Elton John s Song Ticking
Ticking is one of Elton John s most powerful and under rated songs. Bernie Taupin, Elton s song
writer, wrote the words why Elton wrote the music, and together they created a song that presents a
strong statement. It is a story about a fictional young man who is seemingly normal, but in the end, he
snaps and unleashes his carnage. For a song released in 1974, years before mass shootings like
Columbine, Aroura, and Orlando, it is eerie that it can relate to so many mass shooting that have
happened in the past few years. Elton and Bernie are giving a warning in this song that, as a society,
we should focus on trying to reduce gun violence and focus more on mental health.
Looking at the title, Ticking may not immediately mean anything, but once you dig into the lyrics of
the song it becomes clear. It refers to a young man who is seemingly normal and very quiet, however
in the end he snaps. Ticking is being used as a metaphor to represent the young man who appears
normal but is slowly getting closer to the breaking point.
The first stanza begins in a calm tone like the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mother s comments are driving him closer to the breaking point (Lines 9 11). His mother s voice in his
head then says, Grow up straight and true blue/run along to bed, this introduces the possibility that the
young man may be homosexual and that his mother, and possibly his father, showed her disapproval

religious ideology (Lines 12 13). Perhaps this is the reason he asks for forgiveness every Sunday is

Frankenstein Compare And Contrast Essay
Mary W. Shelley s brilliant gothic story, Frankenstein, is one that emits the prevalent theme of light
versus dark, in which possesses obvious characteristics of a novel written during the romantic era. The
novel tells the account of the overambitious Victor Frankenstein, who created a monster in hopes that
he d be known for crafting something human from the body parts of corpses with physical and mental
advantages in society, basically playing the part of God on Earth, but through the auspices of science.
Instead of creating a normal human, his creation ended up being a disfigured creature who he then
neglects. Upon his abandonment, the monster seeks revenge on Victor after being cast away by society
due to harsh physiognomy in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The monster believed that Victor would accept him, but after he realized that not only did Victor not
want to assume his position in the monster s life, but society also rejected him, it became a transitory
thought, and instead became replaced with his bloodthirst towards Victor and his loved ones, which he
knew would hurt way worse than just killing him; making him lonely like himself. Both Victor and the
monster partook in horrid acts, in which held horrendous actions; the main one being Victor creating
the monster in the first place which in result caused the both of them heartbreak, loneliness, and pain.
If Victor wouldn t have created the monster, then his life would not be filled with so much grief and

are the antagonists because of the display of the emotions they both portray as lamenting
humans/monsters, and the power they give to nature in order to destroy one another. Victor used

Solar System Advantages
There are many different items that make up the solar system, and they are all classified very
differently. Two of the most important items in our solar system are the planets and the moons. They
differ in geologic activity, composition, interior structure, magnetic fields, and atmospheres. There are
multiple probe missions, both past and present, that support these concepts. There are physical factors
and characteristics that are important in determining the property of the items. In this paper, I will
discuss all of these topics as well as what benefits I think there are so studying other worlds as well as
the benefits I see to studying the solar system and why. The moon has no real atmosphere so there can
be no weatherly erosion, which is an issue some planets have. The atmosphere is basically comprised
of gases that surround the moon. The moon has an extremely low gravity and cools more rapidly than
some planets. It does not have any plate tectonics. The surface of the moon has been created from
years of impact by craters and volcanoes. The moon is often comprised of the crust, the mantle, and
the core. The moon is best observed through telescope observations, however; the moon has always
been subject to lunar landings, lunar samples, and orbiting space crafts. The moon has a very weak
magnetic field in comparison to planets such as the Earth. The moon does not have a dipolar magnetic
field. The crust is where most magnetization occurs. The first moon

Nuclear Energy And Its Effects
1. Background
Nuclear energy can be produced by fission, by splitting a nucleus into smaller products, (precisely
equal parts). These products are equal to half of the original mass. In the process of nuclear fission,
energy and neutrons will be emitted. Along with the emission of neutrons, also during the process of
fission, a large amount of a product s energy is released.
Every day we are surrounded by so much radiation however, only some radiation can be harmful to
us. Radiation such as microwaves, radio waves, and infrared are classes as non ionizing and are not a
threat to humans. Radiation classed as Ionizing radiation is most definitely harmful to us because it
has the capability of removing electrons from other atoms and then ... Show more content on

They also have a less powerful ionizing rate compared to alpha particles.
Gamma rays are energy, also known as electromagnetic radiation. They have no charge or mass. They
move through the air extremely quickly (at the speed of light) and to ionize them, they need to directly
hit the nucleus of an atom. This suggests that gamma rays have a very low ionizing rate and can travel
much t=further through the air compared to alpha and beta particles.
Nuclear fuelled power plants are very similar to fossil fuelled power pants, in which they both turn
water into steam in order to control the turbine generators that produce energy; the only difference is
the source of heat. At nuclear power plants, a nuclear reactor produces and controls the amount of
energy that is released when atoms of Uranium split, which is called fission. The heat that is used to
make this steam is created by this form of fission. Uranium fuelled nuclear power plants are a clean
and efficient way of boiling water to produce the steam that is used to operate the turbine generators
within the power plant.
Figure 1 shows the equation for the nuclear fission of uranium 235.
2. Discussion
Even though we use Nuclear energy to give places electricity, Nuclear energy is used in many more
things than just in the production of electricity. Such as; Hospitals, schools, households or business ,
Nuclear Radiation can be used to treat heavy medical

