How Is The Berlin Wall Related To The Civil Rights Movement

GLS102: Comparative Politics and Government
Opinion Paper #2
The U.S. Civil Rights Movements and the East German Struggle for Freedom
The Berlin Wall was a physical division that separated West Berlin and East Berlin in Germany from
1961 to 1989 during the Cold War. The wall was a symbolic boundary that divided Democracy and
Communism physically. The Berlin Wall displayed the different ideologies between two government
systems, how they worked and what the people thought about them. On November 9th 1989, the
Berlin Wall finally came down and transformed from a symbol of Cold War communist oppression to
an icon of freedom and revolution. It was a very important event in history that displayed change and

Those who lived Eastern Berlin not only had to face communist oppression but the wall s practical
significance was that it stopped them from leaving their homes and seeking a better life in the West.
Similar to the events that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Civil Rights Movement that occurred
mostly down south in the United States, also show people coming together to fight for a common goal
and stop oppression. The black American Civil Rights Movement embraces social movements whose
goals were to end racial segregation and discrimination against black Americans. Similar to the fall of
the Berlin wall, the civil rights movement is one of the defining events in history providing an
example of people fighting for the ideals of justice, equality and freedom. The Civil Rights Movement
was very important to the history of the United States as it established that discrimination was unjust
and would no longer be accepted in the country, while setting an example for oppressed people
everywhere in the world. The Berlin wall defined a loss of human rights and people came together to
bring the wall down, just like the civil rights movement brought black American together to walk for

Gluten Free Diet And Gluten Food
The Gluten free diet, a shitshow
Gluten free, it has become the blazing slogan on the majority of food items, including food items that
never had gluten to begin with, such as water. This push towards ridding our diets of grains has
become extremely mainstream, but is this diet as healthy as it has been made out to be? While there
can be some benefits to the gluten free diet, there is a lot of scientific evidence that suggests that
products containing gluten are a staple of a healthy diet. Even though a gluten free diet may be
medically necessary for some, the gluten free products available on the market are very expensive.
Ultimately, the only people who truly benefit from gluten free diets are those who have been
diagnosed with celiac disease or non celiac gluten sensitivity. The people who do choose to partake in
the gluten free diet who do not have a pre existing medical condition should consult their doctor
before altering their diet.
When I was attending primary school, maladies such as non celiac gluten sensitivity did not exist. Fast
forward to the year 2016, and I can name at least five people who are gluten free. The popularity of
the gluten free diet has grown, with, approximately 30% of the US population adhering to a gluten
free diet (Linda Johanson, 2015). Why is it that so much of the US population has adopted a gluten
free diet? According to the American Journal of Cardiology (AJC), this trend has been fueled by,

obstructions on the free exchange of goods amongst nations. This comprises the removal or reduction
of both liabilities and surcharges and non tariff complications (like licensing rules, quotas and other
requirements). The simplification of these restrictions is often referred to as promoting trade
liberation. (Investopedia. LLC, 2015) Trade liberalization treats that it can cost jobs and even lives, as
cheaper goods flood the market. It ultimately lowers consumer costs, increases efficacy and promotes
economic growth. (Investopedia. LLC, 2015) 2. Trade liberation in India The Indian economy has
entered a level of high growth in the current years, after a long period of little growth. As the
economic growth is not sufficient to achieve any developments, the policy makers shifted the concern
towards making the growth of the economy through a method where employment is at its
fundamental. 3. Back ground of trade liberation in India In 1960s and 1970s, the economic growth rate
of GDP in India had been still at 3−3.5 percent per year (Mishra Kumar, 2005).

The Death With Dignity Essay
In 1997 Oregon passed the Physical Assisted Suicide (PAS) called the Death with Dignity. PAS would
provide terminal ill patients who desired to end their life with access to a lethal dose of medication. In
order for a patient to get access to the lethal dose of medicine in Oregon: they must be 18 years or
older, able to understand, verbalize the consequences, and be a resident of the state. Terminal ill
patients have been medically diagnosed of living six month or less. If a patient in Oregon wants to
commit suicide there would be a 15 day waiting period between the doctor s agreement and the
issuance of the prescription (The Times). PAS is not only legal in Oregon, but also in Washington,
Vermont, New Mexico, and Montana. More than 70% of Californians support the legalization of PAS
and no bill has been introduced since 2007. American culture has been emphasized that citizens of the
United States have the rights and freedoms to make personal decisions. PAS needs to be legalized in
California so terminally ill patients suffering from physical and emotional pain legally end their life.
Despite religious groups disapproval of physician assisted suicide, some patients may suffer emotional
distress due to their physical state. A reason many people may disagree on assisted suicide is that
people s religious beliefs are against the practice. Religious institutions believe an individual should
not commit suicide, instead they need to die as a result of their illness. Roman

Kodak vs. Fujifilm
Kodak and Fujifilm What causes a company to declare bankruptcy? This is what most business
entrepreneurs fear the most something they work so hard for to fail. There are ways to mitigate the
risk of starting a business and ways to save one that is failing. Eastman Kodak Company is a large
multinational company that has recently filed for bankruptcy. Exploring what has gone wrong with
their business plan and how their competitor Fuji Films has gotten that equation right can help larger
corporations like them in the future. We can evaluate their performance by looking at all aspects of

Fujifilm began investing millions into developing digital cameras, Kodak decided to upgrade the
35mm film to a proprietary Advanced Photo System. Kodak had invented digital cameras in the 1970
s however they resisted introducing it to the market because they believed it would kill their film
sales. When the market changed to digital cameras and photo printers Kodak then found that they had
gotten left in the dust by Fujifilm and other companies (Gordon, 2013). Fujifilm s management on the
other hand was quick to adapt to the changing market conditions. By creating a plan that allowed them
to continue what they were doing in the film camera industry for as long as possible, and to start
moving over to the digital camera industry to keep forward and looking outside of their normal
consumer market for other ways to stay in the eyes of the consumers. One of the most important
moves that Fujifilm made was staying with what they already knew they were good at and began
learning how to adapt it to other markets arenas. Fujifilm unlike Kodak transformed from a fairly
narrow photographic supplier into a diversified company with significant health care and electronics
operations. They looked into more than just simply moving to digital photography from analog. They
tapped into its chemical expertise for more uses, such as drugs and liquid crystal display panels. These
panels were used for televisions, computers, smartphones and other devices that are the future of

The Old Testament Prophets
Introduction: Haggai is the prophet that tethers the Old Testament Prophets to second temple Judiasm
and New Testament Christianity. The man himself is covered in mystery and intrigue. Who is this
prophet that comes on the scene and vanishes as fast as he appears? The context is in a time when the
Israelites are back in the land YWHW promised, yet things feel much different. The temple is not yet
in construction and the Judeans are having trouble with the indigenous Samaritans. Haggai has a
challenge, but he is just the man for the job, and YWH has called him for just the time as this. Haggai
The person: Little is known of the prophet Haggai. The name Haggai means feast of Yahweh or by
contraction, Hagariah means Yahweh hath girded. This leads scholars to believe that he was born on a
feast day. Another theory is that the writer of the book recorded Haggai s prophecies later, and like
Malachi, gave him a nickname because he prophesied on feast days. He prophesied for a very short
time. Haggai 1:15 record the dates of Haggai s prophetic ministry. He prophesied in the Second year
of King Darius (521 486), in the year 520 from August 29th to December 18th. These 15 short weeks
make up one of the smallest prophetic ministries in the prophetic books. We also know Haggai existed
through other biblical and extra biblical sources. The book of Ezra contains passages mentioning
Haggai initiating the reconstruction of the temple (Ezra 5:1, Ezra 6:14 15). He is documented in

Price Escalation and Its Properties
International marketing concepts
International marketing is an exceedingly difficult and challenging activity for a multinational
corporation (MNC) marketer. According to Cateora, Gilly, and Graham (2013), international
marketing is the performance of business activities designed to plan, price, promote, and direct flow of
the companies goods and services to consumers of users in more than one nation for profit (p. 10).
International marketing strategies and its efficiency assists in the expansion of an organization. The
development of global markets was established by the needs of the consumer. Marketing strategies are

Exports versus goods produced and sold in a foreign country
As indicated in International trade (2013):
International trade opens foreign markets to goods produced in the United States, including billions of
dollars in Caterpillar machines, engines and parts produced by our U.S. employees. In 2007, thanks to
growing demand around the world, Caterpillar s U.S. exports reached $12.7 billion and helped to
provide jobs for tens of thousands of Caterpillar and supplier employees in the United States. (p. 1)
Conversely, Caterpillar does obtain international plants abroad. They have leveraged this opportunity
to gain market share by producing a low cost product with unsurpassed quality. If exporting was their
only option, maintaining competitiveness through a low cost product may not be possible due to their
overseas competition.
As described above, increased tariffs on imported goods drives cost to the product. If the product and
its raw materials are made in the host country, tariffs will be eliminated. However, if a fixed exchange
rate was negotiated and labor in the home country was less expensive than the possible host country
than importation could be further considered. If the cost to produce goods at home and a fixed
exchange rate could drive the home country to export. A fixed exchange rate when it comes to taxation
and when it is applied along with the comparative advantage theory is actually good for importation of
goods.
There are several theories on

