Management Study at a Library Essay examples
Introduction Management, as defined by Daft and Marcic, is the effective and efficient attainment of
organizational goals, through planning, organizing, leading and controlling organizational resources.
This community service organizational study has allowed our group to extend our learning outside the
classroom and apply management theories to the real world. The site that we volunteered at was the
Venice Library. Upon first arriving, our team thought that it was going to be a struggle to try and
observe real life managerial workings at a library as compared to the other non profits. However, we
were gladly surprised at the amount of managerial applications and theories that we were able to see
first hand. We were able to identify ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The libraries of Los Angeles are divided up according to region. Venice Beach Library is part of the
West Branches, which are managed by the West LA Library Branch Manager. This manager receives
orders and guidelines to follow from the head office. Next in the line of command, is the head
librarian. The head librarian is responsible to the West Branch manager. Within the library itself and
helping the head librarian, are four other librarians. Each librarian is in charge of ordering and locating
books, outreach programs and reading circles. Underneath them are the clerks. The clerks are assigned
to a particular librarian to take care of daily tasks such as counting the cash, checking return boxes and
deliveries, and reshelving books. Finally, the lowest in the task force are the messenger clerks, who
are part time employees who also work with particular librarians. Each position is assigned specific
tasks and assignments. The workplace is best represented by the New Workplace, which offers flatter,
more diverse and team centralized management. In terms of management, the head librarian serves as
a better leader by facilitating self management with better and more open communication lines. The
communication is two sided and the head librarian when delegating tasks is very responsive and
provides an open environment where questioned are welcomed. There is also strong team association
built into the structure.

The Marble Source Of Phhosphorus To Lake Michigen
There could be a hypothetical leak into lake michigan. All of the great lakes are connected so the leak
from lake erie is able to travel to any other body of water i tis connected to. In order for the leak to
travel to lake michigan the chemicals would have to travel through Lake Huron first. This is a large
lake and it would take a while to get to Lake Michigan through lake Huron. Even though there is a
great distance between Lake Michigan and Lake Erie, the Phosphorus could definitely travel through
Lake Huron overtime. Not only are the chemicals able to be transported through lake heron, but it can
also be transported through the underground water like the water tables. Therefore, this plant should

The second sculpture would be the one in the best condition in 100 years.
The school that would have the best view for the observation tower would be Northview Elementary
school. This school has an elevation above sea level of 835 feet. Benjamin Franklin Middle School
has an elevation of 796 feet above sea level. Hayes Leonard Elementary school has an elevation of
728 above sea level. As seen in these elevations, Northview would have the highest view point, with
the added 40 feet of the observation tower, for the children to view the weather patterns and clouds.
Scenario 2
The more difficult route of the two routes would be the one that starts 10 miles upstream and ends up
back in the town of Jim Thorpe. The elevation at the starting point of the more difficult route is 765
feet and the ending point is 524 feet. The distance is 10 miles which means the gradient is 24.1 feet
per mile. The less difficult routes starting point elevation is 522 feet and ending point is 386 feet. The
distance was again 10 miles, this means the gradient is 13.6 feet per mile. Gradient is found by taking
the lower elevation and subtract that from the upper elevation, then divide the difference by the
distance. The route traveling to the town of Jim Thorpe has larger gradient which means the water in
this path will flow faster. The faster the water flows the more difficult the path is. Therefore the more
difficult path would be the path starting upstream and traveling

Immigration Law And Family Law
The areas of Immigration Law and Family Law are so intertwined it is almost counterintuitive to
speak of Immigration without any mention of family. Immigration for the most part involves families;
to separate them is a divisive move of excommunication. This is the exact reason why Homeland
Security established the H1 fiancée visa. The H1 fiancé visa can expedite the waiting period for
immigration. Essentially an individual can claim that their fiancé resides in the United States and that
he/she intends to get married in the United States upon their arrival. These fast track options have
opened the floodgates for abuse with little to no safe guards in place. I believe this must change.
Recently I volunteered to help on a pro bono case involving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We proved that immigration abuse amongst family members was not only common, but also expected
of their U.S citizen counterparts. Despite this, we were able to secure a court order voiding the
marriage in the form of an annulment, and not a divorce. The Islamic magistrate would not dare defy a
court order stating such. This in turn, forced the Islamic Court to recognize the Court Ordered
Annulment and voided the Islamic marriage contract. Also, Homeland Security finally recognized that
the marriage was a farce and acknowledged that there was immigration abuse at hand, thereby
revoking the status of the fiancé visa.
Working side by side with an attorney on this matter has given me a unique perspective of foreign
family dynamics and if combined with the U.S Family Law, I truly believe I can make a difference

Cain Cain s Life Essay
Cain Cain grew up as the very first child in the world. He was the son of Adam and Eve, the
handcrafted creations of God at the beginning of time. Cain grew up with a younger brother named
Abel. He worked as a gardener while Abel was a herdsman. The turning point in Cain s life was
during harvest time when he brought a sacrifice of vegetables to God while his brother brought the
best lamb he had. God accepted Abel s offering but rejected Cain s. This threw Cain into an
uncontrollable rage in which he planned the murder of his brother. Even though God warned Cain to
subdue his evil intentions, Cain murdered his brother. This caused God to curse Cain as an endless
wonderer. Cain s sin was infected into all his descendants to the point of God whipping the slate clean
in a flood only to save Cain s brother s second brother Seth s descendant Noah and his family.
Isaac Isaac was the long anticipated son of Abraham and Sarah. He was the son of the promise in