The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment In Western Europe
The Age of Enlightenment saw many great changes in Western Europe. It was an age of reason and
philosophes. During this age, changes the likes of which had not been seen since ancient times took
place. Such change affected evert pore of Western European society. Many might argue that the
Enlightenment really did not bring any real change, however, there exists and overwhelming amount
of facts which prove, without question, that the spirit of the Enlightenment was one of change
specifically change which went against the previous teachings of the Catholic Church. Such change is
apparent in the ideas, questions, and philosophies of the time, in the study of science, and throughout
the monarchial system. Previously, the Catholic Church had professed to the entire medieval world
that faith in God was absolute. Indeed, the medieval world was truly an age of faith. As such, ideas
that went against the teachings of God were ignored and their preachers subsequently murdered. After
the Crusades brought back old Aristotelian learning from the middle east, all this changed. Advances
in Geography were made with the introduction of Ptolemaic Geography. More importantly than the
rediscovery of ancient geography was the beginning of skepticism in Western Europe. No longer
would the Church s word be taken on faith. The idea that the physical world could be understood
through the use of empiricism analytical thought was also introduced. René Descartes even began to
doubt his own existence

Them ! Movie Analysis
As the final shots of the second World War were dealt, the first shots of the Cold War were fired. After
World War II, America was prosperous. They had not experienced a significant postwar recession, nor
were the masses unemployed. The United States had experienced extraordinary economic growth in
the years following the war.Despite the prosperity and growth experienced that succeeded the war, the
fear of Communism plagued the minds of Americans. Americans became increasingly worried about
the spread of Communism, and the threat of Communism destroying the lives and values of the
American people. They saw it as a threat to Democracy itself, and the fear, the paranoia experienced
by the Americans was expressed in pop culture.

The mere thought of a nuclear event or a nuclear attack on the united States was enough to scare the
entire country, but mutants and strange creatures as a result of it was over the edge. It was not much a
fear of the monsters themselves and their grotesque and gigantic appearances, but what they
represented in the films. Take the film Them! for example. Ants exposed to radiations as a result of
nuclear testing, has turned them into gigantic, mutated ants that are terrorizing the people of New
Mexico. The giant mutant ants are used in the film to not only show the dangers of nuclear war, but to
portray the soviets in a new way. In the film, Dr.Medford refers to ants in general as savage, ruthless,
and courageous fighters . By labeling the ants as savage and almost barbaric creatures, the same could
be said about the Soviets at the time. The Soviets were seen as hard, and crude like the ants in the
film, who attacked and killed innocent people.By looking at the poster for the film, we can see the
correlation between ants and Communists. The poster features a frightened women in the jaws of a
mutant ant screaming kill one and two more take its place! . Both the giant ants and the soviets were
seen to operate as a hydra. It didn t matter if you killed one breast or one communist, because when
one dies two more will replace it. The Soviets, like the ants, had strength in numbers, a greater
population that the Americans. At the end of the film Them! they find the ant s den and throw gas in
the hole and attempt to destroy and kill all the ants living in the den. When they jump down into the
cavern, they have discovered that two queen ants have escaped, and traveled to California to create a
new colony. Again, this could be characterized similarly to the theme of the underground mentioned
above, but it goes somewhat deeper than that.

The Album Of La Revue Blanche
Exhibition Overview:
Among the many fabulous pieces of art housed at the DMA, there lies a hidden gem that has yet to be
on display. The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the late 19th
century Parisian anarchist journal, provides not only an insight into popular fin de siĂšcle French print
culture, but also a beautiful case study in the techniques developed by leading artists in the realm of
fine art lithography. It is the goal of this exhibit to explore the place of the graphic arts in early modern
art through the example of this journal, and to examine more closely the stylistic hallmarks of the
lithograph in a more detailed way.
Lithography: Method
Lithography is planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and water.
In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease treated image on the flat printing surface. Non
image areas hold moisture and repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then printed by means
of a special press as in most fine art printmaking . The earliest though no longer the only method of
creating lithographs involved the use of a block of porous limestone. An image is drawn with tusche a
carbon pigment in liquid form, and litho crayon a type of grease pencil before the printing surface is
fixed, moistened, and inked in preparation for printing. The printing itself is done on a press that
exerts a sliding pressure, and because it undergoes virtually no wear in

The Bureaucracy Of The Business World Of Greece
The bureaucracy found in the business world of Greece makes it even more difficult for innovation to
exist, according to the article: bureaucracy, laws, and rules exert particular influence in Greece
because they help make life more structured and less uncertain. In Greece, acquiring construction
permits, registering property, and enforcing contracts in courts require vast amounts of paperwork and
time. Thus, the rules which are in place to prevent uncertainty in Greek businesses also inhibits
innovation which is already unlikely to occur because of the avoidance of uncertainty already
prevalent in Greek culture..

It could be argued, however, that American business writers are judging Greece s economy based on
their own ideas of how business is done. They may say that it is merely a coincidence that Greece is
struggling and happens to avoid uncertainty. It would be impossible to say that their struggles are
because of their tendencies to avoid uncertainty, but the weight of the previous information given in
this paper outlines the role uncertainty does play in the American corporate world.
This is not the only argument to be made, however. The article from the Harvard Business Review
also charted out different country s innovation based on the European Commission Index alongside
their rating of uncertainty avoidance as determined by Hofstede s scale as well as the level of
Bureaucracy as according to the World Bank ranking. The chart demonstrates that, as a general rule,
countries which have a higher uncertainty avoidance also have less innovation and more bureaucracy.

The And Of The Jewish Culture
Another way this affected the original listener was by finally opening the door to having a personal,
powerful, and intimate relationship with Yeshua. In the Jewish culture, everyone read and studied the
Torah. It was not like how it is today in the West. When speaking of knowledge, God isn t referring to
intellect most of the time. The word heart really means the mind in much of scripture. When Jesus said
He wants His people to know Him, He means to love Him with everything, which is shown by
obeying His commandments. Love is a decision, not just an emotion. The whole reason Jesus came
back was to reestablish the connection that was lost with the fall of man. Jesus abolished the sin
barrier that had been between God and man for so long. A Father wants a true and pure relationship
with his children; God is the exact same way in the sense of wanting intimacy. He desired this close
relationship so badly that He sent His only Son, His FIRSTBORN to bore the cross and face rejection
yet again. Even when looking at the significance of the firstborn to the Jewish culture will provide an
even richer revelation to how incredible and infinite Adonai s agape love is for His Children.
In Luke 10: 8 9, it shows that Jesus sent out His disciples to minister and told them every town and
village they entered that they were to dine and eat with people in whatever homes would accept them;
when they were healing the sick, they were to say The Kingdom of God has come near you. In

