How Can You Ensure That You Are Giving Learners The Best...
How can you ensure that you are giving learners the best chance to understand a text? Provide a
(listening or reading) text and show how you would teach a lesson with this in mind, justifying each of
the stage of the lesson.
Listening is the ability to identify and understand what others are saying. This involves understanding
a speaker s accent or pronunciation, his grammar and his vocabulary, and grasping his meaning
(Howatt and Dakin). An able listener is capable of doing these four things together. During the
listening students hear different accents and types.
When students listen or read they process the information they hear both top down and bottom up. Top
down means using our prior knowledge and experiences; we know certain things about certain topics
or situations and use that information to understand. Bottom up processing means using the
information we have about the sounds, word meanings discourse markers like first, then, and after that
to set up our understanding what we read or hear one step at a time. In order to improve students
listening comprehension they should use their prior knowledge. In a typical reading lesson there are
pre activities, while activities, and post activities. In reading learners can skim a text quickly to get a
good idea what it s about, but listeners cannot skim. In listening lesson also has pre , while and post
listening tasks. Each of these tasks is very important in order to ensure that the students understand

Norman Bates In Psycho
The Essence of Psychological Innocence In Alfred Hitchcock s film Psycho, Norman Bates is
portrayed as a serial killer. Many would imply the notion that Norman is guilty due to the multiple
killings he performed throughout the film; however, Norman Bates is innocent. Suffering from
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) or multiple personality disorder Bates uncontrollable and
horrendous acts of murder [are his] cries for help. In the same fashion, Bates lack of social interaction
alongside his mother s influence both play grand roles in his inability to properly interact with people.
Moreover, in Bates twisted childhood, he depended strongly on his mother for social interaction. . The
moment Norman matricide his mother he disconnected himself from the only social interaction that he
had. Matricide is when a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the film, he talks about taking care of his mother when he was having a conversation with Marion
Crane, Norman states to Marion I don t hate her; I hate the illness, meaning he loves her, but he is
aware of the mental toll that she has put him through. He was hinting that his mother was not normal
or that he wasn t himself. Marion suggested that maybe he should committed her to a mental
institution. Norman immediately shut that idea down by stating, If you love someone, you don t do
that to them, he fights his mother mentally, but he treats her like his lover. In his mind it was the
mental version of her not allowing him to come out of the house and interact with other women that
sparked his Dissociative Identity Disorder. She used her son as a substitute lover and her hatred for
any women that could take Norman away is what triggered his disorder. In his mind he thinks he is his
mother, and he thinks he switches roles. Bates looks caring, innocent and helpful, but in reality, he is

Co-Evolving with Our Microbiome
The idea that humans have power over our health has a long history in American popular culture. We
tend to believe we are the masters of our own destiny and can solve the problems of our internal
workings according to our will, power of positive thinking, upbeat attitude or a fighting spirit however
we cannot ignore our living environment and the organisms that co exist among us. As it turns out, we
share our bodies with an unimaginably vast array of organisms that seem to play a substantial role in
our well being.
Both in and on our body, there are 10 bacterial cells for every single human cell. This collection of
organisms that inhabit the human body is referred to as the microbiome and accounts for nearly 2% of
our total body weight. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
H. pylori thrives in the acidic environment of the stomach and the finding that this bacteria contributed
to the condition was remarkable news and led to the standard practice of treating peptic ulcers with
antibiotics. As a result, the rate of H. pylori induced ulcers has dropped by more than 50 percent.
(Ackerman, 2012)
Recently it was discovered that H. pylori has another job besides regulating acid. It plays an important
role in signaling our hunger. Our stomach produces two hormones that regulate food intake. Ghrelin
(the hunger hormone) tells your brain you need food and Leptin tells your brain your stomach is full.
Your ghrelin levels are high when you have not eaten for a while, which is why you are hungry when
you wake up in the morning. After you eat breakfast, your ghrelin levels decrease. Studies have shown
that H. pylori significantly regulates ghrelin levels and without it, these levels may be unregulated
which can lead to increased appetite and excessive caloric intake. Studies have shown that those who
have been treated by antibiotics to eliminate H. pylori, gained weight because their ghrelin levels
stayed elevated causing them to feel hungry longer therefor increasing their caloric intake. This
example illustrates that we may not really understand the consequences of the wide use of antibiotics.
Obesity could very well be one of those consequences. We take antibiotics to target the bad bacteria
however it affects the good bacteria too. Two

The Detrimental Effects Of Sleep Deprivation On Cognitive
Introduction Sleep deprivation is a phenomena which has been extensively studied on its own, but the
effects of sleep deprivation on cognition and working memory in particular have been an area of
interest to a lot of researchers. The research done on this topic has collectively found that sleep
deprivation has detrimental affects on cognition. Studies such as the experiment conducted by Joo,
Yoon, Koo, Kim, and Hong in 2012 outline how sleep deprivation can result in deficits in cognition.
The study explored how 24 hours of wakefulness affects cognitive functioning and stress hormones
(Joo, Yoon, Koo, Kim, Hong, 2012). In this study participants underwent electroencephalographic
monitoring while performing a test which consisted of responding ... Show more content on

If the results of this study align with the projected findings, future research can be conducted on the
basis of the conclusion of this study. This study could provide a backdrop for research in the future
that aims to better understand the relationship of sleep deprivation on different areas of human
cognition. Potential future studies could use the results from this study to conduct experiments to
improve general knowledge about how learning and retaining information are affected by lack of
sleep, which could ultimately help certain demographics, like students, who tend to rely heavily on
working memory while sleep deprived. The study will have a large generalizable sample to maintain
face validity, and will provide a framework for future researchers to conduct experiments about the

