Introducción/Introduction/Einführung
Los tejidos que conforman el presente catálogo, son
parte del trabajo realizado por las Artesanas Tejedoras
Aymaras de las localidades de Putre y Chucuyo, en
la provincia de Parinacota, las que trabajan la fibra
de alpaca siguiendo técnicas de la cultura andina del
extremo Norte de Chile.

The fabric that makes up this catalog is part of the work
done by Aymara weavers from the towns Putre and
Chucuyo, in the Parinacota Province. These artisans
work the alpaca fiber using techniques of Andean culture
of northern Chile.
Diese Broschüre aus Alpaka-Leinen ist Teil der Arbeit, die
die Kunsthandweber der Aymara-Kultur aus den Orten Putre
und Chucuyo in der Provinz Parinacota erarbeiten. Die
Kunsthandwerker bearbeiten die Faser der Alpakawolle nach
den althergebrachten Techniken der Andenkultur im hohen
Norden Chiles.

Los procesos que desarrollan las Tejedoras van desde la obtención de
la lana de alpaca, hilado, torcido, lavado y teñidos, o sea hasta que la
fibra se encuentra totalmente lista para la confección de las prendas. Se
utilizan principalmente colores de lana natural, sin embargo, también se
usan tonalidades obtenidas de pigmentos naturales, extraídos de hierbas
de la zona andina de la Región de Arica y Parinacota.

Weavers develop processes covering from getting the alpaca wool, spinning, twisting,
washing and dyeing it, until the fiber is completely ready for weaving garments. They
mainly use natural wool colors, however, they also use tonalities obtained from natural
pigments extracted from herbs of the Andean Region of Arica and Parinacota.

Die Weberinnen übernehmen alle Produktionsschritte
selbst, von der Beschaffung der Alpakawolle über
das Spinnen, Zwirnen, Waschen bis hin zum Färben,
bis die Faser fertig ist, um aus ihr Kleidungsstücke
herzustellen. Hauptsächlich verarbeiten sie die Wolle mit
ihrer natürlichen Farbe, manchmal bedienen sie sich aber
auch Grundfarben, die sie aus natürlichen Pigmenten von
Kräutern der Andenregion Arica und Parinacota gewinnen.

Entre las principales prendas que confeccionan
las Artesanas Tejedoras Aymaras podemos
mencionar: chalecos, faldas, vestidos, chales,
ponchos, gorros, bufandas, ruanas y aguayos,
entre otros tejidos tradicionales de la cultura
Aymara.
The major clothes and articles that are
produced by the Aymara Weavers,
include: vests, skirts, dresses, shawls,
hats, scarves, ponchos and mantles,
and other traditional weavings of the
Aymara culture.
Die wichtigsten Artikel die von
d e n Aymara Weberinnen hergestellt
werden, sind unter anderem Westen,
Röcke, Kleider, Schals, Mützen,
Halstücher, Ponchos, Mäntel und
traditionelle Kinderkraxen. Es gibt aber
auch noch einige weitere traditionelle
Webstücke der Aymara-Kultur mit
Namen ohne Übersetzung.

La artesanía en la cultura Aymara/handcraft in the Aymara
culture/Kunsthandwerk der Aymara-Kultur
Los Aymaras son uno de los pueblos indígenas que existen en Chile, siendo parte de
la cultura andina más antigua.
The Aymara are one of the indigenous population that exist in Chile, being part of the oldest
Andean culture.

Die Aymara-Dörfer sind Teil der ältesten Andenkultur, die in Chile existiert.

Los Aymaras poseen habilidades como artesanos textiles, haciendo uso de las fibras de alpaca
principalmente, también de llamas para la confección de tejidos tradicionales. Haciendo uso de técnicas de
hilado, escarmenado, teñido con tintes naturales y la confección de tejidos y trenzados a través de telares
y técnicas de estacas, las que se han traspasado de generación en generación. Sus textiles contienen una
gran cantidad de detalles que plasman sus pensamientos, simbología, leyendas y mitos propios de sus
costumbres ganaderas, las que llevan muchos siglos expresando y construyendo su propia historia.
The Aymara people have skills as textile craftsmen, using alpaca fibers as well as llama also
for traditional weaving. They use special spinning techniques, “escarmenado”, dye with natural
colors and make weavings with looms and stake techniques, which have been passed on from
generation to generation. Their textiles contain a great variety of details which reflect their way
of thinking, symbols, legends and myths of their own traditions, which has for many centuries
built and expressed their own story.
Die Aymara-Bevölkerung hat herausstechende Fertigkeiten in der Webkunst, sie benutzen
größtenteils Fasern aus Alpakawolle, aber auch Lama um die traditionellen Gewänder herzustellen.
Sie verwenden spezielle Spinntechniken das sog. „escarmenado“, färben mit natürlich vorkommenden
Farben und stellen Webstücke mit Webstühlen und Techniken her, die seit langer Zeit von Generation zu
Generation weitergegeben werden. Ihre Webstücke beinhalten eine große Vielfalt an Details, welche die
Art des Denkens, die Symbolik, Legenden und Mythen ihrer Traditionen wiederspiegeln, die sie über Jahrhunderte lebten und somit ihre eigene Geschichte kreierten.

