The suffering doesn t end intellectually as he continuously thinks about ( Thoughts Line 3) the further

Banning Prayer In Schools
If you were to sit in the bleachers of a football game today, would God be mentioned? More and more
schools across the nation are banning prayer that is recited over the loudspeakers. The controversy has
arose over the past 20 years. How would you feel if a Friday night tradition of praying was taken away
from your night? Would you feel as if you were missing something? The assistant coach for
Bremerton High School, Joe Kennedy, prayed at the 50 yard line before and after every game with his
team would join him unforced. It was a Friday night tradition for the coach. He was asked to stop by
the Bremerton High School District because it would be violating federal law. Kennedy prayed
anyway like he had done the past seven years after the team s homecoming loss. He walked onto the
field to pray alone, except when he opened his eyes, he found a huge crowd of supporters around him.
The school district put him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The suspension didn t stop him from being a coach.
In 1995, a case originated out of Galveston County, Texas where two families, one catholic and the
other mormon, sued the Santa Fe School District. The families did not agree with the school s policy
to elect a chaplain to lead prayers at graduation and home football games over their PA system.
After a five year court battle, the courts ruled that the public school districts cannot let students lead
crowds in prayer before football games. The reasoning was because the prayer is happening on
government land at school sponsored events, that they are pushing the constitutional requirement that
separates church from state.
Players will still be allowed to pray on their own before, during, or after games as long as the prayer is
done by themselves. Some teams have said that their football players can still pray before games as
long as they are the ones initiating it, and the coaches are not allowed to

The Internet Is Becoming A Threat For Civil Framework
IT Systems and many other networking technologies have controlled a large section of our lives. A
substantial amount of people rely on a form of these technologies in day to day life. Communication,
transport, leisure, workplace, health and many other areas are now very reliant on these newer
networking technologies. This has now become a threat to civil framework and has shown us how
vulnerable the systems in place have become. For example as the use of emails has grown there has
been an evolution in malware and viruses which attach to emails without the receiver even noticing. In
this modern day e commerce which relies on computer systems for transactions to take place and has
become a virtual marketplace and allows businesses to have online stores which makes it accessible
for the customer. Customers can now buy services and goods without having to leave their homes.
While many computer systems collect audit data, most do not have any capability for automated
analysis of that data [Anderson, et al, 1995]. The Internet is becoming increasingly dangerous; not
only for large companies, but smaller networks are also being targeted by malicious activity [Overall
statistics for 2014]. Many of the technologies used within these systems are now being exploited by
criminals trying to access information and perform other criminal activities. The main reason for this
is because most of the infrastructure in place is controlled by IT systems and the security systems in
place

Quebec Sovereigntists Swot Analysis
This essay looks to discuss Quebec sovereigntists and federalists, and how they differ in their
understandings of Canada and Quebec. To accomplish this, the paper looks at three points of
contention; how to understand history, the nature of the Quebec state, and recognition of Quebec. The
three points of contention show where the two view diverge and why, but the paper views these points
as merely pieces of the puzzle. As such only after looking at all three points does the paper reach a
conclusion about the real differences between the two views. The paper concludes that sovereigntists
view Quebec as distinct enfranchised nation within the confines of Canada, and while viewing Canada
as a subjugator and an enemy to Quebec. In comparison, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, only the sovereigntists us Quebec`s history as a means to define Canada. Do to the nature of
their relationship, they see Canada as a force that undermines Quebec. The federalists may agree that
Canada undermined Quebec in the past, but this does not lead them to make any decisions about the
country as whole like the sovereigntists. But this does mean that both agree about the nature of
Quebec`s history. Secondly, both want to move on from this history. But this is where differences
arise. Federalists hold that to move on from the past, Quebec must simply forget about it and instead
value progress. But to the sovereigntists it s not so simple. They view history as creating a path for
Quebec`s future, a path of subjugation by Canada. As such, the sovereigntists search for a critical
juncture to create a new path. They conclude is sovereignty as it naturally follows from the history of
Quebec. This in turn brings us to the final comparison, the justification for sovereignty. Sovereigntists
see sovereignty as following naturally from the history of Quebec, and furthermore being justified by
the nature of the history. Federalists however do not. This is presumably due to the fact that they do
not see history as creating a path, and as such see the future as open and free. Thus the history of
Quebec causes sovereigntists to have a negative view of Canada, create a path for Quebec, and
justifying sovereignty, while federalists see the past as not

Familial Alzheimer s Disease (FAD)
Familial Alzheimer s Disease (FAD) is a form of mental deterioration characterized by the formation
of amyloid plaques around neurons in the brain. While there appears to be multiple ways general
Alzheimer s Disease (AD) can develop, FAD is a rare type of AD that can be acquired hereditarily. Of
all general Alzheimer s cases, around 1 5% are FAD specific, which translates to about 50,000 to
250,000 people (Strobel). Children of people who have acquired certain genetic mutations linked with
FAD have been shown the potential of inheriting these mutations and developing FAD as a result.
Mutations in the presenilin proteins (PSEN1; PSEN2) or in the amyloid precursor protein (APP) have
been shown to be linked with FAD. PSEN1 is most prominently ... Show more content on

However, due to the rapid change of scientific knowledge and medical technology, an argument can be
made against this by saying diseases are more easily avoided if treated at early formative stages in life.
For example, today there is Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeat (CRISPR)
technology which is a genetic engineering tool used to target cells and change DNA sequences by
cutting and replacing nucleotides. At this point in time, it can be difficult to target specific cells so this
technology is still developing and improving. FAD affects brain cells, and so in order to treat this
disease with CRISPR, a virus like technology would need to be created to specifically target brain
cells, and be sure to reach all of them. This being said, it would be much easier to reach every brain
cell in a child as opposed to a fully developed adult brain. In this case, predictive screenings should be
available to children once technology such as CRISPR allows for a way to prevent and treat genetic
diseases.
A combination of predictive screening and genetic engineering technology would allow for
descendants of FAD affected adults to be diagnosed way before symptoms develop and remove the
malignant mutations from the genome completely. Rapid technological advancement has allowed for
FAD to be detected, and hopefully with further advancement,

