Reston Research Paper
Reston is a census designated place located in Northern Virginia s Fairfax County, about 20 miles
north of Washington D.C. Containing four artificial lakes (among which Lake Anne and Lake Thoreau
are the most famous), the town encompasses a total area of 17.4 square miles. According to the 2010
census, Reston s population is 56,407 residents. Founded in 1964, modern Reston is internationally
known as the first planned residential community. Reston s history began in 1649, when King Charles
II of England assigned vast areas of land in Northern Virginia to seven of his supporters. During the
18th century, Lord Fairfax the descendant of the original land owners decided to auction it off for $5
per acre. In 1886, the property which later became Reston was bought by William Dunn and Dr. Carl
Wiehle. For several years, Dr. Wiehle drafted plans for what he imagined to become a Utopian new
city. In 1897, he even incorporated a town with his own name. Although Wiehle died soon after the
construction of first buildings and the Utopian project was abandoned, some 80 years later his ideas

parks, wildflower meadows and wooded areas. With recreational areas of more than fifteen hundred
acres (including golf courses, public pools, bridle paths, and tennis courts) 23 educational institutions
of all levels and a state of the art medical complex, it s no wonder that CNN Money Magazine ranked

Multi Car Crash Essay
Multi Vehicle Car Crash in Elk Grove Results in One Fatality According to The Sacramento Bee, a
multi vehicle car crash in Elk Grove claimed the life of one man and injured several others. The
collision happened on Friday afternoon about 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of Laguna Boulevard and
Laguna Oaks Drive. Eyewitnesses reported that a speeding SUV rear ended a Toyota Prius that was
stopped in rush hour traffic. The Prius driver was killed in the collision. The collision began a chain
reaction that involved five other vehicles. Two other people were injured in the multi vehicle car
crash. Proving Fault in a Multi Vehicle Car Crash To receive compensation for injuries sustained in a

Evaluation. California s Comparative Negligence Standard With California s pure comparative
negligence standard, a driver may still recover damages even if the driver is partially at fault for the
collision. In other words, if you are 20% at fault for the multi vehicle car crash, you can still receive
compensation for 80% of your damages. In a two vehicle car accident, the math is simple. If your
damages are $100,000, you would receive $80,000 in compensation ($100,000 less 20 percent). A
multi vehicle car crash complicates this simple math. Several drivers may be partially to blame for the
collision. Sorting out who did what and assigning percentages of fault can be a complex undertaking.
It is crucial that you are not held liable for a higher percentage of fault than is actually the case
because your settlement will be reduced by this percentage. This is why you need an experienced

Personification In Animal Farm
The key to the success of Animal Farm lies in the fact that it was not just a political novel. Nor was
Orwell the politics obsessed figure of legend. His childhood friend Cyril Connolly wrote that he was
always incorrigibly political, so that he couldn t blow his nose without moralizing on the state of the
linen industry. Yet such a view is partly exaggeration, partly anachronism (Pearce 49).
Animal Farm by George Orwell symbolizes the Russian Revolution that happened in 1905.
Throughout this book, Orwell compares the book with the Russian Revolution through
characterization, personification, and allegory. Characterization is the representation of a character
who takes on the actions, gestures, and even speech patterns, of certain people. Personification is the
representation of an abstract quality in human form. Lastly, allegory is when a story has a meaning or
a moral or an allegory can be represented as a symbol. Orwell ... Show more content on

It has described the animals to compare and represent the people within the Russian Revolution. In
some ways, he clearly emphasizes the similarities between the beasts on Animal Farm and the humans
whom they are designed to represent. (Letemendia 127). One good example of personification is that
Napoleon is represented as Joseph Stalin. Stalin and Napoleon used violence to maintain order. For
example, when Napoleon used the dogs to chase off Snowball. Napoleon wanted the farm to go his
way, instead of working together with the other pigs and animals. So then when Snowball presented
the windmill idea, Napoleon thought it was brilliant but wanted to claim the idea for himself later and
chase off Snowball. Napoleon also used the dogs to kill the animals that have fessed up supposably to
be working with Snowball. Stalin was widely seen as a cruel leader who would eliminate anyone who
got in his way, and millions of people who refused to cooperate with him were executed as a result.

Explain The Structure Of The Heart
The heart is the organ that pumps blood throughout the body and to your lungs. It supplies nutrients
and oxygen to many tissues and removes the waste products and carbon dioxide. The heart has 4
chambers called the left and right atrium and the left and right ventricle. These are separated by valves
that stop the backflow of the blood that may occur due to the pumping motion. The other two valves
separate the entrances to the aorta and the pulmonary artery. The right side of your heart receives de
oxygenated blood from the aorta which is bringing the blood from which cells have extracted nutrients
and oxygen. It then pumps this blood to the lungs which releases the carbon dioxide and replenishes
the oxygen. This blood then comes back through

However according to the researches organizations must be careful in choosing the type of the
employee involvement. In order to choose the right type of employee involvement in the process of
change organizations should pay attention to the criteria s as follows; roles, skills, resource,
commitment, outputs, and data (Vidal, 2007). Furthermore the author argues that choosing the right
type of employee involvement effects positively in the process of change, commitment and also
reduces cost. Whereas choosing the wrong employee involvement type will negative impact in time
planning, solutions, and also in financial resources. However, (M.Gale J.Clay, 2001) believes that in
order to gain the level of the commitment during the change, the organizations should highly consider
to use some of the other involvement tools such as; communication, education, group discussion,
support, feedback and reward. By giving the people the opportunity the express their opinions in the
individual basis, it is great way to understand their feelings for any concern or any possible fear they
might have for the process of change. On the other hand education is also another indicator that
certainly increase the level of employee commitment before and also during the change

Montana is known as it beauty. There is many activities to do in this gorgeous state such as, going to
Glacier National Park, skiing, hiking, boating, fishing/ fly fishing , really good hunting, going to

The Unnatural Institution
Slavery has been a correlating characteristic among all major civilizations. The Sumerians made those
they conquered their slaves, and used them for manual labor. The Egyptians made their slaves build
large extravagant tombs for the pharos. Romans also forced those they capture into servitude, but the
Romans also turned slavery into a commodity which allowed it to be capitalized. There where laws
that allowed a father to sell his child in to slavery. The development of all of the great ancient cities
has been on the foundation of slavery. Jurist Gaius wrote Slavery is a human Invention and not found

And you who are so busy in making that division of the captives, look with pity upon so much misery
(Yazawa Pg. 19), this statement expresses how one Portuguese seaman felt when loading up the
captured slaves. He lets the reader know that he is feeling compassion for these slaves. Empathizing
and sympathizing is natural, extended exposure to these slave trades would leave the sailors stripped
of these natural feelings. In My Bondage My Freedom, Douglass tells us that Mrs. Auld was teaching
him how to read until her husband found out. Her husband had informed her that this boy was not a
boy but property, and if educated could cause problems. After that discussion she ignored her
nurturing, motherly instincts and would treat and look at Douglass in distain. The last group that is
affected by slavery is those in which do not own slaves and are not a slave themselves. Initially one
would assume that there would be no correlation to the cause and effect of slavery to this particular
group of individuals, but in fact there is. Slavery being cheap labor is not free labor. In slavery there is
a financial cost expended by the slave holder. This cost is induced through food, housing and more
importantly training and tools to complete production. The slaves were trained in handling tools to
complete tasks. Many of the non slave owners did not have

The Debate Over the Constitutionality of the Affordable...
Essay 3 The question of whether or not Congress has the power to force people to buy health
insurance has been highly advocated by the supporters, and highly scrutinized by the opposition. The
constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 has thus been defended on
both sides. Advocates argues why it is constitutional by providing reason and benefits of the Act, and
the opposition argues why it is not constitutional by providing reason, and stating the drawbacks of the
Act. The debate about the Constitutionality of the Act boils down to whether has Congress violated its
powers as outlined in Article I of the Constitution. Article I gives three main powers to Congress, and
those were restated by the Supreme Court in Perez v. United States. Firstly, Congress can regulate the
channels of interstate commerce. Secondly, Congress has the authority to regulate and protect the
instrumentalities of interstate commerce and persons or things in interstate commerce. Thirdly,
Congress has the power to regulate activities that substantially affect interstate commerce. However,
the last step is at interest regarding this topic because it draws attention towards the participation/non
participation about the Affordable Care Act that could potentially affect interstate commerce. This is
concerning because although the local activities implied in the third power do not directly participate
in interstate commerce, all local activities within the U.S