Sexual Selection Research Paper
Sexual selection means many different things to many different individuals. Some may say that it can
be defined by sex differences and others say that it is primarily the difference in male individuals.
According to Charles Darwin, sexual selection can simply be defined as competition for mates.
Competition for mates, mate choice, and courtship behavior are all closely related and provide
evidence for sexual selection. They are all very common in sexual selection. They help with the
process of evolution.
Male male competition happens frequently in competition for mates. Competition in mates during
sexual selection usually includes males being anxious to compete with one another for access to other
mates, such as females. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sexual behavior and other reproductive characters are the most basic criteria for suspecting sexual
selection in a species of organisms(Leonard, 2006). One organism who provides an example of
courtship behavior includes land snails. Land snails exhibit elaborate courtship behavior by shooting
their partner with a calcareous when mating. The calcareous is about a centimeter long. The long
calcareous is referred to as a love dart. When the snail is shot with the love dart, sperm is released
which can then be released and fertilize the other partner s eggs. This process is an example of a
bizarre sexual behavior. It is labeled as bizarre because it is out of the ordinary and the result from
being shot with the love dart can sometimes be unfortunate. Love darts can sometimes cause
accidental deaths in the snails. They can also ultimately lower the fertility rate of the snail because of
the damage that is done to the body when the dart is inserted. Another example of unusual conduct is
apophallation, which can be found in two different types of slugs. Apophallation is when sexual
intercourse is sometimes ended by the removal of the penis of one or both of the individuals. Studies
have suggested that individuals who exhibit courtship behavior also tend to exhibit aggressive
behavior(Chiver and Schlinger, 2016). Although elaborate and bizarre behavior is common in many

Articles Of Confederation Achievements
Under the Articles of Confederation, the federal government was very weak and unable to
accommodate the nation after declaring its independence (Schultz, 2010). The Articles of
Confederation was a document drafted by the Continental Congress between 1776 and 1777, which
defined the colonies power and authority. Although the Articles were ready for ratification the
following year, it would not go into effect until 1781 after all thirteen states were in agreeance.
Once the Articles were ratified, they made three notable achievements (Schultz, 2010). First, they
showcased that the government consisted of laws that limited its authority. Minimizing the power that
the government wielded was important to the people because they had just escaped rule from Great
Britain. Next, the Articles made it clear that there would be no titles or a class system in the nation,
granting equal rights to all qualifying members. Finally, the Articles of Confederation had
accomplished a functional way of the organization regarding the new lands obtained in the west. ...

First, the Articles required that all states must agree on any bills before becoming law. This is the most
significant flaw because each state had their own distinct needs and interests, it would be challenging
to pass any bill that would be equally beneficial to all thirteen states. For example, the nation was very
much in debt due to the recent war and needed a way to raise funds. Therefore, Congress passed a bill
that would have put a 5 percent tax on all imported goods. However, because the Articles needed full
unanimity, the bill died because Rhode Island was against it as the state depended on imported

Hamlet And Ophelia
In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, there were many important characters just like Hamlet
who show up in more than three fourths of the play; but there are also characters that don t necessarily
show up as much but still have a strong role. One of the characters that didn t get as much screen time
but was still important was Ophelia. Ophelia was a sister, girlfriend, and daughter that so many people
loved. Therefore, Despite the lack of presence of Ophelia, she ultimately played a big role in the lives
of a lot of the characters. Throughout the play, Hamlet and Ophelia have a very strong love
connection. They loved each other and wanted to eventually get married. Hamlet and Ophelia hit some
bumps in the road in their relationship but they always secretly wanted to be together. In Act 1, Scene
3, It was hard for Ophelia to comprehend when Polonius told her that he thought Hamlet s love for her
wasn t real, but she didn t know what to believe. When Hamlet could no longer see Ophelia he began
to get mad a frustrated, to add on also that he was going crazy over his own father s death. Another
time Ophelia was important in Hamlet s life was after not seeing Ophelia for a while Hamlet stumbles
upon a grave site being dug in the middle of the woods, but at the time he doesn t know who for.
When Hamlet find out that Ophelia is the one that is being put to rest he starts to go crazy again. He
says I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers, if you added all their love together, couldn t match
mine. What are you going to do for her? ( V, I, pg.12. lines 247 249). Hamlet is basically trying to say
that even if they don t believe him he really did love Ophelia. Gertrude responded by saying, This is
pure insanity. He ll be like this for a little while (V, I, pg. 12 lines 247 249). When Gertrude says this
she basically means that he has gone crazy before that this is normal he will calm down soon. Therefor
Ophelia played a huge role in Hamlet s life without necessarily being there all of the time. Ophelia and
Laertes also had a very important relationship as brother and sister. Although they didn t get to see
each other all of the time they both played a big role in each other s lives. In Act

Glen Grant Distillery Research Paper
The history of the Glen Grant Distillery starts all the way back in 1820 when the men of the Grant
Clan raided nearby Elgin to free their chief and his family. The Raid on Elgin is the last Scottish revolt
in history. The leader of this revolt, James Grant, and his brother John, ran an unlicensed and illegal
distillery for nearly 20 years when in 1840 they decided to embark on making their dream of creating
a world famous single malt whisky into reality by applying for a license. The site of the Glen Grant
Distillery, in Speyside in the Scottish Highlands, was deemed ideal to make this happen, with the
nearby port of Garmouth, fields of barley surrounding it, and the River Spey to the south. After the
death of both the Grant brothers in 1872, James Grant s son, also called James, inherited the distillery
and took over it s running. Known as a bit of a maverick, he went by the nickname of The Major and
was fascinated by new ideas he was also not afraid to put them into practice. He introduced electric
lighting to the distillery, as well as slender tall stills and purifiers which gave the Glen Grant whisky it