Pros And Cons Of Libertarianism
For this essay I shall explain libertarianism in a general sense, observing its aims and ideals for
society, what a government s role is in this society and what common views libertarians may share. I
will conclude with identifying a plausible form of this political philosophy based on the idealist merits
it puts forward to form a society based on personal freedom.
Libertarianism in a general sense is the view that every individual has the right to live their life in any
which way they may choose, so long as they hold respect for the equal rights of others. A Libertarian
government defends every individual s right to life, liberty, and property, observing that all people
hold this as a natural born right. Libertarians hold the view that, all individuals relationships should be
voluntary; and the main actions that should be restricted and punishable by law are those that involve
use of coercion against another or remove or impose on the rights of another in any such way. A
Libertarian is one who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state
(What is Libertarian? 2013).
As a political philosophy Libertarianism aims towards the upholding of everyone s personal liberties
as its main principle. Classical Libertinism is built on the idea ... Show more content on

interests and being able to live their lives as the individuals that they are, to better themselves and be

negative possibility of autonomous action, the ability to affect others negatively (What is Libertarian?

Environmental Challenges Of The American Automobile Industry
Environmental Challenges in the American Automobile Industry The American Auto Industry has
grown ever since it s upgraded in the early 1900s. Although the design for the modern car was
produced in Germany and France in the late 1800s, Americans controlled the industry in the first half
of the twentieth century. Henry Ford innovated mass production systems that enhanced model, with
Ford, General Motors and Chrysler beginning as the Big Three auto firms by the 1920s ,(Foner
Garrity 1991) But this manufacturing has continually been one of the best manufacturing for
environmental concerns and risks around the world, particularly in the United States. Many of the
concerns in this industry include; global race, modern technology for controlling the product, the
impacts of emission on the environment and the government s answer, as well as customer sentiments
about the outcome. Much like any manufacturing, the American auto industry is directed to global
competition. As declared beginning, the car was first developed in Germany and France. In 1995, the
United States and Japan made a business contract that supplied more seller outlets and provided

components and replacement auto pieces for Japanese cars manageable to reach in the United States

Kanye West s Pinocchio Story
Kanye West s Pinocchio Story explores the destabilized self from various perspectives in an effort to
democratize the artist s struggle for identity formation with the listener. Released in the 808s and
Heartbreak album, Pinocchio Story is a crude recording of a live freestyle Kanye performed in a
Singapore concert. In it, he croons about his mother s death and poor decisions that have controlled
the trajectory of his life. Kanye s quest for identity formation, kickstarted by his mother s death, leads
him through the realization of his cultural entrapment and shattered psyche due to media portrayal.
This song, Pinocchio Story, encompasses his struggle through his identity crisis, amplifying said quest
with the usage of raw sonic aesthetics. To properly understand the lyrics, contextual information is
needed. After introducing the necessary background information of the song, the identity crisis will be

Media Portrayal Of Violence In The Media
The risk of developing aggressive behavior is high among children who were raised in a negative
environment such as social and economic factors play a huge role. The primary place a children is in
is at home. Poverty has a significant impact on a child s social behavior these children that are raised
in poor environments have a higher risk of behavior problems. Impoverished communities have a
wide range of people living there not all the people in that neighborhood may have the same parenting
styles or teach their child to behave. Children in impoverished neighborhoods can often play with
other kids outdoors and since other children may not be raised to behave well they will bring that
behavior in their homes and begin to use it. Potential behavior that can arise from other children who
do not behave can lead to not respecting others, anger, and violence.
The media has been linked to aggressive behavior in children. The outcome of media portrayal of
violence can have lasting effects such as children can be begin to feel less sensitive to the pain and
suffering of others. Sometimes watching violence can even be enjoyable because of how the media
plays it out to be. It may be funny or no consequences or punishment to violent act committed.
Violence seems to be everywhere, on television, news, video games and especially movies this creates
a distorted view of what reality truly is. Children that watch violence on television will at some point
imitate those aggressive acts

Why Is John F Kennedy Successful
John F. Kennedy ran for congress in the year 1946 than for senate in 1952. John Kennedy was 43
years old when he was elected by the people in 1960 as our president of the United States. John F.
Kennedy became the youngest man the hold the office ( John F. Kennedy. History.com). John
Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy embraced his new leadership. As a president there
is little time to do great things. JFK provided support for the growing civil rights movement. Sending
troops to stand behind the desegregation in Mississippi after enormous riots leaving people injured,
some left for dead. Being the president has their challenges when the idea from a leader ends in
failure.
As a good leader giving up is never an option, Joh n Kennedy was confident after the successful he
has accomplished there was talk about his chance for re election in 1964. On Saturday November 22,
1963 in Dallas JFK was schedule to make appearance and give a speech at a luncheon. President

The teleological theory therefore holds that the rightness of an action is determined solely by its
consequences. The most common example of the teleological theory is Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism
(John Stuart Mills) the end justifies the means (Boatright, 2009)
Boatright explains that an action is right if, and only if it produces the greatest balance of pleasure
over pain for everyone. One Utilitarian thesis, the Maximalist, states that a right action is one that has
not merely some good consequences but the greatest amount of good consequences. Simply put, the
end justifies the means. Based on these definitions, we are convinced that Acme Title Pawn operated
in a highly utilitarian manner.
What justifies this decision?
Acme helped a great number of persons in dire financial need
These persons were desperate and had no alternative means of obtaining a loan
These persons had no or poor credit history
They had emergencies and could not afford to wait on the bureaucratic red tapes of the traditional
banking institutions
Loan quantities were too low to be issued by the traditional banking institutions even if the applicant
had a good credit history
Cash was readily available
No title or individual background checks were conducted

