check in with

Appeasement Essay
Appeasement
The task of explaining why appeasement, has been continuously addressed by historians over the
years. To date, there is still no single cause identified. Nonetheless there is however a general
consensus amongst historians that the frightful events of world war one, distilled a sense of fear and
regret amongst British society, and consequently Britain strived to prevent any future war, through
whatever means necessary. In the aftermath of World War 1, lay a mutual understanding between the
British government and society that never again should a catastrophe such as World War 1 occur, it
was described as the war to end all wars reinforcing the view that it was a cataclysmic event which

As it became evident that the policy of appeasement had failed in 1939 and that Britain would in fact

appeasement We have eaten dirt in vain This statement is clearly expressing the fact that Britain has
tolerated the deceitful acts of Germany to no avail or successes. That the policy of appeasement was
deemed to fail from the onset. Concluding that the policy was pointless as it only prolonged the
inevitable. In order to make an informed conclusion to whether or not appeasement was the correct
policy to pursue, it is essential to look at the events and debates leading up to the out break of world
war 2. The system of collective security, which was in part demanded by the British Public, came in
the form of The League Of Nations. This was to be a system in which international disputes between
nations would be settled by negotiation.
The responsibility of the League was to act as an arbitrator in disputes between nations and to provide
effective collective security against any form of military aggression.
There were mixed opinions towards the League. Alan Sharp had referred to the League of Nations as a
compromise agreement, which pleased none of the parties involved. It was also referred to by
Marshall Foch, the military commander in chief of the allied armies at the end of the war as, this is not
peace. It is an armistice for twenty years .

Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment
Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and climatic model (CLM 4.5) outputs were
conducted over the southern part of the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS) (area: 835 × 103
km2) in Sudan and Chad to estimate the natural recharge rate. The Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System
(NSAS) is shared by Egypt, Libya, Chad, and Sudan, and is one of the largest (area: ~ 2 × 106 km2)
groundwater systems in the world. Findings from the study include: (1) average annual precipitation
was estimated at 77.5 mm (65 km3); (2) recharge rate was estimated at 2.79±0.99 km3/yr; given the
annual extraction rate (~0.407±0.10 km3), recharge rate amounted to 3.2±1.00 km3/yr; and (3) the
east west trending Uweinat Aswan uplift impedes south to north groundwater flow and replenishment
from the recharge area in the south. A cost effective integrated approach is developed to quantify the
modern recharge of the NSAS during the period from January 2003 to December 2012.
1. Introduction
Groundwater recharge is the process of water movement downward through a saturated zone under the
force of gravity or in a direction determined by a hydraulic condition (Simmers, 1997). Natural
recharge of groundwater may occur from precipitation, from rivers and canals, or from lakes. In arid
and semi arid areas, assessment of groundwater recharge is one of the key challenges in determining
the sustainable yield of aquifers, as recharge rates are generally low in comparison with average
annual rainfall or

Descriptive Narrative
I remember packing my bags like it was yesterday. Although I ve been excitedly anticipating this trip
for months, I would of course pack my bags the night before. Nevertheless, I was going to Belize! Our
school organized a trip of which seniors, who were a part of the Environmental Science course, could
go on an eight day adventure in the vast jungles of Belize and explore the party island itself San
Pedro. While the other four students (five total including myself) had trouble departing the school
along with their loved ones, there was me who was impatiently waiting and eagerly ready to go. I
mean come on, it was just eight days in a foreign country without cell service; however, that was the
adrenaline speaking. Before I knew it, we arrived at LAX. I felt my stomach begin to knot as we were
boarding the plane. Having extreme motion sickness wasn t the best trait to have at that time.
However, I endured the nausea and managed the aches knowing there was a new world ahead of me.
Entering Belize, the amount of green I saw was immeasurable. And better yet, the colored people were
just as abundant. I could already tell that this trip would be one for the books and what a big book that
would turn out to be. We were immediately greeted by our tour guide Manuel, whose humor and
benevolence carried us through our trips entirety, and created for each of us timeless and precious
memories. Without Manuel, and of course his trusty sidekick Beto who drove the tour bus, we wouldn