The Theories Of Scientific Naturalism
In society today there are two worldviews that tend to be complete opposites, the ideas of scientific
naturalism against Christianity. These worldviews are incredibly opposite, but there may be areas that
the two opposing sides could meet on. Both views have valid ideas to contribute to the argument. We
strengthen our beliefs through ideological conflict with others. Both view points are strengthened
when compared to each other rather than presented separately with no alternative view to oppose it.
Before we start one question needs to be answered, what is scientific naturalism and what are our
parameters for Christianity. Scientific naturalism relies heavily on scientific observation. The view
claims that everything in the universe can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pentecostal (e.g.keener), Orthodox (e.g.Hart,Swinburne), and Anglican (e.g.Mcgrath) Christian
worldview may disagree in certain areas but they have no difficulty coming together on key points and
in fact, have much more in common than they have in opposition. A Christian worldview recognizes a
higher power that created the universe and is present in it with the capability to manipulate events as
he pleases. This worldview also allows communication with this being. There is an immortal soul in
all of use and a supernatural non physical place where it can reside with God after death. The
scriptures are seen as inspired by the creator God and are records of his influence throughout history
and thus are eye witness accounts of his ability to interact within his creation. Christianity has much to
work with in presenting the argument against Scientific Naturalism. A Christian worldview can
embrace science and use it to its advantage. Christianity gains the upper hand because it can use the
ideas of Scientific Naturalism but is not limited to strict scientific method. There can be a deeper
explanation for events that seem so impossible in a closed universe. Its downfall is that it cannot
remain strictly objective and empirical. It also cannot prove that an unexplainable event took place
due to manipulation from their creator. It could just as easily be hypothesized that the Hindu god

Server Side Hardware Requirements The very first iteration of Xbox Live did not even have a name,
as it was simply a server system set up by Microsoft to allow video game players the ability to play
with other players over the internet. The first Xbox, also known more affectionately as Xbox Original,

estimated to have cost Microsoft $500 million, and was considered by the company to be one of the

Music Essay on Beethoven s Heroic Style
Moira Loh Loh 1 Ms Yang Tien Music Historical Overview 3rd September Beethoven and the heroic

Beethoven s string quartet Op.59 No. 3 where in the system two, a fast, rhythmically and harmonically
dense melody is played and suddenly in the end of system 2 (measure 6) the first violin has a measure

Dispositional Flexibility
With today s Air Force ever changing the demand for flexible and adaptive leadership is crucial for
success. Whether you re in a training environment, home station or deployed it is import to remain
flexible and embrace the process. An Adaptable leader is broken down into three elements: Cognitive
Flexibility, Dispositional Flexibility, and Emotional Flexibility. Course 15 states You must exhibit at
least two of the three characteristics to reach an effective level of adaptability . It is key to not only
comprehend the methods, but properly apply them to be more prepared for what the Air Force throws

The ability to be an adaptive leader and to utilize and apply changes while keeping a positive attitude
is a must. I will display cognitive flexibility by using strategic thinking having multiple plans to cover
any unexpected factors along the along the way. By doing this my supervisors and peers will have
faith in my decision making, while I keep my subordinates on the right track to complete the mission.
I will practice dispositional flexibility by remaining optimistic at all times, encouraging my
subordinates along the way, expressing the importance of the task and inspiring everyone to remain
motivated. This in return will motivate my peers and supervisors, giving them a piece of mind during
stressful or unpredictable situations. Lastly, I will utilize emotional flexibility, to not only manage my
own emotions but the emotions of others. This can require me to take different approaches to
individuals on my team due to multiple personalities. If my subordinates remain emotionally stable
my peers will feel more comfortable working alongside me and my team, thus allowing the leaders to
have complete faith we can complete any task while keeping our emotions under control. By
remaining an adaptable and flexible leader the insight I will have on my leadership, peers, and Airmen

with me because I don t let stress affect my work and my supervisors will entrust me more complex
and important task to complete. Overall making the unit more effective.

Essay on Inherit the Wind (Scopes Trial)
The play Inherit the Wind, was written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee to inform its readers
about the injustice of a law that limited the freedom of an ordinary citizen. This play is based upon
actual events that happened to an individual, John Scopes, in Dayton, Tennessee during the 1920 s.
This famous Monkey Trial not only allowed people to begin to accept new theories about the origin of
man, but also showed that they did not have to limit themselves in other areas of life. In the beginning
of the play, the authors try to lead us into the topic of Darwinism versus Creationism. One instance
was when the character Howard actually told Melinda Your old man s a monkey! (5) The audience
also learns that the accused lawbreaker, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This format also allowed the story to be conveyed without any bias to either side. It is in this way that
the authors allow each side of the case to speak their minds freely. In my opinion the theme s purpose
was achieved through the expression of becoming open with new ideas and leaving the play as
unbiased form.
The author s key style as well highlighted humour, as a comic relief. They used it as a tool to decrease
the stress of the characters and the trial itself. For instance when Brady sarcastically says to
Drummond is the defense showing us the latest fashion in the city of Chicago? (40), and Drummond
strikes back with slapping his suspenders down to attract the attention of the court. They want laughter
aroused in the courtroom. Hornbeck himself is in the play to create some cynical humor. Though it is
not exactly a technique, it did capture my attention how the character who did accustom with changes
and was open to all new ideas ended better than he who was faithful yet stubborn with old ideas.
What I didn t like about Inherit the Wind does not show to be a historically accurate depiction of the
Scopes trial. The main source for Lee and Lawrence s information was the actual trial record found in
Dayton, Tennessee, dating back to 1925. They did not use all of the characters or dialogue from the
records, instead they elaborated on the actual people and events, also using reporters stories on the
case. The authors

