Ethics, Sexual Harassment, And Bullying
I felt very connected to this week s discussions, not because I ve personally been involved in
discrimination, sexual harassment, or bullying but because I spent a lot of time managing
through these issues when I worked as an Operations Manager for Borders, Inc. At any given
time I had ~250 employees and managers in a distribution center reporting to me on three shifts,
six days a week. It was rare that I didn t have some pending issue that required a Human
Resources perspective and these issues were very common themes. I ve never understood why
someone would choose to expend energy on any of these actions but always considered my role
as one that could protect others when it did occur. As we ve discussed, having established
policies that are frequently communicated allows employers to react swiftly to correct any issues
that arise. This was the case when I worked at Borders and it is today at HCA so I feel
comfortable everything possible is being done to discourage and prevent these actions from
occurring. Privacy is a very touchy subject these days and the knife seems to cut both ways when
it comes to who should know what, and when they should know it. On one hand, the privacy of
consumer information becomes a bigger concern every day as companies are hacked and
information is stolen. There are laws that mandate what companies must to in order to protect this
information but I also feel that organizations have their own internal obligation to do what s right for

The Development Of Diabetes Mellitus
Specific cells of the pancreas produce a hormone called insulin to correct metabolism. Without
this hormone, glucose cannot enter body cells and blood glucose levels rise. As a result, the
individual
may begin to experience symptoms of hyperglycemia. Plainly expressed, this process is the
development of diabetes mellitus. Numbers have increased in recent years because so many
Americans are overweight. Also, testing accuracy has improved, therefore confirming more cases.
The
number of people with diabetes is expected to double as more people live to middle and old age.
There
are a few different classifications of Diabetes. Two of the common ones are: *Type 1(Formerly
known
as type I; insulin dependent diabetes mellitus[IDDM]; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This buildup of glucose in the blood is called hyperglycemia. The body is unable to use the
glucose for energy. This leads to the symptoms of type 1 diabetes.
The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown. Most likely it is an autoimmune disorder. This is a
condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body
tissue. With type 1 diabetes, an infection or another trigger causes the body to mistakenly attack
the cells in the pancreas that make insulin. The tendency to develop autoimmune diseases,
including type 1 diabetes, is hereditary. (Wisse, MD, 2015) The following symptoms may be the
first signs of type 1 diabetes. Or they may occur when blood sugar is high: being very thirsty,
feeling hungry ,feeling tired all the time ,having blurry eyesight, feeling numbness or tingling in
your feet, losing weight without trying, urinating more often (including urinating at night or bed
wetting in children who were dry overnight before) For other people, these serious warning
symptoms may be the first signs of type 1 diabetes. Or, they may happen when blood sugar is very
high (diabetic ketoacidosis): deep, rapid breathing, dry skin and mouth, flushed face, fruity breath
odor, nausea or vomiting; inability to keep down fluids, stomach pain.
Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can develop quickly in people with diabetes who are taking
insulin. Symptoms usually appear when a person s blood sugar level falls

Love has been called you and me referring to the two lovers (line 17). Personification of love has
given it a significant presence. Love makes a lover feel imprisoned in the jail of love (line 18). In
other words, love keeps you go back to your lover again and again. Even when the two lovers are
physically separated from each other, they can feel the presence of love in their lives (line 19).
The feeling of love is so great that it doesn t know any bounds. It transcends all boundaries of

The Tempest Research Paper
Harmonious Dissonance In The Tempest, William Shakespeare uses the Prospero and Caliban s
servant/master relationship and the motif of magic and power to portray that destruction and
confliction will result when there is an external or internal imbalance between the disordered
Dionysian intoxication and the disciplined Apollonian order. Caliban, who resentfully serves
Prospero, represents the impulsive Dionysian servant whom the Apollonian master counteracts.
Caliban is out of control, even stating that he wishes to have violated the honor of Miranda due to
his hate of Prospero. The growing resentment for Prospero within Caliban leads him to plot
Prospero s demise with his newfound party of intoxicated drunkards, Stephano and Trinculo, whom
Caliban ironically reveres as nobles. Caliban, Stephano, and... Show more content on

The rise of Caliban, who is drunk with retaliation, represents an imbalance between the Dionysian
impulse and Prospero, who represents Apollonian order. Caliban s plans foreshadow this conflict
and destruction, as he plots to get his island back no matter what the expenses are. This imbalance
between the Dionysian intoxication and impulse and the disciplined, rational, Apollonian order
can also be internally present. Prospero represents the intellectual Apollonian figure, who keeps
impetuous threats like Caliban in check. However, Prospero was once ironically a figure of his
own Dionysian factor, creating an internal imbalance between the opposing factors. Prospero
expresses that he was once intoxicated by his Apollonian studies, as his state was growing stranger
in his increasing submersion to his world of books. This leads Prospero to neglect and lose sight of
his government responsibilities, increasingly turning over the power of Duke to his brother
Antonio, who in turn becomes intoxicated and infatuated with the key of officer and office.
Antonio s intoxication of power creates conflict as he overthrows Prospero

Comparing Superman And Me By Sherman Alexie And Salvation...
After contemplating the purpose of a memoir several things came to mind. I believe it can serve
to be cathartic for the writer as they can be set free by working through certain events in their
life. Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, I think a memoir can serve as a way to for the
writer to tell their story in a vivid way that allows the readers to feel like they are living the
experience and perhaps to learn a valuable lesson from their story. Therefore, I chose to analyze
two memoirs they were Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie and Salvation by Langston
Hughes. I concentrated on trying to determine the purpose of each piece in order to indicate
what pivotal aspects were employed that either helped or hindered them in achieving that
purpose. First, In the memoir by Alexie the overall purpose was to indicate how being able to
read afforded him the ability to overcome intense social and cultural pressures that were imposed
upon him merely because of his race. I believe Alexie was able capture the aforementioned
purpose of his work in a clear and impactful way. For instance, early on he stated that how he had
discovered what a paragraph was even before being able to read. Moreover, he stated that [t]he
words inside a paragraph worked together for a common purpose. They had some specific reason
for being inside the same fence. (Alexie 1). Thus, the statement by Alexie was designed to invoke
the thought process of the reader and guide them through his experience in

The Dual Party Bill
Criminal Justice reform has dramatically increased lately, and has become a current issue amongst
all states and more than enough voters mandating a response from Congress.
On October 1st, 2015, Charles Grassley whom is from Iowa and is the Republican Senate Judiciary
Committee Chairman led the proposal Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act of 2015. The dual
party bill was also supported and sponsored by Richard Durbin (Democrat from Illinois), Cory
Booker (Democrat from New Jersey), Patrick Leahy (Democrat from Vermont), Mike Lee
(Republican from Utah), Sheldon Whitehouse (Democrat from Rhode Island), John Cornyn
(Republican from Texas), Lindsey Graham (Republican from South Carolina), and Chuck Schumer
(Democrat from New York). The purpose of the dual party bill is to diminish the amount of federal
mandated conditions that are in relation to drug and gun sentencing provisions. This also includes
arranging to make the new provisions subsequent; raise the release exemption to the drug mandated
sentence minimums; due to the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 to develop to be subsequently
operational, and reward incarcerated prisoners the capability to save credits for the time they have
served already when attending rehabilitation programs.
The bill was endorsed by a divided vote of the Judiciary Committee on an election poll of 15 to 5 on
October 22, 2015. For the bill to become an active law, there were a number of things that they
would need to undergo for it to be. The

Technology As A Way Of Life And Express
The new generation of students entering and already enrolled in university are members of a
digital age growing up surrounded by many forms of digital technology as they are the first
generation of youth to have internet technology easily available at their disposal. This current
generation have already been labelled by sociologist as digital natives (Prensky 2001a) and the
net generation (Tapscott 1998) (Prensky 2001a; Tapscott 1998 as cited in Murphy 2010).
Technology is not something new to these students as its presence in their life have made them
quite comfortable to the idea, as they perceive technology as a way of life and express a need to
feel connected at all times (Russo et al. 2014). Although what is new are the... Show more content

