Animal Cruelty Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of animal cruelty is undoubtedly a challenging endeavor that
requires careful consideration and emotional resilience. Tackling such a sensitive and distressing
topic demands a deep understanding of the ethical implications surrounding the mistreatment of
animals. The difficulty lies not only in conducting extensive research to gather relevant
information but also in navigating the emotional toll that comes with delving into the gruesome
realities of animal cruelty.
Addressing the various facets of this issue, including the ethical, legal, and psychological
dimensions, requires a nuanced approach. The writer must strike a delicate balance between
presenting factual information and conveying the emotional impact of such cruelty on both
animals and society. This often involves grappling with disturbing images, heartbreaking stories,
and the challenging task of maintaining objectivity in the face of profound injustice.
Furthermore, crafting a compelling essay on animal cruelty demands a call to action. It's not just
about shedding light on the problem; it's about inspiring change. The writer needs to articulate
solutions, advocate for stronger regulations, and foster a sense of responsibility among readers to
combat this issue.
In conclusion, writing an essay on animal cruelty is a daunting task that requires a blend of
research skills, empathy, and a commitment to driving positive change. Despite the difficulty, it is
a crucial endeavor, shedding light on an issue that demands our attention and collective efforts.

Environmental Impact and Sustainability Issues related to PBDEs
In chapter fourteen of our textbook, Environment: The Science Behind The Stories, it
is made clear that the United States does not use the precautionary principle
approach when it comes to evaluating how toxic a substance is (Withgott Laposata,
2014, p. 382). This lack of precaution has proven to be dangerous when it comes to
chemicals, especially when using polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). PBDEs
are chemically engineered flame retardants used during the manufacturing process of
clothing, bedding, and many other household goods. These flame retardants work by
eliminating the fire s oxygen supply, resulting in less damage to the item and a
decrease in the chance of a larger fire (Hester Harrison, 2013, p. 45). While PBDEs
may have been necessary during a time when there were fewer fire regulations, it is
clear that the negative effects of these flame retardants outweigh the benefits in today
s times.
According to the journal of Environmental Science Technology (2016), the toxicity
of PBDEs was first discovered in Sweden, when a study exposed an unsafe and
increasing level of flame retardants in the breast milk of women. This study showed
that PBDEs were potentially toxic and highly bioaccumulative, meaning that they
accumulate in the body instead of being broken down. PBDEs were identified as
mutagens, as well as possible carcinogens. Because of these findings, PBDEs were
banned in some countries and

Dracula Interpretive Essay
In Bram Stoker s Dracula, we are introduced to the monster that is Dracula.
Throughout his Stoker touches on several themes of Dracula s monstrosity. This
paper will explore Bram Stoker s Dracula under the theory of, The Monster Dwells
at the Gates of Difference The rejection of modernity, sexual expression, and the
xenophobic threat from Old World Europe are all gates of difference that Stoker
touches on.
Dracula dwells at the gates of difference, first at the gates of modernity. Which Stoker
has Dracula reject and overcome the modern world. This is shown early in the
novel, Harker becomes uncomfortable with his lodgings and his host at Castle
Dracula, he notes that unless my senses deceive me, the old centuries had, and
have, powers of their own which mere modernity cannot kill. The turn of the
century was bringing about major changes to English society. Beliefs that were
held with such strength for years were being challenged. Stoker writes Dracula
throughout as a monster who easily avoids and defeats these modern ways. For
example, modernist devotee characters such as Mina and Dr. Seward were focal
points in showing how without knowledge of the Old World they were helpless to
help or even venture logical guesses about how to help Lucy after she was attacked.
It was only until Van Helsing who did have the old knowledge that they were able
to render any aid to her once so ever. Finally, Stoker writes in

and growth go with each other: no country has ever reached a great economy
without a significant population shift into cities. According to United Nations
databases, the proportion of the 2014 world population living in urban areas was
54 per cent, heading for 66 per cent by 2050. Urbanization is necessary to keep up
growth in developing countries, and it yields other benefits as well. But it is not
pain less or always welcomed by policymakers or the general public. Managing
urbanization is an important part of nurturing growth; neglecting cities even in
countries in which the level of urbanization is low can impose heavy costs.
Historically, urban infrastructures have materialized as a response to emergent issues,
natural disasters are just an example of them. In the more distant past, construction
has been a driven by localized issues such as sanitation, flooding or fire. The reaction
has been to engineer systems (under the powers of centralized, state led planning and
public funding) that solve a single problem at a particular time. Little thought has been
Benedict Arnold Traitor Or Traitor
In the Revolutionary War, there were many different influencers that affected the
course of the War. Both the American Colonies and the British had brave and noble
heroes. Yet there was one man who became a traitor and disliked by both sides in
his lifetime. Benedict Arnold was an egotistical, bold man who managed to find
himself without anywhere to run do despise, or perhaps more because of, his actions
and behavior during the Revolution. Benedict Arnold had always been devilish, even
from a young age. As a child he was known to cause trouble and harm. Rumor has it
that some of his earliest amusements included robbing birds nests and sprinkling
broken glass on the path to school where other children would cut their feet. He

When he got back to the colonies General Washington promoted him to the rank of
a brigadier general. Arnold went on to fight in many battles, most of them
becoming a win. His rash courage and impatient energy helped him be remarkably
successful on the battle field, but it also was the cause of severe losses in his
troops. Several officers disapproved of him, but Washington s personal efforts kept
him from becoming resigned. As a brigadier general he fought heroically at the
Battle of Saratoga until his leg was, again, severely wounded. This time the injury
caused a chronic, and severe, limp that he had for the rest of his life. Unable to
continue on field, he was restored to a proper relative rank, where General
Washington placed Arnold in command of a Philadelphia base. Although he
remained bold his whole life, he used his attributes to help contribute to the
Revolution. Despite how supportive he was for the first part of his life, Benedict
Arnold is most famous for betraying the Revolution and the Colonies. Once Arnold
dropped ranks and was forced to stay off the field, he became restless and
aggravated. He had always been called by the life of luxury, and felt as if he
deserved a higher title for all of his efforts in the war. Deciding to turn to the British,
Arnold needed a post from which he could do the most service to their cause. He
requested and received the command of the American
The Cree And The Lakota
Saskatchewan was focused upon in this essay for two reasons. The first being that
the author had lived in that province for the majority of time they have been in
Canada and so is more familiar with the various customs and cultures that exist in the
place. The second reason is that the natives have lived on this land for tens of
thousands of years, hence an incredible amount of diversity exists among the cultures
here . The two cultures focused upon in this essay are the Creeand the Lakota.
THE CREE
The Cree constitute the largest indigenous group in Canada, with over 200,000
members living in Canada alone . Scientists believe that the Cree descended from the
people who crossed the Bering Strait during the last Ice age. Evidence suggests ...

Hence they were sent to the spider. The Spider agreed that he would take them to
the land below but only if they obeyed his instructions. They were to sit in a basket
woven from spider silk, and the spider would lower them there. However, only one
of them was allowed to look out of the basket till they touched the ground, if not
they would get stuck on the great eagle s nest. The couple agreed. They sat in the
basket and started being lowered down with only one of them looking out (notice
the omission of gender here). Soon land was visible, then the river, the lakes and
finally the trees. When the one that was peeping out told the other of the wondrous
sights, the other jumped up to watch and so, they both got stuck on the great eagle s
nest. They were stuck there for many days and were refused help from the caribou
and the lynx. Many days later a bear showed up and agreed to bring them down from
the nest. Once down, the bear guided them and taught them how to live .
In this story, the man in this story is the animus and the woman is the anima. The
Syzygy in this story is not directly represented. However, it can interpreted to be the
voice the couple heard, who is none other than Kisemanito, or the Great Spirit, who is
the creator and God for the Cree. Kisemanito doesn t hold any human attributes
including gender , hence fits perfectly within the category of a Syzygy. This
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
Perhaps one of the most pressing issues of the century, objectification of the
female gender is a world wide phenomena. While sometimes referenced of as a
fading issue, women s rights, or the lack thereof, is still prevalent across many
regions of the planet. Often times denied even the simplest forms of human rights,
women have always been forced to take the least dominant path within society, and
are frequently expected to be weaker than men. However, potentially no example
of female objectification is more apparent than the lives of women today, as well
as various Japanese Geisha in the early 1900 s; specifically in the novel Memoirs
of A Geisha, by Arthur Golden. Set in the early years before World War 1, it was
within the lives of these Geisha that objectification was not only displayed, but was
exemplified. Outrightly told to listen to men, apply cosmetics, and act with
reservation within society, similarities between both old world Geishas and modern
day women are easily correlated. Beginning on their initiation day, Geisha were
taught exactly how to act around men; submissive and dainty. Ordered to tend to the
every want or desire of the opposite sex, Geisha made little difference within her own
realms of existence. This is best demonstrated through Sayuri, a young apprentice
within the Geisha community of Gion. Within mere minutes of arriving at her
assigned living quarters, she is greeted, and succinctly told, Listen here stupid girl.