There are many points to be made for different direction on who is to blame. It s obvious that Hitler
isn t fully the one to blame, there are many others too. Such as the Minor Nazi soldiers and the SS
officers who designed and executed the Final Solution for Hitler, leaders of the Allied countries who
had evidence of the Holocaust but refused to get involved. Some people may argue on who is
responsible for the Holocaust. It s believed that Hitler is one of the main causes of the Holocaust.
Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazi Germany from 1934 to 1945. Hitler Initiated fascist policies
that led to World War II and the deaths of at least 11 million people, including the mass murder of an
estimated 6 million Jews. Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, in Braunau am Inn, Austria. He
was the fourth child out of six children. As a child Hitler s father regularly beat him during his
childhood, it was not unusual for discipline to be enforced in that way during that period. By 1900,
Hitler s talents as an artist had arisen. He didn t do well enough in school to be qualified for either the
university preparatory gymnasium or the technical/scientific Realschule. Then well along had a course
in drawing, Adolf accepted his father s decision to enroll him in the Realschule. He did not do well
there. Later his father died after suffering a pleural hemorrhage when Hitler was thirteen.

Democracy Promotion By The Eu And Democratization Via...
Exporting democracy? Democracy Promotion by the EU and Democratization via Eastern European
Partnership
With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States and many other
developed countries have begun to pay more attention to their policy of democracy promotion in the
countries of the former communist bloc. As ex President Clinton declared in his second State of the
Union address in 1995, Ultimately, the best strategy to ensure our security and to build a durable peace
is to support the advance of democracy elsewhere followed by his rhetoric, utopian statement, The
world s greatest democracy will lead a whole world of democracies.
Here will be provided a definition of democracy promotion, name of some of the promoters, and list
the goals of democracy promotion.
Do Western democracy promoters seek to protect basic civil and political liberties or do they aim to
promote state interests under the disguise of democracy ?
As a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union, new independent states were emerged and it was the
time for the European Union (EU) to stretch towards its eastern neighbor countries in order to build
relationships and bring them closer to the EU by promoting democracy. Alongside with the
democratization of non western countries, the primary goals of the EU was to establish a political
community, to deepen and strengthen free trade zones, and as well as to abolish the visa regime within
those eastern countries. In

Ipv6 And Ipv6 Address Resolution Protocol
Since there are so many IP addresses that need to be handled on the Internet, IPv4 and IPv6 need a
way to keep track and configure them. This is normally referred to as address resolution. This includes
translating network layer addresses into link layer addresses, having automatic assignments of
addresses, and routing data to the correct location on a specific network. IPv4 uses a protocol called
Address Resolution Protocol, or ARP, in order to translate IP addresses into MAC addresses. A MAC
address is the unique number given to the network interface card in each computing device. The
reason this needs to be done is because on many intranet networks, the internal communication and
delivery of data is based off of the MAC address rather than the IP address. The Dynamic Host
Control Protocol, or DHCP, handles the automatic configuration and assignment of IP addresses in
IPv4. DHCP is an internal protocol that takes the MAC addresses of the NICs on a network, and
automatically assigns IP addresses. It also keeps track of them so that two NICs don t acquire the same
IP address. Without DHCP every IP address would have to be entered manually by the system
administrator, which would be incredibly difficult considering how many devices can potentially
access a network. IPv6 uses similar methods to perform both of those functions, but there are still
important differences that exist to improve the way that IPv6 performs. Instead of ARP, IPv6 uses the
Neighbor Discovery Protocol

Commentary On The Book Oh Yeah, Audrey ! By Shaw
In Oh Yeah, Audrey!, published in 2014 by Amulet Books, Shaw tells the story of Gemma Beasley,
who sneaks away to New York City to meet with some friends and celebrate the life of Audrey
Hepburn. He is able to create an entire novel that takes place in the span of 26 hours using the times of
the day as the individual chapters. This is important because Gemma puts together an itinerary for the
weekend but throughout the story, different problems arise which causes them to keep changing their
schedule. It is revealed in the beginning that Gemma co owns the blog, Oh Yeah, Audrey!, with her
Internet friends, Bryan and Trina. They decide to finally meet in person for the first time in New York
City. They make it to breakfast on time, which was scheduled for 7 a.m. and plan on going to all the
Breakfast at Tiffany s landmarks when Telly arrives. On the blog, there was a certain person that
always left hateful comments named Telly. They find out that she only commented those things
because she was jealous of how skinny Audrey was. They forgive her and let her join their group for
the rest of time. Telly also informs them that there would be an Audrey Hepburn wardrobe auction that
day, which they decided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hugo Chavez Economy
When Hugo Chavez ushered in his era of 21st Century Socialism in 1999, the people of Venezuela
expected an era of prosperity. During the oil boom of the early 2000s, Venezuela s state owned oil
industry funded over half of Chavez s social programs and conditions started to improve. The standard
of living increased, inequality and poverty rates fell, and Chavez generated a cult like following.
Economic and social conditions increased significantly, but so did inflation and poor policy. After
Chavez s death in 2013, Nicolas Maduro, his handpicked replacement, took the reins. After only a
year with Maduro at the helm, the Venezuelan economy collapsed as the global oil market fell from