Como todas las culturas andinas no poseían un sistema de escritura, pero en
muchos casos los motivos se expresaban a través de sus textiles, siendo mensajes
que se querían contar. La mayoría de los conocimientos eran traspasados de
generación en generación en forma oral, siendo la lengua Aymara una de las
más antiguas del mundo.
Like all Andean cultures the Aymara did not have an own writing system, but in many cases
the ideas were expressed through their textiles, with messages that they wanted to tell.
Most of the knowledge was passed on from generation to generation orally, this makes the
Aymara language one of the oldest in the world.
Keine der Andenkulturen entwickelte ein eigenes Schriftsystem, aber
oftmals drückten sie mit Motiven auf ihren Webtextilien Nachrichten aus, die
sie berichten wollten. Der Großteil der Bräuche und Techniken wurden von
Generation zu Generation in mündlicher Form überliefert, was die Sprache der
Aymara zu einer der ältesten der Welt macht.

The main products that are woven by the Aymara artisans are
gloves, hats, scarves, shawls, ponchos, socks, Awayu, among
others.
Die wichtigsten Produkte, die von den Aymara gewebt
werden, sind Handschuhe, Mützen, Halstücher, Schals,
Ponchos, Socken, Awayus und andere mehr.
Actualmente, el pueblo Aymara
habita en las regiones de
Arica y Parinacota, Tarapacá y
Antofagasta. Una parte de ellos
aun trabaja y vive de acuerdo a sus
costumbres y tradiciones.
En el censo del 2002 se
contaron 48.501 Aymaras
que viven en territorio
nacional chileno.

Posee el local de artesanías “Wiñaymarka” (“Pueblo Eterno”) en la plaza de Putre. Utiliza las
técnicas del palillo, crochet, telar de dos pedales y telar de clavos. Sus principales productos
son chalecos, calcetines, vestidos, bufandas y chales elaborados 100% en fibra de Alpaca.
Sus principales clientes son turistas extranjeros que visitan la localidad de Putre.
She owns the handcraft shop “Wiñaymarka” (“Eternal People”) in Putre Square.
She Uses the stick techniques, crochet, two pedal loom and clove loom. Her main
products are jackets, socks, dresses, scarves and shawls made 100% of Alpaca
fiber. Her main customers are foreign tourists who visit the town of Putre.
Sie ist die Besitzerin eines Kunsthandwerksladens namens „Wiñaymarka“ (das ewige Volk) am
Hauptplatz von Putre. Sie arbeitet mit den Techniken Sticken und Häkeln, einem Webstuhl mit
zwei Pedalen und einer Nagelwebtechnik. Ihre wichtigsten Produkte sind Westen, Socken,

“Mal Paso” de CONAF, a un costado del Lago Chungará. Confecciona bufandas, chales,
ponchos, cubrecamas, ruanas, gorros, guantes, medias y chalecos, utilizando fibra de
alpaca. Utiliza las técnicas de palillos, telar de dos pedales y telar de cuatro pedales.
She owns “Doña Juanita”. She has a store in the refugee “Mal Paso” CONAF, next
to Lake Chungará. She makes scarves, shawls, ponchos, blankets, hats, gloves,
socks and vests, using alpaca fiber. Techniques used are stick, two and four
pedal looms.
Diese Dame ist die Eigentümerin des Kunsthandwerksgeschäfts “Doña Juanita“. Der Laden
liegt im Gebiet „Mal Paso“ CONAF, an dem See Lago Chungará. Zu ihren aus Alpakafaser
hergestellten Produkten gehören u.a. Halstücher, Schals, Ponchos, Mützen, Betttücher,
Handschuhe, Socken und Westen. Zur Erstellung ihrer Produkte benutzt sie verschiedene

de Putre. Su esposa, la Sra. Angélica Sánchez es la encargada de confeccionar Chales,
aguayos, ruanas, frazadas, ponchos, bufandas, vestidos, guantes, calcetas, puntillas y
chompas, utilizando las técnicas del palillo, Telar de cuatro estacas, máquina manual y crochet,
utilizando fibra de alpaca y en menor cantidad fibra de oveja. Sus principales clientes son
turistas nacionales y extranjeros.

Alpaquita“. Seine Frau, Angélica Sánchez ist verantwortlich für das Weben von Schals,
Mänteln, Bettdecken, Ponchos, Halstüchern, Kleidern, Handschuhen, Socken, Schnürsenkeln,
„Puntillas“ und Pullovern. Sie benutzt für ihre Arbeit verschiedene Sticktechniken, einen
Vierstichwebstuhl, eine handbetriebene Häkelmaschine und unterschiedliche Häkeltechniken.
Alpakafaser ist ihr Hauptrohstoff, ansonsten dient ihr auch Schafwolle als Grundstoff für ihre

Das Kunsthandwerksgeschäft “Chungará” (Weiser Mann) liegt in mitten von Putres Zentrum.
Sie hat sich spezialisiert Halstücher, Halsbänder und Kopftücher aus fast ausschließlich