Tension in Witch s Money Essay
Tension in Witch s Money
In John Collier s Witch s Money, the stranger who suddenly appears in a remote
mountain village in Spain is initially seen by Foiral as an unwelcome madman.
Certainly his surrealist description of the landscape must seem a symptom of insanity
to one unfamiliar with the trends of modern art. Once he offers a nice sum of money
to buy Foiral s house, however, the stranger is treated with a new attitude. He is still
not completely accepted by the community that he has moved into, but he does wield
a new type of power simply because only he can produce cash from paper billets. With
his magic cheques, though, the stranger creates a tension that grows into an
economic struggle between himself and his community. ... Show more content on

This knowledge of cheques that the stranger has over Foiral and the community
increases the tension between them. When Foiral finally receives his money from the
cheque, he is under the impression that all cheques give thirty thousand francs.
Knowing that the stranger has a whole book of cheques, Foiral and his friends
immediately feel jealous of the outsider: he has something that they want. A stranger
a madman who has more than any member of the community, has invaded their town.
Because he has so much and they so little, the villagers feel that it is their right to
take the stranger s magic cheques . . . even if, in the process, they must take his life
as well. Ironically, tragically, their righteous ambition leads to their own destruction.
With the stranger dead, the people of the community help themselves to his
cheques. Money begins to exchange hands as goods are bought and deals are
made. The progress of economic development comes to the village. No one is
afraid to dig up the money that they have saved because as soon as the cheques are
cashed there will be no worries, and the town can continue to prosper. But as every
man meditates on their two of these excellent billets, they begin to feel that they
were too rich to speak to each other (71, 72). Conflict grows between one time
friends as they argue over what is to be bought and sold. Greed has come to town
with the artist and his witch s money.

The War Between India And Pakistan
In the middle of 1971 the war between India and Pakistan became a must for India,
there seemed no miracle to halt the inevitable nor Allah wanted Pakistan to keep
continuing with its nefarious activities, and the entire world leaders and major
powers become active to have their own slice of flash. The intelligence agencies of
USA, USSR, China, India, Pakistan and other countries became highly active,
sensitive to each and every movement in the Indian sub continent. Israel s Mossad
came out highly successful in trapping a few high govt, official of Pakistan s
Defence Ministry, and women who were regular visitors to President s House of
Pakistan in Rawalpindi. The valuable information procured by Mossad were
passed on to India and Gen.Yahya Khan never came to know the moles in his
house and office. In the month of Oct. 1971, Mrs. India Gandhi toured vigorously
to Europe to make her point clear and non aggression policy of India. For the world
to know India was least interested in occupying territories of neighbourhood
countries, as projected by Pakistani rulers and media. She was able to win UK and
France to block any US move in United Nations. The role of USA in India Pakistan
war is not only interesting to note due to full of pitfalls, biased views, superior
pride and an attitude uncalled for. After a long discussion of Mr. L K Jha, then the
Indian ambassador to US, regarding the position of India in case Pakistan does not

Animal Experiments Essay
Animal Experiments Animal experimentation by scientists can be cruel and unjust,
but at the same time it can provide long term benefits for humanity. Animals used in
research and experiments have been going on for 2,000 years and keep is going
strong. It is a widely debated about topic all over the world. Some say it is inhuman
while others say it s for the good of human kind. There are many different reasons
why people perform experiments and why others total disagree with it.
Each year 20 million animals are produce and breed for the only purpose but to be
tested on. Fifty three thousands of animals are used each year in medical and
veterinary schools. The rest is used in basic research. The demand for animals in the

There are numerous tests that animals are put through. Toxicity testing or testing
determining if a substance is poisonous or not. Animals are exposed to chemicals
through inhalation, ingestion, eye contact, and skin contact. They are induced or other
words they were normal until a scientist inject chemicals, microorganisms, or other
substances into them to produce a disease or to create symptoms of a specific
condition. They are put in cages that are covered in their own feces and excrement
in small cramped windowless rooms in a laboratory where they know they are
going to die. They are bred to die and that s their only reason they where born on
this earth so that the scientists can test the effects of drugs and disease. Scientists
actually stand and watch animals die from diseases. They induce hemophilia
(excessive bleeding) in dogs, epilepsy (causes seizures) in mice, glaucoma (eye
disease) in rabbits, and deafness in cats.
There are three main reasons why animals are used in experiments are research on
disease, behavior, and education. Research of how the cells function and how disease
works. What causes the disease? What can prevent those diseases and how to cure
them? Research s test drugs, chemicals, or products to determine safety and

Black Holes By Jean Simon Laplace
Black holes, complex and difficult to understand, have intrigued both scientists and
physicists alike since the eighteenth century. French scientist Pierre Simon Laplace,
born in 1749, was one of the first scientists to argue for the existence of an
unexplainable body that encompasses an endless amount of space . Following
Laplace, John Archibald Wheeler, an American physicist born in 1911, coined the
term black holefor a space entity that is so compact (in other words, has enough
mass in a small enough volume) that its gravitational force is strong enough to
prevent light and all other matter from fleeing its body (What Is a Black Hole?).
Black holes, therefore, are masses that have a gravitational force so great that they

As previously stated, black holes are immense sources of gravity, consisting of a
region of infinitely small volume (How Big Is a Black Hole?). This region is known
as the central singularity of a black hole. Surrounding the central singularity is the
event horizon, an imaginary sphere that indicates the point at which a stationary
black hole s gravitational pull will begin to draw material into its central singularity.
For example, the Schwarzschild radius, the distance between the event horizon and
central singularity, of Earth is approximately the size of a marble, meaning that the
Earth would have to be the size of a marble in order to reach its event horizon, thus
becoming a black hole. On the other hand, black holes are not always immobile
bodies; they also spin around their own axis. Therefore the central singularity of
rotating black holes are not a point but instead a thin ring. Furthermore, the event
horizon will consist of two spheres instead of one. The area between both event
horizons is known as the ergosphere .
Motionless Black Hole Structure2Spinning Black Hole Structure2 Despite the fact
that black holes are be either stationary or in motion, all black holes are categorized
into two groups, stellar mass and supermassive. Stellar mass black holes are
approximately a few times heavier
Building Brand Community on the Harley-Davidson Posse

Recommendations:
1.Harley Davidson should continue to sponsor HOG, and the Posse Rides.
2.More resources should be spent on the Posse Rides to meet the rising expectations
of participants.
3.Dealerships should be more integrated into the Posse Rides.
4.The Posse Rides should not be seen as direct profit centers.
Reasoning:
1.HOG has been phenomenally successful at attracting members and chapters. From
nothing in 1983 it has grown to half a million members in 1,160 chapters. This is the
core of Harley Davidson s market and it is easily reachable through Hog Tales
magazine. This is particularly important for Harley given that its customers are so
varied making it hard to reach them through traditional marketing methods. HOG

Coordination with local TV and radio should be used to raise awareness and
crowds. The dealer network should also be used by the Posse Rides to solve
logistical problems such as the T shirts fiasco. Given that Posse Rides have different
routes, most dealers will be able to participate over time.
4. While the visual promotional effect of the Posse Rides should be exploited as
much as possible, commercializing them should be avoided. Participants are Harley s
best customers and it should take the opportunity to reward them, not exploit them.
These people are not stupid and will soon notice if Harley tries to squeeze out every
last cent from them. The indirect benefits, such as building brand awareness and
loyalty, are much more important than short term sales. If participants want to
shop at every dealer, great, but their direct costs should be kept as low as possible.
Given their wide differences in income, raising prices will simply drive off
working class participants that blow their annual wad on one rally. This would
change the nature of the Posse from an open, inclusive group to a rich, closed one.
Over time, as Posse Rides become a feature of Harley s brand, it would depreciate the
brand.
Posse Rides will also have to maintain their exclusivity if they are to be continually
successful. If everyone can get a Posse T shirt because of merchandizing they will
not be worth having to real Posse Riders. Keeping the number of
Figuring out the Factors that Influence Customers Movie...
The first objective of the research study was to figure out the factos that influence
customers movie decision and their relative importance. From the theoretical
framework, four factors were tested to study how much their influence would be
on customers movie choice. The average value for each factor was computed
based on the item values; which were later used for the paired sample t tests to
check if there are any differences in means between each pair of factors. The result
is presented in the table 27 below. According to the test result, nearly all the pairs
have differences in means between two factors; except for the average value of
factor 1 and factor 2. In more details, the mean value of the average factor 1 is
smaller than both the average factor 3 and factor 4 (3.4 3.9 and 3.4 3.6). Similarly,
the mean value of the average factor 2 is both smaller than the one of average
factor 3 and factor 4 (3.36 3.94 and 3.36 3.6). Moreover, the mean value of average
factor 3 is bigger than the one of average factor 4 (3.9 3.6). Table 34: Paired

Utilizing and Exploiting Intellectual Property Laws
In today s modern business environment, one in which competition is not limited by
national borders and technology allows millions of people access to new products,
the senior management structure of any successful corporation must be adept at
utilizing and exploiting intellectual property laws. Conceiving and conceptualizing a
new idea, and creating a viable item for public consumption from that inspiration, has
always been the hallmark of energetic and efficient companies. With the advent of the
internetand the subsequent interconnectedness of globalization, however, it has
become increasingly important that original ideas, goods, and services are protected
through the exclusive rights granted by the trademark process. Citing the spread of
internet technology and its marked effect on businesspractices, an article in The New
Yorker recently observed that fewer than ten thousand tech industry trademarks were
registered in the United States as of 1980, but in 2011 more than 300,000 of these
trademarks have been obtained (Colapinto, 2011). Savvy corporate executives and
upper managers know that effectively branding a particular product through unique
logos, color schemes, labels, symbols, or any other distinctive iconography is perhaps
the most significant step that upper managementcan take to protect their market share,
and trademark registration provides the first level of protection against unlawful
imitation by competing companies. Various emblems have long been

In the sixteenth century, England was one of the most powerful countries in the
world. England was also in dire need of money at this time. In an effort to alleviate
the country s financial burdens, King Henry VIII decided to seize land owned by the
Catholic Church. Henry then sold the already inhabited land to investors, and its
residents were forced out. These people and their descendants would eventually
become some of the fortune seeking colonists that would settle America during