Too Big to Fail
Can banks become too big to fail , and should they be allowed to stay that way? On September 15th
2008, the investment bank Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy. It was, and still is, the biggest
bankruptcy filing in U.S. history , with Lehman s holding $691 billion in assets at the time. The event
was the catalyst for the current financial crisis. By the end of trading that day, $700bn had been wiped
off the global stock markets. The Dow Jones had plummeted 500 points, its biggest drop since the
terrorist attacks of 9/11 . Despite rumours and knowledge that Lehman s was struggling, with its share
price dropping daily, the huge drop in the financial markets was due to the huge shock. No one had

Furthermore, their size and capital allows them to provide those services at cheaper rates than their
smaller counterparts. The large banks can achieve much greater levels of economies of scale. Studies
by Boyd and Heitz have shown that larger banks, (defined as having assets of over $50 billion), have
higher scale economies than their smaller counterparts . The mean measure of scale economies in the
banking industry is 1.145, whilst the larger banks had a mean of 1.25, implying that they were
therefore 9.2% more efficient than the rest of the industry. They hereby estimated that the larger banks
economies of scale increased their contribution to national output by 9.2%. These proponents argue
that the social benefits derived from these economies of scale are beneficial enough to prevent the
stricter reforms and changes being discussed by governments around the world from being
implemented. One of the main arguments against banks becoming too big to fail is that a moral hazard
problem occurs. Moral hazard is a basic economic concept, whereby one party entering a transaction
will take more risky actions if they know they have insurance against the outcomes of those actions.
At present, too big to fail banks have a variety of systems emplaced by the government, which protect
them in the event that they run into financial difficulty. For example, in the U.S. the banks creditors

are not being used they disappear and deteriorate. The ability of the infant s brain to change in form
and function is referred to as plasticity, this is important because although Genie was not taught as a
child her brain was still able to adapt and engage to her new environment. Through this we encounter
how Genie s brain was able to change throughout her new life and how the brain has this amazing
ability that allows reorganization and the ability to form new connections. For Genie, these
connections were able to form because she now had the chance to explore her environment, which is
something she was unable to do her entire childhood. In the beginning of the film when Genie was
discovered they examined her brain waves and found that Genie was expressed abnormal wave
patterns. This is referred to as sleep spindles, which is an indication of retardation; this raised the
question of whether or not Genie was impaired at birth or due to isolation. However, after working
with her they found that she was in deed capable of forming new synaptic connections that allowed
her to learn new words and supported the concept of brain

Susan B. Anthony s Contributions
Susan B. Anthony is an influential figure in American History for a multitude of reasons. Her primary
contributions were made through her ability to voice her opinion over the unequal rights for women
and blacks. The thing that makes Susan B. Anthony stand out the most is her power to get women the
equal rights they deserve. Through the years of 1892 1900, she fought for the abolition of slavery and
women s rights. Her life spanned 86 years from birth on February 15, 1820 to death on March 13,
1906 caused by heart failure. Anthony s contributions will be felt forever in American society because
she gave women equal rights as men and assisted in the abolition of slavery. Susan B. Anthony was
born February 15, 1820 to a Quaker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the age of twenty nine, Anthony started to go to conventions and temperance movements and that
is what got her involved in reform movements. Anthony at the same age became the secretary for the
Daughters of Temperance. By being secretary, it helped her public speaking and it gave her the
opportunity to speak about alcohol abuse. This was a big step in Anthony s life because of her fear of
public speaking. In the years following the Civil War, Anthony began to be an important role in anti
slavery movements and temperance movements. Anthony was very active in both of these movements.
(www.newworldencyclopedia.org) In 1851, Anthony was introduced to Elizabeth Cady Stanton by
Amelia Bloomer. This friendship benefited women in so many ways. Together, Elizabeth and Anthony
organized the first women s state temperance society. (http://www.biography.com) In 1853, Anthony
went to her first women s rights convention and started to devote more of her time to increasing
women s rights. Stanton and Anthony traveled throughout the United States giving speeches and
trying to get equal rights and treatments for women. In the years 1853 1860, Anthony campaigned in
New York for the Married Women s Property Bill, which gave women that were married the right to
own property, keep their wages, and have custody rights of their children, which eventually became a
law during this time frame.

Yanek Book Reports
Intro: This book is about a Jewish boy named Yanek. This gives an inside look of what happened to
Jewish people in the 1940s. He had a very hard life in the 6 year time duration he spent in the ghetto

Setting: The book starts off in Krakow, Poland. It takes place in a 6 year time span which started in
1939 and ended in 1945. In those 6 years he went on two death marches and went to eight
concentration camps. Although the story took place in several locations one word describe almost all

Occupational Therapy Personal Statement
OTCAS Personal Statement
There is an anonymous quote I often encounter which states, Find three hobbies you love: one to make
you money, one to keep you in shape, and one to be creative. I believe that people can have many
hobbies and passions in life, but there are few things that constitute what our purpose is. I feel that
when we can combine our passions into a career that also has a positive impact on humanity, we have
found our purpose.
I am not going to tell you that it has always been my dream to become an occupational therapist. For
most of my school years, I did not know what profession I wanted to pursue. I did know, however, that
I desired to work in healthcare because of my personal experience with my family s injuries/diseases,
as well as my interests in how the body functions and heals. For a while, I was adjudicating between
becoming an occupational therapist or a physical therapist because the two professions are quite
similar. After much contemplation, I realized that my high attention to detail, personality, and my
passions for science, art, and the mind made occupational therapy the career I wanted to strive
towards. When I asked myself what my purpose was, I discerned that I did not only want to ... Show

