Essay on Globalization and Human Trafficking
Trafficking in human beings is now the fastest growing business of organized crime. Men, women and
children are trafficked within their own countries and across international borders. More than one
person is smuggled across a border every minute which is the equivalent to ten jumbo jets every single
day. And the trade earns twice as much as the Coca Cola brand. (STOP THE TRAFFIK 2014)
According to estimates, more than 700,000 people are trafficked every year for the purposes of sexual
exploitation and forced labour. They are transported across borders and sold into modern day slavery.
Over the past decade, trafficking in human beings has reached epidemic proportions. No country is
immune. Clawson (2009) discusses how the search for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although human trafficking is the fastest growing process by which a person is enslaved, it is also the
fastest growing international crime and one of the largest growing incomes for organised crime. It is
estimated that at least 12.3 million people are victims of forced labour worldwide. Of these 2.4 million
are as a result of human trafficking. Consequently it 1.2 million children are trafficked every year.
(STOP THE TRAFFIK 2014) Six hundred thousand to eight hundred thousand men, women and
children are trafficked across international borders each year. Approximately eighty percent are
women and children and up to half of them are minors. Predominantly the vast majority of trafficked
people come from the poorest countries and the poorest strata of the national people. Human
trafficking is the second largest source of illegal income, being surpassed by drugs trafficking. Some
trafficking groups have been reported to be switching their cargo from drugs to human beings, in a
search of high profits at a lower risk. (STOP THE TRAFFIK 2014)
Trafficking affects every continent and most countries. Every country is affected by human trafficking
whether they are an origin country in which people are trafficked from, a transit country where people
are trafficked through or a destination where people are trafficked to. (Masika 2007)
There are three constituent elements of human trafficking. Firstly the act, such as recruitment,

An Informative Essay On Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras is a Christian holiday, which was brought by the French when they colonized a part of the
United States of America. The first time that Mardi Grass was celebrated in America, was on March 3,
1699 (History, 2016) in what is today known as Louisiana, later in this carnival would be moved to
New Orleans. Since the carnival was moved out of New Orleans, every year is celebrated between
February and March; it all depends when is going to be Easter. I chose Mardi Gras, because it was an
opportunity to search more about this carnival, particularly in New Orleans. This carnival is celebrated
around the world, but New Orleans has always stood up for its parade and French quarter, where
people enjoy the parade, people can dance in the marvellous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Mardi Gras, because so abounding corporations or people have already booked theirs with years in

are the few reasons why I chose Mardi Gras. I will connect in the holiday of Mardi Gras with the
Carnival in Mazatlan, due the fact that the Carnival in Mazatlan is celebrated almost at the same time
of Mardi Gras. The Carnival in Mazatlan also, takes into consideration Easter and Ash Wednesday. I
will connect out the holiday by asking them to investigate how Mardi Gras is celebrated in other
countries. The activity of production consists of in pairs, creating six sentences about the activities
they both will execute in Mardi Gras, and also to choose the clothes they will wear in Mardi Gras for
this activity. I chose this activity because besides of practicing the structure of will , as a teacher, I
wanted them to feel alike in the parade and to connect with this celebration. And what better way to do

Through what appears to be normal family bonding, there s a whole other set up the mother had in

her knowing. The mother would also get her boyfriends involved so they d get to like the daughter.
This enabled the mom to insist that she d given more money from each new boyfriend. What the mom

Henri Matisse s Woman With The Hat
When defining the use of art it has many meanings. Although, my definition of art is when something
captures your imagination, provoking an intentional feeling in you. Woman with the Hat or La Femme
au chapeau (page 725) is a painting by a French artist Henri Matisse, completed in the year of 1905.
Oil on canvas painting, it s height is 80.56 cm high and 59.69 cm wide. Matisse believed that color
could play a primary role in conveying meaning and focused his efforts on developing this notion. In
this painting Matisse portrayed his wife, Amelie Parayre, it was first shown at the Salon d Automne,
Paris. Amelie s pose for the portrait is very original, her face has a sad expression. It s obvious why
Matisse named the painting Women with the Hat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amelie s face, clothes, hat, and the background consists of colorful patches and blotches that
somehow produces a contrast and makes the painting look spontaneous. This painting is shocking to
me because the use of non naturalistic colors and loose brushwork contributes an unfinished look. It is
arranged by creating an energetic tense effect. Moreover, the elements of art in Women with the Hat
are line, shape, space, color, texture, and tone. The lines of the painting are natural and soft. As well as
the shapes, the lines are curved and organic. The shapes are very circular, their rounded nature focuses
on the humanity and softness of a woman. The surroundings of Mitasse s painting are light, therefore
the space is positive. The colors are bright and vibrant reds and greens and different types of blues.
Amelie s nose shines with a yellow dot Pinks and greens are found in the background of the painting.
The bright colors are kept in balance with the black outlines of Amelie and her clothing. The texture of
this whole painting shows the rough brush strokes. Also, the patches of color on the background
shows the different strokes and texture used which gives the painting a sense of

The Industrial Revolution Of The Nineteenth Century
In the eighteenth and nineteenth century there was the Industrial Revolution which resulted in society
basing their work and life more on factories and production instead of on agriculture . Alongside
industrialisation came capitalism which had the aim of creating profit; urbanism which consisted of
mass amounts of people moving from rural to urban areas; and liberal democracy which emphasised
the citizenship rights of each person and how they could make decisions on how to change their
country rather than having to follow the rule of a monarch which loosely ties in with micro theories.
Lee and Newby (1983) noted that there was widespread agreement among observers and
commentators at this time that Northern Europe and North America were passing through the most
profound transformation of society in the history of mankind in the early nineteenth century . Along
with these developments which affected the way people worked was the Enlightenment which was a
time period in which people chose scientific and objective ways of understanding the world rather
than blind faith in religion and superstition .Through this new grasp and use of reason and rationality,
sociology was clearly bound to develop in some way as people were becoming more educated and
their minds were being opened to vast new possibilities of what they could achieve.
Sociological imagination aims to understand the historical significance and the life of an individual
person together as one element with C. Wright

Social Technical Theory in Knowledge Management
May 20, 2010
Henry David Thoreau once said, True friendship can afford true knowledge. It does not depend on
darkness and ignorance . (Lewis 2006) If we look at friendship as an organization, and relationships
within, you will find that Thoreau s statement is relevant to knowledge management. Information
sharing between divisions, branches, and individuals is critical to the success of all. Additionally, John
Adams has stated, The preservation of the means of knowledge among the lowest ranks is of more
importance to the public than all the property of rich men in the country . (Lewis 2006) This directly
supports Thoreau s concept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Levinson, 2007) The position of knowledge management traffic cop is key to the rate at which an
organization is able to learn. A single repository for the assembly and deployment of tools and
applications is critical to the success of a KM program. Levinson also warns that KM is not just about
a web portal, collaborative data base, or other electronic tools. It s about Social Network Analysis
(SNA) how does knowledge thread its way through an organization, and does everyone speak the
same language. Social Network Analysis is a diagnostic method for collecting and analyzing data
about the patterns of relationships among people in groups. Applied to knowledge management, SNA
can identify patterns of interaction in an enterprise, including its properties, such as the average
number of links between people in an organization, the number and qualities of subgroups,
information bottlenecks and knowledge brokers. SNA provides a view into the network of
relationships that gives knowledge managers leverage to: Improve the flow of knowledge and
information; Acknowledge the thought leaders and key information brokers (and bottlenecks); Target
opportunities where increased knowledge flow will have the most impact on your bottom line. The
method includes a simple survey that requests that people in an organization indicate their rating of the