Analysis Of The BBC Real Estate Programme
The BBC started in 2001 a programme aimed to reduce the size of its property estate, in line with their
strategy to offer the licence fee payers better value for money. This report seeks to analyse how the
BBC managed its real estate programme and if the management benchmarks with the framework for
large capital programme management offered by ____. Lessons learnt from this programme will be
extracted, and it will be assessed whether the BBC is ultimately working towards its Value for Money
and Quality First Strategy, through the implementation of its estate programme.
1. INTRODUCTION (335)
The British Broadcasting Corporation also known as the BBC, is one of the oldest public broadcasting
companies in the world. Funding its operation mainly through licence fees paid by the public
(Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2016), the BBC and its Trust have the responsibility of spending public
funds efficiently and ensuring public value and appeal (BBC Trust, 2016).
Throughout its history the BBC has attempted to become more cost effective. Since the launch of the
producer choice strategy in 1993 (Felix, 2000), it has been argued that to achieve this they have
battled not only the issues of managerial bureaucracy (Harris et al., 2006), but also the inherent costs
of adapting its infrastructure to new broadcasting technologies (Wegg Prosser, 2001).
In a more recent stride and following the guidance from the BBC Governors and internal auditors, the
BBC set new strategic objectives in

Cognitive Behavioral Theory Essay
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a short term, problem centered therapy that is used to address
psychopathology within the individual (Beck, 1995). This model of therapy is used to address issues
of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, relational problems, and drug abuse, and can be utilized when
working with individuals, as well as within group and family modalities. The core aspects of this
therapy include collaboration and participation by the client, a strong alliance between therapist and
client, and an initial focus on current problems and functioning (Beck, 1995). The theory of CBT
emphasizes the relationship between the individual s thoughts feelings and behaviors, which is seen as
being the underlying cause of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once an automatic thought occurs within the individual, it triggers a feeling, which in turn triggers the
individual s response, such as a behavior and/or physiological response. For example, after a young
child begins to pick up his blocks to be put away, his mother rubs him on the back and gives him
praise for his actions. His automatic thought may be, I am good when I put away blocks, triggering a
feeling of confidence, an increased level of physical energy, and the behavior of putting away the
remaining blocks.
Automatic thoughts can be neutral, positive, or negative. We all have our own automatic thoughts as
we move through our day to day lives and interact with others. In regards to individuals with
psychological disorders, the cognitive model looks at how negative thoughts influence the individual s
feelings and behaviors (Beck, 1995). From a CBT lens, it is the negative automatic thoughts that an
individual has that perpetuate symptoms of psychological disorders, the occurrence of negative mood,
uncomfortable physiological responses, and maladaptive or inappropriate behaviors (Beck, 1995).
While we all have moments of experiencing negative automatic thoughts, for those with psychological
disorders, and more pervasive difficulties in living, negative thoughts are often experienced in
situations that are neutral, producing negative feelings that lead to maladaptive behaviors or responses
that would not

The Devil And Tom Walker Imagery Analysis
Imagery is used to help create a more imaginative and well developed story. These stories started to
become more popular during the time of the Romantic and Transcendentalist. Washington Irving was
an extremely popular author during this time, who was also an author that stretched and tested the
limits of past authors styles, as well as creating his own new style. Washington Irving s short story The
Devil and Tom Walker is a retelling of a Germanic Faust legend. In the story Tom Walker finds
himself in a deep in the forest and comes face to face with the Devil. The Devil tries to make an
agreement with Tom, this agreement will make Tom extremely rich. Tom ruminates over the choice he

Irving theme in this short story is that all action have consequences. In the story Tom tries to trick the
Devil by becoming more pious that others who have religious their entire lives. However, it does not
work, because one day the Devil comes back for Tom holding a black horse, which neighed and
stamped with impatience (Irving 359). This small segment of imagery supports the theme, because the
horse is anxious and impatient as if it has waited a long time to be here and take Tom away to what he
deserves. The reader can imagine a horse that is rearing and ready to go. It demonstrates that even if
Tom protected himself for a little while the Devil still came back to dispense the consequences for the
deal he and Tom made together. Tom worked as a usurer to gain a large fortune that he wanted, just so
he could flaunt it in an ostentatious manner. However he wanted to get this money easily by bartering
with the Devil to find an agreement that made him rich quickly. He did get this money but he suffered
consequences because of it, and when the black horse swept him away all of his earthly treasure
disappeared as well. All his bonds and mortgages were reduced to cinders , his chest of gold and silver
was filled with chips and shavings , and where his two horse were two skeletons lay in his stable
(Irving 359). He was never able to enjoy the money he made, because of the actions he took to gain it.
On the other hand, Tom never did enjoy his money, because of his stingy nature. Tom wanted all the
money he could get his hands on, but he never wanted to spend a dime. In addition with the added fear
of the Devil coming at any time Tom was always on edge and at peace. He made a deal with the Devil
and the Devil made him suffer the consequences of his actions. Old Scratch and his black horse
carried him off after Tom agonized under the unknown time the Devil s return.

The Inuit people find it very useful for their society to understand the spiritual part of their culture
because it helps them connect to each other and their inner self. Culture is extremely significant to the
Inuit people and they spent a lot of time practicing how to greater it. In Concise Dictionary of Social
and Cultural Anthropology by Mike Morris culture is defined as: general use, culture is usually treated
as an attribute of quality of refinement in the mind, which can be accumulated or exercised through
reading, attending the theatre, and classical music concerts and similar pursuits (pg.56). Culture is also
defined by Charles Winick in Dictionary of Anthropology as: all that which is nonbiological and
socially transmitted in a society, including artistic, social, ideological, and religious patterns of
behaviour, and the techniques for mastering the environment (pg. 146). The intelligence of Raven is

Raven is also called upon in Native ritual for healing purposes. Specifically, the Raven is thought to

The Message of Hate in Babi Yar Essay
The Message of Hate in Yevgeny Yevtushenko s Babi Yar
There are very few people in the world who are willing to go against the popular trends and do what
they feel in their hearts is correct. But Yevgeny Yevtushenko is one of those people. In his poem Babi
Yar, he tells the story of the modern persecution of the Jews, focusing on atrocities like those of the
massacre at Babi Yar and the pogroms at Beilostok, and also the general anti Semitism that killed men
like Dreyfus and pervades the entire Russian people. The poem uses many literary devices, such as
graphic imagery and contrasts, while painting a very clear picture of the scenes of pure horror.

