Based on the report of Global Youth Justice Organization, the misuse of marijuana is the
common juvenile crime performed by the youth. Marijuana abuse was ranked to be #6 in their
list. Teens are being involved to marijuana use for diverse reasons and this includes poor
supervision and communication of parents, family problems, lack of self discipline, lack of
discipline from parents or guardians, and family history of marijuana or drug abuse. Other risk
factors would be physical and sexual abuse, emotional problems, curiosity, and peer pressure

Many of the psychological effects depend on the setting in which marijuana is used. When the
user takes it while alone, he or she may feel drowsy and restful. people who take it with other
often become talkative and intellectually stimulated. Marijuana has a marked effect on memory
for recent events. Information learned while high is difficult to recall. Conversations can be
disjointed because of an inability to remember what has just been said. Such effects are transient
and no permanent effects appear to occur with occasional marijuana use, but regular high dose
use may impair memory. Short term effects would abnormal increase of heart frequency, blood
flow to other brain regions, and blood pressure. An individual who ingest marijuana would feel a
sense of relaxation, heightened sensory perception, euphoria, and hilarity. The negative mental

The Media And Its Portrayal Of Athletes
According to Knight and Giuliano s 2001 article, gender equality has been and will remain a
current topic of hot discussion in the media and its portrayal of athletes. Athletes have a unique
ability to deliver their thoughts and information to the masses through the media outlets given to
them in regard to their social status. Once the media has heard what the athletes have to say it
can be at the media s hand for interpretation. In this specific study 92 undergraduates were given a
fake newspaper that covered an Olympian with the main focus being on attractiveness. The
study covered male and female athletes in the newspaper article while focusing predominantly
on attractiveness. Results show that the readers not only disliked the attraction focus, but also
preferred the reading be more focused on the athleticism of the Olympians. The largest take
away from the study is the media and its coverage or portrayal of athletes being geared towards
athletic achievement over quality of appearance In Riebock and Bae s 2013 literature review
they discuss the differences in men and women athletes body perception in the media. To get their
results they used multiple questionnaires that revolved around questions dealing with body
shame, self objectification and their appearance goal. Their conclusion said grade level and
ethnicity do not play a significant role in the effects of the media on body perceptions (Riebock
Bae, 2013). However, what does play a role is gender. Women are in

What Effect Did Andrew Mellon Have On The American Dream
Andrew Mellon s influence on U.S. economics, during the highs and lows of his career, changed
the course of the country. He was a successful businessman, banker, and politician that began his
career as a banker in Pittsburgh. His keen and analytical mindset, no nonsense and strictly business,
helped him build a financial industrial empire by supplying loans to corporations to help them
expand in their fields. As the head of the U.S. treasury, he continued practicing his ideals of a
philanthropist. The effect of his ten years in office included the high of the Roaring Twenties, but
also the steep low of the Great Depression. People loved him because of the great wealth he brought

money to the rapidly growing industries in Pittsburgh. He also added a national bank, a savings

expand, started several companies, and financed Mellon Brother s Bank in North Dakota. The
Mellon bank account went from $2.5 million to $4.2 million, which showed the success that
Mellon had achieved. Mellon became interested in a Pittsburgh aluminum company, which he
loaned $25,000 to and became the director. Mellon also entered the oil industry because of the
opportune time and what seemed to be in store for his future. Mellon incorporated the Mellon

The Lost World Of Genesis 1 Summary
The Lost World of Genesis One Book Review
Within this book review we will discuss many characteristics of the author and the book. Who he
is, where his stance on the subject is, his motives, and techniques that were used to open the
readers mind to understand his perspective on Genesis one. The author of the book, John H.
Walton was a professor at Moody bibleinstitute for thirty years before becoming the current
professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College. The question that Walton asks is, in what way
should we interpret the story of Genesis? His primary focus throughout the novel is to show how
the seven days of genesis compare to the cosmic temple inauguration explained by Walton as the
cosmos is being it s functions as God s temple, where he has taken up his residence and from
where he runs the cosmos pg. 161. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structure of his argument contains steps that build off of each other, further proving his point.
He explains many other interpretations of the bible and uses ancient near eastern texts to gain a
knowledge of the people from that time and find out exactly what the author meant when he wrote
Genesis. He compares with the book of Genesis to these texts to prove how his interpretation is
the most reasonable. Walton includes a great amount of quotes from many credible sources that
include scientific theories, ancient near eastern text and sources from the bible as well to prove
his thesis. The most important examples of this would be the theory of evolution, which can still
be an act of God using Walton s cake model , a Sumerian text of Gudea s construction of a temple
shows the temple serving a cosmic function, and examples from the bible which include the use of
day by God when regarding to light, this gives the term a functional sense instead of the

Do you wonder why sometimes you watch Tv and a curse word has been said but instead of
hearing the word you hear a *beep*. That is called Censorship, society should be allowed to limit

Persuasive Essay On Portugal
Since 2001, Portugal has prioritized harm reduction in drug abuse and have treated addiction as a
health issues instead of a crime issue. Many believe that this policy has reduced drug addiction,
but others feel that it has encouraged the use of illegal drugs. I believe that Portugal is taking the
wrong stance against drugs and should be viewing them in a criminal manner. This policy can be
supported in historical context via the burning of opium by the Chinese government and by the use
of methamphetamine by German soldiers in World War II.The Chinese government was struggling
to ban opium smoking recreationally and by 1729 the deemed it only legal to smoke for medical
purposes. Despite these efforts, opium use was increasing significantly... Show more content on

Their ignorance as a government in the 1730 s led them to take extreme steps to stop the illegal
trade by burning the British opium and trying to destroy the British ships in the 1830 s. China s
justification for allowing opium to be legal in 1729 can be viewed as the root of the opium
wars. The unprecedented casualties of World War I brought the need for treatment of acute and
chronic pain. This inspired the Weimar and Nazi governments to adopt an attitude of tolerance
toward the use of drugs to relieve pain, increase performance, and avoid withdrawal. Most drugs
were permitted either universally or for individuals with a medical prescription. Thus, Drug use in
the German military during World War II was actively encouraged and widespread, especially
during the war s later stages as their military became depleted and increasingly dependent on youth
as opposed to experience. The German army ordered soldiers to take military issue pills made from
methamphetamine. The aftermath of this war was devastating because the soldiers who survived