The Importance Of War In All Quiet On The Western Front
Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, depicts the true horror and brutality of
war, and has shown people all over the world what it can actually means to fight for one s country.
Although it may seem as though going to war is brave and honorable, that is not always the case.
Through descriptive and graphic scenes, Remarque depicts the futility of war and unveils the terrors
experienced by soldiers fighting on the Western Front during World War I. The theme of the
meaninglessness of war is found throughout Remarque s novel, accompanied by the feelings of
hopelessness of the soldiers when they realize it. The novel conveys that after fighting for so long, a
soldier begins to realize that the killing is futile and results only in unnecessary deaths. The deaths on
the Western Front were often in vain, because no territory was every really gained or lost during the
front s battles. The doubt of the soldiers and their purpose can be seen in Kropp s words, when he
ponders the morality of war: We are here to protect our fatherland. And the French are over there to
protect their fatherland. Now who s in the right? (page 203). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Paul, the main character, often reflects on how war can damage a person both mentally and physically.
He understands that even if the soldiers were to return to their former lives, they would not know what
to do with themselves, because they have changed and no longer identify with civilians. This can be
seen as Paul reflects on his life while he is in the hospital: I am young. I am twenty years old; yet I
know nothing of life but despair, deaths, fear [...] I see how peoples are set against one another, and in
silence, unknowingly, foolishly, obediently, innocently slay one another (page 263). This quote also
expands on the theme mentioned above Paul sees how people are purposely set against one another
and told to

Genetic Engineering And Its Effects
A future with no more disease, no more limitations to what we can or cannot do, the making of a
superhuman, playing God. Scientists can now make humans better than ever by improving their
bodies by changing the cells in your body. Genetic engineering can also prevent long time diseases
from continuing in a family and help treat many illnesses. Though it can help many issues, it brings up
many problems if used improperly and often abused. Genetic engineering harbors more moral and
ethical issues than having beneficial effects; however, the positive uses in specific situations should be
acknowledged.
Genetic history has been around for over a century now and began when Darwin first published the
book The Origin of The Species which gave comprehensive information about breeding, the first step
of genetic engineering. The next few decades after the first edition was published, scientists have been
researching and doing studies on DNA and genetics and establishing what it does and how DNA looks
like using a double helix and creating a genetic map to keep track of where all the chromosomes are
and the order of them. Soon the first genetically modified DNA organism was done in 1974. Then the
first genetically engineered mouse was done in the next couple of years in 1980. Soon they started the
first gene therapy on humans in 1991 and is still continuing to this day (GM Education). Technology
has now evolved to where people can replicate cells and clone an organism using DNA and then

Power Capacitors Essay
ABSTRACT
In the industrial sector the various motoring loads are continuously running and generating the
inductive load. So the power factor in this system gets reduced due to the inductive reactive power.
But the electricity board has a standard limits regarding the power factor values and if the power
factor goes below the specified limit; the electricity company charges the penalty to the industrial
consumers. The automatic power factor correction panel provides the required compensation to
overcome the inductive reactance by using the power capacitors. The microcontroller PIC receives
current signal from current transformer and simultaneously gives the signals to the various contactors
to connect the capacitors in the line for the compensation. Thus by adding the capacitor to the line will
compensate the reactive power and maintains the power factor near to unity. This will avoids the
penalty to the industrial consumers and may get the incentives. In the conventional methods we were
using the fixed capacitor for compensation. But these were leading to excessive charging of the
capacitors causes the voltage surges. Thus it becomes difficult to main power factor near unity by on
and off operation of fixed capacitor. The contactor switched capacitors are connected and
disconnected automatically eliminating the previous problem.

The low power factor leads to the increase in the load current, increase in power loss, and decrease

The Pros And Cons Of Solar And Wind Energy
According to President Barack Obama, There is one issue that will define the contours of this century
more dramatically than any other, and that is the urgent threat of a changing climate. The main reason
for global warming is the increment of using fossil fuels as a key source of energy across the board, so
some developed countries have started to transform the non renewable power sources to renewable
resources. Solar and wind energy systems are two kinds of renewable source of energy. Even if solar
and wind power differ in methods of generating power, they bring similar benefits to the society and
environment.
Solar and wind energy have different processes to produce electricity. Solar energy creates electricity
by making large amounts of heat, which is conducted through electrical conductors and changed into
electrical power. In most solar systems, solar panels mounted on the roof. These panels contain
photovoltaic cells made from silicon that convert incoming sunlight into electricity instead of heat. (
Photovoltaic means electricity from light photo = light, voltaic = electricity.) The photons of the
sunlight knock the electrons from the silicon, as a result, the negatively electrons accumulate in one
side of the silicon cell to create electrical voltage. This current form photovoltaic array and flows
through PV array cables, which are terminated in one fused array combiner box. It is designed to
protect the PV cell cables, and to deliver DC (Direct Current)

because she sees him in a positive light no matter what he s doing or feeling. She loves him

My Life Of Sports
Sports are a substainsal part of my life. As a person, I am very competitive and I love watching sports
almost as much as I love playing them. My two main athletic passions are softball and baton twirling.
I ve been playing softball since I was four, and nothing has been able to tear me from the field ever
since. I love the fast pace of the game, every at bat is exhilarating, and I always am hoping the ball
will come to me on defense. I have met many of my best friends through softball, and I love the
opportunity to be able to work and play a team sport with amazing people and friends. Along with
softball, I also enjoy basketball and football. My basketball career was brief (due to my shortness), but
I follow the NBA and I m a Warriors and Celtics fan. I have always kind of wished I could play
football, but I enjoy watching the Packers and Broncos, and follow college football go Hawks! My life
is immesly influenced by sports, and I can credit sports for an abundance of memories and years of
fun.
My other, more uncommon sport I compete in is baton twirling. Twirling is a rare and complex sport
that not many compete in, and for that reason, I am known to some as that twirler girl . Baton is like
smashing different types of dance, gymnastics, and aerobics into one, then adding one or a few, silver
sticks. It s an incredibly physically demanding activity that requires a great deal of practice,
perseverance, and patience. I started twirling at age three, so this is is

Compare And Contrast Jamestown And Chesapeake Colonies
Chesapeake is similar to Jamestown, in a few ways both of them had many changes in political
systems, grew tobacco as a cash crop, used slaves, and were Christian. They were also different, of
course, as the political systems they each went through were not the same, Jamestown traded with
natives when they were not squabbling, while the Chesapeake only did initially, their denominations
of Christianity were different, and their physical settlements were slightly different as well.
Both colonies changed political systems and powers throughout their lifetimes sometimes the change
was necessary, other times it was for the benefit of those in power, others due to the protest of the
colonists. Of course, both of these colonies went through different systems as they changed, being in
different situations. Jamestown first was founded with the Virginia Company supporting it, and having
multiple colony leaders in charge of the other colonists. The Virginia Stock Company was a good idea
in theory many investors would pool their money into the colonies in hope for profit however, it
eventually failed because it did not make enough profit to sustain itself. Before this failure, a few new
systems were put into place. The colony needed more settlers, so the company gave anyone who paid
for their trip to the colony a grant of land, and anyone having someone paying their fare would work