He says that he too must be a Jew for he is afraid of what his people and his society have become.
Many years ago, in the ancient days, it would not be such a shock to see the Jews enslaved in Egypt or
crucified as a means of torture and death, but even in modern times the same things are going on he
still has the marks from where the nails pierced him. The author has used classical examples of Jewish
persecution which every one knows is gone in the physical sense, but show how they still exist in the
theoretical aspect, as the persecution is still occurring.
In the next three stanzas, the poem takes the standpoint of three figures whose stories are pertinent
examples of what Yevtushenko is trying to rely in this poem. First the voice of Dreyfus is used, and
the stanza describes how horribly and unfairly he was treated, and how the country and its leaders
turned their backs on him.
There are two important literary devices used in this section. First the author puts the word pettiness
on a line by itself. This is used as a declaration of what the author feels anti Semitism is based on. It is
because of pettiness that Dreyfus was accused and further because of pettiness that he was not
pardoned when it was proven that he had not committed any crime. The next important device is the
description of ladies with their umbrellas. This is an image to the wealthy

Through religion and dance, they were able to release themselves to their gods and at the same time
engage in a form of passive resistance. At the forefront of all this was enslaved women, who passed
down and kept alive a disproportionate amount of the cultural heritage of Africa that survived in
slavery. They did so through their roles as mothers and healers, daughters and workers. They were, in
short, strong women who felt it is their duty to uphold traditional values.
In many African cultures, women were honoured and this attitude towards them did not change within
the Caribbean. Many of the religious rites and rituals took on an altered form in the Caribbean, but the
role of women was constant. The proof is in the legacy that has been left behind. The same customs
that enslaved Africans brought with them are still present today. For instance, women have handed
down lessons through the art of storytelling, an art which they have maintained. Their stories tell of
ancient people in ancient times but the morals are relevant even today, as are told in the Haitian
folktale Ti Malice or the Jamaican folktales of Anansi. Another part of life still present today is the art
of hair braiding, an ancient African tradition, which has always created a bond between mothers and
their children. As with cooking, it had

Aristotle And Heidegger s Views On What A Human Or Beings...
Aristotle and Heidegger have conflicting views on what a human or beings are. Although, there are
some similarities to each of their set of ideas. Aristotle has a clear hierarchical framework classifying
the differences between humans, animals, and plants. Heidegger opposes this strict definitions by
discussing this idea of Dasein which states of being there. Although, their approaches to this topic are
different with the types of question one asks and how they theorize about what is a being. There is key
similarities that they discuss almost two thousand years apart. Aristotle and Heidegger are two
philosophers that have tackled the enormous question, what is it to be a being? This paper discusses
the two different approaches to defining this long standing question. Aristotle asks many what
questions when talking about what is a living being. He discusses us as a specific type of animals and
how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy when discussing the
differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled destructible mobile
substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can disintegrate when no soul is
in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul but not a rational soul compared
to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal is a living item that has perception.

Sex Drugs And Roll Essay
Sex, drugs and rock and roll. These were the values of the young generation of the mid 1960 s. This
generation was pushing the limits of sexual, social, and political inhibitions and behind the force of
their hippie love was the engine of psychedelic rock and roll music. This genre of rock music is
inspired by the counterculture scene of the 1950 s and 60 s and attempts to capture the mind altering
feelings and emotions attached to psychedelic drugs. The first group to advertise themselves as
psychedelic rock was the 13th Floor Elevators from Texas, at the end of 1965. However, the
partnership of drugs and music goes back much further than that. The Beat Generation writers in the
second half of the 1950 s, such as William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, used and
wrote about drugs like cannabis and Benzidrine, which popularized and raised more awareness of drug
use. The culture of drug use had long pervaded jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

also contributed to the progression of psychedelic music, such as New York City, Detroit, Chicago,

1966. Bands like Pink Floyd, Traffic, Soft Machine, Cream, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience (lead

Essay An Analysis of The Harlot s House
An Analysis of The Harlot s House
Oscar Wilde s The Harlot s House was written in 1881, towards the latter part of the Victorian era.
This genre is a poem containing 12 stanzas. The point of view in this piece is from the narrator s
perspective early on, the narrative distance moves further distant in the fourth stanza, zooms in, then
out again.
The narrator is walking down a street and pauses, with his companion, beneath the harlot s house
(Wilde, Longman p. 2069: 1.3). In the next two stanzas Wilde transitions to the inside of the house
depicting a partygoers atmosphere in Inside, above the din and fray (2.1) and shadows of the figures
inside are projected onto the blind (3.3). This movie projector type ... Show more content on

The narrator turns to his love and opines, the dead are dancing with the dead an insinuation that these
are not people, but sinners in their despised condition (9.2 3).
The final three stanzas contain the climax where the narrator s companion is wooed by the music and
chooses to go into the harlot s house Love passed into the house of Lust (10.3). Another reading would
have the narrator s love as the actual harlot herself. I find that harder to fathom, but rather the story of
the narrator s love wooed by the gaiety and frivolous lifestyle more believable. The narrator s
condemnation of this brothel is in keeping with the ending of the Victorian age, a time ruled by
propriety and prudishness. The companion of the narrator chose the allure of a wanton, rule free
lifestyle though.
This poem typifies Wilde s own life to some degree, in that he enjoyed marriage and fatherhood but
found married life a bore (Longman p. 2067). Wilde is then said to have become enamoured of a book
known as the bible of decadence (p. 2067) and similar to his poem, he then chose to enter the harlot s
house, so to speak. His biographer described his decision to follow decadence as Wilde being
summoned to the underground (p. 2067).
Wilde later fell in love with a young man, Lord Alfred Douglas, who unfortunately for Wilde, had a
father that disapproved of the relationship (p.