The Fox Family, John, Margaret And Two Of Their Daughters...
The Fox family, John, Margaret and two of their daughters Kate and Margaret[ta], moved to the small
New York State hamlet of Hydesville on December 11, 1847. The house reportedly had seen it s fair
share of tenants even though it had a reputation for being haunted and bore the nickname of spook
house . The previous tenant, a Mr. Michael Weakman, had moved from the home because of
inexplicable disturbances, a common complaint among many of the previous tenants.
At first, the family dismissed any strange noise in the home as being caused by the window sash. Mr.
John Fox would inspect the sashes by rattling them to compare the noise to what they had heard. It
was from this experiment young Kate had the idea to snap her fingers and bid the unseen noisemaker
to answer, marking the first time their communication with the spirit occurred.
The escalation of the unknown sounds grew to be too distressing for John and Margaret when one
night they were jarred awake by an unseen force. They felt the floorboards moving beneath their feet,
along with unknown knocking sounds. The noises persisted until they finally fell asleep from
exhaustion. Fatigued from these disturbances, they woke the next morning wanting answers.
On the night of March 30th 1848, the noises and movements began once more. John stood outside the
bedroom door on one side while Margaret stood on the other side, flanking the opening. They were
amazed to find the knocks came from between them. They then heard

was different from the others, much, much different. It wasn t my physical appearance, my origin, nor
my speech that made me unique. It was something internal. Walking down the wet, red bricked streets
of Burlington, Vermont and exclaiming Hello to everyone I met was a natural, soft, fluttery feeling of
giddiness. Some would wave, some would reply, and some stopped for a conversation, like the sweet,
understanding people they are. This is my home. The life and consciousness that makes me, me, I
treasure and feel blessed every day for it. Ms. Mooney from down the yellow, strong willed
apartments loves to ask me about recent things. How has your boyfriend been , or come over to my
cafe for your next date, it s on the house , she would say. The sweet, sorrow in her melancholy voice
would remind me of her red haired, spirited girlfriend that passed away, but all she would do is smile
brightly and make others smile around her. She wouldn t be the only one either to comment about my
relationship in the town. Many of the people knew of Landon and I. He is the sweetest, kindest, most

the equality reforms such as abolition and women s suffrage, the majority of reforms carried out in the

How Does Luis Valdez Use Stereotypes In Los Vendidos
Stereotypes are the shackles that keep masses of people unable to be free in the world. One of the
main themes illustrated through the play is the basis of stereotyping in America and how it has and
continues to affect chicanos. Valdez s definition of actos is to inspire others to take social action , the
playwright successfully fulfils his definition through the dialogues and events he describes. The
dehumanizing way that Valdez introduces all of the characters in the play solidifies the pressure they
feel to assimilate and why many resist assimilation. In the play Los Vendidos by Luis Valdez, the
author fulfills his own unique definition of actos in the play by showcasing some of the stereotypes
and prejudices held against Mexican Americans to illustrate the real social standards that are placed
upon them. The play uses stereotypes and biased cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

she states My name is Miss JIM enez. Don t you speak English? What is wrong with you? , This is a
great example of assimilation versus the non assimilated stereotypes. She has abandoned her culture
and fully taken on American culture instead. This is an example of Valdez s definition of actos because
Chicanos should not have to be forced to totally assimilate to a culture that is not their own to please
those around them or for others to accept them. I believe that Miss Jimenez s character and the
hardship that she represents for many Chicano Americans is important because many do not feel that
they are Chicano enough or American enough. Forcing them to abandon part of their culture so they

Athletes From Different Callings And Sports
Athletes from different callings and sports have many differences, but one thing they have in common
is the diet that is required for peak performance. The chance an athlete has of being the best at his/her
specific sport is a thin line between all the other athletes they are competing against. For them to be
successful they will need to make sure their body is performing at its top potential, and to do that the
athlete will need to have a diet that keeps them going. The human body is like a machine or vehicle.
That machine must have the right kind of fuel to work at its peak. It doesn t matter what sport an
athlete is playing, the nutritional diet is just as important as the workout they are doing. This paper

In other words carbohydrate intake will vary from 5 to 10 grams per kilogram of body weight per day
with training of at least one to five hours. If you are an athlete that burns a lot of energy and you are
not replacing that energy through carbs, than you will not perform at your optimal levels.
Carbohydrates are not the only nutrient that is dependent on the activities you do. Protein and fat
intakes are also based on how active the workouts and everyday lifestyle is.
Power
Although it is not much different from the endurance diet, the standard ratio for power athletes is
55/25/20 (Wood, 2016 p. 1). The same can be said about power sports or power lifters. It is not so
much based on a standard amount of carbs/fat/protein ratio than it is on the activity that is being
performed with it. Now your typical power workouts do not burn as much energy as endurance
workouts, so they will not have as much difference in the nutrient ratios that are brought in. What is
meant by this is, the difference in the ratios is that each individual will not be as different as they
would with an endurance workout. Most of your power athletes are working on strength and power,
and their weight or size will not make much of a difference. The only thing that will be different is the
amount of weight that is being lifted during the workout. When dieting it is also important to take into

Coxswain Leadership Qualities
Come on, you can do it! You re not trying hard enough, pull harder! These are the words of a born
leader, or so I thought.
At age ten, I signed up for my first rowing camp ready to step in a boat and row. Since I am the
youngest in my family, I was always looked down upon as the baby . I was looking for an opportunity
to be seen as a leader on the team. Given my height deficit, currently standing at a massive five feet
and one inch, my coach decided I fit the criteria to be a coxswain. Finally I would get the opportunity
to be in control. I raced for the first time when I was twelve years old, while disappointed with my
boat s loss, I remember the pride I felt for cheering on my boat and correcting all the girls mistakes.
After a couple of seasons elapsed, I became frustrated, I was positive my talent as a coxswain wasn t

to learn how to attain these qualities, I went to the boathouse every day where I endured long practices