Once we finished reading October Sky, we were left with an immense feeling of satisfaction. Homer
Hickam portrays in his memoir what times were like in the coal mining days of southern West

Rocket Boys. Furthermore, the book inspires you to follow your dreams and to not give up when times
are hard. Therefore, without a second thought, we rate this book a five. We would recommend this
touching and nostalgic memoir to anyone. October Sky is about a teenage boy named Sonny Hickam,
who lives in the small town of Coalwood, West Virginia. Faced with an uncertain future, Sonny tries

A Day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art I. Jan van Eyck s Last Judgment Jan van Eyck was active
since 1422 and died in 1441. He was the most celebrated painter of the fifteen century in Europe. One
of his famous works is The Last Judgment . At first sight this work immediately attracted my
attention. The painting s stunning colors and the fact that it reminded me of a previous similar work I
have seen, triggered in my mind. The material that is used is oil on canvas, transferred from wood.
The size of this work is 22 1/4 *7 2/3 in. (56.5 * 19.7cm). As I closely approached the painting I began
to realize the differences between Jan van Eyck and Michelangelo s Last Judgment . Contrary to

The first sight of this painting extremely moved me. In this work, no other figures are represented and
the setting is not recognizable. In the depth of his eyes one can see the suffering and pain for our
human sacrifice. As well as this one can also see the holy look on the facial expression as he gently
carries the cross. On the cross, above the left hand in Greek letters, domenikos theotokopoulos epoiei
is written. Christ Carrying the Cross is one of the most intriguing work of art. It belongs to Robert
Lehman collection since 1953. Its size is 41 3/8 * 31 in. (105 * 79 cm) and the material used to make
it is oil on canvas. III. Pendant mask; Iyoba 16th century The artist s name is Benin and he is from

height is 9 3/9 in (23.8 cm). This mask is an image of a woman. An image of a woman is very rare in
Benin s tradition. However, this work of art represents the legacy of a continuous dynasty. This mask
is believed to be designed for Benin s King s mother. It is also believed that this mask was used to
commemorate king s mother. The color of the mask is white, a symbol of purity. On the mask, one can

Nietzsche s Iliad As A Demonstration Of A Single Nature...
Nietzsche interprets Iliad as a demonstration of a single nature of power among the Greeks that leads
to the brutal war. Simone Weil disagrees with Nietzsche and believes Iliad to be a representation of
two forces, might and courtesy, which she calls gravity and grace (Simone Weil Handout, passage # 2,
pg 2). Nietzsche considers only one perspective of the Iliad, the cruelty of power, in contrast, Weil
examines both the good and the brutality shown in Homer s epic. Weil thinks of Homer s epic to be
exhibiting the misery of the war, along with some sparks of grace (IC 48). Overall, Nietzsche thinks of
Homer s Iliad only to be a celebration of competition derived by the will to power, whereas Weil
considers Iliad as not just a representation of the rule by might, but also showing moments of courtesy
through the savagery of war (NR 355).
Nietzsche argues that Iliad is all about the constant battle of strife driven by the will to power in life.
As he says ...life simply is the will to power (NR 355). Here, Nietzsche is saying that everyone in Iliad
takes action in order to gain honor and power. For example, when Agamemnon returns his prize
Chryseis, he says Achilles to give him his prize, Briseis because it would be a dishonor for him to be
without a prize (SHI 5). This starts a conflict between the two, as Achilles says that it s better for him
to return home, than being unhonored by giving up his prize (SHI 6). Nietzsche further mentions that

Garcia-Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings Essay
Garcia Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings Symbolism is often used to subtlely
enhance a story s meaning by adding emphasis and details to the story line. However, Garcia
Marquez, in A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , cloaks his tale for children in a dreamlike
quality conveyed purely through symbolism. Clues to his intended meaning can be drawn from the old
winged man whom the story revolves around, from the metamorphous of the family who take him in,
and from outsiders reaction to this phenomenon. The old winged man symbolizes those that are
different and perhaps alien. He also represents those who are unable to contribute in any traditional