Elizabeth Bennet Comparison
Have you ever watched a movie and thought to yourself, Wow, she/he reminds me of myself in a way.
, or, Wow, he is a lot like Phil. ? I do that sometimes, especially with girls like Elizabeth Bennet.
Elizabeth Bennet and I are similar because we are brave, strong and have many sisters. Elizabeth
Bennet and I are similar because we are both brave and gallant. In the movie Pride and Prejudice and
Zombies Elizabeth Bennet stands up for what she wants no matter what even if it means her getting
judged as a result. She is also brave because she was willing to run into a swarm of zombies to save
someone, even if it meant her death, which she knew. I am just as courageous as her because when my
friend was being picked on in front of the whole school I was the one who stood up for them, even
though I knew in my mind that I could be judged by everyone because I knew that I was a good
person for that and I didn t care what anyone else thought of me. ... Show more content on

forms of combat throughout her life and it showed that she did very well. She is also mentally strong
because she was able to think through problems and piece parts of the movie together, even if they
were not at all easy to find. Elizabeth and I are alike in these ways because I am a strong person as a
result of learning combat throughout my life and solve problems easily. We both also are able to detect

ADPIE stands for assessment, diagnosis, patient plan, implementation and evaluation of the
implementations. It was a very structured approach that has to be completed in the SBAR or ADPIE
format. It had to be done in order and each area had to be completed. There was no creative approach
allowed. Spiritualty was never part of any aspect of the process. There were times when as a student, I
did the SBAR or ADPIE format and I would be marked down for adding information that was not on
the checklist or if I left out a portion of a particular section. For example, if the patient did not have
chest tubes and I did not state the patient had no tubes, I was marked down. If I added the patients
spiritual needs in the format it would be crossed out because it did not fit the checklist. The nursing
approach that was used in our program was based on theory we learned in lecture. We wrote care plans
that included an assessment, structural variables, nursing diagnosis, goals, nursing interventions and
evaluations. We were marked down if the interventions didn t match the nursing diagnosis or if there
was insufficient assessments made to come up with a nursing diagnosis or goal. There was no
delegation or leadership involved with our approach. It was structured and specific with little ability to
vary from a nursing care approach that was taught. According to the (Nursing Fact Sheet, 2011) the

Turing, Searle, and Artificial Intelligence
The conditions of the present scenario are as follows: a machine, Siri*, capable of passing the Turing
test, is being insulted by a 10 year old boy, whose mother is questioning the appropriateness of
punishing him for his behavior. We cannot answer the mother s question without speculating as to
what A.M. Turing and John Searle, two 20th century philosophers whose views on artificial
intelligence are starkly contrasting, would say about this predicament. Furthermore, we must provide
fair and balanced consideration for both theorists viewpoints because, ultimately, neither side can be
correct in this scenario. But before we compare hypothetical opinions, we must establish operant
definitions for all parties involved. The characters in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The answer is no because we cannot accurately determine, from the given information, whether Siri*
understands what she is saying on a deep, emotional level, one requirement for personhood that both
Turing and Searle deem necessary (Searle; Turing). We have no method of measuring Siri* s level of
understanding outside of the Turing test, which Searle rejects as an accurate measurement of linguistic
understanding. And again, he also rejects the idea that any electronic machine can possess such
understanding whatsoever, so Siri* s response is essentially meaningless. Part D: Answering to Amy
In response to Amy s initial question, it would be unwise to immediately present either Turing s or
Searle s answer as a correct response. Similarly, it would be unwise to declare a winning philosophy in
this scenario, as the correct philosophy depends on the correct judging criteria, which we lack. Clearly,
if Siri* is a person, or judged to be a person based on certain criteria, then Turing is correct in his
assessment; Amy should punish her child. If Siri* is not a person, then Searle is correct, and Amy
would not have significant reason for punishment. But in this scenario, no judgment criteria are
explicitly being applied, nor is one school of thought clearly more appropriate than the other.
Therefore, our only hope of declaring which of the two theories is correct in this scenario, thereby
correctly answering Amy s initial question, is to hypothesize judging

The Legacy Of The Olympic Games

The Salute Seen Around the World For nearly as long as humans have been around, some form of
athletic competition has also existed. Dating back to the ancient Romans, people would travel from all
around to see their men compete. Since 1894, the International Olympic Committee has organized the
worldwide event we know as the modern Olympic Games. The games have for a long time been a
center point of many protests, revolving around the current events and arguments of the time.
American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos created one of the most iconic and socially
important Olympic protests at the 1968 Summer Games, when they raised their fists up while giving
the Black Panther salute on the podium. A gesture that has been celebrated, criticized, and discussed to
this day.
The Olympic Games are one of the most followed events in the world. As the games grew in
popularity and viewership, thanks to the improvements of technology throughout the 20th Century,
these protests became more recognizable. The Olympics create an international platform with one of
the largest viewing audiences of any TV event, making it very easy to send ones message to many
nations. Not only that, but the messages that the athletes would display were viewed at under a closer
scope, as they represent their countries. The protests and complaints made were looked at as national
headlines and other governments would often scrutinize the countries of the

The Effect of Audio Multitasking and Visual Multitasking...
Multitasking is an idea that many people believe saves time and helps complete tasks in a shorter
amount of time. However, theory suggests that by doing the same type of multitasking tasks, it would
be too strenuous to remember what you just did since both activities were almost the same. This
research paper aims to evaluate how the same type of multitasking affects the memory of humans.
Data from twenty seven people were collected in which they had to perform two types of multitasking
activities and take a test to see how much they could remember. Results show that most participants
scored lower test scores on the audio multitasking test compared to the visual multitasking test and
that the female participants obtained a test average ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, performance on individual tasks may suffer such that errors are made and overall
productivity is diminished. (para. 2) also in 2009 Ophir, Nass, and Wagner advised, Moreover,
chronically high multitaskers were more readily distracted by both irrelevant external stimuli and
recently activated internal representations during singular task performance. Overall, people are more
easily distracted if they tend to multi task often.
Many scientists dispel the idea that multitasking is in fact an efficient way of getting things done. For
example, in a study conducted by Clapp, Rubens, Sabbharwal, and Gazzaley (2011) concluded that,
multiple tasks increase task difficulty/complexity, resource capacity limitations, increased crosstalk
conflict, and greater bottleneck processing limitations. This shows that there is a plethora of research
done to prove the ineffectiveness of multitasking. Yet research done in 2013 by Shih reveals,
behavioural and brain research suggests that multitasking is challenging and often stressful and
unproductive. However, most multitasking research observes participants conducting two cognitive
tasks that do not involve media per se (except that tasks are often computerised) This reveals that most
multitasking occurs with the use computers or technology however, many test subjects and

Negative Effects Of Running Marathons
For most, running 26.2 miles just for fun is not appealing; however, others do want to run marathons
for the excitement of a race or to prove to themselves that they can do it. For many reasons, runners
are on board to hit the pavement, whether it is for the challenge or for the numerous health benefits
that come along with it, including weight loss and fitness. Because of the positive effects of running,
the negative aspects of running long distances are sometimes overlooked. Before deciding to just get
up one day and start training for a marathon, know that running this lengthy race has both desirable
and undesirable physical consequences.
Often, running is a route to weight loss and, thus, motivates individuals to get out and exercise, to
burn calories. The activity does burn calories. For example, running at a 6 mph pace burns 372
calories in 30 minutes for a 155 pound person, according to Andrea Cespedes a freelance wellness
expert. However, since calories are needed for performance during long runs, one must increase
calorie intake to fuel the run, especially if the runner s mileage is lengthy (Cespedes). In addition,
some uneducated runners believe that the exercise can be an excuse to eat unhealthy food, saying that
their running makes up for what they eat. This, however, is a myth because often the calories are
empty and do not promote general health. You ran 10 miles, therefore you deserve the fries, shake and
burger. Calories still count and running doesn t

Importance of Thinking in Troilus and Criseyde and Hamlet...
Importance of Thinking in Troilus and Criseyde and Hamlet
Troilus and Hamlet have much in common. Both have represented the quintessential tragic heroes of
two literary periods. Both lovers, Troilus and Hamlet lose what they love despite their earth shaking
groans. Both are surrounded by traitors and are traitorous in kind. Both are embattled and this is no
secret both die. But somewhere on that mortal coil on which they are both strung, they confront a
similar question, a question which divides them in no sense less than the waters divide England and
Denmark the question of action. This essay pretends to do little more than probe the circumstances of
that question in relation to a speech that appears prominently in Shakespeare s ... Show more content