Self Observation Of A Self
Throughout my self observation, I felt the need to start with a baseline of who I am. Being raised in
the south I learned to respect myself and others, but sometimes people are just right down obnoxious.
Also, I hold myself to high standards because there s no reason why I cannot make my goals a reality
if I give it my all. This is known as Self Concept: The relatively stable set of perceptions you hold of
yourself. (Page 63) For example, in my observation I notice my patience level is very thin for people
who do not have respect for other s education. There s one girl in particular yesterday, who texted the
whole class, which my nursing class is from 8:30am to 2pm. Therefore, as I m trying to listen and
highlight in my book, only thing I hear is the sound of her long nails tapping on her keyboard or her
phone vibrating. Than during break she wants to ask me for the notes, because the teacher was moving
too fast. Since this is still the first couple of weeks of school, I try to be a little more understanding,
but I will not do someone s work just for them not to pay attention. Therefore today, when the test
came around I had studied my butt off and scored very well. But for the girl that sits next to me, she
complained that the test was too hard and how we didn t have the appropriate information to study for
the test. In that moment, I found myself comparing our differences, I work hard for my grades. I study
and work my butt off then there s those people that don t do anything in class but are the first ones to
complain. The book recognized this as Social Comparison: Evaluating ourselves in terms of how we
compare with others. (Page 66) Throughout the rest of my day, I noticed I compare myself to a lot of
different people without even noticing. Like when I was driving home I saw all these people texting
and driving, and I just could not help thinking like what the heck, I can t even look to the side without
going into the other line so how in the world are they texting! I do not compare myself to other to
prove whose better but I believe it just natural to compare others to yourself.
While at home, I observe the unreserved self more than while am at school where I trend to be a little
reserved. I

Adult Supervision
The concern of whether elementary school age children should require adult supervision, or should be
trusted alone has been discussed. For parents, the task of providing care and attention for their
children while juggling their other responsibilities as parents, has become complex and debate
whether it is appropriate to leave children on their own. Many tend to believe, that young children
should be supervised at all times, while others opine that children need their space. The reality is,
elementary school age children require a balance of adult supervision as needed depending on

Supervision of children should be a norm that parents and their adolescents should be accustomed to.
Not only does supervision offer a protective barrier to assure that children are safe, but as well aid in
establishing a bond of trust between adults and kids. Aside from establishing a bond, the supervision
of children has statistically proven that cases of kidnapping and sexual assault committed against
children have gone down due to the increase of administration over children. In scenarios such these,
where a child is left at a park on their own with no adult, such as Deborah Harrell s case of leaving her
nine year old daughter alone at a park as she went to work, adult supervision is required. If any harm
was to occur to Harrell s daughter, such as an injury, kidnap attempt, or even sexual assault, the lack of
adult attention would have been the cause as to why a tragedy could have occurred. Despite the fact

Indigenous Art And Other Manifestations Of Indigenous Culture
Indigenous Art and other manifestations of Indigenous culture were discovered during the process of
the colonization of Australia. The first Europeans to arrive in Australia made note of the cultural
artifacts they encountered. Artifacts such as weapons, drawings, sheets of bark and engravings were
collected as colonized culture and housed in scientific and natural history museums where they shared
the space with geological, plant and animal specimens. These objects were initially collected as
curiosities and as sources of information about the exotic native and places. Later they were ordered in
typological sequence to demonstrate the evolution of culture across different societies. These
manifestations of Indigenous culture were regarded as objective information about the diversity of
human culture. They were objects of the exotic worlds not seen as art, however, but as ethnographic
facts. This classification reflected contemporary socio evolutionary thinking of the time which
regarded the Indigenous as people without art. In the mid twentieth century the discourse surrounding
Indigenous Art began to change when major collections were acquired by art galleries as opposed to
ethnographic museums. These great collections of Indigenous objects, reaching back to 1770, provide
an early record of encounters between first Australians and European settlers encounters that have
irrevocably changed Indigenous societies. The Encounters exhibition at the National Museum houses

Anger In 12 Angry Men
Video analysis Being a human means having emotions. One of the most prominent emotions everyone
will experience at some point in their life is, anger. Anger can come in many ways, whether it is anger
toward a person, anger towards oneself, anger at society, and so on. Anger is also shown differently
between many through ways such as verbal outbursts, physical outburst, and body language. During
the 1957 MGM film Twelve Angry Men each of the twelve men showed some sort of anger toward
one another due to the situation they were put in. Bernard Roth, the author of The Achievement Habit
explains in the chapter Doing is Everything that humans, have biases which lead most to jump to a
decision that isn t always correct because of those biases humans create themselves. A great example
of this, is not far into the film when eleven of the twelve men have their first outburst toward Mr.
Davis juror number eight. Eleven of these men thought that it would be a very swift unanimous
agreement that the young man was guilty of murdering his father, but Mr. Davis felt that he could not
just let a young man go to jail because of a few facts that may or may not have been true. This anger
could be classified as situational anger because then men aren t mad at Mr. Davis, they are angered
more by the fact that they are being kept from what they would rather be doing. One of the most used
reasons by the twelve men was that the area where this young man was raised was enough to convict

a popular hobby in which cars are modified by their owners in order to optimize performance,
handling and perhaps add a personal touch. This type of activity might be mistaken by many to be
reserved for racing junkies , but if we take a closer look, it actually proves to be quite beneficial in
terms of fuel consumption and safety. Superchargers or turbochargers are known to increase engine
efficiency and power, whereas advanced suspension and braking tend to drastically upgrade handling
and thus safety. A carefully designed exhaust system can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A spark plug ignites the mixture and the combustion takes place. In this phase, timing is crucial since
the spark must occur when the air/fuel mixture is compressed to the optimal point. Else, the
combustion will not work as effectively as it should. Once the combustion takes place, the piston is
pushed back down Now, the exhaust valves evacuate the product of the combustion and the engine is
ready for another cycle. Here, we notice the importance of the valves that must open at the correct
time to fill the combustion chamber and then to clear this chamber from the product of the
combustion. The timing of the valves is controlled by the Cam Shaft. This part of the engine decides
on the correct timing: thus filling the combustion chamber when needed and evacuating it when it is
full. Factory, or stock , cars are made for average driving conditions and driver expectations.
Sacrifices in performance, efficiency, and even handling are made for more comfort (Wikipedia). Car
tuning is not yet very popular among people especially here in Lebanon. While people may think that
car tuning is only for race junkies , the fact is that it actually improves the efficiency, performance,
handling, and power of the car. The personal motive behind car tuning is usually personalizing the car
to suit its owner s needs, driving style, and personality. Engine efficiency is a major issue in the car
industry. Instead of completely replacing an engine by a bigger and more powerful

Biography of Janis Siegel
Janis Siegel, who has won nine Grammy s and has been nominated for another seventeen Grammy s is
most famous for her diverse musical talent. Janis Siegel was born on July 23rd, 1952 in Brooklyn,
New York. She began learning about music at an early age and she began singing with a trio girl group
at the age of twelve. The group was called The Young Generation. By the time she had graduated high
school, she and her band had already released two singles both produced by Richard Perry. Janis
Siegel says, At that time, I was exclusively listening to pop and folk music. When Motown became
popular, I fell head over heels for it [ ]. In high school and college though, she said John Coltrane was
her musical idol for jazz. After the band The Young Generation had graduated high school, they
transitioned to becoming an acoustic folk type of band. They then renamed themselves as Laurel
Sanyon. Then as Janis Siegel attended college for a couple of years, she studied nursing. But she quit
and decided to keep all her attention on the band Laurel Sanyon. At a party one time, Tim Hauser who
was a taxi driver, met Janis and asked her to sing some of his demos. He had musical ambitions to
which then he invited her to join a singing group that he d been trying to create called The Manhattan
Transfer. Once she joined, they went on to make an album called The Manhattan Transfer and made
their debut in 1975. As time went on, Janis Siegel s voice became the most easily identifiable feature

Compression clothing is apparel designed to press firmly...
Compression clothing is apparel designed to press firmly against an athlete s body to provide physical
support. The use of compression first appeared 60 years ago to provide relief for those suffering from
circulation disorders, and clothing to provide compression had been introduced following this. In
recent years, the clothing has grown rapidly in popularity among sports practitioners and enthusiasts.
The benefits that compression clothing provides include circulation improvements, enhanced muscle
recovery from injuries, improvements in oxygen use efficiency and distribution, and increases in
overall athletic performance.
1. Circulation: A 1987 study by the American Journal of Physical Medicine showed that athletes who
wore compression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theories for the causes of these two benefits include improved muscle function due to the
compression clothing holding the muscles in place. When muscles are not held into place, they
vibrate, which could lead to energy loss. It is also quite likely that circulation system and oxygen
usage improvements described previously contribute to increases in athletic endurance.
For all these reasons, athletes can stand to benefit from wearing compression clothing while taking
part in sports or exercising. Due to improvements in the way the body handles oxygen and blood
during aerobic activity from wearing this type of clothing, intensity of exercise can be increased and
endurance related benefits may also be experienced. Not only can compression clothing promote
recovery from injuries, compression clothing also commonly features thick padding that eliminates
excess sweat produced by the body and provides cushioning to shield athletes bodies from injury.
Because of this, wearing compression clothing is advisable not only for efficiency reasons, it just
might make you safer while you are out on the field as well.