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Packet Sniffers
A packet sniffer can only capture packet information within a given subnet. So, it s not possible for a
malicious attacker to place a packet sniffer on their home ISP network and capture network traffic
from inside your corporate network. In order to do so, the packet sniffer needs to be running on a
computer that is inside the corporate network as well. However, if one machine on the internal
network becomes compromised through a Trojan or other security breach, the intruder could run a
packet sniffer from that machine and use the captured username and password information in order to
compromise other machines on the network. Packet sniffers are very hard to detect because they are
passive, which means the sit on background reading the network stream and never send out data. So
unless we know it s there we can t find it. One of the major drawbacks of packet sniffers is if they can

Nietzsche Dionysis Essay
What method does Nietzsche use to become the Dionysian Overman? What perspective on life does
the Overman adopt? How does it enable amor fati and express optimum Yes saying to our present
natural life in the world? How does this overcome slave morality or religion ? Nietzsche uses
acceptance of fate, its obstacles, adversity and also its divinity to become the Dionysian Overman. He
believes by affirming life in both its cruelty and beauty that we can achieve joy in the present without
the need for beliefs in an afterlife or future existences. Nietzsche states the Overman holds a love for

mindset free from societal pressure and preconceived ideals one may become overman and go forth
with a joyful perspective on life. The Overman adopts the perspective that beauty, cruelty, happiness
and sadness despite their definitional differences are to be appreciated all the same. He explains that it
is the obstacles in life that spurn the greatest happiness, it is explained in this Chinese Proverb: The
flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all. Nietzsche believes that as there
is no adversity in Heaven there can be no such beautiful flowers blooming there (PHIL1087 #4) and
hence no chance for courage, generosity and personal growth. There is hence no chance to adopt a
Dionysian perspective and be at one with all of what is natural, to thence be able to find true
Dionysian virtue. This virtue lies in the acceptance of all that is pleasurable and painful. It then brings
happiness as Nietzsche argues that vice sprouts from disaffection...resentment, spite, from the...lack of
inner power and its joy . As the Overman can hold no sense of resentment, or grudge and through

Comparing Plato, Descartes, And The Matrix
Plato, Descartes, and the Matrix
Latalvin Bullock
Liberty University
Is what I am seeing real or is it a figment of my imagination? Many people have found themselves
asking this question at some point in their life. This has been a subject that has been addressed by
many philosophers. In this paper the approach to this topic is centered on Plato s The Allegory of the
Cave and Descartes s Meditation I of The Things Which We May Doubt as compared to the movie
The Matrix. One of the most obvious similarities of the three passages is that they all call in to
question what reality is. In The Matrix reality is conceived through a computer. The computer
simulates the peoples perception of reality. They are not truly aware of their own reality because ...

Matrix it disturbs him to see that people are living out a virtual reality that is not true reality. This calls
into question his own reality and was the life he was living real or imagined. Plato s Allegory of the
Cave also shows a distorted sense of reality. The prisoners believe that what they see through the
shadows is reality. Being tied by the fetters there is no way for them to see any other reality around
them. Based solely on what they see through the shadows are real to them. The shadows are an
artificial source of reality for the prisoners as the computer is an artificial source for those living in the
Matrix even though both the prisoners and those hooked to the computer feel that it is entirely real. In

Comparing Ariel And The Bell Jar
Although the novel, The Bell Jar reflects Sylvia Plath s psychological distress, the
poem book Ariel, expresses more of the author s dark, depressive thoughts and
feelings. In The Bell Jar, the main character s experiences reflect the mental
breakdown Sylvia had at the time. In poem book Ariel, Sylvia s poems have darker
and depressing themes. Both books express Sylvia s declining mental state in the
ominous way they are written, the tragic ends, and sad themes.
Sylvia Plath is a great modernist author who wrote her about feelings through books

An Arundel Tomb by Philip Larkin literary criticism
An Arundel Tomb is about a Tomb. The people this statue represents are Richard and Eleanor
FitzAlan. The poem is about love, and how it hasn t always meant the same thing and what it meant to
the couple, the people then, and the people now. It was also about death. It was written in 1956 but not
published until 1964 in Philip Larkin s The Whitsun weddings . The author uses slant rhymes Puns
and to prove his point. The poem is about what a man sees when he looks at a sculpture. What it
meant to him and what it meant to the couple. The speaker thinks the statues show love, then He starts

Larkin said this of his own work Love isn t stronger than death just because statues hold hands for 600
years. We see with his other drafts of this poem he wanted us to think it is not true with the qualifying
he put there. He wrote Love isn t stronger than death just because statues hold hands for 600 years. On
his draft. IN a way much of what the speaker says is actually true. The holding of hnds is new before
1840 they were not even together they were separate.
The poem is also about death. It was the last poem in the book the whitsun weddings Which has
meaning in itself it was the poem the book ended in or died. Maybe it was put at the end because it
was not his favorite one might say? Well he had this poem spoken at his funeral. So the placement and
his own life shows that this poem was about death. These people s culture Any way we decide to
perceive this art work is what will be remembered. This also shows that the book the whitsun
weddings should be read in the order the author puts the poem in. Why did the poet put the poem in
that specificate place in the book? It is about how love will servive death or what we perceive as love.
The poem is about a man questioning love or questioning what will survive