Now, Hamlet comprehends the arbitrary nature of power that would send an army against a minuscule
plot of ground. He understands good and evil and the machiavellian wheels that grease the way to the
throne as they are, a process in which he is complicit. Hamlet, a once simple prince, is sick at heart.
An inextricable belief in fate centers this bitter epistemological com ëment. In Hamlet s world, birth
alone is a telling reason and excuse for tainted character (1.4.24 26, 1.5.91). But heaven takes part as
well; there s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow (5.2.230 231). Taken together, this realization
of inequity and the apparently long understood mechanism of biological predestination, are staggering
to Horatio s sweet prince. If such biological predestination is true, then how should Hamlet understand
the base actions of his family members and of himself? Either his family are impostors to nobility or
this idea of predestination is faulty. The play gives ample evidence of a prince who has long dallied in
philosophy and seldom lived in the world. Indeed, the transparent nonsense that a person may not
exceed his birth is indicative of this. Like Joyce s Stephen Dedalus, Hamlet glamorizes death through
his sable clothes. Claudius?and Gertrude s advice is honest, sincere, and worldly: death is the most
commonplace of occurrences: accept it and nmove on. When the murder is revealed, progression

Rikkki Tikki Gi Movie And Movie Analysis
Curiosity is the best word to describe a mongoose, this is because mongooses like to explore the world

The story only gives brief descriptions, but the movie adds or gives more detail to the setting. The
story states that, One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow... (Kipling 143). While
the movie represented the high summer flood as a thunderstorm, in a jungle( movie 00:21). If it was a
high summer flood, then why would the movie include thunder noise or the noises of scarred
animals(movie 00:29). This three evidence points out the difference of how a movie represents the
wording of the story. In conclusion the setting of the story changes a little because the movie specifies
the setting. Thirdly, the resolution of the story and the movie doesn t change, because both are part of
the same story, if the resolution were to change, the story wouldn t make sense. Both medium
resolutions are about what Rikki Tikki did to defeat Nagaina, like killing her eggs. As the text shows,
Nagaina saw that she had lost her chance of killing Teddy, and the egg lay between Rikki Tikki s paws
( Kipling 154). Another piece of evidence is shown in the movie, where Rikki Tikki smashes the eggs,
but keeps the last egg and shows the egg to Nagaina( movie 19:07). The resolution also has to do with
how Nagaina died or how the text states never came back. As told by the story his little white teeth
were clenched on her tail and he went down with her and very few mongooses, however wise and old
they may be, care to follow a cobra into its hole ( Kipling 155). As

Alfred Russel Wallace And His Modern Biogeographical Legacy
Special Assignment
There s No Place Like Home: Alfred Russel Wallace and His Modern Biogeographical Legacy was
presented by Lynne R. Parenti, Ph.D, on April 17,2015. Dr. Parenti presented in University of Hawaii
at Manoa s BioMed building in Room B 103 at 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Dr. Lynne Parenti is a curator of
museum fishes at the National Museum of Natural History in the Smithsonian Institution. I chose to
attend this presentation because the field of biogeography seemed interesting as well as the history of
biogeography.
Although many know that Darwin proposed the theory of evolution, Alfred Russel Wallace helped
Darwin propose the theory of evolution. According to Dr. Parenti, Wallace also believed that biology
predicts geology. In addition, Dr. Parenti believes that on the date Wallace wrote a letter about a
remarkable observation he made, the field of modern biogeography began. Wallace observed two
distinct faunas the Indo Malayan Biotic Area and the Australian Biotic Area that were separated by a
demarcation that was later named Wallace s Line. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parenti states that there are three principals to biogeography: endemism, terrain fidelity, and area
classification. In terrain classification, groups of endemic species are predicted by using maps.

Chesapeake Colony In The 1600 s
In the 1600 s those coming from the West Indies searching for land established a new colony south of
Chesapeake. This colony was owned by the Lords Proprietors. To quickly populate the Carolina s the
Lords Proprietors offered large incentives attracting many colonists. These were things such as
religious toleration, political representation, and large grants of land. With workers needed Carolina
offered freedom dues; attracting many poor people that would work as indentured servants. As
Carolina gained the common settlers and indentured servants the Lord Proprietors made sure to
include great planters with large land grants and absolute power over their slaves. As the Lord
Proprietors were in England they could not fully control Carolina. This was seen as men known as ...

Racial Segregation Research Paper
Racial segregation in the United States continued even after the Civil War, in the form of laws
requiring separation of people by race and in the form of ubiquitous discrimination and widespread
social resistance to integration. But even during the height of racial segregation and discrimination,
people in the performing arts pushed their audiences to reconsider their prejudices and assumptions
regarding classification and disparate treatment of people based on race. Broadway s and Hollywood s
most famous musical theater writing team, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein Jr., both
reflected and powerfully commented upon these racial tensions in two of their most famous musicals:

American citizens question, How should we rebuild our country Socially aside from economically?
This show differed from the King and I in many ways, including the fact that the first couple shown in
the show traveled to Vanuatu together instead of meeting there. South Pacific was considered by many
to be Rodgers and Hammerstien s greatest show, winning a Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1950 as well as
10 Tony awards (The Broadway League), (Broadway Across America). This Show, thanks to its
immense popularity in the 1950 s and 60 s, had two revivals, including one starring TV stars Kelli O

Physician Assisted Suicides
Imagine suffering day to day with consistent hospital visits, numerous medications, and unbearable
pain for the next six months of your life, then being told that dying peacefully is not a granted
privilege. Then imagine not being able to die in a controlled and dignified process like you prefer to.
How would that affect the way you feel about death and the rest of your life you have left? Millions of
people suffering from terminal illnesses consider physician assisted suicide, but their wishes are
rejected due to state and government beliefs. In fact, only five states out of fifty have a law permitting
citizens the right to participate in physician assisted suicide. That leaves just only 10% of the United
States entitling critically ill patients to die with nobility. However, many citizens are commencing to
lean toward physician assisted suicides once they ascertain they hold a terminal illness. ... Show more

In other words, Physician Assisted Suicides permit terminal patients and physicians to work together

Kants Fundamental Principles Of The Metaphysics Of Moral...
Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Moral
The central concept of Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of
Morals is the categorical imperative. The conception of an objective principle, in so far as it is
obligatory for a will, is called a command (of reason), and the formula of the command is called an
Imperative. (Abbott, 30) An imperative is something that a will ought or shall do because the will is
obligated to act in the manner in which it conforms with moral law. The categorical imperative is an
obligation by the will to act so that the action can be classified as a universal law. When one acts in
conformity with the universal law at all times, they are following out the categorical imperative. This

Kant uses four examples to better describe the working of the categorical imperative in Fundamental
Principles of the Metaphysics of Morals. The first example is of a man who is suffering from many
misfortunes in life and wishes to commit sucicide on the basis of self love. Kant declares that this
cannot be the categorical imperative at work because the maxim derived from self love, to shorten his
life to avoid more pain, is a contradiction in itself for no man can kill himself painlessly and therefore
cannot be a universal maxim. The action of killing oneself would cause pain, which is not in
conformity to the maxim stated to avoid pain. The second example Kant gives is based on the basic
premise of lying. A man is forced to borrow money which he knows he will never be able to repay but
he promises to do so anyway. This action is not consistent with duty and the maxim could be
expressed as: When I [the man] think myself in want of money, I will borrow money and promise to
repay it, although I know that
I never can do so. (Abbott, 39) The maxim cannot hold as a universal law because if everyone lied
about promises, the promise itself would become impossible, and the end would be unattainable.
Telling the truth is an end in itself. The third example is of a man who it bestowed a natural ability but
does not use it to it s full

The French Food Waste Bill Essay
Trevino and Nelson define an ethical dilemma as a situation where two or more right values are in
conflict (p. 39). When differing opinions from two separate parties meet often solutions can only
benefit one group, where both cannot be satisfied. A relevant business story with an ethical dilemma is
the french food waste bill, that has come into law earlier this year. This is an illustration of how one
ethical value has overcome another in order for government to deal with the national food waste. In
this report we will be analysing the decisions and actions of the main actors Arash Derambarsh and
Guillaume Garot and how their ethical view s affected the government s actions on edible food waste.
In the early 2000 s, Derambarsh began his law degree and found it increasingly difficult to feed
himself and it was very common for students who had only four hundred euros a month after rent to
find themselves hungry. 2010, Derambarsh started to grow awareness towards hunger in France, so he
started campaigning against the wastage of food in his local area (Froelich, 2015). He now represents
the Paris Commune of Courbevoie and believes that edible food being wasted is, scandalous and
absurd , when there are still hungry citizens in France needing this such as the homeless, poor and
unemployed (Froelich, 2015). Derambarsh often was insulted and abused for having an idealistic
mindset over this ethical dilemma. Although his main focus was helping the people, because