As university professors are being presented with new types of students, there is a call to integrate
advanced technology into their course design, and ultimately, educators must lead the way and use
the technology in a fashion that positively aids their students: technology should be used with the
needs of the learners in mind and with the goal of improving student learning as the focus (Russo et
al. 2014). If this idea is implemented and acknowledged correctly, then many advantages can arise
that enhance student learning in university classrooms. The first benefit of instructors introducing
advanced technology into their teaching is that technology connects with students, which
ultimately arouses their interest because technology as a whole is a relevant and important part of
student s lives. When students are interested and engaged in the class material they become
motivated to pay attention and focus on what they are being taught, which leads to an improved
retention rate of information. This relates to the DVD that West, Pudsey and Dunk West created for
teacher to give to their students to work within their learning, and they found that it easily
assimilates into their everyday life world (2010). Another advantage is that the use of technology
supports collaboration skills within students. Erin Murphy (2010) conducted an experiment
centering around educators use of Audience Response Systems, commonly

What Happens When The Reward Outweigh The Hefty Cost
I.Attention Getter: Have you ever wondered why you decided to keep a job after your boss does
something ruthless or why you would do something you did not want to do in order to keep your
relationship healthy? The scenarios Pam Halpert, Jim Halpert s wife, and Oscar Martinez, the
homosexual accountant, face in the TV show The Office, shows what happens when the reward
outweighs the hefty cost. II. Thesis: Through arrogance and sacrifice, social exchangetheory occurs
in business relationships, and personal relationships throughout the film.
Preview: In this presentation, I will define social exchange theory and its role in relationships. I will
then apply this theory to those relationships in the TV show The Office. Finally, I will state why it
is the most important theory when deciding whether or not to pursue or terminate a relationship.
(Transition: Let s first look at the theory and its role in relationships.)
Body
I.According to the about education website, Crossman states social exchange theory is a model for
interpreting society as a series of interactions between people that are based on estimates of rewards
and punishments. Rewards come in many forms: money, gifts, hugs, romance, social recognition
and so on. Cost or punishments also come in many forms: humiliation, beating, crying, sacrifice, etc.
A. Social exchange theory is an important process of interaction that occur between people, whether
it is from a personal or formal standpoint. This

Business Intelligence ( Bi ) And Business Analytics
Business intelligence (BI) and business analytics (BA) (sometimes used interchangeably) has
revolutionized the way businesses use data and can be contrasted, for the purpose of this essay,
in the following way: BI is raw data that has been transformed into meaningful information that
provides historical, current, and predictive views of business operations and environment, and
BA uses data and statistical methods to provide actionable information for decision makers. BI
explains what is happening, identifies the issue, and provides decisions to be made and BA
explains why an issue is occurring, what will occur, and what actions need to be taken. At the
forefront of BI/BA technology is International Business Machines (IBM) with a very broad array
of related products and services. Among the more popular products are its flagship analytics
product IBM Cognos and its Predictive Customer Analytics. IBM s Cognos Analytics allows
business and IT professionals to prepare and distribute all types of business reports from all
departments with an organization and access pertinent information such as financial reports, sales
trends, production yields, and inventory on any device on an hourly basis. IBM also offers a
Predictive Customer Intelligence solution, an integrated software which uses automation to acquire
customer information such as buying behavior, web activity, and social media presence to model

Analysis Of Annette Lareau s Unequal Childhoods
After reading Annette Lareau s book, Unequal Childhoods , I gain a better understanding of how
my childhood affected the person I am today and the person I will become. This book
categorizes Americans in classes of poor class, working class, and middle class; Lareau studies
multiple families in each of these classes, including different races. In the following essay, I will
apply the same concepts Lareau used in her book to my own life.
Daily Life My Mother, Dawn, grew up in a working class family with her parents separated and
trying to make ends meet with her Dad and two siblings. She graduated high school and went on to
work at McDonalds for a few years, before she got married. My father, Jerry, grew up poor
moving different houses every year with his mom, step dad, and five other siblings. His father
died when he was three and his step father died when he was about thirteen. Jerry dropped out of
high school without completing the ninth grade so he could work to provide for his mom and
other siblings. Dawn and Jerry married and had their first child in 1988, a daughter named
Brittany. In the same year my family moved into a predominantly white neighborhood in the
town of Okalona, right by the busy streets of Preston Highway and Outer Loop. The house is
brick and was built in the early 1940 s, it is two stories with four bedrooms and two baths, with
two garages, a swimming pool, and big back yard, the house sits on .94 acres of land. Jerry
worked as a painter in the union since he was 16 and always had the aspirations of owning his
own business. Dawn stayed home to care for the home and the children. Two years after Brittany
was born, they had another daughter named Ashley in January of 1990. At this point Jerry was
still working at the Union as a painter and was attempting to start his own painting business. In
1993, Jerry was contracted with a construction company building 20 new houses a year, this was
the start of his painting company. All through the 90 s and early 2000 s Jerry and his paint crew
were working seven days a week painting store after store and house after house. He had three
work vans and two nine man crews going non stop. This is what led the family s social class to

Silicon Valley Discrimination
1.Silicon Valley is an extremely competitive place to work. Many multi billion dollar company s
headquarters like Google, Apple, Pinterest, and Facebook are located here. These companies want
the best of the best for every position in their company and in most cases, they are able to have it.
I do not think affirmative action is needed in the situation of computer coders. Affirmative action
helps make all things equal or nearly equal, it promotes the least advantaged. It helps keeps negative
discrimination to a minimum. The students from Howard think that they are being discriminated
against because they are African American when in reality they are being discriminated against
because they do not have the skills that the other candidates have. In this case, the discrimination is
not bad. If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Some of the students who were talked about in the article said they have been learning code
since a young age. These students clearly had more skills when entering into college than those
who don t know coding at all. This gave them the ability to get into schools with accountable

since this is where the people with the most skills will be. Since everything is seen as dollars and

Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad
Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious
amount of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate,
and destiny are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars
going on during that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading
both Aeneasand Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the
role of the gods is to make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliadfocuses on the end of
the Trojan Warand the damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the
war and underlies the foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the
comparison of the role of gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have
influence on the lives of mortals. In both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were
chosen by gods because they have gained favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they
were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were
also very specific on who they would help. The gods determined the destiny of the mortals.
Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have become favorable in the eyes of the
gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because they stand out from ordinary men
by having a great military and physical prowess.

The s Genetic Information For Medical Or Cosmetic...
CGE is a way to modify one s genetic information for medical or cosmetic purposes. But in this
paper I will only consider the cosmetic purposes, since CGE for medical reasons seem to be
morally unproblematic. The main premise in this paper is that since CGE is safe, legal,
voluntary, and widely accessible, there is nothing morally problematic for someone to choose to
undergo CGE themselves or to choose it for their children. And if this premise is true, then it
would also be true that there is nothing morally problematic for engineers to design, construct, or
maintain products which are intended to enable people to engage in CGE in safe, legal, voluntary
and widely accessible ways. Firstly, I will confirm that the premise is true and how it makes the
conclusion true as well. Secondly, I will point out Sandel s arguments against the premise, which
suggest that the premise might be false. Thirdly, I would object to one of Sandel s points using my
own arguments. Then, I would point out how others, who may sympathize Sandel, may argue
against my objections. Finally, I would conclude the final judgment based on all the arguments
made.
If cosmetic genetic engineering is safe, legal, voluntary, and widely accessible, then there is
nothing morally wrong or problematic for someone to choose to undergo it because there is nothing
wrong or problematic to have great gifts such as strong big build, multi talented brain, good at ethics
class and many more. Through genetic lottery , it is

Trial of Temple Anneke Essay
Predetermined Justice
Witchcraft in early modern Europe was understood to be the combination of maleficium and
diabolism. The term maleficium refers to the actual act of witchcraft, which was believed to be
harmful magic or sorcery. Allegations of maleficium were simply the foundation for the crimeof
witchcraft. Diabolism is what made witchcraft a crime because it involved trading oneself for
magical abilities from the Devil (xxv).
With regard to religion during early modern Europe, it was highly regarded. There was no direct
separation between church and state. Witchcraft was acknowledged as an act against God, as well
as a capital offense. The Carolina, which was the imperial criminal code....of Emperor Charles V ,