Elisenda s conception of charging the inquisitive for a peek at the angel brought great wealth to the

yet do not wish to repeat the experience. This fact is evidenced in the design of their mansion: ...high

healthy schoolboy. This young boy is the only one who never knows the angel to be foreign, and

several myths have arisen regarding the Provincetown Players founding, leaving the group s

by the vacationing artists, and their stage moved to a fish house turned makeshift theatre owned by
Player members Joe and Mary O Brien. It is this construction that came to be the company s first

organization fueled by the response their productions generated the year prior. Now newly renovated
(with the installation of electricity) and cleaned, the Wharf was ready to set the stage for the Players
first bill of three plays which sold out at 50 cents per ticket in no time. This proved a huge success and
led to a series of plays throughout the entire summer, all now performed at the Wharf Theatre. The
Players also caught the eyes of the media, and received rave reviews in the Chicago Post and the
Boston Globe (Pictured above). It is interesting to note

Usability and Web Accessibility
Assistive devices and technologies come in a wide assortment each designed to address specific
limitations and help those with those limitations lead a normal or close to normal lifestyle. These
devices can help address problems with hearing loss, or voice, speech, or language based
communications. A great number of devices and technologies are now available to help those with
limitations access and use the internet in ways never before possible.
Understanding Web Usability
In order for a website to effectively deliver content to the user, several key factors must be present.
First, the website must be available and accessible. Availability is a straight forward concept where the
website must be reachable and functioning. The accessibility of a website is a bit more of a
complicated issue. According to the Web Accessibility Initiative, Web accessibility means that people
with disabilities can use the web. More specifically, Web accessibility means that people with
disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web and that they can contribute
to the Web (Henry, 2005).
Next, a website must have clarity. Clarity refers to a websites ability to provide visitors with the
information they are looking for. This can be accomplished by designing the website with simplicity,

Using all the transactions in the data set, determine the revenue maximizing price for Copa. Here is a
step by step approach: a) Fit a logit price response curve to the data using the MLE approach
discussed in class. (NOTE: For better numerical precision and to get good results in Excel, use prices
in 100s. That is if the quote is $150 per person for a contract, use $1.5 per person in the MLE
calculations.) b) Based on the fitted logit curve, what is the price (per person) that maximizes expected
revenue per event? What is the expected revenue per transaction for that price? c) Assuming the
annual number of inquiries remains the same, what would be the total expected revenue for the
company if the price you determined in part (b) is used? How does the annual expected revenue
compare to the total revenue earned by Copa in 2007? 2) Analyze the data to determine whether there
are multiple price segments. a) What is your segmentation criterion? Explain clearly. b) What is the
revenue maximizing price for each segment? What is the expected revenue for each transaction in that
segment? (You have to repeat the analysis in part (1) for each of the segments.)

Article Summary And Synthesis Essay
The author of this article wrote about a recent discovery of the fossils of a new human like species that
are sparking controversy among several paleoanthropologists. According to the article, the remains
were retrieved by a group of slim excavators from the inside of a deep South African cave. The age of
the bones were found unclear due to the fact that it had been buried in sediments of numerous layers.
Close examinations showed that the fossils had the same traits as several other species in the genus
Homo. The skeletons had similar skulls, legs, and ankles while other traits such as their fingers and rib
cages were slightly different to accommodate other methods of movement. Paleontologists from
various parts of the world have reasoned whether or not they believe that the discovered remains had
any actual relation to the human species. Nonetheless, the researchers believe that any new
information from the bones could help them find out its origin, age, distribution, and deposition into
the cave. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

they carry out their duties discovering ancient items and places, and then examining them to uncover