Social Disorganization Theory Of Crime In Urban Area
Jack Mort did not have a good relationship with his parents and grew up in a poor neighborhood. This
can help explain why he became a criminal. Social disorganization theory concludes that those who
come from impoverished neighborhoods are more likely to commit crime. The social bond theory
states that those with low levels of commitment, attachment, involvement, and beliefs are more likely
to commit crime. Social disorganization theory has mostly been used to explain crime in urban areas.
Roh (2008) wanted to see if this theory can be used to explain crime in suburban areas. This study
hypothesizes that suburban areas will be the same as urban areas when it comes to crime indicators.
The indicators tested in this theory are poverty, heterogeneity, residential mobility and family
disruption. In this study, they used calls to the police by citizens as their measure of crime. They
analyzed the calls for service of four different cities in Texas that were broken up into 55 separate
block groups. Poverty, heterogeneity, and family disruption all had a positive correlation with the
amount of crime in these suburban blocks. Poverty had the strongest correlation. Residential mobility
was the only factor that did not correctly predict crime. Their findings, except for their results on
residential mobility, support the social disorganization theory s assumptions. Barton (2010) tested the
social disorganization theory on college campuses. The study uses the Unified Crime Report

Biome are Constellations of Adaptations
Biomes are appropriate conditions for organizing the natural world because the organisms that live in
them common constellations of adaptations, particularly the climate of each of the areas and the
characteristic vegetation types that develops in these divisions. It should be understood that the
climate is perhaps the most important in determining classes of individuals who may live in an area
and the ways they should be amended to live under different conditions of temperature and
precipitation and seasonal distribution of these factors element. Every place on Earth has its own
climate, influenced by both macroclimate regions as the particular microclimate. The soils are very
important because they are essential to determine the types of plants that will grow into a bioclimatic
zone in partical, in addition, also as substrates for animals serve. In turn, the soils are heavily
influenced by regional climate, as well as the geology of the bedrock. At the same time we have to
keep in mind the diversity of plants like the flora just like the diversity of the fauna as well as the
adaptation of both. The tundra Plant life tends to be of low growth and, during the short summer, the
birds arrive in large numbers to feed on the insects that are born in this period. The climate is cold

Plot Differences In Disney s Version Of Cinderella
There were a few plot differences in Disney s version of Cinderella and the story of Cinderella that we
read in class during the Fairy Tale segment. One of the changes included the number of balls that were
held. In my opinion this was a bigger change because in the movie it is all built up for one ball and in
the original text version there are two balls held. At the first ball, Cinderella realizes that the Prince
has an interest in her. When she comes home that night she wishes to attend the second ball. The
second ball is like the one Disney portrays. It is when Cinderella loses her slipper and the prince finds
it on the stairs. The first ball puts a twist on the story. Readers may be expecting it to be like the

Lennon Turning Point
If you want peace, you won t get it with violence. In discussion of John Lennon using peace to protest.
I believe this point in time was important because, He had a big impact in encouraging people to
protest against subjects they feel strongly about without using violence. The following points illustrate
the importance of this turning point in time: John Lennon and Yoko Ono made a big impact together,
His song Give Peace a Chance and Imagine began the peace movement, and he was a threat to the
government. John Lennon impacted me because riots are starting to increase because people believe
the only way others will listen is by violence when it is not true because as long as people fight
together instead of against each other it works much better. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

John Lennon and Yoko Ono helped each other because they were in it together. Lennon and Ono
would badly want peace for the world because on their honeymoon at Amsterdam hotel in March 1969
was used to host their first sit in for days. They confused the world for days because of the way they
decided to protest which would lead to them being in the newspapers all over the world which they
enjoyed because that would bring more attention to what they were protesting. Yoko changed John
because she was his muse to speak out about peace alongside her even though people didn t like her
because they thought she broke up the Beatles, it should also be said that if she wasn t in the picture

The most advanced models of business were developed in the 20th century by a number of scholars
who were not interested by the hand on applications of the model but rather with the ownership of the
intellectual property. These scholars include Alfred D Chandler who was a professor of business foe
sixty years. He is remembered for his legendary contribution to the growth of the models, which
promoted the expansion of business empires, easy management, application of business models,
strategies and models. He also created an avenue for more complex development of the earlier models.

courses were taught in the same basics where all students acquired the same skills which they
employed to make business decisions alongside multiple fields. The knowledge acquired from these
fields was sufficient and there was no necessity to specialize the discipline to meet specific
requirement. However, with time business field became more and more diversified with and the need
for more specific field of business studies was evident. Following this need the institutions curriculum

Because the new system is not enough for SF Express compete with other companies like Fedex and

software is suitable for the new trend. But the hardware of SF Express still needs to be improved. No
matter how updated version software is, it still needs hardware support it. So updating the hardware is
also required for using the new warehouse management system. The new warehouse management
system is not going to replace all the human works. Therefore, training for the staffs to manage the
warehouse is very important for SF Express. If the staffs can be more familiar the new system, the
most efficiency will be gained. The skills of the staffs need to improve at the beginning. Also, SF
Express needs to set up a new department for the warehouse management. Between the department
conferences need to be held for improving the performance. One of the important principles for this
kind of company is protecting the stocks that the customer has been given to you. SF Express needs to
have some ways to protect the stocks. The warehouse needs more skillful workers to operate it. The
warehouse will become more efficient when different aspects have been improved. The new system
will help to build up the warehouse network for SF Express which is the global trend. SF Express
needs to be patient for updating the warehouse management system since at the beginning there will
be many difficulties need to overcome. But for long term updating the warehouse management system

Change Of The Century By Ornette Coleman Analysis
In the scope of the jazz community, Ornette Coleman is one of the most prominent representatives of
free jazz. Coleman is known for his free jazz compositions as well as his saxophone performances.
Throughout his piece, Change of the Century , one can hear the saxophonist and trumpeter playing
trills and scale patterns. The sounds are abrupt and are played on random beats of the measure. To give
some historical context, when Coleman s album, Change of the Century, was released in 1960, Martin
Luther King Jr. and other activists were staging sit ins in Southern restaurants. With the political
climate of the 1960s in perspective, to the educated listener, the bursts of sound in Change of the
Century now seem indignant. It is not hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the instruments of free jazz are the same, the standard jazz composition patterns are not.
According to German musicologist Ekkehard Jost, the only rule of free jazz is the negation of
traditional norms (Jost 9). While other styles like bebop or swing have set measures or keys, free jazz
does not have the same constraints. There are no fixed rhythms, melodies, and harmonies; if Coleman
started a song in the key of Bb, there was no say in what key he would end with. Coleman s free jazz
songs also have another recurring component: harmolodics. In an interview with Wire magazine,
Coleman defines harmolodics as an element where all ideas all relationships and harmony are equally
in unison ( Interview with Ornette Coleman ). Upon reading this vague definition, the real meaning of
harmolodics escapes both myself and many other jazz scholars. Nevertheless, these improvised
sections between instruments are present in many of Coleman s songs. The term free jazz was first
coined from Coleman s album titled Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation. The album starts off with
all of the woodwinds and brass and continues with improvised solos from the clarinet, trumpet,
saxophone, bass, and drums. Coleman uses the twelve bar blues form and experiments with harmonic
improvisation between the musicians. Reviews for Coleman s album were conflicting; Pete Welding,
record producer, gave the recordings five stars, citing it is by all odds