Slavery During The Twentieth Century
Jeremy Black has recently stated slavery played a major role in the twentieth century. The twentieth
century, he argues, witnessed a highpoint in slavery as it rose to a new peak. He defines slavery as
being public which differs from the conventional account of enslavement, economic exploitation and
racism. For Black, the conventional account of slavery has been easier to define and confront. This
dissertation through the work of three authors: Buchi Emecheta, Ayi Kwei Armah and Tayeb Salih
aims to act as a corrective to approaches similar to Black s theory, that slavery has been easily defined,
by demonstrating the tension between remembering and forgetting history. The twentieth century
narratives trace the history of the Atlantic slave trade through contemporary Africa, reflecting the role
of slavery in present day. The works unearth remnants of the past in order to locate African memories
in literature and bring them forth from the margins of history. Each author originates from different
geographical locations in Africa, which allows various forms of slavery to emerge in the narratives,
representing slavery as continuing to haunt the African psyche.
In tracing transatlantic slave trade literature, Achille Mbembe states, there is, properly speaking no
African memory presenting the void of African voices in the history of the slave trade. The memories
depicted in literature are as Paul Connerton claims remembered by those in power demonstrating the

BONOBOS
Species Origination and Geographical Distribution The bonobo is the most recently discovered great
ape in modern times. It was revealed in 1929 by German anatomist Ernest Schwarz that a skull once
thought belonging to a juvenile chimpanzee was in fact a new subspecies of chimpanzee known now
as the Pan paniscus, or bonobo. (Waal 6) During the Pleistocene epoch approximately 1.5 million
years ago, the Congo River was formed in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. (San
Diego Zoo 2) The river geographically segregated groups and individual chimpanzees south of the
river resulting in these chimps being reproductively isolated. Allopatric speciation took place as a

Bonobo s are classified within the Genus Pan, Species paniscus. Pan paniscus is commonly referred to
as the pygmy/lesser/dwarf chimpanzee, and gracile ape. The name bonobo is said to be meaningless,
taken from a misspelling on a shipping crate headed to the town of Bolobo in the Democratic Republic
of Congo. (Primate Info Net) On an interesting note, some taxonomists suggest putting both
chimpanzees and bonobo s in the same Genus as humans, Homo, due to genetic similarities in the
species because both are humans closest genetic relatives. (San Diego Zoo 2) (Wildman Et. Al. 2003)
Physical Characteristics Bonobo s display a varied degree of sexual dimorphism, which is a
characteristic specific to either male or female sex. When comparing the two sexes, males are more
muscular and hold an average weight of 95 pounds compared to an average of 82 pounds and a
slighter built female, a 15 percent weight difference between them. Sexual dimorphism is also
apparent in that males possess a unique dental trait, long canines, a feature that females lack. Both
sexes are similar in that neither has a height advantage, averaging 2.3 to 3 feet in height. (Waal 24)
Bonobo s possess long, fine black hair covering most of the body and black colored hands and feet.
Their black faces feature wide, thick walled nostrils and long black facial hair that often covers their
small ears. Their head hair

The Pros And Cons Of Hacking The Autonomous Vehicles
Back in 2004 when everyone watched the dystopian science film, I, Robot, no one imagined that the
autonomous cars that were shown would one day belong to many Americans. In the 1860 s, Robert
Whitehead invented a self propelled torpedo which gave rise to many new ideas such as autopilots,
auto tillers, and autonomous drones (Weber 3). With the new technology set in place, car developers
are engineering self driving cars known as autonomous cars (Weber 3). Autonomous cars are able to
sense vehicles, humans, and surrounding territory without any human cognition ( Weber 4) These cars
are available in the market today, but they are still a very futuristic design that is being improved to

This in turn improves the traffic conditions on the road in areas that have high trafficking. When
someone is not stuck in traffic and is able to accelerate to the speed of other cars, they can maximize
on gasoline usage( Standley 12). This way the consumer in Northern Virginia will have to buy less
gasoline, and the gasoline will run a longer way for the autonomous cars. This will also help Northern
Virginia s movement to becoming a greener place. Conclusion Lastly, drivers will have to have some
kind of knowledge about driving a car in case of an emergency and they need to be in charge and take
over, but a person who is disabled will be able to drive an autonomous car. Teenagers and young
adults with cognitive recognition and form will be able to use these cars even if they are not the
normal age of driving a regular car. Some type of testing procedure will need to be put in place. Self
driving cars are progressing day by day which only a decade ago was considered to be in dystopian
literature or in science fiction movies. In many contexts, there can be a lot of information that can be

Homecoming In The Odysseus
When we take the time to look at The Odyssey there is a lot to examine. We can look at the different
themes or how the character interacts with one another, but one thing in particular I want to talk about
is homecoming . What are the different types of journeys that we see throughout The Odyssey that
tells about homecoming ? There are different characters throughout the poem that strive for this goal.
With this they have to interact with others throughout the poem to effectively accomplish their goal
and their journey. First, we look at what different types of journeys there are through the play. One
example, a very popular example, is Odysseus s journey home from war. After the war Odysseus is
stranded on an island The only way for him to get off is to build a boat and he gets this idea from
Hermes. Hermes is the God of communication. Odysseus wants to return to Ithaca. We could say that
every obstacle and every stop in Odysseus s journey is a new homecoming. Each of his encounters
with a God or Goddess is a new homecoming. But until Odysseus is actually home in Ithaca he will
not feel as though he is home. Odysseus goes through and endures a lot to get to his final destination,
but when going through this journey he realizes that the journey was the destination and that he was
really home all along. Through hid journey he was shown love and compassion. We can look at this
love as agape which is Greek for mainly love . Throughout his homecoming Odysseus find that

Essay about business model 1
BUSINESS MODEL GENERATION EXERCISE
RQ1 What is a Business Model? At least 2 paragraphs.
The first step in implementing an effective business model is to adequately understand the definition.
Osterwalder and Pigneur (2010) define a business model as the rationale of how an organization
creates, delivers, and captures value. (14) In simple terms, a business model is an outline or a blueprint
an organization uses to constract effective processes, structure, and systems.
While business models can be complex and unique, a basic understanding and definition of a business
model is important for success. To simplify the complexities of defining a business model, one can

Likewise, a poor business model is often blamed for a firm s failure. Models, like strategy, are
important ways that a company can plan, adjust, and succeed.
As described previously, a business model can be seen as a blueprint and such plans give direction,
meaning, and purpose. Business models can also be perceived as scale models used for larger
implementation. (Doganova Eyquem Renault, 2009) Whether implemented by an entrepreneur or by
an establish market leading organization, business models allow for firms to put a plan to paper and
support their plan with data. This allows an organization to plan carefully for the risks and
opportunites that they will face as they put the model into practice.
RQ3 What role do value propositions perform in successful business models? At least 2 paragraphs.
Osterwalder and Pigneur (2010) describe value propositions as the bundle of products and services
that create value for a specific customer segment. (22) This building block of a business model is
essential in that it is the reason why consumers value one company over another. Value Propositions
can also help organizations create customer loyalty and retention. With intense competition in
markets, value propositions are an important part of a business model because it addresses competition
and attempts to set the firm apart from the other choices presented to its customer base.

