Political Viewpoints In College Essay
College can be a very different experience for many people especially when it comes to your political
viewpoints. Your viewpoints in college vary a lot on your social interactions. During your
adolescence, studies show that most of your political viewpoints come from your parents. Children
tend to take in political viewpoints from their parents involuntarily (Ginsberg 148). While the child
grows older and begins contact with peers and social media, their viewpoints can possibly differ from
those of their childhood. College for a young adult is a time to express yourself and learn new things.
When being in contact with many different people and learning what they think about different topics,
you open yourself to a real life social media in which you find people who can agree with you on
topics and even disagree with you. There have been many cases in which a person has changed their
entire political opinion just through their social interactions. We as humans thrive on social interaction
and so the thoughts from our peers play a big role in how we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dowling college in Long Island, New York has a much different political attitude than that of
University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. My effect of being in Long Island for two
of my college years has allowed me to think about different topics and viewpoints than when at home.
Being that New York is a fairly democratic state, the viewpoints from the students and professors were
much different than in North Dakota. North Dakota however, I feel that there is an even distribution of
democrats and republicans. Over my two and a half years at college, my political views have not
changed but only broadened. Since I have taken multiple political science classes, I have a greater
knowledge of how the government works and what different topics and controversies there

Complications Of Formulas And Soldations In A Business
Dear Mr. Bill, I am very happy that your business is doing well, I would be more than happy to assist
you with your questions and concerns, below is a written report of my suggestions and
recommendations in having your business runs smoothly and successful. 1) You have created a
spreadsheet to help keep track of your expenses and I have noticed that you have not totaled your
expenses. In spreadsheets there are ways that you can total by using formulas or functions. For
example at the top of the spreadsheet from A H these are called columns so in the F column type in
=SUM (B5:E5) then you hit the enter key on the keyboard. To get through each day in each row in
column F you repeat the steps but this time you changed only the number for ... Show more content on

With the Peer to Peer Network it is decentralized and can connect up to ten computers at once, each
computer is plugged into a hub or a switch. Each worker who is an administrator, each has a local
account, each computer has a name to it, and each user can control access from their computer to
another user s computer, each user can access or share files in other for that to happen the user need to
know the name of computer they wish to connect to and access to printing or scanning may be
cumbersome as usernames and passwords being remembered is vital in order to gain access. It needs
absolutely no training and it is not costly, however as mentioned earlier remembering the usernames
and passwords are vital. I would recommend that you choose Peer to peer because it is costless and
easy to use, besides having to remember all the computer names and passwords. The second Network
is the Client/Server Network, the Client/Server Network is a centralized network, reasons for, all
computers will be connected to a server which is in the centre there will be one central administrator,
you could assign a staff or you could be the own administrator, only the administrator decides what to
share and not share, this means files will be a lot safer and some files will remain secure. It also
connects up to ten computers or more. This network is quite expensive and you will need to be trained
to use it. This network would

Introduction
The Falklands War, or La Guerra de Las Malvinas in Spanish, also referred to as The South Atlantic
War. It was a small, but furiously loud conflict between two countries across different ends of the
globe, both fighting for a few small islands in which most of the population farm sheep for a living.
Before going any deeper into the essay, the selected topic is personally a very difficult area to delve
into, as my Argentine background has always made me see this conflict differently. This is from the
prolonged exposure to Argentine culture, which the Falkland War greatly affected, including my
family and friend s history to the war, and events around it, which is also why I chose it.
The history of the Islands has already had a long history before the war, in 1690 a British sailor John
Strong discovers the islands, half a decade later, and they claim the Islands as a British Colony. During
Britain s, delayed claim, Spain joins into the dividing of the islands, later France also intervenes with
the colony, managing to get a slice too. Between 1764 and 1767, initiated by the French after the 7 ...