Management Study at a Library Essay examples Introduction Management, as defined by Daft and Marcic, is the effective and efficient attainment of organizational goals, through planning, organizing, leading and controlling organizational resources. This community service organizational study has allowed our group to extend our learning outside the classroom and apply management theories to the real world. The site that we volunteered at was the Venice Library. Upon first arriving, our team thought that it was going to be a struggle to try and observe real life managerial workings at a library as compared to the other non profits. • 5. Immigration Law And Family Law The areas of Immigration Law and Family Law are so intertwined it is almost counterintuitive to speak of Immigration without any mention of family. Immigration for the most part involves families; to separate them is a divisive move of excommunication. This is the exact reason why Homeland Security established the H1 fiancĂ©e visa. The H1 fiancĂ© visa can expedite the waiting period for immigration. Essentially an individual can claim that their fiancĂ© resides in the United States and that he/she intends to get married in the United States upon their arrival. These fast track options have opened the floodgates for abuse with little to no safe guards in place. I believe this must change. Recently I volunteered to help on a pro bono case involving ... Despite this, we were able to secure a court order voiding the marriage in the form of an annulment, and not a divorce. The Islamic magistrate would not dare defy a court order stating such. This in turn, forced the Islamic Court to recognize the Court Ordered Annulment and voided the Islamic marriage contract. Also, Homeland Security finally recognized that the marriage was a farce and acknowledged that there was immigration abuse at hand, thereby revoking the status of the fiancĂ© visa. Working side by side with an attorney on this matter has given me a unique perspective of foreign family dynamics and if combined with the U.S Family Law, I truly believe I can make a difference one person at a time. It would be an honor to be amongst those elite attorneys who defy cultural norms in the face of injustice when recognizing a true family situation versus a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cain grew up with a younger brother named Abel. He worked as a gardener while Abel was a herdsman. The turning point in Cain s life was during harvest time when he brought a sacrifice of vegetables to God while his brother brought the best lamb he had. God accepted Abel s offering but rejected Cain s. This threw Cain into an uncontrollable rage in which he planned the murder of his brother. Even though God warned Cain to subdue his evil intentions, Cain murdered his brother. This caused God to curse Cain as an endless wonderer. Cain s sin was infected into all his descendants to the point of God whipping the slate clean in a flood only to save Cain s brother s second brother Seth s descendant Noah and his family. Isaac Isaac was the long anticipated son of Abraham and Sarah. He was the son of the promise in which God gave to Abraham. However, Isaac was born into a hostile environment because of is half brother Ishmael. Some may say that it can be defined by sex differences and others say that it is primarily the difference in male individuals. According to Charles Darwin, sexual selection can simply be defined as competition for mates. Competition for mates, mate choice, and courtship behavior are all closely related and provide evidence for sexual selection. They are all very common in sexual selection. They help with the process of evolution. Male male competition happens frequently in competition for mates. Competition in mates during sexual selection usually includes males being anxious to compete with one another for access to other mates, such as females. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sexual behavior and other reproductive characters are the most basic criteria for suspecting sexual selection in a species of organisms(Leonard, 2006). One organism who provides an example of courtship behavior includes land snails. Land snails exhibit elaborate courtship behavior by shooting their partner with a calcareous when mating. The calcareous is about a centimeter long. The long calcareous is referred to as a love dart. When the snail is shot with the love dart, sperm is released which can then be released and fertilize the other partner s eggs. This process is an example of a bizarre sexual behavior. It is labeled as bizarre because it is out of the ordinary and the result from being shot with the love dart can sometimes be unfortunate. Love darts can sometimes cause accidental deaths in the snails. They can also ultimately lower the fertility rate of the snail because of the damage that is done to the body when the dart is inserted. Another example of unusual conduct is apophallation, which can be found in two different types of slugs. Apophallation is when sexual intercourse is sometimes ended by the removal of the penis of one or both of the individuals. Studies have suggested that individuals who exhibit courtship behavior also tend to exhibit aggressive behavior(Chiver and Schlinger, 2016). Articles Of Confederation Achievements Under the Articles of Confederation, the federal government was very weak and unable to accommodate the nation after declaring its independence (Schultz, 2010). The Articles of Confederation was a document drafted by the Continental Congress between 1776 and 1777, which defined the colonies power and authority. Although the Articles were ready for ratification the following year, it would not go into effect until 1781 after all thirteen states were in agreeance. Once the Articles were ratified, they made three notable achievements (Schultz, 2010). First, they showcased that the government consisted of laws that limited its authority. Minimizing the power that the government wielded was important to the people because they had just escaped rule from Great Britain. Next, the Articles made it clear that there would be no titles or a class system in the nation, granting equal rights to all qualifying members. Hamlet And Ophelia In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, there were many important characters just like Hamlet who show up in more than three fourths of the play; but there are also characters that don t necessarily show up as much but still have a strong role. One of the characters that didn t get as much screen time but was still important was Ophelia. Ophelia was a sister, girlfriend, and daughter that so many people loved. Therefore, Despite the lack of presence of Ophelia, she ultimately played a big role in the lives of a lot of the characters. Throughout the play, Hamlet and Ophelia have a very strong love connection. They loved each other and wanted to eventually get married. Hamlet and Ophelia hit some bumps in the road in their relationship but they always secretly wanted to be together. In Act 1, Scene 3, It was hard for Ophelia to comprehend when Polonius told her that he thought Hamlet s love for her wasn t real, but she didn t know what to believe. When Hamlet could no longer see Ophelia he began to get mad a frustrated, to add on also that he was going crazy over his own father s death. Another time Ophelia was important in Hamlet s life was after not seeing Ophelia for a while Hamlet stumbles upon a grave site being dug in the middle of the woods, but at the time he doesn t know who for. When Hamlet find out that Ophelia is the one that