IS & Digital Business Transformation applied to Civil and Industrial Engineer...Lucas de Haro
As part of my MBA studies at UMass, I recently wrote a paper that describes the market and organizational conditions of Engineering firms in Europe and North America and how Information Systems can transform such companies in order to attain and sustain competitive advantage. This presentation is an extensive abstract of the referred paper.
The document discusses the repair of two historic masonry arch bridges in Portugal: the Boutaca Bridge and the Donim Bridge. Surveys found that both bridges showed signs of deterioration and structural issues like cracking, outward movement of walls, and damaged cutwaters. For each bridge, the document outlines targeted repair measures including adding structural reinforcement with tie rods and anchors, repairing arches, rebuilding damaged sections, and improving drainage to address the issues found and strengthen the bridges while respecting their historic nature.

This document provides information on stone masonry. It begins with an outline of topics to be covered, including the different types of stones based on their formation (igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic). It then discusses stone masonry and its uses in construction. Different classifications of stone masonry are presented, including rubble masonry (uncoursed, random, coursed) and ashlar masonry. Technical terms related to stone masonry elements are defined. The document concludes with general principles that should be followed for stone masonry construction and an assignment on coursed rubble masonry.
This document discusses repairs, rehabilitation, and retrofitting of structures. It begins by defining repair, rehabilitation, and retrofitting. Repair returns a structure to its previous condition without improving strength. Rehabilitation considers strength by repairing damage. Retrofitting modifies existing structures to increase resistance to hazards like earthquakes. It provides examples of each process. The document outlines evaluation and quality control methods for repairs. It also discusses materials and techniques used for crack repair in structures, including epoxy injection grouting. Overall, the document provides an overview of restoring and upgrading structures through various repair, rehabilitation, and retrofitting methods.
Stone masonry uses stones bonded together with mortar to construct various building components such as walls, columns, foundations, arches and lintels. Stones are selected based on availability, ease of working, appearance, strength, polishing characteristics and economy. There are two main types of stone masonry - rubble masonry which uses roughly dressed stones with wider joints, and ashlar masonry which uses accurately dressed stones with fine, uniform joints. Rubble masonry includes uncoursed, coursed, random, dry and polygonal styles based on stone arrangement. Ashlar masonry has fine, rough, rock-faced, block and chamfered styles based on stone dressing. Stone
This document lists 4 file extensions: .pdf, .psd, .png, and .pdf. The files are related to Photoshop exercises 2 and include 2 PDF files, 1 PSD file, and 1 PNG file. The files provide assets or instructions for Photoshop exercises numbered 1 through 3 for a second set of exercises.
This document contains 4 image file names for Photoshop exercises: Photoshop-exer#1_pic1.jpg, Photoshop-exer#1-pic3.png, Photoshop-exer#1-pic4.png, Photoshop-exer#1pic2.png. The images are for a Photoshop exercise and training.
The document contains file names for 10 JPG image files that appear to be from a project on September 11, 2011, with measurements ranging from 3.7 to 9.4 millimeters recorded in the file names.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