Unjust Vs Reverse Discrimination
Life is full of laws, unjust and just. But what makes a law unjust? Is it just discrimination or, could it
be more. People have always been treated differently depending on race, whether you know it or not
there has always been discrimination in our society. We have laws and business practices that supports
discrimination known and unknown, these laws that unjust laws are practiced on a daily basis. One
way to define an unjust law is one that shows favor to group or another. A philosopher named Robert
k. Fullenwider believes the only way to fix this is not by making new laws in order to reverse the
damage that has been done. On the other hand martin Luther king Jr believes that we need laws in
order to right the wrongs unjust laws of the past. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fullenwider saw it in another way, in order to fix unjust laws to get rid of all unjust laws. He started
by saying, the way to end discrimination is to not discriminate in reverse but to stop discrimination.
(pg. 271) we are not going to be able to fix a problem by making laws in reverse to what has already
been done. We need to put an end to it all together. By making reverse discrimination we are not
making thing better, we are just sweeping the issue under the rug so to speak. When we reverse
discrimination we just force people to meet a quota . In his paper he points out that, a company policy
not itself is designed to keep blacks out nevertheless, does exactly that. (pg. 272) Companies do not
have policies that say no black allowed. They have requirements in place that in a roundabout way
keeps blacks from getting the job. Some black person could have had the job if they had the education
or recommendations to get the job. Companies have rules were they know blacks can t meet the
requirements because of the way that our society is set up. To fix discrimination is not about what is
seen or what is known Fullenwider points out that, it is about the nature and sweep of discrimination
(pg. 272) if you only work on a surface level you will only get a surface result. In order to move on
from such an ingrained problem like discrimination you need to get rid of it in all forms. You can t
reverse what has already been done but you can put an end to it cold turkey , stop it in its tracks. One
thing that is being overlooked is that our country was not made for blacks to live happily. The world is
built for giants and of course we don t do well in that world but give us back the world built for us and
see what we can do. (pg. 273) Whites are the giant in our world. The world we live in is a world that
was made to the white race benefit and blacks are just people trying to fit in. The laws are not what is
needed for blacks to fit. In

The Factors That Shaped the Elizabethan Religious...
The Factors That Shaped the Elizabethan Religious Settlement When Elizabeth I was proclaimed
Queen in 1558 a new era of religious tolerance began. With her religious settlement, Elizabeth had to
consider a number of different factors. Without doubt, the most important task following her accession
was to resolve the ideological divisions in the country brought about by the religious changes in the
past three monarch s reigns. However, when deciding on her own religious settlement, Elizabeth had a
number of influencing factors. She had grown up as a committed and conventionally pious Protestant
and these views obviously effected the way she ran her household and country, and consequently ...

Haigh claims that there can be little doubt of Elizabeth s personal Protestantism and historians such as
Pollard, who claimed that she was indifferent to religion have been largely disregarded. This is likely
to be attributed to the strong influence of family, and the education she received from humanists
William Grindal and Roger Ascham. It has been argued that she wished to return England to the state
in which her father left it Catholicism without the Pope. It is clear that her brother, Edward VI, also
heavily influenced her, as the final religious settlement was in fact very similar to his doctrinal
Reformation. However, her personal beliefs are more diverse, and cannot be attributed to so few
influences. Her belief in private devotion can be illustrated by the fact that she did not want to make
windows into men s hearts. It can therefore be argued that Elizabeth was not as radical as some
Protestants of the time, for example the returning exiles. Even before exile had faced them some had
become influenced by Calvinism, the most extreme of Protestant faiths. Although Elizabeth respected
these views, she did not totally conform to them, but just believed in certain aspects. For example she
did not practice transubstantiation. However, her more conservative ideas are evident in the final
settlement as the extra sentence is added which leaves the right

Project definition:
LEGO is one of the largest companies in Denmark and a company with a very strong brand. But even
so, their economy fell apart in 2003 2004 and we are interested in what they did wrong and what they
did to turn their significant loss around to a profit in 2005. So our problem is:
What caused LEGO s financial problems in and what did they do to turn it around? This is very
relevant, because it shows how even one of the biggest brands in a market can t afford to relax in any
aspect of the value chain. Even though LEGO is a big brand, their profitability is not to be taken for

To answer the problem we used a history of LEGO, made a Value Chain, a SW model and

in the 1990 s to become a lifestyle brand with its own line of clothes and watches and they built more
theme parks as well. By doing this, they started neglecting their core business: the LEGO brick.
Value Chain of LEGO:
In March 2004, Knudstorp launched his dramatic turnaround plan: a mix of cost cutting, philosophical
renewal and back to basics simplicity. This Action Plan was emphasizing three main themes: Set clear
direction for the LEGO Group and fundamentally change the way they do business. Restore
competitiveness by focusing on costumers, in particular their profitability. Reducing the level of risk
by right sizing their activities, cost base and assets to a lower revenue base.
Inbound logistics
Lego has reduced significantly its number of plastic resin suppliers, and has signed longer term
contracts which reduced and stabilized pricing, lowering costs and enabling better planning.
Operations
LEGO has rationalized production lines, reducing the number of products that could be made on each
machine, adding simplicity and reducing changeover costs. It established more fixed production
cycles, and better tied manufacturing to the rest of the supply chain. For example, it was no longer
acceptable to make manual changes in a molding machine without

Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness Essay
Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness
In the opening scenes of the documentary film Hearts of Darkness A Filmmaker s Apocalypse,
Eleanor Coppola describes her husband Francis s film, Apocalypse Now, as being loosely based on
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Indeed, loosely is the word; the period, setting, and circumstances
of the film are totally different from those of the novella. Yet, a close analysis of character, plot, and
theme in each respective work reveals that Conrad s classic story of savagery and madness is present
in its cinematic reworking.

The idea of company man turned savage, of a brilliant and successful team player, being groomed by
the Company for greater things, suddenly gone native, is perfectly realized in both novella and film. In
the film, Kurtz is portrayed by Marlon Brando, the father of American method actors, who lends
weight (both physically and dramatically) to the figure of the megalomaniacal Kurtz. Brando s
massive girth is all the more ironic for those familiar with Heart of Darkness who recall Conrad s
description: I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the bones of his arms waving. It was as though an
animated image of death carved out of old ivory had been shaking its hand with menaces at a
motionless crowd of men... (Conrad, p.135). One could speculate that Coppola s Kurtz is a graphic
analogy of the bloated American war machine dominating and perverting the innocent montegnards of
Cambodia; however, after viewing Eleanor Coppola s documentary, one finds that the casting was
more based on a combination of Coppola s wanting to work with Brando (remember The Godfather )
and Brando s own weight problem. (It should also be noted that the cult like following of Kurtz in
Heart of Darkness is brilliantly and subtly updated by Coppola in a foreshadowing scene in which
missives to Willard from headquarters are intercut with scenes of newspaper clippings about Charles
Manson.)

Children Dealing with Life and Death
Most children ponder the thought of what life would be like without their parents. They imagine how
amazing and fun a life filled with jokes and no rules would be. Not even having to go to school if you
did not want to. Except this is not how life works. When a parent dies and the reality sets in, it quickly
shows us that life is not all fun and games. The death of a parent is a devastating reality for any young
child to bare. This abrupt reality may have long lasting effects as each child has their own unique way
of perceiving life s events. In the blink of an eye ones world may be completely twisted around. This
kind of tragedy has the ability to shape a child in both negative and positive ways. They are now faced
with the task of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another type of death is one by tragedy that can be unexpected and can be more devastating than
prolonged death in that it occurs suddenly and without notice. More often than not parents die
unexpectedly and their children are left behind in a big scary world with no guidelines on how to
survive. In part this is because parents do not expect to die while their child or children are still young.
Planning ahead for the future can be difficult for parents emotionally as well as culturally and in some
cases even financially. Initially when a parent dies it seems as if they have all the support in the world
by people who love them. Most people seem to think that after a year or more children should be well
adjusted, happy and have made it through their traumatic loss. A child s perspective may seem
different in fact they may feel more alone. A child named Abby had this to say about that topic The
pain got worse! Because the initial shock wears off, people stop coming to your house, and you are
left....with yourself (Simon, Johnson 49). What most people do not realize is that they still are not
okay.
No one can completely prepare for the unknown when a child loses a parent no one can predict how
each child will grieve. The caretaker of the child who is grieving has the responsibility of trying to
understand the child s thoughts or questions. When a child s parent has died adjusting to a new way of
life can be extremely difficult

When most people think of the holocaust, they think of people being forced into concentration camps,

he mainly conducted the experiments at Dachau (Holocaust on Trial http://www.pbs.org). He used

Why the American Civil War lasted for longer than 90 days The North had expected their war with the
south to last for no more than 90 days. They not only had more men up in the north but they had more
resources as well. Now why couldn t they defeat the south? I have to say it is due to the incompetence
of the north s generals commanding the army, and the army itself. On April 15, 1861, President
Lincoln called on the states to provide 75,000 militia men for 90 days to put down the rebellion of the