All Quiet On The Western Front Character Analysis
The First World War, or the ill named War to End all Wars, was one that brought hell to Earth and
mankind. For the first time in history, industry had appeared to make killing efficient. In static
trenches, young men from around the world were killed by artillery kilometres away, poison gas, and
disease. All nations in the conflict experienced the creation of a Lost Generation; men who lost their
lives, limbs, or the ability to live a normal life. Paul Baumer, the young German protagonist of All
Quiet on the Western Front becomes a member of this sad generation through his sad journey to the
ultimate elixir, death. In Erich Remarque s magnum opus All Quiet on the Western Front, Paul
Baumer is faced by various emotionally jarring tests that serve as a catalyst for his inner decline and
eventual elixir. Paul is faced with a fearsome French bombardment and offensive, a hand to hand
killing of a Frenchman, Gerard Duval, and the death of his mentor and father figure, Stanislaus
Katczinsky. For a young man just out of secondary school, in fact, any person in general, these events
lead to a loss of hope and a lost future. From the start of the novel, Paul Baumer is faced with
bombardments and death, yet it is the major French offensive and week long bombardment that serve
as catalysts. Sheltered in their little dugout on the frontline, Baumer and his companions are set
against a barrage of shells that last seven days and seven nights, causing hunger, insanity and death.

are the seat of the bishop and a centre of worship and mission. (The Association of English
Cathedrals) Because it s a central of Catholic churches, all the Catholic churches around a cathedral
receives order and worship services from it. Cathedrals are known for central position in Catholic, but
what we have to focus is beauty of their art of structures and art of symbolism. There are many
Catholic cathedrals around in the world. They have their own designs based on the architecture history
of different countries. For example, in Italy, columns that attached to the walls were treated as ugly
structure. Milan Cathedral was constructed in 1800s in Italy. It is a great example that shows how
Italians had trouble to accepting Gothic style to their building long time ago. They barely finished
construction with help from architect from French. It seems gorgeous due to complicate flower
patterns and statues on outside, but it considered as a chaos because of mixture of Italian and French
architecture. (Sir Banister chapter 14) Cathedrals and churches have statues of the saints beautiful
stain glasses. Each of them represents story of bibles and used to show greatness of God. But the
beauty of Cathedrals is different in each countries. For example, cathedrals in the US have their beauty
of art of symbolism and structure, but European Roman Catholic cathedrals contain more

Summary of Introduction to the New Edition
In Stuart Ewen s All Consuming Images, the preface Introduction to the New Edition opens by giving
the audience varying progressing images, from break dance to Madonna to Windows 95. This
demonstrates a fast change in society: what matters in the history may not be an important issue now.
Ewen then questions how a book written earlier still remains important and deserves republication.
The book is durable because of the fact that it was written when the idea images are everywhere
begins to develop. From political stand point, all the images, or specifically propaganda, that people
see are to manipulate people s emotions. In economic sphere, due to the ubiquitous advertising,

outside and white on the inside. Many of these standards of style have been heavily influenced by the
media, where the progressing visual study of culture has developed throughout the years. Yet, these
images can be a kind of false reality , where people cannot explicitly see the reality beneath those
pictures, thus question the visual pretenses of the world . Ewen analyzes these students stories in order
to understand those challenges they faced and how they struggle to discover themselves in this
marketplace of style. Gustave Le Bon s book The Crowd provides ideas of the public mind and
discusses how the mass mind can take over individuality. This means that in a group of people, the
popular mind will replace one s thought. Like Thomas Hobbes, Le Bon believes that people are
irrational, and everything has to be in order or else there will be social instability.

governing them...Crowds have always undergone the influence of illusions. Whoever can supply them
with illusions is easily their master. When studying the imagination of crowds, we [see] that it is
particularly open to the impressions produced by images. A crowd thinks in images, and the image
itself immediately calls up a series of other images, having no logical connection with

Style Of Filmmaking In The Killing, By Stanley Kubrick
Stanley Kubrick is known for his distinct style of filmmaking in such films like 2001: A Space
Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange. While those films do showcase the sense of auteurship from
Kubrick, his earlier works are more conventional when compared to the 1950s style of filmmaking.
The Killing is a 1956 noir film and Kubrick s third feature film, and was produced by United Artists
with a $200,000 investment and $320,000 budget from James B. Harris. This was also the first
collaboration of producer James B. Harris and Kubrick, and would later on produce two more films.
Unlike famous noir films like Double Indemnity, The Killing did not become instantly successful, but
it became more noteworthy in the retrospect as Kubrick became an established filmmaker in his later
films. Like almost every Kubrick film, The Killing was based on another material, and in this case, a
1955 low budget novel titled Clean Break by crime novelist Lionel White. The movie was adapted by
hardboiled author Jim Thompson, in which Kubrick was also credited, and when compared to the
book, Thompson did expand the roles of the characters and motivations. The movie does retain the
non linear structure of the book, and it also adds voiceover to explain the time change. Between the
two, the film did become more popular than the book, especially when the book s title is often
changed to The Killing in retrospect.
In the film s Production Code Administration file between 1955 and 1956, the