The book written by Thucydides, History of the Peloponnesian War, contains two controversial
debates between distinguished speakers of Athens. The two corresponding sides produce convincing
arguments which can be taken as if produced as an honest opinion or out of self interest. The two
debates must be analyzed separately in order to conclude which one and which side was speaking out
of honest opinion or self interest, as well as which speakers are similar to each other in their approach
to the situation. In the Mytilene Debate the two speakers are Creon, presenting the side in favor of

Motocross: Sport or Not
Even though some would consider motocross racing a hobby or a game rather then a sport because of
their opinions, a person should understand that motocross racing is a sport in today s world because it
contains all the elements of the definition of what a sport is and Motocross is a sport due to the fact
that it requires an individual to be in top shape, both mentally and physically as defined by the word
sport. What exactly determines whether or not an activity is a sport? The term sport is defined by The

A rider must meet the distance, ride to the height of the hills, and race in a timely manner as to get to
the finish line first. This gives the rider the victory of that checkered flag. No matter who is asked the
question of what makes a sport a sport the answer is always a split. It seems to be that opinion and not
based on the facts of what is required of a sport to be called a sport. Once again the argument can be
made that games are things that require skill but not necessarily athleticism. Motocross requires both
and then some, thus it is a sport! I started riding dirt bikes as a pastime when I was in junior high. As I
improved on my riding skills, I realized that I wanted to excel in this activity, and began to see it more
as a sport than a pastime. Yes, I said sport. Anyone that does not believe that Motocross racing is a
sport is not living on the planet earth. Motocross involves the physical ability to hold your bike up
while making turns and jumps at speeds that sometimes surpass a car on a city street and are
sometimes higher than a two story building. Motocross definitely requires someone in great physical
condition to perform these feats. The bikes are not light like a bicycle but are extremely heavy and
seem to get heavier the more you ride them. I feel that this requirement proves one of the definitions
above; physical endurance. Next, rules of competition are made for each track that a racer

The Way Of Self Regulation
The way self regulation occurs will change over time based off of what culture the child lives in. For
instance, crying is an acceptable form of self regulation for a baby, but not for a teenager so the
teenager must find another way to self regulate when a challenge pops up (neurons to neighborhoods).
A part of self regulation (which falls under the emotional part of self regulation) that is very important
for infants to develop is effortful control, or how well the infant can prevent impulses, cope with
negative emotions, and behave in a way that is socially acceptable (Berk). It also predicts conscience,
empathy, guilt, and low aggression, and gives children the ability to do something else when they are
affected negatively so they aren t overwhelmed. Low effortful control is a consistent predictor of
externalizing problems (temperament and personality, Rothbart). Infants show that they are beginning
to obtain emotional self regulation around 12 18 months (Berk). With this evidence it is very obvious
that self regulation is an important part of development. If a child isn t able to learn how to self
regulate, he/she would not be able to learn important motor abilities, or have the capacity to deal
properly with emotions. The best way children learn how to self regulate is by watching, interacting,
and learning from others. This, and other things, are what determine that relationships with others are
essential for healthy development. Early relationships are different

Dr Strangelove Essay
Stanley Kubrick s sexual parody, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the
Bomb, illustrates an unfathomed nuclear catastrophe. Released in the midst of the Cold War, this 1964
film satirizes the heightened tensions between America and Russia. Many sexual insinuations are
implemented to ridicule the serious issue of a global nuclear holocaust, in an effort to countervail the
terror that plagued America at that time. Organizing principles, such as Kubrick s blunt political
attitudes about the absurdity of war and the satirical genre, are echoed by the film style of his anti war
black comedy, Dr. Strangelove. The black comedy follows the story of a paranoid U.S. Air Force
Commander, General Ripper, who irrationally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the beginning, the viewer is informed that the bombers have two hours before they attack, and
the almost continuous temporal relation between plot time and real time evokes suspense. For
instance, in the War Room , the large map of Russia that displays the progress of the planes towards
their targets coincides with actual screen time, creating increased anticipation and consternation.
The majority of the film s sound is derived exclusively from diegetic speech and sound effects that
bolster its overall realism. However, the first instance of nondiegetic sound occurs in the opening
credits when a male narrator provides rudimentary background information on the Doomsday Device .
This voice over narration stimulates the suspense of the narrative while providing the spectator with
unrestricted information by revealing more insight than the characters know at this point. The ensuing
credits sequence incorporates the song Try a Little Tenderness which communicates the idea that men
should be tender with their women. The romantic song is cunningly integrated with the image of two
B 52 bombers connecting, as one refuels the other. The sequence is suggestive of romance and the
physical act of love. Following Dr. Strangelove s infamous speech at the conclusion of the film, a

and then Cathy chose to give her money to Aaron. Cal escaped living off the money of evil; he is the
one that got away because of timshel. The fortune that the Trask family has inherited is symbolic for
the sins running through the family and because cal escaped the earnings from evil, he escaped the
lifelong dependency on evil for his life, he could now choose to be good. Free will helps cal realize
that he doesn t have to be bad and helps him choose the right path, this is important not only for the
realization but also something that he craves, a blessing.
Steinbeck portrays the significance of timshel through the blessing of Adam and the impact after that.
After Adam encounters a stroke from finding out that Aaron died in the war, Caleb confronts him with
the truth of how he is the culprit of Aaron s death. Adam then speaks his last word saying timshel to
Caleb as a blessing for him. The blessing of timshel offers Cal forgiveness and the possibility of

Comparing Stories Came To Earth And Master Cat
A folktale and fairy tale could never acquire more similarities. How Stories Came to Earth and Master
Cat are two compelling stories about a trickster trying to maintain a specific goal. A trickster tale is a
story containing a main character who is an anthropomorphized animal that uses their wits to get what
they want. Anthropomorphism is a god, animal, or object that has human characteristics. Each story
has key points that have similarities to each other, such as the main characters or their determination to
achieve a goal. However, some key points differentiate from those of the other, for example the
techniques used to achieve the goal or the story s perspective on women. How Stories Came to Earth
and Master Cat have many similarities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One difference would include the characters using different techniques to achieve their destined goal.
Anansi wants to receive the stories from Nyame. In order to receive the stories, Anansi tricked the
creatures into a trap where he was then able to capture them. Master Cat killed the Ogre in order to get
into a castle and trick the king into believing that his master. By doing this, the king was convinced
that the cat s master was well raised and is committed enough to marry his daughter. Another
difference is the cultural importance in each one. Anansi and the story about him is an appropriate
example of teaching values and history. It teaches history by Anansi telling the stories he receives at
the end to the rest of the world in his webs. The text describes this by saying When Anansi brought
home the wooden box of stories to his home, he and his wife eagerly learned each one of
them...Everywhere you look, they spin their webs for all to see (Kaleki). Master Cat and the story
about him explains the cultural importance of social status. The two stories have contrasting examples
of important beings. The important being in How Stories Came to Earth is a god. Examples of
important beings in Master Cat are an ogre and a king. Finally, the two stories have two very distinct
perspectives on women. Anansi and Aso are inferred as equal, meaning men and women are
equivalent.

the share price shot up in July but then proceeded to lose around a third of its value to December, as
investors panicked about stock market and real estate declines.
The New York Stock Exchange, the biggest in the world by market capitalisation, was arguably a safer

That the share price has been so volatile is a measure of the risk in instigating an IPO in relatively
uncharted waters.
Risk is a core reason why other luxury goods companies, with an eye on a Hong Kong listing, have
hesitated. Prada was bold in its listing strategy, and that has to be one of the biggest lessons. It is one

it is another to act on it

On Halloween morning, Bethany and her best friend Alana along with her father, Holt and her brother,

You could see the determination and willingness not to give up and her not wanting to leave until she

surfboard on the ground and goes into the water with it as she tries to encourage the children watching
her go into the water to let them know that the water isn t harmful which I find inspiring.