Killer Whale Captivity
For over many years orcas have been held in captivity. This has been a major dilemma because
animal abuse is present while capturing killer whales. Many people wonder why they capture
orcas, here is why, they are used for entertainment at SeaWorld. Some of the dangers that come with
whale captivity are orcas taxing their physical health, drives the killer whales crazy which can lead
to injuries and even death for a SeaWorld trainer.
To begin with, orcas are highly intelligent and being stuck in a small tank they tend to get
traumatized. They are used to swimming hundreds of miles each day and with being held in
captivity they don t have that. As a result, when the orcas get traumatized gnawing on iron bars
takes place. With boredom, stress, and anxiety piling up on they end breaking their teeth, which
results in painful dental work without the use of anesthesia. However, living in a cramped area
causes stress which lead to fights between orcas. Since the tanks are so small it would be similar
to us humans forced to live in a bathtub which we all know for a fact no one would want to live
that way. Animals are no... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Male orcas in the wild live up to 30 years, possibly even 50 60 years maximum. On the other hand,
females live up to 46 years and a maximum of 80 90 years. Having the right to live up to all those
years is something killer whales have. Since orcas have an amazing integrated auditory and visual
regions of the brain is so great for the orcas. This means that their echolocation is phenomenal.
For instance, The SeaWorld website reports lower figures. They state wild male and female orcas
reach average ages of 17 and 29 years respectively. These figures include those that may die in the
first six months. If a killer whale survives the first six months, a female s average life expectancy is
within the range of 46 to 50 years and a male s is 30 to 38 years, SeaWorld states.

Case 1(Ruggiero 173). We have the debate and Supreme Court ruling in 2002 that stated the ban on
virtual child pornography was unconstitutional, and in turn, The Federal Child Pornography

This essay is going to define machine learning and...
This essay is going to define machine learning and describe some of the different areas within
machine learning. It will summarise some of the algorithms used to achieve machine learning and
describe some of the situations in which they can be applied, then compare these to human learning
techniques and comment on there similarities and differences. It will then discuss Raymond
Kurzweils singularity theories and its opposing views.
Intro
Machine learning is having a large impact on the way that computers can be used in many ways.

The head of engineering at Google is Dr Ray Kurzweill, he has predicted that the intellect of
machines will surpass human intellect by 2045 and believes that by this point machines will be
capable of everything that humans are only they will do it better.(Kurzweill,2005). More recently
Kurzweill has explained that his aim while working with google is to reverse engineer the human
brain (Kurzweill,2013). There are however many sceptics of Kurzweill s theories and proof of
Kurzweils singularity theories remains to be shown. (Regalado,2013)
What is machine learning
Machine learning is an area of A.I that involves the use of algorithms, statistical analysis and
programming in combination to allow a machine to learn from its experience. This is done in a
number of ways but all are essentially a computer program that can re program its self based on
external stimulus or experience. In machine learning the program is referred to as the agent.
The first example of machine learning was completed by Arthur Samuel. Samuels program learnt
how to play checkers by playing its self and went on to beat human players who would be
considered above average. His definition of machine learning was the field of study that gives
computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed (Muonz,nd)
Recently a more formal definition was presented

effect on this already underdeveloped society. The resilience and courage needed to even survive
through these harsh conditions were scarcely found; however, one brave family managed to catch

The development of young characters can be seen throughout the novel with the shift in
responsibility to be a parent from Ma and Da to Audrey and Devon. Sometimes, as Da had done,
Devon took a thing to town to pawn. He pawned the box that Grandda s money had come in and
brought home second hand shoes for me. (135) Further, this can also be seen with Izzy s
adjustment to the rural farming conditions from a previous rich city life and Audrey s brave
decision to work for the selfish pig farmer; even little Harper realises that the world is not just fun
and games. Despite the Flute family despising Vandery Cable, Audrey, transitioning into the role of
a mature and dedicated second mother, takes this burden upon herself as she values her family s
welfare over her own. The courage and bravery needed to fill the shoes of the previous

Benjamin Franklin Join Or Die Analysis

message. Whether it be about politics, events or social concerns, the artist is able to express
themselves creatively. The cartoons are not only meant to express the view of the creator but are
also open to interpretation. Most political cartoons have a biased point of view and uses rhetoric to

Benjamin Franklin created the first known American political cartoon, Join or Die . It was

The Lathe Of Heaven Analysis
Throughout the novel, The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin, Haber argues multiple
reasons for why having the opportunity to change the world for the better is a positive resource
for the world to have. In my opinion, having the power Haber has over Orr, is too much of a
responsibility for an individual to handle alone. I disagree with haber s view on how change
through Orr s effective dreaming is an advantage to humanity because natural order doesn t lead to
entropy, the journey is just as important as the destination, and no individual should have the power
to control the masses. Haber argues that natural order leads to entropy. Ultimately, what is at stake

There are many ways to get to your destination. Much like a road trip, there are different ways of
getting to your destination, maybe one way you take a subway where you only see the walls of
the station and the darkness of the tunnels, while the other possible route is by car where you are
able to see the different stores, and building that finally end at your destination. Some may
believe that they would gain more from the car ride than they would have gotten from the
subway trip. Both ways would have gotten you to your destination, yet many people prefer
different types of transportation over others. An example from the book that explains the
possible routes that Haber could have taken, which could have lead to more positive results
include when he decided to take over Orr s mind through hypnotic suggestion and implying to
him to dream of peace. If he had taken a different route to get his overall result of peace such, as
running organizations about equality and peace with a firm hand, he wouldn t have ever been
able to create a world where aliens even exist. If he had taken another route to peace in the world
everyone affected would have gotten more preferable results than the disadvantages he received
from taking the route he actually took. In my opinion, having it be a longer time for peace to occur
is better than instant war which was a result of haber s suggestion to Orr.

The Pros And Cons Of Hitachi
I. Introduction
In this decade, design thinking has been captured attention from innovation scholars. Design
thinking, originated from basic practices of designers, is a series of activities and attitudes toward
bringing innovation [3][26]. This idea does not claim a necessity of being a designer, but designers
may have a high potential to be an innovator in a various occasion.
In fact, recent management studies discovered that industrial designers contribute to innovative
scientific research in the natural science field [5][29]. These studies clearly illustrate how industrial
designers tactfully set a demand pull goal and facilitate consensus building among research project
members.
They are also likely to achieve technological innovation in the industry sector. Reference [27] found
their superiority in setting a consumer oriented goal. Indeed, a versatile entrepreneur and industrial