Although the colony was near water and had a good location for shipping goods, it
was surrounded by a swamp and stagnant water. This allowed disease to run rampant.
Jamestown only lasted until 1700 when its settlers abandoned it, and moved
Williamsburg.
The colonist s primary objective, as mentioned before, was to make money, and
also try and drive out Spanish colonies. None of the colonists concentrated on
survival and focused on their search for prosperity. Because of all the time spent on
looking for gold or the route to China, and their lack of skills, the colonists were not
prepared for the harsh upcoming winter. The results were devastating. During the
winter of 1609 1610 almost ninety percent of the colony was wiped out, and only 50
out of the 500 colonists survived.
The government of the colony consisted of a governor and 12 council members, all
whom were appointed. The government, named the Virginia Council, had no
decision making power at all. Everything was sent over to England, settled there,
and then sent back. This system was outrageously inefficient and often took several
years for anything to be resolved. This absurd and inept council was another reason
the death toll at the colony was so high. They couldn t force people to work on the
colony. Finally, a man by the name of John Smith took control and opened the settler
s eyes. They started

As mentioned in Steve Jobs compelling positioning statement in the introduction, he
made two important statements about the product. They were that the iPad was
between two already highly successful mobile devices, the laptop and the
smartphone, and very importantly that the iPad had competitive advantages over
each. Apple brand followers were instantly excited and could not wait for the
release of the iPad so they could be the first to have it, whether they needed such a
device or not! The iPad was a game changer in the tech world when released in April
of 2010 and some believe it may end the personal computer era such is the strength of
the brand.
Target Audience
The iPad s target audience is not as clear as one would think, it turns out that it is
very broad. The initial thought on the iPad by the media was that it was just a big
iPhone that could not be used for regular phone calls, so who would want
something like that? Apple believed, like for the iPod, that the iPad was for
everyone. They got this perception when a year after the iPod was released many
consumers still believed the device was for techies and celebrities . The task,
therefore, was to use communications to inform world audiences that the iPod (and
now the iPad) was for everyone, not just a select few (Fill, 2009). The fact that many
features and programs on the iPad were inherited
Analysis Of The Tuskegee Experiment
Introduction Medical experiments on human subjects carry a great deal of ethical
dilemma. In the United States, there have been various experiments made on human
subjects that raised the ire of many people in the society. Many of the subjects were
subject to drug experimentation, risky operations and being infected with diseases
just to know how the disease affects the body. One of these experiments is the

Syphilis is a venereal disease that can be contacted and spread by means of sexual
intercourse. An infected pregnant mother can also pass the disease to the unborn
child during pregnancy. The disease is caused by a corkscrew shaped bacterium
called a spirochete, Treponema pallidum. The bacteria cause sores or ulcers to
appear on the skin of the penis, vagina, and mouth. In some occasions, the sore can
appear in the rectum, on the tongue, lips, or breast.
During sexual intercourse, the bacteria is transferred from the sore of the person
and enters the moist membranes of the sexual partner s penis, vagina, mouth, or
rectum. Once the bacteria enter the body, it multiplies at a fast rate. The bacteria
enter the lymph circulation, which carries the bacteria to adjacent lymph glands,
which swells as a response to the infection. During the first stages of the disease,
which is called primary syphilis and lasts for a few weeks, sores and ulcers begin to
develop, particularly in the genital area of the victim. Blood tests during this stage
may not reveal the disease yet, but the bacteria can be scraped from the sores.
Eventually, the sores will heal, and the victim may recover from the disease without
any treatment.
The second stage of the disease is called the secondary syphilis, which begins about
two to six weeks after the sores have healed.

The Documentary The Act Of Killing
The movie documentary The Act of Killing showed the story of Indonesian mass
murderers as movie stars. When the government of Indonesia was overthrown by
the military in 1965, Anwar and his friends were promoted from small time
gangsters to death squad leaders. They helped the army kill millions of alleged
communists and intellectuals in a short period of time. The movie was a mixture of
funny, horrifying, and politically eye opening. I found it funny when the local
community was asked to act in a movie and those who were willing to act as
Communists were really giving their best to act the part. Though the part where some
refused was intriguing. It is as if the issue of the military overtaking and the
communist executions are still very

Benefits Of Pledging To A Sorority Or Fraternity
Most people when they think of college they think of majors, classes, and getting to
meet new people but others look forward to pledging to a sorority or fraternity.
Pledging to a sorority or fraternity means making a life long commitment with people
who then become your said brothers and said sisters, but with pledging comes hazing.
Hazing is humiliating and, in most cases, dangerous initiation rituals, but it is a
typical thing that happens when someone pledges. Although hazing is a tradition and
has always been a part of pledging, it shouldn t be part of the process due to multiple
cases of death and the overall attitude towards it.
Hazing in fraternities and sororities has become a tradition in the United States culture
for decades (Alvarez
Censorship In Alaskan Culture
A culture discussed in class that had interesting difference to American culture was
Alaskan storytelling where the stressed importance was the relationship of the
storyteller to the listener or audience. I imagined Alaskan populations spread out all
over the large state, thus, my amazement that the oral tradition of storytellingwere
used with great significance to pass on information, emphasize morals, and describe
the cultureto new generations.
A difference that was a surprise was that the children listening to these stories in the
Alaskan culture were never allowed to interrupt the storyteller, where most children
in America are more boisterous and do not have the same level of respect to always
sit quietly. However, a similarity between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

every child would be able to participate and impact the stories being created. These
types of games also build relationships with others in a fun way so that a child may
learn to socialize. Socializing within these easy games may be especially helpful if a

Stowe And The Abolitionist Movement
The influence of Stowe s family with the different forms of the abolitionist
movements and her own contact of fugitives from slavery. She knew, heard of and
read about; are the two main sources of her hatred for the institution of slavery
(89). She also had placed herself in the mindset of a mother who have lost her
child from cholera or separation, the emotional bond is the same for whites and
black (88). She had been exposed just from what was going on around her and what
people around her was one of the people who had an influence on Stowe was her
Father Lyman Beecher. Beecher was a Boston preacher and his views on the
abolitionist movement, he sees slaveryas morally wrong and advocated for the
education of free slaves. But he is on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Birney is a friend and follower of Weld (93). He came from a slave owning family
and had slaves of his own, but soon freed them after seeing the wickedness of it
all(93). Even though he followed Weld, Stowe saw him as more moderate in his
actions compared to Weld(93). He at first supported the idea of colonization; for
the freed slaves to be taken back to Africa, but soon he came to the thought that
would be an ineffective way to deal with the situation (93). Birney had some
interactions with the Beecher family while his time in the North when he met
Harriet and later spoke to Catharine for recommendations for teachers, for a
Seminary that he is associated with (93). Not liking that he was living in a slave
state he moved Ohio and started up a newspaper with Bailey, but even there
publishing their thought on the issue of slavery, many people did not like what
they were printing out (93 94). That in July an anti abolitionists mob had come and
destroyed the printing press also out, targeting him and anyone else associated
with him (94). The Beecher s them selves keep note of what Birney s newspaper
were printed; even Henry published articles in response to what the people were
doing after the attack to Birney s warehouse (94). That what the people were doing
was a violation of Birney s right to freedom of the press (94). Even Harriet knew
what was going on and had written to her husband, with everything that is going on is
causing more people to become abolitionists, even though parts of the letter had satire
and praise to Henry s article that he published (94). As time moved on Henry took up
arms when even he had to go into town; which Harriet thought that Birney would do
the same to protect his warehouse. That almost got to the point that she would have
gotten arm herself to help out, from the letters that she had written to her husband

Acute Asthma
According to Valkonen et al. (2015), there is a co existing relationship between
asthma and bacterial infection. Antibiotics are a group of drugs that focus on a
various range of infections entailing fungal, viral, bacterial and even protozoan
infections. More so, the use of antibiotics drugs in the management of asthmais still
disputed. Most physicians have found there selves use antibiotics in the management
of asthma in the pediatric population as viral upper respiratory tract infections are
closely associated with asthma exacerbations in children (Kloepfer et al., 2014).
National and international guidelines of practice suggest that antibiotics should not
be used in the treatment of chronic asthma or acute asthma exacerbations, but can...

A Few Good Men
As defined by the dictionary, honor is a high respect that is earned through deeds
and reputation. But, what is honor, and how does one receive it? Honor is like
many things that are hard to put into words. Along with that, honor can be totally
different, depending on your perspective. In the play, A Few Good Men, there is a
central theme based around honor, who is doing right and who is doing wrong. The
definitions of honor accepted by each person are so outstandingly conflicting that the
play analyzes what honor is and at what cost is honor worth obtaining. To the
lawyers, honor is a punch line. To the marines at Gitmo it is a necessity to survive. To
the commanding officer, Colonel Jessup, it is authorization for the strong to... Show

The fact of the play is a weak young man was killed to ensure a code and to instill in
him honor. Yet, somewhere, there is a disconnect between real honor, and that
honor demonstrated by Jessup. Jessup has the honor of a bully. He helps his
friends, and sticks it to his enemies. Meanwhile, real honor, as one of the accused
soldier s notes at the end of the film, is defending those who are too weak to defend
themselves. It is to behave admirably and justly, not simply to follow one s orders,
no matter what their cost. That Santiago s death, while tragic, probably saved lives.
Jessup believes that, if one link is weak, the whole chain is weak, and that it is his
responsibility to make it stronger. Jessup s sense of honor to the Country is doing
whatever is needed, at all costs. Jessup argues that while he might be grotesque he is
necessary to defend the nation. He sees no other way to defend the nation except to
force every man into a defender of it. To him, there is giving code REDs or there is
watching the nation fall apart. But these two options are the same thing. He believes
the nation is indefensible without ordering this ruthlessness against his own troops,
yet our values oppose code REDs. Jessup is a true patriot in his eyes. For years, he
has selflessly served his country and probably seen many murders committed on the
battlefield. It is therefore understandable that he would want to make his marines
Inequality In The Cherry Orchard
The erosion of social hierarchy causing a dawn of class issue and inequality
amongst different classes of society has played a huge role in Chekhov s The
Cherry Orchard. The abolition of Russian serfdom has caused Russian society into a
time of flux and confusion. Due to this, it gave the ambitious serfs who were
previously pitted in the lower class, a chance to become wealthy and move up in
social class. Thus, this allowed for the rise of ambitious and talented in trade and
industry, allowing them to gain primary roles in this new capitalist society.