A Hanging By George Orwell
A Reflective Essay on the Short Story A Hanging by George Orwell
The short story A Hanging by George Orwell illustrates the experience and intrigues surrounding the
hanging of a Hindu prisoner in Burma. Orwell dwells on the inhuman nature of capital punishment
and how the hangmen disregard the dignity of human life to commit a prisoner to the gallows.
Unarguably, the purpose of this non fiction story is to persuade the readers of the horrifying injustice
of subjecting a convict to the death penalty. As this reflective paper shall present, throughout the short
story, the author intelligently uses irony and sarcasm to manipulate the mood of the audience thereby
convincing the readers of his criticism of capital punishment and the barbaric administration of justice
in the Burma prisons.
To begin with, Orwell is explicitly against any administration of capital punishment on convicts. He

more in the relationship than she. In some sense, your wife finds your parents offensive to her
sensibilities. Do you not ponder the facts? At some point, as sweet and ... Show more content on

We must have loyalty and allegiance to have the characteristics of a healthy functioning family. The
problems arose when your wife included only you in her issues regarding your parents. You were
triangulated into a third person used to arbitrate or judge. It is never productive for a fully functioning
family. If any two people within a family have issues arise it has to remain between them and not
involve third party arbitration. It should always be in private, one on one, and by getting out of one s
comfort zone, even if it is not in the scope of one s normal behavior. Every family, no doubt, has a
dysfunction, but this has been a colossal misjudgment regarding best laid intentions.
The following quotation aptly describes what you, Dad, and I learned from your grade school
psychologist, when he explained triangulation within our family. At that time, you were using this
dynamic to pit one parent against the other. ( As leaders, we are extremely vulnerable to being
triangulated and it s very unhealthy for the unity of a company. Triangulation involves a cast of three
characters, the villain, the victim and the rescuer. If you are constantly fixing relational problems that
others should fix for themselves you are probably being triangulated ).
Through the depths of the challenge one breaks through and accepts people for all of their usual,
normal, characteristic selves. When there is no empathy for one s perception of

How Did Gregor Mendel Cause Death
Gregor Johann Mendel
Born: 22 July 1822
Birthplace: Hynice, Czechia
Location of death Brno, Czechia
Cause of death: unspecified
Remains: Buried, Central Cemetery, Brno, Czechia Gregor s parents were farmers. His father s name
was Anton and his father was known as Rosine. He had two sister their names were Veronica and
Theresia. He was a brilliant student in grade school but it became harder to get money to put him in
school. When he couldn t get in a university he gave up and became a Central European monk. Gregor
while he was a monk tried to become a high school teacher and failed the exam twice but was still
allowed to work part time as a teacher. While tending the the gardens in the monastery as a monk
Mendel became very interested in the pea plants. Mendel picked pea plants because they grew easily,
reproduced in large numbered, and their reproduction can be manipulated. They also had both female
and male reproduction organs. He then began doing scientific experiments on the pea plants. Even

a trait may not show up in an individual but can still be passed on to the next generation. Independent
assortment of genes and their corresponding traits was first observed by Gregor Mendel in 1865
during his studies of genetics in pea plants. Two identical forms one has two yellows the other has two
greens. The principle of segregation and the principle of independent assortment. Some biologists
refer to Mendel s principles as laws . Most of the leading scientists in the 19th century accepted this

Essay Comparing Louise of Story of an Hour and Nora of A...
Comparing Louise of The Story of an Hour and Nora of A Doll s House
In Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour, the main character is a woman who has been controlled and
conformed to the norms of society. Louise Mallard has apparently given her entire life to assuring her
husband s happiness while forfeiting her own. This truth is also apparent in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s
House. In this story, Nora Helmer has also given her life to a man who has very little concern for her
feelings or beliefs. Both of these characters live very lonely lives, and both have a desire to find out
who they really are and also what they are capable of becoming. Although the characters of Nora and
Louise are very much alike in many ways, their personalities ... Show more content on

She seems to feel resentment toward the fact that he has not loved and cherished her throughout the
course of their marriage. Louise s thoughts continue to build as she thinks to herself There would be
no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which men and women believe they have
a right to impose a private will upon a fellow creature (23). This statement shows how he has held her
back from expressing herself as a person and has forced his strong will upon her with which to obey.
Nora has also been forced to conform to her role in society. She has conformed to playing the role of a
caring housewife and mother. Her husband Torvald keeps a tight reign on her and makes sure that she
behaves only as he pleases. In one instance, he detects that Nora has not been truthful with him. He
remarks, My little song bird must never do that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp
with?no false notes (761)! This remark allows the audience to understand how much control he has
over Nora. Throughout this story, Mr. Helmer maintains an arrogant attitude and expects Nora to
always agree with him. In one instance, Nora remarks to him, But don t you think it is nice of me too,
to do as you wish? Torvald responds, Nice??because you do as your husband wishes? Well, well, you
little rogue, I am sure you did not mean it in that way (761). Nora s feelings are constantly repressed
and regarded as unimportant to Torvald. He admits that he

5. Evaluation
Accuracy of results
There is always some degree of inaccuracy in any experiment. I think that there were several factors in
my experiment that made the results slightly inaccurate. These were;
#61623; The time taken to place the bung on the flask – This let out a small amount of carbon dioxide
into the atmosphere instead of the gas syringe.
#61623; Weighing and measuring inaccuracy s – The weighing of the marble chips will always be
slightly inaccurate due to the scales inaccuracy. This is the same with the measuring of acid.
#61623; The size of the marble chips – The size of the marble chips was not always the same, some
were larger or smaller than others. This would have made for a slight inaccuracy.
Reliability
No significant problems or difficulties were encountered when carrying out this experiment. The
accuracy and reliability of the results and conclusions are very good. Even though I have outlined the
inaccuracy s of the experiment, these are only t be expected and do not have much impact on the
overall conclusion.
Improvements
The procedure used was simple and straightforward and not many difficulties were encountered. One
difficulty was that the gas syringe was subject to humidity which made the syringe move not as
smoothly as it would have otherwise. A small improvement could be

The Second Alliance And The Triple Entente
The time leading up to the first world war was a time of make alliances. These alliances started out as
small agreements between countries turned into a force that divided the major powers of Europe into

these alliances help to pave the way to the war. The first of these alliances that was formed was the
Triple Alliance. It was formed in secrecy in may of 1882. This alliance was made up of Germany,
Austria Hungary, and Italy. (Kann) Although Germany and Austria hungary were allies before the
formation of the Triple Alliance, Italy was not added into the Alliance until they wanted assistance
with France. France at this time beat out Italy in obtain some of North Africa. (Britanica) The terms of
this alliance were that if Italy was ever attacked by France, Germany and Austria Hungary would
come to its assistance. It also stated that, if Germany was attacked by France then Italy would come in
to help them. Finally they agreed that Italy would have to stay neutral if Austria Hungary ever got into
a war with Russia. The alliance was renewed again in the february of 1887. This time, in addition to
the agreements that were already made, Germany told Italy that it would help them in North Africa (
even though they never had any intentions of doing so). Germany also convinced Austria Hungary to
continue their alliance with Italy even during the dispute over land they were

Student Learning Philosophy
Educators are always looking for ways to help students learn. Students do not all learn the same, there
are four primary learning styles visual, auditory, kinesthetic (hands on) and read write. More ways a
student s experience information, the more like the student are to retain it. Different media activate
different areas of the mind, and students recall things more quickly and retain information better when
multiple parts of the brain are working together. Students working groups are more productive,

Essay On Perspective Of The Source
The perspective of the source is one of that can really fluctuate based on beliefs and cultures that have
been brought up by an individual. The idea based on the source all depends on the circumstances that
it is in. In some situations it will bring good things but in other s, it will bring nothing but harm. All
countries being able to be unrestricted and free to pursue it s own goals can bring wealth and
strengthen a country in all the good ways. However when this becomes to readily available to
countries that are already well off, it can cause a hunger for power and greediness which will then
avoid the whole purpose about what giving a country the freedom to grow and better itself without
restrictions. If two countries benefit from this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Addition to this Great Brittan had no harm done to it and actually had gained another ally to
themselves, which is a good thing for a country to have. Breaking away from Great Brittan allowed
Canada to grow with lots of people and diversity, which allowed for a different culture and
atmosphere for the country. Canada breaking away from Great Brittan is a huge part of our history and
culture still today, and we have very many British features to our country like the Royal Family, the
queen is still all over our currency. This type of National Interest is one that caused nothing but good
for both countries involved and is an example of this sort of National Interest working.
Another perspective that had a good outcome is Canada being involved with the War in Afghanistan.
Canada was able to extend its hand and help Afghanistan in a time of crisis. Afghanistan is a very poor
country and has very harsh weather conditions. In order to help Canada served in the Afghanistan
Theater of operations. This allowed general living standards for Afghanistan citizens, and helped some
parts of the country out of extreme poverty. This National Interest is one that helped to benefit one
country and the other country involved didn t loose anything in terms of it s countries well being,
however they did loose lots of soldiers which causes a lot of grief to many families.