Tempel Anneke was accused of crimes that were, for the most part, uncontrollable events.
Unfortunately for Tempel Anneke, during this time people were quick to assume witchcraft as the
source of their problems or any negative unexplainable event. There was very little knowledge
about healthcare at this time so it was a common practice to just blame it on the witch.
The initial questions Tempel Anneke was asked pointed out the similarities between her and what
were thought to be the characteristics of a witch. When the interrogator questioned her age and
means of personal finance, she did not state her age but did say that she was a widow and lived
with her son on his farm but did perform healings when needed. She was then questioned about her
education and religious practices. She responded by saying she had learned how to heal people
from observing her mother. Also, she testified that she knew the commandments but had not been
to the table of the Lord or the Holy Communion in two years (15). It did not help that she was not
looked up to in the community but was part of the lower class. According some of the testimony by
her accusers, most people thought that Tempel Anneke was a crazy, old drunk.
As questioning continued, she was asked about specific crimes that she had been accused of
committing. After the testimony had been taken from

Task Switching Essay
Running Head: Time Cost, Task Switching, Repeating Tasks
Task Switching Cost s Time
Brooklyn College City University of New York
Abstract
A replication of Task Switching Monsell 2003 experiment was done, which predicts a time cost
when switching tasks. 18 participants had to complete 100 randomized trials, switching between
task repeat and task switching trials. Reaction Times (RT) were recorded and reflected by
experimenters, to determine that there is a time cost involved when switching tasks as opposed to

When switching between tasks our brain goes between two different programs one for example for
counting and one for reading, therefore costing us time to switch between these two tasks. In this
experiment we tried to replicate the Monsell 2003 Task Switching experiment. 18 Participants
took a brief task switching test via program Revolution Maker . Each trial was randomly assigned.
The participants were presented with numbers one through nine and on each trial had to react to
the number, to identify either its odd or even or if the magnitude was either less than 5 or more
than 5. We hypothesis that when individuals are engaged in a cognitive task there is a time cost
that occurs when asked to switch between tasks as opposed to repeating tasks.
Methods
Participants:
18 undergraduate students from Brooklyn College participated in this study.
Materials:
A task switching experiment designed on the computer program Revolution Maker
Procedure:
Participants were led to an isolated lab room were they participated in a task switching
experiment. They were involved in 2 tasks a magnitude test and an odd even task. There was 100
randomly assigned trials 50% task switch and 50% task repeat that were completed by the

How Water And Sunlight Affects Plant Growth
Review of Literature
Introduction How Water and Sunlight Affect Plant Growth
Photosynthesis is how water and sunlight affect plant growth. According to The Merriam Webster
Dictionary the definition of photosynthesis is the process by which chlorophyll containing plants
make carbohydrates from water and from carbon dioxide in the air in the presence of light . This
basically means photosynthesis is the process that all green plants undertake to receive their needed
food and energy using sunlight, water (H2O), and carbon dioxide (CO2). So water and sunlight
affects plant growth by helping the process of photosynthesis, which then helps the plant receive
energy and food.
Photosynthesis is essential, not only for plants, but all living things especially humans. As stated
before, photosynthesis helps plants receive their needed food and energy, which helps them grow
and stay alive. Photosynthesis is not just helpful for plants though. Plants produce various things
we use in life such as wood, paper, food, lumber, fuel, etc. That is not the only thing plants produce
for us. They produce oxygen for all human life and other living things to breathe. Without
photosynthesis there would be little plant life. Without plants there would be little human life.
Therefore, photosynthesis is extremely vital for all forms of life.
The process of photosynthesis is pretty complex. Sunlight and water are both very crucial elements
of this process. Here are the steps of the photosynthesis

Coyote, Skunk, and the Prairie Dogs
Coyote, Skunk, and the Prairie Dogs
While I find it rather creative to imagine a skunk and a coyote to conspire together to murder
prairie dogs and rabbits, and although I feel I am doing a disservice to hundreds of years of
Navaho storytellers, I am going to attempt to creatively edit parts of the story Coyote, Skunk,
and Prairie Dogs as a written works, and retool it so that it makes more sense as a modern
children s fairy tale. Not that children would be interested in a story about killing and eating
prairie dogs, but I am going to attempt to keep the plot, storyline and outcome as similar to the
Navaho trickster tale as possible.
Some things that I feel could be improved is the story needs more description of the events for better

Significance Of Magna Charta
Magna Charta is a Great Charter agreed by King John of England in 1215. It was an important
symbol of political freedom. Charter became a part of English political life but after English
Parliament passed new laws, it lost its significance. After hundreds years Magna Carta was used
by Parliament to protect itself from a powerful king. It gave no real freedom to the majority of
people in England. Magna Charta was a peace treaty between the King and the rebel barons. The
nobles wrote it and forced King John to sign it. They wanted to be sure that John didn t go beyond
his rights as feudal lord. Magna Charta established common laws which replaced the old feudal

Quinceanera Tradition
A Quinceanera is the Hispanic tradition of celebrating a young girl s coming of age her 15th

responsibility. The Quinceanera tradition celebrates the young girl (la Quinceanera), and recognizes
her journey from childhood to maturity. The customs highlight God, family, friends, music, food,

did win in that all the states ratified the document, they also compromised to the Anti federalists and
a Bill of Rights was created additionally. This pleased both sides, the Anti federalists and

Essay on Sweatshops
Sweatshops in the United States
Americans love to shop. With malls everywhere you go, shopping just might be America s favorite
past time! When you are out shopping though, do you ever stop to think where all of those clothes
and shoes come from? When I was younger, well, actually until recently, I always thought they were
all made by machines. Shirt machines, pants machines amp;#8230;you get the picture. I have
learned, however, that for the most part, clothes are still made on sewing machines, by people, and
often under circumstances that we can only imagine.
Sweatshops have always been a problem in the Unites States, especially during the past century.

In some cases, I ve learned, with brute force. On August 2, 1995, the Department of Labor raided
a factory in El Monte, California. There they found 72 garment workers, mostly Thai and
Mexican immigrants, being forced to work 17 hours a day at wages between $.60 and $1.60 and
hour. They were literally held captive at the factory by barbwire and armed guards. Employees
were threatened with rape and violence if they attempted escape. The El Monte sweatshop was
finally discovered when an employee escaped through a ventilation shaft.
In many sweatshops, however, the workers are there voluntarily. Even the meager wages earned are
more than the undocumented immigrants workers would earn in their home countries. As long as
there is a supply of willing workers, sweatshops will flourish.
So what can be done? How can the sweatshop problem in the United States be resolved? Is there
even a plausible solution? Through my research for this speech I have discovered that everyone
seems to have a solution, yet putting the solutions into action is another thing altogether.
Of the many solutions to the problem, the main, and most obvious solution, is government
regulation. The Department of Labor monitors the garment industry, but with 800 inspectors for
22,000 garment contractors, in addition to 6 million American

Why the World isn t flat
Though the volume of globalization is in increasing pace, the value to globalization hasn t been
recorded high. If we look at the data, countries trade is mostly bilateral with the nearby country. The
geography and distance among countries still matter when it comes to international trade.
If we talk about the outsourcing of work, only the standardized work that is principle based such as
accounting, data management, coding, etc. can be transferred to other geographic location because
of cost advantage, location advantage, and productivity there. The disruptive and innovative ideas
are worked in a team having brilliant talent which can t be outsourced. One such example is of
Sweden, which stands 7th in world top innovators index and ranks 3rd in terms of patent filing
among 183 countries in the list. It is because of the excellent education system (ranking 12th among
183 countries) and high level of technological adoption and ITC usage (ranking 11th and 4th
respectively). Practicing such disruption with the people from other countries takes a lot of time and

Collins Class Conflict Model
Lastly, Collins (1990) criticizes the class conflict model for its neglect of Black women s unpaid
domestic labor. This labor is domestically located within Black women s extended families. It
involves their contributions to Black family well being, such as keeping families together and
teaching children survival skills (Collins 1990: p. 44). From slavery to modern times, Black women
have been disproportionately engaged in the home. During slavery, Black women found solace in
the private, domestic sphere with their families, thereby resisting the exploitation that existed in the
public sphere. After emancipation, Black women hoping to solely focus on their domestic duties in

