10. THE GEOLOGY The geology of the area of the middle valley consists of sedimentary rocks. The latest are at the mouth of the valley and they are layered and easily eroded rocks. In Stratified rocks, rich in fossils, were discovered many important fossils.

12. THE FOSSILS In 1972 a fossil deposit of extraordinary importance was found in Cene, in a quarry, with many renown fish and reptiles fossils .
15. Environmental impact At the beginning of the XX century big factories started to develop along the valley, mainly cement factories and textile mills.
16. 60 years ago, there was an important industrial expansion in all of the villages near Bergamo. Until the beginning of the present crisis there were lots of well-functioning industries in the area. However, the industrial expansion severely our environment polluted. 21. Intervention of reclamation! Most factories had no water purification plants and discharged their own polluted water in to the river. Since 1985 municipalities have started to control waste water disposal. In 8 years the situation changed completely. Purification tank in a factory.
28. Water for industries The water that came from the mountains, allowed to build the first factories. In 1196 the first wool mill was built, and this triggered the trade of wollen clothes. By the XVII century these small factories had disappeared and new cotton mills were built in the villages near Alzano. Also important was the working of iron, silk and coti stones.

The most important Industries in the Valley -Honegger cotton mill: it was built from 1878 to 1890 and it’s still active. -Albini cotton mill: it was founded in 1876 but a the moment there is only part of the original building. -Italcementi cement factory: it was founded by Giacinto Guffanti in 1886 and supplies the most important construction sites. -Angelo Zambaiti was one of the first and more important textile industries in the Seriana Valley. He was born in 1907, near Albino.
32. A great Albinese painter In 1553 GIOVAN BATTISTA MORONI was born in Albino. He was an important painter whose portraits are famous all over the world. His famous paintings include “Il Sarto” that is situated in London, “Il Cristo Crocefisso” and “Il Vedovo”.