The Giver Reflection
Imagine living in a world where everyone looks and acts almost exactly the same. Pain, fear,
war, and hatred has all been eliminated. This the society in the book The Giver by Lois Lowry. In
The Giver, the story is told by an eleven year old named Jonas. At the age of twelve, the children
receive their Assignments as a new adult of the community based on interests. Jonas receives the
Assignment as the Receiver of Memory. This is a highly honored Assignment. Jonas is different
from the others and with his Assignment, he learns things that he didn t know before. An old man
who he calls the Givertells him memories from the past, good and bad. By the things he learns
down the road, including that being released means being killed, Jonas tries and help a boy
named Gabriel. He is soon going to be released, so Jonas takes Gabriel and they leave their
community in hopes for a new town where the two of them can live because they are different
from the rest. In The Giver, Jonas image of a village was only a hallucination and they did not
escape the physical boundaries of their society. This is known because Jonas was freezing to death,
Jonas imagined the first memory that he saw, and what he saw in his mind was only an echo.
First, in The Giver, Jonas image of a village was only a hallucination and they did not escape the
physical boundaries of their society. Then it flickered suddenly, and he felt tiny tongues of heat
begin to creep across and into his frozen feet and legs. He felt his face begin to glow and the
tense, cold skin of his arms and hands relax. (Lowry 177). Jonas was escaping from his own
community. He was out in the freezing cold, starving, and about to reach death. The village was a
hallucination because he was trying to see a happy side of the situation. Jonas did not want to die,
but he knew he was, so he imagined the village as he was freezing to death. They end up, near
death, on a snow covered hill. At the summit, almost frozen and without hope, Jonas suddenly feels
joy and recognizes his whereabouts as the sledding hill of his dream. (Hanson). Jonas knows that
this is the end and he made himself think this hallucination because he knows that he wasn t

David D Hall Worlds Of Wonder In The Northern Colonies...
TITLE Colonial America was a time of great change and discovery. The era was a time of
conflict between people s secular desires as innovation boomed and their spiritual growth as they
discovered more about God and explored new religious ideas. In his essay, Worlds of Wonder in
the Northern Colonies, David D. Hall accurately argues that despite the secular advances of the
Colonial Era, religionwas undoubtedly the most prevalent area of Americans focus because the
power of Godwas being manifested into their lives in so many irrefutable ways. One reason for the
Colonial Americans growth in faithis the fact the era was abundant with religious figures who
strove to lead people to God and created guidelines for them to live by. The people of Colonial
America were blessed to abide in an enchanted world of wonders. These wonders were no doubt
brought on by the hand of God, and the recognition of this fact caused new religious leaders to
rise up and help people focus on living Godly lives despite the secular distractions that they were
presented with. One Puritan leader, John Winthrop, stated, That which the most in their Churches
maintain as a truth in profession only, we must bring into familiar and constant practice, as in
this duty of love we must love brotherly without dissimulation, we must love one another with a
pure heart fervently we must bear one another s burdens... Winthrop not only wanted each
individual person to maintain a stronger focus on faith in daily life, he also wanted them to use
their faith to unite together, and his Model of Christian Charity showed the people how to
accomplish that. Many people tried to abide by these teachings and pass them onto their children
before they made their own way in the changing, confusing world because many parents feared
their children would Fall un wares in Fowler s snare. A second reason for the religious
prevalence in Colonial America was the evil that people faced. The providence of God was
wonder working in making manifest the reach of his sovereignty; such acts of special providence
represented God s clearer and more explicit than usual intervention into the affairs of man. But he
was not alone in having supernatural power. The events

Mini Dbq Analysis
The Mini DBQ s helps students better understand the world around them and make decisions. The
Mini DBQ s is a collection of multiple sources in one large packet for a student to gather evidence
in support of a main idea. This allows the student to form their own ideas while focusing them on
one main idea. The first DBQ focused on relating the Preamble of the Constitution and the National
Budget. It asked students to study the Preamble and see if America is spending their money
correctly. This analysis makes students truly understand what the Preamble means in the current

Angel Of The Last Judgment
Wassily Kandinsky s Angel of the Last Judgment was made during the pre war times in Europe.
Kandinsky s painting was included in the Merzbacher collection, a collection focused on how
colour had been used by European Artists in the 20th century. Kandinsky along with other Artists
such as Derain, Vlaminck and Braque were considered as Fauves meaning wild beasts a comment
made by Art critics who found their use of colour unnatural and aggressive. Along with Angel of the
Last Judgment, many paintings made around this time centralized around apocalyptic themes of
chaos and death. In the paintingthe viewer is caught in the middle of destruction with the piece s
swirling arcs that propel the eye across the canvas. Through prominent black lines an angelic
silhouette is implemented in the center of the painting. A sense of motion is conveyed with
feathered strokes of the figure s angelic wings. The upper borders are filled with warm reds and
oranges with curved black arcs interrupting and swirling around the piece. In the upper right corner
of the painting immerges a trumpet that seems to be screeching yellow and illuminates the whole
painting. Four sharp like claw marks cut through the silhouette and the painting itself. As your eyes

They Live Movie Analysis
In the movie They Live, I observed many different types of mise en scene. To me the most
obvious form of mise en scene is the sunglasses. A piece of mise en scene is discovered when the
main character puts on the sunglasses, and the theme of the movie is finally revealed to the
viewers. In the beginning of the movie the space aspect is revealed to the audience because as a
viewer you figure out the setting of the film. These are just two of the many examples of mise en
scene that are presented throughout the movie.
The film s mise en scene reveals the character and his personality traits early in the movie. We
visually see the main character first in the movie walking through a city looking for a job. This
noticeable mis en scene at this time of the movie gives us information about the main character that
gives the viewers a wider range of information that would not have been known without the mis en
scene.
The movie s mise en scene tries to shape our feelings by contrasting the two opposite societies.
The movie makes the audience feel like we are a part of the movement to help stop the elite
society from conforming the rest of the world to their ways. The visual information helps shape
its viewer s feelings to make us feel like we should be against the conformant, and the movie did a
good job of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lighting is what grabbed my attention in the movie. When the sunglasses weren t being used
the lighting was high key because it was bright and colorful. On the other hand, when the main
character is wearing the sunglasses the lighting changes from high key to low key. The only colors
that are seen while the main character has the sunglasses on is black and white. This gives the
movie a dull look, but without this visual element I don t think that the movie would have been able
to represent the huge different between the two different worlds in the