The Relation Between Stalin And Hitler
Throughout the course of history, a vast quantity of dictators left their impression on the world as we
know it today, each having gained notoriety as a result of their rapid rise to power and their infamous
dynamisms which made them who they are known to be.
The two most notable leaders in history who express such qualities are Joseph Stalin of the Soviet
Union, and Adolf Hitler from the German Nazi regime, and these two men, different as they were,
displayed symmetric roles throughout their times in control.
The relation between Stalin and Hitler begins with their anonymously parallel childhoods. While

Legalization On Drugs
America is at war with drugs. Since drug use has become an epidemic in America, the government
now has an extremely strict drug policy in effect. Some Americans deem the policy to be inefficient
and as a result would like to banish drug laws completely. In contrast others find the strict policy to be
an effective strategy in the war against drugs. Since the war on drugs has become a huge crisis in
American society, one day Americans will have to decide whether or not they support the legalization
of drugs. Those who do and do not want to legalize drugs both use government spending, mandatory
sentencing, and civil liberties to argue their side on either policy. Many Americans believe that
legalizing drugs would reduce the government s deficit, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Americans that do not oppose drug legalization stand firm on the belief that choosing to use drugs
is a personal choice that one should not be punished for. If one does choose to do drugs it is a lifestyle
choice that they have chosen and locking someone away in federal prison for simply living a certain
lifestyle seems to be an unfair punishment. Those fighting for legalization think that drug use should
be a civil liberty (Drug Legalization). Former Seattle Chief of Police, Norm Stamper, stated in
declaring a war on drugs... we ve declared a war on our fellow citizens (qtd. in Drug Legalization).
Many of the American s wanting drugs legalized, do believe that the choice to do drugs is a bad
decision. Though they argue that there are many Americans that have experimented with drugs and no
one should be sent to federal prison for simply making a bad decision (Johnson). As well as those who
are for drug legalization, those against it also believe that doing drugs is a lifestyle choice, but not a
civil liberty and those who do choose to do drugs should be punished. If drugs were legalized they
would be much more present, which would most likely lead to more drug abuse. Drug abusers not
only hurt themselves, but they hurt their families, friends, communities, and the American society as a
whole (Drug Legalization). Drug abuse takes tolls on the health and wellbeing of the user

Importance Of Deserving My Education
I am deserving of this award due to how I have faced the challenges in my life to continue and
improve my education. Throughout my life I ve made sacrifices that most of my peers would not do
willingly. From childhood I knew that achieving the best grades and challenging myself in academics
would allow me to pursue what I wanted later in life, and I knew it wouldn t be easy. I have sacrificed
uncountable amounts of hours that I could have spent with friends or doing other fun activities, to
study for my classes. As an example, my mom s side of the family has had many funerals in the recent
past. I have chose to miss some of these funerals to stay in school. I do not do this because I don t love
my relatives. I miss the funerals because I know how important school is, and that my relatives would
want me to succeed in getting a great education and achieving my goals. Making major sacrifices like
this allowed me to keep a 4.0 G.P.A. throughout my educational career, and deepen my knowledge of
world around me. Not only have I been able to make the sacrifices needed to keep myself ahead of
game, but I ve also managed to master my time management skills.
I have always loved soccer, and I have push myself time and time again to work at becoming the best I
can be. So, when I came into high school and the load of school work and time dedicated to soccer
increased, and I knew had to find a way to balance both. This is an issue I constantly see my peers
struggling with, but not me. I

Analysis Of The First Bible Of Charles The Bald
Situated at the closing of the First Bible of Charles the Bald, or the Vivian Bible, the illumination has
its provenance in a wider space of cultural expression which was characterised by the confluence of
religion and spheres of power within the Carolingian dynasty. The image further extends to represent
an intersection of the genre of speculum principis with that of the visuality of art, of which Diebold
notes the Bible was the most important mirror of the ruler in the Carolingian era . It is thus necessary
to emphasis the physical context of the miniature, as well as its origins in the monastery of St Martin
of Tours during the ninth century. According to Dutton and Kessler, the manuscript of the Vivian Bible

Raising Hope Analysis
Raising Hope aired in 2010 receiving 3.1 million views, opening with a chance encounter with a
wanted felon that leads to the conception of a child later named Hope. As it turns out Hope was a very
fitting name as that is it exactly what it seems to give the quirky family. It developed a loyal fan base
as people fell in love with the Chances and people of Natesville. Raising Hope made a good TV
comedy because of its talented cast, realistic family, and edgy humor.
One of the things that make Raising Hope such a good TV comedy is its talented cast. Without a
talented cast any TV comedy will fall short in being able to properly deliver its humor to their
audience. The most notable cast member is the Oscar and Emmy winning actress Cloris Leachman,
starring as Maw Maw. She received an Emmy nomination for the role. Another notable cast member is
Marth Plimpton who solidified her career by starring in the The Goonies as a child. Plimpton received
two Emmy nominations for her role as Virginia Chance.
Though Garret Dillahunt, starring as Burt Chance, lacked the recognition before Hope he also
received high praise for his roles and was nominated for a Critics Choice award. While other cast
members may not have the awards or nominations, they do not lack in talent. Hope s casting director
won the 2011 Outstanding Achievement In Casting award from the Casting Society of America.
In addition, Hope s realistic representation of a modern family aids in making it a good TV

Labor Unions And The Labor Union
Every year in this country, there are major labor disputes that result in strikes or work stoppages. In
each case, the organization, the labor union, and the public are negatively affected. Why can t there be
a better way of resolving disputes between the management and labor unions to avert unnecessary
strikes? Why does the relationship between the labor unions and management have to be adversarial in
nature? Does anybody benefit from strikes and work stoppages? These are some of the questions that I
will explore in this study. Firstly, it will seem that the management and the labor union of any
organization have a stake in the success or failure of that organization. The success of the organization
has to be the priority or the number one goal of any member or members of the organization. As such,
the entire organization has to work as a team in order to succeed, thrive and survive. In the real world,
that is not what is happening. As a matter of fact, the labor unions and the management of some
organizations see each other as adversaries. MTA Strike of Year 2000 The year 2000 saw a disastrous

The social issue that I will be addressing is the African American population and how they endured

this atrocity of enslavement. Although this social issue wasn t one that was addressed in the course, I
believe it is an essential matter that has helped shaped America and the individuals who reside here
both past and present. This act has shaped the economy, the policies, and the government in regards to
how they choose to address situations and fix them as well. The individuals of the community, activist
and advocates began to express their thoughts and feelings on the matter, in which others strongly

movement. The Abolitionist movement began in the 1830s and lasted until 1870, in which the focus of
this movement was to immediately emancipate slaves, also placing emphasis on the ending of racial
segregation and discrimination that was prevalent among society. This social movement targeted
society as a whole and the type of change it wanted to initiate was radical, in which it would be
classified as a revolutionary movement. Abolitionism was not an issue that could be surpassed decade

Traditional Fine Arts Response To Futurism
The Machine Aesthetic
Traditional Fine Arts Response to Mechanisation
Marinetti addressed the death of traditional art in his Futurist Manifesto of 1909 when he stated Why
should we look back, when what we want is to break down the mysterious doors of the Impossible?
Time and Space died yesterday. We already live in the absolute, because we have created eternal,
omnipresent speed (2001 21 2). Marinetti, among with artists of the Futurist, Vorticist and
Constructivist movements of the 20th century, believed that mechanisation was fundamental to
creating a new future where machines played a vital role in modern society. The traditional style of
painting and sculpture in accordance to Futurist principles had no place in this new future. ... Show

Kulten discusses how Epstein destroyed The Rock Drill (1913 15) because in its complete form, it was
almost too symbolic and in order to cope with his work, had to reduce it to an aesthetic work only

torso which he cast into a bronze bust in 1916. Having been involved in sculpture his entire artistic
career, Epstein reverted back to the traditional methods of creating sculptures in order to gain
familiarity in his work again. As a result of returning to traditional themes, Epstein s work lost a
majority of the revolutionary aspects that made The Rock Drill (1913 15) an important work for the
recurring theme of mechanisation that enveloped society in the early half of the 20th century (Kulten,
1969 65). Torso in Metal from The Rock Drill (1916) is an important work to consider when exploring
the machine aesthetic, as it is the expression of a frightful artist, unable to cope with the mechanical
world, thus turning his greatest creation into a lifeless bust with minimal meaning or

