Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).
AI Trends in Creative Operations 2024 by Artwork Flow.pdfmarketingartwork
Creative operations teams expect increased AI use in 2024. Currently, over half of tasks are not AI-enabled, but this is expected to decrease in the coming year. ChatGPT is the most popular AI tool currently. Business leaders are more actively exploring AI benefits than individual contributors. Most respondents do not believe AI will impact workforce size in 2024. However, some inhibitions still exist around AI accuracy and lack of understanding. Creatives primarily want to use AI to save time on mundane tasks and boost productivity.
Organizational culture includes values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits that influence employee behaviors and how people interpret those behaviors. It is important because culture can help or hinder a company's success. Some key aspects of Netflix's culture that help it achieve results include hiring smartly so every position has stars, focusing on attitude over just aptitude, and having a strict policy against peacocks, whiners, and jerks.

Google's Just Not That Into You: Understanding Core Updates & Search IntentLily Ray
1. Core updates from Google periodically change how its algorithms assess and rank websites and pages. This can impact rankings through shifts in user intent, site quality issues being caught up to, world events influencing queries, and overhauls to search like the E-A-T framework.
2. There are many possible user intents beyond just transactional, navigational and informational. Identifying intent shifts is important during core updates. Sites may need to optimize for new intents through different content types and sections.
3. Responding effectively to core updates requires analyzing "before and after" data to understand changes, identifying new intents or page types, and ensuring content matches appropriate intents across video, images, knowledge graphs and more.

Edelholz in verschiedenen Varianten
Die Auswahl an Edelhölzern ist sehr
breit. Angefangen bei den klassischen
Typen wie Kirsche, Nussbaum oder
Rosenholz über exotische Hölzer in
allen möglichen Farben von rot, grün
bis blau, den exklusiven Varianten
Mahagoni, Makassar oder Teak bis zu
Restbeständen von geschützten
Raritäten wie Umbra und Rio Palisander
wählen Sie bei uns aus einem
reichhaltigen Lagerbestand von über
einhundert verschiedenen Edelhölzern.

Die hohe Kunst liegt in der Bearbeitung
der edlen Hölzer. So beherrschen wir
die Herstellung von filigranen
Sonderteilen mit höchster Präzision
beispielsweise für die Uhrenindustrie
oder wie auf der Abbildung ersichtlich,
für den Einsatz in exklusiven
Schreibwerkzeugen. 3D-Furniere ziehen
wir hochprofessionell auf gewölbte und
selbst auf kugelförmige Vorlagen auf.
Mit der richtigen Behandlung des
Holzes wird dieses hochglänzend,
steinhart, kratzfest sowie gegen
Feuchtigkeit geschützt und selbst starke
Temperaturschwankungen bringen die
einzigartigen Werkstücke nicht mehr
aus der Form.

Zusammengesetzte Hölzer
Sämtliche Werkstücke und selbst
Furniere können wir alternativ aus
zusammengesetzten Hölzern anbieten.
Auf dem ersten Bild sind Hülsen für
Schreibgeräte zu sehen, welche aus
mehrteiligen Hölzern hergestellt
wurden. Die Anzahl und Wahl der
Basishölzer sowie deren Anordnung
kennt kaum Grenzen – Punkte, Streifen
und selbst Bilder sind realisierbar.

3D-Furniere
Nebst dem klassischen Bezug von
ebenen Flächen können wir Ihnen die
Veredelung von beinahe beliebigen
Formen mittels Echtholz und weiteren
Materialien wie Stein, Leder oder
Carbon anbieten.

Edelholz zusammen.
Ein entscheidender Vorteil unseres
Verfahrens liegt darin, dass wir beinahe
sämtliche Trägermaterialien
(Kunststoffe, Metalle, Hölzer,
Verbundwerkstoffe, etc.) belegen
können, ohne dass sich diese verziehen.
Auch die Stabilität des 3D-Furniers ist
gewährleistet – insbesondere unter
dem Einfluss von Hitze, Kälte und
Feuchtigkeit. Wie am Beispiel des
Dampfausstosses eines
Kaffeeautomaten realisiert, lassen sich
selbst Hotspots verzugsfrei auffangen.
Auch so filigrane und flexible Teile wie
Brillengestelle belegen wir mit Edelholz.
Ihren Ideen sind also kaum Grenzen
gesetzt.