From The Outset Of The Twenty-First Century, Capitalism
From the outset of the twenty first century, capitalism appeared to be the most dominant economic
force the world had ever seen. With a free market reaching across the globe and countless nations
embracing its economic success, capitalism s influence and prestige had never been greater.
However, recent economic struggles on a global scale may have inclined a change of heart among
capitalisms heirs; a Harvard Institute of Politics poll found that only 19% of Americans, ages 18
29, identified themselves as capitalist (Foroohar 26). When combining the poll s results with the
possibility of polarizing labor changes in the future, capitalism appears to be at risk of losing its
place on the throne. Despite the doubts surrounding the economic... Show more content on

Although capitalism stands for relief and freedom, the economic system tends to express a few
side effects. For instance, twenty first century capitalism has had the tendency to widen the gap
between the poor and the rich. Pope Francis current head of the Catholic Church has expressed
his discontent for capitalism s imbalances and lack of real concern for human beings in several
addresses to the public (Huddleston). The Pope s disgust with capitalism lies in the growing
inequality being creating between the poor and the rich. Pope Francis sees capitalism s inequality
as inexcusable; thus, he advocates for an economic system which takes greater social
considerations. Regrettably, the inequality which can be created by capitalism plays into the hand
of another adverse side effect. Stewart Lansley economist and financial journalist describes in a
Political Quarterly article inequality s relationship with capitalism s economic cycles; more equal
societies have softer business cycles [while] more unequal economies are associated with more
extreme cycles (Lansley 754). Business cycles both good and bad are an integral part of capitalism.
The size of booms and busts depends on wealth equality. Fortunately, the negative aspects of
capitalism are manageable, and healthy capitalism can still hold its dominance over current
economics.
Even when considering capitalism s flaws, its continued dominance in the twenty first century is

The Treatment Of Bulimia Nervosa
Author: Haley McDaniel, Pharm.D. Candidate
Date Answered: November 2, 2015
Question:
47. Should topiramate be considered for the treatment of bulimia nervosa?
Answer: The drug Topiramate is a sulfamate substituted derivative from the monosaccharide D
fructose that is known for its anticonvulsant and antimigraine actions.1 Therefore, it is helpful for
patients with seizures and migranes. Epilepsy is a specific example of what this drug is used to
treat. Topiramate is different from other antiepileptic drugs because it is thought to block the
spreading of seizures instead of lowering the threshold like other antiepilepsy drugs. 2 Although the
exact mechanism that Topirmate cannot be identified, it is currently being observed from
biochemical studies. Scientist have observed that the drug blocks voltage dependent sodium
channels, augments the activity of gamma aminobutyric acid, antagonizes the AMPA/kainite
subtype of glutamate receptor, and inhibits carbonic anhydrase. 1 Should this medicine be used to
treat bulimia nervosa? Bulima nervousa is a disease that causes patients to engulf large amounts of
food in a short amount of time, which then causes them to take action by purging or taking
laxitives to get rid of the large sum of food they consumed. 3
There was a study that used a randomized, Double Blind, Placebo Controlled Trial, to test if
Topiramate had an effect on the behavior, body weight, and quality of life related to health in
patients suffering from

The Physics Of Quantum Computers
My topic is quantum computing. We can say that quantum computers are likely to move out of
science fiction and research labs and into practical applications. A quantum computing is way faster
than a normal pc. Google already have one and make many test online. A quantum computer is a
new complex technology. This computeris not available for us yet. This new engine represent a lot
of new possibility for us. Some person tell that the teleportation would be available, but this is too
far. Old computers can t afford all what a quantum computercan do, and that mean one day they
will disappear. Quantum computing has a lot of benefice, for example, it uses superposition, help
to improve the actual technic by solving problems that are too complex for today s computational
systems, and are have a lot of requirement to work properly.
Quantum computer are fascinating. Even better, a quantum computer is a computer design which
uses the principles of quantum physics to increase the computational power. A traditional computer
can t reach the same level of power or operations. A quantum physics is the study of matter and
energy at the molecular, atomic, nuclear, and even smaller microscopic level. Also, thanks to
superposition and entanglement, a quantum computer can process a vast number of calculations

Overview of the Natural Gas Industry
Natural Gas Industry Employee
Cover Letter
I am currently working as a natural gas regulator assistant inspector on a full time basis. Basically
this position required me to work in a formal apprenticeship, and I was trained and became
familiarized with all the important particulars of this job.
What my trainers made very clear to me is the importance of workers in the natural gas industry
having a deep understanding of all the implications relating to safety. There have been some
catastrophic explosions due to leaking gas pipelines in recent years, and energy companies want to
hire people that are very alert, intelligent, and who are willing to learn and be good listeners during
training and once on the job.
I am one of those quality employees. I feel fortunate to have this position, and moreover, I have
conducted research into the industry giving particular attention to the specifics of my own job,
duties and responsibilities and I present that information through this report. Learning well,
following directions, and being competent are things my family taught me, and I do believe I am
well suited for my position and will be able to climb the ladder and be given more responsibility
as time goes by and my supervisors become confident in my aptitude and my work ethic.
Abstract

addition to the quality assurance and economic aspects, there are important safety aspects

The World Is A Dangerous Place
In the words of Albert Einstein The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people
who are evil, but because of the people who don t do anything about it. The importance of these
words and the desire to pursue my Master degree in Science in Global Studies and International
Relations came to me as an epiphany, while roaming the streets of Brazil. After a decade of
working as a nuclear engineer, at one of the world s leading nuclear instrumentation companies, I
have encountered numerous issues such as nuclear waste disposable, non proliferation, and energy
independence. It is through these efforts that, I have come to realize that the greatest impediment to
solving these problems is often the labyrinth of political hurdles and deciphering the technical
implications of government standards. As an engineer, my world has been framed by logical
assessments and conclusions. I was brought up and taught to think critically, analyze, and solve
problems. I have been living in a microsphere of the nuclear industry and have come to the
realization that the true solution to a problem often lies not only in science but in diplomacy. For
example, a university in Egypt wanted to buy a monitor. The monitor they wanted to purchase did
not contain any nuclear material (but did allow for workers to check if they are contaminated with
nuclear material). This simple request became a rather interesting situation not only because my

American government always complies with Keynesian for a long time, and believes that the
reason that total social supply is not the same to total social demand is the lack of effective demand
(the analysis of American economy). So most of the successive governments implement the
expansionary deficit policies, in order to deal with cyclical fluctuations, and stimulate effective
demand artificially. Deficit policies are easy to make economic bubble to stimulate the excessive
consumption and promote market false prosperity, especially in the financial markets, it also has
contributed to raise inflation rates. Once the bubble bursts, the economic crisis would be coming.
Socialism is an economic system characterized by social ownership and cooperative management of
the means of production, and a political philosophy advocating such a system (Wikipedia). In
socialism, the government needs to control the whole market in order to promote the productive
power according to the current market situation. The main economic strategies are based on the
market and include more government control than socialism. This is the best advantages of
socialism because when the economic crisis was coming, the government could adjust the macro
control policies and introduced a series of initiatives to expand domestic demand and promote
economic development. It achieved success quickly and efficiency. But, socialism is easy to

Comparing The Fall Of The House Of Usher And Ligeia
The Fall of the House of Usher, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and Ligeia, there was an affinity
between the many characters of each one of the stories. There were also many other analogies in
the books so far as a situation, plot, setting, etc. In the story The Murders of the Rue Morgue, which
is a very mysterious story, the main action commences when the narrator and another man named
C. Auguste Dupin meet together because they are seeking for the same book at an ambiguous
library in Rue Montmartre. The two men read about a murderin a newspaper headline, then one
night they re staying at a hotel and hear a shriek from about the fourth floor above them in which
they call the cops in backlash to that. Once the cops had broken into the apartment, for the door
was locked, they found what seemed to be a murder scene for all of the blood and the hair on the
floor.
The police officers and the other two men react to the scene of what seems to be death by acting
concerned about finding what had happened and who it had happened to and who committed the
crime. In the story The Fall of the House of Usher it all starts with the character under the name
Roderick approaching a house which seems to be described as an evil feeling, for it is in a type of