Chapter Summary Of Looking Good By Lynne Luciano
Looking Good is a book by Lynne Luciano, published in 2001. The book is about the male body
image in modern America during the last five decades. The professor essentially asks three questions
in the book: 1. What is the reason to American men falling into the same beauty traps that women
have been for such a long time before them? 2. Have men become more feminine with their increased
concern about their bodies? 3. Have the women s movement in society caused men the last decades
caused men to become similar to them?
The author tries to answer three questions in the book, which are subjective, so it is hard to really do,
but she tries to by going through the economic, social, and culture changes that occurred after World
War II. During the first part of the book, Luciano discusses certain areas men are concerned about ÂŹ
body and fitness, hair, cosmetic surgeries, and sexuality. She writes about how the concern regarding
these male beauty aspects have increasingly become more and more important for men, that we spend
more money on hair transplant, cosmetic surgeries, fitness studios, fitness products and are more
concerned about our masculinity and appearance, which ironically, is typically seen as more feminine.
During the second part of the book, Luciano talk about the developments in the white collar business

3. Explain the basic logic of probability theory
Probability can be a complex field of mathematics, but in its simplest definition it is the likelhood of
an event being true divided by the total number of possibilities. For example, flipping a coin has two
possibilities: heads or tails. There is only one way for a coin to land on heads, so the answer to this
probability question is 1:2.
1. In a poll, respondents were asked whether they had ever been in a car accident. 177 respondents
indicated that they had been in a car accident and 107 respondents said that they had not been in a car
accident. If one of these respondents is randomly selected, what is the probability of getting someone
who has been in a car accident? 177 = Probability of choosing someone who was in a car accident
because fraction cannot be reduced any more 107 than it is. So the odds are 177 out of 284 total
choices.

him up Everest with a group of people led by a Rob Hall, a well respected expedition guide. Jon took
a plane to Nepal and eventually made his way to base camp. Every couple of days they would hike up
to a new camp and then hike back down to base camp. There are four camps and each time they would
hike to a higher camp to get used to the pressure. In chapter 9, they were going to hike from camp 2 to
camp 3, and they ran into a powdery snow storm. Rob told everyone to get down over the radio to
prevent further injury. In chapter 14 Jon makes it to the summit and then left rather quickly. He
encountered many other people pushing for the summit on his way down. While on his way down a
storm comes, Beck Weathers refuses to come with him and waits for Rob, and Jon makes it back to
Camp 4 with Andy Harris. He wakes up the next morning only to find out that many people have not
come down yet, most notably, Rob Hall. Most of Rob s Client were already at camp 4 because they

The Issue Of Racial Healing
Wrong, Wrong! I did not! Excuse me! Those were some essential phrases heard in the debate. The first
presidential debate in 2016 was extremely intense. The debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald
Trump had a little bit of everything. At times both candidates agree but most of the time they disagree.
During the debate both candidates were very stubborn because they did not open up to listen to the
other candidate s perspective. The topics covered by Lester Holt were also very interesting. The three
topics were income inequality, racial healing, and cyber security. The main question I will focus on
will be the question of racial healing. From the question of racial healing Trump strongly believes that
law and order is the best solution to reduce crime. He believes that if we do not have law and order we
will not have a country. Trump believes that African Americans and Hispanics are living in hell since
the streets are very dangerous. You walk down the street, you get shot are some of the words Trump
said in the debate. Mr. Trump believes this is happening because their is many illegal immigrants that
are members of gangs that are out in the streets. He also believes that taking away guns from people
could be a good solution since many African Americans are being killed. Trump firmly believes that
African Americans are let down by politicians and that we need to start a good relationship with time
in order to improve the situation. Mr. Trump believes we need to be

How Language Changes Start and Spread Essay
Language change happens every day. New words are constantly being added and new dialects are
forming. People have always argued about the causes of language change and tried to control the
changes that occurred but ultimately they accomplished nothing. Languages changes and spread as a
result of the people who use it daily. African American English and California English are both
examples of the different ways language can change. People try to resist the changes in their language
because they do not want to see it change. Language change is a natural process that can be affected
by others but never stopped. This course has done an excellent job explaining how language change
starts and spreads.
Language change can be caused by numerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As different dialects of a language develop they are shared with the people of the area. People often
use the dialect of those that they interact with most. To explain this simply, a person who only speaks
Chicano English is fine in their daily interactions with other speakers of the dialect but they may have
trouble speaking with a Northern Dialect. The spread of language change depends on the factors that
are causing it. The natural change in language over time smarts in a small area and spreads to
everyone that it comes in contact with.
This course focused on a numerous languages that were undergoing change. The simplest and most
relevant for many Americans are the changes that are occurring in English. America is a great melting
pot of different people and as such English s multiple dialects reflect cultural diversity. One of the
most studied and still not understood dialects is African American English. The point of contention
between the ideas for the origin of African American English is whether it was based on an existing
dialect in the south or if it was creole of English and different West African languages. Either way this
is an example of a rapid language change that has persisted over time. It is illogical to believe that the
slaves who were forced to learn English did not incorporate some of their own language. How else
could they have communicated before they fully understood English. An example of slower language

The time period largely known as the Gilded Age was centered around big business which caused
sharp economic and social class divisions as well as political corruption that led Americans to
progressive reform. From the ashes of the Civil War, a second industrial revolution was born which
ushered in new innovations and technological advances that drastically changed American life. As a
result, business became powerful and controlling on the economy, created difficult working
conditions, and influenced politics through manipulation and corruption. Americans poured into the
country at a outstanding rate during the Gilded Age , creating a supply of workers for the various jobs

Revulsion In Tod Browning s Freaks

Ancient Egypt vs. Canada
Ancient Egyptians are very interesting people. They were very successful and very powerful. Life in
ancient Egypt was not easy. They grew their own food and made their own clothes. They did as best
they could with what they had. Life in Canada seems easy compared to ancient Egypt. Their cuisine,
clothing, language, government, schooling and contributions to their society were different from ours.
For my essay I have written about each of these and seen the differences and similarities between
ancient Egypt and Canada.
The Egyptians made their clothing from plant fibers, linen, and sometimes cotton. Because of the hot
and sunny climate in Egypt, people had to wear thin lightweight clothes. The ancient Egyptians loved

