Dysrhythmia Research Paper
A normal heart beats 60 to 100 beats per minute. However, those who suffer from arrhythmia (also
known as dysrhythmia) have an irregular or abnormal heartbeat; either too fast or too slow. It is
important to diagnose arrhythmia early because when the heart beats irregularly, the blood is not being
pumped properly which could lead to heart defects and improper blood flow throughout the body.
People who are diagnosed with this disorder are at risk of future heart disease. Arrhythmia is not
contagious but some heart rhythm disorders are often inherited, so if one person is diagnosed with an
arrhythmia, other family members may be affected too.
Fortunately, there are life changing actions that can reduce the risk of developing arrhythmia or heart
disease. There is no cure for it but depending on the type and severity of the arrhythmia, medication
and other forms of treatment can reduce symptoms and regulate the heartbeat. This includes: regular
exercising, controlling cholesterol levels, eating a balanced diet, stopping or limiting caffeine drinks,
reducing high blood pressure, and avoiding alcohol or tobacco products. It is also important to always

Being pregnant can stress the heart and contribute to the development of arrhythmia. All women
should consider the safety of a pregnancy by taking their underlying heart condition into account.
Before proceeding to have a baby, it is important to discuss it with a heart specialist. Long episodes of
arrhythmias associated with fainting or collapsing, can have an effect on the unborn child. It is
important to pay attention to symptoms during the pregnancy and notify a doctor if worrying
syndromes are developed; such as palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, or chest tightness. If the
symptoms are concerning the best thing to do is to go to the nearest emergency

Rhetorical Analysis Of State Of Oregon Vs Kipland
A Rhetorical Analysis of State of Oregon v. Kipland Philip Kinkel
Introduction
The human brain is a remarkably intricate organ. Therefore, simple mutations in its complexity can
result in devastating conditions leading to acts of violence. Kinkel, a fifteen year old boy,
demonstrates his partaking in the unnecessary murders of both his parents and innocent bystanders.
Kinkel is said to have shown signs of his intentions through inconspicuous matters. Later holding the
guilt of four deaths and twenty six attempts via semi automatic weaponry (para. 5). The mental
instability of the subject is proven to be in effect, and a suitable cause for these behaviors. The
document in question is The State of Oregon v. Kipland Philip Kinkel , in which encompasses a trial
the young boy capable of murder. Kinkel is convicted of the absolute minimal sentence for the nature
of his crimes, followed by his seemly confession. The defense and prosecution contemplate proper
arguments given the defendants substantial witnesses to the crimes and articles of law. Justice is
debated among the courts and how to satisfy these reprimands. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos,
logos, and pathos to support the higher courts decision to deny the appeal because the original
sentence was constitutional and just.
Summary of The Court document
The original conviction of Kinkel was on behalf of four counts of murder, and twenty six counts
attempted murder, in which the defendant is set to face one hundred

POST PUNK 1979 1980 Both influenced by the punk scene of New York and also by the
experimental music of the 1970s, the Sex Pistols and the first English punk bands were created. New
groups appeared: Captain Beefheart or Residents. But first punk and particularly Clash make it
evolved to post punk. This movement gives rise to many bands claiming the legacy of punk and brings
a mix of genres, much more complex and open. I will introduce iconic albums here. Check on the

of the main bands mentioned with a study of the themes. The basis of the punk thought: individual
freedom (do it yourself), challenged the established order. Inspired by older ideologies like anarchy or
nihilism. Associated with a more recent concepts like antifascist anti racism. In everyday life: messy,
improvisation. Punk was characterized by the notion of subversion and absolute individualism. Self
deprecating, embezzlement Codes and especially destruction of social barriers are used to transmit
their messages. This philosophy had been described by Craig O Hara in 1995, in The philosophy of
punk. It is often summed up in the slogan no future but it is an overly simplistic approach because the

The Identifying Factors in the Development of Aggression...
The Identifying Factors in the Development of Aggression and Violence in Youth Today
Tragic events like the shootings at Columbine High School capture public attention and concern, but
are not typical of youth violence. Most adolescent homicides are committed in inner cities and outside
of school. They most frequently involve an interpersonal dispute and a single victim. On average, six
or seven youths are murdered in this country each day. Most of these are inner city minority youths.
Such acts of violence are tragic and contribute to a climate of fear in schools and communities.
Research findings are identifying factors in the development of aggressive and antisocial behavior
from early childhood to adolescence and into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Successful early adjustment at home increases the likelihood that children will overcome such
individual challenges and not become violent. However, exposure to violent or aggressive behavior
within a family or peer group may influence a child in that direction.
Types and Severity of Antisocial Behavior
The types and severity of antisocial behaviors exhibited by youths vary greatly and include lying,
bullying, truancy, starting fights, vandalism, theft, assault, rape, and homicide. As a rule, the older the
age of onset, the fewer the number of antisocial youths who will engage in seriously aggressive and
violent behavior. Longitudinal studies show that many children who engage in antisocial behavior in
childhood continue to do so at least through adolescence.
Longitudinal research has identified types of youth who progress to adolescent antisocial behavior,
multiple pathways through which it develops and persists, and the multiple factors that shape this risk.
This research has identified two types of life course trajectories: life course persistent, which is
viewed as a form of psycho
pathology, and adolescence limited, which is identified only in select social situations. The distinction
between these two types of individuals is very useful, both as a way of thinking about developmental
knowledge and as a tool for targeting the right interventions for antisocial youth.
Research in this area has generated evidence for this way of

The Happiest Refugee Analysis
Anh s success is ultimately defined by his parent s teachings. In Anh Do s memoir, The Happiest
Refugee , his accomplishments are explored through his relationship with his family and his career as
an established comedian. After fleeing the torn society of Vietnam, the Do family resettle in Australia
and begin their new life with more opportunities and chances for success. Anh s parents are
accountable for part of his success. Although Anh seems to be the most accomplished in his family,
none of his accomplishments and personal traits would have been obtained if it was not for his

failure doesn t matter and Anh s resilience was strengthened as a result.
His mother sacrificed a lot so Anh could pursue his dreams and passions. His mother Hein is
extremely hard working. When she left her home country in Vietnam and arrived in Australia she

Paper On Predestination
1. Predestination has always been, for me, a tricky topic/doctrine. I find it very difficult to reconcile
God s choosing the elect with the implications for those who are non elect. It seems very
contradictory, and contrary to His nature, that an all loving God, who loves unregenerate persons as
much (?) as regenerate persons, would essentially choose, whether actively or passively, individuals to
spend eternity in hell. Admittedly, my own theological grasp of hell is somewhat lacking, as I don t
really understand how allowing people to live in torment for all of eternity can be a loving action on
God s part, although I know that it must somehow be loving. While I despise universalism, I can
understand why Christians might wish to twist their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I find the argument that the repentance required for salvation can be considered a work to be
interesting, but ultimately incorrect. It seems to me that repentance, defined as the abandonment of
sin, inspired by godly sorrow for our sin (Erickson 352), is still enabled, or even given to us, by the
Lord, without whose influence we would not be capable, in our total depravity, of experiencing a truly
godly sorrow over our sin. Also, I disagree with the argument that repentance moves us away from
salvation by faith alone, as repentance is part of faith. True faith cannot be separated from repentance
(352), as they are interwoven together, or two sides of the same coin (Zuck 5). For example, the self
stated purpose of the Gospel of John is so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of
God, and that by believing you may have life in His name (English Standard Version, John 20:31).
The entire book of John, which is clearly evangelistic and dedicated to bringing people to faith in
Christ (as God), does not speak of repentance at all, indicating its position as an aspect of conversion
alongside faith, rather than as a separate entity in the process of salvation. Indeed, if repentance is
distinct from faith as a requirement to be saved, then the full gospel is not given by John (Ironside 37
38), which is at odds with his evangelistic purpose. Both repentance and faith are acts, yes, but not
works in and of themselves (or if they are, they are primarily done or