They also wanted to plan diplomatic agreements that would be made instead of a war. Despite orders,
a few Junta personnel joined a group of scrap metal merchants wanting to dispute something with the
islanders and planted a flag on the South Georgia Island (island near the Falklands, also much smaller
in size), during this entire time, Britain was not informed, and only heard about the takeover through
complaints about them not leaving the

Steroids Damage both Athletes and Sports Essay
Athletes have passed or failed many tests in their life time. Either on the field or off the field it s safe
to say it would be better if they pass. Failing a test in the class room just means a bad grade. Failing a
test in the sports world means an athlete can lose their job, get suspended, lose money, and lose their
loyal fans and much more. Athletes can be drug tested for basically anything whether it is illegal drugs
or performance enhancing drugs. Steroids are obviously the most well known drug in sports. There are
three different types of steroids. Anabolic steroids are chemically derived from testosterone. They are
seen in growth and thickening of the body s non reproductive tract tissues and have a decrease in body
fat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roughly 100 players tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2003, the first year of testing.
(Tomase par 2) Of those 100 names that tested positive, one very important name that sticks out is
Barry Bonds. Barry Bonds is the all time leading home run hitter with 762 home runs. Bonds is
charged with 10 counts of making false declarations to a grand jury and one count of obstruction of
justice. ( Bonds personal trainer S03) Greg Anderson was his personal trainer who collected urine
samples from Bonds. After spending a year in jail, Anderson is considered a vital witness for the
government as it tries to prove Bonds lied to a grand jury investigating steroid use by athletes. ( Bonds
personal trainer S03) Another big name on that list is former league most valuable player Alex
Rodriguez who is arguably the best player in baseball the past couple seasons. He tested positive for
two different anabolic steroids. The mentality of needing to hit a 3 run homer with nobody on base. It
s that pressure that drove him to experiment with banned substances. (Roberts and Epstein par. 3) Alex
Rodriguez says I felt like I had all the weight in the world on top of me and I needed to perform and
perform at a high level everyday. (qtd. in Roberts and Epstein par. 5)

screen as Tx), meaning its thyroid has been removed; and the third is hypophysectomized (abbreviated
on the screen as Hypox), meaning its pituitary gland has been removed. The pituitary gland is also
known as the hypophysis, and removal of this organ is called a hypophysectomy. To the top left of the
screen are three syringes with various chemicals inside: propylthiouracil, thyroid stimulating hormone

The Traditional Global Environment Evolved Into The Modern...
Question 1: Starting in 1900, the traditional global environment evolved into the modern global
system. As international relations scholars have attempted to examine and explain this change, six
worldviews have emerged. These are Realism, Liberalism, Idealism, Neo Marxism, Constructivism,
and Feminism. In an essay format answer, you are to discuss the main characteristics of each
worldview. One of the peculiarities of research of international relations is the variety of conceptual
constructions and competing theoretical approaches. This leads to the fact that an important
epistemological issue of research on international relations is the problem of classification and
typology of existing theories. Political Realism is accurately and ... Show more content on

The motive of international relations is the struggle of states to expand its influence in the external
environment (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 7). According to liberalism, complex interdependence between
states plays a huge role for each state. Liberalism considers all international organizations to be
extremely important. Economics became more important than military power (Kaarbo and Lee Ray,9).
Thomas Woodrow Wilson was the representatives of idealism. The basis of the idealism is a set of
abstract ethical and legal ideals, norms, and criteria (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 12). The Key
representatives of neo Marxism were Immanuel Wallerstein, Andre Frank, Robert Cox. The world was
divided not only by states, but also by more important structural elements classes. The structure of the
world economy is determined by the division of all countries based on economic indicators in two
parts: center and periphery (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 15). Constructivists believed that the focus of the
theory should be directed to the study of processes. The main task of the state is not confined to the
issue of security. States may have long term common interests and influence the international system.
The interests of the state were formed in the process of constructing . All subjects of a policy change

Hiv And The World Health Organization
HIV/AIDS is a an acronym that has become synonymous with the weakening of the human immunity
system and has become a constant source of anguish for the infected and their families. According to
the Center for Disease Control, more than 1.2 million people in the US are living with HIV. What may
be worrying is that 1 in 8 persons are unaware of their positive status. Despite the number of new HIV
diagnoses has decreasing by 19% between 2005 and 2014 , there is still a lot of unsightly statistics that
paint a picture of uncertainty regarding its eradication. HIV is incurable, The only relief comes in the
form of ARVs which help the body adapt to the weakened immune system. Globally, the World Health
Organization, puts the numbers at over 100 million people and most of them in developing countries.
A terrible scourge indeed and a relevant disease to analyze closely.
A virus by definition is is an intracellular parasite with either a RNA or DNA genome that are
surrounded by a protective protein coat. They transfer their genetic material to infected cells .The