Impact Of The Gold Rush
Gold is the catalyst for numerous events that develop the American economy just before the Civil War.
Mankind appears to have a passionate, enduring, and daresay destined obsession with gold and
mineral wealth. A gold rush is a force of nature that seems to shake up a culture just as much as an
economy. This is evident particularly in early to middle 1800 s America where there is already this
grand ideal that divine providence wills for a massive expansion of American territory. The
introduction of gold into this equation contributes exponentially to what is by this time a borderline
American Revolution in its own right. The American gold rush (or rather the gold rushes) spawn an
enormous migration movement that leads to several lasting communities; many of which will
eventually become states. The subsequent surge in the country s economy stirs political and economic
discussions nationwide, and an American Middle Class continues to emerge in the rapidly changing
antebellum United States. Gold is the facilitator for all of these events (and more) as the American
economy grows just before the Civil War. The earliest noteworthy gold discovery of the U.S. occurs in
1799 at what is today Reed s Gold Mine in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. However, this rush is
quickly overshadowed by the Georgia gold rush of 1829. This rush stimulates a lot more national
interest in the prospecting of gold, and several people from all over the United States flock to the
Southern Appalachians to

Carpeting Process Analysis
Refinishing Your Hardwood Floors? Learn How To Hand Refinish The Steps
If you have carpeting throughout your home that you are looking to rip out so you can refinish the
hardwood, chances are that the steps in your home have carpeting on them too. Steps can be one of the
most frustrating parts of the hardwood refinishing process because so much of it needs to be done by
hand. Follow these tips to learn how to refinish the steps on your own.
Preparation
You ll start by removing the old carpeting on the stairs that was previously nailed or glued down. A
pry bar works great for lifting up each area of carpeting, which will give you enough leverage to rip it
out by hand.
It s important that you remove every single nail or patch of glue left behind on the wood, because it
can potentially ruin your sanding equipment later on. Event he tiny staples will need to be removed
with pliers if there is a sharp end still stuck in the hardwood. Glue residue can be scrubbed away with
a commercial glue removal product and a scrub brush. Dry the steps off with a rag when finished. ...

This is a written assessment of my view on recording an individual pupil s behaviour throughout a
school day. I will be referring to attendance, internal testing, behaviour etc.
We shall be referring to the pupil as James, due to confidentiality.
Personal opinions will be expressed in brackets.
Science class,
James is one of the very first people to arrive. (Indicating his interest). He seemed to be very keen and
enthusiastic about science session. He was clearly enjoying the lesson by participating in class work
and questioning. Science session being one of the most interactive sessions of all helped James to
progress faster and have a great start to his day.
He was enjoying his team work to build the human body. His behaviour could be referred to as that of
an exemplary student. He was certainly encouraging his peers to work harder as he was better and
faster than them (competitive manner).

The Crime Of Money Laundering
1.0 Background of study
Over a long period of time, corruption has been the focal point of every government, media and
academics globally. Through money laundering, proceeds of crime can be disguised. Proceeds of
crime can simply be put as money earned from profit oriented crime. The methods used are many and
highly complicated. Corruption is one of the organised crime which is said to be primarily associated
with the laundering of proceeds through money laundering. Technological tools accord further
chances for individuals to employ money laundering as a process of cleaning up dirty money and
obscure the trail leading back to the underlying crime.
The crime of money laundering has been illustrated by many as the means of support for many crimes
and is a main threat to the economic and social security of societies. These activities have become a
global problem in the second half of the 20th century similar to the fiery increase of drug trade. The
term has been extensively acknowledged and popularly being employed globally.
Often, as it is known that the origins of criminal proceeds were from drug trafficking, many law
enforcers have now expanded their application to offences such as human trafficking, cybercrime,
illegal arms sales and smuggling. Many countries such as Malaysia, United Kingdom, Australia,
United States of America and Switzerland have given due consideration over prevention of money
laundering, especially in relation to corruption.

Dualism In Stephen King
Aside from Shakespeare and Stevenson there are a plethora of authors who are as proficient or
possibly more adept at portraying the theme of a book, play, or poem. One considerable example is
Stephen King. He is an otherwise unusual author. King s books seem to depict theme in a
extraordinary way. His atrocious book IT has a rather nightmarish way of illustrating plot and theme.
The book, though rather monstrous and horrifying, is a great read for young adults. King does an
exceptional job at representing duality in IT. The story follows the lives of seven children as they are
tormented by a infernal entity that feeds off the fears and phobias of its victims to disguise itself while
preying on little kids. The creature, or It predominantly appears in the form of a clown to draw its
preferred prey of young children. All the while each member of the group has encountered the
terrifying life forms manifestation in its various shape shifting disguises; these include a malevolent
clown for Richie, a headless boy for Ben, a fountain of blood for Beverly, a diseased and rotting man
known as a Leper for Eddie, a creepy painting come to life for Stan, Mike s parents burning alive, and
finally an apparition of Georgie for Bill. King s main motive was to insinuate fear in the lives of kids,
in his book IT. Most children, around the age of 10 12, are afraid of something.. King stated in a 2013
interview that he came up with the idea for Pennywise after asking himself what scared

Copper Mining Industry Analysis
Copper mining became extremely popular in 1843 in what is now known as the Copper County. Here
was on the only place in the whole United States of America to get pure, native copper, that was until
the early 1900s. The first documented reports of copper being found in Michigan was in 1667 by
Claude Allouez, a missionary from France. In Allouez s report, the Native Americans in the Lake
Superior area, known as the Chippewa s, really valued the copper nuggets they found there. The
Upper Peninsula was soon to erupt into the center for the mining industry (Molloy, 1999).
When American miners started to migrate to the Copper Country in the 1840s, there were many pieces