Trial By Fire Did Daxas Execute An Innocent Man By David...
In David Grann s Trial by Fire: Did Texas Execute an Innocent Man? , published on September 7,
2009, the overall question addressed is whether we should keep the death penalty legal. Grann
begins his argument with his account of the events that occurred on the morning of December 23,
1991 in Corsicana, Texas. Cameron Todd Willingham
, the husband and father of three children
awakes to a blaze of fire in his one story house (I). Willingham exits out the front door and
distraughtly tells a nearby neighbor to call 911. By the time the fire is extinguished, Willingham s
children are dead and arson investigators come to the house to inspect four days later (I). The two
investigators conclude that the fire is arson and it is considered a triple murdercommitted by
Willingham so they bring him in for questioning. This along with neighborhood witness testimony
leads to an arrest, which is punishable by death under Texas law. Before the trial, the state gives
Willingham a plea deal that if he pleads guilty he will get life in prison avoiding the death penalty
(I). Willingham rejects the plea deal and is found guilty. From there, Grann uses sections II
through V to pick holes in the original case of the prosecution. Findings of Dr. Gerald Hurst give
Willingham some sense of hope that his name might be cleared as an experiment on Lime street
is conducted. The intention is to recreate the scene of a previous arson case similar to
Willingham s (IV). In the original findings of the arson investigators, the only way flashover can
occur is by the presence of some sort of accelerant; however, the experiment shows that flashover
can still occur in a wood structured house and these signs of flashover are similar to the signs of
arson
(IV). Willingham s final appeal is denied by the Board of Pardons and Paroles so he is executed
on February 17th, 2006 (Gran V). The central argument Grann proposes in his article is that the
death penalty should be removed because without the implication of clear forensic evidence, we
can never be truly sure if an individual is guilty. He ends his essay with a statement from the
commission claiming that, There is a chance, however, that Texas could become the first state to

Cyrogens are Great Improvements to Electrochemical Battery...
Cryogens are effective thermal storage media which, when used for automotive purposes, offer
significant advantages over current and proposed electrochemical battery technologies, both in
performance and economy. An automotive propulsion concept is presented which utilizes liquid
nitrogen as the working fluid for an open Rankine cycle. The principle of operation is like that of a
steam engine, except there is no combustion involved. Liquid nitrogen is pressurized and then
vaporized in a heat exchanger by the ambient temperatureof the surrounding air. The resulting high
pressure nitrogen gas is fed to the engine converting pressure into mechanical power. The only
exhaust is nitrogen.
The usage of cryogenic fuels has significant advantage over other fuel. Also, factors such as
production and storage of nitrogen and pollutants in the exhaust give advantage for the cryogenic
fuels.

Elizabeth Gaskell s The Industrial Revolution Affected...
During the Victorian era, there were specific expectations set for women and men. Men expected to
be fathers and heads of households, whereas women were expected to simply be in the home,
dependent of their husbands. The only alternatives for unmarried women were either religious life
or prostitution. Elizabeth Gaskell comments on these expectations in her novel Mary Barton,
especially through the actions of the titular character, during the Industrial Revolution. While the

significant commentary regarding the gendered aspects of life. To put it simply, the Industrial

Gaskell characterizes her, Mary dwelt upon and enjoyed the idea of some day becoming a lady,
and doing all the elegant nothings appertaining to ladyhood. (Gaskell 79) She is initially a
stereotypical young girl, but later develops into a strong character. Because of the Industrial
Revolution s substantial impacts, Mary s characterization is a reaction to these impacts. Gaskell
recognized that the period was very dynamic, especially regarding the roles of women (Al Haj
1134). Pearl Brown notes, Mary Barton reflects on the impact at mid century of this new culture on
gender roles (Brown 346). The Industrial Revolution served as a catalyst leading to a change of
women s roles out of necessity.
Mary s characterization, especially at the latter half of the novel, is atypical. She was initially
introduced as a girl stuck in a love triangle, but after the death Harry Carson, she becomes a
heroic character, making her own decisions. Necessity was a primary factor; the Bartons were
on the edge of poverty for much of the novel. This reality forced Mary to work, much to her
father s protest. He believes he should be the primary provider; John Barton recommends she
becomes a servant, a very feminine career. Instead Mary decides to become a seamstress; Brown
points out it was a job with a possibility of a future managing a shop or perhaps owning he own

Analysis Of Donald J. Trump s Looking Glass Self
Donald J. Trump s tax returns, and his 3.7 billion net worth, was once the reason he was
critiqued in the media. Once his political career commenced, the media satisfied the audience s
thirst to revise candidate Trump s history of privilege and business skills (and how he got them),
to such an extent that the election of 2016 was almost omnipresent. I reexamined the sociological
aspects in Tremonti s CBC session with David Cay Johnston. Johnston s stance is that Trump is a
no good manager, and that he will not be a good president. Charles Horton Cooley s Looking
Glass Self, explains how Trump became the man he is today. Lastly, Trump s extreme self regard
creates untrustworthy relations, which will be fatal for America s businesses and trades.
Synopsis

business, the U.S. would have terrible, terrible problems. Investigator and expert in US economics,
David Johnson meant to study the spread of casino gambling when he went to Atlantic City. There,
he met Donald Trump and began to investigate his taxes instead. Over the years he was able to

pays very little taxes, or none at all. Johnston s CBC podcast was live on Thursday, September 29,

Reaction Paper On Deviance
Throughout the semester deviance has been our primary focus of the class, I actually have gotten
into the habit of determining things that I do whether they fall under the spectrum of deviant
behavior. Certain behaviors correlate with certain theories that have been enmeshed into
categories. Since many theories can be grouped together to explain certain behaviors I actually
have a few that I am going to be talking about today. But the main form of deviance that I will be
focusing on today is rape. Emotional numbness, Anxiety, loss of confidence and constant
flashbacks are just an array of things that these young girls will have to deal with for the rest of
their lives.
Rape is something that continues to happen not only in the United States, but in every country,
and is continuing to ruin many people s lives. Also there are myths that women and young girls
are the main victims when it comes to rape cases, although there may be many cases that are
directed mainly towards women , men and young boys are also victims. I believe that because it
is more common for women to get raped it s easier in a way to report it as to where if it were a

Transition From Transitional Lava Types
Transition From Pahoehoe to A a
In its most general sense, as the flow advances away from the vent, core temperature decreases
leading to an increase in viscosity and ultimately marks a transition from pahoehoe to a a. This
point of transition is most often referred to as the transition threshold (Peterson Tilling, 1980). Lava
which continues to deform even after it has become highly viscous, may reach this threshold and
subsequently changes to a a. There are many factors which govern this change, and will be
discussed in the proceeding section.
Transitional lava types have been studied, such as the rubbly pahoehoe observed from the Laki
flows, Iceland, of 1783 84 (Guilbaud, 2005), and slab pahoehoe on Kilauea (Peterson Tilling, ...