Children Of The Classroom Benefit Students By Teaching...
Pets in the classroom benefit students by teaching responsibility, boosting self esteem, and helping
with children with anxiety. From early childhood, the desire to keep a pet is almost universal; children
dream frequently about animals; images and pictures of animals dominate children s books; children
who keep pets often regard baby faced animals as siblings; and there appears to simply be an human
attraction to, or at least interest in, non human animals (Daly, Suggs 104). Keeping pet animals within
a teaching environment has always been a popular feature of elementary classrooms (Zasloff et al.

esteem, helping them to be more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a class pet children will learn the proper way to handle and care for the pet. Children can learn
the responsibility of taking care of an animal from having a pet in their classroom. Children will learn
what it takes to care for something other than themselves by feeding the pet lunch or cleaning out the
pet`s cage. Children are introduced to the world of animals by having a class pet, especially if they do
not have a pet at home. Students who do not have a pet at home are able to see, touch, and help take
care of one at school. When a student does not have a pet at home, they lose an experience to be close
to a non human being. Having a pet in their classroom could help them experience new feelings, gain
new abilities, and be able to understand what it is like to take care of something other than themselves.
Math and science can be brought to life with a class pet. The class can learn multiplication, fractions,
time, animal behavior, etc. Pets can also improve a child`s health. Many have done research relating to
the benefits of a person`s health. Children who have pets are less likely to get sick. Children who have
pets are at school more than children who do not. There are also some negative aspects of keeping a
class pet. One of the cons to keeping a class pet is cleaning up after it. Every pet, no matter how clean
it is, needs its cage cleaned once a week. The pet also needs care over the weekend and over breaks.

The Death Of Mary Brown
Statement of Facts On January 1, 2011, Mary Brown (victim) went jogging at 7:00 pm on the route
she had been taking for six months and passing the usual houses. Upon reaching 123 Roper Street, a
man, John Smith (defendant) ran out, tackled her to the ground, jumped on top of her, and eventually
pinned her down. Then the defendant, using a box cutter, stabbed the victim in the face, making a five
inch gash just below her left eye. While cutting the victim, the defendant stated, I watch you run by
here every day and I wave hello to you from my window, but you never wave back. You think you are
too pretty to wave at me, well now you will not be pretty anymore. The defendant s neighbor, Mike
Jones, witnessed the attack and heard everything from his yard, but was too afraid to stop the attack.
John Smith has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding. Mary Brown is a 30 year old
mother of two small children that has resided in the neighborhood for six years. She had never met the
defendant until the attack. In the four years since the attack, the victim has endured facial numbness,
partial paralysis, and plastic surgery. Every day Mary is reminded of the terrible encounter with John
Smith by the permanent five inch scar, he placed on her face. Trial has been continued several times
and the medical expert will not be available to testify. Therefore, the trial will continue on August 1,

Role Parents Play As Caregivers For Their Offspring
When one considers all the problems plaguing the world today, it is far too easy to idealize previous
civilizations as utopias where the problems of today were unknown to the relatively carefree and
altogether liberated individuals. Although their solutions to these problems may have indeed differed,
the ancient civilizations struggled with the same questions we continue to confront in our modern
world. One such problem is the role parents play as caregivers for their offspring. Historically a
female s function is to perform duties to maintain the home and nurture the children whereas a male s
role is to provide financial support. Today, the focus has shifted: the dysfunctional family has
disbanded and many women have begun to play both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also helps that the theme is illustrated heavily by the fact that each of the five central male
characters Apollonius, Archistrates, Athenagora, Antiochus, and Stranguillio is described as having
exactly one child, and in every case it is a female child. By exploring the main relationships, it is
evident that the novel aims to describe the ideal relationship between a father and his daughter by
presenting to the reader varying degrees of closeness and interactions and their subsequent benefits
and consequences.
When a boy was born to an ancient Greek family, it was a source of celebration; the arrival of a girl,
however, did not result in as much happiness. Once a wife gave birth to a baby, its kyrios, or guardian
(usually the father or another male), decided whether or not to keep the child or to expose it. Evidence
proposes that girls were exposed more often than boys, although this is not fully certain (Demand
1994, 6). If however the kyrios decided to raise the infant girl, it was given a name on the fifth or
seventh day after its birth during her amphidromia (Demand 8). The girls often received the feminine
version of the male names; by naming the girl, the males were thus preparing her for the life under the
continuous guardianship of a male. There was only one instance when the family was pleased that
they had a daughter: if there were no surviving males in the oikos, the girl would then become an
epikleros, an heiress to her father s estate and

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Monkey s Paw
In The Monkey s Paw, the paw symbolizes temptation and greed which is a flaw in all human beings.
It has the power to fulfill 3 wishes to 3 owners, making the use of it tempting to the person who owns
it. As an instance, in the beginning of the story, Mr. White is very eager to have the paw when sergeant
Morris takes it out; it is in human nature to continuously desire more that the possessions that one
already owns which is caused by temptation and greed (the paw). The paw is also symbolically related
to the snake in Adam and Eve as it leads Adam and Eve to destruction by using temptation to make
them greedy. The message that is conveyed through the paw is that temptation to change one s fate
will end badly, no matter how small the wish might be (in the end the White family loses its only son).

The Dating Of Pregnacy With Ultrasonography
DATING OF PREGNACY WITH ULTRASONOGRAPHY
FIRST TRIMESTER OF PREGNANCY (0 TO 13 WEEKS)
Parameters used for evaluating gestational age are:
1. Gestational sac measurement : Mean sac diameter (MSD) is measured using the sum of three
orthogonal dimensions of the fluid sac wall interface divided by three. Gestational sac is first
visualized by transabdominal sonography at 5 weeks. MSD increases at the rate of 1mm/day in early
gestation. At 5.5 weeks a yolk sac appears. At six weeks an embryo first appears adjacent to the yolk
sac.(11)
2. Crown Rump length (CRL) : Once the embryo can be visualized, the measurement of choice for
estimation of menstrual age becomes the crown rump length. Using transvaginal ultrasonography
(TVS), embryo can be visualized from fifth menstrual week onwards(12). The majority of early
studies on CRL demonstrated that the accuracy of the method in predicting menstrual age was 3 to 5
days (±2 standard deviations)(13,14).
Hadlock et al(15) concurred that accuracy decreases as the first trimester of pregnancy nears its end.
They developed measurement tables establishing menstrual age for CRL.
SECOND AND THIRD TRIMESTERS OF PREGNANCY (14 42 weeks)

The Princess Bride Analysis
In the film, The Princess Bride, the director Rob Reiner introduced many themes into the plot. A
significant theme in the film, The Princess Bride, is Intelligence . Had intelligence not have been a
contributing factor to the plot, there would be a completely different outcome at the end. Deception,
outwitting, outsmarting, all contribute to how the story ends. An excellent example of this is when
Westley and Vizzini had a battle of wit to win the princess, as Vizzini had kidnapped her. The shots
used were mostly close ups, as the two of them had no real power over the other. Westley was the one
leading the challenge. This involved Vizzini choosing which wine goblet had the iodine powder. Of
course, Westley had developed an immunity to iodine powder, so he had put iodine powder in both
goblets. Vizzini, thinking he was smart, continuously questioned which goblet it could be in, making it
look like he was stalling. He eventually picked one, drunk it, and thought he had won. He had not.
After Vizzini collapsed to the ground, Westley escorted Buttercup away and shared some of his tales
to her. These experiences he had experienced caused this Man in black to be almost terrifying to
Buttercup, as she had not known yet that he was in fact, Westley. Buttercup explains to him about her
lost love, and Westley simply mocks her. You mock my pain! She tells him, upset by his lack of
caring. He just replies, Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says different is selling something. He
says this with ease as he knows exactly her pain. Westley s speech pattern was very proper, and he was
quite knowledgeable in his many experiences. He knew about the terrors of the fire swamp, and
seemed to know lots of useful information to help him and Buttercup get away. He had experienced
many other situations that helped contribute to his vast knowledge. Having a high level of intelligence
also contributes to your authority over people. When Westley was climbing the mountain to get to
Inigo, a low shot was used showing that currently, Inigo had power. Another example, Prince
Humperdinck, being royal, had quite a bit of authority