Ancient Egyptian Government was dominated by a single man, the Pharaoh. The position was
inherited and was passed down to the eldest of the king s chief wife. The people believed that the king
was more than a man, however, but that he was a god. This gave him absolute control over the affairs
of the Empire and its people. Ancient Egypt was also a theocracy, which meant that it was controlled
by the clergy. The Pharaoh s advisors and ministers were almost always priests, who were considered
the only ones worthy and able to carry out the god king s commands. As in most religious ancient
societies, priests had special status above the rest of the citizens, forming a kind of nobility. The
governmental officials included the vizier (or the prime minister), the chief treasurer, the tax collector,
the minister of public works, and the army commander. These officials were directly responsible to the
Pharaoh. The land itself was divided up into provinces called nomes. Each nome had a governor, who
was appointed by the Pharaoh and responsible to the vizier. Taxes were paid in goods and labor.
Citizens were drafted into the army and into forced labor for periods of time to pay what was called a
corvée (the labor tax). Slaves, mercenaries, and draftees were often used in the

Privacy Policies And The Effectiveness Of Do Not Track
Privacy Policies and the Effectiveness of Do Not Track
Introduction
The Privacy Act of 1974 was established for the fair use, collection, and dissemination of personally
identified information (PII). These records are systematically maintained by several agencies in the
United Stated about its citizens, and residents. The disclosure of this information is prohibited but can
be accessed either by the consent of the individual or another agency with a warrant. With the internet
now being the free flow mainstream of information, as well as the common place for transfer of
personal data, for the use of different servers, new laws and legislations must be implemented to
regulate the control of such sensitive information. There are a number of countries that have
collaborated on this issue (such as France, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Germany). The
European Union (EU) has uniformly mandated several provisions on the collection and use of PII.
While Switzerland does not have an affiliation with the EU, it remains compelled to sponsor, and
aggregate legislation that complies with the EU standard. In the US, there is currently no federal law
that officially mandates and regulates digital information. US states independently debated on this
issue regarding whether digital information is privy to the protections of privacy standards. Users that
traverse the internet develop digital footprints, which are an established form of obtaining digital
information in a unique pattern.

Personal Statement Of Environmentalism In An Equivalent To...
In my opinion Environmentalism in many ways is equivalent to Feminism . Both the subjects have
been overlooked in the past by policy makers and corporations, have suffered injustice and are
fighting for their rights. Just as the world cannot progress entirely and achieve its true potential by
leaving one gender behind, in the same way we cannot achieve sustainable development by ignoring
our environment. As a young kid I didn t know what I and billion other Indians were missing in life
until I visited Singapore. I was awe struck by the efficient public transport, less reliance on private
cars for movement, vertical development, cleanliness and high quality of life. One of the starkest
differences that I noticed was how I could not tell the rich from the poor which is so evident in India.
Other thing that I observed was how the entire city was connected seamlessly. Print media and internet

The Genetic Disorder Or Autoimmune Disease
A.Who first discovered the genetic disorder or autoimmune disease? Kraepelin recognized biological
causes of mental illnesses. He is believed to be the first person to seriously study mental illnesses.
Kraepelin s Manic Depressive Insanity and Paranoia in 1921 detailed the difference between manic
depressive and praecox, which is now known as schizophrenia.
B. Is the disease state recessive or dominant? One study has also found a higher frequency in families
where the disorder is inherited from mothers. A particular case inquiry may be considered, assuming
that bipolar affective disorder can be inherited as a sex linked recessive trait or as an autosomal
recessive trait.
C. Differentiate between recessive or dominant? The difference between the two is that it depends on
the parents in which one or the both have the gene that is dominant but in which chase if it is recessive
it would not get passed down.
D. Is it a chromosomal abnormality? Although there is compelling evidence from twin, family, and
adoption studies to support strong genetic determinants for bipolar affective disorder, the underlying
molecular genetic basis for this condition remains poorly understood. The identification of the genes
responsible for major psychiatric illnesses such as bipolar disorder would greatly enhance our
understanding of etiology, as well as open new avenues for the development of more specific and
effective treatments.

Persuasive Essay On Tally Thai
Tally Thai is located at the heart of Pensacola street and will satisfy any person who craves Thai food

items, with everything from tasty noodles to miso soup and ginger salad. As an individual who barely
eats sushi, or food from Thailand in general, my roommates recommended that we eat at Tally Thai
for this assignment. The menu, like most traditional places, is organized to easily understand.
Beginning with traditional appetizers, this four page menu continues with soups, salads, then entrees.
To my surprise, the third page listed Thai appetizers, entrees, and sushi rolls, which I found to be more
conventional to culture in Thailand; with this, the menu ended on desserts and drinks, as most
restaurants do. There is no question that the menu is, without a doubt, not authentic instead it is
Americanized. If it were traditional, the rolls, especially, would not have been in english. With basic
names such as Philadelphia Roll and Gator Roll , it is clear to see the menu works with the
environment around it; being in a college town, most students would not be able to understand names
of entrees in a different language. Exemplarily, dishes such as the curry duck would be called àčàžàž‡àč€àž›àč‡àž”
in this culture. Not Americanizing this menu would make it impossible for individuals to order. A few
entrees on the menu do, however, represent Thai culture. Meals such as the masamun curry

The Exodus Research Paper
The date of the Exodus was an extremely interesting topic and has lead me to further research and
study. This has led me to another issue and what I will be writing about in the following paper. The
problem on deciding details of the Exodus comes not just with disagreement on dates, but also with
lack of harmony amongst several scholars about the facts of Egyptian history. To discover or get even
a little bit closer to the date at which the Israelites fled Egypt, one must get a better understanding of
Egyptian history, and the discrepancies in between.
Biblical Context
The Israelites came to Egypt through a man named Joseph, and his story can be found at the end of
Genesis in chapters 37 50. He was a famous man in the land of Egypt, and was a friend to the
Pharaoh, or king. Genesis 41:41 45 says:

The Bible says that he grew up amongst the Pharaoh s family and as a man he committed a crime and
fled Egypt. While he was away, the Pharaoh died and he returned at the command of God to assist in
freeing God s people the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Through Exodus 13, God works on Pharaoh
s hard heart through a series of plagues, each challenging different aspects of the Egyptian religion.
Eventually, a plague that takes away the firstborn of the people of Egypt who did not believe in and
follow God resulted in the Israelite release and exodus from Egypt. Finally, after hundreds of years of
living in bondage to the people whom they were once aligned, the Israelite nation is free to go to the
land God had promised them. Now the question is, when did this historical event take place, and who