is mirrored in Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard. This rise in power for one allows for

The liberation allows for the opportunistic middle class who prioritizes these new
values and thus, are on the precursor of success, evoking change, taking fate into
their own hands and controlling the fate of those around them. Although Trofimov
does not take action to make changes, he is able to illustrate and set the grounds
and rules of success and the how to adapt in this time of flux and change. Trofimov
states that Mankind marches forward, perfecting its strength. Everything that is
attainable for us now will one day be near and clear, but we must work we must
help with will all our force those we seek for truth. At present only a few men work
in Russia. The vast majority of the educated people that I know seek after nothing,
do nothing and are as incapable of work. Trofimov is talking about the aristocrats
who are educated but do things with it and are born into power but do nothing with
that power. Thus, explaining one of the of pillars of capitalism which is practicality,
and thus, Trofimov suggests life should not be stagnant and humans must be
pressured to work harder and be motivated to succeed. Therefore, mirroring the lack
of pressure on Russian society which leads to a fall in social and economic progress.

Winged Victory Of Samothrace Analysis
The Winged Victory of Samothrace is the best known sculpture of a goddess and
personification of the victory. Her role is told conveying a victory rather than
giving a victory as soon as possible (Sacks). She has fascinated people around the
world with her elegant and dynamic existence. One of the masterpieces of Greek
sculpture, the Winged Victory of Samothracepossess a lot of intriguing points which
can be seen through the brief information, subject matter, sculpture in the Hellenistic
period, speculation of the age and author, and the reasons for lacking of her some
body parts.

The Winged Victory also strongly possesses these characteristics of the sculptures in
the Hellenistic period. There is an important reason for their changes. Because Athens
was defeated in the Peloponnesian war (404 B.C.), people started to lose confidence
and motivation for activity of public welfare and social community. Nevertheless, the
Greeks were still interested in creating innovative artworks. Instead of their deep and
strong patriotism and devotion in the past, the sculpture s subject became more
personal (Sacks). They realized that they could express and create sculptures of the
human and divine body by both, static image and in motion. Their next step was
creating more realistic portraits which showed the human condition than ideal
circumstances, so the sculptures in this period mainly referred portraitures of living
people to create artworks. In mythological subjects, male figures were more
fascinating and were created in the previous period, but this thought was changed by
an interest in the female figures with the cloth, sometimes nude. Marble carving
became the most important sculpture discipline at that time, before metal casting
(Budin). The movement of the Hellenistic period can be confirmed by the Winged
Victory of Samothrace which is strongly influenced and reflected by the

The number got to 5000 000 when it fully mobilized. However, they could not arm

Comparison Of Solar Declares And The Solar Cycle
A problem that may affect you in the future are solar flares and the solar cycle.
Solar flares and sunspots can interrupt radio frequencies, transmissions, and
everything electronic. This could cause prodigious problems and send the world
into anarchy. Solar flares are high energy explosions that radiate through space.
They are sometimes called CME s, which stands for coronal mass ejection. Solar
flares are measured by the maximum flux of their X rays. The scale consists of
grade A, B, C, M, X flares. A is the weakest level and X is the strongest. This scale
is similar to the Richter scale for measuring earthquakes. The most recent solar flare
that was considered X rated occurred in 2011, according to (Science Daily.)
A sunspot is a result of a solar flare. Sunspots occur when there is a magnetic
disturbance on the surface of the sun, which causes a cooler temperature of the gases
then the ones around it. A solar flare is an explosion of plasma on the surface of the
sun. Both sunspots and solar flares cause electrical surges ... Show more content on

Since solar flares interrupt electrical lines and towers, you can buy an off the grid
generator to supply your building with power. Investing in surge protectors can
help protect your appliances power boards from being fried. Another way to protect
major electricity and communication lines is to make them more material based and
not as vulnerable. NASA has built a large solar shield to protect their power grids
from solar activity. These function as mirrors and are repositioned as the CME travels
towards Earth.
To conclude, solar flares are a threat to the existence of technology on earth. They
could cause vast problems on Earth, however there are things we can do to protect
and prevent against these solar flares. Solar flares are no need to worry too much
about, as the odds of them hitting Earth are very

Erikson s Life Span Theory
Going along with this, Erikson s Life Span Theory presents a lot of ideas that I
agree with when it comes to raising children. Erikson believes that there are eight
stages where an individual will face a crisis. The crisis infants will face is trust or
mistrust of their caregiver. I believe this goes back to nurture, because if you show
your child that you are there for them they should develop trust in you rather than
mistrust. The crisis they face during toddlerhood is autonomy or shame and doubt.
This stage is where they begin to develop a sense of self and want to start doing
things more on their own. When beginning to raise my infant, I hope they display
personality similarities to fearless, energetic children. The description of... Show more

So I believe I will certain restrictions when it comes to their media use at this age.
According to our books, a good parent for preschooler needs to display affection,
nurturance, guidance and discipline, and interaction with the child. In order to
actually be a good parent, co parenting must be effective. I want to be involved in
my child s life, and during their preschool years is of extreme importance to
remember they are watching your every mood, so remaining a positive influence is
detrimental.
During pre teens years, I believe that parenting becomes even more difficult. For
instance, during this period your child is most likely going through changes and
trying to figure out who they are. With this in mind, I feel like it is important to
keep an open communication line open with your child especially during this age
so they feel comfortable enough to come and discuss worries and problems they
may be facing. Media use starts becoming extremely important during this time, so
I would feel the need to set up certain regulations and make sure they are enforced. I
would not allow my child to have a smart phone during this time period either. I
had to wait until I was thirteen, and I think this is the perfect age. I do not think I
would mind if they had a Facebook and Instagram account at this age. However, I
would make it a requirement that I was able to have access to their accounts if I felt
the need to check it out.
Finally, once your child reaches adolescents the
The Physics of Piano
One of the most common musical instruments in many homes is the piano; and most
people have the opportunity for even a few lessons in their youth. However, despite
the simplicity of its lines and keys (88 keys), 2 3 pedals on the modern piano, and
either upright (vertical) or grand style (horizontal), the physics of the pianoare both
interesting and complex. The modern piano is a descendent of the harpsichord,
which used a plucking technique much like that of plucking the strings of a harp or
lute. Bartolomeo Crisotofori, an Italian craftsman, substituted felt hammers in place
of the plucking mechanism, making the instrument capable of graduations of tone
and timber. He called his new instrument the Gravicembalo col piano e forte (a
harpsichord with louds and softs). This was later shortened to the piano and with
critiques from Baroque composers like Bach, a number of improvements were
made to sound quality and tonality eventually emerging as the preferred keyboard
instrument for Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. Over the course of centuries to
different piano types have emerged. The grand piano, from 5 6 to 8 or 9 in length
horizontal to the upright piano, more suitable for the home, which also exists in
differing sizes, 3 5; in height (Parakilas). The mechanism of a piano consists of
pressing on a key (either black or white) on the keyboard causing a felt covered
hammer to strike steel strings that are various lengths and tensions. The hammers
rebound; allowing the
Analyzing the Fiscal Budget of the City of Ukiah and...
Introduction
This paper will analyse the 2013/14 Fiscal budgets the City of Ukiah and California
City. I will attempt to examine the similarities and differences of both these cites
revenue and expenditure line items in their budgets. The cities are similar in that they
generate revenue from many of the same resources and they have similar
expenditures in their annual fiscal budget. However, the cities budgets strategies are
different because both these cities demographics, social, economic, political platform,
and historical characteristics guide both cities elected official s decisions during the
budget process.
History
California City was incorporated on December 8, 1965 (City of California, 2013).
Before the City was incorporated, it was transformed from a vast area of natural
desert and farmland open space, into a new kind of living environment. In 1776, the
first explorers in the City of California were Paiute Indians under leadership of Father
Francisco Grarces. During this time, the Conquistadores are believed to have hired
Paiute Indians to help conduct mining operations in the territory.
At the end of the century, sheep farming began at the Conklin Ranch, and today, this
ranch is located in the central portion of the City. Later, in the 1900s, the city was
ineffective in its attempt to manufacture cotton and grow alfalfa. In 1958, private
land development activities begun when a group of developers started purchasing
land in the eastern portion of the city. By the

