Two heavy rainfall events in July 2010 led to severe flooding across Pakistan. The first rainfall soaked the catchment areas, and the second caused massive runoff that resulted in widespread flooding of the Indus River basin and Sindh province. Satellite images show the dramatic increase in flooding between early July and mid-August 2010, with large portions of land underwater and river banks overflowing, in contrast to images from the same areas in previous years without major flooding. The flooding affected many regions of Pakistan, especially the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