Recruitment refers to the process of finding possible candidates for a job or function, undertaken by
recruiters. It may be undertaken by an employment agency or a member of staff at the business or
organization looking for recruits. Either way it may involve advertising, commonly in the recruitment
section of a newspaper or in a newspaper dedicated to job adverts. Employment agencies will often
advertise jobs in their windows. Posts can also be advertised at a job centre if they are targeting the
unemployed. Suitability for a job is typically assessed by looking for skills, e.g. communication skills,
typing skills, computer skills. Evidence for skills required for a job may be

Resource Depletion And Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Lifecycle Analysis
Background
The content of analysis will examine paper. It will look at the harvesting of the materials, production,
distribution, and finally the waste. This lifecycle analysis is to explain a consumer product s life from
production to waste. This is to show the environmental effects that the products has during its life
time. A few of the environmental impacts that will be focused on is resource depletion and greenhouse
gas emissions. These were chosen because of the chain reaction they can cause. Greenhouse gases are
known to be linked to climate change, which is a global problem so the impacts of these emissions are
on a very large scale. Resource depletion is another problem because more than one species rely on
forest. Therefore, the depletion of it is not only bad to humans but the other organisms that use it for
their survival. If this resource was to be completely used up, then it could lead to a loss of biodiversity
which could be bad for the local ecosystem. In addition, since some ecosystems are linked together the
loss of one could have a huge effect on another causing a domino effect. LCA Inventory Trees are a
good source of paper; there are other materials that can work but for the scope of this paper I ll only
focus on trees. As described in figure 1, the first step is to harvest the trees. To do this, usually heavy
machinery or chainsaws are employed to do the cutting. But this process

Credit Card And Credit Cards
Being invited by the president of Joliet Junior College to help students who are being lured by credit
predators on the myth that getting a credit card helps people to build their credits. We will use this
opportunity to educate the audience on the concept of credit cards and its responsible use in order to
avoid its snares. Furthermore, we plan on assisting the audience to gain insight on the rationale behind
building good credit through borrowing. According to Tim Chen, the author of American Household
Credit Card Debt, an article published in the year 2015, the average student loan debt is $31,946. He
also states that there s a total of $1.19 trillion in debt for student loans, which have increased 5.9%
from last year. In this paper, we will discuss the myth of how students are being lured by credit card
predators by assuming that getting a credit card helps people build their credits. We will also use this
opportunity to define the concept of credit card and its responsible use in order to avoid its snares.
Furthermore, alert the audience of other ways to build credit such as through borrowing and getting
students loan in less interest rate from the bank.

The Criminal Behaviour Of Jeffrey Dahmer
Introduction Within the various fields of criminology, the examination of the reasoning behind why
individuals commit crime is important in modern debates regarding how crime should be controlled
and prevented. Over the years, numerous theories have developed and continue to be explored both
individually and collectively. Some of the most significant theories with regards to the criminal
behaviour of Jeffrey Dahmer include: rational choice theory, attachment theory, differential
association theory, biosocial theory and social control theory. This assignment will focus solely on
social control theory and how it relates to the case of Jeffrey Dahmer. Social Control Theory Social
control theory is used to help one understand and reduce levels of criminal activity. It is based upon
the idea that an individual s basic belief system, morals, values, commitments and relationships foster
a lawful environment. Most individuals who possess these values and beliefs tend to have a level of
self control over their actions and are consequently prepared to remain on the correct side of the law.
Furthermore, social control theory is used to examine how society can influence criminal behaviour. It
also emphasizes the idea that when an individual is involved and in touch with their community, they
are less likely to commit acts of delinquency. In 1969, social control theory was developed by Travis
Hirschi. This theory has also been known to be called the social bond theory when

What is corporate strategy? Corporate strategy is a complete plan of action encompassing all the
activities and functions performed by business firms. The plan covers all the objectives of the
company related to the allocation of resources and coordination among different levels. Corporate
Strategy as a framework began to be developed in the 60 s and the 70 s where for the first time
companies had to think in a systematic and integrated way about their costs, competitors and their
customers. In the mid 80 s and beginning of 90 s, corporate strategy started to focus on process
engineering, re engineering, thinking more systematically about world wide expansion and therefore
globalisation but at the same time it also focused on a more granular aspect and migrated down to the
industry by industry. Nowadays, corporate strategy is about participating in different business units
and is defined as a process of diversification across structurally different industries. It is about
participating in multiple businesses grouped under a corporate parent and creating common strategic

Erich Honecker s Monetary Union
After World War II West Germany and East Germany were divided , the West side being separated
into French, American, and British sections. The East was given entirely to the Soviet Union. After
people were flooding out of the country to escape the vengeful Soviets, they decided to put up a wall
around the Allied section of Berlin in 1961. After some time, the Allied Powers decided to reunify
West Germany and bring massive amounts of money into the country. After The Berlin Wall fell in
1989, which allowed for people to escape into the prospering West Germany. The Soviet Union fell
soon after in 1991. While all this was happening in the world, a very significant event was appearing

time) for every child born. Free meals were also provided in these child care systems. As a result of
these policies, there were many more working mothers in the East than in the West. In the East
recycling was encouraged, because of lack of raw materials. When children collected bottles, scrap
metal, or paper. They got paid for their labors, but unfortunately As soon as the GDR agency in charge
of recycling stopped paying in 1990, the volume of materials it collected sharply dropped by 90
percent. Soon after, it was forced to close all 16,000 recycling centers and fire 11,000 staff. Life in the
West was flourishing, a lot of new businesses came about, new democratically elected leaders brought
about new social and economic policies. People were allowed to travel where they wished, unlike their
Eastern Counterparts, who couldn t travel into the West. One of the effects after the breakdown of the
socialist regime in East Germany and the reunification of the two German states in the 1990, was the