The Book The Wolves Of The Walls, The Sandm Dream...
Throughout the second semester of my first year attending Rogers State University, I learned valuable
life lasting lessons, concepts, and morals that will forever change the way that I view the world and
the people that make up the cultures and societies in it. Multiple works that I studied and discussed in
class consist of works by Neil Gaiman such as The Graveyard Book, The Wolves in the Walls, The
Sandman: Dream Country, and The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Another important work that
influenced me along with the Gaiman works is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. These literary
works influenced me to think about the meaning of life and the purpose in my life because my life is
not always guaranteed to be here tomorrow. Although I still take things for granted, I have learned
from studying these works that the things in this life should be appreciated because they have meaning
and a purpose. While I studied multiple literary works this semester, I believe that the five works
discussed above had the greatest impact on me as a student, a brother, and a friend because they taught
me important values I will always cherish and reflect upon in the wide, wide world. The first work
that had an important influence on me was The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. This piece of
literature follows a boy named Bod who is adopted by the inhabitants of a graveyard that consist of
ghosts, witches, and a vampire. Throughout the work, Bod is discovering who he is and where he

Bacterial Enumeration of Various Meat Products
The objective of this study was to record a quantitative approximation of how many bacteria are
present within various samples of meat products. The bacterial content of each meat sample is vital
information in regards to improvements within the meat processing industry, and gives reason for
changing or sustaining current feeding and processing conditions. Understanding which methods
taken in processing meat that is sold to the public is a matter of public health, as obtaining and
maintaining lower levels of bacteria in meats will reduce the likelihood of succumbing to illness from
the consumption of such products by the end consumer. In a previous study focusing on the levels of

RESULTS.
Among the analyzed spread plates, samples from meat source A appeared to have the highest numbers
of colonies, while each enumeration held a direct relationship with the dilution number, steadily
decreasing in value as predicted, but averaging at a calculated quantity of 1.47E+07 bacteria (Table 1).
Samples from meat source B showed similar trends. Samples from meat sources C and D did not
provide statistically significant results, and thus provided inconclusive data; each of these spread
plates had a recorded sample average of 0.00E+00 to represent this (Chart 1). The pour plates had
dynamic results, the most interesting of which arose from source A2; this pour plate at a concentration
of 1.00E 03 grew colonies that were too numerous to count, then decreased to 77 colonies at the next
dilution level of 1.00E 04, but increased again at the following dilution of 1.00E 05 (Table 1). Source
A3 was similarly dynamic at dilution levels 1.00E 03 and 1.00E 04, with colony counts recorded at
188 and 268, respectively, and then falling to levels that were not statistically significant (Table 2).
This data contradicts the predicted trend; however, all other recorded data followed the ideal trend.

Essay on The Boondock Saints’ Positive Deviance
The movie The Boondock Saints provides an excellent example of positive deviance through
innovation. The Social theory of deviance can easily explain the brothers actions. The movie can be
used to study deviance as the brothers kill people who are mafia members, breaking the norms of
society. Even though the acts they are committing are clearly illegal and deviant, the people of South
Boston do not react in a negative way. Since the Social theory is very broad, it will be easier to look at
the brother s acts under three sub theories: Labeling, Conflict and Strain theories. The Social theory of
deviance explains why people break social norms, and what their motivation may be for doing so. The

After the brothers kill the first two Russian mafia members, the community gives them the label The
Saints of South Boston . Because of the positive connotation of the label that they are given by the
media, they realize that the people living in the city would not have a major problem with them killing
the top members of the mafia to make the city more peaceful.
As they become better at killing the top mafia members, some of the citizens even go as far as to call
the brothers Angels . With the majority of the city supporting the brothers killings, they see no reason
why they should stop. Instead they take it to the next level with the help of more positive labels, and
make it more of an occupation, they compare themselves to 7 11 as they are not always doing
business, but they are always open. Without the labels that the media gives them, it would not be
possible to continue on with their work of reducing crime. If the labels were originally negative after
their first encounter with the two mafia members, there would be no reason for them to continue, as no
one would approve of their acts. After the last scene of the movie, there are interviews with the
citizens of South Boston. During the interviews, most of the people are starting to give the brothers
negative labels calling them criminals. Since the labels are becoming more and more negative, the
brothers leave and go back to Ireland where they grew up. The Labeling theory is

Fallingwater was built in a Nature Reserve, which provides a basic pure natural environment. Rather
than have the waterfall in occupant s view, the designer of the house, Wright, placed the house right on
the top of the waterfall to make it a part of occupant s lives. The integration of the house with

For twenty six years beginning in the year 1854 homeless children from New York City were sent out
west on trains. The west was thought of as the land of the future and change. People would move out
west to start over . Beginning in the 1860s the Sisters of Charity began to play a significant role in

by allowing mothers of unwanted newborns to leave their babies in the sisters care. Due to the

Hansel And Gretel Moral Lesson
Hansel and Gretel is one of the Brothers Grimm best known fairytales with good reason: it resonates
deeply with children and their greatest fears: being abandoned by their parents, being lost, and being
eaten, and represents a horrific parental ethical dilemma: discard your children to save yourselves,
and, finally, teaches us that both good and evil moral behaviors have consequences. This is an old
fairy tale with great depth and lessons that echo through time into modern day. This essay attempts to
find possible modern meanings, sacred representations, and moral patterns behind the story of the lost
children and their journey through the dark forest.

The Effects Of Conventional Energy Sources And Increasing...
Depleting nature of the conventional energy sources and increasing cost of electrical energy are
forcing mankind to look for possible modifications in the existing systems towards lower energy
consumption without sacrificing the purpose for which it is used. The household refrigerator used
extensively all over the world for preserving various food products is one such system which accounts
for the substantial part of the house electricity bills. Refrigerator is a machine which lifts up the heat
from low evaporator temperature (pressure) and pumps it against the high condenser temperatures
(pressure).
Following were the objectives decided for achieving this aim:
1. To study the literature on domestic refrigerator with higher evaporator temperature in the
temperature range of 265K 270K.
2. To study existing domestic refrigerator including lower temperatures.
3. To design and fabricate a suitable capillary tube to be used with the modified refrigerator to provide
required evaporator temperature.
4. Redesigning the shape of the evaporator used in the refrigerator.
5. To evaluate the performance of the system using recommended test procedures in the literature.
6. To evaluate economic viability of the system for modifying the existing systems.
The reason behind selecting the temperature range 268K 272K for domestic refrigerator in the
evaporator is to study the effects of the this temperature range on stored products and to increase