The Civil War, By Harriet Beecher Stowe
Albert Einstein once said, You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play
better than anyone else. Honestly, what quote represents General Pierre Gustave Toutant
Beauregard better than that? It could be said that Beauregard, with his quick wit and
tremendous skill, was destined to play a vital role in the Civil War. Decades of tension and
rivalry between the North and the South led to the five year war between the states, more
commonly known as the Civil War. No one knows for certain what the true cause for war was;
some people claim it was slavery; some people insist it was state s rights. The main issues included
the South s dwindling political power, state s rights, expansion of slavery into the new... Show more

The five year war resulted in over 360,000 Union deaths and over 260,000 Confederate deaths,
with gruesome and bloody skirmishes and battles such as the Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest
single day of the war, and the Battle of Gettysburg, the bloodiest battle of the war . The war
ended in a Union victory after General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at
Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865 (historynet). But how did General Beauregard affect the
Civil War? To summarize, Beauregard played a key role in the Battle of Fort Sumter, the First
Battle of Bull Run, and was an excellent militant. Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard was born
on May 28, 1818, into a well respected Creole family. He was raised on a sugarcane plantation in
St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, which is just outside of New Orleans. Beauregard attended school
in New York City, but in 1834 he was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West
Point. He was popular, with nicknames such as Little Creole and Little Napoleon, and finished
second in his class when he graduated in 1863 (history). Beauregard married Marie Antoinette
Laure VillerГ© in 1841, and they had three children, Rene, Henri, and Laure before she died in
childbirth on March 21, 1850 (findagrave). He was an

The Intensity Of Ventral And Dorsal Streams
When someone looks at a picture, feedforward circuit conveys information to trigger lower
visual region, which is V1, and then travels to higher visual regions through the dorsal and
ventral streams. The brain areas are activated not at the same time, but instead it spreads out from
V1. The velocity of ventral and dorsal streams is different; the dorsal stream is much faster.
Feedforward is involved in pre attentive and preconscious vision, whereas recurrent connection is
involved in attentive and conscious vision. Since the attention binds all features of a specific
object, it needs longer latencies for this process by using recurrent connections (Lamme
Roelfsema, 2000). Furthermore, there are two ways to utilize sensory information, reactive mode
(feedback) and predictive mode (feedforward). In reactive mode, we do not know about the
sensory input until we get it. Thus, our system reacts and uses the information as feedback. As we
become better, less feedback is used, and the brainworks in a predictive way. For example, in novel
movements one uses the reactive way, because a lot of feedback is used, so the movement is
slow and is divided into many steps. Once one figures out the movement s requirements,
feedforward allows ones to move predictably. For example, if we want to catch a ball, there are
visual inputs traveling into the cortex through the two visual streams; the ventral stream, which
allows us to perceive what we are looking at the time that the dorsal stream

The Floating Egg
Eggs sink in regular tap water, but creating a saltwater solution... that s an egg citingly different
story.
We ve shown you how different sodas will either sink or swim in plain tap water, but what s the
deal with eggs? Drop as many eggs into plain tap water as you want, but they ll all sink to the
bottom. In the Floating Egg experiment, we ll show you how the addition of something as simple
as table salt, can drastically alter what happens to eggs in water.

Be sure to always wash your hands after handling uncooked eggs because they may carry
salmonella.
Pour one and one half cups of water into your large container.
Add one half cup of salt to the large container and stir to dissolve some of the salt (it will not all
dissolve yet).
Add one more cup of water to the large container (making two and one half cups total) and stir to
dissolve the remaining salt. The salt should be completely dissolved before you go on to the next
step. It may take several (five to 10) minutes of stirring, so you may need to be patient. Why do you
think it s important to start out with a solution that has such a high concentration of salt?
Arrange the five cups on a surface, going in a line from left to right. Label the cups 1 to 5. If you
are using plastic cups, you can use a permanent marker to label them. If you are using
nondisposable cups, you can use masking tape and a pen to label

Stalin s Impact On Russia
Stalinist Policies Set to Bring About Fruitful Changes Targeted at the Russian Society
By: Hashem Qaituqa
Under Stalin s regime, Russia is witnessing an era of rapid industrialization, and introduction of
social policies that will have a huge impact on Russian society. It is Stalin s view towards the west
that caused Russia to embark on the industrialization of the economy and military. Stalin fears that
if Russia remained agricultural, western interference might threaten it s stability in the future.
Furthermore, social policies such as compulsory education, improvements in health, and gender
equality were put and designed for the better of the nation, and to boost the morale of the people.
Stalin s View towards Western Nations
Western nations industrialized and their economies flourished. According to Stalin, if Russia did
not catch up with the race for industrialization, it will develop to become a weak country, and any
western intervention would bring about its end. Western nations have already industrialized and
enjoyed a transition towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Russia was to become a communist state that would certainly involve massive industrialization.
It is only that that could cause a transition from the old, agrarian Russia into a more advanced,
industrialized one. As Russia industrializes, more people will move to industrial centers and will
abandon rural areas, looking for better job opportunities and standards of living. Massive
industries are key contributors to modernization. The Five Years Plan set the aims of Russia s
industry, and as a result the production of steel, coal, iron and oil would eventually increase. New
factories were built, and there were improvements in the railway system to help transport goods.
Also, the military would later witness a huge modernization

Network And Computer Systems Become Universal And Exposed,...
INTRODUCTION As networks and computer systems become universal and exposed, security
threats and risks continue to grow more rapidly. This causes enormous threats; therefore, Security
specialists and experts are continuously trying to find solutions for these kinds of threats through
different methods like attack signatures and looking for methods to prevent them. Nevertheless, as
solutions are formed, new types of threats emerge, for example spam mails, spywares, worms and
Trojans just to mention a few.
A growing program problem in our technologically advanced society is the increase in security
related issues for small to medium industries (infosec reading room, n.d.).The digital age has also
appeared with a variation of benefits to organization such as Just Love and individuals. Information
technologies are becoming more broadly used every day. As networks and computer systems
become more pervasive, security threats and risks continue to grow more rapidly, therefore
transferring data from paper and pen environments to computer systems does not always happen.
Increasing complication and sophistication of the ever growing information technologies has
prompted unique and unparalleled challenges for organizations such as mine to protect their
information assets. The Internet is such a marvel that an organization today cannot operate without
it, but on the other hand too, living with the Internet also opens the organization to threats like
viruses, hackers and internet fraud

Marx And The Capitalist System
Throughout his many works (most notably Das Kapital) Marx criticized many aspects of the
capitalist system and how his socialist views held the key to freeing America from its otherwise
damned state. Here are some of the issues that Marx attributed to capitalism. He found that
modern work is alienated. Marx believed labor to be one of man s greatest sources of pleasure,
but in order to be fulfilled at work, workers would need to see an extension of themselves in the
objects they create. This was something that became increasingly rare in the modern world as
work tends to be more specialized. While specialized jobs make for an efficient economy they also
limit the possibility of any seldom worker to derive a sense of a genuine contribution... Show more

He called this primitive accumulation . In an attempt to remedy this injustice, Marx calls for the
redistribution of the wealth of the massive corporations that were making so much surplus money
into the hands of the people responsible for it. Marx also believed capitalism to be characterized by
a series of crises. These crises were caused by the fact that America is able to produce far more
than anyone needs to consume. Regarding human relation, Marx saw our system as the source
of great misery. Contrary to popular belief, Marx did not see the people of the West as evil . For
example, he was acutely aware of the sorrows that lay behind bourgeois marriage. The
bourgeoisie has torn away from the family its sentimental veil, and has reduced the family
relation to a mere money relation (Marx). Marx believed that the capitalist system forced people
to place economic interests at the heart of their lives and as a result they are no longer able to
experience deep and honest relationships. He called this commodity fetishism and wanted people
to be free of financial constraint. So what are some of the perceived benefits one could expect to
see within Marx s ideal socialist society? Firstly, Marx believed in equality before the law. Every
individual would be granted an equal stance and equal opportunity. There would be no fights for
social justice as there would be no dominant gender or race. Citizens would have immediate access
to education as well as the