is being put to rest he starts to go crazy again. He says I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers, if you added all their love together, couldn t match mine. What are you going to do for her? ( V, I, pg.12. lines 247 249). Hamlet is basically trying to say that even if they don t believe him he really did love Ophelia. Gertrude responded by saying, This is pure insanity. He ll be like this for a little while (V, I, pg. 12 lines 247 249). When Gertrude says this she basically means that he has gone crazy before that this is normal he will calm down soon. Glen Grant Distillery Research Paper The history of the Glen Grant Distillery starts all the way back in 1820 when the men of the Grant Clan raided nearby Elgin to free their chief and his family. The Raid on Elgin is the last Scottish revolt in history. The leader of this revolt, James Grant, and his brother John, ran an unlicensed and illegal distillery for nearly 20 years when in 1840 they decided to embark on making their dream of creating a world famous single malt whisky into reality by applying for a license. The site of the Glen Grant Distillery, in Speyside in the Scottish Highlands, was deemed ideal to make this happen, with the nearby port of Garmouth, fields of barley surrounding it, and the River Spey to the south. After the death of both the Grant brothers in 1872, James Grant s son, also called James, inherited the distillery and took over it s running. Known as a bit of a maverick, he went by the nickname of The Major and was fascinated by new ideas he was also not afraid to put them into practice. A Christian worldview recognizes a higher power that created the universe and is present in it with the capability to manipulate events as he pleases. This worldview also allows communication with this being. There is an immortal soul in all of use and a supernatural non physical place where it can reside with God after death. Christianity has much to work with in presenting the argument against Scientific Naturalism. A Christian worldview can embrace science and use it to its advantage. Christianity gains the upper hand because it can use the ideas of Scientific Naturalism but is not limited to strict scientific method. There can be a deeper explanation for events that seem so impossible in a closed universe. Its downfall is that it cannot remain strictly objective and empirical. This play is based upon actual events that happened to an individual, John Scopes, in Dayton, Tennessee during the 1920 s. This famous Monkey Trial not only allowed people to begin to accept new theories about the origin of man, but also showed that they did not have to limit themselves in other areas of life. The author s key style as well highlighted humour, as a comic relief. They used it as a tool to decrease the stress of the characters and the trial itself. For instance when Brady sarcastically says to Drummond is the defense showing us the latest fashion in the city of Chicago? What I didn t like about Inherit the Wind does not show to be a historically accurate depiction of the Scopes trial. The main source for Lee and Lawrence s information was the actual trial record found in Dayton, Tennessee, dating back to 1925. His automatic thought may be, I am good when I put away blocks, triggering a feeling of confidence, an increased level of physical energy, and the behavior of putting away the remaining blocks. In Concise Dictionary of Social and Cultural Anthropology by Mike Morris culture is defined as: general use, culture is usually treated as an attribute of quality of refinement in the mind, which can be accumulated or exercised through reading, attending the theatre, and classical music concerts and similar pursuits (pg.56). Culture is also defined by Charles Winick in Dictionary of Anthropology as: all that which is nonbiological and socially transmitted in a society, including artistic, social, ideological, and religious patterns of behaviour, and the techniques for mastering the environment (pg. 146). The intelligence of Raven is never ending, he can do anything he set his mind too, Raven is especially good at healing. Raven is also called upon in Native ritual for healing purposes. Specifically, the Raven is thought to provide long distance healing. Raven is so intelligent he could heal anyone. Gale Eaton mentioned in Raven the Trickster that the Inuit, along with other cultures, believe that being able to heal is an important power; if you could heal the sick more people can survive, making it so there were ... • 29. The Message of Hate in Babi Yar Essay The Message of Hate in Yevgeny Yevtushenko s Babi Yar There are very few people in the world who are willing to go against the popular trends and do what they feel in their hearts is correct. But Yevgeny Yevtushenko is one of those people. In his poem Babi Yar, he tells the story of the modern persecution of the Jews, focusing on atrocities like those of the massacre at Babi Yar and the pogroms at Beilostok, and also the general anti Semitism that killed men like Dreyfus and pervades the entire Russian people. The poem uses many literary devices, such as graphic imagery and contrasts, while painting a very clear picture of the scenes of pure horror. Babi Yar is written in many different voices, all of which, however, have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He says that he too must be a Jew for he is afraid of what his people and his society have become. Many years ago, in the ancient days, it would not be such a shock to see the Jews enslaved in Egypt or crucified as a means of torture and death, but even in modern times the same things are going on he still has the marks from where the nails pierced him. The author has used classical examples of Jewish persecution which every one knows is gone in the physical sense, but show how they still exist in the theoretical aspect, as the persecution is still occurring. In the next three stanzas, the poem takes the standpoint of three figures whose stories are pertinent examples of what Yevtushenko is trying to rely in this poem. First the voice of Dreyfus is used, and the stanza describes how horribly and unfairly he was treated, and how the country and its leaders turned their backs on him. There are two important literary devices used in this section. First the author puts the word pettiness on a line by itself. This is used as a declaration of what the author feels anti Semitism is based on. It is because of pettiness that Dreyfus was accused and further because of pettiness that he was not pardoned when it was proven that he had not committed any crime. The next important device is the description of ladies with their umbrellas. This is an image to the wealthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through religion and dance, they were able to release themselves to their gods and at the same time engage in a form of passive resistance. At the forefront of all this was enslaved women, who passed down and kept alive a disproportionate amount of the cultural heritage of Africa that survived in slavery. They did so through their roles as mothers and healers, daughters and workers. They were, in short, strong women who felt it is their duty to uphold traditional values. In many African cultures, women were honoured and this attitude towards them did not change within the Caribbean. Many of the religious rites and rituals took on an altered form in the Caribbean, but the role of women was constant. The proof is in the legacy that has been left behind. The same customs that enslaved Africans brought with them are still present today. For