Canadian Tort Law
Engineers, contractors, and other businesses must be mindful of and knowledgeable of their legal
obligations when performing their occupation or supplying a product. Negligence in the design or
construction of a product that results in damage or bodily harm, or could result in damage or bodily
harm, can result in liability for economic loss under Canadian Tort law. Engineers, architects, and
contractors need to be respectful of their duty of care to ensure their product is precisely produced
with no danger of negligence. In 1972, Bird Construction Company Limited entered into a contract
with Tuxedo Properties Company Limited of Winnipeg. Bird Construction was the general contractor

103). 2. ANALYSIS In Canada, when someone feels they have been wronged or injured by another,
they can seek compensation through the courts. This area of law is known as tort law which examines
conduct and consequences (Lin, 2010, p. 4). Tort law does not rely on promises or contracts. It is an
area of law that examines the obligations and duties one party has to another. In relation to business
and professionals, tort law aims to change the behavior of producers to prevent future harm or loss
(Lin, 2010, p. 9). In Winnipeg Condominium versus Bird Construction, the tort law focused on
negligence. As Justice La Forest indicated, the construction of the building resulted in a defect which
presented a potential for physical damage and a possible danger to the public. While there was no
mention of any involvement of an engineer as a defendant in the case, if the actions of an engineer
would have been in question, then that engineer could also have been named as a defendant. However,
the negligence tort was being directed primarily at the general contractor in this case. While the
Manitoba Court of Queen s Bench and the Manitoba Court of Appeal dismissed the case because they
found there was not a contractual relationship between Winnipeg Condominium and Bird
Construction and because there was no evidence of damage to property or person, the dismissals were
overturned at the Supreme Court level. The Supreme Court ruling written by Justice

My Experience At The Metropolitan Museum Of Art Essay
What a blessing I had today to experience in my own eyes wonderful sights and scenes. Many of you
already know that I m famous for the mystical experiences I ve had with Jesus and God in the past.
Perhaps you ve read my book? The Book of Margery Kempe? Yes, I Margery Kemp, got the
opportunity to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. There s over thousands of
beautiful artwork, one visit won t suffice. I was captivated by everything I saw, but I was especially
drawn into the magnificent gallery number 305. From the moment I stepped into gallery 305 I felt
some sort of connection. The timeframe of the artwork was relatable, the setting was familiar, and the
feeling was purely magical. The sounds, oh the sounds, they reminded me of my church back home. It
was angelic music, soft and heartfelt. It was the kind of music that drew hearts in, as it drew mine
back in the days. It was the same music that gave me a feeling of encouragement to carry out the ways
of God; the same music that made me want to repent from my sinful ways in business and day to day
wrongdoings. The walls were tall and the ceiling had tinted windows. On the sides, there were glass

The Importance Of Free Speech In Higher Education
American society identifies itself as a society where freedom and equal opportunity for learning and
expressing new ideas are abundant and unthwarted. The free speech principle, or the principle that all
speech and ideas should be able to move freely without being impeded on by government or an
institution, is a principle American society has taken many steps to solidify and safeguard. Despite our
best efforts, differentiating ideas and free speech continue to be segregated in favor of popular opinion
especially in higher education. Often times, students along with public speakers and professors are
silenced on campus because of conflict with the public s sentiment. This obstruction of the basic
American value of free speech in higher education comes with a detrimental cost to liberal education
and the free flow of ideas.
Liberal education (the idea that education should promote all ideas or beliefs) is designed for students
to explore the vastness of the world and its many ideas. Generally students who explore new fields
and majors through education feel a desire to promote these newfound ideas, especially if it involves
politics, on their college campus. Whether it be through a group, a club, or a form of media, students
have the ability to spread mass amounts of information and ideas to both open and unopened minds.
But even with the Constitutional right that protects these students ability to showcase new and
different ideas, this right is often times impeded on

Introductory Wall Text The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the
late 19th century Parisian anarchist journal La Revue Blanche, provides not only an insight into
popular fin de siècle French print culture, but also a beautiful case study in the techniques developed
by leading artists in the realm of fine art lithography. As a graphic art that makes use of the
immiscibility of grease and water, this planographic printing process provides a wide array of stylistic
possibilities as these various prints demonstrate. As the new invention of photography was rapidly
replacing the traditional print as the sole means for reproductions in the late 19th century, artistic
quality in prints became increasingly important and printmaking flourished as an independent art
form. Parisian print publishers and dealers soon began to produce albums of prints published regularly
in limited editions that were purchased by a rapidly growing group of ... Show more content on

The sheer range of stylistic effects within lithography is vast, and the artists of La Revue Blanche
display ever more inventive ways of working in this medium. For some of these artists, the Revue s
commission would become a hallmark moment in their career, and inspire much more sustained work
in the graphic arts. For others, it bolstered an already flourishing graphic career. In this sense, La
Revue played an active role in promoting the modern lithographic print, and is perhaps one of the
most successful examples of the symbiotic relationship between avant garde art prints and the

Anglo American Imperialism
The relationship between the domestic and the foreign characterises Early Modern representations of
Anglo American imperialism. By definition, the domestic pertains to the home country or household,
and that which concerns oneself. The foreign is the antithesis of this, something considered to be
unfamiliar and alien. As Eric Cheyfitz has asserted, this relationship was the grounding colonial desire
of what names itself domestic to dominate what it simultaneously distinguishes as foreign and
figurative. This implies that the process of deciding the domestic from the foreign lies within the
control of whatever faction wishes to gain dominance, thus the distinguishing factor begins as a
question of perception and discourse. This dynamic certainly ... Show more content on

Smith devised this reputation with his depictions of the heroic rescuer and the saviour of the then
starving Jamestown. With these supposed actions, the English nationals essentially perceived
Pocahontas as the helpful deserter of her own people. Such perceptions are continued when Smith
describes the indigenous Algonquian people to Queen Anne. He relates this through the domestic
standards of respectability. Taken prisoner by the power of Powhatan, their chiefe King, I receiued
from this great Saluage, exceeding great courtesie, especially from his sonne Nantaquaus the most
manliest, comeliest, boldest spirit I euer saw in a Saluage, and his sister Pocahontas, the Kings most
deare and wel beloued daughter. The native family occupy a space in which they are diplomatic and
courteous as well as alien and uncivilised. Here, the term chiefe king invokes the idea of a foreign
monarchy or royal family that commands a certain degree of respect because of their supposed
inherent nobility. However, Smith appears to decide this value based on his on imperialist conditions
about what is considered worthy of English respect, and what is not. This conditional respect only
occurs despite the uncivilised and savage nature of the natives, and despite the fact that they hold
Smith in captivity. Nantaquaus description demonstrates this. Smith encounters him as the most
exceptional image of a native that he has ever seen, and the masculine yet pleasant example of what
Native Americans ought to be. Despite this relative courtesy Smith attempts to demonstrate, his
perspective on their humanity fluctuates quite significantly even within this singular paragraph.
During the execution scene, the tribe are said to have inthralled Smith within their barbarous power,