How Information Security Has Become A Critical Function...
Information security has become a critical function within all organizations across the world. Hackers
are finding more and more ways to hack into computer systems by exploiting software vulnerabilities.
In addition, hackers are becoming more creative on the methods used to achieve the exploitation of
these vulnerabilities. As a result, many organizations have implemented controls to detect and identify
threats before hackers successfully hack into an organization and cause irreparable damage. There are
several threat indicators which allow security analysts to determine when a system is hacked. This

Threat intelligence is critical in today s environment and organizations no longer rely solely on

According to nigesecurityguy.com, intelligence isn t all about sources and indicators. It s about

The Human Heart Essays
Introduction In our world organisms occupy a sliding scale of complexity. On one hand we have the
single cell organisms, where all necessary functions for their life are carried out within that one cell.
At the other extreme we have extremely complex multicellular organisms, of which humans are
perhaps the cardinal member. Obviously, with increased capacity comes increased abilities. Complex
organisms are able to manipulate their environment to a greater extent then their simpler cousins.
While this has a lot of advantages, it also presents interesting biological problems. With the increased
complexity multicellular organisms must have systems to deliver nutrients, signaling molecules, and
biochemical building blocks to every cell. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While contraction in skeletal muscle is triggered by motor neurons under central control, certain
cardiac muscle variants exhibit autorhythmicity. This means that that they are capable of producing

This system is comprised of specializes cardiomyocytes that are autorhythmic and are able to conduct

hormonal loop (Formation 2013). The thyroid gland secretes parathyroid hormone (PTH) in response
to low calcium in the blood detected by the g protein coupled receptor. PTH activates bone digesting
Osteoclasts, which move along a bone surface, breaking down the matrix and in turn release Ca2+ and
HPO42 . Calcium salts are converted into soluble forms by the hydrochloric acid secreted by the ruffle
border of the Osteoclast. Bones can become so de mineralised that they develop large holes when
blood calcium levels are too low for an extended period of time (Marieb Hoehn 2010). Extracellular
calcium levels between 9 11ng or higher results in the binding of calcium to the receptor inhibiting the
secretion of PTH. Without the bodies capacity to detect changes in ECF calcium concentration,
voltage gated ion channels can become unstable and result in hyperactivity of muscle and nerve cells
(Humoral Regualtion 2013). According to the Harvard health publication: Calcium beyond the bones,
fundamental processes such as growth may be underdeveloped or calcium may be deposited in soft
tissues such as the heart and lungs when there is excess or inadequate levels of calcium (Calcium
2010). Most calcium deposits are benign however

Hiroshima By John Hersey
Hiroshima by John Hersey was written to give insight into the lives of survivors on that horrific day
during August in 1945. Hersey informed me of the happenings surrounding the dropping of the atomic
bomb. The book both shocked and informed me with its vivid details and accuracy. Throughout my
reading of Hiroshima, I found myself continuously shocked at the extreme detail Hersey included. The
book begins at exactly fifteen minutes past eight in the morning, on August 6, 1945 , (1) with great
detailing of the six main character s lives. Some were had just sat down at her place in the plant
office...at that same moment [another] was settling down cross legged to read...on the porch of his
private hospital, overhanging once of the seven deltaic rivers which divide Hiroshima. (1) Not only
am I being told about these people s day, but I am also getting a feel for the setting and the city itself.
Hersey built a picture of the time before the bomb hit in my mind, and I could not love it more. The
first instance of extreme detail where I found myself completely affected was when Mr. Tanimoto ran
across about twenty men...in exactly the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bomb caused Miss Sasaki to become a cripple; Mrs. Nakamura was destitute; Father Kleinsorge
was back in the hospital (87) and others lost property that was either a church or a hospital. With that
being the end result, I expected that many Japanese would hate Americans, but a surprising number of
the people of Hiroshima remained more or less indifferent about the ethics of using the bomb. (89)
When I read that, I was completely blown away. To have your entire city and lives literally erased is
devastating, yet a majority those victims were indifferent! I found it very interesting that many just
saw the bomb as something a part of the

Examples Of Victim Blaming In The Secret
Blaming The Victim Mentality in The Secret The Secret written and produced by Rhonda Byrne is one
of the best selling self help books and most popular documentary films in the USA. Both the book and
the documentary introduce a new term, the law of attraction, which describes a different method of
achieving wealth, happiness and love. Teachers from various countries, backgrounds and professions
try to explain how the law of attraction works by adducing specific circumstances from our lives.
However, a critic named Courtney Martin probes the idea of The Secret which simply states that what
you think most will happen and by changing the way of thinking, we can get anything we want.
According to Courtney Martin, if The Secret s logic is to be believed, then those who are hungry are
not envisioning food hard enough. This statement implies that The Secret s doctrine also involves the
idea that people are responsible for unfavorable things happened in their lives as well as benefits they
get after learning The Secret. Martin believes that The Secret accuses people who are in a difficult
situation of not being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As The Secret strives to engrave in people s minds the idea that our current thoughts are creating our
future life, the followers of this ideology start to blame victims of the incidents for attracting unwanted
events. For example, the inevitable and objectionable consequence of following this ideology could be
that new generations may believe that Jewish people s wishes caused the Holocaust or people such as
journalist, artists or civilians who have been murdered by jihadists actually wanted to die. Finding
innocent and unfortunate people guilty instead of accusing persecutors, war criminals and terrorists is
the result of blaming the victim

Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation Essay
REDD+ leads to increase in both carbon storage and forest conservation. REDD+ mitigation measure
includes REDD, plus conservation of forest carbon stocks, sustainable management of forest, and
enhancement of forest carbon stock.
REDD+ with carbon enhancement objective may increase conversion of bio diverse natural ecosystem
to monoculture with quick species growth. In addition, increase in afforestation and reforestation will
be common by replacing high biodiversity non forest ecosystem (Swan and McNelly, 2011).
Conservation of forest in REDD+ area can lead to displacement (leakage) of deforestation and
degradation to other non REDD+ site. For example, in Indonesia, targeting carbon dense peat land
forest will increase pressure to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The restriction to the local people for the use of forest products and timber logging can increase the
demand for these products and market value. The control of the deforestation and degradation in
REDD+ site increases the agricultural land crisis and demand for the land. Studies indicate that cross
border leakage is a major problem in many areas. In Vietnam between 1987 and 2006, about 39% of
the forest cover was recovered, which was balanced by the forest loss in the neighboring countries
including Lao PDR, Cambodia, and Indonesia (Barlow, et. al., 2012). The conservation or restoration
project in the REDD+ areas without considering the immediate or underlying causes of forest loss can
be more prone to leakage (Miles and Dickson, 2010) causing deforestation elsewhere to meet the
demand for agricultural products and forest needs (Barlow, et. al., 2012).
In the current management system in Nepal, community forestry (CF) is one of the effective
mechanisms to reduce deforestation and increase greenery in the country, but there is uncertainty to
what extent CF supports biodiversity conservation (Acharya, 2003). Community forestry has
contributed to improving and diversifying livelihoods by mobilizing locally available natural forest.
As per the Forest Act (1993), community forest user groups (CFUGs) retain 100% of revenues
generated and 25% are used in forest development

Diffusion And Osmosis
Why is diffusion and osmosis important and what were the reasons of the experiments performed?
Osmosis helps keep the water levels in cells at homeostasis and diffusion tries to reach equilibrium by
moving to an area of lower concentration. The two experiments were designed and performed to test
the rate of diffusion by measuring the size of the phenolphthalein agar block and the weight of the
dialysis tubes. To begin with, the experiments, The Rate of Diffusion and Cell Size, was to test
whether the rate of diffusion was affected by the volume and surface area. It was hypothesized that the
volume and surface area of the phenolphthalein agar block and the dialysis tubing will have affect on
the rate of diffusion. The first test was the phenolphthalein agar cube which was submerged into
hydrochloric acid for a total of ten minutes along with other solutions tested in the dialysis tubing. ...