Similarities Between Japan And Russia
Although there were certain differences between Japan and Russia with regard to the role of state in
economic development during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, they were very similar
in their movement to abolish feudalism and the construction of industrial projects. Despite these
similarities they were different in their success rate by the end of this period of industrialization. Both
the Japanese and Russian government passed legislation that would assure the abolition of feudalism
and free serfs from their lords. In the mid nineteenth century the Japanese went through a period
commonly known as The Meiji Restoration. During this period major changes occurred, one of them
being the shift from a shogunate to an emperor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new Japanese emperor and his advisors outlined exactly how the new economy without a feudal
system would work, distributing the feudal lands once they were lawfully taken from the feudal lords.
These new lands could house people previously under a feudal lord, so the government directly
catered to the needs of their people in such a way of providing shelter. The majority of the population
was content with their new emperor who took care of them and gladly participated in Japan s
industrial revolution, applying for jobs in the factories and assisting in railroad construction.
Alexander II did not put a plan in place to redistribute feudal lands or address the newly freed serfs at
all, instead he expected all former serfs to move to the cities and assist him in the factories. They did
move to the cities in search for job offerings and a new class emerged, referred to as the proletarians
were taken in under the mercy of the factory owners. However, they were treated horribly, working
under poor conditions and given barely enough food or space to live by their factory workers. This
class that made up a majority of Russia s population, were growing increasingly unhappy with the
emperor s rule and started to rebel. The proletarians demanded change in the historically famous
Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Russia soon was up to it s neck with internal conflicts,
unable to keep up in the world market like Japan had. If Alexander II had carefully planned their post
feudal economy as the Japanese emperor had, they would have been marginally more successful with
their newly emerged working class. However, since they did not Japan surpassed Russia in the world
market and in strength, demonstrated in the Russo Japanese War where Japan came up successful yet

Stephen Hawking himself recently posted that when true artificial intelligence is achieved, humankind

Ancient Greece Forms Of Government
There were many forms of government in Ancient Greece. The ones that will be discussed in the
following paragraphs are monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy, and democracy. First, the
definition of a monarchy is a state or nation in which the supreme power is actually or nominally
lodged in a monarch (Dictionary.com, 2017). Ancient Greek city states that had a monarchy were
Sparta (partially), as well as Macedonia and Epeiros. Monarchies were not found often in Ancient
Greece (Cartwright and Cartwright, 2017). The form of governance most like a monarchy are
tyrannies, since the center of power is on one person. The form of governance most unlike a monarchy
are democracies, since the center of power rests with the largest group, the people themselves. Second,
the definition of an aristocracy is a government or state ruled by an aristocracy, elite, or privileged
upper class (Dictionary.com, 2017). Ancient Greek city states that had an aristocracy included Athens,
as well as Sparta. Both city states had a period of their history ruled by an elite class (Brand, n.d.). The
form of governance most like aristocracy are oligarchies, since the definition of the two is almost
identical. The form of governance most unlike aristocracy are probably the democracies, because there
are more people involved in democracies, and they don t include as much of a concentration of power
or a concentration of wealth. Third, the definition of a tyranny is the government or rule of a

it does not make you a good leader. When you are brand new to an organization, you look to your

such as rain, drought, lightning, thunder and earthquake. So, ancient people believed that these natural

Even though the Roman religion is based on the Greek religion, there are number of differences
between gods of these societies. Romans have not just adopted their religion from Greeks. They have
also changed their religion according to their culture. So, if you read about Rome and Greek gods and

according to the USDA, has ranged between 10 37% of calories served (Buzby, J., Guthrie, J., 2002).
It is difficult to compare public school waste to global amounts due to the scarcity of specific data this
would depend on region, economic status and additional factors associated with how and why food is
wasted in schools. Having said that, this is a large enough problem that it is actively noticed and
prompting intervention. With these numbers rising, food waste negatively impacts costs for the
community, carbon emissions, water use and more.
However, students in the public schools are not completely to blame, as some factors affect food waste
after the implementation of some lunch programs, which are targeted to increase encourage students to
reach their recommended adequate intake of nutrients, such as the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of
2010 (Hakim, S., Meissen, G., 2017). Likewise, food serving methods have also played a role in the
amount of food wasted by students, by using the offer model and serve model approaches in
cafeterias. A non exclusive list of other issues affecting food waste in schools are: socioeconomic
status, accessibility of food at home, the time of day food is consumed, the amount of time given to
eat, student activity level, health limitations or

