6. Circular Muscle
• Also known as sphincter muscles which surround an
opening such as the mouth, surrounded by Obicularis
Oris and Obicularis Oculi surrounding the eyes.

7. Convergent Muscle
• These are muscles where the origin (the attachment to a
fixed bone, usually the proximal attachment) is wider
than the point of insertion.
• A large triangular muscle that covers
the shoulder joint and serves to raise
the arm laterally (deltoid)

8. Parallel Muscle
• They are normally long muscles which
cause large movements and have
parallel fibers and broad attachments
(Teres major).
• Sometimes called strap muscles or
Fusiform muscles .
• Examples include Sartorius and
• Sternocleidomastoid.

9. Pinnate Muscles
• Pinnate muscles have a large number of muscle
fibers per unit and so are very strong, but tire
easily.
• Resembling a feather especially in having
similar parts arranged on opposite sides.
• They can be divided into three;
– Unipinnate, Bipinnate and Multipinnate:

10. Unipinnate
• These muscles have their fibers arranged to insert in a
diagonal direction onto the tendon, which allows great
strength.
• Examples include the Lumbricals and Extensor
Digitorum Longus.

11. Bipinnate
• Bipinnate muscles have two rows of
muscle fibers, facing in opposite diagonal
directions with a central tendon, like a
feather.
• This allows even greater power but less
range of motion.
• An example is the Rectus Femoris

12. Multipinnate
• As the name suggests Multipinnate muscles have
multiple rows of diagonal fibers, with a central tendon
which branches into two or more tendons.
• An example is the Deltoid muscle which has three
sections, anterior, medius and posterior.

13. Fusiform Muscle
• These muscles are more spindle shaped, with the
muscle belly being wider than the origin and insertion.
• Sometimes included in the parallel muscle group,
• Examples are Biceps Brachii and Psoas major