Becoming A Supervisor
Based on the information I discovered from this final project, I would still like to be a supervisor.
I know that becoming a supervisor might be a challenge based on the supervisor informational
interviews that I received from Clarice Barrington and Earlene Johnson. However, I m
knowledgeable that a supervisor is a vital participant in the development of the workers that assist
them and also the department; this is the key motivator influence for me. As I would expect, there
is the financial motivationthat comes with every advancement, which is important when planning
for your future; however, that wouldn t be my main purpose because that will not keep unity
among the people that you are leading or help build your department. I would be in a supervisor
position for the wrong reason. The money will not allow me to demonstrate my leadershipabilities,
but my heart and mind will.
Furthermore, the interviewees information about their most dissatisfactions connected with their
occupation caused me to develop ideas of what I would do in a different ... Show more content on

When you work hard to advance to a supervisor position, you will have a story to tell which will
help someone else that wants to be a supervisor (just as these informational interviews and
personality fit have helped for myself). A position of supervisor would make me feel wonderful
for the reason that you are the leading person in charge, and you can develop others who in turn
will help develop the future of your department. I learned from this project that being a
supervisor is more than just giving orders or assigning worker s duties to perform every day. It
starts with examining yourself to see what personality traits you possess to see if your chosen
career will be enjoyable and satisfying. I consider that due to the assistance of this project,
someday I can advance to a supervisor

Impact Of Technology On Health Care Industry
Empirical Essay Main Idea The article, IT Based Capabilities, Service Innovation, and Quality in
Health Care, focuses on how there have been many developments in technology which could be
utilized to effectively deliver services within the health care industry (Thambusamy Palvia, 2011, p.
1). Through innovation, health care facilities are expected to provide top quality care to patients.
Technology has made that possible; however, prior to this study, it was unsure if the two had any
correlation. The research that was conducted involves the term service in the health care industry
(Thambusamy Palvia, 2011, p. 1). Three Important Facts One fact that the article emphases on is
the importance of how customers are demanding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5). If a medical facility believes that they are providing the best quality of service to the patients,
possible improvements will go unidentified. An example would be to reexamine the EHR
program that is being utilized periodically to determine if an upgrade or new program would be
more beneficial for the employees and patients. There are numerous EHR programs that are
being developed and/or constantly undergoing improvements. Although a program is effective
for the facility and patients, it does not signify that it is providing the best quality of care. Lastly,
health care facilities that use IT to improve their capabilities for service innovation and service
quality have the potential to enhance their organizations strategic and operational performance
(Thambusamy Palvia, 2011, p. 17). Innovation in the health care industry is pertinent for
providers to be able to ensure not only the quality of care is exceptional but also to contribute in
reducing medical errors. Allowing patients to have access to selected parts of their medical record
allows the patients to have an active role in their health. Ideas Our text and the article discussed
how IT can also be used by health care facilities to improve

Heritage Assessment
The increasing population of immigrants in the United States has contributed to health disparities
in the health care system. Cultural competence can remove health disparities by eliminating
personal biases, and treating every person with respect. Simply recognizing and accepting different
cultures is not enough, one must be able to consistently recognize and understand the differences in
order to be culturally competent. Knowledge and culturally competent practices are a must for
nurses to deliver quality care in our rapidly changing multicultural world (Edelman, 2014 p. 25).

Doctors are held in high respect and are expected to diagnose and treat illness in one visit. Drawing
blood for laboratory tests is feared because belief is that the blood cannot be replace. Surgery is
feared for this reason and is a last resort (Health Beliefs, 2011). In the European culture, primary

is good for the health and spirit. Dressing warm as to not catch cold is important (Cultural guide,
2014).
Health Protection Health protection is what one must do to protect health. There may be special
foods that must be eaten or avoided after certain events, or symbolic clothes to be worn. There
may be people that must be avoided or seen, or rituals to be performed. There may be religious
customs or superstitions to be considered (Cultural guide, 2014). I have had patients request to
have certain people at the bedside for a prayer or ritual before surgery. The patients are always
thankful for allowing and respecting their values. In the Chinese culture drinking ginger tea is a
means of protecting health and keeping the Yin and Yang in balance. For example, hot energy can
be cooled by a cool herbal tea, or cold energy can be warmed by warm herbal tea. The culture also
tends to protect their elders from bad news. For example, a son may divert the conversation

talks about the Hmong cultural group different beliefs compared to the American cultural beliefs.
Throughout the story you see the differences throughout three different stages. Each stage shows at
least one difference from the Hmong cultural belief, American cultural belief, and the techniques
and practices that were used when Lia was born. The main theme in this story is the difference in
how each stage handles giving birth to a child. In addition, to the differences there also happened

I choose the typical American birth for many different reasons. One of the reasons I choose the
typical American birth is because of safety reasons. If anything were to happen to the baby, or
my wife and would want to think she s in the best hands as possible by being at the hospital with
doctors who do that take of job. Another reason why I would choose the American way of birth
is because that is the most common one to me. I had never had the same experiences as a Hmong
group has had in their lives. We also live in a different time were the typical American birth is the
more standard for this period of time were if it was in the past then you can maybe consider them
for their birthing techniques. Even though I like the spiritual aspects of the Hmong group I would