Culture Influence On American Culture And Violence
A focus on culture can greatly inform the study of violence. Culture can be defined as the norms
within a community, and a community really could mean anything gender, location, ethnicity, religion,
sexuality, to name a few. This essay will consist of the different ways culture can inform, and help
grasp a more advanced understanding of violence in society. The culture of people living in poverty, of
certain religions and of the hip hop community can be great examples of how culture can inform the
study of violence.
The idea of culture linking with violence first sparked in the 1930 s, when American theorists
explained the fact that a lot of the violence and crime in America was based around financially
disadvantaged areas. (Annabel, T ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Theme Of Freedom In Lord Of The Flies
In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Golding is conveying that when there is no jurisdiction over
humans, things are bound to get out of hand. Freedom has no limits and gives many options for one
without chains binding and restricting their every movement. Golding shows us that humans are likely
to change when there is no authority over them. Firstly, without knowing that there are regulations or
rules, anyone is known to think that they can do whatever they want. They believe that all their
wrongdoings will be bypassed. Secondly, the eventual loss of order in the boys leads them to separate
paths and different tribes. Without a guardian figure guiding them and keeping together, some
individuals believe they can live on their own. Thirdly, humans are savage by nature and may go back
to their roots when the body thinks it needs to. There are several ways in which Golding illustrates the
change in the behaviours of the boys with their new found freedom; however, the most significant
thing is how they now act as people in general on the island.
First and foremost, when children are unsupervised, they tend to think that they can do anything
because they will not receive any inconvenience. For example, the British Naval Officer on shore
states that I should have thought that a pack of British boys would have been able to put up a better
show than that (page 202). This statement from the Officer illustrates that without an adult figure on
the island, the boys became mad and

Comparison of Harry Potter and Jane Eyre
Harry Potter and Jane Eyre are two novel characters who have quite a lot of similarities. In their early
childhood, both were raised as orphans, both experienced cruelty and unkind treatment from relatives
who were supposed to take care of them, both were given opportunity to study and live far away from
the people who treated them harshly, and both of them had a life changing experience in their
respective schools. Both Harry Potter and Jane Eyre grew up and lived with their relatives. Harry
Potter lived with the Dursleys while Jane lived with the Reeds. Reading their story and how they had

The life of Harry Potter changed when he was finally introduced to his true identity, a wizard, and had
to attend school at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As for Jane, she eventually had
the chance to be away from the Reeds and study at Lowood Institution, a school for orphaned girls.
School was both tough and pleasant for Harry and Jane. Both had instant friends and instant enemies.
Attending school is perhaps a taste of normalcy in their lives, except that their past still haunted and
defined their characters. Harry was known at school as the boy who lived having survived the attack
of a notorious wizard (Rowling 18); while Jane had to carry with her the rude description that her aunt
made of her which is deceitful which resulted in her being labeled as liar. As a result, both Harry and
Jane had to face the difficulty of trying to fit in and at times, had to bear the bitter consequences. Hard
as it may seem, Harry and Jane managed to get through the most difficult phases at school and
eventually found solace and comfort in the company of their true friends. Harry Potter discovers true
friendships at Hogwarts through Ron Weasly and Hermione Granger. They protect and defend each
other oftentimes with the help of Hagrid, a staff member at Hogwarts who had grown fond of them
and protects Harry in so many ways. Jane Eyre, on the other hand,

Within any company, managers must be reminded that the focus of a layoff is not on the actual
individual being released, but rather on the position itself. The layoff decision is made based on the
needs of the company and the position. If the individual is not fulfilling the position or if the position
is no longer necessary, the company must make the decision to let the person go. With this
perspective, managers can prevent as many negative emotions as possible and it will additionally
affect the communication between the manager and employee being laid off. When the employee is

pays the employee the full amount of their layoff benefits in one lump sum. However, it would not

Three Ways the Layoff May Affect the Company
Even if a layoff is completed successfully and with little resistance, there are possible negative effects
in which the decision can have on the company. These include:
* Decrease trust among valuable employees
* Hidden costs, such as severance packages, may cause the layoff to be ineffective
* Workplace morale may decrease
Companies are oftentimes hasty to undergo layoffs as they feel they are eliminating their ineffective
employees and building an environment full of strong and effective employees. However, this does
not guarantee that the valuable employees will remain loyal to the company and it is important that
managers do not depend too much on these employees. Layoffs can also decrease trust among the
valuable employees as they may worry that they too could be

Love is a very strong word, especially when you are directing it towards someone else. Love, and
affection towards someone can end in many ways, sometimes happiness, sadness, or sometimes it can

Findley Mentioned The Binoculars
Page 165 Structure The time is written with a period rather than a colon. I found this odd as I had
never seen this before. Ex. 11.55 rather than 11:55. I wonder if this is done intentionally, a change in
punctuation over time, or a stylistic choice. Rhetoric A French word is used in the middle of a
sentence: reveille which means to wake up (Findley 165). Is this done to refer to the setting in France?
Question Robert mentions that he had left his binoculars in his kit bag. I wonder if this is a conscious
decision to keep that part in the text. Immediately, it had reminded me of the German soldier as he too

Captain Leather will be remembered for when he dies. As Euripides had said, Never that which is

of his own? I feel this could also be alarge indication of Leather s insanity that has been caused by the
war. He is perhaps so insane that he felt justified in his actions by killing Devlin over the matter of the

The third issue was the process of the servers running the food. Since they are shorthanded on servers,
the scheduled servers help each other out by delivering each other s food which in turn takes away
time away from their own guests. Lastly, inputting the order creates a problem because most servers
are not properly trained or have forgotten the flow of inputting orders, some servers put the order in
right away and guests receive their food while they are still enjoying the appetizers or the soup/salad;
while others wait too long to put in the order for a steak dinner which takes longer to cook than a
simple pasta or meatballs which makes the guest be upset because they are not enjoying the food the
way they should. Overall, if Olive Garden were to improve these four issues, the restaurant would run
a lot smoother and guests will be happier and return more often to enjoy their dinner. In every
restaurant s serving process, there is always room to improve efficiency and service quality for
customers. We have created a process flow chart, a check sheet, and a service blue print for Olive

DTP and MMR vaccines, remain. It is not necessarily the attenuated virus portion of the vaccines, but
the ingredients which assist in the performance of the vaccines, that brings about concern. Some
studies report that, at various times and in certain populations, vaccines may pose greater ... Show

One reason that is resurging in the media is the notion that vaccines can be linked to autism. In the
middle is the result: cases of measles, mumps and rubella are occurring and populations of children
are at risk to contract these preventable viruses. It is therefore important to examine whether
vaccinations are indeed safe, if such vaccines pose adverse health risks, and exactly what the nature of
reasons are as to why some children do not receive their immunizations. Much of the controversy
initially arose out of a study published originally in 1998.
The Center of the Questions of Vaccine Safety In 1998 Wakefield et al. published the results of a study
in the British Journal Lancet titled Ileal lymphoid nodular hyperplasia, non specific colitis, and
pervasive developmental disorder in children (Wakefield, et al., 1998). What the researchers reported
is the results of a study of 12 children who had been previously healthy, but were now presenting at a
hospital with various complaints. These included a loss of acquired skills including language, and
diarrhea and gastrointestinal pain. These children underwent extensive tests which all returned with
various results. Through the study Wakefield et al. (1998) found a correlation between these children s