In the Copper County, miners were not allowed to form a union until just before 1913. The strike was
about the conditions of the miners and what they had to go through while mining, it was an extremely
dangerous job. They did not get paid much, the labor was intense, and the days were long. The strike
lasted about nine months until the union that formed the strike, was ran out of town. It was considered
a turning point of mining history in the Keweenaw, even though it was not a success (Watson, 2014).
During the strike, something very disastrous and heartbreaking happened in Calumet, Michigan. Most
locals know the story of the Italian Hall Massacre, it is known as a very important part of the mining
strike. It is Christmas Eve, 1913, and many strikers decide to throw a party for their families and
children for the holiday. There are more than five hundred people inside the Italian Hall in Calumet,
which is also home of the Calumet and Hecla mine, one of the biggest mines in the area. Everyone is
dancing and laughing and having and amazing time if all their friends and family, and the strike slips
their minds for a while. Then, all of a sudden, someone screams Fire! Although there was never a fire,
panic erupts in hall, everyone searching for a way out, running towards the only door and staircase.
Everyone barricaded the door on accident, and many tripped and fell. There were so many people
blocking the door that the firemen could not even help there on the main door, they had to go up the
fire escapes and through the roof. There were seventy three people just piled on the floor in front of
the door, dead from being trampled or suffocated, at least sixty of which were children. Many people
were considered suspects, but the truth is, no one knows what exactly happened that grim Christmas
Eve night. All we know is that it was a man who just wanted the strike to be over and done with, even
if he never indented to kill

Apple Iphone Attack
Recently, the FBI has asked Apple to create a backdoor into IPhones, allowing the government and
anyone with access, to bypass security and access the data in an IPhone. The main reason that this has
become such a popular issue is because of the aftermath of the San Bernardino attack. One of the
attackers, Syed Farook, had an IPhone that is believed to have been used to communicate with other
ISIS members. The FBI has been unable to open the phone, and is now asking Apple for a backdoor
into the phone, which Apple promptly declined. If a backdoor is generated for all IPhones, anyone
with the key to unlock the backdoor will have access to the entire world s supply of data on IPhones,

able to use the backdoor in criminal and counterterrorist cases. In this case, Apple winning has a better
outcome than the FBI winning, because Apple winning is a win for personal and national

Research Paper On Mardi Gras
Researching Mardi Gras and everything dealing with it has broadened my horizons. I feel a little
ashamed that I never knew the history of Carnival. The most I knew was that I get a week off of
school so I can go to parades and eat king cake. Everything means something and has a history. The
colors, floats, trinkets, cake, balls, etc. all are important to Mardi Gras. Over the past few weeks, I
have learned a lot about Mardi Gras. I have become a walking textbook. I can spit out almost any little
thing about Mardi Gras. I have become less ignorant about my culture after doing this research paper.
It has become harder to find new resources about Mardi Gras because the information starts to become
repetitive. Finding new facts about Carnival history is hard. Almost every article explains the same
things such as when Mardi Gras started, what it represents, and everything else in between. I tried to
use different types of sources but I mainly used articles from databases and two books. Although it
does not seem like a variety of sources it does not matter because they are credible and most of them
are recent articles about Mardi Gras. One of the books I used was published in 1991. It is dated but not

Karis Cameron Monologue
I regularly follow a significant number of accounts on social media who identify themselves as actors,
but all too often, I don t even know how I discovered them. Invariably, there is a Hallmark connection

Vancouver friends and my Signed, Sealed, Delivered passion, and I am thrilled to be able to share our
recent Q A session. RH: Why did you decide to become an actress? What kind of training have you
had? KC: I ve always really liked to tell stories and to be a part of something so much bigger than just
myself. I get that with acting; being a part of the production of this grand story is really something I

Fortunately, Karis recognizes that a long suffering nature is requisite for ultimate success. She takes
advantage of every opportunity afforded her, and she still manages to live her life to the fullest in spite
of the fact that she is still not a working actor who books roles regularly, but her will is steadfast and

Jacob Research Paper
Today s text describes Jacob s fight with a man.
Jacob wrestled with the man until daybreak.
During the hard fighting, the man struck Jacob s hip, which was put out of joint.
Despite great pain, Jacob was fighting against the man without giving up
At last, the man ardently asked Jacob, Let me go, for the day is breaking. (32:26)
From this scene, we wonder, why didn t Jacob allow the man to go?
Clearly, we are able to know the answer from Jacob s saying.
I will not let you go, unless you bless me. (32:26)
To Jacob, the reason to fight with the man was to receive a blessing.
Why did Jacob need the blessing, even putting his life in danger?
In order to answer the question, we first should look at his life.
Jacob was a born fighter.
Even before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regarding this, the prophet, Hosea said that [Jacob] wept and sought his favor. (Hosea 12:4)
Then, a wonderful thing happened.
The man wrestling with Jacob asked, What is your name? (32:27)
And, Jacob answered, Jacob. (32:27)
Then the man said to Jacob, You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel,
For you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed. (32:28)
Now, we can answer to the question I raised at the beginning of this sermon.
Why Jacob needed a blessing, even putting his life in danger?
In fact, Jacob s past life was to plunder Esau s birthright and blessing.
Jacob was a thief and a bad fighter.
So, in order to face Esau confidently, he urgently needed a true blessing gained through a fair fight.
At that time, God was willing to fight with Jacob to give an opportunity to fight in a right way, to give
a blessing through the new name, Israel.
Through the fight, God made Jacob reconcile with himself.
Through the name, God gave Jacob new personality.
You have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed.
Now, Jacob was ready to meet Esau.
Now, Jacob was ready to go forward.
In light of today s scripture, I want to ask