Character Analysis Of James Watson In The Novel The Double...
James Watson James Watson is both the narrator and author of the novel The Double Helix. The
reader begins to understand this character by the actions and ways this character is treated. He is at the
time 19 years old and graduated from the University of Chicago. James Watson is a character the
reader can relate to with events such as James not just focusing on science, but enjoying parties and
meeting the girls at Cambridge University. He is portrayed as a very determined scientist as he
throughout the novel. He shows this when he studies RNA, bacterial sextuality and most importantly
DNA. He dreamed of achieving scientific glory through genetics and microbiology. Watson uses most
of his time working and struggling with Francis Crick to create a DNA model. Him and Crick work
well together even through some road blocks and bumps. Along the way Watson also works with
Maurice Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin. Rosalind Franklin provides conflict because she has difficulty
at first working and getting along with the others. This group of scientist navigates a new world of
discoveries as they race other scientists to the DNA structure. They are motivated by this competition
and they use the mistakes of the other scientist to their advantage. For example when they get hold of
a draft of Pauling s most recent breakthrough on DNA. They are shocked and disappointed to find out
it looks as though he has cracked it, however it turns out he has made some very noticeable mistakes.

Persuasive Essay On Motor Learning
Last year as a 2nd bachelor degree seeking student, I volunteered to participate in a motor learning
study about putting golf balls that aimed to replicate previous studies [my basis for my proposal] that
revealed learners studying and practicing a motor skill with the expectation of having to teach the skill
could experience enhanced motor learning compared to learners expecting to be tested on the skill.
One idea for future research was to conduct a similar study with novice, student pilots who had never
received flight instruction to attempt a replication of similar findings in the development of motor
learning theory, specifically the development of theory regarding the acquisition phase of learning a
new skill (Daou, Lohse, Miller, 2016).
What key suggestion for future research did the authors address in their study?
The study addressed a shortcoming in the small body of literature indicating that expecting to teach
may enhance the learning of declarative knowledge, such as academic information. Previous research
had not investigated the effects of expecting to teach on motor learning [such as putting a golf ball],
which relies heavily on procedural knowledge. They sought to determine if the participant s
[expecting to teach] learning was indirectly enhanced by motivation to spend more time studying and
practicing or if the participant s learning was directly [as revealed in a previous study] improved after
statistically controlling the quantity of studying and

Violence In The Grapes Of Wrath
We as Americans have seen our share of violence whether it is first hand, through the media, or in
history books. We have seen the pain and struggle that these people must go through in order to
survive. This novel, The Grapes of Wrath, relates to some of the many times of violence and cruelty
that this America has seen.
During the Dust Bowl, hundreds of thousands of southerners faced many hardships, which is the basis
of the novel called The Grapes of Wrath. It was written to portray the harsh conditions during the Dust
Bowl. When one considers the merit of this novel, one thinks, how can Americans treat other
Americans so horribly. After reviewing American History, the mistreatment of the quot;Okies quot; in

In chapter 21, the workers are in California and the mild people of California find in the Okies what
they have yet to experience fear and desperation. Sensing the extent to which the migrants are willing
to work, the locals begin to fear for their own jobs, and most importantly, for their own property. In
fearful defense, they attack the Okies as marauders who mean to destroy both populations through
their desperation. This fear transforms into hostility, which reveals itself in the story through the
deputies and managers who abuse and assault the Joads, as well as other migrant families in the
workers camps.
Throughout the novel there are several symbols used to develop the theme; man verses a hostile
environment. Each symbol used in the novel show examples of both extremes. Some represent man
that struggles against the environment; others paint a clear picture of the feelings of the migrants. As
each symbol is presented chronologically through the novel, like the turtle at the beginning and then
the dust. They all come together at the end to paint a clear picture of the conditions, treatment and
feelings the people (migrants) as they make their journey through the novel to the West.