  • 2. John Gould Analysis the discoveries in physics of Sir Isaac Newton finally laid to rest the idea that the Earth might be the center of the universe; the (study of living things/qualities of living things) of Charles Darwin made it hard to believe that human beings were different in kind from the rest of the animal kingdom; and, later, the mental explanations of Sigmund Freud left it impossible to hope even that human beings were owners of a basically clear and sensible mind. Organizing scientific history in terms of this (development or increase over time/series of events or things) of thought has its attractions, Gould argues, but it misses an extremely important discovery and an extremely important science, the science being (the study of rocks), and the discovery ... (related to Charles Darwin s ideas of evolution) (change for the better, over time), for example, rests on the idea (you think is true) that the chance processes of natural selection must have very long periods of time in which to develop and to allow (related to studying numbers) advantages to change the shapes of species. Yet not long before Darwin s lifetime and a little bit during it it was the majority opinion even among learned men that the Earth was something like six millennia old, a period of very much the same length as known human history. In contrast, modern science classes are given some image or other of human history that pushes it away to the last second of the twenty four hour day which represents the age of the Earth, or that says, even more (in a way that ignores other people s feelings), that if the age of the Earth were to be measured as a traditional English yard, the distance from nose to outstretched fingertip, then one stroke of a nail file on the middle fingertip would erase the whole time in history of people/(the kindness of ... • 3. 1 Peter Analysis F. Lecture 19 1 Peter Word Count: 565 1. Summarize the typical evangelical reconstruction of the circumstances behind the writing of 1 Peter. The letter attributes the writing to Peter. Similarities in style with Acts and the Gospels seem to confirm the attribution along with a lack of objections from the early church about authorship. Peter probably used Silas as an amanuensis, accounting for the Greek style of the letter. The next verse claims that the letter was written from Babylon , likely a code name used for Rome. This coincides with tradition and with Paul s correspondence since, according to 2 Tim. 4:11, Mark went to Rome in the mid 60 s. Thus, Peter is writing from Rome at the beginning of the Neronic persecution before his martyrdom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is apocalyptic literature and what distinct rules of interpretation apply to it? The genre of apocalyptic literature is varied but was well known in the first century and can also be seen in other Christian and Jewish sources such as Daniel, Ezekiel, Zechariah, Jesus Olivet Discourse, and portions of 1 and 2 Thessalonians. This type of writing makes extensive use of symbolism, grotesque and outlandish imagery, and numbers infused with cryptic/symbolic meaning. It was often written in times of crisis, and can depict past, present, and future events intertwined or leading to moments of Godly intervention and triumph over evil forces. Apocalyptic literature ought to be studied and analyzed in light of first century history. The most important hermeneutical principle we can follow is, to make sense out of the text as a 1st century Christian in Asia minor would have understood it, and not as a modern 21st century Christians infusing meaning anachronistically into the text as it is often done. A literal interpretation is almost always the wrong approach to interpret such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Classic Colonialism In Africa 1.) Classic colonialism in Africa developed a rule of the economic agenda to its citizens livelihoods and health. Colonialism provided a small amount of modern health care, and many of the policies of classic colonialism worsened the state of public health. As a result, this destabilized the average African household, and gave an easy rise to larger cities, causing a new level of racism in Africa. After World War two, Africans would turn to Islam or Christianity; and many (especially those who participated in WW2) demanded independence. There were several forces that rose to the importance of the independence movement. For example, the teachings from Western Muslim or Christian schools led to an exposure of the political ideology that emphasized natural rights influenced the African elite to push the need for independence. Another example includes the African National Congress, which while not terribly effective, defended the interests of Africans. 2.) • 5. Five Principles Of Retail Building relationships with customers is basics step of success. Businesses spend millions trying to attract new customers or win back lapsed ones and yet often neglect to develop their existing customer relationships. Successfully managing your customer relationships involves finding out about their purchasing habits, their opinions and their preferences. Record their data and create profiles of individual customers. Armed with this valuable information, marketing will become more effective and sales will increase. Ask customers for information and feedback to create a complete picture. Customers sometimes need to be asked more than once, so use multiple stages or complementary media. Dealing with complaints properly can also teach a lot about the weaknesses in retail business. A retailer may also need to rethink his operations to improve customer service and marketing. It s all about enhancing the customer experience. Five Principles of Retail 1. The customer is the most important person in a retailer s business: The customer holds the key to every successful retail