Land Ownership In Colonial England
In England, land ownership distinguished one s status in society. Upon arrival in the New World,
Englishmen sought out to acquire land in an attempt to improve their wealth and social class. For
Native Americans, land was central to their religious and everyday practices. When the colonists
arrived, they viewed the Indians as primitive and unholy. They believed the Native Americans were
incapable of controlling the land. Feeling justified, Englishmen systematically seized great amounts of
fertile land by leveraging written word and religion to undermine the Indians into giving up their
property. Colonists were disdainful of the native americans, who inhabited large territories. The first
interactions between the Natives and the English led men like William Simonds to state, we found
only scattered people, ignorant of knowledge of gold, silver, or any commodities (46). The Indians
were people who the colonists deemed, idle workers (48), people who were incapable of maintaining
the abundant lands. As a result, many colonists including Sir William Herbert warned: Colonies
degenerate assuredly when the colonists imitate and embrace the habits, customs, and practices of the
natives. (46). The colonists believed that they were deserving of the land because they had the
capabilities of exploiting it to its fullest potential. They despised the primitive ways of the Natives,
believing that they had full rights to all Native land. From the first encounters on, the

Fast And Slow By Daniel Kahneman
In selected chapters of Thinking, Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman challenges the traditional
economic utility model by presenting the prospect theory, where pecuniary variables are no longer the
only determinants. George A. Akerlof and Richel E. Kranton support this challenge by providing two
economic analysis models that include identity as an important variable. While Kahneman focuses
primarily on individuals inability to make decisions based on profit determined utility values, Akerlof
and Kranton emphasize that motivation associated with identity is the missing component of the
traditional utility model.
In order to demonstrate flaws of the traditional view, Kahneman supports three principles of prospect
theory with various examples. First, by pointing out errors in Bernoulli s model and the indifferent
model, Kahneman emphasizes the broad range of the reference point, that it is not only the change of
wealth, but also the context and the mindset. Second, Kahneman analyzes loss aversion, one of the
dominant mindsets. Third, Kahneman argue that sensitivity has great impact on decision making by
providing gambling cases of rare and risky events. With the knowledge of these three principles,
Kahneman further implies that people can be trained to against these intuitive system one thinking
patterns.
While acknowledging the limitation of the prospect theory, that it fails to deal with disappointment
and regret, Kahneman neglects the effect of emotions that human

The Importance Of Marine Currentss
Marine currents are masses of salt water, which distribute differently from adjacent masses. They may
be superficial, usually warmer and deeper, which are cooler. In general, they are generated by a
difference in temperature, winds and salinity (Kampel, 1998). In Polar Regions, these currents lose
heat to the atmosphere, generating large masses of polar air, or the cold fronts , becoming extremely
cold and dense. When the ocean freezes, the salt is adhered to the denser and cooler mass of water,
and this new pool migrates to the bottom carrying nutrients and carbon dioxide. The water that is
immediately below rises, and begins a cycle, which generates the main route of transportation and
redistribution of global energy, which takes a thousand years to go around the globe. This process is
crucial for the terrestrial climate system, as well as for nutrient loading (resurgence phenomena) and
CO2 balance. However, while currents are biogeographical barriers, they often facilitate the dispersal
of some organisms. The marine environment can be very inhospitable and cross great distances, like
an entire ocean, it is impossible for animals and plants that are not / are adapted. In this way, the
surface currents are often responsible for genetically connecting populations that have long been
isolated by the transport of seeds, larvae, spores and propagules of different groups of organisms
(BARBER et al., 2000). Sea currents are masses of salt water, which are

Review Of Alice Marwick s Status Update Essay
Book Review 2 Status Update
Status Updates author Alice Marwick is an experienced academic observer of American online culture
who subjectively weighs in on the new era of media and where this social media phenomenon is in
this country let alone the world. This book takes you on a personal journey sheading light on old and
new ideas such as, dot com era, Web 2.0, self branding, Neoliberal capitalism, the up rise of micro
celebrities, and online personas. Although precisely written and full of extensive qualitative research,
this book is mostly over opinionated and anecdotal. A good amount of what Marwick is preaching isn
t necessarily true and full of negative rhetoric towards men such as Gary Vaynerchuk, a self branding
guru who she actually dedicates a part of her book too along with others. Most of the book is full of
her first hand experiences in northern California tech start up hotbed areas where most of her work
was done by good journalism.
The dot com era took off around 1997 and peaked in 2002, this idea like the name suggests was based
off of large investments in internet tech companies whether they were profitable or not. Looking back,
it s easy too say that there was a lack of common sense or a lack of urgency to make money since it

Generals Die In Bed Analysis
The harsh reality of war distinguishes the leaders that exert power and the followers that can t. In the
novel, Generals Die In Bed by Charles Yale Harrison, Harrison outlines the hardships of a soldier s
life. As the story progressed the soldiers learned the bitter truth of war when they realized how small
of a saying they had in the grand scheme of things. The soldiers had no control over their own
decisions as their lives are exploited for the benefits of others.
The soldiers were victims of the manipulative actions by their officers. In the war, the generals
manipulated the soldiers thoughts and emotions and used them as their pawns. An example is when
one of the generals delivered the news to the soldiers about the Germans torpedoing a hospital ship,

picture into the minds of the soldiers. It showed the unfair and inhumane ways of the German army.
The wounded soldiers with amputated limbs sunk to the bottom instantly with the salt stingy in their

The Importance Of Hard Work In The Short Story Hollywood
The only important thing in life is hard work (Gilb 483). In the short, story Hollywood By Dagoberto
Gilb. Luis, and his wife Marta, and their son Ramon are Hispanic, but only Ramon speaks English.
There are conflicts between each other and others act on the beach. They see things differently than
other, particularly Luis saying what hard work is or not. They do not have a lot of money, and they are
lower class. However, Luis has exceptions, for Ramon on the importance of hard work. Luis shows
irony of unforeseen difference, lack of agreement, truth, and expectation of hard work.
The sun s out. , It s still cold. As Luis and his wife Marta Mention (Gilb 482). The sand was moist, the
air cool, the ocean as gentle as a bay (Gilb 482). They have the whole beach to themselves, because it
was winter in Santa Monica beach. Which meant hotels would be discounted; thus, not a lot of people
around. Luis believed it was a good time, for Ramon to knowledge the importance of hard work. In
addition, Luis would relate things to Ramon so he would understand what Luis was talking about,
hard work. Those boats go around and catch fish so people can eat (Gilb 483). Such as, I work at the
plantation, which is how men make a living off the land.
Throughout Hollywood Gilb expresses their emotions in not having money, nor being able to speak
English, besides their son Ramon who learned it from the babysitter. Luis is Bitter, critical, outraged,
scornful, and miserable. Luis controls everything the family ensures, and Marta learned, long ago you
could not argue with Luis. If they worked like us they wouldn t have to run, Luis said of the joggers.
At least they move to keep warm, Marta shot back (Gilb482). Luis and Marta have been frustrated
with each other since they have arrived at the Santa Monica beach. Luis and his family are lower
class, therefore, did not have the funds for a new blanket, Disneyland, or buying hotdogs on the beach.
She lay down on the old blanket she d never convinced him to replace, draped sweater oversell, and
looped her arm over her eyes. The sun was out. She felt pained (Gilb 482). Marta knew Luis was just
being frugal like always. Glib states, Luis to be a hard worker, but I see why