Due to this regard, it was first considered to be impossible (MacDonald, 1953).
Factors Controlling Emplacement of Pahoehoe A a flow
As discussed above, pahoehoe morphology forms from hotter, more fluid lava, and a a from
critically stressed and highly viscous lava. As already alluded to, Peterson Tilling (1980)
recognised an inverse relationship between viscosity and shear rate; if viscosity is low, a high rate
of shear is required to begin transition to a a, giving rise to its characteristic brecciated surface.
Likewise, if viscosity is high, a lower rate of shear will induce a transition. This section will discuss
the most significant factors governing the transition.
Effusion Rates
During a magmatic episode, a high discharge rate of magma is likely to produce lava fountaining
high into the air. It is inferred that the higher the fountaining, the more exposure the lava has to
cool air, thus increasing its viscosity. Further, with a high flow rate, lava continues to move even if
viscosity and yield stress is high. This continues up to a point at which surface disruptions can no
longer be healed , and the transition threshold is duly reached.
Rowland (1990) is one such advocate, attributing differences in lava type on Kilauea to differences
in volumetric flow rate. Rowland concluded that:

Helen Of Troy
Helen of Troy
In Greek mythology, Helen of Troy, also known as Helen of Sparta, was the daughter of Zeus and
Leda, and was a sister of Castor, Pollux, and Clytemnestra. In Greek myths, she was considered the
most beautiful woman in the world. By marriage she was Queen of Laconia, a province within
Homeric Greece, the wife of King Menelaus. Her abduction by Paris, Prince of Troy, brought about
the Trojan War. Elements of her putative biography come from classical authors such as
Aristophanes, Cicero, Euripides and Homer (both The Iliad and The Odyssey).
In her youth she was abducted by, or eloped with, Theseus, and in some accounts bore him a child.
A competition between her suitors for her hand in marriage sees Menelaus emerge victorious....

The first and last appearances are specified in the title of Roisman s article.
Helen has mixed feelings because she feels some complicity in her own abduction and realizes
how much death and suffering has been the result. That her Trojan husband is not terribly manly
compared with his brother or her first husband only increases her feelings of regret. However, it
is not clear that Helen had any choice. She is, after all, a possession; one of many Paris stole from
Argos, although the only one he is unwilling to return (7.362 64). Helen s fault lies in her beauty
rather than in her acts, according to the old men at the Scaean Gate (3.158).
Helen s First Appearance
Helen s first appearance is when the goddess Iris, disguised as a sister in law, comes to summon
Helen from her weaving.
Weaving is a typically wifely occupation, but the subject Helen is weaving is unusual, since she is
depicting the suffering of the Trojan War heroes. Roisman argues this shows Helen s willingness
to take responsibility for precipitating the deadly course of events. Iris, who summons Helen to
witness a duel between her two husbands to decide with whom she will live, inspires Helen with a
longing for her original husband, Menelaus. Helen does not appear to see behind the disguise to the
goddess and goes compliantly, without uttering a word.

Chimney Sweeper, Holy Thursday (Innocence) and London.
The Chimney Sweeper is about a child who sweeps chimneys. William
Blake sets this poem in the winter. The children worked in the cold.
Blake says, A little black thing among the snow, The little black thing, Is the child who is dirty
from cleaning the chimneys who stands out in the snow. He also looks like a black mask on the

allowing defenceless children to do their kind of job and made the children s life a misery. Who
have made up a heaven of our misery (paradox) and yet these adults seem able to continue their
lives and forget the dilemma of the children.
In the poem London William Blake makes a political statement about
London.
I wondered throu each charter d street he is leisurely walks through the streets of London. Charter

government for the fact that people living in London at this time have been worn down by the

A Clockwork Orange Banned
In December of 1971 Stanley Kubrick released A Clockwork Orange for the entire world to
enjoy. The movie is an adaptation of the book by the same name that was written by Anthony
Burgess in 1963. The story begins with the main character, Alex narrating while he and his fellow
gang members Georgie, Dim and Pete sit in the Korova Milk Bar discussing what violent acts they
will be part of that night. The drink of choice is milk that is laced with drugs that is dispensed from
the breast of nude statues of women that adorn the bar. After Alexand his gang leave the Korova,
they go on a crimespree that includes mugging, robbery, a gang fight, grand theft auto, breaking
and entering and rape. The rape of the woman is especially brutal; Alex and... Show more content on

A primary theme that runs throughout the movie is the importance of free will. This theme is
deeply entangled with Beethoven s Ninth Symphony and the idea the Ninth provides the
backdrop to pivotal violent points during the movie. Free will in the movie is often depicted as
the presence of a moral choice. This moral choice for Alex is heavily influenced by the way
society and the government views the young people of that time period. The youth are neglected
not only by their parents, but by the society who is supposed to be welcoming them with open
arms and helping them become a productive, responsible adult. John Locke suggests in his Social
Contract Theory that the idea that though men are by nature free, equal and independent , they can
be subjected to the political power of another with their consent. The purpose of this being is to
maintain a set of rules for which all agree to follow, thus creating social peace

her life and how she lived. Susanna lived all the earlier years of her life with war. She was
always having to worry about how her dad and brother were doing, or if she would wake up
being British, American or Canadian. She always had to be so focused on this war and
everything that was going on in it. Everything she did was effected by the war. This war has
affected Susanna completely. Susanna has a loving, caring brother and an amazing dad. She
loves spending time with them. But when they have to go to war, she couldn t ever bear parting
with them for such a long while. Susanna and the rest of the women in the household are always
worrying about how the men are doing. If they are even still alive. Susanna always worries about
the updates and pray they will be updates that will be from Papa and Hamilton not from a
messenger saying that they no longer exist. The men left and nothing much remaining is as it
seemed. And even the men weren t too excited to go to war and leave everything behind. I do not
want to go to war, but if we have to do one, I am glad to do my duty. ~ Hamilton Merritt... Show

How Did The Spanish American War Affect The Philippines
The Spanish American War was a four month conflict between the United States and Spain
provoked by many things. Spain, at the time, was controlling Cuba. In 1895, Jose Marti and the
inserrectos1 revolted against Spanish rule, leading to General Valeriano Weyler to become the
governor of Cuba. General Weyler was harsh with the rebels and non rebels alike and put much of
the Cuban population in concentration camps, where the many Cubans died from starvation and
disease. Americans felt very sympathetic for the Cubans and the way they were being treated,
especially because of yellow journalism . Yellow journalism exaggerated the way the Spanish were
treating the Cubans and deepened many Americans hatred for the Spanish. Joseph Pulitzer, owner
of the New York World, and William Randolph Hearst, owner of the New York

While Spain was controlling Puerto Rico, Puerto Ricans lived in poverty and had a lack of roads
and equipment for agriculture, which they depend on for income. Once the United States took
control over Puerto Rico, Congress passed the Foraker Act, establishing a civil government in
Puerto Rico. The United States decided to govern the Philippines until they are able to govern
themselves. President McKinley explained that giving the Philippines back to Spain would be
cowardly and dishonorable , giving the Philippines to France ore Germany would be bad
business since they were our commercial rivals in the Orient6, and letting them govern
themselves would lead to an anarchy. President McKinley said there is only no other options but
to take them all, and to educate the Filipinos, and uplift and civilize and Christianize them, and
by God s grace do the very best we could by them, as our fellow men for whom Christ also died .
The United States uplifted and aided the Filipinos. The Philippines was also a perfect place for a