  • 2. How Is The Berlin Wall Related To The Civil Rights Movement Linda Dossantos 11/20/2014 GLS102: Comparative Politics and Government Opinion Paper #2 The U.S. Civil Rights Movements and the East German Struggle for Freedom The Berlin Wall was a physical division that separated West Berlin and East Berlin in Germany from 1961 to 1989 during the Cold War. The wall was a symbolic boundary that divided Democracy and Communism physically. The Berlin Wall displayed the different ideologies between two government systems, how they worked and what the people thought about them. On November 9th 1989, the Berlin Wall finally came down and transformed from a symbol of Cold War communist oppression to an icon of freedom and revolution. It was a very important event in history that displayed change and brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those who lived Eastern Berlin not only had to face communist oppression but the wall s practical significance was that it stopped them from leaving their homes and seeking a better life in the West. Similar to the events that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Civil Rights Movement that occurred mostly down south in the United States, also show people coming together to fight for a common goal and stop oppression. The black American Civil Rights Movement embraces social movements whose goals were to end racial segregation and discrimination against black Americans. Similar to the fall of the Berlin wall, the civil rights movement is one of the defining events in history providing an example of people fighting for the ideals of justice, equality and freedom. The Civil Rights Movement was very important to the history of the United States as it established that discrimination was unjust and would no longer be accepted in the country, while setting an example for oppressed people everywhere in the world. The Berlin wall defined a loss of human rights and people came together to bring the wall down, just like the civil rights movement brought black American together to walk for ... • 3. Gluten Free Diet And Gluten Food The Gluten free diet, a shitshow Gluten free, it has become the blazing slogan on the majority of food items, including food items that never had gluten to begin with, such as water. This push towards ridding our diets of grains has become extremely mainstream, but is this diet as healthy as it has been made out to be? While there can be some benefits to the gluten free diet, there is a lot of scientific evidence that suggests that products containing gluten are a staple of a healthy diet. Even though a gluten free diet may be medically necessary for some, the gluten free products available on the market are very expensive. Ultimately, the only people who truly benefit from gluten free diets are those who have been diagnosed with celiac disease or non celiac gluten sensitivity. The people who do choose to partake in the gluten free diet who do not have a pre existing medical condition should consult their doctor before altering their diet. When I was attending primary school, maladies such as non celiac gluten sensitivity did not exist. Fast forward to the year 2016, and I can name at least five people who are gluten free. The popularity of the gluten free diet has grown, with, approximately 30% of the US population adhering to a gluten free diet (Linda Johanson, 2015). Why is it that so much of the US population has adopted a gluten free diet? According to the American Journal of Cardiology (AJC), this trend has been fueled by, ...recent best selling books that warn of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This comprises the removal or reduction of both liabilities and surcharges and non tariff complications (like licensing rules, quotas and other requirements). The simplification of these restrictions is often referred to as promoting trade liberation. (Investopedia. (Investopedia. LLC, 2015) 2. Trade liberation in India The Indian economy has entered a level of high growth in the current years, after a long period of little growth. As the economic growth is not sufficient to achieve any developments, the policy makers shifted the concern towards making the growth of the economy through a method where employment is at its fundamental. 3. • 5. The Death With Dignity Essay In 1997 Oregon passed the Physical Assisted Suicide (PAS) called the Death with Dignity. PAS would provide terminal ill patients who desired to end their life with access to a lethal dose of medication. In order for a patient to get access to the lethal dose of medicine in Oregon: they must be 18 years or older, able to understand, verbalize the consequences, and be a resident of the state. Terminal ill patients have been medically diagnosed of living six month or less. If a patient in Oregon wants to commit suicide there would be a 15 day waiting period between the doctor s agreement and the issuance of the prescription (The Times). PAS is not only legal in Oregon, but also in Washington, Vermont, New Mexico, and Montana. More than 70% of Californians support the legalization of PAS and no bill has been introduced since 2007. American culture has been emphasized that citizens of the United States have the rights and freedoms to make personal decisions. PAS needs to be legalized in California so terminally ill patients suffering from physical and emotional pain legally end their life. Despite religious groups disapproval of physician assisted suicide, some patients may suffer emotional distress due to their physical state. A reason many people may disagree on assisted suicide is that people s religious beliefs are against the practice. Religious institutions believe an individual should not commit suicide, instead they need to die as a result of their illness. Roman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are ways to mitigate the risk of starting a business and ways to save one that is failing. Eastman Kodak Company is a large multinational company that has recently filed for bankruptcy. Exploring what has gone wrong with their business plan and how their competitor Fuji Films has gotten that equation right can help larger corporations like them in the future. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fujifilm began investing millions into developing digital cameras, Kodak decided to upgrade the 35mm film to a proprietary Advanced Photo System. Kodak had invented digital cameras in the 1970 s however they resisted introducing it to the market because they believed it would kill their film sales. When the market changed to digital cameras and photo printers Kodak then found that they had gotten left in the dust by Fujifilm and other companies (Gordon, 2013). Fujifilm s management on the other hand was quick to adapt to the changing market conditions. By creating a plan that allowed them to continue what they were doing in the film camera industry for as long as possible, and to start moving over to the digital camera industry to keep forward and looking outside of their normal consumer market for other ways to stay in the eyes of the consumers. One of the most important moves that Fujifilm made was staying with what they already knew they were good at and began learning how to adapt it to other markets arenas. Fujifilm unlike Kodak transformed from a fairly narrow photographic supplier into a diversified company with significant health care and electronics operations. They looked into more than just simply moving to digital photography from analog. They tapped into its chemical expertise for more uses, such as drugs and liquid crystal display panels. • 7. The Old Testament Prophets Introduction: Haggai is the prophet that tethers the Old Testament Prophets to second temple Judiasm and New Testament Christianity. The man himself is covered in mystery and intrigue. Who is this prophet that comes on the scene and vanishes as fast as he appears? The context is in a time when the Israelites are back in the land YWHW promised, yet things feel much different. The temple is not yet in construction and the Judeans are having trouble with the indigenous Samaritans. Haggai has a challenge, but he is just the man for the job, and YWH has called him for just the time as this. Haggai The person: Little is known of the prophet Haggai. The name Haggai means feast of Yahweh or by contraction, Hagariah means Yahweh hath girded. This leads scholars to believe that he was born on a feast day. Another theory is that the writer of the book recorded Haggai s prophecies later, and like Malachi, gave him a nickname because he prophesied on feast days. He prophesied for a very short time. Haggai 1:15 record the dates of Haggai s prophetic ministry. He prophesied in the Second year of King Darius (521 486), in the year 520 from August 29th to December 18th. These 15 short weeks make up one of the smallest prophetic ministries in the prophetic books. We also know Haggai existed through other biblical and extra biblical sources. The book of Ezra contains passages mentioning Haggai initiating the reconstruction of the temple (Ezra 5:1, Ezra 6:14 15). He is documented in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exports versus goods produced and sold in a foreign country As indicated in International trade (2013): International trade opens foreign markets to goods produced in the United States, including billions of dollars in Caterpillar machines, engines and parts produced by our U.S. employees. In 2007, thanks to growing demand around the world, Caterpillar s U.S. exports reached $12.7 billion and helped to provide jobs for tens of thousands of Caterpillar and supplier employees in the United States. (p. 1) Conversely, Caterpillar does obtain international plants abroad. They have leveraged this opportunity to gain market share by producing a low cost product with unsurpassed quality. If exporting was their only option, maintaining competitiveness through a low cost product may not be possible due to their overseas competition. As described above, increased tariffs on imported goods drives cost to the product. If the product and its raw materials are made in the host country, tariffs will be eliminated. However, if a fixed exchange rate was negotiated and labor in the home country was less expensive than the possible host country than importation could be further considered. If the cost to produce goods at home and a fixed exchange rate could drive the home country to export. I do that sometimes, especially with girls like Elizabeth Bennet. Elizabeth Bennet and I are similar because we are brave, strong and have many sisters. Elizabeth Bennet and I are similar because we are both brave and gallant. In the movie Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Elizabeth Bennet stands up for what she wants no matter what even if it means her getting judged as a result. She is also brave because she was willing to run into a swarm of zombies to save someone, even if it meant her death, which she knew. I am just as courageous as her because when my friend was being picked on in front of the whole school I was the one who stood up for them, even though I knew in my mind that I could be judged by everyone because I knew that I was a good person for that and I didn t care what anyone else thought of me. ... ADPIE stands for assessment, diagnosis, patient plan, implementation and evaluation of the implementations. It was a very structured approach that has to be completed in the SBAR or ADPIE format. It had to be done in order and each area had to be completed. There was no creative approach allowed. Spiritualty was never part of any aspect of the process. There were times when as a student, I did the SBAR or ADPIE format and I would be marked down for adding information that was not on the checklist or if I left out a portion of a particular section. For example, if the patient did not have chest tubes and I did not state the patient had no tubes, I was marked down. If I added the patients spiritual needs in the format it would be crossed out because it did not fit the checklist. The nursing approach that was used in our program was based on theory we learned in lecture. We wrote care plans that included an assessment, structural variables, nursing diagnosis, goals, nursing interventions and evaluations. We were marked down if the interventions didn t match the nursing diagnosis or if there was insufficient assessments made to come up with a nursing diagnosis or goal. There was no delegation or leadership involved with our approach. It was structured and specific with little ability to vary from a nursing care approach that was taught. We have no method of measuring Siri* s level of understanding outside of the Turing test, which Searle rejects as an accurate measurement of linguistic understanding. And again, he also rejects the idea that any electronic machine can possess such understanding whatsoever, so Siri* s response is essentially meaningless. Part D: Answering to Amy In response to Amy s initial question, it would be unwise to immediately present either Turing s or Searle s answer as a correct response. Similarly, it would be unwise to declare a winning philosophy in this scenario, as the correct philosophy depends on the correct judging criteria, which we lack. Clearly, if Siri* is a person, or judged to be a person based on certain criteria, then Turing is correct in his assessment; Amy should punish her child. If Siri* is not a person, then Searle is correct, and Amy would not have significant reason for punishment. But in this scenario, no judgment criteria are explicitly being applied, nor is one school of thought clearly more appropriate than the other. The Legacy Of The Olympic Games Kyle Walsh History 261 Adam Johnson 3 April 2015 The Salute Seen Around the World For nearly as long as humans have been around, some form of athletic competition has also existed. Dating back to the ancient Romans, people would travel from all around to see their men compete. Since 1894, the International Olympic Committee has organized