After analyzing the results of the data the rate of diffusion for the dialysis tubing and the block
showed evidence of how a cell s membrane functions. Nevertheless, after further examination I was
able to determine that diffusion rate does depend on the magnitude of volume or surface area. I
learned that what caused the smaller 1 cm cube to become clear at a much faster rate depended on the
concentration of the hydrochloric acid. In other words if the proportion of the agar cube increased the
concentration of the hydrochloric acid got diluted and therefore became less effective. As a result, the
agar cube was exposed to the strongest concentration of acid therefore became clear at a faster rate.
For future research it would be useful to measure the concentration of the hydrochloric

My First Lesson On The Battle Of Lexington And Concord
This week I only attended three days for block teaching. Monday was Columbus Day so the school
was closed and everyone had the day off. Friday I did not attend because it was fall break for WIU so I
decided to go home for the weekend. On Tuesday the students worked on Cornell notes for several
headings in their textbook. Then on Wednesday I taught my first lesson on the battles of Lexington
and Concord. The students analyzed two primary source documents then as a class we discussed their
similarities and differences. The lesson went well despite the fact that two thirds of the class was
missing due to state testing. The fact that majority of the class made me worried for the lesson I
prepared for the following day because the two lessons were designed to match up. However, I was
pleasantly surprised that Thursday s lesson went as smoothly as it did. The students stayed on task and
were focused so I did not have really any issues with classroom management. Since this week was
short and I taught two out of the three days I was present my teacher didn t have much involvement
with his class. On Thursday when one student was getting a big rowdy before class due to an
argument my mentor pulled him into the hallway to address the situation. I believe my best classroom
management skills were displayed during my Wednesday lesson. Due to majority of the class being
missing I got the vibe that the students who were present thought of it as a free day. I had one student
who decided

Sigmund Freud Interpretation Of Dreams Essay
Although there were various methods of interpreting dreams in biblical times, one way that was used
to interpret the impact of dreams on reality is through a message being delivered (often by a
spirit/god), also known as religious symbolism. The reason it is known as religious symbolism is
because the theory is most commonly used in religious circumstance, although there are many records
from ancient times stating that dreams foresee future events through a message being given to a
person in the person s dream outside of religious purposes (Alles). These records include the Chester
Beatty Papyrus from Egypt, the Atharvaveda from India, a Babylonian dream guide, and other ancient
references. The messages delivered have different meanings but ... Show more content on

While many people in ancient times used that method to find a purpose in their dreams, Sigmund
Freud shared his theory on the same topic. Freud s theory about the effect of dreams was made well
known in the late 1800s. His main belief on the topic was that dreams are very important for mental
health, especially involving thoughts related to sexual desire. Freud wrote several books relating to his
personal theory, but most popular (and controversial) was The Interpretation of Dreams, published in
1899. Additionally, Freud influenced many other psychologists including C.G. Jung who later shared
his own theory on dream interpretation. Freud s thoughts were that people s unconscious wishes
(especially sexual) are fulfilled by the occurrence of dreams and even nightmares were a sign of wish
fulfillment. Although Freud also considered that this would not be the case in every dream: If I now
declare that wish fulfillment is the meaning of every dream, so that there cannot beany dreams other
than wish dreams, I know beforehand that I shall meet with the most emphatic contradiction (Freud
44). Many of Sigmund Freud s thoughts on dream analysis later influenced C.G. Jung s theory as
claimed by Jung in Memories, Dreams,

  • 2. Reston Research Paper Reston is a census designated place located in Northern Virginia s Fairfax County, about 20 miles north of Washington D.C. Containing four artificial lakes (among which Lake Anne and Lake Thoreau are the most famous), the town encompasses a total area of 17.4 square miles. According to the 2010 census, Reston s population is 56,407 residents. Founded in 1964, modern Reston is internationally known as the first planned residential community. Reston s history began in 1649, when King Charles II of England assigned vast areas of land in Northern Virginia to seven of his supporters. During the 18th century, Lord Fairfax the descendant of the original land owners decided to auction it off for $5 per acre. In 1886, the property which later became Reston was bought by William Dunn and Dr. Carl Wiehle. For several years, Dr. Wiehle drafted plans for what he imagined to become a Utopian new city. In 1897, he even incorporated a town with his own name. Although Wiehle died soon after the construction of first buildings and the Utopian project was abandoned, some 80 years later his ideas did catch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Multi Car Crash Essay Multi Vehicle Car Crash in Elk Grove Results in One Fatality According to The Sacramento Bee, a multi vehicle car crash in Elk Grove claimed the life of one man and injured several others. The collision happened on Friday afternoon about 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of Laguna Boulevard and Laguna Oaks Drive. Eyewitnesses reported that a speeding SUV rear ended a Toyota Prius that was stopped in rush hour traffic. The Prius driver was killed in the collision. The collision began a chain reaction that involved five other vehicles. Two other people were injured in the multi vehicle car crash. In other words, if you are 20% at fault for the multi vehicle car crash, you can still receive compensation for 80% of your damages. In a two vehicle car accident, the math is simple. If your damages are $100,000, you would receive $80,000 in compensation ($100,000 less 20 percent). A multi vehicle car crash complicates this simple math. Several drivers may be partially to blame for the collision. Sorting out who did what and assigning percentages of fault can be a complex undertaking. • 4. Personification In Animal Farm The key to the success of Animal Farm lies in the fact that it was not just a political novel. Nor was Orwell the politics obsessed figure of legend. His childhood friend Cyril Connolly wrote that he was always incorrigibly political, so that he couldn t blow his nose without moralizing on the state of the linen industry. Yet such a view is partly exaggeration, partly anachronism (Pearce 49). Animal Farm by George Orwell symbolizes the Russian Revolution that happened in 1905. Throughout this book, Orwell compares the book with the Russian Revolution through characterization, personification, and allegory. Characterization is the representation of a character who takes on the actions, gestures, and even speech patterns, of certain people. Personification is the representation of an abstract quality in human form. Lastly, allegory is when a story has a meaning or a moral or an allegory can be represented as a symbol. Orwell ... In some ways, he clearly emphasizes the similarities between the beasts on Animal Farm and the humans whom they are designed to represent. (Letemendia 127). One good example of personification is that Napoleon is represented as Joseph Stalin. Stalin and Napoleon used violence to maintain order. For example, when Napoleon used the dogs to chase off Snowball. Napoleon wanted the farm to go his way, instead of working together with the other pigs and animals. So then when Snowball presented the windmill idea, Napoleon thought it was brilliant but wanted to claim the idea for himself later and chase off Snowball. Napoleon also used the dogs to kill the animals that have fessed up supposably to be working with Snowball. It supplies nutrients and oxygen to many tissues and removes the waste products and carbon dioxide. The heart has 4 chambers called the left and right atrium and the left and right ventricle. These are separated by valves that stop the backflow of the blood that may occur due to the pumping motion. The other two valves separate the entrances to the aorta and the pulmonary artery. Empathizing and sympathizing is natural, extended exposure to these slave trades would leave the sailors stripped of these natural feelings. The last group that is affected by slavery is those in which do not own slaves and are not a slave themselves. Initially one would assume that there would be no correlation to the cause and effect of slavery to this particular group of individuals, but in fact there is. Slavery being cheap labor is not free labor. In slavery there is a financial cost expended by the slave holder. • 9. The Debate Over the Constitutionality of the Affordable... Essay 3 The question of whether or not Congress has the power to force people to buy health insurance has been highly advocated by the supporters, and highly scrutinized by the opposition. The constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 has thus been defended on both sides. Advocates argues why it is constitutional by providing reason and benefits of the Act, and the opposition argues why it is not constitutional by providing reason, and stating the drawbacks of the Act. The debate about the Constitutionality of the Act boils down to whether has Congress violated its powers as outlined in Article I of the Constitution. Article I gives three main powers to Congress, and those were restated by the Supreme Court in Perez v. United States. Firstly, Congress can regulate the channels of interstate commerce. Secondly, Congress has the authority to regulate and protect the instrumentalities of interstate commerce and persons or things in interstate commerce. Thirdly, Congress has the power to regulate activities that substantially affect interstate commerce. However, the last step is at interest regarding this topic because it draws attention towards the participation/non participation about the Affordable Care Act that could potentially affect interstate commerce. This is concerning because although the local activities implied in the third power do not directly participate in interstate commerce, all local activities within the U.S ... It seems to be that opinion and not based on the facts of what is required of a sport to be called a sport. Once again the argument can be made that games are things that require skill but not necessarily athleticism. Motocross requires both and then some, thus it is a sport! • 14. The Way Of Self Regulation The way self regulation occurs will change over time based off of what culture the child lives in. For instance, crying is an acceptable form of self regulation for a baby, but not for a teenager so the teenager must find another way to self regulate when a challenge pops up (neurons to neighborhoods). A part of self regulation (which falls under the emotional part of self regulation) that is very important for infants to develop is effortful control, or how well the infant can prevent impulses, cope with negative emotions, and behave in a way that is socially acceptable (Berk). It also predicts conscience, empathy, guilt, and low aggression, and gives children the ability to do something else when they are affected negatively so they aren t overwhelmed. Low effortful control is a consistent predictor of externalizing problems (temperament and personality, Rothbart). Infants show that they are beginning to obtain emotional self regulation around 12 18 months (Berk). With this evidence it is very obvious that self regulation is an important part of development. If a child isn t able to learn how to self regulate, he/she would not be able to learn important motor abilities, or have the capacity to deal properly with emotions. The best way children learn how to self regulate is by watching, interacting, and learning from others. This, and other things, are what determine that relationships with others are essential for healthy development. Early relationships are different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Released in the midst of the Cold War, this 1964 film satirizes the heightened tensions between America and Russia. Many sexual insinuations are implemented to ridicule the serious issue of a global nuclear holocaust, in an effort to countervail the terror that plagued America at that time. Organizing principles, such as Kubrick s blunt political attitudes about the absurdity of war and the satirical genre, are echoed by the film style of his anti war black comedy, Dr. Strangelove. The majority of the film s sound is derived exclusively from diegetic speech and sound effects that bolster its overall realism. This voice over narration stimulates the suspense of the narrative while providing the spectator with unrestricted information by revealing more insight than the characters know at this point. That was around a fifth less capital than the company had planned for. As things transpired, retail investors were put off by the prospect of Italian capital gains and dividend taxes, which they were liable to pay (even though the listing was in Hong Kong). . the share price shot up in July but then proceeded to lose around a third of its value to December, as investors panicked about stock market and real estate declines. The New York Stock Exchange, the biggest in the world by market capitalisation, was arguably a safer choice. That the share price has been so volatile is a measure of the risk in instigating an IPO in relatively uncharted waters. Risk is a core reason why other luxury goods companies, with an eye on a Hong Kong listing, have hesitated. Prada was bold in its listing strategy, and that has to be one of the biggest lessons. It is one thing to identify emerging Asia and China in particular as the sweet spot of luxury goods opportunity, it is another to act on it Prada has moved speedily away from a wholesale model, which was shown to have fundamental weaknesses in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis

