Similes use the words "like" or "as" to compare two unlike objects, such as describing life as being "like a sunset" or feathers as being "as soft as silk". Metaphors differ from similes in that they do not use "like" or "as" when making comparisons. The document also briefly discusses alliteration, which is the repetition of initial sounds in words.
