2. To protect……….
• Do not keep them near magnets
• Do not put them in your pocket
• Store in a metal cupboard / vertical position
• Maintain a suitable temperature.
7. LP / SP (long-play) (Standard Play)
• The standard SP miniDV tape will record 60
minutes, and that same tape running at LP will
record 90 minutes. Will get time code errors

8. Storing
Store all video tapes vertical... either way vertical...
side or end.

9. Magnetic field
• DO NOT store tapes near any magnetic fields.
(i.e. Speakers, Electric motors, magnets,
computer monitors, network hubs, audio or
video cabling or anything else that can
generate a magnetic field.)
11. Dirt
DIRT ON TAPE Classic symptoms of a dirty head.
Try running the tape till the end rewind it, and use
a cleaning tape on the camcorder, and see if it
works after that.
Maintain a suitable temperature. Variations in
temperature can cause tape tension to contract and
relax, a prime cause of stretching.
14. Caring
• Treat tape gently to extend the useful life.
Dropping or banging Mini DV tape damages
the tape tension which increases the chance
of stretching.
• Check the tape's tension. Make sure the Mini
DV camera spool wheels are holding correct
tension on the tape. If proper tension isn't
maintained, stretching will inevitably occur.
15. • Long-term storage on the BIG FLAT SIDE (flattest,
largest sides) is what shortens tape life-span...
because gravity never quits, even though the
tape is wound tight on a reel... it still settles
unless the spindles (reels) are oriented properly.

• Fast forward and then rewind the Mini DV tape
completely before storing. Re-spooling the Mini
DV all the way forward and back equalizes
tension on the tape.