Some Americans deem the policy to be inefficient and as a result would like to banish drug laws completely. Since the war on drugs has become a huge crisis in American society, one day Americans will have to decide whether or not they support the legalization of drugs. From childhood I knew that achieving the best grades and challenging myself in academics would allow me to pursue what I wanted later in life, and I knew it wouldn t be easy. I have sacrificed uncountable amounts of hours that I could have spent with friends or doing other fun activities, to study for my classes. In each case, the organization, the labor union, and the public are negatively affected. Why can t there be a better way of resolving disputes between the management and labor unions to avert unnecessary strikes? Why does the relationship between the labor unions and management have to be adversarial in nature? Does anybody benefit from strikes and work stoppages? These are some of the questions that I will explore in this study. Firstly, it will seem that the management and the labor union of any organization have a stake in the success or failure of that organization. The success of the organization has to be the priority or the number one goal of any member or members of the organization. As such, the entire organization has to work as a team in order to succeed, thrive and survive. In the real world, that is not what is happening. By exploring the main relationships, it is evident that the novel aims to describe the ideal relationship between a father and his daughter by presenting to the reader varying degrees of closeness and interactions and their subsequent benefits and consequences. When a boy was born to an ancient Greek family, it was a source of celebration; the arrival of a girl, however, did not result in as much happiness. Once a wife gave birth to a baby, its kyrios, or guardian (usually the father or another male), decided whether or not to keep the child or to expose it. If however the kyrios decided to raise the infant girl, it was given a name on the fifth or seventh day after its birth during her amphidromia (Demand 8). The girls often received the feminine version of the male names; by naming the girl, the males were thus preparing her for the life under the continuous guardianship of a male. A significant theme in the film, The Princess Bride, is Intelligence . Had intelligence not have been a contributing factor to the plot, there would be a completely different outcome at the end. Deception, outwitting, outsmarting, all contribute to how the story ends. An excellent example of this is when Westley and Vizzini had a battle of wit to win the princess, as Vizzini had kidnapped her. The shots used were mostly close ups, as the two of them had no real power over the other. Westley was the one leading the challenge. This involved Vizzini choosing which wine goblet had the iodine powder. Of course, Westley had developed an immunity to iodine powder, so he had put iodine powder in both goblets. Vizzini, thinking he was smart, continuously questioned which goblet it could be in, making it look like he was stalling. He eventually picked one, drunk it, and thought he had won. He had not. After Vizzini collapsed to the ground, Westley escorted Buttercup away and shared some of his tales to her. These experiences he had experienced caused this Man in black to be almost terrifying to Buttercup, as she had not known yet that he was in fact, Westley. He knew about the terrors of the fire swamp, and seemed to know lots of useful information to help him and Buttercup get away. He had experienced many other situations that helped contribute to his vast knowledge. Having a high level of intelligence also contributes to your authority over people. Much of today s threat intelligence comes in the form of simple indicators . However, indicators alone may not always be of value to an organization given the complexity of attacks. In the current threat environment, quick distribution of information related to threat information is critical to quickly detect, respond and contain targeted attacks. As a result, on February 25, 2015, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) National Protection and Programs Directorate, announced a cybersecurity information sharing proposal from the President of the United ... • 39. The Human Heart Essays Introduction In our world organisms occupy a sliding scale of complexity. On one hand we have the single cell organisms, where all necessary functions for their life are carried out within that one cell. At the other extreme we have extremely complex multicellular organisms, of which humans are perhaps the cardinal member. Obviously, with increased capacity comes increased abilities. Complex organisms are able to manipulate their environment to a greater extent then their simpler cousins. While this has a lot of advantages, it also presents interesting biological problems. With the increased complexity multicellular organisms must have systems to deliver nutrients, signaling molecules, and biochemical building blocks to every cell. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While contraction in skeletal muscle is triggered by motor neurons under central control, certain cardiac muscle variants exhibit autorhythmicity. This means that that they are capable of producing their own depolarizing electrical potential. The cardiomyocytes that are capable of producing their own electrical potentials are found in what is referred to as the electrical condition system of the heart. This system is comprised of specializes cardiomyocytes that are autorhythmic and are able to conduct electrical potentials rapidly. These specialized structures include the sinoatrial node, atrioventricular node and bundle, and Purkinje fibers. While the bulk of the heart is myocardium, there are structural components that are pertinent. The four cardiac valves can be seen in a transverse section of the heart at the base of the ventricles. Figure grey s cardiac skeleton Surrounding each of these valves are dense fibrous rings or annuli made of connective tissue that forms the cardiac skeleton. The annuli of the aortic valve forms the base for the other annuli as it is located central to the other valves. Fibrous extensions from the annuli of the aortic valve extends outwardly and anchors the other three valves. In addition to the four annuli there are other fibrous components of the cardiac skeleton such as the right and left fibrous trigones, and the membranous septum. The right fibrous trigone is also know as the central ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Calcium Metabolism and Calcium Homeostasis Essays Calcium regulation has significant effects on the human body s capacity to maintain homeostasis. Around 99% of the body s calcium is found within the skeleton in the form of calcium salts. The remaining 1% is found in blood and controlled within a very narrow range by an elaborate system of controls to provide for fundamental processes (Marieb Hoehn 2010). Calcium is the most abundant cation found in human bodies, vital to normal function of a host of processes including: nerve excitability, hormone secretion, blood clotting, taste transduction, muscle function and cellular adhesion (Hutchins 2014). This essay will outline some of the more important roles of calcium metabolism. The essay will begin by discussing how calcium provides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A very narrow range of 9 11 mg per dl of calcium in blood is maintained by a negative feedback hormonal loop (Formation 2013). The thyroid gland secretes parathyroid hormone (PTH) in response to low calcium in the blood detected by the g protein coupled receptor. PTH activates bone digesting Osteoclasts, which move along a bone surface, breaking down the matrix and in turn release Ca2+ and HPO42 . Calcium salts are converted into soluble forms by the hydrochloric acid secreted by the ruffle border of the Osteoclast. Bones can become so de mineralised that they develop large holes when blood calcium levels are too low for an extended period of time (Marieb Hoehn 2010). Extracellular calcium levels between 9 11ng or higher results in the binding of calcium to the receptor inhibiting the secretion of PTH. Without the bodies capacity to detect changes in ECF calcium concentration, voltage gated ion channels can become unstable and result in hyperactivity of muscle and nerve cells (Humoral Regualtion 2013). According to the Harvard health publication: Calcium beyond the bones, fundamental processes such as growth may be underdeveloped or calcium may be deposited in soft tissues such as the heart and lungs when there is excess or inadequate levels of calcium (Calcium 2010). Most calcium deposits are benign however ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Hiroshima By John Hersey Hiroshima by John Hersey was written to give insight into the lives of survivors on that horrific day during August in 1945. Hersey informed me of the happenings surrounding the dropping of the atomic bomb. The book both shocked and informed me with its vivid details and accuracy. Throughout my reading of Hiroshima, I found myself continuously shocked at the extreme detail Hersey included. The book begins at exactly fifteen minutes past eight in the morning, on August 6, 1945 , (1) with great