Church Ministry Essay
The history itself of the decree on the ministry and life of the priests is an extensive one and difficult
to summarize. The possibility of having just a disciplinary decree dealing with practical matters of
ministry and spiritual life was considered, but the conciliar fathers gradually became more aware of
the need to say something in regards to the priests, something comparable to what the Council had
said about the bishops and the laity. That is to say, the decree would have to refer to the doctrine, but
they realized this a bit too late to make major changes. The last date for rejection of De Vita et
Ministerio Sacerdotali was October 19, 1964, there was only one more session of the council
remaining at this time. In a little over a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starting from Christ to the apostles, and from the apostles the bishops, at the request of 124 priests.
However, this was not sufficient and did not satisfy those loyal to other ways of understanding the
priesthood, especially the French school. In distributing the first amendment to the text of the first
draft of Presbyterorum ordinis, just after acceptance of the amended text as the textus recognitus, the
archbishop François Marty summarized the discrepancy of views: As to the specific nature of the
ministry and life of the presbyters. In this case, two conceptions have been expressed which seem to
differ at first sight. One of them insists more on the consecration of the priest worked by the sacrament
of Orders, and on the personal union of the priest with Christ, who is the source of sanctity and
spiritual effectiveness. The other conception, however, insists on the mission of the priest, a mission
which he receives from Christ through the sacrament: that is, the priest, since he becomes an assistant
to the Order of Bishops, acts in the person of Christ for the edification of church. Fact is, both
conceptions bring to light an aspect of great importance in the ministry and life of the presbyters.
Therefore, the commission will be careful to show how both conceptions harmoniously combine and
are in fact completed, so that they go together in the unity of the priestly ministry. Nonconformities