For Lew Welch In A Snowfall By Gary Snyder
Being Able to Relate The poem For Lew Welch in a Snowfall by Gary Snyder moves me in a
way that I can relate to. Even though Snyder lost his best friend Lew Welch to suicide, anyone
that has lost a loved one can relate to this poem. The poem is very powerful but with minimal
words. Unlike For/From Lew , also written by Gary Snyder, For Lew Welch in a Snowfall is
joyful because it seems that Snyder is enjoying the memories that he shared with his best friend,
and it seems he is more at peace with the situation. Also, For Lew Welch in a Snowfall does not
have dialogue, which makes it easier for the reader to know who the narrator is, and it makes it
easier for the reader to understand what the poem is about. Eleven years after Snyder s

My First Season Of Recreational Soccer
It all began back when I was three years old at my first season of recreational soccer. The YMCA
was where the love and passion for soccer started. I later moved to the big leagues of Big Sun
recreational soccer to me it was like the professional league. I met the best coach ever, Coach
Judd Davis. He inspired me to be the bomb.com player and introduced me to competitive soccer.
So that next year I played on a U12 team as a fourth grader. When I made this team it was at that
moment my dream to play professionally was born. I worked harder than anyone on my team
and tried to soak up as much knowledge about the game there was told to me. My parents helped
me along the way by continuously encouraging me throughout difficult times. So I thought I was
ready to take on harder challenges. After for playing on the Ocala Lightning for two years, in
2013, I went to try out for the Olympic Development Program (O.D.P) or the Florida state team.
I felt excited and ready to be beast at this try out. The try out was near the Space Coast so it was a
little bit of a drive. As we were driving I was worried, nervous, and filled with the jitters like I am
on ITBS days. Finally the moment came where I had to face the try outs by myself because I
knew absolutely no one there (except my parents). I went to get my number so the Coaches could
evaluate the players. I was so timid that weekend I spoke to other players and coaches about five
times, that s it. The try out was two days of hard work and I

Joey The Frog Research Paper
Joey is a prince who reunited with princess Liaundra. The wicked queen and Prince Joey are
living on the pond as frogs. After the wicked queen was turned into a frog, and went to live in the
pond, she set up her court in a little cave among the rocks, just under the fountain. She made it her
palace. All it took was a couple of simple spells to create the right atmosphere for a frog queen.
The first spell pushed out the familyof frogs who were living there at the time. They were moved
by magic to the smelly side of the pond, where all the slime and duck weed collects. The next
spell added some turrets and fluted pillars and a drawbridge. Inside there was a little marble
bathroom with gold taps, and a kitchen where Prince Joey the Frog prepared... Show more content

I am sure it would only take the teeniest weeniest bit of magic to make my dream come true. I
would swim carefully if I were you, warned Tim s mum, She doesn t look to me like the sort who

palace, curtsied a little in the water, and said, Your majesty. I have come to you with a humble
petition. May it be your pleasure, your greatness, to turn me into a human princess? The queen
looked across from the balcony straight at the swan s red beak and said simply, Why? Because,
Your Majesty, I have always felt that I was born to be royal. My dear, dream on, replied the
queen with great contempt. Prince Jesus was just inside the palace, but he had heard this
exchange and he hopped out to give the queen his opinion. I know her, he said. She s just a silly
stuck up swan. I ve seen her many a time, swanning around the pond like she s a princess, but in

Bend it like Beckham is a movie about a Punjabi adolescent. In this movie, she goes by the name
Jess for a shorter, easier version of Jesminder Bhamra. She belongs to a Sikh family who is
currently living in London, a different world from their hometown Punjab, India. As a typical

by attending school, learning to cook, becoming a Doctor, and marrying an Indian man. However,

her passion, playing football professionally. One day while playing in ... Show more content on

During this phase, adolescents believe that everyone around them is fully focused on what he
/she does and how he/she looks. As a result, they are consciously aware of what he/she is doing
and how this action might be perceived by others around them; creating imaginary audience in
their imagination. One example of this can seen during one of Jess s football practices. After
she was accepted to be a part of the female s local football team, she was given the uniform a pair
of shoe, shorts and t shirt. As soon as she looked at the pair of shorts, a look of restlessness
began to appear on her face. Is it not until her football coach, Joe, confronted her do we find out
the reason. She, uncomfortably, explains that she doesn t want to play football wearing shorts
because her legs are [half] burnt. This explains Jess s thinking that everyone in the team will
notice her legs and will cause embarrassment for herself. Soon after, Joe explains it s okay Jess;
no one will notice it once you start playing. However it is not until Joe reveals marks on his legs
that Jess begins to feel comfortable; depicting adolescent egocentrism. Another example that
portrays adolescent egocentrism in this movie is through personal fable, a belief in one s personal
uniqueness. During this, the adolescent believes that