detailing of the six main character s lives. Some were had just sat down at her place in the plant office...at that same moment [another] was settling down cross legged to read...on the porch of his private hospital, overhanging once of the seven deltaic rivers which divide Hiroshima. (1) Not only am I being told about these people s day, but I am also getting a feel for the setting and the city itself. Hersey built a picture of the time before the bomb hit in my mind, and I could not love it more. • 42. Examples Of Victim Blaming In The Secret Blaming The Victim Mentality in The Secret The Secret written and produced by Rhonda Byrne is one of the best selling self help books and most popular documentary films in the USA. Both the book and the documentary introduce a new term, the law of attraction, which describes a different method of achieving wealth, happiness and love. Teachers from various countries, backgrounds and professions try to explain how the law of attraction works by adducing specific circumstances from our lives. However, a critic named Courtney Martin probes the idea of The Secret which simply states that what you think most will happen and by changing the way of thinking, we can get anything we want. According to Courtney Martin, if The Secret s logic is to be believed, then those who are hungry are not envisioning food hard enough. This statement implies that The Secret s doctrine also involves the idea that people are responsible for unfavorable things happened in their lives as well as benefits they get after learning The Secret. • 43. Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation Essay REDD+ leads to increase in both carbon storage and forest conservation. REDD+ mitigation measure includes REDD, plus conservation of forest carbon stocks, sustainable management of forest, and enhancement of forest carbon stock. REDD+ with carbon enhancement objective may increase conversion of bio diverse natural ecosystem to monoculture with quick species growth. In addition, increase in afforestation and reforestation will be common by replacing high biodiversity non forest ecosystem (Swan and McNelly, 2011). Conservation of forest in REDD+ area can lead to displacement (leakage) of deforestation and degradation to other non REDD+ site. For example, in Indonesia, targeting carbon dense peat land forest will increase pressure to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The restriction to the local people for the use of forest products and timber logging can increase the demand for these products and market value. The control of the deforestation and degradation in REDD+ site increases the agricultural land crisis and demand for the land. Studies indicate that cross border leakage is a major problem in many areas. In Vietnam between 1987 and 2006, about 39% of the forest cover was recovered, which was balanced by the forest loss in the neighboring countries including Lao PDR, Cambodia, and Indonesia (Barlow, et. al., 2012). The conservation or restoration project in the REDD+ areas without considering the immediate or underlying causes of forest loss can be more prone to leakage (Miles and Dickson, 2010) causing deforestation elsewhere to meet the demand for agricultural products and forest needs (Barlow, et. al., 2012). In the current management system in Nepal, community forestry (CF) is one of the effective mechanisms to reduce deforestation and increase greenery in the country, but there is uncertainty to what extent CF supports biodiversity conservation (Acharya, 2003). Community forestry has contributed to improving and diversifying livelihoods by mobilizing locally available natural forest. As per the Forest Act (1993), community forest user groups (CFUGs) retain 100% of revenues generated and 25% are used in forest development ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Diffusion And Osmosis Why is diffusion and osmosis important and what were the reasons of the experiments performed? Osmosis helps keep the water levels in cells at homeostasis and diffusion tries to reach equilibrium by moving to an area of lower concentration. The two experiments were designed and performed to test the rate of diffusion by measuring the size of the phenolphthalein agar block and the weight of the dialysis tubes. To begin with, the experiments, The Rate of Diffusion and Cell Size, was to test whether the rate of diffusion was affected by the volume and surface area. It was hypothesized that the volume and surface area of the phenolphthalein agar block and the dialysis tubing will have affect on the rate of diffusion. The first test was the phenolphthalein agar cube which was submerged into hydrochloric acid for a total of ten minutes along with other solutions tested in the dialysis tubing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After analyzing the results of the data the rate of diffusion for the dialysis tubing and the block showed evidence of how a cell s membrane functions. Nevertheless, after further examination I was able to determine that diffusion rate does depend on the magnitude of volume or surface area. I learned that what caused the smaller 1 cm cube to become clear at a much faster rate depended on the concentration of the hydrochloric acid. In other words if the proportion of the agar cube increased the concentration of the hydrochloric acid got diluted and therefore became less effective. As a result, the agar cube was exposed to the strongest concentration of acid therefore became clear at a faster rate. For future research it would be useful to measure the concentration of the hydrochloric ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. My First Lesson On The Battle Of Lexington And Concord This week I only attended three days for block teaching. Monday was Columbus Day so the school was closed and everyone had the day off. Friday I did not attend because it was fall break for WIU so I decided to go home for the weekend. On Tuesday the students worked on Cornell notes for several headings in their textbook. Then on Wednesday I taught my first lesson on the battles of Lexington and Concord. The students analyzed two primary source documents then as a class we discussed their similarities and differences. The lesson went well despite the fact that two thirds of the class was missing due to state testing. The fact that majority of the class made me worried for the lesson I prepared for the following day because the two lessons were designed to match up. However, I was pleasantly surprised that Thursday s lesson went as smoothly as it did. The students stayed on task and were focused so I did not have really any issues with classroom management. Since this week was short and I taught two out of the three days I was present my teacher didn t have much involvement with his class. On Thursday when one student was getting a big rowdy before class due to an argument my mentor pulled him into the hallway to address the situation. I believe my best classroom management skills were displayed during my Wednesday lesson. Due to majority of the class being missing I got the vibe that the students who were present thought of it as a free day. I had one student who decided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Sigmund Freud Interpretation Of Dreams Essay Although there were various methods of interpreting dreams in biblical times, one way that was used to interpret the impact of dreams on reality is through a message being delivered (often by a spirit/god), also known as religious symbolism. The reason it is known as religious symbolism is because the theory is most commonly used in religious circumstance, although there are many records from ancient times stating that dreams foresee future events through a message being given to a person in the person s dream outside of religious purposes (Alles). These records include the Chester Beatty Papyrus from Egypt, the Atharvaveda from India, a Babylonian dream guide, and other ancient references. The messages delivered have different meanings but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While many people in ancient times used that method to find a purpose in their dreams, Sigmund Freud shared his theory on the same topic. Freud s theory about the effect of dreams was made well known in the late 1800s. His main belief on the topic was that dreams are very important for mental health, especially involving thoughts related to sexual desire. Freud wrote several books relating to his personal theory, but most popular (and controversial) was The Interpretation of Dreams, published in 1899. Additionally, Freud influenced many other psychologists including C.G. Jung who later shared his own theory on dream interpretation. Freud s thoughts were that people s unconscious wishes (especially sexual) are fulfilled by the occurrence of dreams and even nightmares were a sign of wish fulfillment. Although Freud also considered that this would not be the case in every dream: If I now declare that wish fulfillment is the meaning of every dream, so that there cannot beany dreams other than wish dreams, I know beforehand that I shall meet with the most emphatic contradiction (Freud 44). Many of Sigmund Freud s thoughts on dream analysis later influenced C.G. Jung s theory as claimed by Jung in Memories, Dreams, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
