1. Proposal for group:
Plot synopsis
We open up in a busy highstreet as A is walking through the crowd. A stranger pushes a bag into
A’s chest, and run’s away not to bed seen. A is bewildered and curious as to what is in the bag, and
why he has been given it. A opens the bag to find bundles of £20 notes. A decides to keep the bag
and continue on his travels. A is walking from the met stop towards a lift. On the way to the lift, 2
men, B and C, are sat in a car staring at the man walking past. After some dialogue, the A is at the
lift, rushing to enter, whilst B runs towards him. Just in time, A runs into the lift and the doors
close before B reaches him. As the lift decends , B notices stairs to his left and starts to run down
them. Just as the lift doors open, A runs out and jumps over a low wall to be challenged by B. As
the brawl is mid way through, C drives round the corner in the car and A starts to escape. C stops
the car and gets out to chase him. A conducts various types of parkour movements, including
jumps and falls to escape B and C. Towards the end, A manages to run down a narrow hallway and
try to enter a building, only to find out it is locked. After turning round, B and C are slowly walking
towards him and the scene ends in a black screen.
Camera style (common angles/movement etc)
Common camera styles range from steadycams to tracking shots. Such genre signifiers in the
context of an action sequence include static camera shots to highlight the proximity of the
characters to each other. Low angle shots will denote powerful characters, whilst high angle shots
will show weak and vulnerable characters. Wide shots will protray the landscape and the location
signifiers, whilst close ups will enhance the emotion of the character, and show their fear. Pans
will make characters look quicker than they are, whilst tilts will show how far they have to drop in
the jumps.
What prep must be done?
Practise the use of fluent steady cam material, making the action shots look fantastic as well as
realistic, by involving the audience into the motion of the film itself.
Excell in the perfection of tilts and pans, these camera shots are going to be consitstent to allow
for genre signification to occur, we need to make sure that the camera techniques look
professional and unique.
Low angle to high anlge, we need to ensure that the appropriate use of low angle/high angle shot
is used to represent the power of mise en scene.
Editing Style (how will the editing carry the intended narrative/mood)
Another genre signifier are rapid edits, and these make the film quick paced and get the audience
more involved. Slow motion shots have to be practiced during jumps to enhance the length and
the height of the jump.
What prep must be done?
Practice the editing on the computer, putting shots together. Slowing down the movements during
the jumps, practicing using normal running and slowing it down to perfect it.
2. Mise en scene (location/props/costume/makeup/light)
The location will be outside in a public park with lots of walls and obstacles for A to run across. We
will make C look like a villan due to popular demand from the questionnaire, with scraped back
hair, a moustache and sunglasses. We will not be using make up so make up tests and not
applicable. We will need to test the lighting because we will be filming this during the day, so the
positioning of the sun is going to be taken into account
What prep must be done?
We will have to deduct the path we will take during the chase scene when running away. We will
have to use different sets of sunglasses and maybe put fake moustaches on our villan to make him
look like the bad guy. We will have to see where the sun is positioned at different times of the day
and position the camera in a series of close ups, high angle and low angle shots, pans and tilts, just
so there is no glare from the sun.
Sound
The sound will have to be upbeat and quick to enhance the characters rapid movements. We will
have to use certain sound effects like punches, footsteps and heavy breathing to emphasise
certain actions.
What prep must be done?
Look for certain breathing sounds or record some of our own and fit it into the filming. We will
have to search for punching sounds and footsteps because we do not have a good enough
microphone to record our own.
