Diverse personal encounters with non state armed actors animate my research agenda, and I
seek to discern the meaning of a picture formed by pieces of a puzzle collected during my years
of military service. As a peacekeeper in Kosovo, I witnessed how a random rifle shot could
spark a series of reprisals across invisible lines that separated villages. My soldiers and I were
almost powerless to stop them. On one hand, our legal mandate prevented our ability to take
direct action. One the other, we understood so little about our adversaries we did not fully know
which action to take. Subsequent experiences leading soldiers during counterinsurgency efforts in
both Iraq and Afghanistan immersed me again in the turmoil created by overlapping networks of
non state armed groups competing for economic, social, and political power. Each incident
revealed another piece of the puzzle, but the picture it formed remained unclear. I started to

present day valley, it is a difficult destination to find prosperity. Two dramatic mountain ranges

On June 10, 2015, I will be graduating and entering the real world. In the days to follow, I plan on
attending college and playing collegiate sports. My first option is to attend Central Washington

The way that this works is exactly like any other syllabus, except each grade has a zero after the
normal grade, so if it was 93 for an A, it would be 930 for an A in this class. Also what I gathered
from this is that, the attendance policy is completely different than in high school. It states, no more
than three absences are allowed. For each absence beyond the third, your grade will be dropped
one step. For example, if you have been absent four times and have a B average, you will be
assigned a B .if you are not prepared for class, e.g. You have no rough draft on peer review day,
or if you have been consistently late for class, you will be counted absent. Also if you do not

Browner s English 101 class appears to be immense, but when you actually read the schedule on

When we are on the road wreck less driving can be caused by a number of situations, which
ultimately is all related to the driver being irresponsible. Many of us have witnessed drivers so
distracted by their cell phones that they often resemble drunk drivers and we ve all seen the
commercials of the distracted drivers who look down to read that one message and now suffer
permanent brain damage or have ended someone elses life.. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon
University used MRI brain scans to demonstrate that simply listening to a cell phone conversation
while driving results in a drastic decrease in brain activity focused on driving (Gershowitz 582).
A common misconception is the thought that hands free calling is safer than texting. This is very
much untrue, the actual act of having a conversation causes the driver to be distracted. Texting
while driving is more dangerous because texting requires cognitive functioning and requires the
driver to take his eyes off the road. Distracted drivers often weave between lanes or forget to
signal while driving; putting other drivers at risk while on the road. Recently, we have seen an
increase in the concern over cell phone use while driving and an increase in legislation to prohibit

In this day and age, finding an alternate source of energy to fossil fuel is essential. Humans are
using up fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, faster than they can be made naturally.This means that

without energy, many alternative sources have been harnessed. Six different pathways for energies
were found: solar power, biomass, geothermal power, hydropower, wind power, and nuclear power.

My Reflection Of My Writing As A Portfolio
In my portfolio I will be including my first essay and second essay that I did for this class. I am
most proud of these essays not because I took my time on them but I know that I fixed what was
asked and made a lot of improvements on them. I believe I did meet the contract agreement that
we signed at the beginning of the quarter. Although, I did miss some days of class, more than I
expected, but even after that I feel like I kept up with my work in and outside of the classroom
and what was required. I enjoyed this class a lot because I was able to learn a lot about myself as
a learner and was able to work on my study habits. I learned a lot about how to read properly and
how reading aloud truly helps you as a writer and learner. I also became better at being able to

location of ancient China is the eastern part of Asia. To be more specific, Bejing China is located

Ancient China has many features that define it. For an example, it is built along two main rivers.

Teplin (1984), persons with mental illness have been found to be almost twice as likely as

ABSTRACT
Invasive procedures including chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis in sex linked diseases
increase the risk of fetal loss. Therefore, Noninvasive fetal gender determination using cell free
fetal DNA (cffDNA) in maternal plasma may be promising. Fifty pregnant women with
gestational age between sixth to tenth weeks were included. cffDNA were extracted from
maternal plasma and amplified by real time PCR and conventional PCR for detection of SRY,
DYS14 and DAZ genes as specific genetic markers for male bearing pregnancies. In general,
sensitivity and specificity of real time PCR was better than conventional PCR. However,
sensitivity of DYS14 gene and specificity of SRY gene by real time PCR was equal to those of
conventional PCR. Sensitivity of DYS14 gene was the highest and sensitivity of SRY gene was the
lowest. However, combination of the three Y chromosome sequences in the diagnosis increased the
test accuracy, which is suitable for clinical application.

Increases in gun control were slight from then until the 1960 s, a decade bejeweled with peace
movements. Landmark events such as the emerge of vast controversy of America s war with
Vietnam and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy encouraged broad legislation in favor

and it takes place in the 16th century in Denmark. The central characters are Ophelia, Hamlet,
and Ophelia s brother Laertes and father Polonius. In this work, Ophelia is constantly influenced
by the opinions of those that surround her which causes her to become a prisoner to her own
thoughts. This drama was written as a depiction of how women conducted themselves during this

Heroin Problem
Heroins cheap and widely available status has spread to many cities throughout the United States;
these users are buying and shooting up right away, often in public. Many police officers find users
unconscious or dead in cars, restaurants, in parks, hospitals, and libraries. Not only does this add to
visibility of the drug to public eye, but leaving behind dirty needles in these public locations lead to
a health hazard. The heroinepidemic needs to be stopped immediately by understanding where the
problem starts, the effects of the drug, and educating the public about treatment, addiction, and the
problems the addiction causes on a personal level. Keeping heroin addiction under control can lead
to less overdoses and a more positive future for the youth of this county.