Edelmetalle: ein Programm mit Anspruch
Gold

Damaszener-Stahl (Damast)
Der Begriff Damaszener-Stahl oder
Damast-Stahl bezeichnet einen
Werkstoff aus einer oder mehreren
Eisen/Stahlsorten, der in poliertem
oder geätztem Zustand eine klare
Struktur aus mehreren sich
abwechselnden Bereichen aus
unterschiedlichem Material erkennen
lässt. Damaszener-Stahl verbindet im
Idealfall die guten Eigenschaften
verschiedener Stähle, d.h. er ist
gleichsam flexibel und schnitthaltig. Die
Bedeutung des Damaststahles bestand
im Altertum vor allem in der Benutzung

des Materials zur Waffenherstellung.
Heute setzen wir handgeschmiedeten
Damaststahl zur Veredelung von
exklusiven Schmuckstücken wie Uhren
ein. Der ästhetische Reiz und die
Individualität dieses – wieder modern

Corian (unifarbig / lichtdurchlässig)
Corian ist ein in Acryl gebundenes
Mineral. Dieses künstliche „Mineral“ ist
in beinahe jeder beliebigen Farbnuance
(unifarbig) oder in Steinoptik (Marmor,
Granit, etc.) erhältlich und zeichnet sich
gegenüber dem echtem Stein durch
eine hohe Homogenität in der Optik
(fehlerfreier Stein) als auch durch
Rissfreiheit aus.
Durch die speziellen Eigenschaften von
Corian entstehen vielfältige und
attraktive Verwendungsmöglichkeiten.
Unter starker Erhitzung kann dieses

innovative Material auf alle möglichen
Arten verformt werden. So können

Kohlenstofffasern auch Carbonfasern
genannt, werden wie Textilgewebe
gewoben und schimmern mit einem
edlen Glanz. Carbon ist immer schwarz.
Inzwischen sind jedoch Varianten aus
anderen Fasern, welche mit derselben
Optik aufwarten in diversen Farben
erhältlich. Wie auf dem Bild in der

aus unterschiedlich eingefärbten Fasern
angeboten.
Texalium ist eine weitere Alternative,
bestehend aus Aluminiumfasern, die

einen metallisch glänzenden Charakter
aufweist.
Diese Gewebe lassen sich auf jegliche
Oberflächen aufbringen – selbst
Halbkugeln oder schlauchförmige
Körper lassen sich damit belegen.
Anschliessend wird das Gewebe mit
Epoxidharz getränkt und, um ein edles
Finish zu erzielen, mehrfach lackiert.
Carbonfasern vermitteln eine kühle,
technische Anmutung und werden –
aus funktionellen Gründen –
vorwiegend im technischen Bereich
verwendet. In Kombination mit
metallischen Oberflächen bleibt dieser
kalte Eindruck erhalten. Hingegen
entsteht in Verbindung mit
Holzwerkstoffen ein gänzlich anderes,
wärmeres Gefühl von Carbon.

Kombination von Materialien (Interdisziplinarität)
Oftmals liegt der Reiz eines Designs in
der Kombination von verschiedenen
Materialien. Die Verbindung von
Edelstahl mit Glas, Edelholz mit Leder
oder Edelstahl mit Holz und Glas wertet
die einzelnen Komponenten auf. Zudem
lassen sich durch die Verwendung von
unterschiedlichen Rohstoffen beim
Herstellungsprozess Kosten einsparen.
So kann beispielsweise ein Edelmetall
hauchdünn auf einen Kunststoffträger
aufgebracht werden.
Der Einsatz von (versteckten) Sensoren,