Buddhism In Contrast To Ancient Egyptian Religion
Buddhism in Contrast to Ancient Egyptian Religion
By: Will Burstein
Class: Empires Republics (E)
Religion is a system of beliefs and practices. It possesses a fixed set of beliefs or teachings that
attempt to analyze the deepest and most elusive of life s mysteries whilst also providing moralistic
guidelines. Religions are based on the concept of an existence of a higher power. Religions can be
either monotheistic (singular god), nontheistic (no gods) or polytheistic (many gods).
Buddhism was a nontheistic religion based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, The founder of
Buddhism. He became known as The Buddha after experiencing a sudden realization about death and
existence. In the remaining years of his life, he set out to teach ... Show more content on

The most noticeable difference between the two religions is the element of what/who is being
worshiped. In the Buddhist religion, there is no god, Only the Buddha. Gods were chosen not to be
worshiped because within the Buddha s teachings he taught that believing in gods was inessential for
those seeking to realize enlightenment. Although, in the Egyptian religion there was a plethora of
different gods that were being worshiped alongside the pharaoh. Another key difference between the
two religions is their pre death and after death rituals. From the teachings of the Buddha, it was shown
that death was an impermeable natural process of human life but after death, the soul will seek
attachment to a new body or a new life. However, The Egyptians believed that once dead, one s spirit
will transcend into an afterlife from their mummified body. One last difference between the two
religions is the structure of moral guidelines. Within the Buddhist religion, the middle path expressed
ethical approaches to life. Although, In the Egyptian religion, there was a lacking of a virtuous

Johannes Brahms Essay
The piece of music I have chosen is 4 Symphonien composed by Johannes Brahms, 1833 1897;
conducted by Herbert von Karajan, 1908 1989; produced by Hans Ludwig Hirsch; performed by
Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (Berliner Philharmoniker) (Deutsche Grammophon, 1990). According,
to Wikipedia (2017) Johannes Brahms, born 7 May 1833 3 April 1897 was a German composer and
pianist of the Romantic period. Born in Hamburg into a Lutheran family, Brahms spent much of his
professional life in Vienna, Austria (p. 1). They further write, His reputation and status as a composer

His music is firmly rooted in the structures and compositional techniques of the Classical masters (p.

Reflection
This selection of music contains 4 symphonies which each symphony has 4 movement in itself and is
performed by an orchestra. In each symphony I have come to realize that each symphony brilliantly
exhibits intriguing melodies that are mainly homophonic, but in some parts polyphonic.
The feeling I get as I listen to each section of the orchestra is that they have something to say to each
other and that the texture is linguistic and emotional as the string section sets the heart of the melody
and the percussion and woodwinds imitate or answer with their own melody.
The intensity in each symphony is expressed by the wide range of pitch as the violins played and the
horns and the flutes resonate their sound as a response to the string section create a very joyful and
pleasant listening experience. At times, the music makes me think I am in a Forrest or by a River or on
a journey experiencing the surprises of life or the challenges of it. I can feel each musical instruments
timbre and it sets my mood in each section of the symphony, sad or happy the rhythmic tones from the
orchestra also sounds like a lullaby at some points of the

Securing and Protecting Information
Information is the most valuable commodity that individuals and global corporations use to grow
financially, economically, and independently. The protection and security of the information is
essential. One of the most vital foundations of protection information is the authentication process.
The authentication process is utilized to protect computer and network systems against various types
of security threats, such as password cracking tools, password dictionary attacks, mistreatment of user
access rights, and any potential unauthorized attacked. Understanding how to authenticate users and
the accessible information that is readily available on system networks can help prevent future issues
as well as provide insight into the developmental process for new systems. In addition, authentication
is simply determining whether someone or some machine is, in fact, who or what they declared there
to be. This process directly reflects on and correlates to the readiness and ease of access to information
and the protection of it.
Authentication is an essential tool of the standard security model layout for most designs from the
ground up to build off. Identifying the individual or machine that is trying to gain access to
information can be serious tasking, that companies do not have the luxury of relaxing on.
Authentication is similar but

Music in Education
Why Music Is Important To Having A Complete Education
With school budget cuts, and no music instruments, more and more people are beginning to realize the
benefits of having music in education. Providing music as part of education helps develop intelligence
that leads to greater success in school and in life. Everyone from VH1 Save The Music to The
National Association For Music Education agree that, Every student in the nation should have an
education in the arts. These two companies are doing everything they can to get out the information
about music, and the importance of resorting music education as part of the core curriculum.

Michael E. DeBakey. M.D. says, Studying music encourages self discipline and diligence, traits that
carry over into intellectual pursuits and that leads to effective study and work habits. Dr, Fredrick
Tims also says that music education can result in significant decreases in anxiety, depression, and
loneliness will definitely result in a person being more relaxed, and having more success in life.
General Norman Schwarzkopf of the U.S. Army, retired said, During the Gulf War, the few
opportunities I had for relaxation I always listened to music, and it brought to me great peace of mind.
I think music education is very important and is very beneficial in many ways not just to children but
to everyone. Norman Schwarzkopf says, What a tragedy it would be if we lived in a world where
music was not taught to children. With efforts from VH1 Save the Music, and The National
Association for Music Education, schools that did not have music now are being given instruments
and money for their learning programs. This is helping kids all across America benefit from a
complete education. VH1 Save the Music reports about a boy, Troy Boston, and in closing I would
like to quote their story to show just how, in many ways music is benefiting his life.

Project Management And Construction Of The Project
All the financing, sourcing, bidding management and construction of the project are decided by MOR
internally7.
Eventually, the power centralized into three people former Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun, former
railway ministry chief engineer Zhang Shuguang and former China Railway Communication Group
Corp. Chairman Ma Cheng. Liu Zhijun, who had the main leadership responsibility for the accident
and acted as the executive sponsor, was sacked and detained in Feb, 2011, before it happened, being
accused of corruption6, while Ma Cheng died of a heart attack in the following weeks of the accident.
They were all accused of abuse of power and accepting bribes which somehow reduced the budget for
the contractual supplier. As a result, corner cut on materials during the construction is common and
poses a tremendous risk on riding the train.
Cause of failure 3 transparency and oversight: Transparency is always crucial in project management.
However, it has been a problem in Chinese society for thousand years. For example, after the accident,
the relevant authorities tried to bury the fallen carriages without thorough life inspection (one little girl
was found alive after the carriage was half buried) and cover up the fact from being exposed to the
public8. Even though it is not clear what happened during the project, it is believed that serious
transparency problems underlie the deadly accident. Who made the decision to award contracts? How
decisions were made for