Adaptations of classical works, arrangements of well known melodies, and newly
composed music are the three basic types of music that is heard in The Birth of the
Nation. Adaptations of Classical Works involve large action and dramatic scenes in
most cases, but, Mass a passage in the Birth of the Nation that was attributed to
Mozart that was used for the ending and also during Lincoln s assassination. But most

the famous song As Time Goes By is the theme of the movie and shows up
prominently as source music. It communicates the love of the characters Rick and Isla.
3) The music for Gone with the Wind is the paradigm of the Classic Hollywood film
score, and the music for Citizen Kane represents, like the film as a whole, a
departure. Describe the basic characteristics of the Classic Hollywood film score
using Gone with the Wind and other films from this period (1933 43) for examples.
Then discuss the new qualities found in the music for Citizen Kane. (20 points)
There are many characteristics that contribute to the Classic Hollywood film score.
Gone With The Wind serves as a paradigm, which means a distinct pattern of model
of the classic Hollywood film score because it possess the qualities and characteristics
of the film score throughout the story. First being that most often they employ well
known melodies such as Dixie and them famous Tara theme which is one of the most
distinctive themes in the story. Also, another characteristic is that the film
The Theory Of The Hatch Act
The article presented by Bowman and West (2009) provides a glimpse into the
policies and processes that govern political activities of civil servants...and protect
the public from partisan administration of law (p. 52). As I reflect on the history of
the Hatch Act, I argue the justification for the legislation not only seems relevant, but
also may serve as a critical safeguard in our era of growing political division. The
study introduces the ethics triangle and the three theories derived from the model for
structuring a sound assessment of the Hatch Act: result based ethics, rule based
ethics, and virtue based ethics. Nevertheless, the beliefs and values that define an
individual will not simply be trumped by altruistic intentions. Often one must be
reminded of the intent behind their appointment and the associated responsibilities to
guide their actions. A sentiment echoed by Jackson in the article by Bearfield
(2009). Political divide affects all factions of government, and is exacerbated by the
growing loyalty to partisan politicsthat hinders the legislative process.
Result Based Ethics
There should be a clear division between politics and public administration.
Administrators must have the freedom to focus solely on the well being of their
constituents. However, managers are often subjected to following the political views
of the officials who appoint them or suffer termination. The intended outcome is to
find the perfect balance among the three approaches to
Social Class And Middle Class Living In American Cities
In...
Societies were separated by classes, with the upper, middle, and working classes
living in different neighborhoods. This mostly occurred in growing cities. The
boundaries between neighborhoods were quite definite and can still be seen in many
American cities today. Urban society during the industrial era in the late 1800s
differed throughout the different classes. The upper class and middle class lived
well, but conditions for the working class and poor were often abysmal.
The wealthiest families established fashionable districts in the heart of a city in the
last half of the 1800s. Men typically owned or managed large businesses. Those who
had enough money could create homes in different styles such as a feudal castle, an
English manor house, a French chateau, a Tuscan villa, or a Persian pavilion. As
homes grew bigger, wealthy women had more responsibility. They had to manage the
increasing number of servants, such as cooks, maids, butlers, coachmen, nannies, and
chauffeurs. The wealthy women also spent a fair share of money on social activities
and events. Women almost never worked. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The middle class consisted of doctors, lawyers, engineers, managers, social workers,
architects, and teachers. Many of those in the middle class moved away from the
central city to avoid crime and pollution. Middle class families could afford their
own homes and better quality clothing. Most families also had at least one live in
servant. This gave an advantage to women to pursue activities outside the home.
Women s clubs became popular as they involved social, educational, charitable, and
reform activities. Not many women worked, usually because they wanted to build

The Lovesong Of J Alfred Prufrock And Preludes
The portrayal of alienation and existential nihilism inherent in modern life pervades
T.S Eliot s poems, therefore, directly resonating with Jeanette Winterson s
perspective of the modernist writer. By exploring the isolation of men and the
futility of life in a modernised society through The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock
(1915) and Preludes (1915), T.S Eliot questions the uncertainty of the Modernistic
lifestyle. Both these poems which are derived from T.S Eliot s historical and cultural
context in Post war Europe, present aloofness and nihilismas manifestations of the
superficiality and pretensions of the modern urban environment. T.S Eliot s poetry
has transformed the world of modernist poetry and remains valued as contemporary
society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem, Prufrock believes that he has endured a monotonous life and
constantly expresses his discontent and restlessness. Prufrock emphasises on his
discontent of what he perceived as the emptiness and meaningless of modernistic
life. During the WW1 era where society was saturated by disillusionment and
discontent, life was seen as unpromising and meaningless. This directly correlates
to the attitude of the poem, as Prufrock constantly relays the desolateness of his
life. He asserts his overall boredom and perceives life as futile when he states I
have measured my life with coffee spoons . Through T.S Eliot s use of metaphor,
Eliot refers to the mundane aspects of Prufrock s life as the most significant
moments of his life, which confronts responders with the mendacity of their lives
and reflects Eliot s perspective. Here, Eliot s nihilistic perspective of life directly
relates to Jeanette Winterson s critical perspective, stating that he was such a
sensitive soul that he was easily overwhelmed by impressions, by situations, by
events, by people...he suffered continually. Winterson implicates that Eliot was a
highly sensitive individual as such the experiences he faced personally and those
that others faced deeply affect him, therefore accounting for his nihilistic view of
life and humanity itself. Furthermore, T.S Eliot utilises repetition through, For I
have known them all already, known them all to reinforce Prufrock s realisation of
the meaningless life he leads. The repetition of known them all , infers that Prufrock
s life is absent of intrinsic value and completely worthless as he has no more to offer.
Prufrock surrenders to the superficial, barren aspects of life and society, perceiving
human existence as futile when he states he Shall wear the bottoms of my trousers

This method would aid the hotel in saving hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. A
technique known as Use occasion positioning strategy can be used in order for
travelers, tourists, and vacationers to view a hotel stay based on events and times that
caused them to be at the location. Customers will be drawn to the hotel and will
definitely spend a night or two; the latter would benefit Amber Inn Suites hotel.
Recommendation
The mission of the hotel is to cater to a professional clientele who is likely to
increase the revenues of Amber Inn. These kinds of patrons do not worry about
price since most of the times they are covered by the Company they work for and
they tend to have a prolonged stay. The necessities of those customers are more
regular than the individuals that are on a vacation trip; thus, there is no difficulty to
find out what do to. For instance, internet services would suffice those on a business
trip whereas those on a leisure trip would worry about entertainment such as live
music. Some researchers suggested that, the publicity is unnecessary in determining
which hotel to choose. Internet can be a primary factor, as a sales element such as
hotels.com. I advise excluding or decreasing ad for almost 4.4 million, lowering the
Immigration Laws In The Late 1800s
Immigration law have the aliens pursuing fault dreams of becoming a U.S citizen.
The United States began to get big waves of immigrants in the late 1800 s and in the
late 1900 s. Immigrants came to the land of opportunities to begin a new and better
life. The immigration laws began with the Page act of 1875, that was when the
United Statesrestricted immigrants from Asia. Next was the Chinese Exclusion act of
1882, the act stated the prohibition of all immigrants of Chinese laborers. With this
act, more and more immigrationlaws came into play. In the early 1900 s the congress
created the U.S border patrol within the Immigration Service. (cis.org) In 1952 the
United states passed the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, the act prohibited
immigrants to come to the United states because the population was getting out of
control. In 1996, congress passed the illegal immigration reform and immigrants

those illegal aliens who hoped to become green card holders through marriage,

the United states began to question the idea of giving immigrants visas. 4 of the

included failures at visa processing, internal enforcement, and information sharing.
One of the main arguments was should we punish all immigrants looking for a

done different was do a bigger background check and every once in while they

Working While Attending College
Incoming freshmen experience the difficult decision of whether or not they would
prefer to maintain a part time job while attending college. For some students it may
be a necessity, while for others, simply a desire. As an academic advisor, it is my job
to assist the students in their growth and development by establishing meaningful
educational plans which are compatible with their life goals. The studentcan either
decide to manage working during school, or can solely focus on academics.
Beginning collegecan be quite overwhelming, even without having a part time job.
College freshman students who are in college must consider academic, social, and
psychological effects of working, in addition to whether or not it will interfere with
their educational goals.
During the decision making process, students must be aware of the academic effects
that arise when working a part time job and attending classes throughout each week.
A job can provide benefits, extra income, and students with the opportunity to learn
professional skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, and good

It is significant that students have a sense of stability between working and attending
college classes. To some, having a job creates a meaningful work experience that can
positively reflect on having better academic achievement and success. For others, it
causes stress and anxiety, because they often neglect the person whom they should be
most concerned, themselves. Also, it is commonly seen that students feel pressured
about paying off college funds, which shifts their focus towards working rather than
their grades. Students need to be aware of their emotional standpoint, which means
taking time to be organized and in good mental

Civility From A Teacher s Stand Point And Play With...
Civility is manners. Doing simple behaviors like not chewing with one s mouth
open while eating or holding doors open for others can be considered as simple
acts of civility. In the two essays What is Civility? by P.M. Forni and Play with
Your Food, Just Don t Text by Sara Rimer, they discuss civility. In Forni s essay, he
discusses civility from a teacher s stand point, and Rimer focuses on technology
and how it leads to a lack of civility in a lot of homes worldwide. Although they
have two different stand points, they both focus on the similar aspect of civility
being significant. Civility is important because it allows Americans to get along
with each other by showing simple actions of courtesy, having manners, and being
polite. One individual who believes civility is very significant is P. M. Forni, who
wrote the essay, What is Civility? to validate his opinion. As a teacher, Forni believes
when teachers choose not to teach their students basic civility components, they are
failing and that his students should be kind people when it comes to other peoples
feelings. Also, he believes teaching his students civility is very important and only a
positive outcome for them. He first gives each of his students the opportunity during
a workshop, to state what they believe civility is and some gave answers like care,
consideration, justice, tolerance, etiquette, and tact (Forni 455). He states that doing
even the simplest things like saying please and thank you , and

magic, talking animals, a witch, dwarfs and a struggle between a good and a bad,
as well as the fairy tales often include the wicked witch; typically, they are evil

character. Also, the witch on the Snow White tale tried to kill her to stay the most
beautiful women on Earth. She is not different from the witch on the LWW. She tries
to capture and destroy the four kids to beat Aslan and stay as the queen of Narnia