  • 2. Essay on Globalization and Human Trafficking Trafficking in human beings is now the fastest growing business of organized crime. Men, women and children are trafficked within their own countries and across international borders. More than one person is smuggled across a border every minute which is the equivalent to ten jumbo jets every single day. And the trade earns twice as much as the Coca Cola brand. (STOP THE TRAFFIK 2014) According to estimates, more than 700,000 people are trafficked every year for the purposes of sexual exploitation and forced labour. They are transported across borders and sold into modern day slavery. Over the past decade, trafficking in human beings has reached epidemic proportions. No country is immune. Although human trafficking is the fastest growing process by which a person is enslaved, it is also the fastest growing international crime and one of the largest growing incomes for organised crime. It is estimated that at least 12.3 million people are victims of forced labour worldwide. Of these 2.4 million are as a result of human trafficking. Consequently it 1.2 million children are trafficked every year. (STOP THE TRAFFIK 2014) Six hundred thousand to eight hundred thousand men, women and children are trafficked across international borders each year. Approximately eighty percent are women and children and up to half of them are minors. Predominantly the vast majority of trafficked people come from the poorest countries and the poorest strata of the national people. Human trafficking is the second largest source of illegal income, being surpassed by drugs trafficking. Some trafficking groups have been reported to be switching their cargo from drugs to human beings, in a search of high profits at a lower risk. (STOP THE TRAFFIK 2014) Trafficking affects every continent and most countries. Every country is affected by human trafficking whether they are an origin country in which people are trafficked from, a transit country where people are trafficked through or a destination where people are trafficked to. • 3. An Informative Essay On Mardi Gras Mardi Gras is a Christian holiday, which was brought by the French when they colonized a part of the United States of America. The first time that Mardi Grass was celebrated in America, was on March 3, 1699 (History, 2016) in what is today known as Louisiana, later in this carnival would be moved to New Orleans. Since the carnival was moved out of New Orleans, every year is celebrated between February and March; it all depends when is going to be Easter. I chose Mardi Gras, because it was an opportunity to search more about this carnival, particularly in New Orleans. This carnival is celebrated around the world, but New Orleans has always stood up for its parade and French quarter, where people enjoy the parade, people can dance in the marvellous ... On the other hand, what is actually expensive is to find a hotel room in the same week people drive to Mardi Gras, because so abounding corporations or people have already booked theirs with years in advance, which people is more likely who don t have a room is more possible to stay in motels. Those are the few reasons why I chose Mardi Gras. I will connect in the holiday of Mardi Gras with the Carnival in Mazatlan, due the fact that the Carnival in Mazatlan is celebrated almost at the same time of Mardi Gras. The Carnival in Mazatlan also, takes into consideration Easter and Ash Wednesday. I will connect out the holiday by asking them to investigate how Mardi Gras is celebrated in other countries. The activity of production consists of in pairs, creating six sentences about the activities they both will execute in Mardi Gras, and also to choose the clothes they will wear in Mardi Gras for this activity. I chose this activity because besides of practicing the structure of will , as a teacher, I wanted them to feel alike in the parade and to connect with this celebration. Without failure, there always seems to be the well past drunk guy or girl who gets overly emotional. For many reasons, they re going off about something that s concerning to them in their current intoxicated state. In the instance where this guy or girl is crying, they go to their friends or someone else who s willing to listen. They go on and on about heartache from past relationships or someone they re currently interested in. The listener knows this friend well enough to know that when they have a clear head they wouldn t be saying these things, so they comfort them. On the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is Irene s memories of her mother, the mother s boyfriends, and herself. In a memory they are all spending time together and the adults are taking turns pushing her on the swings. Everyone was happy, even though it s hard to see because everyone s face is blurred out, happiness was there. At least that s what she s convinced herself from looking at what seems like a poor quality video. Through what appears to be normal family bonding, there s a whole other set up the mother had in mind. The mother always wanted something and made a point to get it. The mother used to try and do a lot of fun things with the girl like go places or buy her things because she was trying to create a good image of herself for the daughter. It was her way of making sure the daughter still saw her mother in a positive light and not as the mother who left her. At first, the girl believed her mother wanted to see her and maybe a part of the mom really did, but she soon figured out what her mom was doing without her knowing. The mother would also get her boyfriends involved so they d get to like the daughter. This enabled the mom to insist that she d given more money from each new boyfriend. • 5. Henri Matisse s Woman With The Hat When defining the use of art it has many meanings. Although, my definition of art is when something captures your imagination, provoking an intentional feeling in you. Woman with the Hat or La Femme au chapeau (page 725) is a painting by a French artist Henri Matisse, completed in the year of 1905. Oil on canvas painting, it s height is 80.56 cm high and 59.69 cm wide. Matisse believed that color could play a primary role in conveying meaning and focused his efforts on developing this notion. In this painting Matisse portrayed his wife, Amelie Parayre, it was first shown at the Salon d Automne, Paris. Amelie s pose for the portrait is very original, her face has a sad expression. It s obvious why Matisse named the painting Women with the Hat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amelie s face, clothes, hat, and the background consists of colorful patches and blotches that somehow produces a contrast and makes the painting look spontaneous. This painting is shocking to me because the use of non naturalistic colors and loose brushwork contributes an unfinished look. It is arranged by creating an energetic tense effect. Moreover, the elements of art in Women with the Hat are line, shape, space, color, texture, and tone. The lines of the painting are natural and soft. As well as the shapes, the lines are curved and organic. The shapes are very circular, their rounded nature focuses on the humanity and softness of a woman. The surroundings of Mitasse s painting are light, therefore the space is positive. The colors are bright and vibrant reds and greens and different types of blues. Amelie s nose shines with a yellow dot Pinks and greens are found in the background of the painting. The bright colors are kept in balance with the black outlines of Amelie and her clothing. The texture of this whole painting shows the rough brush strokes. Also, the patches of color on the background shows the different strokes and texture used which gives the painting a sense of ... • 6. The Industrial Revolution Of The Nineteenth Century In the eighteenth and nineteenth century there was the Industrial Revolution which resulted in society basing their work and life more on factories and production instead of on agriculture . Alongside industrialisation came capitalism which had the aim of creating profit; urbanism which consisted of mass amounts of people moving from rural to urban areas; and liberal democracy which emphasised the citizenship rights of each person and how they could make decisions on how to change their country rather than having to follow the rule of a monarch which loosely ties in with micro theories. Lee and Newby (1983) noted that there was widespread agreement among observers and commentators at this time that Northern Europe and North America were passing through the most profound transformation of society in the history of mankind in the early nineteenth century . Along with these developments which affected the way people worked was the Enlightenment which was a time period in which people chose scientific and objective ways of understanding the world rather than blind faith in religion and superstition .Through this new grasp and use of reason and rationality, sociology was clearly bound to develop in some way as people were becoming more educated and their minds were being opened to vast new possibilities of what they could achieve. Sociological imagination aims to understand the historical significance and the life of an individual person together as one element with C. Wright ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Technical Theory in Knowledge Management ITM 501 Module 1 Case Assignment By Social Technical Theory in Knowledge Management May 20, 2010 Henry David Thoreau once said, True friendship can afford true knowledge. It does not depend on darkness and ignorance . (Lewis 2006) If we look at friendship as an organization, and relationships within, you will find that Thoreau s statement is relevant to knowledge management. Information sharing between divisions, branches, and individuals is critical to the success of all. Additionally, John Adams has stated, The preservation of the means of knowledge among the lowest ranks is of more importance to the public than all the property of rich men in the country . (Levinson, 2007) The position of knowledge management traffic cop is key to the rate at which an organization is able to learn. A single repository for the assembly and deployment of tools and applications is critical to the success of a KM program. Levinson also warns that KM is not just about a web portal, collaborative data base, or other electronic tools. It s about Social Network Analysis (SNA) how does knowledge thread its way through an organization, and does everyone speak the same language. Social Network Analysis is a diagnostic method for collecting and analyzing data about the patterns of relationships among people in groups. Applied to knowledge management, SNA can identify patterns of interaction in an enterprise, including its properties, such as the average number of links between people in an organization, the number and qualities of subgroups, information bottlenecks and knowledge brokers. SNA provides a view into the network of relationships that gives knowledge managers leverage to: Improve the flow