Symbolism In The Truman Show
Truman Burbank is the star of a favored reality television show called The Truman Show. The show is
a live feed of Truman s life. Cameras continue to roll 24 hours a day, seven days a week, commercial
free. The whole world tunes in to watch and over the years has developed a connection with Truman.
However, Truman Burbank has no idea. He believes he lives in the town of Seahaven, a staged set on
which he has remained his whole life. In The Truman Show, Writer Andrew Niccol illustrates the
theme of perception versus reality through the use of dramatic irony, pathos, and symbolism. Andrew
Niccol s use of dramatic irony gives us an inside look on the life of Truman and how his whole
existence is a lie. Imagine if your entire family, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the movie, it was stated that Truman was the very first child ever to be adopted by
a corporation, even going as far as saying that he was born on live television. This brings out lots of
emotion and opinions about the show. Viewers feel lots of sympathy for Truman because nothing in
his life has ever been his own other than his reactions. That is what Christoff said made the show
work, We ve become bored with watching actors give us phony emotions. We re tired of pyrotechnics
and special effects. While the world he inhabits is in some respects counterfeit, there s nothing fake
about Truman himself. No scripts, no cue cards...It isn t always Shakespeare, but it s genuine. It s a
life (The Truman Show).
Niccol uses Truman Burbank s fear of water as a form of symbolism for Truman s isolation, not only
the physical seclusion of the dome from the outside world but also his feeling of solitude from his
friends and family in the world he thought was real. He, rightfully so, begins to feel like the whole
world is against him and this makes him feel alone. In contrast, Sylvia began to symbolize truth. She
was Truman s light at the end of the tunnel. She was the only real encounter in Truman s life, and this
was huge because she was what motivated him to gather up the courage to search for the truth. His
goal became to ultimately find Sylvia and run away with her to Fiji. This represents his

Love Of Adam And Eve
Adam and Eve were more than just a story about Gods first creations, they were a love story. Healthy,
resilient, and loving relationships are something that all humans crave by nature. Adam and Eve are
perfect examples of this type of love. Jeffery Brown explains in his article What we can learn about
love from Adam and Eve , the importance of the relationship between the two (2017). One thing that
can be learned from the story of Adam and Eve about love is that it is normal not to want to be alone.
In the Genesis God said, it is not good for man to be alone , this is when he decided to create Eve to be
Adams companion. Being alone or isolated is one of the biggest contributors of unhappiness because
humans crave to relate to other people. When two people are joined together in a healthy loving
relationship centered around God, they will enjoy happiness together.
From Adam and Eve, we also learn that love will be challenging. Although Adam and Eve
experienced challenges they did not let that stop them from loving one another. Adam and Eve
disobeyed God and were kicked out of the garden, but they continued to love each other. This shows
people to be resilient and even in hard times there can still be love. Lastly Adam and Eve teach that
relationships should be balanced and have equality. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God made Eve from taking a rib out of Adam to create a woman. God decided not to create women
from the dust like he did the other creatures instead, he made her from man. The reason God did this is
to show that man and women are two equal halves of a whole. God also created women from men to
show that they are the same being. Females were not created as second to man or separate but instead
made from the initial parts as a helper. Helper Is not meant to be a servant or of less value but as a
companion. The help of a woman to a man Is seen as powerful in the bible as women were created as