  • 2. Ethics, Sexual Harassment, And Bullying I felt very connected to this week s discussions, not because I ve personally been involved in discrimination, sexual harassment, or bullying but because I spent a lot of time managing through these issues when I worked as an Operations Manager for Borders, Inc. At any given time I had ~250 employees and managers in a distribution center reporting to me on three shifts, six days a week. It was rare that I didn t have some pending issue that required a Human Resources perspective and these issues were very common themes. I ve never understood why someone would choose to expend energy on any of these actions but always considered my role as one that could protect others when it did occur. As we ve discussed, having established policies that are frequently communicated allows employers to react swiftly to correct any issues that arise. This was the case when I worked at Borders and it is today at HCA so I feel comfortable everything possible is being done to discourage and prevent these actions from occurring. Privacy is a very touchy subject these days and the knife seems to cut both ways when it comes to who should know what, and when they should know it. On one hand, the privacy of consumer information becomes a bigger concern every day as companies are hacked and information is stolen. There are laws that mandate what companies must to in order to protect this information but I also feel that organizations have their own internal obligation to do what s right for ... • 3. The Development Of Diabetes Mellitus Specific cells of the pancreas produce a hormone called insulin to correct metabolism. Without this hormone, glucose cannot enter body cells and blood glucose levels rise. As a result, the individual may begin to experience symptoms of hyperglycemia. Plainly expressed, this process is the development of diabetes mellitus. Numbers have increased in recent years because so many Americans are overweight. Also, testing accuracy has improved, therefore confirming more cases. The number of people with diabetes is expected to double as more people live to middle and old age. There are a few different classifications of Diabetes. Two of the common ones are: *Type 1(Formerly known as type I; insulin dependent diabetes mellitus[IDDM]; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This buildup of glucose in the blood is called hyperglycemia. The body is unable to use the glucose for energy. This leads to the symptoms of type 1 diabetes. The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown. Most likely it is an autoimmune disorder. This is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue. With type 1 diabetes, an infection or another trigger causes the body to mistakenly attack the cells in the pancreas that make insulin. The tendency to develop autoimmune diseases, including type 1 diabetes, is hereditary. (Wisse, MD, 2015) The following symptoms may be the first signs of type 1 diabetes. Or they may occur when blood sugar is high: being very thirsty, feeling hungry ,feeling tired all the time ,having blurry eyesight, feeling numbness or tingling in your feet, losing weight without trying, urinating more often (including urinating at night or bed wetting in children who were dry overnight before) For other people, these serious warning symptoms may be the first signs of type 1 diabetes. Or, they may happen when blood sugar is very high (diabetic ketoacidosis): deep, rapid breathing, dry skin and mouth, flushed face, fruity breath odor, nausea or vomiting; inability to keep down fluids, stomach pain. Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can develop quickly in people with diabetes who are taking insulin. Symptoms usually appear when a person s blood sugar level falls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Tempest Research Paper Harmonious Dissonance In The Tempest, William Shakespeare uses the Prospero and Caliban s servant/master relationship and the motif of magic and power to portray that destruction and confliction will result when there is an external or internal imbalance between the disordered Dionysian intoxication and the disciplined Apollonian order. Caliban, who resentfully serves Prospero, represents the impulsive Dionysian servant whom the Apollonian master counteracts. Caliban is out of control, even stating that he wishes to have violated the honor of Miranda due to his hate of Prospero. The growing resentment for Prospero within Caliban leads him to plot Prospero s demise with his newfound party of intoxicated drunkards, Stephano and Trinculo, whom Caliban ironically reveres as nobles. Caliban, Stephano, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rise of Caliban, who is drunk with retaliation, represents an imbalance between the Dionysian impulse and Prospero, who represents Apollonian order. Caliban s plans foreshadow this conflict and destruction, as he plots to get his island back no matter what the expenses are. This imbalance between the Dionysian intoxication and impulse and the disciplined, rational, Apollonian order can also be internally present. Prospero represents the intellectual Apollonian figure, who keeps impetuous threats like Caliban in check. However, Prospero was once ironically a figure of his own Dionysian factor, creating an internal imbalance between the opposing factors. Prospero expresses that he was once intoxicated by his Apollonian studies, as his state was growing stranger in his increasing submersion to his world of books. This leads Prospero to neglect and lose sight of his government responsibilities, increasingly turning over the power of Duke to his brother Antonio, who in turn becomes intoxicated and infatuated with the key of officer and office. Antonio s intoxication of power creates conflict as he overthrows Prospero ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Comparing Superman And Me By Sherman Alexie And Salvation... After contemplating the purpose of a memoir several things came to mind. I believe it can serve to be cathartic for the writer as they can be set free by working through certain events in their life. Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, I think a memoir can serve as a way to for the writer to tell their story in a vivid way that allows the readers to feel like they are living the experience and perhaps to learn a valuable lesson from their story. Therefore, I chose to analyze two memoirs they were Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie and Salvation by Langston Hughes. I concentrated on trying to determine the purpose of each piece in order to indicate what pivotal aspects were employed that either helped or hindered them in achieving that purpose. First, In the memoir by Alexie the overall purpose was to indicate how being able to read afforded him the ability to overcome intense social and cultural pressures that were imposed upon him merely because of his race. I believe Alexie was able capture the aforementioned purpose of his work in a clear and impactful way. For instance, early on he stated that how he had discovered what a paragraph was even before being able to read. Moreover, he stated that [t]he words inside a paragraph worked together for a common purpose. They had some specific reason for being inside the same fence. (Alexie 1). Thus, the statement by Alexie was designed to invoke the thought process of the reader and guide them through his experience in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Technology As A Way Of Life And Express The new generation of students entering and already enrolled in university are members of a digital age growing up surrounded by many forms of digital technology as they are the first generation of youth to have internet technology easily available at their disposal. This current generation have already been labelled by sociologist as digital natives (Prensky 2001a) and the net generation (Tapscott 1998) (Prensky 2001a; Tapscott 1998 as cited in Murphy 2010). Technology is not something new to these students as its presence in their life have made them quite comfortable to the idea, as they perceive technology as a way of life and express a need to feel connected at all times (Russo et al. 2014). As university professors are being presented with new types of students, there is a call to integrate advanced technology into their course design, and ultimately, educators must lead the way and use the technology in a fashion that positively aids their students: technology should be used with the needs of the learners in mind and with the goal of improving student learning as the focus (Russo et al. 2014). If this idea is implemented and acknowledged correctly, then many advantages can arise that enhance student learning in university classrooms. The first benefit of instructors introducing advanced technology into their teaching is that technology connects with students, which ultimately arouses their interest because technology as a whole is a relevant and important part of student s lives. When students are interested and engaged in the class material they become motivated to pay attention and focus on what they are being taught, which leads to an improved retention rate of information. This relates to the DVD that West, Pudsey and Dunk West created for teacher to give to their students to work within their learning, and they found that it easily assimilates into their everyday life world (2010). Another advantage is that the use of technology supports collaboration skills within students. Business Intelligence ( Bi ) And Business Analytics Business intelligence (BI) and business analytics (BA) (sometimes used interchangeably) has revolutionized the way businesses use data and can be contrasted, for the purpose of this essay, in the following way: BI is raw data that has been transformed into meaningful information that provides historical, current, and predictive views of business operations and environment, and BA uses data and statistical methods to provide actionable information for decision makers. BI explains what is happening, identifies the issue, and provides decisions to be made and BA explains why an issue is occurring, what will occur, and what actions need to be taken. At the forefront of BI/BA technology is International Business Machines (IBM) with a very broad array of related products and services. Among the more popular products are its flagship analytics product IBM Cognos and its Predictive Customer Analytics. • 15. Analysis Of Annette Lareau s Unequal Childhoods After reading Annette Lareau s book, Unequal Childhoods , I gain a better understanding of how my childhood affected the person I am today and the person I will become. This book categorizes Americans in classes of poor class, working class, and middle class; Lareau studies multiple families in each of these classes, including different races. In the following essay, I will apply the same concepts Lareau used in her book to my own life. Daily Life My Mother, Dawn, grew up in a working class family with her parents separated and trying to make ends meet with her Dad and two siblings. She graduated high school and went on to work at McDonalds for a few years, before she got married. My father, Jerry, grew up poor moving different houses every year with his mom, step dad, and five other siblings. His father died when he was three and his step father died when he was about thirteen. Jerry dropped out of high school without completing the ninth grade so he could work to provide for his mom and other siblings. Dawn and Jerry married and had their first child in 1988, a daughter named Brittany. In the same year my family moved into a predominantly white neighborhood in the town of Okalona, right by the busy streets of Preston Highway and Outer Loop. The house is brick and was built in the early 1940 s, it is two stories with four bedrooms and two baths, with two garages, a swimming pool, and big back yard, the house sits on .94 acres of land. Jerry worked as a painter in the union since he was 16 and always had the aspirations of owning his own business. Dawn stayed home to care for the home and the children. Two years after Brittany was born, they had another daughter named Ashley in January of 1990. At this point Jerry was still working at the Union as a painter and was attempting to start his own painting business. In 1993, Jerry was contracted with a construction company building 20 new houses a year, this was the start of his painting company. All through the 90 s and early 2000 s Jerry and his paint crew were working seven days a week painting store after store and house after house. He had three work vans and two nine man crews going non stop. This is what led the family s social class to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious amount of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate, and destiny are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars going on during that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading both Aeneasand Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the role of the gods is to make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliadfocuses on the end of the Trojan Warand the damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the war and underlies the foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the comparison of the role of gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have influence on the lives of mortals. In both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were chosen by gods because they have gained favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were also very specific on who they would help. The gods determined the destiny of the mortals. Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have become favorable in the eyes of the gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because they stand out from ordinary men by having a great military and physical prowess. ... But in this paper I will only consider the cosmetic purposes, since CGE for medical reasons seem to be morally unproblematic. The main premise in this paper is that since CGE is safe, legal, voluntary, and widely accessible, there is nothing morally problematic for someone to choose to undergo CGE themselves or to choose it for their children. And if this premise is true, then it would also be true that there is nothing morally problematic for engineers to design, construct, or maintain products which are intended to enable people to engage in CGE in safe, legal, voluntary and widely accessible ways. Firstly, I will confirm that the premise is true and how it makes the conclusion true as well. Secondly, I will point out Sandel s arguments against the premise, which suggest that the premise might be false. Thirdly, I would object to one of Sandel s points using my own arguments. Then, I would point out how others, who may sympathize Sandel, may argue against my objections. Finally, I would conclude the final judgment based on all the arguments made. If cosmetic genetic engineering is safe, legal, voluntary, and widely accessible, then there is nothing morally wrong or problematic for someone to choose to undergo it because there is nothing wrong or problematic to have great gifts such as strong big build, multi talented brain, good at ethics class and many more. There was very little knowledge about healthcare at this time so it was a common practice to just blame it on the witch. The initial questions Tempel Anneke was asked pointed out the similarities between her and what were thought to be the characteristics of a witch. When the interrogator questioned her age and means of personal finance, she did not state her age but did say that she was a widow and lived with her son on his farm but did perform healings when needed. She was then questioned about her education and religious practices. She responded by saying she had learned how to heal people from observing her mother. Also, she testified that she knew the commandments but had not been to the table of the Lord or the Holy Communion in two years (15). It did not help that she was not looked up to in the community but was part of the lower class. • 23. How Water And Sunlight Affects Plant Growth Review of Literature Introduction How Water and Sunlight Affect Plant Growth Photosynthesis is how water and sunlight affect plant growth. According to The Merriam Webster Dictionary the definition of photosynthesis is the process by which chlorophyll containing plants make carbohydrates from water and from carbon dioxide in the air in the presence of light . This basically means photosynthesis is the process that all green plants undertake to receive their needed food and energy using sunlight, water (H2O), and carbon dioxide (CO2). So water and sunlight affects plant growth by helping the process of photosynthesis, which then helps the plant receive energy and food. Photosynthesis is essential, not only for plants, but all living things especially humans. As stated before, photosynthesis helps plants receive their needed food and energy, which helps them grow and stay alive. Photosynthesis is not just helpful for plants though. Plants produce various things we use in life such as wood, paper, food, lumber, fuel, etc. That is not the only thing plants produce for us. They produce oxygen for all human life and other living things to breathe. Without photosynthesis there would be little plant life. Without plants there would be little human life. Therefore, photosynthesis is extremely vital for all forms of life. The process of photosynthesis is pretty complex. Sunlight and water are both very crucial elements of this process. • 33. The Treatment Of Bulimia Nervosa Author: Haley McDaniel, Pharm.D. Candidate Date Answered: November 2, 2015 Question: 47. Should topiramate be considered for the treatment of bulimia nervosa? Answer: The drug Topiramate is a sulfamate substituted derivative from the monosaccharide D fructose that is known for its anticonvulsant and antimigraine actions.1 Therefore, it is helpful for patients with seizures and migranes. Epilepsy is a specific example of what this drug is used to treat. Topiramate is different from other antiepileptic drugs because it is thought to block the spreading of seizures instead of lowering the threshold like other antiepilepsy drugs. 2 Although the exact mechanism that Topirmate cannot be identified, it is currently being observed from biochemical studies. Scientist have observed that the drug blocks voltage dependent sodium channels, augments the activity of gamma aminobutyric acid, antagonizes the AMPA/kainite subtype of glutamate receptor, and inhibits carbonic anhydrase. 1 Should this medicine be used to treat bulimia nervosa? Bulima nervousa is a disease that causes patients to engulf large amounts of food in a short amount of time, which then causes them to take action by purging or taking laxitives to get rid of the large sum of food they consumed. 3 There was a study that used a randomized, Double Blind, Placebo Controlled Trial, to test if Topiramate had an effect on the behavior, body weight, and quality of life related to health in patients suffering from ... No longer are people sitting on a couch inside staring at a screen, dreaming of a different world. Now they can go outside, get some exercise and feel all the excitement and anxiety of a real pokemon trainer. The popularity of the app was proven by how many people downloaded it immediately (Discussion). Pokemon Go was an idea that exploded and spread throughout the nation, appealing to young children and settled adults alike (Thesis). Pokemon Go built upon platforms of past videogames and GPS, was the next step in the realm of pokemon media, exapted cell phones and games to be a way to encourage people outdoors and exercise in a world where everything is leading indoors, and used liquid networks to reach as high as it could (Essay Map). • 42. Comparing The Fall Of The House Of Usher And Ligeia The Fall of the House of Usher, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and Ligeia, there was an affinity between the many characters of each one of the stories. There were also many other analogies in the books so far as a situation, plot, setting, etc. In the story The Murders of the Rue Morgue, which is a very mysterious story, the main action commences when the narrator and another man named C. Auguste Dupin meet together because they are seeking for the same book at an ambiguous library in Rue Montmartre. The two men read about a murderin a newspaper headline, then one night they re staying at a hotel and hear a shriek from about the fourth floor above them in which they call the cops in backlash to that. Once the cops had broken into the apartment, for the door was locked, they found what seemed to be a murder scene for all of the blood and the hair on the floor. The police officers and the other two men react to the scene of what seems to be death by acting concerned about finding what had happened and who it had happened to and who committed the crime. In the story The Fall of the House of Usher it all starts with the character under the name Roderick approaching a house which seems to be described as an evil feeling, for it is in a type of a swampy area with decaying ... • 43. The Civil War, By Harriet Beecher Stowe Albert Einstein once said, You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else. Honestly, what quote represents General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard better than that? It could be said that Beauregard, with his quick wit and tremendous skill, was destined to play a vital role in the Civil War. Decades of tension and rivalry between the North and the South led to the five year war between the states, more commonly known as the Civil War. No one knows for certain what the true cause for war was; some people claim it was slavery; some people insist it was state s rights. The five year war resulted in over 360,000 Union deaths and over 260,000 Confederate deaths, with gruesome and bloody skirmishes and battles such as the Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest single day of the war, and the Battle of Gettysburg, the bloodiest battle of the war . The war ended in a Union victory after General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865 (historynet). But how did General Beauregard affect the Civil War? To summarize, Beauregard played a key role in the Battle of Fort Sumter, the First Battle of Bull Run, and was an excellent militant. Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard was born on May 28, 1818, into a well respected Creole family. He was raised on a sugarcane plantation in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, which is just outside of New Orleans. Beauregard attended school in New York City, but in 1834 he was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was popular, with nicknames such as Little Creole and Little Napoleon, and finished second in his class when he graduated in 1863 (history). Beauregard married Marie Antoinette Laure VillerГ© in 1841, and they had three children, Rene, Henri, and Laure before she died in childbirth on March 21, 1850 (findagrave). He was an ... • 44. The Intensity Of Ventral And Dorsal Streams When someone looks at a picture, feedforward circuit conveys information to trigger lower visual region, which is V1, and then travels to higher visual regions through the dorsal and ventral streams. The brain areas are activated not at the same time, but instead it spreads out from V1. The velocity of ventral and dorsal streams is different; the dorsal stream is much faster. Feedforward is involved in pre attentive and preconscious vision, whereas recurrent connection is involved in attentive and conscious vision. Since the attention binds all features of a specific object, it needs longer latencies for this process by using recurrent connections (Lamme Roelfsema, 2000). Furthermore, there are two ways to utilize sensory information, reactive mode (feedback) and predictive mode (feedforward). In reactive mode, we do not know about the sensory input until we get it. Thus, our system reacts and uses the information as feedback. As we become better, less feedback is used, and the brainworks in a predictive way. For example, in novel movements one uses the reactive way, because a lot of feedback is used, so the movement is slow and is divided into many steps. Once one figures out the movement s requirements, feedforward allows ones to move predictably. For example, if we want to catch a ball, there are visual inputs traveling into the cortex through the two visual streams; the ventral stream, which allows us to perceive what we are looking at the time that the dorsal stream ... Marx And The Capitalist System Throughout his many works (most notably Das Kapital) Marx criticized many aspects of the capitalist system and how his socialist views held the key to freeing America from its otherwise damned state. Here are some of the issues that Marx attributed to capitalism. He found that modern work is alienated. Marx believed labor to be one of man s greatest sources of pleasure, but in order to be fulfilled at work, workers would need to see an extension of themselves in the objects they create. This was something that became increasingly rare in the modern world as work tends to be more specialized. He called this primitive accumulation . In an attempt to remedy this injustice, Marx calls for the redistribution of the wealth of the massive corporations that were making so much surplus money into the hands of the people responsible for it. Marx also believed capitalism to be characterized by a series of crises. These crises were caused by the fact that America is able to produce far more than anyone needs to consume. Regarding human relation, Marx saw our system as the source of great misery. Contrary to popular belief, Marx did not see the people of the West as evil . For example, he was acutely aware of the sorrows that lay behind bourgeois marriage. The bourgeoisie has torn away from the family its sentimental veil, and has reduced the family relation to a mere money relation (Marx). Marx believed that the capitalist system forced people to place economic interests at the heart of their lives and as a result they are no longer able to experience deep and honest relationships. He called this commodity fetishism and wanted people to be free of financial constraint. So what are some of the perceived benefits one could expect to see within Marx s ideal socialist society? Firstly, Marx believed in equality before the law. Every individual would be granted an equal stance and equal opportunity. There would be no fights for social justice as there would be no dominant gender or race. Citizens would have immediate access to education as well as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
