root cannel)
Giving Feedback
It is coming close to that time of year when managers are
starting to prepare their thoughts around giving annual,
or hopefully you have moved toward quarterly, feedback.
While feedback should be something that is given freely
and continuously, often times, it isn’t. Primarily because
many mangers have never been formally taught how to
deliver effective feedback.
What Feedback Isn’t
• Feedback Isn’t:
– A personal attack on someone- focus on behaviors and
not the person
– A one sided conversation- say what needs to be said and
give the other person time to respond
– A time to talk incessantly- spend more time listening
– A time to focus only on weaknesses- ensure you are
prepared to talk about strengths as well

Giving Feedback
Giving timely, frequent, well thought out and delivered
feedback is one of the most successful ways of ensuring
that you have an engaged workforce. Like anything else
in life, practice makes perfect. If you are unused to
delivering feedback, make sure that you practice o a
trusted friend. Ask for honest feedback about how your
message was received and what you could have done
differently. Your team and your organization will be better
because of it!