operation. • 6. The Epic Epics Of Antiquity From the Homeric epics of antiquity to Shakespeare s plays in the seventeenth century stories have long been used as a way to express commentary on and examine societal issues. Today s social commentary becomes even more dynamic as we now also use visual mediums such as television and movies as ways to convey these stories and they often work in conjunction with literature via adaptations. Perhaps the greatest illustration of this cross market, storytelling are comic book adaptations as seen with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which spans across not only movies, but has expanded to also include multiple television shows. Last April, Marvel s years of story building that spread over multiple movies came to a head with the blockbuster ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrative device of Project Insight correlates with fears over domestic spying and in film this is taken to the next level as it s revealed to be part of a larger plot of the movie s villain Alexander Pierce to kill thousands. The idea of control over the national security apparatus is weaved throughout the movie and is one of the central themes throughout Captain America: The Winter Soldier , and I agree with the belief that the narrative neglects the pertinent question of whether or not we should even have and use these technologies to begin with (Rosenberg). Another point from the article that really digs in at some of the failings of Captain America: The Winter Soldier relates back to the concept of trust in the main characters. We are supposed to be fine with Fury s choice to shoot Pierce because we trust him. And when Steve, Romanoff, and Fury send the Project Insight helicarriers into deadly crashes, we are not supposed to be bothered by the massive, indiscriminate loss of life they just caused both because they are our heroes, and because the movie tells us that everyone on board is a bad guy. • 8. United for One In the book, Outcasts United, by St. John, my favorite chapter is actually the first one. Chapter one is all about Luma, the soccer coach of the refugees. The reason chapter one is my favorite is because she reminds me a lot of myself. Luma wants to part from her parents and stay in the United States of America. Her choice came with the consequences of her parents and sister not communicating with her again if she chooses to stay in the US. Her grandma would still communicate about the family until she passes away in a later chapter. Another example of why this is my favorite is because I can relate to tons of it. My dad no longer talks to me due to me moving out at too young of an age. I moved to the city to be closer to work and school but in his eyes I was sinning. This is also why I think I relate most to Luma. There are other reasons why I think that I relate to Luma. Throughout the whole book, Luma never wants to give up. For example in chapter nine, Get Lost , when Luma knows she has to find a new field for her fugees to play on. According to St John, on page 93, the YMCA calls and lets Luma know they found a field for her. She never gave up on her high hopes. Luma always wanted the best for her players. I am just like Luma, as I never give up on things. My number one struggle I never give up on is my exercise. Luma has a great strength in her hopes. She honestly doesn t care about anyone s negative opinions. It is crazy how much I think I relate to Luma. Just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Vygotsky And Vygotsky s Theory Of Cognitive Development... Instituto Modelo Almafuerte English and Its teaching Delvalle, AilĂn Florencia Thought and Language: independent processes. With the passing of time, the development of thought and language has been the object of study for psychologists such as Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky. The former drastically influenced the study of thought and speech with his theory of cognitive development and his clinical method. The latter also made his contribution with his sociocultural theory. Although language and thought may be analysed as associate one to the other, both of them may be considered as independent and dynamic processes which belong to different roots. Considering the book Thought and Language by Lev Vygotsky, it might be possible to debunk the fundamental concepts of Piaget and Vygotsky s theories and to expand on their main differences. As regards language, Piaget and Vygotsky coincided on the inkling that the development of language is an intricate interaction between a child and the environment. Both psychologists opined that when a child accomplishes the development of language, a system of symbols is created in order to help them comprehend the world. Nevertheless, they did not agree on how language and thought may interact in the development of a child. According to Jean Piaget, the cognitive development of a child activates the growth of language. Basically, that means that thought is going to appear before language. Besides, it might be claimed that cognitive development ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Essay on The History of Wicca The history of Wicca is often debated by different people. It technically started in 1954, but was based on a mix of ancient religions. We will briefly cover the history of Wicca from caveman days all the way up to modern times in the following paragraphs. In 1908, a statue known as the Venus of Willendorf was found in a cave near what is now Vienna, Austria. Archaeologists believe that the figure comes from 24,000 and 22,000 B.C. Similar statues have been found in a large area of Europe. The Venus of Willendorf has become a symbol of prehistoric art. Between 540 through 604, Pope Gregory I had churches built on the sites of pagan temples. He instructed his bishops to smash any idols and to sprinkle the temples with holy water and rededicate them. After Gregory s death, they employed inquisitors, men whose job it was to go out and look for non Christians whose beliefs or practices varied from what the church prescribed. They were branded heretics, imprisoned, and eventually put to death. The document De ecclesiasticis disciplinis ascribed to Regino of PrĂŒm describes popular notions of witchcraft in 906. It states that it is the duty of priests to, instruct the people that these things are absolutely untrue and that such imaginings are planted in the minds of misbelieving folk, not by a Divine spirit, but by the spirit of evil. In 1275, the first witch is burned to death after judicial sentence of an inquisitor, in Toulouse, France. 