  • 2. How Can You Ensure That You Are Giving Learners The Best... How can you ensure that you are giving learners the best chance to understand a text? Provide a (listening or reading) text and show how you would teach a lesson with this in mind, justifying each of the stage of the lesson. Listening is the ability to identify and understand what others are saying. This involves understanding a speaker s accent or pronunciation, his grammar and his vocabulary, and grasping his meaning (Howatt and Dakin). An able listener is capable of doing these four things together. During the listening students hear different accents and types. When students listen or read they process the information they hear both top down and bottom up. Top down means using our prior knowledge and experiences; we know certain things about certain topics or situations and use that information to understand. Bottom up processing means using the information we have about the sounds, word meanings discourse markers like first, then, and after that to set up our understanding what we read or hear one step at a time. In order to improve students listening comprehension they should use their prior knowledge. In a typical reading lesson there are pre activities, while activities, and post activities. In reading learners can skim a text quickly to get a good idea what it s about, but listeners cannot skim. In listening lesson also has pre , while and post listening tasks. Each of these tasks is very important in order to ensure that the students understand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the film, he talks about taking care of his mother when he was having a conversation with Marion Crane, Norman states to Marion I don t hate her; I hate the illness, meaning he loves her, but he is aware of the mental toll that she has put him through. He was hinting that his mother was not normal or that he wasn t himself. Marion suggested that maybe he should committed her to a mental institution. Norman immediately shut that idea down by stating, If you love someone, you don t do that to them, he fights his mother mentally, but he treats her like his lover. In his mind it was the mental version of her not allowing him to come out of the house and interact with other women that sparked his Dissociative Identity Disorder. She used her son as a substitute lover and her hatred for any women that could take Norman away is what triggered his disorder. • 4. Co-Evolving with Our Microbiome The idea that humans have power over our health has a long history in American popular culture. We tend to believe we are the masters of our own destiny and can solve the problems of our internal workings according to our will, power of positive thinking, upbeat attitude or a fighting spirit however we cannot ignore our living environment and the organisms that co exist among us. As it turns out, we share our bodies with an unimaginably vast array of organisms that seem to play a substantial role in our well being. Both in and on our body, there are 10 bacterial cells for every single human cell. This collection of organisms that inhabit the human body is referred to as the microbiome and accounts for nearly 2% of our total body weight. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... H. pylori thrives in the acidic environment of the stomach and the finding that this bacteria contributed to the condition was remarkable news and led to the standard practice of treating peptic ulcers with antibiotics. As a result, the rate of H. pylori induced ulcers has dropped by more than 50 percent. (Ackerman, 2012) Recently it was discovered that H. pylori has another job besides regulating acid. It plays an important role in signaling our hunger. Our stomach produces two hormones that regulate food intake. Ghrelin (the hunger hormone) tells your brain you need food and Leptin tells your brain your stomach is full. Your ghrelin levels are high when you have not eaten for a while, which is why you are hungry when you wake up in the morning. After you eat breakfast, your ghrelin levels decrease. Studies have shown that H. pylori significantly regulates ghrelin levels and without it, these levels may be unregulated which can lead to increased appetite and excessive caloric intake. Studies have shown that those who have been treated by antibiotics to eliminate H. pylori, gained weight because their ghrelin levels stayed elevated causing them to feel hungry longer therefor increasing their caloric intake. This example illustrates that we may not really understand the consequences of the wide use of antibiotics. Obesity could very well be one of those consequences. We take antibiotics to target the bad bacteria however it affects the good bacteria too. Two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Detrimental Effects Of Sleep Deprivation On Cognitive Introduction Sleep deprivation is a phenomena which has been extensively studied on its own, but the effects of sleep deprivation on cognition and working memory in particular have been an area of interest to a lot of researchers. The research done on this topic has collectively found that sleep deprivation has detrimental affects on cognition. Studies such as the experiment conducted by Joo, Yoon, Koo, Kim, and Hong in 2012 outline how sleep deprivation can result in deficits in cognition. Pros And Cons Of Libertarianism For this essay I shall explain libertarianism in a general sense, observing its aims and ideals for society, what a government s role is in this society and what common views libertarians may share. I will conclude with identifying a plausible form of this political philosophy based on the idealist merits it puts forward to form a society based on personal freedom. Libertarianism in a general sense is the view that every individual has the right to live their life in any which way they may choose, so long as they hold respect for the equal rights of others. A Libertarian government defends every individual s right to life, liberty, and property, observing that all people hold this as a natural born right. Libertarians hold the view that, all individuals relationships should be voluntary; and the main actions that should be restricted and punishable by law are those that involve use of coercion against another or remove or impose on the rights of another in any such way. A Libertarian is one who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state (What is Libertarian? 2013). Media Portrayal Of Violence In The Media The risk of developing aggressive behavior is high among children who were raised in a negative environment such as social and economic factors play a huge role. The primary place a children is in is at home. Poverty has a significant impact on a child s social behavior these children that are raised in poor environments have a higher risk of behavior problems. Impoverished communities have a wide range of people living there not all the people in that neighborhood may have the same parenting styles or teach their child to behave. Children in impoverished neighborhoods can often play with other kids outdoors and since other children may not be raised to behave well they will bring that behavior in their homes and begin to use it. Potential behavior that can arise from other children who do not behave can lead to not respecting others, anger, and violence. The media has been linked to aggressive behavior in children. The outcome of media portrayal of violence can have lasting effects such as children can be begin to feel less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others. Sometimes watching violence can even be enjoyable because of how the media plays it out to be. It may be funny or no consequences or punishment to violent act committed. Studies by Boyd and Heitz have shown that larger banks, (defined as having assets of over $50 billion), have higher scale economies than their smaller counterparts . The mean measure of scale economies in the banking industry is 1.145, whilst the larger banks had a mean of 1.25, implying that they were therefore 9.2% more efficient than the rest of the industry. They hereby estimated that the larger banks economies of scale increased their contribution to national output by 9.2%. These proponents argue that the social benefits derived from these economies of scale are beneficial enough to prevent the stricter reforms and changes being discussed by governments around the world from being implemented. One of the main arguments against banks becoming too big to fail is that a moral hazard problem occurs. Moral hazard is a basic economic concept, whereby one party entering a transaction will take more risky actions if they know they have insurance against the outcomes of those actions. Every new place that Genie discovered was a new world for her, this raised her curiosity and allowed her to want to engage and interact with her new environment. As we know, as infants we are born with almost all the neurons that we will have. In Genie s case, being strapped to a potter chair for most of her life caused her to lose many of those synaptic connections that she was not able to use. This process is referred to as pruning, which simply stated means use it or lose it, when theses connections are not being used they disappear and deteriorate. The ability of the infant s brain to change in form and function is referred to as plasticity, this is important because although Genie was not taught as a child her brain was still able to adapt and engage to her new environment. Through this we encounter how Genie s brain was able to change throughout her new life and how the brain has this amazing ability that allows reorganization and the ability to form new connections. For Genie, these connections were able to form because she now had the chance to explore her environment, which is something she was unable to do her entire childhood. In the beginning of the film when Genie was discovered they examined her brain waves and found that Genie was expressed abnormal wave patterns. This is referred to as sleep spindles, which is an indication of retardation; this raised the question of whether or not Genie was impaired at birth or due to isolation. However, after working with her they found that she was in deed capable of forming new synaptic connections that allowed her to learn new words and supported the concept of brain ... • 26. Impact Of The Gold Rush Gold is the catalyst for numerous events that develop the American economy just before the Civil War. Mankind appears to have a passionate, enduring, and daresay destined obsession with gold and mineral wealth. A gold rush is a force of nature that seems to shake up a culture just as much as an economy. This is evident particularly in early to middle 1800 s America where there is already this grand ideal that divine providence wills for a massive expansion of American territory. The introduction of gold into this equation contributes exponentially to what is by this time a borderline American Revolution in its own right. The American gold rush (or rather the gold rushes) spawn an enormous migration movement that leads to several lasting communities; many of which will eventually become