Oberflächen mit Patina-Optik
Oxidierte Oberflächen von Eisen,
Kupfer, Messing oder Bronze und
weiteren Metallen liegen derzeit voll im
Trend.
Die Oxidation lässt sich nach Bedarf
partiell oder ganzflächig hervorrufen,
wobei der Grad der Korrosion detailliert
gesteuert werden kann. Die Fixierung
mittels eines Lackes garantiert, dass die
Optik nachträglich stabil bleibt.
Gegenwärtig stehen drei
unterschiedliche Verfahren zur

Verfügung um Rost oder Patina
Oberflächen zu realisieren. Wir
arbeiten zum einen mit echten,
massiven Basismetallen, welche wir im
gewünschten Grad oxidieren. Alternativ
lässt sich auch die hauchdünne
metallisierte Oberfläche, die
beispielsweise auf einen
Kunststoffträger aufgebracht wurde,
mit einer echten Korrosionsschicht
versehen. Als dritte Variante stehen
metallhaltige Lacke zur Verfügung,
welche ebenfalls Patina-Effekte
aufweisen.

Flambiertes Silber
Silber ist ein reizvolles Edelmetall.
Leider verfärbt sich die Oberfläche im
Laufe der Zeit durch Oxydation dunkel.
Durch Flambieren nehmen wir diesen
Effekt vorweg und verleihen dem edlen
Werkstoff dadurch eine einzigartige
Eleganz. Dank diesem
Verarbeitungsschritt bleibt die
Oberfläche stabil. Besonders in
Kombination mit anderen Materialen,
wie Holz, Glas oder Leder entstehen
äusserst exklusiv wirkende Produkte.

Hochglanzoberflächen zeichnen sich
durch eine besondere Tiefenqualität
aus.
Der Lackierung fällt nicht nur eine
ästhetische Rolle zu, sondern sie
beinhaltet eine Reihe von zusätzlichen
Funktionen: Kratzfestigkeit, Schutz vor
Feuchtigkeit des Basiswerkstoffes,
Schonung vor Abnützung und
Verfärbung, Vermeidung von
Fingerabdrücken und Verschmutzung,
sowie Abmilderung von Hitze‐ und
Kältebelastungen.
Heute verwenden wir vorwiegend Zwei‐
und Dreikomponenten‐Lacke, die
bezüglich ihrer positiven Eigenschaften
sehr vorteilhaft eingesetzt werden
können. Einkomponenten‐Lacke (1K‐
Lacke) werden derweil vorwiegend
unter ökologischen Kriterien bevorzugt.

Veredelung von bestehenden Produkten
Einen beträchtlichen Teil unserer Arbeit
verbringen wir damit, bestehende
Produkte – sowohl Einzelstücke als
auch Serienprodukte – zu veredeln.
Das kann eine hochwertige Lackierung
mit einer ausgewählten Farbe für eine
Sonderserie, die Vergoldung eines
Jubiläumsstückes, die Anpassung der
Oberfläche einiger exklusiver
Steuergeräte mittels Holz und
Lederapplikationen passend zum Stil
des Einsatzortes oder die Belegung von
Hi-End Lautsprechern mit Carbon sein.

Alle genannten Beispiele erfordern die
Demontage von Komponenten wie
Frontblenden, Knöpfen oder
elektronischen Bauteilen damit eine
einwandfreie Veredelung
vorgenommen werden kann. Oft
müssen die Originalteile modifiziert
(beispielsweise abgeschliffen, gefüllt
oder stabilisiert) werden, um zu
gewährleisten, dass die Abmessungen
nach der Veredelung identisch bleiben
und dass die hohen Qualitätsansprüche
erfüllt werden können. Wir sind
zertifiziert elektronische Bauteile ein-
und auszubauen oder beispielsweise
Schalter durch kapazitive Sensoren zu
ersetzen um diese unter der neuen
Oberfläche verschwinden zu lassen.
Schlussendlich montieren wir das
Originalequipment wieder fachgerecht
zusammen, damit dieses im neuen
Kleid glänzen kann.
Sie haben somit die Möglichkeit, den
gesamten Prozess der Veredlung
vollständig an uns auslagern.