that are happening all around. Whether it be racial or not, this violence will not

Star Of David Research Paper
Have you ever seen a symbol that seems to be two interlocking triangles? If so, you ve probably
known it to be the Star of David. Therefore, you may have seen it when you were learning about the
Holocaust. There is so much more history behind it than just the Holocaust. The Star of David has
been used by a variety of religions, but it was most popularized in Judaism. ¨ Originally, the Hebrew
name was Magen David, which means Shield of David.¨ (www.aish.com) Isn t it ironic that it means
Shield of David, and the two interlocking triangles appear to look like a shield. This star is located on

everything in the world, as people began to talk about it, the word spreads all around until everyone

Child Soldiers in India
The military use of young children takes three distinct forms: children can take direct part in hostilities
(child soldiers), or they can be used in support roles such as porters, spies, messengers, look outs, and
sexual slaves; or they can be used for political advantage either as human shields or in propaganda.
Throughout history and in many cultures, children have been extensively involved in military
campaigns even when such practices were supposedly against cultural morals. Since the 1970s a
number of international conventions have come into effect that try to limit the participation of children
in armed conflicts, nevertheless the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers reports that the use of

following the 2004 Asian tsunami. * Child recruitment and deployment
The lack of systematic birth registration, particularly in rural areas, made it difficult to verify ages,
making it impossible to rule out the possibility that under 18s might participate actively in hostilities.
There were active recruitment drives targeting youths , particularly in the Kashmir valley. * Detention
of children
There was evidence that in areas of armed conflict children accused of being members of armed
groups were detained, often in violation of national legislation designed to protect children in conflict
with the law. In Manipur it was alleged that the system established under the Juvenile Justice Act 2000
was non functioning due to inadequate resources; in particular no juvenile home had been established.
As a result, security forces (including police) who detained children in anti insurgency operations
were reportedly claiming that they were over 18 when

Tennyson s Themes In The Story Of The Lady Of Shalott
How does Tennyson use the story of the Lady of Shalott to reflect on the situation of the artist in
modern times? Lord Tennyson perfectly describes the situation of the artist, in the sense that an artist
should find himself in solitude, perfect silence and isolation. This seems to be the perfect environment
for a poet, as if the whole world disappears and he is alone with his thoughts. But we can also admit
that it is not the poet s volition to be isolated in order to create and to be imaginative. The poet tries to
gather all of his thoughts, sentiments and passions and the result is a piece of art. It is widely known
that artists prefer to live all by themselves and their imagination is augmented because they prefer to

Their sensitive nature, fragility, weakness and their impossibility to speak up were some of the causes
of their fail. The Lady of Shalott is imprisoned in a passive state, and her desire to change her future is
not accomplished. Tennyson suggests that the female struggle of finding her place in the society is not
easy to be achieved. In the final stanza, Lancelot admires her only for her beauty, without knowing
that she dedicated years of her life closed in a tower, weaving a web with colorful images from the
exterior, as if she was a painter. This lack of gratitude was probably the major issue for the artists,

Creon As A Dynamic Character In Sophocles Antigone
In the play Antigone by Sophocles is a tragedy. The play is about four brothers Antigone,Ismene,
Eteocles, and Polyneices the two brothers died fighting for the throne. Creon the new ruler decides
that only Eteocles should be honored and Polyneices was not to be honored which meant they were
going to leave him unburied. Antigone did not agree with this idea her sister didn t share the same
option but that was because she was scared, during that time it wasn t a good thing to go against the
ruler but Antigone didn t really seem to care what this brought to her and she continued with her plan.
In this play we can see how some characters develop a static and a dynamic of character. In this case

She does a lot of things throughout the play in terms of action but her beliefs remain the same though
the whole play and that s what defines her as a static character. For example, there s one part in the
play where Antigone is talking to Ismene about how she does not agree with Creon on what he wanted
to do with there brother and Antigone wants to do something about it but Ismene not to much because
she is afraid to go against the ruler. This shows how Antigone is loyal to her family and stay strong s
on what she believes in even if it means going against the ruler. Another example is when Creon finds
out what Antigone did and Ismene tries to take the blame for her but Antigone does not let her. This
once again shows how Antigone stays loyal to her word and isn t afraid to take responsibility of her
actions and this shows how she is static character because she stays the same on what she beliefs and