  • 3. The Media And Its Portrayal Of Athletes According to Knight and Giuliano s 2001 article, gender equality has been and will remain a current topic of hot discussion in the media and its portrayal of athletes. Athletes have a unique ability to deliver their thoughts and information to the masses through the media outlets given to them in regard to their social status. Once the media has heard what the athletes have to say it can be at the media s hand for interpretation. In this specific study 92 undergraduates were given a fake newspaper that covered an Olympian with the main focus being on attractiveness. The study covered male and female athletes in the newspaper article while focusing predominantly on attractiveness. Results show that the readers not only disliked the attraction focus, but also preferred the reading be more focused on the athleticism of the Olympians. The largest take away from the study is the media and its coverage or portrayal of athletes being geared towards athletic achievement over quality of appearance In Riebock and Bae s 2013 literature review they discuss the differences in men and women athletes body perception in the media. To get their results they used multiple questionnaires that revolved around questions dealing with body shame, self objectification and their appearance goal. Their conclusion said grade level and ethnicity do not play a significant role in the effects of the media on body perceptions (Riebock Bae, 2013). However, what does play a role is gender. Many believe that this policy has reduced drug addiction, but others feel that it has encouraged the use of illegal drugs. I believe that Portugal is taking the wrong stance against drugs and should be viewing them in a criminal manner. This policy can be supported in historical context via the burning of opium by the Chinese government and by the use of methamphetamine by German soldiers in World War II.The Chinese government was struggling to ban opium smoking recreationally and by 1729 the deemed it only legal to smoke for medical purposes. This inspired the Weimar and Nazi governments to adopt an attitude of tolerance toward the use of drugs to relieve pain, increase performance, and avoid withdrawal. Most drugs were permitted either universally or for individuals with a medical prescription. Thus, Drug use in the German military during World War II was actively encouraged and widespread, especially during the war s later stages as their military became depleted and increasingly dependent on youth as opposed to experience. The parties involved are the disgusting, scum of the earth who produce this ungodly entertainment for sick minded pedophiles, the US Supreme Court who have taken an oath to protect the innocent, and the putrid pedophiles who watch this abomination of god and all that is evil. In addition to every child that ever was, and every child that will be sexually abused in the future because some sick f!*k gets his/her jollies off by watching children being tortured, and will at some point in time inflict the lifelong pain and suffering that one goes through, because they were sexually abused. If you think of doing sin, it is as bad as the sin itself. Therefore, watching a cartoon of a child being abused and having sexual gratification in that act, is as bad as one who actually commits the act. This is done in a number of ways but all are essentially a computer program that can re program its self based on external stimulus or experience. In machine learning the program is referred to as the agent. The first example of machine learning was completed by Arthur Samuel. • 18. The Lathe Of Heaven Analysis Throughout the novel, The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin, Haber argues multiple reasons for why having the opportunity to change the world for the better is a positive resource for the world to have. In my opinion, having the power Haber has over Orr, is too much of a responsibility for an individual to handle alone. I disagree with haber s view on how change through Orr s effective dreaming is an advantage to humanity because natural order doesn t lead to entropy, the journey is just as important as the destination, and no individual should have the power to control the masses. Haber argues that natural order leads to entropy. Ultimately, what is at stake here is complete disorder of the world. When one has the ability to change the... Some may believe that they would gain more from the car ride than they would have gotten from the subway trip. Both ways would have gotten you to your destination, yet many people prefer different types of transportation over others. An example from the book that explains the possible routes that Haber could have taken, which could have lead to more positive results include when he decided to take over Orr s mind through hypnotic suggestion and implying to him to dream of peace. If he had taken a different route to get his overall result of peace such, as running organizations about equality and peace with a firm hand, he wouldn t have ever been able to create a world where aliens even exist. If he had taken another route to peace in the world everyone affected would have gotten more preferable results than the disadvantages he received from taking the route he actually took. Design thinking, originated from basic practices of designers, is a series of activities and attitudes toward bringing innovation [3][26]. This idea does not claim a necessity of being a designer, but designers may have a high potential to be an innovator in a various occasion. In fact, recent management studies discovered that industrial designers contribute to innovative scientific research in the natural science field [5][29]. These studies clearly illustrate how industrial designers tactfully set a demand pull goal and facilitate consensus building among research project members. They are also likely to achieve technological innovation in the industry sector. Reference [27] found their superiority in setting a consumer oriented goal. Then it flickered suddenly, and he felt tiny tongues of heat begin to creep across and into his frozen feet and legs. He felt his face begin to glow and the tense, cold skin of his arms and hands relax. (Lowry 177). Jonas was escaping from his own community. He was out in the freezing cold, starving, and about to reach death. The village was a hallucination because he was trying to see a happy side of the situation. The era was a time of conflict between people s secular desires as innovation boomed and their spiritual growth as they discovered more about God and explored new religious ideas. In his essay, Worlds of Wonder in the Northern Colonies, David D. Hall accurately argues that despite the secular advances of the Colonial Era, religionwas undoubtedly the most prevalent area of Americans focus because the power of Godwas being manifested into their lives in so many irrefutable ways. One reason for the Colonial Americans growth in faithis the fact the era was abundant with religious figures who strove to lead people to God and created guidelines for them to live by. The people of Colonial America were blessed to abide in an enchanted world of wonders. These wonders were no doubt brought on by the hand of God, and the recognition of this fact caused new religious leaders to rise up and help people focus on living Godly lives despite the secular distractions that they were presented with. One Puritan leader, John Winthrop, stated, That which the most in their Churches maintain as a truth in profession only, we must bring into familiar and constant practice, as in this duty of love we must love brotherly without dissimulation, we must love one another with a pure heart fervently we must bear one another s burdens... Winthrop not only wanted each individual person to maintain a stronger focus on faith in daily life, he also wanted them to use their faith to unite together, and his Model of Christian Charity showed the people how to accomplish that. Many people tried to abide by these teachings and pass them onto their children before they made their own way in the changing, confusing world because many parents feared their children would Fall un wares in Fowler s snare. A second reason for the religious prevalence in Colonial America was the evil that people faced. In the beginning of the movie the space aspect is revealed to the audience because as a viewer you figure out the setting of the film. This noticeable mis en scene at this time of the movie gives us information about the main character that gives the viewers a wider range of information that would not have been known without the mis en scene. • 27. Trial By Fire Did Daxas Execute An Innocent Man By David... In David Grann s Trial by Fire: Did Texas Execute an Innocent Man? , published on September 7, 2009, the overall question addressed is whether we should keep the death penalty legal. Grann begins his argument with his account of the events that occurred on the morning of December 23, 1991 in Corsicana, Texas. Cameron Todd Willingham , the husband and father of three children awakes to a blaze of fire in his one story house (I). Willingham exits out the front door and distraughtly tells a nearby neighbor to call 911. By the time the fire is extinguished, Willingham s children are dead and arson investigators come to the house to inspect four days later (I). The two investigators conclude that the fire is arson and it is considered a triple murdercommitted by Willingham so they bring him in for questioning. This along with neighborhood witness testimony leads to an arrest, which is punishable by death under Texas law. Before the trial, the state gives Willingham a plea deal that if he pleads guilty he will get life in prison avoiding