instance, women have handed down lessons through the art of storytelling, an art which they have maintained. Their stories tell of ancient people in ancient times but the morals are relevant even today, as are told in the Haitian folktale Ti Malice or the Jamaican folktales of Anansi. Another part of life still present today is the art of hair braiding, an ancient African tradition, which has always created a bond between mothers and their children. As with cooking, it had ... Don t Forget To Like, Share and Subscribe: A Critical Evaluation of the Contemporary Issues in Social Media The recent explosion in computer mediated communication has led to a phenomenal up surge in the availability and use of social networking sites. Dictionary.com describes the term social networking as an online community of people with a common interest who use a website or other technologies to communicate with each other and share information, resources, etc. and, within the last 10/15 years, there have been significant developments in technology making these online communities even easier to access. During the late 90 s and early 2000s, there was limited interactivity on computers and internet speeds; this is what s known as Web 1.0. In 1995, Clifford Stoll wrote an article for Newsweek titled The Internet? Bah! Hype alert: Why cyberspace isn t, and will never be, nirvana . In his article, he went on to describe what little faith he has in the internet lasting very long and that he thought it was just a temporary craze . Little did he know that by the year 2012, some 2 billion people around the world be using the internet and social media via computers, smartphones, tablet devices and consoles as well as internet enabled televisions and e readers . • 32. Aristotle And Heidegger s Views On What A Human Or Beings... Aristotle and Heidegger have conflicting views on what a human or beings are. Although, there are some similarities to each of their set of ideas. Aristotle has a clear hierarchical framework classifying the differences between humans, animals, and plants. Heidegger opposes this strict definitions by discussing this idea of Dasein which states of being there. Although, their approaches to this topic are different with the types of question one asks and how they theorize about what is a being. There is key similarities that they discuss almost two thousand years apart. Aristotle and Heidegger are two philosophers that have tackled the enormous question, what is it to be a being? This paper discusses the two different approaches to defining this long standing question. Aristotle asks many what questions when talking about what is a living being. He discusses us as a specific type of animals and how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy when discussing the differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled destructible mobile substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can disintegrate when no soul is in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul but not a rational soul compared to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal is a living item that has perception. (BS 1) In the novel, Under the Persimmon Tree, the author, Suzanne Fisher Staples, creates character development in Najmah by using information about how Afghans became refugees during the historical Taliban war. (BS 2) The author also uses the hardships of travel the Afghans experienced as the foundation of an external conflict Najmah suffers through on her way to Torkhum. (BS 3) The author even shows Nusrat s generosity towards her refugee pupils by applying the poor conditions of the camps the refugees lived through. (TS) In Under the Persimmon Tree, by Suzanne Fisher Staples, the author uses realistic information about Afghan refugees to create literary meaning in the novel within the stories of Najmah and Nusrat. (MIP 1) The author creates literary meaning, in the form of character development in Najmah, by using information about how Afghan people became refugees during the Taliban war. (SIP A) Akhtar and Najmah become refugees themselves, and go to the refugee camps in Torkhum, simply because the Taliban war causes them, and many other Afghans at the point in history, to flee Afghanistan. (STEWE 1) The war with the Taliban after 9/11 is the key reason why many Afghans, even those in the novel, escaped and became refugees. • 34. Sex Drugs And Roll Essay Sex, drugs and rock and roll. These were the values of the young generation of the mid 1960 s. This generation was pushing the limits of sexual, social, and political inhibitions and behind the force of their hippie love was the engine of psychedelic rock and roll music. This genre of rock music is inspired by the counterculture scene of the 1950 s and 60 s and attempts to capture the mind altering feelings and emotions attached to psychedelic drugs. The first group to advertise themselves as psychedelic rock was the 13th Floor Elevators from Texas, at the end of 1965. However, the partnership of drugs and music goes back much further than that. The Beat Generation writers in the second half of the 1950 s, such as William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, used and wrote about drugs like cannabis and Benzidrine, which popularized and raised more awareness of drug use. The culture of drug use had long pervaded jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. Essay An Analysis of The Harlot s House An Analysis of The Harlot s House Oscar Wilde s The Harlot s House was written in 1881, towards the latter part of the Victorian era. This genre is a poem containing 12 stanzas. The point of view in this piece is from the narrator s perspective early on, the narrative distance moves further distant in the fourth stanza, zooms in, then out again. The narrator is walking down a street and pauses, with his companion, beneath the harlot s house (Wilde, Longman p. 2069: 1.3). In the next two stanzas Wilde transitions to the inside of the house depicting a partygoers atmosphere in Inside, above the din and fray (2.1) and shadows of the figures inside are projected onto the blind (3.3). This movie projector type ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator turns to his love and opines, the dead are dancing with the dead an insinuation that these are not people, but sinners in their despised condition (9.2 3). The final three stanzas contain the climax where the narrator s companion is wooed by the music and chooses to go into the harlot s house Love passed into the house of Lust (10.3). Another reading would have the narrator s love as the actual harlot herself. I find that harder to fathom, but rather the story of the narrator s love wooed by the gaiety and frivolous lifestyle more believable. The narrator s condemnation of this brothel is in keeping with the ending of the Victorian age, a time ruled by propriety and prudishness. The companion of the narrator chose the allure of a wanton, rule free lifestyle though. This poem typifies Wilde s own life to some degree, in that he enjoyed marriage and fatherhood but found married life a bore (Longman p. 2067). Wilde is then said to have become enamoured of a book known as the bible of decadence (p. 2067) and similar to his poem, he then chose to enter the harlot s house, so to speak. His biographer described his decision to follow decadence as Wilde being summoned to the underground (p. 2067). Wilde later fell in love with a young man, Lord Alfred Douglas, who unfortunately for Wilde, had a father that disapproved of the relationship (p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