states. The subsequent surge in the country s economy stirs political and economic discussions nationwide, and an American Middle Class continues to emerge in the rapidly changing antebellum United States. Gold is the facilitator for all of these events (and more) as the American economy grows just before the Civil War. The earliest noteworthy gold discovery of the U.S. occurs in 1799 at what is today Reed s Gold Mine in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. However, this rush is quickly overshadowed by the Georgia gold rush of 1829. This rush stimulates a lot more national interest in the prospecting of gold, and several people from all over the United States flock to the Southern Appalachians to ... His atrocious book IT has a rather nightmarish way of illustrating plot and theme. The book, though rather monstrous and horrifying, is a great read for young adults. When American miners started to migrate to the Copper Country in the 1840s, there were many pieces and nuggets of copper that were left behind in the lake and streams by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Copper County, miners were not allowed to form a union until just before 1913. The strike was about the conditions of the miners and what they had to go through while mining, it was an extremely dangerous job. They did not get paid much, the labor was intense, and the days were long. The strike lasted about nine months until the union that formed the strike, was ran out of town. It was considered a turning point of mining history in the Keweenaw, even though it was not a success (Watson, 2014). During the strike, something very disastrous and heartbreaking happened in Calumet, Michigan. Most locals know the story of the Italian Hall Massacre, it is known as a very important part of the mining strike. It is Christmas Eve, 1913, and many strikers decide to throw a party for their families and children for the holiday. There are more than five hundred people inside the Italian Hall in Calumet, which is also home of the Calumet and Hecla mine, one of the biggest mines in the area. Everyone is dancing and laughing and having and amazing time if all their friends and family, and the strike slips their minds for a while. Then, all of a sudden, someone screams Fire! Although there was never a fire, panic erupts in hall, everyone searching for a way out, running towards the only door and staircase. Everyone barricaded the door on accident, and many tripped and fell. There were so many people blocking the door that the firemen could not even help there on the main door, they had to go up the fire escapes and through the roof. There were seventy three people just piled on the floor in front of the door, dead from being trampled or suffocated, at least sixty of which were children. Many people were considered suspects, but the truth is, no one knows what exactly happened that grim Christmas Eve night. All we know is that it was a man who just wanted the strike to be over and done with, even if he never indented to kill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Apple Iphone Attack Recently, the FBI has asked Apple to create a backdoor into IPhones, allowing the government and anyone with access, to bypass security and access the data in an IPhone. The main reason that this has become such a popular issue is because of the aftermath of the San Bernardino attack. One of the attackers, Syed Farook, had an IPhone that is believed to have been used to communicate with other ISIS members. The FBI has been unable to open the phone, and is now asking Apple for a backdoor into the phone, which Apple promptly declined. If a backdoor is generated for all IPhones, anyone with the key to unlock the backdoor will have access to the entire world s supply of data on IPhones, ranging from a middle schooler s IPhone to the CEO of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The future of personal security and encryption lies at stake in this fight, and both sides are unwilling to back down. If Apple wins, then IPhones stay secure, but the IPhones from many criminals will remain locked. If the government wins, they will have access to all the IPhones in the country, but will also be able to use the backdoor in criminal and counterterrorist cases. In this case, Apple winning has a better outcome than the FBI winning, because Apple winning is a win for personal and national ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Research Paper On Mardi Gras Researching Mardi Gras and everything dealing with it has broadened my horizons. I feel a little ashamed that I never knew the history of Carnival. The most I knew was that I get a week off of school so I can go to parades and eat king cake. Everything means something and has a history. The colors, floats, trinkets, cake, balls, etc. all are important to Mardi Gras. Over the past few weeks, I have learned a lot about Mardi Gras. I have become a walking textbook. I can spit out almost any little thing about Mardi Gras. I have become less ignorant about my culture after doing this research paper. It has become harder to find new resources about Mardi Gras because the information starts to become repetitive. Finding new facts about Carnival history is hard. Almost every article explains the same things such as when Mardi Gras started, what it represents, and everything else in between. I tried to use different types of sources but I mainly used articles from databases and two books. Although it does not seem like a variety of sources it does not matter because they are credible and most of them are recent articles about Mardi Gras. One of the books I used was published in 1991. It is dated but not to far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will use a variety of sources so my information can go in depth. • 35. Karis Cameron Monologue I regularly follow a significant number of accounts on social media who identify themselves as actors, but all too often, I don t even know how I discovered them. Invariably, there is a Hallmark connection in some way, and in the cast of Karis Cameron, that is absolutely true. I spotted her through my Vancouver friends and my Signed, Sealed, Delivered passion, and I am thrilled to be able to share our recent Q A session. RH: Why did you decide to become an actress? What kind of training have you had? KC: I ve always really liked to tell stories and to be a part of something so much bigger than just myself. I get that with acting; being a part of the production of this grand story is really something I will never get enough of. I love the process and bringing these characters to life. It really does take a full team to bring these stories to life. As far as training, I m almost always in class ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amidst all the glitz and glamor commonly promoted in the popular media, all too often young people enter the business with visions of fame and an appetite for fortune. In their quests, they frequently relinquish the drive when they realize that being an actor is not as easy as they thought it would be. Fortunately, Karis recognizes that a long suffering nature is requisite for ultimate success. She takes advantage of every opportunity afforded her, and she still manages to live her life to the fullest in spite of the fact that she is still not a working actor who books roles regularly, but her will is steadfast and her outlook eternally optimistic. She is persevering in the pursuance of her passion in the classroom and in each audition sent her way because as they say, she s only one job away from success and/or ... • 36. Jacob Research Paper Today s text describes Jacob s fight with a man. Jacob wrestled with the man until daybreak. During the hard fighting, the man struck Jacob s hip, which was put out of joint. Despite great pain, Jacob was fighting against the man without giving up At last, the man ardently asked Jacob, Let me go, for the day is breaking. (32:26) From this scene, we wonder, why didn t Jacob allow the man to go? Clearly, we are able to know the answer from Jacob s saying. I will not let you go, unless you bless me. (32:26) To Jacob, the reason to fight with the man was to receive a blessing. (Hosea 12:4) Then, a wonderful thing happened. The man wrestling with Jacob asked, What is your name? (32:27) And, Jacob answered, Jacob. (32:27) Then the man said to Jacob, You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, For you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed. (32:28) Now, we can answer to the question I raised at the beginning of this sermon. At that time, God was willing to fight with Jacob to give an opportunity to fight in a right way, to give a blessing through the new name, Israel. Through the fight, God made Jacob reconcile with himself. Through the name, God gave Jacob new personality. You have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed. Now, Jacob was ready to meet Esau. Now, Jacob was ready to go forward. In light of today s scripture, I want to ask ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Church Ministry Essay The history itself of the decree on the ministry and life of the priests is an extensive one and difficult to summarize. The possibility of having just a disciplinary decree dealing with practical matters of ministry and spiritual life was considered, but the conciliar fathers gradually became more aware of the need to say something in regards to the priests, something comparable to what the Council had said about the bishops and the laity. That is to say, the decree would have to refer to the doctrine, but they realized this a bit too late to make major changes. The last date for rejection of De Vita et Ministerio Sacerdotali was October 19, 1964, there was only one more session of the council remaining at this time. In a little over a ... However, this was not sufficient and did not satisfy those loyal to other ways of understanding the priesthood, especially the French school. In distributing the first amendment to the text of the first draft of Presbyterorum ordinis, just after acceptance of the amended text as the textus recognitus, the archbishop François Marty summarized the discrepancy of views: As to the specific nature of the ministry and life of the presbyters. In this case, two conceptions have been expressed which seem to differ at first sight. One of them insists more on the consecration of the priest worked by the sacrament of Orders, and on the personal union of the priest with Christ, who is the source of sanctity and spiritual effectiveness. The other conception, however, insists on the mission of the priest, a mission which he receives from Christ through the sacrament: that is, the priest, since he becomes an assistant to the Order of Bishops, acts in the person of Christ for the edification of church. Fact is, both conceptions bring to light an aspect of great importance in the ministry and life of the presbyters. Therefore, the commission will be careful to show how both conceptions harmoniously combine and are in fact completed, so that they go together in the unity of the priestly ministry. Nonconformities followed with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