1374, Pope Gregory XI declares that all magic is done with the aid of demons and thus is open to prosecution for heresy. 1424, when Joan of Arc was 13, she heard a voice from God, telling her to help the French king to be in battle. • 12. I Will Revisit Russon s Definition Of Memory, And Three... In this paper I will revisit Russon s definition of memory, and three of the aspects that he presents as important in the memory process. I will also argue that our body play an important role for our remembering, as does the objects we interact with. As well as present my position on Russon description of memory demonstrating that Russon s description is indeed relatable to the actual human experience. Russon s definition of memory is not subjected to one main idea, but rather an intertwining of related ideas pertaining to experience. He views memory as, What we experience as the determinateness of objects that communicates to us what we can and cannot do, (Russon 41). To emphasize, we experience our world through interactions with the world s objects. The contact made with these objects provides an identity for them that later communicates to us about ourselves. Russon present this idea of memory based on two types of memory, implicit and explicit. Implicit memory are memories that we remember in part, while explicit memory are those that we remember completely. An example that Russon gives in another instance that connects to this is the idea of him terminating his lease and having a few weeks remaining is inscribed in everything within his apartment. Each object represents the identity of the future commitment of moving whether pervasively or occasionally. However Russon thinks that for us to remember there are certain aspects that needs to be involve. First is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Striving to Reach Your Goal in Doris Lessing’s Through the... Through the tunnel is a story about a young boy, Jerry who visits the beach with his mother and soon he is determined to pass through an underwater tunnel and prove himself capable of performing the task. Despite the fact that the other people around him speak a foreign language, Jerry does not want to lose his pride. As described, the story takes place on what is considered to be a safe beach (182) and at the floor of the beach is a wild bay, (182) high up among red brown rocks (182). The beach adds a warm feeling to the story but the bay complements a darker mood and atmosphere, making the location dangerous. The current time period seems to be more modern and portrays how people can easily travel from one place to another without agonizing about other customs and languages, as Jerry is in a foreign country. The story embarks as Jerry and his mother visit the beach, but Jerry s mother feels that he his grown up enough to handle himself. She asks him, Would you like to go somewhere else? (182). After hesitation Jerry replies, I d like to have a look at those rocks down there (182). This shows that Jerry is growing older and wants to be like the older boys, who await him down at the bay. As the boys welcome Jerry to the beach, even though they can t communicate; Jerry his happy to be with them and learns about the tunnel and how they were going through it. • 14. Perfume Perfume Commentary Throughout the story Perfume by Patrick Suskind, Grenouille is presented as an outsider who is a product of both social and moral decay shown through his birth, description of the setting and description of Grenouille s characteristics. Grenouille was born in the malodorous fish market of Paris in the 18th century , where the 18th century was a period of tragedy and chaos where foul smells were everywhere. Moreover, Grenouille being born in a fish market indicates the evil and unnatural nature of Grenouille as he is born in the worst smelling, filthiest and unnatural place in Paris. Through Comic Irony Father Terrier is seen as an uneducated fool and childish when using the phrase poohpeedooh . Moreover, presenting the upper class in France as silly and foolish shows the decay of society and how even foolish people such as Father Terrier are respected and looked up to making Grenouille a victim to this social decay as well as an outsider as he does not respect these foolish upper class people and does not follow the demands of society. Similarly, Grenouille is again seen as an outsider when society refuses to accept him. His mother leaves him to die in a pile of fish guts and many others refuse to take him in, leaving him as an unwanted outsider. Again this foreshadows his future actions of violence and murder when society rejects him and many people act on their basic instincts and leave him to die suggesting a sense of evil in him. It s done by investing signs symbols and their possible meanings. In short, symbolism is the system of symbols and representation. In early Indian architecture, symbols were widely used to invoke different meanings. Symbols had mythical as well as philosophical meanings bestowed upon them. The Bhopal Disaster It has been widely understood that UCC and the Indian government utilized one major type of management style that may