Spelling: I was able to observe Nick s spelling growth over the course of my 8 week experience. My
mentor teacher did not administer class spelling tests, because the students are at various positions in

Marking Time Leaving for basic training was the most nerve racking thing I have ever been through. I
already knew about the physical and emotional difficulties I would encounter going off to boot camp,
but there was one thing that no one really informed me about that worried me, the food. Everyone I
spoke to had their own stories about what I would or would not be eating, but no two stories seemed to
add up. Needless to say, walking into that dining hall I expected to see, or at least smell, manure on a

For breakfast there were eggs, bacon, sausage waffles and so many more delicious options. My
personal favorite was the cinnamon sticks dipped in warm maple syrup, although there wasn t much
time to eat them, I savored every bite. As my day went, on because of all the training going on, I had

In fact, at least 50% or more of the movie consists of flashbacks. For example, one of the biggest
problems for our protagonist is finding out who the rat is. As everyone is pointing their guns and
accusing one another, we go into a flashback of Mr. Orange where we find out he is actually an
undercover cop. This flashbacks serves two purposes, much like all the flashbacks in the film. Its main
use is a tool for character development, but it is also very important for creating conflict and moving
the film forward, albeit in a non linear fashion common in Tarantino films. Here we learn that Mr.
Orange is a good guy who really enjoys his job as a cop, but what his flashback also does is escalate
the conflict. In it we see a strong bond grow between Mr. White and Mr. Orange, and it causes Mr.
White to clash with the rest of his team when defending Mr. Orange, who he wholeheartedly believes
is a thief like the rest of them. In the end this causes the death of three main characters. Each flashback
in the film serves this multi pronged purpose of telling us exactly who each of the protagonists are,
and then using these newly learned attributes to stir up trouble in the films plot. Basically, these

Living an spontaneous, carefree life like the characters in The Sun Also Rises do sounds like fun but it
isn t what it seems. Ernest Hemingway writes a piece of literature that when looked upon through a
new historicist critical perspective exposes the underlying truth and an uglier reality that is normally
suppressed presents itself. New historicist criticism in a nutshell is arguing that the literature is
directly influenced by the time period and place in which it occurs, but The Sun Also Rises also

These similarities make us believe that Hemingway was recounting his post war experiences through
the lives of the characters in the book. Characters in The Sun Also Rises are considered part of the lost
generation , a term created by Gertrude Stein to describe the generation that grew up in post war
society. By no coincidence Hemingway is also part of this generation. Post war life for the characters
in the book consists of heavy drinking and partying, a sort of escape from the real world, and the same
was a reality for Hemingway. Although France and all of Europe are in shambles after the war, the