The Theory Of The Equilibrium System
In this lab, Le Chatelier s Principle was observed by shifting different equilibriums to the left or right
in order to make the colors of the rainbow. The equilibrium shift could be identified by the colors of
the solution. In the tray 5 experiment, the reactant was pink and the product was a dark blue color.
After stressing the equilibrium, a pink color indicated that the equilibrium was shifted to the left, and a
blue color indicated that the equilibrium was shifted to the right. The stresses that were studied in this
experiment were changes in the temperature of the system and changes in concentrations of reactants
or products. Le Chatelier s Principle states that when an equilibrium system is subject to a stress, the
system responds by attaining a new equilibrium condition that minimizes the imposed stress. The
main stresses on an equilibrium system are changes in concentration of the reactants or products,
changes in temperature, and changes in pressure or volume for gaseous equilibria. The stress will
either not cause a shift in equilibrium or will cause the system to shift left of right in order to establish
an equilibrium. Adding or removing a pure solid or liquid does not change the concentration;
therefore, it does not affect equilibrium. Only aqueous solutions and gases affect equilibrium.
Increasing the concentration of the reactants will cause a shift to the right. Decreasing the
concentration of the products also has the same effect. Decreasing the

Analyzing Helen Keller s Excerpt From The Story Of My Life
Helen Keller is a name that almost everyone in our country knows. She is famous, not only for her
unfortunate and extremely limiting disabilities, but for the unrelenting effort she put forward to
overcome them. Despite being both blind and deaf, she was eager to learn. In this excerpt from The
Story of My Life, Keller tells the story of the day that the fire for learning was lit inside of her.
Through her writing, Keller uses tone, perspective, and emotional appeal to present her feelings to
readers. Throughout the passage, Keller s tone changes. In the beginning, the tone is heavier and
frustrated, because this is how Keller was feeling at the beginning of the story. She was having trouble
understanding the concept of words, and the way that they related to the world around her. Keller
became extremely frustrated with her own limitations, and even threw down a new doll that her tutor
had given to her, shattering it into a multitude of pieces. Later in the passage, Keller describes her joy
at going outside, and from that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this passage Keller attempts to let readers see the world from her perspective. For example, in the
first paragraph, Keller expresses that she was unable to fell a strong connection to anything, because
she could not see or hear. Later in the passage, she also expresses that she could not form thoughts,
because she did not know any words. In the end, she also expresses how delighted it made her feel to
make the connection between the objects she could feel and the letters that were written on her palm
She was eager to give everything around her a name, to be able to express the way that she was
feeling. All of these things help readers to have some feeling of the way that Keller felt, and the
struggles that she went through. This makes readers appreciate the ending of the passage even more,
because they can relate to Keller s