  • 2. Dysrhythmia Research Paper A normal heart beats 60 to 100 beats per minute. However, those who suffer from arrhythmia (also known as dysrhythmia) have an irregular or abnormal heartbeat; either too fast or too slow. It is important to diagnose arrhythmia early because when the heart beats irregularly, the blood is not being pumped properly which could lead to heart defects and improper blood flow throughout the body. People who are diagnosed with this disorder are at risk of future heart disease. Arrhythmia is not contagious but some heart rhythm disorders are often inherited, so if one person is diagnosed with an arrhythmia, other family members may be affected too. Fortunately, there are life changing actions that can reduce the risk of developing arrhythmia or heart disease. There is no cure for it but depending on the type and severity of the arrhythmia, medication and other forms of treatment can reduce symptoms and regulate the heartbeat. This includes: regular exercising, controlling cholesterol levels, eating a balanced diet, stopping or limiting caffeine drinks, reducing high blood pressure, and avoiding alcohol or tobacco products. It is also important to always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being pregnant can stress the heart and contribute to the development of arrhythmia. • 3. Rhetorical Analysis Of State Of Oregon Vs Kipland A Rhetorical Analysis of State of Oregon v. Kipland Philip Kinkel Introduction The human brain is a remarkably intricate organ. Therefore, simple mutations in its complexity can result in devastating conditions leading to acts of violence. Kinkel, a fifteen year old boy, demonstrates his partaking in the unnecessary murders of both his parents and innocent bystanders. Kinkel is said to have shown signs of his intentions through inconspicuous matters. Later holding the guilt of four deaths and twenty six attempts via semi automatic weaponry (para. 5). The mental instability of the subject is proven to be in effect, and a suitable cause for these behaviors. The document in question is The State of Oregon v. Kipland Philip Kinkel , in which encompasses a trial the young boy capable of murder. Kinkel is convicted of the absolute minimal sentence for the nature of his crimes, followed by his seemly confession. The defense and prosecution contemplate proper arguments given the defendants substantial witnesses to the crimes and articles of law. Justice is debated among the courts and how to satisfy these reprimands. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos, and pathos to support the higher courts decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was constitutional and just. Summary of The Court document The original conviction of Kinkel was on behalf of four counts of murder, and twenty six counts attempted murder, in which the defendant is set to face one hundred ... In addition, I will use as a reference London Calling (album) by The Clash, showing that this was a turning point that marked the end of punk. I) Creation of punk GARAGE ROCK Rock n roll emerged in the mid 50s, in the United States. Early 1960s: the vision of adults about this new style blocks the movement very quickly. Then the majors wanted to replace rock by twist and surf music. English bands like The Animals, The Beatles, The Kinks and The Rolling Stones, influenced by the blues appeared. This movement gives rise to many bands claiming the legacy of punk and brings a mix of genres, much more complex and open. I will introduce iconic albums here. Check on the corpus. II) The punk myth A) Original punk The Ideology The aesthetic I will discuss here the lyrics of the main bands mentioned with a study of the themes. The basis of the punk thought: individual freedom (do it yourself), challenged the established order. Inspired by older ideologies like anarchy or nihilism. Associated with a more recent concepts like antifascist anti racism. In everyday life: messy, improvisation. Punk was characterized by the notion of subversion and absolute individualism. Self deprecating, embezzlement Codes and especially destruction of social barriers are used to transmit their messages. This philosophy had been described by Craig O Hara in 1995, in The philosophy of punk. It is often summed up in the slogan no future but it is an overly simplistic approach because the full sentence is No future for you ... You being the establishment of this period. The Identifying Factors in the Development of Aggression and Violence in Youth Today Tragic events like the shootings at Columbine High School capture public attention and concern, but are not typical of youth violence. Most adolescent homicides are committed in inner cities and outside of school. They most frequently involve an interpersonal dispute and a single victim. On average, six or seven youths are murdered in this country each day. Most of these are inner city minority youths. Such acts of violence are tragic and contribute to a climate of fear in schools and communities. Successful early adjustment at home increases the likelihood that children will overcome such individual challenges and not become violent. However, exposure to violent or aggressive behavior within a family or peer group may influence a child in that direction. Types and Severity of Antisocial Behavior The types and severity of antisocial behaviors exhibited by youths vary greatly and include lying, bullying, truancy, starting fights, vandalism, theft, assault, rape, and homicide. As a rule, the older the age of onset, the fewer the number of antisocial youths who will engage in seriously aggressive and violent behavior. Longitudinal studies show that many children who engage in antisocial behavior in childhood continue to do so at least through adolescence. Longitudinal research has identified types of youth who progress to adolescent antisocial behavior, multiple pathways through which it develops and persists, and the multiple factors that shape this risk. This research has identified two types of life course trajectories: life course persistent, which is viewed as a form of psycho pathology, and adolescence limited, which is identified only in select social situations. The distinction between these two types of individuals is very useful, both as a way of thinking about developmental knowledge and as a tool for targeting the right interventions for antisocial youth. • 8. Paper On Predestination 1. Predestination has always been, for me, a tricky topic/doctrine. I find it very difficult to reconcile God s choosing the elect with the implications for those who are non elect. It seems very contradictory, and contrary to His nature, that an all loving God, who loves unregenerate persons as much (?) as regenerate persons, would essentially choose, whether actively or passively, individuals to spend eternity in hell. Admittedly, my own theological grasp of hell is somewhat lacking, as I don t really understand how allowing people to live in torment for all of eternity can be a loving action on God s part, although I know that it must somehow be loving. While I despise universalism, I can understand why Christians might wish to twist their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I find the argument that the repentance required for salvation can be considered a work to be interesting, but ultimately incorrect. It seems to me that repentance, defined as the abandonment of sin, inspired by godly sorrow for our sin (Erickson 352), is still enabled, or even given to us, by the Lord, without whose influence we would not be capable, in our total depravity, of experiencing a truly godly sorrow over our sin. Also, I disagree with the argument that repentance moves us away from salvation by faith alone, as repentance is part of faith. True faith cannot be separated from repentance (352), as they are interwoven together, or two sides of the same coin (Zuck 5). For example, the self stated purpose of the Gospel of John is so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name (English Standard Version, John 20:31). The entire book of John, which is clearly evangelistic and dedicated to bringing people to faith in Christ (as God), does not speak of repentance at all, indicating its position as an aspect of conversion alongside faith, rather than as a separate entity in the process of salvation. Indeed, if repentance is distinct from faith as a requirement to be saved, then the full gospel is not given by John (Ironside 37 38), which is at odds with his evangelistic purpose. Both repentance and faith are acts, yes, but not works in and of themselves (or if they are, they are primarily done or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Book The Wolves Of The Walls, The Sandm Dream... Throughout the second semester of my first year attending Rogers State University, I learned valuable life lasting lessons, concepts, and morals that will forever change the way that I view the world and the people that make up the cultures and societies in it. Multiple works that I studied and discussed in class consist of works by Neil Gaiman such as The Graveyard Book, The Wolves in the Walls, The Sandman: Dream Country, and The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Another important work that influenced me along with the Gaiman works is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. These literary works influenced me to think about the meaning of life and the purpose in my life because my life is not always guaranteed to be here tomorrow. Although I still take things for granted, I have learned from studying these works that the things in this life should be appreciated because they have meaning and a purpose. While I studied multiple literary works this semester, I believe that the five works discussed above had the greatest impact on me as a student, a brother, and a friend because they taught me important values I will always cherish and reflect upon in the wide, wide world. The first work that had an important influence on me was The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. This piece of literature follows a boy named Bod who is adopted by the inhabitants of a graveyard that consist of ghosts, witches, and a vampire. The bacterial content of each meat sample is vital information in regards to improvements within the meat processing industry, and gives reason for changing or sustaining current feeding and processing conditions. Understanding which methods taken in processing meat that is sold to the public is a matter of public health, as obtaining and maintaining lower levels of bacteria in meats will reduce the likelihood of succumbing to illness from the consumption of such products by the end consumer. Samples from meat source B showed similar trends. Samples from meat sources C and D did not provide statistically significant results, and thus provided inconclusive data; each of these spread plates had a recorded sample average of 0.00E+00 to represent this (Chart 1). The pour plates had dynamic results, the most interesting of which arose from source A2; this pour plate at a concentration of 1.00E 03 grew colonies that were too numerous to count, then decreased to 77 colonies at the next dilution level of 1.00E 04, but increased again at the following dilution of 1.00E 05 (Table 1). Source A3 was similarly dynamic at dilution levels 1.00E 03 and 1.00E 04, with colony counts recorded at 188 and 268, respectively, and then falling to levels that were not statistically significant (Table 2). This data contradicts the predicted trend; however, all other recorded data followed the ideal trend. Table 1: Recorded Data of Bacterial Enumeration Spread Plates Pour Plates ... • 11. Essay on The Boondock Saints’ Positive Deviance The movie The Boondock Saints provides an excellent example of positive deviance through innovation. The Social theory of deviance can easily explain the brothers actions. The movie can be used to study deviance as the brothers kill people who are mafia members, breaking the norms of society. Even though the acts they are committing are clearly illegal and deviant, the people of South Boston do not react in a negative way. Since the Social theory is very broad, it will be easier to look at the brother s acts under three sub theories: Labeling, Conflict and Strain theories. The Social theory of deviance explains why people break social norms, and what their motivation may be for doing so. The brothers undoubtedly break one of the ... Because of the positive connotation of the label that they are given by the media, they realize that the people living in the city would not have a major problem with them killing the top members of the mafia to make the city more peaceful. As they become better at killing the top mafia members, some of the citizens even go