the death penalty (I). Willingham rejects the plea deal and is found guilty. From there, Grann uses sections II through V to pick holes in the original case of the prosecution. Findings of Dr. Gerald Hurst give Willingham some sense of hope that his name might be cleared as an experiment on Lime street is conducted. The intention is to recreate the scene of a previous arson case similar to Willingham s (IV). In the original findings of the arson investigators, the only way flashover can occur is by the presence of some sort of accelerant; however, the experiment shows that flashover can still occur in a wood structured house and these signs of flashover are similar to the signs of arson (IV). Willingham s final appeal is denied by the Board of Pardons and Paroles so he is executed on February 17th, 2006 (Gran V). The central argument Grann proposes in his article is that the death penalty should be removed because without the implication of clear forensic evidence, we can never be truly sure if an individual is guilty. He ends his essay with a statement from the commission claiming that, There is a chance, however, that Texas could become the first state to acknowledge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cryogens are effective thermal storage media which, when used for automotive purposes, offer significant advantages over current and proposed electrochemical battery technologies, both in performance and economy. An automotive propulsion concept is presented which utilizes liquid nitrogen as the working fluid for an open Rankine cycle. The principle of operation is like that of a steam engine, except there is no combustion involved. Liquid nitrogen is pressurized and then vaporized in a heat exchanger by the ambient temperatureof the surrounding air. The resulting high pressure nitrogen gas is fed to the engine converting pressure into mechanical power. The only exhaust is nitrogen. The usage of cryogenic fuels has significant advantage over other fuel. Also, factors such as production and storage of nitrogen and pollutants in the exhaust give advantage for the cryogenic fuels. Elizabeth Gaskell comments on these expectations in her novel Mary Barton, especially through the actions of the titular character, during the Industrial Revolution. Because of the Industrial Revolution s substantial impacts, Mary s characterization is a reaction to these impacts. Gaskell recognized that the period was very dynamic, especially regarding the roles of women (Al Haj 1134). Pearl Brown notes, Mary Barton reflects on the impact at mid century of this new culture on gender roles (Brown 346). The Industrial Revolution served as a catalyst leading to a change of women s roles out of necessity. Mary s characterization, especially at the latter half of the novel, is atypical. • 36. Transition From Transitional Lava Types Transition From Pahoehoe to A a In its most general sense, as the flow advances away from the vent, core temperature decreases leading to an increase in viscosity and ultimately marks a transition from pahoehoe to a a. This point of transition is most often referred to as the transition threshold (Peterson Tilling, 1980). Lava which continues to deform even after it has become highly viscous, may reach this threshold and subsequently changes to a a. There are many factors which govern this change, and will be discussed in the proceeding section. Transitional lava types have been studied, such as the rubbly pahoehoe observed from the Laki flows, Iceland, of 1783 84 (Guilbaud, 2005), and slab pahoehoe on Kilauea (Peterson Tilling, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to this regard, it was first considered to be impossible (MacDonald, 1953). Factors Controlling Emplacement of Pahoehoe A a flow As discussed above, pahoehoe morphology forms from hotter, more fluid lava, and a a from critically stressed and highly viscous lava. As already alluded to, Peterson Tilling (1980) recognised an inverse relationship between viscosity and shear rate; if viscosity is low, a high rate of shear is required to begin transition to a a, giving rise to its characteristic brecciated surface. Likewise, if viscosity is high, a lower rate of shear will induce a transition. This section will discuss the most significant factors governing the transition. Effusion Rates During a magmatic episode, a high discharge rate of magma is likely to produce lava fountaining high into the air. It is inferred that the higher the fountaining, the more exposure the lava has to cool air, thus increasing its viscosity. Further, with a high flow rate, lava continues to move even if viscosity and yield stress is high. This continues up to a point at which surface disruptions can no longer be healed , and the transition threshold is duly reached. Rowland (1990) is one such advocate, attributing differences in lava type on Kilauea to differences in volumetric flow rate. Rowland concluded that: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Helen Of Troy Helen of Troy In Greek mythology, Helen of Troy, also known as Helen of Sparta, was the daughter of Zeus and Leda, and was a sister of Castor, Pollux, and Clytemnestra. In Greek myths, she was considered the most beautiful woman in the world. By marriage she was Queen of Laconia, a province within Homeric Greece, the wife of King Menelaus. Her abduction by Paris, Prince of Troy, brought about the Trojan War. Elements of her putative biography come from classical authors such as Aristophanes, Cicero, Euripides and Homer (both The Iliad and The Odyssey). In her youth she was abducted by, or eloped with, Theseus, and in some accounts bore him a child. A competition between her suitors for her hand in marriage sees Menelaus emerge victorious.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first and last appearances are specified in the title of Roisman s article. Helen has mixed feelings because she feels some complicity in her own abduction and realizes how much death and suffering has been the result. That her Trojan husband is not terribly manly compared with his brother or her first husband only increases her feelings of regret. However, it is not clear that Helen had any choice. She is, after all, a possession; one of many Paris stole from Argos, although the only one he is unwilling to return (7.362 64). Helen s fault lies in her beauty rather than in her acts, according to the old men at the Scaean Gate (3.158). Helen s First Appearance Helen s first appearance is when the goddess Iris, disguised as a sister in law, comes to summon Helen from her weaving. Weaving is a typically wifely occupation, but the subject Helen is weaving is unusual, since she is depicting the suffering of the Trojan War heroes. Roisman argues this shows Helen s willingness to take responsibility for precipitating the deadly course of events. Iris, who summons Helen to witness a duel between her two husbands to decide with whom she will live, inspires Helen with a longing for her original husband, Menelaus. Helen does not appear to see behind the disguise to the goddess and goes compliantly, without uttering a word. Then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare and Contrast William Blake s The Chimney Sweeper, Holy Thursday (Innocence) and London I am going to compare and contrast three of William Blake poems, where he shows his feelings about the way people treat children: The Chimney Sweeper, Holy Thursday (Innocence) and London. The Chimney Sweeper is about a child who sweeps chimneys. William Blake sets this poem in the winter. The children worked in the cold. Blake says, A little black thing among the snow, The little black thing, Is the child who is dirty from cleaning the chimneys who stands out in the snow. He also looks like a black mask on the landscape. Like a dirty stain. Crying weep, weep in the notes of woe! Blake hears them crying a song. As children do ... Who have made up a heaven of our misery (paradox) and yet these adults seem able to continue their lives and forget the dilemma of the children. In the poem London William Blake makes a political statement about London. I wondered throu each charter d street he is leisurely walks through the streets of London. Charter d is to be on the map. Blake is making an attack on the establishment, he is blaming the government for the fact that people living in London at this time have been worn down by the system, making them weak, burnt out and powerless. This theme is deeply entangled with Beethoven s Ninth Symphony and the idea the Ninth provides the backdrop to pivotal violent points during the movie. Free will in the movie is often depicted as the presence of a moral choice. This moral choice for Alex is heavily influenced by the way society and the government views the young people of that time period. The youth are neglected not only by their parents, but by the society who is supposed to be welcoming them with open arms and helping them become a productive, responsible adult. John Locke suggests in his Social Contract Theory that the idea that though men are by nature free, equal and independent , they can be subjected to the political power of another with their consent. Even though Snyder lost his best friend Lew Welch to suicide, anyone that has lost a loved one can relate to this poem. The poem is very powerful but with minimal words. Unlike For/From Lew , also written by Gary Snyder, For Lew Welch in a Snowfall is joyful because it seems that Snyder is enjoying the memories that he shared with his best friend, and it seems he is more at peace with the situation. Also, For Lew Welch in a Snowfall does not have dialogue, which makes it easier for the reader to know who the narrator is, and it makes it easier for the reader to understand what the poem is about.