  • 4. Banning Prayer In Schools If you were to sit in the bleachers of a football game today, would God be mentioned? More and more schools across the nation are banning prayer that is recited over the loudspeakers. The controversy has arose over the past 20 years. How would you feel if a Friday night tradition of praying was taken away from your night? Would you feel as if you were missing something? The assistant coach for Bremerton High School, Joe Kennedy, prayed at the 50 yard line before and after every game with his team would join him unforced. It was a Friday night tradition for the coach. He was asked to stop by the Bremerton High School District because it would be violating federal law. After a five year court battle, the courts ruled that the public school districts cannot let students lead crowds in prayer before football games. The reasoning was because the prayer is happening on government land at school sponsored events, that they are pushing the constitutional requirement that separates church from state. A substantial amount of people rely on a form of these technologies in day to day life. Communication, transport, leisure, workplace, health and many other areas are now very reliant on these newer networking technologies. This has now become a threat to civil framework and has shown us how vulnerable the systems in place have become. For example as the use of emails has grown there has been an evolution in malware and viruses which attach to emails without the receiver even noticing. In this modern day e commerce which relies on computer systems for transactions to take place and has become a virtual marketplace and allows businesses to have online stores which makes it accessible for the customer. Customers can now buy services and goods without having to leave their homes. While many computer systems collect audit data, most do not have any capability for automated analysis of that data [Anderson, et al, 1995]. The Internet is becoming increasingly dangerous; not only for large companies, but smaller networks are also being targeted by malicious activity [Overall statistics for 2014]. Many of the technologies used within these systems are now being exploited by criminals trying to access information and perform other criminal activities. • 6. Quebec Sovereigntists Swot Analysis This essay looks to discuss Quebec sovereigntists and federalists, and how they differ in their understandings of Canada and Quebec. To accomplish this, the paper looks at three points of contention; how to understand history, the nature of the Quebec state, and recognition of Quebec. The three points of contention show where the two view diverge and why, but the paper views these points as merely pieces of the puzzle. As such only after looking at all three points does the paper reach a conclusion about the real differences between the two views. The paper concludes that sovereigntists view Quebec as distinct enfranchised nation within the confines of Canada, and while viewing Canada as a subjugator and an enemy to Quebec. In comparison, ... Do to the nature of their relationship, they see Canada as a force that undermines Quebec. The federalists may agree that Canada undermined Quebec in the past, but this does not lead them to make any decisions about the country as whole like the sovereigntists. But this does mean that both agree about the nature of Quebec`s history. Secondly, both want to move on from this history. But this is where differences arise. Federalists hold that to move on from the past, Quebec must simply forget about it and instead value progress. But to the sovereigntists it s not so simple. They view history as creating a path for Quebec`s future, a path of subjugation by Canada. As such, the sovereigntists search for a critical juncture to create a new path. They conclude is sovereignty as it naturally follows from the history of Quebec. This in turn brings us to the final comparison, the justification for sovereignty. Sovereigntists see sovereignty as following naturally from the history of Quebec, and furthermore being justified by the nature of the history. Federalists however do not. This is presumably due to the fact that they do not see history as creating a path, and as such see the future as open and free. Thus the history of Quebec causes sovereigntists to have a negative view of Canada, create a path for Quebec, and justifying sovereignty, while federalists see the past as not ... While there appears to be multiple ways general Alzheimer s Disease (AD) can develop, FAD is a rare type of AD that can be acquired hereditarily. Of all general Alzheimer s cases, around 1 5% are FAD specific, which translates to about 50,000 to 250,000 people (Strobel). Children of people who have acquired certain genetic mutations linked with FAD have been shown the potential of inheriting these mutations and developing FAD as a result. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, due to the rapid change of scientific knowledge and medical technology, an argument can be made against this by saying diseases are more easily avoided if treated at early formative stages in life. For example, today there is Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeat (CRISPR) technology which is a genetic engineering tool used to target cells and change DNA sequences by cutting and replacing nucleotides. At this point in time, it can be difficult to target specific cells so this technology is still developing and improving. FAD affects brain cells, and so in order to treat this disease with CRISPR, a virus like technology would need to be created to specifically target brain cells, and be sure to reach all of them. This being said, it would be much easier to reach every brain cell in a child as opposed to a fully developed adult brain. In this case, predictive screenings should be available to children once technology such as CRISPR allows for a way to prevent and treat genetic diseases. A combination of predictive screening and genetic engineering technology would allow for descendants of FAD affected adults to be diagnosed way before symptoms develop and remove the malignant mutations from the genome completely. Rapid technological advancement has allowed for FAD to be detected, and hopefully with further advancement, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The house reportedly had seen it s fair share of tenants even though it had a reputation for being haunted and bore the nickname of spook house . The previous tenant, a Mr. Michael Weakman, had moved from the home because of inexplicable disturbances, a common complaint among many of the previous tenants. At first, the family dismissed any strange noise in the home as being caused by the window sash. Mr. John Fox would inspect the sashes by rattling them to compare the noise to what they had heard. It was from this experiment young Kate had the idea to snap her fingers and bid the unseen noisemaker to answer, marking the first time their communication with the spirit occurred. The escalation of the unknown sounds grew to be too distressing for John and Margaret when one night they were jarred awake by an unseen force. They felt the floorboards moving beneath their feet, along with unknown knocking sounds. The noises persisted until they finally fell asleep from exhaustion. Fatigued from these disturbances, they woke the next morning wanting answers. On the night of March 30th 1848, the noises and movements began once more. John stood outside the bedroom door on one side while Margaret stood on the other side, flanking the opening. They were amazed to find the knocks came from between them. They then heard ... This can help explain why he became a criminal. Social disorganization theory concludes that those who come from impoverished neighborhoods are more likely to commit crime. The social bond theory states that those with low levels of commitment, attachment, involvement, and beliefs are more likely to commit crime. Social disorganization theory has mostly been used to explain crime in urban areas. Roh (2008) wanted to see if this theory can be used to explain crime in suburban areas. This study hypothesizes that suburban areas will be the same as urban areas when it comes to crime indicators. The indicators tested in this theory are poverty, heterogeneity, residential mobility and family disruption. In this study, they used calls to the police by citizens as their measure of crime. They analyzed the calls for service of four different cities in Texas that were broken up into 55 separate block groups. Poverty, heterogeneity, and family disruption all had a positive correlation with the amount of crime in these suburban blocks. Poverty had the strongest correlation. Residential mobility was the only factor that did not correctly predict crime. • 26. Change Of The Century By Ornette Coleman Analysis In the scope of the jazz community, Ornette Coleman is one of the most prominent representatives of free jazz. Coleman is known for his free jazz compositions as well as his saxophone performances. Throughout his piece, Change of the Century , one can hear the saxophonist and trumpeter playing trills and scale patterns. The sounds are abrupt and are played on random beats of the measure. To give some historical context, when Coleman s album, Change of the Century, was released in 1960, Martin Luther King Jr. and other activists were staging sit ins in Southern restaurants. With the political climate of the 1960s in perspective, to the educated listener, the bursts of sound in Change of the Century now seem indignant. It is not hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the instruments of free jazz are the same, the standard jazz composition patterns are not. According to German musicologist Ekkehard Jost, the only rule of free jazz is the negation of traditional norms (Jost 9). While other styles like bebop or swing have set measures or keys, free jazz does not have the same constraints. There are no fixed rhythms, melodies, and harmonies; if Coleman