as far as to call the brothers Angels . With the majority of the city supporting the brothers killings, they see no reason why they should stop. Instead they take it to the next level with the help of more positive labels, and make it more of an occupation, they compare themselves to 7 11 as they are not always doing business, but they are always open. Without the labels that the media gives them, it would not be possible to continue on with their work of reducing crime. If the labels were originally negative after their first encounter with the two mafia members, there would be no reason for them to continue, as no one would approve of their acts. After the last scene of the movie, there are interviews with the citizens of South Boston. Fallingwater was built in a Nature Reserve, which provides a basic pure natural environment. Rather than have the waterfall in occupant s view, the designer of the house, Wright, placed the house right on the top of the waterfall to make it a part of occupant s lives. The integration of the house with waterfall is successful in creating harmony between nature and man. Fallingwater redefined the relationship between man, nature, and architecture (Adelyn,2010). We and feel the harmony with nature from many aspects. The breaking water could be heard constantly throughout the entire house. Clear glass is used to connect the house with nature. The west was thought of as the land of the future and change. People would move out west to start over . Beginning in the 1860s the Sisters of Charity began to play a significant role in helping the homeless children in New York City. One way the Sisters of Charity helped children was by allowing mothers of unwanted newborns to leave their babies in the sisters care. Due to the growing Catholic political power (Gordon, Location 210) the Sisters of Charity won a regular state subsidy by 1873 as well as a grant for a new building (Gordon, Location 210). Hansel And Gretel Moral Lesson Hansel and Gretel is one of the Brothers Grimm best known fairytales with good reason: it resonates deeply with children and their greatest fears: being abandoned by their parents, being lost, and being eaten, and represents a horrific parental ethical dilemma: discard your children to save yourselves, and, finally, teaches us that both good and evil moral behaviors have consequences. This is an old fairy tale with great depth and lessons that echo through time into modern day. The next morning, they give the children their last piece of bread, and walk them back into the forest, where they leave them asleep by a fire. This time, Hansel has thrown out the bread crumbs to create a path back home, but discovers that birds have eaten the crumbs. As they descend deeper into the forest, they realize that they are lost. Three days later and weak with hunger, they hear a bird singing; it is a beautiful snow white bird sitting on a bough (Patten, 2013). The bird finishes its song and flies ahead of them, landing on the roof of a little house made of gingerbread, and covered with cakes with candied windowpanes. As they are hungry, they begin eating the house. Hansel takes a part of the roof to eat, and Gretel eats at the windowpane. Shortly, an old lady emerges from the house, invites them in, feeds them well, and puts them to bed. The next morning, she lifts Hansel while he is sleeping and locks him in a stable. She then awakens Gretel and it is revealed that she is a witch with plans to fatten up Hansel so she can eat him. Gretel is put to work, helping to fatten up her brother. Engineers, architects, and contractors need to be respectful of their duty of care to ensure their product is precisely produced with no danger of negligence. ANALYSIS In Canada, when someone feels they have been wronged or injured by another, they can seek compensation through the courts. This area of law is known as tort law which examines conduct and consequences (Lin, 2010, p. 4). Tort law does not rely on promises or contracts. It is an area of law that examines the obligations and duties one party has to another. In relation to business and professionals, tort law aims to change the behavior of producers to prevent future harm or loss (Lin, 2010, p. 9). In Winnipeg Condominium versus Bird Construction, the tort law focused on negligence. As Justice La Forest indicated, the construction of the building resulted in a defect which presented a potential for physical damage and a possible danger to the public. While there was no mention of any involvement of an engineer as a defendant in the case, if the actions of an engineer would have been in question, then that engineer could also have been named as a defendant. However, the negligence tort was being directed primarily at the general contractor in this case. While the Manitoba Court of Queen s Bench and the Manitoba Court of Appeal dismissed the case because they found there was not a contractual relationship between Winnipeg Condominium and Bird Construction and because there was no evidence of damage to property or person, the dismissals were overturned at the Supreme Court level. The Importance Of Free Speech In Higher Education American society identifies itself as a society where freedom and equal opportunity for learning and expressing new ideas are abundant and unthwarted. The free speech principle, or the principle that all speech and ideas should be able to move freely without being impeded on by government or an institution, is a principle American society has taken many steps to solidify and safeguard. Despite our best efforts, differentiating ideas and free speech continue to be segregated in favor of popular opinion especially in higher education. Often times, students along with public speakers and professors are silenced on campus because of conflict with the public s sentiment. This obstruction of the basic American value of free speech in higher education comes with a detrimental cost to liberal education and the free flow of ideas. Liberal education (the idea that education should promote all ideas or beliefs) is designed for students to explore the vastness of the world and its many ideas. Generally students who explore new fields and majors through education feel a desire to promote these newfound ideas, especially if it involves politics, on their college campus. As a graphic art that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and water, this planographic printing process provides a wide array of stylistic possibilities as these various prints demonstrate. As the new invention of photography was rapidly replacing the traditional print as the sole means for reproductions in the late 19th century, artistic quality in prints became increasingly important and printmaking flourished as an independent art form. By definition, the domestic pertains to the home country or household, and that which concerns oneself. The foreign is the antithesis of this, something considered to be unfamiliar and alien. As Eric Cheyfitz has asserted, this relationship was the grounding colonial desire of what names itself domestic to dominate what it simultaneously distinguishes as foreign and figurative. This implies that the process of deciding the domestic from the foreign lies within the control of whatever faction wishes to gain dominance, thus the distinguishing factor begins as a question of perception and discourse. With these supposed actions, the English nationals essentially perceived Pocahontas as the helpful deserter of her own people. Such perceptions are continued when Smith describes the indigenous Algonquian people to Queen Anne. He relates this through the domestic standards of respectability. Taken prisoner by the power of Powhatan, their chiefe King, I receiued from this great Saluage, exceeding great courtesie, especially from his sonne Nantaquaus the most manliest, comeliest, boldest spirit I euer saw in a Saluage, and his sister Pocahontas, the Kings most deare and wel beloued daughter. The native family occupy a space in which they are diplomatic and courteous as well as alien and uncivilised. Here, the term chiefe king invokes the idea of a foreign monarchy or royal family that commands a certain degree of respect because of their supposed inherent nobility. However, Smith appears to decide this value based on his on imperialist conditions about what is considered worthy of English respect, and what is not. This conditional respect only occurs despite the uncivilised and savage nature of the natives, and despite the fact that they hold Smith in captivity. Nantaquaus description demonstrates this. Smith encounters him as the most exceptional image of a native that he has ever seen, and the masculine yet pleasant example of what Native Americans ought to be. Despite this relative courtesy Smith attempts to demonstrate, his perspective on their humanity fluctuates quite significantly even within this singular paragraph. • 25. What Is The Theme Of Freedom In Lord Of The Flies In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Golding is conveying that when there is no jurisdiction over humans, things are bound to get out of hand. Freedom has no limits and gives many options for one without chains binding and restricting their every movement. Golding shows us that humans are likely to change when there is no authority over them. Firstly, without knowing that there are regulations or rules, anyone is known to think that they can do whatever they want. They believe that all their wrongdoings will be bypassed. Secondly, the eventual loss of order in the boys leads them to separate paths and different tribes. Without a guardian figure guiding them and keeping together, some individuals believe they can live on their own. Thirdly, humans are savage by nature and may go back to their roots when the body thinks it needs to. There are several ways in which Golding illustrates the change in the behaviours of the boys with their new found freedom; however, the most significant thing is how they now act as people in general on the island. First and foremost, when children are unsupervised, they tend to think that they can do anything because they will not receive any inconvenience. For example, the British Naval Officer on shore states that I should have thought that a pack of British boys would have been able to put up a better show than that (page 202). Later that day Mr. Smith confronts Mary about not receiving therapy, expresses his discontent, and questions the integrity of her and the facility.8 The ethical dilemma is uncovered when Mary realizes that her decision to follow the facility s procedure has had a negative impact on Mr. Smith s well being. The obvious bad here is that he won t be provided access to the physical therapy services that he believes will benefit him. The less obvious is that Mr. Smith has been denied his autonomy the right to follow his own plan,7(p.147) and the ethical principle of beneficence the moral requirement to do what is best for the individual patient,5(p.68) has been ignored. Since they are shorthanded on servers, the scheduled servers help each other out by delivering each other s food which in turn takes away time away from their own guests. Lastly, inputting the order creates a problem because most servers are not properly trained or have forgotten the flow of inputting orders, some servers put the order in right away and guests receive their food while they are still enjoying the appetizers or the soup/salad; while others wait too long to put in the order for a steak dinner which takes longer to cook than a simple pasta or meatballs which makes the guest be upset because they are not enjoying the food the way they should. Overall, if Olive Garden were to improve these four issues, the restaurant would run a lot smoother and guests will be happier and return more often to enjoy their dinner. Healthy, resilient, and loving relationships are something that all humans crave by nature. Adam and Eve are perfect examples of this type of love. Jeffery Brown explains in his article What we can learn about love from Adam and Eve , the importance of the relationship between the two (2017). One thing that can be learned from the story of Adam and Eve about love is that it is normal not to want to be alone. In the Genesis God said, it is not good for man to be alone , this is when he decided to create Eve to be Adams companion. Being alone or isolated is one of the biggest contributors of unhappiness because humans crave to relate to other people. When two people are joined together in a healthy loving relationship centered around God, they will enjoy happiness together. From Adam and Eve, we also learn that love will be challenging. Although Adam and Eve experienced challenges they did not let that stop them from loving one another.