The happy end covers each person s desires and needs. In many fairy tales such as
Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, the Beauty and the Beast and Snow White each of them

and Christmas comes back to the Narnia Land. Furthermore, an element; the
circumstances escape from injustice and poverty by enchantment. Transform allows a
character to face psychological and economic changes. In the Beauty and the Beast,
after the Beast wins the Beauty s heart his appearance changes, He gets rid of the
witch s spell. Changing circumstances are not in the fairy tales only, but they are
transmitted to the fantasy. We can see the kids become grown up in the Narnia land
then after they left the Wardrobe they return as kids. The mythology is an
explanation of the natural phenomena. In Norse mythology, the Gods control the
natural. Thor has controlled the thunder. Also, Balder has controlled the Light and
the natural beauty. The witch in the LWW had placed a spell on the land, so

he is able to perform effectively in individual communication. However, in case of
mass audience, he is unable to perform accordingly. The reason behind performing
weak in front of a mass audience is his nervousness. In this context, he is able to
manage in hiding his nervousness while delivering speech. Apart from that,
communicationstyle is not enough to create strong impact over the listeners. The
individual should also have a prompt communication skill for attracting the audience
towards the viewpoint. In case of Tim Cook, he is not that active with his physical
gesture while addressing a mass audience (Schriver, 2012).
As opined by (Hawkins Fillion, 2012), communication style of Tim Cook can be
more effective by considering some activities. The activities such as improving
presentation and body language while communicating. Apart from that, a prompt
decision should be delivered with sufficient energy. Rate of speech of Cook is very
low, which probably prevents him from presenting his own statement. On the other
hand, Arnold (2014) opposed that appearance of Cook is very formal, which is not
feasible with the agenda of Steve Jobs. Jobs use to maintain his signature turtleneck

Evidence-Based Treatment of Hot Flashes Related to
Cancer...
Hot flashes are one of the many side effects of cancer treatment. A hot flash is
defined as a subjective sensation of heat that is associated with objective signs of
cutaneous vasodilation and a subsequent drop in core temperature (Kaplan, Mahon,
Cope, Keating, Hill Jacobson, 2011). Another description of a hot flash is a sudden
sensation of intense warmth that begins in the chest region and rises to the neck
and face (Loprinzi, Barton Rhodes, 2001). Hot flashes are difficult to measure
because they are a subjective experience. Electronic monitoring devices have been
used to assess skin temperature and objectively measure hot flashes (Carpenter,
2005). Hot flashes cause discomfort and can affect a patient s quality of life,
especially when associated with night sweats, sleep disruption, and mood swings
(Loprinzi, Barton Rhodes, 2001). There are certain types of cancertreatments that
cause hot flashes in patients. Cancer treatments that target estrogenand testosterone
production cause more incidences of hot flashes than other cancer treatments
(Kaplan et al., 2011). The side effects of these types of cancer therapies include
hormone deprivation symptoms, one of which can be hot flashes (Kaplan et al.,
2011). These treatments are used for breast cancerin women and prostate cancer in
men (Kaplan et al., 2011). Premenopausal women who undergo treatment for cancer
may also experience hot flashes. This is because about 80% of premenopausal
women who receive
Water Fluoridation
Water fluoridation has been happening in America for many decades. It has
generally been seen as a good thing as it is purported to fight tooth decay. The
Cochrane Collaboration, which is a highly respected group of researchers and
doctors who have an excellent reputation for rigorous analysis and assessments of
health policy have recently come out with a report that may belie what has been
assumed for decades about water fluoridation. They found shockingly few high
quality scientific papers on the efficacy or effectiveness of water fluoridation in
preventing cavities. This has come as a shock to many in the medical and health
field who had assumed it had to be proven since we ve been doing it to our water for
so many decades.

Although there are others data included in the experiment, this report will only

specific age of students is classify in to 3 groups: under 22, 22 to 26 and above 26.
All the students are currently enrolling in Professor Hutlett Abdin s Biology classes,
so the participants are not random students. Because the students are in an science
class, most of them have an idea of SI metric system, which was acquired in high
school or work for the widely use of this systems outside America and in the
scientists community. Therefore the result of the all student will not be too far from
the actual 10 cm. However the age of participants will have an impact on their
overall estimation. The young students estimation will not as accurate as the old
students , because they have less experiences and exposer to the real SI system in
their life. Hypothesis: the older the group the closer their average results will be to
the actual 10 cm.
Methods: the data are gathered from 3 classes of Biology, and there are total 71
students. There are 49 students under 22, 13 students from 22 to 26 and 9 students
over the age of 26. Each student is instructed to estimated 10 cm in a line in their lab

Severe Economic breakdown will cause an inability for the government to facilitate
humanitarian needs for the populace. However, as the civilian death toll continues to
climb and the humanitarian situation devolves, some observers assert that the
political costs of the Saudi led coalition s military campaign are becoming too high
(The World Bank, 2016). Yemen will continue to become a further impoverished state
and inadvertently ostracize themselves from the region due to an inability to provide
stability within the country.
In October of 2016, Yemen ships fired missiles at naval ships off the coast of
Yemen. In October 2016, Houthi Saleh forces reportedly launched anti ship
missiles at U.S. Navy vessels on patrol off the coast of Yemen. While no U.S.
warship was damaged, a similar attack earlier in October damaged a U.S. transport
ship leased by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) (The World Bank, 2016). In
retaliation U.S. Naval ships fired missiles against Houthi Saleh radar installations.
Given the tension building between Yemen and the United States, if attacks continue
and the U.S./Yemen relationship begins to become anymore hostile, the U.S can
provide a stronger naval presence within the Bab al Mandab region. Once a stronger
U.S. Naval presence is emplaced, this will cause even more kinetic activity between
the two nations as well as developing a hindrance to imports into Yemen. Yemen

  • 2. Environmental Impact And Sustainability Issues Related For... Environmental Impact and Sustainability Issues related to PBDEs In chapter fourteen of our textbook, Environment: The Science Behind The Stories, it is made clear that the United States does not use the precautionary principle approach when it comes to evaluating how toxic a substance is (Withgott Laposata, 2014, p. 382). This lack of precaution has proven to be dangerous when it comes to chemicals, especially when using polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). PBDEs are chemically engineered flame retardants used during the manufacturing process of clothing, bedding, and many other household goods. These flame retardants work by eliminating the fire s oxygen supply, resulting in less damage to the item and a decrease in the chance of a larger fire (Hester Harrison, 2013, p. 45). While PBDEs may have been necessary during a time when there were fewer fire regulations, it is clear that the negative effects of these flame retardants outweigh the benefits in today s times. According to the journal of Environmental Science Technology (2016), the toxicity of PBDEs was first discovered in Sweden, when a study exposed an unsafe and increasing level of flame retardants in the breast milk of women. This study showed that PBDEs were potentially toxic and highly bioaccumulative, meaning that they accumulate in the body instead of being broken down. PBDEs were identified as mutagens, as well as possible carcinogens. Because of these findings, PBDEs were banned in some countries and
  • 3. Bram Stoker s Dracula Bryant Hargrave 7/25/2016 Eng 2305 Dracula Interpretive Essay In Bram Stoker s Dracula, we are introduced to the monster that is Dracula. Throughout his Stoker touches on several themes of Dracula s monstrosity. This paper will explore Bram Stoker s Dracula under the theory of, The Monster Dwells at the Gates of Difference The rejection of modernity, sexual expression, and the xenophobic threat from Old World Europe are all gates of difference that Stoker touches on. Dracula dwells at the gates of difference, first at the gates of modernity. Which Stoker has Dracula reject and overcome the modern world. This is shown early in the novel, Harker becomes uncomfortable with his lodgings and his host at Castle Dracula, he notes that unless my senses deceive me, the old centuries had, and have, powers of their own which mere modernity cannot kill. The turn of the century was bringing about major changes to English society. Beliefs that were held with such strength for years were being challenged. Stoker writes Dracula throughout as a monster who easily avoids and defeats these modern ways. For example, modernist devotee characters such as Mina and Dr. Seward were focal points in showing how without knowledge of the Old World they were helpless to help or even venture logical guesses about how to help Lucy after she was attacked. It was only until Van Helsing who did have the old knowledge that they were able to render any aid to her once so ever. Finally, Stoker writes in

According to United Nations databases, the proportion of the 2014 world population living in urban areas was 54 per cent, heading for 66 per cent by 2050. Urbanization is necessary to keep up growth in developing countries, and it yields other benefits as well. But it is not pain less or always welcomed by policymakers or the general public. Managing urbanization is an important part of nurturing growth; neglecting cities even in countries in which the level of urbanization is low can impose heavy costs. Historically, urban infrastructures have materialized as a response to emergent issues, natural disasters are just an example of them. In the more distant past, construction has been a driven by localized issues such as sanitation, flooding or fire. The reaction has been to engineer systems (under the powers of centralized, state led planning and public funding) that solve a single problem at a particular time. Little thought has been
  • 5. Benedict Arnold Traitor Or Traitor In the Revolutionary War, there were many different influencers that affected the course of the War. Both the American Colonies and the British had brave and noble heroes. Yet there was one man who became a traitor and disliked by both sides in his lifetime. Benedict Arnold was an egotistical, bold man who managed to find himself without anywhere to run do despise, or perhaps more because of, his actions and behavior during the Revolution. Benedict Arnold had always been devilish, even from a young age. As a child he was known to cause trouble and harm. Rumor has it that some of his earliest amusements included robbing birds nests and sprinkling broken glass on the path to school where other children would cut their feet. He remained... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he got back to the colonies General Washington promoted him to the rank of a brigadier general. Arnold went on to fight in many battles, most of them becoming a win. His rash courage and impatient energy helped him be remarkably successful on the battle field, but it also was the cause of severe losses in his troops. Several officers disapproved of him, but Washington s personal efforts kept him from becoming resigned. As a brigadier general he fought heroically at the Battle of Saratoga until his leg was, again, severely wounded. This time the injury caused a chronic, and severe, limp that he had for the rest of his life. Unable to continue on field, he was restored to a proper relative rank, where General Washington placed Arnold in command of a Philadelphia base. Although he remained bold his whole life, he used his attributes to help contribute to the Revolution. Despite how supportive he was for the first part of his life, Benedict Arnold is most famous for betraying the Revolution and the Colonies. Once Arnold dropped ranks and was forced to stay off the field, he became restless and aggravated. He had always been called by the life of luxury, and felt as if he deserved a higher title for all of his efforts in the war. Deciding to turn to the British, Arnold needed a post from which he could do the most service to their cause. He requested and received the command of the American