the worldwide event we know as the modern Olympic Games. The games have for a long time been a center point of many protests, revolving around the current events and arguments of the time. American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos created one of the most iconic and socially important Olympic protests at the 1968 Summer Games, when they raised their fists up while giving the Black Panther salute on the podium. A gesture that has been celebrated, criticized, and discussed to this day. The Olympic Games are one of the most followed events in the world. As the games grew in popularity and viewership, thanks to the improvements of technology throughout the 20th Century, these protests became more recognizable. The Olympics create an international platform with one of the largest viewing audiences of any TV event, making it very easy to send ones message to many nations. However, theory suggests that by doing the same type of multitasking tasks, it would be too strenuous to remember what you just did since both activities were almost the same. This research paper aims to evaluate how the same type of multitasking affects the memory of humans. Data from twenty seven people were collected in which they had to perform two types of multitasking activities and take a test to see how much they could remember. Overall, people are more easily distracted if they tend to multi task often. Many scientists dispel the idea that multitasking is in fact an efficient way of getting things done. For example, in a study conducted by Clapp, Rubens, Sabbharwal, and Gazzaley (2011) concluded that, multiple tasks increase task difficulty/complexity, resource capacity limitations, increased crosstalk conflict, and greater bottleneck processing limitations. This shows that there is a plethora of research done to prove the ineffectiveness of multitasking. Yet research done in 2013 by Shih reveals, behavioural and brain research suggests that multitasking is challenging and often stressful and unproductive. Negative Effects Of Running Marathons For most, running 26.2 miles just for fun is not appealing; however, others do want to run marathons for the excitement of a race or to prove to themselves that they can do it. For many reasons, runners are on board to hit the pavement, whether it is for the challenge or for the numerous health benefits that come along with it, including weight loss and fitness. Because of the positive effects of running, the negative aspects of running long distances are sometimes overlooked. Before deciding to just get up one day and start training for a marathon, know that running this lengthy race has both desirable and undesirable physical consequences. Often, running is a route to weight loss and, thus, motivates individuals to get out and exercise, to burn calories. The activity does burn calories. For example, running at a 6 mph pace burns 372 calories in 30 minutes for a 155 pound person, according to Andrea Cespedes a freelance wellness expert. However, since calories are needed for performance during long runs, one must increase calorie intake to fuel the run, especially if the runner s mileage is lengthy (Cespedes). In addition, some uneducated runners believe that the exercise can be an excuse to eat unhealthy food, saying that their running makes up for what they eat. This, however, is a myth because often the calories are empty and do not promote general health. You ran 10 miles, therefore you deserve the fries, shake and burger. An inextricable belief in fate centers this bitter epistemological com ëment. In Hamlet s world, birth alone is a telling reason and excuse for tainted character (1.4.24 26, 1.5.91). But heaven takes part as well; there s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow (5.2.230 231). Taken together, this realization of inequity and the apparently long understood mechanism of biological predestination, are staggering to Horatio s sweet prince. If such biological predestination is true, then how should Hamlet understand the base actions of his family members and of himself? Either his family are impostors to nobility or this idea of predestination is faulty. The play gives ample evidence of a prince who has long dallied in philosophy and seldom lived in the world. Indeed, the transparent nonsense that a person may not exceed his birth is indicative of this. Like Joyce s Stephen Dedalus, Hamlet glamorizes death through his sable clothes. In addition, Dr. Parenti believes that on the date Wallace wrote a letter about a remarkable observation he made, the field of modern biogeography began. Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Moral The central concept of Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Morals is the categorical imperative. The conception of an objective principle, in so far as it is obligatory for a will, is called a command (of reason), and the formula of the command is called an Imperative. (Abbott, 30) An imperative is something that a will ought or shall do because the will is obligated to act in the manner in which it conforms with moral law. Kant uses four examples to better describe the working of the categorical imperative in Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Morals. The first example is of a man who is suffering from many misfortunes in life and wishes to commit sucicide on the basis of self love. Kant declares that this cannot be the categorical imperative at work because the maxim derived from self love, to shorten his life to avoid more pain, is a contradiction in itself for no man can kill himself painlessly and therefore cannot be a universal maxim. The action of killing oneself would cause pain, which is not in conformity to the maxim stated to avoid pain. The second example Kant gives is based on the basic premise of lying. A man is forced to borrow money which he knows he will never be able to repay but he promises to do so anyway. This action is not consistent with duty and the maxim could be expressed as: When I [the man] think myself in want of money, I will borrow money and promise to repay it, although I know that I never can do so. (Abbott, 39) The maxim cannot hold as a universal law because if everyone lied about promises, the promise itself would become impossible, and the end would be unattainable. When differing opinions from two separate parties meet often solutions can only benefit one group, where both cannot be satisfied. A relevant business story with an ethical dilemma is the french food waste bill, that has come into law earlier this year. This is an illustration of how one ethical value has overcome another in order for government to deal with the national food waste. In this report we will be analysing the decisions and actions of the main actors Arash Derambarsh and Guillaume Garot and how their ethical view s affected the government s actions on edible food waste. In the early 2000 s, Derambarsh began his law degree and found it increasingly difficult to feed himself and it was very common for students who had only four hundred euros a month after rent to find themselves hungry. 2010, Derambarsh started to grow awareness towards hunger in France, so he started campaigning against the wastage of food in his local area (Froelich, 2015). He now represents the Paris Commune of Courbevoie and believes that edible food being wasted is, scandalous and absurd , when there are still hungry citizens in France needing this such as the homeless, poor and unemployed (Froelich, 2015). By making reverse discrimination we are not making thing better, we are just sweeping the issue under the rug so to speak. When we reverse discrimination we just force people to meet a quota . In his paper he points out that, a company policy not itself is designed to keep blacks out nevertheless, does exactly that. (pg. 272) Companies do not have policies that say no black allowed. It has been argued that she wished to return England to the state in which her father left it Catholicism without the Pope. It is clear that her brother, Edward VI, also heavily influenced her, as the final religious settlement was in fact very similar to his doctrinal Reformation. Brando s massive girth is all the more ironic for those familiar with Heart of Darkness who recall Conrad s description: I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the bones of his arms waving. They imagine how amazing and fun a life filled with jokes and no rules would be. Not even having to go to school if you did not want to. Except this is not how life works. When a parent dies and the reality sets in, it quickly shows us that life is not all fun and games. The death of a parent is a devastating reality for any young child to bare. This abrupt reality may have long lasting effects as each child has their own unique way of perceiving life s events. In the blink of an eye ones world may be completely twisted around. Another type of death is one by tragedy that can be unexpected and can be more devastating than prolonged death in that it occurs suddenly and without notice. More often than not parents die unexpectedly and their children are left behind in a big scary world with no guidelines on how to survive. In part this is because parents do not expect to die while their child or children are still young. Planning ahead for the future can be difficult for parents emotionally as well as culturally and in some cases even financially. Initially when a parent dies it seems as if they have all the support in the world by people who love them. Most people seem to think that after a year or more children should be well adjusted, happy and have made it through their traumatic loss. A child s perspective may seem different in fact they may feel more alone. A child named Abby had this to say about that topic The pain got worse! Because the initial shock wears off, people stop coming to your house, and you are left....with yourself (Simon, Johnson 49). What most people do not realize is that they still are not okay. No one can completely prepare for the unknown when a child loses a parent no one can predict how each child will grieve. The caretaker of the child who is grieving has the responsibility of trying to understand the child s thoughts or questions. The Role Of Medical Experiments In The Holocaust When most people think of the holocaust, they think of people being forced into concentration camps, they think of Jews and Nazis, they think of cruelty and death. But what most people don t think of, is all the experiments that went on, all the medical experiments. The Nazi doctors wanted to find cures for medical conditions that most everyone wanted to cure, but these doctors went about finding the cure a little differently. They would take prisoners they had and experiment on them in ways of cruelty hard to even imagine. This will only be about one of the many experiments done, the freezing and hypothermia experiments. Doctor Sigmund Rascher was the one overseeing this particular experiment, he mainly conducted the experiments at Dachau (Holocaust on Trial http://www.pbs.org). He used over 300 hundred people in his experiments, all of them prisoners in the concentration camps and all of them young, strong Jews and/or Russians(Jewish Law Articles http://www.jlaw.com) . Why the American Civil War lasted for longer than 90 days The North had expected their war with the south to last for no more than 90 days. They not only had more men up in the north but they had more resources as well. Now why couldn t they defeat the south? I have to say it is due to the incompetence of the north s generals commanding the army, and the army itself. On April 15, 1861, President Lincoln called on the states to provide 75,000 militia men for 90 days to put down the rebellion of the south. On the other hand, the south had the state of Virginia on its side; this gave them a better chance of victory. It was the home of Robert E. At the beginning of the five hour battle the Union soldiers had the Confederates on the retreat, except for one brigade commanded by General Jackson. Due to Jackson s ability to hold his ground and his stubbornness, the men saw him and his militia to resemble a stone wall; hence he earned the nickname Stonewall Jackson. Thanks to Jackson the Confederates were able to hold out until General Johnston showed up with 9000 reinforcements to help out General Beauregard. The arrival changed the course of the battle and soon the Union soldiers were fleeing back to Washington. However, because of the disorganization of Beauregard s army, they could not pursue McDowell any further. The casualties soared to 2,900 killed, wounded, captured, or missing for McDowell s army and 2,000 for Beauregard s. Unarguably, the purpose of this non fiction story is to persuade the readers of the horrifying injustice of subjecting a convict to the death penalty. As this reflective paper shall present, throughout the short story, the author intelligently uses irony and sarcasm to manipulate the mood of the audience thereby convincing the readers of his criticism of capital punishment and the barbaric administration of justice in the Burma prisons. Some of the most significant theories with regards to the criminal behaviour of Jeffrey Dahmer include: rational choice theory, attachment theory, differential association theory, biosocial theory and social control theory. This assignment will focus solely on social control theory and how it relates to the case of Jeffrey Dahmer. It is based upon the idea that an individual s basic belief system, morals, values, commitments and relationships foster a lawful environment. Most individuals who possess these values and beliefs tend to have a level of self control over their actions and are consequently prepared to remain on the correct side of the law. Furthermore, social control theory is used to examine how society can influence criminal behaviour. It also emphasizes the idea that when an individual is involved and in touch with their community, they are less likely to commit acts of delinquency.