Happy Milk Lab
Do Happy Cows Make Better Milk?: Analysis of the Chemical Components of Milk The main goal of
this lab was to correctly separate milk into its major components. Other objectives included:
performing basic qualitative tests to confirm correct separation, identifying the major components of
milk, and assigning polar and non polar properties to components of milk. The goal of separating the
components of milk was desirable because their differences in properties required different techniques
to separate them. The casein, Vitamins A, D, and E, and fats were all nonpolar and therefore dissolved
in nonpolar solutions.1 Whey, lactose, calcium, phosphate, vitamin B, vitamin C, and water were all
polar and therefore dissolved in polar solutions.1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The protein was unraveled as disruptions occurred in the protein s secondary and tertiary structures.2
The result of denaturation was solid whey protein. The lactose, calcium, phosphate, and water were
unaffected by the heating process and remained liquid. In the third separation, ethyl acetate was added
to dissolve the fats mixed with the casein. Casein, unable to dissolve in the nonpolar solution,
remained a white solid.1 The ethyl acetate, with a lower boiling point than the fat, was boiled off,
leaving a yellow liquid containing fat and various fat soluble vitamins. Vitamin A caused the liquid to
be yellow, which confirmed the presence of vitamins. The residue was added to water, where it proved
to be insoluble in water. This indicated that the residue contained fat, because fat was the only
nonpolar liquid remaining at the end of the separations. The tests for carbohydrates, lactose, calcium,
and phosphates performed on the liquid portion from the second separation were all positive. This was
expected, so no errors were made in the first or second separation. The tests for proteins performed on
the solids produced from the separation were both positive, so no errors were made in the separations
that isolated casein and whey. The test for proteins performed on the liquid portion from the second
separation was negative. This was expected because it meant that all of the whey was removed from
this portion in the denaturing

Italian Immigration And New Immigration
From 1890 onward became a part of what is known as New Immigration, which became known as the
third and largest wave of immigration to America from Europe. This wave consisted of Slavs, Jews,
and Italians. Three million Italians, which was the largest new immigrants, immigrated to America.
These immigrants represented all regions of Italy most of them being from Southern Italy. Italian
immigrants were driven from their homelands for the many hardships they faced and hoped that
America would benefit to their cause only to find that they were faced with new struggles.
Many Italians were often referred to as birds of passage because they had only planned on staying in
the United States temporarily just until they could gain enough money to support their life back in
Italy. Poverty, overpopulation, politics, and natural disasters have had Italians packing but only
temporarily. Poverty was the main reason that Italians felt the need to leave. With northern Italians in
control of the government high taxes and protective tariffs on northern industries hurt southern
Italians. Along with that, roughly eighty percent of Italians lived off of agriculture. Many farming
tools were inefficient due to the lack of modern technology, which did not allow for improvement.
Farmers often lived in a one room house with no plumbing or even privacy which were harsh
conditions in comparison to others. These people were isolated being that there were no roads, making
it extremely hard to make

The Little Mermaid Feminist Criticism
Hans Christian Andersen s story, The Little Mermaid talks about a girl who saves a young man from
drowning and falls in love with him, and she later learns that the young man she saved was a prince.
In this world women believe that they are not capable of doing nothing or being nothing without a
man in their lives. Disney s film, The Little Mermaid , by Ron Clements and John Musker, present a
version that makes an appearance for children, so it is harder to catch on where a woman needs a man
in her life whether it is her father or a husband. In the Disney film the director makes the mermaid
(Ariel) look so vulnerable and weak for a young woman. Women now these days say that they were
made to believe that they have to depend on a man because they will not make it without them. In the
story the author made it seem like all women cannot do want they want or that they are limited to do
and say certain things because they are women. Women grow up to believe and to think that they need
a man because that is how many men and society made women and young girls look like. So, part of
this faulting it the men because they beliefs are that women cannot do what they do or that women and
young girls belong at home to behave right and look pretty for the men. Andersen is a good example
of Feminist and Gender criticism because women should believe that they can make it without having
to rely on a man. Women should start believing that they are as equal as a man whether it s at a job,
relationship, at home, and in society because we are not meant to be looked at as a fragile and weak
woman, we are supposed to show everyone that women should be equal to men on all types of levels.
Andersen examines representation of gender, dependence, and cultural stability to explore notions of
equality in gender. Andersen examines representation of gender because both men and women need to
be looked upon as equals with one another. For example, there are many times when a women needs
help and most men think that she is a damsel in distress , because a woman that needs saving looks
fragile and needs a man to save her. This also shows that usually the women are the ones being saved,
so that the men can be the ones doing