have contributed to this disaster and is regarded as Top Down management. This style is still in use today by many corporations, however it is recognized as only being effective in certain situations (Fortun Embrary , 2001). For example, many corporations utilize top down when a change needs to be implemented. Executives are able to directly lay out their expectations and what is expected. More specifically, everyone knows the rules and regulations developed by upper management, and follows them. Since the Bhopal disaster we have gained invaluable insight on top down management strategies and how they can still effective today versus in 1984. Top down strategies have been productively used here in the United States, even before the Bhopal disaster, and are still utilized today. It is because of disasters like Bhopal that we have been able to reanalyze and improve upon age old strategies and make them more productive. Today, top down management is primarily used during major change in a corporation s mission, or structure (Hicks, 2013). Researchers of the Bhopal disaster have voiced their theories on this matter, and have said that middle management was partly responsible because of their inability, or laziness to enforce regulatory safety and maintenance protocols established by the Indian government, and UCC (Mac Sheoin Pearce, 2015). Since top down management hinders the ability of the bottom level to effectively communicate with the upper level, many aspects of the work required weren t necessarily ignored, they just weren t communicated effectively to employees. Even if communicated effectively, employees were unmotivated and probably performed inadequately (Pearson Mitroff, 1993). Today, managers ensure they check in with their ... The Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS) is shared by Egypt, Libya, Chad, and Sudan, and is one of the largest (area: ~ 2 × 106 km2) groundwater systems in the world. Findings from the study include: (1) average annual precipitation was estimated at 77.5 mm (65 km3); (2) recharge rate was estimated at 2.79±0.99 km3/yr; given the annual extraction rate (~0.407±0.10 km3), recharge rate amounted to 3.2±1.00 km3/yr; and (3) the east west trending Uweinat Aswan uplift impedes south to north groundwater flow and replenishment from the recharge area in the south. A cost effective integrated approach is developed to quantify the modern recharge of the NSAS during the period from January 2003 to December 2012. 1. Introduction Groundwater recharge is the process of water movement downward through a saturated zone under the force of gravity or in a direction determined by a hydraulic condition (Simmers, 1997). Natural recharge of groundwater may occur from precipitation, from rivers and canals, or from lakes. • 23. Ipv6 And Ipv6 Address Resolution Protocol Since there are so many IP addresses that need to be handled on the Internet, IPv4 and IPv6 need a way to keep track and configure them. This is normally referred to as address resolution. This includes translating network layer addresses into link layer addresses, having automatic assignments of addresses, and routing data to the correct location on a specific network. IPv4 uses a protocol called Address Resolution Protocol, or ARP, in order to translate IP addresses into MAC addresses. A MAC address is the unique number given to the network interface card in each computing device. The reason this needs to be done is because on many intranet networks, the internal communication and delivery of data is based off of the MAC address rather than the IP address. The Dynamic Host Control Protocol, or DHCP, handles the automatic configuration and assignment of IP addresses in IPv4. DHCP is an internal protocol that takes the MAC addresses of the NICs on a network, and automatically assigns IP addresses. It also keeps track of them so that two NICs don t acquire the same IP address. Without DHCP every IP address would have to be entered manually by the system administrator, which would be incredibly difficult considering how many devices can potentially access a network. IPv6 uses similar methods to perform both of those functions, but there are still important differences that exist to improve the way that IPv6 performs. Instead of ARP, IPv6 uses the Neighbor Discovery Protocol ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Nietzsche s Iliad As A Demonstration Of A Single Nature... Nietzsche interprets Iliad as a demonstration of a single nature of power among the Greeks that leads to the brutal war. Simone Weil disagrees with Nietzsche and believes Iliad to be a representation of two forces, might and courtesy, which she calls gravity and grace (Simone Weil Handout, passage # 2, pg 2). Nietzsche considers only one perspective of the Iliad, the cruelty of power, in contrast, Weil examines both the good and the brutality shown in Homer s epic. Weil thinks of Homer s epic to be exhibiting the misery of the war, along with some sparks of grace (IC 48). Overall, Nietzsche thinks of Homer s Iliad only to be a celebration of competition derived by the will to power, whereas Weil considers Iliad as not just a representation of the rule by might, but also showing moments of courtesy through the savagery of war (NR 355). Nietzsche argues that Iliad is all about the constant battle of strife driven by the will to power in life. As he says ...life simply is the will to power (NR 355). Here, Nietzsche is saying that everyone in Iliad takes action in order to gain honor and power. For example, when Agamemnon returns his prize Chryseis, he says Achilles to give him his prize, Briseis because it would be a dishonor for him to be without a prize (SHI 5). This starts a conflict between the two, as Achilles says that it s better for him to return home, than being unhonored by giving up his prize (SHI 6). Nietzsche further mentions that Where I ...