Essay on The Poor Law
The Poor Law
The Poor Law was a system established since the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, about two hundred years
before the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834. In this system the able bodied poor should be set to
work, whilst the others had to be provided for by their parish of birth. By 1795 when the whole system
was under strain, an attempted solution was the Speenhamland system also know as the allowance
system that was devised in 1795. This was devised to relieve the acute distress of the poor by giving
money to families calculated according to the number of children and the price of bread.
As the Poor Law was becoming increasingly costly throughout the years, there had to be change in

It was obvious that the same new measures were needed primarily to save money on the rates but also
possibly to tackle the causes of poverty. No solution appeared other than the complete abolishment of
the poor allowance, which few wanted. Under the allowance system, one could work and receive
outdoor relief in the form of cash payments as long as you resided in the parish of your birth. This
system was said to encourage laziness as the poor would have no incentive to work hard or to respect
their employers as they knew that their parish would look after them. The allowance system was
regarded by the ruling class as an unmitigated evil . Payment of allowances was thought to encourage
reckless breeding and immorality and the inflated poor rates were a grievance burden on agriculture,
hindering investment and enterprises, crushing the small tenant or freeholder. Farmers no longer had
to pay their labourers decent wages when they could get relief from the parish.
The administration of the Poor relief and contracts for Poor Law work for supplying food, were
awarded to local tradesmen rather than put to open tender. Overseers were the ones who would
determine who was deserving and who was undeserving . But concerned ratepayers suggested that
these two sections were one way in which vested interests were exploiting the system. This led to
criticisms towards these as it was believed that

My Brother Sam Is Dead Loyalist
The American Revolution was a war of principles fought between Loyalists and Patriots. For example
the Loyalists believed in neutrality and peaceful negotiation against treason, however they also feared
the loss of land, mob rule, and they were against the brutality of war. Moreover the Patriots believed in
freedom, government, the right to bear arms, religion, assemble, and the right to protest. In the novel,

Case Study Of Allianz
International Orientation
The question of internationalization is crucial in an industry where size is critical. Ever since the
second part of the 20th century, insurance companies have been facing market pressures, increasing
costs reducing profit margins and an increasing amount of regulations. To face these changing market
dynamics, the industry has been consolidating, following a big fish eat the small fish logic.
Allianz is the perfect illustration of that model. The company is based in Germany but has extended its

A Christmas Memory Truman Capote
In the story, A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote, Buddy is the main character in the story that
doesn t have a real family that looks after him, except for his older cousin, who is the only person who
has ever offered to foster him and who would give up everything just for him. Buddy and his older
cousin have such a strong bond because they have been one another s family for a long time, they
have become best friends since they have done everything together while their other relatives have left
them to fend for themselves; true friends are the ones who would do anything to make you happy
when you re at your worst, this is exactly what buddy s cousin was for him and what he was for her.
To start off, Buddy doesn t have a family to fall back on except for his cousin, he makes sure that his
cousin is always well taken care of and is always happy. Buddy will do absolutely anything for his
cousin, just as she would do for him. Buddy went to pick out a tree far from where they had gone
before because it made his cousin happy, Queenie wades the stream first, paddles across barking
complaints about the swiftness of the current. (69) Buddy would never go against his cousins wishes
knowing that it would disappoint her, Buddy goes to get the tree with his cousin even though he
knows that is it dangerous. Buddy knows that the tree is something that she wanted and it meant
something big to her, she is the only person Buddy has ever really had to care about, he wants the best
for her no matter what it is that he has to do.
Additionally, Buddy and his cousin maintain a successful life by working together and coming up with
creative ways to earn money, they never grew up having enough money, so they had to make up for it
by earning it themselves. Last summer others in the house contracted to pay us to a penny for every
twenty five flies we killed. Oh, the carnage of August: the flies that flew to heaven! (66) They worked
well together that summer in order to get the money from their relatives, they most likely figured that
if their relatives were going to give them anything, let it might as well be money. Buddy and his
cousin may not have liked each other, but they sure did work well together when they were given

