1. BULLYING STATISTICS IN MARYLAND SCHOOLS
A total of 3,818 incidents were reported for the 2009-2010 school year. This represents an
increase of 2,132 reported incidents from 2008-09 school year and an increase of 2,524 form
2007-08 school year.
Significant increases were reported in Baltimore city, Anne
Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Talbot, and Wicomico
counties.

Over 60% of the reported bullying and or harassment incidences involved teasing, name
calling, threatening in person or other means, and making critical remarks,
Over 30% involved kicking, hitting, shoving, spitting, hair pulling, and throwing something,
Over 25% involved demeaning and making the victim jokes, making rude and/or threatening
gestures, intimidating, extorting, or exploiting,
Over 15% involved spreading harmful rumors or gossip,
And, over 5% involved getting another person to hit or harm another.