The first being that the author had lived in that province for the majority of time they have been in Canada and so is more familiar with the various customs and cultures that exist in the place. They sat in the basket and started being lowered down with only one of them looking out (notice the omission of gender here). Soon land was visible, then the river, the lakes and finally the trees. When the one that was peeping out told the other of the wondrous sights, the other jumped up to watch and so, they both got stuck on the great eagle s nest. Kisemanito doesn t hold any human attributes including gender , hence fits perfectly within the category of a Syzygy. This
  • 7. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden Perhaps one of the most pressing issues of the century, objectification of the female gender is a world wide phenomena. While sometimes referenced of as a fading issue, women s rights, or the lack thereof, is still prevalent across many regions of the planet. Often times denied even the simplest forms of human rights, women have always been forced to take the least dominant path within society, and are frequently expected to be weaker than men. However, potentially no example of female objectification is more apparent than the lives of women today, as well as various Japanese Geisha in the early 1900 s; specifically in the novel Memoirs of A Geisha, by Arthur Golden. Set in the early years before World War 1, it was within the lives of these Geisha that objectification was not only displayed, but was exemplified. Outrightly told to listen to men, apply cosmetics, and act with reservation within society, similarities between both old world Geishas and modern day women are easily correlated. Beginning on their initiation day, Geisha were taught exactly how to act around men; submissive and dainty. Ordered to tend to the every want or desire of the opposite sex, Geisha made little difference within her own realms of existence. This is best demonstrated through Sayuri, a young apprentice within the Geisha community of Gion. Within mere minutes of arriving at her assigned living quarters, she is greeted, and succinctly told, Listen here stupid girl. Keep your eyes down...men

Tension in Witch s Money Essay Tension in Witch s Money In John Collier s Witch s Money, the stranger who suddenly appears in a remote mountain village in Spain is initially seen by Foiral as an unwelcome madman. Certainly his surrealist description of the landscape must seem a symptom of insanity to one unfamiliar with the trends of modern art. Once he offers a nice sum of money to buy Foiral s house, however, the stranger is treated with a new attitude. He is still not completely accepted by the community that he has moved into, but he does wield a new type of power simply because only he can produce cash from paper billets. A stranger a madman who has more than any member of the community, has invaded their town. Because he has so much and they so little, the villagers feel that it is their right to take the stranger s magic cheques . . . even if, in the process, they must take his life as well. Ironically, tragically, their righteous ambition leads to their own destruction. With the stranger dead, the people of the community help themselves to his cheques. Money begins to exchange hands as goods are bought and deals are made. The progress of economic development comes to the village. No one is afraid to dig up the money that they have saved because as soon as the cheques are cashed there will be no worries, and the town can continue to prosper. But as every man meditates on their two of these excellent billets, they begin to feel that they were too rich to speak to each other (71, 72). Conflict grows between one time friends as they argue over what is to be bought and sold. Greed has come to town with the artist and his witch s money. Only one

French scientist Pierre Simon Laplace, born in 1749, was one of the first scientists to argue for the existence of an unexplainable body that encompasses an endless amount of space . Following Laplace, John Archibald Wheeler, an American physicist born in 1911, coined the term black holefor a space entity that is so compact (in other words, has enough mass in a small enough volume) that its gravitational force is strong enough to prevent light and all other matter from fleeing its body (What Is a Black Hole?). As previously stated, black holes are immense sources of gravity, consisting of a region of infinitely small volume (How Big Is a Black Hole?). This region is known as the central singularity of a black hole. Surrounding the central singularity is the event horizon, an imaginary sphere that indicates the point at which a stationary black hole s gravitational pull will begin to draw material into its central singularity. For example, the Schwarzschild radius, the distance between the event horizon and central singularity, of Earth is approximately the size of a marble, meaning that the Earth would have to be the size of a marble in order to reach its event horizon, thus becoming a black hole. On the other hand, black holes are not always immobile bodies; they also spin around their own axis. Therefore the central singularity of rotating black holes are not a point but instead a thin ring. Furthermore, the event horizon will consist of two spheres instead of one. The area between both event horizons is known as the ergosphere . The indirect benefits, such as building brand awareness and loyalty, are much more important than short term sales. If participants want to shop at every dealer, great, but their direct costs should be kept as low as possible. Given their wide differences in income, raising prices will simply drive off working class participants that blow their annual wad on one rally. This would change the nature of the Posse from an open, inclusive group to a rich, closed one. Over time, as Posse Rides become a feature of Harley s brand, it would depreciate the brand. The first objective of the research study was to figure out the factos that influence customers movie decision and their relative importance. From the theoretical framework, four factors were tested to study how much their influence would be on customers movie choice. The average value for each factor was computed based on the item values; which were later used for the paired sample t tests to check if there are any differences in means between each pair of factors. The result is presented in the table 27 below. According to the test result, nearly all the pairs have differences in means between two factors; except for the average value of factor 1 and factor 2. In more details, the mean value of the average factor 1 is smaller than both the average factor 3 and factor 4 (3.4 3.9 and 3.4 3.6). Similarly, the mean value of the average factor 2 is both smaller than the one of average factor 3 and factor 4 (3.36 3.94 and 3.36 3.6). Utilizing and Exploiting Intellectual Property Laws In today s modern business environment, one in which competition is not limited by national borders and technology allows millions of people access to new products, the senior management structure of any successful corporation must be adept at utilizing and exploiting intellectual property laws. Conceiving and conceptualizing a new idea, and creating a viable item for public consumption from that inspiration, has always been the hallmark of energetic and efficient companies. With the advent of the internetand the subsequent interconnectedness of globalization, however, it has become increasingly important that original ideas, goods, and services are protected through the exclusive rights granted by the trademark process. Citing the spread of internet technology and its marked effect on businesspractices, an article in The New Yorker recently observed that fewer than ten thousand tech industry trademarks were registered in the United States as of 1980, but in 2011 more than 300,000 of these trademarks have been obtained (Colapinto, 2011). Savvy corporate executives and upper managers know that effectively branding a particular product through unique logos, color schemes, labels, symbols, or any other distinctive iconography is perhaps the most significant step that upper managementcan take to protect their market share, and trademark registration provides the first level of protection against unlawful imitation by competing companies. An infected pregnant mother can also pass the disease to the unborn child during pregnancy. The disease is caused by a corkscrew shaped bacterium called a spirochete, Treponema pallidum. The bacteria cause sores or ulcers to appear on the skin of the penis, vagina, and mouth. In some occasions, the sore can appear in the rectum, on the tongue, lips, or breast. During sexual intercourse, the bacteria is transferred from the sore of the person and enters the moist membranes of the sexual partner s penis, vagina, mouth, or rectum. Once the bacteria enter the body, it multiplies at a fast rate. The bacteria enter the lymph circulation, which carries the bacteria to adjacent lymph glands, which swells as a response to the infection. During the first stages of the disease, which is called primary syphilis and lasts for a few weeks, sores and ulcers begin to develop, particularly in the genital area of the victim. Blood tests during this stage may not reveal the disease yet, but the bacteria can be scraped from the sores. Eventually, the sores will heal, and the victim may recover from the disease without any treatment. The second stage of the disease is called the secondary syphilis, which begins about two to six weeks after the sores have healed.

Honor is like many things that are hard to put into words. Along with that, honor can be totally different, depending on your perspective. In the play, A Few Good Men, there is a central theme based around honor, who is doing right and who is doing wrong. The definitions of honor accepted by each person are so outstandingly conflicting that the play analyzes what honor is and at what cost is honor worth obtaining. To the lawyers, honor is a punch line. To the marines at Gitmo it is a necessity to survive. To the commanding officer, Colonel Jessup, it is authorization for the strong to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact of the play is a weak young man was killed to ensure a code and to instill in him honor. Yet, somewhere, there is a disconnect between real honor, and that honor demonstrated by Jessup. Jessup has the honor of a bully. He helps his friends, and sticks it to his enemies. Meanwhile, real honor, as one of the accused soldier s notes at the end of the film, is defending those who are too weak to defend themselves. It is to behave admirably and justly, not simply to follow one s orders, no matter what their cost. That Santiago s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. Jessup believes that, if one link is weak, the whole chain is weak, and that it is his responsibility to make it stronger. Jessup s sense of honor to the Country is doing whatever is needed, at all costs. Jessup argues that while he might be grotesque he is necessary to defend the nation. He sees no other way to defend the nation except to force every man into a defender of it. To him, there is giving code REDs or there is watching the nation fall apart. But these two options are the same thing. He believes the nation is indefensible without ordering this ruthlessness against his own troops, yet our values oppose code REDs. Jessup is a true patriot in his eyes. For years, he has selflessly served his country and probably seen many murders committed on the battlefield. It is therefore understandable that he would want to make his marines