Social Media And Satire
Why exactly has technology had a bad impact on the world when it was originally created to make
everything easier? It s simple: Because of social media and websites creating safe havens for hatred.
Social media is one of the biggest culprits to this, especially when it can be a catalyst to conflict in the
real world. A person I don t know tried to follow me on Instagram. says Saru Daway, a freshman. I
didn t accept his follow request, and he started to get aggressive. He asked me out, and I refused. I told
him to stop texting me, but he continued to insult me. The definition of cyberbullying is the use of

The Washington Consensus was so named because it was a common ideology of the IMF, World Bank
and US Treasury all based in Washington that markets, free from government intervention of any kind,
held the key to development in rich and poor countries alike. (Stiglitz 2003, p. 21).
Conditionality structural adjustment
The impact of the Washington Consensus has been felt mainly through the IMF s increasing use of
loan conditions ( conditionality ) to force policy change in developing countries. The use of loan
conditions can be traced to section 1(v) of the Fund s Articles of Agreement, which encourages the
IMF to make its funds temporarily available under adequate safeguards . But while conditions had, in
the 1950s and 1960s, been used to promote global financial stability (as per the IMF s Articles of
Agreement) in the late 1970s and 1980s, loan conditions began to be used as structural adjustment
tools, and conditionality structural change in client countries became a central focus for the IMF s
work. (www.imf.com)

owned industries. They mean the slashing of government budgets, leading to cutbacks in spending on
health care and education. They mean focusing resources on growing export crops for industrial

The Tyger By William Blake
The coexistence of good and evil has caused many people throughout time to question their God and
the way the world is. William Blake s compilation of poems called the Songs of Innocence and
Experience questions the good and evil in the daily lives of human beings. This collection of poems
includes The Tyger, a partnered poem in the series with The Lamb. Blake offers a new way of
interpreting God through His creations in The Tyger. Blake demonstrates the fierceness of the tyger s
creator throughout the poem. The tyger is viewed as a vicious creature that people view as a threat to
their lives in many cases. A creature so evil to be created by a God depicted as loving baffles many
people, Blake included it would seem. The narrator asks, What immortal hand or eye / Could frame
thy fearful symmetry? (3, 4) This question is asked throughout Blake s poem with the answer alluded
to at the end. Blake wonders how the same God who made such a gentle lamb could make such a
frightening and blood thirsty creature like that of the evil tiger. The narrator uses imagery of the tiger
being forged like one would forge a weapon. What the hammer? what the chain? / In what furnace was
thy brain? (13, 14) These lines give an idea of the tiger being used as a weapon forged by God to show
the power and fierceness that he holds. One may assume he forged such evil to strike fear and
obedience in his followers. The image given to the reader is God as a blacksmith, hammering his
creation in to

Role of Violence in the History of Cinema
Violence plays a major role in the history of cinema. Both Alfred Hitchcock and Quentin Tarantino
have produced a litany of films that have imagery or plots that include violent acts. However, their
different directorial visions and styles make it so that Hitchcock and Tarantino films are nothing alike.
This is because Hitchcock s objective was to make the audience feel afraid, tense, and anxious for the
protagonist, whereas Tarantino s objective is to illustrate the absurdity of violence by elevating the
macabre to the level of humor. Both Hitchcock and Tarantino are brilliant directors who use violence
in their films to achieve a desired effect.
These two directors differ in that Hitchcock avoids showing any blood, guts, and gore, whereas
Tarantino is determined to show blood, guts, and gore. Alfred Hitchcock s movies rarely if ever show
violence in an explicit manner. Violence is only suggested, which has a poignant impact on the viewer.
The viewer knows that violence is lurking around the corner; because the viewer does not see
anything happen, the fear lingers in the air. This is as true for North By Northwest and Psycho as it is
for The Birds. In these films, violence does not happen in an overt way, and yet the audience feels
afraid and anxious. Tarantino, on the other hand, does not intend for the audience to feel fear. In films
like Pulp Fiction, and the Kill Bill series, Tarantino presents violence completely unhindered. Severed
limbs and other overtly gory