started a song in the key of Bb, there was no say in what key he would end with. Coleman s free jazz songs also have another recurring component: harmolodics. In an interview with Wire magazine, Coleman defines harmolodics as an element where all ideas all relationships and harmony are equally in unison ( Interview with Ornette Coleman ). Upon reading this vague definition, the real meaning of harmolodics escapes both myself and many other jazz scholars. Nevertheless, these improvised sections between instruments are present in many of Coleman s songs. The term free jazz was first coined from Coleman s album titled Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation. The album starts off with all of the woodwinds and brass and continues with improvised solos from the clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, bass, and drums. Coleman uses the twelve bar blues form and experiments with harmonic improvisation between the musicians. Reviews for Coleman s album were conflicting; Pete Welding, record producer, gave the recordings five stars, citing it is by all odds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the first time in history, industry had appeared to make killing efficient. In static trenches, young men from around the world were killed by artillery kilometres away, poison gas, and disease. All nations in the conflict experienced the creation of a Lost Generation; men who lost their lives, limbs, or the ability to live a normal life. Paul Baumer, the young German protagonist of All Quiet on the Western Front becomes a member of this sad generation through his sad journey to the ultimate elixir, death. In Erich Remarque s magnum opus All Quiet on the Western Front, Paul Baumer is faced by various emotionally jarring tests that serve as a catalyst for his inner decline and eventual elixir. Paul is faced with a fearsome French bombardment and offensive, a hand to hand killing of a Frenchman, Gerard Duval, and the death of his mentor and father figure, Stanislaus Katczinsky. For a young man just out of secondary school, in fact, any person in general, these events lead to a loss of hope and a lost future. From the start of the novel, Paul Baumer is faced with bombardments and death, yet it is the major French offensive and week long bombardment that serve as catalysts. Sheltered in their little dugout on the frontline, Baumer and his companions are set against a barrage of shells that last seven days and seven nights, causing hunger, insanity and death. As the ... • 30. Style Of Filmmaking In The Killing, By Stanley Kubrick Stanley Kubrick is known for his distinct style of filmmaking in such films like 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange. While those films do showcase the sense of auteurship from Kubrick, his earlier works are more conventional when compared to the 1950s style of filmmaking. The Killing is a 1956 noir film and Kubrick s third feature film, and was produced by United Artists with a $200,000 investment and $320,000 budget from James B. Harris. This was also the first collaboration of producer James B. Harris and Kubrick, and would later on produce two more films. Unlike famous noir films like Double Indemnity, The Killing did not become instantly successful, but it became more noteworthy in the retrospect as Kubrick became an established filmmaker in his later films. Like almost every Kubrick film, The Killing was based on another material, and in this case, a 1955 low budget novel titled Clean Break by crime novelist Lionel White. The movie was adapted by hardboiled author Jim Thompson, in which Kubrick was also credited, and when compared to the book, Thompson did expand the roles of the characters and motivations. The movie does retain the non linear structure of the book, and it also adds voiceover to explain the time change. Between the two, the film did become more popular than the book, especially when the book s title is often changed to The Killing in retrospect. • 31. Land Ownership In Colonial England In England, land ownership distinguished one s status in society. Upon arrival in the New World, Englishmen sought out to acquire land in an attempt to improve their wealth and social class. For Native Americans, land was central to their religious and everyday practices. When the colonists arrived, they viewed the Indians as primitive and unholy. They believed the Native Americans were incapable of controlling the land. Feeling justified, Englishmen systematically seized great amounts of fertile land by leveraging written word and religion to undermine the Indians into giving up their property. Colonists were disdainful of the native americans, who inhabited large territories. The first interactions between the Natives and the English led men like William Simonds to state, we found only scattered people, ignorant of knowledge of gold, silver, or any commodities (46). The Indians were people who the colonists deemed, idle workers (48), people who were incapable of maintaining the abundant lands. As a result, many colonists including Sir William Herbert warned: Colonies degenerate assuredly when the colonists imitate and embrace the habits, customs, and practices of the natives. (46). The colonists believed that they were deserving of the land because they had the capabilities of exploiting it to its fullest potential. They despised the primitive ways of the Natives, believing that they had full rights to all Native land. From the first encounters on, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Fast And Slow By Daniel Kahneman In selected chapters of Thinking, Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman challenges the traditional economic utility model by presenting the prospect theory, where pecuniary variables are no longer the only determinants. George A. Akerlof and Richel E. Kranton support this challenge by providing two economic analysis models that include identity as an important variable. While Kahneman focuses primarily on individuals inability to make decisions based on profit determined utility values, Akerlof and Kranton emphasize that motivation associated with identity is the missing component of the traditional utility model. In order to demonstrate flaws of the traditional view, Kahneman supports three principles of prospect theory with various examples. First, by pointing out errors in Bernoulli s model and the indifferent model, Kahneman emphasizes the broad range of the reference point, that it is not only the change of wealth, but also the context and the mindset. Second, Kahneman analyzes loss aversion, one of the dominant mindsets. Third, Kahneman argue that sensitivity has great impact on decision making by providing gambling cases of rare and risky events. With the knowledge of these three principles, Kahneman further implies that people can be trained to against these intuitive system one thinking patterns. While acknowledging the limitation of the prospect theory, that it fails to deal with disappointment and regret, Kahneman neglects the effect of emotions that human ... • 34. The Importance Of Marine Currentss Marine currents are masses of salt water, which distribute differently from adjacent masses. They may be superficial, usually warmer and deeper, which are cooler. In general, they are generated by a difference in temperature, winds and salinity (Kampel, 1998). In Polar Regions, these currents lose heat to the atmosphere, generating large masses of polar air, or the cold fronts , becoming extremely cold and dense. When the ocean freezes, the salt is adhered to the denser and cooler mass of water, and this new pool migrates to the bottom carrying nutrients and carbon dioxide. The water that is immediately below rises, and begins a cycle, which generates the main route of transportation and redistribution of global energy, which takes a thousand years to go around the globe. This process is crucial for the terrestrial climate system, as well as for nutrient loading (resurgence phenomena) and CO2 balance. However, while currents are biogeographical barriers, they often facilitate the dispersal of some organisms. The marine environment can be very inhospitable and cross great distances, like an entire ocean, it is impossible for animals and plants that are not / are adapted. In this way, the surface currents are often responsible for genetically connecting populations that have long been isolated by the transport of seeds, larvae, spores and propagules of different groups of organisms (BARBER et al., 2000). • 44. The Theory Of The Equilibrium System In this lab, Le Chatelier s Principle was observed by shifting different equilibriums to the left or right in order to make the colors of the rainbow. The equilibrium shift could be identified by the colors of the solution. In the tray 5 experiment, the reactant was pink and the product was a dark blue color. After stressing the equilibrium, a pink color indicated that the equilibrium was shifted to the left, and a blue color indicated that the equilibrium was shifted to the right. The stresses that were studied in this experiment were changes in the temperature of the system and changes in concentrations of reactants or products. Le Chatelier s Principle states that when an equilibrium system is subject to a stress, the system responds by attaining a new equilibrium condition that minimizes the imposed stress. The main stresses on an equilibrium system are changes in concentration of the reactants or products, changes in temperature, and changes in pressure or volume for gaseous equilibria. The stress will either not cause a shift in equilibrium or will cause the system to shift left of right in order to establish an equilibrium. Adding or removing a pure solid or liquid does not change the concentration; therefore, it does not affect equilibrium. Only aqueous solutions and gases affect equilibrium. Increasing the concentration of the reactants will cause a shift to the right. Decreasing the concentration of the products also has the same effect. Decreasing the ...
