1. 043 RAIN GUAGE
With climate change and change in rain patterns schools can record rainfall
in and around their schools and compare data. The rain gauge can be a
useful device for that.
MATERIALS NEEDED
A water bottle
A one foot scale
Marker pen and scissor/knife
water bottle
scale marker
pen
scissors
2. Cut the upper portion of water bottle and discard. Keep the scale adjacent
to the bottle and mark in centimetres on the bottle with the marker.
As most of these bottles have ridges at the base, fill water for a few cms
till the water level is perfect and horizontal. The rain gauge is now ready.
3. Keep rain gauges in several places
and record the quantity of rainfall in
the several places at school and its
surroundings.
Record time and calculate per hour
or minute
you may also calculate with the help
of your teacher as to how much rain
per unit space as well.