of knowledge and information; Acknowledge the thought leaders and key information brokers (and bottlenecks); Target opportunities where increased knowledge flow will have the most impact on your bottom line. • 8. The Importance Of War In All Quiet On The Western Front Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, depicts the true horror and brutality of war, and has shown people all over the world what it can actually means to fight for one s country. Although it may seem as though going to war is brave and honorable, that is not always the case. Through descriptive and graphic scenes, Remarque depicts the futility of war and unveils the terrors experienced by soldiers fighting on the Western Front during World War I. The theme of the meaninglessness of war is found throughout Remarque s novel, accompanied by the feelings of hopelessness of the soldiers when they realize it. The novel conveys that after fighting for so long, a soldier begins to realize that the killing is futile and results only in unnecessary deaths. The deaths on the Western Front were often in vain, because no territory was every really gained or lost during the front s battles. • 9. Genetic Engineering And Its Effects A future with no more disease, no more limitations to what we can or cannot do, the making of a superhuman, playing God. Scientists can now make humans better than ever by improving their bodies by changing the cells in your body. Genetic engineering can also prevent long time diseases from continuing in a family and help treat many illnesses. Though it can help many issues, it brings up many problems if used improperly and often abused. Genetic engineering harbors more moral and ethical issues than having beneficial effects; however, the positive uses in specific situations should be acknowledged. Genetic history has been around for over a century now and began when Darwin first published the book The Origin of The Species which gave comprehensive information about breeding, the first step of genetic engineering. The next few decades after the first edition was published, scientists have been researching and doing studies on DNA and genetics and establishing what it does and how DNA looks like using a double helix and creating a genetic map to keep track of where all the chromosomes are and the order of them. Soon the first genetically modified DNA organism was done in 1974. Then the first genetically engineered mouse was done in the next couple of years in 1980. Soon they started the first gene therapy on humans in 1991 and is still continuing to this day (GM Education). Technology has now evolved to where people can replicate cells and clone an organism using DNA and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Power Capacitors Essay ABSTRACT In the industrial sector the various motoring loads are continuously running and generating the inductive load. So the power factor in this system gets reduced due to the inductive reactive power. But the electricity board has a standard limits regarding the power factor values and if the power factor goes below the specified limit; the electricity company charges the penalty to the industrial consumers. The automatic power factor correction panel provides the required compensation to overcome the inductive reactance by using the power capacitors. The microcontroller PIC receives current signal from current transformer and simultaneously gives the signals to the various contactors to connect the capacitors in the line for the compensation. Thus by adding the capacitor to the line will compensate the reactive power and maintains the power factor near to unity. This will avoids the penalty to the industrial consumers and may get the incentives. In the conventional methods we were using the fixed capacitor for compensation. But these were leading to excessive charging of the capacitors causes the voltage surges. Thus it becomes difficult to main power factor near unity by on and off operation of fixed capacitor. The contactor switched capacitors are connected and disconnected automatically eliminating the previous problem. • 11. The Pros And Cons Of Solar And Wind Energy According to President Barack Obama, There is one issue that will define the contours of this century more dramatically than any other, and that is the urgent threat of a changing climate. The main reason for global warming is the increment of using fossil fuels as a key source of energy across the board, so some developed countries have started to transform the non renewable power sources to renewable resources. Solar and wind energy systems are two kinds of renewable source of energy. Even if solar and wind power differ in methods of generating power, they bring similar benefits to the society and environment. Solar and wind energy have different processes to produce electricity. Solar energy creates electricity by making large amounts of heat, which is conducted through electrical conductors and changed into electrical power. In most solar systems, solar panels mounted on the roof. These panels contain photovoltaic cells made from silicon that convert incoming sunlight into electricity instead of heat. ( Photovoltaic means electricity from light photo = light, voltaic = electricity.) The photons of the sunlight knock the electrons from the silicon, as a result, the negatively electrons accumulate in one side of the silicon cell to create electrical voltage. This current form photovoltaic array and flows through PV array cables, which are terminated in one fused array combiner box. It is designed to protect the PV cell cables, and to deliver DC (Direct Current) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being raised in the south I learned to respect myself and others, but sometimes people are just right down obnoxious. Also, I hold myself to high standards because there s no reason why I cannot make my goals a reality if I give it my all. This is known as Self Concept: The relatively stable set of perceptions you hold of yourself. There s one girl in particular yesterday, who texted the whole class, which my nursing class is from 8:30am to 2pm. Therefore, as I m trying to listen and highlight in my book, only thing I hear is the sound of her long nails tapping on her keyboard or her phone vibrating. Since this is still the first couple of weeks of school, I try to be a little more understanding, but I will not do someone s work just for them not to pay attention. Therefore today, when the test came around I had studied my butt off and scored very well. But for the girl that sits next to me, she complained that the test was too hard and how we didn t have the appropriate information to study for the test. In that moment, I found myself comparing our differences, I work hard for my grades. I study and work my butt off then there s those people that don t do anything in class but are the first ones to complain. The book recognized this as Social Comparison: Evaluating ourselves in terms of how we compare with others. Indigenous Art And Other Manifestations Of Indigenous Culture Indigenous Art and other manifestations of Indigenous culture were discovered during the process of the colonization of Australia. The first Europeans to arrive in Australia made note of the cultural artifacts they encountered. Artifacts such as weapons, drawings, sheets of bark and engravings were collected as colonized culture and housed in scientific and natural history museums where they shared the space with geological, plant and animal specimens. These objects were initially collected as curiosities and as sources of information about the exotic native and places. Later they were ordered in typological sequence to demonstrate the evolution of culture across different societies. These manifestations of Indigenous culture were regarded as objective information about the diversity of human culture. They were objects of the exotic worlds not seen as art, however, but as ethnographic facts. This classification reflected contemporary socio evolutionary thinking of the time which regarded the Indigenous as people without art. In the mid twentieth century the discourse surrounding Indigenous Art began to change when major collections were acquired by art galleries as opposed to ethnographic museums. Anger can come in many ways, whether it is anger toward a person, anger towards oneself, anger at society, and so on. Anger is also shown differently between many through ways such as verbal outbursts, physical outburst, and body language. During the 1957 MGM film Twelve Angry Men each of the twelve men showed some sort of anger toward one another due to the situation they were put in. Bernard Roth, the author of The Achievement Habit explains in the chapter Doing is Everything that humans, have biases which lead most to jump to a decision that isn t always correct because of those biases humans create themselves. A great example of this, is not far into the film when eleven of the twelve men have their first outburst toward Mr. Davis juror number eight. Eleven of these men thought that it would be a very swift unanimous agreement that the young man was guilty of murdering his father, but Mr. Davis felt that he could not just let a young man go to jail because of a few facts that may or may not have been true. This anger could be classified as situational anger because then men aren t mad at Mr. Davis, they are angered more by the fact that they are being kept from what they would rather be doing. Here, we notice the importance of the valves that must open at the correct time to fill the combustion chamber and then to clear this chamber from the product of the combustion. For all these reasons, athletes can stand to benefit from wearing compression clothing while taking part in sports or exercising. People try to resist the changes in their language because they do not want to see it change. Language change is a natural process that can be affected by others but never stopped. As different dialects of a language develop they are shared with the people of the area. People often use the dialect of those that they interact with most. To explain this simply, a person who only speaks Chicano English is fine in their daily interactions with other speakers of the dialect but they may have trouble speaking with a Northern Dialect. The spread of language change depends on the factors that are causing it. The natural change in language over time smarts in a small area and spreads to everyone that it comes in contact with. This course focused on a numerous languages that were undergoing change. The simplest and most relevant for many Americans are the changes that are occurring in English. America is a great melting pot of different people and as such English s multiple dialects reflect cultural diversity. One of the most studied and still not understood dialects is African American English. The point of contention between the ideas for the origin of African American English is whether it was based on an existing dialect in the south or if it was creole of English and different West African languages. Either