ISIS which is also known by other names such as ISIL or the Islamic State, arised around 1999 in Iraq
as a group of extreme Sunni Muslim Jihadists. Extreme jihadism is the practice of extremely agressive
interpretations of the Jihad and of Islamic fundamentalism. Though every muslim somewhat follows
their own Jihad , this group has taken it to another level both believing it is right to kill and behead in
the name of god. After Americas invasion of Iraq was over , and with the neighboring civil war in

The Picture Of Dorian Gray And Atlas Shrugged By Ayn Rand
It is a very well known trope of literature to pin characters against society or social expectations.
Nearly every piece of literature has some character who is displeased with how everybody else does
something, it does not make any difference what the thing is. Following this near necessary pattern,
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand have vital characters
who act differently than society hopes and expects. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dorian Gray and
Lord Henry Wotton are the main characters who represent the struggle of the individual versus society,
each in their own way. Lord Henry s philosophy is very self centered, with his own pleasures being
central to all aspects of his life. This belief system rubs off on Dorian early in the novel and as it
progresses, Dorian seems to care less and less about how society perceives him. He hides his true self
away from society and throws common practice, even laws, out the window. Dorian becomes a being
who lives only to please himself through whatever means. Atlas Shrugged has some self centered
characters of its own, stemming from Ayn Rand s philosophy of objectivism and her belief that self
preservation and self interest are the truest goals in life. Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden represent
this belief Rand holds so dear. On the other hand, Jim Taggart is shown as weak and nearly pathetic
due to his need to please everyone and fear of blame. He conforms to society so as to avoid conflict