  • 2. Elton John s Song Ticking Ticking is one of Elton John s most powerful and under rated songs. Bernie Taupin, Elton s song writer, wrote the words why Elton wrote the music, and together they created a song that presents a strong statement. It is a story about a fictional young man who is seemingly normal, but in the end, he snaps and unleashes his carnage. For a song released in 1974, years before mass shootings like Columbine, Aroura, and Orlando, it is eerie that it can relate to so many mass shooting that have happened in the past few years. Elton and Bernie are giving a warning in this song that, as a society, we should focus on trying to reduce gun violence and focus more on mental health. Looking at the title, Ticking may not immediately mean anything, but once you dig into the lyrics of the song it becomes clear. It refers to a young man who is seemingly normal and very quiet, however in the end he snaps. Ticking is being used as a metaphor to represent the young man who appears normal but is slowly getting closer to the breaking point. The first stanza begins in a calm tone like the ... • 5. Solar System Advantages There are many different items that make up the solar system, and they are all classified very differently. Two of the most important items in our solar system are the planets and the moons. They differ in geologic activity, composition, interior structure, magnetic fields, and atmospheres. There are multiple probe missions, both past and present, that support these concepts. There are physical factors and characteristics that are important in determining the property of the items. In this paper, I will discuss all of these topics as well as what benefits I think there are so studying other worlds as well as the benefits I see to studying the solar system and why. The moon has no real atmosphere so there can be no weatherly erosion, which is an issue some planets have. The atmosphere is basically comprised of gases that surround the moon. The moon has an extremely low gravity and cools more rapidly than some planets. It does not have any plate tectonics. The surface of the moon has been created from years of impact by craters and volcanoes. The moon is often comprised of the crust, the mantle, and the core. The moon is best observed through telescope observations, however; the moon has always been subject to lunar landings, lunar samples, and orbiting space crafts. The moon has a very weak magnetic field in comparison to planets such as the Earth. The moon does not have a dipolar magnetic field. The crust is where most magnetization occurs. The first moon ... • 6. Nuclear Energy And Its Effects 1. Background Nuclear energy can be produced by fission, by splitting a nucleus into smaller products, (precisely equal parts). These products are equal to half of the original mass. In the process of nuclear fission, energy and neutrons will be emitted. Along with the emission of neutrons, also during the process of fission, a large amount of a product s energy is released. Every day we are surrounded by so much radiation however, only some radiation can be harmful to us. Radiation such as microwaves, radio waves, and infrared are classes as non ionizing and are not a threat to humans. They also have a less powerful ionizing rate compared to alpha particles. Gamma rays are energy, also known as electromagnetic radiation. They have no charge or mass. They move through the air extremely quickly (at the speed of light) and to ionize them, they need to directly hit the nucleus of an atom. This suggests that gamma rays have a very low ionizing rate and can travel much t=further through the air compared to alpha and beta particles. Nuclear fuelled power plants are very similar to fossil fuelled power pants, in which they both turn water into steam in order to control the turbine generators that produce energy; the only difference is the source of heat. At nuclear power plants, a nuclear reactor produces and controls the amount of energy that is released when atoms of Uranium split, which is called fission. The heat that is used to make this steam is created by this form of fission. Uranium fuelled nuclear power plants are a clean and efficient way of boiling water to produce the steam that is used to operate the turbine generators within the power plant. • 7. The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment In Western Europe The Age of Enlightenment saw many great changes in Western Europe. It was an age of reason and philosophes. During this age, changes the likes of which had not been seen since ancient times took place. Such change affected evert pore of Western European society. Many might argue that the Enlightenment really did not bring any real change, however, there exists and overwhelming amount of facts which prove, without question, that the spirit of the Enlightenment was one of change specifically change which went against the previous teachings of the Catholic Church. Such change is apparent in the ideas, questions, and philosophies of the time, in the study of science, and throughout the monarchial system. Previously, the Catholic Church had professed to the entire medieval world that faith in God was absolute. Indeed, the medieval world was truly an age of faith. As such, ideas that went against the teachings of God were ignored and their preachers subsequently murdered. After the Crusades brought back old Aristotelian learning from the middle east, all this changed. Advances in Geography were made with the introduction of Ptolemaic Geography. More importantly than the rediscovery of ancient geography was the beginning of skepticism in Western Europe. No longer would the Church s word be taken on faith. The idea that the physical world could be understood through the use of empiricism analytical thought was also introduced. RenĂ© Descartes even began to doubt his own existence ... Ants exposed to radiations as a result of nuclear testing, has turned them into gigantic, mutated ants that are terrorizing the people of New Mexico. The giant mutant ants are used in the film to not only show the dangers of nuclear war, but to portray the soviets in a new way. In the film, Dr.Medford refers to ants in general as savage, ruthless, and courageous fighters . By labeling the ants as savage and almost barbaric creatures, the same could be said about the Soviets at the time. The Soviets were seen as hard, and crude like the ants in the film, who attacked and killed innocent people.By looking at the poster for the film, we can see the correlation between ants and Communists. The poster features a frightened women in the jaws of a mutant ant screaming kill one and two more take its place! . Both the giant ants and the soviets were seen to operate as a hydra. The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the late 19th century Parisian anarchist journal, provides not only an insight into popular fin de siĂšcle French print culture, but also a beautiful case study in the techniques developed by leading artists in the realm of fine art lithography. It is the goal of this exhibit to explore the place of the graphic arts in early modern art through the example of this journal, and to examine more closely the stylistic hallmarks of the lithograph in a more detailed way. Lithography: Method Lithography is planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and water. In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease treated image on the flat printing surface. Non image areas hold moisture and repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then printed by means of a special press as in most fine art printmaking . The earliest though no longer the only method of creating lithographs involved the use of a block of porous limestone. An image is drawn with tusche a carbon pigment in liquid form, and litho crayon a type of grease pencil before the printing surface is fixed, moistened, and inked in preparation for printing. • 12. The And Of The Jewish Culture Another way this affected the original listener was by finally opening the door to having a personal, powerful, and intimate relationship with Yeshua. In the Jewish culture, everyone read and studied the Torah. It was not like how it is today in the West. When speaking of knowledge, God isn t referring to intellect most of the time. The word heart really means the mind in much of scripture. When Jesus said He wants His people to know Him, He means to love Him with everything, which is shown by obeying His commandments. Love is a decision, not just an emotion. The whole reason Jesus came back was to reestablish the connection that was lost with the fall of man. Jesus abolished the sin barrier that had been between God and man for so long. A Father wants a true and pure relationship with his children; God is the exact same way in the sense of wanting intimacy. He desired this close relationship so badly that He sent His only Son, His FIRSTBORN to bore the cross and face rejection yet again. Even when looking at the significance of the firstborn to the Jewish culture will provide an even richer revelation to how incredible and infinite Adonai s agape love is for His Children. In Luke 10: 8 9, it shows that Jesus sent out His disciples to minister and told them every town and village they entered that they were to dine and eat with people in whatever homes would accept them; when they were healing the sick, they were to say The Kingdom of God has come near you. • 20. Slavery During The Twentieth Century Jeremy Black has recently