As our film is both an independent film
and our first film we decided to look up
independent film companies. An
independent film is defined as 'a
professional film production resulting in
a feature film that is produced mostly
or completely outside of the major film
studio system' therefore that was what
we had produced so needed to look at
Independent film companies located in
the UK - many major film companies
are based in the United States.

We found StudioCanal UK which is an independent film distributor in the UK and
Ireland. Some of their most famous films distributed include Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
(Which is a thriller film) and Don't be afraid of the dark (which is a thriller/horror)
therefore due to this we thought this would be a good company to distribute our film
with as they are independent and also because they distribute thriller/horror films more
than any other genre and so fits what we were looking for.

With StudioCanal our film could have success, for example with Tinker Tailor Soldier
Spy it had three nominations: the Academy Awards for Best Adapted
Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Actor.
To distribute our film we could advertise on the right social sites i.e. a Facebook
page, twitter account. This can attract a large amount of audiences by seeing the
trailer on YouTube which we left $1 Million in the budget for. Also in our budget we
included enough money to enable us to make a trailer which we can advertise on
TV on more independent channels i.e. film4, channel 4 - This would appeal to more
niche market of audience's than it would if it was just film posters. In stores
adverts/film posters which could be in the DVD section or in the cinemas there
could be card board cut outs advertising the characters. In the budget we left some
money to promote the film on billboards in cities.
From our film you can tell that it didn't have a big budget i.e. from the use of
props, location etc. Therefore we didn't have the budget to go with a massive
distribution company.