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Winged Victory also strongly possesses these characteristics of the sculptures in the Hellenistic period. There is an important reason for their changes. Because Athens was defeated in the Peloponnesian war (404 B.C.), people started to lose confidence and motivation for activity of public welfare and social community. Nevertheless, the Greeks were still interested in creating innovative artworks. Instead of their deep and strong patriotism and devotion in the past, the sculpture s subject became more personal (Sacks). They realized that they could express and create sculptures of the human and divine body by both, static image and in motion. Their next step was creating more realistic portraits which showed the human condition than ideal circumstances, so the sculptures in this period mainly referred portraitures of living people to create artworks. In mythological subjects, male figures were more fascinating and were created in the previous period, but this thought was changed by an interest in the female figures with the cloth, sometimes nude. Marble carving became the most important sculpture discipline at that time, before metal casting (Budin). The movement of the Hellenistic period can be confirmed by the Winged Victory of Samothrace which is strongly influenced and reflected by the

Erikson believes that there are eight stages where an individual will face a crisis. The crisis infants will face is trust or mistrust of their caregiver. I believe this goes back to nurture, because if you show your child that you are there for them they should develop trust in you rather than mistrust. The crisis they face during toddlerhood is autonomy or shame and doubt. This stage is where they begin to develop a sense of self and want to start doing things more on their own. I want to be involved in my child s life, and during their preschool years is of extreme importance to remember they are watching your every mood, so remaining a positive influence is detrimental. During pre teens years, I believe that parenting becomes even more difficult. For instance, during this period your child is most likely going through changes and trying to figure out who they are. With this in mind, I feel like it is important to keep an open communication line open with your child especially during this age so they feel comfortable enough to come and discuss worries and problems they may be facing. Media use starts becoming extremely important during this time, so I would feel the need to set up certain regulations and make sure they are enforced. I would not allow my child to have a smart phone during this time period either. I had to wait until I was thirteen, and I think this is the perfect age. However, despite the simplicity of its lines and keys (88 keys), 2 3 pedals on the modern piano, and either upright (vertical) or grand style (horizontal), the physics of the pianoare both interesting and complex. The modern piano is a descendent of the harpsichord, which used a plucking technique much like that of plucking the strings of a harp or lute. Bartolomeo Crisotofori, an Italian craftsman, substituted felt hammers in place of the plucking mechanism, making the instrument capable of graduations of tone and timber. He called his new instrument the Gravicembalo col piano e forte (a harpsichord with louds and softs). This was later shortened to the piano and with critiques from Baroque composers like Bach, a number of improvements were made to sound quality and tonality eventually emerging as the preferred keyboard instrument for Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. Over the course of centuries to different piano types have emerged. The grand piano, from 5 6 to 8 or 9 in length horizontal to the upright piano, more suitable for the home, which also exists in differing sizes, 3 5; in height (Parakilas). The mechanism of a piano consists of pressing on a key (either black or white) on the keyboard causing a felt covered hammer to strike steel strings that are various lengths and tensions. The cities are similar in that they generate revenue from many of the same resources and they have similar expenditures in their annual fiscal budget. However, the cities budgets strategies are different because both these cities demographics, social, economic, political platform, and historical characteristics guide both cities elected official s decisions during the budget process. History California City was incorporated on December 8, 1965 (City of California, 2013). Before the City was incorporated, it was transformed from a vast area of natural desert and farmland open space, into a new kind of living environment. In 1776, the first explorers in the City of California were Paiute Indians under leadership of Father Francisco Grarces. During this time, the Conquistadores are believed to have hired Paiute Indians to help conduct mining operations in the territory. At the end of the century, sheep farming began at the Conklin Ranch, and today, this ranch is located in the central portion of the City. Later, in the 1900s, the city was ineffective in its attempt to manufacture cotton and grow alfalfa. As I reflect on the history of the Hatch Act, I argue the justification for the legislation not only seems relevant, but also may serve as a critical safeguard in our era of growing political division. The study introduces the ethics triangle and the three theories derived from the model for structuring a sound assessment of the Hatch Act: result based ethics, rule based ethics, and virtue based ethics. Nevertheless, the beliefs and values that define an individual will not simply be trumped by altruistic intentions. Often one must be reminded of the intent behind their appointment and the associated responsibilities to guide their actions. A sentiment echoed by Jackson in the article by Bearfield (2009). Political divide affects all factions of government, and is exacerbated by the growing loyalty to partisan politicsthat hinders the legislative process. This mostly occurred in growing cities. The boundaries between neighborhoods were quite definite and can still be seen in many American cities today. Urban society during the industrial era in the late 1800s differed throughout the different classes. The upper class and middle class lived well, but conditions for the working class and poor were often abysmal. The wealthiest families established fashionable districts in the heart of a city in the last half of the 1800s. Men typically owned or managed large businesses. Those who had enough money could create homes in different styles such as a feudal castle, an English manor house, a French chateau, a Tuscan villa, or a Persian pavilion. As homes grew bigger, wealthy women had more responsibility. They had to manage the increasing number of servants, such as cooks, maids, butlers, coachmen, nannies, and chauffeurs. By exploring the isolation of men and the futility of life in a modernised society through The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock (1915) and Preludes (1915), T.S Eliot questions the uncertainty of the Modernistic lifestyle. In the poem, Prufrock believes that he has endured a monotonous life and constantly expresses his discontent and restlessness. Prufrock emphasises on his discontent of what he perceived as the emptiness and meaningless of modernistic life. During the WW1 era where society was saturated by disillusionment and discontent, life was seen as unpromising and meaningless. This directly correlates to the attitude of the poem, as Prufrock constantly relays the desolateness of his life. He asserts his overall boredom and perceives life as futile when he states I have measured my life with coffee spoons . Through T.S Eliot s use of metaphor, Eliot refers to the mundane aspects of Prufrock s life as the most significant moments of his life, which confronts responders with the mendacity of their lives and reflects Eliot s perspective. Here, Eliot s nihilistic perspective of life directly relates to Jeanette Winterson s critical perspective, stating that he was such a sensitive soul that he was easily overwhelmed by impressions, by situations, by events, by people...he suffered continually. Winterson implicates that Eliot was a highly sensitive individual as such the experiences he faced personally and those that others faced deeply affect him, therefore accounting for his nihilistic view of life and humanity itself. Furthermore, T.S Eliot utilises repetition through, For I have known them all already, known them all to reinforce Prufrock s realisation of the meaningless life he leads. The repetition of known them all , infers that Prufrock s life is absent of intrinsic value and completely worthless as he has no more to offer. Prufrock surrenders to the superficial, barren aspects of life and society, perceiving human existence as futile when he states he Shall wear the bottoms of my trousers

Forni and Play with Your Food, Just Don t Text by Sara Rimer, they discuss civility. Although they have two different stand points, they both focus on the similar aspect of civility being significant. Civility is important because it allows Americans to get along with each other by showing simple actions of courtesy, having manners, and being polite. One individual who believes civility is very significant is P. M. Forni, who wrote the essay, What is Civility? to validate his opinion. As a teacher, Forni believes when teachers choose not to teach their students basic civility components, they are failing and that his students should be kind people when it comes to other peoples feelings. Also, he believes teaching his students civility is very important and only a positive outcome for them. He first gives each of his students the opportunity during a workshop, to state what they believe civility is and some gave answers like care, consideration, justice, tolerance, etiquette, and tact (Forni 455). • 54. Evidence-Based Treatment of Hot Flashes Related to Cancer... Hot flashes are one of the many side effects of cancer treatment. A hot flash is defined as a subjective sensation of heat that is associated with objective signs of cutaneous vasodilation and a subsequent drop in core temperature (Kaplan, Mahon, Cope, Keating, Hill Jacobson, 2011). Another description of a hot flash is a sudden sensation of intense warmth that begins in the chest region and rises to the neck and face (Loprinzi, Barton Rhodes, 2001). Hot flashes are difficult to measure because they are a subjective experience. Electronic monitoring devices have been used to assess skin temperature and objectively measure hot flashes (Carpenter, 2005). Hot flashes cause discomfort and can affect a patient s quality of life, especially when associated with night sweats, sleep disruption, and mood swings (Loprinzi, Barton Rhodes, 2001). There are certain types of cancertreatments that cause hot flashes in patients. Cancer treatments that target estrogenand testosterone production cause more incidences of hot flashes than other cancer treatments (Kaplan et al., 2011). The side effects of these types of cancer therapies include hormone deprivation symptoms, one of which can be hot flashes (Kaplan et al., 2011). These treatments are used for breast cancerin women and prostate cancer in men (Kaplan et al., 2011). Premenopausal women who undergo treatment for cancer may also experience hot flashes. However, as the civilian death toll continues to climb and the humanitarian situation devolves, some observers assert that the political costs of the Saudi led coalition s military campaign are becoming too high (The World Bank, 2016). Yemen will continue to become a further impoverished state and inadvertently ostracize themselves from the region due to an inability to provide stability within the country. In October of 2016, Yemen ships fired missiles at naval ships off the coast of Yemen. In October 2016, Houthi Saleh forces reportedly launched anti ship missiles at U.S. Navy vessels on patrol off the coast of Yemen. While no U.S. warship was damaged, a similar attack earlier in October damaged a U.S. transport ship leased by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) (The World Bank, 2016). In retaliation U.S. Naval ships fired missiles against Houthi Saleh radar installations. Given the tension building between Yemen and the United States, if attacks continue and the U.S./Yemen relationship begins to become anymore hostile, the U.S can provide a stronger naval presence within the Bab al Mandab region. Once a stronger U.S. Naval presence is emplaced, this will cause even more kinetic activity between the two nations as well as developing a hindrance to imports into Yemen. Yemen desperately needs