stated slavery played a major role in the twentieth century. The twentieth century, he argues, witnessed a highpoint in slavery as it rose to a new peak. He defines slavery as being public which differs from the conventional account of enslavement, economic exploitation and racism. For Black, the conventional account of slavery has been easier to define and confront. This dissertation through the work of three authors: Buchi Emecheta, Ayi Kwei Armah and Tayeb Salih aims to act as a corrective to approaches similar to Black s theory, that slavery has been easily defined, by demonstrating the tension between remembering and forgetting history. The twentieth century narratives trace the history of the Atlantic slave trade through contemporary Africa, reflecting the role of slavery in present day. The works unearth remnants of the past in order to locate African memories in literature and bring them forth from the margins of history. Each author originates from different geographical locations in Africa, which allows various forms of slavery to emerge in the narratives, representing slavery as continuing to haunt the African psyche. When comparing the two sexes, males are more muscular and hold an average weight of 95 pounds compared to an average of 82 pounds and a slighter built female, a 15 percent weight difference between them. Sexual dimorphism is also apparent in that males possess a unique dental trait, long canines, a feature that females lack. Both sexes are similar in that neither has a height advantage, averaging 2.3 to 3 feet in height. We can look at the different themes or how the character interacts with one another, but one thing in particular I want to talk about is homecoming . What are the different types of journeys that we see throughout The Odyssey that tells about homecoming ? There are different characters throughout the poem that strive for this goal. With this they have to interact with others throughout the poem to effectively accomplish their goal and their journey. First, we look at what different types of journeys there are through the play. One example, a very popular example, is Odysseus s journey home from war. After the war Odysseus is stranded on an island The only way for him to get off is to build a boat and he gets this idea from Hermes. Hermes is the God of communication. But until Odysseus is actually home in Ithaca he will not feel as though he is home. Odysseus goes through and endures a lot to get to his final destination, but when going through this journey he realizes that the journey was the destination and that he was really home all along. Both the Japanese and Russian government passed legislation that would assure the abolition of feudalism and free serfs from their lords. The majority of the population was content with their new emperor who took care of them and gladly participated in Japan s industrial revolution, applying for jobs in the factories and assisting in railroad construction. Alexander II did not put a plan in place to redistribute feudal lands or address the newly freed serfs at all, instead he expected all former serfs to move to the cities and assist him in the factories. One largely contributing factor is food waste produced from the public schools. The amount of food wasted in schools, according to the USDA, has ranged between 10 37% of calories served (Buzby, J., Guthrie, J., 2002). It is difficult to compare public school waste to global amounts due to the scarcity of specific data this would depend on region, economic status and additional factors associated with how and why food is wasted in schools. Having said that, this is a large enough problem that it is actively noticed and prompting intervention. With these numbers rising, food waste negatively impacts costs for the community, carbon emissions, water use and more. However, students in the public schools are not completely to blame, as some factors affect food waste after the implementation of some lunch programs, which are targeted to increase encourage students to reach their recommended adequate intake of nutrients, such as the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 (Hakim, S., Meissen, G., 2017). Other objectives included: performing basic qualitative tests to confirm correct separation, identifying the major components of milk, and assigning polar and non polar properties to components of milk. The goal of separating the components of milk was desirable because their differences in properties required different techniques to separate them. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The protein was unraveled as disruptions occurred in the protein s secondary and tertiary structures.2 The result of denaturation was solid whey protein. The lactose, calcium, phosphate, and water were unaffected by the heating process and remained liquid. In the third separation, ethyl acetate was added to dissolve the fats mixed with the casein. Casein, unable to dissolve in the nonpolar solution, remained a white solid.1 The ethyl acetate, with a lower boiling point than the fat, was boiled off, leaving a yellow liquid containing fat and various fat soluble vitamins. Vitamin A caused the liquid to be yellow, which confirmed the presence of vitamins. The residue was added to water, where it proved to be insoluble in water. This indicated that the residue contained fat, because fat was the only nonpolar liquid remaining at the end of the separations. The tests for carbohydrates, lactose, calcium, and phosphates performed on the liquid portion from the second separation were all positive. This was expected, so no errors were made in the first or second separation. The tests for proteins performed on the solids produced from the separation were both positive, so no errors were made in the separations that isolated casein and whey. The test for proteins performed on the liquid portion from the second separation was negative. • 42. Italian Immigration And New Immigration From 1890 onward became a part of what is known as New Immigration, which became known as the third and largest wave of immigration to America from Europe. This wave consisted of Slavs, Jews, and Italians. Three million Italians, which was the largest new immigrants, immigrated to America. These immigrants represented all regions of Italy most of them being from Southern Italy. Italian immigrants were driven from their homelands for the many hardships they faced and hoped that America would benefit to their cause only to find that they were faced with new struggles. Many Italians were often referred to as birds of passage because they had only planned on staying in the United States temporarily just until they could gain enough money to support their life back in Italy. Poverty, overpopulation, politics, and natural disasters have had Italians packing but only temporarily. Poverty was the main reason that Italians felt the need to leave. With northern Italians in control of the government high taxes and protective tariffs on northern industries hurt southern Italians. Along with that, roughly eighty percent of Italians lived off of agriculture. Many farming tools were inefficient due to the lack of modern technology, which did not allow for improvement. • 43. The Little Mermaid Feminist Criticism Hans Christian Andersen s story, The Little Mermaid talks about a girl who saves a young man from drowning and falls in love with him, and she later learns that the young man she saved was a prince. In this world women believe that they are not capable of doing nothing or being nothing without a man in their lives. Disney s film, The Little Mermaid , by Ron Clements and John Musker, present a version that makes an appearance for children, so it is harder to catch on where a woman needs a man in her life whether it is her father or a husband. In the Disney film the director makes the mermaid (Ariel) look so vulnerable and weak for a young woman. Women now these days say that they were made to believe that they have to depend on a man because they will not make it without them. In the story the author made it seem like all women cannot do want they want or that they are limited to do and say certain things because they are women. Women grow up to believe and to think that they need a man because that is how many men and society made women and young girls look like. So, part of this faulting it the men because they beliefs are that women cannot do what they do or that women and young girls belong at home to behave right and look pretty for the men. Andersen is a good example of Feminist and Gender criticism because women should believe that they can make it without having to rely on a man. Women should start believing that they are as equal as a man whether it s at a job, relationship, at home, and in society because we are not meant to be looked at as a fragile and weak woman, we are supposed to show everyone that women should be equal to men on all types of levels. Andersen examines representation of gender, dependence, and cultural stability to explore notions of equality in gender. Andersen examines representation of gender because both men and women need to be looked upon as equals with one another. For example, there are many times when a women needs help and most men think that she is a damsel in distress , because a woman that needs saving looks fragile and needs a man to save her. This also shows that usually the women are the ones being saved, so that the men can be the ones doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