way this is an example of a rapid language change that has persisted over time. It is illogical to believe that the slaves who were forced to learn English did not incorporate some of their own language. How else could they have communicated before they fully understood English. Gilded Age Dbq The time period largely known as the Gilded Age was centered around big business which caused sharp economic and social class divisions as well as political corruption that led Americans to progressive reform. From the ashes of the Civil War, a second industrial revolution was born which ushered in new innovations and technological advances that drastically changed American life. As a result, business became powerful and controlling on the economy, created difficult working conditions, and influenced politics through manipulation and corruption. Americans poured into the country at a outstanding rate during the Gilded Age , creating a supply of workers for the various jobs opportunities all over the country. McNeill summarized the absolute power railroad kings wield by saying, in his right hand he holds the government; in his left hand, the people (Document B). There were other figures who were against big business such as David A. Wells who believed that the creation of mass production techniques had eliminated workers pride in the quality of their work. Due to the large number of unskilled workers, manufacturing gave its workers boring, labor intensive jobs that focused on one aspect of a much larger system (Document C). • 31. Revulsion In Tod Browning s Freaks With figurative eye of newt and toe of frog, Tod Browning s Freaks stirs a grotesque, boiling caldron of Terror, Horror, and Revulsion within the viewer. Perpetually flinging itself between these three genres of fear, in an artful dance of death, Browning splices, mutates, and combines images to create a Frankenstein s Monster of conjoined dread and trepidation. Freaks is not a documentary and does not try to resolve or rectify the dilemma between Good and Evil, Humans and Monsters; or Us vs. Them; and certainly it is not a film promoting Freaks, they re just like us! • 32. Ancient Egypt vs. Canada Ancient Egyptians are very interesting people. They were very successful and very powerful. Life in ancient Egypt was not easy. They grew their own food and made their own clothes. They did as best they could with what they had. Life in Canada seems easy compared to ancient Egypt. Their cuisine, clothing, language, government, schooling and contributions to their society were different from ours. For my essay I have written about each of these and seen the differences and similarities between ancient Egypt and Canada. The Egyptians made their clothing from plant fibers, linen, and sometimes cotton. Because of the hot and sunny climate in Egypt, people had to wear thin lightweight clothes. Ancient Egyptian Government was dominated by a single man, the Pharaoh. The position was inherited and was passed down to the eldest of the king s chief wife. The people believed that the king was more than a man, however, but that he was a god. This gave him absolute control over the affairs of the Empire and its people. Ancient Egypt was also a theocracy, which meant that it was controlled by the clergy. The Pharaoh s advisors and ministers were almost always priests, who were considered the only ones worthy and able to carry out the god king s commands. As in most religious ancient societies, priests had special status above the rest of the citizens, forming a kind of nobility. The governmental officials included the vizier (or the prime minister), the chief treasurer, the tax collector, the minister of public works, and the army commander. These officials were directly responsible to the Pharaoh. The land itself was divided up into provinces called nomes. Each nome had a governor, who was appointed by the Pharaoh and responsible to the vizier. Taxes were paid in goods and labor. Citizens were drafted into the army and into forced labor for periods of time to pay what was called a corvĂ©e (the labor tax). Slaves, mercenaries, and draftees were often used in the ... Privacy Policies And The Effectiveness Of Do Not Track Privacy Policies and the Effectiveness of Do Not Track Introduction The Privacy Act of 1974 was established for the fair use, collection, and dissemination of personally identified information (PII). These records are systematically maintained by several agencies in the United Stated about its citizens, and residents. The disclosure of this information is prohibited but can be accessed either by the consent of the individual or another agency with a warrant. With the internet now being the free flow mainstream of information, as well as the common place for transfer of personal data, for the use of different servers, new laws and legislations must be implemented to regulate the control of such sensitive information. There are a number of countries that have collaborated on this issue (such as France, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Germany). The European Union (EU) has uniformly mandated several provisions on the collection and use of PII. While Switzerland does not have an affiliation with the EU, it remains compelled to sponsor, and aggregate legislation that complies with the EU standard. In the US, there is currently no federal law that officially mandates and regulates digital information. US states independently debated on this issue regarding whether digital information is privy to the protections of privacy standards. Users that traverse the internet develop digital footprints, which are an established form of obtaining digital information in a unique pattern. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Personal Statement Of Environmentalism In An Equivalent To... In my opinion Environmentalism in many ways is equivalent to Feminism . Both the subjects have been overlooked in the past by policy makers and corporations, have suffered injustice and are fighting for their rights. Just as the world cannot progress entirely and achieve its true potential by leaving one gender behind, in the same way we cannot achieve sustainable development by ignoring our environment. As a young kid I didn t know what I and billion other Indians were missing in life until I visited Singapore. I was awe struck by the efficient public transport, less reliance on private cars for movement, vertical development, cleanliness and high quality of life. One of the starkest differences that I noticed was how I could not tell the rich from the poor which is so evident in India. Other thing that I observed was how the entire city was connected seamlessly. Print media and internet have been a great influence in my life since my childhood. • 35. The Genetic Disorder Or Autoimmune Disease A.Who first discovered the genetic disorder or autoimmune disease? Kraepelin recognized biological causes of mental illnesses. He is believed to be the first person to seriously study mental illnesses. Kraepelin s Manic Depressive Insanity and Paranoia in 1921 detailed the difference between manic depressive and praecox, which is now known as schizophrenia. B. Is the disease state recessive or dominant? One study has also found a higher frequency in families where the disorder is inherited from mothers. A particular case inquiry may be considered, assuming that bipolar affective disorder can be inherited as a sex linked recessive trait or as an autosomal recessive trait. C. Differentiate between recessive or dominant? The difference between the two is that it depends on the parents in which one or the both have the gene that is dominant but in which chase if it is recessive it would not get passed down. D. Is it a chromosomal abnormality? Although there is compelling evidence from twin, family, and adoption studies to support strong genetic determinants for bipolar affective disorder, the underlying molecular genetic basis for this condition remains poorly understood. The identification of the genes responsible for major psychiatric illnesses such as bipolar disorder would greatly enhance our understanding of etiology, as well as open new avenues for the development of more specific and effective treatments. • 36. Persuasive Essay On Tally Thai Tally Thai is located at the heart of Pensacola street and will satisfy any person who craves Thai food in the comfort of their city. Along with the fresh seafood for sushi, Tally Thai has a vest menu of items, with everything from tasty noodles to miso soup and ginger salad. As an individual who barely eats sushi, or food from Thailand in general, my roommates recommended that we eat at Tally Thai for this assignment. The menu, like most traditional places, is organized to easily understand. Beginning with traditional appetizers, this four page menu continues with soups, salads, then entrees. To my surprise, the third page listed Thai appetizers, entrees, and sushi rolls, which I found to be more conventional to culture in Thailand; with this, the menu ended on desserts and drinks, as most restaurants do. There is no question that the menu is, without a doubt, not authentic instead it is Americanized. If it were traditional, the rolls, especially, would not have been in english. With basic names such as Philadelphia Roll and Gator Roll , it is clear to see the menu works with the environment around it; being in a college town, most students would not be able to understand names of entrees in a different language. Exemplarily, dishes such as the curry duck would be called àčàžàž‡àč€àž›àč‡àž” in this culture. Not Americanizing this menu would make it impossible for individuals to order. A few entrees on the menu do, however, represent Thai culture. Meals such as the masamun curry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Exodus Research Paper The date of the Exodus was an extremely interesting topic and has lead me to further research and study. This has led me to another issue and what I will be writing about in the following paper. The problem on deciding details of the Exodus comes not just with disagreement on dates, but also with lack of harmony amongst several scholars about the facts of Egyptian history. To discover or get even a little bit closer to the date at which the Israelites fled Egypt, one must get a better understanding of Egyptian history, and the discrepancies in between. Biblical Context The Israelites came to Egypt through a man named Joseph, and his story can be found at the end of Genesis in chapters 37 50. He was a famous man in the land of Egypt, and was a friend to the Pharaoh, or king. Genesis 41:41 45 says: So Pharaoh said to Joseph, I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt. The prodrug approach was widely used to overcome various problems associated with absorption, tumor targeting, distribution, pharmacokinetics, premature metabolism, occurrence of side effects, and patient compliance46 51. The concept of the prodrug was first applied to steroids in ophthalmology to improve the corneal absorption, aqueous solubility and patient compliance 52.