Word Count: Table of Contents Introduction 3 External Conflicts 4 Internal Conflicts 4 Military Capabilities 4 Conclusion 4 Works Cited 7 Introduction The Falklands War, or La Guerra de Las Malvinas in Spanish, also referred to as The South Atlantic War. It was a small, but furiously loud conflict between two countries across different ends of the globe, both fighting for a few small islands in which most of the population farm sheep for a living. Before going any deeper into the essay, the selected topic is personally a very difficult area to delve into, as my Argentine background has always made me see this conflict differently. This is from the prolonged exposure to Argentine culture, which the Falkland War greatly affected, including my family and friend s history to the war, and events around it, which is also why I chose it. The history of the Islands has already had a long history before the war, in 1690 a British sailor John Strong discovers the islands, half a decade later, and they claim the Islands as a British Colony. During Britain s, delayed claim, Spain joins into the dividing of the islands, later France also intervenes with the colony, managing to get a slice too. One idea for future research was to conduct a similar study with novice, student pilots who had never received flight instruction to attempt a replication of similar findings in the development of motor learning theory, specifically the development of theory regarding the acquisition phase of learning a new skill (Daou, Lohse, Miller, 2016). What key suggestion for future research did the authors address in their study? The study addressed a shortcoming in the small body of literature indicating that expecting to teach may enhance the learning of declarative knowledge, such as academic information. Previous research had not investigated the effects of expecting to teach on motor learning [such as putting a golf ball], which relies heavily on procedural knowledge. They sought to determine if the participant s [expecting to teach] learning was indirectly enhanced by motivation to spend more time studying and practicing or if the participant s learning was directly [as revealed in a previous study] improved after statistically controlling the quantity of studying and ... By 1795 when the whole system was under strain, an attempted solution was the Speenhamland system also know as the allowance system that was devised in 1795. No solution appeared other than the complete abolishment of the poor allowance, which few wanted. Under the allowance system, one could work and receive outdoor relief in the form of cash payments as long as you resided in the parish of your birth. This system was said to encourage laziness as the poor would have no incentive to work hard or to respect their employers as they knew that their parish would look after them. The allowance system was regarded by the ruling class as an unmitigated evil . Payment of allowances was thought to encourage reckless breeding and immorality and the inflated poor rates were a grievance burden on agriculture, hindering investment and enterprises, crushing the small tenant or freeholder. Farmers no longer had to pay their labourers decent wages when they could get relief from the parish. The administration of the Poor relief and contracts for Poor Law work for supplying food, were awarded to local tradesmen rather than put to open tender. Conditionality structural adjustment The impact of the Washington Consensus has been felt mainly through the IMF s increasing use of loan conditions ( conditionality ) to force policy change in developing countries. The use of loan conditions can be traced to section 1(v) of the Fund s Articles of Agreement, which encourages the IMF to make its funds temporarily available under adequate safeguards . • 33. The Tyger By William Blake The coexistence of good and evil has caused many people throughout time to question their God and the way the world is. William Blake s compilation of poems called the Songs of Innocence and Experience questions the good and evil in the daily lives of human beings. This collection of poems includes The Tyger, a partnered poem in the series with The Lamb. Blake offers a new way of interpreting God through His creations in The Tyger. Blake demonstrates the fierceness of the tyger s creator throughout the poem. The tyger is viewed as a vicious creature that people view as a threat to their lives in many cases. A creature so evil to be created by a God depicted as loving baffles many people, Blake included it would seem. The narrator asks, What immortal hand or eye / Could frame thy fearful symmetry? (3, 4) This question is asked throughout Blake s poem with the answer alluded to at the end. Blake wonders how the same God who made such a gentle lamb could make such a frightening and blood thirsty creature like that of the evil tiger. The narrator uses imagery of the tiger being forged like one would forge a weapon. What the hammer? what the chain? / In what furnace was thy brain? (13, 14) These lines give an idea of the tiger being used as a weapon forged by God to show the power and fierceness that he holds. One may assume he forged such evil to strike fear and obedience in his followers. The image given to the reader is God as a blacksmith, hammering his creation in to ... • 34. Role of Violence in the History of Cinema Violence plays a major role in the history of cinema. Both Alfred Hitchcock and Quentin Tarantino have produced a litany of films that have imagery or plots that include violent acts. However, their different directorial visions and styles make it so that Hitchcock and Tarantino films are nothing alike. This is because Hitchcock s objective was to make the audience feel afraid, tense, and anxious for the protagonist, whereas Tarantino s objective is to illustrate the absurdity of violence by elevating the macabre to the level of humor. Both Hitchcock and Tarantino are brilliant directors who use violence in their films to achieve a desired effect. These two directors differ in that Hitchcock avoids showing any blood, guts, and gore, whereas Tarantino is determined to show blood, guts, and gore. Alfred Hitchcock s movies rarely if ever show violence in an explicit manner. Violence is only suggested, which has a poignant impact on the viewer. The viewer knows that violence is lurking around the corner; because the viewer does not see anything happen, the fear lingers in the air. This is as true for North By Northwest and Psycho as it is for The Birds. In these films, violence does not happen in an overt way, and yet the audience feels afraid and anxious. Tarantino, on the other hand, does not intend for the audience to feel fear. In films like Pulp Fiction, and the Kill Bill series, Tarantino presents violence completely unhindered. • 38. The Picture Of Dorian Gray And Atlas Shrugged By Ayn Rand It is a very well known trope of literature to pin characters against society or social expectations. Nearly every piece of literature has some character who is displeased with how everybody else does something, it does not make any difference what the thing is. Following this near necessary pattern, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand have vital characters who act differently than society hopes and expects. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dorian Gray and Lord Henry Wotton are the main characters who represent the struggle of the individual versus society, each in their own way. Lord Henry s philosophy is very self centered, with his own pleasures being central to all aspects of his life. This belief system rubs off on Dorian early in the novel and as it progresses, Dorian seems to care less and less about how society perceives him. He hides his true self away from society and throws common practice, even laws, out the window. Dorian becomes a being who lives only to please himself through whatever means. Atlas Shrugged has some self centered characters of its own, stemming from Ayn Rand s philosophy of objectivism and her belief that self preservation and self interest are the truest goals in life. Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden represent this belief Rand holds so dear. On the other hand, Jim Taggart is shown as weak and nearly pathetic due to his need to please everyone and fear of blame. He conforms to society so as to avoid conflict ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
